ok hear me out i love a post-shower fit like idk pick your fav to torture and he's just gotten out of the shower, has a towel wrapped around his waist (slut), the mirror is all foggy, there's so much STEAM
it's probably morning and he's about to get ready for the day which means like the usual teeth brushing, hair product, shaving, whatever but as soon as he steps out of the shower-- sneeze
ok no big deal? maybe it was the change in temperature. warm shower to cold bathroom. it happens, right? but then he's drying his hair and there's another, and another and it folds him in half
so now it's a THING. is he allergic to his new shampoo? did all the steam loosen up a bunch of congestion from a cold? who knows take your pick but whatever it is, it's becoming a Thing
(bonus points if s/o with the kink has caught on by now and is poking their head in like? uh? everything ok?) your fav continues on, determined. snuffling, sniffing, rubbing at his nose. he wipes a circle in the fogged up mirror to see himself as if looking at his face might give him a clue about what's setting him off, but all he sees is his expression crumpling up before he sneezes again
and it's just relentless. he thinks it'll taper off after a while but it just doesn't. trying to do his hair, wash his face, put on deodorant, every few seconds he's just waylaid by another sneeze. it's one of those slow but persistent fits that just will not leave him alone
also it's kind of defeated the purpose of a shower to begin with because now his face is a mess and he has to keep blowing his nose to keep ahead of it, he's leaking like a faucet, he's probably flushed from just the sheer amount of sneezes
eventually he gives up on the morning routine entirely and just sits on the edge of the tub with a handful of tissues and decides to just sneeze it out. shuddering, exhausted sneezes by that point, the ones that fold him up and even make one foot come up off the floor as he crunches in on himself
he's completely dry by now but still in just a towel, has not even made it to clothes yet. bathroom is completely de-fogged. how much time has passed? he has no idea. when he's finally done he feels like he just ran a marathon, and probably needs another shower

*Before Clover enters Snowdin, he turns around and sees gold go into the ground.
Flowey..?
Daddy?
Oh, it's nothing Rose, let's just head into town.
Ok!
*The two enter Snowdin, Clover now uneasy, thoughts going through his head.
*The two enter the store.
QC: Clover! Been a while since we had you in here.
Hey QC, how are you doing?
QC: I'm doing great, and who's this?
I'm Rose! So you know my daddy?
QC: Yeah, I do, seen him around tons of times when Martlet and him were in town.
Wow!
It was nice seeing you again QC, have a great day.
QC: Thanks Clover, now you two stay out of trouble.
Ok!
*The two leave the store and head through town with Clover waving hello to people he's familiar with.
*When Clover passes Sans and Papyrus's house Clover sees multiple familiar envelopes with the same emblem.
Holy crap, he was invited.
What?
Not important.
*Clover and Rose walk forward as a snowy fog envelopes the area.
What the-? Rose, stay close.

A Champion Time For The Heart Ch32 Postwick Home
Tumblr media
You were so done with traveling when all was said and done when you finally got back home to Postwick from your adventure with these two.
You really didn't want to go back into the Slumbering Weald. So why were you, along with these two teenagers, and Sonia walking through the foggy mist with trees almost as tall as the ones in Bellonlea and your socks wet from the morning grass? ....It was a long story. To summerize most of what happened, Piers was nice enough to just let you all take the taxi back once he caught up to you and removed his travel bag from said taxi. You were against it and would rather wait for the next train to take it back to Postwick, but both Hop and Victor wanted to take the taxi instead and it was two against one. So you had relented and climbed into the taxi with them. Although you didn't know someone already paid off the taxi driver for your ride back. Hmm. After bidding good bye to everyone you all took off back to Postwick. You wanted to wait to see if Sonia needed a ride back with you, but she insisted on staying to work with the police for a bit. Fair enough. The ride back was nothing special outside the usual rides you usually took in these things, and the two were excited and chatting like nothing had even happened. They were heroes. They should be able to celebrate that. Their reunion back home was met with uh...mixed feelings. Their moms and Hop's grandparents were SO, SO happy to see them back home all safe and sound. Apparently Sonia had called ahead and gave everyone a heads up for your arrival. They were also SO, SO proud of them for saving Galar (again-). ....But the scolding they got from them all for rushing off without telling them, not calling them enough, not visiting them when you all came back to Postwick the first time, and for Hop chasing after those two by himself was one you were glad not to be a part off. You did get scolded a bit for not giving anyone a heads up and also for disappearing on them, but you accepted their scolding and were just glad everything was ok now. And it was nice to spend the next few weeks just unwinding and helping everyone around the house. Sonia returned a little while after so happy and you concluded everything on her end was also being taken cared of. You did hear though that she was planning on making a second book based around the actions of what happened, and honestly good for her. Pretty sure Hop was going to buy a copy of that book as well. So why were you now walking in the woods?? Well it was a long story shorted in only a few sentences. You, for once, had woken up early in the morning and couldn't get back to sleep. And Silver was being restless. Moping about, whining, tugging on your pants, and you decided it would probably be a good idea for him to get out and let him get some of that fresh morning air. So after getting dressed, you all left the house and just started walking down the road, when you noticed something down the road by Victor's house. By the gate leading into the Slumbering Weald. It was Sonia. With her back turned to you and her hands on her hips, and in front of her was both of the guys looking like they had been caught red handed with their hand in the cookie jar. Confused, you decided to head over, and when you got close enough, you finally heard her scolding.
"-and on top of that it's utterly ridiculous you two would want to go in there again!," she spoke scolding them. "Don't you know that place is a protected nature preserve? No ones allowed in there. And don't you two remembered what happened to Y/n when she was in there? A flock of wild corviknight would only be ONE of the things you'd have to worry about."
"B-But YOU go in there all the time!," Hop tried interjecting.
"Because I'm a Professor Hop. I collect samples and work with the preserve to help monitor the environment and pokemon. I have clearance to go in there."
"Sonia!", you called out as soon as you were close enough for her to hear you and in response she turned her head around towards you. Raising a hand to wave at them with Silver toddling along behind you. "Hey!"
"Y/n. Hey. Good morning!," she smiled and waved back as you walked up to her.
"To you too. I heard some noise over here." You rose a brow looking over to the two boys looking back at you. "Is everything ok?"
Sonia sighed before also looking at them again. "I was going to collect some water samples from the Slumbering Weald, but I caught these two trying to climb the gate."
"We jus' want ta make sure everythin's ok," Victor assured you holding up his hands. "After everythin' that's happened we just wanted ta make sure they're doing alright."
"You mean Zacian and Zamazenta?," you asked and he nodded. "Hm." You hummed for a moment cocking your head to the side thoughfully..before nodding. "I think that's a reasonable request."
"What?" Sonia looked to you frowning. "Y/n you know first hand how dangerous it can be in there! That's no place for a couple trainers."
"I know, but we both know these two are both stubborn enough to just go anyways." You pointed out. Actually Victor usually wasn't and you had the sneaking suspicion he was just following Hop to make sure he stayed out of trouble. That was more something Gloria would be willing to do. "But if they went with us we can make sure they stay out of trouble and don't get lost. Besides, there's a stream than runs right by the Heroes' Grave isn't there? You can collect your water samples there. Plus...does it really hurt to check on it after everything That's happened?"
Sonia seemed to take in what you had said to her genuinely and gained a thoughtful face. Well her answer was an obvious yes to your idea because now the four of you plus Silver, were now walking in through the forest being lead down a path. Well you were being lead down a path. You had no idea where you going considering this would only be your second time seeing the ancient grave sight compared to the others. So you followed their lead looking around the misty place. Until after twenty more minutes of the silence the fog broke. And there it was. The absolutely beautiful sight of the ancient ruins and the running water around it. And it was then you knew you all could breath a sigh of relief. Because lying by the old gravestone, was the sword and shield. Returned back to their final resting place by the pokemon and until the fateful day they'll once again be used for good. It let a relieved feeling run through you and you smiled. Everything would be alright. Sonia took the chance to walk over towards the small stream reaching into her pocket to pull out a few test tubes as the guys walked right up to the stone monument. Silently regarding the strange but beautiful place before Victor raised his camera-
"DONT!" Victor yelped as Hop suddenly grabbed his arm holding his camera before it reached his face.
"Geez, Mate. What's your bloody problem?", Victor asked a little annoyed and pulled his arm away.
"S-Sorry. It's just.." Hop reached a hand up to rub his neck looking back up at the stone structure. "..I don't think a lot of people should know about this place. You know? It'd be better if no one tried to come and disturbed this place for whatever reason. It's the reason Sonia left this place out of her book. Zacian and Zamazenta deserve to rest easy after all."...He then gazed down to the grave stone with the name long since worn out to the point no one could read it. "And whoever they are too."
What followed was a long moment of silence between the two friends as they stared at the grave stone. And Victor lowered his camera, letting it rest back around his neck limply.
"...I wasn't sure what my goal was after I failed to surpass Lee and Gloria was picked up by Kabu to train to be a gym leader." Slowly he crouched down and reached a hand down to gently lay it across the cool old stone of the ancient grave. "You guys followed your own paths and I was the only one left behind and trying to catch up. But then I went around saving pokemon along with you and Piers..." With a smile he slowly stood back up and looked to Victor. "And I realized that I could help other people. You know what, Vic? I think I've found a dream of my own finally."
Victor blinked and looked at him in interest crossing his arms. "Yeah? And what's that?"
"I want to be someone who can help people and pokemon when they're in trouble wherever they are." He smiled wider in confidence. "I think I want to become a Pokemon Professor!" Victor blinked surprised at him. "I started thinking I might when we were going around to all the stadiums to help the pokemon that were running out of control."
...Victor smiled. "I think that's a great idea!"
"Really?!"
"Aye. Ye got the smarts for it alright! I betcha could be the best Professor n' Galar."
"Well...I know I don't know enough about pokemon yet and I've got no experience for this sort of thing, but I'm gonna study a lot and learn a whole lot." He raised a fist up determined." And someday I'll become the sort of professor that you, and Sonia, and Y/n, and Glory-..Well. The sort you would be proud to know! I'm gonna take a different path than you and Glory are taking ..but I'll always still think of you guys as my true rivals."
Victor laughed but smiled happily at his friend. "There's nothin' I'd like better!"
You smiled- "Ahh! No fair." You turned your head to Sonia who, now finished collecting samples, walked up to stand next to you. Making the three of you look at her. "You to are so young and cute. I'm tearing up."
"AM NOT!!," Victor counted.
"Getting a bit weepy in your old age, eh?"
"What?! I'm still young and energetic!" Hop laughed but what she said next shocked you all. "Say, Hop. Fancy becoming my assistant at the lab?"
And in instant everyone's smiles turned to shocked faces. "....WHAT!?"
She nodded. "I've got all the books and data on pokemon you could ever want. Since you wanna be a professor someday I'll oversee your studies."
"Then I definitely want too!," Hop quickly agreed with a smile before pausing. "Only..." He rose a brow. "You sure I can really be any help to you?"
"Of course! Mind you it'll be a lot of work. Work's really piling up since I lost my first assistant."
"Wait. So what you really mean is you're offering me the position to help yourself out?"...He sighed. "Ah fine! I'll still do a bang up job!"
You giggled and smiled widely. So this is it. The part of Hop's character ark where he got inspired to become Sonia's assistant and eventually a professor of his own. And you opened your mouth to congratulate him...Or ..You would've if a bunch of clapping hadn't sounded behind you. Making all four of you turn your heads, and stopped stunned at the four other newcomers standing there.
"LEE!?," Hop asked wide eyed.
"Those two bloody thieves!?," Victor asked angrily.
"Piers?", you added in confusion seeing the rocker there. What was he doing here? You thought he went back to Spikemuth.
Standing before you in the Slumbering Weald was in fact, Piers. The guy looked as bored as usual..But what was he doing here?! Next to him was in fact also those two bloody thieves. And next to them, was Leon. Wait...What were ANY of them doing here was the better question but before any of you could say anything Sordward spoke.
"Well, well, well. Now that certainly was a refreshing back and forth, Eh wot?," he asked hands returning to his sides.
"That really touched my heart," his brother added.
"Huh? Sordward and Shielbert?," Sonia asked clearly dumb struck and not sure how to react as you other three either stood there or looked at one another not sure what to say. Her eyes trailing the men that stood before her. "With Piers? And even Lee?" She shook her head not quite believing what she was seeing. "What are you lot doing here?!"
"No need for noisemakery, Young Lady," Sordward scolded her by lifting a finger and wagging it at her (now) scowling face. "We have come to meet with the young party."
"They didn't get the chance to properly apologize yet," Piers explained and you gawked at him as it still confused you before he sighed again. "As a part o' their punishment, they're being forced to properly apologize to everyone they wronged in person. We're only half way done. Jus' figured we'd stop by 'ere and get all you lot out o' the way. Magnolia sure gave 'em an earful."
"And I'm here to keep an eye on them," Leon confirmed crossing his arms and giving the two brothers a look. "They did technically descend from the original kings, but that doesn't give them any excuses for what they did." The two nervously fidgeted under the Champion's gaze before he looked back to Hop with that bright smile. "But it seems you lot have been up to all sorts of things while I was stuck in Rose Tower trying to help take care of what Mr. Rose left behind." ..he reached behind his head and rubbed his neck. "And something that's going to be revealed next year. It's still a work in progress."
"You've no idea!," Hop frowned pointing an accusing hand at the brothers. "Those two were forcing pokemon to dynamax all OVER the place!"
"AND!", Shielbert raised a hand cutting Hop off as he glared at the two of them. "For that we are really, truly sorry. Look at our sorriness." He pleaded holding a hand to his chest dramatically. "We thought only of ourselves and brought harm to innocent pokemon. We have truly caused a large amount of trouble. You helped us even though we did those awful things. You are so worthy of the throne, you could say it's a dynamax sized amount of worthiness!"
You just...stared. Beside you the guys gave each other a look and you heard and saw Piers give an eye roll and groan. These guys were sure uh....dramatic with their words. But you guessed getting a dramatic apology was better than none..Maybe?
Sonia sighed and literally facepalmed. "I already told you two. Zacian and Zamazenta are the real royalty."
"Incorrect!," Sordward objected, "We have abdicated the title to them! There are no other rulers!"
Sonia only groaned more into the palm rubbing her temples. Honestly if you weren't so confused and surprised still that probably would've been your reaction too-...Hang on a minute. You gave the two a suspicious look. How'd they get here in the first place?
"Hey. That reminds me." You successfully gained all the attention. So you pointed at the two brothers. "How the heck did you two know where the grave was in the first place?" Everything fell silent and the brothers' eyes went wide before they both looked at one another in surprise. It was like no one else ever thought of that before. "Hop and Gloria was lead here by Zacian and Zamazenta, Sonia found it by accident because she's allowed to be in here, and this is the first time Victor or I have ever been here. And I'm guessing you two also lead the way for them too since Piers wouldn't even know about this place, and Leon gets more lost than a blind magikarp in the desert. No offense, Lee."
"None taken," Leon replied.
You crossed your arms staring at the surprised brothers raising a brow. "You two don't give off the vibe of adventures so I doubt you two found it by accident, and Sonia didn't put the location in her book so you couldn't have figured it out from that either." You said knocking out any other possibilities. "So how did you two even know where to look to find this place?"
"Yeah." Hop frowned deeper at them crossing his arms. "How DID you manage to find this place? Are you like some super evil geniuses or something?"
Again both brothers looked at one another again before Shielbert spoke, "Should we tell them, Older Brother?"
Sordward hummed, face gaining a thoughtful expression, before he nodded with a sigh. "We might as well. After all this question was bound to be asked of us sooner or later. We'd be in more trouble if we didn't supply an answer to the question."
Shielbert nodded and you all watched as he reached his hands up. One grabbing his red suit jacket and pulling it open to reach his other hand into the jacket and after a moment, pulling out what looked like a small ...book? When Shielbert held it up it was indeed a book, but a very old one. The brown leather cover looked a little wrinkled and hand a tear or two from so many years of being handled and the paper looked yellowed from age, and it looked no bigger than just a small novel from the bookstore. All of you stared at it for a second before again Hop asked.
"A book?"
"Not just any book, Young Man!," he scoffed sounded just a bit offended Hop would refer to the book as what it was..A book. "It's a precious family heirloom! One that's been passed down in our family for generations!"
"Also conveniently for us, found tucked away in our attic in a large chest during spring cleaning."
"...Ok. But like WHAT is it specifically?"
Sordward sighed reaching a hand up to rub his forehead. "Oh I guess we have to be specific for the likes of others." A few people looked annoyed at his comment but he replied bluntly before anyone could say anything. "It's a journal written by the first King of Galar of course!"
"Our very own great, great, great, great, great...another dozen or so greats grandfather himself! Passed down by his descendants for generations until it somehow became lost and ended up in the attic locked away for safe keeping."
"That is until we just happened to find it clearing out everything to turn the attic into a luxury suite. Who knew we would uncover such a lucky find?"
"Yes," Shielbert agreed, "It has everything from the location of the hero's last resting place to Zacian and Zamazenta's appearance to the names and family tree of our kingly ancestors entire family line."
"Stopping at our dear Great Great Grandmother Swordenia. After her passing, all of her old belongings were just stuffed away in the old family mansion. We believe the journal was lost during that movement and forgotten somewhere between her and grandmother, but we'll be happy to fill in the rest of the blanks in our noble family tree later."
There was silence as everyone just stared at them wide eyed. Because...well what were you supposed to say to something like that? You all just continued to stare at the book being held. Sonia especially seemed to be staring at it in interest and newfound excitement. But this time it was Victor's turn to comment something.
"But I thought there was two kings," he said..before shaking his head. "No. Scratch that. There was definitely two kings accordin' ta the ancient tapestries an' the statues hidden behind the mural n' Stow-o'-Side."
"Ah! You would be correct about that," Sheilbert confirmed before wagging the book in his hand, "The two original heroes did go on to be crowned the first kings due to their bravery but only one went on to marry and continue the royal lineage. According to the journal his other royal highness resigned himself to a small town to hide and guard the sword and shield of the ancient pokemon."
"How do we know that's the truth?"
As if to answer them one of the brother's pointed to the singular grave stone popping up from the ancient structure. "One stone for one person. The answer to your question is literally feet in front of you. And of course, it's literally written in here. The two were great friends after all."
"Can I-.." Both the brothers paused when Sonia, mesmerized held her hands out towards the book half way. "C-Can I look at it?"
There was silence again as the brother rose a brow towards one another as if telepathically talking to one another before they looked back to her. "...You want to just look?" She excitedly nodded making them hum. "Wweeell....I guess you may. It would be the least we can do after stealing your research material. But I'll have you know this is a precious family heirloom! If there's so much as a tear on it from you be prepared to be sued for damages!"
"That's a risk I'm willing to take!" She excitedly held her hands up to take the book, and there was a silence. The brothers looked at each other for a long silent moment before Shielbert slowly held out the book towards Sonia's eager hands. You watched as she took it excited glee washing over her face as she immediately opened it. And flicked a few pages over eyes sparkling more with each passing page she flipped. "This...T-This is incredible!" She announced stopping flipping through a few pages. "A written document by such an important historical figure....I so want to investigate this further!"
"Hey, hey!," Sordward pointed, "Historical document or not it's still our property! You can't just take it."
....She gave them a flat look. "Says the ones who stole from us?"
"...Erm. W-Well *ahem* From a logical point, Ma'am. You can't examine someone's property without their permission. It's something, whether you believe us or not, is near and dear to our family. Just as your lab is important to you. You wouldn't let someone just come into your lab and just tamper with your research would you?"
"Again. You guys DID tamper with my research when you stole those Wishing Stars." ..She took a moment looking between the book and them. "But I would still like to examine this. Would you two be up for a compromise?"
"Hhhmmmm...Well I suppose we may be able to work something out. But we want it in writing!"
"...You mean like in literal writing?"
"Yes," both answered her.
Sonia blinked before sighing and shaking her head. "Fine. We can go to my lab and write an agreement up real quick."
"Yeah." Leon cleared his throat before motioning to Piers who through all of this remained silent. "Hey, Piers. Why don't you go ahead with Sonia and escort them to the lab? I'll catch up with you later after I take care of the other reason we came here."
Piers sighed but nodded. "Sure. I can do that real quick."
"Of course you will. If we divide and conquer it'll make things much faster. Y/n!" You blinked at Leon who smiled brightly at you. "Can I..t-talk to you for a moment? Don't worry about us." Leon shooed Hop and Victor after Sonia and Piers. "You guys just go on ahead and I'll catch up. Ok?"
The way he said it didn't sound like a question, but so nodding you started forward towards him. What ended up happening was the two brothers and Sonia walked in front of you two as Sonia bombarded them about the journal in her hands and the two were more than happy to (brag-) answer her questions. Piers following behind sighing with Hop and Victor right behind him wit you and Leon bringing up the rear. You had to pick up your pace to keep up with Leon's long strides as he followed but you managed to catch up with him with Silver chirping and easily keeping up behind you.  With a raised brow you turned your head back to Leon who seemed to have been patiently waiting for you to notice him because he paid attention to you as soon as you looked at him.
"What are you doing here?," was the first thing out of your mouth. Which made him sigh and gesture to the people in front of you.
"Just as I got finished with all the tasks assigned to me, I get a call from the new Chairman,'' he explained with a long sigh, "Since I'm the champion she wanted me to take care of this little problem, and when she heard Piers was one of the ones who helped take them down she wanted him to tag along and make sure they didn't get up to any trouble while we made them carry out the first part of their punishment."
"No offense but making them personally apologize is a pretty small punishment compared to what they tried to do."
"That's what I thought. But then I learnt what else the Chairwoman's making them do." he huffed a chuckle. "They're being made to personally fund Sonia's research here on out as well as paying damages for the roof in Hammerlocke to be fixed."
"....That's it? Just apologizing and paying for damages?''
"There's more." He smiled just a bit wider. "Sonia's research costs a pretty penny. Worth it but the Chairwoman doesn't really have the resources to give her what she needed to fund the entire thing properly after fixing Rose's escapades." He chuckled a bit more much to your confusion. "They're going to have to hand over some of their own company to pay for it. Turns out those fellas own a whole lotta businesses in Wyndon and a couple other places. You should've seen the looks on their faces when the Chairwoman said she was gonna turn their own beach house in Hulbury into a loading deck for freighters and their mall in Wyndon into an affordable community college."
You blinked. "Really?" He nodded and you smiled. "Wow. I haven't met this woman and I already like her."
"They're also paying for the reconstructions for the places out of their own pockets."
"Ok. Now I REALLY like this Chairwoman. How come I've never met her before when I saw Rose?"
He shook his head. "While Rose was busy with his 'rescue mission' he kept her on the back burner by giving her mountains of paperwork and petty work no one else had to do but had to be done. Poor woman was worked to the bone. Then having to play clean up after. She has her hands completely full, it's no wonder she asked us to handle this for her. But this works out for her since it fixes a few of the minor problems while she tackles the big ones."
"Poor woman. No wonder you agreed to help. How many people do you have left to make them apologize to?"
"Just one other," he assured you. "Thankfully. You all were the second to last stop then it's off to see Rai and then it's back to the Chairwoman for her to decide if anything else is gonna be added to their long punishment list."
"Maybe you should tell her to tell them to let Sonia keep that book for as long as she needs for her research."
"Hm. Tempting but I'm not if I should take something that's important to their family." He smiled and then his eyes lit up as a thought hit him. "Oh. I also wanted to mention." You blinked as he smiled widely at you. "I heard from Hoppy you're still renting the basement room from Mum. Does that mean you haven't decided on traveling around yet?"
