Bryan Ansell has passed away at age 68 (11 October 1955 -- 30th December 2023).
Bryan Ansell founded Citadel Miniatures in 1978 in partnership with Games Workshop, and co-wrote the original 1983 Warhammer Fantasy Battles first edition rules with Richard Halliwell and Rick Priestley. He became managing director of Games Workshop in the mid-1980s, and was primary owner of GW until selling his shares in 1991. He also founded Wargames Foundry / Foundry Miniatures, which continues to produce many older Citadel figures among many other ranges.

I feel we don't talk enough about how unique and underrated the vibe of the old Warhammer dragon designs used to be. Like...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's something neat at how theyfeel like classical Western dragons but with a very specific sort of snake-y/noodle-y look that's more distinctly an Eastern Dragon/Long thing!
Tho, this was probably mainly to save on materials back in the day, given these things used to be cast in metal and all.
Regardless, modern Warhammer dragons look a lot more standard, which is fine and all, but I'd love to see more new ones in this style.
Source for the images BTW is the Collecting Citadel Miniatures Wiki, which is a great place to browse if you wanna look up old and obscure Warhammer minis!

This year's Orktober slate is a treat and really, really old.
Orc Girls on Roller Skates and a couple of '97 Shoota Boys. There's also a Gorkamorka-era Truck, not pictured.
Tumblr media
Orc Girls on Roller Skates with Uzis was a set made by Dark Horse Miniatures back in 1985. These and several others tied into an RPG called "Excursion into the Bizarre," which I have zero experience with. Dark Horse is mostly remembered for producing the first-ever licensed product for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1984. By 1987, Dark Horse was sold to Goldring which also promptly went out of business.

So my local antiquary bookstore had this in stock.
It is soo good.
I love this little chart of loyalties: (I did not know Night lords hated Emperors children 😅)
Tumblr media
It is also signed, but perhaps all of these were originally?

Finally done! I built and primed this silly gentleman back in 1988 and he has been bouncing around my painting area ever since then and has fallen apart many times since he is all metal, rather heavy, and I never did pin any of the joints for added strength. But now I can call him done.
