My Ships in One Piece (Mostly Talking About Vivi's Potential Mate Because Nobody Talking About it)
Okay so here's some (mostly strawhats) of my favorite ships in One Piece and i will share my thoughts regarding ships that i found hilarious or interesting. For those of you who ask whether number 1..2…3.. is a ranking..(??) No, I just sorted the strawhats members first.
Luffy x Vivi
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luffy and Vivi is perfect. They both can reaches mentally to one another and even punch like a bros in other to woke the other one. Vivi deeply trust Luffy and Luffy always think highly of her but he can be worried sometimes because he care deeply for her. I say they're perfect because Vivi can mentally reaches Luffy, and consider Luffy sometimes hard to be approach with mentally method, this is high praise for her. Luffy and Vivi shares a lot of similarities like
Both are :
Honest leader
Fearless leader
Loyal to their friends and family
Love Adventure
Have The Will of "D" in their names
Lost their family members to World Government
Targeted by Imu
Tumblr media
I found out their compatibilities somewhat reminds me of these two MBTIs > Luffy as ESFP known for their lively and outgoing personalities while Vivi is ENFJ, the ones who make sure everyone feels included and cared for. The ESFP and ENFJ will likely care for each other quite deeply. And while im not really keen with zodiac, i really love how sometimes author use this as a hint or base of something in the story, like the magic in Black Clover characters are determined by their zodiac signs. I checked out Vivi is an Aquarius and Luffy is an Taurus. I found out Aquarius and Taurus in love can make for an interesting pairing, and it seems Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet that governs innovation, technology, and surprising events.. Yes Uranus.. One of the ancient weapons.
I just love how Luffy is sad that Vivi choose not to join strawhat pirate and he respected her wish. Since they're both closer in age, i think it's cute to assumed maybe there's a time Oda thought that it would be cute to use Vivi as Luffy's first crush (but Luffy himself doesn't even recognize it) before Oda make Luffy aseksual. Even he is eager to save Vivi that time when he hear she is missing. I say this because there's just noway Luffy punch Vivi so normally if he's not irritated by her. Sometimes crushes really makes we more irritated than usual. And while yes he punches other women too, he's not someone who will punch woman that he consider HIS FRIEND.. but in that scene..we can see Luffy wanted Vivi to REALLY TRUST HIM and the other crews BECAUSE THEY'RE FRIENDS And thats why his punch to Vivi is more special .. Luffy wanted Vivi to acknowledge HIM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what i find interesting is Igaram's dream when Vivi said she is going to be a pirate queen 😂, reminds me that she is a D. too .. So their pairing can work out like Gol D. Roger and Portgas D. Rouge. Also, according to Volume 76 SBS, Vivi's image number is 5.5 and Luffy is Birthday is in May 5. Their blood type also the same.. type F.
2.Nami x Sanji
Tumblr media
Nami and Sanji is actually my VERY FIRST SHIP. If Luffy and Vivi have respect then i say Nami and Sanji have natural chemistry that of a couple. While there's a lot of fans that favors Nami x Luffy, i just see NamixLuffy's chemistry is like a Sister to her lil bro which she REALLY TRUSTED. Luffy and Nami's like two of kindred spirits. I just love how Sanji calls Nami using -san instead of -chan like other girls. Sanji respect Nami so much and treat her on the top of women. I just thought there's a lot of potential in their dynamic because their dynamic getting more interesting over time.
3.Nami x Zoro
Tumblr media
I always have this thought that MAYBE Zoro prefer girls who is sharp and know what they want. I just saw a lot of Nami Zoro scenes that make me think " They're so funny together" because they have mutual respect for each other's strengths while often buttheads. Sometimes they can be seen talking and discussing about trivial matters.
4.Zoro x Tashigi
Tumblr media
Yes Zoro and Tashigi… and why not ? My only comment is that their dynamic is interesting and i would love to see more of Zoro's reluctant reaction to Tashigi 😂😭.
5.Zoro x Vivi
Tumblr media
Zoro and Vivi.. Yes this one is interesting. Zoro ALWAYS respected Vivi. He knows Vivi's characteristics and he knows she is a smart and independent woman. While there's not a lot to say about this ship, i just like how Zoro always have this concerning kind of face when he see Vivi doing something wholeheartily. And not to forget "MR. BUSHIDO" , a nickname Vivi choose for Zoro. Aint that cute ? I love their friendship too .. Like i said before, maybe zoro prefer girls who is sharp and know what they want. I just think Zoro always see Vivi as that kind of girl.. and i think Zoro's respecting people who puts others first like Luffy.. his respect for Vivi is just the same because Vivi and Luffy are that kind of people who will protect others and not afraid to do that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6.Usop x Kaya
Tumblr media
I will just say THEY ARE CANON and you know it 😭.The way Kaya believe in Usop ? Its just so wholesome And i LOVE IT.
7.Robin x Law
Tumblr media
THIS! ACTUALLY ONE OF MY BIG THREE IF I RANK IT. 😭😭 Great minds think alike right ??? Yes! And that is Robin and Law! I don't know what should i say about them … They're just HIT IT OFF! 😭A VERY MATURE AND TRUSTING RELATIONSHIP .. And that is big! Considering both of them growing up struggled to trust people. Zoro x Robin is nice.. But not as nice as this . A lot of people said Law will die before the "dawn" comes.. But.. Yeah.. 😭i just can't ignore this feeling to ship them.
8.Vivi x Lucci
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LEMME JUST SAY THIS STRAIGHT! THIS IS THE MOST HILARIOUS SHIP THAT I MYSELF CANT EVEN BELIEVE I SHIPPED THIS 😭. She already roasted Lucci WAY back there when she was Miss Wednesday riding Karoo.
Tumblr media
We know that Nefertari is the name of an Egyptians Queen. Whats more interesting is that Egyptians believed cats were magical creatures, capable of bringing good luck to the people who housed them, Egyptians saw cats as mutually beneficial companions. Who have The Cat as their Signature Devil Fruit transformation ? LUCCI! The ancient Egyptians believed the cat was a representation of Bast, Bast also represented fertility, and also protection. Who also said their job is to protect Vivi? LUCCI also 😭.
Tumblr media
I just can't help find this pairing hilarious… sassy vivi vs stoic lucci? Yes thats it! 😭 Whats more hilarious? HIS FACE RESEMBLE KING COBRA, VIVI's father. If theyre related, i would say like father like son.
And this just keep getting hilarious…
Tumblr media
There's this manga cover when Lucci feeding the pigeons and one of them wearing necklace which have letter "V" as if "Vivi" .In chapter 753, SBS revealed Vivi's representative animal is PIGEON 😭 well yeah she is a pacifist thats what to be expected .. But… who have piggeon as their friend? My Man Lucci. And not to mention Vivi's representative colour is white… 😭.
Tumblr media
Vivi is associated with marriage too .. If you guys know, there's this manga cover when Vivi's scrubbing and the flag says "Bride Training". The curious thing is… THE CATS is the ones who helped her 😤! And the name of the one who request it! "Hattori" SUS MUCH..
Tumblr media
Im starting to believe Oda is setting up Vivi to marry someone at the end of One Piece.
Not to forget her tank top in the color spread says TIGER 😭 yes.. big cat like leopard. Maybe Tiger in here is associating with Nefertari Lily so it can be "Tiger Lily". Tiger Lily flowers were often used in rituals as an offering to invoke healing, protection, and good fortune. Furthermore, Tiger Lily flowers were also associated with the goddesses of love and fertility. It was thought that the flowers could help individuals connect with their ancestors and receive guidance from the spiritual realm. In the famous play, Peter Pan, the character Tiger Lily was named after this flower, and it symbolized her beauty and bravery.
Tumblr media
In Chinese folklore, the Tiger Lily flower was believed to represent the love between a man and woman, and it was often planted in wedding gardens. Whats wrong with Vivi and wedding? 😂…. Dreaming of a Tiger Lily flower can be a powerful symbol of transformation, growth, and rebirth. It may indicate that a person is going through a period of personal growth or is about to embark on a new chapter in life (AND YES SHE IS GOING TO HAVE HER OWN ADVENTURE) Alternatively, it may be a sign of good luck and prosperity.
In Native American folklore, the Tiger Lily was associated with the sun and was believed to bring warmth and light to the world.Maybe if Vivi's the true Uranus (like i said before in LuffyxVivi that her zodiac is associated with Uranus), then this sentence is make sense, since a lot of people saying Uranus is the sun.
Tumblr media
A tweet by @chanchancilchan explaining that maybe Oda is inspired by Peterpan to move Vivi as character and associated her with Tigerlily from peterpan. Both Vivi and Tigerlily refuses any suitors even though they're old enough to be married, and Tigerlily is kidnapped by Captain Hook which suspiciously resembles Sir Crocodile. WHAT SURPRISE ME IS not these thing but A CHARACTER NAMED JOHN DARLING.
Tumblr media
From what i know, John Darling is in love with Tigerlily. In the anime Peter pan no bouken, there was a whole episode dedicated to John and Lily's first date, with John trying to be a gentleman to her only to either misfortune to happen or to have Lily utterly tsuntsun at him 😭 i dunno but this reminds me so much of Vivi and Lucci (yes im delulu). What i am trying to say is… Look at this John boy, look at that hat! and his white clothes…. But .. This tiger-vivi story feat lucci should be stopped here.. Lemme go introduce my next fav ship.
9.Vivi x Sabo
Tumblr media
If you read my babbling about Tigerlily-Vivi feat Lucci. I think you should know that this is the continuation 😭. The thing is… John Darling reminds me SO MUCH of young Sabo. What intrigues me the most is that John is a middle child and if we see Ace, Sabo and Luffy together.. It seems Sabo is younger than Ace since his birthday is in March, so he is the middle one. John is said to be very mature but loves his time being very adventurous and playful, Sabo much ? Speaking of his appearance .. In some Disney storybooks, John's nightshirt is blue instead of white .. Yes… He wears glasses(Goggles for Sabo) , stovepipe hat. Umbrella (Pipe for Sabo) and blue clothes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also.. Remember when Sabo said he must marry into a royal family?
Tumblr media
I can't wait to see Sabo meet Vivi, because Vivi has met his other two brothers, she has even had a deep talk about Luffy with Ace and has collided with Luffy.
10.Sabo x Koala
Tumblr media
Next is Sabo and Koala, actually i don't have anything to say about them.. They're partner and their synergy is good. So well whats more to say ? 😂
11.Smoker x Hina
Tumblr media
And last one is Smoker and Hina?? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY ? 😭 THEY'RE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHERS AND THAT'S FINAL. I MEGAYACHT EM!
HAHA... AND THAT'S IT MY BABBLING about My Fav Ships in One Piece ... Mostly i babbling about Vivi but that's exactly my point since not a lot of people bringing that up. Actually i'm fine If these characters end up not having a romantic relationship with each others. But that's the point of shipping, isn't it? to have fun, and I already feel very happy with these ships, especially LuffyxVivi, RobinxLaw and VivixLucci (OMG FORGIVE ME ABOUT THIS ONE).

