dates excursions include; trips to the museum to see recent exhibits, weekly pizza parlor dinners, study sessions at the 24 hr cafe a block from the school (in which he always walks you home after), park days where he reads books on environmental sustainability and you secretly draw portraits of him.

in these times, he learns that you want to become an art teacher, your favorite cereal is froot loops with the marshmallows, your all time show is amazing world of gumball.

almost cries laughing when he finds out that you have a secret pet turtle you hide in your dorm named franklin.

acknowledges that he’s falling, but falls even harder when the florist who owns the flower shop you two always pass hands you the prettiest little bundle of flowers and you spend the entire trek to the park, handing out individual stems to couples, children, and the elderly, telling them to have a beautiful day.

it all comes to a head near the end of the semester when he realizes that he can’t keep dancing around his feelings for you and the feelings he’s almost certain you have for him.

tells you to clear your schedule for the upcoming friday night and dresses a little nicer than usual when he picks you up.

brings you two to the planetarium in the city and, instead of watching the exhibit, he spends the entire time watching how you light up.

he knows in his gut that you could be it for him.

he’s loved getting to know you and spending so much time with you.

he’s so immersed in this feeling throughout the entire night.

probably wipes his sweaty palms over the thighs of his pants before shakily taking your hand as the diagram of the constellations shift.

can’t help but smile when your fingers squeeze his and you seem to shift closer to him as the narrator starts the presentation.

and he’s especially quiet after the exhibit, fingers still twined with yours as the two of you walk down the bustling sidewalks of the city center.

two of you probably stop by a dessert cafe and sit outside on a bench in the spring air, enjoying the buskers as you share a little cake.

you’re talking about home and how you’re excited to see your family again and he can’t help but imagine bringing you home to meet all his siblings and his parents because he knows that they’d absolutely love you and—

you’ve paused your speaking, thumb brushing the corner of his mouth and he’s SHORT CIRCUITING.

“shit, that was weird i’m so—”

his palm cups your jaw, thumb on your cheek, pad of his pinky and ring finger soft against your neck.

“can i?” he whispers.

TRIANGLE METHOD !!

he glances at one eye, gaze dropping to your lips before glancing at the other.

you already know what he’s referring to, could feel the romantic tension between the two of you since the beginning, but only become sure of it in the recent weeks.

”can you what?” you swallow.

he breathes a short laugh because the knowing smile that quirks your lips is a dead give away.

“can i kiss you?” he asks softly, absently setting your abandoned dessert somewhere behind him on the bench.

“yeah,” you’d nod, leaning into him. “please.”

before the two of you go your separate ways for summer holiday, he shows you the shirts he bought at the thrift store the first time around, but insists on keeping the shirt that says ‘i'm the wife’.

On "Daddy Issues"

Ok, I know I'm a bit late to the game here, but I was gathering my thoughts after experiencing episode 5 and 6

Let me preface this with the fact that I am a Hazbin Hotel fan; it's cringe and it's not the best writing in the world, but I love the characters and the concept and the art. I know a lot of people disagree and completely despise it and hey, you do you, but this is a silly little thing I enjoy and think is fun

but oof. episode 5 and 6 were rough, execution-wise. Also worth mentioning that episode 5 followed on the heels of episode 4, which was dealing with a lot of heavy topics and gave Angel a lot of character development very quickly and had a wonderful song and a budding relationship between Husk and Angel that was fantastic, so to get a confusing and overwhelming yet completely inefficient episode (ep 5) and then an episode with SO MUCH HAPPENING that it absolutely bowled you over with plot points and world building that weren't given a single second to breathe was really disappointing. I'll put the meat under a read more, but that's the thesis

this post is just gonna be on episode 5, and I'll make another one on episode 6 bc christ almighty both of them are gonna be long

Episode 5 was something I was really looking forward to-- Of the main cast, Charlie and Vaggie seemed the least intriguing to me (oh, did I say "seemed" past tense? haha! they still most definitely are the least interesting!), and I wanted to see how they would introduce something they've been building up to for a while: Charlie's famed "Daddy issues"!

Turns out, instead of actually keeping it as a point of intrigue for Charlie's character and using it as a point of tension to show that hey, Charlie isn't actually a perfect person, and she's also in pain with the rest of the sinners because her own family relationships are falling apart, they solve it in a single episode. That's right! The long-awaited, complicated, divorced parent and child relationship that twisted Charlie into a validation seeking, people pleasing princess that "wants to fix other people so she doesn't have to deal with her own daddy issues" (quote by Husk) is solved with a charming performance by Jeremy Jordan and a song!

Look, it's no secret I'm a huge fan of Loser, Baby-- I clearly have no qualms with storytelling through song. But you cannot song-plain this one away. We've established over 4 episodes that Charlie and her father have kept in minimal contact for seven years. That's a Long time (don't go trying to be like, oh time to charlie works differently, bc that shit's not established, and everyone in the show still treats seven years like a long time). We know that the last time they called each other was 5 months ago.

