One Piece Chapter 1026 - Initial Thoughts

And we return The weeks always feel longer without it but One Piece is back from its big 3-part colour spread and a well-earned rest for Oda

But now we return to the Dragon Action, taking it by the ball Z Or something along those lines

Man, the Flower Capital is just a big bowl for Onigashima isn't it? I wonder if Onigashima was originally where the Flower Capital was, and when it was thrown into the ocean they built the Flower Capital from the remains

Hitetsu's worrying about Tama, even though he could've easily been competent enough to fight, but I guess someone has to look after Toko - where's Onimaru btw?

Even more ominous is that Onigashima isn't too far from the Flower Capital now

One of the eye print spies who can broadcast seems to be at the scene of the dragons, able to confirm that there are two dragons, one's being rode by Luffy and Yamato has been fighting Kaido

Luffy does want to encourage Momo to do Dragon Things but he's still being unsure about himself, deciding to dodge the Blast Breath rather than fire one of his own

Quietly, Luffy tells Momo to do something, something he's not entirely sure about, but Luffy's already off to hammer down a Gear Third Elephant Gun

Bite Kaido!? That's a Luffy and a Goku move there, when in doubt bite your enemy

Momo's reluctant, but then memories of Oden Castle steel his nerves

Crazy sonofabitch did it, Kozuki Momonosuke just bit the Yonko Kaido, and boy did Kaido not see that coming

Though it's not doing as much damage as hoped, but when Kaido stares him down Momo stares right back

Yamato looks to come rescue Momo but Luffy's back with the conqueror's punch

Ah shit, the dragons have clouded up the Moon again, meaning that Inu and Neko have been pushed back to their normal forms at the mercy of Perospero and Jack

The performance floor still is getting the broadcast from the transmission guy, where Momo's name is clearly heard to identify the safety of the young lord to the allies

Yamato is just enjoying the ride at this point

As Luffy encourages Momo to stop Onigashima, Zoro and Sanji show disbelief that they're talking about Momo

Once more Luffy stands his ground, declaring he will defeat Kaido

I wonder if BM lowkey respects Luffy at this point, or if she's just laughing it all off

I'd say Perospero is about to eat his words but with that fatass tongue of his it's a surprise he can eat anything

Citing Oden Nitoryu, though clearly not using Nitoryu, Inu and Neko defeat Pero and Jack. I think Pero's candy arm has shattered too

So we're back to Luffy vs Kaido now, which is great, I'm curious though what Yamato will now do though, maybe help Momo with stopping Onigashima from falling? Dunno how but it could work out.

Luffy definitely should get props for sparking confidence in Momo, telling him to bite Kaido was childish on the surface but it also served as a motivation for Momo to act his newfound age.

While I'm not surprised that Inu and Neko won, I am still let down that Carrot doesn't get the final blow on Perospero, since she was most affected by witnessing Pedro's death. I dunno I think I just want more from her, especially since I think she'd be cool in the Nakama. Considering that in Whole Cake she successfully outwitted and defeated 3 of BM's children including Daifuku, plus Randolph a high ranking Homie also plus any of Kaido's gifters during their skirmish at Zou, she deserves some props.

Orochi's return to the field could spell bad things for Inu though, I still think he's gonna die but it's gonna suck if it's thanks to Orochi rather than in combat. At the moment though he seems to want to keep his distance, probably looking for a safe way off the island, but we should definitely be wary of him for the time being.

Kozuki Oden

Coming from a family of stonemasons 💎 in Wan Country, Kozuki Oden was the Daimyō of the Kuri region. On the family level, he is the son of Kozuki Sukiyaki , the former Shogun of Wan Country who disowned him at the age of 18. Married to Amatsuki Toki, he is the father of two children, namely Kozuki Momonosuke and his little sister Kozuki Hiyori. Kozuki Oden  was the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards, a group of Samurai 🤺 serving the Kozuki family. He was also the commander of the second fleet of Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard and was part of the crew of the Lord of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger.  

