I had been stuck in the Dark World for who knows how long. The days didn’t seem to matter down here. No sun, no moon, just the vibrant green grid that coated the sky that would twitch and surge with occasional frequency.  When I first got here, I fought hard to get back to the surface, to fight for any sense of normalcy, for home but after a while the dream began to fade. The options began to run dry when compared to the dangers that surrounded me. And so I settled. I survived. I searched for food, begged for shelter from kind Darkners. I did what I had to to live. The Queen was not an option. Whispers from Darkners told me how I was just what she was looking for, that would help her expand her reign to the Light World. As much as that would probably help me, I didn’t want to ruin the lives of others for the chance to see my family, as much as I missed them with every passing minute. The sound of bustling cars and the blinding lights of neon signs stung my senses, my palms pressing into my eyes to drown out what I could. Damn it this place never slept did it? There was always something, some sort of noise. Whatever bags I had under my eyes were probably made cartoonishly drastic with the lack of pure rest I was getting. ‘Supose it was better then being dead... My body felt heavy, and I knew I’d have to find a place to rest or I’d fall asleep mid crossing of a road and get run over by one of those goofy cars I’d seen. Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad... I recalled the time one of the car’s rear bumped into a fire hydrant (or at least I thought it was) and made a squeaking sound. The darkness of a certain alley called to me, the silence a sweet lullaby to the roaring around me. Was it dangerous? Oh yeah. Was it stupid? No shit. Was I going to do it? The shadows the engulfed me were perfect and if it wasn’t for the underlying stench of garbage it’d probably be ideal. Still beggars couldn’t be choosers and if tonight was good enough I would have to consider having this as my permanent sleeping spot. My back slid against the cool wall across from the dumpster, eyes half lidded as they read the advertisements littering above. Why the hell did the Queen have ads anyway, if she wanted she could monopolize any products she wanted... Despite the quiet I couldn’t shake the feeling that creeped down my spine. The presence of something other then myself around me. I tried to close my eyes, I was in the city after all. It’d be concerning if I didn’t feel like people were one second from crawling up my ass. Though I had to admit I didn’t expect to actually feel something begin to touch me. My eyes snapped open, elbow prodding into a blurry shape that yelped and tumbled backward, it’s grasp my on shoulder tearing a hole in my already worn shirt in the struggle. “Hey! What the hell?!” I barked, standing over the perpetrator. My shoulders slumped when I saw what looked to be a doll staring up at me with wide eyes, an over exaggerated smile permanently spread across it’s face. The creature’s jaw opened wider with a clack, it’s small body shooting upwards to stand on it’s small pointed feet. “WOAH WOAH WOAHAH- [Live worms]!”   The darkner’s voice was deafeningly loud, a shrill tone that cut the air like newly sharpened blades. “ I THOUGHT YOU WERE [Roadkill]. NICE TO KNOW I WON’T BE [Sleeping with the fishes] T0NIGHT!!” Well he had a certain way of speaking that was obvious. What the hell was going on with him, he talked like he was constantly being cut of random clips of other people speaking. He talked like a youtube poop or any other shitpost that would randomly shove memes into them for a quick laugh. “You thought I was dead? I was just... I was... uh.” I looked around me, eyeing the dirt and debris. “I was... going to sleep... here.”  Dammit, telling people I had to sleep in such ratty places were always a blow to the ego but I suppose it was better then saying ‘Oh I was just sitting down here to die’ The puppet shook his head and waltzed over to the dumpster, his small hand smacking the side with a sense of pride. “ [Finders keepers, losers weepers] HUMAN, YOU PICKED A GOOD SPOT. TOO BAD [so sadd] I GOT HERE FIRST. THOUGH FOR A DEAL I SUPPOSE I COULD [Share the love~]” “Got here first... what are you talking about?” The Darkner let out a laugh, distorted echoes filling the air as he leapt inside, a solitary hand popping out to beg me to come closer. This was a terrible idea, but despite my best judgement I followed, and witnessed what I could only describe to be a makeshift bed inside.  The puppet laid on top of musty mats and raggedy rugs, a single stained pillow resting just beneath his head. My god was he living in here? The creature continued his laugh, lurching only a few inches away from my face. “ [Sweet deal] ISN’T IT? J3ALOUS, [baby]?”  I shirked back, cheeks reddening at the tone of his last word. I was most defiantly not jealous, in fact I was filled with remorse, something his pride did not help with. “It’s... uh something. I guess this means I’ll have to find another alleyway um, sorry for bothering you-” “SPAMTON.” “What?” His hand shot out towards my chest, fingers wiggling for a handshake. “SP-SPA MTON G SPAMTON, [Number 1 rated salesmen 1997]” He announced, an extra flair of bravado laced his titled. His hand was surprisingly warm for what it was made of but nothing that would be described as body temperature.  “Jenna. Also 1997.” “WHAT A YEAR. LISTEN LIGHT nER, I AM DEALSMAN [yes/no?]” “Um... y-yes? I don’t-” “THEN LET ME MAKE A DEAL YEAH? FOR ONLY [many] KROMER, YOU MAY STAY IN MY [Privately owned] ALLEY. IT’S A REAL [steal] YOU’RE ROBBING ME [deaf] HERE!” My brows furrowed as I searched his face for any context clues for what the hell he was trying to say. Kromer? What the fuck was ‘kromer’? The only thing I knew of currency down here was dark dollars not kromer... even if he did ask for dark dollars he didn’t name a price, he just said many. And the amount of dark dollars I had was zero. “Uh I don’t have kromer. I don’t even have dark dollars I’m kinda broke Spamton, in case you couldn’t tell from uh...” I trailed off realizing saying that sleeping in an alley wasn’t a very smart thing to say to someone who slept in an alley.  He seemed surprised by my words, beginning to tug on my coat, flipping my pockets to see if I was really lying. I had to push his mitts off me a couple of times, to which he eventually got the idea the way his hands began to rub at his extended jaw. “NO KROMER... WHAT CAN YOU DO?” “What do you mean?” He seemed to sense my change in tone, his grin beginning to wobble nervously “[Whoopsie daisy!] LET ME START AGAIN. DO YOU HAVE A [trade]? A [skill] TO [Exchange for goods and services]?” he croaked. I eyed the ground, rubbing the back of my neck. What the hell was I good at again? “I mean, I can draw, I suppose...” “ARTIST? WOW OWOW!” Spamton’s face lit up before digging in the dumpster, pulling out a few napkins and a ball point pen and shoving them into my hands. “WHAT A [trade] TELL YOU WHAT. YOU DRAW A [one-of-a-kind masterpiece] AND YOU CAN STAY THE NIGHT!” “You’ll let me stay... if I draw something for you on this napkin. Am I getting that right?” The doll nodded feverishly, basically hovering over my shoulder as I played with the pen. This was certainly the weirdest way to pay someone that I could imagine... well no but one that was in the realm of reality. I had to ask Spamton to give me some space a few time, the feeling of his breath on  my neck making me more then nervous as I drew. God he was like those kids in school that would ask for drawings but ten times worse with the amount of personal space he’d give you. Besides I needed something to draw and with nothing on the mind why not draw the most interesting thing in front of me. I held the finished doodle out to Spamton only to have it snatched out of my fingers so fast I swore we could have started a fire. “WOAH...” The puppet sank inside of the dumpster, his face softening  as for once in what seemed like forever the alley way grew silent. “THIS IS... ME?” “Yeah. Sorry I didn’t know what to draw, you kind of put me on the spot. Besides everyone likes drawings of themselves right?” I shrugged, being pulled away from my thoughts by an overdramatic sniffle. Was he... crying? Not quite, just damn well close. Spamton’s shoulders quaked as a warm smile returned to his cheeks, slipping the napkin into his pocket with glee. “SO GOOD... THANK YOU.” “It’s really nothing, honestly that was a pretty shitty drawing.” “WHAT? YOU’RE [&#!^]ING ME! THAT WAS [BIG SHOT]” He was screaming again, hands gesturing wildly about. “It wasn’t but thank you. I wish I was better to be honest. I’m not very happy with my art, not at all.” I turned away from his gaze, unsure of why I was overcome by a choking sensation building my throat.  Why the hell was I telling this stranger this sort of stuff anyway? I mean I could hazard a guess it was the fact that this was the longest conversation I had had with anyone since I had gotten down here but with how things were it could be some magic power the doll possessed to tell him my deepest darkest secrets. “YOU DON’T THINK THIS IS [Big?]” “No.” “WHY NOT?” “I don’t know. I just... I think it doesn’t look the way I want it to. Doesn’t look good to me, and I don’t know how to fix it. Which I guess is a little funny considering how long I’ve been drawing. Just keep... drawing and drawing and never improving, least not how I’d like. It’s just garbage to me.” Spamton’s face seemed to fall, his glasses fading to a dark inky black.  “YOU FEEL? NO GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO? YOUR [passion]?”  “Yeah.” A laugh ripped from his chest, his head lolling back with each chuckle. I felt my soul began to crack, a shame flooding my body with how hard he seemed to laugh. Did he find this funny? Humorous?  I felt tears prick my eyes as I snapped my head back to glare at him, his head glitching back to stare back at me. “YOU’RE JUST LIKE ME, JENNA. A [slime] A REAL [slime]!” With a quick motion the puppet jumped to the ground, his hand resting against my arm as he spoke.  “YOU’RE A REAL [BIG SHOT] YOU KNOW THAT? STAY AS LONG AS YOUR [Greasy little heart] DESIRES!” Well... that was unexpected. He’d really let me stay here as long as I want cause I was pathetic? Or did he just feel sorry for me? What was going on? And why was he calling me a slime... or us a slime?  “Oh... uh thanks? I didn’t think I was being  much of a big shot whatever that is but I apricate it. Really.” His head clacked with every little nod, leading me to a pile of cardboard boxes and patting them with the grace of a car salesman. “BEST [Seat in the house] ALL FOR YOU. [Night night forever]!” Spamton beamed, awkwardly swaying side to side before stumbling back to the dumpster a few inches away and crawling inside of it, much like a wild animal. I couldn’t help but laugh a little. This guy was weird. Kinda creepy but also kind of funny. I honestly couldn’t pinpoint a feeling on him but at least he didn’t want to hurt me just make weird ass deals and make me ‘big’. Did that mean famous? Was this guy so into my art he wanted to be some sort of manager? I rubbed my eyes and let out a yawn, the excitement of the day finally beginning to fade. God I forgot how tired I was, that little guy made me feel like I was gonna go into fight or flight.  “Hey Spamton?” “YES?” his voice echoed from inside the metal container. “...Thank you.”

Bonten Abbey: (mis)Aventures to the Arcade
Summary:
Sanzu Haruchiyo was known for many things...pill-popping, being late, and most importantly, wrecking the flow of the weekly Wednesday board meeting. What would this week hold? None of the other members of Bonten wanted to find out when he was once again late to the meeting which only spelled one thing for them. Disaster. Word Count: 8.7k Read on AO3
It was a Wednesday, and a Wednesday meant one thing for the Bonten gang. The weekly board meeting that nearly every single member in the top brass gang seemed to dread, loathe, and despise. It was often typical for each member to discuss their part for the designated five minutes. However,  going over time would cause extreme tension in the sardine-can-sized conference room that would rival being trapped in a room with a rabid badger. In addition, there were times when other off-topic conversations occurred that in Akashi Takeomi’s quoted words were “an absolute fucking mess.” All in all, the meetings tended to go through without a hitch. However, today was not one of those days as Sanzu Haruchiyo strolled into the conference room with a shit-eating grin that rivaled no one else,  fashionably late, of course.
“Hey, Sanzu!” An annoyed Mochi shouted at the man who entered, whipping his head around at the sound of the door closing, teeth barred and fists clenched in anger.
“Yo, Mochi.” Sanzu waved, trouncing over and sliding down into the uncomfortable and hard leather seat.
“We have a set meeting time, jackass.” Kokonoi hissed.
“Like he’d  ever  listen to that Koko….” Ran laughed, shaking his head.
“Important business called me.” The pink-haired man sighed blissfully, shrugging almost sarcastically to the platinum blond accountant’s dismay.
“I doubt that highly.” Rindou breathed.
“Oh, and what would that be?” Takeomi chimed in, a brow raised as he put out his cigarette.
“I’m  so  glad you asked!”
Reaching into his pocket with excited fingers, the pink-haired mullet sporting man pulled out a folded piece of paper. One would think this was some grandiose plan, some information regarding their competition, something important. But, no, Haruchiyo Sanzu unfolded the piece of colorful paper and slammed it onto the mahogany conference table, looking up at the group of men with a smirk.
“...Please tell me it’s actually important this time.” One of them said with a sigh. It didn’t matter which one.
“Oh, trust me, it’s of the utmost importance.” Sanzu assured, holding up his right hand, “Swear on Mucho’s grave.”
“The last time you used that, we ended up deserted at some movie theater that was showing a crappy porno...so that’s out the window, and you’re about to be too if this is something-” Mochi ranted, taking a glance at the piece of paper, “Are you fucking serious?” He asked in disbelief.
“What is it this time?” Kakucho finally spoke with an exasperated sigh, standing up from his seat and walking over to take a look at the piece of paper, “An arcade?” He asked with a raised brow as he looked over to the pink-haired man.
“Yeah, they’re running a deal where if eight people come as a group, you get 50% off.” He leaned back in the chair, putting his feet onto the table with a thud, “Therefore, I think we should take advantage of it and get off our depressed asses for a change.” Sanzu concluded with a nod.
There was a click in the background as Takeomi lit another cigarette. “I’m fine without having to babysit for the day.” Takeomi stated, then taking a heavy hit off of the cigarette, exhaling upward, “Interrupting a meeting for this is rather pointless, Haruchiyo Sanzu….”
“I think it sounds like a good time. Reminds me of when we were back in Tenjiku, right Rindou?” Ran turned to his brother, who sighed and shook his head.
“Yeah, I guess there’s some nostalgia there.” The younger Haitani agreed.
“2-1.” Sanzu stated, pointing to the others in the room, “Mochi, Kakucho, Koko….” He said to each as he pointed to each of them with his index finger, pausing as he hovered over the sleeping Mikey, not daring to wake him up.
“It’s a waste of our funds, and judging from the fact we recently recovered from the great  Bonten Has To Eat Instant Noodles For Two Months issue...It’s a no from me as well.” Kokonoi explained as he slid his hands together, “I’m sadly not in the mood for instant noodles again.”
Sanzu rolled his eyes, “Stop being a drama queen, and it wasn’t  that  bad.”
It was fucking awful. What the fuck are you talking about?” Mochi argued, “Just for that, it’s a no from me too.”
“Bullshit, you’re voting based on emotions.” Sanzu cried out, swinging his feet off the table and slamming his fists onto it with a loud thud.
“What if I am?!” Mochi screamed, holding his fists up, dropping the flyer onto the floor for Kakucho to pick up.
“Oh god, here we go again…” The younger Haitani laughed, laying onto the surface in front of him as he watched the fight unfold.
“Zero days without incident at a Bonten Board Meeting….” Takeomi sighed, shaking his head in dismay.
“Did we ever have a positive count…” Kokonoi asked in confusion.
“Nope.” Ran snorted as he shook his head.
“I think it’d be interesting.” The normally quiet Kakucho spoke up, placing the flyer onto the table near the sleeping blond.
“See? I knew Kakucho was my favorite for a reason.” Sanzu pointed towards Kakucho, who blinked and pointed towards himself to ask ‘who, me?’.
“Didn’t you say Rindou was your favorite last week?” Ran questioned, an index finger on his cheek in sarcastic thought, “Oh right, it was for  ‘agreeing with you about how strawberry shortcake is better than strawberry cheesecake’  …” Pointing at Sanzu.
Rindou jabbed his brother in the stomach with an elbow, causing the taller of the two to emit a dull ‘ ow,’  “Don’t bring me into this.”
“That was an important conversation. Mochi was trying to say cheesecake was better than real cake,” Sanzu clarified, “I’m not going to rehash old beef, though.” He held up two hands as if to say he didn’t care. However, it only seemed to anger Mochi more as he drew back a fist. Kakucho began to get ready to hold the brawny man back for the umpteenth time.
However, a small yawn from the front of the table, causing every person to freeze. Mochi and Kakucho returned to their seats quickly as the blond who had once been asleep opened his dark, inky eyes.
“...All of you are unnaturally quiet,” He finally spoke, looking around at each of the men seated at the table. He then glanced down at the sheet of paper that was settled in front of him, “What’s this?”
Sanzu gulped. This was officially a make-or-break moment for his plan, “Ah, Mikey...it’s for an arcade that’s running a deal….” He trailed off nervously.
The blond’s obsidian eyes glanced over the information listed on the paper before pausing at the section relating to food and looking back up at the group of men, “We’re going.”
Sanzu smirked and looked directly at Takeomi, who looked as though he wanted to crawl into a ditch and die, “Sanzu - 1 Takeomi - 0.” He jousted.
“If we were keeping track history-wise, you’d be so far in the red you’d be begging for someone to come save you,” Takeomi shot back, shrugging his shoulders and standing from his seat. He walked towards the door of the conference room, turning his head to Sanzu, “but you do that enough already, huh?” Finishing with a dry laugh as he exited the conference room.
“What the fuck? I’m not Koko.”
“I’m right here…?” Kokonoi shook his head in disbelief, standing from his seat at the table with a huff and kicking the chair back into place, “If I have to eat instant noodles for two months again, I will  never  forgive any of you assholes….” Pointing a finger around the room, stopping before Mikey, turning on his designer heels, and walking out of the room. You could hear the faint echo of his heels trailing down the concrete hallway.
“And then there were….” Sanzu counted himself and the heads in the room, holding up one hand to count only to realize he didn’t have enough fingers, “Anyways, when are we going?”
“The flyer said the deal is only good until Sunday; therefore, we need to go before then.” Kakucho informed the group, “Since it’s Wednesday, and we each have jobs to do until early Saturday morning...I’d suggest Saturday afternoon.”
“Overall, that sounds like it would work with our current plans, Kakucho.” Mikey agreed, his obsidian gaze staring holes into the heterochromatic man’s soul.
Kakucho nodded his head, “I’ll be taking my leave now. I have some things I need to tie up.” Then, standing up from his chair, pushing the chair in, and silently walking out the door to the conference room.
“We’ll get going as well, then.” Ran suddenly spoke as he stood up lazily, a scuffling noise coming from the chair.
“You act as though we’re going to the same place….” The younger Haitani breathed, shaking his head and rolling his lavender eyes at his brother’s statement.
“I thought you said we’re going out for lunch?” Ran pouted, hands on his hips.
“I said I was going to get lunch, and you invited yourself again.”
“I don’t see what the problem is with that?”
“Everything, everything is the problem with that.” Rindou turned to his brother as he finally stood from his place at the table with a huff.
“Can I come wi-” Mochi started to ask, only to be interrupted.
“NO!” Both Ran and Rindou yelled simultaneously to Mochi.
“Tough crowd…” Sanzu snorted to Mochi.
“Listen-” Mochi started, cracking his knuckles, only to be shot a look by Mikey.
“I’d be careful Sanzu, Kakucho already left, and that makes the chances of your face getting smashed in about 8-2.” Ran pointed with some underlying amusement, almost hoping that there would be another fight.
“Wow! Is everyone Koko today?!” He asked incredulously, putting his head in his palm and looking at the older Haitani, “If I didn’t know better...you did our taxes, Ran!”
“...But, I do help with those?” He questioned in a confused tone, blinking.
“Leave him. He’s hopeless.” Rindou sighed, “Mochi, come with us to lunch before you get put on punishment duty by Mikey.”
“I wasn’t gonna do shit.” Mochi huffed, glaring at the pink-haired man, “What are you lookin’ at?”
“Nothing, nothing...it’s just-” Sanzu paused, leaning forward in his seat to get a closer look at Mochi.
“It’s just what?” Mochi spat.
“Your beard...you shaved it crooked this morning, and it’s the funniest fucking shit I’ve  ever  seen.”
Yes, it was at this moment that Mikey indeed questioned if he formed the deadliest gang in all of Tokyo...or if he formed the most immature band of toddlers in all the land of Japan.
---x---
“So, who's driving?” Sanzu asked lazily on that faithful Saturday afternoon.
“The last time Rindou drove, he floored it past an old lady because she was driving the speed limit and nearly crashed us into a gasoline tanker, so...I vote not Rind-OW what was that for?!” Kokonoi yelped, getting elbowed in the side by Rindou.
“She was going eight under the speed limit, number one, and number two. I drive fine compared to somebody!” The long-haired man glaring over to Mochi.
“Eat shit.” Mochi replied, flipping Rindou the bird, “Let Kakucho drive; he’s safe.”
Sanzu groaned loudly, “But Kakucho drives like a grandma.”
“And how is that a bad thing?” Kakucho sighed, shaking his head.
“We’re gonna get there at sundown if you drive.” Sanzu pointed out.
“Oh, true.” Ran chimed in with a thoughtful nod.
“I don’t drive  that  slow.”
“Yes, you do,” Sanzu breathed, “Next.” Kakucho held out his hand, only to put it down in defeat.
“Alright, since Sanzu is an absolute fuckwit about this, I’ll drive. One catch, though,” Takeomi spoke up as he threw his cigarette onto the pavement, crushing it under his shoe.
“Ooooh, Takeomi enters the chat.” Sanzu mooned.
“Shut up,” He shook his head, “I get full control of the radio.”
Everyone went silent, staring at one another in horror.
“Sanzu, let someone else drive,” Kokonoi spoke up finally.
“Yeah, please, let someone else drive.” Rindou shook.
“I don’t want to deal with this for 45 minutes.” Mochi looked over at Takeomi, lighting another cigarette, who had a sinister look in his eyes.
Mikey finally strolled down into the parking garage, noticing no one was in the bus, “Who’s driving.”
“Takeomi is,” Sanzu replied, a collective sigh from the group as Takeomi chuckled to himself.
As everyone began boarding the bus, Mikey clung behind with Kakucho, only to ask a singular question, “Does this mean he has control of the radio again?”
“We’re sadly going to be listening to Russian death metal for 45 minutes….”
Mikey stared ahead before reaching into his pocket and fishing out two pairs of earplugs and handing Kakucho a couple, “Tell no one.”
The dark-haired man blinked as the other walked onto the bus, Sanzu slamming on the horn while screaming at Kakucho to “get his ass on the bus,” much to Takeomi’s annoyance as he tried to shove the pink-haired idiot away. Inwardly, he wondered about the kindness as he embarked on the self-proclaimed Bonten prison bus, holding the earplugs in his fist.
The route navigation guidance will start…
“Yeah, yeah, shut the fuck up.” Mochi chided the navigation system.
“Don’t insult her. You’d get lost getting out of a paper bag.” Rindou snorted.
Takeomi turned his head around and glared, “I hear any more arguing, and all of you will wake up in a walk-in freezer.” He said with a sweet smile, putting the bus into gear and starting to drive out of their base.
“You’ll never take me alive!” Sanzu retorted after a moment, snickering to himself as Takeomi visibly winced in anger.
“Yeah, that’s the point, dumbass,” Kokonoi replied, slapping the back of Sanzu’s head with an open palm.
“Takeomiiii Koko hit meeee-”
Takeomi gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his knuckles on that hand turning white as his other hand skillfully reached for the pack of cigarettes and a lighter that laid on the center console. He plucked a stick out with his lips, throwing the pack back down and flicking the lighter to light the cigarette. He inhaled deeply, holding the smoke in for a long while as if to contemplate his current life choices, such as why in the world he ever agreed to play babysitter to a group of overgrown idiots and be their chauffeur for the day. Finally, his eyes looked into the rear-view mirror, meeting Sanzu’s mischievous cerulean ones, “Good, you deserved it.”
“Fuck off, Takeomi.” Sanzu puffed, Takeomi only turning up the music louder in a petty act of revenge.
“Look what you made him do!” The blond man shrieked in horror, everyone else on the bus, minus Kakucho and Mikey, glaring at the pink-haired offender.
“I didn’t do anything! He turned it up himself!” Sanzu defended.
“I’m rating Takeomi 1 star on Uber,” The older of the Haitani brothers joked, “Worst music choices, worst attitude, smokes in the car-”
“You can walk if you want,” Takeomi called out, “But remember, I had to carry you home after that mission because you twisted your ankle because you decided to wear those new Gucci shoes...I think you’d be too far up shit creek to stand on your own.”
Ran blushed furiously, “You said you wouldn’t tell anyone!”
Rindou snorting and holding his sides, “Bro, that’s why you were limping that week? You said you slipped on the ice...It was your shoes?!” He wheezed.
“Oh my god, you’re absolutely hopeless, Ran….” Kokonoi facepalmed, chuckling.
“I am not. I’m reporting you to HR!” The short-haired man pouted, crossing his arms.
Sanzu snorted, “Did you mean Kakucho?” Looking over to the dark-haired man who was staring out the window, “Oh shit, he’s brooding.”
Mochi sighed, “Someone get the tissues ready.”
“Earth to Kakucho, come in to Kakucho...Return to planet earth!!” Sanzu yelled, causing Takeomi to glare at him in the rear-view mirror.
“Sanzu, that walk-in freezer has your name on it...I know a place relatively close by.” Takeomi threatened.
Turn left at the next intersection, then turn right.
“Bullshit, that’s the long way.” Takeomi hissed, throwing his cigarette out the window angrily, “Who designed this.”
“Please do not take us on another scenic route again…” Sanzu whined painfully, “It’s on the GPS for a reason. We do not need to relive the Black Dragons glory days.”
Takeomi rolled his eyes, “For your information, my glory days have nothing to do with getting us there faster.”
“Mhm...keep telling yourself that.” Sanzu replied snarkily, “Are we there yet?”
“Mikey, do you still have the duct tape in the bus?” Kokonoi perked up suddenly, clapping his hands together, “I suddenly thought of a great project for us!”
“I don’t like the sound of this project.” Sanzu objected.
“Oh, I’m sure you’ll just  love  it.” The light-haired man reassured Sanzu, brushing his hand against his arm gently, the other retreating with disgust. Kokonoi snorted with laughter, “What, scared?”
“No, I don’t want to catch your reverse sister complex.”
Kokonoi stared at the other with his mouth wide open, Sanzu rolling his eyes in return, “I was at the Kanto Incident, don’t act like people don’t have ears when you and what’s his face were out there screaming about it….”
“Yeah, you were screaming about it, Koko.” Mochi agreed, Sanzu blinking that the man had agreed with him.
“Oh yeah, I remember that!” Ran exclaimed.
“Survey says Tenjiku remembers it Koko.” Sanzu shrugged.
“Go to hell, and stay there.” Kokonoi huffed, blowing his bangs off his face.
Sanzu crossed his arms, smirking smugly, “You’re just mad because I won.”
“Oh god, he’s crying.” Mochi whispered, nodding his head toward Kakucho, “Sanzu, you just fucking  had  to bring up Tenjiku, didn’t you?”
“Nice going Sanzu, that’s the 3rd time this month you did it, too.” Rindou pointed out, “I don’t think we have tissues in the fucking bus anymore.”
“Why the fuck not?!” Mochi hissed, “Oh wait….” His eyes trailing over to the elder Haitani, who was looking to the side inconspicuously.
Rindou’s eyes narrowed as he looked at his brother, “Yeah, hm, perhaps because someone decided to hop in with a fresh bullet wound….”
“Listen, it was a bad night...week...month….” He attempted in defense, each increment of time making Rindou raise his brow higher and higher, “ Year?” Finally, causing the younger brother to nod in agreement.
“Wow, Ran...it’s almost as though you’re more useless than Sanzu,” Takeomi muttered sarcastically, offended gasps resonating from both Sanzu and Ran.
“At least I know how to cook without setting the fire alarms off,” Ran spoke incredulously.
“You forgot the sprinklers too.” Rindou chimed in.
“Hey,” Sanzu spoke, turning his head to them.
