Would y'all forgive me if I made the most cringe fail au in existence
#keese draws#band posting#I’ll just go ahead and say my basic concepts for this au that’s not gonna be a serious thing <3#btw this was the dumb idea I had while making that post last night lol#basically my brain went what if… eternal gales…. but with sekai characters as the human kids and bandori characters as the stalliens#and then my brain further went crossover siblings as the snake triplets and I knew I was gonna have to at least assign character roles#I just drew the bandori staliens since that sounded fun to design#but yeah loosely himari is sprinkles moca looser tae beats Lisa alpha kanon mason chisato helmet mashiro dancer rimi busy and tomoe butter#oh and yuri is softie#one thing I realized drawing this tho is that I chose too many blue eyed ppl fjdhkfgsjf#I was gonna chose blood color and by extension powers based on eye color but they can’t ALL have mind reading dhshfjhfhf#and then the other half just has green eyes djdhfkhdj#ok ok. rimi and yuri have red eyes so that’s smth at least#and chisato has pink eyes butttt that’s emotion reading so it’s not much better for balancing :////#honestly I probably should have given himari and tae the dark green energy eyes butttt that could become a Problem#because dark green is injury mirroring and both of them are in roles where that could become Very Relevant#so simple healing powers instead ig#oh btw for mashiro blue energy eyes mirror the eyes of those near them#so since rimi has red energy it’s mirroring her eyes#oh also I am super stretching with tape’s design since that’s a lot of mutations that she has that would be hard to get away with in their#society but also shhhhh this isn’t an actual serious au it’s fine#asymmetrical horns and some fur makes her look better so it’s what I drew <3#anyways I guess this is ok to rb?? idrc tho I just needed to get this out of my system fjdhfjhs

Always You
Say hello to the masterpost!
Part 1: best friends Loving someone is difficult, especially if you're not even sure they know you're a person. Maybe it would be easier if you were best friends, but as it stands, you're not even sure you qualify as friends at all. But maybe not being best friends at all isn't that bad... Tags:  Castiel/Dean Winchester, Castiel & Dean Winchester, Castiel (Supernatural), Dean Winchester, Charlie Bradbury, Garth Fitzgerald IV, POV Second Person, Hurt, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Best Friends, Friendship, Friends to Lovers, POV Castiel, Caretaker Dean Winchester, Cold, Dean Winchester is Soft, Sad Castiel

Part 2: of stars and pebbles You can hear him whispering in the other room. You know it’s him worrying. You know it’s him talking to Sam; or Charlie; or Benny. You lean against the closed door, posed to listen. You should stop, but you can’t. His worry eats away at your heart. It’s been four months, and he never said a word. Frankly, he never needed to. You’ve always know, and yet, you chose to ignore it, to keep pretending it was fine. It had happened, now. The one thing you never wanted to be; you turned out to be. You’re a burden. Part 3: all the tiny things Castiel lied to you. But why? He must have a job; where else would the money come from? You know the answer, you’re sure you do, but you don’t want to.It's your fault, isn't it?                                                   Rest under cut!
Part 4: yellow It can't be all dark if there's a light, right? You get your yellow and your orange and you paint. Maybe that’s all he needs. Just a little light and the darkness would be no more. From this day forwards, it’s all you paint. As tiny as it might be, it could be enough. Maybe there would be light again. Part 5: of selfish purpose You dream of being a shining star in the sky. It’s such a welcoming feeling, being loved by others. You dance amongst the other stars and you even dare getting close to Dean, standing on the same level as him, deserving it even. He smiles at you and it feels like he’s truly happy to see you. You revel in this feeling. When you look again, you’re on the ground amongst all the other pebbles. You look upon the sky, but the stars are all unreachable. You want to raise your hand, to try, but you don’t. What’s the point? You stopped reaching for the stars a long time ago. Without you, he wouldn't even be here. Why, oh, why are you so selfish? Part 6: to keep the light aflame There's a light in his eyes that wasn't there before. It's a good thing, but you didn't put it there and it scares you. He's starting to grow, and it has nothing to do with you. Still, you're gonna move heaven and hell to make sure to keep that there, even if it means buying a goddamn bee farm. Tags: Castiel/Dean Winchester, Lisa Braeden/Dean Winchester, Dean Winchester & Sam Winchester, Castiel (Supernatural), Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Jack Kline, Lisa Braeden, POV Second Person, POV Dean Winchester, Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, mentions of injury, Hurt Castiel (Supernatural), Hurt Dean Winchester, Depressed Castiel (Supernatural), Therapy, Break Up, Lisa is nice Ao3 | tumblr
Part 7: proving worthy by you Your name is Jack. Nobody can ever take that away from you anymore. A name is star-given, and you will prove right by it. For the first time in your life, you are loved and love in return. It's not something you knew you needed, but now you cannot live without it. And so, you will fight tooth and nail for the star that was given to you in your darkest hour. Part 8: to be enough You are glad that they found you in the alley, if only for Jack’s sake. You feel Sam sitting down next to you. What is he going to say? You’re afraid. You fist your blanket. It’s very thin. You wish it was thicker. You wish you could wrap yourself in it. You wish you hadn’t woken up. You wish Jack wouldn’t have gotten a wheelchair. It’s cruel of you. But now he doesn’t need you anymore. You have no money and no home. The only worth you had to him was that you could carry him around; that you had legs. And now he doesn’t need you anymore. | The end of a saga. Tags: Castiel/Dean Winchester, Castiel (Supernatural), Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Jack Kline, Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Friendship, Male Friendship, POV Second Person, Stars, Alternate Universe, POV Castiel (Supernatural), Hurt Castiel (Supernatural), Emotionally Hurt Castiel (Supernatural), But He Gets Better, Castiel is Jack Kline's Parent, Hospitals, Dealing with Emotions, open-ended, but it's happy

