Former President Donald Trump has become an outspoken critic of transgender women competing in women's sports, frequently discussing the topic at his rallies, but in the past welcomed them in the beauty pageant he ran.

CNN's Andrew Kaczynski resurfaced Trump's stance on trans women competing in the Miss Universe pageant, which he owned from 1996 to 2015. Trump gave several TV and radio interviews in 2012 in which he celebrated the participation of Jenna Talackova, a 23-year-old transgender woman, for partaking in a pageant in Canada, CNN reported.

Several news reports from April 2012 credit Trump specifically with reversing the pageant's ban on transgender women. Trump told CNN at the time he and the Miss Universe Organization had decided to reverse the ban even before they'd heard that Talackova had enlisted women's rights lawyer Gloria Allred to help her challenge it.

Michael Cohen, then Trump's personal lawyer, told E! News that Trump and the organization made the "fair and just decision" to allow Talackova to compete in the Miss Universe 2012 Canada pageant.

"Pageant rules have been modernized to ensure this type of issue does not occur again," Cohen said, adding: "We hope Jenna will now turn her focus to preparing for the upcoming competition. Like all the contestants, Mr. Trump wishes Jenna the best of luck in her quest for the crown."

Trump even praised comments made on stage in 2012 by Miss USA Olivia Culpo in response to a question about trans women competing in the pageant.

"I do think that that would be fair, but I can understand that people would be a little apprehensive to take that road because there is a tradition of natural-born women," Culpo said. "But today where there are so many surgeries and so many people out there who have a need to change for a happier life, I do accept that because I believe it's a free country."

In a June 2012 appearance on Fox News, Trump said Culpo "gave a great answer," CNN reported.

Trump's tone on transgender women competing in women's sports has been pointedly different on the 2024 campaign trail. In countless rallies and speeches, Trump has railed against transgender women and claimed they are destroying women's sports. Trump has also vowed to "ban men from participating in women's sports" and ban "child sexual mutilation."

Transgender teens rarely undergo gender confirmation surgery and more commonly receive hormone treatment. Nationally used guidelines say surgery should only even be considered for patients who are at least 15.

Last week Trump noted during a speech that discussing transgender topics worked up a crowd far more than discussing cutting taxes. "It's amazing how strongly people feel about that," he said of transgender issues, adding: "Five years ago you didn't know what the hell it was."

The American Medical Association this week strengthened its policy on protecting gender-affirming care in response to potential legal or criminal penalties adopted by states.

Trump's office did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

The small town of Bridgeport, Maine had been the home of Isla Leonora Ricci since birth. Her parents were locals, owning one of the local grocery stores in the Downtown Bridgeport district, where Isla early on started helping out packing groceries to help out. If she was not at the grocery store with her family or at school, she could usually be spotted out and about with either her sibling or friends, chilling at the local beach or enjoying the small shopping options Bridgeport had to offer. Although, when she got older her priorities changed. In her high school years, she started to dream about something more than a small town life in a county she had never set foot out of and she started to look into colleges out of state. All while the time she had usually spent at the store helping out her parents were replaced with beach or house parties and alcohol. However, she was determined to make a life for herself outside of Bridgeport, and ended up applying to basically all colleges the closes big city had to offer; New York. Here she eventually got accepted to St. John’s University for journalism.

Moving to a big city was a big step for a small town girl, but Isla dove in head first and managed to get settled pretty quickly. She met a group of people that she got on with really well and were a lot of fun. Eventually, the late nights she had spent in the library working on her degree, was replaced with late nights at the many night clubs the city of New York had to offer. She got invited to exclusive parties at VIP tables, got free drinks and enjoyed the company of the occasional celebrity. And as her focus changed, eventually did her life. Due to her newly adapted life style, Isla almost failed many of her courses and her grades slipped drastically. When time came, she just about managed to graduate with passing marks. Having already decided to stay back in the city,  hoping that her extroverted personality would weight out the results she had on paper. It proved  to be a much harder task than she had first anticipated seeing she rarely got any callbacks for any interviews, and if she did, it would only be for low paying jobs.

It was then her room mate at the time introduced her to escorting as a way to make ends meet in the mean time. However, the amount of money she ended up making from it allowed her to adapt a comfortable life as well as a luxury life style she had always desired. She began focusing more on her social media, mainly Instagram, and eventually gained a lot of followers from it which again led to smaller sponsorships and such from brands sending her products to review or post about. In New York for a while there, Isla was thriving, and she couldn’t really imagine herself ever moving anywhere else. She ended up with a decent clientele when she was working as an escort, some of which grew particularly attached to her. It wasn’t until she experienced a very uncomfortable situation with one of her regular clients, she packed up her bags and moved back home to Bridgeport, Maine.