"More than Anything," solves basically everything by making the following points

Charlie was inspired by her Dad's dreaming

Lucifer was ashamed of his failures and hid away from her

Lucifer does, however, want so so deeply to know Charlie

Charlie wants to know Lucifer

They love each other <3

these are fine endgame points. Dare I say... good endgame points to arrive at?? But you can't stuff ALL these revelations into a single song and call it a finished relationship arc when they haven't spoken for real in 7 YEARS. Also, making Lucifer so goofy and silly and fun and charming is Not helping the establishment of his character as a self-hating former dreamer who doesn't want his daughter to make the same mistakes he did. It just turns him to tumblr sexyman cute quirky sympathetic never did anything wrong and loves his daughter, completely downplaying his absentee parenting.

You can't have him turn from "I do not care about your life. I do not care about your project. I will not ask about your passions and your dreams. I am already ashamed of my own." to "ur so right bestie!!! dreaming is so slay mama!!! I love you so much you're my little baby girl I love you so much, you're right and I will support you!!!" in the course of a single episode without like.... at least 3 real, in depth conversations happening. The song is beautiful, but you can't poetry your way out of an actual relationship arc.

BUT! But, but but! The fault does not lie completely with Lucifer, but also with Charlie. girl just forgave him??? For everything????? Despite having been so scared to call him at the beginning of the episode? It's very unrealistic for a kid to just accept that a parent loves them apparently so so deeply when they've never seen proof of it in the last idk just spitballing a number here SEVEN YEARS. If you want to make the crux of a failed parent-child relationship miscommunication, you're gonna have to get into the ugly--- the grieving of what you could've had earlier, the wondering why you didn't reach out earlier, the anger at why they've suddenly changed now--- and you're gonna have to explain why the miscommunication went on so long.

sometimes, if you have a pair of completely uncommunicative people, seven years may be reasonable. But Charlie is open about her passions! She's public! She constantly reads about "The Story of Hell" and paints Lucifer in a positive light! And Lucifer is quick to reciprocate any interest Charlie shows in him! He's quick to offer help, to spoil Charlie and show love! (Lucifer's points are two points that make SEVEN YEARS of MINIMAL CONTACT and MISCOMMUNICATION make ZERO SENSE).

additionally, Charlie's lowkey only point of intrigue that was set up (her relationship to Lucifer, the King of Hell) is now just... kapoot. solved. pish posh. now she's a done character.

THEN EXPLAIN WHY I STILL DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HER???? I haven't seen her actually struggle in a way that's not played off as a bit, we don't get a real charlie breakdown monologue, there are no stakes for me as a hazbin hotel viewer to want everything to go well for charlie besides my acab rad leftist ass being like redemption and forgiveness is good and ultimately benefits society

she's fun, she's bubbly, she's kind! but those are all basic things we knew from minute 1 she was on screen. I need to see her struggle. For a main character, she sure as hell doesn't feel main. And I expected better female characters from female writers (feat. in my next post, Vaggie????? What the hell?).

While we were naming our blog, it was kind of between Holisticshipping and Feralscienceshipping, as we saw some posts of both. We ended up going for the latter for our blog name because it sounded sillier and because it fit the story of our AU a bit more. They are, in fact, rather feral scientists after all. Originally we tagged with both of those ship names, but I confess it started slipping our minds a few posts in... Perhaps I should revive the habit. Icyhot was actually one we had seen, I believe though Deviantart at the time! So it's very cool to see someone who may have been involved in that very niche group calling it Icyhot. Small world haha. this is HILARIOUS bc i was actually DEEPLY CONSIDERING IT. like. just a few weeks ago. see the thing was i made this playlist, and i was super into it, and i was like, well shit, i already have the rest of this outlined- would i be willing to go on further???

i'll give the gist of it here: basically a majority of the first fic was around the start of his career. this fic is centered around this one album that will come out in a long long time toward the end of the fic + the seven memoir.

the third fic WOULD (heavy emphasis on would bc i'm still not so sure abt it) be centered around the egot.

