When There are Clouds, there is Rain (Backstory: Old AU Tale Papyrus)

Warning: Death, sadness, angst, lots of angst, repeated deaths, impalement, beheading, painful backstory, Toxin, hopelessness, etc.

Papyrus moves as he walks. It's the same day as usual. The children are playing, the Queen and King are at odds, Undyne is focused on her task, and Alphys is working really hard. Nothing is strange or off… At least to the inexperienced eye.

However, Papyrus was not an inexperienced eye. He knew something was wrong. The same day would happen again and over again. There was no change, no significant difference; it would begin and end the same. He would go on patrol and believe everything was OK, but he knew otherwise. He realized this was the end of it all.

He would try and change it, try everything he could to rewrite the script, but nothing could stop it. Nothing. It would never change; it was the same as always. He clenched his jaw lightly as he came to a stop. There was Monster Kid playing with Frisk.

He clasped his fist around his blade. Monster Kid, he remembered how that child died. They couldn't run quickly enough. They called for Undyne, but they were dusted before she arrived. He failed them.

"Paps, you okay?" Deidamia's voice jolted him out of his deep thought. He looked at her. He had told her to run, far away and fast.

"Yes…. I'm fine." Papyrus answered slowly. He had no idea if she had perished because he had dusted before he could find out.

"C'mon, Papyrus, you're acting weirder than usual." Undyne interrupted his thoughts yet again. He strengthened his grip on his sword. He saw her dying, and she told him to run, so he did. But she kept battling till the bitter end.

"Sorry, general." Papyrus gave a bashful smile back. Undyne patted his back, and Deidamia grinned back. The two girls began discussing about something he had heard countless times before. He slowed his feet when he noticed Sans and his father talking about something as they walked by. He knew it was about the contraption that would allow all of them to escape the Underground.

However, he never knew whether its studies had yielded any fruit… Everyone died before they could test it. The Queen actively supported and engaged in the research. He began moving again. He was present as the Queen and King made their last stand against the machines that destroyed everything. He wasn't sure if their children had survived the assault because Sans had taken them before he had dusted.

He remembers his death... Well, deaths. As they changed, the day would repeat itself. They'd cut off his head, impale him… He shuddered at the memory. He was wondering how he would die this time. Would they crush him? Put him out swiftly and painlessly? He doesn't know. He never knows. He's just glad Monster Kid's death was mercifully short and it never changed. He watched as time ticked by.

It would happen again shortly… Shouldn't it? His thoughts turned to what would happen if he could somehow save everyone…? Will the day merely repeat itself? It seemed like a fruitless endeavor the more he thought of it. Regardless, he was the only one who recalled it… At least he thought so.

Sometimes he'd have dreams… Well, nightmares about every death, every one pleading with him to help them, everyone reaching out to him… He shakes his head. If he gave it more thought, he'd experience the memories. It reminded him of a dream he had about his mother, who was slain by one of the machines in his late childhood. He shook his head again; this was not the time.

"You're doing it again." Deidamia broke his mind out of the thoughts again. She was the only human on the guard since she fell in. She was very observant, he had to admit. He looked at her before he gave a grin.

"I'm just thinking of what we'll do tomorrow." Papyrus confidently responds. He was fully aware that there would be no tomorrow. Deidamia chuckles and smiles at him. Undyne clicked her tongue and chuckled, too. He watched them and felt his heart start to hurt. He'd never see those smiles again, would he? They would never see tomorrow.

"I say! We take the kids out for training." Undyne smiled and threw her arm around his shoulder. He felt his SOUL weigh more. This would never happen.

"And Nice Cream!" Deidamia spoke up, and he couldn't take his eyes off them. He simply couldn't...

"It looks like it's going to rain..." Papyrus muttered and Deidamia blinked before she smiled.

"Yeah, when there are clouds, there's usually rain." Deidamia nudged his arm with a grin. He looked back before... And then he heard the bell chime. His blood ran completely cold.

He could hear the screams and felt Undyne and Deidamia pull away from them as they began to say the same two phrases "What was that?" "No time to wonder, we have to help them!" He didn't have time to say anything as the two started running. This was the first time they ventured far into their home. They pushed them back for so long, and they worked so hard.

He started chasing the two as if his feet were moving on their own. He heard screaming that was quickly silenced, magic, battle, and he could see everything. Already, the city had begun to burn. Mettaton and Napstablook were forcing civilians back, as Undyne and Deidamia entered the conflict. His mind became blank when he heard a loud cry.

Monster Kid!

"Undyne!" Monster Kid yelled, and Undyne turned her head, her eyes wide with dread. She started to grasp for them. As he watched the attack come at them, he extended his hand. A bone pierced the ground, and he struck the machine in the core. He didn't have time to think, so he scooped up the child and noticed, if only for a moment, the world around Monster Kid flicker and dust fall in their place. He knew that it was fruitless then, but he could try.

