** Old Port, Montréal ** When life gives you ice, buy some skates! The Québécois people and tourists alike gather by the Ferris wheel at the Old Port in Old Town Montréal every winter to enjoy a network of ice skating pathways. The grounds are very well maintained and skaters can hire a lock and a box locker for belongings (it costs $5, plus a $5 deposit which you get back when you return the lock). Of course, skates of all sizes can be hired too and if you're frequently skating, it's a good idea to visit one of the many thrift stores in Montréal to invest in your own pair. For the locker hire, the ticket booth will give you a ticket and a ziptie to tie the ticket to your jacket, this needs to be displayed for you to go onto the ice. If hiring skates, you have them all day, so of you need to leave, you can lock them up and return later on.
