#umineko #umineko spoilers #ikuko hachijo #ikukos turn for a more serious piece... the old man has reigned for too long #now. INCREDIBLY LONG INCOHERENT TAGS RANT INCOMING FAIR WARNING HAS BEEN GIVEN:#it makes me so so sad how little discussion there is about specifically ikuko because imho she fits so neatly into a lot of the more #overarching Big Themes of the game in a way that i have not ever really seen people take notice of or point out in a meaningful way #like even just off of the top of my head. the significance of names and what it means to go by a name that's Not Yours (she has like 4+)#what it Means to be a witch how it represents a person's deepest insecurities and flaws & how its at its core a coping mechanism #the fact that it takes two to create a universe and trying to do it on your own anyways has the capacity to bring you intense misery #^ (how she's shown to be extremely dismissive of her own work and skill until a collaborator comes into her life and helps/encourages her)#and even the family/patriarchy/misogyny stuff that is so prevalent in the rest of the game comes back around to her. even her Only Friend #(young&stupid atp to be fair) remarks that shes Weird for being unmarried + the little she does say about her past invites the question of #to what extent her self-image stems from her family deeming her a freak outcast & effectively disowning her while celebrating her brothers #and i have lot in my mind about the witch thing specifically because i think her particular situation is very reflective of what umineko's #entire magic system and fantasy facet as a whole is meant to represent for an individual. from what little we see of (what is presumably)#her Real personality she is shown to be deeply self conscious in a way that is JARRINGLY diametrically opposed to both 1.) what we see in #featherine and 2.) what we see when she is acting as a Public Figure. because both of the above are very much purposeful acts that she is #putting on in order to obfuscate her true self. and i have always been very resolute & adamant about not totally equating her to featherine #not only because im very firmly in the camp of “featherine is the avatar of the Pen Name & tohya is part of her too” but also very much b/c #i feel very strongly that the stark differences between the two are very centrally relevant to her character & her psyche. as is the case #with most other witches featherine's personality traits serve to reveal/magnify a lot of ikukos inner workings by playing on her #insecurities/reversing them e.g. ikuko being very quick to downplay her skill/achievements becomes featherine being the COMPLETE opposite #to the point where she barely registers even other witches as living beings rather than just fun touys. BUT even though i do champion the #ikuko/featherine separation so hard i ALSO think it is purposefully relevant that at first glance the line between them seems so blurry #her introduction implying a more nebulous separation between her reality/fantasy counterpart is i think is an intentional move on her part #like it is part of the front she is putting up when acting as the Author. as opposed to Ikuko the person who we (in a way ironically very #similar to the way that the Real Battler is presumably only shown during the boatscene) only very briefly get to see take up screentime #which even on a meta level lines up very well with her apparent underlying nature as a like. extremely private largely reserved/shy person #hit tag limit but if by some miracle anyone is still reading this thank you... please see ikuko with the love she deserves... ok ily byeee

Friendly reminder that Starfire's solo comic from 2015-2016, which had mediocre to straight up bad writing, did not end because of poor sales, unlike so many other comics which actually ended because of how weak they sold. Starfire actually sold well and DC wanted more issues, but the writers had another project and did not have any ideas so they decided to walk off:

Starfire sells very well. Her most recent graphic novel from last year sold incredibly well, surpassed Batman comics in print and made it to the New York Times bestsellers list:

Starfire is a fan favourite that can very easily hold her own solo comic. It's the lack of interest in her character at DC that keeps her down, not the fans or the sells, which were never the issue.

#there is so much misinformation - mainly in the online bubble - on how Kory could not hold her own solo #which is simply false #and both these comics had incredibly mediocre writing and characterization #and people still bought them #imagine the number of sales with a good writer and artist? with a good storyline?#Kory antis stuck in the online bubble really push this idea that she's not truly relevant or loved - which is simply insane 😭#Kory and Diana are the most popular it's time some people accept that #the only reason they're not allowed to reach their true potential is misoginy and crusty dusty old men terrified they will surpass the men #Kory on her own has been popular for years with absolutely no help or input for DC #so I need people to do actual research before speaking on her #the people's princess 🩷#koriand'r #starfire