And he did. He tried so hard.

The violence escalated, people were ganged up on, and they were dusted.

"GO! Your brother needs you!" Undyne demanded, shoving the skeleton back. When an attack came her way, she formed a wall of spears. Her armor had chipped and shattered.

"Undyne-! Alphys needs you!! You can't do this! Please!" Papyrus shouted, but Undyne pushed him aside with a harmless attack as another attack was directed at her.

"Papyrus…" Undyne's voice was so clear and genuine, yet he knew it couldn't be. He realized he couldn't do anything to stop it. He knew! He knew! But he wanted to, he wanted to so so badly. He could feel tears stinging his eye sockets. "Tell Alphys I love her." Her voice is clear and sweet. Full of love for Alphys, it took all his effort not to fall to his knees. Her magic ignited, her body shifted, and she fought back. He could see the attackers surrounding her. He tried to help her, but it was futile as he saw her crumble into dust. Deidamia's loud sob, as well as her grabbing over his arm as he pulled her back, tore his SOUL even further. She demanded that he let her through.

"Papyrus! Move! Papyrus-! Undyne needs us, Papyrus!" Deidamia's voice was strained with sorrow. He heard her clearly, his eyes fixed on the dust mound that was Undyne, but he didn't have time to think. He flung her over his shoulder, and Deidamia's cries for Undyne stung more than any wound he had. He knew she saw the dust and the monsters.

He didn't have time to mourn, so he began tearing into the machinery. He did not halt or hesitate. When he was surrounded, he flung Deidamia to safety while summoning dual bone swords to push them back.

"Papyrus!" Deidamia sobbed, but he ignored her. He leapt forward and stood in front of her. His eyes sparkled as his power began to cause fractures in the ground. His breathing was irregular, and his soul tore with each stride.

"Deidamia, get out of here." Papyrus gave a cold order. "That's an order." Papyrus never really used his position against her. He could see her eyes widen as he cast a short glance at her. Tears streamed down her cheeks, and her lips quivered. She was shaking. It made him feel too much like himself.

"Papyrus-"

"Don't look back when you do. Don't stop. Don't even think about fighting. Run. Don't stop. Run until you find someone." Papyrus' voice felt too chilly even for him, but he didn't have time to soften it. "I'm not going to survive this." Papyrus made it apparent, and Deidamia's breath caught as she began to speak. "This has happened many times. I know how it will end." Papyrus used a bone assault as a machine approached him. He clenched his eyes tightly. "Please, Deidamia... Go."

Deidamia opened her mouth but then began to move back. Her eyes flooded with tears. Papyrus consciously ignored her expression as he shifted his concentration.

"Well. You have me entirely to yourself. Let us get this over with. Papyrus repositioned his weapons before charging into the clash of the machines. He tore, ripped, and did not care about the wounds he received. He fought until his body screamed for him to stop. He panted, blood streaming down his face. He moved position.

"You're still fighting?" Toxin's vicious voice echoed through the machine. He panted and sneered. His eyes trembled as he concentrated. "I'll give it to you; you've survived longer than prior occasions… It's rather enjoyable." The voice hissed. Papyrus growled back as blasters appeared behind him. "But you look about ready to collapse like a house of cards." The voice mocked as the machines returned to the fray. "We'll see how long you last."

The conflict persisted. Papyrus was barely hanging on when it began to rain. He battled and fought, but was eventually defeated and struck in the side. He collapsed on the ground. He had fought so hard he was bleeding out. He knew he was. He could feel his life draining. Despite defeating them, he died before witnessing the outcome. He shakily held his phone. His palm shook, and he strained to concentrate as the rain dropped harder. He dialed Alphys' number. And he held the phone so that he could hear her.

He could hear Alphys' distraught voice on the other end, calling his name urgently. I asked whether he was okay, where he was, and if everything was all right… But he knew she was aware that he had called for a reason.

"Undyne… Didn't make it, and I don't have much time." Papyrus merely informed her. Alphys' voice began to break, but he interrupted her before she could say anything else. His vision blurred gradually but steadily. "Undyne wanted me to tell you… She loves you." Papyrus muttered as he heard Alphys burst into tears as his hand slipped and fell to the ground.

He didn't have enough strength to hold it up as he began to dust. He glanced up at the sky, the rain gently washing the blood away from his face. He felt exhausted. He could hear Alphys anxiously saying his name via the receiver. He slowly closed his eyes. He could feel his body dust faster as he felt his life drain.

But then... He opened his eyes again. He stared blankly at the ceiling. He knew it... He covered his face with his arm... It was the same day as before. He slowly looks out at the sky. His eyes starting to get as cloudy as the sky. He sighed as he closed his eyes.

Deidamia was right...

When there are clouds, it rains.

