3,5,13 for Shadowheart Baldurs Gate and if u want to Tyrande Warcraft!
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
For Shart: Oh my god my first impression of her on my very first playthrough is that she's RACIST as fuck to lae'zel ALL THE TIME. Like Lae'zel literally saves her life multiple times and is offering help for the parasite which her people have studied for countless ages...And shadowheart still has the nerve to be such a cunt to her. I know she kinda gets over it in the end but it's something I found extremely irritating with her character.
Tyrande: That she's married to malfurion Bc she needs toxic yuri badly
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
This is such a shart coded song
13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
Of course this -> 🌑 reminds me of Shadowheart (and Tyrande tbh) bc it's pretty thematic for her. I don't think she'd be one to use emojis, at least as a Sharran. I can see Selûnite!Shart dropping some 🥰's
I think tyrande would probably text like a mom. She would use emoticons but idk if she would use emojis.

UHH headcanon that during Xavius' manipulation Illidan had SO many nightmares due to how we see him in the Grove later on but
Basically
But it's Illidan dreaming of horrible things happening to Tyrande and Xavius is the one manipulating his dreams and he hates himself for it
I have So many feelings on Illidan and Tyrande's issues, I think people expected so much of Illidan and they were like "you'll be married to her and that's all you'll ever need" or something and then she chose Malfurion and he was scared because that was what He was supposed to do and everything was uncertain from that point on I am projecting my autism on it all and the "oh that'll be you in 10 years" thing people instill in their kids "I think you outta stay away from here, there are ghosts in the walls and they crawl in your head through your ears" LIKE. XAVIUS (I never liked Illidan and Tyrande as a couple sorry folks)

Tag game: tag 9 people you’d like to get to know better.
I was tagged by @viharistenno and @confusedspaceotter thankee for the tag :3
Last song: Placebo - Too Many Friends (my computer definitely knows I'm gay, but there ain't no way I'm throwin my baby away :D)
Currently watching: rewatching Warehouse 13 and oh my god I forgot how absolutely perfect this show is.
Three ships: whiterose (RWBY) - grumpy x sunshine is an S tier trope and this ship has me in a chokehold; catradora (SPOP) - friends to enemies to lovers, what's not to love? also plenty of angst which I live for; pricefield (Life is Strange) - sacrificing the world for your lover trope is pretty damn powerful, also it's the game that almost singlehandedly cracked my egg so it's special that way.
Favorite color: just about any shade of purple, but if I really had to narrow it down it'd be lilac or violet.
Currently consuming: green tea with jasmine.
First ship: probably Illidan x Tyrande from Warcraft? I'm a sucker for tragic romance and I hate it.
Relationship status: single
Last movie: D.E.B.S. (2004) - I finally got around to watching it and I so regret not finding the time earlier, it's an actual masterpiece.
Currently working on: does trying not to fall apart count? how about trying to get through my plan-to-read list?
Gonna tag some of you, no pressure though :)

So, in the foundation of the "Westfall-in love" or whatever you're calling katrina/nathanos. (Dragonblight?) Does she end up developing feelings for Anduin, given his affinity for attachments to black dragons...
Do we have minor appearances? Jaina? Vanessa? How are they coping with/not helping?
Dragonblight is hilarious I'm calling it that now.
I mean it depends on what the feelings are IMO? I don't think romantic ones necessarily (mostly because I'm not even sure if she had romantic feelings towards Varian?). I've debated Onyxia/Anduin in a different context and I think it suffers from my same inability to ship Wranduin, which is I don't actually think Anduin could tolerate them at length. The dynamic makes for nice and crunchy character interactions and I really do enjoy those, but I can't ship it.
I do really like fucked up parent/child adjacent relationships that despite their ups and downs, end up rather amicable (I think the Lightbringer series did that?), and they'd have such a weird one. Anduin who is viciously honest and unrepentant in his beliefs for peace and goodness but also isn't above doing underhanded shit for said beliefs would be infuriating with glimmers of "you're not so bad kid." They of course both hate this too.
