It was always you~
| synopsis: Childhood friends Jeonghan and Y/N, separated by distance, find their way back to each other in university, igniting a journey from friendship to love filled with whispered confessions and electrifying moments.
| pairing: non-idol childhood bff!jeonghan x reader
| genre: fluff
| warnings: none
| w.c: 960
| a/n: this is pure fluff, story about how two separated hearts find each other once again.
Jeonghan had always been more than just a friend. He was your confidant, who had stood by your side since childhood. You were childhood friends with a history that spanned back to the early years, making it inevitable that something more profound was bound to happen between you two.
You and Jeonghan met as kids, attending the same middle school. You were inseparable, partners in crime on every adventure that childhood had to offer. You shared secrets, laughter, and countless jokes, forming a bond that no one could understand. Your parents encouraged you to spend most of your childhood together. Sitting next to each other in every class, stealing pens, and scribbling on each other's notebooks.
But as life would have it, high school brought new challenges and new schools. Because of work, his father had to relocate to another city. The separation was tough, and it felt like a piece of your heart was missing without Jeonghan by your side. However, you both had a tacit understanding that this was necessary for your individual growth. The emotional goodbyes were filled with promises to meet again someday.
As time flew by, you found yourself in university, a fresh start in a new city. The transition was a bit intimidating, but you were determined to make the most of it. As you nervously walked into the university campus on your first day, the last person you expected to see stood there, grinning from ear to ear. It was Jeonghan. You ran towards him with open arms and hugged him in a cliche airport reunion style.
"What are you doing here?"
"Are you also going to this university?"
"What courses do you have?"
"Are you staying in the dorms?" you fired away without breaking the hug.
Jeonghan decided to have a little fun with your eagerness. "Oh! I was here just for today; I'll go back by evening.", he said pulling away slightly.
Your face fell, and you sighed, a playful pout forming on your lips. "Oh…"
Seeing your disappointment, Jeonghan immediately regretted his teasing and couldn't bear to see you sad. "I'm just messing with you," he admitted with a chuckle. "I'm really joining this university."
Relief washed over you, and you couldn't help but give his arm a playful slap. "You're mean! " As your eyes met, all those years apart seemed to fade away.
Your friendship was rekindled, and it didn't take long for the sparks of something more to start flying. You started attending classes together, studying together, and going out on adventures just like in the old days.
One evening, you found yourselves at a crowded university party, lost in the sea of strangers. Jeonghan leaned in close, his voice a soft caress against your ear. "We should definitely get out of here. Don't you think so?" he whispered. Your heart raced, and you cursed at yourself for stammering, "Y-yeah, sure. Uh-huh." He chuckled at your shyness, knowing full well the effect he had on you.
His fingers gently brushed against your hand as he extended it towards you, the touch sending a shiver down your spine. It was a small, intimate gesture, yet it spoke volumes about his intentions.
Feeling your cheeks flush with a deep shade of red, you couldn't help but look down, trying to hide your embarrassment. The pounding of your heart reverberated in your ears as you hesitantly slipped your hand into his. With a gentle tug, Jeonghan led you away from the bustling party. The soft strains of music and the chatter of other guests slowly faded into the background as you followed him. You couldn't help but steal glances at him, his profile illuminated by the dim party lights, his smile never leaving his face.
And in that moment, you realised that your heart had long crossed the threshold of being just friends.
Jeonghan's roommate had been relentlessly gushing about how adorable you were. Their praises seemed never-ending, and they had begun to get under Jeonghan's skin. He overheard them talk about your charming smile, your infectious laughter, and the way your eyes lit up when you talked about your passion. Burning with jealousy, he showed up outside your class, leaning against the wall, trying to appear casual despite the racing of his heart.
Jeonghan held your hand, pulling you aside. "We could be more, you know?" he said softly, his eyes locked onto yours. Your heart pounded in your chest, and you feigned ignorance. "Hmmm?" "What do you want us to be other than friends?" you teased. "You know exactly what I want," he whispered back, your cheeks turning a light shade of red.
Your newfound connection led to secret smiles and inside jokes that only the two of you understood. You'd burst into fits of laughter, just like in your childhood, while others stared at you, thinking you were both crazy. But you knew better; you were simply crazy in love.
Another afternoon, Jeonghan playfully caged you between his arms, leaning in so close that your breaths mingled. "I know exactly what you're thinking," he whispered, his lips brushing your ear. You couldn't help but blush, your heart racing. "Wtf?" you thought, but deep down, you knew exactly what he meant. "May I…kiss you?" Your breath catches in your throat and you force yourself to say something, finally making out a small 'yes' before your lips are attached and you forget how to breathe.
It was a journey from friends to lovers, a story of whispered confessions, shared laughter, and electrifying moments that made you realize that, in the end, it had always been him—it had always been Jeonghan. And as you looked into his eyes, you knew that your bond, forged in childhood and tested by time, had evolved into something deeper, something that would last a lifetime.

911 ep 710 first watch reactions
Ha, so Chris is upset, Eddie is distraught and his go to person is Buck, who drops everything else and comes over right away. And not for the first, or second, or third time. Yes, this is exactly how every platonic friendship I've ever had has played out.
The way Buck reads Eddie, knows him so well, that Buck can vocalize the part that Eddie can't say out loud right away... Soul mates.
"What you always do." Married soul mates.
LOL The way Hen and Chim don't even blink when Buck and Eddie show up at the hospital together, like the married couple they are. XD
This group of fire fighters being the best amateur detectives on TV since the Scooby Doo gang will never not be funny. Also, highly implausible, but that just makes it funnier.
"You go to hell!" "You first!" So 911 was having a western kink kinda month, and decided to set up this very likely storyline, just to be able to quote Tombstone? Hmmm.
"This one, we both walk out of." See, 911 is the show where I can roll my eyes 30 times during a storyline, but the climax moment still gets to me with its humaneness. That's the show's power. And the follow up reunion with Bobby! I had no doubt he'd live, but it was still very emotional to walk with Athena down the hospital hallway into his room and get to not only see, but also feel it.
"Bobby is the father I've never had." We know, but it was still nice to hear. "Your father's alive." Oh, Tommy. How little you understand Buck. "So maybe we both have daddy issues." "I don't." "But you think I do." "God, I hope so." lol Is this supposed to be flirting? If so, it's so off the mark for me, the dart ended up in outer space. I mean, Buck obviously has daddy issues, and I guess whoever needed that confirmed can celebrate (I'm sure there will be even more fics digging into this now), but pointing that out in the middle of a date is hardly the sexy move this ep's writer seems to think it is? IDK, I'm obviously a Buddie shipper, I like BuckTommy better than any other r/s Buck's had with a non-Eddie person, I do enjoy it as a part of Buck's journey (and I also generally believe in ship and let ship, even when something isn't my endgame), but even if I was a BuckTommy shipper, IDK that I would have liked that line. Especially when it treads a bit close to the issues I had with the BuckAbby r/s, which the show has never properly addressed. Oh, well. I'm still mostly amused that someone thought this was a great flirty line.
"He's 13, he should have a say!" To be heard? Yes. To have the final say? No. He's 13, not 18. There's a reason why at that age, we don't let kids make decisions for themselves yet. Also, the Diaz parents trying to pretend like the fact that Chris suggested him living with them for a while isn't their secret fantasy come true (or that they have no past where they hurt their son with this idea) is just crude. Also, hinting to Eddie that if he doesn't let Chris run away from his problems, then he'll be just like Ramon, is fucked up.
Also, kinda hilarious that Buck and Eddie's daddy issues are both brought up in the same ep. Sometimes being soul mates means exactly that, getting your partner perfectly because you have the same emotional baggage.
So, Chris is leaving, and the first one to talk to him on screen since the Kim debacle, and since he got the green light to go, is Buck? And Buck's also still there for the actual parting moment? Speaking of actual dads rather than bio ones...
I really liked Eddie just hugging Chris, using no words. There might not be anything he can say to fix this right now, but he still loves his son more than anything, and he can still let Christopher know that. And then when the message didn't get through, even though he's not a words person, Eddie managed to verbalize it. Don't mind me, I'll just be bawling quietly in the corner.
Buck's comforting hand on Eddie's shoulder is the real MVP. <3
I'm glad Mara's back in touch with Hen, Karen and Denny, but this feels a bit like a "deus ex machina" moment, even if it's just to wrap up the season finale, and not the final resolution of this storyline.
Bobby and Amir are actually so similar. They both lost everything, they both were at their lowest, they both chose to help others when they had nothing else left to live for. That handshake was a nice ending to their story, and it did feel more "earned" for not coming quickly or easily.
Ha, that ending. It's a good twist of events as a build up for season 8, it's just interesting because 911 doesn't usually do end of season cliff hangers. I also feel like, knowing the show, I can already predict more or less how it will turn out, so I'm not even feeling that much suspense. But it's not a bad turn of events, so long as it works for most viewers, I suppose. Overall, I enjoyed most of season 7, it feels revitalized, better paced and structured (despite being shorter) than seasons 5 and 6, and I have no doubt everyone will flock back to see how things unfold in season 8. Especially when this season was a nice reminder of everything this show can do right, and why we love these characters and fire family so much.
Thank you for reading! If you’re looking for more, you can find my s7 reactions tag here, and more of my Buddie meta and content in my pinned post. xoxox

a list of vague descriptions of doctor x rose fics i’ve read and can’t remember the names of
one where Rose gives Tentoo the cold shoulder post Journey’s End to try and spare him but he gets curious, and finds out Rose and the rest of Torchwood are being forced to work for the daleks—the story’s climax involves daleks asking either Rose or Tentoo to pick a planet to destroy, they put in “coordinates” that initiate a self-destruct sequence, but i’m pretty sure they both survive, if rather injured
one where Rose predicts her own future via drawings; pretty sure it was canon compliant thru Journey’s End and i think it was on teaspoon (whofic)
a WIP that was like 6 chapters long on fanfiction.net where Rose had just taken over her father’s company after he died and she’s so stressed that Donna (her secretary? i think?) recommends she go to this wellness center to see AU!Ten (i think his name is Smith?). oh and Martha works at the center too. but yeah John is like an energy healer or smthn like that?
i think this one was called like Rose on the Vine or smthn and it was on ao3 and had a sequel, but it was an all human AU where Rose was a stripper and keeping it a secret from her friends
a Ten/Rose reunion fic where Rose mentions having run into Eight in Paris while Dimension Hopping and spending the night with him
a Nine/Rose fic where nine has to go to a planet that isn’t human-safe so he makes rose a sonic pen-type thing that can um, simulate different…parts for…fun times
a Ten/Rose reunion!fic where Ten makes it back to Pete’s World, and disguises himself to suss out if Rose is happy/would want to come back. i think it was on teaspoon
a Tentoo/Rose fic where Tentoo has nightmares and Rose gives him this special stone that helps, and eventually he finds out that he’s the one who gave it to Rose in the first place (i think the implication was she was going to kill herself pre-dimension cannon), meaning he has to complete a circular paradox. i remember Tentoo wouldn’t let past Rose touch him bc then she’d know he was human. i think it was on teaspoon. it’s possible this could have been 2 separately posted connected fics and i’m just smushing them into one
a fic where the Doctor and Rose have a daughter before he regenerates into Ten and then he has to get his daughter used to his new face, I think it mostly took place as a telepathic conversation between them? also i think it was on teaspoon
a fic where Ten keeps licking Rose and can taste her emotions, no idea where i read it tho
a fic (2 parts, on i think both teaspoon and ao3) where right after Bad Wolf Bay pt 2 Rose and Tentoo get teleported to an elf-like world where “queen” Rose has to settle a debate about ginger between three farmers and Tentoo is given a red velvet suit and then gets drunk from consuming too much ginger
a 2 chapter fic (on tsp?) where Ten and Rose observe their future selves getting it on in like a meadow on an alien planet and then Ten gets squirrely about fulfilling the circular paradox, saying “time is in flux”. there’s a scene where they’re talking to each other on either side of Rose’s bathroom door. chapter 2 is them going back to complete the paradox
i’ll add more to this post as i randomly remember more fics i neglected to bookmark anywhere
fingers crossed someone sees this post and remembers the name of at least one of these fics!

