basically had an oc for forever ever since i got into the show so YEARS ago and changed her design 100000000x… i had her quirk, her backstory and everything sorted with her lore figured out with her relationships and everything, but now im doubting its uniqueness and actual capabilities and idk if its actually enjoyable for anyone but me and my silly daydreams. so my goobers please help me.

i love her and wanna make her cool as hell

🎶 either i stick with her original quick of Acoustokinesis - basically manipulating sound and having sonic screams, i use to think she would sing and scream it at people but a lil impractical- the only problem is i want to give her some capabilities outside of just haha silly scream

i know i want her quirk to be linked to her emotions for ✨LORE✨ reasons (i can expand if ppl wanna hear) maybe with misophonia having emotional triggers to sound as she is a very apathetic character at the beginning due to this factor

it would also make some sense lore wise since it is a like President Mic (can expand later on) although lacks that uniqueness in that sense unlike other ocs

OR

🩸some sort of blood quirk where she can formulate plasma into weapons (key problem with the original is i wanna give her pretty weapons BUT could just have Mei make them…since they’re gay for eachother 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩) but she’d be like tugging on ‘heart strings’ stopping people’s blood flow causing crushing pains and when hitting opponents using their blood in attacks like water benders.

this would also make some sense as in my au toga is her childhood best friend and ends up at UA with them. so something in common?? but it just feels overdone

but i need her quirk to be useful having good capabilities she also doesn’t use it to begin with being underestimated by her fellow classmates as well as a fear of hurting fellow classmates with her volatile emotions which works well with unexpected screams of raw emotion

LIL BIT OF LORE

so they’re name is Aspen Yumiyai, she had a really fucked up childhood until the age of 7, (but shes my bbg) her father being on the run ever since, yet she continues to wake up in the night the fluorescent white lights and white tiled walls flashing in her vision as she was pushed on a stretcher down the corridor REDACTED. she has two metal robotic legs with a sarcastic demeanour and a bit of a hater and judged but hey who isn’t. she’s your favourite queer persons favourite queer person. she was sent to a hero training school due to her mothers worries about her quirk where she met Himiko Toga, the two becoming very close friends very quickly. Aspen has extremely strong physical fighting style using her legs to take an offensive stance but limits herself sometimes by not using her quirk only using her physical body and upper body strength to take on opponents yet struggles against offensive and long range quirks otherwise. furthermore, they were recommended to UA by REDACTED the pro hero being highly commendable within her fighting style and overall ability as a hero especially when she uses her quirk having a full scholarship. but oh the weight it places on her, the weight of being a hero, the weight of the unknown

so please let this blow up id explode, sorry for being a little secretive about the lore but gotta keep you guessing. but id love the input so please share like and comment any ideas for her quirk or to make her any cooler <3

Emry opened his mouth, but Damir appeared at the curtain. “It’s time.”

I've always thought aspen trees are super pretty but also extremely unsettling with the way their trunks look like they're covered in eyes. I knew I wanted the forest to be an aspen forest bc of how gorgeous aspen forests look in the fall with the contrast of the bright orange leaves and the white trunks, and I thought the eyes in the bark just lended itself super well to the idea of the trees 'watching' everyone around them

honestly going in blind can be very fun I hope it made the fic more enjoyable for you!!

I really enjoyed playing around with the foreshadowing and worldbuilding elements of this one. specifically with the gold by mentioning the tree covered in the stuff at the very beginning, but it not being properly discussed till later on. then the little hints that something's going on with tallulah but trying my best not to make it obvious until the very end. a lot of fun balancing aspects there lol

Aspen: Across the River, Chap. 2

It’s now Friday and Friday nights aren’t as exciting as you think. My best friend on the other hand...

Aspen. Asp, I like to call her, she’s my best friend, well best friend is an understatement. She’s been with me ever since I moved to Windbrook. I'm a very independent person but she really knows how to bring me out of my shell and helped me meet all my friends when I first got here. She is the queen of planning Friday nights out. 3am swims, midnight movies, hiking, surfing or even just chilling at home (which those are my ideas of the perfect fridays). She has always been the go-getter.

 “So what shall we do tonight?” She flops down on my bed and puts her head in my lap.