In terms of other characters
This is, in my mind, taking place in lieu of the Gathering shit, and Jaina is AWOL at this point, and depending how fast the wedding shit takes place misses it entirely (this would be HILARIOUS news to break to her when she gets back from her therapy boating trip btw. I'd be jealous of whoever got the honor.)
I don't imagine Vanessa would have any part of this
All the Horde leaders are expecting this to be a shitshow. I'm split between they're getting a sense of schadenfreude (as iirc none of them really like Nathanos) but there's a looming sense of immense danger with it, or them genuinely feeling sorry for Nathanos because Sylvanas just dumped (this on) him.
Lor'themar and Halduron are betting on how long before this explodes because they KNOW how Sylvanas is about Nathanos. (Halduron is convinced it'll be fine because he doesn't believe she's capable of feeling love, Lor'themar points out how you don't need to feel love to feel every other emotion involved with seeing a guy you obsessed over marry another woman.)
Baine was cautiously optimistic about this until he heard it was Nathanos and Katrana getting married.
No one on the Alliance knows what exactly to think about with this. I don't think anyone really likes Katrana but also no one likes the thought of a black dragon being close with the Horde either so it's kind of an impasse.
Genn and Katrana are at least having fun shit talking all of this in the wedding prep because if there's one thing old people like doing its complain.
fucking. CALIA. oh my god.
Calia who is talking to Anduin about how horrible her father was for arranging her marriage to a Lord Prestor and Anduin who is just going :V because he just arranged someone's marriage to a Prestor.
Anduin who is like "am i bad person for this?" as if Nathanos isn't like a fifty year old man who (theoretically) could've said no to this and not a teenage girl with no choice in the matter.
could you imagine. the wedding rehearsal. genn who is this close to making a scene vs sylvanas seeing him and turning to go "should i make a scene." its unfortunately lor'themar next to her and he's a good voice of reason.

What characters could be in Camilla's kin list? Same question about Lance and others :D
Eyyyy 💕
Thank you very much for your question! I hope I was able to choose characters close to our lovely SVE people. This is my first time making this list, I hope I understood everything correctly 😅
Camilla:
Carmilla ("Castlevania"), the queen of vampires (in the Netflix series, she is the general of Dracula's army). She is shown as a femme fatale, seductress and manipulator. Dangerous, bossy, does whatever she wants. Of course, in the games and Netflix series she is terribly selfish and cruel, but still she reminds very much of SVE Camilla (I thought at first that it was Carmilla who inspired the creation of Camilla. Even their names!). High kin.
Bayonetta (game "Bayonetta") - if SVE Camilla was carrying around guns, I'd scream that this is the "Literally Me" category.
Fujiko Mine (manga/anime "Lupin the Third"), a talented thief, cunning and seductive. Able to go to great lengths to achieve those riches, has had many relationships, loves to live luxuriously and is very talented at everything. I prefer Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro and anime season 4 for SVE Camilla, as there Fujiko showed more or less (kinda?) tender feelings and compassion, whereas in the original manga she acts solely out of her own interests. Nevertheless - a strong, intelligent and capable woman that almost always gets what she wants. High kin.
Lance:
Zagreus (game "Hades") - Zagreus is often shown to be humble, good-natured, and sarcastic in the game. I mean, his cheerful, though somewhat unruly nature allows him to easily befriend many people, treating those of lower status as his equals, though he respects his elders. In my opinion - he's almost like Lance's SVE. So "literally me" category.
Zorro (I will choose 1975 film, because it's my favorite) - man with a mask, a master swordsman, a noble defender of the weak and a punishment for criminals. Not without a sense of humour, always ready to rush to the aid of those in need and has a high sense of justice. It would be funny to see Lance in a mask, where after he would then reveal his identity to us.... Maybe a little controversial, but I still think it would be the high kin here.
(There was supposed to be information here about Lance the dragon trainer from Pokémon and a joke about how he and SVE Lance are very similar, but then I remembered that SVE Lance was inspired specifically by Lance from Pokémon. So we'll skip that one).
Isaac:
Geralt of Rivia (book version + game trilogy) - monster hunter, loner, sarcastic, builds himself up to be emotionless and cold, yet has a sense of empathy, stands up for the weak, intelligent and almost always sensible - should I go on? Very high kin.
