ALSO. i think people get hakuba and hyakuzawa mixed up a lot. they've both got a similar height and build and hairstyle and play the same position

it becomes a running joke throughout the pro leagues and makes for a fun time with falcons v warriors matches

in the event of a hyakuhina hookup (which i feel like actually could happen) they somehow get onto the topic of "haha it'd be even harder to tell them apart with your eyes closed!" and hinata, without thinking, goes "well, i probably could" and everyone is like "WHAT"

he digs himself an even deeper hole by saying "no, i just meant - i know hyakuzawa's body really well!!!" and everyone immediately starts screaming

i think shibayama (MY BELOVED) kind of occasionally forgets that he also has his own fanbase and is sort of semi-famous as the libero of tokai heavy industries esperanza bc. he knows kenma and yaku and lev and komi and yamamoto and fukunaga and, in general, a bunch of people that he believes are much more well-known than he is

he's always so flattered whenever someone stops him in the street to ask for a pic or when he sees posts online gushing about him

this is extra funny bc he never talks about his friends like they're famous so all of his teammates don't really know that shibayama is friends with all these other famous people

and then one of them, an avid kodzuken fan, spams their group chat when kodzuken's newest video is released and shibayama shows up in it

they're like "SHIBAYAMA!! HOW COME YOU NEVER TOLD US THAT YOU'RE FRIENDS WITH KODZUKEN??" and shibayama is like "i have?? i talk about kenma-san all the time??" and they're like "YOU'RE TELLING ME KODZUKEN IS THE SAME KENMA-SAN WHO RIPPED HIS HIGH SCHOOL JERSEY TRYING TO JUMP OVER A FENCE???"

(shibayama's second year. they'd been dealing with things. it worked out, in the end. even if they had to lie to nekomata and naoki about why all their jerseys ended up with holes in them.)

I doesn’t take more than this for Mingi to immediately call you, cutting the texting short so he can hear your voice, looking for any sign of a breakdown. He knows every crack, every change in your tone and years of friendship have given him the luxury of anticipating that kind of conversations.

« Is it about that jerk again ? » Mingi’s voice is a little hoarse but soft as ever and you can’t help but sigh as soon as it wraps you up into an invisible blanket. While he has been trying his best to keep your mind off of your ex boyfriend, Mingi knows just how much you can get into your own thoughts sometimes, digging your own grave.

You’ve been laying in bed for hours now, spiraling into your darkest thoughts, hating yourself for the most and reminiscing the last time you have felt truly loved and desired, failing to pinpoint the exact moment. There’s a knock on the door and you’re suddenly aware of your current state. Hair messily wrapped into a bun, rotting in your pjs and you’re pretty sure your face looks like it hasn’t seen a ray of sunshine in days but still, nothing compares to the absolute shock of seeing Mingi standing in front of your door as soon as you reluctantly fling it open.

« I was in the neighborhood » he shrugs with a smile, ending the call as you stare at him in disbelief with your phone still tapped to your ear. You had noticed the traffic sound in the background earlier and while you could perfectly picture your best-friend walking around the city, heading to god-knows-where as he tried his best to cheer you up, you were nowhere near prepared to have him showing up at your door within ten minutes.

« So what is this all about ? » he adds as you remain with your back against the door for a while, nervous to put some actual words on your insecurities. But as Mingi walks closer to you with his typical gummy smile, his dimple digging into the flesh of his cheek as a reminder of the safe place you have found in this man, nothing seems too unbearable anymore.

« I just… don’t feel desirable lately… »

« That’s bullshit »

« The same ? Yeah I know » he adds, his arms pulling you into a hug as you almost face plant into his chest. Sometimes, you tend to forget just how much taller he actually is, and though it’s not that obvious when you two are heading out while you perch yourself on some nice heels, today is quite the opposite. Standing on your tippy toes, you fail to even reach his shoulder and settle for the warmth of his chest against your cheek.

