What do you usually eat for breakfast? Scrambled eggs with spinach and cheese. And coffee, duh. When was the last time you seen your best friend? I see my mom everyday, all the time since we live together. What was the last good movie you watched? I recently rewatched Endgame and Aladdin (the new live action one), both of which are really good. Especially Endgame. Still gets me in the feels. Do you rent movies at a store or on your tv? We sometimes rent from Redbox (the red box thingies with DVDs at grocery stores. I think there’s also Bluebox, too, in some places), but usually we watch on Netflix or rent from Amazon Prime. Have you ever thought about getting Netflix? We’ve had it for years. What do you order on your sundae? I haven’t had a sundae in years, but I liked to just get vanilla ice cream with strawberry syrup. I don’t care for sprinkles. Do you like whipped cream and nuts on it? I like whipped cream and some nuts in general, but I didn’t put either one on my sundaes. *shrug* I’m a simple gal.

How often does your family have cookouts? We did them a lot when I was a kid. My dad used to BBQ quite a bit during the summer and my extended family all got together for BBQs quite often as well. We haven’t done that in years, though. Does anybody in your family have cancer? My papa and one of my cousins both had skin cancer, but they’re fortunately both in remission. What is one genre of music you refuse to listen too? I don’t outright refuse any, but I don’t like techno/EDM/Clubhouse music type stuff. Who is your favorite singer? I don’t have one particular favorite. There are many artists and bands that I enjoy. What is the title of the last book you read? It’s still Burying the Honeysuckle Girls by Emily Carpenter, which has been my answer for months now. I keep meaning to start reading again, but it hasn’t happened, yet. I go through phases where I read a lot and knockout several books and then go awhile without reading at all. I love to read, so I don’t know what my issue is. Do you even read? I do, I just haven’t the last few months. Is your Bzoink account profile decorated? I don’t have one. If so, what’s the backround of? Do you drink Mcdonalds sweet tea? I used to. I haven’t had it in probably almost 10 years, though. Do you like melted cheese on your eggs? Yessss. What do you eat on your popcorn? Butter and salt are absolute musts. Also, this one theater I go to has garlic parm seasoning stuff that is SO good. What do you do on a sunny day? I don’t do anything different, I just do them while complaining about being hot and feeling miserable from the heat. I’m not a summer or outdoorsy person. Do you moisturize everyday? No, but I really should. How long does it take you to get ready for your day? If I’m going somewhere then I just fix my hair (or throw on a hat), brush my teeth, change my clothes, put on deodorant, and put on my shoes. Bam. Done. I very, very rarely bother with makeup anymore or doing anything with my hair other than braid it, put it in a pony tail, throw a hat/beanie on. Do you ever have lazy days? Everyday? But honestly, it’s more that I don’t have energy or motivation to do much of anything. I own up to the fact that I can be lazy, but that’s not the main reason. It seems like laziness on the surface, but it’s deeper than that. Is your bedroom clean right now? It’s a little cluttery right now and it’s driving me nuts. I need to find the energy and motivation to clean up a bit and get rid of some stuff. That’s my main issue with my room I just have too much stuff and not enough space for it. Somedays; though, even those things just don’t cut it and the days seem to drag extra slow and I’m not in the mood to do anything at all. Which friend is most like you? I don’t have any friends. Banana (without the nut), blueberry, and lemon poppyseed.

Do you ever drink kool-aid? I did when I was a kid. Do you consider yourself healthy? No. Do you take all your vitamins daily? No. I’m supposed to... Why Padalecki marriage annoys me - non Tinhat perspective

I can safely say that never before has a marriage annoyed me as much as the Padalecki marriage. Even the Ackles’ behavior is reasonable. They don’t kiss and make out public because Jensen is not an exhibitionist sort. I have never respect PDAs. In my opinion, it is inappropriate. But remember, I am not a tinhat so you can draw your own conclusions about why the Ackles don’t “display” their love in public. There is nothing wrong with theorizing.

Genevieve, and Jared [when he is in husband mode] just irritate me. They oversell it. In the beginning, I thought she was so lucky to have a husband like him. He is so beautiful. He’s so sensitive. He earns well. He is respected in his field. Plus he cried on their wedding day. How beautiful is that? For years afterwards, he would gush over her during his panels. At first, I smirked, then I became poker faced, then I became mildly annoyed and then one day [I even remember the panel] it just got too noticeably exhibitionist. It was the last question. Timothy Omundson was called on stage, pretending to be the last question. And he comically fangirled uncontrollably before perching himself on the designated chair. His question was “who is your favourite guest star, and why is it Timothy Omundsom?’‘ It was a funny question, and Jensen went with it, saying that he was a fan of Omundson’s beard, which caused Robbie to throw a faux hissy fit because he had a beard too, darn it. But Jensen pointed out that his beard was pathetic because it was short and he couldn’t braid it. After the laugh fest, Jared gave his answer: ’'My favorite guest star is Gen, because she’s my wife and the mother of my children”.

For some reason, that is pissed me right off. It was a funny question. It didn’t warrant a serious, gushy husband reply. Some witless creature made a mistake of pointing this out, in the comment section. The entire page converged on her. Even people who had initially agreed with her, backtracked. I felt angry at this fandom's self-censoring. I realized she was over loved, not because of any personal merit, but because she married Jared. They were calling her a queen. Seriously? A queen. For what? So I went on the internet to see if I was the only weird person who couldn’t detect her monarchical merits.

That was last year-ish. How do you think I stumbled onto tinhats. I like most hats because it seems they don't conform to the politically correct norm of ’'treat the wives like gold’’. And they don’t ask tinhat questions during panels. Unlike the leeches who love destiel and Misha Collins. Jared was becoming too extra when it came to Genevieve. And I noticed he inserted an obligatory Gen mention at least once, in every single panel. Even after seven years, he was far too “in love”. And eventually, instead of being happy for their happiness, I started feel like they were rubbing their domestic bliss in everyone’s face. “look at what we’ve got, nyah nyah nyah.’' My polite and genuine [but not over the top] respect for their marriage dissipated.

You know who he reminded me off. He reminded me of Tom Cruise when he was a guest on Oprah and was over pushing the epic love he had for Katie Holmes, jumping on the couch and fist pumping the air. That incident, I found humorous and embarrassing. This was plain irritating. I noticed he’s slowed down now. The unnecessary wife mentions sometimes don’t even make an appearance, for which I am thankful. I wonder why though. Unless he is telling a story that she is a part of, like the Highway story, he doesn’t mention her anymore. My non tinhat guess is that he was aware that fans were getting pissed off, especially since, he had mentioned something about her in a panel recently [I don’t remember which one], and someone in the front row said: We know!

Another thing I don’t like about this relationship is Genevieve intruding on fan space. If people are paying bucket loads to see their favorite actor, unless they specifically ask for a guest appearance by the actor’s wife, don’t intrude. Once, Genevieve appeared on stage, during a J2 panel, to contribute something unnecessary to the story they were recounting. I think it was the highway story. Then she made sure she kissed him before leaving, while the crowd watched. Why? She added nothing fresh to the story, and couldn’t she wait to leave the stage, to kiss her husband. She isn’t paying to see her husband. The fans are. Don’t take that precious time away from them.

And I noticed, she usually sits at the side of the stage, overseeing the whole exchange. As far as I know, Danneel hasn’t done that yet. Why the need to loom over the proceedings? Does she love to hear him talk? That reminds me of the livestream they did, where he was talking and she mouthed ’'blah blah blah’' while making a mocking hand gesture, because apparently he was talking too much. So obviously Jared’s yammering doesn’t entertain her.

Then at Jib, she got to join the panel. I didn’t fault her for attending because apparently the previous year, he had gotten sick and didn’t make the con. I assumed she was there for moral support. I am a non hatter so that is my analysis. You cant of course, explain your perspective. But that doesn’t mean she needs to be on stage. For what? Its not like she did something spectacular whilst there. Rob, Rich and Jared had to take over the discussion because she was so dull. Eventually even Jensen joined in, revved the crowd up even further, and left. One of her fan girls complained that the boys ’'didn’t even let her speak”. Thank goodness they didn’t.

She is inserting herself between Jared and the fan, and now people are forced to be enthusiastic about her. Its so unfair. It almost seems like Genevieve wants shared custody of the fans. That is not how fame works. You earn it. You don’t inherit it. I started to get more and more annoyed with being forced, [by all of fandom, I thought] to go crazy over some woman, I could care less for. She wasn’t impressive as fake Ruby. And I was not the only one who thought so. Cassidy was a bland actor, in my humble opinion. Genevieve was worse.

The only reason she didn’t fade into oblivion, like all the other female actors, is because she married Jared. There was a blog called anti-Genevieve on Tumblr, that received a lawyers letter to cease and desist, because of defamation of character. Its her right to safeguard her reputation, so no problem there, especially if the blog is over malicious without proof or facts. I did visit the site. But I don’t remember seeing anything horrible other than her being called a beard. But it has been a while so maybe I just forgot.

However, there is another blog called Supernatural Snark. Almost the entire blog bashes Jared for everything that comes out of his mouth. One day, an ask about Jensen’s weird behavior at Jibcon, illicited an odd response from the blogger. The asker said that Jensen’s breakdown was Misha, Jared and the destiheller’s fault because Misha queerbaits his fans, Jared teases destiel and the fans abused Jensen on Twitter after Jaxcon. She said Jensen was trying to pacify the fans. The blogger said that it didn’t make sense for Jensen to wait six months to pacify the fans. Then she disabled the comment so the asker couldn’t respond. Of course, even I know he waited six months, because he shares no other panel with Misha. That’s when I realized that Supernatural Snark is a heller blog.

How come Genevieve doesn’t send a cease and desist lawyer’s letter to this witch. I think I know why. She only looked for anti stuff about herself on the net and that’s how she found this page. If she was looking for anti Jared blogs, she would have found Supernatural Snark. The Minute Maid commercial and her words in it were a little incentive. She said she was making so many sacrifices. Well missy, bundle up your babies and buzz off to Vancouver. You husband is not gone off to war. You are sacrificing nothing.

She doesn’t seem to care for him. She doesn’t care about his campaign. She never tags AFK for anything. She tags Random Acts, though. The thing that makes my blood boil, on a personal level, is that she claims that she also suffers from depression. As a bipolar sufferer myself, the one trend I noticed is that when people are impatient with me, and I point out that I have bipolar disorder, they quickly say that they also suffer from depression, so they don’t look bad. Since when does she have depression. Because if she did, she wouldn’t ignore her husband’s campaign that is supposed to help people like her. Is she sharing in her husband’s sympathy the same way she is sharing his fame?

She has diehard fans on Instagram. One of them is Ivana. Ivana gushily asked Genevieve to sign her name so that Ivana could have it tattooed. I was surprised. When did Gen become a rockstar? Then I realized that Ivana has her own SM page where she says she is ITK and best buds with Genevieve. So she knows that Jared abuses his wife and neglects his children. Ivana is a heller. Her best friend Lua James [@Poptivist on Twitter], led a smear campaign against J2 for the Nolacon joke. Her followers are the ones that made this problem reach MSM. And J2 had to apologize, publicly, for nothing. That is ok, because what Lua and gang were initially hoping for was for separates for the boys' panels, so that Jared wouldn’t be near Jensen. Genevieve is making herself the whip with which hellers can beat Jared.

