A building swell of keyboards, distant drumsticks click, a single bass note begins to thrum, the snare beats and then that voice still strong after all those years, all those travails. Martin Phillipps continues to defy time and trouble on The Chills new album Scatterbrain, ever seeking the sublime in the quotidian messes that are the worlds inner and outer. To confront mortality — one’s own and that of the planet — demands a reckoning and Phillipps reflects on the concentric connections between the self and the other, exploring the back and forth of cause and effect, the butterfly wing flaps of sins of commission and omission.

Backed by bassist Callum Hampton, drummer Todd Knudson, Erica Scally on guitar, violin and keyboards and Oli Wilson on keyboards, Phillipps’ trademark ear for melody remains strong although there are none of the euphoric hooks that made tracks like “Wet Blanket,” “The Male Monster From The Id” and “Heavenly Pop Hit” so memorable despite their lack of chart traction outside New Zealand.  Scatterbrain has a rich, autumnal quality, a mohair jumper comfortable despite the threadbare elbows and scruffed hems. In the vocal harmonies, layers of keyboards and a hint of “Love My Way” xylophone on “Little Alien,” the invocation of simple domestic pleasures on “Safe And Sound,” the waltz of “Destiny” with Phillipps’ quiet recognition —  “I know I won’t avoid the void eternally/And mortality/well, it must be met alone/But Destiny/have empathy I can’t face this on my own.”— The Chills provide comforting warmth.  There is an urgency here too, on the outward-looking song “Worlds Within Worlds.” In the title track, Phillipps pushes to get his points across, the music driving forward to emphasis and perhaps embed the message. Phillipps is most affecting when direct and personal. His sincerity elevates “Caught In My Eye” from what in lesser hands may have been a lachrymose lament to a hymnal lullaby backed with strings and low-end piano chords; “Scrolling through the years/Envying the tears in other people’s eyes/I won’t cry/There must be something caught in my eye.” reads as evasion but plays as apology and acceptance.

As a songwriter, Phillipps has always balanced ironic detachment and deep empathy, his combination of vulnerability and acid whilst not unique has produced an inimitable catalogue. Scatterbrain is a record of stocktaking but also of hope, at 32 minutes perhaps a lesser entry in The Chills’ canon, it is reminder that one of the great shapers and survivors of the antipodean sound still has much to offer.

This December, FOX takes TV's #1 show and adds a little twist. Based on the smash hit FOX series THE MASKED SINGER and inspired by a popular segment featured on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," all-new celebrity competition series THE MASKED DANCER will have a special premiere Sunday, Dec. 27 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/5:00-6:00 PM PT, Live to all Time Zones), before having its time period premiere Wednesday, Jan. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). Hosted by comedian/actor Craig Robinson ("Ghosted," "The Office") and featuring celebrity panelists Ken Jeong (THE MASKED SINGER, I CAN SEE YOUR VOICE), world-famous choreographer and singer Paula Abdul, actor and the former "Giraffe" Mask on THE MASKED SINGER Brian Austin Green and actress and singer Ashley Tisdale, THE MASKED DANCER will feature celebrity contestants shaking their tail feathers, while covered from head-to-toe in elaborate costumes and face masks, leaving audiences to guess their identities. Based on the BBC UK original series "Miranda," CALL ME KAT stars Bialik as a woman who struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that she can still live a happy and fulfilling life despite still being single at 39. Which is why she recently spent her entire savings to open a cat café in Louisville, Kentucky. It was expected of KAT (Bialik) to be married with kids by now, but for many reasons, she's still single - and totally fine with it. The series stars Tim Allen as MIKE BAXTER, a happily married father of three daughters, who finds himself the odd man out in a home dominated by women. For the first time ever, 16 aspiring chefs from around the country will roll the dice and head to Sin City in the hopes of winning big. OWEN STRAND (Rob Lowe) welcomes Vega to the 126, he must face the unexpected arrival of his ex-wife, Gwyneth (recurring guest star Lisa Edelstein, "House"), who visits Austin to check on their firefighter son, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein), following the injuries he sustained at the end of last season. All of this occurs as the rescue squad must deal with an emergency that the Texas capital has never encountered before. Looking back on 2019 I decided to list a handful of political / alternative news websites rather than films, albums or books. In the UK the corporate media stooped to shocking new lows during our recent General Election campaign. Such dirty tactics are to be expected of conglomerates owned by the likes of Rupert Murdoch and his fellow right wing billionaires but this time around, previously ‘liberal’ outlets such as the BBC and Guardian also fully participated in the outrageous lies, smears and character assassination against the leader of the opposition Labour Party. The British population were now being forced fed the Establishment’s propaganda du jour from every possible direction. Personally I try to gather my information from as many alternative outlets as possible to contrast with the 24 hour corporate brainwashing we’re subjected to these days. I’ve listed just five sites from the dozens I regularly visit and although I certainly don’t agree with everything expressed on these sites I do feel that it essential that in supposed free and democratic societies we are at least exposed to a variety of viewpoints and opinions - rather than being trapped inside social media echo chambers in an Internet that is increasingly controlled and censored by sophisticated algorithms and where politically correct digital lynch mobs accuse anyone with an opinion that contradicts the official narrative of being a Russian agent! Anyway, a Happy New Year to you all and here’s hoping 2020 sets the new decade off in roaring style!