oh barbed love, consume me (ch. 1)
Pairing: Aemond x F!OC (Malisse)
Warnings: uhm, sexual undertones, mild physical violence, a bit more emotional violence tbh
Summary: a steamy, hot reunion that ends less than ideal
Chapter 2
Malisse jumped off her horse and tossed the reigns to a stable boy.
He caught them, wide-eyed and shocked.
She wasn‘t sure wether it was because she always – always – insisted on taking care of her own horse after riding. Or, if he was shaken by the same thing that also made her feel panicked right now. Well, maybe not entirely the same thing.
Without sparring him another thought she jumped up the steps towards her father‘s keep, as she had done countless times before. It felt good. Easy. Her body still abided her, even though she felt unstable, as if something inbetween her muscles and bones had turned to liquid, kiltering her off-balance.
“Lady Malisse!“ Anytha, her mother‘s maid came towards her, the same fear written on her face she had also seen on the stable boy‘s, though for her it had colored her cheeks in uneven red blotches.
„The prince! I mean the younger one – Prince Aemond – here is here! And he is“ – „I know.“
Malisse was surprised by how easy she sounded. As if the nervousness wasn‘t choking the breath out of her.
Anytha swallowed and took a deep breath, and some of the worried wrinkles seemed to even out on her face.
Well, if Malisse’s rigid appeal worked to calm the servants, that was something, at least.
“It would have been hard to miss the dragon on the meadow outside. Now, where is he?”
”In the small supper room.”
Malisse grasped her dress, so she could lift it up, as she hastened up the stairs, Anytha in her wake.
”My mother?”
”She–“ Anytha’s voice faltered. “She couldn’t.”
“I see.”
Malisse simply replied. She had not expected anything else. They were at the top of the stairs now, and Malisse made sure that the doors to the supper room were closed shut.
They were, and she knew the heavy oak drowned out any noise. She would not be made to whisper and creep around in her own home.
“Make sure she stays in her room. Position guards at her door, if necessary. Haveher dine with Robbet in her chambers tonight – if he can keep is mouth shut, it should help her to calm down. Or even better, make Maester Aelwyn give her some milk of the poppy.”
Anytha bowed her head.
”As you wish, Lady Malisse.”
She hastened off and Malisse took a deep breath, standing in the dim hall.
Usually, she loved castle Stokeworth. It seemed so steadfast, like nothing could disturb the mighty slabs of the stone walls or the giant timber beams of the roof.
The creaking and whisphering of the old castle was as much part of her life as her family was – her serious, silent father and her anxious, slightly madened mother.
Now, she almost flinched when she heard a far-off noise echo down the hall.
For a quick moment she wondered what if he was wandering through these hall right now what if he was looking on from the shadows, listening–
She forbid herself to whip her head around and stare.
Don’t be silly. Don’t let fear rule you.
She raised her head, and pushed open the door.
Aemond was sitting at the fireplace, lean and perfectly poised, just as last time she had seen him.
How could this bastard climb off a dragon’s back and still have not a single knot in his hair?
She clenched her hands into fists to stop herself from reaching for her own hair, which was probably a mess after her unplanned galopp back to the castle.
He turned around, not even bothering to get up as she marched closer.
“Lady Stokeworth. What a pleasurable surprise”, he declared.
She made her way past the long dining table, wordlessly, raised her hand and slapped him across the face.
Aemond was quiet for a moment, clenching his jaw as he turned back to her.
“What – are you doing here?” she snapped.
Slowly, Aemond got up.
With a hint of satisfaction she noted that after all, his perfect hair could get messed up, apparently.
Then, she realized how he towered over her in his dark leathers.
Heavens, had he grown even taller since she had last seen him at court a couple months ago?
She took a step back, or tried to, before his hand closed around her wrist in a tight, merciless grip – but not as merciless as his lilac eye that was glaring down at her.
“Lady Stokeworth. Would you like to give this another try? You are speaking to a prince of the realm, after all.”
She let out a huff.
”No. I am speaking to the guy who buttered me up and took my maidenhood when I was drunk!”
As she spoke she tried to break free of his grip, and it was as if her words had made him flinch, face turning solemn when he suddenly let go.
”You appeared at my door. You asked me”-
“I was drunk”, she repeated. “I was desperate.”
”Oh yes, you were truly desperate“, he shot back.
“What about that time in the Godswood? I thought you were gonna leave welts on that tree with how hard you gripped it.”
He sounded utterly satisfied with himself.
“Or that time in the library. It was your idea, despite you having such a hard time keeping quiet when I” – “Enough!”
He smirked, the corners of his thin, perfectly shaped lips curling up.
She stared at them for a moment.
Goddamnit, a few words off his filthy tongue and she was – she tore her graze from his lips and marched past him, dropping into the chair he had sat in before.
”Again – what are you doing here?”
He turned slowly, taking his sweet time to look around the room before he answered.
”I bring a letter for your father.”
She sat up straighter.
“My father isn’t here, and he won’t be back before nightfall. Give it to me.”
He hummed, tilting his head, thinking.
”No, I don’t think I will”, he replied slowly.
“Aemond” – “Prince Aemond. You know I only allow to you to drop the title when we’re in the sheets, and when you are” – she had jumped up and clasped her hand over his mouth.
He stopped talking, and she could feel his lips curl into that gods-be-damned smirk against her palm.
His face felt hot against her hand, and the heat, the closeness, the smell of him, it all seemed to go straight to her head, and to the pit of her stomach.
She dropped her hand, and his grin grew even wider, while his hands landed at the sides of her waist. His fingers slightly grazed her back, right there where even the lightest touch always sent icy, delicious shivers down her back.
He pulled her closer, so close she felt his breath on her face, so close she could feel the outline of his manhood against his leather pants, even through her dress.
She silently cursed. Even despite her hatred for him, despite her wounded pride she still wanted him.
He took his sweet time as one hand wandered up to her hair, to pull the band away that had kept it back from her face, while his other hand grazed past her breasts, and slowly wandered up over her bare skin, up over the neckline of her dress and up to her throat.
She let him tilt back her head, and the hunger the liquid desire in his gaze made her feel insane, because that was what she was feeling.
Fuck, she thought she had gotten over this. He, on the other hand… She tried to remind herself that to him, she was just one of many.
His desire for her would cease, and turn to arrogance and coldness once he got from her what he wanted.
“So…” she whispered, leaning into his hand around her neck, “what are the contents of that letter?”
It took a moment, then he blinked and his demeanor immediately changed.
”So you haven’t changed. It’s all just a means to an end with you, huh? Always:”
He sounded almost bitter.
Now what in the seven hells was that supposed to mean?
She opened her mouth to ask, but he was quicker.
“Really, you would make for an excellent courtesan. Just a pity your poor father has been cursed with such a whore for a daughter.”
The callously spoken, demeaning words almost punched the breath out of her.
For a moment she contemplated if she should slap him again.
Oh it would certainly feel divine. She wanted to pay him back, wanted to hurt him, like he was hurting her.
But no.
She wouldn’t let him have the satisfaction of knowing how much he could still hurt her.
She straightened her back.
“Call me a whore all you want. I know you would not say no if I asked you to come to bed with me right now. You’re just a hypocrite, sleeping your way through every brothel in KIng’s Landing, with every woman that will have you. I do assume they upcharge you, considering…” she vaguely gestured towards her face, on the side where on his face there was the eyepatch.
It felt cruel to speak these words. It felt destructive and powerful. It hurt herself, because she knew how much it would hurt him. Like fire, that cleaned off all the mess as it destroyed. If he wanted to make her suffer, she would take him right with her.
“I mean, the thing with your eye… it only runs skin deep. But it’s a warning sign. That you’re an abomination.”
She looked at him, and his face was stony. A bit paler, perhaps, but that might as well could have been the light.
“Thank you, Prince Aemond for making this so easy for me. You’ll never again get to touch me. Never.”
She turned around, walking past the fireplace, to the door that led to her family’s quarters.
“So I do hope the memories will keep you warm tonight. But, just in case, shall I have the servants light a fire in one of the guest rooms?”
He was quiet, long enough that she almost began to regret her words, as her anger slowly fizzled out and died down.
“No.” His voice sounded raspy and uneven.
“Well in that case – I assume this is it, then. I wish you a good night. And a good life, prince … or perhaps not.”
She made it halfway down the hallway, she made it until the heavy door shut behind her, then she let her tears run free, stumbling over to lean against the wall, as her legs gave in beneath her.
She had hoped – it had been silly, but only now she realized she had still loved him, had still believed that perhaps, he loved her, or at least appreciated her, too.
She knew the thick oak doors muffled every noise.
And so it was only the familiar creaking of the castle around her that witnessed her sobs and the agony of a freshly broken heart.
In that regard, the castle was witnessing more than just one broken heart.
Stupid, Aemond thought to himself. How did you think anyone could ever love you? Even more so, someone like her?
He had pulled the two letters from his pockets.
He didn’t have to look all that closely, to know which one was which. He had asked the maester to seal one with the king’s sigil, and the other with his own, after all.
The one with the order’s for her father to come to the King’s Landing, he left at the head of the table.
The other one, he threw into the flames of the fireplace, without hesitation.
You fool, he thought to himself again. He had spent nights agonizing over this letter. And even more time fantasizing, planning, imagining what he would say to accompany this letter.
After all, it did not happen everyday that you asked the father of the woman you loved for her hand in marriage.
Aemond watched on long enough to make sure the letter would be consumed by the flames.
Then he turned and left the hall, hastened down the stairs and stepped outside. Heavy dark clouds hang overhead, like a dark omen.
Nothing much worse in the future than what just happened now, Aemond grimly thought as he hastened out the door and towards Vaghar.
She could feel his anger and his pain, and she restless, had torn through some fences and trampled a stable, and she had torched some trees across the meadow.
He didn’t stop to examine the damages. He didn’t care. He climbed on Vaghar’s back, and they raised up towards the stormy sky as rain began to fall.
A/N: like any author, my will to write is directly coupled to my ego, so, feed your local author some crumbs of validation in the form of likes/reblogs/comments/whatevers, if you would like to see more of these two (please i have these unhinged people stuck in my head now and they want to get out and terrorize all of you, too<3)

Dusk 'Till Dawn, I'll Always Be With You
[Honestly, I couldn't think of a better title oh well. Another lore-drop for my Merlin, Celestino but more like a little event that happened in-between canon. This takes place during the Remnants Peak arc, after Merlin and Co. first meet Dionel at the Moon Temple]
[Slight spoiler warning but otherwise enjoy this fic of my Merlin and Dionel meeting again in more private circusmtance to have their reunion♡]
~☆~☆~☆~☆~☆~
After decades since the demise of his only kin by the hands of a formidable Hypogean, Dionel had slowly but surely moved on from his grief of the child. Eventually having come to terms and accepting his offspring's death. He had fought until the very end, that the Celestial knows.
But that didn't mean the sight of his son's body lying limp on the ground in a pool of his own blood while the wretched demon laughed mockingly in its soon short-lived victory didn't shatter his heart from immense sorrow nor incite his rare but deadly fury towards the one who had his son slain.
As days.. years.. go by, Dionel had soon gone to inhabit the Moon Temple that Nakalig, the Moon God, had left behind after his vanishing. Finding solace in its undisturbed nature. Giving him a peace of mind and allowing him to slumber for long periods of time since the days of warring against Hypogeans have long passed. The thoughts and memories of his spawn occasionally flash by in passing thought or in bittersweet reminiscence amidst rounds of malt nectar and deep trow of pondering fleeting philosophical matters that only his son could entertain him on.
Alas, life often works in twisted ways. On one fateful night would he not expect the commotion of ancient golems in his lunar abode that would stir Dionel awake from his peaceful slumber lead to him coming face-to-face with his supposed dead son with his entourage in search for answers. It took all the fibre in his being, his strength and willpower to maintain his composure. Greeting them like nothing is amiss. Discussing the matter of the reawakened golems, strainedly addressing Celestino by his mortal alias, Merlin. Remembering still how the masses do not know the young man's true identity.
However, the look in the Magister's onyx eyes spoke of his long yearning of reuniting with his father once again. Evident so with the hopeful twinkle in his stoic gaze as he looked upon Dionel after decades past. All the more tugging at the older Celestial's heartstrings, bringing him to a state of internal turmoil. Longing to break the facade and embrace his son, his child, who was standing right before him. Even when Celestino and his travel companions left, the glance over his shoulder was indicative to Dionel that their familiarity and connection remained alive and well despite his death and afterlife.
As the moon casted its silvery glow upon the temple, Dionel waited with a heart heavy with anticipation. His composure slowly cracking away at his unbothered facade, giving way to the hidden vulnerability. A flood of emotions over suppressed, brought forth. As if in a dream, though it being the reality, The sounds of footsteps echoed throughout the ancient structure, transcending the stairway until his silhouette appeared against the moonlit night. Having slipped away to see his father while his buddies were asleep in their temporary camp. The calm of the night belied that turmoil swirling within his heart. Celestino's approach only serving to heighten Dionel's emotions. The multitude of feelings storming inside both Celestials.
In the blink of an eye, his son's figure whizzed right towards him before Dionel felt arms wrap around him in a clingy manner akin to a child seeking reassurance. Celestino's head planted against the older's chest. Dionel had braced himself, automatically enveloping him almost protectively as if trying to make up for lost time in a firm yet gentle hold. The feeling of the hug, both familiar and heart-wrenching. Surging through in a mixture of longing, love and relief. Dionel could feel the rapid beating of their hearts merging into a synchronised rhythm as he exhaled a sigh, cradling his son against himself. Burying his face in Celestino's silky hair, taking in the scent of the young man he once held as a baby.
Both Celestials, alive and undead, relished in the feeling of their bodies pressed together. The warmth resonated from father to son as Dionel caressed Celestino's hair gently, both trying to commit every detail of this moment to memory. “My son.. my dear boy..” The older of the two whispered softly, voice filled with much tenderness. Pressing a light kiss atop the younger's head, his expression both affectionate and pained. All the while he could feel the wetness of Celestino's tears spilling as the mage broke down in the hold of his father. Slowly meeting his gaze as he whimpers, sounding more soft than usual, shattered and insecure, “Father..! Father.. I-I thought I would never see you again after w-what happened! I missed you so much..!”
Dionel's heart ached further at the sound of Celestino's broken voice. He gently cupped his son's face in his hands, wiping away the tears that streamed down the young man's cheeks. “I've missed you too, my child.. more than you can ever fathom,” He confessed so in a volume barely above a whisper. His thumbs gently traced the contours of the mage's face, as if trying to memorise every feature once again, “But you're here now… with me.. and that's all that matters..” Seeing the younger Celestial who he usually remembered exuding self-assurance and courage being reduced to a broken mess made the older's chest ache with sorrow and grief.
Dionel then began to rub circles gently onto Celestino’s back to soothe him. His own eyes slowly welling up with tears at the raw emotions evident in his son's voice and action. “When I was granted that second chance to live and- and- reawakened.. I couldn't remember anything at all..! I never want to lose you ever again..!” The younger Celestial's shuddery voice broke his heart, being able to hear the pain within. Prompting him to hug the mage more tightly, drawing him closer to his chest. The sound of the magister's sobs echoed throughout the silent temple, “You won't ever lose me, I swear. From now on, I will be with you as much as possible. We have been separated for far too long.” As Dionel says this, he gently kissed the top of Celestino's head again. His fingers run through his son's hair in an affectionate manner as he can feel the mage's form trembling against him.
Dionel felt an intense wave of guilt and heartache wash over him at the thought of Celestino's amnesia. He cursed the injustice of fate, forcing his son to forget the bond they shared and to an extent even, the existence of his own parent. He could only imagine the trauma and confusion that his boy must have experienced waking up from the dead with none of his memories at all. Tightly holding him one more time, the older of the two eventually pulled away albeit slightly to look into his spawn's tear-filled eyes. Wiping them once more as Celestino struggles to get the words out of his throat. He didn't really need to verbally express it when all that needed to be said was already communicated through his body language. He's just relieved and glad that Dionel also hadn't forgotten about him and still loves him all the same.
With reassurance that this moment of reunion between the two Celestials was real and not just a wistful dream, Celestino's lips curl into a warm shaky smile, “I love you so much, father..” Dionel smiles back softly as he replies while bringing his son into another tight embrace to solidify the moment. “I love you too, my boy. More than words, no matter how eloquent, could even express.”
Once they had their reuniting event under the moonlight, the two pulled away with the woefulness now put aside and instead replaced with overwhelming familial affection and joy that the two are able to be together again. “Now the night is still young after all. Why not, we celebrate this special occasion with each other's company while savouring malt nectar and having a much-needed heart-to-heart, hm?” Dionel suggests so as he leads Celestino inside the interiors of the Moon Temple, the two walking side-by-side with father guiding him the way in as he chuckles deeply and softly beams, “Of course, father. I could really use a drink or two and also enjoy getting to be with you once more.”
With plans set for the night, father and son would whisk it away with good wine and conversation filled with reminiscence, bittersweet nostalgia, rumination of the present and-or perhaps, getting philosophical about even the most mundane of things like they used to.
Just like good old times.