I went back and tried design more Undertale characters for the Asriel Crownbearer AU. === (Edit: these descriptions were added back in after the first posting)

Sans & Papyrus

The skeleton brothers are merchants in Anura.

They sell hot dogs(not good), spaghetti(not good), and miscellaneous items you can find in a convenience store(don't ask how).

Sans deliberately doesn't join ANY cult in the Lands of the Old Faith while Papyrus is tempted to join Asriel's cult.

For some reason, the Crown cannot mindread Sans and Papyrus. However, Asriel doesn't really need mindread to mindread Papyrus.

Like the original, Papyrus becomes good friends(mutuals at least) with Asriel and admires Undyne.

Muffet

She is a follower of Shamura and a high-ranked enforcer.

After Alphys left and joined Asriel, Muffet hated her and deemed her a traitor.

Monster Kid

They followed Undyne to the cult as she recused them from the Bishops' cultists during a holy quest.

Just like the original, they admired Undyne more than the king(Asriel in this case).

Temmie

Temmies lives in Temmie Village.

Temmies worship Temmie.

Temmie is Temmie.

Temmie is Life.

Temmie please put down the knife.

Saladpants (Burgerpants/Pizzapants)

He works as a waiter at Rakshasa's restaurant.

Everyone at the restaurant kept calling him "Saladpants" as he always served them the restaurant's top-selling dish "Beetroot Salad". (Rakashasa's dishes were shown in Jalala's Journal)

Napstablook

They were a demon by a demonic summoning.

They forgot who and why were summoned

They have been wandering around the lands for quite some time.

Enforcer Guardian 01 & Enforcer Guardian 02 (Royal Guard 01 & Royal Guard 02)

These two men are enforcers of the Old Faith.

Just like the original, EG01 has a HUGE crush on EG02.

Don't worry, these lovers won't die. They ended up joining Asriel, probably mostly because of Undyne.

Any rambling I’ve got to say is under the cut.

I’ve been revising the original Undertale game for a while since it’s such a gem and inspires me to me than I can describe. UnderQuest (or then known as QuestTale) was an au I made on a whim over five years ago that never came to much of anything.

Admittedly at the time I had not much beyond some unsorted ideas and designs of the main cast. (save for Toriel and Asgore but for some reason I had Napstablook and Mettaton down??)

Since I’m revisiting that old idea and revamping it (along with some more new stuff) I thought I’d make little sheets dedicated to ideas before I flesh the story out completely.

I do plan to remake what little I had of the UQQT comic eventually, though it will take me some time.

Hey there! It's been a while, huh? I'm sorry for my absence, but life got in the way.

Anyway,

I came up with some concepts and ideas about the Hazbin Hotel x Undertale AU of @discofama !

Charlie:

-She's seven years old.

-Charlie's an half-human half-monster Hybrid. While she has a human appearance, her pupils are much more pointy, but she can show her monster form when she's feeling really strong emotions.

-She didn't have a family back on the surface. She lived in an orphanage all her life and she wasn't well-seen by the others.-

-She went to Mount Sheol to find answers about her origins.

Lucifer:

-King of the monsters with a Goat appearance. While he's still silly like in the original show, he's also much more present in his Kingdom, even if only by afar.

-He still loves rubber ducks.-

-He and Lilith had an amazing and loving relationship, but it became strained after "the incident".

-He was very close and had a friendly rivalry with Adam, but after "the incident", their relationship became cold and only professional.

-He was an amazing Uncle to ---- and ---- and was their favorite babysitter.

-He misses his child a lot.

Lilith:

-The only human that decided to stand by the monsters' side during the war, and that's why she was locked in the Underground along with all Monsterkind.

-She's the Caretaker of the ruins.

-While she doesn't like humans, she has a soft spot for children.

-She always wanted to become a Singer.

-She used to sing lullabies to ---- and ---- to help them fall asleep.

-She loved Lucifer very much and was the reason why she decided to fight alongside Monsters.

-She and Adam had a sibling-like bond, but she hasn't seen him in a long time.

-She hopes her child is safe.

Alastor:

-A deer monster that has something to Hide.

-He has Flowey's role in the story. While he doesn't Attack Charlie and helps her a few times, in the story there are hints that he's actually trying to get rid of her. What are his real intentions...?

-He's a good friend with Rosie and a father figure to Niffty.

Molly:

-She has Napstablook's role. She spends most of the time in the ruins and misses her Brothers alot.

Vaggie:

-She has Papyrus' role. She's a kid Monster with the appearance of a Siberian Husky, who wishes to become part of the Royal Guard to protect others.

-Her real name is Vagatha. But Adam calls her "Vagina" to tease her.

-Adam and Lute are both like mentors to her, even though they both can be difficult in their own ways.

-She's very good at fighting.

-Adam taught her to play the Guitar. She's not bad at it, but not good either.

-She may be just a kid, but she's more competent than the Royal Guards at times.

