it’s super basic. cetaphil daily cleaner, acne astringent (with salicylic acid. this is a must for me. a MUST. i use the clean and clear rn but i prefer the neutrogena one) and witch hazel toner (without alcohol. i use the dickinsons rose water rn)

i use the aveeno positively radiant daily moisturizer that has spf. SPF IS ONCE AGAIN CRUCIAL.

more than anything though keep it simple. i have big pores but i rarely have like red acne.

most important thing is SPF to protect your skin. i think that and having a good moisturizer, basic toner, and cleanser and you’re solid. getting into serums can be tricky and also pricey so it is out of my hands lol. oh and for me drinking enough water makes a huge difference

other than the aveeno i like the kiehls face cream but it is soooo pricey lmfao

Just for the hell of it, I decided to draw some speculative Thal’nasian animals. Even though we’ve never seen any, I know Thal’nasia likely HAS animals because the Brinks family… well, exists. I also know that they probably have some regular animals like chickens and pigs and stuff, but I thought it would be fun to think about what other sorts of fantasy livestock they��d have lying around. Most of these were written with the pre-reboot continuity in mind, but they’d probably fit into the reboot too, I’d think.

Mage Hounds

Mage hounds, despite their highly varied appearance, are actually just one breed of dog. Over the years, they’ve been manipulated to have a high affinity to magic. Originally born as grey ‘blank slates’, continued magic use around them by their owners causes them to take on the same elemental or magical affinities as their owners. As a result, their malleable forms change shape and gain new abilities over time, allowing them to better assist their owners in day to day life. However, even if two mage hounds have the same element, the way that element manifests can be very different between animals. The examples shown here are just a small fraction of the dazzling array of appearances these animals can take.

Descriptions of each mage hound depicted under the cut!

Puppy- All mage hounds resemble this at birth. As they grow, they take on more of their owner’s magic, and reach their final form at about a year of age, and generally live for about 15-20 years; longer than regular dogs, but still a fraction of a human lifespan. If raised in a non magical environment (such as by a human instead of an elf), they do not change in appearance, and instead grow up to look roughly like a weimaraner. If an adult mage hound is immersed in a very different type of magic (such as being abandoned and adopted by a person with a different element), their forms will only very slightly change. For the most part, once they finish puberty, their appearance and powers are set. Adult mage hounds that have never been exposed to magic will not change form either. Mage hounds also have no resistance to plague bile, and will become infected and die like any other animal upon exposure.

Light 1- This mage hound was owned by a small child in an antique shop, and was influenced by motes of light reflecting off of dust in the air. It is small, soft, and affectionate, and always glows slightly, even in complete darkness. This allows it to act as a nightlight of sorts for its companion.

Light 2- Owned by a maintenance worker. Fur is extremely reflective, causing the hound to appear white, when really it just reflects any and all light on it. This results in the mage hound’s high-contrast appearance, and it is quite painful to look at in direct sunlight. However, it can refract and direct some of this light through the prism in it’s forehead, allowing it to act as a flashlight in the dark. As it’s owner mostly works at night, this comes very much in handy.

Shadow- Unlike the previous light magehound, this dog absorbs all light with the exception of it’s eyes, making it nigh impossible to see at night. Fur between its toes and very short claws gives it silent footsteps. It’s very wiggly as well, letting it sneak around with ease and get into all the kitchen cabinets, scaring the shit out of people who are just trying to get a midnight snack.

Earth 1- Large, relatively aggressive magehound used in guard work. Every time it barks, the ground vibrates in a ten foot radius, knocking over those who aren’t expecting it. The ridges on its back are bone, covered over time by a layer of sandstone, which magically adhesed to the surface after the hound rolls in dirt. This dog could really, really do with a bath.

Earth 2- Has a nose for valuable, high quality gemstones. Its short, lithe body with it’s large claws and armored surface makes it perfect for digging and navigating tunnels, and its magic abilities allow it to tunnel through even solid rock. Despite its affinity for fancy gems however, this individual was being utilized in the clearing of leystone deposits.

Air 1- A companion animal. Capable of floating through the air, albeit slowly and gently. However, even the strongest winds cannot push it from its path. This allows it to plot a slow but steady course to pretty much anywhere, including the jar of treats hidden above the shelf. Has very soft, light fur that always drifts around like it’s underwater.

Air 2- Despite its tiny appearance, can amplify vibrations in air waves to make itself very, very loud. It can also hear even the tiniest sounds, and is very intelligent for a dog. Acts as a service animal to a frail, near-deaf woman. This mage hound has been trained to listen to her heart murmur and make a specific cry when something is wrong at a volume that even she can hear. The rest of the time it makes regular, if amplified, yapping noises, much to the despair of her neighbors.

Water 1- Its fur is smooth and oily, like a seal or otter. Its ears are also thick and sturdy, acting as a dorsal fin for this amphibious mage hound. Any fur it sheds has an inherent resistance to water, and its owner runs a small business by weaving it into magically waterproof coats. They work just as well as any rain jacket and are very warm, provided you can stand the smell of oily dog.

