Just ended up with the weirdest and most random ship I have ever had: Arkady Trubetskoy from the Silver Skates and Lawrence of Arabia??

Basically Arkady is a bisexual with internalized homophobia and sadistic tendencies. He tries to hit on Alexey Tarasov, who rejects him. But Alexey introduces Arkady to Lawrence, a supressed queer masochist, who is friends with Oleg Volkov (they served together during WW1).

Arkady is an extremely shitty person tho, the villain in my fic. He becomes antisemitic and homophobic out of spite, after Alisa breaks up with him to date Vera Urusova. He joins the Black Hundreds (the Okhrana had basically the same values tbh, and he was canonically a captain in Okhrana. Not sure why they would go after pickpockets instead of revolutionaries, though.)

Literally all of these were claimed in The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, an antisemitic hoax used by the Okhrana to justify violence against Russian Jews. It was used by Nazi Germany to justify the Holocaust, and today it still serves as the blueprint for most conspiracy theories - even if modern conspiracy theorists try to hide it, downplay it, or rationalize it with another, equally absurd conspiracy theory.

they would have preferred to leave house okhrana entirely but then house okhrana would have greater power over them, so Korin became the House Okhrana member of the Akiridion council to expand his reach and better protect Cara from the abusive training traditions of his family

had they survived the house okhrana massacre they'd have been relieved the others were all gone, and as it is you better bet they're rubbing cara's freedom in their relatives' faces in the afterlife

Hi Duchess, I have a few questions regarding a story set in 1840-1900 Russia that i hope you can help with.

In my story, the princess of a slightly fictionalized version of the Russian Empire is found drowned in the palace lake. It looks like an accident and the Emperor and Empress believe it to be, but the Crown prince is suspicious. Who would investigate this death without the public and nobility knowing? And would it be plausible for a medium to be called in along with a private investigator? What is the usual circle of suspects when a royal is murdered? Would it be possible for the princess' fiancee (a duke),who killed her, to hide his involvement and go under the inversigator's radar?

[T]he chief difference between a despotic and a totalitarian secret police is that the latter […] does not use the old method of secret services, the method of provocation. At the beginning of 1908, Michael began a friendship with Natalia Sergeyevna Wulfert, the wife of a fellow officer; she was previously divorced and had a young daughter by her first husband. Their relationship deepened, and by the summer of the following year, they were lovers. By that winter, Natalia was separated from her husband and living in an apartment in Moscow paid for by Michael. When the Tsar became aware of the situation, he had his brother transferred to the Chernigov Hussars at Orel, but Michael traveled from Orel to Moscow several times a month to visit Natalia. She gave birth to their son in July of 1910. (As this occurred - before - her divorce from Wulfert, the eventual divorce decree was back-dated.) The baby George - named after Michael's dead brother - was given the surname "Brasov" derived from the name of Michael's estate Brasovo, in acknowledgement of his paternity. The following year the Tsar permitted Natalia to move to Brasovo, granting her the surname "Brasova".

In September, the couple again went abroad, again followed by the Okhrana. While in Berlin, they announced that they would drive to Cannes. But, eluding the secret police, they made a diversion to Vienna, where they were secretly married in the Serbian Orthodox Church, on October 16th. A few days later, they arrived at Cannes, where they were joined by the two children. Two weeks after the wedding, Michael wrote to his mother and brother to inform them; they were, not surprisingly, horrified and angry. The Tsar was particularly upset as his son was in the midst of his most serious haemophiliac episode, and Michael had explained that it was just that dire situation that had spurred his decision to marry: his actions would remove him from the succession and, should the young Tsarevich die, he couldn't be separated from Natalia and their child. In a series of decrees between December and January 1913, Nicholas relieved Michael of his command, banished him from Russia, froze all his assets there, and seized control of his estates. Michael and Natalia - who would not be styled Grand Duchess, but called Madame or Countess Brasova - lived in French and Swiss hotels for the next six months. They were visited by sympathetic friends and relatives, including his sister Xenia. In July they met the Dowager Empress in London; according to the Grand Duchess Xenia's diary, her mother told Natalia "a few home truths". Not long after, Michael took a one-year lease on Knebworth House, a furnished and staffed estate twenty miles north of London. Michael's finances were nonetheless uncertain since he had to rely on funds released at the Tsar's command, as his brother still controlled all his estates and assets.

Today I offer design notes about cara:

something i noticed about the Akiridion aesthetic is that it's very clean and symmetrical (especially their silhouettes), and in particular their jumpsuits, armor, and hairstyles are usually either balanced on both sides or straight-up symmetrical. Given the fact symmetry/even patterns and shapes is easier for computers to deal with/generate cleanly, and they're technologically inclined (and animation is hard), this being the way the culture's style has ended up over time makes sense. As such, Krel, Varvatos, King Fialkov, and Queen Coranda have symmetrical silhouettes, and Aja and Zadra have basically-symmetrical or balanced silhouettes. Krel and Aja even have that balanced design in their human forms.

So because of that, in Cara's youth she follows that symmetry rule. In her Akiridion form she has peculiarly stringy hair, in strands like a human's, because she's a Summoner and it passively saves her energy for her ability to summon small weapons and tools on the undersides of her wrists. As a child, she styles her hair tucked straight back, clean, symmetrical, and almost military. In her human form, her hair is middle-parted, like Aja's and Krel's. As she gets older, she starts parting her hair to the left and, in Akiridion form, has essentially long curtain bangs on the right side, symbolizing how she's slowly lost touch with Akiridion culture. Her jumpsuit, however, remains symmetrical, an indication of her desperation to return to Akiridion-5 and live up to the strict honor code of House Okhrana.