The Royal Guard:

-The Exorcists have the role of the canine Royal Guards. They're all dog monsters.

-They all adore Adam and want to make him proud.

-They love being petted!

-They have a group special attack: THE ROYAL PUPPY DOG EYES!

Moony:

-She has Monster Kid's role. She's the First Exorcist that got killed by Carmilla in the show.

-She's a dog Monster with the appearance of a Golden retriever.

-She's five years old.

-She looks up to Adam and Lute a lot.

Adam:

-He's the Captain of the Royal Guards. A dragon Monster who you don't want to mess with.

-Has a deep hatred for humans and is very mocking and violent while attacking Charlie. He has his reasons, though...

-He still loves playing the Guitar and loves rock music. His guitar, just like in the original show, can turn into an ax.

-Adam and Lucifer weren't friends at first. Adam became really bitter, because he thought Lucifer was going to take away his wife and he was afraid to lose her, so he challenged him to a battle but he couldn't hit him even once (Similar to Undyne and Asgore) Adam felt very humiliated, but Lucifer offered to train him so he could beat him one day. The more the training went on, the more the two bonded, and when Adam was finally able to hit Lucifer, he felt... Bad, very bad. But Lucifer was super happy and proud of Adam. And that's when they officially became friends.

-Him and Lucifer were close and had a friendly rivalry. Everytime they met, they would attack eachother, in trying to get the other off guard (Much like Meliodas and Ban from The Seven Deadly Sins)

-He loved his wife very much. He was also a good, protective dad.-

-He cares about Lute alot, she was the one who got him out of his depressive state after "The Incident".

-He sees Vaggie as a daughter and really doesn't want her getting hurt again. That's why he's hesitant about letting her in the Royal Guard.

-He often wonders where Lilith went. He won't admit it (yet), but he misses her.

-Deep down, he's actually a softie.

Lute:

-Adam's Liutenant, a german shepherd Monster that appears cold and ruthless.

-She hates humans too for what they did to Monsterkind and because of "The Accident".

-She and Adam fight together most of the time, and have synchronized attacks.

-She's secretely in love with Adam, but doesn't want to push him to have a relationship with her.

-She cares about Vaggie and sees lots of strenght and potential in her, but thinks that she's too merciful and it might get her killed.

-The oldest of the Royal Guards, along with Adam. She thinks the others can be too childish at times.-

Sir Pentious:

-The Underground's Royal Scientist and inventor. He's a snake monster.

-The Egg Boys are basically his children, since they were his first ever science experiment and he used a bit of his DNA to make them.

-He has a crush on Cherri Bomb, despite her destroying his work most of the time.

-He has a difficult friendship with the Vees.

The Vees:

-They're the stars of the Underground. Vox is still a TV, Velvette is a doll monster and Valentino is still a moth.

-They're less cruel and evil than the Canon Vees.

-They want Charlie's soul to go on the surface and become stars there too.

Au from Subtertale: Suteraychutertale.

Story:

Many years ago, the peaceful and harmonious coexistence between humans and monsters on the surface was strong, pure and perpetual but all that changed when a radical group of humans from Shymattiville spread tremendous hatred towards monsters which later led to a devastating war.

The humans rose to victory and drove the monsters from the surface and instead of exiling them underground, the humans used an artificial portal created by the scientists of Shymattiville to put the monsters inside the portal and send them to an ancient space station called: Asytorarisu Ebott, located 1,000,000 km from Earth.

Once the humans sent the monsters to the space station...the 7 human mages entered the portal and created a magic barrier around the station.

Many years passed and that station was rehabilitated and transformed by the monsters to turn it into a safe and prosperous home and also thanks to an invention of Alphys that collects energy from the stars and a part of the divine energy that Rocío granted them, the monsters became stronger, they developed impressive abilities.

Several years later, 7 astronauts between 20 and 29 years old from the Great State Center of Aeronautics and Space of Keteiville and Shymattiville that closed after what happened: The 7 astronauts traveled to the space station to do research on it and how the monsters lived inside it... but something inexplicable happened inside the station and all of them never returned to Earth. (The astronauts were the 6 souls and Chara).

A few years later...Lyra, a 19-year-old girl and Chara's younger sister (that's right in this Au Chara and Lyra are sisters) who loves astronomy and also knows a lot about aerospace engineering (but without being an expert) decides to build a small ship to travel to the station and look for her missing sister and also help the monsters return to Earth.

Days later...Lyra, after finishing building the ship...gets inside the ship and takes off towards the station...but something unexpected happens...the ship runs out of fuel and crashes into the station.

Lyra gets out of her ship that has been broken after the impact and walks.

She arrives at the Ruins, inside the station.

Routes of this Au:

Pacifist Route:

Lyra explores the station, helping the monsters overcome their emotional challenges and she also befriends the monsters and helps them return to Earth.

