Honestly I don't think I'm qualified to make this post, I just don't know if I can make coherent enough words man. But the thoughts are in there and I will try to articulate them. This is probably going to be mostly images though. anyway yeah KABRU POST.
A couple nights ago (at approximately 2:30am, lasting a little over half an hour) I had a bit of a moment about Kabru. That, too, was mostly images- most of what you see in this more concise post were presented then as well. I think my main points of the "moment" were about Kabru's trauma + self hatred, his autism and/or general otherness, and also a little labru if you'd like..
I think something easy to start with is I wanna point out Kabru's constant back and forth and conflicting opinions of demihumans and how, I believe, thats a reflection of how he goes back and forth on what he believes his purpose of living is- and the general worth of his own life. I've said it before and i've just kinda shown it in images; Kabru is "i think im a monster and it disgusts me" where Laios is "I know im a human and it disgusts me" (i could go more into the latter on another post)
the above are both from the world bible, with the left being from the section on kobolds and the right being from the section on Kuro specifically. Utaya was very near to the desert where most of the kobold population is, this is likely why Kabru is able to speak Kuro's language- he grew up around demihumans. (chapter 48 cover, kobold chapter in the world bible) I won't try to speak for how his mother or the rest of utaya felt about the kobolds but I can say that Kabru was very much othered as a child, as was his mother, purely for the way her son's (kabru) eyes looked.
I feel like its fair enough to say that both kabru and the kobolds were othered, and possibly for similar reasons (villager's seeing them as nonhuman, as monsters) and the fact that Kabru learned their language probably didn't help his case. I think his perception of kobolds (and all demihumans, subsequently himself, as he probably still views himself as nonhuman or not human enough.. deep down) was damaged by the Utaya incident. at 2:30am when I first started this ramble my main comment was that "had the utaya incident not happened kabru would have little reason to feel ashamed for his connection to monsters. and may have ended up similar to laios in that he couldve had otherkin swag" which is just a sort of silly way of saying Kabru could've learned to love the thought that he is possibly nonhuman or at least not hated himself so much for it.
in the original ramble I said, and quote, "he has been STALKING laios. laios is his hyperfixation to learn how he can ever be loved. he keeps going back and forth so harshly on wether or not he wants to kill Laios and he clearly sees his survival from utaya not as an unfortunate trauma [*] but as a necessary, deserved fate. a punishment for his mother's witchy sins, and for his sin of being non-human. to atone for it all, to apologize for being alive, he tries to better the lives of all humanity. He was set on his way to dethrone the governor of the island . do you understand? im going insane" *i also said somethings about the way he processes other people's traumas and not his own. He's able to understand and even help some people, but he struggles to process his own issues and see himself as worthy of love and life.
^some examples of Kabru being understanding of or helping others who have suffered greatly. I think its also worth mentioning that with Rin (called "Lynn" in that translation) he says "I wish there was a way to get her out of this" though he's insisted and pushed for himself to go into a dungeon;
In chapter 94, Mithrun says "The desire I had left wasn't revenge. All I wanted.. was for it to finish devouring me." and I don't feel like it's a stretch to say Kabru was in a similar situation. Mithrun sought out the demon with no plan on how to kill something like that because deep down he wanted it to end his (Mithrun's) own life, to finish the trauma it caused and kill him. I think Kabru went into the dungeon in part with the hopes that it'd kill him. That the same thing that destroyed Utaya and caused him so much trauma would just.. finish him.
I just think Kabru is a beautifully complex character, I have a lotta thoughts on him and I don't see nearly as many analysis posts for him than I do Laios (despite labru being such a popular ship)
there is no tldr for this post idk how to summarize it. do what you will with this collection of images. have fun. go crazy
fun fact the woman in the bottom left corner is his mother, she is labeled here as "witch"

Dandan x Asivia
Dubbed dansivia. Confused as to who either of these are? Hereās a Dandan comp and Asivia wise this post is close enough for now
There is a brave visionary on ao3 and theyāre so right
Ok first of all letās address the theory:
Dandan is indeed the only Laios party member not pictured here (besides Chilchuck himself but we saw he didnāt like her which would contradict this anyways). I keep wanting to add "that we know of" or some other caveat but honestly not even no, itās never implied or mentioned they had yet another party member and that makes sense since we saw the partyās inception right up to its current party composition.
