as vague as it was, i think zun had some idea of yukari at the time of her introduction, as seen with her concern over the barrier and the wellbeing of gensokyo. this would eventually evolve into the gensokyo sages and include kasen and okina, though even among them yukari remains the most noteworthy. but i'm not here to talk about that, i'm here to talk about outfits

her original appearance in PCB had yukari wearing a purple dress, in reference to her name most likely, nothing fancy. but it's interesting to me how zun immediately put that aside to go with the pale dress and tabard, similar to her shikigami Ran, for the following games IaMP and IN

it definitely gives her a more distinct look from any other character, although being the setting that Touhou is, it's kinda weird to me for someone to be wearing similar clothes as their subordinate. i might be missing the mark on that one though. thing is we would see the purple dress, or a variation of it, on multiple occasions after IN. for a while it seemed like zun was going back to that design actually, only broken up by SWR because, going on a limb here, they probably didn't wanna re-do the art and spritework. even in WaHH where the second sage kasen is introduced, yukari is seen with a variation of her og dress.

what's the meaning of all this then? i don't know. the wiki states that the purple dress is yukari's casual wear while the tabard is her work attire, with a nice "citation needed" next to it. though it sounds believable enough i guess, every time yukari's seen with the tabard on she's actively participating in an incident. it makes sense that on those occasions where she's actually showing herself, she would want to present and fully put on display who she really is. even though no one really associates the look with the sages or anything afaik, that's something only we know

so the tabard look started as "this is what ran wears", evolved to "this is what yukari and her shikigami wear", and finally "this is what the sages of gensokyo and everyone related wears", as kasen and okina's outfits share that element (and later, chen as well). except yukari, yukari can dress up like a grandma when she wants to because she's a special girl

y'all I was going to make SUCH a post about how the Ashes to Ashes + Dust to Dust = Soothe the Dead EGO recipe is unbelievably Ryōshū-coded and then they added the fucking papa bongy cookbook to the recipe

Dust to Dust is pretty easy to interpret as someone on their knees, surrounded by smoke, but Ashes to Ashes is a little more difficult to read. It looks like it could be a wonky face going >:) which is what I thought it was for months but it is also someone on their knees, cradling something

with a line extending up from the back of the neck area, perhaps implying a noose?

And then there's Soothe the Dead, which is a half burned Okina Noh mask. I unfortunately don't know a lot about Okina or Noh but I do know that this specific mask is one of the "old man" masks.

Okay let's talk about Hell Screen!

Yoshihide (who Ryōshū is based on) was an old painter who was ordered to paint a large screen depicting the Buddhist hell. Unfortunately he can't paint something without having seen it so he tortures his apprentices a bunch and finally for the centerpiece he tells his lord that he needs to see a maiden burn in a carriage. The lord burns... Yoshihide's daughter! Yoshihide finishes the painting and then kills himself out of grief and regret, specifically by the way of hanging.

And then the real kicker is that Hell Screen ends with the narrator saying Yoshihide's body was buried in the ruins of his house and that over the years, anything marking who he was ended up eroded by wind and rain and overgrowing plants. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

You could maybe say something about how Dust to Dust appears to be depicting the death of Yuzuki (Yoshihide's daughter) and that Ashes to Ashes depicts the death of Yoshihide but it's not really that clear- it is a little strange for abnormality gifts to parallel one specific sinner's story to that extent. Either way Rising Ashes abnormality EGO coming with Canto IX trust me

LONG. mohg lord of blood ramble im sory

mohg [PROBABLY] made the bloody fingers AFTER the nobles and purebloods based off ansbach's existence && as well the fact the bloody finger seem almost sporadic in movement and placement AS WELLL as the fact that their clothing are somewhat informal and almost shabby looking. okina's mask is ...not fit for a elegant lavish coming dynasty like mohg's. or most of the other bloody fingers. the way ansbach describes him as compared to how others and the game describe as a and i qoute ""raving madman"" makes me believe that ansbach was actually at least a little brainwashed or at the very least biased. i see people thinking that mohg was once ... "well put" as compared to his assuringly by the descriptions and themes; deluded and cruel. gideon refers to his title as the ""SO CALLED"" ""lord of blood."" he doesnt even take him seriously. fucking. GIDEON. doesnt take him seriously. Think About that. the dead nobles bodies laying around as well the literal gross blood cave a merchant is imprisoned in makes me highly believe that mohg did become highly crazed in trying to bring about his dynasty considering how everything seems so...sporadic? all over the place? the blood pools are also fresh which is worth noting.

