#oh man that’s a lot of ocs to tag

had half an hour to kill before work... which is also why i didn’t have time to finish details on grif (alas, no nostrils for the man to breathe). anyways, a friend in the rvb fandom recently invited me to join a multi artist project, but i wasn’t sure if id be able to hold myself to completing a finished piece right now. still, it did make me miss drawing rvb characters enough to draw them in this edition of “drawing the eyes first and hoping for the best”

The other artwork from the last few months that I haven’t posted— reverse chronological order. Both fanart and OCs. Some of the notes I wrote will make a little more sense chronologically though haha.

Was going to do drawings of blue team over time. might add one of two more if i feel up to it so i can include Tex and Kai. I still want to finish this… so we’ll see.

The first sketches for the priorly mentioned concept. Also some sketches after I heard that animators in the industry who drew the eyes first got both more dynamic and faster character art. If anyone is wondering, both of those cat kiddos were intended to be Jordan (specific) haha. Though the laying on the grass one really gives Shadow vibes.

Some sketches of OCs— with some fun lettering for their names. The “(maybe)” is because I was so focused on drawing Jordan’s body proportioned correctly that I didn’t think ahead of time about which alter I was drawing, and the facial expression doesn’t immediately make me think of anyone in particular. So. idk it’s someone i guess lol

More practice with body types.

Revamped some characters I haven’t done anything with since high school. Premise is basically these people representing concepts that people value (love, fear, nature, etc) have powers and protect the multiverse. The story basically begins that a few of the Guardians were killed, so new chosen ones must be trained in to take their place… But the threat that took those lives is still at large, and these new Guardians in training must figure out how to embody these roles that they don’t feel suit them.

Happy spooky month! Here's my obligatory Halloween profile picture. I'm a few days late, as usual. But I'll have the actual Halloween drawing(s) done in time... I hope.

Originally I wanted to draw Galacta Knight as a witch, with little eensy Meta here as his familiar. However I wasn't able to work out a witch design I was happy with, and that wasn't agonizing to draw with his horns. Still a fun little concept!! Maybe for a future Halloween...

I still wanted to do something magic related, and from that I got magician. It doesn't match the spooky vibe, but I think it's Halloween-ey enough!! It's the shitty costume bought the day before the Halloween party, how does it get more Halloween than that? And it still allowed me to have Meta as a stupid little creature, so really, I think I still won.

As a bonus, concept doodles of the magician ft. the inexplicably skimpily dressed assistant!

Day 14: Inspiration

Talking about my inspiration makes my brain feel bad, but I got the balls for this one. Tokyo Ghoul ended up accidentally being a big source of inspiration for Primrose Path's story and a handful of the characters in it, so consider this an AU doodle!

yeah ok I honestly didn't expect how much this silly spy game series would grip my brain. idk what about it enraptured me (i know. it's the damn characters and writing) considering I don't really consume that much spy media (but knowing me i don't have hard borders on my interests. if i like it i like it nomatter the genre). but im happy it entered my radar. many thanks to my partner frankie for pushing me into the rabbit hole after hearing her talk about and draw her spy blorbos

THOUGH. FUNNY THING IS. I already had a close encounter with ieytd almost two years before I properly got into it. I was arranging an oc playlist on spotify when it suggested me this song:

i was like "oh cool. this sounds like a spy game theme." then I added it to the playlist because it fit this oc's vibes. I did not check it out however.

fast forward around november 2023 and frankie was gushing about this new game she's playing and i was like "huh. hm. the title sounds familiar". whenever she says the title the song plays in my head. IT TOOK ME DAYS before it really clicked in my head that THEY'RE THE SAME DAMN THING!!!! I guess it was really fate that brought me here. and I'm pretty happy about it.

Oopsies! I dropped more character concepts that haven’t been finished! My bad!

Tunjur! Based on the Palestinian folktale “Tunjur! Tunjur! Tunjur!” with a little bit of “I’m a Little Teapot” mixed in. She’s designed to be a hybrid of a cooking pot and a teapot. She’s eccentric but a little tricky. She’s quick to snag things that catch her interest whether or not she should be doing so. Sometimes this lands her in a little bit of trouble, but it doesn’t stop her from getting into a little more! She’s implied only a child, though. She doesn’t seem to know any better.

Also idk whether I like her with default closed or open appearing eyes more.

Baba Yaga! Based on the Slavic character of the same name, she’s present deep within the musical mushroom forest known as “The Spotlight” where characters like The Three Billy Goats Gruff or Vasilisa may be encountered. She’s designed to be both her elderly self AND the chicken-legged house as one body! The front of the house actually turns to the back where a long feathered tail sprouts to shoo away any unwanted company, as there’s nothing but her in her hut! It’s implied she may have something to do with Vasilisa’s current state, but the two seem to be on acquainted terms. It’s hard to tell whether it’s just toleration or a genuine friendship.