Finally, she convinces Asriel to break the barrier after fighting him and after breaking the barrier...Lyra fixes her ship and makes it bigger and the monsters and her get into the ship and return to Earth.

The ending of the Pacifist is the same as in Subtertale.

Neutral Route:

Lyra accidentally kills some monsters, but lets other monsters live.

This route ends with Lyra fixing her ship and returning to Earth leaving the monsters locked in the station forever.

Genocide Route:

Lyra kills all the monsters, uses the power of souls and breaks the barrier by force.

After that...she fixes her ship and returns to Earth.

Station locations:

Furuy Ruins:

It's the same as in Subtertale.

24 monsters and Toriel live here.

(Toriel used to live in Yasashy New Home, meaning in the castle).

Yukhydin Garden:

A large garden of beautiful flowers of many colors.

And this garden is located before reaching the entrance to Yukhydin.

No monsters live here.

Yukhydin:

This place is a large floating city inside a glass dome that shows a spectacular view of space.

35 monsters and the skelebros: Sans, Stelliny and Papyrus live here.

On the outskirts of Yukhydin there are several houses where Undyne, Napstablook, Mettaton and the royal guard live.

Merankorikku Waterfall:

This place is an aquatic biome where there are flowers and aquatic plants.

No monsters live here.

Atsuytochi:

It is the same as in Subtertale.

45 monsters live here.

The Hexyn:

It is the core of the station, where the device that keeps the magic barrier intact and gives electricity to the station is located.

It is a dangerous and highly protected place.

No monsters live here.

Yasashy New Home:

It's the same as in Subtertale and here you can find another garden that is bigger than Yukhydin's garden and this garden only has golden flowers and sky blue flowers.

The only one who lives here is Asgore.

The Barrier:

A luminous and ethereal barrier located outside the castle and surrounding the station, made of magic and star fragments.

Kamydley and Rocío in this Au are the same as Subtertale.

This page features two Undertale AUs, both of which take place in the same universe, just with slightly different circumstances. The descriptions of these AUs are lower down, if you wish to read a brief summary.

Defining Happiness/DH (Summary)

A fancomic series about our protagonists Frisk & Chara and their loved ones attempting to find freedom on the surface, and facing hardships of forming a lasting family. The story is told by Frisk of the future, passing the tale onto their niblings (nieces, nephews, niephews) and little siblings.

Drought & Devastation/Droughtale/DD (Summary)

A fanfiction series about our protagonists Celest & Michael, attempting to journey through a decaying underground, with the soul of Celest's sister (Frisk). While Celest is the older sister in Defining Happiness, in Droughtale Celest is aged down, becoming Frisk's younger sister instead.

When Frisk (age 13) fell into the mountain, they rushed to get through the underground, to return home to their little sister Celest (age 9) and care for her, as the two of them lived with abusive parents. Frisk managed to complete a false pacifist run (leaving Asgore dead and Toriel the queen), intending to gather Celest from their home and return underground, knowing that Toriel would care for the two of them. However, upon arriving home, they failed to sneak inside and take Celest without notice. Their father caught them and began to beat them.

They attempted to reset, but found that their magic was no longer of use. (This is because human magic can only work in the presence of monster magic.) Instead, they were left with brain damage from the beating, and spent the rest of their childhood locked in the house with Celest, tending to her the best they could in their impaired state.

Upon adulthood, the two escaped together. Celest married her husband, Markson, and the two had a child Junebug (aka Frisk Junior.) Frisk passed away not long after, telling Celest to take their soul underground to free monsterkind (while being unaware that the other six souls were fully used up and lost during the fight with Omega Flowey.)

Celest traversed underground, only to find that it was no longer the wonderland Frisk had described to her, but instead a place of ruins, riddled with a magical drought that caused all monsters to have erratic, hallucinatory, and/or violent symptoms, and be thirsty for any magic - or liquid - that they could get their hands on...including the lifeforce of each other.

Through her journey to get back home to her husband and child, she seeks to discover the history of how such a magical place has come to such devastation.

As much as I enjoyed outertale pacifist it feels like to me all characterizations were flattened to make characters less "problematic." Alphys isn't lying to you anymore or hiding secret cosmic horror experiments. Mad Dummy is now reasonable and doesn't attack you if you're nice to the ghost in the ruins equivalent. Monster Kid now doesn't care if you're a human and hops to your defense when you fist meet before you save their life. And now Asgore isn't a child killer. Sure, I find it interesting how they've tried to invert character's dynamics without swapping their roles to make it an AU, but it's resulted in some things that just don't make sense. Like now Toriel is unreasonable for disavowing Asgore's child killing because he didn't actually kill anyone? Even though he explicitly lied to her (and everyone) about that? I like some of the changes they made but others (and especially the Toriel-Asgore inversion) feels off.