Oden's appearance

Oden had long black hair and wore an imperial-style beard. He always had a thick mustache except when he was a member of the Pirate Roger Pirates. A large hat in the original style was enthroned on the top of his head as well as a kimono. 🥋 Rather tall, he appeared to exceed in height the vast majority of the pirates of Gol D. Roger's crew.

Oden personality

Being very daring, but also contemptuous and selfish, Oden committed many horrific and violent acts when he was still a teenager. In particular, he set fire to the establishment of the yakuza in revenge for the fact that he was banned from it. Also being a pervert, he kidnapped women to form a harem 👩🏿‍🤝‍👩🏼 in the mountains. Little worried about the consequences of his actions, he took part in a large number of brutal fights, such as against the yakuza or against the relatives of the women he kidnapped. Note that these women, being charmed by his attitude, finally decided to stay with him. Following his incarceration in the quarries for forced labor, Oden finally changed his mind. Become less egocentric, he sought to make the lives of others better. However, he did it the wrong way, which made his actions ever so shocking. This was particularly the case when he wanted to divert a river 🏞️ towards the city to save the inhabitants from a drought. Unfortunately, the city was inundated with it. Afterwards, it is noticed that Oden improved as he managed to bring peace to Kuri after he was exiled by his father,  Kozuki Sukiyaki . Another trait of his personality was his fearlessness and his immense need to sail the sea to the point of leaving illegally. When he was still young, this desire was more important to him than to prepare to take his father's place as Shogun. That's why he was part of the crew of Gol D. Roger . On his return, he made the decision to succeed his father in order to open the borders of the Land of Gold 🏅 and change the world. Moreover, he preferred to choose his own vassals as faithful samurai instead of others.

Daimyo skills

Having been a member of the Whitebeard  Pirates as the Commander of the Second Division and the Pirates Roger Pirates,  Kozuki Oden has been a formidable fighter. Thanks to his impressive physical strength, he was able to withstand an assault from Whitebeard with his Bisento. He was also able to slice the Mountain God with great ease 🌄 when others were unable to confront this enormous creature. In addition, during his first meeting with Gol D. Roger, the latter prevented his two most powerful pirates from facing Oden. Even though the real reason was that the Pirate Lord was excited to fight Oden, it also implies that Oden was very powerful in his eyes. Oden's other abilities are his stamina and unwavering tenacity. For a night and a whole day, he was notably able to face Kuri's most dangerous criminal, Ashura Doji, accompanied by his men and defeat them all. Another example of his endurance is that he was able to get pulled by a boat for several days just by being hung on a chain. Another of his exploits is to have been able to withstand more than an entire hour immersed in a pot of boiling water while at the same time carrying on his shoulders a large wooden plank where all his vassals were standing. Like Monkey D. Luffy , Gol D. Roger or his son Kozuki Momonosuke, Oden possesses the power to hear the voice 🗣️ of all things, this ability that allows whoever possesses it to understand creatures or even inanimate objects even s 'they don't speak the same language as him. In addition, thanks to this ability, Oden is able to read Poneglyphs. These are these mysterious blocks of stone scattered around the islands of the Grand Line and where we find inscribed in esoteric language the location of the Ancient Weapons as well as the location of the Laugh Tale where the legendary One Piece treasure is said to be hidden.   Right

Kozuki Oden has a great mastery of  Busoshoku no Haki or Haki of Weaponry , which is known as Ryuo in Wan Land. We saw him in particular during his confrontation with Whitebeard when he impregnated his sabers with Combative Fluid. It is important to note that Oden is the only one to date to have been able to control one of the 83 legendary Meito: Enma, while the latter can drain the Fluid from its user until it is depleted. . As criminal Ashura Doji revealed, Oden also possesses the Haoshoku no Haki or Haki of Kings . He used it in particular in chapter 963 of volume 96 of the One Piece manga during his conflict with Whitebeard. The D'oden blade

Adept at fighting with two sabers, Oden has developed his own style called the  Nitoryu of Oden which is based on the use of two blades at the same time. The Meito Enma known as "The Sword That Can Cut Hell" was his first saber. This is the only blade known to date to have injured Kaido at the Hundred Beasts. 🐲 Oden used another Meito as his second sword, the Ame no Habakiri or "Sword that can cut through the sky". Forged by Tenguyama Hitetsu, the latter is part of the Ô Wazamono, otherwise known as the 21 Great Blades.

