It's just so fucking weird??? like Frollo's misogyny is. a core part of his character in every version of the story. why do ppl think a violent misogynist abusing his power and utilizing institutional misogyny and racism against a woman (who was a teenage girl in the original!!) whose soul crime is existing is sexy WHY WOULD THEY MAKE THE VIOLENT MISOGYNIST A TRANS WOMAN??? how could the author not see any problems here?!?!

Starkiller is OP because he redirected the path of an already-falling Star Destroyer and still had to dodge out of the way but Luke Skywalker killing Force Cthulhu is not only okay but actually preferable to anything that Disney!canon has done with Luke.

ummm physically uhhh...i like that despite struggling with a rare and painful disease, my body is still going and keeping me strong! i like that my hair gets curly if i put it up at night, and i like the birthmarks on my cheek and arm. non physically i like how outgoing i am! i love that i like to learn, and i’m proud of myself that i try my hardest not to give up! 

12. how are you? 

i’m good !! i had a good first day at my new job, and i’m also excited to get my COVID vaccine next week! (i work with senior citizens so all employees are eligible for the vaccine!) i’m also kinda sleepy because it was my first full work shift in a while. 

29. morning, afternoon or night?

i have to wake up early now, but one of my favorite times of day is midmorning...when it’s 10-11 and i’ve already gotten things done and feel like the day is going in a good direction!!!

Currently reading: The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks, which is the first book I'm reading in over a year. maybe even two. technically I'm still reading Pride and Prejudice, but I haven't touched it in the aforementioned 1+ year. if we count fanfic too, currently I'm close to finishing maybe one day by sydne on ao3, which is a Nancy Drew fanfic focusing on Ryan and his relationship with Nancy and I absolutely love it.

Last Song: Wrong Direction by Hailee Steinfeld

Last series: I'm bingewatching The Librarians currently, and I'm also trying to watch NCIS: Los Angeles, but there are some technical difficulties. the last series I watched an episode for was.... probably The Cleaning Lady earlier this week? not counting the episode of H50 mom watched yesterday while I was sitting there (it was one of the Halloween episodes which I always hate)

Favourite Colour: Officially it’s purple. I do like a good purple. Lately however I have been veering towards dark green (I have dark green boots and I have an urge to colour coordinate).

Currently Reading: The Ocean At The End Of The Lane by Neil Gaiman! I got it out of the library when I realised it was a Neil Gaiman book I had not yet read. It’s not yet grabbing me but I’m only a few short chapters in, so I will give it more time.

Last Song: As I’m writing this I am listening to one of my all time favourite songs, The Last Of The Real Ones by Fall Out Boy. :)

Last TV Series: I finished Stargirl season 2 recently! (Last week? Last week.)

1, 2, 23, and 51?

1. How has DC/Marvel/publishing company wronged you, specifically?

Getting me attached to their characters written in the 60s thru early 80s and then never doing anything with those comic eras ever again :( also by making everyone have straight hair and be nice to each other.

2. What character death for the sake of drama was the worst?

Everything that happened in Avengers: Dissassembled it was literally just bc Bendis thought that would shock people and I'm over it. It did shock me Brian. Over how shockingly poor the script was.

3. If you could erase one comic book from canon, what would it be?

SO MANY............ House of M and Byrne's Avengers West Coast are on the top of my list I think though. Did SO much damage she's never recovered from bc X-Fans don't know what they're talking about.... but also like. most of Ultimates tbh and Tom King's Vision. There's just too many to count

51. Who’s the most misunderstood character?

HENRY HANK PYM. Like okay I get why people don't like him and I respect that! It's a lot to get past and some people just can't. But like it or not moments like that are conventions of the genre especially back then! Ben Grimm hit Reed across the floor. Logan hit Jean. Daredevil hit Black Widow. Maddy Pryor hit Cyclops. Peter Parker hit MJ WHILE SHE WAS PREGANT. BATMAN HAS HIT HIS KIDS SO MANY FUCKING TIMES!!! It's NOT unique to Hank Pym's comic book history and I despise that he more than any of these characters gets remembered for it the most. He can not move past it in the eyes of writers and fans and beyond him being one of the few canonically neurodivergent comic characters who's consistently been shown that way since that arc I can't see why. It does genuinely feel targeted bc the only other character that gets similar treatment is Reed from CBR and we all know about his ND-ness. It just is so frustrating that despite so many efforts of Mark Waid, George Perez, Kurt Busiek, Sam Humphries, hell even Dan Slott to try and give a bit more sympathy and understanding with his obvious mental health issues despite the ways it was portrayed and to try and have him move on past it that Roy Thomas still gets the last say in fandom's mind. Roy Thomas doesn't even want the last say! It's so frustrating.

one-rogue-army replied to your text post: I remembered that was the excuse for Barry to vote for the League's mindwiping Dr. Light. Didn't know Johns had retconned in all that other... gunk, on Roscoe. (Admittedly I've read more plot summaries and fanfics than the actual comics *because* The comics kept getting more grimdark.)

Iris' death was certainly a factor in Barry becoming more pessimistic and gloomy, but he broke down and had Roscoe brainwashed because he just didn't know what else to do with him.  And with all those retcons added in, it's tough to blame him because he had a body-hopping ghost who knew exactly who he and his loved ones were and wanted to hurt all of them.  My complaint in all of this is that Johns stuck in all these unnecessary retcons and clearly decided to make Roscoe the designated bad guy, presumably because he doesn't like him.

(As an aside, when I got Scott Kolins to draw Roscoe at a convention, he tweeted the piece at Johns with "???"  I dunno if he or they found it weird that someone would like Roscoe or what, but that's how it felt to me.)

I certainly hear you on the grimdarkness, as DC in particular has gone through phases when it absolutely gets excessive.  All too many people in the industry seem to think that comics must be dark and depressing to be respectable literature.