just finished watching opla and I enjoyed it tremendously! I've heard of one piece but never watched or read it, so I went in blind with opla. and it made me a fan! I absolutely love the strawhat crew! luffy is so precious and best boy, zoro got my heart, nami is one hell of girl, usopp grows on you, and sanji just cracked me up! and the bond between luffy and zoro in opla is just *chef's kiss* (I kinda lowkey ship them...). the opla makes me want to dive in the anime next but the number of eps scares me LOL!
Hello there~
This is amazing! ^-^ Easily one of the best things that's coming out of this live action adaptation is that it makes new people become fans of One Piece and even give the anime or manga a try. As a longtime One Piece fan, it just makes me happy to know our fandom is growing. One Piece looks f-cking ridiculous at first sight, I get it, but it actually has so much to say. Its longevity is absolutely earned.
You know, you're talking to someone who ships Zoro and Luffy quite hard xD I'm not exaggerating when I say they have the healthiest, possibly strongest and most meaningful bond that any two characters have in the story. And we get to see so much of it. Their understanding and devotion is just on another level. In fact, there are things that the live action left out which make certain events in the future more meaningful/emotional. Though I'm curious how they're gonna adjust the story to keep a similar effect, so to say...
To be honest, I would recommend the manga rather than the anime anyway. The anime contains a lot of filler material which can range from elongating scenes to entire arcs that aren't canon. You might want to see certain scenes from the manga in anime form but you can just go ahead and do that after you've read it. There are more than 1000 episodes and also more than 1000 chapters but trust me, it doesn't take 20 minutes to read one chapter so you'll be able to catch up with the manga much sooner than with the anime. The number may seem daunting but it really isn't when you're reading it. Plus, seeing Oda-sensei's art improve over the decades is a joy. You can read all available chapters on the official shueisha site here. (Or you can download the mangaplus by shueisha app.) You can only read each chapter once for free, though, so do keep that in mind. If you do decide to read it, I would love to know if your opinion on any of the strawhats will possibly change and what you think of ZoLu's bond in the manga~

nico robin!!
How I feel about this character: love love love her. Smart, strong, complex, beautiful, funny (her charmingly weird and macabre comments always delight me). Plus I feel like she's... such an important character in the sense that hers is a story of spending her whole life lonely, hunted, depressed, and suicidal, but in the end she still finds her people who would fight for her, and she learns to trust them and ask for help and appreciate life and expect good things from it. I believe that for a great number of fans it meant a lot to see this happen.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Franky/Robin is my favourite ship involving her and one of my favourite One Piece ships in general, but I also love the idea of Franky/Robin/Brook or Franky/Robin/Jinbei or Franky/Robin/Brook/Jinbei - it's just that I need Frobin to be there as the basis to build the rest of the polycule on because these two just have to be together. My girlfriend and I saw you across the ship's deck and we really dig your vibe, etc. And it's not a question of "she has two hands" because she can have as many hands as she likes :)
My non-romantic OTP for this character: I looove the way she and Luffy just Vibe with each other, and I really like her friendship with Nami too
My unpopular opinion about this character: she's not the mom of the group. "But Oda said-" yeah I don't care, she's too young for that. She's the cool older sister that everyone adores
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: uhhh how do I make it less spoilery for you. I used to think how lovely it would've been if she got to meet that one character again, and recently it turned out that this is actually a possibility, because that character is still alive, and it's actually highly likely that they would meet again? So I am really looking forward to it. Oh, and I wish desperately for her pre-timeskip design to be back, because it was so much cooler and had so much more individuality, but that's clearly not going to happen

[And with that single line, Kuina had more characterization than every other woman in her extended family combine.]
2. Let Me Guess, It Was Very Tragic & Character Defining
(aka Every-Mom Story)
Now, I know a lot of people are going to say, "To be fair, Mina/Muse, it makes SENSE that Zoro's parents were dead! Otherwise they would have to let their son walk around challenging dojos whenever he wanted, and no sane person let a child with Zoro's sense of direction just go town to town on his own like that! Plus, if you actually think about Zoro's whole -"
First off, love the engagement Fictional Tumblr Surfer. I also adore discussing media and hearing different perspectives but before you go any further: trust me, I have thought about Zoro. I have had all the thoughts about Zoro.
Also, this idea that Zoro's parents HAD to be dead seems to be based entirely on, "or else he wouldn't be wandering the countryside looking for dojos". The problem with that line of logic is, well, it doesn't make sense. Look what Luffy was getting up to, he'd got family. Hell, Franky had both his parents and you know what they did? Tossed him into the sea. Parents being alive is not a guarantee of anything. It says she died of an illness but for all we know, she passed away when Zoro was 15. All those Kuina scenes? His mom was just kicking back at the house, doing her own thing. "Oh, yeah, no worries, go hang in out with your little sword clubs. Just remember: what's the one rule when we go out?"
*sigh* "I'm allowed to take shortcuts or whatever pass I please as long as it doesn't involve getting on a boat." *Grumble* "I'm six years old, I know my shortcut through the mountains already! Geeze mom!"
"Yeah, well you just do what your old lady says, since she does feed you and everything. Take all the mountain shortcuts you want, kiddo. No boats."
"No boats."
"See ya in a few weeks honey. REMEMBER, BEATING BAD GUYS UP FOR FOOD DOESN'T COUNT."
"I know! You always say that! I know how bounties work!"
"Hey, I'm just trying to make sure you're staying healthy, Kiddo. And if they're criminals, the Marines can't arrest you for beating them up. Call the home den den mushi if you need anything. Love you!"
"Bye!"
(I understand exactly where Oda was going with giving his mom three traits: she was raised by criminals/thieves/bad guys, married a samurai and died from illness. I see the storyline being set. But, listen, I dare anyone to step and tell me there is absolutely no part of them - not even the smallest silver - that wouldn't rejoice at seeing THIS Zoro's relationship with his still living mom, rather than the inevitable build up to Corazon/Bellamere/Sora/Otohime/Toki & Oden/Yusie Part Du....Di-Diez)
Which brings me around to my point: why kill Zoro's mom!? What is the point other than ensuring you don't have to do the work of having to come up with a whole other character? How does the story benefit from murdering everyone's parents!? Is this a theme of the work or just a personal kink!?
Sorry, let me pull that back.
The thing about Zoro's parents is: no one cares. Don't get me, fans care very much about Zoro. Their curios what was going on, but we've been with this character for years at this point, he's never once brought them up. There aren't even shades of it.
Viewed through a certain lens, the fact they're both dead is somehow WORSE. Because you realize the number of situations the Strawhats have come into where a key component is Illness Related, Evil Pirates Murdering Folks, Parents Suffering/Dying For Their Children, and People Who Lost Parents Looking For Revenge and sometimes nearly all of those things at once! And yet Zoro has never once been emotional triggered by these situations the way Nami is with children in trouble or Sanji is with mistreated women or Chopper is when he is unable to help someone....
Or Zoro is. With Tashigi.
No one dare try and tell, "Zoro isn't the kind to react to someone just because their situation reminds him of something tragic in his own past" because that is LITERALLY his entire DEAL with Tashigi. She has a shallow, surface appearance that is similar to his best friend who died and so even just seeing her brings that up despite Tashigi being entirely unrelated and also, really only Zoro's approximation of what Kuina might have looked like a decade in the future.
So the idea that Zoro lost both his parents in tragic situations which left him homeless and with no one to take him in and his sole emotional response was apparently shrugging off and going to get his walking shoes, he got some dojos to find doesn't speak particularly well for those family dynamics.
And the thing is, this doesn't inform Zoro's character, it doesn't build or explain anything, it's just what Oda appears to do when he needs characters to have a connection to or a history with something. Fine a parental figure. Have them murdered. And with Zoro he could have done something new and different, because Zoro doesn't NEED this history in order to help establish his motivations or explain his thinking, he doesn't need this to be emotionally invested, it doesn't raise any stakes or change his path. Zoro doesn't need any of that; boy figured that all out himself before he was ten, and the parts he missed, Luffy brought with him! Anything that could be added through knowing more of Zoro's history, all it does is add another layer to something he'd already gone and established himself.
With that in mind, why NOT mix it up? Since we've been watching the crew for years and he hasn't spoken a single about his family, you could as easily pull an Ace situation. This is my family, that I have never mentioned before.
I mean have fun with it. Go wild! "Where was she? Why wasn't she looking after her kid? Who would let a child just go off for weeks like that."
"To be fair, Zoro had beaten all the local kids and was really bored. And she did pack him a few lunches. Hey, he's a kid, if he wants to go running off to find another dojo, let him! He's having fun, what's the big deal?" And obviously when he told her his plan to leave the island to hunt down bounties and eventually face off against a warlord, well he was 15, he was an adult and if that's what he wanted to do.
You could have just made her Silvers Rayleigh but a mom. It would have been amazing.
But, no... No, of COURSE she was ill.
And I'll bet she was an absolutely lovely woman too, so sweet, so caring, someone who worked hard doing housework for others in order to feed her family after her husband was tragically killed fending off pirates from raiding the island. Oh, but lately work has been harder to get because her sickness leaves her just so small and frail. I'll bet she often tried to hide just how bad it was by praising little Zoro whenever he carried the groceries or brought in the water or did some physical chore. Like, "look how strong you are, carrying that bag all by yourself. Are you sure you don't want me to help? Zozozo, I think you're just using it as an excuse to train and show off how big you're growing!" Bet he feels so proud of himself, and aren't they just the cutest little household?
I feel like I know her already. I get the sense Ter would be the kind of mother who would tease that it wasn't right how HE was always protecting HER when SHE was supposed to be the one looking out for HIM. Her fearless little tiger! (I mean, sure, she's physically killing herself working keeping food on his plate and a roof over his head, but there was that on time when she was so sick during that big storm that Zoro did all the chores and she hadn't even asked! And that other night walking back from the market when a wolf had come out at woods and starting to growl at them and she'd been terrified they would have to drop the grocery and run when she'd worked so, so hard to get money to buy enough food for the next few days but Zoro wouldn't let it get their food and eventually the thing ran off like a scared little puppy. Such a brave boy!)
Which is good because he'll need, I'm 90% sure she said, while on her death bed. She'd probably surprised to a single down tear running down his little cheeks because she doesn't remember Zoro crying, not even as a baby, and she'd hate that she would be the reason that her strong boy cried for the first time, and she'd end up telling him all about how she used to cry all the time when he was baby. She was all alone and she knew she didn't have long left and he looked so helpless in arm. She couldn't stop worrying about what could happen to him when she was no longer there to feed and protect and help him.