I’m actually very curious as to why Draxum wanted a soft shell turtle specifically as part of his super soldier project. Or if maybe he had Donnie for a different experiment and Donnie showed signs of being extremely smart even as a regular turtle. And that’s why draxum mutated him too. That whole thing has always bothered me because this was a very meticulous plan on Draxums part and Donnie is generally treated like his species makes him weaker so why pick him?

in the case of where we went wrong i actually make him purposefully built to be more fragile as a failsafe-- it's a question of whether or not you want to make them intentionally designed or genetically engineered when it comes to hc, and donnie's intelligence is otherworldly. its mostly used for jokes how fucking insane that is but like. in wwww i do make a point about how draxum greatly fears donnie usurping him in some way, or growing too strong for him. he's built weaker in case he needs to be put down like a dog lmaoooo

as for what i assume the CANON intent was, soft shells do have a lot of strengths and they're vicious, their softer shells are just a quirk of their species. humans dont have shells either and that's not something they would have complexes about, and i dont think draxum would even see him that way.

I think a lot about how much people missed the point of the whole Russian plot that was introduced in season 3. I’ve seen posts about the belief that seasons 1 & 2 were critiquing the American government but then they got cold feet and went all patriotic in season 3 because of the show’s success so they made the Russians the villains and that’s just very much not true at all. The point of that plot line was to draw paralleles between the USSR & the USA, critiquing both American capitalism and the Russian brand of communism. I think there being a Russian base of operations under the new mall (both of which blow up on the 4th of July) that’s shutting down small businesses across the town and causing people to lose their jobs which generates a subplot of a corrupt mayor who shuts down peaceful protests is a very on the nose metaphor for that. I think people also forget how much focus Stranger Things puts on having a historical setting. The entire plot and story is directly impacted and inspired by of the culture of the 80’s meaning the arms race during the Cold War is going to come up. It’s not hard to believe that if America has access to monsters from an alternate dimension that Russia would want in on that too.

#the whole big bright patriotic capitalism of season 3 is literally supposed to be deconstructed by the viewer it quite literally is hiding #something sinister like come on #also the whole argument about how s3 is big American pro capitalism season because of Erica’s who speech about it is ridiculous to me like #that is a precocious 11 year old who is extorting minimum wage workers for free ice cream we are not supposed to take that seriously at all #the only critique I agree with when it comes to this is the fact that there was literally a Coke ad written into the show because Netflix #was sponsored by coke at the time like yeah that was dumb #even then they worked around it well because like coke changing it’s flavour in the 80’s is relevant to you know. the 80’s show #still stupid tho #I’m not saying stranger things is like a radical leftist piece of fiction of course not it’s a fucking Netflix show but it’s not as #patriotic and yay capitalism good as people have been saying it is since season 3 #also want to mention that in the play Joyce owns a copy of the communist manifesto #anyway #stranger things

#kingdom hearts dream drop distance #khddd #braig #xigbar #my gif #his pointy shoulders deflated with age #...do you ever wonder about his scarf?#radiant garden took pride in its beauty and ansem the wise was a ruler who was beloved and admired by his people (despite... yknow)#so is it safe to assume that being a guard of this world being tasked with protecting the castle/its ruler/and the townspeople-#would be considered a prestigious occupation?#yet we see braig wearing an old tattered scarf #it's a curious addition to his uniform that looks out of place among other guards #i dont think it was added to his design to help him stand out because cmon it's not like he's competing for relevance with dilan and aeleus #braig fights from afar with his guns it's not like he's some scrappy guy that might have messy clothes from battle #i wouldn't be surprised if this was ephemer's scarf that he somehow came into possession of #and is holding onto it with the possibly of it being used as some kind of medium/waypoint #who's to say he's not still wearing it under his organization coat? just because we can't see it anymore doesn't mean it's gone #riku had an entirely different outfit under his own organization coat so who knows what xigbar has under there #i like to think braig used to be scolded for wearing the scarf because it covers up the uniform's emblem #and wearing old ripped articles of clothing isn't part of the image the guards would presumably have to uphold #but eventually they gave up on making him take it off because he just does whatever he wants #just something i think about from time to time #xigbar has always been so mysterious and cryptic i can't help but keep an extra close eye on him #especially since he's been revealed to be so much more than what he seems. who knows what tricks he has up his sleeve #i don't think it's outside the realm of possibility