Billy had stayed in the hospital for two days following admission just to be on the safe side, but when he’d been released, you’d been there to pick him up as requested. He had tried to pretend like he wasn’t in pain,  but you’d seen through it - the wincing and the holding of his side telltale signs that he was suffering a lot more than he’d let on. Billy hadn’t wanted to inconvenience you by staying in your apartment so you compromised for the first few days and stayed with him, wanting to be there when he needed you, even though he hadn’t asked and you’d had to offer. He’d thanked you profusely for the first week, sounding bitter every time the words left his mouth, and with very little prompting, you realized that Billy’s greatest fear was being considered weak. “It’s nothing.  Fuckin’ bullet isn’t even in there, I’m fine.” He was doing things on his own that you knew he shouldn’t have been, but you were thankful that he wasn’t trying to go back to work, wasn’t trying to work out… he was letting his body heal, and Billy healed fast.
Billy’s mood got worse each day that you denied him sex; not because you didn’t want him, but because you didn’t want to hurt him. Though the wound was healing on the outside, you were well aware of the fact that things likely were moving much more slowly on the inside. Three weeks after Billy was released, he was laying on your couch on his side, flipping idly through TV channels. “There’s nothing on.” He groaned, waiting for you to bring dinner to him, carrying the plates with ease. “I’m fuckin’ bored.” Billy sat up, running his hands through his hair - still short on the bottom and longer on top - and then over his face, where his beard had grown out. “C’mon, I’m fine.” He pulled you onto his lap as soon as you set the plates down on the table, a surprised gasp coming out of your mouth as you felt his hands moving against your skin beneath your sweater, his lips going to the skin of your neck and latching on. “It’s been weeks, don’t you want me?” He breathed the words against your neck and though you shuddered at the sound of them since it had been so long since you’d been with him, you knew you had to push him away again.
“Billy…” You sighed, hands moving up to his head and through his hair, pulling his face away from you. “Come on, don’t make this harder for me.” He shifted beneath you, mouth opening in a whine as you felt the telltale sign of his arousal.
“Hard for you? What about me?” You sighed, shaking your head. “Oh, come on!” He tightened his hold on you, his dark eyes locked on yours. “You’re gonna make me wait forever? I’m not a fuckin’ cripple.” Billy’s accent had gotten thicker as the days passed, his annoyance growing, and though you still had the idea in the back of your head that he would walk out, leaving you for someone that would give into his demands, Billy showed no signs of walking away, no signs of wanting anything  - or anyone - but you.
“Billy, we have less than a week. We agreed on a month.” You shook your head. “December 22 is the official date that I will feel comfort-”
“That’s another four days.” He raised one eyebrow, hand sliding up further beneath your sweater, fingers brushing against your lace-covered breast. “I’ve never had anyone push me away for as long as you, you know?” He was smirking, fingers stroking over your skin. He’s not going to win this one. “A month? We’re gonna waste a month?” I hurt you, and we’ll end up wasting a lot more than that.
“I made you wait two months before, and that was before we were even dating, Russo.” You leaned in, kissing him on the mouth and biting down on his lower lip, feeling him swipe his tongue against your mouth as you pulled away. “Four more days isn’t gonna kill you, and it’s going to give me some extra peace of mind that you’re not going to bleed all over the bed.” He sighed, pouting and slumping backwards against the back of the couch, hand moving back to your waist. “Plus, you can think of it as your early Christmas present… anything you want.” Billy’s eyes darkened in the glow of the TV and the lights from the Christmas tree you’d set up in the corner, brightly colored wrapped presents stacked beneath it. “It’ll be worth the wait, Russo. I promise you.” You kissed him once more, sliding off of his lap and onto the couch, curling  your legs beneath you as you ate. Four more days.
The time passed quickly, and on the morning of December 22 at 12:01 am, Billy climbed into bed with you - his heated, naked skin moving against yours. “You promised.” With a grin on your face, you nodded, pulling his face down to yours as you arched your back, pressing your body against his. “What’s this?” You grinned as he moved his hand against you, sliding it down over your abdomen. “Already naked?” With a nod, you raised an eyebrow, daring him to continue - and he did, wordlessly.
---
Christmas Eve was spent with the Castles, the two of you joining the four of them for an early dinner followed by the opening of presents afterward. You and Billy had bought gifts for the family together, though you’d done the majority of the actual shopping while he was recovering. You’d gotten Frank and Maria a couples massage, and Billy had picked out an expensive bottle of bourbon for his friend, along with a signed copy of Maria’s favorite book for her; he’d gone to the signing in his time off from work, and even Frank had lit up at the sight of the weathered cover inscribed for the woman. Billy’s really good at gift giving. You weren’t surprised, because he was great with details, but at the same time, you knew how little he’d had to look forward to as a kid, how few people he’d had to buy things for… and so it was especially touching to see how he was with his closest friends. For the kids, each of them were given a gift card, and Frank Jr. got a new video game while Lisa squealed over her new purse.
Frank and Maria hadn’t gotten you any couples gifts, but they’d put some thought into what they chose for both you and Billy, and though you hadn’t known them for very long, they treated you like family, too. Billy’s eyes were shining, an easy smile on his face as he opened his gifts from them - a brand new watch  (one that Frank had known Billy had his eye on) and a jacket that you knew Maria had picked out - and the kids had made Uncle Billy a small basket filled with his favorite hair products, which he opened with the biggest grin you’d ever seen on his face. They were simple things, practical things, but you knew that they meant the world to Billy; it was apparent in the way that the easy smile stayed on his face the whole time you were opening presents. For you, Frank and Maria had opted for the practical route - a new pair of gloves, a recipe book filled with Maria’s handwritten cards and two new pillows - but again, everything was thought through, meant for you.
“You guys coming over for New Year’s?” Frank was leaning back on the couch, his arm curled around Maria’s shoulders, the other hand holding a beer. “Y’always do, Bill, and Maria’s parents are gonna take this kids this year.” Billy shrugged next to you, pulling you closer as the two of you sat on the loveseat.
“Probably not, Frankie.” Billy shrugged, taking a sip of his own beer. “Thought we’d spend this one together. Just the two of us.”It was the first time you’d even considered New Year’s Eve, and though you had figured you and Billy would be doing something, you hadn’t been sure. You also hadn’t known that he spent it with the Castles, but again, it didn’t surprise you. “I’ll let you know, though.” With a surprised look on his face, Frank looked between you and Billy but didn’t say a word, instead raising his beer and smirking, throwing a wink in your direction before he looked back over at Maria, who was grinning. Weird.
Just before eleven, you and Billy said your goodbyes and headed back to the city - Billy choosing to stay overnight at your place. After you both got ready for bed, Billy pulled you into his arms and sank down on the couch, pulling you down with him and kissing you tenderly on the mouth. “Merry Christmas.” It was only two words, but the way he said them shook you to your core, causing you to hold him more tightly for long seconds, the silence of your apartment surrounding you. “This is the first major holiday I’ve ever spent with a woman.” Billy sniffed and you shifted onto his lap, giving yourself the vantage point to look at him, watching the way that the twinkling lights from your tree danced across his face, bathing it in the bright colors and softening it even more than the expression he wore did. “You tell anyone I’m gonna say this and I might have to kill you.” He was joking - you could tell with the way he was smirking at you, but you knew that there was some truth to the threat - whatever he was going to say was a big deal.
“You got it, Lieutenant Russo.” You winked at him and he leaned down, kissing you again and moving his hand slowly up and down your arm.
“There’s absolutely nowhere else I want to be.” He took a breath. “Now, tonight, tomorrow… I wanna be here with you. I never felt this way about anyone before.” He paused. “It scares me.” He shook his head. “A lot.” I love you too, Russo. So much.
“That’s the best gift you could have given me, Billy.” You chose honesty with him, shrugging your shoulders and leaning in to press your lips against his cheek, pushing his hair away from his forehead. “I told you before, I just want you.” He nodded, looking back down at you and suddenly the serious tone was gone, replaced with his usual sarcasm.
“Oh, so I can take all your presents back then?” Pushing him gently away with a laugh, you shook your head. “That’s what I thought.” He leaned down, teeth grazing over your lip for a moment before he kissed you hard. “Let’s go to bed.” He cleared his throat, gazing down at you with a predatory look in his eyes. “You can demonstrate all the reasons why you’re on Santa’s naughty list this year.” His arm went beneath your knees and the other around your back, and Billy stood quickly, smoothly tossing you over his shoulder and smacking you on the ass once. Oh, he’s in for it now.
The next morning, you woke up before Billy, sneaking out of bed and back into the living room to start a pot of coffee. On your way, you paused long enough to grab your phone and pull on a pair of sweatpants and one of the hooded sweatshirts that were hanging over your desk chair, since you hadn’t bothered to get dressed when you and Billy had finished with each other at around 3 am. You were sore and spent, but you felt good, felt happy, felt satisfied, and it was all because of the man that was still soundly asleep in your bed, his long, toned body taking up much of the surface as he slept on his stomach.
Once the coffee was ready and you’d sent a few good morning/Merry Christmas texts to the Castles and your friends, you carried a mug for Billy back into your room, setting it down on the nightstand before sinking down gently onto the bed next to him. “Morning, Billy.” You leaned down, kissing his bare shoulder, lips making contact with the skin just beneath one of his surgical scars. As he stirred, your eyes traveled down his back, lingering on the fresh, still healing exit wound from the November incident. He was lucky, I don’t care how nonchalant he is about this, he was damn lucky. “Merry Christmas, Russo.” A grin spreading across his lips, Billy opened one eye and turned his head fully to face you, reaching up with his hand to touch the side of your face.
“Hey, you.” He shifted and rolled onto his side, the hand never leaving your face as his fingers tightened against your jaw. “Good mornin’.” You lowered your mouth to his, relishing the kiss - the way his lips moved against yours, the way he anticipated your actions, the way his other hand tightened against your hip as the kiss continued. He pulled away first, falling back onto the bed and staring up at you, his hand falling into your lap, the fingers finding yours and lacing with them. Every movement was natural - they all seemed practiced though it had only been a few months, and your heart ached again at the thought that you likely wouldn’t be spending the next Christmas together, since he’d be deployed. Don’t think about that. “You bring me coffee?” You tore your eyes away from Billy’s and looked over at the nightstand, nodding. “Good, I’m gonna need it after last night.” He sat up, leaning against your headboard and reached for the coffee, taking a long drink before he spoke again. “I’m exhausted… you wore me out.” He smirked at you, tongue cleaning off a few droplets of liquid from his lower lip. “That’s rare for me, you know?”
With a laugh, you stood, looking back over your shoulder at him. “Come on, Billy, these presents aren’t going to open themselves.” With a grin of your own, you settled onto the floor near the tree, legs crossed. After  a few minutes, Billy joined you, gracefully settling down after depositing his coffee mug onto the counter. He was dressed casually, and as you looked at him, his profile standing out against the tree and the windows behind him, you got a glimpse of the future - of waking up to Billy on every holiday, spending Christmases and Thanksgivings and Easters together, building a life with him right there next to you. Don’t get ahead of yourself, it’s been five months.
But even as he leaned forward, reaching beneath the tree to begin passing out presents between the two of you, you knew that there was no stopping your thought process. You were in deep, in it with Billy Russo, and it was more than the five months of officially dating - it was the time before, the initial eight months of getting to know him casually, followed by the seven months of deployment. It was nearly two years of you falling in love with the man despite knowing better, and as he placed a small box in your hand, you knew that no matter what happened, you wouldn’t trade any of it. “Here, open this one.” Billy’s voice was filled with excitement, and you eagerly took the package - which was wrapped perfectly, all crisp edges and flat folds - sliding your finger beneath one of the paper edges.
He made you open all four of your presents before he would even think about touching his stack, and by the time you got to the final one - a large box, you were fighting to keep your breathing steady. Billy knew you, knew what you liked, what you wanted - even what you needed. He saw you, he listened to you, and he understood you in ways that you didn’t think  were possible. “Careful, Billy,” you joked as you bit your lip after setting your final present off to the side. “You’re this good at gift-giving, people will think you actually have a heart.” His laugh filled the room, and he shook his head.
“Don’t tell anyone.” Growing serious after a few moments, he looked at you, eyes widening and a small frown on his face. “Did… Did I do good? Are they … okay?” They’re perfect. You looked down, fingers moving your gifts so that you could look through them again, even though you’d just opened them. The small box had been a set of sparkling geode coasters that you’d had your eye on since the day you and Billy had been shopping before Thanksgiving. A slightly larger box had been a pair of slippers and a sleep mask, along with a set of blackout drapes for your bedroom. Those are for your benefit, too, Billy. He was always complaining about the light that seeped into your room, but now he wouldn’t have to anymore. The third box was a bottle of your favorite perfume - one that you’d been putting off buying for yourself because it had run out a few weeks after Billy had returned home and the expense wasn’t something you could justify. The fourth and final box was large and heavy, and Billy had leaned against the couch as you opened it, one arm resting on the cushions. It was a new knife set for your kitchen - complete with a mountable magnetic strip that would free up a ton of counter space - and a custom made cutting board, the varied colors of wood arranged artfully into a gorgeous pattern.
“Billy, everything is…” You shook your head. “Yeah, Billy. They’re perfect.” He sighed in relief, letting a breath out and you nodded again. “Seriously, Billy. This is... “ You shook your head again. “Thank you.” He grinned and you reached over, handing him his first present. “Start with this one.” You cleared your throat. “I went with more practical things, Billy… I wanted…”
“Shush, and let me open my Christmas presents.” He had his tongue between his lips, looking down at the gifts in front of him intently. “You used like half a roll of tape on each one.” With a laugh, you watched as he opened his first gift - a new pair of boots that were identical to the pair he often wore - with the difference being that the new pair actually had tread on the bottom and a pair of non-frayed laces. He looked up, winking at you before he moved on to the second gift - a new iPod, since his was old and only had a small amount of storage. “Why do I have the feeling that if I turn this on, there’s already gonna be a ton of music on here?” He tapped on the box, shaking his head.
“You know me too well, Billy.” Shrugging your shoulders, you didn’t say anything else as he reached for his third gift - a long, thin box - and you saw his eyes light up. I should have wrapped that in something else. He knows what it is. When he had torn the paper off and opened the box, Billy looked up at you with a look in his eyes that you weren’t prepared for. “I thought…”
“A blade?” He licked his lips, wrinkling his nose and groaning softly. “It’s gorgeous.” He picked it up off of the cushion that it rested on, wrapping his fingers around the handle and turning it in his hand as if he was checking the weight of the double edged blade - which was illegal in New York City, but had been shipped to you with no problem. When he spoke next, his eyes were locked on the shining metal and his voice was low, almost a purr. “It’s perfect.” Billy brought the blade up to his eyes, scrutinizing the edges before gently running a finger against one. “I love it.” Your heart seized as you heard him say two of the three words you were waiting for, but then as his  eyes moved away from the weapon and locked back on you, it began beating again - the look in them a combination of arousal and honesty and appreciation. Goddamn, Russo. “Thank you.”
“The last two aren’t…” His eyes widened and Billy looked down at the ground, realizing that he still had presents to open.
“There’s more?” You nodded and he made quick work of the large flat box, which contained two thermal sweaters with slightly different textures that you’d been dying to see him in since you saw them in the store, knowing that the way his long arms and torso filled them out would be absolutely delicious. “Red and green… how festive.” Billy was laughing, but you watched as he ran his fingers over the soft material, appreciating the way it felt in his hands. “Ok, last one.” This is the one I’m nervous about. “It’s heavy!” He laughed as he peeled the paper back, fingers working to open the simple, dark colored box contained within. “What?” He took a breath and looked up at you, surprise in his eyes. “What’s this?” You paused before you spoke, reaching out to touch what Billy held in his hands - an etched glass block with the Anvil logo inside of it. “Anvil?”
You nodded, scooting closer to Billy and tapping on the glass with a fingertip. “It’s a reminder of what you’re working toward.” You paused. “A reminder that I believe in you.” Always. “Something to keep you motivated while you figure out how you’re gonna get that company.” A reminder of me. “Don’t give up on that, Billy. Don’t you dare.” He was silent for a few moments, staring down at his hands, and then he set the block down carefully atop a pile of the wrapping paper that was scattered around the two of you, taking a deep breath. Your heart was pounding as Billy stood, reaching out to you with one hand. Without pause, you reached up to take it, letting him pull you to your feet and into his chest, his hand dropping yours as both of them moved to the sides of your face, holding you in place as he lowered his mouth to yours.
“Thank you.” His voice was hoarse, the words quiet. “This is the best… the best Christmas I’ve ever had.” He sighed, kissing you again, no urgency in his action, your hands going up to his forearms, fingers wrapping around the muscles there. “You’re… the best…” He trailed off, leaning his forehead against yours, hair falling forward and against your skin.  “I…” He stopped, took another deep breath and continued. You could feel his heart pounding in his chest, feel the slight trembling of his hands. “I wasn’t expecting any of this.” He was speaking quietly, and you could tell that he was second guessing his words. “I thought you’d… God, I don’t even know what I expected, you know?” You were swaying back and forth slightly in place, Billy’s thumbs stroking over your cheeks as his breath hit your face. “Fuck.” He swore, shaking his head slightly, and you tightened your grip on him.
“Me either, Billy.” With a sigh, you turned your head and leaned it against his chest, feeling his chin resting on your hair. “Guess we know each other pretty well, huh?” He laughed and agreed, falling silent as you stood in your living room together. You’d had great Christmases before - plenty of them, spent with family and friends and a warmth that you thought couldn’t ever be rivaled, but none had been like this. None of those past holidays compared to the way you felt with Billy’s arms around you in your quiet apartment, the way your body reacted to him whispering into your ear, his breath hot against your skin. He’s here. He’s with me. This is mine.
When Billy pulled away from you, he gestured down to the paper and ribbon on the floor, one eyebrow raised. “As much as I want to say “fuck it” and leave this here until later, I think we should clean up.” You nodded, swallowing hard. “We’ll clean up and then I’ll install the magnetic strip, and…” He trailed off, looking into your kitchen. “You can play with your new knives.” Oh, Billy.
“You gonna play with yours?” Stepping away from him to get a trash bag, you heard Billy inhale sharply from behind you, but he didn’t move until you were back in the living room, crouching down to stuff the torn paper into the bag you carried. “Well?” Billy dropped to his knees next to you, wordlessly grabbing at the paper and crumpling it up.
“I thought I had a knife kink.” His voice was low, words laced with double meaning. “I think I might have overlooked yours, though.” You didn’t say anything, reaching for more of the trash, and then Billy’s hand closed around your wrist, squeezing. “Or maybe yours is because of mine, hmm?” Finally looking up at him, you met his eyes, knowing full well that they gave you away. He’d been buried in you for what had seemed like hours the previous night, andyet you ached for him again based only on a few words and the memories of what he could do - and had done - previously with you in bed with a blade. “You trust me with your body with something I’ve never held before?” Without hesitation, you nodded, eyes never leaving his and his next breath left him in a hiss.
“With my life, Billy.” You swallowed, licking your lips and reaching for him with the hand he wasn’t holding on to, your fingers raking through his hair. “Always.” He surged forward, kissing you with a ferocity that you were unprepared for, mostly teeth and tongue, and you were breathless when he pulled away, eyes almost black.
“Spend New Year’s Eve with me.” The words were rushed. “Please. I want to start my year with you.” You nodded, whispering the word ‘yes’ to him, and even as you spoke, Billy’s eyes widened, almost as if he thought you’d tell him no, that after what you’d just shared, you wouldn’t want to spend the night with him. Is he crazy? Is that really what he thinks… “Thank you.” Billy leaned in and kissed you again - slower and more controlled this time, his tongue delving into your mouth and moving against yours, lips soft and warm. He broke the kiss, teeth closing around your lower lip and tugging it backwards as he inhaled through his nose. “The kitchen can wait.” You nodded again, closing your eyes, only opening them again when you heard rustling near the floor.
Billy had reached down with one hand, opening the box that his new knife was in, fingers curling around the handle again. “Don’t tease me, Billy.” Your voice didn’t sound like yours, and you had a brief thought about the fact that it was Christmas and you were most certainly not going to be doing anything with Billy that could be considered good behavior, but you didn’t care. Your eyes followed his movement as he lifted the knife, rising to his feet, the cold steel hanging inches from your face. Without thought, you reached up, fingertips making contact with it as you brought your eyes up to meet Billy’s, which were trained on your face.
“Stand up.” It wasn’t a request, and you complied immediately, breath getting caught in your throat. “This what you want?” Billy raised the knife back into your field of vision and you nodded, watching as he twisted it back and forth slowly. “Good.” He sniffed again, leaning in, his lips right next to your ear. “Good girl.”

