Just watched Scary Movie 2 again and had an idea.

Not A Cat Person

"Hello?" Ruby called out.

She was alone in the forest. This world was unlike anything she had ever seen on Remnant. An orange sky with green waters greeted her once more as she turned to the beach, hoping against hope the disturbance was one of her friends, alive and well, who might have fallen with her.

Instead a cyan and lavender cat of checkerboard patterns greeted her. Regardless of it's strange appearance, Ruby crouched to greet them all the same. She held a sweet smile as she did.

"Oh, hi there, kitty kitty~!" Her smile beamed. "Hi there, little fella~!"

With a hiss, Ruby considered the cat to not be friendly. With a leap, Ruby knew for certain that the cat was unfriendly, and had teeth and claws to prove it.

Ruby rolled about, crying and screaming in agony as the cat continued to swipe at her. She tossed it off and ran through the forest. She found herself at a dead end, and the cat hissed as it approached.

"Easy, easy!" Ruby gulped. "I... I think I know why you're mad. And I just want to say I'm REALLY sorry about what I did on the beach. You probably have that as your litterbox, and it's been a long time since I went to the bathroom."

The cat's eyes widened, craning it's neck to the beach where it saw a pile of unspeakable material next to a sign that said, 'CC's! No!'. With an angry yowl, the cat's body contorted as it's body shifted to a monochrome color and stood twice Ruby's height. It grabbed a nearby stick and swung at Ruby.

In a panic, Ruby screamed. "HELP! THIS PUSSY'S TOO CRAZY!"

It lept upon her and pressed the stick towards her throat. Ruby, in turn, aimed it closer to where it's slapping tail was by her head. The stick missed both, and Ruby ran away once more.

She found herself on the beach once more, where the cat waited with a pawful of sand. She reeled, praying it wasn't the same sand from where she relieved herself. Blinded, she didn't see the cat come in with the steel chair.

Furious, Ruby reeled on the cat. She wasn't here for an hour, and already she was getting her ass kicked! No more! For once, Ruby would finally get a win! STARTING NOW!

"COME ON! YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME?!" She swung her arms wide. "HUH?!" Ruby struck the feline foe hard in the head. "Yeah?! You like that, PUSSY?!"

A furry fist fustigated her features, but this did not deter her. She swung back with two hooks, and the cat returned in kind, knocking her to the sand. She stood proud, however.

"COME ON!" She roared. "GIVE ME YOUR BEST! FUCKING! SHOOOOOOOOOOT!"

Time seemed to slow as Ruby's face cracked against the clenched paw of her adversary. The world grew dark as it spun around her. She lost.

She failed. Again.

"Hmph," the cat said, prancing away, "how uncivilized..."

Here we are with the second episode of s06. I dont even know what to think.

SONIA WTF? She killed that woman like that... she looks even more crazy than Ferguson. I love her so much... but i knew it wasnt Liz... the showed that other lady too much to not use her someway lol. And now she wanna use Liz to get out of prison. She is the devil. And I LOVE HER.

And Liz? Poor Liz. No she is at wor with Boomer again and she will be used and probably take more years in prison. Holy ship.

Ruby?... I am loving RUBY and to see her fight was kinda hot ahahaha. But i dont want her to get involved in the fight cluuuuuuuuuuub... but i can imagine it is really tempting. Plus she has the hots for Ally and i like that. I mean i wouldnt hate them to get together. I want Ally to be happy again lol. But i will be fine even if they stay only friends... if they will be able to sort out what happened... pleaseeee...

And FRANKY?? She was SHOOOOOOOOOOT??! WTF??? I wasnt expecting that to happen. Will they find her? What she will do now if she was able to escape? Like she was shot and that fall didnt look easy to take so... OH MY GOD. But i have hopes that the psychologist will do the right thing.

Are Quinn and Nando the type of couple that learns all about the other's hobbies or that is like /I have no clue what you are talking about but I love that you are so passionate/

Hmmm, I think it’s a little bit of both, if that makes sense? Let me explain.

(Ask me anything about the crickets!)

In cricket fic, we’ve seen a little on either side of their growth in terms of knowledge about each other’s Main Thing, so hockey and theatre. Like, for example, we see Nando at the Halloween party and Winter Screw having absolutely no idea how most theatre things work, but then in the later DEH casting fic he’s picked up on a lot of terminology. Similarly, we see Quinn in the first kiss fic knowing so little about hockey that he has to ask Ford for explanation about it prior to his first game, and then in the fic where he meets the alumni, set toward the latter half of spring semester, it’s implied that he understands a lot more.

This happens by assimilation because they’re dating each other and each hearing about these things, which take up big chunks of extracurricular time in their lives, but also because they each make a point to learn. Especially when they first start dating, they both want to really make sure they know enough about each other’s Thing to be able to talk to their boyfriend about it.

So Nando will ask Quinn to explain theatre things to him, and Quinn will ask Nando to explain hockey things. The longer they date, the more they just know. Manager Quinn also makes Quinn’s hockey knowledge more expansive, once that time in college comes around.