Water 2- Constantly wet. The puffy fur on its head and tail is made of sea foam and constantly drips onto its surroundings. Its feet, on the other hand, attract and collect water, causing it to leave dry pawprints on wet concrete after a rainstorm. Very affectionate, but gives the wettest ‘kisses’ imaginable.

Fire 1- This mage hound is very warm to the touch, making it very pleasant as a lap dog. However, its fur gets very staticky very easily, which makes petting it feel like sparks are constantly pinging against your hands. Must be brushed frequently or else these sparks will shoot out into the air when the animal moves, potentially starting a fire. This mage hound cannot be set on fire, but once the fur is brushed off of it, it makes excellent kindling.

Fire 2- Has a very high internal body temperature, and glows from within. Is a playful dog, but when separated from its caretakers, has very high anxiety. The longer it’s upset, the shorter it’s fuse-like tail becomes (this process is painless to the animal). When this mage hound runs out of tail, it reaches a final, temper tantrum state, and it’s whole body begins to glow before it releases a massive fireball into the area around it, with its body at the epicenter. However, seeing as this state is caused by there being no people around, this rarely harms anyone. It does cause a significant amount of property damage though. Has been nicknamed “Bomberanian” by its owners.

Ice- Despite its huge poofs of fur, it is always cool on a summer day, making it incredibly pleasant to pet. Has large icicles growing and sublimating from it’s hindquarters at a constant rate instead of a tail. Due to it’s cold internal temperatures, you can see it’s breath in when it’s warm out, but not when it’s cold. Its whole body is freeze-proof, and it cannot slip on ice. As a result, it’s owner volunteers it at ice skating rinks during the winter and uses it to help children learn how to skate, letting them hold on to its shaggy fur as it guides them across the ice.

Royal- One of the few mage hounds that is relatively consistent in its adult appearance. Royal mage hounds are exclusively owned by the Thal’nasian royal family, and have made appearances in their family portraits for hundreds of years. Their magical affinity is to the portals and teleportation magic that the royal family utilizes. They are the only mage hounds that can teleport, and are trained from birth to be able to link up to Thal’nasia’s portal system. When preparing to teleport, a familiar sphere of blue appears in their looped tail and their markings glow. Then, the mage hound and any chosen companions will vanish in a flash of blue light before coming back out of the nearest fixed portal. They have incredible tracking abilities, and are frequently sent out to ‘fetch’ any unruly children and return them home.

Necromancy- Mage hounds with affinity to necromancy are also referred to as ‘black shucks’. Like royal magehounds, they have a rather consistent appearance. All black shucks have pure black fur and glowing purple eyes and are absolutely huge for a dog. However, they vary greatly in fur length, body shape, etc. They also have a tendency to have low body fat and have unusual bone protrusions, making them gaunt in appearance. However, this is all hearsay- no Thal’nasian has seen a black shuck since the days of the Wight War hundreds of years ago. The stories that remain however, are terrifying. Back in the day, they were loyal companions of liches. Similar to the stories of how Saint Bernards carry small barrels of ale to those lost in the snow, black shucks would frequently have their masters’ phylacteries fixed to their collars. Should their master fall in battle, they would quickly flee the scene with their soul, defending it with their lives. This would allow the lich raise themself later and fight again another day, all thanks to the help of a companion that would never betray them. Should the hound be confronted before they could reach safety, black shucks are incredible fighters. Their massive size, sharp teeth and huge claws make them a terrifying force to contend with, and the magic flowing through their body makes them incredibly difficult to kill, allowing them to overcome massive amount of blood loss, body damage, and missing limbs.

Life- These adorable little dogs have a close affinity to plants and soil. Like any other dogs they have a tendency to dig, but instead of destroying plants, they have a tendency to till bare soil, removing large rocks, aerating the dirt, and overturning soft, nutritious loam. And, as gross as it is, one would be hard pressed to find a better fertilizer than the droppings of a life mage hound. Additionally, any seeds placed in their fur will immediately sprout and blossom, forming a miniature version of whatever plant was placed. This allows for rapid-fire testing of new types of crop, without waiting for them to grow naturally. Also, despite their tiny stature and cute appearance, these little dogs are quite fearsome towards people they don’t know, and have savaged many an ankle. Unfortunately, the original bloodline of this type was driven to extinction in the Blood Red Rebellion, and while a breeding project has been running to help restore this useful type of mage hound, it has been slow going.

Not So Plane Jane; Life Hacks for Flying

Through trial, error, and some research, I think I’ve cracked the code to better travel days and I’m here to share!

Step 1: Drink more water

Moisturize and Hydrate… we’ll share other tips but, if you haven’t gotten it by now, traveling in comfort is ALL ABOUT MOISTURIZING and HYDRATING!

It’s a common misconception that when we travel, our skin dries from a different climate, while this can be partly true, a large contributor to our dry skin actually happens during the flight. Our skin and our bodies actually become extremely dehydrated from the pressurized cabin and lack of oxygen. If you’re like me, when you don’t preemptively take care of your skin, it will dry to the point of cracking and becomes very painful.