to me i think that miquella's charm didn't change him. it PACIFYS. his followers who are otherwise aggressive and once uncharmed fight eachother. think about that. PACIFYS. this is mohg in his pacified state, yet he's still running around (pressumbly) killing his own followers. he is cruel whether he realises it or not. hes also; clearly, not doing SHIT around here. the ""mohgwyn palace"" is VERY messy. birds and albanurics doing nothing but bathing in blood. blind prayers in front of mohg's ... elevator...thing. he's blindly shedding blood in hope of miquella being a god in order to truly bring about his dynasty as a real force. he is genuinely convinced of this hence why varre is very active despite there not being many tarnished around as the narrative [apparently] prescribes.

one thing worth mentioning about the dynasty ive always talked about that is the weird desperate love in the dynasty. varre talks about it too. love. you have mohg's (albeit forced) love of miquella; his love for his followers (he gives his own blood to them as well as doing whole ass rituals). love. do they even love him back. i do think this is more of a massive cope on mohg's end. he was never loved and never had a family not including morgott who is more of a unhealthy trauma bond in my eyes — and i feel like he's just using his "love" aspect as a way to convince people to both join his dynasty and so he can feel something. he knows people are just as yearnful for love as he probably is, so i could see this as manipulation as much as i could see as a genuine thing and i think its a mix of both.

a dynasty also needs heirs, and i wonder if mohg had planned to either have a child with his consort somehow OR if all his followers who have his blood count as his children since they now officially have his blood, as varre literally forces his blood under your nails in order to join. so he has a shit ton of heirs ready; his dynasty may never die.

EDIT: also wanted to mention that mohg's dynasty presents as very bombastic and fancy™️ which makes the whole degrade to a very messy palace even more out of character/questionable. as well it could be mohg's desire to not be seen as filthy bc hes a omen. food for thought

The primary difference between gods and youkai in Touhou is of course that gods inspire awe rather than disgust. I've discussed this before.

Now, the differences between yuurei and youkai might be a little more difficult to pick up on, especially when a lot of them are spawned from similar circumstances (rejection, betrayal, othering.) Yuurei of course die from those circumstances while youkai don't really. But much more importantly, in terms of Touhou, yuurei were hurt, and remain hurt. Their existences are quintessentially defined by their suffering and regret; vengeful spirits are defined by unending anger, funayuurei by their own drowning, common yuurei are simply humans who weren't buried properly and thus cannot pass on. They both suffer and cause suffering.

Youkai, meanwhile, are beings that were initially defined by rejection. This may have caused them to hate and resent humanity at first, but they're not supposed to do that (see Eiki's lecture to Medicine); a youkai cannot survive off of that sort of notion. Youkai are nigh-universally (barring some very unwell- and I do mean physically unwell here- exceptions) happy with their current situations. They exist to cause others to feel fear, rather than feeling it themselves. They do not attack humans because of a desire for vengeance. They attack humans because they enjoy it; because they are defined as beings by enjoying the exercise of their own power, because they pass their curses onto others instead of being cursed themselves.

I think that this a key insight to understanding a fairly large number of youkai. In particular, some of the underground ones; Parsee enjoys being able to inflict jealousy even though she's often jealous herself, and Satori loves the ability to read minds even though she's hated for it. The reason that Koishi closed off her heart was because of rejection from other youkai, not from humans!

It's also key, though, to understanding the youkai that interface with the outside world. Mamizou has every right to look at humans with hatred and allow her life to be defined by it; they destroyed her home while she was there, they terrorized her into Gensoukyou. And yet she loves hanging around with them in Gensoukyou, even though she secretly dreams about how the humans of the outside world scare her. She loves exercising her superiority over them, too: "Ho ho ho!" and all that.

Yukari is similar; though she has plenty of reason to despise humanity, she... doesn't.

She resents their abandonment of things they don't need, certainly, and plots to take it all back. But she doesn't hate them. They're her funny, dear, pathetic creatures.

As with Mamizou, her relationship to humans is simply one of predation and exploitation. A youkai who misses the noise of the city. A youkai who adores violence, even when she has nothing to prove; there's little reason to talk how much she loves the scent of death in front of Okina (who can always tell if she's lying) and Sumireko (who would surely just think it was cool, rather than fearing her like she'd want) if she intends to play a role.

