ugh THANK YOU for making that will wood fandom post. okay this ask is gonna be super long and i’m really sorry to vent in your inbox but anyway. i heard about will on tumblr several years ago right after the normal album dropped but before he “blew up” (using that term loosely lol) and i’ve steadily watched his fanbase become more and more unbearable. for context i’m in my mid 20s, so unfortunately quite a bit older than a large portion of his current fans.

it’s really disappointing to me to see how strangely and unhealthily young people interact with media they like. i won’t waste time reiterating what you already said very well, but i will add something about the opposite end of the weird fan spectrum. so you basically called out some of the very public manic obsession that his younger fans display, but then there’s the other fans who do literally the opposite (to an obnoxious degree) where they say he’s literally just some guy etc. and like. i’m totally on board with the just some guy movement like yes let’s please acknowledge that artists are just people who happen to create something that you enjoy (especially small artists like will who aren’t even “famous” like he’s a niche indie artist that gained some recognition for a viral song but there are some kids out here treating him like a c-list celebrity like??) HOWEVER i do not understand why they have to act like any sort of emotional attachment to him or his work is toxic fan behavior. there’s absolutely no balance and it’s exhausting.

i personally feel like i and some of his older fans (older in age and duration i.e. mid 20s and/or been a fan since before early-mid 2021? i feel like that’s when he went viral) naturally engage in a more sane way. i personally am incredibly attached to his music, it means a lot to me, i listen to it a ton, and i also enjoy will as a person; i very much admire the brain, the mind, the person behind the art. i think he’s funny, intelligent, interesting, not to mention one of the most talented musicians / artists in general that i’ve ever come across. i like listening to him in interviews and on his podcast. and i think i manage all of that in a healthy and respectful way. i don’t think it’s difficult. but for some reason there are some fans who probably wouldn’t like the second part of that. they take “separate the art from the artist” way too far. “Do Not Have An Opinion About This Human You Perv”. it’s annoying. calling him pretty or attractive or whatever also gets met with some very weird reactions. “HE’S JUST A GUY” yes most of us are, in fact, just a guy™️ (gender neutral). saying he’s cute is not sexual harassment.

another thing that actually pisses me off so much is these fans describing and categorizing him based on their and their mutuals very specific demographic. “white teenage transmasc audhd neurodivergent mentally ill queer etc. etc. etc.” music. that is such a limited and myopic generalization. first of all, he had fans way before you, your age group is not his target demographic, nor is it his core demographic, on top of that he’s explicitly stated he doesn’t want people your age listening to him. he’s not for you. second, it absolutely makes sense that mentally ill people gravitate towards him given that he himself is severely mentally ill, so this part of the description pisses me off the least, but still, he’s also a recovering/recovered alcoholic, but i don’t see people saying he makes music for addicts? idk.

next is the queer bit. yeah gay people like him. i get it. he’s a queer safe space and that’s cool and i appreciate it but i feel like it’s still narrowing the categorization. he also has a lot of neurodivergent fans and i understand why. i think my main issue is just a combination of all of these very specific descriptors you know? like yeah he has fans that fit all of this but when you lump all of it together to describe his music and the entirety of his fandom then it becomes too much. whatever. anyway. the one that makes me the most mad is the white thing. i hate it when music that isn’t inherently racial is divided by race. it’s alienating and divisive and exclusionary and unnecessary. there are plenty of fans of color and there would probably be even more if some of y’all didn’t insist on generalizing his music based on your own limited experience. i think that’s sort of a microcosm of what a lot of poc talk about on here, about being shoved out of fandom spaces? like imagine you’re an adult queer black guy and you keep hearing about this will wood person who makes really cool music so you go to give it a try and find a bunch of 14yos calling him white preteen transmasc music. super off putting. even as someone who actually does fall into a couple (not all) of the demographics they talk about i know i would absolutely not be a fan now if i’d discovered him later than i did. which makes me sad. anyway. sorry this is definitely getting very long and rambly so i’m sorry about that i just have a lot of opinions about this fanbase.

everyone who goes too far with the "HES JUST A GUY" thing isn't helping. its like. yeah, hes just a guy, but that doesn't mean i cant have any sort of attachment to his music whatsoever??? some people's idea of treating people like real people is really just treating them worse than how they were being treated before 😭

The people who are policing the fandom too much aren't helping either, its getting really exhausting to keep seeing posts saying "oh he looks really good in this photo!" and seeing like 200 replies being like "STOP SEXUALIZING YOU CREEP!!!!" (although there are people who actually do sexualize him, (which is really gross and weird) but i digress,)

music based fandoms are usually very,,, eh.. but honestly most of the fandom isn't bad, its just the people who take things to the extremes (in both directions) who are kind of making it a bit more awkward.

i think the fandom, and his music as a whole shouldn't just be narrowed down to "gay neurodivergent weirdo music," but it should just be like. "music for cool people" or hell, just fuckin "music"

to celebrate i’ve decided to host a lil event for you! i wanna write things for you guys, things that you want!

so here’s the idea:

☽ i will keep 5 slots open (for now, i just wanna make sure i can work at a steady pace). i will open more once i get in the swing of things.

☽ there are two different ways you can send in requests. the first option is short and simple! just send in a character and a quick little prompt of what you’d like, and i’ll write out a short drabble for you!

☽ the second option is song related. you can either send me a character and a song you like (if i haven’t heard the song i will listen to it!) and then i will write you a short piece based on what vibes i get from the song. OR if you don’t have any songs to suggest, give me a number between 1 and 400 and i will pick the corresponding song off my main playlist to write something with the character you choose!

☽ i’m okay with both sfw and nsfw requests (obviously you need to be 18+ to request nsfw)

Do either try to hide their emotions if upset? Can the other still tell? Yes and sometimes. In the before times they were much more open with each other, but now both of them are a lot more guarded, and it's going to take time to work that out. Avis won't try to hide her emotions if she's just pissed off. But if she actually feels hurt, she doesn't want to talk about it, even though he's going to want her to if he notices. Sorian tends to shut his hurt in too, but not because he's afraid of vulnerability - he's just worried, based on multiple previous experiences, that the second he shows that vulnerability Avis is going to rip him to shreds. He also doesn't want to seem upset with her in general because he doesn't feel like he's allowed to be, or she doesn't think he's allowed to be, which at the end of the day are the same thing. But Avis would rather he be upset with her because she knows what to do with that.

Do they have many heated arguments? How do they smooth things over? In the before times, they actually didn't really. They definitely argued, but it rarely got heated. Now they're both so on edge it's almost inevitable. They smooth it over first by not talking about it. Then one of them will either be bothered enough to break the ice, or it'll come back up when they've both had a drink and can attempt to approach it like rational adults.

Who’s the bigger tease? Sorian, just because he's more direct and obvious about it.

How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash? It's easy to see that they clash because Avis is mean and Sorian is a wet noodle of a person. But it's more complicated than that. They both know each other really well - they were married for almost sixteen years before they separated - and are good at knowing what the other needs or wants. They're both meticulous up to a certain point, a point which almost always comes earlier for Avis because she gets tired of being careful and says to hell with it (I'm thinking about carpentry but this applies to everything basically).

Do they always say 'i love you' before leaving? Hoo boy not with those words. That's what they mean, but they usually sound more like "okay, bye, dumbass" or "I'm going now" or "come back with orange juice or don't come back at all".

Can they stay up all night just talking? They believe they can. They'll be asleep by 1.

Who's more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately? If it's the waist, it's Sorian. Avis generally leverages some higher body part first to bring Sorian closer to her level (she's 5' 3", he's 6' 2").

How likely are they to have fur babies? How many and what kind? Not very. Sorian doesn't super care about having pets, and Avis is allergic to cats. If they ever got a pet it would probably be a hermit crab.

