I talked to my mam about this in recent years, saying "yeah, kids are on videogames too much, tiktok, etc etc" and she said "well, didn't you used to do similar?"

Now, I know what she means by this. Unfortunately, for me at least, I had a shit time in school and basically everywhere else. I needed them so that I had my own place to do what I wanted, so I did minecraft, COD, assassin's creed, because they let me do what I wanted without having to wonder what others would think most the time.

Fast forward to now, with other people and other games. Games now, as oppose to the ones I played, will make you pay £5 for a new chracter to play with and the character just shows off to other players that you used real money, games will just be missing most of the content they advertise themselves having because of a battle pass which you require to access half the features, half the features that the battlepass will get you are just more character models therefore nullifying the character models you already have if you like this one more whilst also making those character models one of the primary features of the game. To clarify, that means that when these character models are the primary feature of your game, the mechanic by which you get them is spending real world money, it also doesn't help when people use those skins as a means of showing off their skill in the game.

In regards to social media, I never had them when I was under 13. And what was there, looking at my friends', was just a bunch of people saying "hey guys, look where I went!" And there was something nice about that. Now, although having a sinister underbelly before, it's been replaced by corporate greed, disguising itself as people. They'll say "guys, holy shit, guys - a bad thing happened, and I won't explain until the video is over."

On top of that though, the apps/websites themselves are built in such a way to keep you scrolling, keeping you engaged making you've not a moment to be bored. And the same applies to kids. Because a lot of young children wither have social media or use their parents' accounts, think YT kids, they're in the same position. And it doesn't help that we constantly get notifications about what's happening whilst we don't use the apps.

As, also purely anecdotal, evidence, I have a cousin. Now, to make it clear, he's autistic. His special interest is not lazy indir horror games, but the bootlegs of them, think names like Scary Nun and Escape Grandpa. And he talks about these with my Grandma all the time, she doesn't understand him at all, that part is ok. The issue is that it's all he talks about, and he doesn't start the conversation, someone else has to prompt him into speaking. So even when he's not playing them or watching someone play them he's only talking about them. You'll say, "hey, last video, we've gotta do something soon" and he'll say ok and then move onto the next one, because they're built in such a way that you're either moved onto the next one automatically or the shiny pictures will act like Macbeth's wife, taunting him to press another. And then he does.

Maybe its a case of learning restraint, learning to go outside, learning to do anything else. But how are they meant to learn that sort of thing when everywhere they go is just people doing the exact same shit, always reminding them of the thing they like doing?

not to be all “think of the children” but the fact that companies can openly admit to using methods to intentionally form addictions in children and we’re not killing their ceos in the streets yet is astounding

i was hoping to make a post like this under happier circumstances, but here goes.

as some of you know, everything with the cancellation and renewal campaign has happened right on top of the worst part of my mom's cancer treatment (plus the show was cancelled on my actual birthday 💀). i won't go into details, but it's been tough. lots of ups and downs, mostly downs, luckily ending (for now) on as much of an up as circumstances allow. the whole thing has been weirdly tied to the cancellation for me, kind of amplifying every feeling. the grief got mixed up, and there was so much of it - mourning the loss of the kind of future i thought i'd have with my mother and the time we might not get, mourning the end of a show that means so much to me and is such a big part of my life. different types of grief, sure, and of different magnitudes, but in one big ugly swirl. i sort of had a breakdown right at the start of february, and it was because of news about my mom, but it morphed into my brain telling me everything i'd ever written was shit and wanting to delete it all. stuff like that, spilling over.

anyway. i was holding off on writing this post to see if the show got picked up by someone else. but i still want to say it. because what also spilled over was the support and community from this fandom, and being in this space (despite the rough times and high emotions) helped me through it, because of all of you here. whether we talk regularly, or you left a comforting reply or simply a like on one of my posts about having a hard time (i tried to keep them few), or wrote a nice comment on a fic, or said something funny or nice or insightful in the tags of a gifset, or was active here (or on twt) in any way, talking/sharing/creating stuff about the show - THANK YOU.

you all helped me through all the ups and downs, and i am so grateful. thank you for being here, listening, distracting, helping me feel some joy despite the horrors. i love you and i love this incredible show and all it has brought and will continue to bring and inspire, and although it should go without saying, i'm not going anywhere. just do me a favor and give yourself a big ol' hug from me, and know that you made a difference for some random guy on the internet (but in reality for many more, and for this fandom as a whole, just by being here and being you) 💕

I participated in an MMV exchange! You can find the wonderful Detective Conan MMV gifted to me by Violet Skies here, and my giftee was tayuyashoujo, so I decided to combine Poets of the Fall with Witch Hat Atelier!