And both Ivana and Lua cornered Danneel at one con to tell her how everyone hated her, except them. That was their snide contribution to tinhat hate. Danneel signed Poptivist’s SPN magazine, with the caption: “He is mine, bitches”… something inappropriate like that. Danneel was wrong for writing that. I noticed she fights with Jensen’s fans a lot. Ungracious. Lua is so toxic that she needs a guard at the cons, supplied by Creation to keep an eye on her. WTF!!! I always wondered why she wasn’t just excluded, but I think it’s because she is friends with a Creation staff member who also happens to be Misha’s relative. And because she is a Misha fan girl, she gets to stay.

That’s why Misha’s face appears on the main posters with J2, despite him not being a lead. Because he is related to staff. The wives have no fans, but I think Genevieve’s ego is in denial. Her intellect isn’t, which is why Jared’s appears in her vlogs. He is the deal sealer for her. One day this pompousness is going to backfire on Gen. I hope she figures that out one day.

ok, I need to get this post written and get to sleep because I’m way tired. Today of course was another awesome day, to finish off three awesome days of the weekend. My alarm went off at 7:30, 15 minutes to get out the door since I was gonna do my make up in the car, then 15 minutes to walk to Jess’ place at 8 (it doesn’t usually take that long, but I try to budget in extra time incase I run into some complications). Got there, got in the car and headed off to HVFF. This convention center is off by O’Hare, which is pretty much in the northwest corner of Chicago, so a bit of a drive even for those of us who live on the north side as we do. But we got there in pretty good time then tried to figure out will call to get our tickets. I had a VIP badge because I bought it on sale for super cheap sometime last summer, even though it was a two day badge and I only ended up using one day because I wanted to be at C2E2 with Caity yesterday, lol. So I got whisked off to a special VIP line because we got into the show floor a full hour and a half before the general admission people. So I got in and looked around, there were a few celebrities out but not all that many, and not many of the vendors were open yet, so I decided to venture over to the “Walker Stalker” side of the con, which is a whole Walking Dead con basically, Chicago is apparently the only city that does HVFF and walker stalker together, but it was basically an entirely different space with its own vendors and celebrities. I was going over there because one of the celebrities they had who’s apparently on the walking dead is Sarah Wayne Callies, also known as Sara from Prison Break. She was the only celebrity on my list that Jess didn’t want to also meet, so I figured I’d get her done while I was alone. We had to wait a little bit, I struck up a pleasant conversation with the woman in line behind me who had also not watched any of the walking dead and was getting this autograph for a family member, so it was nice to know I wasn’t the only person who felt soooooo out of place there, lol. literally have not ever watched an episode and I’m not terribly interested in doing so, but Prison Break, so here I was. Once she came out the line started moving pretty quickly, so I got up there pretty soon. She was super lovely, I told her I had mixed feelings about a possible season 6 because I just wanted the writers to let them have their happy ending they got at the end of season 5 and not make their lives more miserable, which she thought was very valid lol. She said it wasn’t confirmed yet (apparently “Dom talks like it’s alright a done deal when it’s not even written”) but they should know soon. So that was a nice pleasant interaction. After that Jess had gotten in with the general admission people, so we went to hit up Emma Dumont from the gifted. I’m not going to share too many details of the interaction because part of it involves a surprise for a friend, and even though I don’t think she’s on tumblr I don’t want to risk her somehow finding out and ruining the surprise. But basically Emma Dumont is the COOLEST. Like, I obviously adore Caity and think she's awesome, but like, for someone who’s not my favorite I think she had the best fan interactions of any celebrities I’ve meet so far. She was so chill, she spent so much time talking to every person on line, and at one point wanted to edit the sign stating her autograph schedule because it said she was supposed to take a break and she didn’t want to, so she crossed it out and just wrote “NO BREAKS” across it and it was so so funny. She was such a delight, and the surprise portion of the interaction went over SO well, I had no idea how she was gonna react, but it was legit the best case possible, so I was very thrilled with that. After that we decided to go to Franz table and chat with him, he didn’t have much of a line so we got up there pretty quickly. I had him sign my legends poster, which now has his, Brandon’s, Caity’s and Dom’s autographs on it. When I was talking to him I was saying how sad I was when they wrote Jax off and that I really didn’t like how they did it, with all the press surrounding Victor Garber leaving and then he was written off without so much as a warning, and he was like “yeah, you’re not alone in thinking that” haha but I told him I was very much looking forward to seeing him return in the finale tomorrow. After him we went over to Katrina’s table, she hadn’t come out yet so we waited for a little bit until she came out. We decided to split a selfie, and then each get polaroids with her because they’re doing the adorable little polaroid pictures for $10. We also wanted to talk to her about our idea for the photo op later in the day, because the actual photo op is so rushed there’s really not much time to explain something like that. So we brought up the appropriate meme and showed it to her, and she was totally in for it and thought it was great, so I was happy about that. After that we took a break for lunch for a bit, then wandered around the vendors and artists until about 1:30, then got in line for Emily Bett Rickards, since she was coming back at 2 to start signing, her general admission line was crazy long, but luckily there were only two people in front of us in the VIP line. Jess wanted to meet her because she wanted to get her Felicity funko pop signed for her brother. She took until like, 2:15 to come out, but we got to see her pretty quickly. She was very sweet, and I’m not at all insulting anything about how she acted, but you could kind of tell she had had some bad experiences with fans doing really awful things and just how that can make someone have a lot of hesitance about this stuff. Her board of prices for stuff also stated *no hugs please* at the bottom, which just tells me how bad previous interactions had gone that she would now need to post that. Apparently this was one of the first times she was even doing selfies. So I felt bad for her over all of that, but she was lovely and sweet and I have no complains about her behavior. After that we went to the bathroom so Jess could change back into her Ava cosplay for the photo op. We stopped at one of the booths and I got a green shirt that says “star city archery club” because why not. We then went to the booth that had some wigs on display and asked about a blonde one, because we wanted the photo op to be easily identifiable to people. I did manage to find a blonde wig that I was actually alright with how it looked, so that was a win. It doesn’t really look like Sara’s current white canary hair, but it actually looks a lot like her season 2 of Arrow Canary wig, so that works. Then we went over to the photo op area and ran into some bitch Jess hates which we had to act civil towards and make awkward small talk, but I mostly just stared her down the whole time, lol. Once we made it into the photo op area we got called in pretty quickly, we showed Katrina the meme again so she would know exactly what to do (it’s the distracted boyfriend other girl meme if you didn’t see me reblog it earlier) so we got into those poses and oh man, it came out so awesome, I loved it. Jess snapped a photo of the print out, not even the digital copy, and posted it on twitter and it now has like, 700 likes lol so my mentions have been blowing up all day about that, which is cool. After that we ran back to Katrina’s booth just because we wanted to show her how it turned out, and she loved it and hugged both of us and was just generally very sweet. We were more or less ready to go at that point, but Elodie Yung’s table was pretty much empty, so we kinda worked our way in there and were just like “I don’t have any money left but I wanted to say I love you and you’re awesome as Elektra” and she was very sweet. After that we headed out, walked over to the parking garage and then through that to where there are some attached restaurants, because apparently if you eat at one of the restaurants they’ll validate your parking. So we went to a cute little place where we had a nice meal, Jess had the biggest plate of nachos I’ve ever seen, so she wasn’t quite able to finish all of it, lol. After that we headed home, she dropped me off and I just took the costume off, got into comfy clothes, and sat down to binge some tv. I watched the episode of Riverdale that was first on the list of episodes I’d missed, and I was really like.....I don’t find this very interesting, which is kind of a shame because Madelaine Petsch was at the con today and I did get to see her from a small distance. Oh well. At 7:30 I turned on Brooklyn 99, which was excellent of course, then started to finally start Rise, which I watched the first 3 episodes of, and I have to say I really like it so far. I know it’s supposed to be based on true events, but the Glee parallels are like, REALLY obvious, the teacher is completely Schuester 2.0, they recruit the football player, the threatening football coach, and just stuff like that. but it was definitely excellently cast, Auli’i is incredible of course, and the girl they cast as Gwen, when she did the “soft” version of purple summer, I was seriously getting chills- like the depths they went to to cast that character is nuts, and they did it very, very well. So I’m looking forward to watching more of that. And yeah, then I got in the shower and got ready for bed and here I am, did I mention I’m TIRED?? So I’m going to sleep now. Goodnight dolls. Recent Reads

So, it’s been a while since I’ve made a post talking about what I’ve been reading. That’s largely due to my summer in the USA, which was one of the most amazing experiences, and I had the best time. It’s actually more than 2 months now since I left camp, which is crazy to think about. Maybe I’ll get to go back some time! I also got to go to NYC, which has been on my bucket list for a long time. I got to see some Broadway shows too, which was incredible. I saw Waitress, Bandstand and Hello Dolly, and was actually lucky enough to get to go backstage at Waitress, which basically made my whole life! It was an incredible, but incredibly busy summer, so I didn’t get to read quite as much as I usually do in my summer holidays, but at the same time, I got through more books than I expected, and some of them were pretty long.

When I got back I literally had like 3 days before I had to head back to uni, and now we’re over half way through the semester, which is again crazy! Reading week has been and gone, but it was lovely to go home for a couple of days, especially since I wasn’t there all summer. That said, I’m loving being back at uni for my 2nd year. I’m just generally having a much better time living in a house with friends than I did in halls, even if the workload’s increased a bit.

So yeah. I haven’t stopped for months, and I’m not sure when I’ll get a proper break where I don’t have to do anything - I’ve got work to do this week, then the Christmas and Easter holidays will be spent revising for exams... Never mind! I can sleep later. I’ve also just got a new laptop! My old one broke - I’d had it 5 or 6 years, so it was just done. The screen was a bit wobbly and the display went all weird, so I got an early Christmas present! It’s not red like my old one, but I got some stickers from RedBubble to jazz it up a bit.

Anyway, that’s enough rambling about what I’ve been up to lately. I’m not going to talk about every single book I’ve read in the past few months because that would be a stupidly long post, and I either don’t really remember or just don’t have much to say about certain titles. But there are books that I do want to talk about, and I enjoy making these posts, so this is like a highlights list. If anyone can tell me how to format the post so all the embedded pictures are the same size, I’d really appreciate it, because it annoys me a little bit, but I don’t know how to fix it! As always, spoiler warnings apply for all titles in case I decide to talk about specific plot points in detail. Enjoy!

1) Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This has been sitting on my kindle for a while. I heard about it and thought it sounded good, it was just never top of my list. I was also told it was a dystopian book, which I have to be in a particular mood to want to read. I really enjoyed it though, and I’m glad I finally decided to read it!

At first I was a little bit like, “Oh, here we go again” with the whole oppressed people, everything they know is a lie, sparking a rebellion, teenagers trying to kill each other parts, but it became different enough that I was really interested. I think the world that this is set in is a really cool, interesting one. In some respects its very sci-fi and futuristic - it’s set on Mars, and talks about the empire stretching to other planets, as well as the whole ‘making Darrow Gold’ bit. However, at the same time, this society is heavily based on the Roman Empire, and there’s all these not-at-all-subtle nods to that ancient mythology, as well as the training at the Institute essentially being siege warfare and capturing castles, with swords and horses. It’s a bit of a weird mix, but it works well.

Bits of this were brutal and gory and violent and plain nasty, but it was a good read, and I need to get a hold of the other 2 books, so I can find out what happens. Now that Darrow’s made it through the Institute, I’m really intrigued to see how he’ll actually try to take down the society. I also want to see more of the world, and more of the different coloured classes within it.