“You have nothing to be afraid of, y/n.”
The thunder and lightning crackling in the distance was loud and horrifying and told you otherwise. And you were far too afraid to listen to your father.
“But what if the lightning hits the house!” You screamed when another crack of thunder struck.
“The lightning isn't going to hit the house, it’s miles and miles away from here.”
His words were meant to be comforting, but you were stubborn and chose not to believe him.
“Y/n dear, you’re nearly ten years old now. You’ll soon have a guardian angel to protect you from things like lightning.” Your grandmother chimed in from the kitchen.
“Mom, let’s not fill my daughter’s head with one of your made up stories please.” Your father sighed, flipping another page in the book he had been reading. Your grandmother came out of the kitchen looking highly offended.
“Stories? Excuse me, but I’ll have you know that I have met a guardian angel. And they are very much real.” She directed the last part at you.
“Nana, what’s a guardian angel?” You asked, your eyes full of hope and curiosity. Your father groaned, mumbling a ‘here we go’ under his breath, but you all caught it.
“My dear, you are given a guardian angel when you turn ten years old. And they are there to protect you when you can't protect yourself.” Your grandmother began to tell you.
You couldn't help the smile that spread across your face.
Your grandmother was an avid believer in Guardian Angels. She even threw you a special ‘Coming of Age’ birthday party when you turned ten to “welcome your new guardian angel into your life.” At the time, you were just as an avid believer as she was. Any good thing that happened to you, you attributed to your ‘Guardian Angel.’
But then your grandmother passed away. And your belief went with her.
You were fourteen when she died. So it was four years she spent teaching you her beliefs. But since she passed, your father became your sole source of what and what not to believe. And the first thing he taught you was to rely on yourself.
Your father was a police officer. And he didn't want you to grow up thinking you could have your guard down because some mythical creature would protect you. Your father was realistic. Your father was practical.
Now you were eighteen, and heading off to college. Your father had instilled his mindset in you at this point. You didn't believe in silly fairytales. You relied only on yourself.
You were realistic. You were practical.
• • •
Unbeknownst to you, your grandmother was right. Guardian Angels did exist. And they were assigned a human.
However, there were some things your grandmother didn't know. One of which was the fact that not everyone was given a Guardian Angel. Only humans with pure hearts were given one. You were one of those humans. Now, out of those humans, they were only given one. If the Angel ever rebelled or was cast out of heaven, that human would remain without a Guardian. And if the human died, it’s Guardian would not be reassigned to another human. Guardian Angels were only given once chance.
When Jisung was assigned to you, he was told that he had to, by any means necessary, protect you from death. But only could he protect you from death. He was not to interfere with your life for any other reason than a life threatening one.
On top of that, he was given only one rule. Jisung recalls that day.
“Han Jisung. You have been assigned Y/n L/n. Protect her well. But do not get attached to her under any circumstances. Understood?”
He remembers that day like it was yesterday.
Jisung has been your Guardian Angel for almost eight years now. And as a child living at home, he didn't really have much to protect you from. He saved you from getting hit by a car one time, but that was about it. Anything trivial, like cutting your finger or breaking your arm, was taken care of by your father. He wasn't to interfere with trivial injuries. No matter how much he wanted to.
And he wanted to.
But now, you were leaving home. Leaving the safety of your father and heading off to college. Now was the time for Jisung to actually protect you. You were vulnerable, fragile, and young. Jisung remembers that this is the age that he died.
He doesn't like thinking about his death. Because it serves as a reminder that he isn't human. And that hurts him because, well... he’s in love with you.
He has been for almost almost two years now. And he remembers the exact moment he knew he was screwed.
It was the day he saved you from getting hit by that car.
It was two years ago. You were walking home alone from school. He had been tailing close behind you, a weird feeling flowing through him. He felt like you were in danger but he didn't see any around. Still, he felt he should keep an eye on you.
He didn't have to worry about you seeing him, he had the very convenient power of invisibility. Other Guardians that didn't have the power of invisibility envied those that did. It made protecting their humans much easier.
Jisung watched as you stopped at the cross walk, waiting for the indication light to turn white. He came to stand right next to you, listening as you hummed an unfamiliar tune. Sighing softy as you tugged on the tie of your school uniform. You still couldn't see him, had no idea he was there. You swayed back and forth and he couldn't help but smile.
You looked so cute like this. And you were so unaware of it. That was Jisung’s favorite part, you had no idea how absolutely adorable you were. He had grown exceptionally fond of you over the years. He found himself wishing he could just be human. He wished you would curl up into his chest with a book and hot chocolate, reading him the parts you liked best. He wished he could walk with you to school and back, maybe even while holding your hand. He wasn't sure why he was having these thoughts. He wasn't sure what this fondness towards you meant-
His thoughts were cut off by that feeling again, the feeling of you being in danger.
Everything went so fast. The cross walk light turned white, you stepped out onto the cross walk, and that car didn't stop. It only took a matter of seconds for Jisung to lock both his hands around your waist and pull you back onto the sidewalk.
The gasp that left your lips as you opened your eyes alerted Jisung to his slight mistake. You had most definitely felt that.
You spun around, expecting to see someone there. But no one was around. Your head turned and turned, looking for the person that had just pulled you back. But you were alone.
You stood there, completely dumbfounded. You had definitely just felt arms pull you back, hadn't you? Or did you imagine that? Is that even possible? No you definitely felt someone pull-
Then it hit you.
You spun around and looked in front of you. Your grandmother’s words echoing in your ears.
“Was that you?” You said out loud, seemingly directing your question into the air. But feeling as if it was directed in front of you, at someone in front of you.
You were looking right at him. But of course, you didn't know that. However Jisung did and he was astounded by the words leaving your mouth. He almost spoke, almost said yes. You were so incredibly smart. Another reason he was in-
Oh... Jisung paused, his thoughts connecting. He realized what this feeling had been. Why he was so fond of you.
He was in love with you.
It took everything in him not to show himself to you, right then and there. Not to confirm your suspicion. Not to just lean down and close the small gap between you two.
You were right there. Right there in front of him, looking right at him. And all he wanted to do was kiss you.
Fuck... fuck fuck fuck. Jisung what the hell are you doing? One rule. You had one rule! You’re fucked. You’re absolutely fucked.
Jisung teleported away from you in that moment. He left you there baffled and confused. But he needed to clear his head. He couldn't be that close to you anymore, he couldn't think straight.
From that day on, Jisung had to hide the fact that he was in love with you.