“Please, let us all not forget about the time he came to a meeting to discuss the fine intricacies of how orange juice makes you taste weird after you brush your teeth,” Mochi added, shaking his head in disproval.
“I’m right here!” Sanzu yelled in a huff.
You have arrived at your destination.
“Thank fucking god,” Takeomi sighed, putting the bus in park, “Someone wake Mikey up.”
---x---
Surprisingly, the arcade was located in a relatively remote part of town compared to where Bonten typically walked their regular routes. However, this did not stop several people from staring as the rag-tag crew disembarked the converted prison bus.
“Hey, hey...who are those people…”
“They look kinda scary.….”
“Alright, so game plan time.” Sanzu began as they walked towards the doors of the arcade.
“I’ll go in, so you get the deal. However, I’ll be standing outside to smoke otherwise.” Takeomi concluded.
“What?!” Sanzu shrieked in disbelief, “No, you have to participate.”
“No, I don’t.” The scar-faced man replied coldly.
“Let it go Sanzu, Takeomi can keep watch.” Kakuchou offered, “And he needs a break too. He just drove for almost an hour.”
Takeomi nodded his head in agreement, “Couldn’t have said it better.”
Sanzu clicked his tongue in annoyance, looking over to the blond for help, “Mikey….” He pleaded in a petulant manner.
“Let him rest.” Mikey stated, “He’s been pulling overnights, too.”
Takeomi smirked towards Sanzu, who only seemed to get more aggravated as he aggressively pulled open the doors to the arcade with a loud, “Fine!”
The arcade was anything you would expect, loud, smelled a bit musty, and was vibrant beyond compare. However, there was a slight scent of cheese for some strange reason. Heading towards the counter, the eight members of Bonten cashed in for several game cards that were quickly handed to none of than Hajime Kokonoi himself.
“Wait, why me?” He asked incredulously.
“Weren’t you the one who said,  oh, I don’t wanna eat instant noodles for a month ?” Sanzu mocked, shaking his head.
“Yeah, but we’re all adults here and can manage fine….” The platinum blond trailed off, looking around in a confused manner.
“Yeah, Koko, don’t be a hypocrite.”The older Haitani agreed, hands on his hips.
“Are you seriously agreeing with him?!” Koko cried in astonishment.
“Well, I think that settles it,” Sanzu said with a smirk, “You can go play like, one game or something like that.”
“Sanzu, is the word ‘nice’ in your dictionary, or did that get removed when you started your drug usage?” Kakucho asked, blinking.
Sanzu turned and looked at the other man, “I could say something right now, but it would amount to the fourth time this month.”
“Alright, let’s just get on with this shit.” Mochi finally said, shaking his head.
“Yeah, Yeah...I’m going….” Sanzu waved his hand as he walked in the other direction, likely off to find something that piqued his interest.
Ran turned to Rindou, “I wonder if they have DDR here….” He wondered aloud, his lavender eyes glancing around the area only to light up in amusement, “I see it!”
“Oh, it’s on.” Rindou smirked, “Ready for a revenge match, bro?”
“Like I’d ever miss it for the world.” Ran laughed as they both made a bee-line for the machine.
“What are you gonna, do Kakucho?” Mochi asked, turning to the jet-black-haired man.
“I’m not sure; I haven’t been to an arcade since….” He trailed off and looked to the floor.
“Get out of your head for once.” Mochi punched the other lightly in the shoulder with a grin, “Can’t stay in there forever, huh?”
Kakucho looked towards the other man and nodded, “You’re right.”
The two began walking around, attempting to find something to do in the vast array of games and activities, stopping now and then for Mochi to try something and only failing at it miserably, only to have Kakucho show Mochi how to do it properly. Eventually, both came upon a motorcycle racing game, their eyes lighting up as they used to long ago.
“Mochi?” Kakucho asked quietly, though loud enough to hear over the several kids screaming in the background.
“Yeah?” He asked.
“We’re playing this.” He declared.
“I mean, I figured when you stopped right there and were staring at it like it was some sexy chick at the strip club.” Mochi snorted, Kakucho staring at him as though he had two heads.
“Your disrespect for women is unimaginable.” He huffed as he hopped onto the motorcycle.
Mochi let out a hearty chuckle as he climbed onto the adjacent motorcycle, “Preaching respect women while in a gang that deals with prostitution,” He slid the card into the reader twice, “That’s some funny shit.”
“Oh screw, you.” Kakucho pouted as he swerved the motorcycles to select the rider, pausing over a white-haired rider and selecting them.
Mochi stared a moment, blinking at the fact Kakucho had chosen a character that looked like Izana. He shook his head and chose a random character, not exactly caring.
3...2...1...START!
“Oh fuck me, this ain’t nothin’ like the real shit.” Mochi cursed as he attempted to steer, crashing out several times with a string of curses.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about; this is pretty easy?” Kakucho replied, already in 1st place.
“How the fuck!” Mochi swore in anger, attempting to climb back into a semi-reputable position, only to realize he was in 9th place, closing in on 10th.
Kakucho tilted his body through a turn and smiled; he was having fun with this. He truly missed being able to go to the arcade with friends, with Izana. He wondered if they could do this more often...if Bonten could. He was drawn from his thoughts as Mochi swore loudly again, making him laugh, “Mochi, do you need help?”
“How the fuck are you gonna help me from there?!” The bulky man swore, now in 12th place—dead last.
“I...don’t know,” Kakucho admitted, crossing the finish line and setting a course record for the game.
“This is some ungodly level bullshit right here,” Mochi complained, trying to back himself out of an in-game ditch.
Kakucho continued watching for several minutes until Mochi finally crossed the finish line, “Well done.” He congratulated.
“Oh fuck off, enter your damn name.” The bearded man hissed in envy.
Kakucho entered his initials into the game, listed under 2nd place. He wondered who had set the 1st place record for the machine, though it was likely impossible to figure out.
His head turned when he heard a cry of frustration nearby, one that he knew...Koko?
---x---
When the group had split up earlier, Haruchiyo Sanzu had given him one rule. That was he was only allowed to play one game. Several ideas ran through his head, virtual poker, which allowed him to recoup the money they were blowing here, the weird slot machine game that looked rather promising, and then, of course, the game where you had a coin and slid it down a slot to push more coins off a ledge… All of those were lovely ideas, Kokonoi thought, that was until he landed upon a red stool in front of a screen that read Deal or No Deal. He’d heard of this reality television series before, and he knew the premise.
The blond pursed his lips as he sat down, assessing the machine. There were 16 buttons on the front labeled 1 through 16 in the shape of what looked to be briefcases. Kokonoi assumed they were to represent the motifs from the show. He sighed, figuring that, if anything, this was going to be the game for him. He slid the game card through the reader, slumping onto the stool.
Get ready to play: Deal or No Deal.
“Fuck me…” Kokonoi sighed in annoyance, watching as the said sixteen cases appeared on the screen with various ticket amounts ranging from one to five hundred. Large letters appearing stating to ‘follow the cases,’ which essentially signified you were supposed to pick the largest amount.
“Oh lovely, some RNG?” He muttered sarcastically, “It’s not like we don’t get enough of that in those gacha games kids play these days….” The cases shuffled around the screen, stopping and showing designated numbers that corresponded to the buttoned below. He thought a moment before pressing the nine button.
Choose your case...this will be your personal case.
“Yeah, I already did that-” Kokonoi hissed in annoyance, spamming one of the buttons to no avail.
You chose case number nine.
“Oh.”
Now pick five cases.
“I feel like I’m playing some fucked up lottery.” He sighed, noticing the clock and swearing under his breath as he scrambled to choose a number, “Let’s continue with the ongoing theme of my name.” He pressed the 1 button.
One.
One of the virtual women on the screen opened the case to reveal a low ticket amount, Kokonoi nodding his head in approval. He pressed the 13 button, the game echoing his choice once again to show yet another low ticket amount.
“And I thought poker was a rush.” He mused to himself, pressing the 8 button. This time, a larger amount was revealed.
“And all good things come to an end.” The light-haired man sighed as he then pressed the 15, another low.
“Back in black,” He joked, leaning back as he assessed the board for the final number, “Alright, let’s try 6.” It was a high number.
There was a ring from a telephone, causing Kokonoi to look around in confusion, only to realize it was the game, “This is such a weird game….”
That’s the bank.
“Oh good, am I getting paid?”
Here is the offer...Deal or No Deal...
A ticket amount appeared on the screen, Kokonoi’s inky eyes narrowing, “That’s it?!” He cried in frustration, hitting the NO DEAL button quickly, “I think that one gang we took out last week had a better offer for us than that.” He huffed.
Now open four cases.
“Again?” He asked incredulously, shaking his head, “Fine.” He pressed the 2 button, revealing a large amount, “Goddammit.” He thought a moment as the clock ticked down.
Hurry up.
“Oh, this game did  not  just tell me to hurry up.” The fair-haired man stated saltily, pressing the 16 button, low. He smirked, “See, can’t rush perfection.” He pushed the 10 button, low again.
“One more until the bank comes crawling back to me….” Kokonoi thought aloud to himself, hovering over the 14 button and then pressing it gently. Another low amount. The phone began ringing again in the game, music to Kokonoi’s ears, in all honesty.
There’s the bank again.
“Who else would it be?” Kokonoi mocked as he waited for the offer to appear on the screen.
Here’s the offer...Deal or No Deal…
Kokonoi thought a moment as the in-game clock ticked down. While this was a remarkably better offer than the last, he knew that there was still a significant chance he would be able to win big, and after all, it was an arcade. And not to mention, the bragging rights over Sanzu would give him mental clarity for the next month. With that thought, he pressed the NO DEAL button.
Now pick three cases.
Kokonoi sucked in a breath, his heart pumping, and he rubbed his hands together, “This is starting to feel like poker.” He pressed the 3 key. High. Swearing under his breath as he then pushed the 12 key high again. He stared up at the ceiling, his grand plan starting to fall apart as he looked down and pressed the 7 key, hoping for some luck. Low. Kokonoi sighed to himself as the phone rang, knowing the offer would look like garbage compared to the last, and laughing hysterically when it was less than half of what it originally was, quickly pressing the NO DEAL button as if he had never seen it.
Now open two cases.
“I don’t know if it’s good or bad, that the highest amount is still there, or that the offer they just made was so bad I wanted to leave here and never return..” Kokonoi chuckled to himself, questioning his life choices up until this point, pressing the 5 key. High. He then pressed the 4 key, also high.
“Wait...doesn’t that mean…” He stared and blinked, “I have either the 1 ticket or 500…”
The phone ringing again to make another offer, Kokonoi spamming the NO DEAL button as he came to the realization.
Now, let’s open your case.
As the in-game woman opened the case, Kokonoi leaned forward, only for the case to reveal...One ticket. Hajime Kokonoi had won, one ticket. He screamed, slamming his hands onto the machine before holding his head in his hands, staring at the floor in anguish. By now, Kakucho and Mochi had made their way over to him.
“Koko, what happened?” Kakucho asked, leaning down to attempt to make eye contact.
“I took a calculated risk...and for what.” The blond sobbed, his hand nearly tearing his hair out in frustration.
“Uh...Koko, it’s just a game.” Mochi laughed, amused by the entire situation.
“Do you think we can put a hit on Howie?” Kokonoi asked after a moment, looking up at the two of them.
“Who the fuck is Howie?” Mochi asked.
“Isn’t that the Deal or No Deal guy?” Kakucho asked, and then noticing where they were standing, “The answer is no, we are not killing someone for your petty revenge.”
Kokonoi huffed and crossed his arms, “Fine.” He looked around, “Where’s Ran and Rindou?”
“Oh, they’re with their fan club.” Mochi snorted, “Go see for yourself.”
---x---
“They really do have it, bro!” Rindou said with a huge grin, pointing towards the bright and colorful Dance Dance Revolution machine in front of them.
“Why wouldn’t they? They had it when we were growing up in Roppongi?”
“Okay, but who the fuck knows about a weird arcade Sanzu chose.”
“You speak only the truth…” Ran laughed, stepping onto the pad and sliding the card through the reader, “Oh nice, we get three songs?”
“Remember before we’d have to keep a cup of quarters on the floor, and we’d always spill it?” Rindou asked, tying his hair into a bun and joining his brother on the game’s vibrant pad.
“Yeah, and you’d always blame me for it even though you were always the one who did it!” Ran pouted, flipping through the songs and pausing on one, the music filtering through speakers as he turned to Rindou with a sinister smirk, “What was that about a revenge match?”
Rindou grinned, crossing his arms triumphantly, “I’ll gladly bust your ass at Kimagure Mercy any day.”
“Do you still remember how we do it?” Ran questioned as he selected it, sliding off his suit jacket and slinging it over the back of the railing.
“How couldn’t I.” The bun-sporting man rolled his lavender eyes, “Aren’t you the older one, gRANdpa?”
Ran’s eyebrow twitched, “I’m not above sibling punishment Rindou.”
“Oh, I’m shaking.”
The was applause from the game, signifying the song was about to start. The two brothers faced forwards, the intro starting and patterns beginning to fall down the screen. The two started to move in unison, swaying back and forth to the beat. It wasn’t until the first verse hit that what Ran mentioned began.
The Haitani brothers had begun to dance while playing Dance Dance Revolution.
Rindou glanced over to his brother, “Oh my god can you stop being such a show-off for once?” He huffed through a laugh, clapping hands with his brother to the beat.
“Please, it’s on my wiki article!” Ran cried out, “Just like you’re a big brute.” He bopped his head.
“I am not!” The younger retorted, squinting at the screen.
“Don’t mess up, Rindou!” Ran teased and purposefully pushed the other a bit in one of their claps.
“Fuck off!”
A crowd began to grow, mainly teenage girls enamored by these two men playing the game in such a spectacular way. All of them were excitedly watching as the two played, starting to ask each other questions such as “Does anyone know their names?” “Who are they?” “Do they have an Instagram?”... Eventually, when Rindou’s name was mentioned, people began to cheer for him. Naturally, this caused a significant issue for Ran Haitani.
“Hi ladies, I’m Ran~” He sang, causing them to squeal, a smirk plastered on his face, and an annoyed groan from Rindou echoing in response.
“In another life, I wonder if you were destined to be a host.” He sighed, accidentally missing the tile on the floor, “Shit!” he swore loudly.
“You see what you get, Rindou; respect your elders.” Ran snorted, the other man glaring at him from the corner of his eyes.
“When this song is over, you better run…” He whispered, “It’s over in 23...22...21…”
“I’m so old, my hearing…” He joked, Rindou nearly grabbing his hand during one of the claps and breaking it.
The song wrapped up, Ran turning around and waving to the group of girls and Rindou slouching forwards, primarily due to rage, though also due to an insatiable desire to beat his brother to a pulp in Dance Dance Revolution.
“Again.”
“Oh, you want more?” Ran asked with a lazy smirk as he waved to the “fans”.
“We have 2 more songs.” Rindou huffed, rolling his eyes, “It’s a waste of money.”
“True,” Ran nodded his head, “Let’s pick an easier song then!” He reached for the buttons only to have his hand slapped away by the younger, a dull ‘ow’ leaving his lips.
“No, we’re playing this song until I beat you. It’s that simple.” Rindou explained, hands on his hips.
“Fine, fine.” The older relented, “Don’t blame me if you can’t beat me.”
By the time Kakucho, Mochi, and Kokonoi made it over to the Haitani brothers. The crowd was sizeable. The arcade staff attempted to get the crowd to disperse, as it was becoming a fire hazard to the facility.
“Hey Ran, Rindou, what happened here?” Mochi asked as he finally made it to the front.
The two stepped off the machine and walked over to the group, Rindou grinning as the elder brother shook his head, “I reminded him who the rightful heir to the DDR throne is.”
“Please, you only beat me once.” Ran sighed in exasperation and exhaustion.
“And that still means I beat you.” The long-haired man spoke smugly.
“Wait, so that crowd...was all for you two playing a rhythm game?” Kokonoi questioned, “That’s insane.”
“I hope they don’t follow us home, or Mikey is going to have our heads,” Kakucho pondering the probability, “Then again, they might see Takeomi and get a bit scared.”
“Is he still out smoking?” Kokonoi pondered, tilting his head to see if he could see him, “I can’t see him.”
“I thought I saw him come in with Sanzu earlier?” Ran spoke up, the entire group staring at him.
“That can’t be right. Takeomi would never go with Sanzu…” The blond-haired man stated, slightly bewildered by the information.
“Oh, there he is.” The younger Haitani pointed, Takeomi wearing a shit-eating grin as he walked back outside, the entire group then spotting a pissed-off Sanzu.
---x---
Sanzu was officially bored. He thought that coming to the arcade would be an excellent way to spend some time away from things, though it only seemed to create more issues. What was worse was everyone else seemed to be doing their own thing, so there was no one left to mess with or bother. After an hour of wandering around and playing several games that held his attention for a few minutes or less, he set his sights on a bigger and better prize: Akashi Takeomi.
Yes, in actuality Akashi Takeomi was dangerous. He likely could kidnap Sanzu as he slept, lock him in a freezer, and then feed him to the fish...Though where was the fun in not messing with someone like that? He smirked to himself as he walked outside to see the scar-faced man unsurprisingly smoking.
“Ew, how many have you smoked today?” Sanzu spoke, holding his nose in mock disgust.
Takeomi didn’t even look at him, “Half a pack, give or take.”
“Smoking’s bad for you, y’know.”
“Drugs are too, but you don’t see me trying to give you a 12-step lecture.” Takeomi retorted dryly, Sanzu cackling in response.
“I gotta hand it to ya. That one was funny.” The pink-haired man pointing to the other.
“What exactly do you want?”
Sanzu clasped his hands together, “Dearest Takeomi, you’ve been out here for over an hour...I think it’s about time you came inside and actually enjoyed what we came here for.”
“No.” He replied with a laugh, “Nice try though, really love the theatrics...maybe we can get you a job with the prostitutes.”
Sanzu groaned, “Can you stop being a stick in the mud for once and be fun?”
Takeomi felt something inside him snap. Honestly, he just wanted to sit outside and smoke. He wanted not to have to deal with a specific pink-haired buffoon who continued to ruin his Saturdays over and over each week. Instead, however, he turned to the other man with a sickly sweet smile, throwing his cigarette onto the ground and crushing it under his shoe, “Sure, Sanzu, I’ll play one game...let’s go.”
“Really!” Sanzu’s face lit up with excitement, “Okay, let’s go!”
As they entered the arcade, Sanzu and Takeomi walked around a moment, regret beginning to wash over the older as his head began to pound from the noise and light.
“So, what do you want to play.” The pink-haired man asked, tipping his head to meet the other’s gaze.
“I don’t know, and I haven’t been to an arcade in fuck all knows.” Takeomi hissed, rubbing his temples, “Can you make it quick?”
“Jeez, I didn’t know they made you when the dinosaurs still walked the planet.” Sanzu grumbled, “Let’s go for a shooter then.” The two of them walking towards a Western-style shooting game that had plastic guns.
“Why am I not surprised.” The dark-haired man breathed, shaking his head.
“What? Sorry, I’m good at what I’m good at?” Sanzu mocked, shrugging his shoulders, “Anyways, it’s pretty self-explanatory...aim, pull the trigger, boom.”
Takeomi smirked. What Sanzu didn’t know was, he knew how to play this game. He knew far too well how to play this game because, during his days as a Brahma captain, Senju and himself would often sit in arcades and play. Sanzu Haruchiyo had sentenced himself to an early grave with this one, no matter how good a shot he was.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” The pink-haired man nodding his head towards the machine.
“I’m broke; you pay for it.”
“How the fuck are you broke if you- Nevermind.” Sanzu started, shaking his head and sliding his game card through the reader, “Let’s settle this.”
The older stepped up to the gallery, picking up the model gun and testing the weight in his hands before settling on a position.
Ready...Start!
Enemies started popping onto the screen, Sanzu quickly shooting the targets that were his color. He thought to himself it would be easy to best the older man until he realized he was keeping pace, and his score was already twice his based on the accuracy bonus.
“Hey, hey, hey…” Sanzu started, beginning to get ruffled by the sudden turn of events.
“What is it Sanzu, maybe you should aim a bit better, or is that too difficult?” Takeomi replied cooly as he blasted the head off of a zombie, “Oh, that was a good one.”
“Are you  shitting  me?” He cried out in response, “You actually know how to play this?” Sanzu was aiming for one of the enemy bonuses. However, he missed miserably. He swore under his breath, much to Takeomi’s delight.
“It’s been a good oh, what did you call it...era.” He mused as they made it to the boss level, “But for someone as young as you, this must be easy, right?” His voice dripping with poison.
“There’s still the boss level. I can-” He looked at the scores, feeling the color drain out of his face.
“What was that, Sanzu? My old deaf ears can’t hear you over the sound of your absolute thrashing.” He chuckled, “But don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll recover in time to hear you cry.”
“Do we just need to get you a nicotine drip? I don’t think the patch is gonna cut it with you.” Sanzu groaned, “Or, do you want one of my pills? Those might take your edge off too.”
“Take the joke, Sanzu,” He sighed, the game finishing out and Takeomi writing his initials in the records list, “Have a good time trying to beat that, though.” The older smirking, patting the other on the back as he walked towards the entrance, shit-eating grin plastered across his face as he pulled out another cigarette from his ever-dwindling pack.
Sanzu stared at the score in disbelief. He couldn’t beat that score today. He would have to come back another day to beat it, but he would beat it, no matter what. He stomped his foot in frustration, only to notice the entire Bonten group was looking, sans Mikey. He blinked and did what any person with an IQ between 85 and 115 would do...make a break for the food court before he could be harassed.
---x---
Was this the main reason Mikey agreed to this excursion? He didn’t want to admit to it. However, when the flyer said they had six different types of taiyaki in the featured food court, Mikey was sold instantly on the idea, as embarrassing as it was. He quietly walked towards the counter, scanning the menu with his pitch-black eyes only to discover there were, in fact, now eight taiyaki options. He smiled softly to himself as the person operating the counter looked on in confusion at the strange man in front of them, “Can I help you?” The food court employee asked him, tilting their head to the side slightly.
“Taiyaki, all of them,” Mikey said, sliding a large bill onto the counter.
“Do you mean all of the kinds or...all of them, all of them.” The employee clarified, thinking to themselves.
His eyes lit up, “I can have all of them?” He asked.
“As long as you pay for them, I don’t see why not...It might take a bit, though, because we warm them in an oven, so they get kinda crispy.” The employee explained, noticing the glimmer in his eyes.
“All of them, then.” Mikey clarified, adding another bill on the counter.
“Do I know you from somewhere, though?” They asked as they handed him his change, causing Mikey to pause for a brief moment.
“I haven’t ever met you before.” He replied, walking to one of the tables and sitting in the uncomfortably hard seating. It was nearly impossible to take a nap here due to how loud and bright it was, as well as how unbearable some of the smells were...Who honestly authorized it to smell like nacho cheese? Though, he also realized he was in a food court. Slouching down into the chair, he wondered what the rest of his gang had decided to put their minds to that day. He assumed Sanzu had found something involving guns and roped Takeomi into it as well, smirking because he knew that Takeomi had played before. Kokonoi had likely found something involving money, and The Haitani brothers honestly were talking up a storm about Dance Dance Revolution before they even arrived. Mochi and Kakucho were the two members of the group he wasn’t quite too sure about. He made a mental note to ask Kakucho when they boarded the bus again later that day.
“Alright, here are the first few, careful though, because they’re extremely hot.” The employee warned, setting a tray in front of the light-haired man, “I’ll keep them coming.”
Mikey reached forward and grabbed one of them, mentally noting that his hand was burning, though not exactly caring as the gratification of the taiyaki was going to be worth it in half a second. He bit in and leaned back in bliss. He was elated as he continued to eat through the pile of confections, completely losing track of time. He inwardly began to feel that the Russian death metal car ride from hell was worth it, and so was having to deal with Sanzu complaining about everything. And so was-
“Mikey, are you okay?”
He wanted to snap his neck.
Sanzu stared at the fair-haired man, who looked as though he had passed out in his chair, only for him to lean back up with a menacing stare slowly, “I’m fine.” He said coldly, taking another angry bite of the taiyaki.
“O...Oh…” The pink-haired man replied, nodding his head nervously as he backed away, “That’s a lot of taiyaki there.” He pointed towards the ever-growing pile of confections.
“I know. They’re mine.” Mikey responded as he finished the first, licking his lips and picking up another, “Where is everyone else?” He questioned as he bit into the sweet and bitter flavor of matcha.
“I saw them a couple of minutes ago; they’ll probably be here in a minute...Takeomi is smoking.” He informed the other, omitting the absolute ass-kicking he had received.
As if on cue, the group walked into the food court; however, the mood quickly changed as Kokonoi held up his phone, “We need to go, one of Ran’s fangirls posted them on their Instagram; and we need to get out of here,  now .” His eyes narrowing.
“Why are we blaming my fangirl for this? They’re just as much of Rindou’s as mi-OW” Ran once again getting elbowed in the side by his brother.
“We wouldn’t be in this mess if you didn’t name drop both me and yourself, so now you’re  really  more useless than Sanzu!” Rindou scolded him, “And you’re supposed to be older than me!”
“I’m RIGHT here!” Sanzu replied, raising his hands in exasperation.
“Cry me a river Sanzu, oh wait-” Mochi snorted, laughing at his own joke.
Kakucho grinned, “Mochi, that was surprisingly good coming from you.”
“I know, right. I surprise even myself sometimes.” The brawny man beamed.
“I hate all of you.” Sanzu huffed, crossing his arms.
“We hate you too; now let’s get going before we have to shoot our way out of a fucking arcade?” The long-haired blond replied in a haughty tone, motioning for the exit.
“Mikey, get a to-go box,” Kakucho suggested to the blond sitting at the table, eyeing the remaining taiyaki sadly.
“I’ll leave them.”
“Shotgun!” Sanzu yelled as they exited the arcade, Takeomi making eye contact with him and shaking his head.
“There isn’t even a passenger seat. What are the drugs hitting you that hard?” Kokonoi questioned him with a laugh.
“I’m assuming the cops are coming then?” Takeomi asked as he fished the keys to the bus out of his pocket, starting to walk with the group.
“ Oh yeah, Ran and Rindou are Instagram famous; Koko show him.” Mochi snorted, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Why is it always...fine.” He attempted to argue as he pulled up the post on his phone, revealing a video with nearly 500 likes and 130 comments.
“Wait, I didn’t see it yet!” Ran yelled as he ran over to Kokonoi, smushing his head in to see, “Wow, I look good… Rindou does, too, of course.”
“Shut the fuck up, you cretaceous period cretin.” Rindou hissed, flipping him off from afar only to have Ran run after him.
“Stop running in the parking lot!” Kakucho yelled, shaking his head, “I swear to god…”
“You have to admit, though, it was a good time.” Mochi stated with a smile, “We should do this again.”
“Alright, everyone, get on the fucking bus, or I’m leaving without you,” Takeomi yelled, hopping into the driver’s seat.
“And who died and made you king?!” Sanzu yelled only to smack his head on the roof while boarding the bus, causing Mikey to snort from a laugh uncharacteristically.
“Wait, did Mikey just laugh?” Kokonoi asked, genuinely amazed.
“I made Mikey laugh!” Sanzu cheered, patting himself on the back.
“Wow, if only we could hurt you more...then maybe we could restore all of his emotions…” Takeomi whispered to himself.
“What was that?” Sanzu questioned, leaning forward.
“No, nope, nothing.” Takeomi lied badly.
“That’s what I thought,” Sanzu replied with a smile, sitting back in his seat, Takeomi groaning and reaching for his pack of cigarettes only to realize there weren’t any left. He sighed heavily, leaning back into the cushion of the driver’s seat and staring up at the tattered ceiling. It was going to be a long drive home, huh.