How do they feel about PDA? Avis would like to be the kind of person who doesn't give a shit, but really you'd be hard-pressed to get her to do more than hold hands or maybe rest her face on his shoulder. Historically she was a little more touchy-feely, and Sorian definitely was, but that was in the before before times when they still lived on Imni (an island on Rade). Sorian will still be a little more touchy even now.

i decided i literally can’t just pick a top 5 like...i’m incapable. how do you even compare all of these songs that are all so different? like it was hard enough for just those 34 title tracks the other week...so i’m doing 4 lists. group b-sides, unit songs, vocal line solos, and rap line solos. and i’m gonna be more chill on the whole only sound matters thing lol because there are a lot of reasons why i’m attached to some of these songs. i’ll try to explain them but it won’t always be sound related. the only rules i’m using are 1.) the song must be on spotify and 2.) BTS or a member of BTS must be the main artist.

i’m gonna start with unit songs because those were actually easiest to pick?

1. dimple

look i was really truly...choosing between this song and #2 is basically impossible, i would say they’re tied but i’m giving this #1 because it’s the only vocal line song on here lol. but also it’s everything to me, PERFECT pop song, super catchy AND quality, like it sounds amazing and yet it’s about kim namjoon’s very own dimples. like sometimes i forget what it’s about and then it gets to the bridge and i realize they’re being this dramatic about fucking dimples and i start laughing i just can’t believe it. that continues to be a theme here i love songs that make me laugh. although i do understand them being that dramatic about namjoon’s dimples like have you SEEN them? but anyway the BEST thing about this song, and i’m not sure if i have the words to explain this properly, is all the SOUNDS going on all the time. and they’re all on like entirely different rhythms, it doesn’t seem like any of them go together or with the vocals but then they DO. like it’s incredible to me whoever produced this i love you. matthew tishler (i’m SCREAMING actually this guy writes for like disney channel shows idk how to feel about that) and crash cove. i love you both. and you gave us such a satisfying voluptuous bass line. perfect song. strong power. thank you.

i was actually going to have another top 5 list with collabs but i thought that would be excessive and this is also a unit song so i’m just putting it here. this song is one my ultimate faves because of the...i don’t even know if i can call it bass it’s more of like a rumble? like it kind of reminds me of a sound they would use in an EDM or dubstep song but like, super chilled out. and you know how the sound you hear is just your tiny little ear bones rattling in your eardrum? i feel like this sound rattles all of them in such a satisfying way like one of those coway massage chairs. like when you have a part of your body that you just KNOW you have to stretch but no matter how much you do it it feels the same but then one day you FINALLY bend it the right way and it stops? is that just a me thing? that is this song for me i gotta feel it in me ear bones every once in a while to be satisfied. and then on TOP of that the synth just reminds me of like, simply having a wonderful christmastime? not at all a similar song but i get a kind of wintery comforting feeling from that. ummm. i never really thought much about the lyrics until now, looks like namgi are talking about their love for their work lol but like...this is a sexy vibe...namjoon saying “come to my studio, magic happens” “seat-belts are fastened” “we keep ridin’ the whole night hold on tight” in THAT voice over THAT instrumental...he knows what he’s doing. i cannot be held responsible for my thoughts about this. and since there’s no performance or mv or anything to play in my head for this song i have NO choice but to imagine sitting on a basement couch with the artist made mikrokosmos mood lamp by jungkook on getting high with namgi and mayhaps we are eating ramen. before we move on VERY quickly i gotta shout out Juice WRLD for “need an ARMY, marching for your love, i’m a sergeant” because that is hiLARIOUS and “if it’s not your name comin’ up on my phone i won’t pick up the call” as someone who also HATES talking on the phone unless i’m super close to a person. like his whole verse is sweet and his voice is so interesting it’s got like a whininess to it that i wouldn’t expect to fit into the song but it does. i should listen to more of his stuff maybe

4. Stay

the PRODUCTION on this thing oh wow wow wow. again not that i know anything about production. but like, to put this in perspective, i’m not really into EDM or club music or whatever i’m supposed to call this. i wasn’t really into that era of pop music or most of the bts songs with that kind of sound but THIS. SONG. it’s really just the way it builds so smoothly from something so simple and ebbs and flows, it is PERFECT. i will definitely be following that producer (arston) and hoping he does more for bts one day. thank you for finishing out the be album with a bang what do you mean there’s another track on the be album. and then on TOP of that, such a sweet song, great vocals from jinkook, and namjoon’s iconic line “we connect to 7g!” i’ve made peace with the fact that they didn’t sing that part during ptd i can only assume the power of the crowd screaming that line would have been dangerous. power would’ve gone out concert over. cell towers fall down now none of us are connecting to 7g. boo

5. BTS Cypher 4

okay so the thing about cypher 4 is it’s all about “i love myself” right but when this comes on i am not myself...i am in the bts rap line. i am on the wings tour cypher 4 stage, i am wearing hobi’s velvety purple jacket and red sunglasses and the DEMONS haters cannot touch me. this was the first cypher i loved <3

ahhh i’m gonna cry...i love this song so much because i read a really good analysis article on it one time, this might be it but i’m not 100% sure i never remember anything. wait i’m reading it now and i’m crying that’s definitely it. oh and this one too that gets kinda technical with how the production and the meaning work together and the PSYCHOLOGY of it all??? gonna let those articles do the talking but this song is v imp*rtant to me

i remember i didn’t love this song at first, it had to grow on me. him saying “finna find my time” over and over again did not help lmao. but his voice sounds really good and the instrumental is very satisfying. i learned what it was about early on but never really looked at the lyrics since so i forgot how much english was in this song? i guess i’m just appreciating the sound i really don’t care what he’s saying lol but it’s super meaningful! i hope he’s catching up on whatever youth he can these days

4. Sweet Night ⛵

tae has REALLY good osts...i loved it’s definitely you and christmas tree but this song is just...especially relatable for me. it’s the longing and the pining and the fear of expressing your feelings and the wondering if you deserve love from certain people and the not knowing what you have til you lose it. that’s MY thing actually he stole it. and aside from that it’s just a gorgeous song, i love the harmonies, this song would have fit in very well with my vast collection of 2010s sad acoustic music

5. Super Tuna 🐟

yup. one minute and eight seconds of pure trot excellence featuring horrible homemade t shirts and dog toys from target that made me (and tiktok maybe?) a jin bias. what can i say i like the songs that go hard. like it’s so fast i don’t even dance to this song it’s more like a head/fist shake marching wringing out a towel thing. also the way he enunciates everything? the force with which he says palttakpalttak?? what else can that mouth do???

Right, basically more recently I’ve been working on some kind of persona game. It’s basically an idea for Persona 6 except created by a person who is horrible with thinking about creating tightly-knit narratives or themes so yeah. And at the end of a few of the character’s sections will be a song that I kinda got inspired by their character over (yes my music taste is impeccable what do you mean?). Also if there are general mistakes and such then my apologies, I’m shocking at spelling sorry lol.

(Oh yeah, there are trigger warnings to list off because what’s an oc if something horrible and traumatic didn't happen to them right? EDs, domestic abuse, grooming, SA. So yeah, please don't trigger yourself just to read some random person’s shit ideas. I’d rather you be okay really lol)

I have literally hardly anything thing outside of the characters for it and that’s:

- The levels will be called districts

- The main theme of the shadows and districts will be about a person’s deepest fear and the idea of giving into them

- The supernatural thingymabob (Like the TV world, The Dark Hour and the Metaverse app) will be an elevator in the basement an old hotel

- The Velvet Room is a bar with the whole theme of running from a person’s fears with alcohol, fusing personas would be mixing drinks

- The main colour is green (creative ik) mainly cause I associate green with fear but also green could relate to nature and calming oneself

- The theme of the character’s personas will be characters from plays

- I want to have a proper human antagonist to be the mastermind behind everything with it maybe being either a mentor to the MC or a twin (the only thing with that is worrying about it being similar to Joker and Akechi’s symbolism) that gave into their fear of every action being pointless

- The shadows and districts would be more so mocking and satirising these people’s fears with the whole idea being how fears can be irrational and all that

- The method that the party members (Including the MC in their second awakening, yes I will get onto that) would acquire their persona would be to rip out their shadow’s “heart” essentially. The “heart” would only be a reflection of their vulnerability. This whole ripping out their heart thing would also be how they summon their persona in battle and such

- The romance options will be more concise and make actual sense legally (So not P5 lmao), also they can date whatever gender cause there are two MCs again (huzzah for FemC) so basically anyone can feel closer in a relationship (straight, lesbian, gay, bi etc…well actually that covers it mostly) and it means that the harem scene can be even fucking funnier than it already is

- The bosses in the levels would be the shadow enveloping the person and fuse with them (Except the MC’s shadow)

- The shadows of the characters will also represent their reversed arcana

And with that here is some basic shit about these buffoons I’ve made (There’s gonna be around 9 hopefully if I can be bothered to think of more) so Y’know, critique them or whatever you’d like to do. Although one request would be to just throw out ideas to add to this really. I’ll have the *Very* unfinished basic character sheet then info on the district then all the bullshit notes I have. He puts on this facade in general, making it seem like he’s actually pretty put together and confident in himself, but in reality, he’s really struggling with himself, and the confidence he has for himself is only in sports.