2) A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab

This is another book that has been sitting on my kindle for a long time, and I don’t know why. I’ve heard so many good things about it, and it sounded like exactly the kind of thing I’d love - unsurprisingly, once I picked it up I did Iove it! This was just so much fun to read!

I love the whole concept of the 4 parallel versions of London, but only a select few can travel between them. It’s interesting how different all the worlds are, and I can understand Kell’s love of collecting and smuggling things from one to another. I thought Kell was a great character, and I really loved Lila. She just wants to be a pirate! I hope we get to find out more about their origins in later books. Also, calling it now, Lila’s an Antari too - she has a glass eye that I reckon used to be completely black.

The plot is pretty simple - in the words of Mike Wazowski, “Put that thing back where it came from or so help me-” But that doesn’t matter, because its so effective, and the numerous factions chasing them, as well as jumping between realities keep things plenty exciting. Although everything sort of wraps up at the end, and I actually think this works pretty well as a standalone, I really need to get a hold of the rest of the trilogy. I’m excited to see see where it goes.

3) Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas

I searched Terminal 5 of Heathrow airport for a copy of this thing. I’ve been excited to read it for a whole year. I’ve been looking forward to Chaol and Nesryn’s excellent adventure since I finished Queen of Shadows 2 years ago, and then they weren’t in Empire of Storms, so I started looking forward to this little novella which wound up as a 600+ page brick. Not that I’m complaining, I just wonder how the hell everything that happened in here was supposed to fit into a novella?! Because there were some serious reveals in here, as well as all the world building and new characters.

I think we can now safely say that every single character from The Assassin’s Blade has been accounted for. Most of them joined Aelin’s army at the end of the last book, and the return of Yrene was a huge part of this one. I love that she kept the note from Celaena/Aelin after all these years, even though she still doesn’t know who the stranger was. I would love to see her reaction when Chaol tells her, although I have a sad feeling it will be left to our imaginations (much like all these bloody secret weddings!). Another returning character, I’m pretty sure at least, was Falkan who, if I’m not mistaken was the merchant who sold Celaena the spidersilk in Assassin and the Desert. Also, he’s a shifter and Lysandra’s uncle, which is a really nice little link.

I thought that in some ways, this book called back to some of the simpler storylines of the earlier books. Most of Chaol’s storyline was set in either the palace or the Torre, instead of all over the continent, and the whole mystery of Tumelun’s death, and working out what was killing the healers and trying to attack them in the palace was quite reminiscent of Book 1, before everything got so much bigger and crazier. My love of Chaol as a character was confirmed in this book. I’ve always been a fan, and never really understood a lot of the hate he seems to get on tumblr - the poor guy’s had his entire worldview turned on its head in the space of a few months and been forced to accept a lot of stuff, so I understand sort of where he was coming from. But it was nice to get inside his head a lot and see what he really thought about everything that had happened. Also, I love how much he loves Dorian and I am so excited for their reunion in the next book!

At the end of Queen of Shadows I was ready to accept Chaol and Nesryn as romantic endgame, but I am so glad that isn’t what happened. There wasn’t anything wrong with them as a couple (although some of the way she was treated in here wasn’t great), but I love Chaol and Yrene, and Nesryn and Sartaq so much better! Speaking of Nesryn, I loved her storyline in the second half of Tower of Dawn. I loved the way she went, “I was promised an adventure, so I’m going to go and have one!” And that’s exactly what she did. I really enjoyed the scenes in the Ruk Riders aerie, Bort was a great character, and fighting the giant spiders was pretty cool. I also loved the scenes with Nesryn’s family, because that’s a side to her that we haven’t seen much of.

I loved the whole world of the Southern Continent, and all the new characters that were introduced. Hasar definitely grew on me more than I was expecting, and Sartaq is just so great. I actually think I preferred Tower of Dawn to Empire of Storms, although I think Queen of Shadows is still my favourite in the series. I actually quite enjoyed taking a little break from Aelin and Rowan and all the drama (and sometimes a little bit of frustration), that comes with reading about them. Don’t get me wrong, I love Aelin, I’m incredibly worried about what’s going to happen to her, and that final chapter was not ok, but it was refreshing to have such a big book in the series that she wasn’t such a big part of, even though she was present in lots of little ways.

And now we wait. For the final book in this series that I love. I have no idea where its going to end, especially with all the new characters and revelations introduced in here, but I am excited to find out! Also, to find out how long it’s going to be in order to wrap everything up - its got to be 700+ pages, its just got to be! Also, I’m going to see Sarah J Maas next week - she’s doing an event in my city, and I’m so excited!!! Hopefully I’ll pick up some good spoilers and bits of information!

4) A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers

This is another book that I’ve been excited to read for a while, but I was waiting for it to come out in paperback, then I was away. But, I finally picked it up, and I absolutely loved it. I was expecting to of course, because I absolutely adore The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, which is the first book in this series. I described that book as fluffy sci-fi, with a super diverse world and wonderful characters, and all of that was just as present in this book.

I wasn’t sure if I’d love it quite as much as the first book, as it’s not a direct sequel. The crew of the Wayfarer are not present in this one, except for Lovelace (after what happened at the end of Book 1) and Pepper, who was a minor character. The bit where Sidra (Lovey) tried to write a letter to Jenks was so sad! I would have loved a proper cameo from the Wayfarer, and I live in hope that they will appear in later books. So, Closed and Common Orbit has much less of an ensemble cast than Small Angry Planet, and has a much less episodic feel to the story. It’s more like one continuous story, or rather two parallel stories, although it’s still a very character driven book. Nevertheless, I still absolutely loved it.

I really enjoyed Sidra getting to experience so much of humanity for the first time, and I thought she offered quite an interesting perspective. I loved how she tried to find her own place in the world, and I love the solution that they found to her struggles. Pepper’s backstory was a really interesting one too. Again I loved seeing her learn about the world, and I was so impressed by her determination to survive and fix her ship and get out of the scrapyard. It was nice to see how she met Blue, and I thought that Owl was such a wonderful character. What I wasn’t expecting was that after she escaped the factory, she would be stuck for another 10 years before she truly escaped her old life.

I’m not going to lie, tears were shed towards the end of this book, and I read the last 100 or so pages in one sitting. It was mostly happy tears though, as Pepper and Blue finally escaped the scrapyard, and they lost then found Owl after all those years, and Sidra found where she belonged, and it was just lovely and emotional. I absolutely love this world, and I’m excited for the next book, which is apparently another sort of companion novel about the Exodus Fleet, something I look forward to learning more about!

5) Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

This book was completely insane, but I did enjoy it. The premise, a bunch of Beauty Pageant contestants stranded on a desert island sounds pretty fun, if a little ridiculous, but throw in a vaguely dystopian corporation controlling everything, a Bond-style secret lair and reality tv pirates, and you have something truly nuts, but a lot of fun. It also read pretty quickly, which is a good thing for someone with a busy life!

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect going into this, but I thought that some of the satirical elements worked really well. There were some interesting comments made about sexism, racism, LGBT issues, beauty standards, consumerism etc. Some of it may have been a little heavy handed, but there were still some good points made. There were places where I just turned the page and went “WTF?!?!” but the best thing to do is just go with it.

Part of me was expecting a lot more bitchiness between the girls, so that was quite nice to see, and I enjoyed seeing a lot of the characters find themselves, find their real passions and work out what they really wanted. It was also nice to see where all of the girls ended up in the future at the end.

6) Inferno by Dan Brown

This is the 4th Dan Brown book I’ve read, and its pretty close to Da Vinchi Code in terms of which one’s my favourite. Plagues and pandemics and stuff like that really freak me out, but I didn’t find this too bad. It had more of what I’ve loved about all his books, which is the fast pace combined with all the information about art, history and science mixed in. You learn a lot from reading these, and I loved the setting of this, which is Florence, Venice and Istanbul. I’ve been to Istanbul, but Italy is somewhere that I really really want to go!

I actually saw the movie of this one when it came out last year, so this became less of a priority book, because I know most of what happened. But this has a different ending to the movie, something that really pissed off the friend who I saw the movie with. My thoughts on said big change - I think the movie ending works better for a big Hollywood movie and wide audiences, but the book ending is much more interesting and thought-provoking and possibly wouldn’t have translated quite as well to film. Without giving too much away, I think the book gives a really interesting solution to the population problem, which wasn’t quite what anyone was expecting, and I really liked. I also liked that Sienna got a chance at redemption.

Like I’ve said, I really enjoy these books, and the new one is in my house, so I’ll get to that at some point. But, there’s something else that I would really like to read. I want to read a book that’s just as popular, has the same writing style with all the intellectual detail, but the main character is a woman. Still in her mid-forties, still single, still a highly respected academic in her field, and in every book she teams up with a different younger sexy guy who falls slightly in love with her. Not to go on about double standards or anything, but female characters like that just don’t really exist, while there’s a fair few Robert Langdon’s wandering about the place. This isn’t a massive criticism at all, I just think it’s an interesting point to note.

7) La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman

I’ve been excited to read this since it was announced. The His Dark Materials trilogy is one of my favourite series of all time, so to get a whole new trilogy in that universe is just brilliant. My only hope is that it doesn’t mess with the ending of The Amber Spyglass, because I know that this series is going to end 10 years after that one. It is a heart-breaking bittersweet ending, but it works so well, and I love it, and I don’t want it to be magically fixed because the author changed his mind. We’re a hell of a long way away from that point though, as this is only the first book in the new trilogy, and it essentially serves as a prequel to Northern Lights.

I loved returning to Lyra’s world, as it is home to Daemons, aka one of my favourite ideas in the whole of fiction. It was also nice to see more from some minor characters from the original trilogy like Farder Coram and Hannah Relf before they were who they are 10 years later. Baby Lyra and Pan are also adorable, and it was cool to see how they ended up at Jordan College. I really liked Malcolm as a protagonist, he’s just such a good kid and wants to learn more and explore, but do the right thing and yeah. I hope we get to see more of him in the rest of the trilogy, but I have no idea if the books are going to stick with him, or explore other things or what. Also Alice - how is she related to Roger? They have the same last name, so is she his sister, cousin, surprisingly young mother? I hope we find out - the unexplained connection will drive me nuts otherwise.

Much like the original trilogy, this was a really fun adventure which works as a children’s book, but at the same time goes a lot deeper and has some themes that are a bit more adult, but you probably won’t pick up on if you’re too young. That was something I definitely remember from the 2 readings of His Dark Materials, one at 10 and one at 16. You can see all the sinister Magisterium stuff from the other series starting to build in this book, and start to interrupt Malcolm’s perfect world. The adventure came much more in the second half, when they were paddling to London on the flood, although I didn’t like it quite so much when it got a little bit trippy and weird, with the fairy woman and the house where nobody could see them and stuff. I liked the witch though - I’ve always loved Philip Pullman’s take on the witches.

I did think the ending was a little bit abrupt though. They make it to Jordan College, Lord Asriel buggers off and it ends. Did Malcolm and Alice make it home safely? Who knows... I’m excited to read the rest of this trilogy, although I have absolutely no idea when the next book is due to be released - I suspect its not going to be one a year. I also have no idea where the story is going, when it’s going to be set, who it concerns, and that excites me. It’s more from one of my favourite worlds, and if its as good as this was, I’ll love it. My final point in this post - this is a ridiculously pretty book. I took the dust jacket off, and I squealed a little bit because its covered in gold sparkles like Dust, and it has a quote on the spine, and I love it so much!