“Hey! You must be y/n!” You heard a cheery voice say in front of you, but your view of the person was obstructed by the large box you were carrying.
“Here, let me help you with that!” The cheerful voice continued as two hands came out the help you put the box down next to the others. Finally you got to see who the voice belonged to.
“Thank you, I think that was the last of them.” You smiled, dusting your hands off on your jeans.
“No problem, I’m Lisa!” The girl smiled, pulling you into an unexpected hug. You didn't reject it however, you welcomed the sudden friendliness and warmth she offered.
“I’m y/n, you must be the roommate?” You clarified, pulling away from the hug.
“Yes! And presumably your new best friend!” She beamed, her energy was indeed contagious. You liked the light and carefree feeling she gave you.
“Well alrighty, new best friend.” You laughed, feeling lighthearted. “What’s your major?” You asked.
“I’m a Dance major, how about you?” She replied as you both started to unpack your boxes. She was very pretty, cute bangs framing her face, petite figure. She was about your height, maybe an inch shorter.
“Studio Arts major.” You told her, pulling out the lava lamp that your grandmother gave you and setting it down carefully.
“Oh that’s so cool! So were both in The Artsy field!” She related. You responded with a smile and a “Huh, I guess that’s true.”
You were surprised by how quickly you became close to Lisa. It was quite interesting because she was almost the exact opposite of you, socially.
Lisa was this fun little social butterfly that everyone knew because she went to every single party on campus. You on the other hand, not so much. You preferred a coffee and a good book. While she found joy in the practice room and parties, you found solace in the art studio and the library.
But you both seemed to balance the other. You suppose that’s why you work so well together. She would force you out of the dorm in one of her dresses and a pair of her high heels and drag you to a party because she was determined to “show you a good time.” You would lend her one of your favorite books and drag her to the nearest café, insisting she needed to “experience quiet time.”
The dynamic worked well. And thanks to her, the first three months of college flew by and were filled with nothing but good times.
However, now it was exam week. And the laughter was replaced with hours and hours of studying, lack of sleep, and an unhealthy amount of caffeine. Saying you were beyond stressed was an understatement. And to top it all off it was absolutely freezing outside, and the three minute walk to the campus café felt like an eternity in the flurrying snow.
You pulled your hood down further over your face, the hem just barely reaching your nose. The snow flying at you made you rethink your location, the little white specks making you think you were in space. Cold, wet, unforgiving space filled with exams and demanding professors.
I hate this I hate this I hate this...
Finally you made it to the café, tugging the door open with so much force you thought you might pull the building off its foundation. Well, that was an exaggeration. But that’s how your mind was working right now. Due to the project you were working on for your Fine Arts class, your brain was constantly coming up with ridiculous scenarios and feelings. It was a stupid project... You had to come up with a painting that “showed an emotion no one has yet to feel.”
Now what the fuck am I supposed to do with that kind of direction?
You sighed, ordering your coffee and sitting down in one of the nearby booths to start brain storming ideas for this project.
• • •
Jisung watched as you sighed against the harsh wintery air. He was amused by how aggressively you pulled the door to the café open. He knew how stressed you were, with exam week and all. He wanted nothing more than to cuddle the stress out of you. Give you as many kisses as it took to calm you down. That’s all he wanted, to keep you safe, to keep you happy.
He sat there in the booth across from yours, his chin resting on his palm as he watched you write down an idea and then scribble it out, crumbling the piece of paper you wrote it on.
He had a couple ideas for your project, a couple of things he has felt himself. Things he is positive no other human could feel because well... he wasn't human. He wished he could share these thoughts with you, watch as you sigh in relief at now having an idea for your project. Grinning at your concentrated face while you paint away. Bringing you a coffee and a blanket to the art studio where you always are. Laugh as you jump up and down after receiving a perfect grade because how could you not. Smile as you jump into his arms from your excitement. Inhale your scent as he spins you around but not before setting you down and pulling you into a kiss. He wanted all of that, wanted you to know that he wanted all of that. He just wanted to be human. He just wanted to be yours...
But he couldn't.

You woke up to the sound of Lisa screaming.
Panic flooded your veins, followed by a feeling of dread as you threw on the nearest item of clothing and ran into the living room.
You found her kneeling by the door that was slightly ajar. Confusion now adding to the mixture.
“Li?” You called out, warily. She turned around with tears in her eyes.
“Y/n... I can’t believe he did this.” She turned back around, something was in her hands. But all your fear and confusion left when she turned all the way around.
She held a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates in her hands, the biggest smile gracing her lips.
“He is the cutest human being in the entire world! I can’t believe he did this! Oh my god am I crying? I’m crying!” She rambled, causing a sigh of both relief and slight irritation to leave your lips.
“Taehyung?” You asked, already knowing who she was talking about.
“Yes Taehyung! He is the best boyfriend in the world, I swear!” She cheered, hugging the flowers close to her chest.
You had to admit, it was adorable. Their relationship was adorable and it made your teeth hurt from how sweet he was to her. But that was what bothered you, it only reminded you what day it was. Your least favorite day of the year.
Valentine’s Day.
“He really is good to you, Li. It makes me happy to see you happy.” You smiled, taking the chocolates from her and putting them on the coffee table.
She grinned, placing the bouquet in a vase and turning to you.
“I know you hate Valentine’s Day... But I have a feeling that this year is the year you’re going you find that special someone~” She sang, nudging your side playfully. You laughed at her shenanigans.
“Lisa, you’re my special someone. I am just letting Taehyung have you because I’m a generous person.” You said in a mock serious tone, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Right, right. And a very generous person you are.” She laughed along with you. “But I’m serious! I can feel it, you’re going to find a super cute guy who loves art and coffee and books and whatever else you are into.” She waved her hands around as if proving a point.
“Whatever you say, Li.” You smiled. “Whatever you say.”

Jisung was back in Heaven. You were sleeping soundly and out of harm’s way. So Jisung was writing in his daily log about possible future danger’s that could come your way, things that he would need to watch out for. It was a Guardian thing, preparing for the future.
However, his attention was brought to a presence approaching him.
“Jisung, how are you doing?” It was Kim Woojin, another Guardian. But he was a little different than other Guardians. He wasn't assigned a specific human to protect. He was a ‘Special Guardian’ assigned to protect humans in general.
In other words, he was a pretty big deal.
“Same as always. You?” Jisung replied, trying to be focused on the other Angel but that was hard with you on his mind.
“I’m doing good, however I come with some not so good news.” Woojin says, catching Jisung’s full attention now. Did he know?
“What do you mean?” He asked, trying to seem nonchalant. But inside, a knot was forming in his stomach.
“It’s about your human, y/n.” Woojin clarifies. Jisung stilled, looking up from his log book slowly. His chest filling with dread. His mind trying to figure out where he slipped up. How could anyone know? It’s not like he told anyone that he broke the only rule Guardian Angel’s have.
“What about her?” He questioned, letting his concern show a bit more than he intended.
“Have you heard of the Demon, Seo Changbin?” He asked, which caught Jisung off guard. That is not was he was expecting. Though he’d be lying if he said he wasn't relieved.
“Seo Changbin... I believe so. He’s the photokinetic one, right?” Jisung asked for clarification. He suddenly didn't like where this conversation was going, for a completely different reason than before.
“Yes that one. He’s also notorious for killing humans...” Woojin explains. Jisung suddenly connects the dots. “And he has being spotted in your human’s area, recently.” Woojin finishes.
Jisung stands from his seated position. Knowing what Woojin was saying. “I understand, thank you for the warning.” He bowed.
“You’re welcome, Jisung. Protect her well.” He said before turning and leaving. Probably to tell other Guardians with humans in the same area.
Jisung immediately shifted back to earth.