And Zoro would be upset he has made his mom cry so much and she'd just laugh - Zozozo - it's been years since she cried like that. She doesn't have to anymore, seeing what a strong and brave person Zoro has become over the years, she no longer worries. He is so fearless and determined and she knows he will be okay, she believes in him. And with that last breath she'll make him give her his word, promise her he'd always remember how strong he was, that he would never stop getting strong. That way, no matter what, she can rest knowing he will always.
Is that the goal? A cheap emotional underpunch that probably would make cry but also... kind of undermines a lot of Zoro's character. And also raises a lot of questions about some of the stories internal paradox but also it's just so conveniently, predictably heartbreaking that probably that no one will notice.
We've been here, we've done this!
It's just such a boring answer. It's a safety answer. I can promise you, this was not part of the plan when he first tied Zoro to a pole in a marine courtyard. This is very much after the fact, and that's FINE. There are very, very, VERY few writers creating and sort of weekly/monthly/continuous series media that go in there with a full plan, entirely story laid out in detail and every single one followed through to the letter. That is actually a scientifically accurate way to diagnose someone who has signed a contract with a demon lord. The ability to continue to build your story while maintaining a mostly accurate canon while also half making it up on the fly because, oh, wow you hadn't expected that thing to go that way. Wait, what even was your original plan? I mean it's an amazing skill¹ to be able to put out serialized content keeping the story on track, the lore mostly without contradiction, and most importantly, still having a clear way forward even though it almost definitely not the path you cleared originally. It's not easy to do and I applaud and recognize when they have that skill, I have no problem with the idea that Zoro's parents had not really been solidified as characters until relatively recently.
But seeing as there has been over a decade to think on that one, it's amazing it ended up being... Exactly what you have guessed based on every other set of parents in One Piece. But again, it's a safe answer.
Look, this way no one expects to make an appearance, he doesn't have to maybe possibly change anything he'd already decided.
Ah, they never came because they're dead and we're never going to flash back to then so.... Great. Finished with that, job done. And he didn't even have to think about Zoro's backstory and risk accidentally developing.
But! If he ever needs to shove something into Zoro's backstory with absolutely no foreshadowing, he has now created emergency backups.
He could just... Pull a Vinesmoke Sanji, or close enough. He's given a Wano connection, absolutely no characterization and luckily only introduced plot points that would be incredibly useful when attempting to emotionally manipulate the audience so they fail to notice the giant new "Well, THIS is brand new!" Product, and it has to be accepted as valid because it happened in the past. That means it helped define Zoro!

I think about how much joy it really has. How Luffy just enjoys life being Joyboy and making everyone laugh. And when I see interviews of life action actors where they so goofy and silly, answering weird questions and just having the best time of their's lifes, when I see Iñaki's interview where he says how much fun it was to film the fight scene, I think that's it. This is what we need. Everyone around enjoys what they do. Everyone is having fun.
I look at the cast of actors, and I see how much they in love with each other in the most tender platonic sense, I see how much the writers and directors have put effort and love into the created series. How many Easter eggs were left, how clearly they preserved the atmosphere. I feel this love through the screen. I can see with such warmth that it was all done. And it makes me cry because what could be better? I watch the show and it's so funny. I can't stop thinking of Oda's words: "This is my last chance to show One Piece to the world." And it really worked, which I did not even count on. I thought this series would only be watched by anime fans, but no. My friend, who didn't want to watch One Piece because of the large number of episodes, watched the series, and she loved it so much!!! She was so worried during that scene with Luffy and Shanks in the sea, she adored Buggy and got upset when she finished watching all eight episodes. I read each of her messages, where she worried about the characters, and I understood. This is it. This is the feeling when you fall in love with One Piece once and for all. And then she wants to start watching anime.
One Piece is not very popular in my country, that's why I'm so happy when I see people on the street or in the subway with merch: in T-shirts, with badges - it makes me smile.
I'm so glad that One Piece finally got the popularity and worldwide recognition it deserves, I'm so glad that even more people could feel what we've been feeling for years about One Piece and be a part of it.
When the series was just announced, I was suspicious of this idea because I was afraid that Netflix would just spoil what I love with all my heart. I didn't like the actor playing Sanji. I didn't like how Nami's wig looked in the trailer. But then I watched the series, and oh my god, it's wonderful and nice and gorgeous! I looked at how happy they all were to be a part of it and fulfill their roles, how responsible they were about it. I fell in love with them and fell in love with their love of One Piece.
I can't stop crying and smiling because it's truly a Laugh Tale

if it helps with your apprehension at all, apparently Oda was pretty heavily involved in the live-action adaptation?
https://www.themarysue.com/no-really-eiichiro-oda-was-deeply-involved-in-the-live-action-one-piece/
that isn't a guarantee it will be good, of course, but it is comforting to know they cared a lot about his opinion. that's a step in a good direction(? i have qualms with Oda, personally, but still)
frankly, what i care more about is how apparently the cast became really good friends and care deeply for one another. i think they even have a group chat? and i forget his name, but the actor of Luffy is very sensitive and cries a lot in gratitude about his new friends (he's very sappy and so sentimental 🥺) and even teared up when the group was filmed to watch the trailer for the first time
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8Jpgdb8/
even if i end up hating the movie, i do love this cast. theyre so sweet to one another, i really hope they get to film together more so they have excuses to hang out and enjoy one another's company.. 🥺💗🥺💗🥺
also Koby's actor makes me CACKLE. i cant find the post anymore, it's lost in my Likes i guess, but there was one documenting the cast's instagrams (under some theme, i forget) and as a bonus "this has nothing to do with the theme, but i had to include it anyway" moment, it had Koby's actor posting about a hater having DMed saying he BETTER NOT play Koby as gay to which the actor replied "Well now I'm going to play him even gayer" which 😚🤌 love that
yes, oda's involvement makes me think this will at least be better than netflix bebop. but it's okay if i still end up not liking it! i can suffer an infinite number of mediocre adaptations of one piece, because i love the manga so much. i'll definitely still make fun of them though
hmm i think the cast tends to play up the whole "we're the real life versions of so-and-so" "this is real usopp and real nami hanging out, this is real sanji cooking" etc etc and a lot of fans eat it up and see them as real life straw hats. which is... well, out of everything on the internet blurring reality and fiction this is pretty benign. it's nice to hear the actors became good friends in real life, but i don't have an opinion either way/have little interest in their personal lives. happy for them and the fans, i guess!
that's shocking considering the canonically homosexual thoughts koby has had for luffy. i hope they on screen kiss

One Piece - Volume 35
Haha!! WOWIE!!! YIPPEE!!! I’VE RETURNED TO POSTING WITHOUT MAKING ANY NOTABLE MISTAKES!!!
I love One Piece! I love pirates! I love long-running shonen manga! And I also love italicizing random words for no reason! Do not pay very close attention to which words I italicize in what order! IT’S NOT INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!!!
Chapter 328 - The Pirate Abduction Incident
Admittedly, even though February and March were, for certain reasons, not good months for me to have this additional task on my plate and actually expect to get it done consistently, the long absence has also done a number on me. What was happening in One Piece again? There were like fifteen new characters or something? I think I got spoiled at some point in February or March that one of them was evil... who were any of the fifteen of them again??? I don’t even remember when it was that I got spoiled.
Eh, I’m sure it’ll be fine. I’ll just jump into it! How much could I possibly have forgotten?
Tumblr media
What? WHAT’S bad? What’s Sal talking about? Uh, hasn’t Oda ever heard of providing context clues??? -_-
Anyway, Tony Tony Chopper is standing near Sal, but Nico Robin isn’t. No one is a fan of that turn of events.
Tumblr media
Oh right, I forgot, Sonic’s friend Tammy was in this arc being the mirror version of Sal. I hate Sonic’s friend Tammy! I hope he’s the person who I got spoiled about being evil.
Sonic’s friend Tammy says the Merry Go doesn’t have a spinal cord anymore. The... uh... what was I calling the guy from Ace Attorney: Justice For All? I guess I can call him Matt Engarde. Matt Engarde adds that carpenters don’t have access to cloning technology, so a ship without a spinal cord is dead with no cheap workarounds possible. It sucks for Lufpy... but I’d trust any assertion that came from Matt Engarde!
Lufpy doesn’t want to accept it. He doesn’t want to have to change this manga’s branding and merchandise. This, uh, this guy named... *checks notes WITHOUT GOLFING since I DON’T EVEN NEED TO GO GOLFING* Lorenz Hellman Gloucester Slightly To The Left... is his name. That guy tells Lufpy that makes Lufpy a bad person. Well, that’s true enough I suppose, if you take into account that capitalism systemically destroys innocent people.
Also there’s a guy who looks like a fed who hates the feds, and a fed who looks like an outlaw.
Tumblr media
nami aren’t you an accomplished pickpocket yourself
Anyway, Nami decides to go to Franky’s House. I think that’s where the circus freaks live?
Unfortunately, Usopp is yet again dead while Nami is nearby. He’s lying on his back...
Chapter 329 - My Name Is Franky
Actually, I take back what I said about Lufpy being a bad person. The high ethical cost of survival increases the minimum severity of bad actions necessary to overcome humanity’s innate goodness.
That aside, chapter 329 begins with a flashback to what happened right after chapter 328. From that, I can intuit that a timeskip happened right after chapter 328!
Anyway, now that the flashback is over, it’s time for Zoro to talk to Sal and Sal’s friend Tony about what’s going on.
Tumblr media
no, humans do that too
Well, maybe ships are still unique in that they do that in water. Humans tend to have a nice time in water, or drown, or both. Hey, that sentence I just said is kinda like the thesis statement of One Piece!
Anyway, Franky’s gimmick is that he has terrible financial sense. “Finally,” he says, “I have the exact amount of money I need, instead of slightly less. Since I don’t have slightly less, I won’t run into the problem where I spend it instead of having it when I need it. As a reward for giving me the exact amount of money I need, here’s money.”
Also, Usopp is there, because he changed his mind about being dead. Also, Franky is a star man, but like, also a robot? Hey, that’s just like Earthbound! Wait, but Earthbound’s gameplay isn’t very fun since there’s a lot of grinding, so why is Usopp there at Earthbound? I thought better of you, Usopp.
Tumblr media
You’re one to talk, no-nose boy.
I refuse to acknowledge that triangle on Franky’s face as a nose. It is little more than a defect. Anyway, it looks like he’s wearing a mask, which would be on-brand for this arc since it’s an arc about people who wear masks, so he probably has no nose underneath.
Tumblr media
See, I told you all Tony Tony Chopper was a yandere! Now he’s killing people so he can show off their blood. I knew something like this would happen.
Zoro, Tony Tony Chopper, and Sal all stand there and watch as Lufpy hilariously dies in water. And guess whose duty it is to save Lufpy from drowning? That’s right. SAL’S, AS ALWAYS.