Ok, so the last 24 hours on my blog have been discourse heavy re: salify.

Before I go any further I am going to say - do not send him anon hate. If you take legitimate issue with him don’t send it via anon. Especially because I discovered he’s accused me for sending people after him. I did not, because he was the one who hurt and crossed a bunch of people who did not deserve what he has done during this period of time. But even if you don’t believe me about that, that’s fine. My concern is people staying safe, and if that means staying uninvolved - on both sides of the issue - that’s more important.

Furthermore, anyone involved, besides Sam and myself, are going unnamed for their sake and protection. They can choose to reveal themselves if they wish but that is their judgment to make and not ours.

Salify, aka Sam, is a 22 year old adult who runs a server that is going unnamed for the sake of protecting others still there. Said server was mostly comprised of minors under 18 who were brought in with the promise that the server was an inclusive safe space where people would be positive and uplifting and encouraging. We had many extensive rules dedicated to this aspect encouraging basic respect and decency, and discouraging topics or actions that would make people feel unsafe or upset them.

Sam himself, believing as owner he could do what he liked, broke his own rules and when people spoke up is when things got worse.

It all started off with the server’s tendency to tell jokes about cishets. Obviously, not a crime. sometimes many would get carried away and tell the jokes in every channel and the jokes could last for a good half hour in a conversation. Maybe a little obnoxious if you get tired of the same topic quickly, but not a crime or an issue.

Here’s where it started to become an issue. Fairly recently, a few of the members on the server, who will remain unnamed for safety, have mentioned and complained that the jokes made them feel uncomfortable when in excess. Very uncomfortable, and I imagine for some of them, unsafe. As there were no requirements of being not cishet in the server, surprise!! there were some who identified as cishet and others who just wanted to escape the type of discussion already abound on tumblr. I cannot and will not say where people fell but it is something to keep in mind - regarding a server mostly full of minors.

complaints were made, and the acting moderators at the time announced a new rule saying to ease up on the cishet jokes, people regardless of orientation and identity were feeling uncomfortable with them.

Things quiet down and go back to normal. Then, last night, the jokes started up in full force again. And they went on a long time. In all fairness, they were in the channel dedicated to discourse. That said, given the server’s habits there was a high likelihood this meant the jokes were coming back and would be scattered throughout all the channels once more. Not to mention people who had become used to those jokes being moderated probably received an unwelcome shock if they wandered into the chat at that time.

One of the members, after the jokes wore out most everyone’s humor, spoke up. They requested that all the people involved drop the jokes, members have complained about this before and felt unsafe when it was done in excess like this. Most of the group backed off, but Sam, and others who were taking great joy in these jokes, refused. Their argument was that as people who were oppressed by cishets they could make jokes about their oppressors as much as they want.

On its own, that’s not a terrible argument. That is valid and understandable.

The problem is that when people say they feel unsafe or uncomfortable, and they are people who did no wrong to deserve this from the person, and the person telling the jokes refuses, that’s crossing a limit.

Bashing hypothetical others who are not present does NOT take priority over those who ARE present, do not deserve the bashing and are stressed, not comfortable, hurt or terrified by this bashing.

So at this point, I intervened and asked they just ease up. They don’t have to stop telling the jokes forever, but even the funniest joke in the world gets unfunny when drawn out too long, it becomes obnoxious, and if people felt definitively unhappy then it was time to drop it. Rather than agreeing to back off even than just the night, Sam became more obstinate, and continued to push his argument, not changing anything but continuing to parrot that as someone oppressed he could do what he liked. Others who took his side gleefully joined in and jeered and mocked as the argument continued.

Initially, some of the people present attempted to drop the argument and change the subject. But they became quiet and stepped to the side as things got worse. While I am not going to rehash the argument step by step, Sam along with his support continued to screech about how oppressed they were and could therefore make all the jokes they wanted, while I and others tried to argue it was making people uncomfortable and that’s not worth it.

During this, Sam and his entourage

accused us of claiming heterophobia (not a thing) and being cishet allies

tried to pass it off as acceptable by likening the situation to other oppressed minorities being allowed to make jokes about their oppressors, bringing race and neurodivergence and disabled people into it in doing so.

used the name of the Pulse Shooting as a get out of jail free card for his jokes (which is in bad taste and absolutely disrespects and tarnishes those who suffered from this tragedy as it is being misused as an excuse to exhibit unacceptable behavior)

openly stated that he was on a voice call and laughing at those of us who disagreed with him (more of a personal attack but absolutely unnecessary in any rational argument as it only serves to mock and belittle the other side and has no functional purpose)

when I referenced the point that neurodivergent people in our own server were the ones at stake here, being unnerved and feeling unsafe by all of this, Sam continued to ignore it and insist it was his right to tell these jokes as he liked.

after I asked this, someone else asked if Sam even cared about those of us in the server, to which Sam freely admitted he didn’t care at all. While we didn’t need his statement as actions speak louder than words, it was nice to know he owned up to it and thought he was justified in doing so.

By this point, I and others on my side of the argument were thoroughly disillusioned and disgusted by our server leader. I had left the servers I shared with Sam and unfriended him around this point. Sam told us off and said if we didn’t like it we could go make our own. In the heat of the moment, I said fine, we will, and right then he abruptly booted me from the server. Supposedly he proceeded to forcibly kick others involved but I was the first to go. I’ll admit I had considered leaving the server, but I had no intention of doing so when I had thought perhaps if both parties cooled their heads and came back, we could either apologize or discuss more rationally. Likewise while I had unfriended him, I had not blocked him on discord because I had hoped we could talk it out better later. Sam banning me made it clear he didn’t want to do that.

regrettably, I have no screenshots - the chat went much too fast for everyone involved and being kicked as quickly as I was there was no time. None of the others do either to my knowledge. According to those who remained longer in the server, Sam deleted the entire chat, most likely to hide his mistakes because, in all honesty - why would you delete so much evidence against people who were wrong when you could have converted it into a shrine of receipts? Given Sam’s following pettiness on the matter he clearly would have kept it and gloated. That said, if Sam or the others have any undoctored screenshots then I encourage him to add them to the discourse - I can’t imagine they’d actually look that bad compared to what he has said and done then and since.

So that was the blowup. Many people left the server if they hadn’t been kicked, and in the wake Sam has gone to town with the absence of the ‘bad people’.

Here are some highlights of Sam clearly showing no regret at the time despite what any later blog posts may suggest. And while this post sounds good on paper, if you put it in the context of “made right after disrespecting people’s deaths so that he could force people to shut up and let them upset minors to their liking” then it sounds a little less than golden.

So there it is. Take this information as you will, but this is basically why I am officially embroiled in discourse and anti-Sam/salify.

Tips for Beginners

When typing this title, my phone autocorrected it to “Tips for Whiners” which is hilarious given the circumstances surrounding this post. However, my conscience got the best of me and I decided to title it differently (even though there was peer pressure for the original title). However, not all beginners are whiners (by far) and I figured it wasn’t fair to lump people into a group. Plus, this post is meant to be far more informative and encouraging than it is critical and teasing.

So why write this post? New writers are always looking for help, whether that’s tools to use to get their writing “out there,” wherever that is, ways to improve their writing, or how to develop relationships. They want to build their audience, which means gaining followers and more notes on posts. They seek out help from fellow writers, work on their own blogs, and write--a lot.

However, some new writers fall into traps of jealousy, complaining, giving up, and other negative pitfalls. They become frustrated, then turn their frustration into jealousy or aggression pointed at other, more “established” writers and bloggers. Or they turn away from the community, resign themselves to being lonely forever, convinced that no one likes them. Some whine about not getting notes and followers, they complain about blogging cliques and unfair treatment, and they adopt an attitude of “Woe is me. The blogosphere is against me.”

And I get it, to a certain extent. Writing is hard, and making a place for yourself in a space that is saturated with other bloggers and headed by accounts that can boast thousands, or even tens of thousands, of followers can be intimidating and discouraging. But it doesn’t have to be.

This post is meant to help new writers, or any writers really, by providing both useful tips and reality checks for when you feel yourself becoming too negative. You might find that I come across sassy at times, and that may be true, but at no point do I intend to be hateful or mean. I like to put things plainly while understanding where people are coming from. As an aside, if you don’t like what I have to say, you can stop reading this post at any time. You can also take what works for you and throw out the rest. Nothing here is a blanket statement.

But let’s just get on with it. (And it is a long one)

Tips

Follow lots of writing blogs. Get your name out there. Start getting to know the community. Some people will automatically follow you back. Use hashtags and key words to find people. See who other people follow, and follow those people.

Join Writing groups/Follow advice blogs. Joining these are so helpful, especially when you’re first starting out. They connect you to other writers, they get your pieces exposure, and they offer other kinds of support and advice. Here’s some blogs that I know of for Supernatural specifically

Host challenges

Find betas

Tagging. Tag. Your. Fics. This gets you exposure to people who are searching for Supernatural fan fiction. The first five tags are searchable, so make use of those. See what the more established writers are using. See what tags are popular. Tag characters, tropes, plots points, pairings, etc.

Mentions. Start building a list of readers who want to be tagged in your pieces. This can be done many ways, but the easiest and most efficient tool that I’ve found is Google sheets to keep track of accounts. Also, look for writers who ask to be tagged and who organize rec lists. Ask other blogs if they care for you to tag them. A lot won’t mind if you’re nice. This will get your writing more exposure.

The Pond runs a list of members you can tag in fics

Reading.

Read other people’s fics, comment on them, reblog them. This may not seem like it helps you, but being generous towards others is a great way to end up helping yourself. It can make you friends. It can make other authors aware of your presence in the writing community. And if it ends up not doing much for you, at least you’ve been a nice person. Participating in the community is key.

Read books when you can. And pay attention to how the author writes. This will improve your own writing. You can see what you like, what you don’t like, styles you want to emulate, and how they build worlds and stories. You will learn new vocabulary and pick up on things that make someone’s writing good.

Challenges. Lots of blogs host these and you can join any of them, most of the time. Some blogs require that you follow them first, some don’t. Either way, joining challenges is fun, it stretches your creativity, and it can gain your work exposure because hosts will reblog your fics and put them on a masterlist. Many blogs host random challenges throughout the year, but there are also “big bangs” if you’re up for writing long fics about your favorite pairings.

Connections. This is one of the most important, most difficult, and often most overlooked tips. You must make friends in the writing community. It��s ok to feel nervous about it, to be shy, or to worry that people won’t like you. We all did at first, but you will be able to make friends if you’re patient. It doesn’t matter who those friends are. It doesn’t matter how many followers these friends have. It only matters that you have them. How do you make these friends?

Message writers about their work. Talk about why you loved it.

Reach out and ask someone to read your work.

Participate in ask games, send nice asks to your favorite authors, participate in other online activities with authors. I host SPN CAH games sometimes, as do other authors. I’ve met lots of new people through those games.

Join open chats. I’ve met some of my best Tumblr friends through chats. These can happen on Skype, Discord, or other online platforms.

Realize that sometimes making a friend just....happens. You’ll hit it off with someone and you won’t know why. Usually this happens because you’ve used one of the above methods to talk to people, or they messaged you first.

