I saw a post that said Olympic Ceremonies have a set pattern. They should be a spectacle, reflecting the host country’s history and culture, they should have artists that are famous in their own country, bonus points if internationally known, it should involve audience participation.

So here is a throwback to when London 2012 literally said, give me 5 minutes!

We have morris dancers, bagpipers, Welsh ladies, high kicking Roman soldiers, Bhangra dancers, inappropriate nuns, and Britannia all set to a comedy song everyone is singing along to, just as Eric Idle intended! There is even a salute to the Royal box. British humour at its finest 🇬🇧

See pack all into 5 minutes and then have an epic concert that the athletes go metal for. London understood the assignment.

I don't have any memories of my own about 2012 London Olympics, but all I remember is from Lethal White by J. K. Rowling / Robert Galbreith.

[I posted a lot about JK Rowling being trash and everything, but this book - not even a good one - impressed me because of the way in which portrays and mocks the tinge of excitement and nervousness about the Olympics and the desperate desire of petty characters to be part of something bigger and important]

The novel opens as Strike’s assistant, now partner, Robin Ellacott, marries the worthless Matthew, and at some point of the novel they have this fancy house party with Matthew's colleagues and few Robin's friends. It's London in 2012, so the snobbish colleagues and Matthew (who is a middle-class with some ambitions to be part of the well-to-do society) are all blabbering about the event of the year (the Olympics) and complaints about non-availability of Olympics tickets are a dominant theme in conversation. At some point, I thought it was Matthew's lover, this woman expresses her disappointment to have been able to purchase only tickets for the boxing match and not something more prestigious.

I found it weird and funny to read.

But I find weird that my only memories of this event is a book published in 2018.

The King has made a strong impression at the Swedish men's handball matches. He was in the stands during the thrilling quarter-final against Denmark and loudly cheered on the Swedish national team. A picture taken during the game shows the King shouting loudly, Queen Silvia backing away, and a woman in front holding her ears.

- That's good, that's how it should be. It gives energy, absolutely, says the King to Sportbladet.