---x---
In Toyko, the conflict with a group named “Bonten” intensifies...However, they seem to have a soft side too…
It was once again a Wednesday, except this week Sanzu Haruchiyo was on time, and there were no off-topic discussions. Instead, all that was discussed was saving Bonten from the PR nightmare the Haitani brothers had created for the gang. And, of course, the now planned hit on Howie Mandel. However, the damage was done, and the gang’s reputation seemed to go from “dangerous and deadly” to “upcoming idol group.” However, Mikey didn’t seem too troubled by it, though it wasn’t exactly possible to tell what he thought until it was too late.
Takeomi sighed as he once again lit a cigarette, staring off into the distance, “Here’s to another fucking Wednesday.”

The day you would finally be popular.
You walked into Hexside, full of confidence and excitement you strutted the halls like you owned them. Which you soon would be doing every single day until you graduated.
You walked down the hall until you reached your locker,  it spit out your (your track) books when you heard your name called from the end of the hall.
"Oh Y/N dear! Over here darling!" You looked over and recognized the girl as Arcadia Floss, the most popular girl in school, and your new 'best friend.' You scooped up your books and walked over to where she and 2 other girls were standing by the lockers.
"Arcadia!" You exclaimed happily looking at the girl leaning against the lockers, fixing her makeup. "Girls." You added, looking to Arcadia's left and right , acknowledging your other new 'besties.' You instantly noticed that both girls' arms were crossed and they were squinting at you, which felt incredibly unsettling. You hugged your books to your chest. "...Is something wrong?"
Arcadia slammed the makeup mirror in her hand closed. "Yes, there is actually." She said, looking you directly in the eyes as she used her illusion magic to make the mirror disappear. She stopped leaning on the lockers  and crossed her arms before looking at you. "You still have to do the initiation." You opened your mouth to speak but Arcadia held a hand up, silencing you.
She walked over so she was standing next to you and put her arm over your shoulders. "You see all these students?" You nodded, looking at all the students down the hall at their lockers talking to their friends, or just relaxing by themselves. "You have to steal from one of them."
Your jaw dropped to the floor in shock. "Steal!? From any person here?!" You asked a little bit too loudly, that a few people in the hall turned to look at you for a few seconds before going about their own business.
"I told you she wasn't gonna be up for it Dia..." One of the girls, Sasha specifically, said from behind you.
Arcadia turned her head and practically hissed at Sasha before turning back to look at the hall of students. "Not just any student.. Her." She said pointing to a girl that made you gasp.
She wanted you to steal, from Lilith Clawthorne. A girl who was older than you, captain of the grudgby team, and taller than you by a few inches. If she wanted to the potionist could probably kill you and get away with it.
"But, Lilith's like.. uh, older than us!" You countered, hoping that Arcadia would realize that there was no way you would not get into trouble when stealing something from her.
"I know, but don't you want to be popular like us?" She countered back, turning her head to look at you. You looked down, right now your feet were very interesting.
Just then, the bells began screaming, alerting the start of the first class. Arcadia took her arm off your shoulders and rested her hand on one of your shoulders. "Think about it, and tell us at lunch." She said plainly, taking her hand off your shoulder, summoning her books, and walking to class with Sasha, and the other girl, Iris, in tow.
Still hugging your books to your chest, you made your way to your first class.
------------------------------
The rest of your classes before lunch felt 10x longer than they usually were. You couldn't stop thinking about what Arcadia had said. You had to steal from Lilith. You didn't want to steal from her! But you wanted to be popular more than anything in the world.. Your mind went back and forth between the two options until the bell screamed for lunch.
You had made your decision.
------------------------------
You walked into the cafeteria hugging yourself, you scanned the room as you walked deeper and deeper into the cafeteria until you found Arcadia and the girls at their usual table. You stopped hugging yourself and walked up to the end of their table, smiling slightly.
Iris and Sasha gave you skeptical looks as soon as you reached the table, and Arcadia looked up from her scroll. "If you want to sit at this table, you know what to do." She said, glancing at where Lilith was waiting in line for lunch.
You took a deep breath and turned around on your heel, walking to the far wall of the cafeteria, where Lilith was waiting in line to get her lunch. You hid behind a cart full of expired food, pulling your hood over your head, covering most of your hair and some of your features.
You drew a (track color) circle in the air, using your magic to pull Lilith's hood over her head as well, except it completely covered her hair and face, to the point she was practically suffocating in it.
That's when you made your move.
You ran quickly to where Lilith was, snatching a bag of snails from her side and running back towards the other end of the cafeteria.
You slowed down your running when you were a ways away and came to a halt, looking behind you.
Lilith finally got her hood off her head and gasped for air like she had never breathed before. The red head panted, putting a hand to her heart, looking to her side for her snails. You heard her exclaim in anger, throwing her hands up in the air in frustration.
You let out all the air you were holding in, she hadn't seen you, in fact, it seemed like no one had seen you! You turned back around and continued to the table, where the girls were at. But, someone did see you... One person, saw you..
Lilith's little sister.
------------------------------
The walk back to the table was painfully slow, you were clutching the bag of snails so tight in your hand that you felt it might fall off! You thought that since you weren't caught you would feel better, plus, you were a popular kid now! But you just felt, dirty, like you didn't earn the popularity..
You finally arrived at the table standing at the end of it once again. Awaiting to be noticed by Arcadia and the other 2 girls. Arcadia didn't seem to notice you but Iris did. She nudged Arcadia who looked up from her scroll to see you with the bag of snails.
She smiled her classic mean girl smile and began to speak. "Wow! I'm impressed with you Y/N." She paused, "Well, congratulations! You passed the initiation. Take a seat." Arcadia gestured to the bench across from where she was sitting.
You, still holding Lilith's bag of snails, were about to happily sit down, you were about to become a popular kid. A popular girl. But, all of a sudden, you were picked up by something or someone VERY tall, and very... Slimy?
You screamed and dropped the bag of snails out of fear, that's when you noticed you were picked up by none other than an Abomination. 'Well that explains the slimy feeling..' You thought, continuing to FREAK out, flailing in it's grasp.
The 3 girls gasped, Sasha dropped her scroll in shock and Arcadia looked at you in disgust, probably because of the slime you were now covered in. They were frozen for about 3 seconds before another abomination came and flipped the table next to them, causing them to scream and run off, and out out of the cafeteria.
You were so close to popularity..
That's when you noticed, everyone was screaming... You managed to look around to see a bunch of abominations were destroying the cafeteria! You were about to scream with everyone else when someone walked under you, picking up the bag of snails. You instantly recognized her.
Edalyn Clawthorne. Lilith's sister.
Eda stepped onto the bench of the table and then onto the table itself. She put the bag of snails to her side, then, putting her left hand on her hip and her right in the air, she proclaimed.
"NO ONE MESSES WITH THE CLAWTHORNE FAMILY!" She exclaimed, before looking at you directly in the eyes.
You looked down and squirmed mid air, trying to set yourself free from the abomination's grasp to no avail.
Eda rolled her eyes at your screaming and laughed, causing you to look up at her. "I guess you've learned your thieving lesson huh?"
You nodded erratically, your hair becoming a bit messy in the process. She smiled and closed her eyes before dramatically clapping her hands together. "Abominations! Cease!" She exclaimed, after a few seconds of not hearing any ceasing, she opened one eye, to see all of her abominations staring at her.
She opened her other eye and clapped her hands together once more. "Abominations! Cease!" She repeated, the abominations again not listening to the command.
The abomination holding you tilted it's head and dropped you on the ground, causing you to land flat on your face. It walked closer to the table Eda was standing on. Once it was inches from her face, she leaned back slightly, clapping her hands together one more time, and speaking. "...Cease......?"
The abomination screamed in her face causing her to run for the hills, lucky she did in time, because the abomination swung it's inky hand right where she was just as she ran off.
You stood up from the floor and backed up slowly from the abomination, it, seemingly not caring about you, then proceeded to walk around the room, consuming the other abominations, one by one, making itself bigger and bigger, until it was close to being as tall as the banners on the wall!
It roared and ran through the wall of the cafeteria, making a giant abomination shaped hole in the process. You stared where the abomination had escaped with your jaw on the floor, only then noticing Eda and Lilith, (the only other people in the cafeteria at this point,) to the right of you, staring at the same gaping hole in the wall.
Lilith turned her whole body to face Eda with the most, 'what the fuck did you do!?!?' look on her face.
In return Eda smiled, taking the bag of snails off the side of her uniform and holding them out to Lilith.
"I got your lunch money back!"
------------------------------
I know it wasn't really a one shot, but I'm planning on making a part 2 that makes it MUCH more one shoty so don't worry-
Anyway I hope you enjoyed this! The part 2 should be up later this week! Hopefully before we get our hearts ripped out from Young Blood Old Souls ;-;

14. Smoke
Tom tries to get his voice to sound less humiliating by picking up an old vice of his; smoking. The Ink Demon does not approve. “N-not because I CARE about him, you idiots!” He just thinks Tom’s new voice is too funny to destroy with smoke. (Set in the FIFE AU after Tom’s Bargain, AKA: “If it bites, curses, claws, and hisses, It’s very unwise to ask it for wishes”)
The Ink Demon glared at the wolf disapprovingly as he grabbed the lighter.
“You know, Allison’s gonna be soooo heartbroken when she finds out you picked up THAT old habit again…”
Thomas rolled his eyes and reached for the notepad, only to be betrayed by it as it was too full of his concepts for an ink proof prison to hold Sammy in and keep him from escaping. There wasn’t even a single bit of space left for a single word for him to write.
“Well, c’mon big guy! Use your mouth-words!” The Demon crossed his arms, looking like a mother scolding a child. “If you’re gonna go through alllllll the trouble of SUMMONING A %@^&ING DEMON LORD WHO’D KILL US ALL WITHOUT HESITATION BEHIND OUR BACKS, you might as well use the fancy new voice box he gave you!”
“I down't wawnt tuwu tawk wight now.” Thomas growled as he saw the demon smile in that way where it was obvious he was holding back laughter out of the corner of his eye, only to snap back into his angry/disapproving pose when he turned to look at him. “i'm nowt in the mood fow iwt.”
The mechanic grabbed the pack of cigarettes and walked out of the house, hoping to put enough distance between himself and the nagging demon to actually hear himself think.
When he thought he’d walked far enough, he leaned against the graffiti-covered wall, took a cigarette out of the pack, and lit it up.
-----
Smoking with a wolf’s muzzle was weird and kinda hard, especially since he wasn’t used to doing it. He was half expecting to accidentally swallow a few as canine instinct mistook them for food. He was definitely expecting the coughing fits, and was expecting them to be bad as since he was a cartoon, his actions and the ways the environment interacted with him tended to be exaggerated at times that he felt were inconvenient.
“Fuck uwu Sammy Wawwence…” He grumbled under his breath as he lit up his sixth one. “Fuck uwu, youw dewusions of gwandew, youw stupid, god awfuw shape-shifting abiwities, youw cowawdwiness, awnd whatevew the fuck awwowed uwu tuwu be capabwe of doing ovew hawf the shit uwu've done duwing this… nightmawe!”
“HEEEEEY TOMMY!”
The wolf gritted his teeth as he heard the sound of a large inkwell rolling towards him at high speeds, and was tempted to punt it away when it rolled around in a circle and landed upright, but the exhausted looking cartoon demon popped out of there *just* has he had his kick ready and primed for it.
“I…*huff* finally found you! Jeez Louise, would it kill ya ta hear a guy out before storming off?! Oh that’s right! It will.”
The wolf raised an eyebrow.
“Look, smoking as a human’s bad and all that jazz, smoking as a toon is also technically bad, but only in the sense we only show villains smoking so when you smoke, you’re saying “Look at me! I’m a terrible person.” get yourself some cigarettes made of ink and you’ll get some glares, but nothing worse than that. As for smoking normal, non-ink cigarettes meant for HUMAN consumption’s even worse for you as a toon! Look at yourself, you’re made of INK! You’re flammable as *%#@, the only reason why you haven’t sentenced yourself to death by being fired up from the inside out is because you got lucky!”
“Nice twy asshowe, uwu cawwed 'wowf' too many goddamned times, how duwu I know if uwu'we tewwing the twuth ow nowt?? I suwe as heww can’t!”
“Well, I’ve been HELPING everyone as much as I can!” The demon clenched his fists. “I get it! I’m ‘Drew’s demon-son’ and ‘we’re just two sides of the same *@#^ing lying coin’ and all that $#*!... But unlike Drew, I’ve been trying to make this right!”
“Uwu duwu know thawt uwu'we the weason why I was despewate enough tuwu gow tuwu him in the fiwst pwace, wight?”
“Huh?”
“Inky, I twied tuwu awsk uwu fow my body bawck, whewn uwu wefused, I asked fow a body simiwaw tuwu my owd owne, I wouwd've settwed fow being a cawtoon if I stiww wooked somewhat human wike Susie does! Heww, I wouwd have settwed fow uwu juwst giving me my VOICE bawck! But duwu uwu know whawt uwu did instead?”
“...What did I do then?”
“Uwu said no tuwu aww of thawt awnd instead of coming fowwawd with the twuth uwu juwst made excuses at evewy tuwn awnd couwdn't even wook me in the eyes whewn uwu made thewm. Awnd duwu uwu know why? Because uwu awnd I both uwu thawt uwu wike seeing me wike thiws: as 'youw cweation'...” The mechanic got up in the demon’s face and jabbed his finger into his chest. “Inkweww Bendamnin Dwew, uwu'we nowt doing thiws because uwu wawnt us tuwu be bettew, uwu'we doing thiws because uwu wawnt us tuwu be YOUWS instead of JOEY’S.”
“I... Well... you’re ri-” The demon’s shocked and somewhat guilty expression fell into a frown. “If I’m such a ‘Joey Drew 2.0′, then why would you turn to SAMMY *%#@ING LAWRENCE of all people!? I’ll admit that this whole reformation thing was a lot harder than I thought, but Sammy hates your guts and I’m convinced the only reason why he doesn’t try to kill you is because he think’s death’s too good for you or something!”
“I didn't know thawt thawt was Sammy's summoning ciwcwe, wituaw, whatevew. I didn't even make the connection thawt the cocky, weiwdwy fwiwtatious, cannibawistic fish demon thawt wiked tuwu wiwe me up because he couwd was the same entity as the masked woony ink monstew thawt wouwd apowogize tuwu a stwangew if they pouwed soup own him.”
“...I’m Sorry...”
“Huh?”
“Everything you said about me was right,” The Ink Demon fidgeted with his gloves nervously. “I was being childish and greedy and I’m sorry that I hurt you when I was only thinking about myself and what I wanted from this new situation. I was so focused on the fact I was making new bodies so that people wouldn’t be suffering in their current ones, I never once stopped and asked myself if the bodies I made made them happy too.”
“Wow...” The wolf stared at the demon in a subtle mix of pride and awe. “Thawt's actuawwy weawwy matuwe of uwu tuwu say. I down't even think thawt joey wouwd even get those fiwst two wowds out of hiws mouth, wet awone twy tuwu expwain whewe he went wwong.”
“But don’t forget that YOU *#@$ed up here too!” The Ink demon jabbed Tom in the chest twice as hard as he did to him. “The reason why everyone in the crazy inky town hates your guts is because in addition to your involvement with the ink machine, your whole ‘lone wolf’ thing makes you impossible to work with! Allison TRIES to get other people involved in her ‘lets kidnap a mentally unstable searcher’ plots, when she’s here, she interacts with the people around her! You just lock yourself up and do things behind everyone’s backs! Can’t you at LEAST run some of your ideas through someone else before doing them? I’ve seen the blueprints for your torture machine/prison and I gotta say, even if I was still an excellent super villain demon lord at the time of seeing that $#*!: NO. That’s WAY too far! I don’t even think that’s the slightest bit ethically sound and it’s 100% a violation on privacy, even for a creature that’s in a hive mind. Seriously: Talk. To. Other. People. You. Edgy. &!*^#.”
“...In hindsight; I shouwd've at weast asked Buddy whawt he summoned in the studio awnd why he did thawt instead of juwst bwindwy doing dangewous shit awn my own...”
The wolf grumbled as he blew out a puff of smoke.
“That’s the spirit! Now come with me, I think I know a way to get your voice deep and gravelly without you turning yourself into smoked wolf brisket.”

The skeletons, the swamp and the song bird(undertale  drabble)
I am not gonna post this to Ao3 (probably) but I wanted to  write something about the boys™ ( y’know San’s Red and Skull because they spark joy) and I ended up making...a swamp monster Au? hey, you know what sure. I'm chill.
So please enjoy this little drabble
Sans is half blue spotted salamander
Red is half Marine  iguana
And our boy skull is an unholy amalgam of  giant leeches  that makes him look  like he has tentacles. c:
It had been another indescribably shitty day.
You were not a pessimist but the dark circles under your eyes had something to say about your lifestyle.
It was shit, plain and simple. You had a hard time separating your real life from your work life and that lead to more stress, less sleep and a pissy boss telling you to get your act together before coming back to the venue.
A sigh left you as you sat hunched over on a stump in the forest clearing.
This was your quiet place, you came here to sing and practice routines.
You were an entertainer and it was hard not to keep your mask on, you pretended all the time to be someone...something you were not it was hard when someone asked you about yourself because you didn't know who you were off the stage anymore.
So yeah, life was kinda shit right now so you threw yourself into what you normally did when you hiked up here, into the humid underbrush of a forest no one wanted to come to, legends of creatures eating full-grown men whole and actual real dangers surrounded this place, but you didn’t much care anymore.
After all, the ones who were more dangerous were outside the forest.
Taking off a ball cap and letting your hair tumble free you wipe your brow free of sweat and kick your legs as you sit.
Most of the forest was loud, full if chattering and nattering of birds and other creatures, but this space that just dropped off into a bog, was quiet.
You liked to come here in the wee hours of the morning and watch the fog roll off the algae-green water, it made for the perfect ambience to a forlorn song or a crooning that let all your own heartbreak loose.
But today, in the evening after being told your routine was shit and you were one slip up from being let go and replaced by someone new, who you had no grievance with, but it was the principal of the matter, you had worked so hard to get to sing and perform for crowds and now….you were having it dangled above your head.
You grit your teeth and for the first time since you ever came here you let out a cry of pure frustration and rage.
The quiet never broke, even through all your angered screaming, then looking between your knees as you sat and into the murky water you buried your head in your hands and wept.
You did not know what to do! It was all too much all at once.
Still, you came back to a familiar song, even with a tearful voice.
"Green finch and linnet bird, nightingale, blackbird teach me how to sing."
You were able to get a few verses in before the sun began to Dip down below the horizon and you got up from your perch.
No point trying to navigate this quagmire in the gloom.
You took careful steps, keeping to the path you always did when something caught your attention. A pale bluish light hovering in the air, soon being joined by more close by of other colours…you spotted red as well, and a strange, almost grey-blue light. You hummed to yourself, reminded of the fact that this was a bog, and swamp gas igniting was a thing. Still, you stopped and stared, a smile playing at your lips.
"Wow, this is the most beautiful light show I have ever seen! And people say the Fen is haunted. More like hauntingly beautiful!"
You giggle to yourself and don't even notice the lights flare brighter at your statement.
You always loved the Gloom, you just never knew the gloom loved you back.
---
Well….you never thought it could get worse, but even after giving it your all you still ended up being fired.
So you came to the bog to say your goodbyes. You probably would have to move back into your parent’s town.
"I'm gonna miss this place, not the shitty managers, or the fights...but I always thought the locals were silly to be afraid. This place is so magical and I'm really gonna miss it…"
It was weird, saying goodbye to a place. But you somehow still ended up crying a little.
And for the first time ever in this clearing, you heard a sound.
A mournful wailing, deep like a foghorn that rattled into your very bones.
It looked like the Bog itself had seemed to shift, the top layer of Jenny green teeth giving way to the sound of mud slurping and water gushing.
You couldn't move, frozen to the spot as you watched in awed terror.
Writhing tentacles that moved like leeches and were just as black moved towards you, you figured this was it, you were dead. You sucked in a breath and screwed your eyes up tight.
You were startled as the wet appendages slowly ran over your cheek. Delicately.
You cracked open an eye and saw there in the water a skull, a giant gaping hole that looked painful gushing water as it rose, one of its eyes was devoid of light and the other…
Was a deep crimson, the colour of blood.
Yet it smiled softly, even with so many teeth.
The tentacles seemed to be coming from it and it made you cock your head to the side as it almost shyly drew closer, hauling more of its body out of the water.
Its torso was also skeletal, and it was gigantic, at least eight feet tall without including its lower half.
You thought of story's of swamp hags dragging people under and looked at this...it seemed to fit some sort of description...it definitely looked like a drowned corpse.
But as it hauled itself out of the water and you saw how it slid over to you in one fluid motion, how its bones melded into strange dark tentacles, how it's eye lit up when it reached a skeletal hand over to pat your hair.
This was surreal, strange in every sense of the word. Your voice caught in your throat as  two other skulls, smaller than the first bobbed in the water, one had white pinpricks of light for eyes like the stars in the sky, the other had sharper teeth and predatory red slits for eye lights.
They shared a look and dipped under the surface, leaving you with the behemoth.
It was so strange having something so giant hold your face and look you over, play with your hair.
You finally found your voice, it wobbled despite your best efforts.
"S-sorry to bother you...I didn't know anyone lived here. Don't worry I will go."
The touching and playing stopped and it said one word that made your stomach drop and your bones freeze.
"N o."
It was soft, but full of a strange emotion you could not understand and you felt your eyes widen in shock as millions of tentacles surrounded you, even if you were to scream it would come out muffled as the world was blotted out by the writhing darkness.
---
The moment you were spat out from the inky prison you were on a shore...a tiny island with a cave in the center.
You were surrounded by the bog and your heart sped up when you saw the water froth and churn.
Out of the murk popped the small skeletal creature...white eyes.
He watched you curiously before sliding up onto the island. His lower body made you actually smile, he looked like some sort of blue newt from the waist down. That was it. You had to have bumped your head and were slowly bleeding out. None of this was possible.
So, since this is probably a weird dream induced by bloodless, you may as well be nice. You smile and wave to the creature who looks shocked and  his skeletal face flushes a bright blue as little wisps of blue light curl around him.
He Pat's his face roughly and scampers off into the cave.
"Bye lil guy."
The next thing you know you are being tackled and you are staring up at a grinning maw full of sharp teeth and slit red eyes.
"Um...are you going to eat me?"
If you are already dying you may as well just get that question out of the way. The newt skeleton seemed harmless...but this one…
It looked more like one of those lizards that catches fish, it had sharp claws on both its skeletal and reptilian appendages. This was a predator and it could rip you apart...yet you were suprised when it laughed and started ...purring?
It was a gravely sound that you felt in your bones, but it was strangely warm.
"Heh, cute but I'm not gonna even try songbird. Skull would kill me...oh speak of the devil. Goodluck sweetness.~"
He scrambled off of you, but not before licking your cheek with a forked red tongue.
He too wandered off to the cave...it struck you that these creatures could talk, which sent your mind reeling, even as you were picked up by curling black tentacles.
You crossed your arms and looked at the creature holding you.
Skull...right?
"So...are you going to eat me?"
Skull...looked horrified. His one eye light got impossibly small and he surged out of the water, reaching out to hold you...your clothing was no doubt ruined by now and everything felt so surreal. He scooped you up and you were shocked by how warm he was.
"No. Wont. Keep you safe."
You blinked softly.
Huh.
"Can I go home?"
You were squeezed a little tighter and you realized he was bringing you to the cave.
"Keep you safe."
You were placed up high on a rocky shelf that was covered with sweet smelling moss and animal skins. tentacles retreating after softly patting your head. You blinked in the low light.
It...was a little home? The cave had three rocky pools of water and some different shelves and outcroppings. You held in your grasp of wonder as all around you little jars filled with bioluminescent blue mushrooms blinked to life in the growing gloom.
You may be dead...but you guessed there were worse places to be dead. You looked down and waved at the little newtiton and received a wink from the skelezard.
Skull was winding himself into a ball of tentacles inside the biggest pool while the other two were resting on old animal skins and warming up by a fire that crackled with the smell of roasting fish.
You sighed softly and laid down on the surprisingly soft moss.
You guessed this was fine for now.
It is not like you had anywhere to be and you were safe, unless you were already dead...plus you probably were in shock, nothing felt real right now.
Closing your eyes you heard three separate voices call out to say the same thing.
" Good night songbird"
---
"How long do you think she will sleep for?"
Sans stifled a yawn as he had stayed up to chat with the others.
It was no fair, he had found you first, someone singing in the early morning just for him. He had hoped to lure you with the will-o-the-wisp's into the water at first but in the end he had let you go. You were just...your song was so sad.
Mournful.
He couldn't bring himself to hurt you, and you came back. A new song each day that felt like it was just for him.
Then Red had to show up and decide he liked your singing too.
And you came once or twice at night so, skull found out too. Skull was dangerous, sans thought for sure you were dead but the behemoth seemed smitten. He liked your happy songs filled with love, your sad songs filled with loss...you sounded like you had lived all these songs.
Then you came to the fen not with a song, but with tears, with frustration and heartbreak.
And yet you had still called their home beautiful...their lights that they put up to cheer you...you called them beautiful too.
And of course it was hard to hold skull back from wanting to take you then.
"I dunno squirt. But Hell. I know she deserves some sleep...she always looks so tired. But she still hikes out here everyday."
Red growled and looked up at your sleeping form.
Their songbird was suffering all this time and they never noticed until now.
It made his instincts flare up. He had to protect you...he had to, you were too fragile to keep out of sight for long.
If he did someone else might hurt you.
You were better off here.
He may be adverse to skulls method of getting you here, but now that you were…
"So, we all agree we are keeping her?"
Sans thought it over and nodded, he may not want to share, but he was stuck in this situation now.
"...I mean...I don't want her to leave, and she is so tiny and thin. We should probably take care of her."
"Protect little bird. Needs to eat more."
Skull was already in full nesting mode with you here. It was weird to see someone so...feral become a purring kitten in your presence.
They all stopped and stared all three skulls snapping up to the shelf when you cooed out a little yawn before rolling over in your sleep.
"...too cute."
Skull was holding his face and twirling his tentacles into tight knots. He probably wanted to hold you.
"Stars, yeah we gotta keep her. I'll get her more furs for her nest tomorrow."
And now Red was gone too. His mind working on instinct to protect, provide and comfort.
Though sans was not much better. He was already trying to figure out where to catch more humans and extort them for favours so they would give him things for you.
Yes. They all looked at each other and nodded.
The songbird was theirs. The world would never harm them again.

What Happened 27 Years Later - Richie Tozier
Tumblr media
word count: 18k warnings: swearing, mentions of sex, gore summary: 27 years after the horrid summer of ‘89, (y/n) gets a call that the Losers Club need her to come back to Derry to put an end to It once and for all.  But she’s got quite a history with Richie Tozier, and she’s not sure how great of an idea seeing him again is. (a/n): after IT Chapter 2 I got the inspiration to write for the fandom again, not sure if I'll stick with it or not but enjoy this super long fic anyways lolol

When Mike Hanlon called on that fate damning day, (y/n) had almost forgotten that it had been twenty some odd years since she’d seen her childhood friends.  Or even heard from them.  And despite the wave of nostalgia she felt when she heard his voice, a part of her still wanted to make up a reason as to why she couldn’t go back to Maine.  Any excuse would have worked, she was an excellent liar.
“(y/n), you have to come back,” Mike had pleaded into the line.  “IT’s back, (y/n).  We promised”
Her heart sank to her gut, and it was as though her insides were digesting themselves.  All rational thought told her to decline, to go back on her promise, to tell Mike she would never step foot in Derry again.  But instead, what came out of her mouth was-
“Of course.  I’ll get the first flight out tomorrow”
It was like her instincts kicked in and spoke for her, knowing that she was going to do everything in her power to avoid going back to that hellhole of a town.  For years she’d rebuilt her life, pushed down her trauma, lost the memories of the horrors that occured when she was just a child.  And not even just that fucking clown.