Filling Empty Spaces (Amy/Mitch), part 235
Mitch and Amy find an unexpected connection due to absent lovers. Set around season 11->.
A/N: I didn’t have a beta for this story, so hopefully there won’t be too many grammar errors.
****
After some heart to heart and few spliced barbed wires later, Mitch was packing things up by the horses.
Garrett lingered by the fence, looking at the horses that were grazing on the other side, a little further away. To Mitch, it seemed like his father was back to his element, appreciating all the little details in the nature, just like during in their camping days.
"Thanks for the help", Mitch said as he put the crimp tool inside the saddle bag. He then removed his working gloves and fiddled their leathery surface under his fingers as he walked toward the other man.
"Ah, I hardly did anything", Garrett said, shaking his head. He almost felt bad for not being more active.
Mitch glanced at him. "I didn't just mean with the fence."
Garrett turned to look at him, noticing how Mitch's eyes had softened up. He realized his son was making a nod to their conversation.
"Oh.... Well, of course - I'm glad to help", he replied.
Mitch nodded, knowing that.
That was something he got from his dad; the willingness to help if there was any way that he could.
"Hey, did you notice that dark horse looking at us?" Garrett had to ask. He gestured toward the pasture opening in front of them.
Mitch thought maybe his dad was talking about Diablo for a moment, even though this wasn't where the leader of the wild herd usually spent his time, but then he realized his father was looking at the horses on Heartland's side of the fence.
More precisely, he was talking about Spartan.
"Oh...?" Mitch let out as he had not noticed that till now.
He then witnessed Spartan holding his head up high as he was sniffing the air and hoping to catch more of their smell.
"Yeah. He was watching us work. The other horses were happily grazing, but he... I don't know, it was like he was more curious to see us. Maybe he's the boss and is trying to keep them all safe."
"Hmm, yeah, I don't know", was all Mitch could reply.
He knew Spartan - and the horse knew him - but he wasn't sure if they had made him alert or if the horse was just being nosy.
Mitch then put his index finger and thumb into his mouth and pushed them in until they touched his tongue. He took a deep breath and closed his mouth around his fingers, letting the air come out in the sound of a whistle.
He had often used this same technique when working at Heartland and the horses had come to know it as a call to come to him when they were grazing further.
Not long after, Spartan wasn't the only horse who had their head up, but he was the only one who immediately began to come closer. At first it was just few, careful steps, as if to check if this was what Mitch was after.
"Yeah. Come on, Spartan!" Mitch beckoned him. "Come here, boy!"
Garrett watched as the horse reacted to Mitch's call and hurried his pace. "An old friend, huh?" he asked, the side of his mouth curving up.
"Something like that..." Mitch replied, smiling too.
Eventually Spartan was trotting toward them and had his tail up, showing clear signs of excitement.
As Mitch watched him approach, he wondered if the horse was happy to see him. It would have been heartwarming as it was, but something about Spartan being Amy's horse... this type of reunion made him emotional.
But his illusion was quickly shattered as Spartan came to them and instead of coming to greet the cowboys, he slowed down and walked closer to Maverick, letting out a low neigh.
Mitch turned his head and saw Maverick's ears perk just before his body tensed up and he whinnied back to his friend.
"Maybe it was the horses", Garrett finally figured out. "He was probably aware they were here, even if he couldn't see them at first."
Mitch laughed, realizing how much he was caught up in his own head. He had really thought for a while that maybe Spartan had been missing him, but the horse had actually just wanted to come and greet his trail ride buddy, Maverick.
But then again, that was maybe even more heartwarming.
For a while now, Mitch had often met up with Amy around these parts and they had always had their horses with them. Most of the time they took short trail rides, but sometimes they just met up and enjoyed sitting in the grass while the two horses were close-by, spending time together as well.
Now that Mitch thought about, it wasn't that strange to think maybe they had formed a bond too.
"Looks like it..." Mitch finally commented, giving them time to catch up with each other.
Even though Spartan's focus had been on Maverick, looking at him now brought Amy closer to Mitch and the man found great comfort in that.
There was no doubt that if Spartan was missing Maverick, he was missing Amy too - just like Mitch was.
Longing for her was an emotion they both shared.
****
Later that same day at Heartland, some minutes before stepping inside the barn, Jack heard low whirring sounds from that direction as he was on his way to fetch his wife, Lisa, for supper.
The patriarch frowned and walked closer to inspect the source of the sounds. He didn't have any recollection of any type of undergoing renovations, so whatever was going on, it wasn't happening with his approval.
When he stepped inside the building, Jack saw Lisa standing in front of one of the stalls, her eyes fixated on the iPad she had on her hand. She was not the one using the power drill, but she had to be aware of it being used as she was standing close to the origin of the noise.
"What's goin' on over here...?" Jack asked.
Lisa's eyes turned toward him and she witnessed her husband walking closer, slowly but surely.
The man had a curious look on his face, but after being married to Jack for years now, Lisa already knew the look hid another emotion under it too - some type of disapproval.
"Oh, Trace and I are just getting a camera installed", Lisa explained briefly, her tone slow as half of her brain was focused on the installation of an app used to help with the camera that was happening on the screen she had in front of her.
Jack walked closer, with his sway-like pacing, and noticed their new ranch hand on a small ladder that he used to prop himself up so he could attach a small camera on the upper corner of a stall that used to belong to Harley, but was now being used for Venus.
"A camera...? What for?" Jack wondered.
"Well, it's for the upcoming foaling", Lisa informed him.
Jack frowned again and looked at his wife. "That's months away, Lis. Don't you think this is a little... premature?"
Lisa's eyes sharply shot up to Jack.
And there it was.
The disapproval.
"Well, yes, it's months away, but it's never too early to start prepping for it, especially because you rarely have foalings here. If this was Fairfield, I wouldn't have to--"
Jack grimaced, like it was a knee-jerk reaction.
He could already see where this was headed and so he smacked his mouth and rolled his eyes a little before Lisa could finish.
"I know, I know. Heartland doesn't compare to Fairfield..."
This was a complaint he often heard from Amy and now with Lisa living here at the ranch, she didn't let him forget either. Both of them wished to expand the barn or have more room to run the business where as Jack preferred to keep it small, like it had always been.
Lisa looked at Jack with a stunned expression.
"Well, yes", she said, highlighting the obvious, but she didn't like what her husband was implying. "Trace, can you excuse us for a minute...?" Lisa requested from the ranch hand.
The young man looked at them, holding the drill, and was about to argue that he still wasn't finished, but he saw that a bigger argument was coming and that was gonna be between this married couple, so he quickly took the hint, nodded and got down from the ladder.
"I'll go check the water outside, if you need me", he said to Lisa before leaving and placing the drill on one of the feed bins on his way out.
"Thanks", Lisa said, her eyes following him leaving and when Trace turned the corner, her stare returned to Jack. "My comment about Fairfield wasn't criticism to you - or Heartland. It was just a fact. I had that place prepared for anything - I had to - otherwise I would have been out of business really fast."
"But this isn't your business, Lis", Jack reminded. "This is our home."
Lisa tilted her head back ever-so-slightly and took in a breath.
"Is it...?" she almost laughed at the irony of her husband's words. "Because it seems I can't do any changes around here and yet I'm supposed to call this a home. It's just a camera, Jack, it's not altering the place that much."
"I just wish you would have ran the idea by me first", Jack expressed his disappointment.
Lisa sighed, letting her shoulders fall as a sign of defeat. The fatigue of the past few days was visible on her face.
"I don't know what I'm supposed to do here. You're supposed to be retired, and Amy is supposed to run the business, but... she's at the hospital, and you're back to worrying about how things work around here. -- I made a promise to her; I promised to look after Venus and her foal as best I could."
"And I'm sure you will", Jack said, feeling for his wife. They were all a little lost here, but he still didn't appreciate Lisa using this opportunity to sneak in and do whatever she wanted without consulting him first. "But I don't think you need to worry about that horse just yet. At least, not this much. And we don't know what will happen with Amy; who knows, maybe she'll be back to running things next week", he offered, trying to stay hopeful.
"Exactly. What am I supposed to do till that happens - or if that even happens?" Lisa wanted to know, her desperation making her voice shaky. "Everything is on hold... You and I were supposed to be working toward moving out into our house by the river, but I've had to tell the guys we don't know what happens next, so they're not actively working on anything. Our house isn't being built. Instead we are still here at Heartland, where I can't even install a camera without getting you angry!"
Jack sighed, understanding Lisa's frustration now more. He knew her to be someone who didn't just stop and wallow in things, even if the whole world was falling apart around her. The way she dealt was trying to fix what she could.
Nodding repeatedly, Jack took a step forward. "Okay, okay. I understand. And I'm sorry. I just... I wish you would have asked, that is all."
Lisa didn't feel like backing down as she didn't think she had done anything that bad. She truly believed that Amy would have agreed with this decision.
"I need to know", Lisa began firmly, turning toward Jack, "do you just see me as a guest here? And be honest; I rather hear a wounding truth than a hurtful lie."
Jack wanted to deny Lisa's insecurities, but he knew he couldn't completely do that and he felt guilty about that.
"No - but I can't deny this has been hard for me. Not because of you, but because of who I am. I've been running this place so long now, it's hard to let go and allow people to take over. Not just because of what I wanted for this ranch, but also what the people before me wanted for Heartland; I'm trying to honor that. I'm trying my best, Lis, I really am..."
"Okay", Lisa said, appreciating Jack's honesty even when it wasn't complimentary to her situation. "And the house by the river... How do you feel about that?" she asked, wondering if maybe he was somewhat enjoying "being stuck at Heartland" for the time being even if he, too, was having hard time with Amy being in the hospital.
Jack rubbed his chin, taking a minute to think about it.
"There's a part in me that struggles leaving this place behind, yes", Jack said first, "but that place... it's special to me, it always has been. And you're special to me, so... the house by the river with you couldn't be more perfect for me. And I hope it'd be for you too. For us."
Lisa felt some relief, but she also couldn't sigh just yet.
"But...?" she guessed.
"Well, there's no "but", really", Jack said, bringing his hands on Lisa's shoulders to gently sooth her.
Lisa gazed back at him as he continued.
"Just... I wish we wouldn't have to wait too long, because if this whole thing has reminded me of anything - again - it's that we never know how long we get to enjoy this life of ours. I'm eager to get the next phase started", Jack spoke. "But with what's going with Amy, it's hard to allow myself to dream about that. I feel guilty for wishing anything for us, when the biggest thing I wish right now would be to get Amy back", he admitted, tears forming in his eyes.
"I know", Lisa said, feeling sad about it too. She wrapped her arms around her husband, adjusting the iPad flatly against his back. "That's probably why I'm so fixated on Venus - on top of taking care of Lyndy. Looking after the horse is what she wanted me to do, so... at least I know it's something I know I can do right now. It helps me feel like she's here."
"I get it", Jack murmured against Lisa's hair and closed his eyes. "I'm not really upset about the camera, I understand why you think it's a good idea. Forget I even said anything. I guess I feel so helpless myself, so I feel like I need to control something... But that something shouldn't be you."
"It's just few screws, it's not going to alter the barn that much", Lisa wanted to remind him.
"I know. It's okay. All's good", Jack said, then leaning back and gently brushing the side of Lisa's cheek and chin with his thumb. It made Lisa smile through the tears. "Maybe you can continue after supper?" he suggested. "Lou's fixed us something to eat."
"Yeah, I guess I could eat. Not like the app is done installing, anyway", Lisa agreed and took Jack's hand. "Let's go."

[Did this prompt Tobyn to threaten his life? Yes, but it wasn’t anything Phil hadn’t heard before.] I love this kid too. Should I be worried that Phil has heard many threats upon his life. What has this man done to get where he is now?
[To his surprise, Quackity also petitioned Phil to see him, and took the refusal less gracefully than his counterpart did.] taking bets on his intentions now. Was he going to A) apologise. B) try and get Wilbur to not sell him out. C) kiss him or D) all of the above (I’m sure I missed a few options).
[He’s a lot smarter than most give him credit for] Phil figured. And Wilbur will soon confirm. [Phil didn’t even spare a glance at Tomys.] again this kid is not important to Phil unless Wilbur can gain something from it (like his undying loyalty while he has a crown on his head). This line makes that painfully clear.
[When his eyes met Phil’s though, he flinched.] Hi, I would like to file a formal complaint.
[“I’m sorry,” Wilbur blurted out, looking as though he was struggling to stay conscious. “I didn’t see- I didn’t know-”/“It’s okay, Wil. You did well,” Phil reassured him, resting a hand on his cheek./Wilbur blinked a few times as if he wasn’t sure he’d heard Phil right. Then, whatever tension he’d still been holding onto seemed to snap, and he slumped into Phil’s hold as his eyes fluttered shut.] I am going to explode (I am currently waiting for Icy to read this chapter so I can watch nym explode as well).
[“Your father will be glad to hear you’re alright. He was saying what a waste it would’ve been-”] yk, Phil is not looking at him, but I want to know what Tomys was looking at. Did he see the hug? Was he jealous? Did he want that too. Cuz this would suck. But I’m not sure he would even want a hug from his own father. Especially given the whole “did not tell me I am now a possible heir to the throne” thing. But I do need to know if Tomys saw that hug and what he felt if he did, because I doesn’t really match up with how Wilbur talks about his father.
[“I think I broke my leg,” Wilbur then said, eyes still closed as he grimaced./“We’ll get that fixed for you. Don’t worry,” Phil reassured him, carding his fingers as best he could through the tangled curls on top of his head, “it’s okay now. I got you.”] *distant screaming* also Wilbur’s first line made me giggle so bad. But I am genuinely insane about the hair thing and the parallels. Phil has been thinking about that the entire time and it’s basically the first thing he does.
(I wonder if Phil did not want anyone else there because he did not want anyone to see his weakness, his love for his son, which could be used against him and in turn would bring that son in danger. Or if he really just does not want to share. Part of it is genuine concern too because we knew he was going to let Wilbur sleep first should he have come back when he was meant to.)
Lastly, [It was time to handle Schlatt.] murder Murder MURDER

oh yeah phil has heard a lot of death threats before. gotta love tubbo not giving a shit that phil is literally the consil and instead just being like "fuck you I want to see my best friend"
hmm what were quackity's intentions I suppose you'll see in the next chapter :)
yup, phil doesn't give two shits about tommy in any real way. he only cares about what tommy can offer them in terms of power. tommy as a person means nothing to him. he just wants to make sure his son is okay.
father son reunion yayyyyy poor wilbur 😭
oh yeah, tommy saw the hug. he definitely had thoughts about it, but he was also a bit more focused on seeing puffy again and also his own exhaustion after spending a week in the mountains
I had to include the hair thing again phil might suck at showing emotion but damn if he doesn't love his son
phil both wanted his reunion with his son to be as private as possible, but also he genuinely didn't want to overwhelm wilbur. he knew that niki would want to talk to him and make sure he was alright, and since quackity wanted in as well he had a feeling quackity would do the same. he didn't know how badly injured wilbur was and what state he was in, so he didn't want him to get freaked out by a ton of people clambering around him asking if he was okay.