« You know you’re beautiful, right ? »

You nod, not entirely convinced but still appreciative of Mingi’s efforts to boost your confidence through his typical praises. You’ve been here before, seeking shelter into his arms while he tries his absolute best to cheer you up and though you would never admit it, there’s something about the way he looks at you, the intensity of his gaze almost burning through your skin, like there’s nothing left around for him to see but you, that makes you feel a little too special. More than you intend to be.

The sun has been replaced by a pitch black sky outside and the late hours of the night only occurs to you when you wake up, dizzy still, into the heated comfort of Mingi’s embrace. With his arm around you, your leg snaked around his hip as he rests lazily on the couch, the arm that isn’t keeping you safe simply settled behind his head as an extra pillow, Mingi only seems half-absorbed with the movie playing on tv, his attention caught with the very first flinch of your body against his.

« Well hello there, sleeping beauty » he smirks, immediately pressing his lips to your hair and you hate the way your skin reacts to a simple touch, shivers running down your spine as the warmth of his breath hits the back of your neck.

« How do you feel ? Any better ? » Mingi’s eyes are filled with a mix of worry and adoration, his palm reaching for your cheek to stroke it softly.

« Much better » you pause, reminiscing your prior breakdown « sorry ‘bout that ».

« Don’t you dare apologizing » his thumb hooks under your chin, forcing you to tilt your head upwards to meet his gaze, the intimacy of a simple gesture sending mixed signals to your brain though you decide to ignore those.

« I love you, don’t you ever doubt it » his lips find yours through a quick peck, nothing you haven’t done before but today, you feel him linger for a bit longer than usual, his fingers almost pushing into the plush flesh of your cheeks as you close your eyes to bask in the moment.

Hey Tokay-Blog saw your recent post, First of all oh my gosh did the puppies die? HOW?! Second, did that face response to my last question actually come true for foreshadowing. Lastly 3rd, after connecting all of their history together, their story kinda reminds me of this animatic above, if you’ve seen the video you’ll understand the context. Okay maybe the first half, if you’ve seen it you’ll know what I’m talking about in context.

Okay, I want to know how the transition of the phantoms deformity happened? How did we start from Leroux full face corpse while being skeleton like thin to ALW half faced deformity and "normal" body?

Hi, thanks for asking me a question! (my inbox is barren these days, except for the occasional tumbleweed...or should I say tumblrweed?) 😂

Well, I think Leroux chose a very corpse-like Phantom because an "opera ghost" should look macabre and close to death...just based on the name/concept. I do believe he was a fan of Bram Stoker's Dracula because Erik and Dracula have a lot of things in common. For example, Erik sleeps in a coffin, he has no mirrors in his house, he lives in a secluded and mysterious house, he doesn’t eat when Christine dines, he gives her Tokay wine at her first meal, he keeps her as his prisoner for a time, his eyes blaze, etc. I'm not sure if Leroux was trying to make his readers suspect Erik's a vampire all along or if he was paying homage to one of his fave novels or if he simply thought it would be cool to give Erik these traits. Gothic novels of that time just tended to have supernatural villains and Erik is no exception. It makes sense that a truly horrifying phantom would essentially look like a zombie...because what's scarier than something that really shouldn't be alive and is missing a nose??

As for ALW's half-deformity, @textsfromthefifthbasement has it right about Michael Crawford rehearsing with a full face mask and it being difficult to sing/emote well, so they switched to a half-mask. Regarding why it's not just a skeletal deformity, I think that would be underwhelming to modern audiences because we've collectively consumed so many horror movies since they were first made that we need something more contrasting and unnatural like this:

Trust me, the first time I ever saw this deformity, I was completely BOGGLED! Like...his head has a HOLE??? That somehow doesn't get infected or bleed out????? Don't even get me started on the version that has exposed brain 🤦:

As for the "normal" body, it would be difficult/problematic to only cast underweight actors for the Phantom...but I'd so love to see someone like Matthew Patrick Davis do a performance as ALW Erik! He's the 6'6" man who dressed up as Jack Skellington and performed as him for a youtube video (link here). Just imagine him doing Stranger Than You Dreamt It and the Final Lair with the same creepy/spidery physicality!