To his relief you shook your head no. "Nah man. I don't wanna do anymore traveling. I think I'm actually going to stay in Postwick for the time being."
His eyes lit up immediately. "REALLY!? I mean-" he coughed and looked away. "Oh yeah, yeah. I can totally understand that. Traveling's been putting a damper on me too. Which is why I've been wanting to get all of these tasks for the Chairwoman done as fast as possible....But something tells me you don't want to rent that room forever right?"
You blinked at him. "I mean-..Well yeah. I don't plan on renting your mom's basement forever. Don't get me wrong. Your family is perfect and I love spending time with them, but it was never a long term idea to me."
"Oh. Then you're planning on leaving Postwick in the future?"
"Well there really isn't any houses for sell around here so one day I'll have to look for one for sell somewhere-"
"That's great!" You blinked back to him as he smiled. "I-I mean that you're looking for somewhere more permanent b-because there's actually someone selling their house in Postwick! M-Ms. Magnolia was telling me about it when we stopped by for the two to apologize to her and Sonia!"
"Wait. Really?"
He nodded. "Just a little ways down Route 2 past Sonia's house. Old Man Harry's selling his house!" Your eyes widened even more as he nodded. "Yeah! He's retiring and wants to move closer to his family so he's putting his house up for sale! It's down the road aways from everyone but it's still close enough to your job a-and it's really spacious! I-It's just a suggestion though!" He clarified holding up his hands. "I-I was just trying to be helpful!"
"Are you kidding me!?" You smiled wide. "That's great! But I'll have to think about it. I make no promises."
"It's no pressure!" he assured you with a small smile. "J-Just heard it from M-Magnolia and thought you'd be interested."
"I don't know what'd I do without your help. Leon, you're a life saver."
He chuckled more rubbing his neck. "W-W-Well I try to help when I can!  His cheekbones flushed just a light shade of pink and he cleared his throat again. "Boy Nessa is going to be surprised."
"Nessa?" You rose a brow at him. "You mean Nessa the gym leader?"
He nodded. "Y-Yeah. Hitched a ride with us from Hulbury. Wants t-to talk with Victor back there."
You looked surprised again at him. "She wants to talk to Victor? Why?"
"You'll see when we get there."
When you all finally exited the gate separating Postwick and the Slumbering Weald, you decided to stop and wait by Mrs. G's home to wait for the others as Piers left to finish escorting Sonia and the doofus duo back to her lab. Plus you were interested now. What was Nessa doing here? In fact where was she? You certainly hadn't seen her with any of the others, and you didn't see her lingering around anywhere here now. Well you didn't have to wait long because Leon and the two guys showed up just a few minutes later.  Apparently Leon had explained to the two boys that Victor had a very special visitor wanting to see him waiting at his mother's house. And you had a good idea of who it was. So, you all walked right up to the house, Victor opening the door back and inviting you three in, and who else would be waiting inside to greet you all but Mrs. G who had a bright smile on her face as soon as she saw the four of you....And someone with blue highlights in her hair. Both boys stopped and stared wide eyed at the woman who sat there and calmly stared back at them, a cup of tea was placed in front of her at where she sat at the table most likely given to her by Victor's mother. Mrs. G looked please with herself at seeing everyone there. The smile only a proud mother would give. And there was already so much Mrs. G had to be proud of. Her two children saved Galar (twice),  endorsed by the Champion himself and almost made it to the top, and on top of that both were beautiful human beings who were going on to become successful people. Gloria was officially a gym leader in training now and Victor already established a future photographer career for himself thanks to how popular his blog had gotten. But again. Why was Nessa here? And why to see Victor of all people? Well you were about to find out when Mrs. L invited you all in.
"Honey there you are!," she beamed at Victor motioning for him to come in, which he did slowly, still staring at Nessa in awe. Mrs. G also gestured towards the younger woman. "Leon told me this nice young lady is a gym leader you helped."
"Uh.." Victor finally shook his head and rested his hands in his pockets. "A-Aye. I met her once or twice. I-It's uh..N-Nice to see ye 'gain, Ms. Nessa."
Nessa nodded once. "Please. We're all friends here. Just call me Nessa."
"Um- I-...O-Ok."
She gave him a warm smile and gestured to the seat in front of her. "Please. Have a seat. There's something I'd like to discuss with you. If that's alright."
"Uh. S-Sure." He hesitated for a moment before shuffling himself slowly into a seat across from her as she smiled at him. "Um.." His cheeks lit up in embarrassment before he was able to blurt out. "I-I dunno wait ye would want with me b-but I j-just wanted to say I'm a big fan of yours! I-I mean your crew's dedication ta your shoots! They always come out amazing lookin'!"
Nessa blinked..before she busted out in a little laugh, but it wasn't a mean laugh at all. "Well, thank you. I'm happy to know I can still inspire people." She nodded. "And I can say the same for you. It's why I'm here." After staring at her for a long moment, Victor gave a small huh and she chuckled. "Leon's mentioned you to us quite a number of times."
"I...H-he has?!"
"Uh huh. He's mentioned you had a rare talent for capturing the beauty in everything. But I wasn't really sure what he meant until he showed me." Her smile turned into one of knowing. "You're the one who actually runs the 'Vic's Pics' blog on the net right?"
If it was even possible Victor's reddened even more in embarrassment and cleared his throat. Hand reaching up to rub his neck. "A-Aye. I am. S-Silly title huh?"
"I like it."
He blanked staring. "Wait..R-Really!?"
She nodded. "Mm hm. It rings a bell, and it's nice to have a name for something you worked hard on.'' She shifted in her chair to lean forward a bit a bit more serious tone to her voice. "I've seen a lot of the pictures you've taken." She nodded her head towards his neck, and it took Victor a second to realize she was gesturing to the camera dangling around his neck. "Is that the camera you used to take them with?"
She watched patiently as he blinked following her nod to his camera. "Oh! This?" He asked hands coming back to hold it. "Nah...W-Well, I me-mean yes. I had an' ol' camera that was the model before this one came out I used 'fore I started using this one since last Christmas. I actually gave away me old one."
"Really?," she asked and..Why did she look so surprised? Her eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at him. "That's just what you've been using? No lighting techniques or fancy digital enhancements?"
"I-...N-No?" He trailed off gaining a nervous look at the stare she gave him. "W-Was I supposed ta?"
"Hm? Oh. No, no," she assured him holding up a hand. "I'm just surprised is all. A lot of your photos look so professional. From what I've seen and what Leon said, I thought you were older with an entire editing system for these. I've seen you a few times but I never realized who you were until I saw the photos of battles from the gym challenges last year. You also challenged me earlier last year right?"
He nodded. "Aye. N' me twin." And he smiled. "She was amazin' battlin' against ye. I couldn't help takin' them photos."
"I see." There was..something about her look this time as she asked. "Victor right?" He nodded. "Do you mind if I ask you a question?" He nodded again. "Was there a reason you take these photos? It seems a bit more than just a hobby by the looks of things. I'd like to know why."
And the room again fell silent. Surprise washing over Victor's features like you've never seen him before and even he didn't seem to believe it at first. Because he looked around at everyone in the room, (you and Hop surprised as Leon and Mrs. G just smiled) before his look turned to his camera. His fingers running across it's smooth surface....before he sighed through his nose.
"...You'll think it's silly."
"Try me. You might be surprised."
There was definitely hesitation before he answered. "It's because my sister a-an' Hop...are amazin' people. And I jus'...w-wanted to show the world it too." He looked up and with a shaky inhale held up his camera. "An' I think everything's beautiful too." Nessa hummed at his answer making him shake a bit more. "S-Sometimes it's just...People don't always notice it. Or sometimes." Brown eyes blinked down into the lense of said camera. A darkened reflection of him staring back. "Sometimes it just needs a little help to be noticed. And sometimes that beauty needs to be remembered. An' if someone never helps it be remembered, it'll be lost forever or it'll never be told at all...." He looked back up to Nessa. A face of certainty given back to her. "That's why I do it. I'm not as confident as Gloria is an' Hop's way smarter than I'll ever be. But if there's one thing I can do to help them then it'll be to show the world what I see. That they're beautiful. E-Even if no one believes me o-or they nah believe it themselves."
Her eyes narrowed a fraction looking him up and down. "It must've been really hard to go through the entire gym challenge while also keeping up such a blog. Don't you ever think it's a little too much to do both?"
He almost looked like he winced at her words. "Sometimes but...Ah can't jus' give up on that." Reflection Victor looked back at his real world double through the camera lense. "I want ta share what I see. What if there had been something, even if it's not important that no one else woulda known. Maybe there's someone who's story deserves to be told even jus' one time and maybe not everyone would see it but doesn't everyone deserve that chance? An' everyone deserves to show their story their own way. Even if tis just one photo. One dress someone wears. One day of being in the spotlight or being famous for a hundred years...." He shook his head and looked at her. "I dunno why ye asked me but I nah care if he think my answer's crazy. I-It's what I feel."
And in that moment followed more silence as Nessa took a long moment to stare at him. Before she gave a small huff followed by a smile closing her eyes. "Leon was right. You're not like your sister or his little brother." Victor's face frowned a bit by her words but he wasn't given a chance to react before she smile back at him. "But you're still perfect. Seeing the world in such a positive light and wanting to show that so others can tell their stories and never forget what the old has to offer. That's what I strive for and what exactly I'm looking for as well."
"I-.." Victor looked unsure. "M' s-sorry but I don't follow you."
"Victor. With your permission, I want to train you to be my successor to the gym."
And his jaw DROPPED. As did the camera, dropping from his hands and thudding back onto his chest. Thank goodness he still wore it under his chest. Brain short circuting. And it took him a long moment to respond. "I-...HUH!? B-But WHY!?" He gestured with his hands. "M' n-not gym l-leader material."
"Oh I beg to differ." Victor jumped at the new voice and looked up as Leon's form suddenly appeared next to him with a giant smile. "You'd make a great a gym leader as Hop would make a great Professor."
"B-But-.." he looked between the two of them. "I-I...M' not like Gloria."
"And that's WHY Nessa chose you instead of anyone else," Leon spoke a softer tone to his voice. "That's what sets you two apart and makes you special. You're right Gloria's confident and takes pride in what she does, which makes her a great choice for someone like Kabu to train. But she can be a bit ..um.." He tried to put it nicely. "Brash and jumps to things too quickly. Which might work for someone matching Kabu's and hers fighting style but obviously that doesn't match your own. And not what Nessa's looking for. She's been looking for someone who pays attention to details and can think off them. Like you do shown by how you perceive things."
"That's right." Victor yelped again when he turned further to look behind Leon and saw Hop smiling. "You always keep a level head when things go wrong and spot the little details when no one does. That's how you saved us. Remember?'' Victor stared. And Hop quietly shuffled on his feet. "I got carried away in the moment and let my emotions get the better of me. I put everyone at risk because I jumped rational thinking and sped away. You were the one who thought of them trying to come back and take the ancient sword and kept it safe. And if you didn't, there was no way we would've been able to summon Zacian to stop Zamazenta and save everyone. Victor...You saved everyone that day by yourself. And you didn't even realize it!" Hop smiled wider. "So now on top of being rivals and best friends, we're heroes too! Thanks to your thinking!"
They were all right. Gloria and Hop were both strong and heroes in they're own right, but if Victor hadn't done what he did...Well you'd rather not think of what might've happened if Victor wasn't able to summon Zacian. But none of you cared to notice all too caught up. Gloria was a little..ok. Maybe a bit more than a little oblivious to things, but Victor caught all of that.
"But...I-I'm still not as g-good as battlin' like everyone else."
"That's because you lack confidence in yourself." Nessa said gaining his attention back to her. "But I've seen the way you fought when helping me take back my gym and have heard other gym leaders give similar stories. I personally like the way you fight, and with just a little help I think you can see that too. I know what it felt like at one point to not believe in yourself when it comes to something, but sometimes all we need is a little help from someone. So...What do you say? Want to take a chance with me?"
Victor stared at her for a long moment, as if not believing something as well special as this would happen to him. Before a sound left him which you thought was a sob at first but it was in fact a choked laugh because he gave a shaky smile reaching a hand up to rub at his eyes.
"I'd really like that a lot." He sounded like he was trying not to cry tears of joy.
Well ...everyone couldn't but smile. Including Nessa who nodded. "Well then Victor. I look forward to working with you."
"Oh. That reminds me. Before I forget-," Leon took a moment to hum, patting his pockets for something. "Let's see. Where did I put that pass?" Before he ended up fishing something from his side pocket and smiling at the small ticket like object in his hand. "Aha! Got'cha!" He held it out to Victor who blinked at him and with a sniff slowly took it from him. "I got it since I had a feeling it might help you."
he looked at the ticket embroidered with a small crown on it before looking back to Leon. "W-What's this?"
"A Crown Pass." He pointed at it. "I won't say too much since I have a feeling it'll help you if you go."
"Ye mean you're gonna have me train with someone like Gloria?"
"Not exactly, but I do believe the experience will benefit you...Buuut it does take place somewhere cold all the time like Circhester. I know you really don't like the cold but I think if you're willing to give it a try it'll be a great experience- OOF!"
Leon jumped from something latching onto him making him blink and look down, only to find Victor hugging him. ".....Thank you for believing in me."
The Champion stood there frozen for a moment before ruffling the boy's hair through his beanie hat. "I've always believed in you three. And I always will. And I'm so, so proud of you all. You're all growing up to be amazing people just like I knew you would be."
You smiled at them. At the family you saw before you. It was a pleasure to get to watch them grow so much. And it looks like they're going to continue to grow and experience things.
Eventually Leon did have to leave with Piers and the brothers after a tiring battle and discussion, and lots of writing on Sonia's part by flying taxi. Nessa leaving by the next train assuring she'd be in touch.  Not wanting to take away the attention from Hop and Victor with their families gushing over them earning an apprenticeship from Sonia an already established professor (working for the Chairwoman no less) and becoming a student to Nessa who was already famous being a model and gym leader. Until  Victor left off for ...Well wherever Leon was sending him. You weren't sure where but you trusted Leon's judgement. It took nearly a week. Victor hesitating, and packing things and procrastinating. But eventually he gained enough willpower to go through it and like with Gloria it was certainly one you would remember. You all gathered at the station as he timidly handed the station master the pass Leon gave him and pointed him in the right direction as the train arrived. Many a tears were shed and many hugs were exchanged. But for some reason Victor paused when he looked at you before boarding the train. And you were confused until he spoke.
"Thank ye."
...And you blinked. "What?"
"I said..Thank you. I-I.." he shuffled nervously. "I never got to thank you for helping me back in Hammerlocke. B-Before ye got knocked out n' sent ta the hospital."
....You smiled. "Hey. There's no need to thank me. We were all doing the right thing right? You just go and enjoy yourself. After all, it's your turn to have an adventure."
He smiled and nodded. "Yeah. Thanks, Y/n. For everything."
"Anytime." You then gestured to the train about to take off, "You'd better get going before you miss your train."
"Oh right." Victor turned. Paused..and then slowly turned all the way back to you which made you blink. Victor seemed to want to say something opening and closing his mouth and looking between you and the train as if debating whether to say something or not before just looking at you. "Hey. I should probably tell you somethin' before I go." You rose a brow. "I-I was the only one who seemed ta notice it and I wasn't sure if I should say anythin' or not..But I should probably tell ye now less I forget."
"Forget what?"
"Y/n, I dunno if ye knew or not but-.." He hesitated before just blurting it out. "Lee's romantically interested in ye!"
You froze staring at him. "......WHAT-"
"Oop! Look at that! Me train's 'bout ta go! Bye!"
And you all watched him board the train with the speed of a scorbunny running away from your frozen form. Going through the gates and up onto the train. Pausing to look back at all of you and smiling and waving. Until the doors closed. And with a couple rattles and horn blasts, the train moved moving away and down the tracks. Taking Victor with it as he went off. And leaving you standing there in shock at what he just blurted out....before you blinked.
"Wait....WHAT!?"

A Champion Time For The Heart Ch32 Postwick Home

Whumptober Day 20: It's Been a Long Day
Prompt: Going into Shock & Fetal Position
Summary: The 212th didn't get up to as much trouble as the 501st, but that usually meant that when things went wrong they went horribly wrong...
[Everyone's luck has got to run out sooner or later. It can't always be a winning streak... Also taking the opportunity to introduce my 212th medic, Canivete. She is going through it today!]
THIS STORY IS ALSO ON AO3
---
Meticulously attentive to the well being of the vode or not, not even general Kenobi couldn't conjure up miracles on the battle field. And not from lack of trying either. The 212th's Jetii did what he could. Oftentimes at the expense of his own health and safety no less.
The fact of the matter was that the 212th didn't get up to as much trouble as the 501st, but that usually meant that when things went wrong they went horribly wrong...
And that was in fact how things had gone today. Horribly wrong.
All things considered they'd still gotten off relatively unscathed. Largely due to the fact no one had actually died. There was, however, an alarmingly large number of severely injured to attend to. Some of which were very much at risk of dying if they didn't get the care they so urgently need.
A relatively crappy Taungsday, if Boil could say so himself. Him as his broken wrist and badly skinned arms and legs. Both afflictions which had resulted from an armaments crate going off on a cliff-side, sending him and more than half of the battalion tumbling down into uncertain doom.
A stroke of bad luck that not even Obi-wan Kenobi could save them from. Just the handful of men that had been nearest to him. No doubt something that would likely eat away at him, so full of guilt the Jetii often was when things went south.
Waxer might agree with his assessment if he weren't unconscious. He'd hit his head hard on a rock. Bled all over while laying deathly still in the fetal position, and left Boil to panic and fret despite his own injuries.
He'd gone into shock before Canivete found them. Things got a little foggy afterwards. Wasn't even sure how he'd ended up on a cot.
They were essentially running on a skeleton crew. Just three capable but overwhelmed medics, Peel serving as both nurse and errand boy, all the while Foxtrot took up all the slack that an entire battalion of capable men should be picking up.
The venomous glare captain '39 sent them whenever he and his boys passed by the emergency field hospital made his blood bubble up.
The commandos were annoyed with them for their apparent clumsiness. As if it had been anyone's fault that the sniper had caught such a lucky shot. Were they not ahead of them surely those assholes would have been in the same position.
Nevermind the fact Commander Cody also got caught in the blast. And Boil worried for him. Especially with how ragged he'd seen Cani' after she'd had to perform surgery in such limited conditions. The jagged scar on the commander's brow would not be the only one marking his body. His back and abdomen were shredded to ribbons.
And their Jetii, of course, was on the move trying to help in any way he could. Boil also worried for the general. Worried for his poor bleeding heart and need to make sure everyone was ok. Never taking the time to rest himself.
Theirs was a good Jetii... He didn't deserve to be put through this just as neither of Boil's brothers did.
This war was not being kind to him. He was not designed for it.
Alas, such was the way of things...
"What a mess..." Peel sighed sadly as he looked all around. The grim look upon his face an indicator of just how certain he was that he might not get to see some of these faces for much longer. "This isn't going to be one we'll want to remember is it...?"
"Not likely..." Boil responded quietly. Already sure himself that at least a handful of the vode were taking their last breaths. There was only so much the medics could do with the little they had at hand. Without access to the ship many fates were already sealed.
"A lucky shot..." Peel huffed irritably. "Just a damn lucky shot..."
"Usually how it is." Boil glanced back to the sleeping face of his closest brother and friend. Despite the thick bandages over his head and face, Waxer looked peaceful. "Good streak gotta end some time..."
"You think Cani's gonna lose it?" Peel motioned towards the medic, wincing at just how tired she looked. Their sister was usually so full of smiles. Seeing her like this was heartbreaking.
"She'll pull through...Bounces back quick that one." Maybe not this time, but he wouldn't ever let his pessimism rule what his siblings did or didn't do. "It's the general I'm worried about."
"Ain't doing great no..." Peel fidgeted nervously. "Smells like static around him... I.... I'm worried."
"Get some rest kid. You're saying nonsense again..." He wasn't, but no one wanted to address that particular issue the scratched up trooper was dealing with since Bray.
He didn't need to be told twice. Absconded like a spook in a crowd.
Leaving Boil with his thoughts. With the injured. With the dying.
Why did it have to go so badly?

Daisy Pt. 8
Note: Pretty short one tonight, art will be added in a reblog tomorrow. Also, these are not heavily edited. I am just here to vibe. However if u do see an absolutely egregious typo dm me and I’ll fix it. Found one in part seven while i was writing this and just about died.
(tw: possible dehumanizing language towards tiny, food)
Toby let out a sigh as he stepped out of the shower that night. He was still reeling from the events of the day. The wound wasn’t infected, and bonus, Daisy was no longer attempting death defying stunts over his desk, which was good. The fairy… wasn’t doing much of anything if he was being honest.
Toby had managed to coax him into drinking some water but was refusing to eat the berries and chips he’d stolen from the fridge for him. He’d also stolen some small wooden dowels that his mom used for gardening and some string. He wasn’t sure if the fairy was remaining stationary due to fear or pain, but if it was the former then he was going to be sure that Daisy (which still felt like it didn’t quite suit the little guy but who was he to judge) had a mobility aid. It wasn’t good for anyone, let alone someone the size of a mouse, to be so still for so long, and he hadn’t seen the fairy so much as twitch since he’d placed the tiny plate of food down in the box. He was awake now at least, and had been sitting up and staring at the food so hard Toby was worried for a minute that his little nose would start bleeding and the food would explode. Toby had decided to get ready for bed before that could happen.
He hadn’t gotten to take a good look at the fairy’s wing. It probably wouldn’t have helped anyway. It’s not like he’d ever had to do first aid on a dragonfly before. But it did worry him. He’d seen it quickly when the fairy had attempted to take off. The wing was still there but… it was pretty clear why Daisy was having trouble in the air to say the least.
He pulled a clean shirt over his head and rubbed his eyes, suddenly feeling much more tired than felt warranted. He stared at himself in the slightly foggy mirror.
“You are not going crazy. There is really a fairy in a shoebox on your desk, and you’re going to go back out there, and you’re going to put on a brave face because he’s terrified, and you’re his doctor. Ok. Go.”
Toby did not leave the bathroom for another ten minutes. When he did finally open the door again and walk slowly over to the desk, he was happy to see that Daisy had actually picked up a piece of fruit. The strawberry looked… comically large  in his tiny hands, even cut up as it was. But judging by the slight pink stain around his mouth, Daisy wasn’t complaining. He watched as he tore into the fruit, Toby realizing that the creature probably hadn’t eaten all day. Though the details were hard to make out on a face so small, Toby was surprised at how vicious the little guy looked. Or at least, if not vicious, desperate. Toby watched as Daisy realized he wasn’t alone anymore and froze. Toby smiled in an attempt to reassure the fairy.
“You must be pretty hungry, huh? Don’t worry about it, there’s plenty more where that came from.” Slowly, the fairy lifted the fruit back up to his mouth and started eating again, albeit much more slowly, and he used the sleeve of his shirt to wipe some of the juice from his face. His eyes didn’t leave Toby.
“I’m going to turn off the lights, ok? If you need food or water or anything just… thump the box a couple of times. I’m a pretty light sleeper,” He said when the faerie continued to remain silent. He had his suspicions that the faerie could speak but was choosing not to out of fear or some instinct, but even so he wouldn’t try and pressure him into speaking to ask for something as basic as water. He had a long night of googling ahead of him anyway. He flicked off the light switch and flopped down on his bed, opening up his phone. Typing in “fairy” probably wouldn’t get him much but it was as good a place to start as any. All the while, he could feel tiny golden eyes boring into the back of his head.