 “Stay home and watch a movie?” I say hopefully “Ha! You're funny, we're going to Claire’s, her parents are out of town and she has the whole house to herself, Molly, Payton and Gabe are gonna be there too!”

 I roll my eyes at her “I knew you already had something planned, why even ask me?” she gives me a sickly smile “to be polite”. I sigh and stand up, Grabbing my green jacket that used to be my dads. As we drove down my street I stare at the thick wall of trees, And my mind drifts off to Foster. Him being so friendly when we first met. Like he knew me somehow. Or surprised I was there. It’s a public park.

 “I met someone the other day” 

The car suddenly stops, I jolt and my seatbelt tugs across my chest. “WHAT?!” Asp says. “God, Aspen you almost just killed us”. “I literally just stopped the ca- wait that's not the point. Forest what do you mean you met someone, a boy, you met a boy? or girl? sorry you know I don't judge” We are stopped in the middle of the road and she’s staring at me so intensely. 

“Yeah, a boy but it’s not like that I was walking Cooper and had my headphones on and he yelled at me from across the river”. I try to look anywhere but her “what was he doing In the woods in the first place? burying a body?”   

“He was just skipping rocks, I don't know” she blinks slowly at me “Did you at least ask him his name?! You're the kind of person that would just walk away if I cute guy was talking to you”.

 “First of all, ouch, second of all, yeah thats true and I never said he was cute.” 

she rolls her eyes at me “oh come on, look at you, you're literally blushing thinking about it ” I sigh. “His name is Foster, He was really nice for a stranger, he told me he just moved here and asked for my name but I got scared and walked away”

“New guy? Foster? hm, I like it, sounds kinda mysterious to go along with the whole skipping rocks thing”.

 “I don’t think skipping rocks is mysterious”.

 She presses her lips together “It kinda is and besides, this is great! maybe you’ll see him tomorrow when you walk Cooper again.”

 “Maybe I don't know, you know I've never had any kind of relationship”. She head tilts slightly “Why though, I mean guys have liked you in the past and you just never seemed interested?”

My chest suddenly feels heavy. “Yeah, I know and I do like guys and find them attractive its just--” 

 Suddenly a car beeps behind us making Aspen drive again. The car falls silent hoping she won't make me talk about it again. I don’t know if Im ready to admit anything yet to anyone. “ You know it’s okay to like someone, I know how you feel about that kind of stuff but it may be good to get out there”. she says as she pulls up to a red light. 

I roll my eyes “you sound like my mom”.

“Well Mrs. C is never wrong” I don't say anything and we pull up to Claire’s 5 minutes later. “Well you and I are going to talk more about this later but for now I'm telling the others about Mr. Rock skipper” as she runs to the door. “DON’T YOU DARE” and I run after her.

Showing your new bunny shifter his room

Sloan POV

You walked into the house, carrying a box of groceries, it was late at night when you got a call from asking her to collect a child, of course, you didn't mind. It was far better than leaving the child stranded all day waiting for sunset

The apartment was clean, as you had recently cleaned up the spare bedroom for any kids she fostered

“Ok, welcome.. uh..” she realised that the department had never properly introduced the kid to her. Which was typical, the person handing off the child seemed rather.. ditzy.

“..a-aspen..” the little bunny shifter was awkwardly fiddling with his hair.

“Well, Aspen, I'm Sloan.. how about I give you a tour? I know the apartments are small, but it's still cosy!”

Aspen slowly looked up, glancing around “..p-pretty house..”

At least the kid had complimented your amazing decorating skills.. even though the house had more of a dark aesthetic.. and the kid seemed quite pastel

“Mhm, glad you like it buddy.. now how about, you and I, go check out the living room? Cus you look like a hungry little bunny”

The boy made a small squeak but followed you towards the living room, you sat down on the sofa, gesturing for him to sit next to you, you turned on the TV, and it opened to the news reporting about a murder. Not exactly child-friendly. So you changed the channel, it was rerunning old moomins episodes

Aspen looked at the TV like he had never seen one before, his little bag still on his back. “Here let me take that bun” You gently took his bag off his back, setting it outside his soon-to-be bedroom.

