Did the drama have lense flare to proof they were expensive? Sure. Did they drag it to the last episode to reveal everything? Yeah. Could the execution have been better? Absolutely. Did I love the drama in spite it's shortcomings? Oh yeah.

soooo…. the whole curse started bc 1/2 of the og bulgasals (human blood drinking monsters btw) fell in love w two kids and decided to leave the other 1/2 to live as a human without any discussion. then when the humans turn on the human loving 1/2 of bulgasal and try to kill her … she calls the other 1/2 to come and save her .. which he does … by killing the people who tried to kill her …. while leaving the humans she left him for alive (except gma but that was an accident fr) and she decides to kill both of them because of it? as if she was not also 1/2 bulgasal who DRINKS HUMAN BLOOD BTW! like what

OK EULTAE??) and was soooo desperately pathetically holding on to him saying shit like 'pick me over her' while he was half dead and is now the evil because he's jealous and coming in between this frankly nonexistent hetero chemistry....... call it what it is. homophobic.

Disclaimer: I tried to find explanation for the details I noticed in the painting, including monsters' stories and colour scheme. Those are found on internet. While I tried to keep my researches resourceful, please bear in mind that there can be misinformation.

Color Scheme:

Since ancient times, Koreans have applied colors to the pursuit of the harmony between Yin and Yang, the successful coexistence with the incompatible, and unity with nature in their lives.

According to the Ohaeng(Five Elements of the Universe), it it possible to cure a disease and to repel a demon through the use of the colors red and blue which correspond to Yang, the energy of life, that can neutralize the negative energy, Yin.

Especially, the use of blue and red together on a sajudanja(the letter from the family of a groom to his bride-to-be) and a bojagi(traditional wedding ceremony wrapping cloth) have been used to signify the Yin Yang respectively in the harmonious union of man and a woman marriage.

While yang and yin are not exclusively defined as “male” and “female,” and either sex can be considered yin or yang within a given context, in terms of their most general relation to one another, yin references the female and yang the male.

In painting, we can predict that not only genders but also the colours blue and red might symbolise positive and negative, good or bad.

The colours of their attire also supports the idea of Five Direction Colors or Obangsaek <오방색: 五方色 > which refers to the five colors derived from Yin-Yang Five Elements theory that describes the relationship between the five basic elements that make up all of nature.

While those two figures are supposed to keep balance between humans and monsters, when we look at the whole painting, we notice the incompatibility.

I think the painting does not only show monsters but also humans. In front of Gapsangoe, as she burns people, we can see other humans keeping their own kin in the fire. Which reminds me of Eultae and Hwal's conversation about how both monsters and humans kill their own kind.

I also think the people above might represent two different nation or government. In front of them are Dokkaebi kind of monsters (or Bibi, monster's head on top of a human body) and beside one of them is tiger (or Haechi), which are often related to palace.

The haechi originally was an animal, sort of a hybrid between a lion and a watchdog, with a horn in the center of its head. Often symbolising justice and said to eat fire. They protect against not only fire natural disasters but also all disruption or disruptive change, with their large mouths said to latch onto the past, refusing to let go.

In the water, they might either be human victims of Teorokseon, Sea Dragons or Jangjamari, the water spirits that play instruments, and have seaweed all over their bodies. They may also be associated with fertility.

The monster beside the water might be Bulgae or Ungnyeo.

Cave:

It might be the cave Hwal sees in his dreams and once lived in. But there is also a myth about a cave. Legends about Tangun differ in detail. According to one account, Hwanung left heaven to rule Earth from atop Mt. T’aebaek (Daebaik). When a bear and a tiger expressed a wish to become human beings, he ordered the beasts into a cave for 100 days.

So maybe, cave is actually the place monsters or Bulgasal hid in order to complete a step to become a human?