Moral of the Story. Chapter Four.
Tumblr media
Summary: Marrying too young out of highschool leads to a naive and failed marriage. Now 10 years later, word comes that the divorce was never actually completed. Bucky and Y/N have to come back together after all this time to settle what wasn’t all those years back. Passive attitudes, miscommunicated endings, and reminiscing of old loves and lives all comes back for the two.
Pairing: Bucky x Y/N
Word Count:
A/N:
Chapter Four:
Bucky groaned as the alarm blared throughout the room. Rolling over to his side, he threw his head into the pillow. That didn’t stop the beeping like he had hoped, so with a groan he pushed up, smacking the red numbers that screamed at him. He rolled back onto his back and blinked up at the bare ceiling.
Today was the day…
_________________
Y/N couldn’t seem to sleep at all, so she woke up early at 6:30 jumping into the shower. Having the extra time, she took it to have a nice long soak in the hot water. The schedule of the day running through her mind.
The chance of them running into each other was practically at 100%. They had a time frame of 9-10 to get in and sign what they needed. Mr. Murdock said something along the lines that it would take about 30-45 minutes to get everything finalized and copied.
So yeah… Within an hour frame of needed 30-45 minutes of signing shit and getting multiple copies made, meant Bucky and her would most likely be sitting next to the other as it was done.
She let out a tired and irritated moan as she finally decided to turn off the water. She had it running for so long, her hands were prunes and the water was becoming lukewarm. The world was telling her to suck it up and move on with the day.
____________
The car ride there was dreadful. Every stop light just elongated the inevitable meeting. Every turn brought him closer to the terrifying reunion.
He was running early to begin with, but after hitting traffic from a wreck, he was now running just a few minutes behind. So weaving through the people who didn’t understand New York traffic was his specialty in showing up in time.
____________
She stopped at the coffee shop by her house before really heading to the attorneys office. The car ride to the place was easy and smooth on her end. From coming from the outskirts of Brooklyn, the inner city traffic was avoided for the most part. So she was there early. She even had a second to sit in her car and drink the latte she had bought. Something about Brooklyn latte’s was 10x better than anything California had.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact they actually had cold weather to pair the hot drink with, whereas where she now lived, the lowest low in temperatures was 70 degrees.
________________
Getting there with just 3 minutes to spare, Bucky rushed out of the car and walked with a hint of speed to the door that read Nelson and Murdock Law Firm.
No sign of Y/N yet, but as he walked in, he heard a shout from the street that caused him to turn as soon as he walked in. He didn’t have a second to register what the shout was about as he took two steps in and ran straight into someone’s back.
“Whoa!” he said, using his hands to brace himself on the mystery person's shoulders, and the other person making the same exclamation. “Oh God, I’m so sor-”
Before he could finish the apology, the women turned showing the face of his matured high-school-sweetheart.
“Oh,” he let out in a breathy turn. He could tell just from past experience with her, she had a snarky comment on her tongue at the run in, but upon seeing him, the words died on her lips. “Hey.”
She looked great. Like, really great after all these years. Not that she wasn’t a beautiful gal to begin with, but you never know how someone’s going to age. However, she looked almost the same.
Sure, she had aged some, but just like a nice bottle of the finest wine in all the vineyards of California. Maybe that was her secret given her new home.
Her Y/H/C hair was styled in loose curls. It was voluminous with a healthy shine to it. She had on an off white, canvas dress that cinched at the waist with buttons going down it. And she had a layered gold necklace going down her chest where the buttons were undone. She looked both professional yet casual at the same time.
Tumblr media
Bucky realized he had been staring when she awkwardly looked around her trying to not pay attention to his analyzing eyes.
“Hey,” she said, letting out a deep breath.
She didn’t miss how good he looked either. Even in those facebook pictures that she had found the night before, the ones she found him just as attractive, they didn’t do the real man justice. His hair was just as long as the most recent picture his mother had posted, and he looked more muscular than she ever remembered. The scrubs didn't do his build justice.
He was wearing a navy blue v-neck tight fitting t-shirt. A brown leather jacket that looked as though it was tailored specifically for him and him alone. And lastly, he had on a pair of jeans that of course, fit in him all the right places.
There was a very awkward silence as they stood there not knowing what else to say. Neither now looking at the other, but instead looking at every little inanimate object item in the office.
After what felt like eons of the most tense silence to exist, Bucky was about to speak up again, but was cut off from another person running in late.
“Oh, gosh. I’m so sorry guys,” the voice sighed, out of breath from what they presumed was running to get there on time. “Foggy was supposed to pick me up and we were going to ride together, but he got food poisoning last night, so I had to take the train last minute.”
The man had dark brown hair, a nice suit, and a pair of sunglasses on even though it was overcast today and the sun was barely peeking through the heavy clouds.
“Foggy?” Y/N asked with a tilt of her head.
Bucky turned back looking at her with the same question on his mind, but watching the small action of confusion brought him back 10 years. God, it had been so long he had almost forgotten the little mannerisms she had that he found adorable. And damn her for still having that adorable action.
“Oh, right. Franklin Nelson. My co-attorney,” he nodded. “We’ve been friends since we were in college. Friends call him Foggy.”
“Oh, I see,” Y/N nodded with a kind smile.
“Anyway, I won’t bore you with my morning chaos. I’m sure you two are ready to get this over with and go on about your day,” he smiled, and pulled a walking stick out from around him as he closed the door. One that neither had realized he had been holding until now. “You two much be James and Y/N. It’s nice to meet you, I’m Matthew Murdock.
“It’s nice to meet you Matthew,” Y/N replied sweetly.
“Yes, thank you for helping us out,” Bucky nodded, placing his hands nervously in his pockets.
“It’s my pleasure. I’m so sorry about everything that you guys are having to fix,” he said apologetically. But I’m sure you guys want to go about your day, so please, right this way,” he motioned to the door that was across from them.
Bucky and Y/N both shared an impressed look on their faces as they watched him maneuver through the office gracefully.
They followed close behind him and once they were seated in the chairs in front of the desk, Bucky began to fidget in his spot. Sure the office had been redone and really didn’t look much like it had all those years ago, but the layout was the same. And all it was doing to him was bringing back memories he hated trudging back to the surface.
He subtly looked over at Y/N and saw her sitting in perfect posture watching Matthew as if if she were to look at him and only him, then she wouldn’t have to face Bucky.
Why did he expect anything less? Of course she hated him just as much as she had all those years. She was probably dreading this meeting just as much as him. That small speck of hope that maybe they could be somewhat normal and civil upon meeting again after all this time, completely faded at that point.
“Ok, this really shouldn’t take all that much time since Foggy and I went ahead and wrote up all the things that needed signed and double checked. So we should be able to breeze through all this,” Matthew nodded, bringing up a thick file that looked as though it had tabs on the side organizing them.
Y/N looked over wondering just how he knew the difference between documents and noticed on each tab, there were bariel markings along them.
“If you don’t mind me asking, out of all places to live, why New York? It’s got to be hard getting around such a crazy busy city given.. ” Bucky asked, but didn’t finish not sure how to word it. Y/N snapped her head in his direction and smacked his arm. “Ow!” Bucky jumped, sending her raised eyebrows. “What the hell?”
“I’m assuming you’re asking because of this,” Matthew laughed casually as he pointed to his glasses. “Don’t worry. You would be surprised just how often I get asked that.”
“Yeah, it was just a question,” Bucky pouted toward Y/N while rubbing his assaulted arm. The two falling back into their old behaviors rather fast.
“I wasn’t always blind. I mean I have been for a good chunk of my life, but I’ve lived in New York my whole life as well,” Matthew went on to explain as he moved papers around. “If anything it would be harder for me to get around if I moved any place else. I know this place like the back of my hand.”
“That’s impressive,” Bucky nodded, getting comfortable in his seat.
“Eh, it’s either learn or get bumped around the sidewalk of a place full of people who don’t give a second glance to anyone who’s in their way,” Matthew shrugged. “Oh, I need to go grab something before we start.”
He maneuvered through the room leaving the door open as he went across the office. Tension filled the air as they were left alone for a second time in the past 5 minutes.
Y/N was sitting straight forward, her eyes wandering here and there around the meeting room, but careful not to go over to Bucky’s side of the room. He looked down seeing her hands were fiddling in her lap. She was tapping her thumbs together while his leg bounced up and down.
Bucky had opened his mouth to start to say something, but even he wasn’t sure what was about to come out. Lucky for him, Matthew came back in and went back to his seat.
“Sorry about that. I thought I had it all, but needed to get some pens and one last paper I left on the printer last night.”
“You’re fine,” Y/N said professionally, but kindly. “I have one quick question, if you don’t mind.” Matthew nodded her on with a soft smile. “What exactly happened to Hammer after all this chaos was discovered?”
“Oh, yes. He, uh, he will not be an issue to anyone else to put it lightly. His license was revoked and terminated and he is currently on trial for money laundering and malpractice,” he answered.
“Serves him right,” Bucky mumbled, and instead of getting a smack to the arm, Y/N nodded in agreement.
“Ok, if you two are ready, let’s begin,” Matthew smiled before grabbing the first set of papers.
The two straightened in their seats and the process began.
After a few minutes of just signing, Matthew started to make notes of updated information for the two.
“Ok, Mrs. Barnes, sorry, Y/N,” he corrected quickly. “What is your line of profession at the moment?”
“I work at Horizon Labs in L.A. It’s a company a friend and I from college started up. I’m a Sustainable-Conscious Financial Advisor for a lot of smaller businesses as well as some bigger ones we recently just became partners with,” she answered.
“Horizon Labs, huh?” Matthew said with an impressed look. Bucky turned to look at her as she lightly blushed. “I think I listened to a podcast about them. You guys help companies use recycled goods and find energy efficient technology, right?”
“We just redirect them to people who can help them get those resources. It’s practically just connecting the companies that would work great together in helping the environment,” she nodded humbly.
“That’s amazing,” Matthew smiled. “We need more people and companies like that.”
“Thank you.”
He made note of that on a computer. “I’m assuming with all that, you have to be a little too busy for a second job, right? I don’t need to make note of another?”
“Uh, actually,” she added, Bucky’s already focused eyes on her quirked at her response. “I just invested in a Woman’s shelter with another friend of mine. I haven’t really got to do much with it, but it is a second job as of lately.”
“Wait? Nat?” Bucky caught on.
“Uh, yeah,” she nodded almost shyly. Probably the second time out of this whole meeting that she actually made eye contact with him. “My company works with them in getting some of the resources and items they need for the shelter. I talked with Nat and I invested into it some to help with some with their financial advisements.”
“Wow, th-that’s,” Bucky faltered. “That sounds like you,” he said with a breathy laugh thinking about how maybe she really hadn’t changed all these years. That being one of the ‘reasons’ they had broken it off, how people change and all. But that’s a story for another time.
Y/N didn’t show a response to his words, but she did take them in.
“So you run a woman’s home and you run a well-off business that promotes eco-friendly resources for the environment?”
“Well, I don’t run the woman’s home. That’s all my friends doing. I just help where help is asked if I can,” she answered once again humbly. No sense of egotistical pride hinted in her explanations or answers.
“That’s extremely impressive Y/N,” Matthew gushed some, and Bucky noticed the smallest form of attraction come off the lawyer. He straightened at that. “I’ll make a note of it. And you Mr. Barnes. What is your occupation?”
Bucky relaxed his shoulders and focused back at the issue at hand. Trying to not get jealous of something that wasn’t even his to be jealous of.
“I’m one of the head occupational therapist at Stark Theracorp,” he answered. Now it was Y/N’s turn to look at him intrigued. “I run the geriatric occupational therapy floor and manage our equipment and employees. ”
“Two very impressive people in the work field from what I’m getting,” Matthew chuckled some as he made the notes. “Now, if you don’t mind, I have to ask about income from the both of you for the record. If you want to write it on a paper and hand it to me you can or if you are comfortable saying it outloud that works too. Either way, I’ll have Foggy add it in later to the finalized papers.”
“Wait, so we aren’t finalizing it today?” Y/N asked, somewhat shocked.
“Did Foggy not tell you?” Matthew asked. “I thought he reached out to you before this meeting.”
“I don’t believe so,” Y/N shook her head.
“Well, the reason this one is so quick is because I just need a few signatures and updated notes on you two. After that, I’ll make the altercations for the official papers and I’ll send those to you both on their own to get the final signature. You can either bring them to me here, fax them, or have them sent via mail after you signed off on them.”
“Oh, I see,” Y/N nodded. The look of defeat in her posture and facial expressions.
It hurt Bucky a little seeing her reaction to it. Did she really want to get away from him that bad? Was he that much of a nuisance in her life? I mean, yeah, they were supposed to be divorced 9 years ago, but he didn’t want it then and it still hurt seeing just how much she wanted it now.
“That’s not an issue is it? I’m terribly sorry for the inconvenience,” Matthew apologized.
“No, no. It’s ok,” she said in reassurance to him. But she let out an almost bitter laugh before she spoke again. “We’ve been married for the past 9 years apparently. What’s a few more days?”
“I guess that’s true,” Matthew laughed with her.
Bucky rolled his eyes discreetly. He really hated how she was reacting with all this. It wasn’t surprising, but doesn’t mean it hurts any less seeing how badly she wanted out of the situation.
“Mr. Barnes, are you ok with that?”
“I’ll survive a few more days, I guess,” he returned just as bitterly as Y/N. The two looked at each other one more time, but this time, anger and annoyance was clear on both of their faces.

Remus woke up the next morning with a splitting headache. He blinked a few times to get the tiredness out of his eyes—which seemed to want to stay glued shut—and stared at the ceiling for long moments.
His first thought was that, for a second, he thought he could hear Padfoot’s laugh. Vague images of a dream he’d had came flooding back to him; long corridors, empty beds and his gaming console. The sound must have been a remnant of that.
The second thought was that the ceiling of his room was weird. He couldn’t quite pinpoint where the bugging sensation came from, but something was off and he was way too tired to figure out what it was. Maybe he should just go back to sleep. Groaning, he turned around to do just that, and that’s when he got a good look at the rest of the room.
He sat up with a start, regretting it instantly when nausea hit him like a wave. Closing his eyes, he stayed still until the feeling ebbed away, then opened them again slowly.
This wasn’t his room. There was no sign of any of his stuff; instead, he saw a big mirror, a dark wood chest of drawers, and a trail of scattered things that either belonged to different people or to someone with diverse tastes: a blue hair tie, a black snapback, t-shirts that at a glance he could tell were of different sizes, with stamps that varied from Disney to Strand.
One by one, memories from the night before popped up as the fogginess from sleep left him completely. That’s right, Sirius had offered his home to him after he’d found Remus outside of his flat; he’d come in to take a shower and had sat on the couch as they watched a movie and drank. Things were a bit hazy from that point on.
Had he really pouted and asked Sirius to stay with him like a little kid? Fuck, please let that be a part of the drunk hallucinations. He turned around slowly, glancing to the other side of the bed with his heart beating fast in his throat, but the spot next to him was empty.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Remus threw the blankets to the side and planted his feet on the floor to get some resemblance of stability, but frowned when he stepped on something. Looking down, he noticed a pillow and a blanket lying rumpled on the floor, next to his side of the bed.
A pang of guilt made its way to his chest when he realised Sirius must have slept on the floor while Remus was on the bed, covered from head to toe and warm. Sirius had been so careful with him. Every touch had been gentle, not invasive but rather trying not to overstep, trying to comfort. So, so very careful.
Remus felt slightly ashamed for thinking Sirius would take advantage of him. Not to mention for the way he'd bawled his eyes out in front of the man. He’d made a fool of himself yet again, something that kept happening a lot as of late and to which he wasn’t used to.
“Oh, God.” He remembered how he’d felt his mother’s hand brushing his hair before he fell asleep and he desperately hoped he hadn’t called out for her in his dream. Bringing a hand to his forehead, he could almost feel that phantom touch, tracing fingertips over his hairline.
He rubbed his face in embarrassment. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to face Sirius after all that, but there was no way he could fall asleep again and a quick glance at the clock on the opposite wall told him it was barely eight in the morning. It was still too early to call Leo or go back to the clinic, plus he didn’t know how everything had panned out.
Remus glanced at the bedside table where his phone was lying face down and stretched over to grab it. He flipped it from hand to hand, back and forth, the small thing weighing him down every time it fell on his palm with a soft thud.
He could call.
He should call.
But what if something had gone wrong? What if Cocoa had had a complication during the night? Would they have notified him already if that was the case? Did he want to find out like this, far away from him and helpless to do anything? He didn’t want to show any more weaknesses in front of Sirius, he’d already shown more of his vulnerable side than he’d ever intended to.
Nodding to himself, Remus got up and threw the phone on the bed. He took two steps towards the door. The doctor had told him to go in the afternoon; he could wait a couple of hours before going back to the clinic and then he would know and—
A huff escaped him as Remus hurried back and dialed the number, plopping down on the mattress.
“Thank you for calling Mercy Animal Clinic. This is Jennifer, how can I help you?”
“Yes, hi, my name is Remus? I brought my dog in last night for chocolate poisoning and I—I was just calling to check on him?”
“Of course, Sir. What is the patient's name?”
“Cocoa,” said Remus, gripping his phone a bit tighter. Jennifer hummed and asked for a few more details to confirm his identity, to which Remus replied on autopilot, his mind going blank in a subconscious attempt to protect himself.
“Just a second, please.”
Remus busied himself counting the floorboards while he waited, trying to calm his nerves, but it had the opposite effect as he became very aware of how long Jennifer was taking to find what he wanted to know. He’d started tapping his foot when the receptionist finally came back on the other end of the line.
“Yes, everything was ok during the night and Cocoa will be ready to go home after lunch,” they said cheerfully.
Remus’ breath stopped completely and then he exhaled loudly. He could have sworn he felt his heart unclench, invisible fingers letting go of their painful grip and allowing blood to stream freely again. His shoulders dropped, releasing all the pent up tension that had been building there since he’d stepped into his apartment the night before, and he laid down, covering his eyes with his free arm.
“Sir?” Jennifer said hesitantly.
“Yes. Ok. Ok. Thanks, I’ll be there.” He hung up and let the phone fall at his side.
The silence of the room was an echo of his own head as Remus tried to let the words sink in. He peeked at the ceiling from under his arm. Cocoa was fine. The phrase repeated itself a few times until Remus took a deep breath and swung himself up.
The hall was quiet outside of the room, but he could hear some noises coming from ahead. Remus bunched the sleeves of the jumper he was wearing, not too willing to admit how comfy and warm he was in Sirius’ clothes. Especially not when he was assaulted by memories of Sirius helping him walk through this same corridor the night before and Remus almost gave in to the embarrassment. Sirius probably thought he was pathetic.
Groaning, he steeled himself as he padded the rest of the way, but his step faltered before going into the kitchen, a hand rising to settle on the wall. Something smelled amazing in there. Like melted butter and Saturday mornings back home, with his mom humming as she stood by the stove and the sun streamed in through the open windows. The sound of the sizzling pan was accompanied by a rock song playing in the background, a cool guitar distortion filling the room, followed by a gravelly voice singing a capella.
And there was Sirius in the middle of it all, moving around the kitchen gracefully, head bopping and singing into a ladle. He slid across the floor like Tom Cruise in that old movie as he moved to the fridge and a chuckle bubbled out of Remus’ chest, taking with it most of the heaviness still clinging to him.
Sirius jumped up, accidentally closing the fridge door with a bang, and turned to face Remus fully. It was only then that Remus realized what he was wearing: he had black ripped jeans and a black tee, his hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail; and on top of all that, he had one of those aprons that had a buff man printed on the front, that read “Kiss the chef”.
Remus stared for so long that Sirius followed his gaze and looked down, only to look back up quickly with a blush. “It was James’ idea of a joke.”
James, as Remus was quickly learning, took special pleasure in teasing his friends, although Lily claimed he always failed when it came to her. But Sirius clearly treasured anything that came from his best friend, no matter how silly or awkward.
Clearing his throat, Remus stepped into the kitchen and peered at the stove. “What are you making?”
“Pancakes!” Sirius exclaimed, seemingly glad for the rapid move of the subject. “I thought you could use some hangover breakfast,” he added with a shrug before turning back to the mixing bowl on the counter.
“Oh,” Remus said dumbly, taken by surprise. He scrambled for something to add. “Did you get the recipe from the same place as those cookies?”
Sirius spluttered and threw an offended look over his shoulder. “Mon Dieu, I’m never going to live that down, am I? I’ll have you know, these are my speciality. But I won’t give you anything if you keep that attitude up.”
Laughing quietly, Remus breathed a sigh of relief that Sirius wasn't looking at him with pity or mentioning his sorry state from the night before. So much had happened between them in just one day, he wasn’t sure how he was supposed to act anymore. He shuffled awkwardly to the island and, as he leaned on it, the name of the song Sirius had been dancing to dawned on him.
“I can’t believe you’re actually listening to Black Dog,” Remus said, covering his face, not sure if he wanted to laugh or cry.
“Hey,” Sirius turned to point at him with the batter-covered ladle, “Plant speaks to me on a spiritual level. I’m sending good vibes to Cocoa.”
Remus raised an eyebrow, making an effort to keep the corners of his mouth down. “You do know that the lyrics have nothing to do with dogs, right?”
“Yeah, but it’s the feeling that counts,” he waved his hand dismissively, sending a few vanilla-colored drops flying, “and the song title.” Smiling at that logic, Remus shook his head—as weird as it was, he found it reassuring. Sirius peered at him as he flipped the golden pancakes easily. “I’m glad you look better. How are you feeling?”
Remus tensed up, but it didn’t look like Sirius was making fun of him. Focusing on some point by his feet, he rubbed at his neck. "Yeah, um. Thank you for your help. And sorry about...everything. I guess it was one thing after the other and it was just too much.”
“We’ve been through this, you have nothing to be sorry for,” Sirius smiled tentatively. “Have they contacted you from the vets?”
“Actually, I called just now.” His heart rate picked up as excitement coursed through his body. Saying the words aloud made them even more real, allowed them to settle in and gave way to tiny pinpricks of impatience. “They said everything’s good. I can bring him home after lunch.”
Sirius turned to face him fully and his hand went to grip Remus’ forearm, his smile turning so bright it was almost blinding. “Remus, that’s great.”
Remus smiled too, staring straight at him. “Yeah,” he breathed. After a second too long, he coughed discreetly and moved back. “I just feel like I won’t be able to relax fully until I see him, you know? I wish I could go over now.”
“Yeah, I get that,” Sirius said as he leaned back too, fingers moving to play with the strings of his apron. “Just a few more hours, eh?” Remus hummed noncommittally and, sensing that he needed a bit of a distraction, Sirius turned his attention back to the food. “In the meantime, can you get the plates from over there?” He pointed at a cabinet as he got the pan out of the stove.
Remus did as he was asked and brought them over to the counter, where an array of toppings were waiting. His stomach grumbled as he watched Sirius cutting up some strawberries to place over the pancakes and then drizzling chocolate on top of everything, singing under his breath to the next song on his playlist. It was all oddly domestic. It was nice.
They sat in the living room to eat, though instead of sharing the couch like they had last night, Sirius—now without the ridiculous apron—sat across the coffee table on one of the armrests. Remus took a bite of the fluffy sponge and closed his eyes with a hum. “Ok, you were right. These are awesome.”
Sirius had just taken a mouthful himself, but he beamed before he swallowed and licked some of the chocolate off his finger. “Glad you like them, Re. I don’t think my reputation could have survived another fiasco.”
