Book XII: A Judicial Error (Part 2) and Epilogue.

Well, I did it. It's done. All 96 chapters of The Brothers Karamazov. I had so much fun with these last ones that I almost didn't want it to be over. I will not start over because as much as the first ones hurt my eyes, the visible improvement is a part of the project. I got to experience the entire book and its characters again and learnt a lot using a limited tool. I will probably redraw some of them individually if I feel like it.

You have also been a part of it as well: the little comments I've received in these posts and in other social media have brought me many smiles. Enthusiasm tastes better in company.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

OOOOO boy you have no idea how crazy i am about making character playlists. i have so many. one day i will post each of their playlists but as for the very first songs that come to mind........

mitya - you probably couldn't see for the lights but you were staring straight at me (arctic monkeys)

okay so my first thought was depeche mode but we already went over this so this was my next thought LOL these simp ass lyrics are just so very mitya <3

ivan - beach life in death (car seat headrest)

this part of the song physically hurts me bc it's so ivan. just (radiohead) is another ivan song of all time for sure, also basket case (green day)

alyosha - she's a rainbow (the rolling stones)

he is SO beatles-coded but this is the first song that i thought of for alyosha! the lyrics aren't even applicable really but the vibes are PEAK alyosha, the little piano bits & the strings & the whole song just sounds like a sunny afternoon & i could totally see him listening to it!!

smerdyakov - people are strange (the doors)

this is literally pavel. out of the 4 brothers i think his playlist has the most songs that are PERFECT for him (mr self destruct - soft cell, walking in my shoes - depeche mode, hell even you're gonna go far kid - the offspring etc.) but the one that i associate w him the most is people are strange!! it's got the vibe of that positive feedback loop of isolated from society -> hates society for it -> society isolates him even more -> etc

Random Ramblings about a Scene in The Brothers Karamazov 1.3.10

pause. i just realized that mitya considered taking his own life ("there's no reason why i should burden the earth and impose my vile presence on men") until he sees alyosha coming his way, whom he describes, "a human being i love, ... this little brother of mine, whom i love more than anything in the world..." and I JUST — *ugly sobbing noises*

it reminds me so much of the many times i went through the same thing as mitya, only to be reminded yet again that my loved ones are in my life still, and they love me as well (perhaps even more than i do myself) — which i reckon is the same for mitya and alyosha; mitya loves alyosha so much (that he forgoes his ideation, opting to just prank him a little and then hug him instead); and alyosha loves his brother just the same.

Do you ever think about Lambert bringing baby Dimitri to important king meetings and like. He'll start it off with "Don't you dare wake up my son."

Oh absolutely, i think about it SO MUCH!!!!

Baby Dimitri probably spent a good portion of his baby years in a swaddle against his father's chest ( man did not want to give him away to the nurses!! That's his baby, he brithed him ( he did not) and Lambert, the great King of Faerghus, just walking around with a sleeping Dimitri snuggled against his chest is both the sweetest and most unserious sight to behold.

He takes Dimitri to meetings and is just "Good morning, I have a sleeping baby, so please keep the arguments to a minimum. " and no one could say otherwise. Lambert does it on purpose sometimes because dealing with these people gives him headaches, and he knows no one dares disturb a sleeping baby.

And with toddler Dimitri, Lambert would ask for his opinion in such a serious manner, like --

"What do you think we should prioritize this harvest, Mitya?"

*toddler babble sounds*

" I had the same thoughts."

Child Dimitri is a good boy! But he does get a little restless while with his father so most times he doesn't go with him to meetings, but on days he's feeling particularly clingy ( as any kid would be ), he endures the boredom because he just wants to be with his father so he would just take a nap on Lambert’s lap or fiddle with his gauntlets or if Dimitri is addressed, he gives his little kid opinion ( mostly in jest and it gets a good laugh out of everyone but he still tries to give a good answer! He's future king after all!! ) but you bet your butt he's the first to zoom outta that room while tugging on his dad's hand ( or fingers because his hands are too gotdang small!! ) wanting to go training or riding out because Lambert promised!!

Teenage Dimitri of course, takes his time during these meetings more seriously and pays attention while his father and the lords speak and like you said, he does his best in his own input and learns from his time there. Of course, he's also a teenager, so he's still gonna be a little restless too, which would show in him bouncing his leg or fidgeting with the pen in his hand. Lambert would put a stop to that with a gentle hand on Dimitri’s lap or him taking the pen away from Dimitri so it wouldn't end up breaking. Nonetheless! Dimitri is dutiful in his learning, so he often tries to accompany his father to the meetings.