If anything, she hides that violent side around humans she needs to trust her. Compare her initial conversation with Reimu to those she has with Marisa and Sakuya; only when talking to the shrine maiden, who she needs to not see her as a threat, does she not bring up murder.

...Of course, I'm getting away from myself a bit. But Yukari ultimately sees humans as lesser than she is. They are not something to "take revenge on", because there's no reason to take revenge on something that gave you the greatest gift of your existence. (Other youkai we get the internality of seem to see them similarly) They are something to take advantage of to make her own life better. If it happens in a way that's ironic considering what happened to her, well, all the better; but that isn't what defines her. What defines all youkai is that they hunt humans. Nothing more, and nothing less. Without that, they would not be youkai.

Contrast Mima; though she's less developed than our dear current vengeful spirit, her raison d'etre is "to take revenge on the entire human race". Until she has accomplished that, she cannot rest; this is quite literally preventing her from dying, and once she achieves it, she will be at peace. She needs to do this; it is the very purpose for which she was reborn. What defines vengeful spirits is their desire for revenge. Nothing more, and nothing less. Without that, they would not be vengeful spirits.

So.

Youkai are differentiated from vengeful spirits in that they exist to prey on humans, rather than to take revenge on humans. They do this because they pass on curses to others rather than be cursed themselves. The method of choice for youkai barring those with more spiritual requirements for sustenance is to kill and eat humans; those with more spiritual requirements still often kill humans (and do eat some part of the human; whether it be magical power, fear, or jealousy.) They are defined by consumption and exploitation; they have become the powerful, rather than the powerless, and enjoy this ability to exploit. Youkai who do not enjoy this kill themselves.

Yukari is a youkai; one whose interface with the world is quite physical. Just look at her. She is made of eyes and hands. Therefore, the method she utilizes for exploitation and consumption must thematically be quite physical as well. She happily sees herself as a youkai of this nature, too.

For all of the above reasons, it's completely thematically incoherent for Yukari Yakumo to not kill and eat humans with enthusiasm.

i hope the next series of thorough discussion won't be much for you .. because this is something i wanted to thoroughly talk about before but i've been lacking a lot of time for myself lately ;; but here i am now ~

but, without further ado, let's bring our tea, sit down, and start yapping this tea party away ( ੭ ˙ ᗜ ˙ )੭

your vision of kuni playing on those three instruments is something i share the same sentiment towards as well~ but, since we are looking in a more divided direction in a sense — i have cooked and will provide.

kuronushi is a man whose more intuned with his voice and handicraft more than any other poet in inazuma's lands. it is no different for his unfathomable skill in singing, anyone is bound to be swoon from hearing that silky smooth voice of his. 'nushi is also a man who likes to experience anything he deems of interest to him, and that was the case when he picked up the tonkori for the first time. i feel like a lot of 'nushi lovers associate him with the shamisen, and i can definitely see why, but in my eyes; he finds himself more at harmony when putting his voice to use. hence the tonkori is likely the instrument he has on his person often while the shamisen is more present at aoi no okina and suiko's theaters. ( a stark sound goes well with an angelic voice, no? )

kabukimono is more of a dancer than someone who excels at music play... but he underestimates how much of a fast learner he is sometimes. all it took was a walk near tatarasuna village to hear one of the elderly play on the koto; and his vacant ribcage was quickly showered with warmth at the sound of it. it simply sounded melodic~ so he stuck around with the elderly women, asking a curious question after another and taking a few lessons from her until eventually, every sunset, all the kids could hear is kabukimono's tunes on the koto rather than being able to play with him like they usually do.

the balladeer barely has the time to indulge in such things. but and off writer mode for a little here — his hat has two bachi attached to each red rope of his hat !! a primary component of playing the shamisen. circling back... he definitely found a bit of time after being recruited into the fatui, not having much to do other than command ‘brainless subordinates’ and some boring paperwork. a harbinger's time, especially of his status, is quite precious. why let it go to waste? so interestingly, while quietly browsing shops in snezhnaya's town from the sidelines, he found an inazuman who didn't want their shamisen anymore. somehow, in someway, and definitely not because he wanted to try the instrument for himself after so long, that person's shamisen was now in his possession. he'd grown quite used to playing the instrument by himself to pass time... put that in quotations.

with those out of the way .. let's get to some additional concepts!