Van Helsing (2004 film, not the book version) - somebody give me that meme with the two Spider-Men pointing fingers at each other, because oh boy, those two monster hunters are like two peas in a pod! "Literally me," period.
Dettlaff van der Eretein (The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine) - a reserved and cold loner vampire that is trying to find his place in the world, carries a universal sadness inside him and harbours a small hope for simple happiness? Yes, please! I could write a whole list of how similar Dettlaff and Isaac are in character traits, but we'd sit here all day. So I'll give him the "literally me" verdict and we'll go down the list.
Alesia:
Tyrande Whisperwind ("Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos") - Alesia's constant references to the Yoba, kind nature, determination and desire to protect the people made me think of the phrase "By Elune", which I often heard when going through the company of Night Elves (ah, good old Warcraft...). So considering that Alesia leads the men to defend the walls of the Castle Village from the threat, is full of bravery and courage, and always mentions her god, with Tyrande she is very similar. I can safely call this a "literal me" category.
Elita-1 ("Transformers: Generation 1"). Autobot, a skilled and ruthless warrior, yet gentle and kind to her allies. In the animated series and most comics, Elita is cautious and constantly strives to make sure her squad is safe. However, if something goes wrong, she is willing to do anything to keep her friends and subordinates safe. Not much is known about Alesia yet, but from the dialogue we have so far, I get the impression that Alesia will be the same - brave and willing to lay down her life for her friends. High kin.

i love the trope of like magic weapons leaving cool colorful scars like demon hunters having green scars not just from their transformation but from demons theyve fought maybe green black ones like the one on vol'jin? scars from frost enchanted weapons having a blue shimmer and a red one from flame ones or maybe burns from magical fire that shimmer in the light or still burn occasionally like the magic that hit them is still trying to burn them, scars or wounds on forsaken or death knights glowing with the ghostly blue that the lich king is shown to be represented, a different blue than frost scars, by like a permanent reminder of whos service they were once unwillingly tied to, or the scars from nature attacks like solar flare and lunar strike glittering under their respective celestian entity, or scars from the magic like vining puncture scars from vines entwining a druids hands before entangling roots are cast or mages hands being not perfectly flawless like people joke but layered with glittering marks that only show at the right angles from messed up spells or ones too powerful for them to have cast at the time or shamans with magic burns or sharp cuts on their arms from winds kicking up debris and water slicing them at speeds great enough to cut the armor of their enemies that missed a little and hit them too and from restless elementals or people like jaina and kadghar who went grey from exposure to greater amounts of mana than their bodies were supposed to handle their eyes shine purple from the raw arcane in the right light or when casting more powerful spells or tyrande with oh so faint scars slightly darker than the rest of her from where the dark spots from her taking on more of the night warriors power to try and kill sylvanas and and night elf in range if their eyes ever return to normal theyre darker like the new moon still holds them in her hand and speaking of sylvanas her with the great wound from frostmourne in the center of her chest, blue and ice cold to the touch and glittering with necromantic magic no matter how close to the fire she sits, a place she carefully covers with her armor no matter how skimpy it appears she makes sure to cover that spot because she tolerates no weakness especially not from herself, blood elves with ghost blue scars from the blades and claws of the horrors that attacked quel'thalas, night elves with green tinged scars from the fel influences that refuse to leave their forests, and scars from the old gods that seem more purple and black than should be possible without an infection but none show symptoms and the odd scars from the minions of the old gods maybe make people hesitate to be as helpful as they would otherwise because if they left odd scars maybe they left some madness too, anduin and other holy people like priests and paladins and especially the lightforged, their scars tend to heal with a golden tinge like the light itself is intervening to keep them safe, maybe healing from different sources leaves wounds healed oddly like holy healing maybe making someone glitter for a while, not permanently unless it was a bad enough injury to scar even with magic but for a few hours, nature healing leaves someone finding leaves and flowers in strange places, someone with a head wound finding a flower in their hair or leaves dropping off someones shoulder or side after they move once healed and scarred wounds leaving bark growing like the nature magic is trying to protect them from getting hurt again idk im having so much fun coming up with ideas for all of these so maybe expect more later

Prologue
Tumblr media
Word count: 859
Summary: How do soulmates work and who am I? Well that’s what we are here to discuss.
