ive been rewatching gravity falls starting this week only this time around I have access to the commentary tracks i've never listened to before and

lemme tell ya, I don't need any sort of 'confirmation' from a source on the show when it comes to my headcanons. but hearing alex hirsch describe his idea for gideons origins as a talented kid who was born a 'freak' with his white hair and generally weird nature being kinda ostracised by his peers. and then finding a promise of power in the journal and it unlocking a little evil in him. feels very validating to be like ahhh. we were on the same wavelength...

im gonna put some doodles I did of Even Younger Gideon here because, i've been comin around on changing my previous backstory to lean into the 'town darling' thing more oops haha

everyone in town loves him! well, the adults, anyway. because hes cute and funny. and he doesnt understand WHY the other kids DONT like him. (the 'real' reason is just, they're kids. sometimes kids are rude to people who are different. bullying happens.) and if his identity is built around 'everyone loves me!' then what does it mean if they dont? he can't tell anyone. then the facade will crack. his parents will be disappointed if they find out, he thinks. so he internalizes it. until it reaches a boiling point.

like, I totally get it- when i was a kid id have elaborate fantasies at school about doing something So Cool And Badass that everyone would like me or be mad that they didnt like me before and the ppl who were mean to me would have to suck it. but those stayed fantasies. gideon was given the power to make those real, and turned into a monster about it

I don't want to so I won't lol #I can tag my original I guess :P #Mama Oz #She's based on this absolutely ridiculous and darling object I found at the same place I got my new-to-me video games haha #So apparently in the 60s this specific type of - magazine rack? in the shape of a kangaroo?? was made??#Ridiculous. So ostentatious. I fell in love immediately and had to make her into a Parapluesch #Like as soon as I laid eyes on her standing there I was like ''Oh you're from Die Anstalt'' - Instantly started filling in her backstory #Mama Oz's deal is your classic Stages of Grief - in her case from losing a child #Since she's a plush she never had an actual baby but she lost Her Child if you get me - she stopped being played with #And so she projects that grief onto others and adopts them in an attempt to get Her Child back #Except if this new relationship isn't within that framework then she rejects it and goes to the next one #She doesn't really realize that she's inconveniencing them by trying to adopt them and limiting herself from forming lasting connections #Not allowing change or growth - stagnating and trying to reclaim something lost #One of my favourite parts of Die Anstalt is that each of them is shown to have flaws #They still need and are deserving of help! But their uglier symptoms aren't shied away from #Dolly and Lilo use self-harm as a coping mechanism #Sly is shown to seek out the high at times and be short and destructive #Dub takes pride in his overwork #Kroko is surly and prickly #Don't even get me started on Dr. Wood lol #So it's fun to imagine what Mama Oz would be doing to - even by accident! - harm herself or others #The whole point of helping them is for them to become their best most comfortable selves :D #I also think what's especially funny is that I've been Meaning to make a Parapluesch OC for /years/ now #I always planned for it to be a Gender Dysphoria diagnosis since that's in the DSM and I had a design and route planned and everything #No. Kangaroo magazine rack. I keep forgetting how annoying it is to watch a currently airing show with a large fanbase on tumblr. Stop tagging the ship name with silly complaints that make no sense. How is that fun for anyone who just wants to browse the tag in peace?

"Ugh Luke saying they're acting like a married couple is fanservice." A child? Saying a variation of 'Annabeth and Percy kissing in a tree, k i s s i n g' lmao please be serious. THEY ARE KIDS, teasing each other. Were y'all never teased when you hung out with another kid and your friends noticed y'all were looking a little too friendly? Oh brother.

"They're pushing Grover to the side in favor or percabeth :(" Huh? Did you read the books? Grover (i love) barely does much. If anything the show is giving him way more to do and say. The actor who plays Grover I genuinely think is the best actor out of the three, he's doing a very good job. Any Pan mention, the moment he found Ferdinand, all great scenes.

"It's not a slow burn! They're already too flirty." Once again, children. They have only hugged and even though I'm a lunatic that is reading into everything because I love percabeth... Not a damn thing came out of that hug lmao there was no nervousness, no 'how do I act around her/him now that I've hugged him oh no' type feelings. She was happy he was ALIVE. Simple.

Also the actual actors are finding their footings with each other as each episodes go by so there's a naturally progression happening both on and off screen. The actors also have said again and again they read all the books so they know their characters are endgame and probably are playing into that a bit. Maybe they don't even realize they're doing it because they were TWELVE at time of filming.

I wonder why so many people are so bothered by show-percabeth especially if they're fans of the books. This couple is the IT couple. They are hyped. Their story, what they do and go through for each other is legendary lmao so what exactly is the real issue? Do you not want parallels to happen? Seeds planted, sOME smiling??? Do you not want Annabeths found family brother who witnessed her shove Percy into the ocean just not mention he notices they seem to have gotten closer?

Very peculiar...