2019 was far from my favorite year. Regardless, I managed to release not one, but two new double albums by The Flying Luttenbachers (as well as two European tours with the unit) in addition to the usual slew of improvised music gigs and releases, and co-ordinating and producing an archival release of vintage NYC weirdness (Ozone). I also rocked Mexico City with Lydia Lunch Retrovirus, played a ridiculous gig with Encenathrakh, and disbanded Cellular Chaos (for now, at least).

When I become obsessed (or re-obsessed with something), it usually leads to a ton of proselytizing Facebook status posts. Combing my 2019 posts, it seems that my musical obsessions this year weren't very highbrow. Ha ha ha. Yes, I'm super into Xenakis, Cecil Taylor and whatever else, but dumber music can supply great creature comfort, and I guess I needed that in large amounts, so that's what it was. Sometimes badass modernists have to take time out to stay in bed all day and read comics because it's a hard cold world out there.

KLAS-TV:n raportti

KLAS-TV:n uutisraportissa heinäkuun 25. päivänä 2018 journalistit George Knapp ja Matt Adams julkistivat listan 38 DIRDistä, jotka on tuotettu USA:n puolustustiedusteluviraston (Defense Intelligence Agency, DIA) sopimuksella kehittyneiden avaruusaseiden ohjelmaan (Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program, AAWSAP). Vaikka listan lähdettä ei koskaan paljastettukaan, entinen ohjelman johtaja Luis Elizondo on vahvistanut, että lista oli aito.

”Kongressin pöytäkirja”

Sitten, blogipostauksessa, joka on päivätty 15. elokuuta 2018, mainittiin että”Kongressin pöytäkirja” päivämäärällä huhtikuun 9. 2018 sisälsi seuraavan huomautuksen:

”4381. Kirje johtajalta, Kongressin suhdedivisioona, puolustusvoimien tiedustelupalvelu, puolustusministeriö, joka välittää listan asepalvelukomitealle kaikista kehittyneiden avaruusaseiden tunnistusohjelman alaisuudessa tuotetuista tuotteista puolustusvoimien tiedustelupalvelun julkaistavaksi.

Nick Pope

Tammikuun 17. päivänä 2019 Nick Pope ohjeisti Facebookissa, että ”DIA:n viestintätoimisto on toimittanut minulle kirjeen, jonka DIA lähetti kongressin AATIP-komitealle.” Kirje oli päivätty 9. tammikuuta 2018; se oli osoitettu John McCainille, senaatin asepalvelukomitealle, ja sen oli allekirjoittanut Christine Kapnisi, DIA:n kongressisuhdedivisioonan päällikkö.

Mukana oli kolmen sivun pituinen listaus ”38 raportista, jotka liittyvät DIA:n mukanaoloon ohjelmassa, joka on dokumentoitu listassa.”