in case you don't know what that is, it's basically like this prestigious thing where you've won an emmy (tv shows), grammy (music), oscar (movie), tony (musical theatre)

i once responded to this comment on talk ur talk asking whether i was intending on nico ever achieving egot status and i said no, because i don't really see him straying too far from what he's doing rn - he writes music because he loves it, and for the art, not for the prestige, but that i could definitely see apollo getting an egot sometime in the future bc i had mentioned him already having an emmy, grammy, and oscar, so he would just have a tony left and lets be real he would slay on broadway

but then i got into this mini hyperfixation on - if nico were to ever receive egot status - how would he do that?? grammy's are a given, and i went down this rabbit hole for how he could win the others, sticking to the fact that he adamantly refuses to act

oscar would be easy, best original song - something like "no time to die" by billie eilish (which won the award) or "yellow flicker beat" by lorde are movie songs that i 100% think he could write

for the emmy's there's an award for like best documentary pop culture or something like that (i can't find the doc where i put all this in but trust that i did the research at some point) which he could def do, or something that like he collaborated with apollo for - a documentary of some sort

and here's where the mini hyperfixation came in - the tony. now here's the thing i don't actually know a lot abt musical theatre. i was in like two musicals in middle school and that's it. so i did a deep dive on all the musicals that have won tony's, listened to a few soundtracks, found out that the lightning thief got TOTALLY SNUBBED???

and then fell down the hadestown rabbithole

so i'll just leave this info right here - i gave so much detail bc i'm still not rlly sure if i ever want to go into this?? simply bc i *do* know quite a bit abt pop music/production from watching videos and documentaries and stuff, but i'm really not a musical theatre person. so.

we'll see if this ever actually becomes a thing, because i know that greatest of luxuries covers a huge timespan and i'll likely be working on this for *quite* a long time, and we'll see how much motivation i would have to continue it after this! if nothing else, i think i would def go back into the universe from time to time to write little oneshots just bc of how this au has become such a huge part of my lifesjdf

I LOVE YOU!! No for sure ur right and I love a Critical Harry Potter Retrospective (Shaun's Harry Potter video is great for this), but also like... the criticisms a lot of people make of Harry Potter after the fact are criticisms that should be made about Anything, even things that you like. I actually think Shaun does a great job of this too by critiquing the Terry Pratchett story he brings up for playing into the "heroic white man cop saves An Oppressed People" trope, and by saying that a lot of the same criticisms you can make about the goblins in Harry Potter can also be said about the Ferengi in DS9. I've talked this to death on here I'm sure but like, people have this mode of "media literacy" or whatever we're calling it now where something already deemed to be "bad" (either because the creator is actually Bad, and/or because it has been pre-determined to be Cringe) is criticized (again, often rightfully so), but things they like that contain the same or similar or sometimes Worse content is not criticized (if you recall like. people with "South Park fans dni" in bio reminiscing fondly about Your Favorite Martian LMAOOO). So where I'm at is like, it doesn't Matter if Harry Potter has all this Bad Content, because what JKR says and does about trans people would matter even if Harry Potter "was good" (which is, like all art, subjective, clearly a lot of people think it's good and that is exactly why it doesn't matter), but ALSO you should be willing to make similar criticisms of things you like. I do it all the time actually

anon you're quite literally the sweetest human ever and i adore you so much ;-; i'd love to give you some advice!!! but i don't want seem like some self-aggrandizing asshole so i'm putting it under a readmore just in case anyone wants to scroll by it and not see me wax poetic about my own characters and writing process lmfao.

okay so again thank you for being so nice!!! to be honest, i don't have like a blueprint for character creation but this is my general advice that helps me out when it comes to making a new muse.

Be inspired by anything. now this is more of a roleplay thing, not necessarily writing like actual books to make money off of, but what i mean is do not be afraid to be like 'yeah anne rice (or whichever author you like) did this character pretty good, but i can do it better' or to be like 'hmm i like this trait of this character in a tv show, i want to write someone like them' and go from there. and when i say be inspired by anything, i do mean anything! tv shows, books, music, movies, real life events (as long as ur not a ghoul about it), etc. one of my favorite characters, saul weissberg, was partly inspired by julian sands' character in rose red, a stephen king miniseries from 2002 that i loved as a child that like five people have seen lol (specifically how any line of dialogue sounds like an innuendo/he had kind of a natural animalistic sexual swagger). some characters i have are partly inspired by people i actually know in real life, or of course inspired by myself and my own life. so sometimes you'll just want to do your own version of something, like how my desjardins family characters are my version of the show yellowstone or collie's my ripoff of my sweet audrina, or you'll just be like "hm i want a character that's kind of like lestat, but not french" and use that as a baseline/add on more later. sorry i keep using anne rice examples in this she's the only author i can think of rn lol

Don't be afraid to have two characters with similar backstories. like, don't psyche yourself out bc you're like "oh wait, this character i just came up is too much like a character i already have, i'll scrap them or get rid of the old one in order to have the new one." that's totally fine imo because now it's up to you to differentiate them and make them stand out from each other! for example, i have two characters that are drug addicts: hector and junior. now hector is a hedonistic narcissist that does drugs simply because he's trying to find the highest highs in life and he has no ability to care about others. junior is an addict because of a childhood tragedy by his older brother's hand that orphaned him and he tries to numb the pain of losing his entire family by using drugs. they both deal with the same affliction, but for entirely different reasons and they react differently to pretty much everything, so they might seem similar at first but they don't actually have much in common beyond their addiction struggles.