You sat in the Library, reading ‘Milk and Honey.’ You were almost half way through it and already decided it would be one of your favorites.
It made you think about a lot of things. But mainly, it made you think about your grandmother.
You missed her. And you missed the fairytales she would tell. You missed the way she filled your mind with infinite possibilities. There was this light and floaty feeling that flowed through you when you still believed the things she believed.
You tried pulling the essence from the book into your heavy heart. Tried turning the bitter memories into sweet ones. Your mind drifted back to the day you almost got hit by that car. To the day you were almost positive your grandmother was telling the truth all along.
“The Library is closing, Miss.” A voice above you said, pulling you out of your thoughts.
“Oh, I’m sorry!” You apologized, not realizing it was already dark out. You grabbed your bag and stood up, facing the Librarian.
“No need to apologize. It’s nice to see that kids like yourself are still entertained by books.” She smiled, picking up a pile of stray books from the other tables. You smiled and nodded, wishing her a good night before leaving the Library.
• • •
Jisung walked around the perimeter of the Library.
He was determined to keep you safe. And if that meant staying here until midnight, that’s exactly what he would-
“Ah, Han Jisung.” A voice sounded, causing Jisung to snap his head toward the voice.
It was him. The Photokinetic Demon.
“Seo Changbin.” Jisung acknowledged, his presence alone making him uneasy.
“So you know who I am?” The Demon smirks, narrowing his eyes at the Angel.
Jisung hummed in agreement, not wanting to feed into whatever the Demon was getting at.
“I hear you’ve been assigned a human?” He raised an eyebrow. “And I’m assuming she’s in this building, hm?” Changbin tapped the old brick building of your campus’ Library.
Jisung’s skin crawled at the way the Demon spoke.
“I don’t know what you’re doing here, but you’re not laying a hand on her.” Jisung stood tall, ready to take Changbin on if he had to.
“Ah, but where’s the fun in that?” Changbin took a challenging step forward. “Besides, you’re not going to be a much of a problem.”
Jisung took a step back, a bit unsettled by the Demon’s statement. There was only one thing that could incapacitate almost all supernatural creatures. And that was Demonized Iron. The only supernatural creature it didn't affect was demons themselves.
Jisung watched as Changbin pulled out a small dagger, glowing a feint red color. And he couldn't even react before it was lodged in his abdomen.
Everything went black.
• • •
The March air was brisk, a little warmer, but still worthy of a coat. You tugged your coat closer, zipping it up all the way to meet your chin. The slight mist in the air alerted you to the possible oncoming rain storm. You remembered hearing that it was supposed to rain tonight, but hoped that maybe you could will the rain away. As much as you loved the rain, you'd rather not have to walk back to the dorms in it.
But alas, willing the rain away did not seem to work as it began down pouring halfway to your dorm.
“Seriously?” You yelled into the sky. You mentally scolded yourself for not wearing a coat with a hood.
The walk seemed twice as long now that you were practically drowning on the way there. You kept your head angled down, trying to see the sidewalk you were walking on. Your hand shielded your eyes from the droplets that began feeling like needles.
A scream left your lips as all of the street lamps around you suddenly blew out all at once.
“Are you kidding me?” You yelled rhetorically.
“No I’m not.”
You screamed again, falling to the ground as you were not expecting anyone to answer. The voice was low and dark. You couldn't see anything, couldn't make out who the voice belonged to.
But you could make out the hand that was now wrapped around your throat.
• • •
Jisung woke to an ear splitting scream.
Your ear splitting scream.
His body jolting to a standing position before he looked down, noticing the dagger sticking out of his torso. He also noticed it was absolutely pouring now. With an angry growl, Jisung pulled the dagger out of his body and ran in the direction of your scream.
Fear ran through his veins. Complete and utter dread. He could barely see anything in the pouring rain.
But he didn't need to see to know where you were. He always knew where you were. You were his human.
Jisung found you being held in the air, Changbin’s hand around your throat. Your feet kicking as you held onto the Demon’s arm, gasping for air. Immediately Jisung threw the dagger he pulled out of himself at the Demon. Jisung smirked as the blade dug into the skin of the Demon’s back. Might not knock him out, but it’ll still hurt like a bitch. He watched Changbin yell, his grip on your throat faltering, you landing on the ground in effect.
You coughed frantically, trying to wrap your head around what was happening. You rolled over and could just barely make out the person who had just been choking you. Another boy was on top of him, his fist pounding into the others face repeatedly.
Your breath left your body as the boy being punch suddenly disappeared from underneath the other.
Jisung stood up, angry that the Demon shifted back to hell most likely. But his anger left him as he turned to you. Immediately he dropped to his knees, picking you up and cradling you in his arms.
“I’m so sorry. I should have been here.” Jisung hugged you closer, stroking your hair. Tears began welling in his eyes. “Please tell me you’re okay, y/n. Please say you’re okay.”
You were beyond confused, you thought for a second that maybe this was a dream. Who was this boy and how did he know your name? More importantly, how did he know you were being attacked by some guy? How did he know to come and s-
You stilled.
“It’s you, isn't it?” You asked meekly. Not sure if you were hallucinating or not. Maybe you were just crazy, but this felt so real.
It was Jisung’s turn to still.
“You’re the one that saved me from the car that day, aren't you?” You clarified, looking at the boy in the eyes now. He was cute, looked about your age, looked completely relived that you were okay. It had to be him.
Jisung nodded, realizing what this meant now. You knew he was real. You knew it was him. And there was no way he could just disappear now.
“You’re my Guardian Angel.” You stated, not phrasing as if it was a question, because it wasn't. You were stating what you now knew as a fact.
Jisung couldn't respond, he was busy trying to find a way out of this. But the next words that left your lips melted his heart.
“I’m sorry I stopped believing in you.” You said, tears welling in your own eyes. “Thank you for everything.” You leaned forward and wrapped your arms around his torso, hugging him tight as you cried into his chest.
Jisung couldn’t stop himself from pulling you closer. He wasn't expecting this reaction from you. He wasn’t expecting to let you see him at all but seeing Changbin, he just lost it. He had one thing on his mind and that was to protect you. But now you knew.
“I wasn't supposed to let you see me...” Jisung finally found his voice. And you couldn't explain why but, his voice filled you with warmth. You felt at ease despite what you just went through. Despite the freezing rain pouring down on the both of you.
“I figured that.” You said honestly, lifting your head up to look him in the eyes. “But I’m glad you did.” You had a sudden urge to kiss the boy who’s been protecting you all these years.
So you did.
Jisung’s eyes went wide when your lips met his briefly. Looking at you in shock when you pulled away shortly after, reconnecting eye contact.
“I know this is probably super confusing and super sudden, but I can’t explain this feeling I have right now. And- well actually I should be the one who’s confused but for whatever reason I’m not. I just know that all this time I have had this feeling deep down that you were real and that I just wanted to meet you and now you’re here and you’re like really super cute and warm and your voice makes feel safe and I think-”
You were cut off by Jisung pressing his lips to yours. Your eyes fluttered shut as you softened into the kiss. He gently held your chin, tilting your head to further deepen the kiss. The rain intensifying the moment all the more. You felt like crying and jumping for joy all at the same time.
Jisung parted briefly to whisper ‘hold on tight.’ To which you wrapped your arms around his neck, confused but nonetheless obedient. Suddenly you were standing in the Library. It was completely abandoned as it was nearly midnight. All the lights were off except for the emergency ones eliciting a soft glow in the room.
“How did you just do that?” You looked back at the literal Angel in front of you. And you could now make out his face better, and oh my god was Angel and understatement.
“Teleportation, Angel thing.” Jisung chuckled. But then his face got serious.
“You okay?” You asked softly. Jisung took a step closer to you, taking your hands in his. He lifted his head slightly to meet your eyes.
“When I became your Guardian...” Jisung paused, trying to force out his next words. “I was given one rule. And that was to not fall in love with you.”
The air filled with silence. You weren't sure of what to say. But you knew how you felt. And suddenly Lisa’s words on Valentine’s Day filled you head. You’d find your special someone this year. Well he felt like your special someone. And that’s really all you cared about right now.
“So what happens now?” You asked, tentatively.
“You know, you’re taking this so much better than I ever thought you would.” He chuckled, his hands coming up to cradle your face.
“I can’t explain it but, I feel like I’ve known you for years.” You smiled, holding onto one of his hands with your own.
“Well in a way, you have.” He took another step closer, there was barely any space between you two now. Emotion was bubbling in your chest.
“I feel like I’m in love with you and I don’t even know your name.” You blurted out. You watched as a smile broke out on the Angel’s face. A beautiful, beautiful smile.
“Jisung.” He said softly, leaning down to capture your lips again.
This kiss seemed different than the other two. More meaning was poured into the simple action. You both were on the same page now. Even if it wasn't directly put out there, you both knew what the other was thinking.
Jisung swiped his tongue across your bottom lip, a grin etched on your face as you granted him entrance. Your fingers laced through his incredibly soft hair, tugging lightly. He tilted your head like before, but this time the kiss grew more passionate. It was slow and heated, it’s like Jisung wanted to memorize every part of your mouth. It felt like nothing you’ve ever experience before. It felt like you were meant to find him, even though he’s really the one who found you. It felt like perfection.
A content sigh left your lips as he tugged on your bottom lip with his teeth, releasing the plump flesh slowly as he broke from the kiss, allowing you to breathe.
Your chest heaved, your eyes still closed, your mind spinning.
“I’m so completely in love with you and I don’t care if my wings get taken. I’ll protect you, Guardian or not.” Jisung confessed. You suddenly felt guilt swirling in your chest.
“Jisung, I don’t want to be the reason you get kicked out of heaven...” You admitted quietly, your attention focusing on the floor beneath you. But not for long as Jisung’s index finger slowly tilted your head back up to meet his gaze. A warm expression gracing his beautiful features.
“If Earth is where you are, then I don’t ever want to see heaven again.” Jisung smirked. The action almost sent you into cardiac arrest, you swear.
“I love you, y/n. And that’s all that matters.” He said quieter. That feeling from before bubbled in your chest again.
“I love you, Jisung.” You smiled, and with that he pulled you into his warm embrace.
“That’s all I’ve ever wanted to hear.” He mumbled against your hair. You smiled into his chest, loving the way he smelled.
“You know, I have some ideas for that art project of yours.” He suddenly piped up. You laughed, tugging him along to the art studio where you continued to stay up for hours working on your project with Jisung by your side. Where the night was saturated with stories and laughter and many many kisses. Where Jisung finally got to be with you the way he’s always wanted to be.
And it only continued after that, your days being filled with the now Fallen Angel that you call your boyfriend, the love of your life...
Your Guardian.