Next, it’s time for the Combatant Trio to beat up Franky’s House. Already, I guess. Also, they’re mad at the house instead of the Starman, I guess. Also, Tony Tony Chopper grew huge muscles to blend in seamlessly among them, I guess.
Chapter 330 - It's Decided
Tumblr media
WHAT??? TWO GUNS??? WHEN DID NAMI GET TWO GUNS? I THOUGHT HER THING WAS THE BIG STICK OF UNIMPRESSIVE MAGIC, WHEN DID SHE GET TWO GUNS
One of the Titans from Attack on Titan dies. I’m gonna be honest: That Titan had the type of swag I want, just... grotesquely warped, in true Attack on Titan fashion. I think I’m going to make that One Piece character my new Titansona. I will not show a picture of him.
The Combatant Trio and their sidekick continue to do various cool moves, so people start throwing garbage at them. The garbage does not prevent them from killing the house they hate so much.
Lufpy decides to stop being a capitalist, because on second thought he doesn’t even care that much about merchandise or branding.
Chapter 331 - The Big Argument
We open on the fed who looks like an outlaw. He’s not having a good day :(
Also, Lorenz Hellman Gloucester Slightly To The Left has a picture of Nico Robin as a little baby with lots of numbers on it. I miss Nico Robin. Where’d she run off to
Usopp is very much not a fan of Lufpy’s decision not to be a capitalist. I bet Usopp felt SO GOOD about his backstory being essential to the manga’s entire brand, huh? I bet it made him SO HAPPY. Well now he’s super upset instead, so the joke’s on him.
Tumblr media
Oh right, I forgot how good Sal is at calling people out on their bullshit when it’s not his turn to be an idiot. It’s a good thing I didn’t forget anything else about Sal!
Lufpy decides to beat up a recovering hospital patient. Wait, and USOPP is involved in this situation, too?! I thought better of you, Usopp.
Sal tries to put a stop to this, but the events that will result in the End of Usopp have already been set in motion. Usopp decides a good way to accelerate this process is by challenging Lufpy to a duel.
Chapter 332 - Luffy vs. Usopp
Tumblr media
awww sad puppy :(
Usopp unleashes his most powerful attacks against Lufpy, but all it does is make a puppy sad. Zoro doesn’t want puppies to be sad, but he is powerless in the face of Usopp. There’s nothing to be done.
Tumblr media
Damn this is badass. Usopp is way better at beating up Lufpy than Zoro is. Zoro was so bad at it, he accidentally beat someone else up instead. Although that’s in-character because Zoro is stupid <3.
Also, prior to those panels, Lufpy told Usopp to stop being a comic relief character. That was rich, considering who it came from. Anyway Usopp blows him up
Chapter 333 - Captain
Wow! 333! I won’t reach a chapter number this exciting again until 4444.
Lufpy finally ekes out the slightest advantage after spending the entire fight not doing that, but even that was exactly as Usopp planned. Lufpy is largely incapable of failure though, so Usopp‘s plans don’t matter much. Then Lufpy says “Well, obviously. Anyways I forfeit. You suck”
Sal attempts to prevent Tony Tony Chopper from doing doctor stuff to Usopp, saying that would be just as shameful as it would have been for Usopp to back down or something like that, but Tony Tony Chopper leaves some doctor stuff with Usopp anyways.
Chapter 334 - Big Trouble in the Secret Room
It’s the Bean Bonus Room...! Hmm. Don’t ask me what that’s a reference to, because I wouldn’t be able to tell you.
Ooh! Is this arc gonna be a MURDER MYSTERY ARC with Lorenz Hellman Gloucester Slightly To The Left as the victim?! Hmm... Lufpy’s crew would need a detective... better hold off on getting a carpenter for now then. Which means they can just leave. Phew, glad this arc is over with! ...Wait, they don’t have a ship anymore. Well, Usopp can just leave, and everyone else can stop being main characters.
Lufpy and Nami are going to deal with the main plot, Oda forgot to include Nico Robin in this volume, Sal and Tony Tony Chopper are journeying to Oda to remind him about that, and Zoro... uh... Zoro... uh...
Tumblr media
I guess sitting arcs out has historically been a favorite pastime of Zoro’s, so maybe this is no surprise.
OHHH, I forgot this arc had a train! Is the reason this arc has a train because it’s a murder mystery arc?! Franky loves being a train passenger.
Oh, and according to the Obligatory Murder Mystery Medical Professional, yet another mask is relevant in this arc. I hadn’t realized it until I’d written it out earlier in this post, but this arc really is going to be “ABOUT MASKS” in the same way as the Noland Kong arc was “ABOUT GODS”, isn’t it? The Quadruple-H mini-arc, then, would just have been a little bit of narrative housekeeping, like setting up Nico Robin’s whole dealio so that her character arc is primed and ready to intersect with this arc’s themes. Are all the One Piece arcs from here on out going to so heavily deal with themes relating to fundamental aspects of humanity and society? ...I mean I guess you could argue that that’s been a thing this whole time, but not nearly this deftly until recently. Bro... One Piece is good... and on an upward quality trajectory...
Sorry, I’ll stop rambling and get back to actually reading and commenting on One Piece like I’m supposed to be.
Franky took his mask off.
Chapter 335 - Warning
Well, his mask is off, but his face is imperceptible by the audience, and he’s mad. Meanwhile, the Scary Heart Woman has Scary Plans. This is due to the nature of some strange calamity that the townsfolk have gotten so used to that one of them is like “You DON’T KNOW?” when Sal asks.
OH... FRANKY IS... UM... FRANKY IS... UM...
Ugh, do I actually need to find the words to describe this?
Wait, I literally don’t. Check this out:
Tumblr media
This is not what I expected from the leader of a gang of circus freaks who repeatedly get killed. The mask was somehow LESS bombastic than his face. I barely even get how that’s possible.
Oh, I was thinking to myself that Franky and Nico Robin BOTH seem too obvious to be the culprit if this were a true murder mystery, assuming we put aside the fact that Nico Robin has been a protagonist lately. I guess I was right to be thinking that, because the victim just implicated one and a half of the two of them.
I’m sure I would be blown away by this turn of events if I didn’t know how murder mysteries worked and was therefore very easily impressed, but neither of those things are true, so I’m just going to move on to the next chapter now.
Chapter 336 - Luffy vs. Franky
Franky... or, I guess now that his mask is off, I know him well enough that it’s not rude of me to just call him Ky, still has a rather inorganic nose after removing his mask. My assertion that he was a no-nose boy seems to hold water!
Also, he seems to be charging up a super attack, but Lufpy has not taken that as his cue to run. That’s Lufpy for you!
Ky’s super attack is actually fire elemental. Not only is Lufpy completely fine, but so is Nami, so I guess it was correct of them not to run. Good thinking on their part then.
Tumblr media
Imagine if Nami was correct and Ky just died here after all the buildup. That would be funny. ...Which makes it entirely plausible. Except Ape already called dibs on fire powers, so probably not. Oda wouldn’t do something that would run the risk of making the audience get bored of fire powers, because then the audience might go away.
Predictably, Ky isn’t actually a fruit guy. He does have something no Devil Fruit holder ever will... detachable hands. I bet Lufpy is now regretting the fact that he didn’t run! Because when people don’t run, they regret it!
Meanwhile, Lorenz Hellman Gloucester Slightly To The Left is implicating the entire crew as conspirators against him. Well, that’s definitely wrong! He should really run those numbers again! He should do it now before it’s too late!
There’s also a cabinet barbarian.
Wait, woah, Ky has like, a gun with a scope? So he’s like DOING THE CYBORG THING doing the cyborg thing, then. Wacky! Almost as wacky as saying “there are only seconds remaining you fools, flee now I’m begging you” to a stinky pigeon! XD
Anyway, the fight between Lufpy and Ky gets interrupted pretty quick, because it’s Lorenz Hellman Gloucester Slightly To The Left’s squad of goons here to make Lufpy say he’s sorry! So sorry, but you had your chance! Is what they’ll make Lufpy say!
It’s good to be reading One Piece again.
It’s fun to be reading One Piece again.

Oh valid! Sleep is good!
Honestly I understand why you say that Marco should be explored more as a character, but I also feel like it's kind of cool that there are so many great characters that go unexplored in One Piece? It honestly really makes the world feel big and lived in that you could have an entire canon that focused around a different protagonist within the same universe and write maybe the same number of chapters if not more? And have it fit seamlessly into what is already written?
It's honestly one of my favorite things about One Piece shipping compared to some of my other fandoms is just how deep the world is, from characters to actual worldbuilding, you can basically always add something on that isn't explored well in canon and now you're making headcanons! Now you're writing fanfic! Now you're drawing art! And it all just happens and it doesn't feel as contradictory as in shows with narrower scopes.
If I want to fan out about Marco or Buggy or Katakuri or any number of other characters that don't touch Luffy's life for very long but still have a super interesting story? There is so much for me to imagine!
Also, exploring Marco more (except if they made him a novel, like Law or Ace) would probably require Oda to explore Marco more in the context of Luffy's story, and what I'm honestly interested in is Marco as his own protagonist. If that makes sense?
Sorry, that was probably a super long way of saying that... whoops.
Law: God I know, but it is also fun to imagine. This is one case where it would make sense for some more canon clarification because he spends so long on board the sunny with everyone, but also it's fine narratively to leave it up to the imagination. But yeah, all those little interactions, platonic or otherwise, are super fun. I love the idea of occasional smoker!Law sharing a cigarette with Sanji while both compartmentalize issues with their own self-worth by refuting the other's negative self-talk. Or Law training with Zoro. Reading with Robin and hating on the government together. Talking about medicine with Chopper...I could go on. Anyway, all that to say if you DO ever find that Law & Brook fic, I'd love to read it. It sounds awesome.
For kidlaw I mostly go off vibes? A lot of my draw to the ship initially was fanart if I'm honest. I don't even know that I have anything bookmarked I usually just go to the tag, sort for the shit that's rated E and then just read for a while 😅
Good argument! I'm the sort that loves to overanalyze literally everything about my fandoms, but I could totally see how so many moments being offscreen could be a draw to some fans!
Yeah! I have so many headcanons for the One Piece world. You could make a fan island that could have literally anything and it would technically be within the rules of canon. That being said, I wish the concepts of how seasonal islands work is explored more. Do bears that live on Summer islands not go into hibernation? Also, Little Garden raises tons of questions on how immunities work in One Piece. If an insect can infect Nami, can't it go the other way? If it went the other way, that we would be more dangerous to Little Garden wildlife than they would be to us (germ wise. They could still kill us in other ways.) There could be an entire civilization from there that was unknowingly wiped out by some pirates. Else does having so many pirates come through there help with herd immunity?
I know a lot of One Piece is just because it is cool. I'm still going to overthink it though.
The plot of the law and brook fic was basically a post-dressrosa conversation that followed the popular fan headcanon that Law was either okay with, or actively planning to die to take down Doffy. Brook talked about losing his crew and the value of life. It always stuck with me.