“See you soon, (y/n/n).  RIchie will be glad to know you’re coming”
He hung up before she could catch her breath, not having heard either of those names in… well, twenty seven years. ___
“(y/n/n)! Richie! Get the hell over here before we fuckin’ leave without you!” Eddie screamed from outside, where him and the rest of the Losers Club were waiting with their bikes to head to the quarry.
“We’ll just meet you there!” Richie called back through (y/n’s) open window.  She was preoccupied with packing up her backpack with adventure necessities.
“No we won’t!” (y/n) added in a holler, shaking her head at Richie.  “Come on, let’s go now” She said, throwing her backpack on her shoulders.
“No,” Richie whined as he dragged his feet after her.  “Can’t we go on our own in a few minutes?
“Why?” (y/n) laughed, grabbing a can of rootbeer from the fridge on her way out the door.  “That desperate for some alone time?” She added in an overly theatrical sultry tone, laughing at her own funny voice.
Being Richie’s best friend had definitely rubbed off on her.
“Well, yeah” Richie chuckled, hoping he could just laugh over the awkwardness.
(y/n) spun on her heel, the corner of her lip tugging upwards even though she bit her cheek to keep from grinning.  It was kinda hard not to smile at him when he gave her that dorky look.
“Come on,” She giggled softly, tugging on his wrist with the hand that wasn’t holding a rootbeer, and pressing a quick and chaste kiss to his cheek.  “Our friends are waiting”
With that, he groaned, but nevertheless followed her out the door.
He’d follow her anywhere. ___
They were going to meet at a chinese restaurant.  Well, the chinese restaurant, the only one in the small town of Derry.  The one that they went to after getting plastered prom night, the one they went to to pick up dumplings to sneak into the Aladdin.  It had so many hazy memories surrounding it.  The more (y/n) tried to remember, the less she could actually recall.
It almost felt like they were made up.  Instead of being precious childhood memories, they felt like dreams she’d had years ago and could only vaguely remember.  They were real, though, right?
It was strange, second guessing herself when it came to some of her memories of growing up in Derry.  Especially the ones with-
“(y/n),” A voice announced behind her, like they’d forgotten her name until the moment they saw her standing outside the restaurant.  She spun around, staring wide eyed at Big Bill Denbrough.  “Hey” He breathed out, and once again her instincts kicked in, making her feet move until she was in his arms, hugging him tightly, and burying her face in his coat.
“I can’t believe… I can’t believe you’re here.  That I’m here even” She chuckled bittersweetly as she pulled away, eyes flickering over Bill’s features.  He’d aged well, all things considered.
“Yeah, me neither, to be honest,” He gave a half assed laugh, shoving his hands into his pockets.  “Well look at you, what are you up to these days?”
“I uh… I’m living in New York now…” She started, nodding her head slowly.  “Trying to be a journalist but… it’s hard these days, you know?”
“Oh really? I’m writing too… got a few things published but I’m in a bit of a stump right now”
(y/n) gave him a small smile, and nodded her head.  She had dealt with her fair share of writer’s block.
Mike was the next to show up, and again they played catch up, and he told them that he’d started working at the library, and had never left Derry.  This confused both Bill and (y/n) but neither criticized him for it.
Then came Beverly, whose presence was enough to make things easier, and conversation seemed less forced.  It must be her wit and charm.  They were all grateful that she didn’t grow out of it.
Eddie arrived not too long after, jittery and awkward as usual, but it was endearing.
Ben gave them all a surprise, he’d grown up real well, and seemed to finally have some confidence in himself as well.  (y/n) started to wonder if everyone really was doing as great as they were saying.  If they were all doing better than her.
Or maybe it was because she wasn’t around.
The more the others started to catch up and get into a more natural conversation, the quieter she became, observing them, seeing how happy they all were together.  She debated whether they would notice if she left right now, if she turned and walked down the alley, and then flagged down a cab to take her straight back to the airport.
“Well look at all you motherfuckers standing around outside in the cold!”
Suddenly she was drawn right back into reality, perking up to see Richie Tozier getting out of a cab, rubbing his hands together and then stuffing them into his coat pockets.  He was grinning from ear to ear, that same, dorky, adorable grin.  That grin made (y/n) certain that she was remembering Derry correctly, that it wasn’t all made up in her head.
His smile went soft when his gaze landed on her, while Bill was greeting him with a hug, and Eddie was making fun of how he must’ve never cut his hair, which hung in messy curls just past his ears.
“Hey,” He said, after what felt like a lifetime passed.  Bill let go of him and he wandered up to (y/n), a disbelieved scoff of a laugh escaping his lips.  “Wow, look at you, toots,” His hands wrapped around her shoulders, squeezing them gently as he smiled at her up and down.  “Sure grew up to be a Maxim model huh?”
Finally, she made a sound, laughing and punching his shoulder before he tugged her against him for a hug.
“Well c’mere rascal,” He said as he wrapped his arms around her tight, and it felt natural to rest her cheek against his chest.  “Missed ya”
“Missed you too, Rich,” She mumbled against his coat.  Even though she hadn’t missed him until she saw him again, just now.  “But- uh- what about you?” She asked, pulling away far too quickly for Richie’s liking, and wrapping her arms around herself.  It was to keep warm, but Richie knew it was a defense mechanism.
“Oh, you know, LA, radioshow, adult life and all that bullshit” He rolled his eyes, and (y/n’s) lips parted as though to convince him otherwise, but she quickly shut it and nodded her head awkwardly.
“Right” She mumbled, and everyone filed into the restaurant. ___
“Alright, my turn.  What’s your dream job?” (y/n) asked curiously while she unrolled a fruit roll up.
“My dream job?” Richie scoffed at the question.  “We’re paying a game where you can ask anything you want, and I have to answer honestly.  And you still haven’t asked how big my-”
“Beep beep!” (y/n) screeched before giggling.  “Jesus Rich, it’s my turn, and that’s my question”
“Alright alright…” Richie trailed off, staring up at the sky while he thought.
They’d been laying on her roof for a few hours now.  Originally they’d just come outside because the sun was setting, and (y/n) thought it would be neat to watch.  But the sun had long set, and the stars were twinkling in the inky sky now.  They’d gone back inside, only to get a blanket to rest on, and snacks to keep them energized through their game.
“What do you think I’d even be good at?” He finally asked.  “I mean, really, besides flipping burgers at Burger King, what is there for me?”
“What?” (y/n) hummed, looking over at him and furrowing her brows.  “Richie, you’re good at everything.  You could be… a professional dancer-”
“What the fuck!?”
“Or a doctor-”
“Opposite sides of the spectrum toots-”
“Maybe a love doctor then,” She giggled, and then looked over to see Richie furrowing his brows and shaking his head at her ridiculousness.  “What? You’re flirty, you’ve got moves.  But if not that then-”
“Why do you believe in me so fucking much?” He cut her off again, this time quietly, and his eyes stared into hers seriously, trying to figure her out.
“What do you mean?” She replied.  “Why wouldn’t I?”
Of course, he could give her his endless list of reasons why she shouldn’t.  But she’d spoken so confusedly, like the very idea of not believing in him never once crossed her mind.  Something about it was so sweet, so innocent, so loving, that he forgot all about his hidden insecurities, and instead was overcome with adoration for this girl.
He realized he must’ve been thinking and staring at her for too long, because her brows drew together like she was worried about him.
“Richie? Are you alright?”
He nodded, a soft smile tugging at the corners of his lips, and his hand reached out to take hers, the one that wasn’t holding a fruit roll up.  Despite blushing at the action while he intertwined their fingers, she was still confused by the action.
“I’m gonna fuckin’ marry you one day” He announced, and (y/n) let out a laugh, surprised by the comment.
“Why?” She asked through her giggles, eyeing their connected hands.
It wasn’t like it was the first time Richie held her hand.  He did it all the time, the boy craved physical attention.  But something about laying on the roof, stargazing, and his hand in hers, was different.
“No one in this goddamn town’s good enough for you anyways.  Your other options are a group of psychopaths, or the vapid dick-twitches from school-”
“Alright, alright,” (y/n) squeezed his hand, getting him to stop running his mouth.  “So you’re my ideal husband then, huh?”
“Sure am toots,” Richie grinned at her, and she couldn’t help but smile back at him.  “What do you say, when we do it, we move the fuck outta Maine”
“When we do it?” (y/n) repeated, and moved to lay on her side to give him her full attention.  Their hands still clasped together between them.  “You’re serious? You actually want to-”
“Hell yeah,” He answered sincerely, but the dopey smile on his face made (y/n) curious if he was being serious or not.  “Why not?”
She let out a huff, eyes wide, somehow still surprised by Richie and his antics.  After all these years, he still managed to sweep her off her feet with surprise.
“Because we’re seventeen!” She exclaimed.  “I don’t even know where I want to go to college yet- or even what to major in and-and you want to get married?”
“Hm,” Richie hummed, as he contemplated it for a moment.  “How about this then, when we’re, say, thirty? If you’re not married yet, I’ll marry you”
“Uh huh, and if we lose touch? You just gonna show up out of nowhere with a ring?” (y/n) teased, and Richie faked a glare towards her.
“You think we’re gonna lose touch? Us? No way.  Not in a million years”
She nodded her head side to side in agreement.  There wasn’t a chance the two of them could lose touch.  They were best friends, if not just a little bit closer, and dangerously sitting on the line of something more.
“Okay then, a marriage pact it is,” (y/n) chuckled.  “Shouldn’t there be like… rules?”
“Nope,” Richie said, popping his lips dramatically, and making her furrow her brows in silent question.  “Because then you’ll make a rule against me killin’ all your boyfriends so I can marry ya”
She scoffed out a laugh, before going instantly silent as she saw the serious look on his face.  She stared at him for a minute, trying to read his complex expression.  Richie was fairly good at hiding his emotions, but she had a way of getting under his skin and getting him to confess to whatever it was he was hiding.
Tonight all she had to do was raise her eyebrows, and the trashmouth caved.
“Or we can say fuck the pact, and just get married next year” He told her.  And the girl’s eyes nearly popped out of her head.
“What?” She mumbled.
“We’ll be eighteen,” Richie shrugged.  “And then we can move outta this awful fuckin’ town together.  I’ll follow you, to whatever school you choose, I’ll go with you.  I probably won’t get in but that’s alright, I’ll work, and help make rent, it’ll be fun.  Adult life shit”
(y/n) laughed breathlessly, her eyes full of wonder at how he’d thought up all of this in that eccentric mind of his.
“You want to marry me that bad, huh?” She asked softly, and Richie just grinned back at her.  “And you want to live with me? Damn Tozier… I thought you were a commitment-phobe?”
“Toots, I’ve been hanging around you for…  ten whole years now,” He told her, and his thumb began to stroke over the back of hers.  “I don’t think I’m scared of committing to you.  Do you?”
Her breath caught in her throat, and suddenly this was less fun and light hearted, and more sincere, and heavy.  And his seriousness was starting to make her heart beat a little harder in her chest.  And gravity was weighing down on her, pinning her body to the blanket and shingles underneath her.  Tears welled in her eyes from the pressure of the situation she’d found herself in.
Richie’s thumb still caressed hers.
After a long moment, she finally shook her head, unable to find her voice.
“You alright?” He asked, “You look like you’re gonna cry”
(y/n) chuckled sadly, wiping at her eyes with her free hand.
“Sorry, you just… you’ve got me thinking about the future now” She told him, and the corner of his lip tugged into a smile.
“Gotta think about it at some point toots,” He said.  “Can’t stay here forever, seventeen, in Derry.  That’s a nightmare.  This place is a nightmare”
“Yeah, it is,” She agreed quietly, eyes wandering back up to the sky for a moment.  “Not all of it though” She added, eyes wandering towards Richie’s again, only to find his gaze fixed on her still.
He gave her that big dorky grin that she loved so much, and then laughed and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him.  Her smaller frame fit perfectly against his, and she let out a sign, content.  Perfectly content.
“Alright then, Tozier,” She hummed, shutting her eyes as she used his arm as a pillow.  “When do you want to start this adult life?” ___
Everyone was full from the abundant amount of food they’d ordered, and were relaxing together.  The awkward tension had fizzled out as Bill tried not to brag about his novels, Ben hopelessly flirted with Beverly, and Eddie complained about the smoking habit most everyone had.  No one could deny the hole in the conversation where Stanley was supposed to be, but they tried their best to remember him how he was, and honor his life.
And then came the hard part.  The part where Mike told them about the disappearances, about the numerous children that have gone missing.  Just like they had twenty seven years ago.
“It’s back,” Mike said solemnly, and suddenly the laughter died, and the seven of them went silent.  “It has to be Pennywise.  How else could fifteen children go missing in a week in Derry?”
(y/n) stared down at her hands in her lap, her fingers wringing together anxiously.
She wasn’t sure she could go through this again.  Her trauma had just gotten under control, as the years passed she remembered less and less of what happened, and that helped, but it could only do so much when every other thought she had tonight was a horrible memory of her life here.  It had taken so many kids when she was growing up, and once the Losers Club had figured out what was going on, she went to bed every night afraid It would take her too.  And that fear lasted for years, until she was finally old enough to strike out on her own.
It seemed the further away she’d gotten from Derry, the more distant the memories were too.
Finally, when it was too late to stick around and the owners were silently begging the group to leave, they started saying their goodbyes, and headed to the door to call cabs.
“Hey, toots, wait up,” Richie called while (y/n) was putting her coat on and making a bee-line for the door.  She paused, reluctantly, and then turned to look at him.  “You stayin’ at the hotel up the street?”
“It’s the only one in Derry… so… yeah”  She answered, quiet, and sheepish.
“Wanna split a cab?” He asked, and she didn’t know how to politely decline his offer, so she nodded silently, and he followed her outside.
November in Derry was relentlessly cold, and even in her coat, with her hands stuffed deep into it’s pockets, (y/n) was shivering, and bouncing on her feet in hopes of producing enough energy to keep warm.  While Richie was calling for a cab, she was watching her exhales visibly blow out in front of her.
“Alright, should just be a few more minutes” He told her as he stuck his phone back in his pocket.
“Hopefully sooner” (y/n) mumbled back, bringing her hands to her mouth, and cupping them together so she could blow warm air into them.
“So you’re still always cold huh?” Richie half joked.  “Nothing’s really changed then”
She looked up at him for a moment, but bashfully diverted her gaze when she saw him looking back at her, and decided instead to study her boots.
“Everything’s changed” She said quietly, shamefully.
She felt embarrassed that she’d done little to nothing to keep in touch with her friends.  Especially Richie.  But it felt even worse to realize that she’d just about forgotten them, replaced them, and created a new life in order to further stomp away the few good memories she did have in Derry.
“Yeah, I’ll bet it has” Richie replied soberly.
“And I know it has, because I have no clue what to say to you” (y/n) spoke in a whisper, her eyes round and full of sadness as she blatantly didn’t look at him.  But Richie wasn’t afraid of staring her down.
“Yeah,” He agreed.  “Me neither”
She finally met his eyes for more than two seconds, a sad sort of smile tugging on her lips.  He returned it, letting out a huff of a laugh.
“It’s really strange seeing you again, toots,” He told her, the old nickname never died, but it did sound more depressing than it once did.  “I uh… I can’t believe I almost…”
“Forgot about me?” (y/n) finished wistfully, eyebrows drawing upwards in a knowing manner.
Richie only nodded his head, and he was the one to stare down at his shoes now.
“Yeah…” (y/n) sighed, wrapping her arms around herself as she felt the coldness spread further throughout her body now.  “I mean, we were…”
“Who would’ve guessed it, huh?” He spoke sarcastically, kicking at the pavement of the sidewalk they were waiting at.
She looked at him again, at a loss of words.  It broke her heart to look at him now, to see how handsomely he’d grown up, knowing he had a whole life of his own now, without her.  And they’d once planned their life together.
“Cab’s here” Richie announced when a taxi rounded the corner.
They fell back into silence as it pulled up, and Richie got the door for her to get in first.  Always a gentleman, (y/n) thought to herself, before remembering the day he’d gotten into a mud fight with Beverly over something she couldn’t quite remember.  Well, always a gentleman with me.
She sighed contently as she relaxed in the back of the tobacco smelling cab, enjoying the hot air blowing, and rubbing her numb palms together to heat up quicker.
Richie hastily gave the driver the address, and again, it was silent.
When he let out a heavy breath, (y/n) looked over to see him fogging up the glass, and then drawing a smiley face.  She let out a laugh at the childishness, and he looked over at her with an amused smile.
Maybe not that much had changed.
When they got to the hotel, they split the pay, and Richie paid the tip, even though (y/n) argued to split that too.
They walked inside together, but stalled awkwardly in the hall by the elevators.
“I’m- uh, on the fourth floor” (y/n) said, though she wasn’t sure why.  He hadn’t asked, and she wasn’t trying to invite him to her room by any means.
“I’m on the second” Richie replied, bopping his head in a nod.  She felt relieved that he’d even responded, since she’d said something so weird.
(y/n) was mentally kicking herself, begging the elevator to get to the first floor faster, so she could go to her room and be alone sooner.  Probably to cry.  She guessed when she shut the door and was in privacy, the stress would overcome her and she’d have a mini breakdown.
“You want to go to the hotel bar for a couple drinks?” Richie spoke suddenly, just as the elevator doors opened.
It would be so easy to jump inside and press the fourth floor button and get the hell out of this situation that made her palms clammy and her knees weak.
“I’d love that” She said instead, a smile spreading across her lips that took away some of the nervous tension that blanketed the two of them.  He grinned back at her, and they abandoned the elevator to head back to the lobby. ___
After they each had a drink, it became easier to talk to one another.  And slowly the tension went away, and they could catch up about their lives.  (y/n) was eager to hear about Richie’s radio show, giggling when she realized that it probably had been his dream job.
“I should’ve known that you would find a job where you could keep all your voices,” She giggled, swirling the ice in her drink around with her straw.  “Probably talked more in them than in your usual voice”
“I’m not sure if I should be offended,” Richie declared in a british accent that he’d definitely gotten better at.  “But I’ll let it slide, since it’s you” He finished in his normal voice.
“Alright then,” She giggled softly before taking a drink.  “So, besides work, what else is new? What’s Los Angeles like?”
“Loud, full of angry people.  I love it.  You would’ve liked it-” Richie stopped himself with an awkward cough.  “At-at one time anyways, you would’ve liked it.  But you’re probably shacked up somewhere real nice in New York, huh? Big city?”
“It’s alright,” She shrugged a shoulder.  “I live in an overpriced studio apartment that I can’t afford, and can’t afford to lose” She told him, making him chuckle.
“A journalist in New York City,” Richie mused as he looked at her.
She looked so goddamn pretty, as always.  Her hair falling in messy waves around her shoulders, wearing a simple sweater and jeans, the coat she’d been wearing hanging off the back of her chair.  She’d angled the seat to be facing him rather the counter, giving him her undivided attention.  Well, him and the near empty drink in her hand.  She was smiling, that cute smile that he hadn’t realized he’d been missing for all these years.
“Told ya you were destined for something great-”
“Rich” (y/n) laughed, shaking her head shyly.
“What? That’s amazing!” Richie said proudly, and then in a softer and more sincere tone, “You’re amazing”
Her cheeks were pink, and she stared down at her drink so that he wouldn’t see her blushing, but he saw anyways.
“So, now’s the big question” Richie said, and she grinned back at him curiously, finishing her drink and flagging won the bartender for another.
“Shoot” She said, propping her elbow on the counter, and leaning her head in her hand while she studied him.
“What’s the boyfriend situation?” He asked boldly, and while the question made him nervous, her certainly didn’t show it.  He kept a straight but questioning face, raising a brow at the girl after she hesitated for a few moments too long.
“Uh.. no, actually,” She answered, and happily took the new drink from the bartender, just glad to have something to hold onto.  “You?”
“No boyfriends here” Richie grinned, and (y/n) chuckled but gave him a pointed look.  “Nah, you know me.  Dating isn’t my scene” He said, setting his beer bottle on the counter and watching her look skeptically at him.
“Dating isn’t your scene?” She repeated in a monotone of disbelief.  RIchie shrugged and nodded, but the smile on his face said that he knew otherwise.  “You tried to marry me, Rich” She reminded with a small laugh.
“Well, that was different,” He answered simply, but the girl’s brows furrowed and her lips parted in surprise as she shook her head.  “You were… you,” He clarified.  “But, I suppose you know that” He finished in a near mumble.  However, it did not clear up her confusion.
“Rich…”
“You don’t remember, do you?” He asked, and she shook her head, waiting for him to explain himself.  “That night I told you I wanted to marry you?” He suggested, hoping that she’d be able to remember.
He knew as well as the others that recalling memories of their childhood in Derry was the damn hardest thing to do.  But he was desperate for her to recall this one specific night.
After a few sips of her drink, and a troubled silence while she racked her brain, her eyes widened, and her head shot up to look at him, and he knew.  She remembered. ___
“Alright then Tozier,” (y/n) mumbled as she nuzzled her head on Richie’s arm.
The small affectionate action alone nearly made his heart burst out of his chest.  He figured she could hear it, or feel it even.  Her chest was pressed against his, she had to feel his wild heart beating against hers.  But if she did, she didn’t mention it.
“When do you want to start this adult life?” She finished, sleepy eyes meeting his.  The faint smile on her lips made them look so kissable.
“As soon as fucking possible toots,” He answered with his usual dorky grin.  “Whenever you’re ready to get outta here” He added in a more sincere tone.  I’ll just… follow you”
“You’re really gonna follow me wherever I go to school, and marry me?” (y/n) asked, swallowing the nervous laugh in her throat.
It was quiet for a moment, which was very unusual for Richie, but then again, everything about his friendship with (y/n) was unusual for him.
“Of course,” He told her, not an ounce of sarcasm in his voice.  “Anywhere you wanna go, as long as you’ll take me”
“Of course” She mimicked him, voice quiet, barely a whisper, but he still caught what she said.
“Well then, next year” Richie grinned, and (y/n) nodded in agreement.
“Next year” She repeated.
Richie smiled at her, eyes flickering over her features, admiring how pretty she was in the moonlight.  She was pretty in any lighting though.  His free hand, the one that wasn’t trapped from her lying on his arm, reached up to tentatively trace over her cheekbone, before pushing her hair back behind her ear.  He didn’t miss the way her cheeks turned rosey pink from the gentle action, but he knew full well that he had that effect on her.
“You trying to make me fall in love with you tonight?” She asked, in that soft sleepy voice that made his heart soar.  She practically whispered it against his lips, the words filling the short inch between them.
He wasn’t sure what it was exactly that brought him to do it, but the moment was there and he just couldn’t not kiss her.  Not with her looking at him like that, not with her laying so close.  He was just dying to do it.
So he did, he closed the space between them, and with the hand he still had on her cheek, guided her lips to meet his in a soft and sweet kiss.  So sweet, (y/n) couldn’t quite believe it was Richie Tozier kissing her.  She wasn’t sure he’d ever been this gentle, even with her.
They parted slowly, and her eyes fluttered open to see Richie smiling back at her.
“Don’t have to make you do anything toots,” He murmured, finally answering her question.  His thumb caressed over her cheekbone.  “You did that all on your own”
She let out a huff of a laugh, eyes flickering between his, trying to figure out if he’d meant that, or if it was just another one of his grand romantic gestures.  She didn’t find even a sliver of deception.
His tongue swiped over his bottom lip, and he chuckled a bit, making her brows knit confusedly.
Confusion seemed to be the theme of the night.
“You taste like fruit roll up” He told her, and they both burst out laughing.
“Shut up” (y/n) scolded between giggles, swatting at his chest affectionately.
“Mhm, make me” He said teasingly, leaning back in again, this time letting her be the one to initiate the kiss.  She’d wasted no time in doing so. ___
“Oh my god…” (y/n) murmured, staring at Richie with wide eyes, and he chuckled at the reaction.
“That forgettable, huh?” He joked, and she rolled her eyes.  “No… I know it’s this place that made you forget.  We all forgot stuff, you know”
“But that… I can’t believe… I mean-”
She cut herself off, shaking her head, a rush of embarrassment flooding over her.
“I know,” Richie told her, hoping she wouldn’t feel guilty about it.  He’d forgotten too, for a while anyways.  “But, we’re here now?” He suggested, in an attempt to lift her spirits.  “I’m staying here the rest of the week”
“Me too,” (y/n) said, a smile pulling on her lips before hastily finishing off her drink.  Richie watched with a startled expression as she drank the rest of her liquor, and set it back on the counter.  “Wanna go do something stupid?”
“I love a woman that’s forward” Richie laughed, and followed her out of the bar without question. ___
“You know.  When you suggested we do something stupid, this isn’t exactly what I thought you had mind” Richie said.
“What’d you think I meant?” She replied innocently, peering up at him from under her lashes.
“It’s just… so cold”
She giggled, poking his bare chest, and then turning back to face the pool in front of them.
The artificial blue waters reflected off the plain white walls and the slick tiles of the room, the only light there being the spotlights from outside that barely seeped in through the windows, and the moonlight reflecting off the waters.
It was probably one in the morning by now, and the pool had long been closed.  And they were standing at the edge of it, chilly in their underwear.
As she looked down at the seven foot deep end of the pool, (y/n) was reminded of standing on a cliffside, and peering down at waters a hundred feet below her.
“I dare you to jump first” She told him, too nervous that the water would be even colder than the air in here.
“What? No, I dare you to jump first” He responded, and all the drinks in his system started to show.
She giggled at him, shaking her head and then staring down at the water again.  She was starting to think that this wasn’t her best drunk idea.  If they got caught, they’d definitely get kicked out of the hotel, and there was no way she was going to stay at her parents’ house while she was in town.  She hadn’t even told them she was in Derry this week.
“Okay, maybe this was a bad idea” She muttered as her tipsy brain began to overthink the consequences of skinny dipping in a hotel pool in the middle of the night.
“Oh come on I didn’t raise you to be a pussy” Richie said, and before she could process what he was doing, grabbed her wrist and pulled her with him as he leapt off the edge of the pool and  cannonballed into the deep end.
She barely even had time to let out a screech before she was submerged in the freezing water.  She thrashed her legs around quickly to resurface, letting out a surprised gasp.  Richie came up moments after her, pushing his wet hair back off his forehead and laughing almost maniacally.
(y/n) playfully scowled, shoving her hands in the water at him, and splashing a big wave of water into his face.
“You’re the fucking worst!” She shouted at him, her voice and the sloshing water echoing loudly in the high ceilinged room.  Despite her scolding, she was laughing, and unable to contain the grin on her face.
Maybe it was the three drinks, maybe it was the joy of the risk they were taking just by being here.  But she was overcome with excitement and laughter as they got into a splash war.  The first one to be a baby and whine about the chlorine in their eyes loses.
“Ow!” Richie cried out.
He lost.
His fists were rubbing his eyes, and (y/n) stopped splashing him, trying to stifle her giggles as she swam closer to him while he rubbed his irritated eyes.
“You’re a baby,” She teased.  “Come on, I splashed you like- twice-!”
She was cut off by a screech when Richie suddenly splashed a huge wave of icy water, directly at her face, before grabbing her shoulders and shoving her under the water.
“You tricked me!” (y/n) gasped when she came above the water again, teeth chattering while Richie just laughed at how funny she looked with her hair stuck all over her face.
“You look like a fucking newborn” He gagged in between laughter, pushing her hair back behind her head.
“Fuck off” She chastised, a breathless laugh escaping her lips.
They were treading water pretty close to one another, and his hands were still cradled around her head.  Twenty seven or so years ago, he would’ve kissed her right now.  He probably wouldn’t have been able to help himself either, just like every other time he’d ever kissed her.