Just when you think you’ve probably had enough, go back for more! If you think back to your travels (specifically plane rides) how much do you drink versus how much are you peeing and what color is your pee?

For me, I know I’ve done 6 hours of flying, drank a Kombucha, 2 full water bottles (the tall ones) and two coffees and have still only peed once. That is not good!

So learn from me and drink drink drink! Even if you have to ask for tons of water and pee 20 times, bug the shit out of your neighbors and the flight attendants, you need hydrated skin dammit!

Step 2: Steer clear of alcohol and coffee (if you can).

Coffee is definitely a hard one, especially when you have those 6am flights and shit to do, so honestly, I’m not judging you there. However, alcohol, should be a no no. Alcohol only dehydrates your body more - so if you do end up getting a drink or two you should drink twice as much water. Also, it’s a pretty great feeling when you arrive at your destination not fucked up… and fully hydrated.

Step 3: Get your personal beauty spa up and running

Yes, you get a personal beauty spa on your flight. The most important aspect of this spa, is your Hydrating Sheet Mask. Yes, people will look at you crazy like WTF? But guess what, who fucking cares! Your skin will be thanking you after.

Introducing your skin to as many hydrating products as you can while in the air is going to be your second most important task after drinking water. Make sure when you’re getting your sheet mask, it is one meant for hydration. Then go ahead, put that baby on and soak up all that goodness. Your average face mask tells you to keep on the mask on for 15 minuets but I leave mine on until it dries out, usually around 45 minutes.

After your face mask it’s good to put a moisturizer on. I like to use straight Jojoba oil because I find that this is the best oil for your face, whether you have oily or dry skin - I swear by Jojoba and it’s all I use.

Once the oil has soaked into my face, I like to pat a small amount of my Hyaluronic Acid on my face then spritz myself with a hydrating setting spray. I use the Jem Mist by JemDust because not only is it a setting spray with hydrating aspects, but it also is a protector and shields your skin from toxins and pollutants, not to mention I love the natural glow it gives my skin.

*Pro Tip: When you’re applying your setting spray, I recommend going to the bathroom to do so, or if you must do it in your seat, bend over so your neighbors don’t get sprayed as well.

I fell for my first infomercial a few months ago, and god am I glad I did! There’s this super cool, super cheap invention that changed my life while flying.

Do you ever download movies and TV shows on your phone but then hurt your neck starting down at it, or wear out your arm trying to hold your phone or tablet up? Do you hate having your tray down and obstructing your limited foot room just for your damn drink? Well fret no more!

I proudly introduce you to the AirHook! Before I gab about how amazing it is, I do want disclose, it’s cheap AF. Like cheaply made in China, plastic kind of cheap. However, I’m still obsessed. I will be happy when a nicer version is made, but I think it works wonders for now.

This baby hooks into your tray table so you don’t have to have it down. It holds your drink, and snaps your phone or tablet into the top so you can sit straight up to watch your phone or tablet. Meaning that you get all the leg room your tiny seat has to offer, and your neck and arms don’t get fucked trying to hold your device or cramping your neck to watch it.

Face Mask

Don’t want to get sick? Or maybe you already are and you don’t want to make it worse? Then get yourself a face mask. The air on planes is just recycled so you’re breathing in all the germs and illnesses that other people have as well. While during the summer, this isn’t that bad — during the Winter, it’s crucial, especially when those gnarly flus are going around!

Eye Mask

So as you all may know, there’s a lot of things that can go wrong on a flight, A LOT! For example, imagine you’re on a red eye, you just want to sleep, the flight is dark — but then the passenger next to you wants to read and has the light on making it hard for you to pass out. Don’t let this issue keep you up, keep your eyes covered and the light out so you can sleep! Plus, people are less likely to bother you!

Noise Canceling Headphones

HUGE necessity! There are so many different situations on a plane where headphones are needed! When there’s someone next to you who wants to talk and you’re not so into it or the worst, when there a crying child! I even use mine for when I want to sleep, playing peaceful music through them helps block out noise and keeps me oblivious to my surroundings.

Pack Your Food

Food on planes suck, let’s face it. Unless you’re flying first class and that comes with some exquisite meal, everything else is sub par. So why settle for ehh, when you can custom make or purchase whatever you want! I like to go to a grocery store with good “ready to go” items, preferably a health market as well, so that I can eat healthy and delicious food. There’s always the option of grabbing something prior to the plane ride in the terminal as well. This can just be hit or miss depending on what airport you’re in and if you have any dietary restrictions.

Yeah it can be annoying to unload a meal and take up space in the tiny rows they have, but hey! You need to eat and you need to eat healthy food! Who wants to start off a trip feeling like shit? I know for myself, and with having H. Pylori, there is nothing worse than being stuck on a flight with the best option they have being a cheese plate… Like what?! I don’t want to be bloated when I land. So be that bitch, bring your food, and guess what, it doesn’t matter because you’ve got your noise canceling headphones anyways, right?