My ideas were much greater than I was able to accomplish in the timeframe, but for my first full-blown DaVinci Resolve MMV, I'm very pleased with what I learned. Stay tuned for the full version—I definitely plan on finishing it!

Disney's first three Princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora) are all graceful, sweet, like singing songs about dreams and wishes, and do not actively fight: "omg they're such anti-feminist caricatures!!!"

Disney's next princesses have more established emotions and personalities, alongside the establishment of the "I Want" song as applied to motives outside of love (exploration, adventure, making their family proud): "OMG Ariel traded her voice for a man, how stupid!" "Belle's so stuck-up!" "Jasmine's just a spoiled brat!"

Tiana's a dedicated hard worker, loves her family a lot, and wants her loved ones to be very happy even at her own expense and gets... totally ignored in this conversation, gee I wonder why

Rapunzel, Anna, and now Asha are a little bit awkward, silly, but exuberant and get written off as "stupid adorkable" despite the other tenets of their personalities setting them apart, like Rapunzel's creativity, Anna's dedication to her family, and how Asha strives to help those around her

Moana gets called a disobedient brat for seeing beyond her father's narrow-mindedness

Disney Princesses have many wonderfully different personalities. It's just that people are dedicated to misinterpreting them, and that's why I never take the "Disney Princesses need more diverse personalities!" comment at face value.

the difference between zosopp and sanuso (romantic OR platonic) is that Usopp is Zoro's specialest little guy and Zoro is someone Usopp hangs out with and looks up to and hides behind when things get scary, but Sanji and Usopp are best friends. They horse around, they beat each other up, they confide their worst fears trying to one up each other. Usopp hides behind Sanji sometimes, sure, but idk, Sanji's weaknesses are more obvious (bugs, fighting women, etc) so there are times when Usopp has to stand in front of Sanji too, yknow?

Like, how do I say this, all the crewmates are equal- Usopp and Zoro are equals- but with Sanji it feels like more... comradery? Zoro's a rock in a terrible storm- even rocks tend to get weathered and chipped and worn down, but they overall stay strong and steady. He has trouble being vulnerable and there are times when the burden he's placed on himself to keep the crew safe is crushing his chest. Usopp would help with that and be very understanding, but the point I'm trying to get with that is that those moments are few and far between. So I feel like Usopp, especially after Water 7, would take Zoro's lead on something like that, and keep most of his worries to himself or only talk about them sparingly unless they're really bad and/or he can't hide them.

Sanji is like a tree in a storm; he can be strong, yes, but it feels like he bends and sways with the storm, and has more obvious breaking points. He can relate more to Usopp's struggles rather than resorting to blunt honesty that might border on callous like Zoro. And while, with Zosopp, I tend to think of scenarios with Zoro being blunt like that as a good thing- because sometimes when you're spiraling, it's nice to have someone say exactly what's great about you and shoot down all your worries with straight facts that you can't argue with- I can also see this as being a bad thing. Anxiety can really twist up your brain sometimes, you know? And despite the words, the tone could still mess someone up if they're already feeling like a burden on others in some way.

With Sanuso it's a lot more understanding and thoughtful words. It's distractions and comfort food and patience- the kind reserved for Usopp- until Usopp talks about whatever's troubling him. Compared to Zosopp, it doesn't take as long for Usopp to open up, since he's done the same thing to Sanji at times and it's more familiar to him to talk and commiserate with Sanji about his worries and doubts and such. However, there are times stuff like this has absolutely no effect and Sanji will end up at a loss, no idea what to do or how to help over the course of several days with Usopp being quiet and keeping his distance, and he'll end up working himself up about it which will only serve to make Usopp feel worse and. yeah. bit of a vicious cycle with them.

So it's like. Usopp can be weak with both of them, but since I see Sanji as the type of guy who'd be more open with his worries (at least compared to Zoro), there's less of a need to 'perform' and be his best self around him. He's comfortable around Zoro, yes, but he is constantly wanting to show that he won't be a problem to him. On the other hand, while he's more open with Sanji, and Sanji with him, they tend to relate a bit too much with each other and they both have issues with causing trouble for others and being 'deserving of love' so failed attempts at consoling one hurts the other and creates an unpleasant cycle of misery and avoidance before some other crewmate (Zoro) tells them to quit being stupid and just fucking talk to each other.
