Julian "-since it's fundamental for all the natural sciences. But I considered astronomy, too."
Emil "Oh. You spaced out on it...?"
Julian "—No. I believe the primary focus should be on solving terrestrial phenomenons we don't yet understand-"
Tumblr media
Sara "-okay, but did you know that bees shouldn't be able to fly??"
Aurora "No, that's a myth. You can't use the same calculations for airplanes and something that can move its wings."
Sara "Damn, are you sure...? I heard that from a pretty reliable source."

on some level there's nothing to this comparison but also there is. you weren't supposed to be here. the man who is in large part the reason you are here was just felled beside you and you were helpless to stop it. you feel as though you might as well have been the one felled in his stead.
they should not be here but they are! this is metatextually absurd! it is truly everything to me!

Cant remember who said this but i saw someone post about how Phineas would be able to survive Jonas dying, but not the other way around, and this is ABSOLUTLY correct and i wanted to elaborate on that.
Lets be perfectly clear here: Phineas is the reason Jonas finally left the trust. Phineas is the crux of his dissilusionment with it. Had the Trust (and Jonas) not abandoned Phineas on Midst presumably to die, i really think Jonas would have just continued to delude himself in his role as Prime Consector, convincing himself that everything he does is 'for the good of the Trust'. But all throughout s2 and 3, we watch Jonas' gut wrench with dread and horror and guilt at every mention of Phineas. Every turning point of Jonas' journey in deprogramming from the Trust is marked with a mention of his guilt over Phineas.
Phineas, meanwhile, is abandoned by the Trust (and Jonas). Hes forced to pilot his own journey of untangling from the Trust, or die trying - if not now, then certainly down the line (i think this is what he was illuding to in his conversation with Jonas. If he hadnt found purpose in escaping midst, hed have died imediatly in the tearor, but beyond that, if he hadnt recieved help from the Mothers as a result of escaping Midst, hed have likely killed himself in the process of trying to break even - a task that is evidently impossible). And he does it. Obviously theres much more he needs to work through, but he set himself on that path.
Jonas needs Phineas. Phineas doesnt need Jonas. I think if Phineas were to die, Jonas would be lost. If Jonas were to die, Phineas could find purpose in continuing to live.

it's sincerely SO amusing to me that both times we've been at the Tripotentiary mansion, formerly the Consector's mansion, during Weepe's residence, it's mentioned Spahr used to live here. i hope it continues to happen, just do it every single time we're there.
i genuinely love the narrators take every opportunity to remind us that Spahr lived in this place before he got kicked out, but they still haven't told us where he lives now. absolute best choices.