Line of Duty Series 6 Episode 5: Thurwell, Homozygosity, Lawrence Christopher Questions & Theories
https://ift.tt/3dt5mAQ
Warning: contains spoilers for Line of Duty series 6 episode 5
The pause button really came into its own in this week’s Line of Duty instalment, which was even more packed than usual with references to the past. It saw the return of Patrick Fairbank, and the new arrival of a potential ‘H’ candidate played by Jimmy Nesbitt, plus a cliffhanger that threatened the end of DI Kate Fleming (see below for more on that). On top of all that, it turned out that Jo Davidson being related to Tommy Hunter wasn’t the worst of her DNA revelations; her family history is a sad one indeed. After reading our weekly episode review, dig in to the theories and questions below.
What do “runs of homozygosity” mean for Jo Davidson’s DNA?
That she’s a product of incest. The forensic results show that Jo inherited the same DNA sequence for a gene from both her biological father and biological mother, indicating that they were related. We know that Jo is a blood relative of Tommy Hunter, but we don’t know if he’s her brother, father, uncle or cousin. As Jo’s biological parents were related to each other, he could actually be any combination of the above, though as there’s just a 13 year age difference between them, father seems less likely.
We know that Tommy was a paedophile who sexually abused boys at Sands View Children’s Home. Did he also sexually abuse and impregnate a sister, resulting in Jo’s birth? The existence of Tommy’s son Darren Hunter, shows that he did father at least one biological child with a woman. Or could Jo have been the product of incestuous sexual abuse between Tommy’s father and his sister?
Who is Marcus Thurwell?
Only mentioned by name back in series three, Thurwell is a retired officer who’s just shot to the top of the list of suspects for “The Fourth Man”, or the bent copper previously known as H. As seen in police record photographs, he’s played by Jimmy Nesbitt, who’ll presumably be making a proper appearance in the final two episodes of series six. (Nesbitt, incidentally, is also the star of Chris Brandon’s Belfast-set crime drama Bloodlands, produced by Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio.)
Marcus Thurwell was a DCI at South Ferry Station (Danny Waldron’s former place of work) when he took early retirement aged 40 in 2005, having joined Central Police in 1984, aged 19. He’s currently thought to be living/on the run in Spain. In 1998, Thurwell was the senior investigating officer on the case of Oliver Stephens Lloyd, a social worker who was murdered but whose death was recorded as suicide. Stephens Lloyd was pursuing allegations of child sexual abuse by residents at Sands View children’s home at the time of his murder, and was killed for his silence by the OCG, which was running the child sex abuse ring that included politician Dale Roach, senior police officer Patrick Fairbank and OCG leader Tommy Hunter. Thurwell is suspected of having covered up the murder on behalf of the OCG.
Thurwell, along with current Chief Constable Philip Osborne, and imprisoned former Det Supt Ian Buckells, was part of the team investigating the 2003 death of Christopher Lawrence, a young black architect who died of his injuries after being hit on the head with a lead pipe in a racist attack by a gang of white youths. Taken into custody for erratic behaviour following the attack, Christopher was racially mocked by police officers, not given medical treatment, possibly attacked further by the officers, and died in his cell. One of the white youths identified by anonymous witnesses as having attacked Christopher was Darren Hunter, son of OCG-leader Tommy Hunter. It’s thought that Hunter bribed Thurwell and/or Osborne and/or Buckells to suppress the investigation into his son’s involvement.
Is Kate dead?
If you’d rather be held in suspense, move along now, but there’s pretty conclusive evidence that we know the answer to this. It’s all down to the series six trailer, which shows that Kate survived the shoot-out with Ryan. Right at the start, there’s a scene of Kate raising a firearm and shouting “Armed police!” immediately followed by a shot of the lorry park in which a body is visible on the ground, in the right position and angle for where Ryan, and not Kate, was standing. Then at 0:40, there’s dialogue between Jo and Kate, wearing the same clothes as they wore in the shoot-out scene, which we haven’t yet seen. And finally, at 0:44, Jo and Kate emerge from a car with their hands up. It looks like Kate made it this time, but who knows what the final two episodes will bring.
Who gave the order to kill Gail Vella and why?
It was either Marcus Thurwell, CC Osborne or Buckells, all of whom stood to benefit from her murder, but signs currently point to Thurwell, who appears to be running the OCG remotely from Spain and is suspect number one for H/The Fourth Man. Vella was investigating the death of Lawrence Christopher in 2003 (see above) and had likely discovered that the corrupt officers who deliberately botched that investigation to protect the son of OCG leader Tommy Hunter, were the same officers who covered up the murder of social worker Oliver Stephens Lloyd in 1998, to cover up the Sands View child sex abuse ring. Vella was on Thurwell and Osborne’s trail, piecing together the long history of involvement between corrupt officers and organised crime, and she was about to expose it all on a podcast. The day before Vella was due to interview Patrick Fairbank, the senior officer in prison for child sex offences at Sands View, she was murdered.

Line of Duty Timeline: Can This Help To Solve the Jo Davidson DNA Mystery?
By Louisa Mellor
How did the OCG/The Fourth Man know what Vella was investigating?
Lee Banks, an OCG member arrested by Steve in series five, agreed to be interviewed by Vella in order to find out what she knew. Two weeks before she was murdered, Vella asked Banks questions that revealed she was getting close to uncovering high-ranking corrupt officers. He fed that information back to his active-OCG-member brother Carl Banks, who sent it up the chain and eventually received an order to kill Vella and steal her laptop and phone, to suppress her investigation.
So Jo is “definately” being blackmailed by H/The Fourth Man?
The rogue misspelling of the word ‘definitely’ says so, yes. In series five, when John Corbett and Lisa McQueen were communicating with ‘H’ via an online chat room, he misspelled the word with an ‘a’. Later that series, Ted Hastings mimicked the misspelling when he was posing as H as part of a plan to expose the OCG. In this episode, when Jo is told by H/The Fourth Man to get rid of Kate Fleming, she asks for confirmation that it will be her final job for him. The reply “Definately,” therefore, it’s the same person John and Lisa were talking to about the Eastfield Depot raid.
So PCC Rohan Sindwhani was on Ted’s side after all?
Yes. Although his proximity to corrupt senior legal counsel Gill Biggeloe, concern with public perception and general antagonism towards Hastings and AC-12 made him look suspicious, Sindwhani was apparently on Ted’s side all along. When Sindwhani, an elected independent police and crime commissioner, announced in the findings of Operation Pear Tree that there was no institutionalised corruption in Central Police, he looked like part of the conspiracy, but no. This episode we learned that he’d been arguing AC-12’s case behind the scenes.
Why did Sindwhani resign?
Chief Constable Osborne (who we now know was an investigating officer in the Lawrence Christopher cover-up) turned on him for trying to stand in his way and prevent the closure of AC-12. Osborne made a televised statement against the role of the PCC, criticising political appointments to the police service, and using Brexit-tinged rhetoric to call police and crime commissioners unaccountable bureaucrats, demanding that the police “take back control”. That left Sindwhani in an impossible position: do nothing and look weak, or fire Osborne and lose the support of rank-and-file officers. He chose to resign, but urged Ted Hastings to use his remaining time to uncover the corruption at the heart of the service.
Why did Hastings change his mind over bringing in Ryan Pilkington?
Because he now has to work against the ticking clock of the anti-corruption restructure and his imminent retirement. Before, Ted wanted to bring in Ryan to protect Kate and she refused, preferring to keep watch on him. Now that Ted knows he has a deadline, he’s chosen to take the risk of leaving Ryan on the streets, in the hope that he’ll lead them to the top man.
In short: no, Ted’s still not bent, though he did make the dreadful mistake of leaking to Lee Banks that there was a rat in the OCG’s unit back in series five, indirectly causing the death of DS John Corbett (hence the 50K guilt money paid out to John’s widow Steph).
Is the Lawrence Christopher case inspired by a real investigation?
It appears to be an amalgam of the 1998 death of Christopher Alder and the 1993 murder of Stephen Lawrence (presumably explaining the name). Christopher Alder died in police custody after suffering a head injury outside a nightclub. Audio recordings showed that police officers refused Alder medical treatment and racially abused and mocked him while he lay dying. None of the officers involved were charged. Stephen Lawrence, who planned to become an architect, was stabbed to death in a racist attack by a gang of white youths while waiting for a bus.
The fictional Lawrence Christopher case shares similarities with both real-life cases, including the flawed, racist and allegedly corrupt investigation into Stephen Lawrence’s murder. Anonymous witnesses named Lawrence’s killers in the immediate aftermath of the attack, yet only two of the five suspects were charged with the murder in 2012, almost twenty years after their crime. It’s alleged that corrupt officers protected the killers, who included David Norris, the son of drug baron Clifford Norris, who was alleged to have bribed police officers to suppress the investigation, just as the fictional Tommy Hunter bribed officers to protect his own son.