warnings: mentions of death, canon typical violence
A/n: Welcome to the prologue of my Kalecgos soulmate Au. I hope you enjoy and remember to hydrate or diedrate
Part 1
You would think in a world as vast and magical as Azeroth, where many different races live and thrive  it would be fairly easy to find one's soulmate. Unfortunately it’s not. In some lucky cases soulmates find each other quickly and live long lives together, like the bond between Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrande Whisperwind who have been together for nearly ten thousand years. Sadly for most it’s the opposite, spending hundreds or even thousands of years without finding their soulmate. With so many varying life spans across the world, there have even been pairs that have seen the birth and death of one half multiple times over, but such is the curse of long life.
Being a dragon makes it all the more difficult. Having a life span longer than that of most mortal races as it is, the Aspects themselves were once immortal destined to live for eternity watching soulmate after soulmate pass. In a twisted way when they gave up their aspectel powers to defeat Deathwing, they were saved from the fate of having to watch so many soulmates pass, now only having to watch the ones present in this lifetime. They were given the hope of one day getting to spend the rest of their life with a soulmate, whenever that day comes.
Now you may be wondering how the people of Azeroth find their soulmates when they’re lucky enough to do so. Well each person has a mark that represents their soulmate, these marks can vary in shape but they all function in the same way, they show the person their soulmate's emotions. For example if a person has a face for a mark, be it their soulmate's face or an animal, the face would frown when the other half is sad or smile when their happiness makes sense. Find the person who fits your mark and shares the same emotions as it. As I said before with the races who sometimes outlive their soulmates, their mark will change shape depending on each birth of their soulmate. If in one life their soulmate is a druid they may have an animal and in another life their soulmate may be a warrior who wears a helmet turning their mark into said helmet.
Simple enough to understand right, everyone in Azeroth has a soulmate, if you outlive your soulmate long enough for them to be reborn, your mark changes. The dragons and longer lived races got the short end of the stick, having to watch multiple soulmates die over the course of their lifetime, if their soulmate is not of the same race. Well this all leads us into our story or should I say my story.
I was born, well hatched around two thousand years ago. That’s right I’m one of those lucky dragons who gets to watch their soulmate die over and over again, or at least that’s what was expected. You see while dragons do have soulmates, we don’t typically get to see our marks until we are old enough to take on a mortal visage. This happens at different ages depending on the dragon and their skill level, so it can take anywhere between a year to a hundred for a dragon to know their own soulmark. In my case it was probably about ten years before I was able to take on my mortal visage.
When it came time I chose to do something different than most of my kin in the green dragon flight, where most of the green flight prefers to take on the visage of a night elf, I chose a half-elf. When in my mortal visage I look almost human, except for slightly longer ears and colored hair that changes depending on how I’m feeling at the time I shift forms. As for my soulmark I have a small blue dragon wrapped around my wrist, like all marks it shifts and moves to show the emotions of my soulmate. I know what you may think, ‘oh, your mark is a blue dragon so it should be easy just find a blue dragon that matches.’ and well that would be the case but ten thousand years ago during the war of the ancients most of the Blue Dragonflight was wiped out by Neltharion, making it difficult to locate the Blues.
Another thing about me makes it a little more difficult as well. While I am a green dragon, I also chose to spend my life among mortals living with the Night Elves on Kalimdor and then took on the role of protector of the world tree when they moved their capital to Teldrassil building Darnassus. In my time with the Night Elves, I figured out how to harness my already strong connection to nature magic to become a druid. Me being a druid may have an effect on my soulmate's mark. It could very well be a green dragon, but there is also a chance that the mark takes the shape of one of my animal forms as I do tend to prefer them over my large dragon form. I am stuck waiting until fate allows us to meet.