Lastly, the Momo-Oni. Momotaro himself is obviously of his own story, but by the end of Blind Man’s Bluff does something rather terrible happen to the boy…! Of course, this isn’t a fate anyone could have seen coming, though…

Fortune Amidst Misfortune (more lore)

From nearly the beginning, Fortune Amidst Misfortune held little interest for solving the Great Problem. Soon after his creation, his interest was caught by the biological behaviors of his parents' species, the Ancients, which quickly expanded to the biological mechanisms of all natural species. He kept only just enough of his processes dedicated to the Great Problem to keep his creators satisfied, and when they faded out of existence, he wasted no time reclaiming his processing power back from the useless simulations.

Fortune dislikes social interactions with both the Ancients and other iterators. He can appreciate the social behavior from a distance, but being forced into one-on-one interactions make him incredibly uncomfortable and tense. His small local group were quick to realize this, except for one: Thirteen Thoughts of Lights Above (redesign pending).

Thirteen Thoughts of Lights Above is especially oblivious, but well meaning. She is considerably more "mechanized" than the other iterators, and has difficulty with social cues. She only ever reaches out to communicate to her neighbors with good reason, but she tries her robotic best to be short yet polite about it. Fortune is more tolerant of her then he is with the rest of the local group.

(Insert here a few dozen cycles of sparking interest in yellow lizards specifically. Fortune raises a handful of these genetically altered lizards, training them as best as he could while in his stock bipedal puppet. Fortune did manage to figure out a way to disconnect and reconnect himself with his umbilical, but his experience while detached was so horrible that he only did it a couple times and never again. And then the antenna-less yellow was born, and the pack project was discontinued.)

And so when Fortune Amidst Misfortune could no longer emotionally nor physically handle being stuck in his stock puppet (with its thin, too fragile build), he eventually had to turn to Thirteen for help. He has only basic knowledge of engineering, and something as advanced as building a new compatible, maneuverable, and sturdy puppet is out of his capabilities. Thirteen was happy to lend her knowledge and be of assistance. Besides for her, Fortune kept his puppet-revamp hush hush (at least until later on, when investigating overseers spill the secret).

Nowadays, he mostly spends his time researching the wildlife up close and getting assaulted in return. His can, settled into the side of a cliff above a biologically diverse hotspot, has two wings dedicated to holding subjects of study (mostly genetic experiments fueled by curiosity, with the occasional pity-case).

Slugcats would be the obvious choice for any genetic tampering, with how malleable-yet-stable their genes are, but... among his first experiments in the beginning, Fortune abducted a few specimens from the nearby colonies so that he could sample their DNA. And although they were later returned to the wild more-or-less unharmed, they must have somehow communicated their experience with the rest of them, because after that point Fortune would be harassed on sight whenever he got anywhere close to the colonies. So, slugcats? No longer a viable option.

Fortune tries to keep a code of ethics when working with his specimens: no harm without cause, no releasing unnatural organisms into the environment, etc. And he mostly succeeds at this! But there was one notable case of several breeding specimens escaping: batfinches. A splice of batflies and vultures. A small, gas filled prey animal. They invaded the local ecosystem, and even though things balanced out with time, for a while they had been devastating the lowest tiers on the ecological pyramid. They're pretty cute though, so worth it maybe?

Enter the current era with his darling devil lizardslug, Nips at Neurons.

I’ve seen the monitor quite a few times, but who’s the guy that appears alongside it? I see him a lot but I don’t really know who he is.

HAHAHAHA yes this is my time to talk about John he’s my poor sopping wet meow meow of a man

So you probably have seen a very sad guy in my art with The Monitor. That’s John! He is a buisnessman at Startech (aka basically the Apple of my OC universe) and he WAS a perfectly normal guy, until The Monitor was accidentally discovered and made everyone in Startech’s life miserable. John is a special case, though. Unlike the rest of the corrupted employees at Startech (or even the rest of the corrupted minions of The Monitor in general), John has some… well, I’m not sure if you’d call them advantages.

He’s entirely self aware about his situation and didn’t get brainwashed into thinking The Monitor is god. But he wouldn’t exactly consider this to be a good thing because he knows just how bad all of this is, but is helpless to stop any of it from happening. And worst of all, he’s still not immune to The Monitor’s mind control and it will use it on him if it deems that to be necessary. As a result, John will do almost anything The Monitor says without putting up much of a fight because he doesn’t want to lose the little control over his life he still has.

Also, for some reason, The Monitor has taken some sick liking to John and treats him a LOT differently from the rest of its minions. It talks to him with some respect (which is shocking because it has zero respect for anyone), and will occasionally be kind or even vulnerable with him. …But most of the time, it boasts to John about its maniacal plans and likes to make John feel like shit because he doesn’t fight back when it stomps all over his incredibly low self esteem. It’ll also use him as its lab rat to experiment on and use him as a way to test “updates” for its elaborate mind control system. There’s …something going on between John and The Monitor. It can’t be described in any typical relationship terms. They got something going on and it’s really, really bad.

John is very sad and depressed as a result of The Monitor, he feels like the world is doomed and all he can do is stand by and let The Monitor ruin everything. He was already not doing great when he got corrupted but now it’s just Awful for him. He stays at work late (because of The Monitor) and is constantly falling asleep during the day due to this, too. He’s not as social, especially not outside of work. And he just doesn’t have any time for himself anymore, not when he’s being monitored all day, every day. It’s getting to the point that his kid, Jordan, is noticing…