Mail Order Bride, Part 8: Arrivals and Departures
Pairing: Sheriff!McCoy x Paige Stone (OFC). Other characters: Nyota Uhura, Deputy Jim Kirk, Eleanora McCoy, Donna McCoy. Evan, Lyla, Jacob, Tyler (Stone family OCs), Doc Anderson
Word Count: 8540
General warnings: As the title implies, mail-order bride arrangement, parent’s illness, outlaws, overprotective sister, Wild West-level violence but some fluff as well. Each chapter will have individual warnings as needed.
Chapter warning: Talk of pregnancy, probably still more medical inaccuracy, confrontation with ex, reunion with family, Leonard being just the best husband ever, parental death
A/N: This is set around the 1930′s in the Western U.S. I will endeavor to remain as true to the historical timeline as I can. There may be some....bending of history to fit the narrative, but hopefully nothing major. This is, after all, a work of fiction. :) Please let me know if you’d like to be tagged in future chapters!
A/N 2: This is longer than my other chapters, I know. I thought about splitting into two, but the title wouldn't have worked if I did. It's one of the most personal things I've ever written. In this chapter, my art is imitating my life, and I'm sure you'll understand what I mean when you read it. As always, thank you for reading, and on with the show. ❤
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Tears of joy brimmed in Lyla's eyes at seeing her firstborn after such a long absence. "My darling girl," she replied softly, and held her arms out to beckon her daughter to her side. With Leonard's help, Paige carefully lowered herself to sit on the edge of the mattress. She leaned forward as far as her stomach would allow, but she was still within her mother's reach. "Oh, my sweet girl, I can't believe you're here," she sobbed, then gasped as she looked closer. "And you're pregnant?!"
Paige nodded and felt the waves of emotion crashing over her all at once, from being back in her childhood home and seeing her family again. Mother and daughter embraced another few moments and then pulled back. Paige felt Leonard's hand on her knee as he crouched beside her, his thumb caressing the area. She covered his other hand with her own and gave him a watery smile.
Lyla turned to Evan and insisted that she wanted to join the others on the main floor of the house. He tried to discourage the idea, stating that she needed to rest, but Lyla wouldn't hear of it. She was tired of being cooped up in bed, and she was eager to hear more about the handsome man who accompanied her daughter on such a long journey. Evan finally relented and helped his wife walk out of their room, while Leonard assisted Paige.
By the time the four of them arrived in the living room, everyone was occupied with some sort of activity. Two were reading, while the rest were locked into either playing or watching an intense game of chess. Evan helped to get Lyla situated in her chair, as Leonard did for Paige but on the sofa. Jacob brought each of them a glass of lemonade, then took his perch on the arm of the sofa and flashed an expectant look to his sister.
She rolled her eyes at Jacob before clearing her throat for her announcement. "Everyone, I would like you to meet my husband, Leonard McCoy. Len, this is my family." When she called each sibling's name, Leonard acknowledged them with a wave or a nod. Her younger sisters were shy and giggly, as she expected they would be. In contrast, her brothers tried to appear as her "protectors", puffing out their chests to appear stern and tough. She secretly smiled, but also rolled her eyes at their antics.
"Mama, Papa, I know the contract said I would be marrying a man named Matthews," she started, her father nodding in agreement. Paige explained what kind of man Jed Matthews was, and how he met an unfortunate end after getting caught cheating at cards. She mentioned how she didn't know about any of Jed's shortcomings until she was saved by the sheriff, Leonard, at the train station.
After the shock wore off, Leonard quickly assured his in-laws that it wasn't their fault Jed had lied in his advertisement. He told them he admired Paige for what she was doing and her reasons for it. It made him want to do what was right for her and her family by taking over the contract. "I didn't expect to fall for her," he admitted with a sheepish grin. "However, she had my heart almost from the get-go. And it sure didn't hurt that she was the prettiest and kindest woman I'd ever met," he winked at Paige, causing her to blush.
Evan and Lyla could see how much in love their daughter was with her husband, reminding them a bit about their own courtship. It might not have been the most traditional of beginnings, but they knew Paige had a good man by her side. Because she trusted him, they silently agreed to do the same and officially welcomed Leonard into the family.
***
After a dinner of spaghetti and garlic bread, Tyler and the younger kids took care of the dishes. Once that chore was finished, Paige was roped into a friendly game of Monopoly with her siblings. Leonard chose instead to watch, so he could keep close to his wife and make sure she was comfortable. Between turns, Paige's and sometimes Leonard's hands roamed over her stomach as if to soothe the baby growing inside.
Throughout the game, Evan and Lyla sat their respective chairs, soaking up the atmosphere. Even though there were a few heated moments, the jabs traded between siblings were all in the spirit of the game. At one point, Evan glanced at his wife, who had a contented smile on her face as she watched her children laugh amongst themselves.
He couldn't help the grin that spread across his own face as he turned towards Lyla. "You are so beautiful when you smile, my darling," he noted.
Lyla chuckled softly. "Thank you, my love. I am....so happy right now. All of my children, together, under one roof, enjoying each others' company. Our eldest daughter is married to a good, strong, kind man, and she's having his child. My heart is full, Evan. This is one of the most perfect moments I could ever hope for, and I don't want to miss a second of it." She reached over and held out her hand, palm up, which he took in his and gave it a gentle squeeze.
***
A few days later, Paige and Leonard volunteered to do the grocery shopping for the family. Her sisters, Charlotte, Holly, and Molly, along with her youngest brother, Eddie, asked to accompany them. The girls insisted that they knew best what was needed at the house, while Paige wanted to make sure that Eddie was included.
When the kids asked if they could tag along, Leonard shrugged and quipped, "the more, the merrier," as he held the door open for his wife. They borrowed Evan's 1932 Chevrolet Confederate BA, since it was big enough to fit them all. He gave Paige a wink and a smile before closing her door and settling into the driver's seat.
Once inside the store, Leonard decided they should split the grocery duties. "Us men will handle the butcher's counter, while you ladies get started on the rest. That sound good to you, little man?" he asked Eddie. The young man's eyes grew wide as he gravely nodded and gave Leonard the thumbs-up. Leonard patted him on the shoulder, then gave Paige a long kiss on the cheek. "See you soon, darlin'," he grinned.
"Well, girls, looks like we have our work cut out for us," Paige told her sisters, smiling as the "men" walked away. Her eyes followed the pair and watched as her brother grabbed Leonard's hand, causing him to look down at Eddie. Before they disappeared around a corner, her husband shot her a mischievous wink and a small wave. She felt the tears forming in her eyes, knowing that, without a doubt, Leonard was going to be an amazing father.
"Sissy?" Charlotte piped up. Paige hummed in response, finally tearing her eyes away to focus her attention on her sister. "Are you having a boy or a girl?" she asked.
"Oh, Charlie, I won't know until the baby is born," she explained.
"What if you're having twins, like us?" Holly gasped excitedly.
"I am NOT having twins, Holls," she chuckled. "Twins would be wonderful, but it won't be this time around. I'm sure Doc Anderson would've told us by now if there were two babies instead of only one." Paige marked off a few more items on the list and massaged her lower back. She was about to head for the next aisle when she heard someone call for her from behind.
"Oh, my goodness, Paige? Paige Stone is that you?" the voice exclaimed. It was one that Paige would recognize anywhere, especially after all of the nasty remarks that had ever been thrown in her direction.
Paige cringed as she stopped in her tracks, her hands tightly curled around the shopping cart handle. She took a few deep breaths as she tried to keep her stress to a minimum for the baby's sake. "Hello, Abigail," she finally managed.
Abigail gave Paige the once-over from head to toe, her eyes finally landing on Paige's midsection. "Hmm, I see congratulations are in order! You do know who the father is, don't you?" she snickered.
Before Paige's outrage could take hold, a man approached Abigail's cart squinting at a piece of paper in his hand. "Darling, I found the list you were looking for. We should start with--" Thomas abruptly ended his statement and replaced it with a question. "Paige? Paige Stone? What on earth are you doing back in Columbus?"
By this time, Paige's patience had reached its end. "First of all, it's Paige McCoy, if you don't mind," she snapped. "I left here and got married almost a year ago. I live happily in Boulder, Colorado with my husband, and he happens to be the sheriff," she retorted. "Second, I only came back for a visit and to introduce him to my family. Not that it should matter at all to either of you."
"Is that a fact? Well, I had heard that you left town, but no one knew exactly why. I mean, there were so many rumors, it's hard to know what the truth really is. So, tell us, Mrs. McCoy, where is this husband of yours?" Abigail sneered, then leaned in close to Paige. "You know, I don't think there is a Mr. 'Sheriff-of-Boulder' McCoy husband. I think you made him up. You're wearing a fake wedding ring and only telling people you're married to avoid the disgrace of being an unwed mother out in public," she hissed.
"Excuse me?" a deep voice from behind them demanded. Everyone turned to see that Leonard and Eddie had returned from the butcher counter. He stood with his arms crossed over his broad chest, eyes narrowed at Thomas. "Is there some sort of problem here?"
"What business is it of yours? Who in the world are you anyway?" Thomas scoffed.
Leonard's face darkened at the other man's attitude. "I'm her husband, Sheriff Leonard McCoy, if you don't mind," he replied evenly.
Thomas audibly gulped. "W-well, you see, Paige and I are old friends who happened to run into each other after a long time," he stammered.
"You know, in my experience, 'old friends' usually don't make baseless accusations about a fake marriage. I don't take kindly to people who think it's okay to harass my wife. No one--and I mean, no one--has the right to speak to my wife like that." He snaked a protective arm around Paige's waist and tucked her into his side as he glared at Thomas and Abigail.
Paige glanced up and locked eyes with him and mouthed the words, "thank you" to her husband. Then he kissed the side of her head and mumbled "I love you" against her skin.
"W-well, we have a lot to do today, but perhaps we can chat some other time. Come on, Abigail, let's get our shopping done," Thomas insisted, gently tugging his wife's elbow. "Congratulations, Paige. On your marriage, and um....everything," he hastily added, then steered his wife away from the scene.
Leonard hooked a finger under Paige's chin and tilted it up to catch a glimpse of her warm hazel eyes behind her wire-rimmed spectacles. "You okay, sweetheart?" he asked.
"Of course I am, my love," she replied. After a peck on the lips from her husband, she returned her attention to the task at hand. "Okay, now that they're gone, what's next on our list?"

That night as they lay snuggled together in bed, their talk turned to the events at the grocery store. Leonard laughed at Holly's question about having twins, and how Charlotte wanted to know whether it was a boy or girl. "Son or daughter, makes no difference to me, only that he or she is healthy and so are you," he remarked.
Paige smiled and patted his chest. "That's exactly the way I feel as well," she murmured. "I saw Eddie take your hand on the way to the butcher's counter. I thought that was so sweet, Len," she whispered. "He's always been kind of quiet, being the youngest of eight, but I've never seen him take so easily to someone he just met. Means he trusts you, and that's one of the ways I know you're going to be an incredible father."
Leonard's heart swelled at hearing his wife's praise. He admired how easily she interacted with her brothers and sisters, with understanding, kindness and love. It reinforced what he already knew, which was that she would make an outstanding mother. "Say, who was that woman who was giving you so much trouble in the grocery store?"
She snorted with disgust at remembering the earlier incident. "Ugh. Her? That was Abigail Forrester, now Abigail Morgan, Thomas' wife. He decided to end the relationship with me in favor of one with her," she muttered.
"He let you go? Then I suppose I should send him a fruit basket, or thank you card, or something, because he really did me a huge favor," he affirmed with a laugh. When he saw the shocked and annoyed look on Paige's face, he quickly moved to clarify his thoughts. "I-I mean, he broke your heart, which I should punch him for, but if he hadn't ended things with you, we might never have met."
"Hmm, I suppose you have a point," she replied grudgingly. "I can't even imagine my life without you in it, and I don't want to, either."
"Darlin', a world without you is one I don't want to live in. The only place I want to be is where you are mine and I am most definitely yours." He curled his arm around his wife to pull her closer for a kiss that quickly turned passionate. "I love you, Paige."
"I love you, Leonard. Sweet dreams, my love." She reached behind her to turn off the light and closed her eyes.