FR YEAH THATS WHAT IM SAYINNNNNGGGG. it puts the idea of having a perfect ending for everyone (except toriel ig bc fuck her even though she didn’t even do anything) as a priority before. An actual satisfying narrative and engaging characters?????? And xanam brought up smth that’s been on my mind ever since last night: erasing all the characters mistakes makes the story make zero sense. If all the humans are alive, if alphys never did the determination experiments, how does twinkly, and therefore the pacifist ending, exist???? Correct me if there’s a (good) explanation somewhere else but ughhhhhh this game does not justify its decisions to me ever.

Anyway! This part of th article from the creator really hammers it in

“A route that has flawed characters confront their deep seated issues” where????? What issues??? Toriel is painted as having “isolation” “mess with her worldview” as if she isn’t just going off of the lie that asgore wanted her to believe for some reason. Mettatons issue is now that his family wants “the old him” back or whatever while completely ignoring how vile napstablook implying his ghost form is the “real him” is especially considering the transgender allegory at play. Alphys doesn’t do anything, she’s just a plot device. I could go on….. if you wanna make solely wholesome undertale stuff I have no issue w that! But trying to achieve that by recreating a game that so heavily centres around loss, mistakes, letting go and accepting change just does not work!!!!!

I saw somebody has done Yttd cast in Undertale before but I want to share some ideas about which Yttd character could act as which Undertale character. Of course, there's too many monsters so this is mainly about bosses and minibosses. Also this is long and yttd characters are sometimes repeated as they can serve several roles.

Sara is great for the role of Frisk simply because she has capacity both for sparing and killing. Goddess of Victory or Angel of Death, who will she choose to be? And without a doubt Sara is DETERMINED (Or there's another variant, Kanna, a kind child that will find approach to everybody. However, I don't see anybody trying to kill her there, as well as her even having a thought about killing.)

Kai can be Toriel for several reasons: he is housemaker, he is tied to Sara, so in this AU he can become her guardian for some time. Moreover, Kai has notable bond with Q-Taro and Gashu, both of which could fit Asgore. Imagine him betraying Asunaro and making sure humans survive. Or arguing with Q-Taro about morals.

Depending on the story Shin could match Napstablook when he's being his meek shy self. Just listening to music, not feeling up to anything, creating akward situations and lying on the floor. I can picture him doing it. Additionally, Ranmaru has similar vibe. Not the type to communicate with many, true introvert with deep insecurities... Why not?

Keiji is definitely Sans and I can't see it otherwise (well there could be other options but still I love Keiji as Sans). He is constantly tired, a bit lazy, has a fair share of mysteries, same ambience I would say. Keiji loves pushing responsibility onto Sara due to his trauma and consequent self-hate, Sans does nothing in genocide until the very end wheт majority is dead. Plus who is better to judge our protagonist than a policeman?

Joe is Papyrus, I don't make the rules... Well, Gin could act as Papurus as well, but let's at first talk about Joe. He is nice and funny, he befriends Sara easily, he literally can't kill her. He can have a brotherly relationship with Keiji considering "Mr. Policeman is Joe's dad" theory. The only downside is Papyrus can be killed and I don't see Sara killing her bestie in any way, even for survival. Maybe he is a doll and no longer a human?..

As to Gin, he is better as Monster kid in my mind. Curious, energetic teenager that admires strong, reliable and absolutely cool Reko (who's Undyne). Gin really trusts Sara, he is naїve to the point of believing her even in genocide route. Or maybe an annoing dog is also appliable, as Gin's stims include barking (and his desing, his Meow chan that is allegedly a dog) and the dogsong is perfect theme for Gin.

So, Reko as Undyne. Strong in every sense, fighting for her people's sake, brave, plays piano... Not to mention her relationship with Nao-the-Alphys. The thing is, would Reko kill a human for her people? Maybe not, she is quite kind. Especially if said human is Sara. Unless there is some misunderstanding... (I actually would argue Sara is a better fit for Undyne as she is samurai woman fighter type and she can be colder).

I haven't mention dummies before, but I totally picture Anzu as Temmie. Cute, sweet, funny, just good old Temmie.

I nerly forgot about Mad Dummy! In my book Ranger fits the bill here: an artifitial being that is really jealous of humans and hates them for it. He's sarcastic, extremelly rude, ready to kill. Also imagine that in the Ruins we encounter Dummy of Sei that Kai is keeping due to grief and memories, but now it ends up here as Ranger with consciousness but no soul.

Then we move to Hotland. Nao is a good Alphys in my book: a bit dependent, insecure, still striving to become better. Plus I want to give Mishima a Gaster role, so they share connection. (On the second thought, Safalin would make a compelling Alphys as well: she is actually a scientist, she has far more self-deprication as crying doll, she has many sceletons in the closet with questionable experiments).