shogun kuni is usually if not always alone. tenshukaku is quiet, unbearably so most of the time, as whenever he closes his eyes and attempts to meditate the free time away; all he could see is makoto's memories from the gnosis. all that resounds in his ears is ei's distant wishes for eternal stasis for this land. an old friend of his however finally made its visit back to his life, the shakuhachi katsuragi gave him as a little gift. the sight of this thing often makes him feel all the more somber, but there's never been anything more delightful to occupy this deafening silence. all by himself in his room, or atop tenshukaku, with only bittersweet tunes accompanying him.

surprise concept ( left blank for now, you'll see who it is in a later fic~ ) he may appear frail in contrast to his younger sister, but do not let his delicate face fool you. for kunikuzushi has a heart of steel and a skill like no other with the taiko. he rarely plays the instrument, only there for important occasions, but his position doesn't allow him to mingle with the remainder of those musically driven souls. but who is he to listen? if he wanted to, he would gladly tag along just to piss off the shogun. but... he has other matters to tend to.

mera. hunter kuni ( old fontaine + 60's setting ) for someone who's been integrated into the illustrious lands of fontaine long ago by now, even after casting his identity aside, his interest for the kokyu never dulled. making his face known throughout fontaine for being able to offer something new to an otherwise classy and quite a dull setting as he so describes it. kids tend to approach him, blissfully unaware that behind the identity of ‘nomad’, a well liked gentlemen with... an interesting way of words, is someone who isn't who they think he is. and that instrument is one of the many scars he carries from his past life.

why wasn't the wanderer included? that's because i envision that, as he is taking on and forging his own identity, he doesn't intrest himself with inazuman instruments as much. not to stray further from his past, but because he'd grown a bit of a liking to sumeru's traditional instruments more. though, as a vahumana scholar and all, as well as a wanderer, he'd rather indulge himself in the sweet taste of freedom for a bit longer. such a thing as investing in something new can wait for a later time.

Q: I'm curious how you develop characters as a Warframe team. I've noticed a lot of references to mythology. A: it's a library of devs that have passions. The team is just really diverse and loves really cool shit. The amount of inspiration we get to name things thematically, we have touched lore I didn't know existed. When it comes to Warframes, we're still looking at old Keith Thompson drawings… he's built different.

Q: I'm sorry to take you back in the morgue. Void keys. Will there be a return to the old void and endless missions? A: We're not in the morgue here, we're in ICU. Visiting hours are open. I loved the old voidkey system. We did a soft tease with Dagath keys, it had wins and losses… There were user experience problems. But it's not totally dead. The omnia fissures are kind of that vibe. You can bring any relic to an omnia fissure and just haul ass.

Q: Can we get a toggle for Protea's visor? A: The rigging artist working on it talked about it. Maybe. You're right, it would be nice.

Q: Fashion frame question. Have you considered a DE color palette, like, Megan's greatest hits? A: That sounds like a great idea :) We're doing it.

Q: Are we ever going to see new necramechs? A: I hate saying probably not. No new ones in 1999 at least. We're touching up the ones we have before we go to the morgue, and grab a skull, to make a a new one. Sorry

Q: if you have Drifter selected, can you use drifter melee? A: We thought it was important to keep drifter melee in duviri, but… why not? We could try. Drifters can't mod though. It's not impossible, but it'd take some time.

Q: Warframe being predominantly PVE, has there been talk of collaboration among clans? A: I implied it with the other question, but a social benefit would be great. I'd love to see you make friends with other clans

Prime Report for November 2024

XAKU PRIME TIME BABY WOOO

Hello. I have finally crawled out of The Pit and have managed to exist again. We are now living in the future that is Xaku, and what a brilliant future it is with 1999 just about the corner.

Now with our skin clear, crops watered, and the neighborhood skeleton spookin' it up, let's put our spectacles on and see what's ahead.

Prime Access

Xaku Prime was released into Prime Access on Nov 13th, accompanied by Trumna Prime and Quassus Prime. They should be hanging out there until at least the middle of February, so likely we'll get some info about the next prime after the new year.

This also put Baruuk Prime into the vault with the dethroning of Sevagoth Prime, meaning that relics containing Baruuk Prime, Cobra & Crane Prime, and Afuris Prime parts are currently unavailable.

Let's look at the future rotation schedules to guess what to expect next. It pays not to be caught off guard.

First, for context, let's remember what's happened already.

Recent Primes:

I was upset at first at DE breaking their previously established pattern, and that does make the next prime hard to predict until we understand if they intend to return to the form of female-female-male-male etc, or if they've decided to take on a different pattern. This year of primes will be a bit of wild guessing, but hopefully by the end of next year we'll be understanding the new situation.