Soon it was time for the McCoys to begin their return trip back to Boulder, Colorado. The entire Stone family insisted on seeing them off at the depot, including Lyla. Accepting her decision was not without some difficulty on Evan's and Paige's part, each encouraging her to stay home and rest. However, Lyla maintained that she felt well enough, and would therefore accompany them to the station.
With the luggage situated on top of the car, everyone piled in as best as possible, and they journeyed to the train station. Paige and Leonard were on the receiving end of many hugs that day, from siblings and parents. She could tell that her husband was still a bit overwhelmed with all the attention from her large family as compared to his smaller one. Nevertheless, she happily noted that he had relaxed a bit as compared to when they first arrived.
Finally, it was Evan's and Lyla's turn to say their last goodbyes before it was time to board the train. Leonard stuck his hand out to Paige's father, who grasped it and pulled him into a fierce hug. "You're a good man, Leonard McCoy," Evan remarked, his voice gruff with emotion. "I know I don't need to tell you to take care of my daughter. But, as her father, I'm required to remind you," he chuckled.
"I understand, and thank you, sir. You have my word that I will do everything in my power to take care of Paige. You and Lyla did a great job of raising her, and she's the best thing that's ever happened to me. I hope you and some or all of the family can visit after the baby is born," Leonard suggested.
"We'll do our best, though a lot of that depends on Lyla and her health. She's a strong woman, God love her, and she's battling this with all she's got. I know she'll keep fighting so she can meet her grandbaby at some point," Evan remarked.
A few feet away, mother and daughter were exchanging their goodbyes. "I'm so proud of you, Paige. You found yourself a wonderful man who loves you, and now you're going to be a mama, too," she gave her a watery smile.
"I'm scared, Mama," Paige whispered. "I mean, what if I can't do this? What if I'm not fit to be a mother?"
Lyla cradled her daughter's face in her hands and locked eyes with her. "Darling, listen. You've had plenty of practice with your brothers and sisters, and they love you. I have faith that you can do this, that you will be an amazing mother. Trust yourself and trust that husband of yours, and you'll be all right, sweetheart," she whispered, a few wayward tears sliding down her face.
Paige nodded and covered her mother's hands with her own. "I love you, Mama," she choked out.
"I love you too, my sweet girl," Lyla answered, touching her forehead to Paige's and took a deep breath. By this time, the men had joined them. Sensing the heavy exchange of emotions, Evan and Leonard put their arms around their wives in a kind of group hug.
When the conductor bellowed out the last call, Leonard and Paige broke away and reluctantly boarded the train. They found their seats, which had a window that faced the platform. As the train pulled away, everyone waved frantically until they were out of sight. Evan gathered his family and shuffled back to the car to go home. Although the house felt a little empty without Paige and Leonard, the family took solace in the new memories made from the visit.
***
In the weeks since the McCoys returned home, Leonard was kept busy training his two new deputies, Carter Davis and Pavel Chekov. At the same time, Paige was occupied with setting up the nursery. Leonard and Jim had placed the crib against the wall, with a changing table at one end and a chest of drawers next to it. Little by little, Paige had been washing the baby clothes and blankets she had received thus far and placing them in the drawers.
Nyota and Christine were only too happy to help their dear friend as they fawned over the tiny clothes and shoes of various sizes being added to the drawers. Sometimes Donna and Eleanora would visit as well, often leading to Leonard coming home to a house full of giggling women. He didn't mind at all, because he knew Paige needed the distraction and companionship while he was at work.
Fortunately, his deputies were doing well enough in their training that he was able to leave the office a bit early one day. He was looking forward to seeing his wife after some of the long hours he'd been working. Before leaving town, he stopped at the florist for a bouquet of assorted blooms that he hoped would brighten her day.
However, when Leonard walked in the door, he was met with silence rather than the usual group of chattering women. Since this was unusual, he called out for Paige. He didn't hear anything at first, so he called her name again, straining his ears as he walked further into the house. That was when he heard a soft, "in here" from his wife. A strangled sob escaped with it, accompanied by a sniffle coming from the direction of the kitchen.
Paige was sitting at the table, her hands rubbing absently over her ever-growing stomach. She was brokenly humming what he surmised was a lullaby, tears streaming down her cheeks. He watched as her hands stopped and she dropped her head into her hands. Her shoulders began to shake with silent sobs and Leonard could stand it no longer.
He lightly knocked on the doorframe because he wanted to make her aware of his presence without startling her. Paige gasped in surprise, her fingertips hastily wiping the tears from her eyes. "Uh, L-Len, you're home early. Is everything okay?" she asked, flustered.
Leonard moved further into the kitchen and placed the bouquet on the table. He knelt between Paige's legs, one hand resting on her thigh and reached up with the other to cradle her face. "I believe I should be asking you that, darlin'," he remarked. Then he held out his arms and Paige wasted no time in throwing her arms around his neck. She clung to him as closely as she could at this stage in her pregnancy.
His hand stroked the back of her head as her sobs shook her body. "Oh, sweetheart, what's going on in that pretty head of yours?" he murmured.
After a few minutes, her cries had subsided to mostly sniffles. Paige drew back so she could wipe her cheeks and face her husband. "I....I was thinking about Mama today. Been doing that a lot since we've been back, trying to prepare myself. Because sooner or later, this illness of hers is going to run its course."
"Baby, I know you're probably still a little shaken up after seeing her. Maybe because you haven't been there to know the extent of how her illness has affected her. She's still here, though, and fightin' so hard to stay here," he affirmed.
"But, I have to face the fact that someday, she's not going to be here. And it's not fair, Len! There's so much she'll miss, like birthdays, anniversaries, and seeing my brothers and sisters grow up. I....and what about our child? Will she even be here to meet him or her?" she cried.
"Darlin', I wish to God I knew the answer to that question. And you're right, it isn't fair. Not to you, or your mama, or anyone. I can only imagine how hard this is for you and your family to be experiencing, and I wish you didn't have to," he responded.
"I know, I wish it wasn't this way as well. I can't even fathom what my father's going through, watching the love of his life battling for every breath. Knowing that one day, she won't be there across the table or on the other side of the bed from him," she added softly.
Leonard pulled her even closer, flush with his chest and his chin resting on top of her head. "It would leave a terrible achin' in my heart if for some reason you were gone from my life," he shared. "I don't know if that's somethin' I'd ever get over."
"I feel the same, Len. You're in my heart and my soul, and a hurt like that would take a long time to get over, not that I ever could. I just wish there was something more I could do for her, for them. I'm the oldest, I feel like I need to step up and take charge and help out. Only, we have our life here as well," Paige noted.
"Sugar, the time will come when your help will be needed, though maybe not in the most obvious ways," he offered. He felt her head nod against his chest in response.
Paige noticed the bouquet on the table and caught Leonard's gaze, flashing him a shy smile. "Are those for me?" she wondered.
Without breaking eye contact, he nodded and grazed her cheek with the back of his hand. "Though no flower in the world could ever match your beauty, my love," he murmured.
"You sure are a smooth talker, Leonard McCoy," she replied with a wry grin. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, sugar," he returned as he caught her in his embrace once again.
***
The next couple of months pass without much incident, with Paige's body continuing to grow as she drew ever nearer to her due date. During that time, she made sure that the house was spotless, as if preparing for a royal visit. If she wasn't scrubbing or sweeping something, she was rearranging the nursery, anything to keep herself busy.
Leonard tried to convince her that everything was perfect, and that she was only going to make herself more tired. Fortunately, his mother explained that Paige was "nesting", which was completely normal and part of getting ready for the baby. She stated that the best he could do would be to support her and keep her from becoming completely exhausted during this phase. There would be time for that later, while bringing his son or daughter into the world.
As she neared her approximate due date, Paige began to experience some of the symptoms of the first stages of labor that Dr. Anderson described. It started slowly, with some tightening around her midsection that lasted for a moment or two, then subsided, only to return some time later. She alternated between wanting to sit down and relax to feeling restless and going for a walk around the house. Then there were the endless trips to the bathroom at all hours. She was almost to the point where she considered sleeping in the bathtub, if only to be nearer to the toilet.
On one of these nights, Paige felt the urge, so she carefully eased out of bed so as not to wake her husband. As soon as she stood, she experienced a gush of fluid from between her legs. This was followed by a sharp stab in her abdomen, causing her to cry out in pain. At her outburst, Leonard jolted out of bed and rushed to her side. He helped her to the chair in their room while he regained his bearings and focused on the next steps.
"It's all right, sweetheart, you're going to be okay," he soothed. "I'll be right back, I'm just going to get something to clean you up," he winked then ran off to the bathroom. He returned with a warm wet washcloth and helped her into a change of clothes. "Let's get you back in bed and as comfy as possible, then I'll call Doc Anderson."
With Leonard's assistance, Paige got back into bed, with several pillows stacked behind her to keep her sitting upright. It wasn't long before there was another sharp pain to her midsection. She gripped the sheets, attempting to ride out the wave of extreme discomfort she was feeling. Her breaths were coming out in short bursts as a way to manage the contraction until it eventually subsided.
Once he was sure Paige was stable, Leonard kissed her forehead and ran downstairs to the phone to call Doc Anderson. The physician relayed some instructions and promised he and his nurse would be at their house as soon as possible.
Leonard then called Jim to put him in charge of the sheriff's office, after he relayed a few instructions concerning Carter and Pavel. Jim assured him that everything would be fine, that all would be taken care of in his absence. He reminded Leonard that he needed to stay focused on Paige and the baby and sent his best wishes for a smooth delivery.
After he replaced the phone receiver, he walked over and unlocked the door. As soon as he turned the latch, he heard the start of another contraction and rushed up the stairs. "How far apart are they, darlin'?" he asked, grasping her hand.
He watched as she scrunched her eyes shut and tried to breathe through the pain. "Ab-about....e-every f-four m-m-minutes," she answered between bursts of air.
"Okay, sweetheart, I've got you. Doc Anderson is on his way--" he paused when he heard movement downstairs, then smiled. "In fact, he just got here. We're up here, Doc!" he called.
Soon Dr. Anderson and Nurse Kelley reached the top of the stairs and they strode in with kind smiles to assess the situation. "Looks like Baby McCoy is intent on making an appearance," he commented. "Let's see where we are in the process and how your labor is progressing, shall we?" He moved to the end of the bed and began his examination.
Leonard moved to sit behind his wife, her back against his chest. The friendly but efficient physician took note of how quickly the contractions were occurring to determine the stage of labor. Dr. Anderson concluded that Paige was fully dilated and would soon feel the urge to push, and encouraged her to do so. Leonard was her support, both physically and emotionally, mumbling a stream of reassuring words in her ear.
A few but exhausting hours later, a new life was welcomed into the world and into the McCoy family. A healthy baby girl, Layla Ann McCoy, was born and it was love at first sight for her parents. After she was cleaned up and checked over, Dr. Anderson placed the newborn on her mother's chest, her father looking on in wonder.
"Congratulations, Sheriff and Mrs. McCoy," Nurse Kelley remarked, with Dr. Anderson echoing the sentiment. "She's beautiful."
"Gets that from her mother," Leonard replied softly, then kissed Paige's temple. With their eyes still locked on their daughter, they thanked the doctor and his nurse for their assistance. Dr. Anderson stuck around long enough to make sure the baby got started with her first feeding. Then he and Nurse Kelley bid the new parents goodbye and quietly exited the house.

News of Layla's birth spread like wildfire among their friends and Leonard's family. Donna and Eleanora barely waited all of twenty-four hours before they stopped by to see the new addition. As expected, Auntie Donna and Grandma Eleanora were immediately smitten with the baby. They also brought a few prepared meals to keep in the refrigerator. This would prove useful for the new parents while they adjusted to a new schedule or if they didn't feel like cooking.
Other visitors soon followed, with Leonard's protective side making an appearance when Paige or Layla showed signs of needing sleep. His girls were of the utmost importance to him, and he wasn't afraid to escort visitors out of the house if he thought they'd stayed a bit too long.
Leonard also made sure to send the birth announcement in a telegram back to Paige's family back in Columbus, Ohio. A few days later, Evan sent a return message that stated they would be arriving in Boulder within two weeks' time, and Leonard was hopeful that the visit would include Lyla. With her inclusion, it would mean doctors deemed her well enough to travel that far from home, as long as she was with the family.
He wanted their visit to be a surprise, yet was well aware that Paige would want everything to be perfect, including a spotless house. However, he was also learning the challenges of adapting to a newborn and how it can wreak havoc on a new parent's sleep cycle. For this reason, he called for reinforcements, namely Nyota, Christine, Eleanora, and Donna. The ladies all pitched in to keep things neat and orderly, as well as to provide a bit of respite for Paige.
On the day of the family's arrival, Leonard got ready for work as if it were any other day. Even though he knew it was going to be anything but an ordinary day. He couldn't wait to see the look on his wife's face when she saw her family standing on their doorstep. The thought curved his lips into a smile which was still present when he went downstairs for breakfast.
Paige had completed Layla's morning feeding, then placed her in the bassinet that sat at one end of the table while she fixed breakfast. She had just finished sliding some scrambled eggs onto Leonard's plate when he waltzed into the kitchen. He paused at the table to bid his daughter good morning and kiss the top of her head, cooing at her to try and coax a smile out of her.
He soon abandoned his efforts of a smile from Layla and turned his attention to Paige. "Mmm, good morning, sweetheart. This breakfast looks amazing, thank you," he beamed before leaning down and pulling her closer for a kiss. He plucked the plates from her hands and turned to set them on the table before he pulled out her chair for her.
"Thank you, my love," she replied brightly. They each dug into their meal, with sounds of approval coming from Leonard after nearly every bite. When he was with Jocelyn, he was responsible for most of the cooking, which was mediocre at best. Though his ex-wife's mother taught her the basics, Jocelyn's culinary knowledge didn't develop much beyond those fundamentals.
Luckily, Paige was more than qualified in this area, which saved his palate but threatened to expand his waistline. She was especially gifted with her baked goods, from cookies and cakes, to muffins and pies. Prior to having Layla, her sweet treats were frequently for sale in Nyota's café. No birthday in Leonard's office passed without a birthday cake from Mrs. McCoy, in whatever flavor the birthday person desired.
When Leonard was finished with breakfast, he placed their plates in the sink to be washed later, then returned to the table. He leaned down to kiss the top of Paige's head, but first hooked a finger under her chin to catch sight of her warm, hazel eyes he adored. "Sure wish I didn't have to work today. I'd much rather stay home with you," he grinned.
"Hmm, I'd much rather you stayed home with me too," she agreed. "But you still have those two new deputies to boss around, and that's probably more fun than I'll be having around here."
If you only knew, he thought. "I suppose I should get going. Lots of 'bossing around' to do," he smirked. "I love you, sweetheart," he remarked as his lips met the crown of her head.
He drew back to see her beaming smile directed towards him. "I love you too, Len. Have a good day at work, and please be safe," she added.
"I will darlin', I promise," he responded. He pulled his watch out of his pocket and checked the time. Only another hour before the Stone family would be arriving on the train, and he couldn't wait to reveal the surprise to his wife.
He leaned over Layla's bassinet and noticed she was asleep. His finger gently traced her delicate cheek, being careful not to wake her. "Be good for Mama, babygirl," he whispered before heading for the door. He paused at the threshold, shot a wink at Paige over his shoulder, then closed the door behind him.