“Are you sure this wasn’t just a lucky mistake?” Remus joked, if only to ignore the way his stomach jumped at the nickname, prompting Sirius to throw a napkin at him.
For the next two hours or so, the conversation was light and easy while the music kept playing at a dim level. But, as time went on and the plates got piled up on the coffee table, Sirius started getting distracted.
He kept glancing at his phone like he was checking the time or waiting for a call. Remus would have thought that he was overstaying his welcome—Sirius had a life to get back to, after all—if it weren’t for the fact that the man kept the conversation going and going, asking questions and gesturing excitedly when he was telling a story about how he and his friends had once managed to get a flock of pigeons inside a train full of passengers. At this point, Remus was pretty sure that Sirius was not capable of lying.
A lazy breeze drifted in from the open window, bringing in the smell of morning dew and ruffling Sirius’ hair so that a few strands fell in front of his face. As he brushed them back, he raised his eyes and pinned Remus with a look that was slowly becoming very familiar. That look that said he wanted to say something but he was choosing his words carefully.
Remus was pretty sure he knew what that meant. So far, everything he’d blabbed about the night before had been skillfully avoided—mostly by Remus averting his eyes every time Sirius looked at him like that. He wasn’t looking away now though. Wasn’t sure he could, honestly; not with such intensity and thinly-veiled concern directed his way. Sirius opened his mouth, the words starting to form at the back of his throat when Remus’ phone pinged.
He jumped slightly and went to quickly fish it out of his pocket, holding on to the getaway it provided. Talking about his behaviour or the few hints he’d let slip about his past was not something he was ready to tackle. A quiet sigh dropped from Sirius’ lips as he got up to take the plates back to the kitchen, while Remus stared at the notification flashing on his home page. “Oh, Padfoot just uploaded a new video?”
The sound of ceramic banging in the sink startled Remus into looking up. “Um...you ok?”
“Yes! Too much soap,” Sirius’ voice came back, muffled slightly by the running water.
Remus snorted and got comfortable on one end of the couch, resting his back on the side and pulling his knees up. He wiggled his toes as he waited for the page to load, digging them into the plush sofa and then tapping his feet when the video finally started. It began like usual, with the starting screen of a game and Padfoot’s cheerful voice.
“Hello everyone and welcome! You’ve all been nagging at me to play with Prongs more often, so I hope you appreciate how much effort it took to get his ass out of bed.”
“That’s so not the introduction I was expecting,” another voice complained.
“Oh, I’m sorry, did you want to do it?”
“Why, yes, thank you. Hello y’all! By popular demand and because I know you like me more than this silly goose, I am here to play some games and have fun! Mostly at Padfoot’s expense.”
“You’re the only person in the world who could say ‘silly goose’ and not have everyone laughing at them.”
“I know, it’s a skill I honed for years.”
“What the hell,” Remus laughed, shaking his head fondly.
Sirius came back into the room, drying his hands absentmindedly on his pants as he took his seat back. He sat at the very edge of the cushion, leaning slightly forward with his hands clasped between his knees, eyes down.
Remus made a questioning sound, waving the phone in front of him. “Do you mind?”
“No,” Sirius croaked, gesturing with his hand for him to go on as he cleared his throat.
A small line of confusion pulled Remus’ brows together. Something was definitely going through Sirius’ mind. Deciding to give the man some time, Remus focused his attention back on the video and made a note to ask later if something was bothering him.
Padfoot was talking about the game they were going to play and Remus could feel his energy even through the screen. He always got like this when he was trying something new. Remus pictured him bouncing on his chair, waiting impatiently to start playing, tapping the buttons in anticipation. “He’s like a kid on sugar, isn’t he?” he said without thinking.
A cough came from Sirius’ spot. “Well, I… I think it’s...nice? He sounds happy.”
The corners of Remus’ lips tugged up in a small smile at that. “Yeah. That’s good.”
“Huh?”
“He didn’t seem his usual self in the past few streams. I’m just glad he’s ok, is all.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Remus saw how Sirius’ hands gripped his knees tightly, slipping through the holes in his jeans. Remus watched in silence but, just when he was about to ask what was going on, the video changed. A small square appeared on one of the corners, showing a man sitting in a chair, not much to see in the background, his face covered with the black dog that was his signature logo. Remus sat up straighter. It wasn’t often that Padfoot appeared in his videos and he couldn’t help the interest that sparked inside him whenever it happened. He scanned the small image until something caught his eye.
“Huh? ...Wait. That’s—” Remus froze for a second before promptly throwing his phone to the other end of the couch. “Oh my God.” He covered his mouth, feeling the pull of his mouth as a grin lit up his face, his wide eyes not leaving the small device lying innocently face up. “Oh my God, oh my God.”
“What happened?”
Remus turned to see Sirius looking at him with a confused little smile, probably wondering if he was still drunk or just bonkers.
“He...he’s wearing my merch. My merch.” And one of his favourite hoodies from the collection, at that. “How—How does he even know about me? I know he likes to keep in shape but…”
The faintest blush crossed Sirius’ cheeks. He rubbed his hands together, looking down at them and then back up at Remus’ still astounded face. He took a deep breath and exhaled in one go. “You know, I’m...” He trailed off, mouth opening and closing a few times.
Remus tried to bring his thoughts back to the room, to the man in front of him and not the one on the screen. He bent forward to grab the discarded phone, his mind still reeling as he paused the video. “Yeah?” he prompted Sirius to go on when he straightened back up, smile still in place—he wasn’t sure he could wipe it off even if he wanted to.
Sirius’ grey eyes roamed his face, then went to the phone in his hands before they finally settled on his bright expression and he sighed, smiling and shaking his head. “No, nevermind.”
Remus tilted his head, but Sirius simply shrugged. “Are you sure? You can say it, whatever it is.”
“I don’t think it’s the right time,” Sirius admitted, letting his head fall back as he worried his lip.
Curiosity flared up, dazzling and hot, and Remus tried to water it down, unwilling to trespass Sirius’ boundaries. Instead, he looked down and tried to organise his whirring mind, eyes going to the clock on his phone. “Fuck,” he muttered. He really wanted to finish watching and keep talking with Sirius, but it was getting late. “I should probably get going.”
“Oh,” Sirius blinked as he raised his head up. “You can stay if you want to.”
“No, I…” Remus stood up. “I should go get the key from Leo. I will probably see both his mom and mine, which means it won’t be a short visit and I’d like to be at the clinic as soon as possible.”
“Do you want me to come with you?”
Stopping midstep, Remus turned to look at Sirius, eyebrows raised. “Come with me?”
“Yeah, to the clinic? You are not too fond of them.”
It wasn’t a question, but Remus replied anyway, surprised that Sirius had caught on to that at all. “No, I’m not,” he said, dumbfounded. He shook his head. “But it’s ok, you did a lot for me already.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “Remus, anyone in my place would have done the same.”
No, they wouldn’t.
“It’s fine, really. Leo will probably come with me,” he said. He wasn’t sure how Sirius could think that everyone was that selfless, that any person would have helped an almost stranger without thinking it was too much effort. Remus chose not to say anything about it, knowing fully well that was not the case.

Raise the Stakes, Part 3
Ok, so this section is a lot longer than the previous ones, which is specifically what I was trying to avoid by splitting it up, but I'm certain that there was no way to insert an act break in this without it ruining the flow of the action.
If this is the first part of the story you're finding, you'll want to get caught up:
Place Your Bets (prequel)
Part one Part two
Pairing: Jay White x OFC/ David Finlay x OFC
Word count: 3,007
Content advisory: graphic sexual content, language, mild violence that some may find upsetting or disturbing.
“Jesus, Jay, what the hell?” You push at his chest, not that it’s going to do you a bit of good.
“Where have you been?” He hisses.
“Oh, are you seriously going to do this? You know where I’ve been. I had a date, I spent the night with him. And then I spent the day with him.”
“Didn’t bother asking for my permission.” His tone is so icy and mocking, and so uncharacteristically controlled that you’re a little frightened.
You exhale and let yourself go limp. “No, I didn’t. And you know what, I don’t give a fuck. I’ve killed myself trying to make you happy and right now I have no idea why. So if you want to try to make me feel guilty for spending every minute I can with someone who doesn’t treat me like I’m beneath contempt, if you want to punish me for running away and feeling happy for a few hours, you go right ahead.”
Your breathing is so rapid that you know he won’t believe that you actually don’t care but what’s the worst he can do? Is it really going to be any worse than what you’ve put yourself through trying to make him love you back?
He snickers quietly and slides one of his hands around the base of your throat. He doesn’t squeeze or push, just leaves it there like a silent threat. He’s more than strong enough to strangle you without even having to exert himself. That’s crazy, though, isn’t it? Yes, he’s abusive and heartless and manipulative but he’s also someone you’ve known for years. There’s no way Jay would actually hurt you. Is there?
He leans his face close so that you can hear his breath rasping in your ear. “That’s sweet. Did your little boyfriend treat you nice? Did he make you feel special?”
“Jay,” you tell him, trying to keep your voice steady, “you need to get off of me right now. I don’t know if you’ve been drinking or taking speed or what but it has to stop.”
His hand pushes just a little further up and feels just a little heavier.
“Answer me. Did he make you feel good?”
“This is none of your business.” You give an exasperated sigh. “Yes. I had a great time. He made me feel like the most beautiful, most desirable-“
For the first time, Jay tightens his grip on your throat, cutting off your air and your words.
“So he fucked you well? Made you come? Had you screaming his name?”
He releases you again and in the wake of the terror of the last few seconds, you’re suddenly furious.
“Yes, he did. So many times. Best sex I’ve ever had in my life.”
“Oh, you want to be mean? Think you’re going to hurt my feelings like you haven’t been panting after me like some pathetic stray dog for years? I pay you, I let you get your little shots in, I fuck you which no one else has until the last week.” His hand drops from your throat but just as quickly, his other hand grabs a handful of your hair, pulling it so tight that you feel a few strands ripped out at the root. He twists your head to the side, pinning it to the pillow.
“Jay, you’re hurting me!” For the first time, the fear is in your voice. You’ve never seen him like this. You don’t know who this man in your bed is.
“You want to know what hurts?” He snarls. “I trusted you.”
“What are you talking about? What do you think is going on? It’s a couple of dates, Jay. I took a day off and didn’t tell you. Can’t you be a little happy for me?”
“I trusted you,” he repeats. “And you betrayed me.”
“Betrayed? Don’t be so dramatic. This is not about you.”
He grabs your throat again and squeezes.
“I saw you,” he drawls, biting down hard on your earlobe. “I saw you yesterday in his arms, all happy and smiling. You couldn’t even be bothered to close the fucking door.”
Your brain scrambles to catch up. Did he mean this morning? No, he wouldn’t have had any reason to be skulking around on a different floor of the hotel. Did Sanada say something after all? Then it occurs to you. Sanada hadn’t closed the door when he left the room yesterday. He probably hadn’t even thought about it. The door was almost always open. You’d closed it because you wanted to work. David had closed it because he wanted to keep your secret. Sanada had opened the door, gotten a drink, and walked out like he always did, and you and David had been so blissed out that you hadn’t noticed.
“Look,” you gasp, clawing at his hand, “we can talk about this. It doesn’t have to be a big deal.”
He gives a pained cry and bites down hard on your neck, making you cry out in turn.
“This is a huge fucking deal. I am not going to let that little mealworm wriggle in and take what’s mine.”
He releases your neck again and as you draw in oxygen, you frantically try to think of how to defuse the bomb on top of you. If he wants to, he can end David’s career in New Japan. He can easily stop the two of you from seeing each other. What’s clear, though, is that he’s not firing you, which would be a mercy, because if that’s what he wanted, he’d have done it already.
What’s also clear, and you hate yourself for it, is that you’ve never been more turned on in your life. Feeling the weight of him on you, the burning intensity of his expression and his words. It’s like he can barely control himself, that he’s fighting to stop himself from tearing into you. You’ve never seen him act like this about anything.
“No one’s taking anything from you, Jay,” you insist, turning to look at him when he loosens his grip a little. “I’m not going anywhere. I work myself to the bone for you and that’s not going to change.”
He gives a sardonic laugh. “And he’s so pathetically in love that he’s fine with the kind of work you do for me?”
“I didn’t mean that and you know it. That was never exactly part of the job description. But everything else stays the same.”
“Except that you’re fucking David Finlay.”
“Except that I have a life outside my job. And you won’t have to put up with me panting after you as you so delicately put it.”
“No.” He says it so loudly it startles you.
“What do you mean no?” You whine. “This is how normal people do things. Some people work together. They have relationships with other people. They don’t crawl into a coworker’s bed in the middle of the night and scare them half to death thinking-“
“No,” he repeats sharply.
“Why?” You whimper.
“You’re mine and he can’t have you.” He shoves the bedcovers out of the way and roughly runs his hands over your nude body. “He can’t have any part of you. Not your pussy, not your mouth, not your loyalty, not your feelings.”
You’re about to argue but he crushes his mouth against yours and although you know the only sane thing to do is fight him off, you reciprocate without hesitation, relishing the little moans and purrs that escape him as the kiss grows more and more passionate.
“I’ve been so terrible,” he murmurs. “My girl needs a reminder of why she puts up with me.”
He squeezes your breast, twisting his fingers around the nipple just firmly enough to make you gasp. And you know you shouldn’t, you know you should smack him in the head or scream into his ear and do whatever it takes to make him go away because you’re very aware what’s at risk. But as he kisses his way down your body, giving little hums and sighs of satisfaction when you twitch or gasp in response, it’s like the lovely memories you were clinging to when you crawled into this bed a few hours ago are becoming foggy and disjointed, like something you might have imagined to make yourself feel better about the situation you’re really in.
For the longest time, he lets his mouth hover around your pussy, just soft licks and kisses over the hollows of your hips, the inside of your thighs, and over the inner and outer lips, gently sucking on the flesh as his hot breath vibrates over your clit.
“This is the best smell in the world,” he murmurs into your skin, “and I never take the time to enjoy it.”
Your whole body is shaking by the time he starts thrusting his tongue against you. You want to push back against him but you force yourself not to, hoping to withstand his attention, to refuse to let him bring you to orgasm. The problem is that when he makes the effort, Jay is an incredible lover.
“Don’t hold back,” he cajoles, having detected what you’re trying to do. “Give into it. Let go.” He looks up at you and flashes an evil little grin. “I won’t tell, I promise.”
You try to curse at him but of course, he intensifies his actions and all you can do is grab hold of the sheet with all your might and try to stop yourself from screaming. He alternates fucking you with his tongue and lavishing attention on your clit, pausing only to keep encouraging you to relax and let it happen, to let him pleasure you and with each passing second, it seems more ridiculous to even try to stop it. You’re too far gone in every sense.
“Oh god, fuck, Jay!” Your silence gives way at the same time as your body and you blurt out his name like it’s the only thing you’re capable of saying.
He lifts his head just enough so that you can see the thick gloss of your juices on his lips and through his beard before he starts kissing you and touching you again. He stays away from your too-sensitive bud but his lips and fingers move everywhere around it, finding a whole ring of nerves outside and inside just begging for attention. You can’t even tell if it’s just powerful aftershocks you’re feeling or if you’re rolling through orgasm after orgasm. Does it matter? It does not.
Gradually he glides up your body, still rocking against you, caressing you all over as he moves, like he wants to make love to every part of you individually. You run your fingers through his hair, lightly scratching at his scalp like you know he loves. You're rewarded with deep purrs of satisfaction, like he’s a big cat you’ve managed to tame. Usually, you don’t get the opportunity to touch him like this, but you figured it out early on and you’ve never forgotten.
You wonder if he knows he was the first man to make you come. You’ve certainly never told him. It’s not like you were that experienced but you’d been with enough men by the time you first got together with Jay that you’d pretty much given up hope that you’d meet a man who’d be able to figure you out. And then he’d come along and made you fall apart like it was nothing. He still can.
His kisses become more playful and ticklish, which gets you both laughing a little.
“You deserve it.” He says the phrase in the same singsong cadence that fans chant it during shows. “You deserve it.”
This gets you laughing even harder so that you’re almost caught off guard when he starts licking and nipping at your neck in earnest.
His rigid cock is sliding against your soaked pussy but he’s making no effort to enter you. You buck your hips a little to let him know he’s welcome.
“I don’t have to,” he tells you, running a finger ever so delicately down your throat and over your collarbone. “This is for you.”
“You don’t want to?”
He laughs. “More than anything. But for once I’m telling you it’s not about what I want. I mean it. You can send me back to my room if you like.”
“You know I want you.”
“Like this?” He thrusts his hips hard against yours.
“Exactly like that.”
He needs no further encouragement to guide himself into you, gasping like it’s the best thing he’s ever felt as he begins pumping into you.
“That son of a bitch fucked you all night and you’re still as tight as when I met you.”
A pained sound escapes you and the word “no” just after it. You cover your face with your hand and try not to picture where you were twenty-four hours ago.
Roughly, he pushes your hand back. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. You just feel so good, always so fucking good.”
He kisses you insistently but sweetly, pulling on your legs so that they curve over his broad shoulders, allowing him to push deeper inside you as he picks up his pace. As he moves, he rolls you a little further forward, to the point you think that if his arms weren’t firmly planted on either side of your head, the two of you would end up turning a summersault. The higher the angle, the deeper he’s able to get and the more contact he’s able to get with your g-spot, so that you’re practically screaming again as you feel the tension rising like lava in a volcano.
“That’s so good,” you whine, grabbing onto his bicep. You have to focus on pulling oxygen into your lungs or you’ll pass out. “I’m gonna come again, Jay.”
“I’m right with you,”
Your eyes close for a second before you feel his hand insistently rubbing at your cheek and temple.
“Open your eyes,” he rasps, obviously on the brink of losing control of himself. “I want to see those beautiful eyes when you come.”
You oblige and it’s just in time as you go to pieces, your muscles spasming and squeezing tight around him. And it’s only seconds before you feel him come hot and wet inside you, gradually slowing his movements until the two of you are still, hands running over each other as you catch your breath.
He finally rises, pushing himself down the bed and lifting one of your legs over his. You’ve never seen that look on his face before, like he can’t process what has just happened or how he’s feeling about it. He just sits there, stroking your leg as his expression goes through a series of subtle changes until his eyes come to rest on your pussy.
He’s not making any effort to conceal the hunger in his stare. His hand drifts up your thigh and he strokes at the apex of it with a calloused thumb.
“It’s perfect,” he mumbles. “Fucking perfect. The color, the shape, those gorgeous thick lips. It’s like I never want to look at anything else.”
“I don’t think anyone’s ever said anything like that to me before.”
“I wish I had. I wish I’d said it every time you let me have it.” He squeezes at the flesh just a little and teases pushing a couple of fingers inside. “I want to take a picture.”
“No way.”
“I know, I know. I’d just love to take a picture and send it to him so he could see what he’s missing. So he could see how beautiful it looks with my cum leaking out of it.”
You spring up and try to push yourself away but he instantly has a tight grip on your leg and gives a sharp bite to the inside of your knee.
“I’ll bet he was a good little boy,” he sighs, resting his head against your thigh. “I’ll bet he wore a condom for you so that you felt nice and safe.”
You can’t even speak, you're so angry.
“He did, didn’t he?”
“It’s none of your goddamned business, Jay.” You glare at him, wanting to wipe that infuriating smile off his face forever. “Yes, we used condoms. A lot of them.”
“Oh of course. I forgot what an amazing lover he is. All sweet and attentive.”
“Not as sweet as you think, asshole. But you’re right about amazing. Like I said, the best-“
“No, he isn’t.” He pushes the heel of his hand against your pussy, stimulating the nerves without making it physically painful. “Did you tell him you let me fuck you without a condom? That you stay on birth control for me?”
“Funny,” you sneer, “it didn’t come up.”
He stares at you, flicking his tongue over his lips.
“Why do you always have to be such an asshole?” You groan.
“Would you still be here if I wasn’t?”
That hits you like a glass of ice water and while you’re trying to think of a retort, he pulls you up onto his lap and starts peppering you with kisses like he hasn’t just behaved like a monster.
“You think I’m joking but I’m not,” he whispers. “I’m not letting you go away. I’m not going to settle for being the second most important man in your life. “
“I don’t think it would bother you if you weren’t thinking you were about to come second to David Finlay. Again.”
He locks his arm around you and stands up in one smooth movement. You know how hard he works on his body and how strong he is but your jaw still drops a little at how effortless it is. He doesn’t even have to hold you particularly tight to support your whole weight.
“What do you think you’re doing?” You croak.
“I’m not done with you yet.”
And with that, he whisks you off to his adjoining room.

Note
Hello again, I hope you are doing ok! I got my parents to vote by mail instead of in person and we are filling out our ballots today. If you want to write, something on the feeling of each other’s hands? You are amazing as always, and I love seeing you on my dash 💜
this is only sort of inspired by your prompt but....(also thank you <333)
----
Foggy takes Matt’s hand to pull him up from where he’s sprawled out, a little drunk and a lot tired, on their floor, and notices the callouses as soon as Matt tightens his fingers and stands up.
“. . .do you play guitar?” he asks.
“Oh,” Matt says, surprised. “Kind of. How did you know?”
The most accurate answer is that he got a handjob from a guy who played guitar last semester but a simple, “Callouses,” is probably best for Matt’s sensibilities.
“Oh, right,” Matt says. “I haven’t played in awhile. I’ve never had my own guitar, I’ve just used them when they’ve been around.”
“I have a guitar!” Foggy says, too enthusiastically, his MAYBE I CAN MAKE MATT HAPPY alarms ringing loud in his head.
“Do you?” Matt asks, smiling.
“I thought it would make me cool in high school,” Foggy says, “but I didn’t want to be cool as much as I didn’t want to learn how to play guitar so it’s just been sitting in my closet at home for years. I can get it for you.”
“You don’t have to,” Matt says, which is Matt’s response to being offered anything but Foggy has more or less learned how to tell when he actually wants something.
“I wanna hear your tunes, dude,” Foggy says. “I’m going to hang out with my mom this weekend, anyway. You should come and let her feed you. She’s obsessed with you.”
“I don’t think your mom is obsessed with me,” Matt says, laughing.
“Obsessed,” Foggy says. “I can guarantee can I adopt my unimpressive son’s charming adult friend is in her Google history somewhere. Also, if you come, we’ll get, like, ten times the amount of leftovers sent back with us and be free of the dining hall food for the rest of the week.”
Matt’s quiet for a long moment before he nods, solemnly.
“Okay,” he says. “I’m in.”
*
“Your mom is really nice,” Matt says, a little helplessly, holding onto Foggy’s elbow as they walk upstairs to his room after an afternoon baking cookies with his mom, who hugged Matt so tightly when they got there that it made him blush for, like, half an hour.
“She’s pretty cool,” Foggy agrees, opening the door to his room and going in first to kick anything on the floor out of the way. “Okay, there’s a clear path to my bed straight ahead if you want to grab a seat. I’ll find the guitar.”
“I should probably warn you that I only know how to play, like, hymns,” Matt says, hesitantly, walking forward to find Foggy’s bed before settling down on the edge. “And maybe a Beatles song.”
“Hey, I love a Beatles song,” Foggy says, pushing boxes aside until he can finally grab the cheap acoustic guitar from the back of his closet, dusting it off as much as he can with a stray t-shirt before he hands it off to Matt. “Alright, all yours.”
He sits down at his desk chair, turning it around to watch Matt orient himself, strumming once before he makes a face and starts tuning it. Foggy shouldn’t get so much joy out of just watching Matt do stuff but his concentration face is really cute and that’s not Foggy’s fault.