Write. Write things you want to publish, write things that no one else will see, write things you immediately delete, write things for only your friends to read. Just, write. This is the only way to improve your writing skills and it will help you grow your blog because people will enjoy your writing more. We all start out kind of crappy, trust me. And we all have to grow. We all go back and read something we wrote months ago and cringe. Yes, even that author that has 5k followers and gets 500 notes on every fic and seems to have perfect stories. Yes, they’ve cringed at their own work. The point, though, is that they’ve grown and worked hard to get where they are and you will have to as well. You can not get better if you don’t write. And you’ll have to write a lot.

Write Better. It’s a hard truth that sometimes what we write isn’t the best quality, but it’s not the end of the world. Nobody’s born an amazing writer and even the best can learn more. Better writing will make it more likely that people will want to read your stories and share them. You can improve your writing by doing some of the following:

Write as much as you can

Read as much as you can

Follow writing advice blogs (!!!)

Find a trusted beta who will work with you to make your stories the best they can be

Now, say you’ve been doing some or all of these things, and you’re not growing as much as you’d like. Maybe you feel like the tips aren’t working for you like they work for other people. Here are some other things to consider, because success isn’t just about numbers.

Are you having fun? Do you enjoy writing? Do you enjoy being on Tumblr? Do you enjoy reading other fics? Do you enjoy being in the fandom? If the answer is yes, and you still love to be on this site posting stories or whatever else you do, then focus on that. Having fun and actually enjoying this is kind of the point.

Do you have friends? Maybe you haven’t made a ton. Maybe you don’t have a huge group of buddies. But do you have someone? Maybe a couple people? If yes, then focus on those friends. Find ways to support each other. Stop pining after the elusive “in-crowd” or “popularity gauge.” It does not exist. There is no clique, just blogs that know each other because they’ve been here awhile

Do you have some interaction on your fics? Maybe you don’t get 500 notes, maybe you don’t even get 50. But what are you getting? You won’t get much at first. That’s just the truth. But eventually, you’ll get something, and then you’ll start getting more. You don’t need tons of reblogs to feel good about your writing. Focus on the comments you do get, reply to them, and thank people for taking time to read your fics. Thank people for liking your fics. Be grateful and count your blessings and all that stuff your mom probably told you growing up.

Now that we’ve talked a lot about what to do, let’s quickly brush over some things NOT to do.

Don’t give up. If writing is something you really, truly enjoy, then keep doing it. If you try it, and find out it’s not really for you, then stop. But don’t stop because you aren’t where you want to be yet. Also, try another platform. Wattpad, AO3, and fanfiction.net are just a few.

Don’t whine, complain, moan & groan. Don’t be that person that constantly whines about how hard you have it. Just don’t. We’ve all had it that hard. And we’ve all had to work hard to get to where we are. Frankly, it makes you sound immature and entitled. Because somehow you think followers and notes and popularity should magically appear to you while the rest of us took months and/or years to build that. Maybe that’s not how you actually feel, but remember... being nice and supportive in the community will get you far with people.

Don’t send hate or rude messages, anon or not. Do I really need to explain this one? What does it gain you, really? Some sick sense of superiority or self-righteousness? A little bit of negative attention? Yeah, it doesn’t get you much then.

Don’t steal work. People will find you out. And then no one will want to read from you again.

The last thing I’m going to talk about is perspective. We all need it from time to time because we get caught up in our own world and what’s happening to us. We forget other people’s experiences and we fail to realize how good we’ve got it or how far we’ve come. But it’s important to have perspective for many reasons. It makes us happier, it gives us patience and quells our frustrations, and it makes the people around us happier because we aren’t being rude to them. So here is some perspective for the writing world.

It will take you months, maybe years. I don’t know how many months it will take you to build your blog to a point where you’re happy with it, but it will take time. Some people take only a few months, others take over a year, maybe more. I wish I could tell you why, but I can’t. It’s just how it is.

There will be people who move faster than you. Story time. I’ve been writing on this blog for exactly a year now. I have 868 followers. (Update two years later, I’m at 2103, so it’s taken me 3 years to get to 2k). But guess what? I have friends who have been writing for less than six months who have almost 2k followers. And I have friends who have been writing about the same time as me who have far more followers than I do. I have gotten frustrated from time to time. It’s only natural. But what I haven’t done is the above things on the “don’t” list. Also, take notice that I said they’re my friends. I actually like these people. I’m not jealous of them.

There will be people who won’t notice you. With big follower and note counts comes lots and lots of notifications. It is easy to miss a comment or a reblog in the midst of that noise. Put personal lives on top of that and more “popular” blogs may have a pretty hard time keeping up with notifications. It’s not fair to them for you to be mad at them for not seeing your particular reblog in the middle of hundreds. And when you reach that point, it won’t be fair for someone to do that to you either.

You will never feel like you’ve “made it” or The Hedonic Treadmill. When you are a small blog, it is easy to look at blogs that have 1k, 5k, and 10k+ followers and feel like they’ve made it. They seem established, they seem to have reached the farthest goals. You aspire to this, and so you feel a huge gap between you and these blogs. You dream about when you reach that point. You dream about how you will feel accomplished and have a sense of finality in your endeavors. “I’ve made it,” you will say. But where exactly is it that you’ve made it to? Newsflash: No matter what goal you reach, you will feel happy about it for a moment and then you will move on and look for the next accomplishment. This is called the Hedonic Treadmill. It’s a common part of life and happens in all areas, including work and school. This is why athletes keep going after winning the olympics or people go back to school to get a second or third Ph.D. The point of all this is that it’s far better to be content where you’re at as you grow than to pine after a goal and place all your happiness and blog-worth on a follower or note goal.

We have a bad judgment of future happiness and sadness. This ties in to the last point. Humans exaggerate both how happy or sad they will feel about a future event. This makes things like reaching 20k followers, for example, seem so amazing and wonderful, but in reality, it’s cool for a little while and then you move on. Basically, we think having these high follower counts and lots of notes on our fics will satisfy us, but it won’t. You may get there and find out that the busyness from Tumblr stresses you out. You may find that you can’t keep up with all the notifications and then you realize you wish you could go back to being smaller. You may suddenly not have so much time to enjoy reading other fics. The grass is greener on the other side and all that. Moral of the story: try to find a way to be happy where you’re at.

Basically, to summarize this giant post, take joy in writing, make some friends, contribute to the community, and focus more on what you do have rather than what you don’t. Realize that everyone, including you, has to do the same hard work to build their blogs. No one else can do it for you. This will make your Tumblr experience so much more enjoyable and that’s what we’re here for, right? To have fun.

✿ Does anyone in real life know about your RPing hobby and what, if anything, have they said about it?

My parents know, because for as long as I’ve been on the internet, they’ve known that I like to write and write with friends overseas. My dad still calls it fanfiction somtimes to other people, like he’s proud of me or something, and that’s enough to make me want to never talk to him again out of embarrassment, ha, but I deal with it. Because I truly do love writing more than anything. Other than that, my boyfriend knows, but he doesn’t care about it / ask questions and I don’t really like to tell him about it either. I’m not as embarrassed about RP as I used to be, but I still feel like it’s just something for me that other people wouldn’t really understand the mechanics of. The only times my boyfriend and I do acknowledge it is when I start talking about an RP friend he hasn’t heard about before like a real life friend, so he’s like who dat and im like oh, new rp friend from > insert country

That being said, he actually did surprise me the other week and I have been holding onto it for fear life. We were complaining about a friend who literally just sleeps and watches Netflix all day when she’s not working, and he’s like “I don’t get how you can do that” and im like “Well I have friends online who claim to do that a lot. Me, personally, I’d get too bored.” and hes like “I just don’t get how people can do nothing all the time? Like at least with you and your online stuff, that’s still doing something. I just feel like that’s actually a hobby.” and I kind of didn’t hear whatever else it is he said because he actually ??? referred to my RP addiction as something valid and worthy??? and all this time i’ve assumed he didn’t get it and thought it was dumb??? IDK, it made me feel good.

✿ Have you considered writing professionally or do you have plans to?

Always. But I never will, I don’t think.

✿ How do you handle the toxicity sometimes found in the roleplaying community, particularly in fandoms?How has roleplaying, specifically, impacted your life?

I use tumblr savior to blacklist a lot, because it really gets too much for me to be exposed to it a lot, and it makes me feel shitty and not want to rp with certain people because of how they behave, or makes me feel guilty for how I behave… I usually drift away from things that give me major negative vibes, otherwise I become in great, exponential danger of saying something i’ll regret. I’ve hated Tumblr RP a lot in this last year. It’s nowhere near as relaxed as it used to be, and I know there’s a lot of political debate on the topic of equality but I am not comfortable in a space where I have to edit everything I do and say or just not do or say it at all. When it gets like that level, a good dose of the unfollow button and keeping my mouth shut is what I find the most helpful.

✿ How has writing improved your life and do you see yourself sticking with it?

When I graduated high school, I went to college for art and animation, and it basically ruined my creative life. Before RP, I used to be an avid drawer, I sketched every day, I improved my skills and motivation so much, everyone knew me as the girl who drew in class instead of did her work, the girl who was going to grow up and be a famous artist, and when I went to college, it killed that for me. My ego took a big blow because the tech side of the course absolutely annihilated me, i couldn’t do it. so after that (and that was 2 years ago now) i haven’t really drawn since. but the silver lining was that I took on RP more dedicatedly after that, and found that I truly adored writing. Try as I might, I’ve never really comitted to a personal writing project, and it’s only in the recent times that I’ve taken the pressure off for me to do it, but. RP makes me happy, it makes me feel like I’m doing something good when I reply to people or make new friendships, it makes me feel like I’m wanted and needed, that my characters and plots are valid and that other people would care if I’m here or not. It was a big boost for my self confidence, and it’s also made me so much more privy to the creative world, which i needed after that. so yeah, i see myself sticking with writing.

✿ Is there a quote from a piece of literature that holds great value to you? What is it and why is it important to you?

She stood in front of her closet mirror in her T-shirt and twisted this way and that. What’s wrong with me? She wondered. There was nothing the matter that she could see. She was tall and leggy, like her mother, with full breasts, small waist, and slim hips that curved enough to show she was female. Her skin was gently golden; it was always golden, sun or not, and her tawny hair was thick and long and wild. So why was it that groups of girls stopped talking when she approached them at school and answered her openings with tense words that killed the conversations she tried to start? Was she too good-looking? Was that possible? Was that the threat they saw?

Legitimately, this was the first and pretty much only female protagonist I had ever read about who fully and whole-heartedly loved herself where it mattered. Sure, she still had her shortcomings and moments of weakness, but god damn, Vivian was so proud of herself and what she stood for, and that was so refreshing to see during that period of young adult fiction. It’s why she became my first favourite character from a book. And has pretty much inspired me to write feirce, aggressive, self-assured female characters ever since. I was just so inspired by her way of thinking as a young girl, it appealed to me so much and so that moment in the book plus a whole lot of others, really stuck with me.

✿ What do you typically look for in a roleplay partner?