Hey y'all! One Piece chapter 1058 is out and I'm about to talk about it.
Be warned!
Spoilers ahead!
The new chapter finally reveals the Strawhats new bounties and those in the Cross Guild too, but I'm just gonna focus on the Strawhats!
I just wanted to post my predictions with the actual bounty amounts. I was pretty close with some of them! So the first number will be my prediction and the second one in bold is the actual bounty.
1. Monkey D. Luffy:
$3,000,000,000
$3,000,000,000
--- I actually got the exact bounty Luffy would get and I'm so proud, but that's the only one I got right 😭😭😭
2. Roronoa Zoro:
$1,100,000,000
$1,111,000,000
--- I got really really close with this one! I mean I was only off by a million. It's also his birthday which is cool (November 11th). Periodt 👑
3. Nami:
$185,000,000
$366,000,000
--- I'm so pleasantly surprised by how wrong I was. I aimed low for Nami since she didn't really defeat anyone (unless you count Ulti which 90% of that fight was Big Mom 😭). Other than that, I'm really glad she got a higher bounty this time!
4. Usopp: (There's no yellow 💀)
$310,000,000
$500,000,000
--- Talking about getting a higher bounty without defeating anybody 😭😭😭. My man Usopp got half a billion by doing nothing. My king stays winning lol. On a serious note - maybe he got such a high bounty because everyone thought Big Mom's conqueror's haki was his doing 💀
5. Vinsmoke Sanji: (There's no darker blue 🤦‍♀️)
$1,070,000,000
$1,032,000,000
--- I also got really close with this one! I tried to make both Sanji and Zoro have similar bounties which Oda also did. Everyone wanted Zoro + Sanji to get bounties over 1 billion so fans eating good tonight! It's also his birthday too (March 2nd).
6. Tony Tony Chopper:
$250,000,000
$1,000
--- Chile...I really thought Oda would give him an actual bounty. Chopper sweetie, I'm so sorry 🤧
7. Nico Robin:
$1,000,000,000
$930,000,000
--- I was close here too. I hoped she would get over 1 billion, but I'll take it! Finally my girl gets the recognition she deserves 😇
8. Franky:
$570,000,000
$394,000,000
--- Franky sweetie, I'm so sorry 😭. The disrespect...I aimed too high for him lol. I thought he would get much higher because he took out Sasaki one-on-one, but I guess not 😮‍💨
9. Brook:
$340,000,000
$383,000,000
--- I was close with Brook at least! I was positive he would get around the 300 million mark so I'm not surprised. I am really happy though that he got higher than what I expected 😌
10. Jinbei: (There's no ochre, but this is actually pretty close 😭)
$900,000,000
$1,100,000,000
--- Hell yeah! My man Jinbei getting his flowers too! Over a billion? We love to see it. I'm so glad I was wrong 😭
Well, that's it y'all. What'd you think of the spoilers? What were your predictions? Are you satisfied with the new bounties? Let me know y'all 🙏

Why SaNami Over LuNami
Let me first start by saying I'm not here to offend the contrary. My goal is not to prove why SaNami is better than LuNami but simply show why I think SaNami is a good ship. Also, similar assessment has probably been done before so I might be repeating what other people have said without knowing so just know that. I've read a lot of posts from LuNami supporters and their evidence as to why they think it's a good ship and to be frank, I'm quite surprised because they had a lot of 'evidence' but not really at the same time but that just what I think you don’t need to take it for granted. Once again, this is my personal opinion. I'm not here to do anything negative of any sort, I'm simply just sharing my thoughts. Without further ado let's begin.
1. Nami is Sanji’s number one + More
Yes, wow! Amazing right? I know I know. Okay, if you're the person who is going to disagree with me now and say "But Pudding loves Sanji so they should be together." Then, you either hate Sanji or you like Sanji and you just want him to be with a person that actually loves him. Which I wholeheartedly understand but as a person who likes Sanji very much I think Pudding doesn't deserve Sanji. I'm not gonna explain why as I already did in my previous post so read that if you want to know. Nonetheless, I do want to point at one thing about Pudding that I haven't noticed in my post regarding her. Big Mom said that Pudding will have an awakening that'll allow them to decipher the poneglyphs. I think she was referring to the special ability of the 3-eyed tribe. Big Mom may have been defeated but she is definitely not dead because Zeus didn't disappear and she said it herself that it wasn't enough to kill her. So perhaps we will see Pudding again and if Oda ever tries to add more on her redemption maybe just maybe I could accept her and even be willing to say that she deserves Sanji depending on how significant her redemption is. Viola is another contender that I see, as of now I’d rather have Viola instead of Pudding, because both Sanji and Viola shared mutua romantic interest. However, the problem lies in developing their relationship and the two just weren't given the time to do so. Even if they are both in love, Sanji is gone. Unlike Pudding, the chances of Sanji seeing Viola again is very low because she has no other roles to play except for her role as a princess of Dressrosa. My point being that Sanji will just become more attached to Nami or have more interactions with Nami which may or may not further advance their relationship. Now let's start talking about Sanji. Some LuNami fans disagree with SaNami because of the fact that Sanji loves all the ladies in the world. So he automatically doesn't have the sense of commitment which I think is false. He was committed to the marriage with Pudding and was ready to give up his adventures with his crew and dreams if it meant saving their lives including his father figure Zeff. I mean he was so committed that he didn't have his usual reaction (heart eyes) when seeing Nami enter a whole yonko territory to save him. Sanji's kindness and bias towards women probably won't change but I think Sanji is definitely capable of commitment. You can’t hate Sanji for liking other girls because he isn’t into a relationship with anyone. It's all a gag that I personally find funny but preferred to be lowered down. Oda has undoubtedly made Sanji more perverted than he ever was post time skip and it's hurting his character. I do think after Wano things will become much better for Sanji and I do hope he doesn’t encounter female opponents. I do think Nami is conscious of Sanji's affection towards her so he does take advantage of that sometimes but I really don't mind and Sanji enjoys it so who cares. Nami also cares a lot about Sanji (She wanted to get Sanji back as soon as possible Zou and WCI highlights). Despite saying “I’ll never forgive you” to Sanji in WCI, she was overjoyed when Sanji caught her, preventing her from falling to the ground.
Tumblr media
Part of me thinks she's just playing hard to get or even acting like a tsundere sometimes but I'm probably wrong. I mean who wouldn't fall in love with such a dependable and smart man? The only thing that's ruining Sanji’s chances is his lack of commitment and out of control perverted behaviors which annoys Nami often. Sanji's post time skip has undeniably become worse in regards with his pervertedness towards pretty ladies. But out of all the female characters in One Piece Sanji had most of his interactions with Nami. They had several moments with each other which just forced the belief on me that being them being together in the end. Oda could've simply not have included those moments but he did like the wedding theme exclusively for Nami and Sanji the groom and the bride. I don't know why but their relationship reminds me of Usui and Misaki from Maid-Sama if you know you know😉. If you don't know, I'd recommend watching it. Misaki's confession is how I would imagine Nami confessing to Sanji though the chances of this happening is probably close to zero. The difference is that Usui is an actual giga chad and is only dedicated towards one girl. I think Sanji and Nami just need a scenario where they can better understand and develop their feelings towards one another. Though the chances of this is very low due to it being a battle shounen it's still possible. Since Sanji has been with Nami all this time and has had some sole moments with her I do think that she's more special compared to other girls given that she's the only girl Sanji calls with San suffix and he’s the only guy Nami calls with Kun suffix. Which could just refer to respect but then again at the end of the day I find it cute because it's what a couple would do. Towards the recent chapters it was shown that Sanji actually lost control of himself and even gave Zoro a heads up to kill him if he ever goes berserk.
Tumblr media
Maybe at one point Sanji will be forced into transforming into a monster to save his friends, probably more towards Nami and Robin. His emotions of course are what will cause this transformation. He'll unleash the devil that is hiding inside of him to save the person that he cares for the most, Nami (biased). I could really see this happening to Sanji. Sanji transforming into this monster will finally make Nami realize that she isn't just any girl for Sanji and she might be aware of this already but who knows. Nonetheless, perhaps Sanji could lose control like his siblings and have no remorse or the sense of value like he once had. Then, maybe Nami could do something to calm him down which would prove to her that Sanji's love for her is more special than she may have initially thought. This is all speculations and chances of it happening is slim to none. At any rate, Sanji and Nami's relationship is undoubtedly just going to progress. I would also like to mention those people that say “Romance between the crew would destroy the image of friendship that they have going.” I understand what they mean but you have to understand one thing: Sanji has had a different intention towards Nami ever since they met. Yes, they are friends as of now, but them being together wouldn’t destroy anything because Sanji has viewed Nami more than just a friend and in chapter 991 Sanji actually calls her MY nami-san. Perhaps you think oh it’s gonna ruin it because it’s going to be forced since it’s a one sided love. Again, I understand what you mean but them being together has yet to happen and I don’t think Oda would simply make Nami love Sanji romantically for no reason.
For the second part of this talk I will discuss some of the plausible hints that may or may not prove anything. Though one thing before I do that, I wanna talk about some of the reasoning of LuNami fans and try to interpret it with my own logical reasoning instead of biased reasoning. Please bear me with me.
1. Nami and Luffy are the only ones wearing crowns on some of the color spreads which apparently shows that they are both King and Queens meaning that they will be together at the end. Now this could be the case, but it could just show that Nami is the heroine of the story, the main girl. Similarly, Luffy is the protagonist and has a crown on him and it would also lead to the idea of his dream being the KING of pirates which is mentioned by him a lot. However, the idea of QUEEN of pirates has never been mentioned of any sort. The closest we got is Boa Hancock being referred to as Pirate Empress. Therefore, calling Nami that is just pure speculation with no relevance to One Piece but I do understand what the LuNami fans mean.
Tumblr media
2. Nami and Luffy are the only ones that appear to be raising their hand on some of the color spread. Now Luffy is raising his hand because there's  treasure which would mean he'd be able to eat a lot of meat. Similarly, Nami is raising her hand also because there's treasure and as we know Nami loves treasure.
Tumblr media
3. Luffy putting his straw hat on Nami's head. Now I have no idea how this turned into a romantic gesture but I guess there's no point in questioning it. If anything though, Luffy giving his straw hat to Nami shows his trust to her even though she betrayed them which shows that Luffy still considered her as Nakama. Luffy knows his nakama very well and will do anything for them. Sanji literally went on a brutal beatdown on him and he took it without using haki because he understood Sanji’s sacrificial motive. Unlike Nami, who believed Sanji’s act, Luffy knew the truth. Sanji just thought of it as Luffy just being selfish but Luffy knew what Sanji really wanted, which was to be back with them. It’s one of the reasons why Luffy is such a good protagonist his always true to his words. It goes to show the lengths Luffy will go to once he views you as a nakama. Luffy treasures his nakama and puts his hat on Nami and says "Of course I will" after Nami asked for help. My point being, his hat is his treasure and was a way of confirming to Nami that he still viewed him as one of them. This is because Luffy could've just said "You're my friend, of course I'll help you." Instead, he took the hat route as means to say you're my friend and I view you as my Nakama.