Illidan for the old character ask thing 👉👈 🥺
favorite thing about them Oh oh I have several things I like about Illidan. First, from a design perspective, I LOVE his color palette SO much. Like its a very good middle of not being too cluttered but not overly simple, not too loud but not too muted. Its such a fine line of both and its SO good.
On a personality basis, I love how consistent he is throughout every iteration of him. imo, he's one of Blizz's better written characters. Even the retconning from TBC aside and not making him a bad guy anymore, he still works VERY well as the anti-hero type.
i also love how he interacts with the illidari. IMO hes never seen them as lesser or just "troops" but he seems to genuinely care about them all. absolutely love the fandom trope that hes the dad to them all cause he absolutely is.
least favorite thing about them tbh I can't really think of anything I dislike about Illidan? hes such a great character & I miss him dearly :( my lil ufo favorite line "YOU ARE NOT PRE- oh, what's that? Am I denying you something? Ha! You know nothing of true longing." (one of his annoyed click lines. my lil angst machine) brOTP illidan 🤝therapy In all seriousness, him & mal... They may be dysfunctional but I want them to be happy bros :( they can bicker & still get along. OTP Illigar & Kaellidan ♥ I love them both equally nOTP illidan w/ maiev or tyrande. Maiev seems very...abusive (isnt there a part where she admits to torturing illidan & enjoying it? weird af ship) as for tyrande, while i do enjoy the one sided trope, i think the game+fandom have overplayed illidan simping for tyrande to the point where its sort of annoying imo but thats just me. random headcanon TRANS ILLIDAN IS BEST ILLIDAN. I'll die on this hill. nobody can convince me he is a cis man. unpopular opinion cant say bc i dont really have one unless you count the tyrande bit but even then its like. idc about it THAT hard yknow song i associate with them Gorillaz - Empire Ants favorite picture of them This absolute classic

As someone who played sl from launch to end: as a concept it wasn’t bad, it was VERY poorly executed. Blizz threw new characters at us and told us to care about them, But why? Why should i care about this bear who’s world was destroyed? When they could have put Fandral at their place? They should have made every npc someone who the fans already knew (i would have cared about Bastion if the character leading us was Taretha who struggles to let go) and not retcon everything from Warcraft 3 to Legion in order to make the Jailer ”make se se” (cool raid fight but made absolutely 0 sense) the final nail in the coffin was the zererh mortis (that didn’t make sense even as a concept) apprently all beigns are just weirdly shaped robots that get thrown into realms and develop personality? And Since Elune is related to the eternal ones, she is also some sort of robot! Just… what was that?
I agree, Shadowlands AS a concept is absolutely interesting and if they had competent writers, could have been really neat. You're better than me though LOL I could not finish it.
All of the horrifically bad plot writing aside -- My biggest beef was the treatment of primarily the female leads and how blizz likes to depict 'female rage' and 'female power' as literally just evil and insane.
Sylvanas had no actual logical reason to do anything she did. To take one of Arthas' primary victims and then literally YEARS LATER play her out to "become him" is so gross and erases her entire character arc to that point. It was just another 'we gave her a position of power so GUESS SHE'S EVIL NOW' crap move from blizz. And how they handled that in the end was even more disgusting. Oh its okay now guys she's nice again, was used by another "arthas" (even tho she denies it!!!) and hates her "old self" and is going to go on a journy of 'self loathing and repentance'. The fact that they really had her pick up a mournblade (WITH ARTHAS IN IT!!!) and take away Anduin's free will was just. Nauseating.
They didn't treat Tyrande much better either. She got a power up, uh oh, guess she's crazy now. ????? Ya'll massacred her people but you want us to believe that its just 'women irrational' to be upset by that?????????? Sure, blizz.
Calia's whole existence is just ??????????? ?????????????????????????????????????? Insult to injury to take out Sylvanas and half replace her with Arthas' SISTER, but then act like she can totally relate to the forsaken when their entire existence has been about suffering horrifically, being mind controlled, being DAMNED, and having everyone hate them for something out of their control, and Calia doesnt have a single one of those issues ....... ??????????
Jaina gets her kick ass harbinger song and then ...... nothing. Just more of the usual for Jaina.