“Truce?” (y/n) asked, and he laughed, nodding his head, and taking his hands off her in order to shake her outstretched hand.
“Truce” He agreed.
They swam around a bit, every once in a while surprising each other by chasing the other.  At one point, while (y/n) was swimming away from Richie, he’d grabbed her by the ankle, taking the risk of getting kicked in the face, and tugged her back towards him.
She was drunkenly laughing at the action as his arms wrapped around her torso to trap her, proudly grinning that he’d won this round.  Her hands were pressed against his chest as she giggled up at him.  Her eyes twinkled the same way they used to when she laughed, whether sober or drunk, they always lit up.
“Humor me for a minute?” He asked, and she looked at him peculiarly before nodding her head.
“Alright”
“What do you remember?” He asked, and she blew a raspberry as she raked her mind for the memories that felt vivid enough to be real.
“I remember… the Barrens…” She said slowly, and drifted out of his arms.  “I remember jumping off the cliff in our underwear, and… and we found a turtle”
“That’s the most important thing you remember?” Richie scoffed, and she rolled her eyes at him.
“Shut up I’m thinking.  Can’t think when you run your mouth”
“Alright alright, continue” The trashmouth waved his hand dramatically for her to go on, and watched her smile as another memory came to mind.
“I remember Prom night,” She added, and he smacked his hand over his eyes, groaning with embarrassment, and making her giggle.  “Dancing with… uh… Eli? Eli Hopkins?”
“Fuck you” He muttered, but she continued.
“And you scared the shit out of him.  You were too chicken shit to ask me to Prom yourself, but had no problem making the poor boy terrified to tears over dancing with me!” She teased him while laughing loudly.
“Eli Hopkins was a- he was a fuckin’ prick! I saved you” He tried to be convincing, but (y/n) didn’t buy it.
“Uh huh,” She said with a scoff of a laugh.  “And I remember throwing our own after party, getting wasted and then… well we went to that chinese restaurant we were at earlier”
Richie nodded, recalling the memory perfectly.  It was the first time he’d witnessed (y/n) drunk off her ass, and as hilarious as it was, by the end of the night, he’d been genuinely scared for her.  That was when it dawned on him that maybe he didn’t just have a little crush.
“Oh! And I remember Street Fighter,” She said, a playful smile on her face.  “You were going to-”
“-train, yes, and I did! I was great” Richie finished for her in a serious tone that made her giggle.
“Yeah, and I’d just sit there and drink slushies until you were ready to leave to do something fun,” She reminded him.  “Who was I kidding, it was very entertaining to watch you play,” She added more lovingly then she had been.  “I remember the night on my roof,” She continued softly, and Richie could already tell she was going to bring up their more intimate memories.  “I remember you kissing me, for the first time,” She said, impossibly quieter.  Her voice wasn’t echoing anymore.
Richie swallowed thickly as she swam back closer to him so that she didn’t have to raise her voice to share these specific memories.
“And the second time,” She added with a breathless laugh.  “At the arcade, after you beat your high score,” Richie smiled back at her as she went on.  “And the third time, at… at…”
(y/n) trailed off, brows furrowing together as she tried to remember where they had been, the night that Richie ran up to her, took her in his arms, and kissed her as passionately as she’d seen in the movies.
“After graduation,” Richie told her.  “That night, after the ceremony and everything”
Today was the first day of the rest of their lives.  Their real lives, the ones they were going to start outside of Derry, and no one was more eager than (y/n) was.  She’d bragged for weeks about getting into a college in New York City.  Not because of the prestige of the school, or the flashy city, but because it was far enough away from Derry, and the boy-slowly-turning-man was going to come with her.
She hoped.
She hoped he remembered his promise, to follow her wherever she so chooses.  But it had been a year since he’d made that promise, and she wasn’t sure that being with her was what he still wanted.
It was no secret that the future was a scary thing to Richie Tozier.  He didn’t handle the unknown well, or the part of growing up that required him to be an adult and make adult decisions.
She went home alone after the ceremony.  After taking a picture with the rest of the Losers to commemorate their big day, they’d said their goodbyes and parted ways.  Surprisingly, Richie left on his own without another word.  Which was very out of character for him, everyone had just assumed he’d leave with (y/n).  Including (y/n).
So as she began listing out all the things she still needed to pack for New York, she tried her best to push away the troublesome thoughts.
What if Richie didn’t want to be with her anymore? No, they weren’t anything official, and he’d only kissed her twice, which they never really talked about, but it had to count for something.  They certainly weren’t platonic kisses.  Not to (y/n), at least.
And she hadn’t thought they were platonic coming from him, but maybe… maybe he just didn’t feel the same way she did.  They way she thought he did.
When her mother yelled up the stairs for her, she had completely stopped writing in her notebook.  After only writing ‘clothes’ and ‘buy laptop’.
“Someone’s outside for you!” Her mother yelled again, and (y/n) set her things aside to head downstairs to see which one of the Loser’s were surprise visiting her.
After how awkwardly they had parted at graduation, she didn’t expect to see Richie standing at the door.
“Hey,” She greeted, forcing a smile on her face.  “What’re you doing here?” The words weren’t malicious, more curious, but there was definitely and undertone of hurt in them as she crossed her arms.
“Wanted to… uh…” Richie brought a hand to the behind of his neck, nervously tangling his fingers in his hair, before rubbing the nape of his neck.  “See you” He finished lamely.
(y/n) let out a giggle that couldn’t have been contained if she tried, and leaned against the doorframe casually.
“Well, here I am,” She told him.  “So why are you really here? You’re a shit liar you know”
Actually, he was a great liar.  She just knew him so well now that she could read his body language like an open book.  And there was something he was anxious to tell her.
“I should apologize, about today, leaving without….” He wasn’t sure what to say.  He’d told her goodbye, what else would he have said or done? “For leaving” He finished.
His eyes squeezed shut before he hung his head, mentally beating himself up for how bad he was at this.
“We all left, why are you sorry for leaving?” (y/n) asked, ducking her head so she could be a bit more under him, since his head was hanging, now she could meet his eyes.  She gave him a gentle smile, that soothed him enough to lift his head back up and look at her normally again.
“I just am, alright? I feel like shit about it” He said defensively.  (y/n) shook her head at him, brows furrowing.
“Richie, you’re acting weird,” She told him.  “Even for you”
“Fuck it, I don’t even know what I’m fuckin’ doing right now” He muttered, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his jean jacket and spinning on his heel to get off her porch.  “I’ll see you later”
(y/n) let out a silent scoff as he started to walk away, off her porch and down the driveway.  Her and Richie rarely had awkward interactions.  They always clicked, they were always comfortable.  Whatever he wasn’t telling her, was really driving a wedge between them that she didn’t know how to un-wedge.
“Rich, wait!” She called, shutting the front door and heading down the few steps off her porch.  “What’s going on?”
He turned back to look at her, standing on the sidewalk now, while she was planted in front of the steps.  He threw his arms out in a helpless fashion, before letting out a heavy sign.
“I want to go with you!” He declared in a reluctant confession.  “Everywhere.  Anywhere, really, I just want to fucking go and- and be there with you”
(y/n) stared at him in shock.  Richie wasn’t the loud professions kind of guy, but here he was, yelling what excited and scared him the most in her front yard.
“You do?” She asked breathlessly, like she was scared he was going to take it back and leave.  “You’ll come with me? To New York?” Tears welled up in her eyes from relief and nervousness.
“I- Jesus fuck” Richie muttered, before heading back up to her through the dewey grass, practically breaking into a run as he got closer to her.
His hands seized outwards, cupping her face and pulling her against him as he slammed his lips down against hers, kissing her fully, and passionately.
This wasn’t like their other kisses.  This wasn’t a gentle kiss in the moonlight, or an excited thoughtless kiss.  This was purposeful, and conveyed everything they’d both been harboring for years now.
Her arms lazily reached up to rest her elbows on his shoulders, fingers toying with his hair as their lips met repeatedly and in sync with one another, sharing ardent kisses in between quick breaths.
“Of course I want to go with you,” He mumbled, lips brushing over hers, and then kissing her once more before pulling away to look at her.  “I fucking love you”
The tears in her eyes spilled over, streaming down her cheeks and running against Richie’s fingers and palms.  A barely audible breathless laugh left her lips.
“I fucking love you too” She whispered back, pushing his glasses up his nose for him before tightly wrapping her arms around him, pressing her lips against his, and then burying her face in his neck.
She remembered standing there for a long time, just crying and embracing as tightly as they had after they’d defeated Pennywise.  It would’ve been impossible to break them apart.
(y/n) stared at Richie for a long moment, blinking away the mist in her eyes.  He could tell she remembered, because she had that same look on her face that she did at the bar when she’d remembered their first kiss.
“The only thing that would’ve made that better would’ve been if it were pouring rain,” Richie said in a half assed joke.  They both laughed weakly.  “That’a been some real… real sappy shit”
“It was plenty sappy” (y/n) murmured, swimming just a little bit closer to him.  Close enough to tell he was squinting just a little bit without his glasses on, and for a moment she wondered just how blurry she was to him.
“Yeah, well,” Richie coughed, trying to break up the tension.  “You brought out the romantic part of me that I didn’t fuckin’ know existed” He laughed, but she smiled softly at him.
“I know,” She whispered.  “I… I bought tickets, bus tickets”
Richie stared down at the waters, watching his legs kick back and forth to keep him afloat.  This part of the memory ate him up inside, made him sick with nerves, and guilt.
“Two of them.  For New York”
He still wouldn’t look at her.
“I waited for you, at the station, begged the driver to wait a few more minutes, so many times”
As (y/n) continued talking, the memory kept coming back to her.  Until today, she’d had it in mind that she left Derry without looking back.  But she had looked back.  She’d looked all over the bus station for Richie that night.
“You never showed” She finished weakly.
Richie sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose and shaking his head at her.
“I…” He couldn’t even find the right words to say.  An apology seemed too small.  “I couldn’t… be there,” He said, only to shake his head again and try to find a better way to put it.  “With you.  In your dream.  You- you had a whole life ahead of you, waiting for you in New York, and that proved to be true”
“Richie…” (y/n) murmured sadly, knowing what he was going to say next.
“I didn’t want to get in the way of that.  I didn’t realize when I made you that promise that… I was imposing on your dream, while trying to live out mine”
She moved even closer to him, grabbing his hands under the water, squeezing them both securely.  Her lips quirked into half a smile as her eyes flickered between his.  He had to see her clearly now, seeing she was a mere few inches away from him.
“That was our dream,” She told him softly, sincerely.  “I would’ve given anything if you’d come to the station that day”
“Yeah,” Richie mumbled, looking down at the distorted water where she held his hands.  “And I’d give anything to go back and fucking run to the bus”
She giggled, and it was a sad sound, but it was still music to his ears.
“I fucked up” He said, and she nodded, unable to deny that.
“Yeah, you did,” She agreed, in a tone too sweet for the occasion.  “But… you also brought back memories I can’t believe I lost, so I’ll forgive you”
He grinned at her, and his hands grasped hers more securely to draw her in closer.
“It’s really great to see you again” He told her softly, and (y/n’s) legs slowed in their kicking to keep her afloat, making her lower a bit in the water until her chin rested at the surface.
“Great to see you too” She mumbled, eyes flickering back and forth between his repeatedly.  She could still read him as easily as she had when they were kids.  She knew he wanted to kiss her.  Hell, he probably knew she wanted to kiss him too.
“And you’re not married…” He added, one of his hands releasing hers to wander further down in the water, before settling on her hip and drawing her body against his completely.
“I’m not…” She said, brows crinkling in confusion at his comment.
“And neither am I,” He added, and she nodded, clearly not following.  “And I do believe we had a deal, toots”
She giggled, rolling her eyes at the idea of the marriage pact they’d foolishly, drunkenly-in-love made when they were seventeen.
“I see you for the first time in twenty seven years, and you still want to marry me?” She asked, only half teasing, as her hand settled on his shoulder, holding herself against him.  She didn’t want him to let go anytime soon.
“You’re the one that taught me to commit, sweetheart,” Richie reminded her, and his nose bumped into hers as he leaned down towards her a bit.  “Pretty sure I would’ve waited a hundred and seven years to marry you”
“You’re a fucking idiot, Tozier” (y/n) replied in a murmur, shutting her eyes as she nudged his nose to the side with hers, blindly searching for his lips.
They met with ease, the kiss so electric both were surprised the water didn’t fucking electrocute them to death.  Both of Richie’s hands gripped her hips while (y/n’s) hands played with the curly wet strands of his hair.  And as soon as that kiss ended, a second began, and all either of them could hear was their erratically beating hearts in their chests and the echo of the waters sloshing around, spilling over the edge of the pool and making the tile floors even slipperier.  With each connection of their lips, they became more desperate for more.
Perhaps to make up for time lost, or maybe just because they’d forgotten how good it felt.  And good was an understatement.
She whimpered a bit as she wrapped her legs around his hips, trusting him to keep them afloat while his hands roamed over her back, before tangling up in her hair.
When it got a bit too… steamy… to stay treading water in the deep end while making out, they parted just long enough to swim over to the wall, and (y/n) giggled as Richie pulled on her arm to bring her back to him, pressing her up against the edge of the pool, and caging her in with his hands on either side of her, holding onto the lip where the flooring jut out just a bit over the water.
“Much better” He mumbled, making her smile as he leaned down to kiss her again, fully, passionately, it was like their lips still molded perfectly against one another.
She let out a long sign through her nose as she loosely wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his body to be flush against hers under the water.
“This is my new favorite kiss” He told her, and she giggled against his lips, tilting her head back to look up at him.
“What was your favorite before?” She questioned.
“What was yours?” He shot back.
“I didn’t have one,” She laughed, “I personally ranked them all equally”
“Well, mine was the one on your roof” He answered, and she giggled again.
“Which one? There were like- fifteen that night-” She teased.
“Wow (y/n/n),” He replied, tone thick with sarcasm.  “You must really get around, huh?” He quirked an eyebrow at him, and she bit her lip to keep from grinning like too much of an idiot.
“No… no, I’m just a bit of a slut for you” She joked, and pathetically splashed water at his chest.  Richie laughed, shaking his head at her.
“Don’t say that,” He told her.  “God, that sounds awful, what’re you trying to make me out to be?” She continued to laugh, fingers curling into the hair at the nape of his neck.
There was nothing but adoration in her eyes, and as usual, Richie couldn’t help himself when he leaned down to kiss the tip of her nose, and then leave a peck on her lips as well.
“Coulda been kissin’ you for like thirty years,” He mused.  “I really am an idiot”
“Shut up, you’re gonna ruin the moment” (y/n) ordered, drawing his head down close to hers again.
“We’re having a moment?” He replied like a dumbass, and (y/n) just rolled her eyes before pressing her open mouth against his, which did the trick in shutting him up.
“Not if you keep running your mouth” She hummed, as she caught her breath, before sensually kissing him again.
“Hey! You two!”
The pair broke apart, but put no distance between them, even as a flashlight shone in their faces, effectively sobering them up the rest of the way.
“Pool’s closed, horny freaks,” The security guard muttered and shook his head.  “Get the hell outta here and back to your rooms before I go report you to my manager”
Richie cussed under his breath, but pulled himself out of the pool anyways, and turned to help (y/n) out as well.  The guard waited impatiently as they grabbed their clothes and towels, and scurried out of the room.
The corridors of the hotel were even colder than the water, and as they took the elevator to their floors, both of their teeth were chattering from the unforgiving air conditioning.
“Well that fucking sucked,” Richie grumbled.  “Guy totally ruined our moment”
(y/n) scoffed before giggling and swatting an arm at his chest.
The doors opened when they got to the third floor, and Richie dropped a kiss to her hair before stepping out.
“Goodnight, toots” He told her with a half-smirk half-smile that made her heart flutter, just like it used to.
“Night Richie” She murmured back with pink cheeks.
The doors began to close, and he began to head down the hall to his room.
However, before they could shut, and before the elevator could take her one floor higher towards her own room, (y/n) shot her arm out, triggering the sensor that made the door open again, and raced out onto the third floor hallway.
Richie turned around, a grin already growing on his face to see her standing there, looking surprised by her own actions.
“Can- can I stay-”
“Come on, toots,” Richie cut off her stammering, reaching his arm out for her to tuck herself under, and he kept his arm around her the whole walk down the hall.  “Let’s go” ___
As the sun seeped in through the cheap thin curtains, (y/n) stirred in her sleep, letting out a whine as she stretched her legs, inadvertently kicking another pair of legs under the covers.  Which earned her a playful groan and a chuckle from Richie Tozier, who she realized now had his strong arms wrapped securely around her middle.
“You awake, toots?” He muttered, lips brushing lovingly over her forehead as he spoke.  “Better be, ‘cause if you kick in your sleep you’re sleeping on the floor tonight”
The girl leaned her head back, peering up at him with half lidded sleepy eyes.  But the sun hit them just right, illuminating the (y/e/c) hues, and for a moment Richie was reminded of the stars.
“You’re that certain I’m staying here tonight?” She teased, fingers toying with the messy locks of hair that fell over his ears.
“Well, seeing as I checked you out of your room this morning…”
“You what?” (y/n) gaped at him, a surprised and tired laugh escaping her throat.  Richie shrugged guiltily, but the proud smile on his lips told her that he didn’t regret it one bit.
“Yeah, this morning,” He informed her.  “Took a lot of effort to get you fuckin’ off of me though.  You still death cuddle in your sleep”
“Shut up” She mumbled, wacking the side of his head lovingly before going back to playing with his hair.
“You know your entire body was on top of me?” He asked, and she rolled her eyes, not even sure she believed him.  “It’s like after you were done last night you just passed out-”
“Beep beep, Richie” She hummed with a pointed glare.  Although her cheeks flushed pink as she remembered the events of last night, after she’d followed Richie off the elevator, and into his room.
“I can’t believe I didn’t suffocate,” He went on dramatically.  “You coulda killed me woman!”
“And yet, you checked me out of my room so I’d stay here the rest of the week” She teased, and bumped the tip of her nose against his affectionately.
Richie smiled down at her, leaning in closer, but before connecting their lips he just had to run his mouth first.
“By the way, you have to get your stuff packed and outta there before noon”
(y/n) leaned backwards so he couldn’t have his satisfactory good morning kiss, brows furrowing.
“And what time is it?” She asked, watching him grumble before looking over his shoulder at the clock on the bedside table.
“Uh, 11:30”
(y/n) rolled her eyes, and shuffled out of bed.  Only then realizing she was only clad she in his mustard colored button down.
“Richie,” She sighed, gesturing downwards at the barely-covering-her-ass shirt and bare legs.  “Where are my pants?”
“What pants?” Richie played dumb, and she gave him a bored glare.  “The only thing I remember about pants was ripping them off-”
“Beep beep!” She squealed, already rushing about the hotel room in search of something that covered just a little more skin.  She found his tee shirt, which she threw at him, and her own shirt, which she just held on to.
What? She was already wearing a shirt.
“Did you hide them?” (y/n) asked, hands on her hips as she stared Richie down, where he still laid comfortably in bed.  Too comfortably.
“I told ya toots,” He grinned.  “Haven’t seen ‘em since I took em off ya”
Her brows furrowed as her eyes narrowed skeptically.
“Who knows?” Richie pretended to ponder it.  “Maybe I threw them out the window.  Legs like those shouldn’t be covered-”
“Alright.  So what you want right now, is for me to run out of here, pants-less, go up to my floor, pack my things and come back here to stay for the rest of the week, right?” She asked, done with the playful bullshit.
“That’s exactly what I want.  Yes” He agreed with a sly grin as he folded his hands over his stomach, watching her curiously to see what’d she’d do next.
“Fine” (y/n) huffed, and headed for the door.
“Well- wait- hold on toots,” Richie called, and she turned to look at him, hoping he’d just give in and get her the pair of jeans so that she didn’t have to do the walk of shame across the hotel.
(Not that there was anything shameful about what happened last night)
“You’re gonna leave without kissin’ me goodbye?” He asked, puckering his lips playfully.
(y/n) rolled her eyes, and action that Richie had grown quite fond of, seeing that it was almost always directed towards him, before tugging open the door and racing down the hall to the elevator.
The less people to see her in just a weirdly colored button-up, the better.
She made it into the elevator without any complications, and sighed in relief as it took her up the one floor to get to her room.  All she had to do now was run to her room, slam the door shut, and pull on a pair of jeans.  How many people could be up and about in the hallways anyways? It’s not like Derry was a destination overflowing with people-
“(y/n)?”
The doors opened on the fourth floor, revealing Eddie Kaspbrak and Ben Hanscom waiting outside of it, jaws dropped open and eyes wide with realization as they looked at the girl.
“Holy fuck you slept with Richie!” Eddie screeched, his joyous laughter echoing down the halls, before he suddenly cringed and groaned in a disgusted manner at the girl.  “Why?”
“Because they’re still in love” Ben cooed adorably.
(y/n) shook her head at the both of them, realizing just how much they hadn’t changed.
“Excuse me” She managed a mumble as she pushed past them, cheeks pink as she speed walked towards her room.
“Those two are still fucking digusting” She heard Eddie tell Ben before she got into her room and was finally able to shut the door and have some privacy.
And despite the teasing, it made her smile, because what Eddie thought was disgusting, (y/n) and Richie had waited a lifetime for.  This was their fate, finally coming true. ___
After packing up her things, putting on a pair of pants, and moving her bags into Richie’s room, the old gang headed into Derry with Mike, awaiting further instruction on how to defeat It.  For real, this time.
Much to everyone’s dismay, he’d told them to split up, to search for the artifacts they’d each left behind when they left Derry.
“Woah woah woah,” Richie spoke up, shaking his head almost comically fast.  “That’s probably the worst thing we could do right now!”
(y/n’s) hand grabbed his wrist calmly, and her thumb stroked over the soft skin to settle him down.
“For once, he’s fucking right.  Splitting up is how we die” Eddie agreed.
“You have to find it on your own,” Mike said.  “That’s how this works, it has to solely be yours”
Richie frowned deeply, but didn’t argue again.  Mike had spent the last twenty-seven years plotting, studying, trying to find a way to stop IT through hours, years, of research.  If he said this was the only way to do it, then it must be.
“Once you have them, meet back at the library, okay?”
Everyone nodded, and began to head off in search of their artifacts.
Richie however, tugged (y/n) back, and gave her a look she could only describe as lost.
“It’ll be fine,” She told him with a reassuring smile, her hand settling against his cheek.  “I’ll be fine,” She clarified.  “And you will too.  It’ll only be a few hours, and I’ll see you at the library, alright?”
“I hate this” He muttered, and she giggled softly.  Richie took her hand from his face, holding it delicately in his.
He gazed at the matching scars in the palms of their hands before looking back at her again.
“Be safe?” He spoke in the form of a question, and she nodded.
“And you don’t be stupid.  I mean it this time”
“This time?”
“Could never stop you from doing stupid shit before” She teased, and pulled her hand out of his as she turned to leave the woods.  “See ya in a bit-”
“Hey! No goodbye kiss? Again?” He complained, and she grinned back at him.
“You can have it after your special mission,” She mocked.  “I’ll see you at the library, Tozier” She added before finally heading off in the direction of town.
She had a pretty good idea of what her artifact would be.  She just wasn’t totally sure how to get to it. ___
The (y/l/n) household looked the same as it had twenty seven years ago, if not a little more run down.
As she stood in front of her childhood home, (y/n) couldn’t hide the grimace on her face.  Countless memories of the suffering she’d gone through growing up in that house.  From her neglecting parents, to the nights she’d spent crying herself to sleep after being plagued with nightmares, her house was her least favorite part of Derry.  And it was supposed to be a safe haven.
She could have walked up to the door, greeted her parents, and then went up to her room to retrieve the artifact, sure.  It would have been relatively easy.
But she didn’t want to see her parents.  She wasn’t ready, and somehow, it seemed easier to scale up the side of the house to her bedroom window, and sneak in as quietly as she could, rather than have to face the people who raised her.
As she struggled to force open the window, she wondered how Richie had managed to creep in all those years ago.  He’d done so every night, how the hell did he get himself all the way up to the second floor?
Finally, the plane cracked as the worn wood gave out, and (y/n) was able to the window upwards and open.  She cheered silently to herself as she crept inside her bedroom.
She left a considerable amount of things behind.  Her bed was still against the same wall, and her desk and dresser on the opposite side.  There were a few boxes of things that she’d left behind to be donated, but it appeared her parents had never taken them to the donation center.
Actually, the more she looked around, she wondered if her parents ever even came into her room.  It looked untouched, dusty, and not a single thing had been moved since the last time she’d been here.
She curiously looked over the photos she and Richie had taped onto one of the walls, a collage of the Loser’s Club.  Polaroids of the gang at the quarry, in their Halloween costumes, at school dances, regular ones from sleepovers.
But in the center of them all, she’d plastered one right overtop of a picture of Bill on his bike, with Bev holding onto him from behind.  She’d covered it with a picture from Richie.
The photo was a blurry one of the two of them, (y/n) sitting on his lap, on Eddie’s couch, she thought.  Her hands were on his cheeks, shoving them together adorably and making his lips pucker.  She was grinning down at him, and despite his mouth being forced into looking like a fish, she could tell just by looking at the picture that he was smiling back.  Ben had taken the picture, she remembered.  And she remembered Richie giving it to her.
She carefully pulled the polaroid off the wall, fingers stroking over the delicate image, before flipping it over.
It was still there.  The note.
In his typical messy handwriting, he’d written her a little note on the back of it before thrusting the picture towards her for her to take.
Stay adorable, sunshine.
And a little heart scribbled underneath it.
(y/n) found herself giggling as she looked at it, the same giggle she’d let out the day Richie had given it to her.
This was her artifact, she knew it, she could feel it.
She carefully tucked the precious photograph in her pocket, eager to get back to the library to show the others.
Just as she was halfway out her window, a voice whispered to her.
“(y/n)? Sweetheart, is that you?”
A shiver ran down her spine.  Her mother’s voice hadn’t aged a day.
She was frozen in the windowsill, staring with wide eyes at the closed door.  There were footsteps on the stairs, and she could see a shadow walking beneath the crack of the door.  If she didn’t move now, she’d be caught.
“My little girl?” The voice called again, but this time it was distant, and distorted.  “Is it really you?”
Her heart pounded in her ears, absolute fear in her bloodstream as all she could do was watch as the door suddenly swung open, revealing her mother.
Except, it wasn’t her.
It was her body, with torn, yellowing skin.  Once dull (y/e/c) eyes glazed over with a milky film.  Saliva dripping past rotting teeth, and over pale lips.
“My child,” The thing that wasn’t quite her mother called, and (y/n) let out a guttural scream as It raced right towards her.  “You’ve come home! Back to mama!”
“No- No!” She screamed, and It took a few taunting steps towards her.  Close enough that the stench of rotting flesh wafted into her nose.
And as quickly as It had stepped towards her, it’s limbs bending and snapping unnaturally, as It took a different shape.  A new shape, that was also vaguely familiar.
Her father.
“It’s about time you came home…” He drooled all over her carpet, and if she wasn’t so overcome by fear, she probably would’ve thrown up.  “It’s been so long, your mother just about died.  But now you’re here.  To stay”
Her breath caught in her throat, swallowing a scream and in turn letting out a whimper.
“No-! No you’re not- this isn’t- you’re not real!” She squealed, and forced her legs to swing out the window.
“Not real enough for you?” The gnarled voice of her supposed father asked, and slowly, the parts of him that were torn, the glossy eyes, and the drooling lip, disappeared.  And just like that, it looked just like her father, the one she’d known as a child.
She wasn’t sure if this was worse than the zombified version.
“Stay!” He surged forward, snatching (y/n) by her wrist.  “Stay and float”
At that, she found her voice and screamed again, yanking with as much force she could to get her arm out of it’s dirty grasp.
“Stay and float! Stay and float! Stay and float!”