More of a mini-district to introduce some of the mechanics surrounding them like bosses and mini-bosses. His ultimate fear is simply losing this excuse for his own behaviour with his trauma of being ripped from his old home and brought to this new town. The whole level will be a giant mockery of him, reminding him of stuff like he has “no-balls” and other such insults. Akito’s dungeon is a casino in reference to the phrase “The house always wins” basically poking fun at him for basically being homeless and the casino thing plays into the randomness of his life. This district cracking down on this boy the hardest as he is being actively fed opportunities to get past his trauma but he’s the one going against that himself over and over so the district mocking him constantly is basically himself making fun of how he is ruining his chance at a normal household.

Extra Notes: Extremely closeted with only his dad knowing about his son’s “impurity”. Also, there will be a sort of scene like in P4G where you see how the characters are and Renji would’ve taken up the mantle of the town’s religious leader but ended up being the opposite of his father and providing support to those in his situation.

His district is basically a Garden of Eden theming with a tree centralising the area. The area before the tree would be the town’s library where he meets with Shinsei with the implications there being clear. The area before the ascension of the tree will have TVs all over the place leaking static and puddles of it corrupting his paradise, all symbolising his dad being the extreme preacher on the screens of the town and how it’s ruining his son. At the top of the tree would be a church similar to the one in the town but with Renji’s shadow inside acting just like his father. The church would be hanging from the tree like the apple in the GoE to both show how he’s being conditioned by his dad to lead the same legacy as him (think the snake and Eve) and the phrase “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. The whole naming of the district just mocking both his fears and just how little privacy he has to process his trauma.

Shadow’s Appearance: He’d basically look the same as the regular version like most shadows but his uniform shirt would be partially undone, he would have some heeled boots on, a pair of garish heart glasses on, a longer pink tongue that is usually hung out his mouth and wearing a pink faux fur scarf.

History: He was constantly sexualised by his mother (think toxic boy mom) and took that with him in life and ended up with him treating his job at a fast food place, that his mother owns, like a brothel. His fear is being nothing more than this sexual image he was forced into.

Extra Notes: Another part of Shinsei would make a part of the big event that is detailed in his social link would be him being honest about his bisexuality and regrets ever telling anyone about it due to how the event between him and his mom’s friend was brushed off because of it. The encounter that he finally admits in his social link is how he was taken advantage of by one of his mom’s friends when he was still a kid. This would explain why the mother would brush this off and how Shinsei would push this over-sexualised part of him to cope and try and take back his sexuality but ultimately throwing it away as he feeds into his mother’s need for this affection and show of intimacy from him. The main tragedy of the whole situation is how easily it was thrown away as he is both a guy and seen as promiscuous already due to having an interest in men. Everyone just assumed he came onto her and she got away with it and never gets in trouble at all in the story. There is sorta a need in his life for this getaway and a freeing part of his social link with a relationship between him and Renji forming. Both of them being extremes of the concept of a person’s sexuality being taken from them in horrific ways.

His district is a mix of the fast food place he works at with a typical club with flashy lights and interesting music playing. Basically, it’s satirising it sort of with them still selling gross ass food and being in regular uniforms and roller skates because it’s fun. All the workers are essentially just stand-ins for Ryosei with a mask with a heart on it or whatever to show he’s only seen for his sexuality and also it’s a parallel of how fast food workers are only seen as numbers. It would probably look to be mostly a kind of reflective black vinyl look with the bright flashy pink lights being the main colour. The music could be a little jingle maybe mixed with heavy club music. This all just adds to the satirising of him over-sexualising himself. The cognitive version of his mother would be a pimp in “Fillet up!” having a lot more dramatic irony and making how he gets away with all of the blatant sexual harassment in the restaurant make sense.

Extra Notes: She can be seen before her arc in the game’s version of a social media app. Also for the whole ending segment where the player sees how they all turned out, she would end up being a baker, enjoying this more dull and traditional life and even deciding to choose a Japanese name for herself

Her district is a giant hotel with flashy lights and such making it look like a Vocaloid concert. It would have light motifs of spiders with the webs and bugs generally too. The cognitive mother would appear in the level too, becoming a giant spider in the boss fight too with the girl being a fly-like version of herself showing how she’s being preyed upon for her talent. The level will be sort of internet-themed, the spider idea having three bits of symbolism tied to it with the World Wide Web, the mother’s web of lies and manipulation and finally how she’s acting predatory with her kid. Also across the district, there will be things like pop-ups and such. Also, it shows across the district how she’s selling off her nationality (literally in this case).

Shadow’s Appearance: The shadow and the dungeon would adopt more doll-like features and having more effeminate designs. This is an exaggeration of how he is taking on aspects of his younger sister subconsciously and refusing to move on so the shadow would have things like long almost fishnet-looking gloves that look like funeral wear and frills on the shoulders of his clothes but also have a very masculine dress apart from that. Its eyes wouldn’t ever close and it would have fake eyelashes and other small things like that to basically mock this idea of him desperately clinging to the memory of his sister.

History: His story is more focused on grief and the fear of forgetting a person who died. He essentially acted as a guardian to his younger sister and brought her to an amusement park for Girl’s Day with that being the day she ultimately died in that accident.

Mahō Tsukai no Yome/ The Ancient Magus Bride – Anime review from an otaku witch.

This is one of these MASTERPIECES that deserve a full 10 stars from now on. As soon I saw the first episode, I end with a merge of euphoria and happiness because YES THIS IS MY SERIE.

It has so many good things that I should make the list:

Characters: WAY TOO GOOD. Even the lady, who seems kinda boring at first, SHE HAVE HER REASONS, and her growth is a delight.

Elias is by far one of my favorite characters EVER from now on, and the fact that he has basically no facial expressions, make it better, because they manage to show you his feels ("feels") and intentions with such a subtle way that you can get a glimpse of his thoughts even when he don't move or say a word. His own persona is a full different aspect. His backstory, his lore, his unknown reason to be. Not even mention that his face is pretty much a witch symbolism, but well, I will touch the witch aspect of this serie in my witch blog lol.

The secondary ones are also amazing, even the ones who basically don't even move. They are made in a way that you feel they NEED to be there, they are not a filling or a decoration.

Music: Great music, especially in some special sad moments, where you can cry your ass off. Lindel’s song (Iruna Etelero) make me cry each single time. And is, by far, one of the best anime’s song to my taste.

Design: This is an anime that is beyond beautiful, it carries so much artistic visual that in some moments, you need to make a pause just to contemplate a single frame. It replaces the "lack of action" (yeah, don't expect a fight each episode because will not happen) with the slow pace of the visuals.

Lore: Okay but now HERE is when the things get GOOD. Besides my otaku side, I'm also a witch, so I can tell you that a huge chunk of the magical lore is ACCURATE. From creatures, myths, material, ingredients, techniques, all. IS WAY TOO ACCURATE, it let me think that the writer has a witch expert near to learn about these shits.