But. I maintain that it’s funny, realistic, and kind of cute if their knowledge of each other’s hobbies only goes so far. Because there are some things about hockey that Quinn will just never understand, and some things about theatre that Nando won’t. That’s where you get into “I have no idea what you’re talking about but I love that you’re so passionate” territory.

Here are some examples.

Even though he’s watched his fair share of in-person hockey at Faber once he and Nando have been dating for a little while, Quinn does not and never will understand exactly what possesses Nando when he watches hockey on the TV. Although Quinn prefers when they watch fun shows like Queer Eye and Drag Race, there are times when the crickets’ frat boy instincts take over during cricket & Quinn TV nights, and Quinn winds up being forced to watch an NHL game. Especially if it’s, like, Falcs versus Coyotes, or Falcs versus Habs, or basically any situation where their teams play teach other. The boys get heated.

And that fully includes Nando, so sometimes Quinn will be minding his own business snuggled up in his lap in the Haus living room, probably on his way to taking a little nap, and then all of a sudden Nando will, out of nowhere, shout at the players on the TV. Oh my GODDD, what are you DOING? Bury that!!!!!  / You gotta have that guy! / SHOOOOOOOOOOT!!!

And of course this will wake Quinn up from his half-nap. Quinn will sort of look up at him, all rumpled with his hair messed up and wearing Nando’s sweatshirt (this is a good visual because it would kill Nando on sight), and give him this grouchy little look and be like, I'm going to turn my ears off now.

When he’s not half-asleep, it’s more funny for Quinn to witness Nando in his hockey-watching habitat. And even though he understands the mechanics of the game, he still doesn’t quite follow conversations on the roadie bus when they get into really specific playing talk.

On the flip side, Nando learns his fair share about theatre from Quinn’s post-rehearsal rants and also general stress during production season, but there are some things he just will never get. Like weird superstitions, especially. (He gets shunned once for like two hours because he asks why they’re scared of the word Macbeth. He’s like, but baby, I just want to know!!! Poor Nando.)

He understands some theatre superstition, because he is, after all, an athlete with his own game-related traditions. But some theatre stuff is just too wild for him.

Another funny thing that Nando does when trying to understand theatre is compare everything to hockey. It’s what his himbo jock brain requires to understand it. Quinn will ‘translate’ theatre things into hockey terms sometimes, like that one bit in the DEH casting fic where he likens being cast as the lead to being team captain. And Nando’s dumb ass is like ohhhh, yeah, I understand now, baby. Thank you.🥰🥰

There are a lot of times where Quinn needs to rant about something really specific and Nando just has to step back and let him talk, because otherwise Quinn might blow a gasket. It’s how he lets off steam after rehearsals. He’ll rant for five minutes and then he’ll be like okay I’m done, thank you, how was your day, honey?

And then when you get into smaller hobbies, most notably Quinn’s sewing.... yeah, Nando doesn’t know a lot about that. 😂😂😂 But he does think it’s super cool!! Like, when they first start dating and he’ll compliment something Quinn is wearing, and Quinn will be like, thank you! 😊😊 I made it myself and Nando will be like YOU WHAT???

Quinn also has sewing/knitting rants, which are pretty much a foreign language to Nando. He’ll pop off about embroidery techniques or not being able to find this one specific fabric he really wants or how this sewing YouTuber uses a style that annoys him, and Nando will just stand there and watch like..... baby I love you but I have no idea what any of that means, I still support you though.

And Quinn will be like, 🥰🥰 thank you Sebastián; also, can we go to the fabric outlet this weekend?

Most of my chapters for DDW are based on a song as well. It’s how I can set the tone for writing my chapters/ works.

13.  Describe your writing process from idea to polished

So... I usually will catch an idea somewhere and then start out writing that particular scene. Once that’s done, I try to create background like how’d they get here, why, what’s their drive. Once it’s all kind of down, I send it to @superpixie42 or @sapphirestarxx and now @hnnwnchstr because they are freaking awesome and will tell me if it works, what doesn’t, and what I should elaborate on or fix.

34.  What was the hardest scene you ever had to write?

Hmmmmm... The latest chapter in DDW was hard. Really hard. I’m not usually a dark writer but the story arc Kag is in is REALLLLLLLLLLLLY dark. The story of Midoriko was probably the hardest to do. Though Inuyasha’s story isn’t much better. Hell, everyone in that latest chapter is kinda fucked.

              You were absolutely sure this was the worst idea Andre had ever had. Period.

              "Andre, are you sure you don't need more padding?"

              "I'm fine" he said, laughing as he stood in front of the net. "You don't scare me."

              "But I don't know what I'm doing" you said. "That should be reason to worry."

              "Are we going to do this or are you just going to keep making excuses?" He asked, straightening up.

              "We're going to do this" you said.

              You had been dating Andre for a while now. He had taught you how to ice skate and now he decided he was going to teach you to play hockey, with him as the goalie.

              And no pads.