As it continued to screech it’s mantra, his voice became more and more deeper, louder, monstrous.  And she was afraid she’d have to risk getting her arm ripped off just to get out of it’s hold.
He threw his head back, a disgusting shriek escaping it’s throat as it’s jaw unhinged, and the body took on a new form.
“Come on toots,” An all too familiar voice took over.  “Stay and float”
It took all of her fear and willpower to get away in order for (y/n) to muster up the courage to swing her leg in through the open window, kicking not-Richie’s jaw with a loud and unpleasant crack against her boot.
It stumbled backwards, finally releasing her arm as it did, and collapsed inside the bedroom.
Because of the force of her kick, and because of It letting go of her hand, she stumbled onto the roof, and rolled backwards off of the slope of shingles.  Landing back down flat on the dewey ground with a thud and a groan.
She whined as she just laid there for a moment, processing (as best as she could with the wind knocked out of her) what had just happened.  From It attacking her, to falling off the roof.
Richie was gonna love to hear about the latter.  He’d fallen off her roof countless times when they were kids, in failed attempts to sneak out of her room.
With a wheeze she pushed herself to sit up, wiping off the grass and wetness from the sleeves of the ugly button up she still wore.  After getting used to being in an upright position, she forced herself to stand, huffing and puffing and mumbling profanities.
Her hand subconsciously hovered over her back pocket, pulling out the photograph and panted out a ‘thank fuck’ seeing that it wasn’t too damaged from the encounter.  Just a little bent at the edges.
A rush of adrenaline surged through her, and for the first time since coming back to Derry, she truly believed they could defeat It.  The Losers could win this. ___
“Hello?” She called out into the library, eagerly running in and searching for the others.
She held the polaroid in her hands firmly, glancing around the aisles of books, but judging by the lack of response, she figured that no one was back yet.
She had known right away what her artifact would be, so perhaps the others were still on the search for theirs.
She began to wander amongst the shelves, curiously admiring the very old looking books on them.  But in a small town like Derry, it wasn’t too surprising that they hadn’t gotten anything new in the last thirty years.  Or by the looks of it, one hundred and thirty years.
Just as she was about to actually pick out a book to pass the time, she heard a muffled noise, which sounded all too much like someone struggling to just be the old building settling.
Her instincts told her to call out to see if anyone was there, but her history with terror told her to keep quiet, and follow the noise to see what was going on.
She crept on the tips of her toes down the aisle, and again, a definite ‘hmph!’ could be heard.  She surely wasn’t alone in the library.
Peeking her head around a shelf, she was certain that this was where the intruder was.
Her heartbeat spiked, seeing him there.  He had aged horribly, as expected, but something about him still had that terrifying ‘Henry Bowers’ vibe.
It was probably because he held Eddie in a prison-like grasp, a hand clamped over the hypochondriac’s mouth, and his other hand pressing a knife dangerously close to his neck.
(y/n) could see there was already a stab wound on his cheek, covered by a small square of gauze.
“(y/n)? Is that really you sweetheart?” Bowers asked, tongue licking over the front of his yellowing teeth in a sultry manner that made her shiver and grimace at once.
“Let him go, Henry,” She muttered, and tucked her photograph in the back pocket of her jeans.  “You can still walk away from this.  Walk away”
“Whatcha got there?” He asked, ignoring her completely.  “Somethin’ sentimental? Hm? Somethin’ that’s gonna save your sad little lives? Aww…” He mocked, and shoved Eddie forward with him as he stepped closer to the girl.  “Give it to me and I won’t fuckin’ slit his throat”
Eddie let out a whimper, muffled against Henry’s clammy palm.
“Not a goddamn chance” She said, voice clear, hands curling into tight fists.
There was a time that Henry Bowers could’ve threatened her into doing anything, but that was a lifetime ago, and she wasn’t afraid of his pathetic ass any more.
“Now let him fucking go”
“So pitiful.  Always so naive, bitch” Henry said, and took his hand off of Eddie’s mouth to grab him by the back of his shirt, still holding a knife to his neck.
“You alright?” (y/n) murmured to Eddie while he sucked in deep breaths.
“He smells so fucking bad” He muttered back, and (y/n) chuckled, and gave him a certain nod.  A nod that told him that he needed to make a move to distract Henry, and get that knife away from his neck.
The idea of fighting against a crazed man with a knife petrified Eddie, but he trusted (y/n), and right now, he trusted her with his life.
So before he could chicken out, he kicked his foot backwards, effectively swinging his foot right between Bowers’ legs.  This distracted him just long enough that Eddie could run away, and (y/n) grabbed his arm to pull him with her faster, towards the library doors.
“He’s still fucking alive?” She screeched as they ran, and Eddie fumbled for his inhaler in his pocket.
“Yeah, and he’s still a fucking psycho!” He replied, taking two puffs of proventil.
The doors were just in sight, they were just a few quick strides from the exit.
But out of seemingly nowhere, (y/n) was ripped away from Eddie, and thrown against the ground.  She groaned aloud as her head slammed into the floor, leaving a bruise where a bump would later rise.
“I’m tired of you fucking running away!” Henry screamed down into her face, making her wince and shut her eyes, shuffling as much as she could to get away from his knife that was threateningly pointed at her.  “I’m gonna fucking kill you this time” He muttered, raising his arm with the knife, and (y/n) held her arm over her face to brace for the sharp impact.
However, she barely felt the swipe across her cheekbone, before there was nothing.
She dared herself to open her eyes, lowering her arm just as the weight of Henry Bowers fell off of her, a metal beam shoved into the back of his skull.  She let out a squeak of disgust at the gruesome sight.
Just as quickly as she felt sick to the stomach, she was flooded with relief to see Richie standing over her, panting heavily and staring wide eyed from Henry’s corpse, then down to her.
“Holy shit,” He muttered, mostly to himself, and took (y/n’s) hand to help her off the floor.  “Are you alright?”
She could only manage a shaky nod, her hands grasping his wrists, and her hold tightening on him the longer she held him, the reality of the situation settling in.  She could’ve died.
“I killed him?” Richie half asked her, and she nodded again, glancing for half a second at the body on the ground.  “I fucking killed him” He breathed out, both surprised, and a little proud.
He was beginning to smile, before he abruptly ripped himself away from (y/n) and threw up the contents of his stomach on the floor.  Apparently reality had just settled in with him too.
“Oh my-” (y/n) gasped at Richie’s violent puking.  She turned her head away, but patted a comforting hand on his back.
Mike, Ben, and Beverly came into the library a few moments later, all groaning and shrieking at the sight of Henry Bowers’ body on the floor, a pole through his skull.
The day had just started, and there was so much to catch up on, and so much left to do.
But for now, they had to go get Bill before he stupidly walked into Neibolt alone. ___
Richie’s hand had never held (y/n’s) so tightly.  His heart dropped to his stomach as soon as they’d stepped foot into the (definitely haunted) house, and his hand had instantly shot out and grabbed hers.
For her or himself, he wasn’t sure.  But they were both grateful for it in the moment.
“It’s just like last time” (y/n) mumbled, shining her flashlight all over the floor in front of her.
“If you thought that was romantic, it wasn’t” Richie replied, giving her a small smile, that she weakly returned.
If her heart wasn’t about to beat out of her chest right now, she might’ve even laughed.
After a horrible encounter with a creature designed from Stan’s corpse head, and having to swim through greywater to get to the tunnel, her heart only beat harder, and louder.  Fear and adrenaline mixing together in a toxic concoction that made her swear she could feel her blood pumping.
She peered down the tunnel, afraid to even trust the rocky walls of it to climb down, much less what was on the other side.
Mike had already hoisted himself down, and Ben followed shortly after.  (y/n) was the next closest to the opening, so she knew it was her turn.
“You’re alright,” Richie told her as she tied her flashlight around her wrist.  She nodded, wanting to believe him, but her eyes were full of tears, and her bottom lip quivered a bit.  “I’ll be right behind you, okay? It’s gonna be fine”
With a kiss on the cheek, she believed him a little more, nodding again, and then slowly lowering herself into the well.
Her hands shook as she grabbed the jutted out rocks, but she didn’t slip up the whole way down.  And when she finally landed on her feet, in a cave beneath the town of Derry.
Richie dropped down a few short minutes after her, and wrapped his arm around her waist, tugging her against his side almost comfortingly as they waited for the others to come down.
“What’d I tell ya?” He said with a dopey grin down at her.  She let out a small laugh, and for a moment, leaned her head against his chest.
Her cheek had stopped bleeding, and while the cut that Henry Bowers had made wasn’t deep, it looked awful.  Dried blood smeared over her pretty skin, dirtying it.  Richie made a mental note to help her clean that up later.
“Yeah yeah, you’re always right,” She muttered, looking up at him again.  “Thanks for saving my life earlier”
“Yeah, I’m a real hero, huh?” He said with a heavy sign, and she swatted at his chest with the back of her hand, and then wandering a little further into the cave, exploring the path they’d have to take to get to their final destination.
The journey continued as Eddie was the last to come down the well.
And after what felt like hours of walking, it was obvious when they reached the place they were looking for.
“Alright, quickly now!” Mike called, running up to the large rocky structure in the vast open space.  Rocks jutted out from the ground, almost forming a crown in the cave.
The others followed behind him, and watched as he placed the pyramid on the ground, filled it with lighter fluid, and set it on fire.
“Okay, now place your artifacts inside” He instructed.
Bill was the first to pull his out, a paper boat, with neat handwriting on it’s side that read S.S Georgie.
Then Beverly, a taped-together postcard that she didn’t really share about before adding it to the fire.
Next was Eddie, who threw in his old inhaler, but not before taking a puff from it first, making everyone cringe.
Richie threw in an arcade token without a word.  And when Eddie called him out for having an artifact that would take forever to burn, he snapped back at him.  No one asked any questions about it.
Ben added a piece of paper to the fire, which he admitted was a page from his yearbook, and the only signature on it was Beverly’s.
(y/n) was next, and she reluctantly pulled the polaroid out of her pocket, gazing down at it lovingly, and smoothing her thumb over the bent corners.
“Is that…?” Ben peered over, grinning to see that the picture he’d taken all those years ago, as a joke about how much (y/n) and Richie cuddle, was still in near perfect shape.
“Wow,” Richie mumbled, reaching out to hold one side of the polaroid, as (y/n) held the other.  “Look at that”
He turned it over, curious to see if his message had faded away.  But there, in black sharpie ink, written in his handwriting, Stay adorable, sunshine.  A sloppy heart scribbled underneath.
She grinned bashfully up at him, before a sadness settled on her features as she looked at the fire.  Richie squeezed her hand, as if to tell her it was okay, she could throw it in.
“It’s uh…” She cleared her throat, hand a bit shaky as she held the picture over the fire.  “It’s the one thing I should have brought with me but… didn’t”
With that, she dropped the photo into the fire, and watched edges curl up and turn black, before the flames ate it up.
Mike held up a rock, painted with what had to be blood.
“Do you remember this, Bev?” He asked, a knowing smile on his face, and her own features lit up as the memory replayed in her head.  “It’s the rock that hit Bowers” He said, looking at it, and admiring what it had done for him all those years ago.  It had saved his life.
He tossed in the rock, and the flames erupted even larger, brighter.
And above them, a portal, of sorts opened up.  (y/n) got a glimpse of bright orange streams of light before Mike hollered for everyone to look away from the deadlights.
She had more trust in him than she had curiosity in the lights, and was quick to look downwards, pressing her hand over her eyes for safe measure.
Richie’s hand grabbed her free one, pulling her closer, and even closer when the power of the deadlights going into the pyramid was blowing harsh winds all around them.
The ground began to shake as the orbs were completely submerged inside the pyramid, and (y/n) pressed her face completely against Richie’s chest, holding him tightly and fearfully.  She wasn’t sure what was happening, or when it was safe to look.
But things settled down, the winds stopped, the ground stilled, and slowly, everyone cautiously peeked their eyes open.
Mike was quick to slam the lid over the pyramid, trapping the deadlights inside.
“We did it?” Bill breathed out, unsurely.
“It’s gone?” Richie asked.  “Just like that?”
“We did it,” Mike said, a tired grin tugging on his lips.  “We did it, we trapped the lights”
Everyone seemed to smile, and let out sighs of relief.
(y/n) pulled away from Richie only to reach up and eagerly press her lips against his, hands splaying across his cheeks, and grinning even wider as she pulled away.  He took her in his arms, lifting her off the ground as he hugged her enthusiastically.
“We fucking did it!”  He cheered, even spinning the girl around before setting her back down.
Their moment was short lived, as they were soon joined by Pennywise, who mocked their efforts at defeating him, and released the deadlights from the pyramid.  And if that wasn’t enough to make their fear settle in their bones again, he grew about a hundred feet, taking on the leg form of a monstrous spider, and chased them amongst the rocks with crazed laughter.
Richie haphazardly reached out for (y/n), and pulled her with him behind a tall rock that should keep them out of It’s view for a few moments, which was all he needed.
“Listen to me, are you listening to me? Listen,” Richie instructed hastily.  “We dont- we don’t have much time-”
“What?” (y/n) said, urging him to hurry up before Pennywise rounded the corner and was able to see them.
“First chance you get, you run the fuck out of here-”
“Richie no-!”
“Promise me, fucking- swear to me, that if you get the chance you fucking book it, okay?” He pleaded, but she shook her head back and forth, tears welling in her eyes as Richie continued to beg her.  “Swear to me- do it (y/n) swear”
“I- I can’t” She whimpered.
“You can, please, please.  If you stil love me just- just fucking promise me you’ll get the hell out of here, and get safe,” She cried harder, a small gasp departing her lips as her throat burned with tears.  “I need you to be safe, okay?”
He peered around the rock, seeing Pennywise nearing where they were hiding, and then turned quickly back to (y/n).
“Richie I can’t leave- I’m not leaving you again,” She wept, tears flowing down her cheeks.  “Please don’t make me-”
“I’ll be there with you as soon as I can,” He promised, cupping her cheeks in his hands.  “I swear it, alright? I just need you to swear to me you’ll get out of here”
“Rich” She cried, squeezing her eyes shut tight, and for a mere second relished in the feeling of the pads of his thumbs swiping away her tears.
“Do you understand me?” He spoke after a moment, and she nodded, albeit reluctantly.
Her sad eyes met his, and they alone told him everything that she needed him to know.  He gave her a bittersweet smile, before drawing her face in close for him to press his lips in the space between her eyes.
“I love you,” He murmured before pulling away.  Just as she opened her mouth to speak, Richie could see that It was even closer, and he pushed her away from him.  “Now go!”
She let out a cry as she was forced out of his hold, and the tears started up again as she made a bee-line towards the entrance of the cave they’d come in through.
She made it through the passing just before It was able to spot her, and hid under the rock as she watched It pass, and Richie ran from his hiding spot to another.
Her hands had been shaking, and she couldn’t get herself to move, even though at this point, she probably would get away.  But looking at the Losers, her friends, all running about the cave and trying to hide before It could grab them and terrorize them, she couldn’t go through with it.
Her eyes caught Richie’s, who began to shake his head, already knowing what she was thinking.  She gave him a sad smile, and realized she wasn’t shaking anymore.
She wasn’t afraid.
Richie shook his head again, waving his arms around in an ‘x’ sort of motion, desperate for her to listen to him.  To turn around and start running.
‘I’m sorry’ she mouthed, and wiggled out of the crevice.
“(y/n)! No!” The scream Richie let out echoed over the sounds of Pennywise’s snapping jaws and clattering crab-like legs.
She wasn’t afraid, but he certainly was.
She scaled up to a cliffside that was jutted out from the cave’s wall, collecting as many rocks as she could and beginning to throw them with all the force she could muster.
And if their lives weren’t at stake, he would be proud and cheering her on as she began to launch rocks at It.  But instead, his heart was beating erratically with fear as he watched her do something so reckless.
Nevertheless, he ran up to her, and joined her in pelting the monster with the largest rocks they could lift.
“You’re stupid! You’re insane!” He yelled at her, but she just gave him a wide grin, and shrugged her shoulders, before heaving up a rather large rock, swinging low so she could throw it as high as she could.  It landed with a loud ‘thunk’ ‘crack’ against Pennywise’s skull, and he screeched as the area began to crack, blood pooling upwards.
“Well where do you think I picked it up from?” (y/n) asked teasingly, hands dropping to her knees as she bent over and heaved.
She only had a moment to catch her breath before Pennywise whirled around, and the small moment of victory was gone in an instant.
It’s large crooked leg knocked her off the cliffside she stood on, and sent her tumbling down to the ground below.  Richie shrieked, scurrying to get down to her, but in his haste his eyes went upwards, landing on the blue circling orbs, and he was trapped in the deadlights.
(y/n) pushed herself up on shaky arms, spitting out blood and wiping haphazardly at her mouth to get the excess blood off her lips.  As she got up, her eyes caught Richie, floating above her, staring with dull eyes at whatever Mike had told them not to look at.
“Richie!” She screamed, and despite her legs feeling like jelly, she shoved herself upwards and ran towards him, hoping if she jumped high enough, she could grab his leg and pull him down to her.  “Richie! Come on!” She pleaded, eyes welling with tears as she tried, and failed, over and over again to grab onto him.
“(y/n)! Look out!” Eddie blared, just in time, as It came running towards her, reaching greedy hands down towards her body.
“Come on toots,” It’s voice was deranged and she hated the way her special nickname sounded coming out of it’s clown painted mouth.  “Don’t you wanna float with your lover?”
She scrambled away as quickly as she could, but It was so close behind her, she was bound to be snatched right up.
“Help!” She screamed, begging her legs to move faster, but sure enough, a large hand wrapped around her torso and picked her up like she was a doll.
She screamed, throwing her fists against the back of Pennywise’s gloved hand, as though it could cause any damage anyways.  The higher he pulled her upwards to his face, the more she realized she didn’t actually want him to let go of her.  A fall at this height was bound to kill her.  So eventually, she stopped hitting his hand, and instead clutched onto the silk glove to keep her secure.
“You’ve caused quite some trouble” It spoke angrily, leaning in close so she could see it’s bright orange eyes.
“There are other ways to make him feel small!” Mike shouted.  “You have to make It feel small!”
Her eyes darted from the man on the ground, back up to the large figure that held her captive in it’s hand.
“I’m not afraid of you,” She declared, voice clear, and candid.  For a moment, she swore It’s face twitched with a wince.  “You’re just a clown.  You’re not fucking scary.  And I’m not scared of you!”
It snarled, baring it’s endless rows of razor sharp teeth as it roared right at her face.  She screamed, suddenly very afraid that this was how she died, that she’d be just another one of it’s snack-turned-victims.
But just as she thought she was going to be thrown into It’s mouth like a potato chip, the roaring ceased, as a long metal spear had been thrown into it’s exposed throat, ripping through to the otherside.
Her eyes widened at the gruesome sight, and It stumbled backwards, dropping her body in the process.  She screamed as she fell, but was silenced as soon as she hit the ground.
“Oh my- fuck! (y/n)!” Eddie ran over to her, helping her sit up and make sure she hadn’t hit her head too hard.  “Did you see that!? Did you see what I just fucking did!?” He cheered for himself, but his voice was merely a distant echo in (y/n’s) ears.
“Wh- what about Richie?” She mumbled, rubbing her head as she looked over to see him falling from where he was floating.  “Is he- oh my god”
Her legs shook, so much so that she kept on tripping and falling as she made her way over to where Richie laid, and eventually her knees completely gave out, and she collapsed at his side.
“R-Richie?” She shook him, afraid to see his eyes shut as he laid there, almost lifelessly.  “Richie!?” She yelled now, grasping the material of his shirt in her hands as tears built up and burned her eyes.
He gasped, head shooting up for a moment before falling back down against the rock.  He took in deep breaths and stared at her with wide eyes, not sure what had just happened that had knocked him out.
“You’re okay, you’re okay?” She repeated herself, hands moving rather quickly over his face, both comforting him and inspecting for any blood or injuries.
“Yeah, I’m alright,” He wheezed, and (y/n) took his face in her hands, a cry of relief coming from her throat.  She was smiling, but still crying.  “You gotta stop crying today toots, I don’t have the time to kiss all those tears away” He teased, and pushed himself to sit up on shaky arms.
“Shut the fuck up” She whimpered happily, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him to sit up the rest of the way so she could hug him as tightly as possible.
Her hands grasping at his hair, and then his shoulders, and then the back of his shirt, anything she could hold.  Richie buried his face in the crook of her neck, arms encircling her torso and squeezing her tight against him.
“God, Rich,” She mumbled, pulling away from him to look at his face.  His glasses were a bit cracked, and there was a nasty bruise along his cheek, a little bit of blood trickling down his forehead from his hairline.  “You look like shit” She giggled, carefully wiping away the blood with her thumb.
“Yeah yeah, real hot coming from you” Richie said, silently counting the cuts and bruises littered over (y/n’s) face.  The cut from Bowers, a bruise at her temple, a slightly blackening eye, bloody nose, split lip, she was a mess.
It hurt to smile, but she couldn’t help it.  One of her hands shakily racing to place her palm against his cheek.  The expression on her face something that made Richie want to both cry and hold her in his arms for as long as possible.
“Richie…” She mumbled.  “I-”
The world stuttered in it’s timeline, it had to have, because what happened next, Richie was certain it was in slow motion.
A large claw protruded through (y/n’s) chest, making her words stutter to a stop, and slowly, she bowed her head down to see that it was, in fact, It’s razor sharp leg.  Impaled clean through her back.
“(y/n)!” Richie’s scream was blood curling, but all she could hear in that moment was white noise, eyes trained on the wound in her chest.  She was frozen in fear, and the realization that she was going to die here hit her like a truck on the highway.
Her chest suddenly felt very warm, and as It retracted the claw that had pierced through her whole body, she realized it was because of the fresh blood streaming out of her body, dampening her clothes in a soggy red.
Richie’s hands were fumbling over the wound as Pennywise’s claw was retracted, and the other Loser’s were screaming insults at it to finish the job.  Meanwhile, Richie carefully laid (y/n) down over his lap so she’d be more comfortable.
“(y/n), no… no no no, sweetheart, hey,” Richie cooed quietly, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill over.  “Hey it’s alright, you’re alright, we’ll get you out of here real soon-”
“Richie,” She whimpered, taking his bloody hand away from her face, and intertwining his fingers with hers.  “Listen to me”
Her voice was small, but she needed him to stop his rambling so he could hear her.
“Listen- listen,” She mumbled, gathering what little strength she had to squeeze his hand.  “It’s okay”
“No-! No, no it isn’t it’s not fucking okay-”
“Richie,” She cried, one tear rolling down her bloody cheek.  “I’m okay, I’m gonna be okay,” She was lying through her teeth, just trying to calm him down even if it was just for a moment.  “You’ll be okay”
He shook his head, tears falling freely now, but he didn’t cut her off.
Thi couldn’t be happening, not now, not after he just got her back.  He just got her back, last night.  And they’d had a wonderful time together, they clicked just like they had back then.  He’d gotten to kiss her again, hold her again, love her again, how could this happen? How could she be ripped away from him so soon? This wasn’t fair this wasn’t fair this wasn’t-
“I love you,” She whimpered quietly, sad to even say it, given the circumstances, but she knew she had to.  For both of their sakes.  “Okay? I love you, I always did, okay?”
I told you to run, why didn’t you run away? Why didn’t you listen?
It wasn’t fair.  But there was no changing it, there was no way for him to fix it, and that’s what broke him the most.
There was no saving her.
“Okay,” Richie mumbled back.  The finality of their situation could be heard in the one word he spoke.  It was a goodbye.  Holding her hand tightly in his, and his free hand stroking her hair out of her face to keep it from getting stained with blood, he nodded his head a bit down at her.  “Okay.  I know, toots”
It was quiet for a minute as she tried to hold back her tears, for him.  SHe could feel her heart slowing, and most of her body had gone numb in shock.  All she could really feel was Richie’s hand tightly holding hers.  She hoped that when the time came, he’d let go.  Begged whoever was up there to help him let go.
“Hey,” Richie called softly, hastily wiping at his wet eyes with the back of his hand.  “(y/n) (y/l/n)”
“Richie Tozier?” She replied weakly, confused.
“Will you marry me?”
The question was so soft, she almost didn’t catch it.
A cry left her lips as she nodded, unable to hide her tears from him any longer.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” She mumbled.  “Yeah, I’ll marry you”
Her whimpers broke his heart, but he smiled gently down at her nonetheless.
“Alright then toots,” He whispered, and stroked her hair back again so he could lean down to her, and kiss her forehead with a featherlight touch.
She closed her eyes at the action, and they both missed Pennywise being shrunken down into dust.  Too wrapped up in one another to even realize he was gone.
“Rest easy, baby” Richie said quietly, his nose pressed into the crown of her head, and his eyes squeezing shut tightly, too afraid to look at her as she took her last breath.  “I love you so fucking much”
When he finally pulled away, he knew her eyes wouldn’t open again.
The Losers were quiet as they gathered together, all staring at (y/n’s) boneless body in Richie’s arms.  He was holding her against his chest, rocking slightly as he cried into his shirt that she still wore.  If they’d stepped closer, they would have heard him cursing straight at God.  But no one dared to take another step forward, letting Richie have this moment to mourn. ___
“She saved my life,” Eddie declared, while everyone was floating in the quarry, rinsing off the blood and gore that stained most everyone’s clothes and skin.  “At the library.  If she hadn’t come in, Bowers would’a killed me”
The others nodded solemnly as Eddie spoke.
“She genuinely cared about me,” Ben said next, remembering the first time he’d met her.  She was the one that offered to let him ride on her bike after his run-in with the Bowers Gang.  She’d demanded that they helped clean him up.  “I guess… she saved my life too”
“Mine too,” Beverly agreed, smiling bittersweetly.  “Beat up Greta Keene in the seventh grade.  She was half her size, and she lost terribly but… she did it anyways”
“Me too,” Mike added.  “Told my grandpa she was a vegetarian so when she came over we didn’t have to slaughter anything,” He chuckled a bit.  “We always starved but… she knew I was always too chicken shit to do it”
“She used to help me with my s-” Bill cut himself off before he could chop up the word.  “She’d help me pronounce things b-better,” He looked down at the water with a frown.  “She always just wanted to help”
Everyone was looking at Richie now, while he was holding his glasses in his hands, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“I have too much to say” He finally spoke through his tears.
Beverly swam over and held onto his arm, leaning her head against his elbow to comfort him.
“You always do,” Eddie said, but the teasing words came out in a gentle whisper, as he floated to Richie’s other side, and wrapped his arm around him.  “And somehow, she loved that about you”
Richie laughed humorlessly, and for a moment wondered how she’d put up with him all through their adolescent years.
“I abandoned her,” He told them.  “We were supposed to go to New York together, but I left her” He frowned deeply, but the corner of his lips twitched up in a small smile.  “But when she came back… when we all came back she…”
It was like his voice broke at that point, and he shoved his glasses back onto his nose.
“She still loved me anyways” He finished in a hushed voice.
“Of course she did,” Beverely cooed.  “No one’s ever loved anything as much as (y/n) loved you” She told him sincerely.
“Back then and now,” Ben added.  “Just so you know.  It was always obvious to the rest of us”
Richie’s lips pulled into a small smile at everyone’s kind words, but they didn’t stop the tears from falling down his cheeks.
Everyone gathered around him to embrace tightly, all mourning the loss of their friend, and admiring her for saving all of them in her own little ways.
“I just miss her so much,” Richie whimpered, leaning his head down onto Eddie’s shoulder as he cried.  “I don’t know how to go about the rest of my life now without her”
“Day by day,” Bill said softly.  “We’ll get a gravesite for her, alright? So we can visit?”
Richie nodded, wiping at his face.
“Yeah, that’d be nice” He mumbled out.  (y/n) wouldn’t have wanted to be buried and forgotten in the place Neibolt once stood.  She’d want a real memorial, and Richie wanted it for her.
