i know you’ve said you don’t really read calzona fics, but what about anything by herewegonow? i love their fics and i’m also a fan of oddcoupler and handsthatheal. some of the older fics are the best imo. roughian, mysteriousswaggerofscrubs, and the queenmermaid are also good. and then you and pearlcages obviously.

of the greys stuff i’ve read, most of it is older stuff tbh. generally when i’m watching a show or whatever i’ll just go to the ship and start at the oldest fics or just read some of the bigger ones. but yeah, once i start writing, i essentially purposefully stop reading fics bc i don’t want to muddle my own pov or accidentally, subconsciously take from another author. i think most of those authors sound familiar?

character breakdown ask: X6-88

how i feel about this character: hhhhhhhhh x6 was not. written. like not even that he was written badly, (which he WAS) he just straight up. doesn’t have a story arc. he’s The Institute Companion and that’s the end of it. which it goes without saying that having an emotionless brutal killing machine- who is explicitly a slave- who is also a black man is Bad Optics, Todd, but people of color in the fallout fandom have explained that before & far better than i could attempt to, so i won’t get into that aspect of it. the man’s is just not a character, full stop

all the people i ship romantically with this character: ironically, in a hypothetical x6-deradicalization scenario, i think he and danse would make really good partners. they’re both blunt and stick hard to their principles, and would have some very unique shared experiences to relate to each other with

my non-romantic OTP with this character: fanworks with deacon and x6 having an oddcouple sitcom dynamic scratches a particular itch in my brain, especially if x6 actually had a personality and is in on the joke

my unpopular opinion on this character: uhhh i don’t know what peoples popular opinions on him are so i’m gonna pass this one up

one thing i wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: obviously the aforementioned x6 deradicalization scenario would be ideal, but i don’t think i’m really the one who should be speculating on how that sort of thing would go down. at the very least he should have had some sort of emotional arc throughout the game, but what that would entail that’s actually feasible for the devs to put in while he’s still so faction dependent i have no idea. for x6 to continue to exist and be an available companion, he has to align with the institutes ideals. for x6 to align with the institutes ideals, he has to be an emotionless machine with no real opinions. it’s a lose lose

i feel like you're gonna be a novel writer soon, kinda the way oddcoupler transitioned. because of that i'm wondering if you will go public with your identity and retain your calzona fan base when you do move into the commercial world, or do you think you'll do the opposite?

okay a) what’s oddcoupler’s author name oh my god?? i’d heard that the author of little earthquakes branched out & i’ve been planning to read one of hers soon, but i definitely need to check out oddcoupler’s novels too

b) at this point i have absolutely no intention of publicly acknowledging my fics or associating them with my commercial works when the time comes, but you never know! it very heavily depends on whether or not my commercial works will include erotica, and if they do, what my plan is at that point to balance that and my career— a career where i intend to. yk. teach children. it’s all very complicated and nebulous right now, and i want to leave my options option, which means not doing anything that forces me to publicly acknowledge my fics if/when i decide to publish commercially

(which i obviously resent. the idea that teachers have to be, like, inoculated against human sexuality in order to be good teachers is archaic but it IS the reality of the field)

as for when i do decide to publish— i’m still doing a lot of growing as a writer! i love writing, but actually writing a novel seems far-off and hypothetical right now. i want to get to a point where i don’t struggle to finish long-term fics before i try to tackle a novel, and where my long-form pacing isn’t quite so terrible