Story: Besides all that, the story is phenomenal, magnificent. The sad parts are SAD AS FUCK, and this serie touch death in so many artistic ways that is almost a thesis of the process of life and death. That also make it fall a little in the dark and horror side, it has some good chunk of dark gore (what can be a little too much if you are not used to that) which play a lot with the light pretty parts, just as life itself, in a mix of tragedy and joy.

Not even mention how, in a subtle way, show us about PTSD, suicide and depression, how slowly heal from traumatic events, how grow and take healthy coping mechanisms; how a person under a traumatic past can get numb to the point that everything seems bland and pointless, about codependency, grief. Is a book about psychology with pretty stuffs in the middle.

A big bad point: A hint of Antisemitism. The main bad character is the Wandering Jew, and one of the “good” ones is a German scientist called Adolf Straud. Meanwhile, IRL existed Adolf Strauss, a German general from the Nazis. Like… * cringes *

Score: 4.7/5 and 9/10 Almost perfect if is not because these bad points, and the serie is dead and apparently the writer too (?), so is a serie that will never end and that make me sad. Nobody who is an even mild otaku can't not watch this short serie. I don't mention the manga because apparently is HUGE and well, no end.

okay so this might get a little long so i’m putting it under a cut but basically in summary: they are insane. they’d already put themselves through a lot of emotional pressure writing the album in a haunted mansion where their producer was encouraging psychological warfare among them, and then they threw themselves into a LONG and gruelling tour and honestly made it as difficult for themselves as possible every step of the way. they were dealing with mental and physical illness and they pushed way past the point of exhaustion. they were reaching major life milestones (all of them got engaged at least once, three of them got married) but spending entire years away from home. they became the face of a subculture they didn’t particularly feel like they had anything in common with, and then they got some really bad press that was extremely demoralising because it wasn’t about the music, it was about the actual message of the band, which had been twisted and misinterpreted.

so the page for this tour got taken down from wikipedia for some reason but it’s archived here and it’ll give you an impression of just how huge this tour was.  legs kept getting added on to the tour because they thought this was the band’s, like, one big chance to take over the world so they didn’t want to say no to anything because they thought that’s what the album deserved. at the start of it they effectively played two sets a night - the black parade front to back and then some revenge and bullets songs as an extended encore. they did it all in thick, non-breathable wool jackets and trousers, and they did it six nights a week with almost no breaks - basically the only breaks they did get were when they were travelling between continents lol. the wiki page i linked lists the dates of the tour proper, but they were also playing album launch shows in multiple countries in the months before it fully kicked off. the spot that looks like they had a nice long break between july and october was actually almost fully taken up by pro rev LOL.

gerard and ray were actually the only members who made it through the full tour. cortez filled in for both mikey and frank at different times. mikey left fairly early - in april 2007, after getting married to alicia backstage after their show in vegas in march. he left for a honeymoon and didn’t come back until september for the final couple shows of pro rev. he also opened up a bit about how hard 2006 had been on his mental health while they were writing the album, so the break was much-needed. frank left a couple of times for shorter stretches, once because of an illness in his family and once because he had a wisdom tooth complication and couldn’t fly to australia. also, yeah, the constant touring took a toll on his physical health at times and he wouldn’t take breaks when he needed them - i’m sure you’ve seen the pictures of him onstage attached to an oxygen tank. bob was recovering from third-degree burns at first and then had persistent issues with chronic pain in his wrist and had to take a couple of months off playing or risk permanently disabling himself, and for at least most of those dates he was replaced by tucker from thursday. beyond that they did have to cancel several dates in may 2007 because everyone except frank and gerard (including most of their crew and the band muse) got terrible food poisoning from some catering chicken (frank escaped because he’s vegan and gerard because he slept through catering that day lol).

projekt revolution saw the band, like...really fucking exhausted. at that point they’d started getting kind of sick of playing the characters of the black parade. ray in particular talked about feeling disconnected from their audiences because of the uniforms and burned out by the repetition (this article’s pretty interesting because ray doesn’t talk about that aspect of the band very often in public). so for the festival shows they gave up playing parade in full and doing two sets every night for a bit, but now they were playing in extreme heat with a shit tonne of pyrotechnics lol. pro rev was meant to be the end of the tour, but they added a couple of extra shows in mexico to ritualistically kill off the black parade because i would expect no less from this band (that was october 7 2007, which is when the black parade is dead was filmed). and then they added another leg, and another...and they essentially ended up doing what basically amounted to a second full world tour without ever stopping the first one lol. it wasn’t only long but also so over-the-top in terms of theatrics and staging that they barely even broke even financially at the end of it. which is like. crazy. they had five full buses of stage equipment and a sound and lighting system that took five hours to set up and three hours to dismantle every night.

so if you’ve watched the infamous reading & leeds show you’ll recognise the “fuck the daily mail” thing, which is because after tbp came out they published satanic-panic-lite type articles calling mcr a suicide cult that promoted self-harm and stuff. you gotta understand that the emo subculture, whether or not it was connected to mcr, was one of the biggest laughing stocks of the noughties. notably, there were a series of riots and hate-crimes in mexico against “emo” kids (largely due to in actuality to homophobia, of course), and mcr would get asked about it so often that they felt like they were being blamed for it and that they needed to apologise for it. gerard in particular has spoken quite a bit about how much he struggled with feeling like tbp was being misinterpreted and taken out of context when it was such a deeply personal album to him. then things got even worse in may 2008, around the end of the tour, when the daily mail reported on the “emo cult” again, this time explicitly linking the tragic suicide of a 13-year-old girl to mcr. obviously this is, like, the antithesis of everything the band stood for, and they took it really hard. it spiralled even further, with gerard making a public statement about it, fans protesting at the daily mail offices, an inquest into the tragic suicide, and the daily mail doubling down and claiming that mcr should be grateful for the extra “publicity” they were getting from all of this. yeah. there’s a long section detailing all of this in not the life it seems, if you can stomach reading it.

the peak of this kind of aligns with the actual end of the black parade world tour in may 2008 in madison square garden. this is another one of those infamous shows - again, there’s an entire section in not the life it seems dedicated to it. it was a dream come true to play msg, especially for gerard and mikey, but they were completely burned out by that point. apparently the show itself was great and they were full of energy, but gerard was speaking to the crowd like the band was about to break up, and apparently the vibes were not great backstage. frank was so nervous about the show that he took a bunch of pills to get through it and has almost no memory of it. after they left the stage, ray found gerard in a dressing room and advised him to take a break or start another band that nobody knew about so it wouldn’t be the end of mcr for good. apparently gerard wrote boy division in the taxi on the way home after that gig but i can’t remember where i read that now so i might be wrong about that bit.

anyway, then none of them really saw each other for several months. frank started leathermouth because he can’t live without touring (ray played with them once too), but besides that the first time they were together again was for ray’s wedding later that summer. according to himself, brian schechter (their manger up until then) was fired over phone the morning after someone’s wedding so i have to assume it was ray’s given the timing lol (unless it was when gerard and lynz had a little ceremony or whatever, idk when that was).

anyway happy ending at least: they got back in the studio in october 2008 in new york to record desolation row for the watchmen movie and had such an amazing time that ray flew down to la (where gerard had recently moved) and he, gerard, and bob jammed around and wrote four new songs in no time. over the next year or two, the rest of mcr followed gerard to la one by one and started working on conventional weapons and they swore it would be a fun album to write and that they wouldn’t put themselves through the black parade recording process again. anyway then they scrapped it last minute to write danger days instead lol.

but yeah like. i think it’s easy to forget now in 2022 just how huge mcr was during parade era, but how they got completely misinterpreted in bad faith by, like, the media and culture as a whole. it’s probably fairly common for bands like them to be kind of misunderstood in their lifetimes but hailed as visionaries years or decades later, so it’s kind of like really fucking exciting to see mcr actually active again during the time when i feel like they’re finally started to get appreciated for what they really are. which is the greatest band in the world if you ask me but i guess i am a little bit biased <3

A Note on Writing Without an “Outline”

I do not plan very heavily what I write. I find it impossible to. And yesterday a perfect example of why happened to me and so I thought I would share it because I think writing process is interesting and I think everyone’s is different and so it’s good to hear about all different ways because there isn’t just one way. And I also think there’s a lot of stuff out there about outlining and plotting and I have never been able to get any of it to work for me, and I’m fine with that, because, well, I’ll tell the story:

Okay, so when I say I don’t “outline” when I write, or “plan very heavily,” that isn’t to say that I write with *nothing.* Usually I start with a vague idea of where a story is going to go. I am not, however, always right about that, and that’s why I don’t consider it much of an outline or plan, because it goes out the window fairly quickly. And that’s why I don’t spend much time thinking about it, because why spend a lot of time on something you’re probably going to switch up immediately? I am nothing if not efficient. So, rather than outline, I just get myself started. I go, “I’m going to write a story about a world where all children have been genetically optimized,” and that’s literally all I have. That, and the first line. Usually, I know it’s time to start writing when the first line of the story comes to me, or the first scene.