Cliche, but chemistry. And not always in the writing kind but a lot in the OOC kind. I like people who I can talk to super easily, who write in the same tumblr language I do, who reference memes and are not afraid to hit me up with IMs and head canons, etc. I just love it because it makes me feel comfortable with a person, and like I’m not being a bother. The better I get to know a player, the better I get to know their character away from IC interactions. Likewise, I adore it when players get to know me so well that they read the patterns in my characters easily, and I don’t feel like I have to explain them all the time? It’s like they just know, and they know what path I want to put them on. I also look for honesty, people who are down to tell me what they’re feeling about a situation or whether something bothers them, or is able to voice if I’m doing something wrong. Most importantly though, I look for decisive people. Not overly decisive but it’s just so important for me to have someone who is like “yes that sounds good, i can start a thing for you if you want” or “i dont think that really fits, how about this plot idea instead?” I really cannot stand sending IMs to people about plots and characters and them just agreeing off the bat the whole time, but never really deciding on anything either, and so it makes me feel like i’m just paddling in a circle until i make all the decisions for us. To me, that’s not what RP is about. It involves teamwork, and effort, and to me, that’s not putting in effort. It gets me really frustrated.

✿ What made you want to join the roleplaying community?

I kept seeing bios in celebrity tags, and so when i sussed out what group rp was on tumblr, i was like holy shit there is a name for the thing i have been doing with friends over email for so many years???? and you can use PICTURES? i gotta get on this.

so somehow, i found a group rp that allowed mythical creatures, i wanted to be a peter pan mermaid, and the rest is history~~

✿ What one piece of literature has been most inspirational/life changing for you? Why?

(( Blood & Chocolate, by Anette Curtis Klause — because of the main character, as per mentioned. She’s inspired me to write full-on, aggressive, assertive, don’t-tell-me-what-i-can-and-cant-do female characters without apology. ))

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen — it’s hard to explain exactly why, and it doesnt even just involve ONE of her books either, but they’ve kind of shaped my whole general character story directions?? her books always follow a pattern and i really admire that pattern, even if it is repetitive, and i am secretly a hopeless romantic so i really like how her love stories evolve. it’s always slow burning, the boy is usually a direct surprising love interest, and the girl always gains new friends and family out of it, and the stories always involve a nice little reoccurring theme. In the Truth About Forever, it’s a game that she and a boy plays throughout the entire book, which eventually leads to a shift from friendship to something more. THAT PLOT HAS APPEALED TO ME EVERY SINCE. the example of a teeny, tiny, otherwise-completely-average moment greatly impacting the rest of a characters life with someone else… i am weAK for this concept ok. her females are always usally feircely independent too and that gets me ♥

✿ Who are your top three favorite fictional characters and why?

Vivian Gandillon (Blood & Chocolate) — i swear i could go on repeat forever haha, but i’ve basically already mentioned why.

Jace Herondale (Shadowhunter Series) — back when the first like, two books had only been published, i super fell hard for this series and it was straight up because of the commentary done by Jace and his ability to senselessly bicker with everybody in his path. his comments to me, were always absolutely hysterical. i was so in love with his wry and witty comments, especially the way he kept at ease and casual through super distressing situations, and i really wish id kept reading the rest of the series as it was published, but i seriously fell behind. then the movie came out. then the netflix series. now i’ve grown too far out of it and having to see the cast on my dash every second of every day makes me want to burn the books.

Shane Collins (Morganville Vampire Series) — this is an oooold old series that i used to read religiously, and it was more in the style of anita blake and buffy vampires~ rather than twilight and true blood -esque content. it got really weird and complicated though so i gave up on it, but for a time, i adored it. and i loved shane because he was hilariously human, he hated everybody except his housemates (though sometimes that could be questioned) and nobody held a grudge better than him. he had a knack for getting in trouble, usually on his own accord, was feircely protective and spent most of his time just being a genuine nuisance and temper tantrum thrower. i saw a lot of me in him, and idk. i just like people with tempers, i think it makes them super fun to read.

Alright, so, Friday my life. A post-mortem review.

This is going to sound so stupid. Please feel free to skip the percipitous freefall of whiny self hatred/self pity that follows. I’m mostly just writing it out to crystallize the mental concept of it in my head, in the hopes of being better at recognizing the warning signs of this behavior in the future.

Anyway, there I was, friday, after more or less a whole week of not sucking, and I arrive at work pretty much on time, and... Ok. So, I used to work the front desk? And now I mostly work back room (in our case basement) filing and such. So I have a lot of time to myself. And I’m on salary, so apart from needing to be in the office during our official hours to take calls, it doesn’t really matter exactly when or how long I’m there, so long as all my work gets done, which mostly consists of:

taking messages returning the messages / passing them along as needed calling to confirm appointments a few days in advance pulling & prepping patient charts for the next days’ appointments putting away the charts from the previous days appointments filing paperwork into patient charts as necessary.

It’s not all that much, and I’m basically paid (and officially scheduled) for part time work. However, again apart from having to be there to answer phones, the lack of direct oversight (I’m in the basement while everyone else is upstairs) and the fact that it doesn’t technically matter how long it takes me to do shit so long as the shit gets done (again, I’m on salary, so it’s not like I’m stealing hours or anything), creates this environment that very much enables my worse tendencies in terms of time management. I can get in this funk, where I waste a lot of time at work, usually on the internet (tumblr, game forums, whatever), sometimes other ways (reading a book, playing pokemon, just spacing the fuck out), and I end up dragging on and on until finally I snap out of it and call my people and throw the next days charts together, and finally leave the office after spending 8 to 12 hours when I was only supposed to be there for 4 to 6.

And then my entire day is gone. And I’m tired and starving so I end up stopping and eating like 2 to 3 meals worth of fast food garbage on the way home, and then feel sick to my stomach in the morning so I don’t eat breakfast and end up eating even more when I leave late the next day.

Worse, it actually does affect my work, because while answering messages and confirming appointments and pulling charts absolutely has to happen on time, the same can’t really be said about the filing. Like, nobody notices if the filing lags behind unless they’re looking for a specific thing in someone’s chart.

So.... yeah. On the one hand, this is the best (only?) job for me, because I don’t get fired for meing out every once in a while. On the other hand, it’s the worst job for me, because when I start to me out, there’s no immediate repercussions to stop me from falling entirely off the deep end.

Hence why ‘actually go the fuck home from work’ has consistently featured on my to-do list, even though one wouldn’t generally think someone would have to put that there. At least, not someone as lazy as myself. It has, if anything, been the most critical item on the to do list.

That’s also how there got to be a filing backlog that I’ve mentioned once or twice.

So, that’s my lousy, all consuming work spiral, and the typical form my terribleness takes now that I’m no longer in classes for it to manifest in more flagrant ways. It is also the main reasons why I end up flaking out on so much else that I attempt to do, particularly on the blogging front, but also when it comes to studying, doing any sort of side projects, going out with friends, keeping up with family, job hunting, or just... just any of the many, many things that I should have had all the time in the world to do ever since I finished classes and only have a part time job’s worth of actual weekly obligations to fill.

And that’s the spiral I was making some good progress digging myself out of last week, albeit with less than the desired amount of progress made on the filing backlog. Until Friday. And apparently I had just over-taxed my self-management wires, because I fell right back in.

EDIT: you know what, I don’t need to dig into exactly how things went on Friday, or what stupid thing knocked me back in the hole, but in the hole I went.

And then, feeling bad about myself on Saturday, I didn’t make a list or pay attention to anything I did and ended up eating way too many brownies and buffalo wings at the weekly D&D gathering, and I don’t know if it was the wings or the brownies, but one of the two turned my guts fucking inside out all through sunday and monday.

And then I caught a head cold that’s been going around, so had stuffiness & a sore throat on top of guts that were convinced I has swallowed a bunch of barbed wire instead of piles of delicious brownies and spicy chicken bits slathered in blue cheese dip.

The roommate, who I was so unfairly complaining about just last week, thinks I have been suffering from heart burn, and gave me some omeprazole. And to thank him for that, my sick ass ended up skipping his birthday party yesterday to stay home and play Skyrim, even though I wasn’t that sick yesterday, and probably could have gone if I had just pushed myself to go.

Which makes me a fucking ass hole on top of being a lazy git.

So, anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to, a lot of feeling sick and miserable, most of it over entirely self-inflicted hassles that hardly even qualify as serious damage, since the only thing that suffered as a result was my own self image. It left me utterly worthless for like a week, and I’m still sick, but fortunately the Doc’s been out of town this week, so work’s been more or less frozen, and my worthlessness hasn’t resulted in any real world harm to myself or anyone else.

I’m trying to start getting back on track today, even though I still feel like shit. Although, because I still feel like shit, I didn’t even try to do a lot, other than just make a list in the first place. I’ll have to go into work on what is otherwise my day off tomorrow to finish getting things ready for Friday, and maybe, maybe, make some progress on that filing.

In the long scheme of things, it wasn’t that terrible a meltdown, but if I’m going to make any long term progress on not being a colossal sack of garbage, I’m going to have to do a lot better than ‘one week on, one week off’.

So we venting because I gotta type all this shit out so that I can get over it or something u know? Ok so. Vent undercut!

I had this friend who I never rlly felt like I could state my opinion with. They're rlly opinionated and a few times if I had an opinion they didn't agree with they would just not talk to me for like a day or two. We were in this group chat, and I'd be active in the group chat and I'd see them reading my texts and never responding despite them being one of the people who responded pretty normally most of the time. Obviously people can just be busy sometimes but it happened a lot after they disagreed with me and I feel like most of the time they were just ghosting me. So basically I agreed with them on a lot of things I didn't rlly agree on, and I'd put a lot of thought into some texts because some times I just didn't know what kind of things might make them ghost me. It honestly made me feel like shit a lot of the time and I never brought it up because what if they just ghosted me? And they're friends with a lot of my friends so I'm thinking "wow what if this makes them hate me, and then our friends decide they'd choose them over me, etc." and I didn't want to lose all my friends! Especially when we're all in college and don't see each other as much. Admittedly I should not have to worry that my friends will choose someone over me. But I'm anxious about it so I'm preparing for the worst. So I stay quiet about these things.

But a month or maybe a month and half ago, my mother volunteers me to babysit some kids. And I'm in the group chat like "I don't like kids why would I get volunteered for this, don't get me wrong I wouldn't be an asshole to kids but I'd like to avoid them." To which they disagree with me. Obviously they think it's pretty shitty of me to not like kids. I've gotten this a lot and I'm over it. I'm like. I'm not an asshole to kids. I think they're annoying and don't like looking after them and don't want any kids. But I know it's not they're fault their kids! I'm not gonna be rude to kids just because they're kids. But I still don't like them! I say this in the group chat but this friend ain't rlly having it so they don't talk to me for the day or whatever and I'm still going about my business like I normally would. But the time passes and I'm like. Nah fuck it. I'm sick of being ghosted. So in retaliation, I ghost them. I was like if ur gonna ghost me all the time I will simply ghost u back! And at the time I was upset with another friend in the group chat so I left the group chat. I didn't talk to the original friend at all, though I easily expressed my feelings to the other one and every thing was fine with them.

After a week this friend comes and dms me and apologizes for disagreeing with me about kids. This isn't the main reason I'm not talking to them, but they're actually apologizing and that's wild. As I said before they're rlly opinionated so I feel like they wouldn't often apologize for having different opinions. So I go back to the group chat and everything's fine for like a day.

But then they're just not responding to anything for awhile. I'm thinking. Well I didn't do anything wrong.... must be a personal problem? They're posting on their Snapchat story that they're crying a ton and so I dm them I'm like. "Hey idk how to show u I rlly do care about u other than saying I think u should talk to someone." I'm rlly trying to help! But they snap at me in response! They're like "what makes you think I'm not talking to people" and I'm really trying to be more open with them so I let them know, I say I feel like they aren't usually the kind of person to talk about what's bothering them and they tell me they are talking to people and I'm like. Ok then. Sorry for trying u know??? And then they go back to not saying anything.