              "Come on then! Shoot it!" You looked at the puck by your feet and tried to stick handle it like you had seen so many players do.

              "Ok it can't be that hard" you murmured. You looked up and took your position, one similar to a golf stance, and watched as Andre's lips twitches in amusement.            "Shut up!" you said. "You could help!"

              "No no! Come on! Shoooooooooot!" he said, mocking you. Anytime you watched a game at home, you ended up yelling at the players to shoot.

              "You're being mean" you said. Andre laughed.

              You pulled the stick back and pushed forward, the little rubberized disk sliding across the ice towards Andre.

              "Good. Harder."

              "Am I even doing this right?" you asked, trying once more, adding a little pressure.

              "Kind of. Good enough for you." You pulled another puck to you, shooting this one towards Andre.

              "This is hard" you said as you tried to shoot the puck as hard as you could, watching as Andre easily batted the disk aside. "How do you do this?"

              "Wanna try gaining speed?"

              "What?" Andre skated over to you and pulled a puck out of the pile he left by you.

              "Here. Watch." Andre slid you off to the side and skated to center ice before skating back, his stick cracking against the puck and sending it flying into the net. "Like that. Get some speed and hit it."

              "I'm not sure that's a good idea" you said, chewing on your bottom lip.

              "You've got a helmet. You'll be fine."

              "Yeah but-"

              "Come on chicken" Andre chirped.

              "Excuse me?" you demanded. Andre flapped his arms and made awful chicken noises. "Oh it's on!" You skated to center ice and took a deep breath. You could totally do this. What was the worst that could happen? You whiff on the puck?

              Not like Andre hadn't done that before.

              You took one more deep breath and nodded. You skated as quickly as you could towards where the puck sat. As you got close, you bent low and pulled back, smashing the stick into the puck. You watched as the puck rocketed up and...

              "SHIT!" Andre squealed, falling to his knees while cupping himself.

              "Oh my god" you breathed as you dropped the stick and skated up to him, bending by his side. "Are you ok? I told you to wear more pads!"

              "Fine" he breathed. He groaned and whimpered as he shifted. "Maybe not."

              "Oh my god! What can I do?"

              "Just..." Andre took a few deep breaths and grimaced. "Give me a minute." You watched as Andre shifted once more.

              "Do you need an ice pack?" you whispered.

              "I need a minute (Y/N)" Andre whimpered.

              "I told you that you needed to wear more padding! You didn't even have a cup on!"

              "I didn't think you'd be able to get it off the ice" he hissed, standing. "Fuck!"

              "Do you need...?"

              "I'm good... just gonna..." Andre skated over to the bench, bent in half and still cupping himself. He eased himself onto a seat and you moved to sit next to him.

              "I'm sorry."

              "Good shot" he breathed. "Next time I'll actually listen to you."

              "I told you" you said. "Idiot."

              "Shut up. I underestimated you."

              "You always do."

              "Shut up" he said again. "I hope you know you won't be having kids anytime soon."

              "Good" you pressed a kiss to his cheek. "You've got a Stanley Cup to win first."

Oh shoooooooooot! Paid family leave is coming, y’all!

YEAH THAT’S RIGHT. Or at least, well, it’s in the works. 

In a statement today, Councilmember Lorena González publicly backed a pair of bills submitted in Olympia by Senator Karen Keiser (D, Des Moines) and Representative June Robinson’s (D,  Everett). 

“This State legislation compliments our own work toward a comprehensive paid family leave policy for Seattle’s working families, and I proudly support this common-sense statewide effort that would help hundreds of thousands of working families across Washington State,” said González. She then added that her office is beginning “the process of drafting legislation to institute a paid family leave policy within the city of Seattle.”

The bills—one in the House, one in the Senate—are identical and would require workers be given paid time off to care for family members (note: not just children), including injured servicemembers. 

The House Dems call the bill “extremely affordable for business owners,” because it’s funded through “payroll premiums paid by both employees and employers, costing each about $2 a week for a typical Washington worker.”

Family leave is a labor issue, but it’s also very much an intersectional issue; lack of family leave disproportionately impacts women and especially women of color. 

“Only 13 percent of workers have access to paid family and medical leave, usually high-wage earners, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,” wrote the Dems in a release. “Among lower-wage workers – predominantly women and people of color – the rate is 4 percent.”

With a locked up Senate, it’ll be tough to pass a statewide family leave bill—but on the City level, it wouldn’t be nearly as tricky. Family leave is, as CM LG says, “common-sense,” and would be pretty much a slam-dunk on the Council. Business will likely oppose it—as they always do with new labor laws, even when they make perfect goddamn sense—but the precedent is very much set by paid safe and sick leave, minimum wage, and now, secure scheduling. 

If Seattlish had to predict how this would go down, we’d say it’s likely that the City will see a family leave ordinance begin to wind its way through the second floor of City Hall while the legislature mulls theirs to death. Then, when the bill in Olympia dies on the floor, it’ll go to the ballot, where the voters will likely pass it.

But that’s just a prediction. Stay tuned for more.