He was going to do for her what she deserved, for the rest of his damned life, he swore it.
It would’ve been in his vows, anyways.

Summer Nights and Pool Fights~ Lee Minho
This is the town that I based the landscape off. It’s kind of important to the descriptions. Also, I, ’m sorry for writing so many stories about the beach but it’s where I’ve grown up so my mind kind of goes there when I need a quick setting. Anyways enjoy the fic ^^. Also I promise to make this all look nicer when I get back from hiatus. Only 9 days this time!
Tumblr media
My fingers felt like they were going to fall off and my brain was being fried within my skull from the hours I had spent trying to sight read a 17/8 time signature. Join the state orchestra, they said. It'll be fun. Fun my foot. I'd spent all day sitting in one of my college’s music rooms practising for a massive concert next month and I still couldn't get the last few bars of the flute solo down.
 It’s not that hard Y/N.
I know OK just go away I need to concentrate.
She’ll kick you out if you don’t get it down by next week Y/N.
I get it Ok! I’m trying just-
“Y/N?” Then the door rattled. Dammit, Minho. You always pick the perfect time to make an entrance. I tried to ignore the banging on the door. “Y/N, I know you’re in there. Open the door.” He rattled the door again. “Please, your mom gave me some of her lasagnas to bring you!” I was at the door in seconds and unlocking it before he could say anything more.
You lost to pasta again Y/N.
 “Y/N-”
“Shh, no speaking, now where’s the pasta?” I held out my hand.
“I knew that would work. Here,” he handed me a Tupperware full of my mom’s famous lasagna. I swear they should make like a black market where children can sell their mother’s cooking. I could make millions!
“Now would you like to explain why you haven’t come out of this room the whole weekend? Seriously you know there are better places to practice than on campus, right? Like why would you willingly come back here?” He gave me a typical Minho face that said: really Y/N? You could be spending your weekends with your amazing best friend, but no you prioritize your metal tube over me. Oh, the horror!
“I have my reasons!” I exclaimed, hitting him on the shoulder.
 “Name three decent ones.”
“Alright, reason one: they have aircon in here and my fan messes with the sound waves.” He shot me another typical Minho look. ”I'm serious! It's a legitimate problem in the flautist community!”
“Alright, alright, kind of I believe you. Now, two more reasons. Come on.”
“I, um, yeah, um, ok! Stop looking at me like that. The concert is next month Minho! Did expect me to just sit and do nothing?” I exclaimed
“No, I don't, but I do expect you to instil some basic self-care! You can't just lock yourself in a music room all long weekend from dusk till dawn and then every afternoon after class. You need a break. Believe me, I need one too. We have a competition next week but I don’t lock myself in the practice room! So, please let me take you out of this horribly decorated room and do something fun with your best friend.” It's not that I didn't want to it was just that I couldn't. I was new in the orchestra. I still wasn't technically an official member, which meant Mrs Walsh could kick me out whenever she wished.
 “Minho I can’t -”
“Y/N I get it. You're scared. I mean I would be too with a conductor like Mrs Walsh, but you are one of the best flautists I know.”
“I'm the only flautist you know” I deadpanned.
“That's beside the point. You need a break.”
“Okay let's say I agree to this madness. What are we going to do? It's not like we can just take a drive to some magical island in the middle of nowhere.”
“Oh Y/N, you severely underestimate my connections.” There it was. That was the Minho smile. The very reason I walked up to him on the first day of high school, right after the English teacher found at least 15 paper aeroplanes stuck to the ceiling with increasingly cringy quotes from fanfic.
“Don’t look at me like that. It makes me nervous!”
“Minho where are we going?!” He had dragged me back to my dorm, made me pack a bag and on top of that insist I leave my flute behind. “Ok no. I’m being serious where are we going. My room mate will kill me if I just run off to some random mountain reserve with a boy.”
“Calm your farm Y/N. I talked to Yasmin and she said it was fine. We’re going on an adolescent adventure. You’ll look back on this weekend and think ‘wow how did I manage a whole weekend without hooking up with my drop-dead gorgeous best friend’” I punched him in the shoulder.
“Excuse me young one! That is the second time in the past two hours! Ugh, the disrespect for elders in today’s society. Honestly its horrendous” He said it in the most ridiculous British grandmother voice and I honestly would’ve loved to have laughed, but he didn’t need that sort of ego boost right now.
“You are two months older than me! Come on let’s get going I don’t want to get to wherever we’re going at like midnight.” I picked up my backpack and a duffel bag full of clothes for the weekend and pushed him through the door.
“Alright, alright, I’m going.” And then we were through the door and in his car. He started the engine and so began the two-hour road trip filled with musical classics such as Gee, Ring Ding Dong and of course Wolf.
“Minho, oh my god this place is amazing! What millionaire cousin are you hiding from me?” I walked through the front door right into the lounge which opened up onto a massive deck with the most beautiful infinity pool I had ever seen. The deck looked out onto the main beach down below. It was decorated in that classic beach house décor that was probably way older than both of us, but it was still gorgeous. The kitchen was small but had a coffee machine. Perfect, I can drag Minho out to watch the sunrise tomorrow morning and he won’t complain.
The garden and downstairs were pretty spacious but upstairs was much smaller. The house was probably designed with an “all day at the beach then entertain all night and only use the bedrooms for sleep” kind of vibe. The first bedroom was obviously for kids, bunk bed, no aircon, barely any shelving space and was basically being used as a surfboard storeroom. Not. An. Option.
Please let there be two more bedrooms, please.
It’s not like I haven’t slept in friends beds before, but Minho was a different story. That smile wasn’t the only thing that drew me towards him on that fateful first day of high school. Can you judge me though? He was an attractive new guy who had just transferred from a school in South Korea. He was an amazing dancer and he could sing. He was any band nerd’s dream. So I may or may not have a massive crush on my best friend...
I pushed back the thought and continued through the house. I had no idea where Mino was but he could manage ten minutes without burning a house down… hopefully.
The next room was just a bathroom and the next a storeroom. Who needs that many beach balls? Then at the end of the hall was the main bedroom. Dammit looks like I’m sleeping on the floor.
“Y/N where are you?” Minho shouted from what sounded like the bottom of the stairs.
“I’m up here,” and a few seconds later he was by your side throwing you a smirk. “Oh, fluff of. I bet Yasmin didn’t agree with this part of the trip.”
“No, no she didn’t. I didn’t think it was important. Besides, I’ll just sleep on the floor it's fine.” He went to go pull a mattress off one of the bunk bed, but I caught the back of his shirt.
“Nope, no way. There is no way I am letting you sleep on the floor.” He began to object “Uh uh, no buts, this one’s not negotiable.” And that was that. He knew by now that there was no arguing with me, not unless he wanted to be left to walk to class alone for a week. So he agreed but sulked about it the whole time we were unpacking the car.
“So, what are going to do for food tonight?” I asked as we sat down on the grass next to the pool.
“I don’t know. We could go down to the restaurant by the beach. The service is terrible but the food and the view make up for it. Unless you want to go down to the store to buy food and actually make dinner?” The house was on top of a hill that overlooked the beach below. The view was amazing. The lagoon mouth was open and although it was getting late there were still children playing in the granny pool beside it.
“You know Minho, I’ve been coming here my whole life and I’ve never noticed this house before. We usually stay right down there near the main beach. The house has been in my family for ages.” The question at hand had drifted from my mind as I sat in awe of the small town’s beauty in the fading sunlight.
“Well, this is actually my elder cousin’s house. He said I could use it whenever I want when I got to college, so last year I got a spare set of keys made and I come here with Jisung and Felix sometimes. But I did ask you about food.” He let out a soft chuckle. I pulled myself out of my trance and looked at him.
“Oh, right. Sorry I completely forgot. It’s just so beautiful here.” We both started out at the ocean again.
“Ok stop distracting me from the question! Are you trying to starve me Y/N?”
“Ok yes. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Um, I don’t really feel like cooking if that’s OK with you? Plus I haven’t seen this place in a while and the beach is calling me.” It really was and I couldn’t wait until tomorrow to get there.
“Ok, that’s fine. We can go now then!’’
We got to the restaurant and ate a casual dinner, nothing too fancy, and then we got some drinks and headed to the rocks on the side of the lagoon mouth. It was pretty cold at night during this time of year so we sat close to keep warm. It wasn’t unusual for us, but the dark and the beach and everything just made it feel weird.
We sat like that, in the dark, arms touching, looking out at the inky water and the reflection of the moon in it, for a while. We didn’t say anything and yet thousands of words were spoken in silence; without as much as a glance at each other.
It was weird to pull ourselves out of that silence, but we did it and were now walking down the, or rather up the hill to get back to the house.
You know Y/N you really are that idiot. The one thing we promised ourselves we wouldn’t do was to fall in love with the best friend. Now, look. You are completely and utterly whipped. No going back now. So what’s the plan? Are you going to confess in some stuttering mess of a sentence in some dark, ding music room or are you going to keep this from him for forever and die an old crazy cat lady with sixteen cats named Gerrald, Richard Parker, Isabelle-
“So Y/N what’s the plan for tomorrow?” He nudged my shoulder lightly and pulled me from my thoughts.
“Um, I don’t know. What do you feel like doing? I mean there’s not much else to do than go to the beach is there?” We got to the top of the hill and stopped to catch our breath.
“Well there’s a waterpark like half an hour away or an amazing waffle place in the next town, but beach sounds good for the first day. The waterpark will be packed anyways.” We started walking again as it started to get colder.
“Yeah, that sounds great.” I thought about it for a second and then added in my best Disney villain voice: “On one condition.” He almost looked nervous for a second but then slapped on a cocky grin before I could even remember what his face had looked like before.
“Name anything; this weekend is for you.” Two could play at that game.
“Ok then, I’m waking you up at six thirty tomorrow to go watch the sunrise.” Now he looked nervous again.
“I mean um well. Come on Y/N we’ve been best friends for years is this really a necessity?”
“Yes, Minho it very much is and I will drag you down this hill tomorrow morning if I have to. Thank you for a nice evening but I will now shower and then retire to the floor.” I let out a laugh and then started walking up the stairs.
“You know you’ll have to deal with me the minute you get out the shower right.” He laughed with me as he started following me up the stairs.
“Yes Minho, I do in fact realise that, but the fact that I have to see you does not mean I have to listen to you complain about a six thirty wake up call. Honestly, it’s not that bad you lazy ass.” I closed the bathroom door and locked it behind me. I wasn’t trying to be mean; I was just trying to have fun, but I’m bad at working out the difference so…
It was midnight and the floor was cold.
Why he thought that coming to the beach in the middle of autumn was a good idea, I might never know.
At least we haven’t said anything stupid in at least an hour Y/N.
I’ve been asleep!
Yes but we can say stupid things in our sleep Y/N.
Ok no, not listening to you anymore. Goodnight.
It was now half past one. The floor was still cold.
Unless we plan on getting a cold Y/N, we have one option.
What can a cold do to me, come on?
It can turn into a chest infection and then a lung infection and then wow look Y/N can’t play the flute anymore and oh look again we’ve been kicked out the orchestra.
Shut up.
One option Y/N, one option…
I went to go shake Minho awake. Giving in to the voice in my head was something I was trying to get better at but it still didn’t work that well… most of the time.
“Come on Minho please wake up!” He was usually a light sleeper, but he was probably doing this just to spit me. “Lee Minho I know you’re awake.” I waited a minute and then gave in to his plan that I knew was most definitely churning in that stupid, amazing brain of his. “Fine, ok, the floor is cold. Please, can I sleep with you?” He smirked but kept his eyes closed. “Not like that you pervert!”
He stirred, opened his eyes and then sat up and said: “Ya sure. I knew you’d give in eventually. No one can resist this face.” He smirked at me again and batted his eyelashes.
“Oh, would you shut up and move over.” I wanted it to come out a bit sterner, but I ended up laughing as he pouted at me and scooted so he wasn’t hogging the entire bed to himself. I turned to look at him and, in the most loving tone I could muster for one am, said: “Goodnight idiot.”
“Goodnight my bestest most loving friend forever.” We both burst out laughing (even though it was a pretty terrible joke) and fell asleep just like that, heads nearly touching but not. Toes tangled by instinct to keep warm. My heart wouldn’t calm down. I thought I might have a heart attack in my sleep. To anyone else (including me) it would have looked romantic. I secretly hoped Minho thought so too.
My internal clock woke me up at six. I had gotten used to waking up to practice and then going straight to lectures and then going straight back to practice.
I was about to sit up when I noticed it. Minho’s arm slung over my waist and his head ever so slightly snuggled into my side. I got such a shock when I saw it that I jolted. He started to wake up and I started to panic.
Oh we’ve really done it now haven’t we Y/N.
You’re not helping!
Hwta are we going to do about this Y/N.
I don’t know! You’re meant to be the logical one.
I’m just a voice in your head. How am I meant to be logical Y/N?
You’re the one always shouting at me!
No, we’re always the ones shouting at us.
What the hell is that supposed to mean!
To late Y/N
“Mm Y/N?” Oh god.
We spent the day at the beach, eating chips and drinking whatever was cheapest. We messed around in the water and read on the sand, but something was always a bit off.
“I’m sorry about this morning Y/N. I don’t know what happened.” We were walking down to a different beach to go watch the sunset. I had compromised with Minho after this morning’s antics.
“It’s fine Minho, it was cold. Body heat you know?” I let out a nervous laugh and looked over at him. It was fairly light out, as the sun was just starting to disappear under the horizon. I didn’t know if it was a trick of the early morning sun or if that was actually a blush I saw dusted on his cheeks. “Minho seriously, we’re friends it doesn’t matter. Come on stop looking so embarrassed. If anything it should be me blushing I mean I was the one-”
“I am not blushing!” He whipped his head towards me and glared.
“Ok sure mister ladies man.” It was like a whole different person. Minho was never like this. He was always the loud cocky one at the college parties, flirting with all the girls and then passing out on my couch after one to many jager bombs.
Today he was like a teenage boy going through puberty who had a crush on his older sister’s best friend.
 He likes us back Y/N
Not with you in my head he doesn’t.
Stop denying that you wouldn’t be a functioning human without me Y/N.
Fuck off I’m trying to enjoy the sunset!
Don’t screw it up Y/N.
We both froze the minute we got out the dune forest and onto the sand.
“Omg Y/N! It’s beautiful.” He was right. The sun was halfway under the horizon and had turned the few clouds in the sky the most breathtaking shade of pink.
“Ok who are you and what have you done with my best friend.” It was both weird and strangely endearing to see Minho so excited about a sunrise.
“What’s so wrong with a guy liking the sky.” I chuckled.
 You’re whipped Y/N.
Since when did you use stan language?
Since when did we start using stan language Y/N?
Oh, shut up!
“There’s nothing wrong with a guy liking the sky. I just never pinned you for a sky guy.”
“Y/N I am shocked, I am such a sky guy.”
“Ok, no more sky guying. Come on let’s sit down” We both laughed together and as we sat laughing on the sand I realised that this had been the most constantly happy I had been all year.
 Don’t screw it up Y/N
“Oh, would you shut up!” I immediately clasped my hand over my mouth. Minho looked at me with a look that was somewhere between completely shocked and hurt. “Minho I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to say it out loud. Oh, wait no that’s not what I meant. Um… I’m sorry I was just. I um, I-”
I told you not to screw it up Y/N
I could feel tears starting to form in the corners of my eyes. Minho was still looking at me with that face. I couldn’t speak.
Why now! It was going well! You ruin everything.
Not me, us. It’s not my voice Y/N
I broke down. I was so sick of this stupid voice in my head and now look what it had done. Why couldn’t I just turn it off? Why did it have to-
I felt arms wrapping around me and pulling me into someone’s chest.
“Shh, it’s ok Y/N. You’re ok.” I didn’t understand why he was always so selfless. Behind that stupid ego of his, he was just my best friend.
I don’t know how long we sat on the beach like that. The sun ha set and it was dark outside by the time I lifted my head from his chest and tried to speak but he stopped me.
“Before you make some bullshit excuse and say you’re fine, you’re not and you are going to tell me what’s going on in that brain of yours because I am tired of seeing the person I love suffer.”
 See look it’s-
“Please just be quiet,” I whispered into Minho’s chest once again.
“Y/N please tell me what’s going on. You’re really starting to scare me.” I looked back up at him and the worry in his eyes had my heart crumbling into dust.
“I just- I don’t know Minho. I just can’t get it to be quiet and it ruins everything.” He looked scared. I hated it, but I didn’t know how to explain it.
“What won’t be quite Y/N?” I pointed to my head. Realization washed over his face, then understanding and lastly sadness.
“What does it say” It was barely a whisper. I shook my head. I didn’t want to say it aloud. It made it seem too real. It already at too much power over me, it didn’t need this.
“Please, can we just go home Minho? I’m fine. I dealt with this since like Grade 8 and I’ll deal with it some more. Just please can we go home.” I hated sounding this needy, but I didn’t want to talk about this now or ever. It was something I dealt with by myself or not at all. Minho did not need to be dragged into this.
 “Y/N I can’t just-”
“Yes you can Minho and you will. We’re not talking about this. Not in the dark on a beach. Maybe somewhere else and in the far future but please, please can we just go home.” He slumped and gave in. He stood up and bent is legs and gestured with his head as if to say hurry up and get on. I’d didn’t I just looked at him, confused.
“What? Come on I have to be a good friend in some way tonight. Get on.” And so I did. It was weird but not in a bad way. I felt like a kid. It was…nice?
He somehow carried me all the way home, even up that godforsaken hill. We got inside the house, after fumbling with the keys and giggling for a good five minutes, but he didn’t stop there. He ran through the lounge, me still on his back, and opened the sliding door. He headed towards the pool.
“Minho what are you doing!” He liked back at me and smirked. He put me down and I made to run but he caught the belt loops on my shorts. “Minho seriously what are you- ah!” He had picked me up in his arms and was carrying me towards the pool. “Lee Minho I swear on my flute’s well being if you dare!” He dangled me over the pool.
“Are you going to talk yet?” I didn’t say anything. I just glared at him and in return, he loosened his grip on me.
“Minho stop!” I clung on to him.
“Talk or swim Y/N, the choice is yours.” He shook me as if he was trying to emphasise his point.
“Minho, you can’t be serious!” He didn’t look at me only at the pool which was dangerously close to my legs. I realised how he was holding me and a blush crawled up my cheeks.
Just admit it to him already Y/N.
Not now!
He knows about me now; no point in hiding it Y/N.
Oh, shut up.
“I am being dead serious Y/N. Talk or swim!” I tried to splutter out anything to try to change my mind but all that came out was an incoherent babble.
“You chose…wrong!” And with that, he threw me in the pool. The perfectly heated water enveloped me as I felt all my clothes get wet. Thank God for beach holidays where the taking off your costume isn’t an option. I took off my wet top and pants and threw them on the side of the pool.
I came up to take a breath and saw Minho take off his shirt and bolt towards the pool. He canon-balled into the pool; nearly landing on me in the process.  He disappeared in the inky dark of the water, none of the pool lights were on, I mean we didn’t exactly plan on using the pool other than to wash off the sand.
“Minho, where did you go?” I couldn’t tell if my laugh was out of nervousness or joy. It was so weird. Maybe half an hour ago I was sobbing into his chest trying to keep this stupid thing out my head and now here we were, just stupid kids again. The same Minho who would contemplate the art teachers seeming immortality is the same Minho who had gathered me in his arms and just been there. The same Minho who convinced me to flirt with the lunch lady was the same Minho-
“Ahhh!” He had come up underneath me, grabbed my legs and launched me in the air. “What the hell was that for!?” I tried to stare him down but he just laughed.
“Because I think you needed to smile.” He grinned at me, so I splashed him. He splashed back. And so began a five-minute wrestling match. I won, but I think he would have disagreed.
“Ok, ok,” He puffed out, he looked out of breath, “Now tell me what was going on with you back at the beach.” He had swum right up close to me.
“Minho do we have to talk about this right now? Can’t we just be two friends in a pool on a spur of the moment holiday?” His face contorted.
Ughhhhhh, what have I said this time.
“Is that all I am to you Y/N, a friend?” I had no idea what he was asking. Was he implying something? Or was he just being Minho?
“I don’t know what you mean Minho.”
“I mean what I said. Is that all I am to you and am I really that bad at trying to show you that I might want more?” Ok, so he was impling something. Oh my god, he was implying something.
 “WH-what?” I spluttered out.
“I like you OK Y/N? And I hate seeing you like this; beating yourself down when you’re the most talented, most amazing, most beautiful human I know!”
“Minho, I, um, I- I just don’t know what. Oh screw it!” It was now or never. I knew I’d never get a chanc like that again so I just, kissed him. And it felt freaking amazing.
Let’s just say Mrs Walsh was very surprised at how well I played at the concert.

Breaking the Time Loop chapter 4: Sacrifice
Alice put the journal down. She looked the way Henry probably had after reading the first three pages. "Wow," she breathed. After taking a while to collect her thoughts, she finally came up with a response. "So, you want to save the souled creatures. And you came here because Tom and I are good companions? Is that it?"
"Well, no. You see, to save them, I've enlisted in some...unconventional help."
"Oh?"
"I need to reconnect the souls to the bodies to bring them back to life. In other words, I need to perform necromancy. And the only creature that can do that is a demon."
"You're going to try and tame him!?"
"Actually, I already did." Alice stared at Tom in disbelief, but Henry carried on. "And he told me that only an angel could purify a soul. So, unless I want to lead out a group of crazies and check them right in to a madhouse... well, I thought it would be best to come to you. Can you help?"
"Well, I can try. Have you captured any souls yet?"
"We've captured one, and I could take Susie's whenever I want. Do you promise not to be alarmed if I call Bendy in here?"
"Go ahead."
Henry looked around the base. There were no posters. He excused himself into the hallway to call the demon, and came back with him. Tom's mouth fell open, as though he were thinking, I thought you were pulling our legs. Alice, on the other hand, seemed calm. Bendy brought his hand to his mouth, apparently pulled the soul out, and offered it to Alice. Alice observed the invisible object as though she were a mechanic staring at a broken engine, squinting at it and seeming to grow more and more dispirited. Finally, she put it on the table and looked down.
"Is this even a human soul?" Alice asked, almost in disbelief.
"It once belonged to a man named Norman Polk. He became creature you call the projectionist."
"Oh, that explains it. I can't fix this. I'm sorry."
"Why not?"
"It's just too damaged. It's not even sapient anymore."
"Well, can't you at least try?" Henry asked. From behind him, inky tendrils were spreading around Bendy.
"No. Imagine imagine a soul like a page in a book. Undoing damage is like taking a few scrambled words and putting them back to normal. You can mostly tell by context what the word is meant to be. But this-" Alice paused to look up at the alarming spreading tendrils.
"Bendy, can you stop?" Henry asked, keeping the annoyance out of his voice. Bendy shook his head. He was rapt, leaning forwards. Not knowing what else to do, Henry turned back to Alice. "Go on, Alice."
"This is like a page with almost every word scrambled. I wouldn't be bringing this person back. I'd be making a new one from whole cloth. And even then, it would take me days. This is a dead man, Henry." Alice's voice grew tenser as she continued, and it was not hard to see why.
The room was an inky abyss by now, its features barely visible. words were appearing on the walls, but Henry couldn't read them for how dark the walls had become. The ink demon was peering over Henry's shoulder like a predator looking through the brush. In a quick movement, he snatched the journal out of Tom's hands. Henry's breath grew ragged. His progress- his everything! It was in the hands of that monster.
"Bendy...I can't save you without that! Please-"
Bendy opened the book to its last page- a blank one, Henry knew, and pointed to it to put words on it. Henry could see that the beast was breathing heavily as well. He turned the book. It read, in letters big enough to fill the page and drip off the sides of it, GIVE ME THE SOUL.
"That is a good idea," Alice said. There was tension in her voice, but she seemed genuine.
Henry did not agree. But one loop for the safety of his journal was a small price to pay. "Yes. You can have the soul," he said. Immediately the inky tendrils contracted somewhat, leaving visible words spanning the walls in messages such as I MUST HAVE IT, THE SOUL IS MINE, THE JOURNAL IS LEVERAGE, and most frightening of all, IT WILL CHANGE ME. Bendy drew back the ink from the journal and the walls and handed the book back to Henry, who drew it into him like a child might a cling to a blanket.
"I should void the soul first," Alice suggested, "Erase the words, make it a blank slate. I can do it while we head down to the machine."
"Go down to the machine?"
"It's needed to transfer souls," she explained.
"Alright."
Henry knew then that it was the end of this loop. He'd speculated that Bendy was using souls to turn into his monstrous final form, but now, with that message on the wall, it was sure.
The five made their way down. Tom took up the rear, staying on the lookout for any dangers that might be following. Alice was next, too preoccupied with the soul to be alert to danger. Then Boris. Henry followed the ink demon, who was taking them along at a quick pace that forced Henry to run to keep up. Bendy's excitement was obvious. Words sprayed on the walls only to immediately drip off. Most of the words went by too quickly for Henry to read, but he could see what an elated, messy scrawl they were, and he could catch a few words: "transform," "anew," "finally," and for some Godforsaken reason, "love." In his rampage, butcher gang members and lost ones dissolved the moment they grew near his inky aura. Thankfully, Alice, Boris, and Tom stayed far enough away to be unaffected.
Finally making it to the pit before the administration office, Bendy immediately jumped down, leaving the others in the dust. Henry, exhausted from all the running, stopped to catch his breath. "Alice..." he said as soon as he had the air to, "you have rope, right? We need to keep up with him."
"Indeed I do," she answered. Henry used the rope to climb down the pit, and tied it on hook well into dry land so that none of the ink creatures would have to risk touching the corruptive substance. By the time all four were down, however, the ink demon was nowhere to be seen. Henry noticed a poster on the wall, with a few excited but already fading phrases written around it. "Oh, no. We're too late." With his luck, that creature had already swallowed the end tape by now.
"It's alright," Alice said, "It's not like he can actually do anything without the soul, anyhow."
"Yeah, the transforming part isn't what I'm afraid of," Henry replied.
"Well, we'll only be later if we waste time feeling sorry for ourselves. Let's go."
The group was able to make quick work of the audio vault, killing the butcher gang with their axes and machete and only needing one trip to collect the thick ink required to repair the drainage system. Henry took a deep breath as the group finally approached that impassable river of ink.
"I suppose that this is where you have to leave me?" Henry asked, though it wasn't really a question.
"Sorry, but yes. We'd dissolve in that ink in a second. Here, take this," Alice handed Henry the soul. Though he couldn't see it, he cupped his hands around it as though it was everything to him. "Give it to the demon. I have a feeling that this won't end as badly as you think it will."
"Very well," Henry said, "And thanks for everything." He knew then that he'd be facing the end of this time loop as he did all the others: alone. He stepped into the inky river, stopping to look back at the trio. Instead, he saw Boris dashing in behind him, wielding Tom's ax. He scampered to the other side as quickly as the viscous ink would allow, pulled himself onto the other side, and shook off. Black drips hung down into the white parts of his character design as a result of ink damage, and his form seemed a good bit less solid than usual, but he was otherwise unharmed. Henry smiled, touched at his friend's loyalty. He got up onto the other side of the river and helped his companion to his feet. "Thanks, buddy," Henry cooed. He didn't remember, but it seemed from the journal that he always loved loops where Boris stayed alive and with him.
Together, they entered the demon's throne room. Everything, from the projections on the walls to the chains on the throne, was intact. There weren't even any extra messages on the walls. For a moment, Henry got his hopes up. Holding onto that dash of optimism, he opened the film case.
It was empty. Henry's pace quickened. He fell to his knees.
"Boris, I'm trapped," Henry said in a hopeless monotone. "I can't get out of here without that. I'm going to rot. I'm going to be a lost one. I'm never going to see Linda again. Oh my-" At the beginning of Henry's breakdown, Boris had been attempting to comfort Henry. Then, something else caught his eye, and he'd drifted towards it. Now, he was trying to get Henry's attention. "Hmm?"