So, as I write, I have a growing list of things I want to remember to work into the fic that I throw at the bottom of the document. Some of these are plot points. For instance, in the fic I’m writing now, I have “Pete’s family” written. I have a very vague idea of what I think I’m going to do with Pete’s family, but for now it’s enough that I want to remember that I wanted to deal with them at some point. More often, though, the bits at the bottom of my outline are reminders of inside jokes I’ve written, or, basically, a Chekhov’s gun I’ve put on the shelf, that I want to remember to circle back around on. Frequently, at the bottom is the punchline of a joke I want to make, or a line of dialogue that feels particularly apt to me that I want to make sure I don’t forget to use. When I was writing the Schrodingerverse wedding, for instance, I had “I vow to believe you” written at the end of it, because I write my fics in order from first sentence to last sentence and it was a while until I got to the vows but I didn’t want to forget that I had that vow picked out. I also had “Taylor Swift wedding song” and “fireworks” written at the bottom, too, so that I wouldn’t forget either of those things. So, to the extent that that’s an outline, there you have it. I don’t usually cross things off the list, because I like to leave them as reminders that the characters can keep referencing, and I don’t always hit everything on the list, although I often try.

So, aside from the list, I also have in my head the next few scenes thought through. Not usually in great detail, just like, okay, it’ll be x, y, z. So, to use last night’s example, I had, forty pages earlier, had Patrick send a letter to his sister. I needed Patrick to get a reply to this letter. I also knew vaguely what the letter’s contents would say: He’d invited her to come stay with him and Pete, and she was going to accept the invitation. And then after Patrick got the letter, I was going to write a scene where he and Pete go to the opera, and then they were going to go riding together. (It’s a fic with a lot of action, as you can tell lol.)

So I sat down last night to write the scene where Patrick gets his sister’s reply. And here I should reveal another of my rules when writing: I try to never summarize or paraphrase dialogue. I find that dialogue is where characters reveal the most about themselves, and I would miss out on so much learning about them if I just wrote “They ordered food” instead of really debating how they would order, what they would order. Think about the date scene in “Culmination,” when they go to the Hard Rock Cafe, and they have the whole conversation about vegetables in nachos. Originally, in my head, that scene was just “they have dinner,” but I paused to make myself think about what they would have. It’s easier to just skip over that bit, but when I think back on my stories, I feel like it’s those bits where all the work of the love story happens, it’s that conversation about nachos that really tells you that they’re having a great time with each other. If I don’t feel like writing what they had for dinner, that’s fine, but rather than paraphrasing it, I would just time-skip over it and get myself into the next moment I felt was important enough. I guess, in my view, if it’s so important you can’t skip it, then it’s too important to paraphrase. 

So, I couldn’t just say, “Patrick got a letter from Megan accepting his invitation.” I had to actually sit and write Megan’s letter. And then when I sat and wrote Megan’s letter...it didn’t go at all the way I thought it would go. It ended up telling me something about Megan I hadn’t anticipated, and then that triggered a reaction in Patrick I hadn’t anticipated. And so, just like that, I threw out the window the vague plans I’d had for the scene and what was to come. This is what I mean when I say I can’t outline. I don’t know -- I never learned the skill of -- how to predict how characters are going to react *until I actually write them reacting.* In my head, this was a nothing, throw-away scene, just to get some exposition out of the way before the opera and the next part of the “plot” kicked into gear. And instead now there were all of these unresolved issues I’d uncovered that everyone was going to need to deal with.

So forget the opera. Or rather, push it way back. Because clearly Patrick was going to have to have a conversation with Pete well before the opera. But where was Pete? I hadn’t really given much thought to where Pete was, tbh. So now I had to. Pete, I decided, was in his office with Brendan. A fateful decision because a disagreement between Brendan and Patrick is another loose thread of plot in this story, and so having Patrick go in search of Pete also unexpectedly propelled the Patrick/Brendan storyline forward in a way that I had totally not been anticipating at all.

So then Pete and Patrick had an emotional conversation and at the end of it Pete proposed they go for a ride because he thought they needed to get out of the house. Makes perfect sense, Pete. Good idea. This would flip the timing of the opera / riding scenes, but that doesn’t matter, there was nothing going on in those scenes.

Except.

When Pete proposed they go for a ride, Patrick had to say that first he had to write back to his sister, because he *had* to, given the conversation he’d just had. So Patrick told Pete to go on ahead and he would catch up.

Which suddenly meant that Pete would be out riding by himself instead of with Patrick, which gave me a perfect opportunity to have him run into a particular person I’d been trying to get Pete to talk to and had just assumed I’d eventually just have Pete manufacture a reason to go call on that person. But now, suddenly, I had the perfect opportunity for Pete to encounter that person, *and without Patrick,* which was a vitally important part that I needed for Pete’s conversation with the person. And Pete being without Patrick felt much less contrived than my vague plan which was for Patrick to decide not to go on calls with Pete because he wanted to work on his music or something.

So, this is all to say: I think other people might have been able to figure all that out with an outline, without having to write the scenes out first. But I just would not have been able to. There is no way I would have uncovered all of the character-driven ins and outs of the situation in the abstract. I had to make myself write it. This is why I make myself write *all* of those moments, because I need to reveal to myself what the characters are thinking, and I know no other way to do it. I have never been able to accomplish it without writing it. And then, having written it, I have to trust that the characters know their stories better than I do. And, honestly, that has always been true. I have only ever led myself astray by fighting against them. They have only ever pointed me the right way when I let them.

Buying stuff was always expensive with a party of 13 and more friends on the way. Almost everything had to be doubled, and the meat had to be tripled. When throwing a party, everyone is required to provide a dish.

You didn't seem to mind; after all, you weren't paying, so you just chilled on the cart while you watched Mingyu placed the goods in neatly.

You told Mingyu to grab a specific chip as you walked to the chip aisle, and he furrowed his brow.

“What are those? I've never seen them before.

"Dokyeom likes them," you blurted out without a second thought. As you mentally processed what you had said, you stared at him with wide eyes.

Shit.

“When they're not there, Dokyeom and Soonyoung get upset.” You shook your head and scooted by him, tossing two bags into the overflowing shopping cart.

“Oh-okay I guess you can get them.”

As you pushed the cart toward the cashier, you mentally slapped yourself in the face. You were certain that you would not crack.

The ride home was silent as the only noise was the continuous taps from Mingyu's fingers on the wheel.

Mingyu called wonwoo on his phone as he drove up to the dorm and asked him to help with the groceries.

As you heard Mingyu pout over the phone, he refused, and not even minutes after, wonwoo is strolling down the driveway on his way to the car.

“You shouldn't even have picked up I know I wouldn't"  Wonwoo pushed your shoulder and chuckled at your humor. “I know”

“Heyyy I'm right here,” Mingyu began to sulk as he observed his sister speaking without him.

You and wonwoo both chuckled as you gathered your belongings and began walking away from Mingyu.

The days went by slowly as you reached the door. It was time to leave the house. You grabbed a jacket and purse. Today, the boys went to Hybe for a quick practice session before heading out for the weekend.