Fic: We’ll All Go Together When We Go (ao3) - chapter 2 Fandom: Flash, Legends Pairing: Barry Allen/Mick Rory, Leonard Snart & Mick Rory
Summary: Doomworld takes some time to fix. Barry and Mick use that time to find each other.
(written for @flashwaveweek 2017 for Day 1: Meet Cute. yes, I'm out of order, I know.)
——————————————————————————
“Going my way, stranger?” a light voice asks.
Mick looks up.
Barry.
Barry.
Leaning on the side of the stupid SUV Mick’s sitting in, waiting for Snart to come back with the goods so Mick can drive them away before the cops come and get them.
…assuming that Snart is, in fact, going after the goods.
Barry isn’t even in costume.
“Did Snart set up this heist as a blind date?” Mick asks, vaguely despairing because that is one hundred percent Leonard fucking Snart all over.
Barry grins at him, that big beautiful smile that Mick fell in love with in the middle of a hellscape dystopia, for the first time unshadowed by pain and loss and hurt, and Mick falls just a little in love all over again looking at how bright it is.
“He told me to tell you he’d parked his bike on the other side of the building in advance, not to worry about him, and that you should take me for ice cream,” Barry says. “Can I jump in?”
Mick grumbles but reaches over to push open the door in quiet agreement.
He still checks his phone, of course – the Flash is nominally the sworn enemy of the Rogues, as Snart’s started calling them – but sure enough, there’s a message in all caps, “GET OVER URSELF ALREADY!!! B877.”
The last bit is code for which safehouse Snart’s planning on being at, and when, to make sure that their phones don’t get cloned or copied or spoofed into sending messages that are meant to lure them into traps. They used to insist on speaking with each other, but in the brand new era of voice patterners, text is just as good at conveying messages as anything else.
Felicity has informed them that she hates them both personally and that she will crack their code one day.
Mick doesn’t have the heart to tell her that there is no code; they just know each other well enough to be able to figure out where and when based on how long a keysmash is involved.
Barry clambers into the car seat next to Mick, moving at regular speed.
“You know you don’t need to slow down for me,” Mick says, starting up the car.
“I’m in civvies,” Barry says with a shrug. “And you’ve always been on me to keep the division clearer.”
Mick can’t help but smile a bit at that. It was one of the things they’d discussed in Doomworld, curled up with each other in the dark; how Barry was letting Flash things slip into his life and visa versa, and how that was going to drive him nuts in the end. Mick’s always been good at compartmentalizing when he needs to.
But that was then, and there, and this is now.
Doomworld is a fading memory in most people’s minds, if not entirely gone already; even Felicity, who they made sure remembered everything, has put most of it behind her and moved on. Mick knows that Ramon and Snow, Resistance members and Barry’s best friends, either requested the forgetfulness cure or simply moved straight into denial; as far as he knows, they’ve never mentioned it, not once.
The Legends –
The Legends kept their memories, but chose to forget nearly everything about it - other than Mick’s betrayal, that is.
There’s a reason he’s not with them now.
That they’re not with them now.
Him and Snart.
Because of course Barry agreed, whole-heartedly, to bring Snart back from his death at the Oculus, to give him the memories of Doomworld in addition to the ones he had of his time with the Legends. When they’d woken back up at home, in a booth in the back of Saints and Sinners, Snart had been shell-shocked and horrified and shaking.
Mick wrapped his arms around him, stares of other customers be damned, and he hadn’t let go for a good, long while.
It’d helped a bit, helped both of them, but still, Snart stayed that way, shaky and unbalanced, for far longer than either of them would like.
Mick abandoned any immediate plans to go find Barry to take care of his best friend, to comfort him and find comfort in his presence, to assure him that the brain damage he’d wrought upon himself wasn’t permanent and hadn't persisted past the end of Doomworld – turns out Snart had gone after the involuntary portions of his brain to carve out the last awful bits of Conversion, the subconscious parts of it, inflicted upon himself nightmares and slowness of mind and ruined the steadiness of his hands, his most highly valued possession, the flickers of movement in his fingers that Mick had seen but misread as anxiety.
Snart, in Doomworld, hadn’t even known that this wasn’t the first time he’d given up his hands for Mick, but Mick knew, and the recovered version of Snart knew, too, but even with all that he still wanted Mick by his side.
By the time that Snart was finally calm again, Mick had time to remember that Barry had Iris back now.
So he’d stayed away, stayed back.
He’d given Barry space.
He and Snart, they’d gone back the way they used to be – heists and arsons and fun stuff like that, easy jobs to help get them back in the groove, get them working together in sync the way they always have. They’d gone to see Lisa, who’d cried and kissed them both, and they’d picked up some shiny new paintings for their walls – but they hadn’t gone back to supervillainy, because Mick wasn’t sure what he’d do if he saw Barry and nothing had changed.
If they were nothing more than enemies again.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, after letting Mick dawdle a bit, Snart had decided to take things into his own hands.
The man simply could not resist interfering in Mick’s love life.
“He really suggested ice cream?” Mick asks Barry, who grins. “Of course he did.”
“He couldn’t resist the possibility of a cold joke, I think,” Barry says. “It doesn’t have to be ice cream.”
“Pizza? With all those weird toppings you like?”
“Yes, please,” Barry says, and his smile is brighter than ever.
They drive in silence for a few minutes.
And then –
“How’s it –” “Is he –”
They speak at the same time, then they both laugh.
“You first,” Mick grunts.
“Is Snart doing okay?” Barry asks. “He seemed fine when I spoke with him. Maybe a bit anxious.”
“His anxiety’s been playing up,” Mick acknowledges. “Think he’s getting better, though.”
He told Barry all about Snart’s issues when they’d been together in Doomworld: the anxiety disorder, the PTSD, the old injuries, the weak spots. He felt like a traitor even when he’d done it, but he’d had no choice. Snart was Legion; Snart was the enemy, and he couldn’t hold anything back.
Snart forgave him for that too, once they were back.
Mick still doesn’t feel like he deserves it, but Snart cut the legs out from under any protest he could’ve made right off the bat, telling him that Mick wasn’t allowed to take away Snart’s decisions on what to forgive when he was trying to apologize for violating his privacy.
Even Mick had to concede the logic there.
He’d at least managed to turn it back around on Snart when Snart had started apologizing to him about the whole Kronos/Time Masters business. That was something.
Not often he gets one over on Snart like that. His partner sulked flamboyantly for the rest of the evening, a sure-fire sign he wasn't actually upset at how things had fallen out.
“Good to hear that,” Barry says.
“The heists have been helping,” Mick adds, unable to keep from teasing a little.
Barry rolls his eyes. “Don’t tell me that,” he laughs. “I’m still technically supposed to be stopping you, not tacitly endorsing therapy-by-heist.”
“Well, this one was clearly a bust,” Mick says dryly. “Since he didn’t even try to steal nothing. I’d wondered why he made me stay in the car…”
“Knowing Snart, he probably did steal something,” Barry points out, which Mick concedes with a grin. “But hopefully, even if he didn't, this evening's not entirely a bust...?”
“I did pick you up,” Mick agrees, though cautiously.
His heart gives a little throb of joy when Barry nods in agreement.
“What were you going to say?” Barry asks, after a moment of pleasant silence. “Earlier?”
Ah, yes.
Mick’s never been one for refusing to face the fire, and putting off pain only makes it hurt more.
So he’s going to ask, even if he doesn’t want to hear the answer.
“How’s it going, being back to your old life?” Mick asks. “The Flash, the CSI…Iris.”
Barry winces a little, even though he must’ve known it was coming. “Iris is good,” he says, answering the part of the question that Mick really cares about. “We’re…not engaged anymore.”
Mick’s eyebrows go up in silent question.
“Eobard brought Eddie Thawne back in Doomworld,” Barry says. “They were trapped together in the Compound. They talked a lot while they were Eobard's prisoners.”
Eddie Thawne, Eddie Thawne, Eddie – oh.
“Her old fiancé? The one that died?”
“Sacrificed himself so that Eobard - Eobard Thawne - would never be born,” Barry corrects quietly. “He’s a good guy. Even I like him.”
“Even though he stole your girl?”
“Iris’ nobody’s girl,” Barry says, and that smile peeks through again, warm and fond. Iris is Barry’s the way Snart is Mick’s; Mick’s always known that. He’d just thought those two kids had taken that step further, the one Snart and Mick were never going to take, the one where they’d wear rings on their fingers that proclaimed the fact that they were one unit and kissed in a way that said the same. But maybe - maybe not. “She’s her own girl. But – yeah. She needed some time to process, after Doomworld –”
Iris was one of the ones who chose to keep her memory. Mick’s not surprised. Journalist like that – no surprise she preferred knowledge over ignorance.
“– and in the end, well. Eddie and I both said she could do whatever she liked, and that neither of us would hold her to any promises made, but she was struggling. Iris never gives up on a promise, never, but this wasn’t really a situation she was expecting, y’know?”
“So you backed off,” Mick says. Always the hero, his Barry.
“I told her about you,” Barry says, surprising Mick. “It didn’t make the decision for her, but it helped, knowing that I had someone. That I wasn’t stepping back just to make her happy – I’m so incredibly done making Iris West’s decisions for her, she’s made it clear how she feels about that – but that I was stepping back for me, too. Because she isn’t the only person who could make me happy, the way she is for Eddie.”
Mick’s throat’s feeling all tight and scratchy again. He hates that feeling, but honestly, he’s starting to get used to it.
“I see,” he manages to get out.
“If you’re still interested, of course,” Barry adds.
“Are you nuts?” Mick exclaims. “Of course I’m still –”
Barry’s laughing.
“You set me up for that,” Mick says accusingly, but he’s smiling, now, Smiling free and clear, a weight off his chest - off his life. Things look brighter, somehow, less clouded.
“You bet I did,” Barry says, smug and cheerful. “I admit, I was a bit worried at first – you’re a supervillain, I’m a superhero, this isn’t actually a comic book despite any similarities we may or may not have to it, and you were back doing your thing with Snart –”
“Me and Snart – we’re not –”
“I know, I know. I believe you, trust me. I get having friends that are closer than family. I just wasn’t sure if I’d – I don’t know. Clutter up your life, I guess.”
“Never,” Mick says. “You only add to it.”
Barry’s cheeks go just the slightest bit pink and he has to duck his head a bit. “Yeah, well. I’m insecure, I guess. Anyway, so while I was moping around feeling sorry for myself, Snart kidnapped me –”
“He did what?”
“I think that’s just how he says hi,” Barry says. “Not gonna lie.”
Barry’s – not necessarily wrong, actually.
Goddamn Snart. He’d been a supervillain long before there were words for it.
(Had he kidnapped any of Mick’s exes before this? That would explain so much about why Alex socked Mick in the face during their break-up…)
Luckily, Barry doesn’t seem to mind.
“Anyway, he gave me a shovel talk and a pep talk –”
“All in one speech?”
“I was impressed, too,” Barry assures Mick. “Anyway, he told me the plan for today, said we ought to get our acts together, forget the bullshit and just let ourselves be happy. When I brought up the whole supervillain-superhero thing, he told me that we needed to remember that we weren’t bound by the, and I quote, ‘tawdry conventions of comic book lit where everything’s an excuse for more drama’.”
Mick sniggers. Sounds like Snart.
“So, uh, yeah. I figured…why not?”
“I’m glad you did,” Mick says.
Barry beams at him.
Mick pulls the car into the parking spot at the best pizza places he knows, then turns and puts his hand on Barry’s cheek.
“I’m real glad you did,” he says again, and pulls Barry in close, wrapping his arms around him the way he’s wanted to ever since Doomworld was destroyed in a bright explosion of the Spear's light.
And this time, he can feel Barry’s blush.

How to Most Effectively Handle the Terminal Diagnosis of a Loved One
When a man achieves their 70th birthday celebration, they will have endured the loss of their maternal and fatherly grandparents and in all likelihood their folks too. Some may have even lost a companion or dear companions. Passing, as the expression goes, is a vital piece of life. In any case, that doesn't mean it's a simple affair to endure. Scarcely.
Nearly regardless, a terminal analysis and the potential passing of a friend or family member shakes those nearest to their extremely center. Scarcely any emergency can equal that for injury. The more youthful the individual and more surprising the finding and conceivable passing, the more horrendous the experience. The inquiry is, if the most exceedingly bad happens, by what means can a man abandoned recuperate and resume a cheerful life once more? Is it even conceivable?
Both at the season of conclusion and after that demise, the adored one feels sad and defenseless to ever encounter bliss again. Yet, certainties are, every one of us recoups to one degree or other and in the long run returns to living. Is there an example to that procedure? Would others be able to's encounters encourage the recently dispossessed?

By one means or another or other, the one remaining behind, finished the course of the following quite a long while, will end their life 360 degrees from this appalling point. Finishing the hover to come back to a glad, satisfied life is a procedure. Every quadrant of the circle has its own difficulties and procedures.
On the off chance that demise is sudden and startling, obviously that is the purpose of most extreme injury. That is the place the 360 degree travel starts, yet imagine a scenario in which your cherished one didn't kick the bucket abruptly and rather was determined to have a dangerous disease. That is regularly the point where injury is the most extraordinary.
That was Richard Ballo's understanding. His life was changed everlastingly when his 34-year-old spouse Lisa was determined to have tumor. "The vast majority truly don't consider accepting a conclusion of a dangerous ailment similar to the hardest part - they frequently think the real passing is the most noticeably awful. Be that as it may, for me and others like me, hearing the repulsive determination was."
All of a sudden Rich and Lisa were looked with an existence and demise battle as the notorious Sword of Damocles drifted forebodingly finished them. Could Lisa survive? She was given a half year to live. Might they be able to discover a fix, summon a wonder?
At first, specialists figured she may have a favorable tumor, yet the consequences of the medical procedure disclosed to them generally. In Lancaster, Massachusetts, she spent seven days thinking and met Deepak Chopra, MD. They went to Sedona, Arizona, to encounter the vitality vortexes that as far as anyone knows held recuperating power. Each offered the guarantee of an approach to wellbeing, a thought, or a logic.
Did everything pay off? Certainly. Did it spare her life? No. In any case, despite the fact that Lisa never made it to the house in Naples, she didn't kick the bucket in half year. Indeed, she lived four years - a certifiable triumph.
Up until the specific end, a couple shared dreams of their upbeat future together. Lisa declared her life span straight up until the point that the time when she could never again talk because of the growth's attack of her body.
Rich trusts they got past this 90 degree portion of the 360 degree hover of life-to-death-to-life by being star dynamic, receptive and unwavering to positive, idealistic reasoning and arranging. "Without that, Lisa would have passed on much sooner, I am sure of that, and it gave me and our children all the more valuable time with Lisa," Rich surveys. "I exceedingly prescribe this way to deal with any individual who winds up in comparable conditions."