A few days pass and they go in the group chat accusing me and another friend of vaguing about them on twitter. They had posted something about kpop fans never shutting up on their tumblr, and around that time I had posted on twitter saying that I never shut up about things way before I got into kpop. I had posted this because my dad was complaining about it and I was sick of it. But someone sent them an anon on tumblr saying that that's just how all fandoms are, and they thought I was the anon! So they stalked me on twitter (they never followed me so they wouldn't have seen my post otherwise) and concluded that I must've seen their tumblr post, sent them an anon, and then vagued about it on twitter. I don't follow them on tumblr so I didn't even see the post until they brought it up in the group chat.

But still they're accusing me of this. I tell them I wasn't vaguing about them, it was in fact about my family, etc. they're saying it's too much of a coincidence. But I didn't vague! So what am I gonna do?? I'm not gonna apologize because I blatantly didn't do anything? Not to mention they brought it up in the group chat. There were two other people in that group chat that had nothing to do with the whole situation, but this friend decided it was "their right to know the whole story" like. What? But they have nothing to do with it? But ok.

Anyway my other friend admits that she was vaguing, and they have their own argument, and then the original friend says we all need to change.

Like. I still never did anything wrong and I simply don't see how I need to change? So I say I have nothing to change and everything ends there and it's like. Ok awkward ig. But things eventually continue as normal in the group chat, except they seem to refuse to say almost anything to me.

A week passed and I'm like. I'm sick of this fr and I text them like "anyway do u hate me now??" And they're like "I don't hate u but I need some space and we both need to work hard but u said u don't need to change so it'll be awhile before we can become friends again" (ofc I am paraphrasing this all so take that how u will). I'm like. Wym I need to change? I didn't do anything wrong??? Ur the one who accused me of vaguing when I didn't??? Ur the one who ghosted all the time??? They're like "how was I supposed to know you weren't vaguing about me?" And "I was saying we all need to change so that we can all be more honest with each other and open with each other" like. Any time I wasn't honest with you I was just agreeing with you so that you wouldn't ghost me but okay I'm definitely one of the people at fault for not being able to trust each other. I STILL don't know what they mean "we need to be more open and honest with each other" like? Any other time I was open and honest with them??? But also they're like "you ghosted me for a week because we argued about kids" and then they accused me of saying they weren't important enough for me to think about! Okay I NEVER did that?? And I have a friend who agreed they don't remember me ever saying that. The most I might've said is "not everything's about you" harsh perhaps but! Not what they claimed I said. Not to mention I didn't ghost you for a week because of kids I ghosted you because I was sick of you ghosting me! But ok! Anyway they go on to say that "if we can't figure this out without fighting then we shouldn't be friends" Pretty much all I've done is defend myself against ur accusations and say I don't need to change because I don't. But like ok! I'm like. I never said you weren't important and I'm justified in my ghosting! They did that shit and just had everything go back to normal so many times I think I can be mad once okay. Im rlly like. U know what I've been a good friend??? And I don't think I need to change and this is ur loss. They're rlly like "I didn't say u weren't allowed to get mad but ur getting on my case for ghosting when u just did the exact same thing" like yeah me doing it once in retaliation to ALL the times you did it is definitely equal to u doing it over any disagreement..... ok! (Ugh, sorry for this late reply! OTL I’ve been busy and whenever I sat down to try and write this message it would be bedtime before I’d even gotten halfway through)

If we want him to be happy the best, most plausible and canon-compliant choice is Saiko…yet Ishida’s been ignoring her ever since she told Urie she loves him ;-; #IshidaY

Correction: Ishida (like Shuu and Uta) is a picky eater. He’ll only eat human flesh that’s been steadily stewing in misery for at least a year, and the bitterest, saltiest tears are all he ever drinks.

Ishida’s eating habits being similar to Uta’s makes sense though, since he actually said he gave Uta some of his hobbies lol

Just stop hurting us, please…Ishida needs to redeem himself with Hide’s return as quickly as possible. Either that or something bad needs to happen to Furuta (if Rize somehow breaks free and eats him I’m sure at least half of the fandom would realize that they can, in fact, be satisfied).

Hmm, I was fine with Re up until this arc. Touken feels forced, shippy fluff and Mutsuki drama is getting in the way of the ACTUAL plot (even with all his trolling skills, Ishida cannot convince me that sex scenes and love triangles/squares are more important than how the Q squad is dealing with their trauma from the last battle, what Juuzou, Urie and other investigators are going to do now that they suspect Furuta is lying, how the rest of Goat is doing, what Uta and the Clowns are up to, and Furuta finding a way to, oh, I don’t know, BRING BACK THE FREAKING DEAD). It’s like Ishida has a really interesting plot in there somewhere, but he’s buried it beneath the pointless, badly timed romance.

As for Mutsuki, I used to be a bit 'meh' about them (I used to like them, and then I didn’t mind their backstory/the treatment they got at Torso’s hands simply because I got spoiled and knew it was coming from the very beginning, plus the parellels with Kaneki had me thinking they’d get a similar interesting development) but I’m starting to become more and more indifferent towards them because they just feel really flat now- a basic murder-bot, a copy of characters like Yuno Gasai. Maybe I’d sympathize with them more if their love for Sasaki/Kaneki felt a bit more genuine, but as it is, it seems lacking. It feels like we’re viewing Mutsuki from an outsider’s POV; not much about their actual feelings or thought process about the entire situation, just a bunch of crazy, yandere moments with a few

Me + a person with Shuu’s personality would be pretty hilarious if we managed to get along well. Since at first sight, I appear like this really quite and polite person who’s way too nice for their own good (sort of like an even more introverted and awkward version of Kuroneki), but with people I’m really close with I suddenly turn into Haise with all of his cringe-worthy moments- plus a little bit of dry humor and sarcasm.

Haven’t got the chance to listen to all of those yet but what little I’ve heard sounds lovely! The first three and Soldier Game are my favorites, I think :)

Loki’s hair is actually as long/maybe longer than Thor’s in later movies tho XD but I’m glad Thor’s getting some love! A lot of fans just characterize him as this big blonde idiot who has no clue what he’s doing, when in fact he’s grown quite a bit since the first Thor movie, where he was a reckless, hot-blooded, proud and arrogant person who really did have no clue what he was doing…sort of like musical-verse Hamilton minus his book smart nature and power of speech (isn’t that a terrifying thought?). Never knowing when to shut up and back down, which is coincidentally one of the things that damaged his relationship with Loki- who is his opposite in almost everything.

Without spoiling too much, let’s just say:

Thor is the extrovert, Loki is the introvert. Thor relies mostly on his raw physical power to get the job done (though he’s much more diplomatic now than he was in his first movie), Loki’s power lies in his words (he IS the god of lies after all) and his cunning. Thor can sometimes be a bit thick about the emotions of those around him, Loki reads people like open books and manipulates them like puppets on a string. No matter how much Thor grows up he’ll still have a bit of his old hot-tempered, non-stop personality, while Loki usually prefers to wait for it until he’s sure of the situation.

Unfortunately, Asgard (Thor and Loki’s 'home’- though Loki doesn’t consider Asgard his home anymore) values courageous warriors over quiet scholars and sorcerers like Loki. They praise honesty and boldness; Loki’s lies and illusions make them uneasy and they see him as a coward.

Despite being a prince, Loki has spent almost his whole life being identified as simply 'Thor’s brother’. People tolerate him because he’s a prince and Thor’s Brother, 'friends’ hang out with him because he’s Thor’s Brother, few openly show that they dislike him becuase he’s Thor’s Brother. Heck, when he lands on earth during the first Avengers movie, humans immediately identify him as none other than Thor’s Brother. He’s spent his entire life in Thor’s shadow.

It’s a very Burr-Hamilton relationship, and you can’t really blame Loki for wanting to be in the room where it happens.

1: Abandoned Loki because he was a 'runt’

2: Didn’t just abandon him; left him outside in the freezing cold in the middle of a freaking battlefield

What Odin did:

1: He rescued Loki when Laufey abandoned him because he felt sorry for the child…and also because he was planning use him as a pawn to someday make peace with the frost giants.

2: was planning to never, ever have a decent, reasonable 'you’re adopted, but you’re just as much my child as Thor is’ conversation with Loki

3: 'Yes, frost giants are terrible, bloodthirsty creatures, they are completely irredeemable’

4: some years later- 'Am I…? 'Yes, you are also a frost giant’

5: it’s heavily implied that he, like most others, always paid more attention to Thor than Loki

6: 'FATHER! I could have done it! For you…!’ 'No, Loki.’ *lets his adoptive son FALL INTO AN ABYSS IN SPACE. Like, he literally just stands there, watching Loki let go and fall to his death (well, not actually death, but that’s what it looks like)*

6: 'Both of you were born to be kings’

Later: 'All this because Loki desires a throne…YOUR BIRTHRIGHT WAS TO DIE! As a child, cast out on a frozen rock. If I had not taken you in, perhaps you would not be here now to hate me.’

I don’t hate Odin as much as the rest of the fandom seems to, and I do think he had reasons for doing what he did, but the fact still stands that he can be a massive hypocrite (tells Loki that he can’t try to take over the earth because they are no different from humans in the end, then tells Thor he shouldn’t date a human woman and calls her a 'goat’) and the things he did to Loki were just cruel.

Also, Thor, though he never wanted to hurt Loki, didn’t help. From what little we got to see in the Thor movies, it seems he also thought Loki was a bit weird for his quiet nature and interest in books and magic, usually refused to listen to anything he had to say, and just took his presence for granted most of the time so that he never realized how much Loki mattered to him until he lost him.)

Ok, so I’m trying to start the fic and I’m narrowing it down to Urie, Ken, and Shuu. I mean, the obvious choice is Urie since it seems like he’s one of your faves, but Heathers is a bit of a…graphic…story and while I’ve thrown in a bit of extra fluff IT WILL NOT BE A HAPPY FIC. So. Maybe you don’t want to see your favorite character hurt that way…

Also, because it’s HEATHERS, the story that’s set in a normal high school with absolutely no sci-fi or fantasy yet manages to be almost as dark as Black Butler, I guess I should put some warnings…

Slight yandere-ish behavior, murder, bullying, very vague mentions of self-harm and suicide (nobody actually does it or did it though), implied child abuse, sort-of-smut(scene cuts off right before anything smutty actually happens), and a ton of angst

(hint: it’s probably angstier than that thing I wrote about Viktor in a TG AU)

You’re definitely a masochist. I mean, anyone who reads TGRe is (does that make me one as well…?). The AU is my pride and joy, the best idea I’ve ever had. I mean, just imagine it. Everyone being happy and enjoying life without suffering.

I’m sure you’ll do just fine ^^ I may not have anxiety but I do know the feeling of stage-fright. I mean, just a few weeks ago, I was at the japanese speaking contest and I still remember how badly I was shaking before, during and after my speech. I was so afraid I’d mess up… and I did! I did not understand any of the questions they asked me. Only later did I realise what they were trying to say, but in the moment, I was too scared to comprehend basically anything. However, I got through it, no matter how scared I was. So I’m sure you’ll do just as well, if not better!