Next Likely Primed Warframes (By release date):

Lavos Yareli Caliban Gyre Styanax

We have a fairly even split of female and male warframes coming up in the order, so it will be interesting to see what pattern they make out of it. I personally hope that both Lavos and Yareli get their days in the spotlight sooner rather than later.

As for vaultings, now that Baruuk Prime and his weapons have gone, let's look at who's next on the chopping block.

Vaulting Order:

So, plan accordingly, as Hildryn Prime is likely going away in mid to late February.

Prime Resurgence

Now, let's talk different rotations.

Currently available are Garuda Prime and Khora Prime, with Nagantaka Prime, Corvas Prime, Hystrix Prime, and Dual Keres Prime. BUT they are only available until Nov 21st at about 2pm ET. At that time they will leave, so you only have 5 days to get your relics!

They will be replaced by Ivara Prime (with Baza Prime and Aksomati Prime) and Oberon Prime (with Silva & Aegis Prime and Sybaris Prime). They are likely to stick around until about Dec 19th and leave either just before or just after Christmas.

This is the point where I was going to talk about Ember Prime and Rhino Prime, but unfortunately it looks like they both went back to the vault on Oct 24th. They both stayed out for about three months, so I guess that's something we'll need to expect for the future heirloom releases instead of having them for half a year. The 'limited time' this time was truly limited. Next time I will have to make a more concerted effort to escape The Pit within a reasonable time frame.

So, let's look at the Prime Resurgence schedule this year, and see who we can expect coming up. At the beginning of the year there was a quick-fire resurgence event, so we'll include that and then the other rotations throughout the year.

This year featured two long requested returns in Titania and Ember, with many other warframes returning from long droughts. In this calendar year we didn't see Frost Prime or Mag Prime, though they were available for four months last year in their heirloom event so it isn't that surprising. I believe the frame with the longest unvaulting drought now should be Nidus Prime, who seemingly hasn't been in any prime resurgence events at all yet. Other than that from what I can tell the only other primes not included are the two most newly vaulted ones, Revenant Prime and Baruuk Prime. Perhaps we will see Nidus and Revenant emerge some time early next year.

If you think I'm missing anyone, please let me know so we can figure out who to expect next year. It looks like instead of one month rotations they are in rotations of exactly 28 days, with the rotation switching over on thursday.

I think I've accomplished most of what I wanted today. If they announce another event of some type, I'll be back here to let you know. For now I believe we should brace for the coming of the storm, and shortly after it, the new year to ring in a hopeful Y2K.

she usually writes down these prophecies, so that she can keep track of them. her favorite ones (such as happy ones or ones involving herself) are used as decoration on her clothing. she sometimes goes through periods where she gets an overwhelming amount of visions of the future, which stresses her out immensely. it's meant to parallel anxiety and obsessive thoughts, you see. as when I struggled with those, I would often treat it as a vision of the future from a different timeliness.

in gensokyo, crystal lives a usually quiet life. she lives somewhere on youkai mountain. she has varying relationships with different characters. for example, she has a mentor-like relationship with keine, who helps crystal when she gets overwhelmed with prophecies and helps her get a hold of them, and uses the future to see how it will affect the history of the human village. hmm...I should draw human disguise crystal...

also, sometimes okina appears in crystals dreams. she doesn't know what this means.

another notable relationship she has is with the taoists. basically, she became enchanted by what miko was saying one day in the human village, and came to check taoism out. at first, she was doubted for being a youkai, but she proved herself in being loyal and wanting to learn. this leads to....

yup, my shameless self ship. seiga x crystal.... I'm still not sure how their relationship would get started or work out, but I think it starts with seigas fascination with how crystal escaped death. i feel like crystal kind of becomes yoshika 2 with how seiga finds her interesting enough to stick around her. of course, crystal is wooed by this pretty lady very much, even despite her ways... this ship is called wickedfortune by the way.

I imagine that they originally met due to circumstances in the dream world, due to miyagi being able to travel there, eventually meeting physically. the two of them get along greatly and have a more balanced relationship. they are two sillies in love.

summary of the p4g anime audio drama, a sense of gratitude

I remembered I had written a kinda half-assed summary of this audio drama for the indie wiki. Here is a fixed up version of the half-assed summary, but with more in-depth words about Adachi's scene lol.

If you're unfamiliar with audio dramas, they're like sound-only "episodes" with the voice actors. This one was made for the Golden anime and came with the Limited Edition of Volume 2.