Alas...I don't know when we'll ever get a super accurate Leroux adaptation. Maybe one day Guillermo Del Toro will get around to directing one...and then we can all die happy 👻

Some world building real quick, eko history specifically

The beggining of time

In the beggining the creator god isa created the world along with 10 gods below themselves, who even they know not of isas existence.

The nine gods created 10 different regions, and ruled over their people and their kingdoms.

Fenisikan (phoenix)

Moakan (cat)

Tyutyurikan (owl)

Wuzeikan (squid)

Manyukan (eel)

Yukan (fish)

Xiarenkan (shrimp)

Ekekan (moth)

And bachikan (bee)

All gods had their respective species they represented, all but the zhamengshukan (mantis) people, they were created without a god, and with nowhere to go, they lived in the region of the tyutyurikans.

Within 10 thousand years a time system was created, the okai, every 1000 years the okai, along with the word changes.

After 7 okai passes, the zhamenshukan people decided they wished to be independent, and though sharing land, they separated from the tyutyurikan kingdom, and formed their own country, which was then known as imi, whilst the tyutyurikan lands remained as shuki. Imi created the first non godly form of government, and it took many years for it to become common elsewhere.

700 okai passes, the year is 452 nokai and news spreads the tyutyurikan goddess having a child, it’s unknown how this was pulled off, but many believe she used stolen magic from the other gods. The child was a demigod, immortal but not invincible, a human was chosen to be immortal alongside her, and always protect her when her mother could not. Her name was walunting.

One year later, in 453, another child was born, to a mortal mother, he was said to be a creator god, along with the 10 before him, skeptical, followers of the tyutyurikan faith set out to kill the child, completing the attack, the child miraculously survived, proving his immortality, a new faith was born, and the zhamengshukan people now had a god. His name was yueshuya.

When the child of the tyutyurikan god came of age, 27, she became queen, and became the main ruler of her country. being born to be peculiar, and quickly become good friends, when they reached around 120 years of age, shuki and imi joined to form one country, through the alliance of the god and queen, the country would then be known from then on as eko.

Eko, since it’s beginning, was always a reserved country, tyutyurikans and zhamengshukans aren’t human in the way the other species are, and due to this, often kept to themselves, until 780 mikai, about 1000 years after the birth of the god, most of the surrounding land was forested for miles and miles, making it hard for people to get out, or in.

In 780 mikai, there was change, the forests were either cut down, or worked through to make them travel-able, which led to more business and merchant type alliances to form.

For 8 more okai, all remains as is, before the yukan god allianced with the tyutyurikan god, causing the agreement to connect eko, and the yukans country of gamina, though still different country, they were considered of equal region. Yukan people began to move to eko, and vise versa with tyutyurikans and zhamens. I’m about 1 more okai, the population of the two countries were almost equal between the 3 species

About 15 more okai later, the queen is killed, and the zhamen god disappears, and the tyutyurikan god and the yukan god, though still in their alliance, return to mainly caring for their own countries, the population of eko returned to 70% zhamen, and gamina became 70% yukan

At this point this world, called saira as a whole has been around for 741,000 years, or 741 okai

As of now the tyutyurikan people will not be included, a curse has taken away their humanity

But that’s for a separate post

HELLO!??!!?!? I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THE FUN FACT ABT THE RADIATION MAN.

HI HELLO. HIIIII :3 I’M GONNA TALK ABOUT THE 1999 TOKAIMURA NUCLEAR ACCIDENT <3

ok so it’s been a hot minute since i’ve delved into this so don’t take everything as fact I HAVE FORGOTTEN A LOT OF THINGS. but basically a nuclear plant in Tokai-mura, Japan went critical because of unsafe work practices, there were so soooo many safety issues. like this company didn’t give a FUCK about its workers. BASICALLY the 3 technicians working at the time had to pour nuclear material BY HAND in stainless-steel buckets into a precipitation tank. which triggered a critical mass level incident. THEY MIXED CHEMICALS IN STAINLESS STEEL BUCKETS FOR EFFIFIENCY’S SAKE.