Yeah, Evans is a bit of a boyish name. My first association with it before I met you was Soul Evans, from Soul Eater, a guy. It’s also part of the reason why I was really afraid to write anything that might delude your gender, since lots of people get mad when people assume.

Jealous Urie would be one of the most hilarious things ever. He’s to awkward to admit it, which means he also doesn’t do anything about it. How fun.

But you still haven’t answered my question… Who would you pick to be your significant other from the other fandoms we share, like Kuroshitsuji, AoT or YoI? Or even the Avengers universe ;) You’re not avoiding it!

Honestly, Shuu is one of those people who get along with basically everyone, so I’m sure you’d get along with him. Besides, he’s empathetic, so he’d give everyone a chance to open up.

Oh really? Well, I was planning on watching the first Avengers movie and the Thor movies today and tomorrow (and maybe during the next week), so I’ll definitely tell you my opinion, then ^^ But Thor has short hair in the new movie. I am definitely not satisfied =3=

D&W Celebrates Six Years of Chubstr With The Plus Bus

Earlier this month I got to attend the 6th anniversary celebration of Chubstr, a marvelous plus-sized lifestyle blog whose contributors I’ve been friends with, online and in real life, for a few years. Conveniently for me the celebration was held right here in Los Angeles, at the Plus Bus, a plus-sized boutique and consignment shop that was originally just for women, but is now starting to branch into men’s apparel as well.

Originally I was just going to go as a civilian and maybe swap some shirts, but then I realized, what better event to cover for D&W then a bunch of people loving their bodies and their style? I put on my journalist hat and had a couple of chats, first with Chubstr founder Bruce Sturgell.

Angel: I originally learned about Chubstr through my friend Tyler.

Bruce: Tyler Jacobs!

A: Yes, we trained sumo together for a little bit, so that's that's how I met him, then found out about the site through his contributions. When did you found Chubstr?

B: I started blogging in September 2010, before it was called Chubstr. Basically, it started out of frustration. I had been looking for clothes… [My wife and I] lived in southwest Missouri at the time, where there’s no options except for the mall. I’d go to the mall and try to find things that are right on that size line where sometimes you can find things, but usually you can't.

A: Oh, I learned about that line from my girlfriend! The word for that, at least in women's fashion, is an “in-betweenie.”

B: Yes, so I was an in-betweenie. I would go in, look for clothes, and leave empty-handed. I did that for a while and finally decided to start a blog, so I went to Tumblr and started complaining.

A: Me, too!

B: Tumblr is great because there are so many micro-communities.

A: Exactly, it's really good to build up a niche following.

B: Definitely. I started calling out brands that weren't carrying extended sizes, started calling out web sites... I would run into web sites where they may carry a 3X, but you couldn't do the drop-down size search and get the 3X, it would go to 1X or maybe XL...

A: ...And they have one shirt that’s 3X but the shirt you wanted is nowhere near that size!

B: Exactly! The whole thing was frustrating, so I started talking about that and blogging. People started responding to it. I was putting up photos of looks I put together and sharing all that of information, resources, and everything. I have a marketing background, I've been doing online marketing and strategy for 15 years now. I realized that there was something there, there was a community, but there was more than just me complaining about Brand X not carrying something.

A: There's more to just complaining, who would have thought!? (laughs)

B: On the Internet, even! So I spent a little time, and Chubstr was born March of 2011, six years ago. That's where it came from.

A: Besides the anniversary, what was the genesis of celebrating in this particular way with the Plus Bus?

B: You know, we wanted to work together for a long time, I would say two or three years, but just had't been able to make it work. This came together kind of last minute. I said I wanted to do something for my anniversary, and they were like “you know what? Let's do it here!” So we just put it all together and came down here and I thought "what a cool way to do this, in L.A, where I know there are a lot of body-positive people who are really into this, and a lot of of Chubstr readers!” It just made sense.

A: So what’s the thing you enjoy most about running Chubstr?

B: There are a couple of different things. I think the biggest thing for me is really helping people. It sounds cheesy, you know, "helping people," but that's really what it comes down to.

A: It's validating to do things that validate other people!

B: It is, to build something like this and see that you're able to help people while you're doing this. I think it's huge, and you see that people are able to find not just clothing, but confidence. They are able to feel better about themselves, to understand that they're not alone. This has turned into something that I never expected it to turn into. Even the people who follow the site, our readers...I expected anybody who was going to be into this to kind of look like me, you know, short and wide. But we have people who are who are thinner, we have people who are bigger... It's turned into something that's so much more than what I expected and it's awesome!

A: The problem of how to enjoy your body affects a lot of different sized people, no matter what. Anything born out of empathy and community will attract a broad spectrum of people.

B: Definitely. Absolutely.

A: So what’s the next big development on the horizon for Chubstr?

B: I think that the big goal for this year is to really grow our audience and get out there more to build out what we've started to do. We're going to be doing more photo shoots. We're starting to do more live events. We are working on more partnerships. It's really just taking this and saying “OK, it's been at this place for a little while, and I feel good about where things are going, but I want to try to expand it in other ways.” I think we'll see growth in our online shop. I have bigger plans for Chubstr, and I see that there are other ways this can go, so I want to follow through.

A: And now a personal question: What's something that you like to wear that makes you feel like you're looking really good? For me, I like wearing ties. I can't feel like I look bad if I'm wearing a tie, either a bow tie or a four-in-hand tie. What's your “talisman of style?”

B: I'm a cap guy. I'm a hat guy. If I have a good driver cap… Usually not like a ball cap, that’s not really my thing, but if I have an old school cap, I feel good, that's my thing. I've always gravitated toward that.

A: And then one more... Do you oil that beard?

B: Whenever I remember my oil! I totally forgot my beard oil when I came down here and I've been using Lay-Rite...

A: Where do you live right now?

B: I live in Portland, Oregon. I forgot my beard oil and my beard brush when I left. I mean it's... How does that happen? But luckily, my wife had some oil that I was able to use that had the same kind of ingredients and no smell, or at least a light smell, I can't really tell. But yeah, I definitely have to oil.

A: Last night I was at a comedy show and met another comedian who had a beard, too. I asked him what he put in it, and he was like “Oh my brother actually makes his own beard oils!” So I added him on Facebook that night and the first thing I posted on his wall is “Let your brother know I'm always interested in proprietary beard oils!” I realized “Oh, this is what being friends with me is like.”

B: (Laughs) Nice.

After a bit of bearded bro-bonding with Bruce, I looked around the Plus Bus store, enjoying its unapologetic feminist vibe…

Then I managed to grab a few words with the founders and owners of The Plus Bus, Marcy Guevara-Prete and Jen Wilder!

Angel: So one thing I'll ask first is that I've noticed that this is not actually... a bus. Did the business start out as a truck, like a mobile thing?

Marcy: It started out as a pop-up in 2014. We had been to some swaps and then decided to do our own.

Jen: In true Marcy/Jen fashion we over-complicated it, but it was really well done.

A: Clue me in on the Marcy/Jen background. How did you two meet?

M: We met through the plus-sized fashion industry, at a fashion event in New York, and we kind of clicked and shortly thereafter planned to attend British Plus-Size Fashion Week in London together.

J: I was a fan girl from day one. I walked up to her and was like "Oh my God, Marcy Guevara!"

A: So you both have been active in the industry since before you two met.

J: Yes, I had a clothing line and she is... Marcy!

M: I have done hosting and TV work in the plus-sized sector. So, after the first swap, we had so much clothes left over, and the reason the swap started was that we both had so much clothes! Just from shopping, and being influencers, we accumulated so much that we couldn't possibly wear or keep in our homes, so we thought we'd put our own swap together.

J: Overwhelming! I was like "I'm not buying anymore clothes," and [Marcy] was like "but you can swaaaap!”

M: So then we had all these clothes left over and we started popping up at the Rose Bowl every weekend. Then we found this space and thought, “Oh, imagine if we could be open every day!”

A: It seems like to me like the plus size clothing world is definitely built around a sense of community. It's like very much people being like, “we all need to help each other out because it's so hard to find stuff for ourselves.”

J: It's not just clothes… It’s… You're gonna make me, like... I'm choking up!

A: Stay in that feeling! Share it!

J: You know, people come in here and… It's like it changes them, you know?

M: I had a stylist come in before you got here, and she was like “I didn't want to compromise on [my model’s] look because of her size. I wanted to just ask her to bring what she had, but then I looked on Yelp and you guys were here!” We feel every day that we're filling a need, and we know we are. We just keep plugging away at it. The way clothes make you feel is super powerful, we believe in that.

J: It's about seeing yourself and being yourself.

A: I've learned myself that one of the first steps to feeling good about your own body is just to wear stuff that fits it. I feel like one of the everyday things that can make me feel like my body isn't that great is if I'm trying to struggle into something.

J: If you're not comfortable, you're not going to look cute, that's the bottom line.

M: Because you're not going to feel cute. I mean, you might look amazing, but if you're not comfortable in what you're wearing, you're not going to feel good when you walk out the door.

A: So let me ask you something on a personal note: What's something that, when you put it on, you feel really good about yourself? With Bruce I called it a “talisman of style.”

J: Lipstick and sunglasses. That's like my thing, I think. I love sunglasses like no other. I have the craziest collection of sunglasses and I have so many dark lipsticks. [Marcy] was looking for a neutral in my bag and I was like, “You're not gonna find it!”

M: (To Jen) I wish you would say something plus-size, because lipstick and sunglasses fit everybody, you know what I mean?

A: “You gotta be on brand!”

M: I think that that's what the plus-size girl experience was like when you're in seventh grade going to Contempo. You're like "I'll see you at the earrings!" I mean, I think Jen is a true layers diva!

J: I just wear whatever I want to wear, whenever I want to wear it, without thinking about what that means or where I'm going. I just want to be able to express whatever I feel that day. Working in a clothing store of course, presents endless possibilities.

M: I have a brand that I love that makes me feel like a million bucks. Her name is Francesca Duran and she makes a brand called Babooshka Boutique, that will only be available at the Plus Bus soon. I love her clothes, I love the way it makes me feel. The cuts are very chic, and it just always makes me feel like I look like I fit in, I look like I work with fashion and celebrities. At least in L.A. as a plus-sized girl you always want to look expensive. That's a priority for me. You don't have to spend a lot of money, but you want to look like you do.

A: What made you decide to expand into men's clothing, no pun intended?

J: I mean, there's even less available for men in plus-sized fashion than I think there is for women. It's like, there is a certain type of stuff that's available, but, it’s the same situation that made us start the Plus Bus. Having diverse styles gives you the advantage of trying out different things and not just wearing something because it fits you. There’s an actual joy in finding something that you've always wanted to try, but you've never found it in your size, and it's already worn in and a perfect denim, or whatever, and it's great. It's just a good feeling.

M: We are about representation, so we just want everyone to feel great. If ASOS is doing plus size, that's a huge indicator that you know it's to be taken seriously, for men and for women. We hope that more guys, and more people that like menswear, will catch on and come and bring their clothes!

A: Good inclusive turn of phrase!

M: We're super inclusive here, and that's our goal, just that everyone feels welcome and whatever you want to wear, whatever you want to be wearing and feel good in, especially if you're plus-size, we have it and we'll help you find it.

J: And men come in and ask if we have men's stuff, and and I hate saying no! Or their wives come in and they're like “do you have any men's stuff because we're going to the same event and we both need to look really good!” It's definitely like the other side of the coin. Why not have it if we're already here doing that for women?