“I-I'm sorry..” he whispered, it was barely audible, you felt horrible for the kid, he looked so scared.

You walked off to the kitchen, making some sandwiches to go with cookies you had stress-baked earlier, the department's file on the kid didn't say he was allergic to anything, which was good to know.

You walked out with two plates, one had a cheese and ham sandwich, and a packet of salted crisps, and the other had a cheese and ham sandwich with BBQ crisps.

You watched your new little ward's eyes light up, he sat with his legs crossed, the plate on his lap, you opened up your sandwich, placing the BBQ crisps inside of it

“..how’d.. how did you do that..” the boy looked between his sandwich and yours

“Here bun... you take the bread off.. then sprinkle all your crisps on it!” You demonstrated the process for the boy, who looked like you had just shown him how to make fire, he bit into his sandwich, the texture was weird, but it tasted good!

You both sat quietly, eating your food, watching moomins.. “.. I like snufkin.. h-he’s green.. I like green..”

You giggled softly at the little boy “Mhm, that's very smart buddy, snufkin is a very good character..”

“I know my colours… i-i like colours” The boy seemed to be opening up little by little, getting used to being around you.

You gently pat his head, you watched as he flinched he wasn't used to gently touching, you slowly pulled your hand away to show the kid it was ok

“How about... I tell you stuff about me, and you do the same?.. that ok?..”

The boy nodded, turning to face Sloan

“Ok, I'm Sloan, I am a vampire, but I promise I won't drink your blood.. hmm.. oh I'm genderfluid… an-“

“What that..” he hadn't been taught about different types of people

“Genderfluid is… where somedays, I wanna be a girl, somedays I wanna be a boy, and somedays... I dont want anything”

The boy seemed a little shocked but less shocked than other foster kids, he didn't think that was a thing.. “oh… o-okay.. uh.. i-im aspen… im… imma bunny.. sh-shifter.. an-and… i-.. i-i don't know..” he seemed to slowly be panicking more as he talk

“Hey, hey... it's ok!-.. we can… we can think of more fun facts to tell people, in the morning... right now it's pretty late for you”

The boy nodded quietly, gently rubbing his eyes.. he was very tired

“Can I lift you or do you wanna be a big boy and walk?”

He stood up, wanting to walk over to his new room by himself... you offered him your hand which he slowly took

You slowly opened the door to his new bedroom, it was decorated pretty basically, you normally weren't told what kind of kid you were getting till you got to the department.

You looked down at the little kid, whose eyes were locked directly on the bed and the blankets and plushies, you were slightly worried you had messed up.

“Bun you oka-“

He interrupted before you could finish “.. That's my bed..” he sounded so happy.

“Mhm bun, that's your bed, come on I can tuck you in once we get some pjs on you”

You helped Aspen put on a little onesie, it was a green dinosaur one, you made sure to respect Aspen, making sure he was ok with you helping him get dressed so he didn't cry

You gently lifted him up onto the bed, he was too excited to flinch, sinking down into the covers. “Now, my scary little dinosaur bunny.. would you like a plushie for bedtime? Or do you sleep without one?”

“I'm not allowed that..”

“Not allowed what bun?”

“Plushies.. dada said that plushies are for.. for losers…”

The fact that the boy's dad had burned that into his head “..well, your dad isn't here, and I say, plushies are meant to keep ya safe”

He was processing it… “..I-I'd like the plushie..” he looked up at you, you walked over to the box, holding up a couple of plushies till you saw his little eyes light up, even if the kid didn't know he was picking a plushie, he clearly had favourite

You tucked it in next to him, stroking his hair “Now… I need to plan dinner for tomorrow.. so what would you like to eat bun?”

He yawned, pulling the plushie under the covers, holding it awkwardly. “.. I like soup.”

You smiled gently, still stroking his hair as his eyes closed, it was good that he had finally started to let you touch him without flinching.

“Ok soup it is buddy… ill make the best soup ever for you and your little kitty plushie”

The boy's eyes followed you as you shut the curtains in the room, and he looked down at his plushie.. now tucked against his chest*

“..t-this is mine?..”

“All yours bun..”

You walked over, tucking him in and kissing his forehead, before leaving the boy to sleep.