Vertailtaessa näitä kahta dokumenttia, monien DIRDien otsikot ovat samoja tai hyvin lähellä kuin Knapp/Adamsin listassa. Tuon 38. dokumentin otsikko on nyt ratkennut. Oli ollut sekä julkiseksi tehty että salattu versio tutkimuksesta Korkeaenergisten laseraseiden viimeisimmät sovellukset ja niiden arviointi, J Albertine, Directed Technologies. 

Lisäksi kysymys siitä mitä ”tuotteet” olivat, mihin viitattiin ”Kongressipöytäkirjassa” on nyt ratkaistu. ”Tuotteet” olivat nuo 38 DIRD-dokumenttia. Tämä on jossain määrin pettymys, sillä jotkut tutkijat ovat uskoneet ”tuotteiden” olevan kaikki se paperityö mitä AATIP on saanut aikaan vuosien saatossa. Valitettavasti näin ei ole asian laita. Odotamme edelleen tietopyyntöä koko AATIP-paperityöstä.

Will Smith és Martin Lawrence újra akcióban a várva várt Bad Boys for Life forgatáson.

Sokáig úgy tűnt, hogy a rajongók lemondhatnak a Bad Boys harmadik részéről, miután a stúdió nem tudta eldönteni, érdemes-e folytatni a 2003-ban bemutatott második részt, ami már akkor is alulteljesített az első részhez képest. Végül Joe Carnaham rendezővel az élén a projekt mozgásba lendült, egymás után érkeztek a biztató jelek, hogy Will Smith és Martin Lawrence alakításában egy korhatáros folytatást látunk, a forgatókönyv is elkészült, azonban kreatív különbségekre hivatkozva Carnaham hatát fordított a Sonynak, s azzal egy időre megpecsételve a Bad Boys for Life sorsát.

Azonban a színészek kitartott a projekt mellett, és végül tavaly év végén Smith és Lawrence közösségi oldalon jelentette be, hogy aláírtak a filmre, jöhet a harmadik rész. Azután a Sony is nagyobb sebességre kapcsolt, új forgatókönyvírót kapott a projekt, és a héten már Adil El Arbi és Bilall Fallah rendezőpáros egy kamera próbát is tartott Will Smith-szel közösen, majd hétfőtől már hivatalos is forog a film.

Will Smith újra akcióban a Bad Boys franchise legújabb rész forgatásán, amire oly sok évet kellett várnunk, de végre a Sonytól zöld lámpát kapott a projekt, s elkészül a rosszfiúk harmadik része. A nulladik napról kiszivárgott videó után már valós forgatási képeket kaptunk Mike Lowrey nyomozóról, aki mintha valaki elől menekülne a fotókon. Talán a drogkartell emberei lehettek, akikről szó esett korábban? Nem tudni, cak azt, hogy később Martin Lawrence is csatlakozott a jelenethez.

Martin Lawrence és Will Smith mellett visszatér Joe Pantoliano Howard kapitány szerepében, de lesznek új szereplői is a harmadik résznek, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton és Paola Nuñez, akik az AMMO különleges rendőri egység embereit alkotják. Ők lesznek ezúttal Marcus és Mike segítői, hogy rács mögé dugják Jacob Scipio Paola Nunez nevű drogkartell fejét. De a héten kiderült az is, hogy világhírű DJ Khaled is csatlakozott a szereplőgárdához, de az ő szerepe egyelőre ismeretlen a filmben.

Kíváncsian várjuk, mire lesz képes a Bad Boys for Life, ami közel 20 évvel az utolsó rész után kerül a mozikba. A kamera már forog, és várhatóan nyáron a marketing is beindul, hiszen a filmet 2020 január 17-én fogják bemutatni az amerikai mozikban, és ilyen hosszú kihagyás után elfér egy jó kampány a filmhez. Nincs más teendők, mint hátradőlni a fotelben, és várni az újabb híreket a Bad Boys for Life részről, s bízni benne, hogy a jó kezekbe került az új rész.