“Okay,” Matt murmurs. “Let me see what I remember.”
Matt plays a few stray chords and then cautiously plays “Blackbird,” which Foggy doesn’t recognize until Matt starts singing because Matt starts singing. He’s not great but soft and sweet, rough around the edges, and Foggy’s so stunned that he doesn’t realize that Matt’s stopped until Matt says, “Uhm. . .was that okay?”
“Yeah,” Foggy whispers, then shakes his head. “I mean, that was. It was. Yeah.”
“. . .you can tell me if I suck,” Matt says, laughing and sitting the guitar down beside him. “It won’t hurt my feelings.”
“You don’t suck,” Foggy says. “You’re. . .god, Matt, you’re amazing.”
“Okay, I’m definitely not amazing. . .” Matt starts.
“Not the guitar,” Foggy interrupts him. “I mean, it was good but I meant. . .everything about you. You’re amazing. I think I might be more obsessed with you than my mom is.”
Well, that was something he never, ever planned to say out loud.
". . .forget I said that,” he says, weakly, considering lying down on the floor and never getting up. “I liked your song.”
“. . .can I teach you something?” Matt asks, smiling when Foggy looks up again. “Come over here.”
Foggy’s shaking but he tries to be cool as he sits down next to Matt and takes the guitar, holding it how Matt shows him and almost swallowing his tongue when Matt makes a soft noise and moves to sit behind Foggy instead, pressing up carefully against his back and putting his arms around him to adjust his position.
“Matt?” he asks.
Matt’s breath is warm on his face when he presses a quick kiss to Foggy’s cheek.
“I’ll show you how to play a D,” he says, like he didn’t just change everything, chin resting on Foggy’s shoulder as he moves Foggy’s fingers. “That’ll be easy.”

Jealous
Do Not read if you are uncomfortable with NSFW
Warning: Female reader, Rough Sex, Aftercare, sensory deprivation, light BDSM (Handcuffs), marking, oral sex, Dom Yaku, Sub reader, Jealousy, multiple orgasms, teasing, orgasm denial, porn with plot.
 Prompt: You have a secret relationship with Yaku Morisuke, being the manager of the Nekoma team you both agreed that it would be best to keep it secret. This leads to some complications, when a certain silver haired boy asks you out in front of the entire team. Someone isn't very happy about this and he’s willing to spill who you belong to.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Thats when it happen. You are talking to Kuroo about team stuff, organising practice matches and the training camp coming up quite quickly. Thats when it happen, Lev interrupts your conversation with Kuroo with a loud, boisterous confession in the middle of the gym, everyone turns their heads. Yaku is PISSED, but he doesn't do anything at that moment. you reject his confession politely and resume on with practice. When practice ends you and Yaku both walk to his place, the tension is thick in the air, so thick it could be cut with a knife. You try to talk to him but he doesn’t respond, he’s too mad about what happened in practice.
When you both get to his house, his parents are gone. which he thinks is perfect because then he doesn't have to hold back. When you both walk into his room, you don’t even have time to process what is happening, your pinned against his door, his mouth immediately finding yours. The kiss is passionate and rough, makes you weak to the knees, your whimpering into the kiss and he doesn't stop. After a few minutes he parts from your mouth, giving you both some air to breathe.
He grabs the back of your thighs and lifts you up, he sits in-between your thighs and pins you against the door, he starts to kiss you again, rougher, but somehow sweeter. He kisses you as if you're gonna leave you, after a while he starts to kiss down your neck, nibbling a little. he leaves many hickeys on you during this time. sucking in just the right spots to make your moans slowly get louder, and he’s loving it.
After this ordeal he throws you onto the bed, and walks over to his closet to get the handcuffs and blindfold, when you see these you, know your in trouble. and that's when it hits you, he’s jealous of Lev. he shouldn't be jealous but you also really like this side of him. maybe you should make him jealous more often.
he walks back over and confirms “you remember the safe word, right?” “of course I do, its cactus” you reply back. He hums in satisfaction. your really looking forward to tonight. You both strip down to your underwear, your only wearing a plain black bra and underwear. but to him, you look ravishing. once you are both stripped down. he lays you back on the bed and blindfolds you. you relax into his touch as he gently touches your body. he puts your hands behind your back and handcuffs your hand there, you know exactly how tonight is going to go, and it makes you excited, chills are running down tour spine in excitement. he goes back to kissing you, kissing down your body until he reaches your cunt. He hums “hmm, look at how wet you are, no one would ever be able to make you feel this way, only me” he plays with you over your underwear, teasing you, he licks a from your hole to your clit over your underwear, making you whimper even more, “so needy”
after a little while of teasing you through your underwear he finally pulls them down your legs, and goes in, sucking on your clit instantly. you make a loud pornographic like moan, he hums in satisfaction which makes you moan more. you feel your orgasm coming close, you warn him “Mori- I-I’m gonna c-um” as soon as he hears this he this he stops, you whimper, wanting him to let you cum “your not gonna cum until I say you can” and then he moves away, you lose track of time until you feel him come back, he goes back to kissing your neck, his hand trials down to your sopping wet cunt. he inserts a finger in, slowly pumping it in and out of your cunt. your moans come out soft, and this isn't what he wants. he wants you to scream his name.
You once again feel and orgasm coming, and he feels this, your cunt clenching around his finger, he stops, he’s not ready for you to orgasm yet, the nights only just started. you once again whimper, and when he hears it, his hard dick twitches, he wonders if it can get any harder than it is, it looks like his underwear is a tent he is that hard for you. he pulls off his underwear and unclips your bra, slightly freeing your boobs. He lines himself up with your wet pussy, “you ready?” he asks, you reply with a nod because that's all you can manage. He rubs his dick up and down your pussy, putting the tip at your entrance, putting it in slightly, and then pulling away, making you bed “please Mori, please I- I need you, Mori stop teasing” you manage. when he hears this he takes this as his queue to ram his dick into you, you gasp, followed by a moan.
He gives you some time to adjust, he may not he long but he is thick. after a few minutes you give him the go ahead to move, and when he has this he doesn't start slow, he does right for it, in between thrusts he says “No one. Can. Make. You. Feel. This. Good.” he may not be able to see but he can tell that your eyes will be rolling back, he can tell because he knows how to please you. You can feel him so deep inside you, the tip of his dick touching your cervix and it feels amazing. You feel another orgasm approaching, this time you beg, you want to cum and not have it ruined. “Please Mori- Please let me cum” you beg, “Please, I’ve been a good girl- I won’t go near Lev again- I promise” you say, this time he’s feeling generous, he loves how your tight walls feel around him, clenching around his thick dick. “cum princess” he says, and as soon as you hear that you come on the spot. you come so hard that even under the blindfold you can see stars.
Even after you cum he doesn't stop, he keeps going at a relentless pace “I’m going to make you cum over and over again until your a babbling mess, you understand”. You nod, you nod so fast. He continues his relentless pace, chasing another high for you, which comes quickly, your mind foggy from the overstimulation, you can't stop moaning. The overstimulation brings you closer to your second orgasm, having him denied the first orgasm and the overstimulation bring you over the edge, feeling him deep inside of you makes you feel amazing.
He loves feeling your walls spasm around him made him groan with pleasure, right in your ear, which really sent you over the edge. Yaku was getting closer to his orgasm too, he was drowning in the feeling of your tight, gummy walls which brings him closer to the end, but he is determined to make you cum one more time so as he keeps pounding into you, he grabs one of your legs over his shoulder and his hand slides down to your clit. The pleasure is unbearable, even though you’ve just cum you can already feel another orgasm approaching.  But this time you both cum together, “Can I cum inside you baby” you hear him groan out, all you can manage to repeat “yes, yes, yes, yes” and this is all he needed to hear. You both cum together, he pushes his dick deep inside, nearly touching your cervix, making your eyes roll back when you feel his warm, thick cum inside.
He doesn’t pull out for a while, basking in the feeling of both your orgasms, but after a few minutes he does pull out, walking into the bathroom attached to his room to grab a cloth to clean you up, “I'm going to be back, and run you a bath. did you want anything to drink? eat?” “I’m ok, will you have a bath with me?” you inquired. He chuckled a little and nodded. He left to run the bath for you, and while you waited all you could do is think about how much he loves you. After the bath, you both laid in bed, you wrapped in his arms. You both fell into a blissful sleep.

———-
‘How did I end up in this situation?’ Was the first thought that went through Charlotte Roselei’s mind. She had decided to take a much needed break from her girls, now mind you she loves the girls in her squad, but sometimes they could be a bit...much. Normally, Charlotte wouldn’t be caught dead in a place like this and yet here she was. She had been to this bar on one other occasion and it was with the other Captains. From what she understood it was where Yami Sukehiro, the Black Bulls captain, liked to frequent. Which was definitely not the reason she decided to stop by. Nope. The thought never even crossed her mind. Charlotte had only decided to come here on a whim, there was certainly no ulterior motive. That’s what she told herself at least.
Charlotte wondered how long it had been since she had last seen Yami. Maybe a month? Maybe longer if she were to guess. A part of her was thankful she hadn’t seen him as she always seemed to make a complete fool out of herself when he was around, but the other part of her, seemed to truly miss him and the way he made her heart race when he looked at her. Charlotte held her drink in between her hands, debating on whether taking a drink would help her relax a bit or if it would only inhibit her reaction if some man tried to make a pass at her or if they were suddenly attacked. Finally coming to the decision that a couple of sips wouldn’t hurt, she took the glass in her hand and took a drink.
Charlotte swore she only had two sips. Two sips! Yet somehow her head was kinda foggy, she felt somewhat sleepy, and warm. Like her face and body was next to a heater. Charlotte shook her head as though it would clear the fog, but all it did was make her dizzy. ‘In this situation, the best course of action would be to go home.’ She thought with a firm nod and she made her way off the bar stool and towards the tavern door, maybe she would have better luck seeing Yami at a future meeting with the Wizard King. Suddenly, Charlotte ran into some solid force that nearly knocked her over. ‘Good job Charlotte, you’re so wrapped up in thinking about Yami Sukehiro that you forgot to open the door!’ She berated herself until the door reached out and grabbed her arm to steady her. ‘Wait...doors don’t have arms!’ Charlotte instantly followed the arm to its owner and she felt her heart speed up and her face begin to flush even more.
“ Hey Prickly Princess, you alright?” Came the voice of Yami Sukehiro, the person she had been waiting two hours for. She blinked up at him, she thought for a split second she saw concern in his eyes but decided it was a figment of her drunk imagination. Charlotte pulled her arm out of his grasp and crossed them.
“ I’m fine Yami, I’m just headed back to the head quarters. I’ll see you at the next meeting yes?” She asked, hoping he wouldn’t notice the slight slur in her voice.
“Uh, sure. See you than I guess.” Yami said unsure as he moved away from the door to allow her to leave. She gave him a small nod and walked out the door, but not before slightly tripping over the threshold.
Yami stared after her, was she drunk? Her slightly slurred speech, her glossy eyes, and for sure her flushed face indicated she was. Yami began to walk over to the bar before he stopped, ‘Should I go after her?’ Yami asked himself. Charlotte was a strong woman, she could handle herself if she needed too, that he was more than sure of. She could take out an entire army if she were inclined to do so, but a small part of him wondered if she would truly be alright, that she wouldn’t somehow trip and fall into the water canal or something. Yami began to chuckle at the image of Charlotte falling into the water and her reaction, and as much as he would be amused to see that he eventually sighed and turned around.
Charlotte couldn’t believe she let the opportunity to talk to Yami slip from her fingers, that was the reason she even went to that stupid tavern! But she was so embarrassed that he saw her like this she felt she had to get out of their immediately. ‘Maybe this is all he and I are meant to be. Nothing more than colleagues.’ It was a sad thought but it made sense to her, it seemed like the universe was doing everything it could to keep her from confessing to him. Oh well, I didn’t need a man before and I certainly don’t need one now.’ Charlotte nodded firmly before instantly regretting it, the world began to spin again. Just as she was about to lose her footing, a pair of strong arms grabbed her. Instantly Charlotte whipped around and punched her would be attacker square on the jaw, she wasn’t going to go anywhere without a fight. After her attacker let go, Charlotte moved to her fighting stance, ready for an attack but she was shocked when he stood up straight and she was looking into a pair of familiar grey eyes.
“ Y-Yami?” Charlotte relaxed and looked at him, even in the dim street lantern she could see a black eye forming on his face.
“ That was one hell of a punch princess.” Yami said as he rubbed his sore face, she scoffed.
“ You doubted my strength?” She asked crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes at him.
“ No, I just never thought I’d be on the receiving end of one of your famous Roselei punches is all.” Charlotte slightly blushed at this and dropped her arms.
“ I’m sorry, I should’ve looked before punching you.” Yami waved her apology away as he walked towards her.
“ It’s fine, c’mon prickly princess, I’ll walk you back to your head quarters.” He walked past her as he said this, Charlotte whipped around to look at him.
“ I don’t need anyone to escort me home.” She told him, although a small voice in her head tried to encourage her to let him escort her home.
“ I know that, you’re one of the strongest people I know. So I believe you can handle yourself but,” Yami turned to look at her. “ I’d feel a lot better knowing you made it there safely myself.” Charlottes face flushed even more at his words, she knew Yami rarely showed people how much he cared for them so she felt truly honored to hear him say that. As she was about to thank him for his concern he continued.
“ Plus the last thing we need is you tripping and falling into some sink hole or something.” Charlotte glared at him and began to walk forward. ‘And here I was thinking he was actually concerned about me!’ She shook her head, she really needed to stop doing that because the world began spinning again. Charlotte stumbled into Yami and she didn’t think her face could get any more red.
“ How much have you had to drink?” Yami asked while keeping Charlotte steady, she looked up at him as she tried to think.
“Half a glass maybe.” She told him, Yami blinked a couple of times at her.
“Half a glass?” He asked and when she nodded in confirmation he sighed and put her arm around his shoulder and began to help her walk. “ You really are a light weight huh?” He added with a chuckle and all Charlotte could do was glare.
“ I’m sorry not everyone has the same alcohol tolerance as you.” Again Yami chuckled and Charlotte couldn’t help but laugh along with him.
‘How did I end up in this situation?’ Was the first thought that went through Charlotte's mind, her arm wrapped around Yami’s shoulder, him helping her walk back to her head quarters, all because she couldn’t hold her liquor. She and Yami had walked in silence for a while, she had been too embarrassed to start a conversation. She hated that Yami saw her like this, saw that she was so weak that she needed help walking, she hated it. She couldn’t even look at him, so she either kept her gaze on the ground or straight ahead.
“ What were you doing at the tavern anyway?” Yami asked her suddenly, Charlotte quickly looked up at him surprised by his question. “ It’s not really a place you frequent.”
“I...” She began, really unsure of how to answer him, in this state her brain couldn’t really come up with a good excuse so she decided to go with the truth. “ I went there to see you.”
“ To see me? What for?” Yami asked curiously, he couldn’t think of a reason as to why the Captain of the Blue Rose knights would want to see him. As Charlotte’s face flushed even more Yami began to wonder if she had actually had more than one drink.
“ I just haven’t seen you in a while and I wanted to see if you were ok.” She told him softly as she looked away again, Yami stopped walking and looked down at her.
“ You know you could’ve come by the hide out at anytime,” He told her “ so I don’t think that’s the only reason you wanted to see me.” Charlotte blinked, sometimes she could truly forget how perceptive he was. She continued to stare at the ground, hoping it would offer her some answers. If she was being completely honest with herself, she had gone to the bar to not only get away from her girls for a bit, but she also wanted to confess her feelings for Yami.
“ Actually,” Charlotte straightened herself up and looked him square in the eyes. “ there was something else.” This was it. She was finally going to tell Yami Sukehiro how she felt.
“ Ok, go ahead than.” Yami gave her his undivided attention and she couldn’t help but feel very nervous as she stared into his grey eyes. She cleared her throat before she began to speak.
“Yami Sukehiro I lo-“ Suddenly, the world began to dim ‘W-what’s going on? No. Nononono. NO! Not know, why’d it have to be right before I told him I loved him?’ Her voice screamed inside her head as the entire world went dark.
Charlotte Roselei had passed out.
“Hey! Hey Charlotte! Are you ok?” Yami quickly caught her before she could fall, concern etched on his face. When he realized she had only passed out he let out a sigh of relief, he than picked her up and carried her in his arms as he began to walk back to her head quarters. A small chuckle slipped past his lips.
“ Someone really needs to teach you how to hold your liquor better Prickly Princess.”
~~~~~~
The next morning, Charlotte woke up with a pounding headache. She was unable to recall the previous nights events, she knew she had gone to the tavern and had waited for Yami but after that it was all a blur. She looked towards the door as Sol knocked before entering. A wave of relief washed over the young girls face.
“Oh good you’re finally awake Char!” Sol said happily as she hand her Captain a glass of water before sitting down in a chair next to her bed.
“ I told you, call me Captain.” If Charlotte had a gold coin for every time she had to remind Sol of this, she would probably be richer than the King of the Clover Kingdom.
“ Whatever you say Captain Char!” Sol replied cheerfully and all Charlotte could do was sigh as she put her glass on the table next to her bed.
“ Sol, how did I end up back here?” Charlotte noticed the young girls face redden slightly before she answered.
“ U-Um...well.” Sol scratched the back of her head nervously as she recounted the previous night.
As all the memories of the previous night flooded back into Charlotte Roselei’s head when Sol began to explain, the entire Capital could hear the embarrassed scream that came from the Blue Rose Knights head quarters.
——
I’m sorry it’s not that good, there was more I wanted to add like a small scene between Sol and Yami but I might make that a small drabble or something. I just feel like I could’ve done better with this 😞. I also think I rushed the ending a bit too. But hopefully you guys maybe enjoyed it! If anyone wants to be added to the tag list please let me know! I hope you all have a good day~!
“I Sleep and Dream of Snow” (orginally on my Ao3 profile)  * Contains Spoilers for season 3 of “Attack on Titan”
The winter will be rough this year , thought Levi as he gazed out the foggy window onto the gray surroundings. The first snow was yet to come, but he doubted it would be far off. Wind was already screaming down from the mountains, sweeping across the sheltered valley where the small cabin nestled under the barren trees like skeletons in the mountain’s shadow. This was the same cabin where he had hidden with his new squad, a few months previously, before Queen Historia had claimed her throne, before they had regained honor for the scouts, and before retaking Shiganshina.
So much had happened, it was hard to believe only a few months encompassed the biggest changes to their world within the walls. A new Queen, a new squad, and now a new commander as well…
Levi’s eye twitched slightly as he thought of Erwin’s lifeless body, still in Shiganshina, blue eyes once so full of dreams, an icy fury that looked ever onwards, now just a memory. He shivered there before the window, the threat of winter already creeping into his bones.
“We can’t always carry our fallen comrades home, but we can carry their memories.”
The words he had spoken to a grieving soldier had echoed too many times in his head this past year. He was used to loss, but the words now sounded almost mocking, his memories laughing atop the mountain of bodies, lifeless eyes whose gleams were already fading from his mind. The cold ache had settled even deeper now, refusing to recede, winter’s cruel whisper brushing against the boundaries of his body and mind. He shivered again, whether from the cold or from the lingering echoes in his head, he couldn’t tell. The echo was turning into a headache now, dull pain behind his eyes making his limbs feel leaden and heavy, not helped by the bulky ODM gear that weighed him down under his cloak.
A shout from outside jolted him from his thoughts. He stepped away from the window calling out as he went, “Commander Hange is here! Get ready!”
A few shouts of “Yes sir!” echoed clumsily from upstairs.
Levi walked outside, his shoulders tensing uncomfortably when he was met with a chill wind. “Jean!” he called to the tall boy in the lookout tower, sandy-brown hair tousled by the wind. “Is it Commander Hange?”
“Yes Captain,” replied Jean. “They appear to be alone.”
Good, thought Levi. Good that no more than necessary see this. Too many soldiers and government officials resented Levi’s decision to save Armin instead of Erwin. Why was a timid boy’s life more valuable than their esteemed and experienced commander? And why had that pivotal decision been entrusted to an underground lowlife like Levi?
At first they had thought to keep the specifics of Shiganshina a secret from the populace, but that was impossible. That idiot Floch didn’t know how to keep his mouth shut. Levi was glad at least that he had stayed behind to recruit more MP’s into the scout’s ranks instead of coming here with the rest of Shiganshina’s heroes. Isolating as it was out here, he was glad not to hear the endless complaining, making his guilt over Erwin’s death all the more painful.
Not that it isn’t painful already, he admitted as Armin’s small figure came slowly outside, followed by Eren, Mikasa, Connie and Sasha. Armin’s blue eyes were watery in the chill wind, blue and full of hope, just as Erwin’s had been long ago.
“Hey Connie! It’s your watch now!” said Jean, hopping down from the tower, wrapping his cloak tighter around himself.
“Ugh, fine,” said Connie, walking over towards the wooden tower.
“No,” said Eren, “I’ll take watch, you can go with the others Connie.”
“Um...okay…” said Connie, confused.
Levi furrowed his brow as he watched Eren climb up into the watchtower. Why does he want to be on lookout duty so badly? Probably just sulking. Eren had been in a bad mood ever since the memorial ceremony. He was sullen and withdrawn around the others, even with Armin and Mikasa. Levi shuddered. It's probably nothing. Not everything is a threat, he’s a teenager, they’re like that most of the time.
“How far is Hange?” asked Levi as Jean sauntered up beside him.
“A couple miles,” he replied. “They should be here soon.” Jean lowered his voice to a whisper, glancing back at Eren, “what’s up with him?”
Levi frowned, still uneasy but apathetic. The last thing he needed was to fuel Jean and Eren’s rivalry. They were good friends but sometimes even the faintest animosity could become irritating to be around. I’m too tired to deal with their childish antics today.
Sure enough, Hange’s steed galloped down the narrow path and jolted to a halt.
“Levi!” they exclaimed excitedly. “It’s good to see you looking cheerful as always.” Their hair was messy from the wind, and they hastily brushed it away from their face where it had tangled in their glasses and knotted under their eyepatch..
Levi grunted in reply. “I see you came alone.”
Hange nodded. “Now, are we ready to start?”
They glanced over at Armin, whose blue eyes were wide and unblinking. He looked incredibly nervous. Levi couldn’t help but notice how he tried to hide his shaking hands under his cloak.
Eren on the other hand, was expressionless beside him, green eyes downcast. Mikasa eyed him worriedly, but he paid her no notice as he walked over to the watchtower.
“Let’s go then,” said Levi, leading them down toward the cliff face where they had tried this same experiment on Eren earlier that year.
Levi pulled his cloak tighter around his shoulders, shivering still. Dark clouds were gathering at the top of the mountain. Levi narrowed his eyes concernedly, “Hange, I don’t like the look of those clouds.”
“Hmmm,” they said, narrowing their eyes. “We’ll have to hurry then.”
“Are you sure we shouldn’t just wait?” Levi replied.
“If it snows we won’t be able to do this again for awhile, and I can’t be away for too long. Besides...” they added, their voice rising to the pitch that Levi recognized as a signal that a theory was forming in their mind.
“What?” he asked, not sure if he was going to regret it.
“I’m interested to see how cold weather will affect the transformation, and if it rains or snows or whatever it does, it might have an impact on the titan steam….” they trailed off, clearly mulling over possibilities in their mind.