Boris pointed to a room adjacent the throne room. Within it, Bendy was sitting down cross-legged inside one of four glass tubes. The duo entered. Small, polite letters appeared on the glass tube: Please give me the soul. Not knowing what else to do, Henry pressed his palm against the glass, opening the hand that held the soul. Bendy reached out to grab it, as though he were grabbing a fly. Then, the tube flooded with high-pressure black ink. The transformation had begun.

Yeah, I wrote this story months ago, back when the audio log characters were afterthoughts at best for me. I’m sorry, Norman... sorry I threw you under a bus for plot convenience.

Not a monster part 1
A/N: So this takes place about 2 years after Inky's "Birth" and this is basically how Tom actually realised that Inky wasn't really a monster and was actually harmless.
Also... WOW! Would ya look at that! I made fic this time! I'm also going to ask you to be gentle with me because it's the first time that I'm making a story, and since I'm already bad at writting in French, this bound to be not very good.
Now... Enough with that and let's get on with that story, shall we?
_______________________________________________
???'s POV.
Why... Why did they do this to me?
I don't understand... Did I do something wrong?
Whatever I did, I promise I won't do this again!
So please... Someone... Anyone... Please, let me out of here...
It hurts... It hurts so much.
Thomas' POV.
'Why am I the one who has to do this?' Tom asked himself for what felt like the thosandth time.
Earlier, while he was fixing a broken pipe with Wally, one of his coworkers from Gent came to him and told him that Mr. Drew needed him for something important. 'What does that man want from me?' the head mechanic thought. So he went to the boss' office to know what did he want.
"Alright Mr. Drew, what is it that you need me for?" Tom asked.
"I want you to go dow to the Main Ink Machine and visit that abomination you and the other gus at Gent create. Don't worry! I made sure that it can't harm anyone!" he quickly added when he noticed the other man's worried face. "But I still want you to check if it hasn't tried to escape and pour this on it and it's chains." Joey handed him a bottle full of a strange liquid.
"What's it for?" he asked, not really sure if he even wanted to know the answer.
"It's a 'warning'. It's too make that demon doesn't get any idea of trying to escape. I made it myself! It's a mixtur-" he stopped listening after that.
Now he was at the massive entrance of the machine. His heart was pounding from the fear and aprehansion he was feeling. He hesitated for a moment and looked through the glass at the sides of the door. He saw the ink making the silhouette of the studio's main star in one of them. The silhouette was perfectly on-model.
He took a deep breath then turned back to the door. His hand was hovering over the lever that would open the door of the demon's prison. "Don't worry! I made sure that it can't harm anyone!" Joey's words kept playing in his head like a broken record player and he couldn't help wondering, how exactly did his colleages manage that. I mean last time he checked, that creature was about 8 feet tall (maybe even taller), clawed hands and  had huge strong looking black wings with claws at each!
After a few seconds of hesitation, he finally decided to pull the lever, his curiosity getting the best of him, and entered the big room but stopped imediately in his track at what he saw.
"Don't worry! I made sure that it can't harm anyone!"
Yeah... No shit...
Now he understood how they managed to keep it at bay. The demon was pratically surrounded by chains! It was forced to sit on a throne-like chair by chains going through its shoulders, hands and feet(or are they hooves?). There were chains going around him and the chair, keeping the wings tightly folded behind it. The thing only that could move was the demon's spaded tail.
But the worst part was the shackle around its neck.
Several small bars penetrated its neck to keep the shackle in place. Tom winced at the sight. No wonder why he was hearing a ragged breathing! It must be difficult to breath properly with a blocked airway. It was a miracle the demon could still breath!
While he was approaching, he noticed movement from the creature.
It... It was trembling and flinching, from the pain of its wounds rubbing on the shackles, at the same time.
At first the man thought it because of the pain but when he noticed that the closer he came, the more the slight trembling became a horrible shaking, how it was trying to make itself as small as possible and was just a whimpering, melting, shaking mess, it was easy to see that it was from fear. Even its face showed absolute terror. Which was surprisingly very expressive for being half covered in ink.
Saying that Tom was confused would be a huge understatement. He just couldn't comprehend the fact that the demon in front of him would be afraid of an average man like him. It was clear to him that this creature could tear him to shreds if it wasn't chained. The fact that it seemed afraid of him made it very disturbing too. It meant that it was capable of feeling human emotions, which should not be possible! Hell it shouldn't even exist!
But... It -no he - does... And right now, he was like a terrified child.
'Oh god...' Tom thought when he realised something. 'He is a just a child' The realisation made him sick. This meant that they locked and chained a child. And they did that just because he wasn't perfect.
He looked back at the demon and saw that the trembling and the terrified look lessened,
and was replaced by a curious and maybe concern too. Tom really hopped that the last one was only his imagination. Because he sure as hell didn't deserve that.
The mechanic sighed deeply and was about to rub his face from the exhaustion of the day,
until he heard a croaked whine. When he looked at where the sound came from he saw that the inky kid was back to shaking horribly.
He then remenmbered the bottle that Joey gave him. When he raised the hand that was gripping the bottle, the demon began shaking and whining more.
'Why is he so terrified of this?' he asked himself. He then tried to remember what Joey said about it. It was something about it being a 'warning' and that he should 'pour it on the demon and on his chains'. He sighed, this didn't answer his question...
His eyes widened when he remembered a part of Joey's explaination he was sure he stopped listening to.
'-it's a mixture of acetone and Holy Water. I found out that, while the acetone unfortunately doesn't kill it, it does seem to affect it! Quite painfully might I add!' he smiled with glee at that. 'And I'm sure don't have to explain the Holy Water.'
Tom felt he was going to throw up. This... This was sick!
He wanted to throw that instrument of torture as far away as possible! But he knew that the sudden movement and noise might scare the poor kid more. Besides, Joey would ask about it if he came back without it. So he decided to do something else.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you." he said softly and hopefully reassuringly, while backing away slowly. The demon was loking at him curiously and perplexed but least he calmed down a bit. When the man was satisfied by the distance, he opened the bottle and poured the content on the ground. After all, Drew would expect him to come back with an empty bottle.
Now the demon seemed so surprised that he completely stopped shaking. Tom decided that it was better this way.
He then slowly walked back to the demon trying to be as less intimidating as possible and when the ink creature flinched he stopped and said: "It's okay kid. The bad water is gone now and, like I said earlier, I ain't gonna' hurt you." After a few minutes, he took tentative step and when the demon didn't react, he walked closer until he was a feet away from him and slowly and carefully put his hand on the demon's head, between his horns. The demon leaned to the touch and even purred softly (at least as well as he could with a blocked airway) when Tom began petting him.
"You're just a big cat, ain't ya?" he chuckled. But his warm smile was quickly replaced by a frown. Now that closer he could clearly how his inky skin tried to close the wounds but ended up closing on the shakles. 'This looks painful' he thought. He then noticed that the demon has fallen asleep.
He smiled softly and decided that it was time for him to go. So he picked up the empty bottle and went back to Joey's office. When he entered the office, he had a hard time keeping his composure.
"So... Did you do it?" Joey asked with an unreadable face. Tom knew he couldn't trust his voice to not betray him, so he decided to just put the empty bottle on the table, a bit too harshly. Joey only glanced at it for half a second. Then smiled, looking disturbingly happy, and exclaimed:
"Excellent! This will your other job. Once a week I'll call you to my office and give you another bottle and you'll do the same thing as today. What do you think Tommy?" Again, not trusting his voice, he just shrugged.
"Fantastic! You can go now, you're dismissed." He said while waving the mechanic off dismissively.
When Tom went back upstairs, he was tackled by his worried wife. He hugged her but decided not to tell her the actual Truth when she asked him where he was all this time, so he just told her that Joey needed him for something related to the Ink Machine. She frowned but, thankfully, didn't question it.
Next Week he'll ask the inky demon some questions.
Huh. 'Inky' actually suits him, maybe he should call him that.

Whew! Finally done with the first part of this story!
Hope you liked it!

chapter 1
If there was one thing I could change about myself, it was my terrible, terrible habit of falling in love. It was a curse; I fell in love so often I couldn’t even count all the occasions over the years. And I was only seventeen, to boot. But that wasn’t so bad, not really. It was certainly exciting. No, the curse was that none of them, not one, had ever been interested in me back. I was too weird, too boring, too loud, too quiet, too excitable, too smart, too oblivious...the list went on and on.
I always looked forward to Thursdays though. Why? Because our schedules lined up and I could talk to my current crush. He was dreamy: inky black hair, bright green eyes with freckles splattered across his nose. Lithe, quiet and smart, he was sweet and cute and seemed to find me endearing. I was happy that he even acknowledged me, considering it to be a sign. Surely, if he gave me the time of day, there was a chance. That he liked me well enough, that, over time, it could blossom into something more.
Nodding to myself, I pushed the door open to my history class. All I wanted was to talk to him and have everything go smoothly. Hang out, laugh, chill, and be ready to get through the rest of the week until I could see him again.
Sitting my bag down, I smiled at him sweetly.
“Hey, whazzup?” He nodded.
“Not much. You?” I replied.
He shrugged, and turned back to his friend. A little hurt, I brushed it off and pulled out my thick textbook. Maybe I had just interrupted him.
“So yeah, my girlfriend was pretty irritated at me.” He said with a weak laugh.
...Oh.
The feeling left my hands as my heart stopped. My book clattered to the table, and I mumbled an “oops” as I hurriedly caught it from falling off the table.
“You okay, Kamila?” Jenny asked.
Her bright eyes watched me with worry. I smiled at her, my throat so tight I was surprised I could get the words out. They still sounded choked, like I had tried to swallow a tissue and was trying to speak around it. It felt like I had, like my mouth was full of cotton. “Yeah. I’m okay.”
Ethan glanced at me curiously as I sat down, but otherwise paid me no mind.
My heart was stinging as I thumbed through my homework.
No. No no no no, this couldn’t be happening. Surely I must have heard him wrong.
The idea of him kissing another girl, grinning from ear to ear when she texted him, hugging her tight, made my eyes burn and heart constrict.
I swallowed hard and thumbed through my book, ignoring the looks she shot me. This wasn’t how I wanted my day to go. This wasn’t what I had been looking forward to.
Why me? Why not me?
“Ah, you have a girlfriend? Since when?” Noah asked with surprise.
“Since, eh, last Thursday? I asked her out after classes.” Ethan shrugged. “You might know her.”
He mentioned her name, but I wasn’t fully comprehending. My mind was buzzing and yet empty at the same time. The name echoed in my mind, and I conjured up her face.
I knew her. We had a class together. She was cute and quiet and bubbly and brilliant. Pretty, curly hair, petite and stylish. Good at speaking, holding a conversation and talented at everything she touched.
The exact opposite of everything I was and was everything I expected him to look for.
Miserable, I listened in utter silence to the lecture. I didn’t feel like saying anything or answering any of the questions. What was even the point? I was only taking this class because he was in it. I didn’t need any history credits.
I just wanted to go home and bury myself under the covers.
Why did this always happen to me?
---------
Walking down the hallway to the last and final class, I barely noticed when my heavy bag caught someone’s arm, making them jerk in surprise and annoyance.
“Sorry.” I mumbled, briefly looking up.
His irritation fading, Xavier shrugged, pausing for a moment. “You okay?”
The image of him walking with his own girl down the hall made me clam up to anything I would have spilled to him normally. “Yeah. S’all good.”
I felt like throwing up. All the guys I had ever liked I ended up watching them get their own girlfriends. If not, they blatantly turned me down in front of a lot of people. One had even turned me down because someone told him to.
I didn’t want to mess with boys anymore. It just never worked out in my favor and I wanted to give up. I had the worst luck and I was learning to accept that I just shouldn’t even try anymore. There simply wasn’t any point.
Walking up the stairs to the main foyer, I barely noticed when someone fell into step with me. “I went to a concert yesterday and it was lit.” A familiar, deep voice said.
He hadn’t left. Probably because he was too brash to notice when I didn’t want him around. I tightened my grip on my bag handle, annoyed that I was feeling better already. “Oh?”
“Yeah, and I actually got you something.”
I looked up in disbelief. “You what? You didn’t have to.”
“Yeah, I know. I wanted to though.” Xavier dug out something from his bag and handed it to me.
I paused on the landing, and he turned to watch me. The material was soft in my fingers as I held it up.
“It should fit you, it’s too tight on me but you’re a lot smaller than me.” Xavier watched me with concern.
The words Fighter written in bold font suddenly brought tears to my eyes. The sincerity of the gift coupled with the timing made me hide my face in the shirt as I desperately tried to get my act together.
“Kamila? Are you okay? Do you not like it?” He stepped closer to me.
My first friend, the one who had given me courage to actually come back and get out of bed in the morning, gently nudged my shoulder. His hand was warm through my shirt, a comforting gesture that made me hiccup.
“I love it. Thank you.” I lowered the shirt, suddenly unafraid to show him that my mascara was probably running and the tears glittering in my eyes. “I’m sure I’ll wear this shirt until all the seams come out and the ink fades.” I smiled at him, carefully folding the shirt and tucking it into my bag.
He placed a hand over his heart. “I’m touched. I’m glad you like it. Do you have to cry about it though?”
“Today has just been rough. You have good timing.” I started up the next flight of stairs.
He easily caught up with me, his long legs covering twice as much ground as mine could. “How so?”
I let out a shuddery sigh. “Y’know, it’s just unpleasant to learn your crush just got somebody, and if you had been just slightly quicker, slightly more, the story would be different, but also knowing that you aren’t enough and won’t ever be what they want.”
Xavier hummed thoughtfully. “Deep. But hey, you can’t fight fate.”
“Yeah. I know.”
He slung an arm over my shoulder, and the weight was comforting. “I’ll message you some sad songs on Spotify and you can wallow in your misery for the week.”
I laughed. “Thanks, Xavier.”
He grinned at me, that beautiful, slightly lopsided grin that made his dark eyes crinkle. “Sure thing. Hey, I’m sure you’ll find someone. Knowing you, they’ll probably crash into you on some crowded street and you’ll both hit the concrete and instantly fall in love or some such shit.”
I had to laugh. “That’s ridiculous and I hope it happens that way.”
He winked, his arm sliding off my shoulder as he lifted an earbud to his ear. “Let me know how your week goes.”
“Of course.” I replied.
I glanced up at him, my heart aching. I had loved him once, before it had come rudely crashing down around me.
“Hey, text me if you need anything. I’m always down to facetime, okay? Never too busy for a friend.”
Ouch.
“Sure. Of course. See you next week.” We parted ways at the main entrance, and I turned to my phone to check notifications.
Another unrequited love that I had buried in the name of friendship. Honestly, why did my heart have to be so soft? So easily attracted and broken?
Something brushed against my arm. Ethan walked by, not even taking notice of me. That was normal for him. He was often in his own little world.
I envied him. It was hard to get hurt when you had your own little bubble.
---------
Running my fingers through my hair, I texted my best friend to say I was leaving school and asked if we could call that evening. She lived halfway around the world, and it was sometimes hard to hangout for more than a moment. I left the building, my feet somehow finding where I had parked that morning. Everything felt robotic and empty as I climbed into the driver’s seat, buckled my seatbelt and put it into gear.
“Things are fine. They will be fine. You’ll crash into someone.” I whispered to myself as I cranked the music louder.
---------
“He doesn’t!!!” Maria gasped dramatically when I told her what had gone down that day.
“Yeah, he does.” I traced my finger along the soft fabric of the new shirt. “Boys are losers, you need another dog.” She advised.
I smiled. “You right.”
I told her about the gift, and she sighed. “Sucks that he too, is taken. You guys would be cute. Xavier’s such goals. He’s hot and thoughtful and good with kids and honestly? Wow.”
I laughed bitterly. “I know. All perfection has flaws, though.”
Maria hummed. “Welp, maybe your mister right just hasn’t come onto the scene yet. Maybe you’re still supposed to wait.”
Sitting lower in my desk chair, I drew my legs to my chest and hugged them tight. “I hate waiting and suffering in the meantime.” I said, voice cracking.
Just from her tone, I knew she wanted to hug me. “I know, I know. It’s okay, Kamila.”

Magical Dimension Hopping is a Big Jump from Genetic Science Experiments and Other Mind Blowing Revelations Ch 1.
A Kingdom Hearts x Birdmen Crossover Fanfiction
Sora’s seraph design is here. Please appreciate shenanigans here.
I have never done something so self indulging please save me. It’s also barely proof read so sorry not sorry. Birdmen (read manga here) is set pre-33. KH is technically some hypothetical post KH3 but there is not a single spoiler except Sora can flowmotion up walls cause that’s bitchin. Let’s GO.
“Oh now this is neat.”
Sora wasn’t used to traversing the multiverse alone, so when the Gummiship dropped him off at the decreed coordinates and his magic clothes snapped into action-- he was left to speak his astonishment aloud to no one. By some cosmic choice (or was it magical programming) the garments changed into a suit of pitch black, skin tight and engulfing every surface of skin save for his face. It was aesthetically sleek, similar to his look on the Grid without the glow. But it was the sensation on his back and the ripples of feeling along the suit that suggested very quickly that this was not a fashion transformation alone.
“This is very neat.” Upon his back were very large, black wings, the color of his suit… in fact the same material as his suit. They were smooth and currently folded-- but even then they encompassed his full height.
“Wow… what did I turn into…?” He wished he at least had someone to workshop his questions with. The concept of doing a solo mission at a world he knew nothing about was capable of inspire a dash of uncertainty, but not enough to damper the moment of having wings.
It was daytime, but the location he was in was extremely shaded-- an industrial setting of an empty construction site it seemed. Sora kicked over an obstructing pile of rubble mindlessly as he approached the tarped exit (wait were those talons on his feet?). A splash of sunshine was pulled into view and a street of cars and very average looking commuters passed the blocked off entrance.
“That’s strange… they look like normal people to me…” Sora stumbled out of the site to investigate, his wings dragged behind him (he wasn’t sure how to move them) and into the midday pedestrian sidewalk. Aimlessly, Sora picked a direction and started walking with the traffic flow, the sudden loom of the massive buildings and skyscrapers making his head tilt back in an easy awe. He brought his hands to his head on instinct.
It wasn’t the first time he was in a city by any means, but as a humble islander, the scale and life of a metropolis was impossibly dazzling.
It took a second to realize that… people were staring.
Not just staring, ogling. Sora’s head snapped forward, the pedestrian that was in front of him now frozen and several meters stopped dead behind him. Cars were slowing, horns honking at the disturbance while people across the street pointed animatedly, cell phones out and fixed upon him. Sora suddenly felt a rare spell of embarrassment grip his gut and his hands fell slowly to his side.
No one looked like him. He, the dimension hopping savior of worlds, was standing out. His transformations usually worked in the opposite manner. Oh… he wished he had a friend to bail him out right now. He wished he hadn’t been so dismissive of Goofy’s concern on the solo mission. ‘Making new allies’ was a lot easier to say and not as fast an achievement as he needed in this moment.
This strange social pain was then consumed by a very real and physical pain-- a jolt of electricity shooting from his wings to the tips of his toes. It left him gasping in surprise and launched his battle honed instincts into overdrive. The whiplash was killer. The crowd of onlookers melted away while Sora’s mental voice warned of imminent battle. (Why though?) But that’s when his darting eyes fell on a familiar void-- a black hole of darkness expanded in the sky above one of the scaling towers across the street.
Heartless.
Sora launched himself into action. With a flick of his wrist and a pull from his heart, his Keyblade burst forth into his hands in a flurry of light. Locked into place, Sora darted across the street with a resulting scream of horns and perhaps a siren in the distance. Without stopping, he took a vertical run up the side of the tower toward the swarm of darkness.
The Heartless emerged from the void as he drew closer, something massive and mechanical-- but it was the surrounding action around it that caught Sora’s eye.
Winged figures, spots of similar black, zipping through the air around the creature. He only counted three when he was yet again rattled by an unsuspecting feature in this word.
“Umino, Kamoda-- pin the bastard down when it emerges. You know the drill Takayama!”
A booming and authoritative voice reverberated directly into Sora’s head, almost knocking off his gravity defying climb up the tower. He gripped the hilt of his Keyblade tight as the lip of the building came into view along with the full, massive scale of the Heartless in question. A snake-like thing dripping in plates of metal and cylinders of ejecting fire.
Using his momentum from the climb, Sora vaulted into the air closing the distance, his Keyblade rending the space in a blaze of light. A satisfying crack sounded and the hulking creature was knocked back. Around it, the flying people hovered in shock. Gravity took hold and Sora fell closer to the knocked back Heartless, and thus, a spatter of jabs rained down.
“It’s that Birdman!” A different voice rang in his head as his Keyblade slashed. The creature suddenly moved out from under him.
“What do we do?”
The snake-like Heartless snapped into a frightening speed and it’s tail snapped around before slamming into Sora’s back. He was spiked to the roof of the building they were fighting over, taking a face full of concrete.
“Back him up.” That initial voice was back, with more chill and demand than before. It jerked Sora to his feet. As he regained his bearings he caught sight of two more grounded winged figures-- one staring at him with intense and furious red eyes.
A crash of impact snatched his attention back and a winged bird-like person was ripping into the plates of metal on the Heartless. It started to thrash and the progress halted in lieu of staying on it’s back. Its apparent ‘mouth’, spitting a jet stream of fire, closed in. Sora felt the panic crawl up his throat.
They were too high up.
“He can’t fly.” This voice was analytic and sure, but it was unnecessary. The intense bird-person, the one with the bone chilling voice and commanding presence, was already on the move toward him. A dull sensation of his wings being pulled preceded a rather rough jostled around the arms, the leader (a shorter boy) suddenly hoisted him up into the air with a powerful beat of his wings.
“Kamoda is so much better for this heavy lifting…” Sora actually heard these words aloud, muttered in a huff of exerted annoyance. His legs dangled as the roof grew distant. Hungry wing flaps from this strange denizen carried him fast. The warring bird-person was back to dealing damage to the enemy despite the hostil bucks. Around him the two other winged figures hovered uncertain. The enemy’s motions guaranteed a nasty blow.
Defiance jerked Sora into a struggling kick.
“Let me go!”
“Are you kidding? You can’t fly!” His lift shouted back.
“I’m close enough.” Sora took the opportunity to slip from his grip… and kick off of him. The sour voice leader squaked, falling back while Sora sailed toward the enemy in a dash. He soon joined the other combatant on the snake’s writhing back. With not so much as a nod, the two began to wail and rip at the resilient creature in tandem.
A massive plate of metal (were those plane wings?) was pried off its skin of darkness. A prime vulnerability.
The elation of an imminent win trilled through the moment. Sora gave his new comrade a glowing look.
“Together!” He invited. And in a unified attack, Sora’s blade and the new friend’s arm of piercing claws, tore into the creature all at once. One slashed with a power primal and honed by instinct, the other bathed in something more foreign and unfathomable.
Something breached and the Heartless exploded into a splash of inky black, dissipating into the air as though never there.
And then Sora started falling. The strange heartless remains like black rain in reverse.
“Kamoda!”
“Roger!”
Once again, Sora felt a pull at his wings and his descent stopped abruptly, a larger bird-person, accented in a deep forest green suddenly above him and gripping the strange things from his back in a cloth-like bunch as though it was rope.
“Yo!” He greeted and behind the visor of his helmet Sora saw eyes twinkling in excitement.
“Hi.” Sora dismissed his Keyblade and gave a casual wave of his free hand. His savior’s eyes bulged wide behind the the visor but left him speechless in their descent. It wasn’t terribly comfortable dangling like that but the roof of the building grew closer.
When they landed-- appropriately on a helicopter pad-- the clicks of talon’s followed. One by one, the ensemble of strange winged people dispelled their helmets, the domes practically liquefying and joining the seam of their suits. He took them in, the green accented one-- Kamoda if he remembered correctly. He was a hulking and tall bald boy with stern eyes that contrasted with the jovial tones of his greeting. Beside him was a petite girl with short blue hair pulled back in barrettes. Her suit was accented in a similar blue shade. They must have been a part of the flying ranks in the operation because two other folks had to close the distance from their observation perch in the corner via walking.
One was a tall, light haired boy, accented white with a neutral expression that belied his piercing eyes of red. The intensity of his stare as they approached made Sora feel uneasy. But not as uneasy as the shorter boy’s similar red gaze. He was undoubtedly the source of all the mental commands flying around by the way he carried himself (taller than he actually was, and hostile-- very very hostile-- didn’t he just help him take down that Heartless?).
“Alright, who are you and what in the world possessed you to walk down the street completely transformed in broad daylight?”
The angry bird-person had a sharp face twisted in a snarl, his wings were perched in a half open position in a manner that made him appear bigger, more imposing. Sora blinked and did a once over glance at the observing ensemble.
“Uh…” Most everyone seemed more curious than angry. His attempt at reading the room was a little more reassuring. Behind Kamoda and the girl was the fifth and final figure-- his helmet was down and he stood back in quiet observation, arms crossed and face flat and emotionless.
“My name is Sora and… I didn’t... know?”
The leader had a snap of anger. “Didn’t know?! You have massive wings!-- We are literally an urban legend at the moment and you didn’t think that would be at least a little unsafe?” The white accented person beside him suddenly clapped a hand on his shoulder.
“Back down Karasuma, we don’t know his story.” His voice was gentle even if his eyes never left the creepy, judgemental zone.
“Yeah! Hello Sora.” The girl behind him popped into view, a pleasant smile and a small wave on her hands. “I’m Umino Tsubame-- please call me Umino.” She put that hand forward in greeting.
Sora gave her a grin back, the warmth of her welcome a pacifying balm in this strange solo mission. “Nice to meet you Umino!” He took her hand into a firm shake.
“Is he even telling the truth?” The leader, Karasuma, grumbled.
“Seems so.”
“I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.” Sora offered a fig leaf to the sour ally. “But… we were quite the team taking down that Heartless.” He lifted his tone with a smile, in hopes the compliment reminded him of a nicer potential.
“Heartless?” Umino questioned. “Are you talking about the Blackout?”
“Oh great, first comrade outside the Bird Club and he’s crazy.”
“We just have to touch base is all.” The light haired boy was clearly some kind emotional mediary. His voice was light and pleasant, the kind of cultured and refined way of speaking Sora heard in royalty. “Let’s start over-- My name is Sagisawa Rei. This is Karasuma--” He once again clapped the shorter boy’s shoulder “--you met Tsubame and Kamoda caught your fall. Finally, the birdman back there is none other than Takayama. He’s probably the most experienced among us.”
Sora attempted to make a connection with the stoic figure off to the side. Takayama wasn’t avoiding his gaze, in fact the intensity was enough to rival Sagisawa’s judgement.
“‘Birdman?’” Sora cocked his head and Sagisawa waved away his confusion.
“That is what we are. This really isn’t a good place for this conversation though. My home is in this complex, let’s put away the wings and talk over some tea.”
Sora perked up at the offer and Sagisawa lead the ensemble toward a roof access in the corner, his wings wrapping around his body in preparation to go through the door.
“What’s wrong Kamoda? You’re kind of quiet…” Umino mused as they got to the door.
And with a shaking finger, Kamoda, with his gruff face stretched with bulging eyes and chattering teeth pointed at Sora. “That kid’s got a m-m-magic key-sword.”
“What are you talking about…” Karasuma started but his brow was furrowed and he found himself slacking in realization. He snapped his head up suddenly and he got in Sora’s face. “Where did your weapon go?”
Sora instinctively recoiled back, his mouth a small ‘o’ as the desperate question spun in the birdman’s head. He chuckled to break the tension uncomfortable with the insistent scrutiny. “You mean my Keyblade?-- It’s right here.”
And Sora held out his hand and the giant oversized key from before exploded into existence with a flurry of light.