I am currently 30 years old and in excellent health but since I am getting ready to start a family, I want to be prepared for the future of my loved ones. After reading about different life insurance options, I am deciding to go with Term Life Insurance for 20 years. I'm thinking about getting quotes from USAA because I am a veteran and California Casualty Insurance because, as a teacher, I get a discount through SCEA. The Aces’ forfeit could cost them a spot in the WNBA playoffs, but there’s a silver lining
Tumblr media
Las Vegas gave itself a loss, which might take the team out of the playoff hunt. But it could also position the Aces to get a better lottery pick and land another star.
The Las Vegas Aces forfeited a road game against the Washington Mystics on Friday, just two weeks before the end of the regular season with a tight playoff race unfolding. The Aces were stuck in more than 24 hours worth of plane delays and layovers ahead of the game, and ultimately decided to not show up despite eventually arriving in D.C. The team’s forfeit was the first in the league’s 23-year history.
The Aces, the league’s worst team for two years running, broke out this season and entered the night 1.5 games from the final playoff spot. Now they’ve given up a crucial game that could’ve helped end a four-year playoff drought and helped an opponent inch closer to clinching a postseason berth.
What happened?
Flying commercial like all WNBA teams do, the Aces were stuck in more than 24 hours of travel woes for their trip from Las Vegas to D.C. The team arrived at the airport at 11 a.m. for a 1:13 p.m. Vegas flight that was delayed three times before it was canceled after 10 p.m. The team had to split multiple times to fly into Dallas through the middle of the night, then split again to arrive in the nation’s capital in the afternoon on Friday.
The team arrived at approximately 3 p.m. for an 8 p.m. tip-off, but never showed at Capital One Arena. The game was cancelled 46 minutes before it was about to begin with fans still in attendance.
The team cited health reasons for no-showing:
Given the travel issues we faced over the past two days,—25+ hours spent in airports and airplanes, in cramped quarters and having not slept in a bed since Wednesday night—and after consulting with Players Association leadership and medical professionals, we concluded that playing tonight’s game would put us at too great a risk for injury.
Naturally, the issue of player safety is of paramount concern for all involved in the WNBA. This issue is bigger than our team and this one unfortunate set of circumstances, and we look forward to being a part of future discourse in the hope of preventing such incidents in the future.
Mystics coach Mike Thibault sounded off about his opponent’s forfeits to SB Nation:
Thibault: I empathize but I don’t sympathize.
I talked to [Vegas Aces head coach] Bill [Laimbeer] earlier in the day and they were [in D.C.] They should’ve showed up. It’s that simple to me. Every team in every sport goes through a day like this or two days like this somewhere in a one- or two-year period. It happens. It’s happened to me in this league several times, the NBA, the CBA. There wasn’t a snowstorm, they got here.
So your obligation is to play. Everybody gets tired. For them to say they were tired... shoot... we played this year in Seattle on a back-to-back after we played in L.A. It was a 4 o’clock in the afternoon game in L.A., it was a 4 o’clock game in Seattle, we took a red-eye and got to the hotel at 4 o’clock in the morning. We were tired. But you play, that’s part of what you get paid for.
On Tuesday afternoon, WNBA president Lisa Borders clarified that the league tried to reschedule the game but couldn’t:
Borders: We worked extensively with both the Aces and Mystics to come up with a workable solution. In the end, given the limited number of days remaining in the season and arena availability, we decided to delay the start of the game until 8:00 p.m. to give the Aces as much time as possible between their arrival in Washington, D.C. and tipoff. While not ideal, it was the best available solution to accommodate both our fans and the scheduling challenges. Since the Aces chose not to play, the result is a forfeit.
So what’s the outcome?
The Mystics got a free win that helps their playoff stance
Washington’s held steady and surprisingly launched themselves into playoff double-bye position despite losing an All-Star in Emma Meesseman, who isn’t playing in the WNBA this season, and replacing her scoring talent with role players and a solid rookie.
The WNBA greatly rewards the top-4 teams with the best records, giving the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds two byes into the semifinals, and seeds No. 3 and No. 4 a first-round bye in the playoffs. That’s crucial as the WNBA’s opening two rounds are single-elimination with home-court advantage given to the higher seeds. The top two seeds avoid playing single-elimination games entirely, and Washington is right in that mix.
Currently, with the free win, the Mystics are tied with the third-best record with the Los Angeles Sparks at 17-11. They’re one game behind the Atlanta Dream for the No. 2 spot with six games left to play.
The WNBA playoff race is truly tight, though. The No. 2 seed and No. 8 seeds are separated by four games. This forfeit really meant A LOT.
The Aces hurt their playoff chances, but the forfeit may have a silver lining
The loss sets the Aces back to 12-16, two games behind the ailing Dallas Wings, whose star Skylar Diggins-Smith has missed two games with a chin injury. The slumping reigning champion Minnesota Lynx are just one game ahead of Dallas, too.
Las Vegas does still have a chance at making the postseason, though.
The Aces have a tough schedule ahead, but it comes with opportunities to pull ahead. They play the No. 2 team in the league, the Atlanta Dream twice, but also play the Lynx and Wings, who sit right ahead of them in the standings, once each. They’ll also play two already-eliminated teams in the Liberty and Fever, both at home.
There are chances for the team to see playoff action still, but a win against the Mystics could’ve made things simpler.
There’s a silver lining though.
The WNBA’s draft lottery system doesn’t run like the NBA’s, and the Aces’ forfeit might’ve helped land a star for the future.
In an effort to avoid tanking, the league takes the combined record of the team’s past two seasons in consideration for which team has the best odds of landing the top picks. The Aces could very well land a No. 1 pick next season for the third year in a row.
The lottery consists of the four teams that don’t make the playoffs, and it’s ordered by worst cumulative record. Ping pong ball are drawn for the top two picks, while the last two lottery picks will go in inverse order of record.
The Fever almost have the top odds on lock, as they have the worst record this season and the second-worst last season, but Vegas is in the lead for the No. 2 odds.
Here are those odds:
Currently, with the forfeit, the Aces have a 1.5 game worse cumulative record than the Chicago Sky. That would slate the Aces to draw with the second-best percentage chance to win the lottery and earn a talent like Mississippi State’s 6’7 big Teaira McCowan to pair with A’ja Wilson down, Louisville’s elite guard Asia Durr to run with Kelsey Plum and Kayla McBride or UConn’s sharpshooting forward Katie Lou Samuelson.
The team with the worst cumulative record has a 44.2 percent chance to win, followed by the second-worst team with 27.6 percent, third-worst with 17.8 percent and fourth-worst with 10.4 percent.
This only matters, however, if the Aces miss the postseason. Friday’s forfeit pushed them in that direction.
Change could also come from the Aces forfeit.
The Aces made a stand by not playing in Friday night’s game, citing health reasons and lack of sleep in a real bed. This could persuade the league to look into changes on how it books flights for the following season, and at the very least, this will be a larger topic of issue for the league’s next collective bargaining agreement.
Currently the league only allows players to fly commercial, and though that’s unlikely to change for financial reasons, the league may rethink how and when it allows teams to fly from other time zones.
It’s clear Las Vegas wants something to change after no-showing for a game it was in town to play.

The Aces’ forfeit could cost them a spot in WNBA playoffs, but there’s a silver lining

Steelers-Bengals was a gross exchange of headshots, and it was bad for football
The Steelers won, 23-20. It’s hard to care, however, because the game was so disgusting.
The Steelers and Bengals have an ugly rivalry history. They’ve played a few good games, but their modern series isn’t defined by competitive football. It’s defined by players doing horrible things to each other, and never more so than on Monday.
Some quick background: Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier left in the first quarter with a horrifying back injury. We don’t know many details yet, other than the team said he would not need surgery and “he continues to improve.”
But it’s hard not to picture the moment when Shazier was immobilized on a flat board and carted off the field. He had his head down while making an otherwise standard hit. It was a reminder of how violent a game this is even when players aren’t deliberately trying to hurt each other. Later in the game, Bengals running back Joe Mixon was diagnosed with a concussion after a big hit.
Ideally, Shazier’s injury would have reminded everyone on the field that some things — like head, neck, and spinal health — should be more important than the satisfaction of knocking the hell out of somebody. That’s not what happened.
In the fourth quarter Steelers’ JuJu Smith-Schuster put an awful hit on Cincinnati’s Vontaze Burfict.
Smith-Schuster got two fouls: one for the hit, and one for taunting Burfict afterward when he stood over the body of a player who turned out to be seriously injured. About two hours after Shazier left on a board, Burfict did, too.
Smith-Schuster could have blocked Burfict effectively without crouching and launching upward to put his head into Burfict’s. He chose not to, and he may have given Burfict a serious brain injury. There was no good reason to do it; there is never a good reason to target someone’s head.
(The Steelers have a particular history with Burfict. He knocked out Antonio Brown in a playoff game two years ago, and kicked a Steeler in Week 7. It doesn’t matter at all. You should not use your head as a weapon to mash another guy’s head, especially on a crack-back block when the recipient can’t see it coming.)
Smith-Schuster didn’t get thrown out of the game, because it’s almost impossible to get thrown out of an NFL game for something that happens between the whistles.
A few minutes later, the Bengals took vengeance on a Steeler.
Here’s an equally obvious personal foul — and equally useless shot to the head — by George Iloka, on a late touchdown catch by Brown:
That’s the head being used as a weapon, again, against an opponent. This happened in the course of trying to break up a pass. Maybe it wasn’t sinister, but Iloka’s intent doesn’t change whatever damage he might have dealt to Brown. (Brown was back in on the next Steelers drive, because this is the NFL.)
These kinds of hits don’t have a place in this sport in 2017.
And they never should have had a place in the sport in the first place.
College football has a targeting rule that would have given both Smith-Schuster and Iloka ejections and automatic suspensions for the first halves of their next games. Maybe such a rule would help prevent this kind of cranial warfare in the NFL. (And maybe it wouldn’t — the college rule is also a long way from perfect.)
But what definitely would help is if the Steelers, Bengals, and everyone else stopped trying to hurt each other’s heads during games. It would help if the NFL ejected players when they didn’t obey, then suspended them for more than a week. Smith-Schuster might get suspended for the Steelers’ next game, but he and Rob Gronkowski are both going to be back for Steelers-Patriots in two weeks.
Seconds after Monday’s game, ESPN’s Lisa Salters asked Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger about the brutality of the game.
“AFC North football,” Roethlisberger replied.
That was all he said. The saddest thing about it is that he was exactly right.