Here she managed to land an assistant job and with the money she had left over from New York and her escorting days, she moved in to a studio flat in the Downtown Bridgeport district. Due to the move, her following halted or even started to drop as Bridgeport wasn’t exactly giving people the New York imaginary life style she had been posting about for years. It became harder and harder for Isla to support her luxury life style, and in order to attempt sustaining her income, she created a secret only fans account where she mainly posts explicit faceless pictures.

Mais sa mère ne supportait plus de devoir tout gérer toute seule. Alors, après des centaines de disputes, et de claquages de porte, sa mère prit ses bagages et demanda le divorce. La petite Lilia, âgée alors de 10 ans n'était pas vraiment surprise. Une de ses amies à l'école lui avait raconté la même histoire, lui disant que cela permettait au moins d'avoir deux fois plus de cadeaux, et que ses parents étaient beaucoup plus cools avec elle. Seulement, malgré les demandes de Lilia pour aller habiter avec sa mère, le procès fut gagné par son père et son argent. Lilia n'avait le droit d'aller voir sa mère que pendant les vacances scolaires, puisque celle-ci était repartie vers son Londres natal. Ce n'est qu'à l'âge de 16 ans, néanmoins, que Lilia décida de le faire subir à son père. Lorsqu'il déménagea en cours d'année scolaire vers Paris, quand son grand père prit sa retraite de la direction de la société familiale. Lilia dut quitter ses amies et son lycée, chose qui ne plus absolument pas à la petite brune. Adieu les bonnes notes, bonjour les sorties en cachette, avec une fausse carte d'identité et de l'argent volé à son père pour aller faire la fête en boite de nuit. Son père qui de toutes façons, n'était jamais là, ne remarquait quasiment rien. Il ne se fatiguait de toutes façons pas à s'opposer à sa fille en pleine rébellion. Ce n'est que quand elle eut 18 ans, et qu'elle lui parla de son premier vrai petit copain qu'il perdit patience : Maeldan, dealer de drogues, tout sauf le prince charmant, qui n'attendait qu'une chose, coucher avec elle pour gagner son pari, fait avec ses potes. Evidemment, la petite adolescente naïve, prête à tout pour énerver son père ne remarqua rien. Elle pensait qu'il l'aimait vraiment. Que nenni. Celui-ci disparut sans laisser de traces quand elle eut enfin ouvert les jambes. C'est à ce moment-là qu'elle comprit que ses amis de l'époque avaient eu raison de la prévenir sur l'étrangeté du « couple » qu'ils formaient. Lilia apprit même plus tard qu'il fréquentait des femmes en même temps qu'elle. Quel charmant premier amour. C'est à cette époque-là que Lilia eut un déclic pour son futur : le droit, et pour son père, qui l'aida contre toutes attentes à se remettre de cette « rupture ». Mais leur complicité retrouvée ne fût pas longue, puisqu'il lui annonça quelques mois plus tard qu'il avait rencontré une femme. Femme qu'il épousa quand elle avait 21 ans. Lilia n'avait en soit rien contre cette dame, ni contre ses enfants, mais elle n'acceptait pas que son père remplace sa mère, et ses relations avec son père se dégradèrent à nouveau. Celui-ci pour compenser, lui loua un bel appartement dans le centre Parisien, qu'elle puisse prendre son indépendance et faire sa vie. Actuellement âgée de 25 ans, Lilia est avocate, passionnée par son métier. Elle s'entend même bien avec sa demi-sœur, Eden.

Red carpet season has officially come to an end and the stars of the season made sure they all looked good at Hollywood’s biggest award show, the Academy Awards. I started out with 15 looks that I love, but then I narrowed it down to 13. I probably should’ve narrowed it down more, but I practically loved everything I saw!

5 under 25

Olivia Culpo (24) – The former Miss USA stunned in a grey gown, custom made by Marchesa. Not only did she look good with the fringe, but she did some good with that dress, partnering with Stella Artois and Water.org.

Karlie Kloss (24) – I’m still wondering what Karlie Kloss was doing at the Academy Awards, but either way, she rocked it. We all know she’s used to the runway, so she made walking the red carpet look like a walk in the park. She looked fierce in the all white ensemble by Tom Ford. The cape, the jewelry, the hair…it was everything. Also, Karlie was one of the many celebrities wearing a blue ribbon showing their support for the ACLU.