ā¦ Soā¦ Mystery solved right out of the gate? I dunno, it feels weird to me to claim Dandan hates Laios, but if he kept it under wraps enough or reasoned with himself about it I could see it. Laios and Dandan were coworkers from their gold peeling days, and so when Laios left to try a career in dungeon diving Dandan joined him.
They seem very standard coworkers that get along well enough to me, far from skulls emoji energy, but yeah there is a case to be made on both overt strong dislike and repressed strong dislike ends. But maybe the true beef started after he left the party even, especially if he fancies Asivia and kept up with the partyās drama that went down with her, though the chart does imply it was the work dynamic while he was still in the party because of context. But, believing that Dandan likes her and Asivia considered getting with him like the other men of the party, Asivia would have literally sidelined Dandan to pursue Laios. And Laios doesnāt even realize her attempts at seduction? Ok yeah the hate is plausible nvm. Also we can keep in mind that this is Chilchuckās chart and he could have more insight on Dandanās feelings than the average coworker since heās his friend. It def fleshes him more out with implications. Heās professional he keeps unnecessary shit to himself. Itād be weird to me if the relationship chart was made without Kui thinking it through, or retconning it, it is the canon we get so itās interesting to ponder. Kui giving us secret romantic drama for free <3
Speaking of whatās not free. Ok maybe Dan does dislike Laios, do business introductions really cost moneyā¦ I mean I respect the hustle but. So Dandan is heavily implied to be the one to introduce Asivia to the party. The only other mage was Marcille and well we know how that went. "A real cutie". Yeah. I bet. š
This is the most interesting dansivia part to me, they did meet previously to the party, both doing what they do best, networking. Dan helped Asivia find a job, how did they meet and how did that go? What if she had an infamous reputation already, how much did they get acquaintedā¦ Thereās a lot of leeway for fun here
Gorgeous hustling but lazy manipulator that seeks a fortunate husband x slight womanizer hustling & hardworking poor guy thatās been around in business for too long to be playedā¦ Both work a lot but like to take it easy when they can. Tavern flirtations and having met while networking and "I can hook you with a job" (staring and smiling too much) and "Oh Dandan, youāre so capable and knowledgeable about the Island, could you help me out~"
Manipulator hustler seductress x laidback hustler flirtā¦ Social butterflies, streets smarts in different yet similar waysā¦ Observant x observantā¦ā¦ā¦. Sheās very harsh and drops people/her damsel act at the first second she canāt get something out of it anymore and I think heād be so into that. Dandan liking strongminded women. Women who kinda play dirty. Makes him respect them and want to pursue them helpā¦
And like, takes on Asivia differ nowadays but I do need her to mean this shit for this, this is what she's unabashedly about. She is just a woman trying to make it in this world but working peopleās the name of her game. Whatever reason you give her, she was taking advantage of Laios and trying to get a marriage with any decent profitable guy she could. She knows what sheās doing and she doesnāt look the least bit remorseful. A girl who knows what she wants and chases it, rawr ā¬
ļø Dandan voice
They both fall for each other but neither can admit it because they know itās just temporary, sheāll go look for a well-off tallman husband eventually. Messy situationship go. Can they even have a good ending together. Itās all only ever nice in the present momentsā¦ Sheāll leave he canāt offer her anything but himself and a very humble lifestyle, sheāll leave she canāt settle for that she wonāt, he knows that and itās part of why he liked her in the first place. Oughhhhh
Ohhh to be underdogs, settling for a humble life & being content with that vs unapologetically ambitious and chases that life and comfort she seeks, which in turn makes him admire herā¦ā¦.. But even if she inspires him to chase what he wants, she canāt give it to himā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦..