Because you are such a good friend and thoughtful person, you decided to buy them a few drinks as a gift. It wasn't anything special, you didn't want to see anyone, noo.

It took some time to order everything, especially with the large number of 13 items. Since you've known each other for most of your lives, the drinks on the list haven't changed. Ice Americanos and Frappes were the most popular drinks.

As soon as you arrived at the Hybe building, you swiftly grabbed the bag containing the drinks and proceeded to their floor. You finally made it to their practice room after thanking the employees for their assistance.

Slowly pushing the door open, you drew the attention of almost everyone as they turned to face you. As a number of them raced over to you and took the beverages from you, smiles crept across their faces.

As they sipped their drinks, the room was filled with thank yous and hellos.

The voice of an angel said, "Thanks again, y/n." He gave you a short smile before returning to his practice. Oblivious to people around you, words spilled out.

“Fuck, he's so attractive.”

“Whose good looking?” As you slowly turned around, you heard a voice speaking to you from behind you.

Fuck

It's Boo Seungkwan. He smiled at you as he grabbed a drink from your hand. He cocked his head as he sipped it, and his eyes widened.

“Don’t tell me you said dokyeom is good looking, no fucking way.”

As you coughed to relieve the high tension in the air, you started to mentally sweat.

“That's insane, I said the room was in good condition," you said as you slapped his shoulder and shook your head.

Come on, y/n, that didn't even make sense.

“You know you're not going to fool me, y/n?” Afraid that someone would find out, you dragged him into a back room and locked the door behind him

“Shit..shit..shit. If you tell anyone, I swear I'll -

Laughing, before raising his eyebrows after taking a sip of his americano, he cut you off.

"You're right, this is important information. But you already know that I'll keep my mouth shut about the situation. I don’t even know what we’re talking about right now.”

Seungkwan heard dokyeom announce that practice had resumed as the door opened. Before he left, he smiled at you and waved goodbye.

“Y/n and dokyeom in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G. As you were about to leap across the couch to silence him, he jumped up and ran out of the door laughing.

All of a sudden, your mind was filled with confusion and paranoia.

It became increasingly difficult to watch them practice as the session progressed. Your thoughts were not positive, and your attitude was slowly deteriorating.

Imagining the worst-case scenario. You paced in the back room when you heard a knock at the door. As you mentally prepared yourself, it caught you off guard. While walking side by side, Hansol and Seungkwan were whispering.

“Did they know?” You didn’t want anyone to find out so you ran, and didn’t stop running. To avoid society, you hurried out the door after saying a quick goodbye to the boys.

The goodbyes were not even heard as you hurried out of the Hybe parking lot without looking back. In a small group, information spreads quickly. And he was bound to find out.

Flushed and worried, you staggered into the dorm room. You knew your secret was going to get out eventually. In the case where Hansol and Seungkwan knew, Joshua is likely to know.

And since Joshua is close to the older boys, Seungcheol and Jeonghan know. The news would then spread to Hoshi, and then the entire performance team would be in the know.

The only remaining candidates are Mingyu and dk. If Mingyu finds out, it's game over for you at that point.

There was no point of living any more. Having completed a full loop of the house, you had come to your room for the final time. You slowly melted to the ground and fell out.

Dokyeon is more likely to know if Mingyu knows.

"What went wrong?" Unable to control yourself as you rolled around the floor, you erupted into a tantrum.

You sat up and shook your head, "I'll just have to leave the country," you said. "Man, you're so smart. Your plan y/n is fantastic."

You ran to your room, grabbed your suitcase from your closet, and began tossing things into.

No need to pack everything since you were only going to be gone for a year. As soon as your adrenaline slowed down, you began packing.

(A few hours later)

You were relieved when your clothes fit into your luggage when you had finally done packing. You were on your way now, and as long as it wasn't here, everything was good.

“Ah, I figured it out; now let's book it.”

When you approached the door, you unlocked it, and we were greeted with a pleasant surprise.

You walked up to the door and opened it, where you were greeted by Mingyu and his gang. Outside the door, you could see him, hao, dk, and wonwoo. They stared at you as they looked you up and down, perplexed as to why you appeared to be departing.

“Um, what is going on and where are you going?” Mingyu reacted with a rejoinder of his own.

Your throat felt as though it was clogging up, and you began sweating furiously under your armpits. Thank god for hoodies.

“Well, I was simply going to visit a friend's house,” you explained.

You knew he wouldn't believe you; he knew most of your friends, and they didn't live that far away for you to be carrying that much.

“First, that's a lie, and second, I need to speak with you, so your "buddy" will have to wait.” You sighed and closed your eyes.

Your escape had to wait.

Mingyu took your suitcase and slid it near the door, while the other members shuffled awkwardly into the room. While the other lads sat in the living room, Wonwoo went to his room.

“Maybe I could escape now?”

“What did you say y/n?” minghao said as he glanced at you.

You waved your hand in front of them and did a walk of shame to your room as you physically and mentally prepared yourself for whatever Mingyu had to say.

So much for your crush now.

Mingyu sat on the edge of your bed, arms crossed, staring at you.

“Sit down, he patted the bed on your side before lightly coughing.

"Some rumors have been going around, so I wanted to clear the air."

Seeing what he was about to say made your heart race, and you couldn't take it any longer. Does anyone else hear their loud banging, could Mingyu hear it?

You leapt to your feet and shouted at him before apologizing on your knees.

What a sight to see, a grown ass woman on her knees apologizing to her twin brother.

“I apologize; I should have told you first, but I was afraid you'd tell him. That's why I kept it a secret and plus dating a member of seventeen. That's dangerous enough-“.

Mingyu's "WHAT" cut you off.

You came to a halt as he got up, slowly staring up at him.

“Wait, weren't we discussing my crush on Dokyeom or something else?” Worries began to creep in as sweat began to accumulate on your brow.

“What the fuck, you have a crush on do-?” you exclaimed as you jumped to your feet and tackled Mingyu to the ground.

“Don't say it so loudly; he'll hear you.” As Mingyu began to pace around the room, as he pushed you off of him.

You could see his anger as he panicked, and his small rage tantrum was truly uncomfortable because he couldn't communicate his ideas to you because he was afraid of his companions' sensitive ears.

He pointed to the door and said, "Wait, so you do have a crush on him." You sighed, shaking your head.

As he walked away from you, he had another outburst.

Everything is now turning to shit, this was your only chance.

“I have to escape” you said as you dashed out the door and to your suitcase. Mingyu was standing behind you, staring at you in terror.

It wasn't in the plan for you to fall on him, but it was still nice. Focus y/n.

“I’m sorry, dokyeom; it was my fault. I didn't realize you were there. “Are you okay?” As you extended your hand to him, you pushed yourself off of him.

“Yeah, I'm OK, are you okay?” he asked. You've had quite a tumble.”

“Yeah I’m good, I live with a clumsily brother so I’m fine”

“Hey!"

You swiftly let go of each other and placed your hands behind your back as you became embarrassed.

“Hey, Seungcheol texted the group chat and said he wants to go out to eat. He said whoever can come.”

The boys instantly got ready as they wanted to eat, food is a great scapegoat. As you saw them exit the dorm, you took a step back and found your way back to your room.

“Is leaving still an option?” you murmured into your pillows, plopping your exhausted body on your bed and overthinking life.

You rolled over and looked at the clock, which reads 9:30 a.m.

You turned over in your bed, unable to yell, and trudged to the bathroom to make yourself presentable.

“What have you gotten yourself into, y/n?” You stripped off your clothing and stepped into the hot water after turning on the shower.

You didn't spend much time in the shower, but today you were engrossed in how your plan had devolved into this ordeal.

Resting your head on the tile as the hot water traced down your back, you contemplated on what the HELL you were going to do.

*BANG BANG*

“Y/n hurry up, we have to prepare.”

Hearing Mingyu's voice drew you back to reality as you turned off the water and got out of the shower, unlocking the door and letting him in.

“Hey, no snarky remark?” he said as he watched you walk to your room with your head down. You ignored him as you closed the door and prepared for the party.