Sofia Carson (23) – Sofia is known for playing the daughter of the evil queen from Snow White, but tonight she looked like an absolute princess. She chose to walk her first Oscar’s red carpet with a Monique L’huillier gown. The gold detail on the dress matched perfectly with the gold hairpiece. The sweetheart neckline was perfect for her as well!

Hailee Steinfeld (20) – Hailee looked gorgeous. I absolutely had no words when I first saw her rocking that Ralph and Russo dress. I’m glad she had her hair up, because she showed off the beautiful halter style neckline. The floral detail from head to toe made the dress look so beautiful and elegant.

Auli’i Cravalho (16) – She made her debut at the Oscars in a white gown by Rubin Singe. This dress also had some gold detail that made it look like shells on the beach, fitting for the “Moana” star.  I’m sure it’s not an easy task to walk the red carpet for the first time among so many veteran actors and actresses, but she did amazing. Her look was simple, yet perfect for her.

Red Carpet #RelationshipGoals

Chrissy Teigen & John Legend – These two are known to be #RelationshipGoals. Chrissy chose to go with a white dress by Zuhair Murad. It was a bit conservative with long sleeves, but the high slit gave it the sexy look. The silver details and the belt were perfect for the dress and accentuated the right places! John definitely complimented her in his Gucci  tuxedo.

Jessica Biel & Justin Timberlake – I’m not used to seeing these two together on the red carpet, but in their rare appearance together, they looked perfect. Jessica chose to go gold in Kaufman Franco. She shined, while Justin looked so dapper in Tom Ford.

Very Velvet

  Brie Larson – Last year, Brie stunned and won in a blue Gucci dress. This year she continues to win the red carpet in a black velevt Oscar de la Renta piece.The mermaid style dress paired with the neckline is absolutely stunning. This dress is probably in my top 5.

Taraji P. Henson – Taraji always looks good on the red carpet and she always looks fierce in whatever she decides to wear. Today, she graced the Oscars red carpet in a She yet again looked like an classic Hollywood actress in this gold Givenchy numberAlberta Ferreti gown. I believe the color is a deep violet, which looks great on her skin tone. It was a simple and classic look yet super sexy with the low cut and high leg slit.

Best Supporting Actresses

Alicia Vikander – Last year, Alicia stole our hearts in a yellow Louis Vuitton gown as she accepted her Oscar for the Best Support Actress. This year she decided to tone down the color with a simple black dress by the same designer, Louis Vuitton. The layers, the ruffles, the lace, the necklace – it looked perfect for Alicia’s petite figure.

Viola Davis – Viola walked the red carpet and accepted her Oscar in a red (or maybe blood orange) Armani Prive gown.The off-the-shoulder gown looked so elegant and classic. I noticed most of the actresses walking the red carpet wore some neutral colors, so I’m glad that Viola confidently chose to go with a brighter color. I’m always looking forward to her acceptance speeches and she delivered hers looking as beautiful as ever.

The Emmas

Emma Roberts – I caught the red carpet coverage pretty late and Emma Roberts was pretty much the first person I saw. And let me tell you, she looked so stunning. I know it’s a somewhat simple look, but the two tone (black and white) Armani Prive dress looked so perfect on her. She looked like she stepped out of an old classic Hollywood film, especially with her hair and makeup. I must also note that she worked with Red Carpet Green Dress again, wearing a sustainable dress! I think it’s safe to say she was my favorite look of the night.

Emma Stone – I will always love Emma Stone. She may be this Hollywood A-lister, but she just seems to down to earth and is definitely a loveable dork. But enough of me acting like a fangirl. She yet again looked like a classic Hollywood actress in this gold Givenchy number. This dress looked like it was inspired by 1920s flappers, with the tiered fringe. She pulled it off and wore it confidently!

Best Looks From the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards

Monday is off to a glamorous start in New York City as our favorite A-listers and fashion darlings dressed to the nines for the 2018 CFDA Awards at the Brooklyn Museum.

The annual event honors designers, emerging talent and icons who’ve made an impact on the sartorial front in womenswear, menswear and accessories. It is hosted by actress and creator of the HBO hit Insecure Issa Rae, who will be the first woman to host the ceremony in nine years. The honorees include Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, Naomi Campbell and Kim Kardashian West, who will receive a new Influencer of the Year award. Notable nominees to look out for are Virgil Abloh of Off-White and Raf Simons for Calvin Klein.

Take a peek ahead at what all the celebs donned on the red carpet for the celebration, from Kendall Jenner’s stunning lavender feathers to Riverdale star Lili Reinhart’s romantic gown.
