no, but like. ed says "you don't get to say that to me" when stede is about to say "i love you" and like, stede does stop, and he pulls that SMOOTH fucking pivot, and we get that absolutely gorgeous romantic line of loving breathing the same air and everyone who was like "stede didn't know he was flirting and ed still fell for him, imagine how good he's gonna be when he does know he's flirting" was sooo right

I am filled with love this fine morning for what an incredible character Spanish Jackie is.

She's a badass, awesome Black woman, and she's allowed to constantly be a badass, awesome Black woman. She is consistently portrayed as smart, capable, and highly respected. Not once is she made into the butt of the joke. I adore Leslie Jones as an actor, and I get so sad sometimes because, and she talks about this in a lot of interviews, she's so often given roles that are just a one-note "angry/aggressive Black woman" role.

And Spanish Jacke is calculating, and intelligent, and strategic, and an excellent pirate. I'm so glad we got to see a bit more of her in s2 because she's such a great character.

i know this is retreading old ground but i'll seriously never be over the fact that we got a reprise of "you wear fine things well" complete with an actually real kiss in the moonlight. i'm sorry, it makes me insane. this moment that was so integral to ed and stede's developing relationship in s1 being taken, examined, redone.

"we didn't get this right the first time, let's do it again." it's forgiveness. acceptance. a second dance. "let's try one more time."

and it's not the same--it can't be--but it's not just an idealized memory anymore, a feeling as big and round and glowing as they found the moon that night, but real and tangible.

i just. if we'd gotten a s3, do you think they'd've done it once more?

Especially after rewatching all of season 2, I feel more confident than ever in saying that this is just a damn good show. I'm genuinely done with wasting my time being critical about OFMD when it feels like it was made with so much love and care and even though they were working with a slashed budget they gave us the best show they could. I don't ask any other media I consume to be perfect so I'd hope I can extend a little grace to my favorite show.

At the end of the day, my single biggest complaint with season 2 is that there wasn't enough of it; I wish we'd got more and longer episodes and got to spend more time with our side characters. That's a hell of a nice complaint to have, really, that the worst thing I can say about this show is that I want more.