Levi sighed and glanced back at the squad. Sasha, Connie and Jean were chatting distractedly in the rear, Mikasa walking solemnly in front of them, glancing occasionally through her shadowy curtain of hair, backward towards where Eren sulked in the watchtower. Armin looked even more terrified than he had before. His eyes darted back and forth cautiously, like blue rippled under a sudden wind.
Levi slowed a bit to allow the boy a chance to catch up with him.
“Sir,” he squeaked, startled to see Levi beside him, looking away quickly. He knew that Armin also carried the guilt of Erwin’s sacrifice. The fault was far from his though, but Levi could understand how apprehensive he probably was. He had a large legacy to carry on his shoulders, and nearly the whole army blaming him for it.
“Don’t worry Armin,” said Levi earnestly. “Hange knows what they’re doing, you’ll be fine.”
“Th-thank you sir,” stuttered Armin, “i-it’s not Hange I’m worried about sir, it’s…”
“You have a lot of expectations to live up to,” finished Levi.
Armin hung his head. “Y-yes sir.”
Levi sighed again. “At the end of the day, it was my decision to make. You’re young, you have a good head on your shoulders, give it a chance to dream. That was what Erwin did best…” Levi stopped, for he could see the cliff face looming up ahead.
“Here we are!” said Hange, running ahead to look down.
Armin gulped. Levi gave him a reassuring nod, and they followed Hange to the cliff edge.
“Positions everyone!” said Hange. They all obeyed, leaping to their vantage points on the clifftop.
“We have to hurry,” pointed out Levi, glancing up at the clouds uneasily.
Hange nodded. “Yes. Ok Armin, we’re ready when you are!”
Armin nodded, pale and shaky. He closed his eyes, and took a run towards the cliff edge. He jumped off the side, ODM gear on.
Levi braced himself. Did it work? He wondered as a few silent moments passed. But he quickly retracted that thought, because a loud bang resounded upwards with a steam blast.
“Hange!” He shouted. “Can you see anything?”
“No!” they replied, eyeing the steam dangerously, the thrill in their eyes unmistakeable.
“I can’t hear him!” shouted Jean.
“It’s only steam, no titan,” added Sasha.
“Armin!” shouted Connie, “Can you hear us?”
Levi could see Mikasa perched on the edge, looking as uneasy as Levi felt. She was doubtless wondering why Eren didn’t want to see his best friend transform into the colossal titan for the first time, but equally worried about Armin below.
A loud boom sounded behind them. Levi smelled rain as a cold blast of wind slammed into him, almost sending him off balance.
“Hange…!” he shouted, a tone of warning creeping into his voice.
“I hear it,” Hange replied. “Armin!” they screamed. “Armin where are you?”
There was no reply, only more thunder as the steam rose from the ground.
Levi felt a few drops of cold rain hit his face. Not quite cold enough for snow yet but it still stung like blades of ice.
“Armin!” cried Mikasa, craning her neck to see through the layers of steam. The rain was getting heavier, sizzling as it struck the ground below.
“There!” shouted Sasha. Levi looked where she pointed, seeing a patch of red where the rain was clearing the steam. He narrowed his eyes and squinted to see better.
“It’s too hot to cut him out,” said Hange, “We need to let the rain cool it down first.”
Damn this would have been a great moment for Eren to stop acting like a moody brat and come help us out.
Levi frowned. “Was this your plan all along?” he didn’t even try to hide the annoyance in his voice.
“...Not exactly, but it is working in our favor now,” they replied, watching the steam clear below, revealing more of a pitifully misshapen red titan, miniscule in size in comparison to the colossal titan that had broken down Wall Maria.
“Armin,” croaked Mikasa nervously, about to leap down. Levi placed an arm in front of her. “No. It’s not safe yet.”
She hung her head, resigning herself to the truth in his words.
“Look! Commander, Captain!” Connie shouted.
“It’s Armin! He’s emerging!” added Sasha.
“Right, I’m going to retrieve him,” said Levi. It was dangerously hot down there, only he had the necessary speed to grab the boy quickly and get him out.
“I’m coming too!” insisted Mikasa.
“Fine,” grumbled Levi. She can manage, and it might be helpful to have an extra set of hands if we have to cut him out.
“Be careful!” said Hange, absentminded, meaning that their thoughts were clicking mechanically in their brain.
Levi and Mikasa leaped down, weaving between bilows of steam carefully. He could see Armin’s yellow hair glinting dully in the red mist of steam and drizzle.
They landed on the body, where the rain had cooled the surface enough so that he could cut Armin out. Armin’s eyes stared blankly upwards, red marks beneath them, tears welling in those pools of blue.
“Help me cut him out, quickly!” said Levi.
Mikasa sawed at the sinews with her blades while Levi lifted Armin out from the steaming carcass. His cloak had completely burned off, leaving only his thin shirt, burned and tattered in several places. The ODM gear was still trapped inside the titan.
“It’ll be damaged beyond repair; leave it behind” said Levi, sensing Mikasa’s thoughts.
“Right,” she nodded and focused on cutting Armin’s legs free.
The rain was coming down hard now, icy cold and stinging as it danced violently in the wind.
Mikasa finished cutting the sinews, and they leaped upward against the cliff-face with their gear, Levi carrying Armin’s limp form under one arm. They made it to the top, where the others were waiting anxiously.
“Wh-what happened?” asked Sasha concernedly looking at Armin.
“We can theorise later, let’s focus on getting out of this rain!” said Levi, removing his own cloak to wrap around Armin.
Damn this rain is cold.
“Hange come on!” They were still staring over the cliff edge thoughtfully.
“What?” They said. “Oh, right, let’s go!”
They all walked quickly back to the house, Armin being carried by Levi as the rain grew icier around them.
Levi was thankful in that moment for the titan heat radiating from Armin’s body. His face and hands were numb from the cold, and his clothes were becoming soaked through.
They made it back to the house.
“Eren!” shouted Hange, “Get inside! You won’t be able to see in this weather anyway.”
Eren leaped down from the watchtower, still brooding. Seriously, what’s up with him?
They all stumbled inside, dripping wet, slamming the door behind them.
Sasha let out a long sigh, “I’m soooooo hungry!”
“Ugh I’m too cold to be hungry,” complained Jean.
Eren ignored them and went straight over to the hearth to start building a fire. He half glanced at Armin, a pained expression in his eyes, avoiding Mikasa’s stare that followed him like a shadow as he placed logs in the fire.
Levi placed Armin down into a seated position in one of the chairs by the fire, removing his cloak and hanging it by the door. Armin’s tattered clothing had luckily remained relatively dry under the protective wool.
As everyone else hung their cloaks, Levi noticed that they, too, had avoided most of the icy rain.
Hange shook their head, scattering a few droplets and walked straight over to Armin.
I need to get out of these wet clothes, thought Levi. He shivered, his shirt stuck tight against his body, hair dripping icy water into his eyes.
“Captain you’re soaked!” exclaimed Sasha as she carried the kettle to the stove.
“Hmph, I hadn’t noticed,” he grumbled dryly.
“Someone needs to get some dry clothes for Armin,” said Hange.
“On it!” said Connie, sprinting away.
Levi stood, almost dazed, looking at how Eren was building up the fire. Something was definitely off with him, and he worried that it was something more than just teenage angst.
“Uh, Captain, are you ok?” asked Jean’s voice behind him.
“Hmmm…?” Levi blinked. “Yeah I’m fine…” his words were slow; numb along with everything else.
“You really should take those wet clothes off captain,” said Mikasa, arriving beside him carrying some blankets from upstairs.
“Hmmm, yeah…” he shook his head hazily and walked slowly towards his room.
His hands were stiff as he undid the buttons and endless belt loops that attached the ODM gear to his body. When that weight left him, he swayed slightly, dizzy with the release. He finally managed to remove the rest of his soaking wet clothes, which had stuck to his skin like ice, wondering if he would ever feel warm again.
He came back to the main room, wearing dry clothes, but still shivering. Sasha, Connie and Jean were laying out teacups and bread and butter on the table. Eren still stared moodily into the fire, ignoring the rest of them, while Mikasa sat next to Armin, wrapping him in a blanket and Hange scribbled in their notebook.
Mikasa stood and walked over to Levi. She handed him a blanket and he took it from her gratefully, hands numb and shaking. Not caring about anything else in that moment except warmth, he sat down in the chair between Armin and Hange, close to the fire.
Armin didn’t appear hurt, but there was a look of utter dejection on his face.
“It’s ok Armin, Eren had trouble his first time too! “ reassured Mikasa. “Right Eren?”
Eren turned at his name. “What? Oh yeah…” he quickly turned back around to stare at the flames.
Hange sighed quizzically, looking up from their notes. “It seems that mood clearly plays a role in one’s ability to transform. Eren always had trouble if he was feeling nervous or apprehensive, or unsure about something.” Hange directed their statements at Eren, but he didn’t look back in their direction.
“You’d better figure it out soon kid so we can get the hell out of this freezing cold bunker,” said Levi shakily, then he sneezed, quiet enough so that only Hange heard it. They narrowed their eyes at Levi skeptically but didn’t say anything.
“You have to be sure of yourself Armin. You have to envision the future you dream of, and you have to take hold of it with all your strength. If you hesitate, it’s all for nothing.” Eren’s voice sounded far away, even though he only stood a few feet away from Levi. It was the most he had heard the boy say for weeks.
“Well, yes…” said Hange, breaking the uncomfortable silence. “In less solemn terms than Eren just put it, you need to have a clear goal, and you need confidence!”
I know what’s wrong, thought Levi. It’s Erwin’s shadow. It’s still too tall for him to reach. That same tall, blue-eyed shadow echoed in Levi’s mind too. He knew what it felt like to be tasked with making someone’s life meaningful after they were gone.
Armin only sighed and shook his head. “I know, you’re trying to help and I appreciate it, I really do, but… I can’t help but wonder every day if you made the wrong decision Captain.”
Armin’s sad blue stare rose to meet Levi’s cold gray eyes. For a second, he thought he could see Erwin’s icy gaze, filled with stone cold-determination, but then the shadow faded to leave behind ripples in the terrified boy’s face.
“I didn’t make the wrong decision,” said Levi, trying to make his voice sound certain. “This is what Erwin would have wanted.” As he said this, he could almost see Erwin’s shadow again, nodding to his words behind Armin’s face.
Levi shivered and sneezed again, wrapping the blanket tighter around himself, feeling suddenly very tired. The feeling had started to sneak back into his limbs again, but now they were heavy with a dull ache that was settling deep into his whole body.
“Tea’s ready!” said Sasha.
Levi sighed and stood shakily to walk back over to the table, leaving the blanket behind. He poured himself a cup and sat down, still shivering. He held the cup in his hands, letting the warmth spread upward through his fingertips.
He was almost aware of the others clattering about chatting and eating all around him, but they were like shadows in the corner of his vision. I’m still so cold. Why can’t I get warm?
Hands shaking, Levi lifted the cup to his mouth, letting the hot liquid warm his insides. Someone pushed a plate towards him. He glanced over to see that it was Hange.
“You should eat,” they said, buttering a piece of bread for themself and sitting down beside him.
Levi ignored the bread and focused instead on drinking the tea in slow sips, willing it to make him stop shivering so visibly.
“The rain is turning into sleet,” observed Sasha, looking toward the window.
Levi looked and saw sheets of white slamming against the glass.
“Looks like you’ll need to stay the night here commander,” said Connie.
“Yes I suppose you’re right,” replied Hange. “I really did underestimate this weather didn’t I?”
Within the hour, the sleet had turned into snow, and it rattled relentlessly against the window panes.
Leaving his bread untouched, Levi washed his teacup and then wandered back over to the fire. Armin had fallen asleep, the red titan marks on his face already starting to fade.
“We should put him in bed,” said Levi, bending down to pick him up. His arms felt unusually weak though, which was strange. Why do my bones feel like they’re filled with ice. I hate rain...I’m too stiff to lift even this scrawny teenager!
“I can do it,” said Eren’s voice behind him.
“Go ahead,” said Levi, glancing at him sideways. Eren lifted one of Armin’s arms over his shoulder, and Mikasa rushed over to help. Together they carried their friend up to bed.
Levi sighed and edged closer to the fire. I hope I’m not this stiff tomorrow, there’s so much to do around here…
“You alright?” Asked Hange, kneeling down next to him. “You seem tired.”
He shivered again, picking up his discarded blanket from earlier. He avoided their question and said, “where will you sleep? With the rate of that snow outside, it looks like you might be stuck here for a few days at least.”
“Don’t worry about me! I always figure it out,” they replied. “Besides, I want to stay up a bit later to study my notes anyway.”
Levi nodded in reply and glanced over to the table where Jean, Connie and Sasha were still chatting. “Hey, make sure you clean up that mess when you’re done,” he remarked. Normally he would stay and do it himself, but Hange might have been right. He was tired. Even where he stood, he struggled to keep his eyes open. He would have to trust them to clean it properly, just this once…
“Captain can I have your bread?” Asked Sasha.
“Hmmm…? Yeah, fine…” he muttered, walking blearily towards his room. He sank onto his bed with a strange heaviness, shivering under the blankets, and let sleep take him.
When he was gone, Sasha exclaimed in a shocked whisper, “what? He never says yes! This is my lucky day!”
“Sasha you’re getting crumbs everywhere. We need to keep it clean or the Captain will freak out!” protested Jean.
Connie chimed in with, “Hey! Won’t you share?”
When the two had divided the bread between them, Jean remarked, “don’t you think it's weird though, Captain Levi never goes to bed early?”
Sasha was too immersed in her bread to hear him.
Connie shrugged. “I don’t know, it’s been a pretty long day, I wouldn’t worry too much.”
Jean frowned, looking out the window where the show was swirling out in the dark. “I hope you’re right.”
                                                 ***
Levi woke groggily. His throat burned and there was a heavy weight in his chest that made every part of his body ache. He groaned and got out of bed, shocked when he had to sit down again because a wave of dizziness almost sent him reeling.
He sighed, and that sigh turned into a dry cough that made his head throb.
Damn it, he cursed to himself. He made the decision to ignore his body screaming in protest, and put a clean shirt on with aggressive determination, preparing to go downstairs. This is nothing, I’m just chilled from yesterday, I just need to wake up a bit. He coughed again as he went carefully down the stairs.
Hange had woken up sitting stiffly in the chair by the fire, notes open across their lap. The coals had died down to ash. Someone had thrown a blanket across them at some point, they weren’t sure who. They yawned, stretched, and stood, looking out the window.
Well, looks like I won’t be making it back to HQ anytime soon. Snow was piled almost up to the window panes, the inside of the glass covered with frost. They shuddered and put a log on the dead fire, attempting to blow some life into it.
The kitchen had been tidied from the night before, but it was nowhere near spotless. A few crumbs still littered the floor where Connie and Sasha had battled over the captain’s bread.
He won’t be happy.
While they waited for the fire to grow, they pondered their notes again. Something was definitely holding Armin back...they had a feeling it was the pressure. The poor boy had Erwin’s whole legacy to uphold. Damn it Levi, I can’t believe you put him in this position.
Hange heard light footfalls on the steps accompanied by ragged breathing that stopped suddenly and was replaced by a rough, hollow sounding cough.
That doesn’t sound good…
“Where is everyone?” asked Levi hoarsely as he slowly walked into the room. “Lazy kids, just because it’s snowing doesn’t mean they get a break.” He looked out the window, noticing the empty watchtower blurred by the blinding light of the heavy snow on the ground. “We should get someone on lookout duty-” he ended the thought abruptly as he shook with coughing again.
Ignoring Hange’s eyebrows rising in concern, he went outside to fill the kettle with snow, shocked when he opened the door to see that it came all the way up to his shoulders. He cursed under his breath and shivered, filling it quickly and slamming the door shut. He put the kettle on the stove, his chest burning, unable to stifle the shaky cough that shuddered through his body again.
“Levi, I don’t like the sound of that cough,” said Hange, not hiding the concern in their voice.
“It's nothing,” he retorted. His eyes stopped, noticing a few crumbs on the floor where the scouts had been sitting the night before. Damn it, I thought I told them to clean up… He sighed in annoyance, but it came out as a cough, more painful than the last one.
“Levi….” began Hange. “Don’t worry about the crumbs, and don’t worry about the lookout! The snow will be too thick to see anyway. Besides, no one will be out stalking us in this weather.” They took a moment to look at his face, which was shadowed by the usual dark circles, but they were deeper today, and he was pale, his dark gray eyes glassy and distant.
He ignored them and went over to get the broom in the corner. He swept the crumbs away and started to make tea.
Hange shook their head. He was too stubborn. When the kettle boiled, they sat down together to let it brew.
“Are they seriously all still asleep?” Levi asked, shocked at how raspy his voice sounded. He was grateful for the warmth of the cup in his hands. He let the steam float up to his face and briefly relieve the throbbing in his head.
Hange shrugged, “Not everyone is an insomniac like you.”
He glared at them and shook his head. “Any epiphanies in your late night research?”
They took a deep breath. “Armin won’t be able to control his titan ability until he can escape the pressure of Erwin’s sacrifice.”
Levi nodded, “well he’d better figure it out soon-” he broke off, coughing again.
Hange opened their mouth to say something, but at that moment Mikasa came downstairs, followed by the others.
“Armin is still asleep,” she said as she sat down beside Hange.
“How is he?” Hange asked.
“He seems fine,” Mikasa continued, “the titan marks have faded at least.”
“Good, good…” Hange nodded, pouring themself another cup of tea.
Levi shot Sasha, Connie and Jean a subtle glare as they sat down at the table. “I thought I told you to clean up after-” but he broke off again, another rattling cough shaking his chest.
“I’m so sorry captain!” said Sasha, eyes wide.
“Wait, uh Captain Levi are you ok?” Asked Connie tentatively.
He was barely aware of their responses, and he didn’t catch the worried glances that shot between everyone seated at the table. He ignored them and sipped his tea in frustration, willing his hands to stop shaking, hoping that the warm liquid would subside the deep chill that was making his whole body ache.
He started feeling progressively worse throughout the day. He tried to keep himself busy, ignoring the pain in his head by sweeping the rest of the floor, assigning odd tasks to the scouts, and pointedly ignoring the way they were all looking at him.
Jean, Eren and Mikasa managed to clear a way to the stable to check on the horses. Hange decided that they didn’t need to bother with clearing a way to the watchtower. No one would be able to find them in this snow anyway. Levi narrowed his eyes uneasily, but Hange out-ranked him, so their word was what the scouts followed. He knew they were probably right. It was too cold out to keep watch safely, and there was no point staring at gray fields of snow for hours with no real threat.
He glanced out the window, half expecting more snow to start falling from the gray skies. He still remembered the first time he had seen snow. Mesmerized and terrified at those sparkling white drops that froze on impact, and looked like stars turned to dust. Farlan and Isabel never got to see snow. It almost seemed like the gray sky itself was scattering cold ash for all those who had never gotten to gaze at its beauty.
While the others cleared the snow in front of the door, Sasha and Connie chopped vegetables for soup, and Armin slept for most of the day. Hange tried to be useful around the house, hoping that everyone at HQ wasn’t too worried about them. There was no helping it though. It was hard enough to clear a path to the horses, forget trying to clear it all the way to the road. Hange was starting to get worried though, worried about Levi.
His cough started sounding worse as the day went on. At one point, Hange caught him staring out the window, shivering and gazing at something in a distant corner of his mind that only he could see.
“Levi,” they said gently, “come away from there, it's too cold!”
He didn’t respond, so they placed a hand on his shoulder. He flinched slightly, but didn’t protest when they guided him over to sit by the fire.
It should have warmed him, but he still shivered weakly, spots dancing before his eyes, almost like it was snowing inside the fire.
He was aware of Hange looking into his eyes, “Levi…” they said quietly, placing a hand on his forehead.
He started to brush them away, “what are you doing?”
“You’re burning up!” exclaimed Hange.
He sighed again, he hated other people fussing over him, but regretted it instantly because it sent him into another painful coughing fit.
“Levi, I’m worried about you,” said Hange, “you’re not well!”
Levi knew they were probably right, he wanted nothing more than to curl up in a ball in front of the fire and stay there forever, but he couldn’t possibly go rest; there was still too much to do, too much to think about, Erwin’s shadow was watching him, he needed to do it justice…
Erwin’s shadow walked down the stairs, but it was much smaller than Erwin. “Er, hello Commander, Captain,” he said.
Hange stood, “ah, our colossal awakens!”
Levi was puzzled. Erwin was tall, yes, but he was no titan, what was Hange talking about.
Hange noticed that Armin looked bleary-eyed from sleep, but otherwise fine. They were worried about Levi though. He looked at Armin with a pained, almost confused expression. He’s delirious…
“I’m so sorry,” said the small boy standing there with Erwin’s eyes. Yes, not Erwin, Erwin is dead Levi, get it together.
Levi opened his mouth to speak, but he couldn’t because his whole body was racked by shaking as he coughed again.
“Captain! Are you alright?” gasped Armin.
“He’s not,” said Hange. “Levi, I need you to go back to bed, and yes, that’s an order!”
Levi regarded them with dark gray eyes, misted over with a feverish glow. Too weak to protest, he stood up shakily and began to walk toward the stairs. Why is Hange giving me orders, he thought, confused, Where’s Erwin?  He stumbled and swayed where he stood. The whole room spun, and lights danced in his eyes, turning into shadows as he fell.
Armin and Hange reacted quickly. They caught him as he collapsed so he didn’t hit the floor.
“What happened to him?” Asked Armin, his voice high pitched with concern.
“What’s going on?” asked Sasha, peeking in from the kitchen, Connie close behind. They must have heard the commotion and come to investigate.
“I need you to bring me some cold water and a clean cloth,” said Hange.
Sasha’s eyes widened as she saw the unconscious Levi in between Armin and Hange’s arms. “Yes sir!” she disappeared into the kitchen to do what Hange asked.
“Connie, can you help me bring him upstairs?” said Hange.
“Yes sir,” said Connie, running over to take the captain’s limp form from Armin, who sighed with relief. He still hadn’t quite gotten his strength back from yesterday. “Armin, can you go check on our soup?” Armin nodded and wandered into the kitchen, glancing over his shoulder as he watched Connie and Hange carry Levi’s unconscious body between them up the stairs.
They placed him down on his bed. His eyelids fluttered slightly but he didn’t wake up. He was shivering weakly, but a thin gray sweat was coating the surface of his skin, sticking his dark hair to his head.
Sasha came back with cold water and a few dry kitchen towels. Hange took one from her and dipped in the basin, placing the cool cloth on Levi’s pale forehead.
Sasha and Connie lingered uncomfortably in the doorway, watching as Hange unbuttoned Levi’s shirt, which was plastered to his body with sweat.
“Is he going to be ok?” Asked Connie in a whisper.
No one answered him.
“Do you need anything else?” asked Sasha, breaking the tense silence except for Levi’s ragged breathing.
“No,” replied Hange, “just let the others know where I am, and keep that fire burning.”
They nodded and went back to the kitchen, leaving Hange alone sitting on the edge of the bed, looking more worried than the scouts had ever seen them.
They found Armin standing dazed before the pot on the stove, stirring mechanically, unfocused and clearly worried.
“This is my fault,” he whimpered. He looked up at Sasha and Connie, alarm in his eyes. “He gave me his cloak yesterday, and he must have gotten too cold, and now…” he looked like he might cry.
“No, Armin, it’s not your fault!” said Connie reassuringly. “He would have done the same for any of us, you had no idea that your cloak would burn off, or that the rain would be that cold!”
“But the experiment failed…. I failed! I’ll never live up to Erwin’s expectations.” Armin sank down in a chair at the table, utterly defeated.