After Leonard departed, Paige moved into the kitchen and began to tidy up from breakfast, humming to herself as she worked. Our first anniversary is next week, she suddenly realized. A smile crept up on her face when she thought of the events of the past year and how much her life had changed. From leaving home and arriving in Boulder, to the friends she's made, and of course, in her marriage to Leonard. And now, I'm a mama, she noted as she leaned down to kiss her sleeping daughter's forehead.
First anniversary is said to be paper, which lead her to the idea of a book as a gift for Leonard. He devoured crime novels, which some may think unusual for a sheriff surrounded by it every day. Not Leonard, though, as one of his favorite authors was Agatha Christie. Paige made a note to herself to check the bookstore in town for Miss Christie's latest novel when she's there for her weekly visit with Nyota.
Three hours later and satisfied with her progress, Paige was enjoying a glass of cold water when she heard a knock at the door. Puzzled, she set down her drink on the table and made her way to the door. "Who is it?" she called. "Len, is that you?" she asked, thinking he may have decided to come home for lunch but had perhaps forgotten his key.
"It's me, sugar, but I can't reach my keys out of my pocket. My hands are full, can you please open the door for me?" he explained through the door.
Paige unlocked the door and the sight before her was enough to knock her over with a feather. Her parents and all of her siblings were standing on the front porch, having traveled all the way from Columbus, Ohio. "SURPRISE!!" her family whisper-yelled.
Her hand flew to her mouth and tears sprang to her eyes as she scanned everyone's face until finally landing on her husband. "Sorry, darlin', for fibbin' to you, but I very much wanted this to be a surprise."
"Oh, it is, it absolutely is, Len," she affirmed. "This is wonderful! I'm guessing this why you're not at work today?" she wondered.
Leonard nodded. "Jim's mindin' the office for the next few days, so I can be here with you and your family. Can ya forgive me?" he asked.
Paige hesitated, but only for a moment before her face broke out into a huge smile. "Of course I can, but there's nothing to forgive, Len. This is the best surprise ever!" she gushed. "Goodness, where are my manners? Come in, come in, everyone!"
Leonard helped usher the family into the house, where hugs were exchanged all around. Evan and Lyla remarked how lovely their home was, while the kids talked about their first train ride. Everyone was trying to keep quiet because the baby was still sleeping, but it wasn't long before the first cry was heard.
Paige rose from her seat at the table and reached inside the bassinet to calm the awakening child. "Shh, sweetheart, it's okay, Mama's here. Mama's here," she crooned. Leonard was at her side, his hand stroking his daughter's hair as she worked through the process of waking up. He pressed a kiss to the top of Layla's head and offered to change her diaper. Paige carefully transferred the baby to her husband's waiting arms and gazed fondly at him as he walked upstairs.
"We named her Layla Ann McCoy. She'll have to meet her Nana, Papa, and all of her aunties and uncles after she comes back downstairs from a diaper change," Paige giggled. "While we wait, would anyone like anything to drink?"
A few minutes later, Paige was pulling the glasses out of the cupboard when she was startled by the arms sneaking around her waist from behind. A small shriek of surprise escaped her, while she felt the rumble of laughter in Leonard's chest as he pulled her close to his body. "Relax, darlin', it's just me. I left our little one in the very capable hands of her grandmother so I could help you," he explained.
The couple returned to the group with the refreshments and distributed them around the room. In the meantime, Layla had since left her grandmother's arms and had been passed to her grandfather. Evan's eyes shone with unshed tears as he gazed at his granddaughter, her hand clasped tightly around his index finger. "She's beautiful, Paige. Most perfect thing I've ever seen," he whispered.
Lyla reached out her hand, beckoning her daughter to her side. "She's amazing, just like her mother," she affirmed.
"Thank you, Mama and Papa. She's really a good baby, not too fussy. Of course, as soon as I say this, she'll start crying and prove me wrong," Paige giggled and everyone else joined in. "Where is everyone staying while you're here? I'd love for you to stay here, but we don't have enough rooms," she mentioned.
Leonard gently placed a hand on her shoulder and her attention swung to his soft gaze. "Ma and Donna offered up the empty rooms in their house, which isn't too far away from here. Just up the road," he confirmed.
Paige slumped into his side as he curled his arm around her and held her close. "You really did think of everything, didn't you, my love," she murmured. "Thank you so much, Len."
"Anything to see a smile on your lovely face, sugar," he replied as they watched everyone interact with their daughter.
***
The next few days included socializing with and getting better acquainted with Eleanora and Donna. Leonard drove Paige and the baby to the house on his way to work so she could be with the family. Once he got her settled in, he grabbed himself a muffin and a coffee, kissed his wife and daughter goodbye, and left for the office.
When they all headed to town for the weekly grocery run, they stopped by Nyota's café for lunch. Not only was she happy to see her best friend and Layla, but to meet Paige's family as well. Warm hugs were exchanged, and there were free hot fudge sundaes all around, much to the delight of Paige's siblings.
Before the last night of the family's visit, Paige decided to have an early Thanksgiving dinner, since everyone was together. Leonard's mother and sister were invited, as were the sheriff's deputies and their partners. The seating arrangements had to be creative, as the table wasn't large enough to accommodate everyone, but no one cared. Being together was the most important, and as long as they were, that's all that mattered.
Since Paige did most of the cooking, she was shooed out of her own kitchen when it was time for clean-up duty, albeit under protest. Evan and Leonard assumed dish duty, while Jacob and Tyler hung around in case there was any "man talk" going on. Paige and the younger siblings joined their mother and the others in the living room, where Layla was being fed, courtesy of her Nana.
Paige watched as her mother guided Layla through the feeding process, burping her every so often. After eight children, Lyla was definitely an expert, though each child was different for her. "I remember when you were this small," she remarked softly, her eyes never leaving the baby's face. "After you were done feeding, you'd snuggle right into the crook of my arm and go straight to sleep."
"Layla does pretty much the same thing, whether it's me or Len that's feeding her," Paige replied. "How're you doin', Mama?" she wondered.
Lyla sighed. "I'm doin' the best I can, sweetheart. I take it one day at a time, try to get the most joy possible out of every day. Your father, bless his soul, has been with me every step of the way, no matter what, in good days and not-so-good days. He's definitely taking the 'in sickness and in health' portion of our vows very seriously," she added with a watery chuckle.
Oh Mama, she thought as she fought back the tears gathering at her lash line.
By this time, the kitchen was all clean and those on duty for it returned to the living room. Seeing that Layla was asleep, Leonard gently scooped her up and took her upstairs and tucked her into her crib. She fussed a little at the loss of contact with him, but soon relaxed and settled back into sleep mode.
When he returned to the living room, Evan was in the middle of a story about something that happened at his workplace. Jacob chimed in afterwards with news from his job, and the others talked about what they were learning in school. One by one, Paige's brothers and sisters were showing signs of sleepiness, thus it was agreed for everyone to return to Eleanora's for the evening.
The next morning, Leonard and Jim drove the family and their luggage to the train station for the trip back to Columbus. Paige and Layla rode with Leonard, while Donna and Eleanora tagged along with Jim. Many tearful goodbyes were exchanged, along with lingering hugs and wishes for a safe trip home. Paige took Jacob and Tyler aside and implored them to look out for their parents in her absence, not that they needed to be reminded.
When the conductor hollered the final call for ticketed passengers, the Stone family reluctantly peeled themselves away and boarded the train. As luck would have it, they managed to secure window seats for one last look before they were pulled away from the station. Paige balanced Layla against her hip and waved her little hand to the family as the train departed.

The day of Layla's six-month appointment was a bright, sunny day, with only a few wispy clouds in the sky. Dr. Anderson was pleased with her development and how she'd reached every milestone for her age. Leonard and Paige ended the day with lunch at Nyota's café and visited Donna and Eleanora before finally heading home.
Since Layla had fallen asleep in her car seat, Leonard carried her upstairs to her crib to continue her afternoon nap. He fully intended to sneak in some quality snuggle time with his wife while his daughter slept. With Layla occupying so much of their time, it was important to him that he keep that physical connection with Paige. He wanted to show how much he loved her, not only as a wife and mother, but also as a woman.
Paige sat down on the couch and started to arrange the pillows in the corner, leaving room for Leonard to join her. She liked to sit and rest her back to his chest, his arms holding her close to his body. She was reaching for a blanket to drape over them when the phone rang, which caused her to freeze in her movements.
She rose from her seat to answer the phone, each step filling her with trepidation. Most anyone she knew preferred to communicate in person, rather than use the telephone. As she approached the ringing phone, her fears grew that this would be the call she'd been dreading for many months. "Hello?"
"Hey, Paige," the voice on the other end answered shakily. It was Jacob and it sounded like he'd been crying but was trying to hold it together. "I have some news for you about Mama."
Paige took a sharp intake of breath at his response. She didn't notice that Leonard had returned to the living room and immediately knew something had happened. He rushed to her side and wrapped his arms around her from behind. "What is it, Jacob? What's happened, is Mama okay?" she asked urgently.
Jacob explained that about a week ago, Mama had fallen in the kitchen. When she stuck her hand out to brace herself for the fall, she ended up with a deep cut on her thumb. "Papa took her to the hospital to get stitched up. When they took her vital signs, the results with her heart and lungs caused the doctor to be concerned, so she was admitted."
"Wait a second, so she's in the hospital?" she wondered. By Jacob's hesitation to answer, she knew there was more to the story, so she asked him to continue.
"They hooked her up to one of those machines to give her breathing treatments, only it wasn't really helping much. Over the past few days, she kept getting weaker until....I'm so sorry, Paige, but Mama's gone," he choked out.
The receiver dropped from Paige's hand and her knees buckled under her; however, Leonard fortunately caught her in time. He guided her back to sit on the sofa, then went back to the phone. He could hear Jacob calling out for his sister, so Leonard assured him that he would take care of her. He offered what he hoped were some comforting words, then ended the call.
Paige was still in a state of shock, not knowing what to think or what to do. All she knew was that her mama, the person she turned to for guidance and share her joys, was now gone. And she didn't get the chance to say goodbye. That thought alone opened the floodgates and she broke down as if her heart had shattered into a million pieces.
Leonard returned to her side instantly, gathering her in his arms to comfort her. "Sweetheart, I'm so sorry. I know how much your ma meant to you," he murmured. Although he'd only met his in-laws twice, he felt as if he'd known them since the day he and Paige met. They welcomed him into their family, without question, despite their non-traditional courtship.
As he held and comforted his distraught wife, his thoughts drifted to when he lost his father, David, all those years ago. An incurable illness had taken his life as well, which left a teenaged Leonard as the man of the house to look after his mother and sister. Perhaps that was why he became a sheriff, so he could protect those who couldn't do so for themselves.
After some time, Paige's sobs gave way to quiet whimpers and sniffles, though Leonard continued to hold her. His hand rubbed up and down her back to soothe her while he whispered words of comfort in her ears. When she placed her palms on his chest and pushed a little, he loosened his hold a bit. He brushed the hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear. Then he wiped the tears from her cheeks with his thumb and kissed her forehead.
It wasn't much longer before they heard Layla's cries, signaling she was done with her nap and wanted out of her crib. Paige started to rise from her seat, but Leonard nudged her as he insisted he would attend to their daughter. He hooked a finger under her chin to tilt her face up to meet his, then leaned in and kissed her lips. "I'll be right back, my love," he promised.
While she waited for Leonard to return with Layla, she could hear him up in the room, chattering away with her. It brought a small smile to her face, hearing how sweet he was in his one-sided conversation. She was so lost in thought that she didn't notice right away that he had returned to the living room, Layla on his hip. "See there, sweet pea? There's your beautiful mommy," he cooed. "She's kind of sad right now, and I think she needs some lovin's from you," he winked.
Paige gave Leonard a tired smile and held out her arms. "Come see Mama, sweetheart," she replied softly. He obliged, and watched as she embraced their child, eyes closed and gently swaying her side to side. He decided that some tea may help his wife relax, so he quietly excused himself from the room.
Once he had left, Paige positioned Layla lengthwise on her thighs, with her head resting on her mother's knees, and her feet pointed at her stomach. Layla's hands tightly grasped Paige's thumbs, while her remaining fingers curled around her daughter's tiny fists. "Someday, my little love, I'm gonna tell you allll about your grandmother. She only met you that one time, but I know she loved you sooo much. We even named you after her. Well, sort of, anyway," she gave a watery chuckle.
Leonard stood silently in the doorway, watching, as Paige continued. "I remember everything she ever told me, everything she taught me, and I can't wait to share it all with you." She brushed away a teardrop that had landed on her daughter's forehead before picking her up and placing her on her shoulder. "I love you so much, Layla," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. Her eyes then landed on Leonard, tears streaming from them in earnest now.
He quickly crossed the room and sat down beside her, pulling mother and baby close to his side. "Shh, it's all right, sweetheart. I've got you," he soothed. They stayed curled up together for some time, until Leonard felt Paige's breathing had evened out because she'd fallen asleep.
Leonard gently plucked Layla from her mother's arms and rose from his seat. After placing his daughter in the bassinet, he nudged his wife until she was laying down on the sofa. He draped a blanket over her sleeping form and returned to pick up his daughter. "Let's get you somethin' to eat, hmm?" he suggested as they headed to the kitchen together.