There's little info on Gaster as well as on Mishima. Royal scientist whose genuis was unparalleled and that fell in lava (burning again?). Though Meister, whose role is still unclear, may look more like Gaster and have the same air of mystery.

For Muffet there are two worthy candidates: Mai and Maple. Both are acquainted with cuisine, both are extra sweet with their words, I think both can be persuasive about the product (it's Mai's profession, and you can't refuse to drink tea in disscussion room so Maple's capable of it as well). And of course you should never underestimate either of girls.

Mettaton... the star of the show, daring, flashy, attractive... Alice was in the band, his desing (in usual sprites just hair) is quite colorful, not to mention his physique, so why not? That would mean interesting relationship with Reko, who's his neighbor. Plus he could be a doll as Mettaton is an artifitially created robot. Maybe Nao/Safalin/whoever's Alphys created him to help Reko, they reconciled and Alice found his own path.

We are nearing the end. Asgore is morally gray character who killed children, regrets it but ready to repeat the deed for the sake of his country. As was mentioned previosly, either Q-Taro or Gashu could fit his role: Q-Taro because of appearance, kindhearted nature but ability to commit not the most ethical actions. I can also insert joke about killing kids (no matter how you interpret Q-Taro's words in the first main game, part of fandom will bring it up). Gashu had done even more morally reprehensible things for his "community" Asunaro. Plus, Gashu literally had a foster child that died (Sei, Ranger's inspiration).

I didn't mention Flowey because his story blossoms only in the end and depending on the person I replace him with the story becomes drastically different. The first one is Shin because firstly, I am biased toward him, secondly, Asriel essentially is bound to return to his flower form (kind of 0% to be truly happy), thirdly, they were both inicially kinder and due to horrible circumstances became worse. But yet they can become better. Moreover, roses. Maybe Kanna here was killed, and from sheer grief Shin turned into a rose? Alternatively, Ranger matches as well: he can't feel positive emotions just as Flowey doesn't feel them (I don't remember specifics but something along these lines). Plus, Sei was killed being a small kid just like Asriel and he has familial connections to Kai-the-Toriel and Gashu-the-Asgore (this sounds extra weird, nobody here is shipped of course. Just in case).

What about the souls and remaining dead people? I think some of the dead could be these souls: Kurumada as Bravery (he is boxer and this soul has gloves), Megumi or Mr. Policeman as Justice (police is supposed to make sure justice prevails), Hayasaka as Perseverance (he looks a bit nerdy and has glasses), Hinako as... Patience? (the real one), Kanna if dead can definitely be Kindness, Kugie as Integrity? Honestly, we know little about these guys so the arrangement can vary a lot.

Finaly, Chara. Maybe I'll do their character an injustice, but imagine them as Midori. When Frisk Sara is in the end of genocide, she sees Midori, a demon that is resurrected by her cruelty. He enjoyed every bit of it. Plus, then dynamic Chara Midori and Asriel Shin becomes quite intriguing (and messed up). Or maybe Kanna could be Chara as well, a kid that met a friend (or foster brother. Oh even a real one) in the underground and then died.

Ohoho I actually had a few characters in mind I wanted to name drop a while ago~

Dogfellow: Dogfellow, a beagle like dog monster from lustfell, is a very successful investor. His main focus is businesses catering to canine type monsters and other furry monster subspecies, and ice cream businesses for some reason. He doesn’t even like ice cream, but hey it sells! Like many other lustfell big wigs, he has multiple mates, four to be exact, and has five children with them all. He fathered each child, something he loves to brag about. Dogfellow considers Marcelo goldenfoot his greatest enemy after the bunny dared to insinuate that his bunny daughter was cuter than Dogfellows German Shepard dog daughter. He’s worth nearly 200 million G

Bea Elvis: bea is a simply adorable whimsum from dancetale. She’s got an incredible movement to her, a very graceful dancer, and a brilliant mind. Bea invented a type of cgi that can mimic some of the more serpentine or tentacle like monsters movements better than other programs can. She patented her code and sold it off for a hefty profit and nowadays spends her time appearing on game shows for fun. She’s worth 4 million G. She’s also secretly married to napstablook

Mauve chiffons: mauve is a spunky shrew mouseling from farmswap who made her fortune selling insurance to farmers that covers bad crop years and broken equipment. She’s a wonderful example of simple honest work. Just a stand up gal. And her business employs many. She’s worth about 12 million G. Mauve has no relation to the farmswap boys, but does love their families beer.