And finally my last beef, the "foreshadowing" of Anduin and Arthas parallels WHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY. These two characters are NOTHING alike they don't share any kind of similar anything, not back stories, not personalities, NOTHING. They were both blonde. Both blonde royalty. ???? JUST ?????

So I'm doing Pandaria Remix like everyone else, and started Landfall on my Alliance hunter because she was my first to 70. I got to the point where Tyrande is attacking (the orcs) at Chi-ji's temple, and just...
My "Can we not?" levels hit their max. I had LITERALLY just cleared the Temple of the Red Crane of Sha, I did NOT want to go back there to make things Worse.™️
So I'm like fine. Whatever. Fuck it, I'll do it on the Horde when I get there.
And then Garrosh shows up.
"Oh, there is no way I'm gonna enjoy this questline, is there?"
I was think close to just bailing when Vol'jin showed up. Instant relief. Mentally my Forsaken is excitedly climbing all over Vol'jin. I am so glad Troll Husband is here to save my sanity.

Hello! I saw the caption "night elf secession au go brr" and desperately want to know more. If you don't have a post somewhere I didn't see (sorry if I missed it) would you feel up to sharing at some point?
I don’t already have a full post about it anywhere because I’m constantly in the process of adding finer details. I made an “adjusted timeline” post on my deathbydarkelves sideblog a while ago, but that’s old by now and I’ve changed some things around. Even so, I will not lie, I have been WAITING for someone to ask me about it >:) so *cracks my knuckles* guess it’s time to make that post.
(GIGANTIC info dump incoming)
The basic things to know about this AU are 1.) Shadowlands never happens (my dislike of SL was actually what inspired me to make this AU in the first place), and 2.) the timeline is stretched out so things happen at a slightly more reasonable pace. In the canon timeline, all of the expansions (minus Dragonflight ofc) happen right after each other and each take place over 1-2 years, which is silly in my opinion. I did leave some of them alone length-wise, sometimes 1-2 years is fine, but almost all of the expansions now have a few years in between. Breathing room is good to have if you ask me. Oh also the N’Zoth/Azshara stuff doesn’t happen during the Fourth War, that’ll happen somewhere later down the line. But that’s not the main point…
Everything up until the middle/end of the Fourth War is pretty much the same, except for the aforementioned lengthening of the timeline. Teldrassil happens in 45 ADP, whereas in the game it’s 33 ADP, for example. So Teldrassil burns, the war happens in basically the same way it does in canon, and it ends with the mak’gora outside Orgrimmar (in 47 ADP). Then the actual changes begin.
Maiev joins Tyrande to track down Sylvanas, and Malfurion takes Tyrande’s place as a temporary leader for the night elves (aided by Shandris). Then for 5 or 6 years, really not much happens. Things are… fine on Kalimdor. Mt. Hyjal sorta becomes the new population center for the night elves (and handful of worgen) who stayed, and rebuilding efforts are definitely underway. But they don’t have the resources or the ships to bring all the refugees back. A portal that could support that many people would be far too demanding and risky to use.
(Note: I changed how portals work slightly to make them less OP, and in a nutshell, you can only make portals at specific points on Azeroth, specifically where natural ley lines connect. If you want a bigger portal, or one independent from ley lines, you either need an outside power source (see: the Dark Portal) or you need to be on top of a gigantic web of interconnecting ley lines. Some places have more ley lines than others (example: Suramar). Also it takes a lot of a mage’s energy to keep a portal of any size open for very long. They opened portals to Stormwind during the burning of Teldrassil, but only because it was such a bad situation; portals that go across such a long distance are very unstable and very expensive to both conjure and maintain. They also could only create them in specific places, which is why they couldn't get nearly as many people out as they would've liked :c)
So, with no way to bring them back, the refugees have just got to stay in Stormwind City and Elwynn. It’s rough; very few of the night elves speak Human (I renamed Common because I don’t like the undertones with that name), and the Stormwind government is being pretty laissez-faire about the whole thing. They have to worry about helping Kul Tiras and Stromgarde so they can rebuild, after all :) Building new ships and collecting all the supplies for the months-long voyage to Kalimdor is too expensive, the government says. But it'll happen, definitely, don't worry. It'll definitely happen. Eventually.