Tumblr media
4. LuNami fans like to use movies, especially strong world, for hints. But those movies are not canon...in other words it never happened in the real story. You can call it fanservice if you will. Some argue and say what matters is Oda's intention. I'm just like😂🤷 because sure it was his intention FOR the movie which is not CANON. The hints or moments in the movie are for the movie exclusively. It's like blood type just because we're both humans doesn't mean we have the same blood. We can't use each other's blood if they DIFFER as means for transfusion. (I was not arguing please don't hate me.)
5. LuNami fans also bring up Usopp Gallery where Oda apparently called one of the SaNami fan arts 'stupid' and 'delusional'. All I can say is it's called Usopp Gallery for a reason which means that it's Usopp's commentary not Oda! Even if we say it was Oda's intention it just wouldn't make sense because Oda made those Sanji and Nami moments knowingly that it'll create some sort of ship between the two. So if it was his commentary then it wouldn't make sense because it's like his calling his own creation stupid. Usopp though calling it stupid makes a lot more sense. Also, one of the fan arts indicating SaNami commentary stated "This is Sanji's dream" which would prove SaNami right? Since One piece is all about reaching your dreams. Again, We don’t have a way of confirming it 100% if it was Oda's intention or just Usopps but if you're a SaNami fan don’t take it for granted and let it deviate your initial thoughts.
Tumblr media
6. Portgas D. Rouge, the mother of Ace, apparently looks similar to Nami. We don’t know anything about Rogue history to make comparisons in regards with character. So saying they’re similar is quite invalid. Appearance wise they do not look alike at all: different hair color, eye shape, and eye color. I also don't think she's a navigator or part of Roger's crew because the navy didn't seem to have known her. Luffy and Roger are comparable but not really in terms of character. Roger is more intelligent than Luffy in terms of being captain; he knows what he needs to achieve his goals. Luffy on the other hand, was just lucky enough to stumble upon the right people and had to save them to build trust vice versa. Roger seems to not have a problem killing people as he did for Squard’s crew. Luffy is less proud because he is in fact willing to kneel in exchange for favors and mercy. Whilst, Roger seemed to contain a lot of pride as we can see with Ace. Luffy also has the ability to draw everyone on his side which I doubt Roger had. Luffy and Roger share the same passion of becoming the King of Pirates but they are very much different. As a result, they are not gonna have the same outcomes except of course becoming the king of pirates.
Tumblr media
7. Nami’s punches working on Luffy actually means something other than being a GAG. Garp calls them “Fist of Love '' so LuNami fans think that there's some connection between the two. In reality, unlike Nami, Garp knows Haki so it makes sense that his fist actually hurt Luffy. In an sbs Oda confirmed that it’s not that Nami’s hurting Luffy physically but his spirit.
8. They would also point out Oda’s wife cosplaying Nami and use it as a hint and say Oda thinks of himself as Luffy. However, when asked what he thinks about Luffy Oda said that Luffy is what his “ideal child” would be. Did you know that Oda’s a chainsmoker and a pervert? Well now you do. That reminds me of someone that we One Piece fans know very well…..Ohhhh that’s right, Sanji! My point being, if anything Oda is more of a Sanji than a Luffy. Thus, this hint is logically more favored towards SaNami.
The main reason why I choose SaNami over LuNami is mainly because I don't see Luffy as someone who is interested in romance. I don't think Oda will change Luffy's character and turn him into a character that appeals for romance like Sanji. This could possibly change after he is able to achieve his main objective of becoming the king of pirates like Roger suddenly having a baby. However, for Roger he had a reason why he wanted a kid which was to inherit his will of becoming the next king of pirates. As you can see the Roger pirates were too early.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So he made sure to have a kid that could inherit his will which we now know as Ace. Unfortunately, Luffy will be the man Roger is waiting for and become the one that he hoped his child would become. Therefore, Luffy wouldn't really need a child to inherit anything because he already will be the one finishing the mission. Now, Luffy can still definitely have a kid but he is the embodiment of freedom. I'm not sure if Luffy would desire such responsibility. Luffy can also just end up with someone with no child like Rayleigh. Sanji has a sense of commitment as I established earlier; he just needs to be loved back and taken seriously. Despite Sanji being one of the more intelligent straw hats he has yet to discover the WAY to Nami's heart. Nami could personally just ask Sanji to do so and Sanji would probably be able to maintain composure and just love only Nami and still be kind to other girls which is not a problem and Nami actually favours it though not the point of him killing himself because of it. Like how Nami respected his chivalry in Enies Lobby. Personally, I just find SaNami really cute even though it's one-sided as of now. The slow burn romance of two friends slowly becoming true lovers at the end MaMa Ma Ma! that would indeed be sooo satisfying. My headcanon is getting more severe as we speak. If you have read until here you're a legend. T'was mostly nonsense coming from me but thank you for reading have a beautiful day.
Today marks the birthday of Nami-Swaaan July 3rd

One Piece Chapter 1058 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And we return again
Wano is in the books, and amazingly, we can't be 100% sure what arc we're heading to next. All we know is that the final saga is upon us, so stuff is about to begin to hit the fan even more than usual.
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
Starting with the cover page and it goes as you'd expect, Caesar wants Germa to take him with them. Doubt it's gonna be a better kind of captivity mind you, though he might be happy experimenting for the Evil Army and giving them weapons
As usual, Luffy is being punished for his recent death-defying stunt, trapped in an iron cage by Nami
Jinbe tries to laugh it off, but Nami's not letting up, giving Jinbe a trial by fire for the domestic Nakama life
It is funny though that Jinbe thinks Nami has Conqueror's Haki
New Bounties Time!
Luffy and 9 Commanders they say, reminder that Blackbeard has 10 Commanders
Cotton Candy Lover Chopper 100 -> 1000 berries, he's at least out of triple digits but it's still an undersale as I expected (though I was harsher at 500), strange though that the WG acknowledge he's a doctor but not up his bounty accordingly
Cat Burglar Nami 66m -> 366m berries, a monster upgrade from her, I only doubled it, but I guess her standing down Kaido did help her bounty increase, much to her horror
Soul King Book 83m -> 383m berries, another 300m addition, surprising though this one since he didn't do too much in Wano, maybe his actions in WCI got revealed at last? We don't see his picture which is weird
Cyborg Franky 94m -> 394m berries, sensing a pattern yet? Unique for Franky though is that his Bounty is the Sunny rather than his face or mech
God Usopp 200m -> 500m berries, the godhood continues, now Usopp's Enel level, though he is very intimidated by it
Devil Child Nico Robin 130m -> 930m berries, an 800m rise is among the largest of rises of the crew, and it's well overdue given how super low her bounty was, now she's in a Yonko crew her threat is higher I guess. Plus she gives Chopper some cotton candy to calm him
Black Leg Vinsmoke Sanji 330m -> 1.032b berries. a 990m increase puts the first wing of the Pirate King into billion tier, but he is dismayed that he is no longer the second highest bounty of the crew, literally flaming in anger
Knight of the Sea Jinbe 438m -> 1.1b berries, Jinbe's recent addition has seen his bounty nearly triple, this one is odd to me given how he worked for Big Mom beforehand and never got such a high bounty, then again he did escape BM's fleet (still need to know about that) so maybe that helped bolster it, Sanji though spares a moment to curse him out as well as the final one.
Pirate Hunter Zoro 320m -> 1,100,001,100 berries, I dunno how Oda decided on this number, I checked Binary conversions but nothing leaps out at me. Zoro is at least smug to be higher than Sanji, though scarring Kaido and defeating King would earn him that right
With Zoro now able to refer to him by rank number, the two squabble again as Luffy, 3b bounty Luffy, sits in a cage
Meanwhile, the other new Yonko isn't faring too well either
A beheaded Buggy begs Mihawk and Crocodile for his life, all while his unaware subordinates sing his praises
Seems that the Cross Guild was Crocodile and Mihawk's alliance specifically, and they don't take kindly to Buggy claiming all the glory
Even Mr. 3 is selling Buggy down the river, dude you forget that Crocodile wanted you dead since Little Garden
Even Buggy's main crew intents to side with Crocodile if he dies
Daz Bones doesn't seem to like that thought though
Mihawk flashes back to the origins of Cross Guild, with Crocodile calling him about his title being stripped and them teaming up. Seems once upon a time, Mihawk was the 'Marine Hunter'
Wouldn't say Mihawk doesn't trust anyone though, can't say that for Crocodile either mind you
Seems the misconception that Buggy is a part of the group comes from Crocodile bailing his island out from the marines, Crocodile only wanted capital from him but he was broke and already owed Crocodile money
As an alternative to being sold to slavery, Buggy offered his services and company to be Crocodile's foundation, only for his fandom of followers to market Buggy as the leader
Don't think I didn't spot the 'here it comes' meme either
Mihawk meanwhile only got roped into it because the Marines knew he was teaming with Crocodile
Cross Guild Bounties are out now too
Sir Crocodile 1.965b
Dracule 'Hawk Eye' Mihawk 3.59b, just over 500m less than Shanks' - who confirms, as if it wasn't already clear, to have better sword skills than Shanks
And for Buggy the Genius, 3.189b. Lower than Mihawk...
Ever the wise one, Mihawk however proposes an alternative to killing Buggy, and instead letting him be the figurehead
Mihawk has no ambitions to be a Yonko and at the least if people come they will go after Buggy rather than them, so he can be their sacrificial lamb
Finally we return to the Kambakka Kingdom, where the Revolutionaries reconvene
Sabo's not back but they're all happy to know he's safe, Dragon though is upset with rumors that he killed Cobra
Looks like there's a Skypeian on that table too...
Kuma sadly still is a mindless slave, as Dragon asks him to recount events
Wiretappers in the Navy have caught an outgoing signal to the kingdom, looks like Sabo's making a call
Ooof, break next week...
This was a nice palette cleanser of a chapter, mainly covering the bounties of the big players. I'm surprised they're so high really, everyone but Chopper got at least a 300m increase. Interested to see how Franky's poster comes into play too, should we start making Mecha Sunny theories? Or is it just a nod to bad timeline Franky becoming a sentient warship?
Surprised no titles were changed too, they felt overdue as my predictions post noted.
We didn't spend a lot of time with the Straw Hats really, which does help my slim hope that Carrot still stowed away, but it does feel like there's a bit more to cover.
We got the reality of the Cross Guild's formation, which is a lot more logical than Mihawk and Crocodile siding with Buggy. I do think Mihawk and Crocodile may be on their guard a lot though, Crocodile would betray Mihawk after all, Mihawk I think knows this but would just swat him away rather than backstab, dude just wants to live in peace it seems, waiting for Zoro to beat him.