The technicians working on it were Hisashi Ouchi, Masato Shinohara, and Yutaka Yokokawa. Yokokawa i think was standing further away from the tank while Shinohara stood on a platform to help Ouchi pour it in. so like. Hisashi was DIRECTLY over the tank while pouring chemicals into it and he got the biggest blast of radiation. Yokokawa survived as far as i’m aware but the other two died unfortunately. Hisashi’s condition was. fucking brutal. not saying that Shinohara had it easy at all in his last few months but like. dude Hisashi went through some SHIT

i’m gonna put this under a cut because this gets GROSS

Hisashi seemed like. totally fine for the first few days. his family had hope that he would be fine and the doctors were optimistic too!! he had the best doctors in Japan helping him but shit went downhill QUICK. His white blood cell count dropped to almost nothing which left him with no functioning immune system. They transplanted white blood cells from his sister which kind of helped briefly?? but it just kept getting worse bc the leukocytes produced by the transplanted tissue got mutated by the residual radiation, which made his immune system basically start attacking itself and his body in general and his white blood cell counts began to decrease AGAIN. but transplanting new cells helped a little just to keep him alive so they kept doing it but they did have to put him in a secluded sector so he wouldn’t get sick and die from a common cold

in any case his body was trying to attack the radiation but the radiation was EVERYWHERE so it began to eat at tissues, including his intestines, digestive system, and his skin. he had huge weeping sores all over and his skin began to peel off when nurses went in to clean him. Also everything he ate just went right through him so they eventually had to put a feeding tube in him just to keep things constantly going through, which means he could no longer speak to his family when they visited

His heart stopped i think about a month into his treatment?? they only managed to revive him because a doctor was passing by his room and saw the flatline, but by that point they didn’t know how long his heart had been stopped so they didn’t know how much brain damage there had been. he stopped responding to stimuli after that. so best case scenario, he couldn’t feel much pain for the rest of his time in the hospital.

his left arm (which received the most radiation) was absolutely awful to look at or even be near because of the smell, his body was rapidly decaying around him and it was TERRIBLE. surprisingly though, his right arm and most of the right side of his body was pretty okay!! not GREAT obvi but minimal damage in comparison, but the residual radiation was spreading and it probably would have gotten there eventually. His heart was constantly going at above 110bpm, and he couldn’t even breathe without it hurting like a bitch because of the fluid building up in his lungs so they had to hook him up to a machine that would force him to breathe

he was in there for 83 DAYS!! it’s insane that the doctors were able to keep him alive for that long n they all wanted him to miraculously pull through and there were moments where they had hope

ALSO every article out there likes to villainize his family by saying “they kept Hisashi alive against his will and wouldn’t let him die :(“ but like. imagine how his wife and kids must have felt. they didn’t push the doctors to do anything!! in fact, when the doctors showed them all the damage that had been done and finally said there was no way they could save him, they understood!! they decided not to revive him the next time his heart stopped. they kept making little paper cranes and leaving them in his room and in the hospital and they basically lived inside that waiting room for those 83 days. he died on Dec 21, 1999 and i think there are still paper cranes from them in that hospital waiting room to this day

Shinohara went through some similar things like skin grafts and organ failure, but he managed to pull through for SEVEN MONTHS!!! His radiation wasn’t as bad as Hisashi’s but man he still went through it. Yokokawa was released with mild radiation poisoning and faced negligience charges afterward

He's a baker. He grew up baking with his mom. Cakes, pies, pastries, he can do it all.

He loves animals!! He loves reptiles and amphibians. When he has his own permanent place he's gonna have a bunch of them as pets. He'd get the really feisty ones too. Like a tokay gecko or a green tree python, (sorry I do be a reptile nerd) and he'd tame them down somehow cuz he's just that good.

He majors in mechanical engineering

His grades are just okay, but his teachers and professors (the cool ones) like him anyway because he's obviously so fucking smart and also funny. Funny works wonders for getting teachers to like you.