Chronologically, the audio drama takes place after the school camping trip and later after Rise's rescue. This places it between episodes 2 and 3 of the anime.

After being traumatized by Chie and Yukiko's curry—Mystery Food X—during the school camping trip, Yosuke begs Yu to make curry so they can mentally recover. Yu agrees to make homemade curry for a curry party after he grows vegetables at the Dojima house. He asks his friends what they use a secret ingredient in their curry to give it a little something extra to get an idea about what to put in his.

Dojima bribes Adachi with a free meal to help plant vegetables in the garden outside the Dojima house. Dojima asks Adachi if he is finished setting up his part of the garden. Adachi responds that he is, and whines about having to help with the garden in exchange for a meal. Dojima remarks that only those who work get to eat. Adachi complains again, saying they've done enough work for today. Yu laughs, thanks Adachi for his help, and says he plans on giving Adachi some of the vegetables after they have grown. Adachi asks what kind of vegetables they're growing in a particular plot, and is surprised when Yu says they're growing cabbages. Yu is also surprised because he thought Adachi likes cabbage. Adachi explains that the garden plots look too narrow for cabbages to grow in. This comment irritates Dojima, who sarcastically apologizes to him for the cabbage plots being too narrow (while punching him).

Yu asks Adachi the same question he asked his friends - what secret ingredient does he use in curry? Adachi is confused by the question, and Yu explains that he plans on making his friends curry with the vegetables from the garden. Adachi is surprised he can cook, and answers that he does not add anything. Yu asks if he ever makes his own curry, and Adachi replies that he does not since you can get good curry that comes packed in retort pouches. When he feels like being fancy, he eats it with karaage. Adachi suddenly gets a craving for curry as its been a while since he had it, but Nanako mentions they are already planning on going to Chinese Diner Aiya that day. He blames this sudden craving on Yu. Yu offers to give him some curry when he makes it for everyone else, but Adachi says he'd prefer it be from a girl. While Nanako waters the garden, Adachi talks to Yu about how he seems to have so many hobbies and how he must be using up all of his pocket money, especially now that he has a scooter too.

This conversation leads to Yu getting a part-time job washing dishes at Shiroku Pub. Shiroku feeds him a good plate of curry after one of his shifts, but she refuses to tell him her secret ingredient even after he tells her about the camping trip because she would make more money if his friends came and ate her curry instead to cure their trauma. Yu keeps trying to recreate Shiroku's, but can never quite find the right secret ingredient that gives it the right flavor.

Two months later, Rise has joined the team, Teddie has a human body, and Yu still has not figured out Shiroku's secret ingredient. The group goes to Okina to watch a martial arts movie called "Return of the Dragon" then Rise insists they visit Chagall for coffee. Yosuke asks about how the garden is coming along. Internally, Yu realizes he needs to hurry up and figure out a secret ingredient before the end of summer when the vegetables finish growing. He asks Rise about what kind of secret ingredient her family uses, which turns out to be soy milk. Mumon brings their coffee, warning them that they'll get burned if they underestimate it. Everyone except Marie, who drank it black, reacts to the bitter taste and starts talking in nonsense before passing out and waking up later when it's night time. Yu wearily returns home with a bag of Chagall coffee.

One day after school, when a heavy storm threatens the garden, the Investigation Team bands together to save the vegetables by setting up protective storm nets. Only a few vegetables fall off and they aren't very damaged, so Yu decides to cook with them. Yosuke suggests they use them to have a curry party that same night. Yu still hasn't figured out what Shiroku's secret ingredient is, but he agrees anyway, and calls Marie over. While helping in the kitchen, Marie mistakenly adds some of the coffee from Chagall instead of Dojima's coffee to the curry. Yu freaks out at first, but thinks it'll be okay since it was only a little scoop. When he taste tests it, he realizes that Chagall's coffee is Shiroku's secret ingredient, and they were able to accidentally recreate hers.

Meanwhile, Nanako makes a paper flower at school and is told by her teacher to give it to her mother for Mother's Day, but she isn't sure what to do since her mother is dead. Yu suggests she put it on the family altar, and Nanako does so in hopes it reaches her mother in heaven. When Father's Day comes up, both Yu and Nanako give Dojima gifts. Nanako later realizes that she wants to show her appreciation for Yu as well, and asks Marie when "Big Brother's Day" is. Marie, who is unused to these traditions, suggests that what matters isn't the day, but just showing your thanks to that particular person.