To this day, we only know of five members of this family: Kozuki Sukiyaki, Oden's father and former Shogun of Wan Country, Kozuki Oden himself, his wife Toki and his two children Momonosuke and Hiyori. Oden cared deeply about his clan as when he sacrificed himself in order to allow his son Momonosuke, threatened by the pirates ☠️ of Kaido, to escape. The Minks

Among the allies of Kozuki Oden and his family are the mighty Minks, this tribe of humanoids with animal characteristics. Indeed, Oden and his family have a very friendly, even almost fraternal, relationship with these Minks. Two of their members are even in the service of the Daimyō of Kuri, namely  Inuarashi the King of Dawn (a dog 🐶 Mink) and Nekomamushi the King of Twilight (a Mink cat) , while they were themselves both. Dukes of the Principality of Mokomo on the island of Zô. These two Minks followed Oden everywhere and were considered members of The Whitebeard Pirates as well as Gol D. Roger. Thanks to their unwavering loyalty to the Kozuki family, all Minks respected the Kozuki enormously to the point of even giving their lives for one of their other vassals. Indeed, Inuarashi was ready to sacrifice his whole Kingdom as well as his people in order to protect the ninja Raizo of the Mist, servant of the Kozuki and member of the Nine Red Scabbards. For his part, Nekomamushi sacrificed himself and lost an arm during the same event. Being rivals for a long time, these two Minks even agreed to make peace in order to satisfy Oden's son, Momonosuke. Kozuki Oden was once a member of the Roger Pirates. He was notably present when they disembarked at Laugh Tale and it was in their company that Oden learned the real story. It is also the members of this crew who nicknamed this island Laugh 😹 Tale, which means the story of those who laugh, because all of them laughed after they found the island as well as the pretty nest egg. that Joy Boy left there 800 years ago. There seems to be a very good understanding between Oden and the other pirates of Roger's crew. According to the latter, they were downright very lucky to have Oden among them. It turns out that Shanks the Red and Baggy the Clown had even offered to help him make his dream come true. The Whitebeard Crew

Prior to joining the Gol D. Roger Pirates, Oden was previously on the Whitebeard Pirates. He had even become the Commander of his second fleet. If we are to believe the words of Sengoku the Buddha, the ex-Admiral Commander-in-Chief of the Navy , and the Mink Inuarashi, Whitebeard had a lot of affection for Oden. And yet their story had not begun under the best of auspices. Indeed, at their first meeting, there was a confrontation between the two men 🤼 as Oden had expressed a desire to join the crew. Crazy with rage against Oden because of his surprise attack on their captain, the crew members were not at all inclined to welcome him among them. For his part, Whitebeard had also declined his proposal especially since he found Oden to be wild in nature and that Oden was not too much of the kind of individual to serve anyone other than himself. From his experience, he knew that this could have terrible consequences such as a mutiny. And on the other hand, However, as time went on, Whitebeard and his pirates noticed that Oden was truly determined and that nothing could stop him in his urge to join them. Recall that he had clung to their ship just by holding on to a chain ⛓️ for days. In addition, the latter showed them an immense kindness, which had impressed them. So they finally accepted that he join them and congratulated him by throwing him in the air. Afterwards, Whitebeard's confidence in Oden had grown so much that he made him one of the commanders of his fleet. On the other hand, the understanding between Oden and the other members of the crew had improved to the point that they were always ready to help him whenever  