It didn't take long for your calm disposition to be noticed, since you were the outspoken one. Even if you tried to fake it, it didn't work out.

You grinned as you walked through the background of Seungcheol and Jeonghan shared housing, looking at the celebration.

There were groups of people near the pool, at the grill, and even by the chairs, as you could see.

“Hey, bring the food inside; I'll take the meat to cheol,” mingyu said, shaking your head as you picked up the bags and headed to the kitchen, where you recognized some familiar faces.

“Y/nnnnnnnnn, heyyyyy, I’ve missed you.” When you saw her, you put the bags on the counter and hugged her, smiling into her embrace.

“It's great to see you again, yeji; how are you and the rest of the group doing?” Are the others here?” As she led you back outside, she interlaced your hands in hers.

You saw dokyeom and a few other people descend the steps before you left, as he waved and gave you a quick glance.

As you reach for a drink from the cooler, your heart begins to race. Something had to be turned off if you wanted to make it through the night, and this was the only way.

You took a sip and coughed loudly as you followed Yeji to the poolside.

It was going to be a long night for you.

As you and a group of individuals began to dance uncontrollably, the effects of the alcohol in your system began to show as you staggered to the grill.

“HeEeeyyYY, Wheeeere d'ya think yeeeeer goin’?” you slurred, jabbing a finger into seungcheol’s back

The other members laughed as they glanced at you, plainly detecting your intoxication.

“I forgot how drunk you can get, so why don't you take a break,” your overprotective brother says, making you scream within.

He always did this.

Gerroff me!” you said. “I’m ash sober ash ’m gonna git. And nuffink I - wait wait wait - nuffink you can do ‘boutit.” As you ambled back to the kitchen without so much as a hiccup in their direction, they laugh.

As you struggled to reach the door, you fell forward and were grabbed by a hand. As he lifted you from your imminent doom, his hold felt warm. With your eyes enlarged, you focused on the individual and stared at his face.

As you grabbed on to him, your words tumbled out of your mouth, “Ohmygoshimsosorry.” He drew you closer to him by taking your hands in his.

Saying your heart was racing was an understatement, it was literally pounding out of your chest. You were hand in hand with your crush, who you believed was exceptionally attractive and talented, and you wished he knew more about your sentiments or could somehow fill them.

But you know no huge idol like him would go for you. Feeling that made you sober up real fast as you felt your arm being pulled upstairs, you had no idea where you were going but it looked like someone's room.

Dokyeom eased open the door as he sat you on the bed and went to get some water from a little fridge. He handed it to you and sat next to you.

“Thanks”

“No problem, also I've been trying to talk to you all night but you appear to be occupied.”

As you took a sip of water, your heart began to beat faster; “waitttt, we donthavetotalk. Let’s dance! As he chuckled at your erratic movements, you began to wander around the room, pulling your hands into yours.

The alcohol was definitely making its way out of your system.

As he spun you around, his body in tune with the music, the bass of the song could still be heard. Even though this felt like a dream you didn’t quite care at the moment. Was it because you'd finally met the boy from your dreams, or was it because he wanted to meet you in person?

Your connection with him got stronger by the second, as did your heartbeat, which began to rise steadily with it. You couldn't keep stalling any longer; you needed to listen to what he was saying.

“I think I'm sober up for now,” you said as you let go of his hand.

Dokyeom chuckled before tossing his head back, “I didn't realize you could move like that” he said as they sat back on the bed, a little closer than before.

“I guess I learnt a few things along the way when you're friends with the best dancers out here.” As you finished your sentence, he peered into your eyes, making no sound as the room fell silent.

“Soo, what did you want to talk about?” you awkwardly state to relieve some tension in the air.

“I don't know how to explain it, but I kind of heard your "secret" as it passed through the practice room, and I simply wanted to be the first one to tell you about it because-

Your heart stopped pounding as your world came crashing down around you. You didn't want to hear it; the rejection; you'd rather live in your fantasy world, where you don't have to worry about anything. It wasn't true if you didn't hear it.

“Wait, if you can't reconcile those feelings, don't say anything; just let me go.” They're probably curious about our whereabouts anyway.” And with that, you stood up and walked towards the door, but you were pulled back by his hand.

He kissed you as swiftly as his hands linked with yours. You were taken aback at first by his passion, but you regained your calm and reminded yourself of what was going on: he was really kissing you, and you were really kissing him, and the rest of the world was inconsequential.

You were chilling on the outside while shouting for joy at the top of your lungs on the inside, as if your inner child had been set free. You had to be sure if this was a dream or if it was happening in real life.

“Ouch”

“Why did you do that?” Dokyeom asked as he gripped your arm in his.

“I had to double-check that I wasn't dreaming; this isn't the first time something like this has happened to me.”

“So you're saying I've been in your dreams?” he laughed as he cocked his head to the side and placed his hand in yours.”

You smacked your forehead and shook your head, realizing you couldn't get out of this one, and now he knew you fantasize about him. You didn't mind because the lad of your dreams was right in front of your eyes.

AND HE WAS HOLDING YOUR MF HAND. It was clear that your diary needed to be updated.

Stopping at the door, you placed your palm on his chest and worriedly stared at him.

“Wait, how did you find out?” 

“Well, a tiny birdie was chattering loudly about it, his name rhymes with coo,” he said as he grabbed your hand in his and opened the door and began the walk downstairs.

“Fucking Boo Seungkwan”

Midnight Cravings

so, i actually wrote most of this in july but never finished it and decided to fix it up for todays prompt bc i was feeling a lil lazy lol. and i think its one of my faves, especially the ending.

It was just past two in the morning and Aelin was wide awake. Not due to a mountain of paperwork, or a nightmare or one of her kids needing her. Aelin was wide awake because she was absolutely starving.

The type of starving it felt like she'd never eaten a day in her life. Like her stomach was going to eat itself.

Her stomach growled again, louder than before, and beside her, his voice muffled, Rowan asked, “Is that your stomach or the wind outside?”

“Shut up,” Aelin mumbled, as her stomach continued its song. Gods, why was she so hungry? She practically devoured the fruits in the fruit bowl just before bed, she had a healthy serving of dinner, and a large slice of chocolate torte for dessert.

But here she was, close to eating her damned pillow to sate her starvation.

Aelin glanced over towards her mate, his back to her, and she shuffled closer, resting her chin on his shoulder.

“Rowan,” she started to say, but Rowan cut her off.

“I'm not going to the kitchens.”

She pouted, although he couldn't see her. “Please?” she knew that if she used her manners, then he would do just about anything.

But it didn't work. Not just yet. “There's some fruit in the bowl.”

“I ate them all.” He sighed heavily, knowing that he was losing this conversation. “Please? I am your mate, your wife, the mother of your children.”

Rowan snorted. “Really? I was starting to suspect that the three silver-haired children were Lorcan's.”

Her hunger nearly disappeared at the thought of that. “Don't be gross.” Reaching over, Aelin kissed the tip of his ear, smiling as he shuddered in pleasure as she nibbled on it. “Please?”

Rowan sighed heavily, knowing that he lost, and Aelin barely hid her smile. “I'll go,” he said. “But only if you join me.”

Her smile did disappear at that. “But the bed is so warm.”

“Exactly. If I have to leave it, so do you.”

“Fine,” she mumbled reluctantly, but quickly perked up, realising that she would be getting food. Rowan was a much better cook than her. Aelin used to have basic cooking skills, but with being Queen and then becoming a mother, she never cooked anymore and really had no need to; not with multiple cooks under the palace roof. She did try a few years ago as a treat for her family, but everything turned into a crisp and wasn't even suitable for the dogs in the kennels.

Scrambling out of bed, the Queen and King of Terrasen tied on their robes and put on their slippers. Aelin loved the sight of Rowan looking so domestic, it was ridiculous how much she loved it.

Since Isolde was only six months old and far too young to be left behind, Rowan put her in the wooden carrier to take with them into the kitchens, their movements silent as the grave as they transferred their youngest from her crib and into the crafty carrier—Isolde was the only one of their children that slept soundlessly through the night at such a young age, and loathed to be woken up. As Rowan did that, Aelin checked in on Alder in his room, their son a little over three years old, but he slept like a log and Aelin knew that he wouldn't wake up at any point when they were gone.