Jonny Swartz: Jonny is a crocodile monster from underfell, and is a classic redemption story. Having been pardoned from a life sentence for theft and attempted murder in underfell after the crash, Jonny decided he was going to do everything he can to take advantage of this clean slate. So he made the AEP (apprenticeship employment placement), a company designed to take your application and find any available jobs or apprenticeships near you for the job you want. And they don’t accept payment until you get your first paycheck. There wasn’t anything like this in ebott until Jonny started it. Anyways he’s worth about 10 million G (but that might go down soon since he got caught in another murder)

Juliet mars: she’s a taller than average air elemental from outertale. Before the crash, she developed a special type of greenhouse that grew the few crops they had in space even better than the natural elements could. Her design now has been converted into what ebott uses for their AC and heating systems in buildings all over as it’s low cost to make and saves power. She was also a mentor to Pluto when he was still and apprentice back in their old au. He refers to her as aunty mars. Juliet is worth about 45 million G.

By procrastinating working on one of my Undertale AUs, I have created some refs for another! Specifically, the lost soul one. Not sure what to name it yet, but still!

I have refs for Papyrus and Frisk made!

Refs and lore under cut since it’s quite long.

The first ref I made was for Papyrus, since he was the first one I thought of for this AU.

The lost souls have the iconic lost soul heads, but are also mostly devoid of colour. Lore wise, it’s kind of like… your colours are a part of your soul? And the longer your soul is lost, the more your colours fade.

Papyrus would wander around Snowdin, patrolling and looking for monsters who aren’t lost souls, and humans. He would feel as though he’s missing something whenever he sees the abandoned sentry stations or the mostly collapsed snowmen. The royal guard dogs would report to him, and he would report to Undyne.

If he was ever freed from the lost soul state, he would feel immensely guilty. It was on his words that everyone appeared to the Throne Room, where they got their souls stolen. He would accompany the human throughout their journey in an attempt to right his wrongs.

Next up, Frisk. They fell into the Ruins, the one place where the monsters haven’t become lost souls. Toriel and the Ruins monsters guide them to Home. Frisk stays for a while, but eventually they decide to leave. Toriel gives Frisk part of her old robe to show that Frisk is under her protection when they first fell. Once Frisk leaves the Ruins, Napstablook would keep an eye on them and report back to the monsters in the Ruins on how Frisk is doing. The monsters in the Ruins are trapped there, as they have used their own magic to create a kind of barrier like seal to prevent Flowey or the lost souls from coming in.

Frisk would be unable to save, but instead use the save points to create a SAVE button during fights. Once they reach a save point, their determination gets stronger and they are able to SAVE more monsters.

This would be what a lost soul’s soul would look like. The lost soul would have some small glitches, to combat the memories that have been concealed or hidden. The vines would have been added by Flowey, so he would always be able to control the lost souls. Additionally, it’s an easy method of locating them. He can sense where all of his vines are.

Finishing this off with some art I did of Papyrus in this AU! I actually did this before my first post about this AU, and it’s what gave me the motivation to write/draw more about it!

In this au The save star started to Glitch out. Because of that every time frisk reset whatever they did in their last run can affect the next. Anything can happen but the thing is they still don't remember what happened still but for some reason they all have mixed feelings about the human. causing the battles and interactions to be a bit odd. Some fights are harder and they actually try to kill them well, some still fight but are a little more scared to and can especially give up in battle. They have scars that appeared on them out of no where to them but it's a reminder of genocide route some feel sadness from it or anger. They can gain back the memories from all The runs but Frisk/Chara are the only one that can give it to them the only way is to remind Them or just tell them everything and hope that sparks a memory in them. Doing that can Change the view of them or change how they act to everyone.

Remember how I said anything they did last run can affect them next well. They could also at some point have the monster be close to becoming an au that already exists. Like at some point Frisk And Chara got sans to become killer sans but in this one They were just testing to see if they could do it And it was successful but knowing that knowledge now that they could make their au become close already existing au is crazy but they ended up resetting, and that's why he has black stuff coming out his eyes.

At some point in the au, both Frisk and Chara decided to stop resetting. But the thing is the only people they told the truth of what they were doing was all of the mains like. Toriel,Undyne,Asriel/Flowey,Mettaton,Alphys ,Asgore, Sans, and Papyrus now knowing what they did, and gaining back some of their memories changed how they see them. Undyne and Papyrus weren't as happy, but unlike Undyne Papyrus was still nice to believe they would change. Asgore and Toriel were shocked and had mixed feelings, but they still had the parenting love to still stay with them. Alphys Was a bit scared and worried that, despite knowing they wanted to change, she took extra measures in case they go back on their promise. Well, Sans had a lot of mixed feelings, and knowing they used him to become killer sans and made his brother go mad to the point of him killing everyone just didn't feel right to trust them. Him and Undyne were the hardest to gain trust from them. but Mettato would sometimes jump at any time they talked to him but would try to hide it. Asriel was still not happy about it but was happy to be with Chara again. Well, Flowey was just the same old Flowey but stuck in a body with Asriel. Yes, both Asriel and Flowey share a body. Same with Frisk and Chara, they are able to switch from time to time. After all that, Asgore decided not to leave the underground. Instead, they lived in the underground for the rest of their lives.