Putting this on blast bc theyāre great thoughts
Because Iām me Iām trying to make them reach a happy long term ending together and itās not workingā¦ Which is more fun tbh. I shall ponder this puzzleā¦
Casanova Dandan is so important to me now. Chilchuckās in a separation slump & faithfulness oath to the wind but Dandan, good friend dandan? Heās living heās thriving heās pulling
I want fics of them meeting & networking. Heās very up to the news in the dungeon goer communityā¦ All Iām saying is I can see Dandan bartering for a shot with her in exhange for information or helping her out find jobs, knowing sheās after guys to marry too š¤ I think they should flirt in a tavern. I think they should make eyes at each other over glasses and exchanging business convos and leaving it all in the implied and unspoken
Dansivia is getting too real to me
The fics are fun go read āem
#Dungeon meshi#meta#dandan#asivia#People make Chil Mickās role model/mentor figure a lot but I think Mick would like and admire Dan more#I think whereas Chil has the subtlety of a brick Dan is very social and chill and imo well adjusted with his shit together#But also Chilās had like 3 houses at least so nevermind Mickbell wants to learn his secrets and walk his path#I should do an asivia analysis one oā these days#Yes another halffoot/tallman ship sue meeeeee#For once i was converted i did not think this ship up myself!!!!!! I am innocent!!#Ship the golddigger with the broke guy yes this always goes well. Timeless love story#Dandan seeing a maneater driven by self-interest and going well you have to respect the grind ā¬

š It's jestie hours, Thistle! :)
IT IS jestie hours thank you so much!!
ok so i told you a bit already about the like thistle/laios parallel where they have the same goal of getting a dead sibling back and refuse to accept the loss (the L) and grieve, and that has me thinking about the like... contrast between them? where they are incredibly similar in this point but are perfect inverses in others. so uve obviously got laios being our protagonist vs thistle being our antagonist but its also a matter of class with laios' dad being the chief of the village who laios turns his back on and actively distances himself from VS thistle who comes from.... well he was gifted to the king and we dont even know if he had parents before this. who then gets adopted into the kings family and rises from being basically a pet to being the courts wizard and in charge of a lot of decision making etc. uve got an opposite class mobility between them (tho laios isnt as extreme w his) and u have opposite relationships w their home + fathers and such i just.. (starts spinning like microwave)
OH ALSO THE the fact that when laios talks w the winged lion its all like oooh but itd be good if YOU were dungeon master ud be a nice and virtuous dungeon master :) as opposed to the current dm who sucks ass. idk theres a comparison thats implied in that dialogue that makes me mm..... int of resting so when thistle does something its evil and he should get over delgals death already but when laios does the exact same thing its honorable and good... and thats not to hate on laios hes just living his life but the way everything is framed is fascinating everyones being manipulated in this i love it and i want that lion DEAD
another thing i was thinking about this morning (i had a thistle kinda morning due to the torture + maze posts) was how like... ok so this is because im obsessed w parallels and tragic irony and death themes so bare with me but so thistle cursed the kingdom with immortality right... and now hes well. hes asleep. hes fine. hes resting. whatever. and its like... he gave the kingdom a lifeless life and hes been given a deathless death.... right? like it mirrors each other in a way.... is this a reach. but also thistle HAS to wake up if his arc is a cautionary tale i will snap i have other mangas to obsess over for cautionary tales can we get the jester a happy ending. PLEASE. im begging if he just wakes up he can get in group therapy w laios and everything will be ok..........
in conclusion... Can you hear me say your nameāforever? / Can you see me longing for youāforever? / Would you let me touch your soulāforever? / Can you feel me longing for youāforever? (life eternal / ghost)
#i gave him so much ghost in his playlist its unreal i wanted to grab one for a quote but like.#i have so many there ill have to clean it up#OH ALSO man made object lemon demon is thistle music also#ask#rustybirdcage#thank you for this i love thistle hes everything.........#purple heart... excellent choice