“You need to stop blaming yourself Armin,” said Sasha, taking over at the stove-top, pouring a handful of herbs into the broth. “The decision was never yours, and you’re trying your best!”
“You just need to get used to it,” added Connie. “You’re only human so don’t beat yourself up!”
Armin sighed, looking toward the stairs with an expression of anguish. I really hope they’re right.
“I’ve had enough snow to last a lifetime,” complained Jean, entering the door, and hanging up his cloak, followed by Mikasa and Eren.
“At least we’ve cleared a path to the stable now,” said Mikasa.
“It only took us three hours,” grumbled Eren.
Jean sighed and sat down at the table. “What’s with you guys? You look like someone just died.”
Armin looked at the floor and Sasha stirred the pot on the stove awkwardly.
“Well…” said Connie, “It’s Captain Levi, he’s really unwell.”
Mikasa’s eyes widened in alarm. “Is he alright?”
“I thought he didn’t look too good this morning…” added Jean.
“What happened?” asked Eren.
“I guess…” said Armin, “the cold yesterday must have gotten to him, he just collapsed right in front of us!”
Seeing Armin’s worried expression, Mikasa said, “He’s humanity’s strongest. He just needs to rest for a few days, he’ll be fine.”
Her tone didn’t sound convincing enough though, and the room fell into a tense silence, the only sound Sasha’s wooden spoon scraping the bottom of the pot.
                                                  ***
A few minutes after Sasha and Connie left, Levi’s eyes fluttered open weakly and he stared up at Hange, looking very confused. He tried to sit up, but he was seized by another painful coughing fit and was forced to sink back down onto the pillows, shaking.
“Shhh,” said Hange, pushing him down and drawing the blanket up to cover him.
“Hange what happened?” he asked weakly, his voice hoarse and strained.
“You fainted,” they replied, readjusting the cloth on his forehead. “Connie helped me carry you in here.”
He coughed again.“Damn it, how did this happen, I can’t-” but he couldn’t finish, his chest shaking with echoing tremors. He moaned softly and closed his eyes.
“Just rest,” said Hange. “You don’t have to worry about anything.” His eyelids flickered and closed as he settled into an uneasy sleep, wheezing gently and still shaking.
They watched his chest rise and fall for a few minutes, then replaced the cloth on his forehead, already lukewarm with the heat from his fever. When they were sure he was really sleeping, they quietly closed the door and went back downstairs.
                                                 ***
Levi slept fitfully the rest of that day, and all the while, the snow still fell outside. Hange went back to check on him a few hours later, but he was still deep in a feverish dream, shivering beneath the blankets, chest rising raggedly and hair plastered to his head in lank strands.
Hange felt his forehead again. The fever was still high, possibly even higher than before. This worried them; they had never seen him this sick in all the years they had known him. They were trained as a field medic, first aid and emergency battle operations etc., but they were certainly no doctor. If this didn’t get any better soon….well, they just had to hope it would. Travelling would be impossible for at least the next few days.
For now, they kept the fever controlled by replacing the cloth on his forehead intermittently.
A soft knock on the door sounded and Mikasa entered the room, carrying a steaming cup of tea. “How is he?” she asked, setting it down on the table.
Hange’s brow furrowed. “Fever is still high and he’s struggling to breathe.” they watched the erratic rise and fall of his chest uneasily.
“Maybe steam will help,” said Mikasa, bringing the teacup close to Levi’s face.
“Good idea!” Hange observed, lifting his head slightly so he could inhale it.
He spluttered and coughed, then gasped weakly, but it did seem to give him some temporary relief.
“We need more steam,” said Hange.
“On it!” said Mikasa, turning to leave.
A few minutes later, she returned with the kettle and an empty washbasin.
They lifted Levi’s head again and held the steaming water up to his face. He gasped, then breathed in and out, coughing. He leaned back on the pillows, still shaking, but he breathed more easily, at least for a little while.
                                             ***
Levi dreamed of blue eyes following him. “Erwin, what do you still need from me?” But the blue receded into gray, drowning in snow.
“Wait!” cried Levi, “Where are you going?” but the blue eyes disappeared, and he heard nothing but his own voice, reverberating back at him.
He wandered in a directionless fog, steps heavy, his body aching with weariness as he trudged onward.
A roar resounded behind him and he flinched as something flew through the air. It landed at his feet in the mist and he almost screamed. Lifeless eyes underneath tousled red hair stared back at him. Isabel….
A familiar laugh echoed nearby. Farlan? He turned around, but the laugh faded and turned into a scream before disappearing into the fog completely.
He sank to his knees, utterly defeated. He could hear voices calling out his name, and they all flashed before his eyes.
He saw Gunther dangling from his mangled gear, half of Eld’s body strewn across the forest floor, Oluo’s head sawn off, and Petra... Oh Petra.
She called to him, but he couldn’t stand. His legs wouldn’t lift from the damp ground, and the mist suffocated him, drowning their voices until they disappeared. He was sinking into the ground, and then he fell, plummeting downward through tunnels of darkness until he landed with a thud in a dirty puddle, no stars here; it reeked of the underground.
A tall man with a face shielded by a black hat turned to look at Levi, lying in the muck, but he shook his head and walked away, until Levi could see him no more.
The puddle enveloped him like a blanket, and there was a woman in a white dress standing over him. Her black hair flowed down her back like rainfall on a window on a moonless night, and her cold gray eyes looked down on him lovingly. She brushed lank hair out of his face with pale fingers.
“Mother?” he croaked.
“Shhhh Levi, you’re safe now.” her voice was soothing, and he believed her, he let his eyes close, and darkness settled over him.
He wanted to stay there forever, but voices started to plague him again.
“Let me rest, please,” he begged.
“Levi. You must not regret your decision,” and there were blue eyes looking at him from the shadows again.
“Erwin…” he whispered.
“Do not regret. Fulfil your promise.”
“I’m so tired Erwin…” Levi protested. He wished that the blue eyes would close and leave him be. The woman in the white dress was still there, but she too, was fading, her hands translucent and eyes empty.
“No, don’t go!” he begged.
She grasped his hand one more time, and then disappeared into the shadows.
“Remember your promise,” said Erwin, but it wasn’t Erwin’s voice. Armin Arlert looked at him with sincerity in the mist, “Please stay with us Captain!”
“Please…” but he wasn’t sure whose voice it was pleading with him now.
“I promised…. I remember….” whispered Levi, and then he sank into shadows, many voices still echoing in their tendrils of mist around him, utterly incomprehensible.
                                      ***
The snow stopped falling after two days, but it showed no sign of melting. The scouts were trapped here until they could find a way to clear a path to the road, which was still several miles to the west of their isolated location.
Hange was getting increasingly more worried about Levi. He had been drifting in and out of consciousness, and the fever, like the snow, showed no signs of abating. Mikasa had been clever with the steam; when his breathing became too laboured, they brought a basin of boiling water to his face, and it seemed to instill a temporary respite to his pained struggle.
But he also wasn’t getting any better. Hange worried that he would need stronger medicine than whatever meager supplies they had here at the cabin; honey and hot water could only do so much. But in this snow, it would be impossible to go in search of anything.
Hange cooled Levi’s burning forehead with the wet cloth, listening to the erratic rise and fall of his chest with concern.
“You should get some rest,” said Armin, entering the room softly behind them. “I can stay with him for awhile.”
Hange nodded, knowing he was right. They didn’t like the thought of leaving him, but they felt their eyelids drooping heavily. They stood and stretched, then went to the bed they had set up down the hall. “Wake me if there’s any change.”
When Hange left, Armin sat down by the Captain’s side. His face was pale, his cheeks hollow and his dark hair dull and plastered to his face by sweat. A few incomprehensible words danced on his parched lips.
Armin felt an overwhelming sense of guilt as he looked at his sick captain. This is my fault. If only I had been able to transform properly, he wouldn’t have needed to give me his cloak. Better still, if I had died instead of Erwin. Erwin was a colossal human, even without the titan ability. I am nothing…
“No… don’t go…” whispered Levi feverishly in his sleep.
Armin inhaled sharply. “I’m right here Captain!”
“Erwin… no… let me rest, please…” his face twisted with grief and anguish, “can I go? The promise… I can’t…”
Armin’s eyes widened in alarm. He grasped Levi’s frail, sweaty hand in his own. “Please, stay with us captain, please!” begged Armin. He wrung out the cloth and dampened it again in the cold water, placing it on Levi’s burning forehead.
“I promised… I remember…” whispered Levi, coughing weakly in his sleep.
Armin heard the door open gently behind him as someone else walked into the room. He turned around, surprised to see that it was Eren.
“How is he?” he asked, still hovering in the doorway.
“Not good,” Armin shook his head.
Eren looked down at the ground and slowly walked over to lean on the edge of the table by the bed.
“Eren,” began Armin in a quiet voice. “Why couldn’t I transform?” A faint tremor of despair had crept up into his gentle tone.
Eren shook his head uneasily. He knew Armin would ask him this question. It was part of the reason why he had been avoiding the others this whole time. The strange sensation he had felt when he touched Queen Historia’s hand- well, he couldn’t shake the heavy weight of this immense secret he carried. He couldn’t shake the guilt, for being partially responsible for Commander Erwin’s death, and the legacy that Armin now had to fulfil. All he had wanted was to see the ocean, but this? I can see how tormented he is, the amount of anguish this is causing him, and it’s all my fault.
Eren hadn’t wanted to watch the experiment. He didn’t want to watch his friend suffer like that, a suffering that he knew all too well.
When Eren didn’t answer Armin’s feeble question, he sighed in resignation and looked away. It seemed even his best friend had lost faith in him.
The two boys were so wrapped up in their own thoughts that they nearly didn’t notice how quiet Levi had become
Eren noticed first. “Wait, Armin, something’s wrong.”
Armin shot up in alarm. Levi’s chest had stopped rising and falling, and the familiar pained breaths were silent.
“Captain Levi!” shouted Armin, shaking the captain’s frail body.
“I’ll get Hange!” said Eren, running out the door.
“Please hurry!” said Armin.
Armin lifted Levi, rubbing between his shoulder-blades vigorously. His skin was still emanating dangerous amounts of heat, which in this moment was actually a good thing, because it meant his body was still trying to fight, trying to live…
“Please Captain Levi,” begged Armin as he rubbed up and down, willing the breath to come back into his lungs.
The door banged open and Hange sprinted over to the bed. “Good Armin, keep rubbing. Levi!” they cried urgently, placing two fingers on Levi’s neck, where a very weak pulse was thankfully still fluttering. His lips were starting to turn blue.
Eren came into the room, carrying a steaming kettle. He poured it into the basin and handed it to Hange, who lifted it in front of Levi’s face.
Armin could feel the heartbeat weakening under his fingers, almost to nothing. A few tense moments followed, and then they all nearly jumped up in alarm as Levi gasped and coughed. He struggled for breath as his whole frame shook, but Armin lowered his shoulders with relief. That was close, too close.
Hange shook their head solemnly, reapplying the cold cloth to Levi’s forehead. “He’s not getting any better and there’s not much I can do for him without some stronger medicine.”
“But we’re trapped here…” said Eren.
Hange furrowed their brow quizzically. “Your father was a doctor wasn’t he Eren? Do you have any idea what he would have used to treat something like this?”
Eren thought for a moment and shook his head. “My father didn’t tell me much about what he did-he made all his medicines down in the cellar, where I wasn’t allowed. I think he planned to teach me one day, but he never got a chance…”
Think! Armin, Think, he begged himself. You can’t let the captain die. If he dies it's your fault. There has to be a way we can clear that snow and find him some medicine…?
He stood up suddenly, an idea forming in his mind.
“What is it?” Asked Eren.
“That’s the face of someone who’s just come up with a hypothesis,” remarked Hange observantly.
“We need a way to clear the snow so we can somehow get to a doctor or an apothecary…” began Armin, “and we know that titan steam can melt it, so what if I transform into a titan, clear the way enough for someone to make it to the main road, and from there ride to the nearest town where there’s bound to be someone that has what we need!”
“A brilliant idea Armin!” replied Hange excitedly, “But can you do it?”
“There’s also the risk that someone could see us, we don’t want to alarm civilians,” pointed out Eren,
Armin added, “that’s why it would be better to just get the medicine directly from them rather than bridging a doctor here- we don’t want too many people asking how on earth we cleared the snow away- you know what he needs right Hange?”
“More or less,” Hange agreed.
Armin continued, addressing Eren. “You and Mikasa will spot me as I transform, and cut me out and bring me back here while someone-probably Sasha because she knows the terrain around here the best- rides on.”
“But what if it’s too hot to get close?” wondered Eren.
“Then you can transform too, and take me down.”
Eren sighed, looking slightly uncomfortable, but then he nodded. “Okay.”
“Hmmm,” said Hange, “It’s risky, but…” they looked gravely at Levi’s shuddering form beside them, “I don’t think we have a choice.”
Eren stayed with Levi while Armin and Hange went downstairs to brief the others. The plan was this: Armin would transform and clear away the snow, and Mikasa and Eren would follow at a safe distance to retrieve Armin when he had finished.
Sasha and Connie would ride to the nearest village with a note carrying written instructions from Hange, to be shown to the closest doctor they could find. Trost would be ideal, but it was too far to ride quickly on the icy roads. Hange would have gone themself, but they didn’t dare leave Levi’s side now.
Jean sat with Levi while Hange went to the roof with Armin, Mikasa and Eren to execute the plan.
Armin didn’t feel nervous for once. He was ready to repay Captain Levi for saving his life back in Shiganshina. He would make them all proud. He would honor Erwin’s memory.
“Are you ready?” asked Hange.
Armin nodded.
“Remember to jump outwards so that the house doesn’t catch on fire,” they reminded him.
Right, don’t screw this up.
He took a deep breath, and leapt off the roof, slitting his palm with a knife. Electricity rippled through his body, and suddenly he was very tall. He looked down and could see snow down below, melting at his feet.
“Armin!” someone shouted. “Get away from the house!”
Dazed, he turned around, seeing Hange, Eren and Mikasa standing on top of the roof, edging away nervously.
What am I doing? Confusion clouded his mind. It's so hot in here…
“Armin! Go! You have to save Captain Levi!” shouted Connie from the stable. Armin looked down at Connie and Sasha, edging cautiously backwards, horses stamping impatiently. That’s right, I need to clear the way so they can go and find medicine for the Captain.
Armin shook away the fog and stepped forward, surprised at the heavy thud his feet made when they hit the ground, snow sizzling upon impact. I have to save Captain Levi. That thought propelled him forward as he plowed through the deep snow, the path clearing as he went.
“Good, it’s working!” Called Hange. “Sasha, Connie! Make sure you wait until we retrieve Armin before you ride!”
“Yes Commander!” shouted Sasha.
“Eren, Mikasa, now it’s your turn!” said Hange, turning to the two scouts beside them on the rooftop.
“On it!” Said Eren, breaking into a run and biting his hand as he jumped off the roof.
As he transformed down below, Mikasa leapt onto his shoulder with her ODM gear engaged.
Mikasa observed Armin’s colossal making its way through the trees. It was still much smaller than Berthold’s titan, smaller even than Eren as he pounded through the melted snow after him. Despite its size though, it was accomplishing what it meant to.
They followed at a safe distance for about ten minutes. Please let no one be on the road, thought Mikasa, anxiety thrumming in her chest. This was not a sight that she wanted just anyone to see.
“Eren, we’re getting close,” warned Mikasa.
Eren grunted in reply, and he sped up behind Armin.
Armin seemed to be aware of his surroundings, because Mikasa heard a loud crash up ahead as the colossal titan sank to its knees.
Mikasa sprinted off of Eren’s shoulder and zoomed ahead to scout out the road. Armin’s titan body had collapsed, steaming in the snow, and the road, still snowy but clear enough to ride stretched south toward Trost. No one else was in sight, so Mikasa breathed a sigh of relief as she assessed whether or not it was safe enough yet to retrieve Armin from the carcass.
The steam was too thick for her to see anything though. “Eren!” she shouted. “I need your help!”
Eren rumbled towards them and reached his hand into the steaming body, pulling Armin out, cradling his in the giant hand. The body immediately disintegrated, leaving more steam behind.
“Quick!” said Mikasa. “We need to get out of sight before anyone sees us!”
She leapt onto Eren’s shoulder and they sprinted back to the house, Armin lying unconscious in Eren’s arms.
When Hange saw them returning, they called down to Sasha and Connie. “Go! Hurry and come back as soon as you can!”
“Yes Commander!” They both shouted in unison, and galloped away down the path that Armin had cleared.
Mikasa leapt onto the ground, and Eren gently placed Armin down. Hange joined her and they carried him between them inside to give Eren enough space to transform back again. Mikasa was about to go back outside and help Eren in, but he stumbled in on his own, and immediately collapsed into a chair by the fire.
Armin’s eyes fluttered open where he sat in the other chair where Hange and Mikasa had set him down.
“Did I do it?” he asked feebly.
Hange knelt down in front of him. “Yes! You’re a hero Armin! Erwin would be proud.”
At this Armin could no longer control himself; he shuddered and tears fell from his eyes.
“Armin,” began Eren.
“No, I’m okay,” he stuttered. “I’m just so relieved!” He glanced at the staircase. “I just hope we’re not too late…”
Hange and Mikasa shooed Eren and Armin to bed to rest, and then Hange went to relieve Jean.
“You look like you could use some rest too,” said Mikasa, noticing the lines of exhaustion tracing Hange’s good eye.
Hange shook their head stubbornly. “No, I’ll stay with Levi until Sasha and Connie come back.”
Mikasa didn’t argue.
                                    ***
Jean and Mikasa tried to keep themselves busy, taking turns on lookout duty. Mikasa couldn't focus though, no matter what mindless task around the house she assigned herself. Levi would almost be proud at how tidy the place looked. Too restless to think anymore, she filled two teacups and went out to sit with Jean in the watchtower. She climbed up and sat beside him in the cold as they both stared out over the muddy, mangled path that Armin had plowed through what had been deep snow earlier that morning.
“Thanks,” muttered Jean, taking the cup gratefully from her in his shivering hands.
They sipped their tea, eyes fixed on the horizon for any sign of Sasha or Connie coming back, tension in the air as the time trickled by slowly.
“It’s weird seeing the captain this vulnerable,” said Jean absentmindedly. “He’s humanity’s strongest soldier you know? Something about seeing him like this just feels...wrong.”
Mikasa only nodded in reply. He spoke exactly what she felt.
“What will we do if he dies?” Continued Jean. “I mean, we need him. He can’t die!” she could hear the panic creeping into his voice.
Mikasa had no answer for that. She said instead. “I can take over lookout duty for now, you should go inside and get warm.”
He nodded grimly, “Maybe I can finally convince Hange to take a break.” He left, taking his empty teacup with him and leaving Mikasa alone in the tower. She stared into the gray abyss of broken trees, trying not to imagine the worst.
                                                    ***
Hange was exhausted, but they refused to give in to sleep. Levi needed them now more than ever. The fever refused to drop and his breathing became weaker and weaker as the minutes ticked by.
“You can’t leave me Levi,” they whispered, grabbing his pale hand. “These kids need you, the world needs you, I need you. ”
They bent their head down and didn’t try to stop the subtle tears that fell from their eyes. Levi shivered weakly in his sleep. Hange moved their hand up to his chest, so they could feel the fluttering of his heartbeat under their touch. It was so weak, like a baby bird, so they cradled it there, willing it to stay and learn to fly.
                                                ***
There was a small bird chirping in the mist. Levi followed the sound of its voice and saw it on the damp ground, wings too small and weak to fly, crying out in a terrified high-pitched chirp.
He sank to his knees beside it. Isabel would have tried to save you… but it seems all I can do is die with you...
He lay down on the cold ground, letting the mist cover him.
He heard someone calling his name.
No...be quiet. I’m tired, just let me sleep please…
He closed his eyes and saw many faces beckoning to him. They were speaking but he couldn’t hear them. Isabel and Farlan waved to him. “Come with us!” they seemed to say. Oluo, El and Gunther called to him, but they were too far away for him to hear, and then there was Petra, smiling reassuringly.
“I can’t hear you!” he protested. The woman in the white dress from before, Kuchel Ackerman, reached out her hand, and he tried to grasp it, but there were Erwin’s hard, blue eyes, shaking his head.
“I need you,” said someone’s voice.
Levi tried to ignore it. He blinked and shook his head. Petra and the others were walking further away from him now.
“No! Take me with you!” he begged, but the mist stifled his voice, and no noise reached them.
The woman in white still beckoned to him, but her shape was blurry; he couldn’t see her face anymore.
“Remember your promise,” echoed Erwin’s voice.
“But Erwin, I can’t…. I’m too tired… Please! Take me with you!” He begged his mother, protesting Erwin’s last orders that rang in his ears even through the sifling mist. But Kuchel drifted back, out of sight, and the mist thickened, leaving him in shadows, the bird still chirping weakly beside him.
                                               ***
Mikasa shivered in the watchtower, her eyelids drooping. Please hurry, she silently willed, eyes fixed on the horizon. It was almost nightfall now, and the dusk glare cast a dusty glow on the path of mud, snow and broken trees. She considered going inside to wake up Eren or Armin to relieve her, or Jean. No, I have to stay, I have to keep watching. She knew despite her exhaustion she wouldn’t be able to sleep, so she stiffened her jaw and looked forward, eyes peeled for any movement on the darkening horizon.
Jean opened the door to Levi’s room gently, careful not to make too much noise. Hange had fallen asleep next to him, one hand lying on his chest. Jean could see it gently rising and falling, which brought momentary relief. He thought about waking Hange, but they looked so peaceful there, he figured it was better to leave them be.
Levi’s face was gray like shadows in the snow, and he coughed weakly in his sleep. Jean quietly tiptoed over to the bed and replaced the cloth on his forehead, careful not to wake the sleeping commander. He exited the room and peeked in at Eren and Armin who were both still fast asleep, before going downstairs to start another kettle. As he was filling it with snow from outside, he heard Mikasa shout.
“I can see them! They’re coming down the road!” The shaky desperation in her voice was apparent as she looked at Jean by the door. He almost dropped the kettle in relief. Finally.
Hange woke upon hearing Mikasa’s shout from outside. They sat up, surprised that they had fallen asleep, hand still across Levi’s chest that shuddered under their touch. Are they back? They stood up frantically and peeked out the door.
Jean was standing at the bottom of the stairs, halfway in the door, and Armin and Eren must have woken with the noise, because they both blinked drowsily into the hallway, observing intently.
“Mikasa spotted them!” said Jean. “They’re almost here!”
Hange breathed a sigh of relief and glanced back into the room at Levi’s sleeping form. “Just hold on a little longer,” they whispered.
Sasha and Connie leaped off their horses with urgency, not even bothering to take them to the stable before going inside. Sasha reached protectively into the satchel on her back, its precious contents bundled in her scarf. She and Connie had ridden without stopping until they came across a village. They knocked urgently at every door until someone could direct them to a doctor.
A grey-eyed man with foggy glasses opened the door, looking at the two of them with confusion. “Dr. Friedman?” asked Connie politely.
“Yes?” he said, raising an eyebrow.
“We are here on urgent military business, here is a notice from our commander,” said Sasha quickly. She thrust Hange’s note into the doctor’s hands.
“I suppose you’d better come in,” he said, ushering them inside.
They lingered just beyond the doorway while the doctor’s watery eyes scanned Hange’s instructions.
“I see,” he said, looking up at them gravely when he had finished.
Sasha and Connie both returned his glance, desperate and unblinking.