The 9 children of Oden, the Red Scabbards

The group called the Nine Red Fourreaux was formed informally 41 years ago. This was following the denial of Oden by his father the Shogun Kozuki Sukiyaki. These are 9 orphan children taken in by Oden and whom he made very powerful Samurai. Kinemon aka The Fire Fox and Denjiro (later  Kyoshiro the Sleepy 💤 on Oden's death)  were the first two to join Oden and follow him out of the Flower Capital after the events with the mountain god. Kinemon would later become the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards and he had stated that he was even willing to give his life for Oden. When theTaikomochi Shimotsuki Yasuie had asked Kinemon why he and the others obeyed Oden, he replied that Oden was the only person in the world to whom they all owed their lives. Kinemon and Denjiro had even gotten to the point of arguing over which one was Kuri's Daimyō favorite. Next are the others who were recruited after Oden rescued them throughout his journey across the country. First of all, Oden met Izou and Kikunojo, two orphaned brothers, in the Ringo region of Wan Land. Then it was in the Kibi region that he met Kurozumi Kanjuro who wanted to steal his horses 🐎 but the latter was defeated and joined Oden. Afterwards, it was the turn of an excellent ninja and ex O-Niwaban, Raizo de la Brume to follow him. After the clash and Oden's victory over Ashura Doji, the latter also joined him. It was after that, 39 years ago, that Oden had transformed Kuri into a land where it was nice to live. His father then put an end to his denial and named him Daimyō de Kuri. With this appointment, Oden made the decision to make samurai of his six recruits and formally form the Red Scabbard. Six years later, 3 other young people joined their ranks. These are the Minks Nekomamushi and Inuarashi as well as  Kawamatsu, the Fugu fishman . 🐠 You should know that these three young people found themselves stranded on Kuri beach. Villagers had mistreated them for not being human, but Oden saved them, which is why they had come to his service and joined the Red Scabbards. We can also talk about Izô recruited also 39 years ago and who remained at least 9 years in the service of Oden. However, as the group is known today as the Nine Fourreaux Rouges, it can be deduced that Izô was never part of it.

Oden's greatest enemy, Kaido

Kozuki Oden and Kaido of the Hundred Beasts were enemies. Indeed, the Yonkô had allied with Kurozumi Orochi to bring him military support when the latter had seized the status of Shogun in Wano during Oden's absence. It happened 28 years ago with the help of Kurozumi Higurashi aka The Old Woman . 👵🏼 Upon his return 25 years ago, Oden discovered the changes in the country and learned that the Emperor had wanted to remove his children Momonosuke and Hiyori. Seeing that his wife Toki was injured in the thigh by an arrow while protecting her children, Oden went into a mad rage and rushed to the castle to chastise those responsible. Unfortunately, he came up against the very solid barriers of  Bari Bari no Mi,, d'Orochi. It was at this point that Oden was forced to make a deal with Orochi and Kaido in order to protect the people of Wano. Indeed, Oden had to dance 🕺🏼 almost naked in the streets of the Capitale Fleurie every week for 5 years if he did not want to see 100 people die every day. At the same time, even if he lost all credibility in front of his people, he also wanted to avoid a war against the Hundred Beast Pirates.which would have caused several thousand deaths among the inhabitants. In return, Kaido promised to provide him with a ship that he could use to leave Wano with his family and his vassals. However, once the 5 years had passed, Emperor Kaido broke his promise. And when he killed 16 of Flower Hyogoro's subordinates as well as his wife because of his rebellion, Oden got angry and confronted him. During their clash, Kaido was scarred for life with a scar inflicted by Oden. Unfortunately, the latter lost the fight due to a cunning of Kurozumi Higurashi. The latter had pretended to be her son Momonosuke taken hostage thanks to his Devil Fruit Mane Mane no Mi (Travesti-Fruit) . Having been distracted, Oden could not avoid Kaido's K anabo ⛏️ blow. Angry with the Old Woman for interfering in their confrontation, Kaido killed her. Even though he had won the fight, the Yonko had respect for Oden and he decided he would perform it himself so that he would be remembered for a long time. And the choice was the killing by scalding in a huge pot.