Some really high bounties from them, Mihawk being higher than Buggy's still miffs me though, you'd suppose the bounty size would play a part in who is the Yonko after all.
But we cap it off with Sabo and the Revolutionaries, no real answers there but it seems like that's what we're doing next? Perhaps a Reverie II mini-arc? I think Sabo knows he's being wiretapped too, it would make the most sense to expose the WG by telling his side of the story publicly.
Sadly though the breaks have returned for Oda, a month off wasn't enough it seems XD Hopefully though all will be revealed soon

Ingles :
Today I was playing one piece warriors 4. In the whole cake arc I took the mission to rescue Sanji (after his interrupted wedding with pudding) with Nami's character. Losing the mission the first time 😆😅 I got that dialogue" I promised that I would bring Sanji with me" and it was very cute. Very canon.
My LuNa fan friend says that actually going to look for Sanji isn't for him. If not for herself. To assert that she has a position in the crew.
The truth is that I see that he did it for her to make it clear that he should and deserves to be with the straw hats but that he also did it for the love and concern he has for Sanji. And that also to make it clear that Sanji is his and he deserves it 🥰 (ok no)
In the other image is a curious fact that I found very funny. In one piece sbs 103 a fan asks oda for nami's number for a date but asks her to give it to him without Sanji finding out.
To which Oda gives Nami's number and tells her to call her den den mushi. Since in the worst case Sanji can go after him by tracking the location of his phone. How sweet, possessive and overprotective Sanji?

Hello !! I really admire your theories and perspectives of Sanami . I'm your fan !! Would you mind if i ask about your thought about how different in relationships between Sanami and Luna are..... and what make you choose Sana over Luna. I would really like to see your perspective about them. Thank you very much 💙🧡🌈🌈✨✨
Hi and thank you so much for you kind words. :) Sorry that I haven't answered sooner.
I feel I have talked about this subject in various posts of mine (like SaNa is a good ship or Why SaNa over other ships?), so I hope it's ok if you feel I might be repeating myself. ^^''
I don't really want to start ship wars so before anything I just want to say that people can enjoy whatever ship they want and everything in this post is just my view.
First of all, most shipping is based on preference to some degree, and for me I simply enjoy Sanji and Nami as a romantic option more. I also don't ship Luffy with anyone, because I don't really see the appeal of romance with his character.
Maybe because so many have the idea that romantic love is superior to other kinds they feel like it's needed, but I really don't think Luffy ending up with a romantic interest is necessary for his story. I also think that pairing Luffy with one of his crew members feels a bit off. Especially after such a long time without any interest from either party. (I don't feel like Oda will make Luffy pick "favorites" amongst his crew explicitly).
As for the general relationship between Luffy and Nami I've talked about it a bit in my two posts Luffy – A “Brief” look and Nami – A “Brief” look. I think they have a great bond and that it is one of the ones Oda have given more time to show. But that kind of just makes me think a romance is even less likely, considering how he has written them so far basically without any hint of romantic coded moments at all.
In contrast I also think despite Luffy being the Main character the fact that Oda keeps giving a lot of moments between Nami and Sanji in particular instead of between Nami and Luffy makes them a better bet for romance. Just from a storytelling perspective I think some of Oda's choices with SaNami could be intentional setup for romance towards the end of the story. Even in the way Luffy and Sanji leave Nami to someone else is a rather big contrast. Like how Luffy tells Sanji to save Nami in Thriller Bark, and now more recently how Sanji told Usopp "I leave MY Nami-san to you."
A writer rarely adds story for no reason, and we already know Oda is very good at foreshadowing. If he has a plan for any romance to happen by the end I am sure he already knows who and has an ideal of how it will happen.
The thing is that I don't expect romance to happen until the end, mostly because it's kind of a distraction from the adventure. However, to me it seems implied that for Sanji love is something that he wants and dreams about. If Oda gives Sanji a happy ending I think it's possible that romance will be included.
With both Viola and Purin it seems to me that Oda has shown that love is something that Sanji does want and also does take seriously. It's not just lust, there is romance there too. I think the fact that a big part of the fandom shifted from Sanji will die alone to seeing potential in romance for both Viola and Purin shows that Oda can shift the narratives if he wants to. Though it's been a rather slow change.
With both of these women Oda also showed them actually falling for Sanji to some degree, and seeing his good sides despite his pervertedness. In fact WCI was a whole arc to show what a great person Sanji is.
What we also got was Sanji clearly putting Nami above these two women and even both of them reacting to Sanji and Nami. Something that Oda has shown consistently over many years in the manga is that even though Sanji flirts with all women, Nami is his number one.
I think with Sanji and Nami what we lack is mutual interest from Nami's side and that is something I think Oda needs to address properly if SaNa is to make sense as an ending pair. The point is that we are already halfway there because we know that Sanji loves her. With Lu/Na we have no interest at all, not even a one sided one. Even though they for sure have a strong bond.
Again, in Wano we got Sanji saying "My Nami-san" for the first time in the entire manga. I don't see why Oda would suddenly add that for no reason when he hasn't before. At the very least it makes it more difficult for other characters to end up with Nami, unless Sanji ends up with someone.
Basically Sanji loves Nami and if Nami ends up with someone else Sanji also needs a happy ending first. And if that someone is Luffy it's kind of just gonna be more of a slap in Sanji's face. (Obviously he loves them and would likely want them to be happy, but from a story telling POV.)
Oda has used Nami and Sanji together many times for character moments, fights and even romantic looking scenes or themes. I don't see why he would bother to go out of his way to highlight Sanji and Nami together so often if he plans for Nami to be with Luffy. Because Luffy is the main character, putting him and Nami together is easy and he does it a lot. But writing moments like Luffy leaving Nami to Sanji or Nami and Sanji having their own separate conflict on WCI etc. are choices Oda didn't have to include but did anyways. You can also see a clear difference in how Sanji treats and how often he ends up with Robin vs Nami. There just seems to be this idea in Oda's mind that Sanji goes wherever Nami goes and thus their storylines often include each other in various ways, big or small.
Maybe it will just be an unresolved thing where nothing really changes. But I have a hard time seeing Lu/Na happen with the way Oda writes SaNa. If Sanji gets a happy ending with someone else, then maybe Lu/Na could happen, but even then I don't personally see the point of it. Neither do I think we have seen the buildup necessary for it to work at this point.
Thank you so much again! I am glad you enjoy my content and that you decided to leave me an ask.

The Voyage So Far: Alabasta (Part Two)
east blue (1 | 2) || alabasta (1 | 2) || skypiea || water 7 || enies lobby || thriller bark || paramount war (1 | 2) || fishman island || punk hazard || dressrosa (1 | 2) || whole cake island || wano (1 | 2)
Tumblr media
crocodile is one of my favorite villains in one piece for a number of reasons, and one of them is because he’s such a threat, the first real one faced in the grand line and one of the toughest in all of paradise. the villains from the arcs before this, like wapol or the agents from little garden, could barely even land a hit on luffy in actual combat. so crocodile is introduced here as an absolute force of nature, a complete contrast to recent villains and a very tangible threat.
it’s an impression he very much lives up to later in the arc by crushing luffy not once but twice, which only makes luffy’s ultimate hard-won triumph feel all the better. luffy closes a huge gap over the course of alabasta in order to be able to beat crocodile, and giving us a sense of just how strong he is from the very start gives luffy clawing his way up to that level a lot more weight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the successive reveals of luffy’s family never fail to absolutely delight me, because in any other series they would almost certainly feel contrived, but knowing luffy, it is absolutely unsurprising he just never happened to mention his relatives. nobody asked! luffy’s unique brand of honesty is one of my favorite character quirks, because he’s very straightforward and in fact can’t lie for shit, but his priorities are so completely off the wall that he winds up omitting highly relevant information completely by accident.
Tumblr media
ace’s scene in alabasta really does impress me. oda’s said in an sbs that he knew ace’s fate from his introduction, which i find absolutely unsurprising given the intricacy of his story planning. that means he needed ace’s introduction to make him both likable and memorable enough in the space of just a couple chapters that the audience would be engaged when he became the focus of the story a couple hundred chapters on despite barely appearing at all in the intervening time, and he really succeeded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kohza is one of my favorite minor characters in the whole series, and i think he’s a big part of why alabasta’s civil war plotline works so well and feels so real. nobody on either side of the war actually wants to fight, but everyone has been driven to such desperation that they feel they have no other choice in order to save their country; and kohza exemplifies that. he's a good person who loves his country a lot, and who genuinely likes and cares about the royal family and vivi especially, and the only option he can see to save alabasta is terrible, but there’s nothing else he can do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s just fun for me to think about the fact that if crocodile was literally anything other than a very skilled logia, vivi would have ended the whole entire arc right here.
Tumblr media
i really like civil war storylines when they’re well-done, and i think alabasta is one of the best ones i’ve seen in media. most of it is down to what i mentioned earlier, about how nobody on either side actually wants to fight but feels like they have no choice but to. nobody here is actually in the wrong except for crocodile, and so until crocodile is defeated, nothing can be fixed- which is what luffy, of all people, is the one to realize.
Tumblr media
sanji’s mr. prince gambit is probably my single favorite part of alabasta, and i think one of the reasons i like it so much is because he basically beats crocodile at his own game. crocodile is terrifying in battle, but before anything else he’s a manipulator. he’s always working from the shadows, always deceiving people doing what he wants, and sanji manages to turn the tables on him and do the exact same back to him, twice.
also sanji looks great in glasses
Tumblr media
smoker and tashigi both get kind of unfortunately sidelined after this saga, but they’re both really great characters in alabasta. (tashigi especially; i’ll get to her later.) much like the rebel army, they’re good people trying to do the right thing in the tangled mess of tension and politics and resentment that is alabasta- and when that means working with pirates, they’ll buckle down and do it, despite how much it might contradict their worldviews.
i love when events align in one piece so that people who don’t particularly like the strawhats wind up working with them for some common goal (as seen most prominently in impel down), and smoker and tashigi in alabasta are the first and still one of the best examples of that.