“So, it sounds like it is a quite serious chest infection, high fever, difficulty breathing, yes?” mused the doctor, walking over to a cupboard and taking out some bottles and a scale.
“Yes sir,” said Connie, shuffling his feet on the floor.
Sasha fidgeted with her hands behind her back. Please hurry.
After what felt like an eternity later, the doctor pressed a bottle of something into her trembling hands, along with a written note for Hange.
Connie hastily paid him and muttered his thanks.
Sasha nodded clumsily in gratitude, and they rode off quickly, Dr. Friedman watching them go with his brow furrowed. He was silently wondering why on earth the instructions in the Commander’s notice had said no doctor was to come to their location, only to send medicine. No matter, he thought, going back inside.
Now Sasha and Connie blundered into the house, not even stopping to remove their cloaks as they trundled up the stairs, meeting Hange in the entrance to Levi’s room.
“Good work you two,” said Hange, taking the bottle gingerly from Sasha. They lingered anxiously in the doorway as the one-eyed commander scanned the instructions scrawled on the note. They nodded and went over to Levi’s side.
“Can one of you get me some water?” asked Hange, opening the bottle and looking inside.
Sasha muttered a hurried, “yes sir,” before sprinting downstairs and returning speedily with a cup of cold water. Jean entered the room behind her, with the kettle that had just boiled. Mikasa, having abandoned her post in the watchtower, hovered outside in the hallway, joined by Eren and Armin, still in their nightclothes.
Hange gently lifted Levi from the pillows so he was sitting semi-upright. “Jean, can you hold his nostrils shut?”
Jean pinched Levi’s nose while Hange cautiously measured some of the tonic into the lid of the bottle and poured it into Levi’s mouth. They gave him some water to ensure that it went down. His chest shook slightly, but he was too weak to cough, of which Hange was glad for once, because it meant that the medicine had a chance to enter his body.
“Hopefully this will bring the fever down, and clear the infection,” said Hange after they had laid his head back on the pillows, keeping him upright so that he could breathe more easily.
“Now what?” asked Connie, still standing in the doorway.
“Now we wait to see if it takes effect,” Hange replied in a whisper, brushing some of Levi’s damp hair back from his forehead.
Hange was so exhausted that they almost didn’t notice Jean’s steady hand on their shoulder. “Commander Hange, you should really get some rest, we can look after him.”
Hange glanced backwards to see all of the scouts standing in the doorway, worry etched deep on all of their faces. They smiled slightly. If Levi ever finds out that this many people were in his room at once, watching him sleep…. Well who says I ever have to tell him?
“Okay,” they said, standing and walking towards the door. Jean had already replaced them at the bedside, cooling Levi’s forehead again.
“Thank you, all of you for your help. I know the Captain will be deeply grateful when he wakes up. He likes to pretend like he doesn’t need anyone, but I know him better than that. He needs all of us, just as much as we need him…” Hange trailed off and sighed, looking once more at Levi’s sleeping form. They weren’t sure if they imagined it, but he already looked more at ease. Too tired to hear the scouts bashfully respond to them, Commander Hange walked to their bed, with limbs heavy, and was asleep within minutes.
By the next morning, Levi’s fever had dropped a considerable amount, and his breathing seemed to become less labored. The medicine thankfully seemed to be taking effect.
The scouts worked diligently to clean up the house the next day, ensuring that every corner, every surface, and anything beyond was tidy and spotless. They kept the kettle boiling, fire roaring and lookout manned. They would be fine.
The snow outside also started to melt on its own, signalling that Hange would have no choice but to return to HQ soon. They had already been away for far too long, and they had accomplished what they had come here to do, though not necessarily in the way that they expected. Knowing this, they decided to depart the next morning, after they were sure that Levi was really on the road to recovery. It made them uneasy, leaving Levi before he had regained consciousness, but they also felt reassured that he was in good hands.
Levi’s eyes fluttered open slowly. He felt warm, a heavy blanket on top of him. He stared upwards into shocked blue eyes. Erwin…? But then he blinked. No, it was Armin, who looked at him wide-eyed with an expression of pure relief.
“Captain! You’re awake!” he exclaimed, and placed a cold hand on Levi’s forehead.
“What are you doing?” he coughed, trying to sit up.
Armin pulled his hand away, breathing with a sigh of relief. “Fever is gone. You really scared us Captain!”
Levi groaned, sinking back down into the pillows. “What happened?”
“You had a fever sir,” stuttered Armin, “you were unconscious for about four days, we were really worried!”
Unconscious for four days? He thought in alarm.
He was aware of the door creaking open softly, and Hange entered the room, beaming. “I thought I heard right!” They exclaimed, rushing towards the bed and ensnaring Levi in a crippling hug. They broke away, muttering apologies when he started coughing again, his chest still echoing with the hollow sound, but no longer gasping for breath like he had been.
Hange felt his forehead just as Armin had done and smiled to feel that it had indeed cooled to a normal temperature.
“How are you feeling?” asked Armin gently.
Levi closed his eyes tightly for a second, opening them slowly. “Better now that you’re not crushing me anymore.” His voice was still hoarse. The fever had broken, but he was far from well. His face was pale and drawn, and his eyes were glassy and distant, carrying more shadows than they had before.
“You have Armin to thank for saving your life!” said Hange.
Armin shifted his eyes to the floor, looking embarrassed. “Well I…”
“Come on, give yourself some credit!” said Hange, slapping him on the shoulder with a little too much force.
“Oh…?” replied Levi, raising an eyebrow weakly.
“He transformed and melted all the snow so we were able to find you some medicine,” said Hange.
Levi widened his eyes as much as the strain in his head would allow, impressed. “Thank you Armin, it seems I owe you a great deal.”
“It wasn’t just me,” protested Armin. “Commander Hange rarely left your side, Sasha and Connie were the ones who ran to get the medicine, Eren and Mikasa retrieved me, and Jean made sure you stayed alive while we were gone: we all helped each other. You don’t owe me anything Captain. We’re a squad and that’s what we do. We need each other; at least, I couldn’t have done it alone.” Armin averted his eyes after his outburst of sincerity.
Levi nodded in cool agreement. “It seems I chose my squad well. Erwin would be proud.”
“I’m heading back to HQ in the morning,” said Hange, “but I feel better leaving, knowing you’re in very good hands.” They smiled at Armin.
Armin looked down at the floor again, not sure if he should believe the captain’s, or the commander’s words.
Levi shuddered and coughed again, wondering why he was still so tired if he had really been asleep for four days as Armin had said.
“We should let you rest,” said Hange softly, noticing his eyelids begin to droop with heaviness.
Too exhausted and weak to reply, Levi allowed himself to sink down onto the pillows, and within seconds, he was asleep. Hange adjusted the blankets once more before they quietly left the room with Armin.
Levi slept most of the next day, consistently and without strange dreams this time. Hange peeked in briefly before they left, careful not to wake him. They hadn’t ever seen Levi sleep this soundly before. However quiet they tried to be though, he still blinked awake and said hoarsely, “where are you going?”
Even when he’s sick he’s still the world’s lightest sleeper…
“I have to go back to HQ now,” Hange said. “I’ve already been away too long, and the snow is clearing, so I don’t really have an excuse anymore.”
“Good,” grunted Levi, “I’m starting to feel like one of your experiments.”
Hange laughed. “You’ll be in good hands here, try not to miss me too much.”
He nodded and then coughed. “Seriously though, Thank you Hange. I really do appreciate it.”
Their good eye widened. “What’s that? Captain Levi expressing his appreciation for me ? Do you have a fever again?” They felt his forehead just to be sure, grinning sideways when it was revealed to be cool and dry.
He shrugged weakly. “Armin was right, maybe we do all need each other.”
Hange smiled at that and said, “No cleaning when I’m gone, no training, no unnecessary exertion- you’re still very weak so I’m ordering you to stay in bed and let the squad take care of you.”
He rolled his eyes slightly, but muttered a quiet, “yes commander,” so Hange was able to leave satisfied.
The medicine and instructions were left on the bedside table for the scouts to administer. They all waved to Hange as they rode away down the muddy path through the broken trees.
Sometime in the evening the day Hange left, there was a soft knock on Levi’s door. He grunted, waking up slowly and sitting up, still a little shaky.
Mikasa came in with a steaming bowl that she set down on the table. “I brought you some food,” she said. “I mean- I don’t know if you’re hungry but you should probably eat something.”
“Thank you,” he said hoarsely, starting to try to get out of bed, but his muscles wouldn’t obey, and he laid back down, feeling drained as if he had just faced a titan headlong. Where is all my energy? I’m supposed to be humanity’s strongest soldier, but I can barely even lift my head.
“It’s ok,” reassured Mikasa, “Don’t try to get up. You’ve been very sick sir, so it’ll be awhile before you can get your strength back.”
Levi avoided her eyes as she brought the bowl closer to him. He tried to take it from her, but she withdrew when she noticed his hands trembling. “I’d better do it,” she said in a soothing voice.
Utterly defeated by the humiliation that he was too weak to even lift his hand to eat, he allowed Mikasa to feed him the warm broth. He wasn’t aware of it tasting like anything, but he could feel it warming his body and soothing the tremors in his chest.
He wanted to stop halfway through the bowl, but Mikasa looked at him sternly and made him finish the rest, “The only way you’ll get stronger is if you eat.”
The soup made him feel warm and sleepy. Mikasa’s face was blurring before his eyes. “Rest now sir,” she said, drawing the blanket up to cover him, but he didn’t hear her; he had already closed his eyes and sunk into sleep.
Levi woke the next day to dim light coming through his icy window panes. The soft glow came from the west, signalling that it was sunset. Did I really sleep all day?
He gingerly climbed out of bed. His muscles screamed in protest, and he still coughed roughly as he stood. Hange had ordered him to stay in bed, yes, but his body was stiff and achy, not from the feverish chill in his body anymore, but from lying in bed for 5 days straight.
Shakily, he put a clean shirt on and wrapped a thin blanket around his shoulders. He didn’t know where his jacket was and he didn’t have the energy to look for it. The house was still cold, but he was certain now that this was from the frost on the windows, and not from fever.
He stumbled out of the room, holding on to the wall for support.
“Captain, what are you doing!” Exclaimed Sasha from behind him.
He turned his face to see her eyes, wide-eyed with concern.
He coughed, “I need to get out of that room, I need some air.”
She was next to him in an instant, offering her arm for support, which he reluctantly took. “Commander Hange said-”
“Don’t worry, I won’t try to clean or do anything strenuous, I just want to go downstairs,” he croaked.
Sasha looked uneasy, “but Captain Levi…”
He narrowed his eyes at her and she nodded, allowing her to take hold of his shoulders and help him downstairs.
Levi almost gasped out loud when he saw the downstairs. His eyes widened in surprise. “What...it’s completely spotless!” Every surface had been dusted, cleaned and polished.
Sashsa blushed… “Er, we cleaned a bit while you were asleep.”
Levi allowed her to guide him into the kitchen, which was immaculately clean, not a smudge nor crumb in sight. A pot of soup boiled invitingly on the stove. He actually admitted that he found himself hungry, unlike yesterday when he had forced himself to eat to appease Mikasa.
The others were milling around the kitchen, setting the table and getting ready to eat together.
“Captain Levi!” They all shouted in unison.
“Enough already,” he grumbled, as Sasha helped him into a chair. “You can’t be that happy to see me.”
“Sir, shouldn’t you still be in bed?” asked Armin nervously.
“You still look a bit pale…” remarked Mikasa. She also noticed that he had visibly lost weight. His clothes hung loosely around his shoulders and his cheeks were hollow on his face, dark circles etched deeply below his eyes.
Levi glared at them both, “So? What is it to you?”
Well at least he has his attitude back, that’s a good sign, thought Eren.
Sasha poured him a bowl of soup and set it down in front of him. He nodded to her gratefully, trying to stifle the slight shaking in his hands as he lifted the spoon. Damn it, I can do this myself... His efforts weren’t enough to completely hide his struggle though, based on the expression of concern that they were all shooting in his direction. He ignored them and instead took another look around the room intently. “I have to say, I am impressed, I’ve never seen it this clean in here; I couldn’t have done a better job myself.”
They all widened their eyes and ate their soup, too shocked that Captain Levi was complimenting them to actually say anything. “Th-thank you Captain?” said Jean hesitantly.
They all stared nervously around the table, and it was Sasha who finally broke the silence. “We were just so worried about you sir!”
“We thought you were going to die!” added Armin.
“Uh yeah… it was really unsettling having you out of commission,” said Jean.
“Please never scare us like that again Sir!” cried Mikasa.
Eren didn’t say anything but nodded vigorously in agreement, his green eyes directed across the table with determined intensity.
“Relax, it’ll take more than a stupid cough to kill me,” said Levi, ending his sentence in annoyance as he actually started coughing.
He ignored their looks of concern and said, “So, did anything interesting happen while I was asleep? I mean, besides Armin turning into a titan and Eren not being a sulky teen anymore and ignoring the rest of us.”
Eren scowled. Sasha giggled softly and Armin and Mikasa both averted their eyes.
“Pretty much sums it up sir…” said Jean, clearly trying not to laugh.
Just at that moment, the door opened with a gust of chilly air and Connie trundled in from the watchtower. He hung his cloak and said, without turning around, “Eren it’s your turn on lookout!”
He walked into the kitchen and broke into a huge smile when he saw Levi. “Captain!” He exclaimed, “Welcome back!”
“Thank you Connie,” he replied, his voice husky.
Eren stood up, eyes downcast and went to take up his post outside. Okay nevermind, he’s as moody as always.
Levi tried to help them clear away the dishes after they were all done eating, but Mikasa firmly stopped him. “Sorry sir, but Hange strictly ordered us not to let you clean.”
“Did they now…?” he sighed. There was no point fighting back over a few dishes, besides, he didn’t have the energy anyway.
Instead, he succumbed to sitting in front of the fire, subtly watching them clean up. He could hear Sasha and Connie splashing dishwater at each other, Jean complaining when it accidentally struck him, and Armin’s light footfalls as he swept the floor, Mikasa’s hands wiping down the table in smooth, polished motions…
The noises were comforting; the sound of their laughter and rhythmic working brought a warm feeling into his chest.
Someone brought him a cup of tea, but his eyes were already starting to become heavy. “Thank you,” he murmured, smiling slightly, and then feeling warm and content, he allowed himself to rest.
“I’ve never seen him look this relaxed!” whispered Mikasa, who had put down the teacup.
“Shhhh,” said Armin, covering him gently with a blanket.
They diminished into the kitchen, leaving him there with a peaceful expression on his face.
Levi slept soundly and dreamed of snow, but this time no blue-eyed shadows followed him, and he was able to watch glittering white flakes dance, laughing peacefully as they fell.
I had an idea for a KiriBaku angst, hurt/comfort fic and I finally finished it! You can also read this fic on my AO3 @DemiSweetChocolate. Summary is Bakugo is a self sacrificing idiot and Kirishima has fallen hard for him. I’m not great at summaries so here’s the fic LOL. (Also edited for clarification, finally got around to it lmao😅).
Young Heroes and Young Love
The building trembled around them, the sounds of crumbling concrete filling Kirishima’s ears. His eyes darted around the room as he tugged on Bakugo’s arm.
“Bakugo, we have to go.The building’s going to collapse!”
In his typical blind rage, Bakugo didn’t seem to hear him.
“Where the fuck did he go?! That bastard!” Bakugo cursed, sparks erupting in his hands.
Multiple heroes streaked by and Iida was yelling to all who could hear to retreat. The villains had escaped, but left the quickly crumbling building in their wake. Kirishima gripped Bakugo’s arm and began dragging him out.
“Dammit, Shitty Hair! Let me go, I was gonna get those villains!” Bakugo struggled fruitlessly, Kirishima’s grip was far too strong. As Bakugo gave up his struggle, he realized that Kirishima wasn’t totally paying attention to their surroundings and was instead just barreling through. He didn’t see the failing beam ahead of them.
“Kirishima, Stop!”
He spun around, looking at Bakugo. He let go for just a moment and that’s all Bakugo needed. With a large blast, Kirishima found himself rocketed all the way across the room.
“Go get those bastards for me!” Bakugo yelled. The sound of a snapping beam drowned out his words as Kirishima struggled to his feet and activated his quirk. Where Bakugo was, there was a growing mountain of rubble. Kirishima’s mind was blank with how hardened he was and didn’t let him process what just happened. He was overcome with lethargy and recognized the sweet smell of Miss Midnight’s quirk as he was passing out.
~~~~
Moments later, Kirishima awoke in Recovery Girl’s office.
“Ah, you’re awake, Miss Midnight and Thirteen rescued you,” Recovery Girl smiled.
His brain was foggy still from Miss Midnight’s quirk. He blinked and the memory of Bakugo disappearing under falling concrete flashed behind his eyelids.
‘Bakugo. Wait…’ He bolted up, “Where’s Bakugo? Is he okay?!”
“He’s in the hospital… I don’t know his condition though,” Recovery Girl said with concern edging her voice. Kirishima slid off the bed and nodded, a mix of gratitude and distress swirling in his head.
“Could I visit him?”
She shook her head, “It’s far too late for visiting times.”
“Do you have someone who can take you home?”
He shrugged, “I’ll have to call someone, is it ok if I use the phone?”
Recovery Girl nodded, gesturing towards the phone on the wall, going back to some light paperwork. He nodded in thanks and ambled over to the phone. He wrapped his arm around himself in an effort to comfort himself while he called his mom. Once he hung up, he slumped against the wall. How badly was Bakugo hurt? Was it irreparable? Would he live? He felt his heart wrench at that last thought. In what seemed to be hours, the phone on the wall rang and Recovery Girl pushed her chair over to the phone. She picked it up and nodded.
“Your mom is here.”
He nodded, “Thank you. I hope you have a good night.”
She smiled as she hung up, “You too, Eijirou. Rest well.”
As he sat in the car, he could feel the realization hit him harder.
“Hey, Eijiro,” His mother said softly, “I saw the news…do you want to talk about it?”
“Bakugo’s in the hospital…”
Tears spilled from his eyes as he said it, his jaw tight yet trembling. His mom took his hand, squeezing it as she drove home. Once they got home, they both sat on the couch, hugging each other and Kirishima crying.
“I could’ve saved him, Mom. I could’ve stopped it!” He choked out, “The dumbass blasted me, why the hell would he do that? He knew I could protect us both!”
His mom just quietly listened, pressing a kiss to his head. He slowly pulled away, looking his mom in the eyes, cheeks tear stained, “He doesn’t know I love him, Mom. I can’t lose him!”
“Tell me, what is it about this boy that makes you love him so much?” She asked, holding his hand and gently wiping his tears away. God, where could he start? The dedication he had to things he was passionate about, he always put his all into his training. Some of the times he saw Bakugo happiest was when he was playing the drums for the small band that Jiro, Bakugo, and Kirishima had made together. It was rare when Katsuki genuinely smiled, but when he did it radiated throughout the room. And his cooking, god damn it was good. Granted, it could be a bit spicy at times, but he always had a good balance of ingredients. Whenever he talked to him he knew Katsuki genuinely listened. Even with his smart ass comments, he knew he was being heard.
“That’s why I love him…”
~~~~
His brain refused to relax as he gathered his clothes for his shower. How badly was Bakugo injured? He couldn’t help but imagine a hero gingerly lifting a broken and bleeding Bakugo from the building's wreckage. As he got in the shower, he prayed that Bakugo wouldn't end up as broken as Izuku usually did when he over-used his quirk. He leaned against the cold shower wall in an attempt to ground himself, his mind swirling like water into the shower drain. Taking deep breaths, he remembered a time when Bakugo first genuinely laughed. Sero and Denki had been tussling around, arguing over something completely pointless. Sero, having enough of Denki’s shit, taped him up and hung him from the ceiling.
“I swear to fuck, if you don’t let me down-“
A piece of tape quickly covered Denki’s mouth before he could finish his sentence. As he struggled, the rest of the Baku Squad laughed at the comical sight.
“Hey, Sero, can you give me a small piece of tape?” Mina asked. He obliged, handing her a piece and looked at Mina quizzically. She attached one end of the tape to the tip of Denki’s nose and then pressed the other end to his forehead, giving him a piggy nosed look. Bakugo stifled a snort and desperately tried to hold back his laughter. His raucous laughter joined the rest of the groups’.
“Fucking idiots.” Bakugo had muttered to himself as he recovered from the stomach aching laughter.
He stepped into the stream of the shower, his heart aching. He finished up his shower, dressing in his favorite comfy Crimson Riot pj’s. He didn’t want to sleep. He wanted to know that Bakugo was okay. Tossing and turning all night, his stomach churned with anxiety. Nevertheless, he eventually passed out against his own will and was dead to the world till almost noon the next day. When he came into the kitchen he found his mom making lunch.
“Good morning, sweetie,” His mother greeted softly.
He tried to smile, but the exhaustion and anxiety shone through instead. She kissed his head and served him a lunch of hearty ramen.
“Eat up, okay?” She patted his cheek and ruffled his hair. He nodded and began eating, even though his stomach detested his efforts. While he ate, his mother cleaned up and talked to him.
“I called the hospital this morning and they told me Bakugo is accepting visitors. I assumed you’d want to see him today, so we can go once you’ve finished up eating.”
“Thanks, Mom.” He gave a small grateful smile.
~~~~~~~
A nurse led him to Bakugo’s room. As he stepped inside, he felt his throat grow tight at the sight of his battered friend. His left arm and right leg were both in casts, bandages wrapped his ribs and right forearm.
“Kirishima? ‘S that you?” A gravelly voice asked.
He rushed to the bedside and gripped the bed’s sidebar, “Yes, it’s me!”
“Thank god, you’re alive…” Bakugo mumbled, barely audible.
Kirishima cupped his cheek, gently rubbing it with his thumb, “I could say the same for you.”
“What were you thinking? Blasting me away like that?” Kirishima said, taking his hand away and folding his arms, a slight bite in his voice. “You could’ve been killed.”
Bakugo grit his teeth, “I was saving your dumbass, you didn’t see that we could’ve both been crushed.”
“I could’ve protected us! Did you forget that?!” Kirishima snapped, angry tears prickling the back of his eyes.
“Of course not!” Bakugo growled, “There was no fucking time! You weren’t paying attention to your fucking surroundings! We could’ve both died, dumbass!”
Both stewed in silence until Bakugo coughed hard, clearing his throat to speak up, “I’d rather it be me than you. Okay, shitty hair? I can’t lose you.”
Tears began trickling down Kirishima’s face, his voice wet. “I can’t lose you either, you’re my best friend. You’re more than a best friend, I’m in love with you!”
He refused to swipe away his tears, bracing himself for Bakugo’s reaction. All of a sudden Bakugo’s hand shot out and he found his lips being smashed against his best friends’. It only lasted for a second, Bakugo quickly releasing his grip on Kiri’s shirt so he could upright himself. Kiri blinked, did he just…? Bakugo’s cheeks were flushed as he gathered his words.
“I…I don’t know what it is that I’m feeling, but I know you mean a hell of a lot to me.” He said, crimson eyes now holding a strong gaze.
A smile crept across Kirishima’s mouth, taking Bakugo’s uninjured hand in his own. “I care a hell of a lot about you, too, Bakugo Katsuki.”
He became flustered and just grumbled, “Shut the fuck up and kiss me already.”
Kirishima laughed and gently pressed his lips to Bakugo’s chapped ones. Kirishima took his time, soft and slow, savoring every moment. When he finally pulled away, he could feel himself glowing in delight. God, he loved that boy.