Story

Kozuki Oden's story begins with his birth, 👩🏼‍🍼 in the Capital of Flowers,��59 years before One Piece's main narrative. He started his escapades at an early age and they were numerous. Here is a small enumeration: - When he was still less than a year old, he managed to throw his nanny with a single punch. - At the age of two, he managed to get his hands on two fleeing rabbits. - At the age of 4, he terraced a bear 🧸 thanks to a rock - At 6 years old when he entered the pleasure district to indulge in games of chance while stoning the family fortune. - He was only 8 years old when he started drinking and bathing 🛀🏼 with the Yakuza in their establishments when it was forbidden to enter without being Yakuza. He was then banned from entering these establishments the following year. - At the age of 10, wanting revenge on the Yakuza, he burned down one of their establishments and faced them in a fight. He was then arrested for assault and battery. - It was after his confinement in a quarry to cut stones that Oden changed his attitude. He now wanted to help others once he had served his sentence, but these acts unfortunately turned out to be awkward. When he was 14 years old when a terrible drought was raging in the country, he made the decision to divert the course of a river so that it reached the capital and saved the people. Unfortunately, his action had terrible consequences since it caused huge floods. Then charged with this incident, he tried for the first time to flee by sea 🌊 but his attempt was unsuccessful. - At 15, he decided to take refuge in the mountains. Unfortunately, his old quirks took over. He began to kidnap women in the capital at night to bring them to his temple in the mountains where he created a veritable harem. When the relatives of these women (husbands, lovers or family) tried to get them back by defying him, the consequence was a war, the Harem War to be precise. The latter only ended thanks to the intervention of the most influential and powerful Yakuza of the Land of the Wazas at the time:  Hyogoro of the flower . You should know that at the age of 18, Oden had already tried 38 times to go to sea, but he never succeeded so far. He even nearly lost his life on several occasions. Since then, his reputation is well established in the capital and all the inhabitants kept laughing at him, even insulting him. Besides, the young Oden didn't stop making his own. Infuriated by his son,  Kozuki Sukiyakimade the decision to deny it. And Read the full article

One Piece Chapter 992: Initial Thoughts

Late, but also early. 992 arrived delayed a day earlier than I expected for a color spread and the SJ cover. So let’s run down the chapter

Spoilers for Chapter 992, Support the Official Release

Gonna start with the SJ cover since it revealed Yamato’s color scheme. It’s actually not far from a lot of fanart I saw a while back, I think everyone was anticipating the white gradient hair. The red horns was a surprise and I kinda thought that their kimono would be Orange like Oden’s color scheme but it wasn’t unwelcome.

Then there’s also the colour spread: then crew on a train. Few small nods here and there, a blue Kaido-like dragon is on the bowl Zoro is eating from (another bowl near Chopper may have Shusui’s scabbard print), Jimbei is worryingly far away from the rest of the crew with a creepy black cat/bear thing, Usopp’s hat seems to look like it’s saying ‘KUMA’, that could hint at something and the portrait looks like a Wano building, also Luffy’s bento looks like it might be a horse print, Speed return confirmed?

Our first proper page is with Big Mom, chatting with Perospero and Marco. Sounds like BM still plans on usurping Kaido, since she’s asking for her crew’s trust in her allying with Kaido and still wanting to be Pirate King

Marco seems to have misread the situation by context too, looking like a badass mind you, he should be much more specific on who Perospero deems as a ‘demon’

I will remind everyone that the Big Ass Sword continues to be in frame like it’s just begging to be referenced at some point

There seems to be some respect between BM and Marco, even though he’s technically her enemy in this raid. Seems that the WB Remnants are simply carrying out their own will. BM got the scary face though

Carrot returns to the manga too running off on her own mission, she has her eyes set on avenging Pedro, which likely means she’s going for Perospero with Wanda. My guess is that it’ll evolve from that at some point, partly because I don’t think Carrot can beat Peros and BM and I hope she has a bigger role in the raid, fighting with a Straw Hat too because I am still Team Carrot4Nakama

We get our ONLY panel of Luffy this chapter too, he’s had a clear-ish path but seems to be setting off for the tower climb on his own. Meaning with Drake and Zoro’s Excellent Adventure, Nami and Usopp’s Jurassic Escape and Numbers with Franky we still need to see what Sanji, Chopper, Jimbei, Brook and Robin will be up to. As well as what Team Law and Team Kid are doing. And where the hell Caribou is in all this...