Sunset Died - Wolff/Wainwright/Sword
Reunion
It is the next morning. Actually, now would have been the time for Morgana to get out of bed. But she was up all night. No one could have remotely expected that Agnes would be successful in her search for survivors. It was not until early in the morning that Morgana contacted Blair's parents because she wanted to avoid any commotion during the night.
It was still quite early for Susan and her husband, but Morgana didn't want to break the news to them over the phone. "What's going on that you're calling us here so early, Dr. Wolff? Did you have a night shift?". Morgana folded her hands nervously. "Unexpected, yes, but this night shift was very important. I'm sure you know that Agnes left town a little over a week ago…" / "Wasn't she going to gather herbs and hug trees? That girl really is crazy…". Morgana gave Susan a serious look. "No… She came back last night and… She wasn't alone."
"And what do we have to do with it?"/ "shut up, Boyd". Susan was nervous and started fiddling with her fingers on her hoodie. "What do you mean she didn't come alone?"/ "Well, there were three other people with her… survivors"/ "what?". Boyd was almost a little shocked to hear that. "And who? Who was with her?"/ "Maybe just come with me, but please try to stay calm, o.k.?". Susan nodded nervously.
Morgana led Susan and her husband to the entrance to the tent. There they saw the rather wild-looking man sitting by the bed while he lovingly stroked the shoulder of the person lying there in bed. And despite the blindfold the sleeping one was wearing, there was no longer any doubt in Susan's mind. "M-my God, Blair?". Morgana nodded at them. "yes, it's her"/"that's… impossible", Boyd whispered barely audibly..
Susan burst into tears. While her husband still stood by, almost in disbelief… "It's your daughter, Boyd. I was told that your last meeting wasn't very harmonious… She went on a trip with Cyclone and Emma Hatch the next day. That saved the lives of the three of them, especially your daughter".
Susan turned to her husband and angrily thumped him on the chest with both fists. "I knew it… I knew… I knew it all along, Boyd!"/ "hey, hey, it's okay, I…"/. Susan had to cry again. Then he took her in his arms and cried with her, this time with relief…. "M-Mam?"
Susan could no longer stand still. With quick steps, she went to the bed where her daughter was lying and sat down with her. "My God, Blair, it's you! What's… what's happened?"/ "I'm fine, mom, Cyclone was with me the whole time…". Her eyes went to the man sitting in the chair. "Cy?? "/ "mhm, hello Susan. I'll leave you two alone for now".
While mother and daughter were in each other's arms, it was still so surreal for Boyd. he hadn't expected to ever see his daughter alive again. "Are you all right, do you need anything?"/ "gag…I'd say fresh air, but there's plenty of it here… I…"/ "Daddy?"
Boyd hesitated for a moment, but then got up and went to the bed. Susan was reluctant to get up, but she didn't want to deny her husband the opportunity to greet his daughter. He sat down by her and took her hands. "I'm here…" Blair could feel her father's hands shaking. "I… I wanted to tell you, I'm… I'm sorry." "Oh, Blair…".
Her father was also struggling with his emotions. "Don't be sorry, okay? I… I just wasn't prepared for THIS…"/ "You thought I was dead"/ "Yes… But now I see that you're not… and I'm so… infinitely grateful"/ "I had two guardian angels with me"/ "Who else? Cyclone, he…"/ "Don't make jokes about his looks, he can't hear it anymore, hn. Emma , she was by my side too".
"You were really incredibly lucky, my love" / "mhm. I'd like to get up…" / "Are you feeling fit enough for that, Blair?" / "Yes, Morgana. I was just so incredibly tired and now… I'm hungry, hn. You all just have to help me a little so I can get my bearings" / "We'll do that, we'll do everything we can to help you" / "Thank you. I'm just a little scared of the moment when the bandages are taken off later."
"You don't have to be afraid of that, really…"/ "I won't look like I used to, Daddy. I was lucky and it only got one eye, if it had been both… I would rather have died". Blair could hear her father breathing in and out heavily, "but don't cry now, okay? Better help me get up and Mam can help me get dressed. Thanks for the pyjamas, Morgana"/ "gladly".

End of this Part
@greenplumbboblover 🙂🌺
Note: I had a lot of fun putting together the scenes in the previous episodes. I haven't put so much effort into a story in a while. And many ideas usually come spontaneously, so I always have to think hard about which poses I have available and which ones I still need in the game. :) but by default I'm always well equipped. Thanks to the many pose creators❤ Poses in this part by: @danjaley @poses-by-bee And someone else, where I've unfortunately forgotten again^^
thanks for reading & commenting💓

Chapter 22 / Chapter 438
You know, Cyrus has a pretty normal backstory after all, but it explains well enough the reason of his plan. Since human feelings are illogical and always cause pain, he wanted to create a world where everything was logical and followed specific rules, just like his machines, so that it always worked perfectly.
Oh, I didn't remember that they tried to explain that thing. So the actual Team Galactic created it. I thought it was mentioned to be an old relic back in DP, but maybe I just misunderstood the meaning.
Oh my god, I love you, Dia. Please, never change.
This is so funny, help. Everyone's faces are amazing. Palmer, I know you said you're a bad father, but you're not helping with the allegations either.
Being into PMD hell right now, this is an instant reference to me, even if the games came after, I think. I'm not sure, actually.
As I said, you should thank me I'm not putting every single Pearl panel. Look at him sassing his dad one moment, and being traumatized the next. And not knowing what to say because. He doesn't know what happened.
I love the reference here. I'm not sure between which games the change happens, but I'm pretty sure both phrases are used in the gyms.
This is one of the funniest panels ever. Look at Cyrus' and Palkia's dead stares. They're amazing.
I felt more emotional with this reunion than Uji and Paka's with Platinum. They met once, but they loved each other so much already. Dia and Pearl have a lot of great mentors.
Annnd here's back the lakes trio. With the grunt trying to look menacing for some reason.

@stardstschlar requested an cautious sarter
Scope of his possible interferences didn't include those of the world of the living --- as an Shinigami, circumstances who concerned the mortal realm was out of his reach, for be something they shouldn't have control upon. On that thought, he would imposing an necessary they, as he wasn't the only one involved, as the entire Ju Oh Cho was treated upon the question, and yet, presented circumstances generated an particular dilemna concerning how the future would be created in the end … when Hijiri-kun, met during an mission, involved in middle of Shinigami business and ended up embraced by an demon's request, confessed to be a little more than his presented appareances … when the name of Kamui Shirou resonated within the Ju Oh Cho within worries, as the future remained uncertain, about which choice would be pulled, about how world future will be. If all this were to be insignificant, there would be no importance attached to this fact. Nevertheless --- came aftewards stories of influence coming from Lelouch vi Britannia, in which Hijiri-kun mostly overhear coming from his alternative father than something else, and how, regardless, since he didn't involved within their sector of Japan, only remained observers ...
Nevertheless --- came Hades-sama presence ( in which the shadow already had been perceived by recent Muraki reunions, in which he would prefer avoid any kind of recollections concerning that detail ). Nevertheless --- came the shadow of Hades-sama becoming more and more important, in which, without receiving details, they learn something did happened with Lelouch, which lead them to having an sudden surprise visit of the Witch of Illusions wanting to discover them . Nevertheless --- came the chaos bring by one witch, deciding to exploring amusing realm of the Shinigami, as witch as he was, faced them towards circumstances of the Purgatory they would have appreciated not to suffer in that most unkind manner. Kazutaka Muraki problem exploded differently at their face, as Alois Trancy reflected an vengeful behavior Hisoka internalized, and in which Minase Hijiri remained troubled by what he decided to mentally pulling inside him. Gratefully that kid never touched other problem they were watched about concerning Kamui, though, since he was affiliated with Lelouch, he guessed he would someday learn about him … and might giving them later trouble. The Ju Oh Cho was recovering of an unexpected chaos, in which one kid managed to broke emotionally tourmented Shinigami. The Witch of Illusions did feat to broke dead people. It was now the reputation they had to overcome, besides to surpassing how difficult had been recent weeks / months. Notion of time truly dissolved since he had been allowed to perceiving another dimension he woudn't never be able to touch. Taking care of his working partern who had been emotionally tourmented and horribly tempted inside one particular path became his priority, beyond to desiring making sure Hijiri-kun was alright by his best means.
He had been walking in the street searching something good to eat, as there was always an certain stress who was following down. The Witch of Illusions influence towards him awakening lot of various memories and emotions he had managed so well to push aside. An mixture of tiredness, consciousness concerning his difference and not only share likewise purple eyes of an Emperor --- though the kid never cared about what causing him so much suffering during the time when he was alive --- and he was doing everything he could for spare Hisoka-kun of worries. He wasn't alright at all. How could he ? Hadn't they babysitting terror right in middle of their place, as their existence could confessing that emotion, and yet, sense something threatening might be present ? Did Hades-sama was watching them, regardless if he heard arrangement had been done with Emma-sama concerning how self invitation of that kid causing damages ? What kind of irregularities they would have to deal with ? What Kazutaka-san was preparing ? Thoughtfulness betrayed all around his expression, as he was unable to let that go. Still, as much he was accoustumed to visit around the district, he did catch up when someone seemed different --- when he had an inner thought at that. Afterwards surviving the Witch of Illusions presence, they were ready to deal with lot of things. Nevertheless, he remained with distance, as recollection about who he was stayed that painful reminder. Hisoka-kun, within agreeements, had been allowed to receive some kind of attachement to people from the world of living, but as oldest employee of the Ju Oh Cho, there was awareness about what that exception had to be watched with care. ❝ Did you need something particular ? Are you searching something ? ❞ He requested in an friendly manner. ❝ I don't think you're from around here ... ❞

Good morning/evening! It's muffin anon. Now, *deep breath* imagine;
Fingon, with a freshly reascued Maedhros ends up in modern doctor reader's backyard. Not backyard-kun on its way to become truck-kun of reverse isekai. After a brief confused period, doctor reader takes them in, gives them a place to stay and starts treating Maedhros. It takes quite some time for Mae to fully heal even with elivsh healing and modern medicine. Reader becomes close with Fingon at the long nights where they need to keep an eye on Mae's condition. Reader also becomes attached to Maedhros as caring for someone's health for a long time makes you feel close to them even if you have never really spoken.
After Mae recovers him and Fingon disappear the exact way they had appeared, mysteriously and into the night. Reader struggles to find meaning in life again as caring for and protecting these elves was their goal in life for quite a long time. But, they eventualky manage to get back on their feet.
In a twist of fate, Reader finds themselves in the outskirts of Amon Ereb some time after the Third Kinslaying. They get found by a patrol and are brought to Maedhros. The two have a nice and emotional reunion. (I would love to read their reactions feom your pen.) And Maedhros lets Reader stay and makes sure all of their needs are seen to as he feels indebted to reader for healing him.
Reader meets with Maglor, who both Maedhros and Fingon talked a lot about during their stay. Reader gets close to Maglor as well.
And Reader meets the twins. Reader falls in love with these very cute children at the first sight and practically becomes a co-parent liek Mae and Maglor.
Also, imagine tiny Elrond being fascinated with reader's medical abilities and reader teaching him modern medicine.
But, reader leaving right before the War of Wrath by the same force that keeps sending people around the multiverse.
Reader lands home and this time, they are very disturbed and cannot find meaning in life. One day, they cross street without looking both ways and, you guessed it, truck-kun does his work and isekais reader to Middle Earth. This time about 5 years before the war of the ring, in Rivendell. Elrond is very surprised to see Reader again and they have a heartwarming reunion. Reader ia treated with utmost reapect in Rivendell, both as a healer of great skill and as a parental figure to their Lord.
Reader lives their best life in Rivendell, though seeing the once life filled elven race so old and torn breaks their heart.
When the War of the Rings comes, reader goes with the Grey Company and helps the healers in Minas Tirith. They earn the respect of the Gondorians and become the Master of the Healing Halls after Aragorn's coronation. They introduce modern medicine to Gondor and help rebuild the ruined parts of the city.
When it is time for Elrond to sail, reader and him can be found hugging and crying while saying goodbye.
Reader comes back to Minas Tirith. Reader helps to reform Gondor's healing methods, stop epidemics from spreading and occasionally help Aragorn with court matters. People are impressed with reader's problem solving ability, little do they know it is all modern knowladge taught in schools.
Readers lives a long, prosprous and fulfilling life in Gondor and pass away at old age. They go down in history as the 'mother/father of medicine'.
I feel like this story has been a little too sweet. It needs an angsty twist. But I couldn't figure out what it could be.
What do you think about this unusally non angsty story from me?
Oh, Muffin. It's good, but I think getting pulled forth and back by the time and space has angst enough on its own. I don't think anyone would retain their sanity if they get tossed around like a potato sack and how about this --- since reader does technically die by the truck and is technically reincarnated. What if they get reborn as an elf? They kept their memories and knowledge in healing. They do their thing in Middle Earth and Gondor then tries to seek out Maglor, so they can sail to the Undying lands together to be reunited with Elrond and the rest of their family. Reader doesn't have to spend their time alone and could see Fingon again. A happy ending after experiencing three ages in a row. It's the least reader deserves.

Wolfsong by TJ Klune: the things I liked and didn't
This was a good read, completed it in a day.
SPOILERS ARE IN RED- They are not major
THE THINGS I LIKED A LOT
The characters having 'bonds' in every sense, such as the parallels between Ox's relationship with his mother and Elizabeth, Thomas and Joe, my personal favourite being his brother/fatherly bond with Gordo.
The way the characters at Gordo's (the car mechanics') interacted with each other- the playful teasing between these characters was definitely a highlight and made for the funniest scenes.
The twists and turns of the story both managed to make sense and be decently unexpected. Of course, some of them are predictable, but I'd argue predictable isn't bad as long as it really makes sense.
Ox's character development was great. Seeing him develop and grow into that of a leader, seeing him gain both confidence and a family.
The Bennetts as a family was well set up, even when we see them take to Ox very hastily, it doesn't seem rushed. It feels very natural and their family dynamic never failed to make me smile.
How grief and trauma was handled. How Ox becomes much stronger from it, grasping to keep everyone together despite his own grieving. How Elizabeth completely blocked out her pain, reverting to a simpler form, in order to process her emotions. How Joe becomes impulsive and fleety...etc...etc...
The fact that many minor characters in the first half of the story come back. Like with his ex Jessie and the boys from Gordo's.
The reunion was handled well I believe, it always annoys me when a character either spends too long forgiving a character when in a dire situation. Or when they do a 180 as soon as they reunite. It took a week, which, considering they didn't know when they'd be in danger again, makes a lot of sense.
The repetition of certain phrases. Such as what Ox's father said to him as a child, or 'not yet'. The best of these is the 'oh' moments when a character bonds with another in a very deep way. Without any spoilers, they form a deeper understanding of what the Bennett family or their love truly is.
The writing style fits the main character a lot. He's straight to the point and doesn't use embellishments in his words. Though, sometimes I would've liked some pretty descriptive words- like say- what we would get in Song of Achilles. Yet, it fits the book well and was a good narrative device.
I'd say the best aspect of this book is the relationships between the characters. The family bonds, friendships and love shared between our two main characters.
My favourite characters would have to be Gordo and Elizabeth.
NOW FOR WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
The age gap: 6 years is not always a bad age gap, but I'm a bit iffy at this one.
Their relationship doesn't begin until both characters are 17 and 22/23, and their sexual relationship doesn't begin until they're 20/21 and 26. However, they meet when Joe is 10/11 and Ox is 16. Which, yeah a bit weird. It's obvious that Joe has a little crush on Ox, and it can be uncomfortable at times.
Only 2 main characters in the first novel are women, one is a mother, and the other is an ex-girlfriend who at some point becomes a more prevalent character in the book. Sorry if that's nitpicky, but I did wish there were more female characters. Since many of the men in this book are queer, it would be nice to see a few queer women as well.
Some of the 'wolf talk' can be very confusing to read. I'm not sure if that's the point, but it can get a bit tedious to try to decode all of the dialogue.
The highschool. We didn't see much of highschool at all. I mean Ox spent most of his time there in the first quarter, and we only see a handful of random scenes. It's also stated that the Bennetts are revered and respected, But I don't really see any of this in practice. It's just stated a few times.
It's hard to place who Joe is as a character. He changes a lot in the book, but I don't find it gradual due to the fast time skips. This is likely to represent and allow us to also feel the 'boy became a man' scene. Ox one day is stunned by the realisation that Joe is now a man, and he hadn't even noticed. But I'm talking about his personality, we don't see how he goes from clingy and sweet to flirtatious and teasing. Then to what he becomes at the end of the book- kind of patient and possessive, his personality kind of hinging on 'I love you' and 'I'll tear the world down for you', which is very romantic and all...but, what else?
End notes:
There are two sex scenes in this book, one in the last quarter and one in the epilogue. They're okay, didn't make me cringe, that's all I can say about that.
Give this book a 8.5/10 maybe a 9/10 if you like angst, werewolves, queer romance and found family.