As they left their chambers, Aelin nearly ruined all their good work and almost woke up their other children when she bit out a curse at the sudden leg cramp that shot up her right calf. Rowan glanced at her, asking if she was okay, and after a moment she was, although she was left a little dazed at the suddenness of it all.

Aelin's legs had been cramping randomly of late, but she didn't notice anything of concern. If it continued, she would go to Magnolia and see if anything could be done about it. The last thing Aelin needed was to fall ill, she had far too many things to do with winter arriving in a few weeks. She did know that if anything was wrong with her, that she could rely on Rowan completely.

Aelin's stomach growled for the umpteenth time, the sound lasting for a good minute before it settled. Isolde fidgeted in her sleep, but did not wake.

“I think your stomach was just trying to talk to me.”

“It was,” Aelin agreed. “It said that we need to hurry the hell up or it's going to disintegrate.”

“We better do as it says then. It'd be cruel to subject Terrasen to a hungry Queen. No one should suffer as I do when you're starving.”

“You make me sound horrible.”

“You are,” he said, humour dancing in his dark eyes. “And not just when you're hungry.”

Aelin mumbled under her breath. Rowan decided to pretend not to hear her, even as he fought a smile.

After what felt like an eternity, they reached the kitchens, Rowan placing Isolde onto the counter closest to them. Aelin rushed towards the bowls of fruit, grabbing an apple and a pear, eating the fruits simultaneously. She missed the small, private smile Rowan gave her as he went to the pantry, asking her what she was in the mood for, one eye on their child. But still, she slept and Rowan for a moment, wished that all of their children had been like that, but knew that there was no point in complaining when they all slept quietly now.

“Something filling,” was all Aelin could think of to say. But after a moment decided on an omelette, filled with bacon, mushrooms, onion, red bell-peppers and carrot. As she and Rowan prepped the ingredients—with Rowan wanting his own omelette—Aelin contemplated in silence, her brows furrowed as she chopped up the carrots.

“What are you thinking about, Fireheart?” Rowan asked when he noticed his wife's expression.

“Just trying to remember the last time I was this hungry. I've been like this for at least a week and a half.”

“I've noticed. You haven't had this big of an appetite for a good number of years.”

She didn't comment on that, lost in her own world. “And my legs have been cramping lately too. I haven't injured myself. Have I been sleeping in strange positions?”

“No, you're sleeping just fine.”

Her frown deepened. “Maybe I'm just stressed for the winter preparations.”

“Possibly, I know that you worry a lot for the people during winter.” They both did, as the winters in Terrasen were brutal. Each year there was always a small number of people that passed due to the cold for a number of reasons. When those lists made their way in Aelin's hands, it always hit her hard, her guilt a palpable thing, even after Rowan would tell her that it was in no way her fault.

But that wasn't the reasons for her consuming hunger and leg cramps—Rowan had noticed the change in her scent weeks ago and when he noticed, he thought that Aelin would too. But she was completely oblivious and he didn't want to spoil the surprise, although it was getting harder each day not to say something.

However, he couldn't help but count back the weeks to the day of conception. He was fairly certain that it was when Aelin had been reading a particularly steamy novel on the window seat in their sitting room and jumped on him like they had never had sex before when he had come to ask if she was joining him in bed.

It would fit in with list of unusual places they have conceived their children. Elentiya had been in the library (either in the archives or in Aelin and Rowan's private nook, neither were sure), Norrin against an oak tree (which they discovered after they have calmed down that the Little Folk had watched the entire encounter, with Aelin becoming stuck between wanting to laugh or hide under a rock), Alder against one of the many palace chimneys, and Isolde in a linen closet.

Maybe one day they would conceive a child in their bed like most people did.

They got to cooking, with Rowan standing behind Aelin and guiding her with the wooden spoon and plating their midnight meal before it burned into a crisp. Isolde babbled in her sleep as the sounds of cooking reached her, but still slept. It wouldn't be long, however, until she woke up to be fed. Aelin placed their youngest by her feet as they sat down at the small dining table in the far corner of the kitchen where the workers took their breaks.

The smile on Aelin's face as she bit into the fluffy omelette was certainly worth being woken up in the middle of the night.

However, her fork stilled in mid-air when she was halfway done when realisation dawned on her.

Finally.

“I'm pregnant,” was all she said, her Ashryver eyes growing wide. Rowan didn't bother to hide his smile. This was why he didn't say anything. It was always worth it when she revealed those beautiful words to him. “Rowan, I'm pregnant. The last time I was this hungry was when I was pregnant with Alder and the leg cramps are from Norrin's pregnancy. And all the fruit I can't stop eating is just like when I was pregnant with Isolde. How haven't I noticed anything?”

“You've been busy,” Rowan said, reaching over to take her hands in his and kissed her fingers.

“You knew, didn't you?” Aelin asked, her eyes narrowed just slightly.

“I may have noticed.”

“You should have told me.”

“I like it better when you come to the realisation yourself,” he said simply.

Aelin shot out of her seat and sat on his lap, a pretty smile gracing her face as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, her fingers playing the the hair at the nape of his neck. Rowan wound his arms around her waist and kissed her on the cheeks, the tips of her nose, the corner of her lips and then her mouth.

Aelin hummed contentedly and kissed him back. When they broke apart, she rested her forehead against his.

“We're insane.”

Rowan laughed deeply at the sudden statement. “What makes you say that?”

“We're having a fifth baby. Lorcan and Elide only have three and I always thought that they'd have at least a dozen, but they don't and we're about to have five. That's insane. We're insane.”

“We are, but I like that about us,” he said, kissing her again. Her face was open and soft, her eyes dancing with happiness, but he still found himself asking, “Are you okay with it?”

“Of course I am, buzzard. More than words can say.” Aelin kissed him to emphasise that fact, his hand reaching down onto her belly and was content to stay like that forever. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was. She always thought that she’d just have one child, maybe two, but to have five was something she never dreamed of.

Isolde finally decided to wake up and scream her displeasure at being hungry. Aelin was off him in an instant, cooing at their daughter as Aelin sat back in her seat and fed not just herself, but Isolde at the same time. His mate was spectacular at multitasking like that.

They couldn't wait to meet their fifth child.

Rowan was surprised that his children hadn't kicked down the doors to the bedchamber with how excited they were. Even little Isolde was a ball of energy and she was by far their most quiet child. Rowan lead them to their mother, reminding them that they had to be quiet and gentle, because mama had just gone through a long process of bringing in their new sibling into the world.

They entered the bedchamber and Aelin greeted them with a tired but loving smile telling them to come meet their new sister, the kids went onto the bed, surrounding Aelin and the baby, happiness and wonderment in their eyes as they took in the little bundle of joy, her silver hair stark against her lightly tanned skin. She had opened her eyes briefly during her first feeding and Aelin had groaned playfully when she spotted that they were pine-green, muttering how of course I labour for a whole day to give birth to another you. But he knew that she didn't care if she was born with green hair and yellow eyes, Aelin loved her immensely.

“What's her name, mama?” Elentiya asked softly, carefully trailing a finger down her sisters cheek.

“Elowynn-Yrene.” Rowan would never forget the pure joy in Yrene's eyes when Aelin asked if the healer would give them her blessing to grace their child with her name, as a thank you for all the years of coming down and helping Aelin, for eradicating Erawan, and for being a great friend to both of them. It had taken them a few minutes to convince their friend, citing that the honour was far too much, but Yrene eventually said "yes".

“That's pretty,” Alder supplied, a wide smile on his face. Aelin kissed his temple and thanked him for his kind words.

Aelin moved her eyes from Alder to Rowan, smiling as her mate stood there, taking them in.

His family, their family. Never did he think he would be so blessed to have this.

His and Aelin's children; the most beautiful thing Rowan had ever seen.

Rowan went and joined his family on the bed, the smile on his face one of Aelin's favourites.