Looks like the ladies Sanji was searching for were in the theatre with Black Maria, who’s just chilling while her ranks are being pummeled XD I can dig that energy at least, but it does look she’s due to cross with Yamato, Momo and Shinobu

Maria’s next song about ‘enchantment’ segues back into the Kaido/Scabbards fight, with Kaido using some kind of Thunder Roar, I dunno the logic of that but I’d guess dragon stuffs

But there are some solid hits coming in, I don’t know what Kawamatsu’s one is because it seemed like it was meant to decapitate but didn’t, Inu’s leg stab was pretty hardcore though and also Kiku/Izo teamwork is welcome

The worry though is that despite this damage, Kaido is still getting up. He’s acknowledging damage but it also doesn’t seem to be enough

Raizo though, sealing the Blast Breath into a scroll to clap back at Kaido? That’s some good shit. I guess this dragon isn’t fireproof

Look at flashback Oden though, he was so excited to teach his style to his retainers

The synchronized Water Stance though as they announced Oden Nitoryu, that is the panel of the chapter for sure. It also seems that the style has something special with the Ryou that is used in it, perhaps they incorporated that into their own styles and that’s what’s hurting Kaido? 

And Inu, Ashura, Denjiro and Kin’emon all do the same attack that Scarred Kaido before, in the same spot! Poetic Finish

So yeah definitely an exciting chapter, albeit a short one, very little Luffy action but the Kaido fight is showing off the Scabbards’ skills, we look to be getting some more fight setups with Yamato vs Maria and Carrot (and maybe Marco and Wanda) vs Perospero (and maybe BM) and it is worth reminding that this was not the intended chapter for the SJ cover and/or Color Spread. The gif I used does still express my thoughts, this is exciting stuff but in the long term it’s nervy. Inu and Neko have a time limit to Su Long remember, one hit threw Kawamatsu through a mountain. Kaido’s hurt but doesn’t look close to being beaten so the clock is ticking. I feel like a Scabbard death is coming and I don’t like that feeling! I continue my worry for Carrot too, I hope Oda has something up his sleeve because why pair up Peros and Marco at this point if it doesn’t influence Luffy and co in some positive manner? Maybe BM will actually hear out Carrot’s ventures and learn some things her family neglected to tell because of her hunger pangs? I dunno I worry for the Kingsbird and just really want her in the crew as the Crow’s Nest XD I’m sure we’ll get back to Luffy and co next chapter but the wait still kills, can’t Oda just sneak in a double chapter? we’ve got 8 chapters to go till 1000 so that’s still 7 chapters of building to the Big One. Hopefully there’s no break after this but we’ll see

Kozuki Oden

Coming from a family of stonemasons 💎 in Wan Country, Kozuki Oden was the Daimyō of the Kuri region. On the family level, he is the son of Kozuki Sukiyaki , the former Shogun of Wan Country who disowned him at the age of 18. Married to Amatsuki Toki, he is the father of two children, namely Kozuki Momonosuke and his little sister Kozuki Hiyori. Kozuki Oden  was the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards, a group of Samurai 🤺 serving the Kozuki family. He was also the commander of the second fleet of Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard and was part of the crew of the Lord of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger.  

Oden's appearance

Oden had long black hair and wore an imperial-style beard. He always had a thick mustache except when he was a member of the Pirate Roger Pirates. A large hat in the original style was enthroned on the top of his head as well as a kimono. 🥋 Rather tall, he appeared to exceed in height the vast majority of the pirates of Gol D. Roger's crew.

Oden personality

Being very daring, but also contemptuous and selfish, Oden committed many horrific and violent acts when he was still a teenager. In particular, he set fire to the establishment of the yakuza in revenge for the fact that he was banned from it. Also being a pervert, he kidnapped women to form a harem 👩🏿‍🤝‍👩🏼 in the mountains. Little worried about the consequences of his actions, he took part in a large number of brutal fights, such as against the yakuza or against the relatives of the women he kidnapped. Note that these women, being charmed by his attitude, finally decided to stay with him.