Chapter 19: No
Gus pov
I grin at Nora's shocked face.
"What?!", she shrieks. "That's impossible! Because I would had a chance to have powers then?!"
"Nope,", I responded. "They seemed to skip you."
"Then what powers do you have?", she sneers at me.
"Thought it would be obvious," I chuckle. "I can sooth people, remove their pain but only from injures or surgery. Can't remove emotional pain. Also knock someone out with my powers. I also can't block pain that is self done, like that damn watch Eric made for Zella."
"Then.....what power did Grandma have?", Aileen asks.
"Same as Zella: Shadows. But in her case, Melinda had a mark that showed she is from a long line of shadow users. The exact same way Zella uses her powers in fact. Her grandma having the mark was the only difference."
"But I am pretty sure I would have noticed a mark on Zell?", Dick asked confused.
"Shut up!", Zella cries out with a red face.
"But I would have! I-mphfg!", was all he got to say before Zella covered his mouth with her hands.
"You shush!"
"Well, this reunion has been fun. But I'll be taking my daughters home.", Nora says in a bored and sarcastic tone of voice.
"What do you mean by 'daughters'?", Jason asks.
"Exactly what I said."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dick pov
"Zella for sure is not going anywhere.", I said while pulling her close to me. "And I don't think Aileen wants to either."
Aileen nods her head in agreement to what I said.
"Don't talk like you know what is best for my girls!", Nora screams as she makes her way towards me and Zella. "We're going home....now!"
"No....", Zell said quietly.
"What?", Nora asks as she reaches for Zell's arm to drag her.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zella pov
"I said NO!", I yell, shocking everyone and myself.
Mother, no Nora, stops in her tracks just a few inches away from me and Dick.
"But Dear.", she starts.
"NO! I am done being afraid of you!", I yelled as I stop hiding in Dick's side and instead stood right next to him. "You never loved me. You never even tried! I would have understood if you gave me up to other parents or just gave me to Grandpa. But you made me feel like a freak in my own home, sold me to a man who would have used me to make weapons or even cut me open to see what makes me tick to get those weapons!"
"But!"
"You were the one that told Father, no Eric to make the button on my watch! He agreed because he has no backbone when it comes to you! You have to act like everything revolves around you and if something doesn't fit with your idea of perfect, you get rid of it! The only reason you didn't with me right away was because at first you thought my 'Little Problem' would go away! But then you only kept me because of Aileen. You saw how much she adored me and since she was your perfect little angel, you kept me around to make her happy. And because you thought you could use me as a example to her on what not to do, behave, think, or become!"
I take a few deep breaths since I said that without a small break because I felt like if I didn't get it out, I never would. I also kept back the tears I felt prickling in my eyes when I said the first no.
"Zella you!", Nora starts to say but I interrupted her.
"Leave. I never want to see or hear from you ever again.", with that I turn on my heel and head back to the guests. I quickly blink the tears away before I faced them.
To my surprise, the guests where waiting for me with smiles. Dinah even gave me a hug.
"How much did you hear?", I ask with a red face.
"Oh, all of it.", Wally says with a grin.
Artemis elbows him in the gut before speaking to me. "We all kinda eavesdropped on that when we noticed most of the Batclan leaving."
"I am soooooo sorry you had to hear that.", I said while covering my face with my hands.
"I'm not sorry at all.", Dick says while he gently moves my hands from my face. He must have left right after I did. "I'm proud of you."
"It takes a lot of courage to stand up to someone like her.", Bruce says as he stands next to Clark.
Damian, Cassie, Stephine, Tim, Cippia, Gus, Alfred, Aileen, Duke, and Jason were standing around me.
"Where is she?", I asked nervously.
"Master Bruce had her escorted out of the Manor. Though Master Damian also wanted to punch her."
"Pretty sure all of the boys wanted to.", Gus says with a laugh. "But Dick is right Zella. You stood up to that wretched woman."
"Well then, this is a party. So let's just party while the star relaxes.", Oliver says while taking my hand from Dick's.
He then leads me to a chair and has me sits down.
Leslie then comes over and checks me over. "Normally it is advised to stay away from stressful situations when pregnant, but I think you are fine considering you are only a month and a half along.", she says with a smile.
"Blame Dick for having strong genes then.", I said with a laugh.
"Hey!", he whines as he takes a seat next to me. "Why are you mean?"
"Who was the one that got me like this?"
"As I recalled, you were the one who started that session.", he says with a smirk. "And right after you saved me from that Mob Boss."
"I did nothing!", I say with a red face. "You were the one who kissed my neck while I was trying to get out of that stupid dress!"
"Worth it. That just meant you wouldn't look for anyone else and,",he says with a smug smile as he gets up then pull me into his arms. "Because of that night, you are having my baby so that definitely means I will not let you go."
He then kisses me so I couldn't say anything. When we break for air, I hear Roy, Wally, and Jason snickering so I bury my burning face into his chest.
"I hate you.", I said slightly muffled.
"And I love you with all of my heart.", he says as he rests his head on top of mine
The guests laugh before going back to the party. Aileen goes with Jason to the dance floor with Gus watching him like a hawk.
"Also....", Dick whispers into my ear. "I kept that dress because you looked so cute in it. I bet you'll look just as cute then as you will in a few months so, try it on for me?"
"Hate you!", I said before pushing myself out of his arms to go stand somewhere else with a bright red face.
I can hear his smug laughter as he wraps his arm around my waist to pull me back. "Love you.", he says before kissing my nose.

RE Boys Meeting Readers Parents for the First Time
Requested by Anonymous
Warnings: Rude AF parents
Piers
You were nervous to say the least. It wasn't often you brought a partner home to meet your family and with summer in full swing along with BBQs and cook outs, it only seemed natural that you bring Piers to one that your family was hosting.
Showing up in his jeep, you hoped that he would fit in, well rather your family would like him. You didn't exactly fit in yourself, but if they were tolerable or cordial even, that would be a dream come true.
Bringing in side dishes you'd picked up at the store, you and Piers walk through the front door and are greeted with waves and hellos from your siblings and aunts and uncles. It was practically a reunion at that point.
Setting things on a table outside as your dad grilled, you knew you had to introduce Piers to everyone, but first your parents.
"So what do you do, son?" You father asked as he kept his eyes on the burgers he had on the grill. "For work that is."
"I'm an agent for the BSAA. It's kinda like the military, but it's not just for one government. We have branches all over the world."
"So, you think the US military isn't that great then?"
Oh gods, no. Please, please, please, don't.
Of course your dad does indeed go there.
"Of course not, Sir. My commanding office was in the Air Force as well as a special tactics team for the police himself before founding the BSAA. I served a four year stint in the Marines myself before transferring."
That seemed to satisfy your dad as he gave a nod before he waved you on to go meet your mom.
Dad was the easier of the two, Mom was. . . Mom could break relationships up so easily and you wondered if she knew she wielded that power.
"So, your Y/N's boyfriend?"
"Yes, Ma'am."
"Well, I hope they won't run you off like their last partner, what with all the emotional tantrums and needs."
"No, Ma'am. I don't plan on letting something small like that push me away."
"Small?" She laughed. Actually fucking laughed. "You certainly haven't seen them at their worst then."
"Maybe not, but they've seen me at my worst and I doubt some tears and screaming would make me want to leave."
You excused the two of your quickly. Jesus, why did you even go? Because they'd call and guilt you, that was why.
"Ignore them. I'm not upset with you about anything and no matter what they say, it won't change how I feel about you."
Giving you a kiss to the head and a squeeze around the shoulders, the two of you went to spray your nieces and nephews with the hose.
Leon
You had met Leon's grandmother, the woman was lovely if not completely there. She lived in a nursing home that had the best care possible and Leon made sure it stayed that way.
So when it came time to meet your family, you nearly made up an excuse to stay away, but after nearly 9 months and your mother pestering you into a dinner at an Italian place near them, you gave him and hoped Leon wouldn't be scared off.
Granted the man had literally been through warzones, infected with mind controlling parasites, and so much more, it was the mundane things that you worried would be too much for him.
He thought it was cute, giving you one liners of sass to irritate you out of worrying.
What really worried you wasn't that your parents wouldn't like Leon because he did have a good paying job, his own car, his own home, didn't have debt, but it was the fact that he was 20 years your senior that made you nervous.
Hell, your dad was only older than him by 10 years and your mom 6.
Sure he looked good for 44, but that didn't mean much when it came down to his age.
At the restaurant, you couldn't stop worrying the cloth napkin in your hand as your parents and Leon spoke. They were curious and wanted to know about him.
Leon answered everything perfectly. Nothing too descriptive about his job, his hobbies including working on an old mustang he bought as well as crossword puzzles, seeing friends, and watching 'the sports.'
You knew the last one was a life because Leon hated watching sports. He'd rather be playing them himself.
"So, how old are you, Leon?" Your dad asked.
This was it, this was the big on. They ate up everything he had to say before hand, so maybe that would account for something.
"I'm 44, turning 45 in a few months."
"Oh. That's interesting."
You were gulping down the water to keep you from making any noise or comment as your Dad changed his look.
"So what's a 45 year old man doing with a 24 year old that just moved out on their own not 3 years ago?"
Were it not obvious, you would have slid under the table to hide how red your face was getting.
"Because I love them."
Okay, that helped a lot. You couldn't help the smile on your face as you watched Leon remain calm.
"Love's a big word there."
"But it's accurate. I love them and they love me. If I didn't mean it I wouldn't say it."
"Any previous marriages? Kids?"
And there was mother chiming in to try and ruin it.
"No and no. I never had time for a real relationship or kids with my job so I didn't pursue either. It's within the last year that I've had some changes at work and no longer really work out of the office, so it felt like I was able to have a steady relationship."
"So, this is your first real relationship then?"
"All my relationships are real, I assure you. If I wasn't able to commit to someone, I wouldn't. That was the mature thing to do as well as a healthy one. Just because I didn't have a romantic relationship for so long doesn't mean I don't know how a partnership works. I can rely on Y/N, confide in them, work with them, and know that they can do the same for me. Sure there's some bickering, but all relationships have that. It's part of it. That doesn't mean I want to leave them. I'm sure you two have had bad fights that felt like it was the end of the world, but it turned out you cared for each other too much to let it ruin your relationship."
Never in your entire life had your parents been stunned into silence. It was a sign from the heavens. You were going to marry that man.
Chris
It was a rare treat for Chris and you to see family separately, so when it came time for your family to meet Chris, you were. . . Well, freaking out.
Chris was confused, but supportive. It was just dinner with your family to introduce him and your promotion at work, what could go wrong?
So, so much.
Holy shit, how were you going to do this? Your sister and her perfect husband would be there, constantly showing how perfect she was while you were the younger sibling that was constantly compared to her.
"Just take it one moment at a time. I mean, I've see you yell at soldiers bigger than me and leave them in near tears. You've got this."
He's trying to be sweet, but he doesn't know where you learned that skill.
Walking in, your sister and her husband were having drinks outside with your parents, already eating. So much for showing up on time.
"I'm sorry, we just couldn't wait. Your sister was hungry and couldn't help herself, so we all joined in," your mom said.
Of course she was.
"Here are our sides."
You put on a smile and try not glare at your sister.
"Everyone, this is Chris. Chris, this is my mom, dad, sister, and her husband."
"It's a pleasure to meet all of you."
Ever the gentleman, he pulls your chair out for you before sitting himself.
"So how did Y/N managed to snag such a handsome man as yourself?"
And it begins.
"Well, we met when they were training at the BSAA obstacle course and I saw them wipe the floor with the other agents, setting the record for best time ever."
"Oh, you must like the strong ones." Your sister giggled as you put food on your plate and Chris', purposefully staring at the table.
"Strong or not, it was just the first time we met. We worked together for a few months on a project and got to know each other better and when the project was over, they asked me out to dinner."
You eyed the nearly empty bottle of wine and cursed your mother for using large wine glasses.
"Of course they asked first. I'm not surprised. They've always been a bit boy crazy, needing a boyfriend all the time. I could never keep up with them honestly." Your mother's drunk cackle made you want to claw your own ears in hope that they'd never hear it again.
"Mother. It's just that there's always a revolving door of boys with them that we never really get to meet them."
Of course your sister had to pipe in, making you sound like all you did was just date or sleep around as if it was a bad thing.
"I wouldn't know, we've been together for nearly 9 months."
Bless that man. Having had to raise Claire, he would have to learn to have a quick wit and come backs.
"9 months? Wow, and you're not pregnant yet? I'm surprised you haven't had a baby yet."
Of course your brother in law added into the dog pile.
"We talked about kids and decided not to have any."
Your words stunned everyone else who looked like you'd just spat on the table.
"You mean, you don't want to have any grandbabies for me?"
"You'll change your mind. You're still young."
"But you two would have such cute babies and I'm sure you'd be great parents."
"When did us having babies start involving you?"
It was Chris' turn to shock everyone.
"Last I checked, I'm not in a relationship with any of you, so why would us having or not having kids matter? You wouldn't be raising them, feeding them, clothing them. We would and if we don't want to have that responsibility, why would we have kids for you to dote on but hand back after an hour? If you want that, get a dog or better yet a doll. At least then you don't have to worry about actually taking care of a living thing."
You were incredibly turned on by him just laying down the truth and taking the piss out of everyone. He was definitely getting head tonight.
"Seems kind of rude of you to say that?"
"Oh? Like how you continued to act like Y/N having multiple partners somehow makes them less than? And saying that in front of me as if you were trying to break us up wasn't rude? Or how about assuming their sexual activities and making them out to be some sort of deviant that's careless about their actions? No wonder I haven't met any of you yet, I wouldn't want to know you if I could help it."
The table was silent and you knew that he was perfect and that he was going to always have your back.
"I like him," your dad piped in with a chuckle.