Sometimes the fc comes first, sometimes the concept does. by that i mean that sometimes i'll come up with an idea for a character (let's say... a character that's an artist that has prophetic dreams that inspires their art) and then i have to scramble for an fc that would fit their vibes, usually by just watching a new show or looking through gif pack blogs. other times, i'll have an fc i want to use... let's say... i want to make a margaret qualley character. so okay, what kind of storyline do i want to write with her? she's got lots of gifs where she looks scared/uncomfortable, so maybe she sees ghosts or something after a near-death experience. or she's quite tall, so maybe she's an inspiring runway model or something idk. a lot of characters i come up literally start with something simple as: i want to write about the satanic panic, so i'll make an oc that worships the devil in the bayous of louisiana (blair) or i want to make a character that's a final boy that survived a massacre à la wolf creek (benny). sometimes (or most times, lmao) i just see a face i think is pretty and want to use them, so i'll be like hmmm let's see what i can do with this face. your inspiration can be as simple or detailed as you like!

Rework characters at your own leisure. if you've got a character you just feel isn't working out, switch shit up! add to their storyline, change their storyline, drop them completely if you just aren't feeling a connection anymore. you can always change things back or un-retire a character, it's your blog!

Remember no one is going to care about your muses as much as you do. now that sounds a little cold but it's just like social anxiety in real life where no one is thinking about you as much as you're thinking about yourself. so what i mean is that does any random writer in the tag actually care about what my muse's exercise habits are or what allergies they have or if they have a bachelor's degree in communications? no, probably not!! and that's okay, because all the detail you put into a character is for you. i write detailed character sheets so i can remember than etan has asthma or that alice wears contacts or that frank has lived in detroit his whole life, not necessarily because i think my writing partner needs to know that information. it's for you to inform your writing of said character! but of course anyone that takes time out of their day to learn about your muses is a treasure and deserves three thousand smooches 🥰

Im thinking of things i might not have shared already BUT ill also just drop a rundown of what happened bc i think some stuff has changed since last time i told it

basically mikes 10th or 11th (havent decided yet) birthday rolls around and hes messing w his friends and they lock him out as a joke. mildly annoyed, he just goes around to the back but finds he doesnt have his father's key with him like he's supposed to. luckily, william is there! and. stabs him. charlie dies shortly after in the bite, the missing kids (including mikes old friend sammy who was NOT involved in the party incident) all die (cassidys not in this au btw lol sammys toysnhk) and then sees evan get killed by circus baby. this whole time he's dragging them back because he wants revenge on his father, however sammy doesnt need dragging. he accepts michaels offer immediately. In fnaf 2, the security guard is the chica bully (who i have yet to name and fun fact she's transgenderrr mtf) and mike sends mangle after her while distracting her. she gets bite of 87ed. Michael chases henry into the fredbear suit and kills him, applauds evan for killing elizabeth before ditching him when he explains that he brought her back via remnant, and targets her and henry for the entirety of fnaf 6 before being caught in lefty and stopped for one night despairing over being trapped and shocked. buuut he returns the next night with a VENGANCE. he also joins sammy torturing will down in ucn.

NOW FOR THE NEW STUFF

He's way younger than teen mike but he does still have a habit of lashing out especially at evan. however when he sees everyone die that lessens a bit, and he often worries about evan stuck down there in the bunker, since hes the only spirit michael cant keep an eye on. they are, after all, under his protection. thats not to say charlie doesnt take that role, and she takes it much more seriously. they are TRULY under her protection and she is a lot kinder than michael is. but ill ramble about her some other time lol. when evan scoops liz and is kicked out of ennard, michael is ecstatic! his brother is back and they dont have to worry about elizabeth getting involved anymore! until evan reluctantly explains that liz is not dead for good. michael is upset with him, and evan defends her, saying its not fair that she has to suffer for what their father did and INSISTS that she wasnt actually working for william. but mike doesnt buy it and waves evan off. he cares about him, sure, but hes not exceptionally worried, and now evans pissed him off.

later, when henry goes to the saferoom and michael kills him, charlie and sammy are incredibly upset. they both defend henry, and michael ends up ditching them and turning the missing kids against them. because sammy chose this life to get rid of will, and charlie wasnt even murdered, so CLEARLY they have no say in this. (mikes just a bully and also second oldest only to sammy)

but then the missing kids move on and michael stays behind. because hes not done yet! hisdads still here! and everyone left him and hes soooo pissed because all thats left is charlie, sammy, evan, and henry. (oh and molten freddy) and hes just!!! ARGH!!! ITS NOT FAIR!!!! and uaufhuh