So night elf-Alliance relations decay. Stormwindians are tired of having homeless elves on their streets, the elves are tired of being homeless. There’s he-said-she-said stories of humble, hard-working humans being robbed at night by elves on the brink of starvation, and there are she-said-he-said stories of humans setting fire to tents on the edges of their property to scare off humble, hard-working elves just trying to find a place to live. In not so many words: animosity grows. This isn’t out of the blue; historically (even in canon), the other races of the Alliance haven’t really done much for the night elves except for when they helped push the orcs out of Ashenvale all the way back during the Third War (which was 30 years ago at this point). They’ve really just used them for an extra source of soldiers. The “deterrence from Horde attack” benefit the night elves were promised back then was proven false with Teldrassil, and that’s not to speak of smaller skirmishes that had happened every now and then even before the Fourth War. If anything, being part of the Alliance made the night elves a target. Sylvanas burned Teldrassil to provoke the Alliance into a war (note: I am still working on her exact motivations, since I deleted the Jailer and that weird thing with Elune because um??? no?????). Logically, if they hadn’t been a part of the Alliance, they would’ve probably been left alone. And that’s the realization Tyrande comes to, after tracking Sylvanas down in Northrend — where she and her closest followers had decided to hide out until things calmed down — and killing her.
Then she and Maiev return from their 6 or 7 year-long journey, and Tyrande is outraged at the way her people have been treated. Malfurion had also been made aware in the intervening time, and he’d started showing the Alliance that even though he didn’t have as much executive power as Tyrande, he could still rock the boat as it were. After the requests he made directly of Anduin and other Alliance leaders to give the refugees at least, like, a little support were either half-fulfilled or not at all, he basically starts a mild trade war. This was a pretty controversial move even among the night elves, but there wasn’t much else he could do. But during the Long Vigil, the night elves had perfected the art of being self-sufficient, and it definitely hurt the Eastern Kingdoms more than it hurt them. So with that set into motion, and Tyrande’s mind made up, she returns to her place as High Priestess and diverts every available resource into finally bringing the refugees home. It’s a very slow process, and relations continue to decay as it happens. But eventually everyone who wants to go back to Kalimdor does. A portion of worgen stay, and even some night elves who had their own reasons. But the majority do go back.
Then, after negotiating borders with the (now much more diplomatic) Horde, Tyrande cuts off ties with the Alliance. Relations had been iffy at best ever since they joined — their alliance had been built on “enemy of my enemy”, after all — but the other nations showed their true colors during and after the Fourth War. The Alliance’s High King himself had failed to send troops to help reclaim Darkshore when he had very clearly shown he was more than willing to send soldiers to Arathi, Lordaeron, and Kul Tiras. And again, the whole “if we hadn’t been a part of the Alliance, Sylvanas wouldn’t have seen us as a target” thing. So, with Darkshore, Moonglade, Winterspring, Felwood, Mount Hyjal, most of Ashenvale, and portions of Stonetalon now within their control again, the night elves settle into another period of isolation. It’s not quite a second Long Vigil — there’s some trade/interaction with the draenei (due to proximity and shared trauma) and tauren (due to shared values) — but all in all, they’re on their own now. Relations with the Horde aren’t good per se, but both sides are willing to agree on a “if you don’t fuck with us, we won’t fuck with you” policy. They both want to avoid anything like Teldrassil ever happening again, and that’s ultimately what allows northern Kalimdor to exist in relative peace.
I don’t have quite so many details decided after this point, but I do still have a general idea. Dragonflight happens about ten or fifteen years-ish after the night elves secede, and since they’re still keeping an eye on the other factions and the world in general with magic, spies, and magic spies, they decide to send their own expedition to the Dragon Isles. They keep to their own, and any accidental interactions with Alliance adventurers are tense at best. We’ll have to see how this expansion plays out, but I intend on using the dragons (specifically the Aspects) to fix the sword in Silithus somehow. It’s definitely still a big problem, and it’s been causing climate change-like effects this entire time (unpredictable and extreme weather events globally) as well as its own unique, “fun” issues (weird tectonic anomalies, the elements are extremely agitated, and azerite is still a thing people fight over). I actually already had the “elements are cranky” idea before that was revealed to be a thing in Dragonflight, so I’m glad that lined up because that saves me some work lmao.
(Also just wanted to say that a lot of night elves see azerite as the reason for the Fourth War and, by extension, Teldrassil. They want absolutely nothing to do with it.)
I’m also considering putting a version of the N’Zoth and Azshara story around there, when the sword is removed, since I figure such a big disturbance to Azeroth would be enough to wake up an Old God. But that’s for later down the line and it depends on whether that would clutter the story too much or not. Either way, after whatever’s gonna happen in Dragonflight (or rather, how much of it I decide to keep) and after the sword is fixed, the night elves are gonna stick to their own unless there’s a dire need for them to leave Kalimdor. They’re tired, man. They need time to rebuild, and to heal.
However, I do have concepts for a little Alliance-night elf conflict that could crop up at some point. The Horde may have agreed to leave the night elves alone, but the Alliance are imperialists. And aren’t too happy that they were, in their eyes, betrayed by a long-time ally…
So yeah! That’s my night elf secession AU. It’s extremely self-indulgent and a lot of fun to explore for me. WoW really has not given the night elves a lot of opportunities to be the badass mysterious amazon nation they are in Warcraft III, so I wanted to bring that back while also preserving some of what WoW DID add to their story, because I really do think Teldrassil is such a good jumping-off point for a huge shift in the overall Warcraft narrative... as much as it hurts me and as much as I am genuinely incapable of watching the Warbringers: Sylvanas or Old Soldier cinematics anymore. Night elves have meant a lot to me for a very long time and stories of people going through hell and still coming out okay on the other side are my favorite stories, so I want to tell my own.
I’m also open to more questions about this AU, I have a lot of little things I changed both in regards to things like how magic works and minor lore changes, like how I made Teldrassil at least a couple thousand years old, as opposed to the 15 (or so) years it had existed in canon before it was burned. They only planted it after the Third War. You can check. It’s extremely stupid and everyone ignores that little detail so I will too <3
Anyway, thank you so much for asking, I’ve been dying to share all this and I didn’t realize that until you asked JHNDJSKJ

Sylvanas Windrunner: Lor’themar, do you believe in pettiness for a good cause?
Lor’themar Theron: Oh absolutely.
Sylvanas Windrunner: I want to steal one of Tyrande’s potted plants. For…reasons. Are you in or out?
Lor’themar Theron: It’s plant heist hour. Of course I’m in.
Nathanos Blightcaller: …

Bulma x Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z) Drarry (Harry Potter) Usagi x Seiya (Sailor Moon) God I really loved Yugioh shipping too ahhhhh Yugi x Atem mostly! Yuki x Shuichi (Gravitation) Misa x Light (MISA DESERVED BETTER) and Light x Mikami (Death Note) YUME of course (KANAME DESERVED BETTER) (Vampire Knight/VKM) and AiRen is really cute too ;; Tyrande x Illidan (Warcraft - WHY AM I A SUCKER FOR FORBIDDEN LOVE AND BAD BOYS)(THIS IS STILL MY DESKTOP WALLPAPER BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH)(IT'S DEPICTING WHEN SHE GAVE HIM HIS FLOWER AND IT'S HIS LOOT DROP WHEN YOU KILL HIM IN WOW... Tumblr media
I liked Rickyl (The Walking Dead) I liked Reylo (Star Wars) Oh and I was a Larrie once *cries* me and a few bkdk friends bond over one direction sometimes LOL Can't forget to mention my Sasuke x Naruto past either... I'd say my favourite movie is Memoirs of a Geisha... I just... love everything about the vibe of that movie including that beautiful romantic scene at the end, and I feel like bkdk is sort of being written in the same way where they'll have this intimate moment of connecting to each other which recalibrates everything that's ever happened between them with a romantic lens, if that makes sense? Togachaco, Kudoichi, and finally... Bakudeku (Forever and ever til I'm gone from this earth)