Tumblr media
the entirety of luffy versus crocodile round one is so well done. we’re a hundred and fifty chapters in, and although luffy has struggled in fights before now and then, we get the sense he hasn’t ever really been pushed to the brink, and he’s certainly never lost.
and then he does, completely and absolutely, without ever even landing a hit on his opponent, and it hits like a punch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oda seems to be a fan of characters just barely missing each other- the similar panel of robin and olvia running past each other from robin’s flashback comes to mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’ve always liked that of all the strawhats, it’s usopp who gets the first “luffy is going to be king of the pirates” moment. they’ve all said it by the current chapters in wano (with the sole exception of robin, i believe), but usopp said it first, and that feels significant to me. he’s always been the one who feels the least secure in his place on the crew, but even so, he has so much faith in luffy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nami’s fight with miss doublefinger is pretty silly in places and i think it gets frequently (understandably, it must be said) overshadowed by zoro’s fight with mr. 1 directly afterwards, but i really like it nonetheless. it’s nami’s first real solo fight in the whole series, and once she finds her feet she kicks ass, and i really like that. it feels like a very satisfying development for her, to stand up and risk her life in direct combat for vivi’s sake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we’re now almost a thousand chapters in and its my firm belief that zoro versus mr. 1 is still one of the best fights in the entire series. i definitely think it’s probably zoro’s best fight- only his match with kaku compares. the narrative build over the course of the fight, from zoro struggling just to match mr. 1 (and getting shredded to pieces in the process) to cutting him down in one final stroke, is incredibly cool and satisfying to watch. it feels like a very tangible step forward for zoro in terms of ability, like a massive obstacle has been surmounted and, as he himself says, he’s now stronger for it.
its also very cool that this is, i believe, the first appearance of what is probably observation haki, though it isn’t named or recognized as such. i’m always endlessly impressed by all the little moments of internal consistency that oda manages to sprinkle into his story.
Tumblr media
there’s barely any dialogue on these entire two pages, from crocodile dropping vivi to luffy and pell swooping in- the story is briefly told entirely through visuals- and i love that. it gives the impression of a single tense, frozen moment as vivi falls, which is then broken in spectacular fashion when luffy catches her.
Tumblr media
i really, really like the progression that runs through all three of luffy’s fights with crocodile. the gap between them goes from being impossible, with luffy unable to even land a hit and crocodile basically toying with him; to surmountable but still huge, with luffy able to land some hits but still outclassed; to finally putting them on basically even ground. and every inch of that growth on luffy’s part is hard-fought and hard-won and well-deserved.
crocodile’s confidence in his abilities isn’t misplaced- he genuinely is that powerful. but if there’s anything we know about luffy by now, it’s that he doesn’t ever give up. it’s very fun to watch crocodile’s dismissiveness turn into disbelief turn into rage and frustration when luffy just won’t die.
luffy is, additionally, pretty clearly a better brawler than crocodile (which makes sense, crocodile is clearly used to devastating long-range attacks with his powers while luffy grew up fighting giant wildlife with his bare hands), which means that by the time of their last fight, where they’re just whaling on each other in the catacombs and crocodile is starting to get sloppy and desperate and lose control, if anything it’s luffy who has the upper hand.
Tumblr media
zoro and sanji’s dynamic is always a favorite of mine, and one of the things i like best about them is how perfectly in sync they always manage to be when it comes to things that actually matter, despite fighting like cats and dogs pretty much every other time. i’ll never understand people who think they genuinely aren’t friends.
Tumblr media
tashigi is really good in alabasta, okay. she essentially has her own entire character growth arc. she goes from her stance in loguetown, where she isn’t even tolerant of (fully legal!) bounty hunters, to here, where she’s forced to confront that the world isn’t nearly as black and white as she’s always believed it to be, that sometimes pirates are good and allies of the government are bad, and ultimately makes the right choice to help the strawhats even though it clearly pains and frustrates her that she can’t do anything more herself.
i’ll be forever mad that her only really significant appearance after this in punk hazard didn’t really live up to what her character deserved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i really like how the countdown sequence is done. the tension is ratcheting up and up and up as the clock ticks down in the final seconds, panels cutting all over the city to show all the different characters, everyone who’s caught up in this conflict and everyone who’ll die if the cannon fires-
and then the clock hits zero, and we get this panel that’s just... quiet, after all the madness, as we see how vivi stopped the detonation. i think oda is very good at setting up his pages so they have a flow to them, so no matter how quickly you actually read sometimes things feel like they’re going very fast and all happening at once and then it slows down and gives the reader a chance to breathe, if only to speed up again later. i think oda is really good at pacing in general, really, both on a micro level like this and on a larger scale.
Tumblr media
luffy’s greatest strength isn’t really his strength. he’s strong, absolutely, but that’s not really why he wins the fights he shouldn’t win. he wins because he just doesn’t fucking stay down. his fight with katakuri is probably the best example of this, because katakuri has him beat in pretty much every category except sheer endurance, and there as here, it’s that endurance that winds up getting luffy the win in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i do love that it’s the rain that ends the war. not the explosion and pell’s sacrifice, not vivi’s pleading, not even luffy kicking crocodile into the stratosphere, but the rain, the thing alabasta’s been missing for too long, the thing crocodile stole, the only thing all these people are fighting over.
it’s crocodile’s symbolic defeat- at the same moment his power is broken by luffy, the stranglehold of dehydration he’s been using to foment war and rebellion is all at once gone, and he’s left with nothing at all, and alabasta can finally find peace and start to heal again.
Tumblr media
i always love the little moments that show, usually without words, just how much the strawhats love each other, and all of them unanimously waiting until vivi is out of sight to collapse so that she won’t worry, won’t see how ragged they ran themselves for their sake, is definitely one of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i adore vivi’s sendoff, because while its sad she has to go, the certainty that someday they’ll meet again and that even if not they’ll always be crew manages to make this scene endlessly hopeful instead (which, i think, is also a good summary of one piece’s tone as a whole, at least in its more serious moments). luffy never says goodbye, after all, and nobody ever really leaves the strawhat pirates.
i’m really looking forward to vivi’s re-entry to the story. i really, really want to see her reunion with the strawhats.
Tumblr media
hey look, it’s the panel my profile picture is from!
Tumblr media
the mystery surrounding robin and her past is built up in little ways long before enies lobby, from her harsh reaction when confronted with by tashigi to her aversion to being called by her given name to this flashback, of her talking to cobra about her dream. of them, the latter is my favorite, because i think it’s probably the most sincere she is until enies lobby- which makes sense, given she thinks she’s about to die.
like many things about robin in alabasta, this gets cast in a new light by her backstory. if she dies here, so too does the entire legacy of ohara- but she’s so beaten down and hopeless that she really doesn’t see any light ahead to strive for. there’s no hope left, for her, and the whole world against her.
and then there’s luffy, who creates hope everywhere he goes, who makes her live anyways.
Tumblr media
this is a hell of a spread to hook us very effectively right into the sky island saga. it’s a perfect reminder of just how much we still don’t know about all the endless mysteries of the grand line, and just how many adventures are still yet to be had.

can I ask what are your thoughts about people on tiktok cancelling oda for being "misogynistic"??? I'm a woman and misogyny is a huge word so I got shocked and see what they were talking about and its about this interview where female fans are complaining about the girls characters design and fanservice and he said he cares more about his male audience thats why. One piece is shounen and is male dominated, and you know how they like the non realistic big boobies and hips though I agree that there's too much fanservice and nami and robin's old design were better. But the fanservice criticism is understandable as a woman I would also like a diverse body image for women like how Isayama creates his fem characters which is chefs kiss. Oda draws them poorly (in my opinion) but I like how THEY ARE WELL WRITTEN. I love their mommy milkers but I agree the new fans or anime watchers who's gonna start watching it might feel uncomfy but setting aside their design THEIR BACKSTORIES ARE GOOD. And he writes Zoro as someone who sees women snd men equal so I don't see how he's misogynistic 😅 Misogynist hates women, Oda doesn't hate women he just said that his target audience are men bc op is shonen after all.
I literally love female characters in op they're well written comparing to other shonen that's the same age as one piece that has the same fan service but the girl is just quirky, submissive and has no personality at all. Like Naruto the women are so poorly written and could've had more potential.
Maybe its because I'm already used with the way he drew them but I really love their timeskip faces, they got more drip before I still love them especially Robin
ooo yes interesting, I hope I covered everything in this <3
TW- body image
I’m going to start by saying this is a touchy subject because my body/self-image issues are pretty bad and I don’t like talking about bodies, but I have a lot to say about this specific topic. I do not think Oda is a misogynist, as you said he does write Zoro as someone who views men and women as equal, and a mysoginst wouldn’t do that. he hasn’t done anything in the show that says he hates women, it’s simply his portrayal of them- and more specifically their bodies. that being said, I have a problem with the way he has his female characters look- of course the details and overall animation are amazing, and yes their bodies (especially boobs) are drool worthy, but he could definitely... tone it down a bit. in japan typically are skinny and have low body fat, but the more curvaceous aspect of Oda’s characters are pretty far-fetched. I get why he does it for the men watching, and while that does sound slightly misogynistic, mostly like a stereotypical misogynist, it isn’t- at most it’s sexist. I think that the way the characters look will cause a lot more body image issues in young girls (or just people in general) and that definitely isn’t his plan. it’s giving an unhealthy and unrealistic expectation of women, and maybe more specifically asian women. if he could simply make their boobs a little smaller and overall make their body shapes a little less “perfect” because seriously ALL of them have hourglass bodies except for a few of the villains. and honestly Oda, stop making the glow up so drastically!! Alvida, the large round women who Cody was sailing with when he met Luffy (the very first episodes for reference), was punched by Luffy and flew away, only to show up later and team up with Buggy but she had “glown up” because of Luffy’s punch- she lost all body fat and was left with an hourglass body shape and was then called one of the most beautiful woman in the sea. I mean COME ONE- a fucking punch, Oda?! more statistically speaking, Oda is making his characters follow the beauty standard, I realized this was accurate when Robin’s skin tone changed so drastically as well as Usopp’s, and really all of theirs did- we could have done without that.
so back to the misogynistic aspect, Oda writes all of his character’s backstories the same, and they’re all awesome. also they typically all show power and fight, if he was a misogynist then I’m willing to bet we owuld get a lot more sorrow and weakness from the females, lots more battles fought exaggeratingly horrible and lost, or always being saved by the men (when in fact some of the men have been saved by the women). while we could do without so much “princess/female needs help saving kingdom/town/something” it’s not too bad. the fanservice is a bit extreme, I hate how they have to show so many bath scenes for the girls and how Nami usually has sideboob/boob in general showing, I find it kind of insulting myself but that’s only my self esteem issues- which I’m sure other people have and feel the same way, so you’re not alone if you do feel that way about it. and when Nami’s boobs tend to pop up from her top, I’m thinking of those scenes in the outfit she wore during the episodes she met Sanji’s brothers. and the fact that when she hugs people their faces go directly into her cleavage doesn’t need to be so drastically pointed out, we don’t need a close up or anything Oda but... thanks?
one big thing that proves he’s not a misogynist is that a lot of high ranking characters are female; Portgas D. Rouge, Charlotte LinLin (Big Mom), Boa Hancock, Tashigi, Tsuru, Catarina Devon, Alvida, Jewelry Bonney, ect.
he also has a lot of powerful female characters that had large impacts on characters (ex. their mothers) such as: Kuina, Olvia Robin, Bell-mere, Nojiko, Toki, etc.
he also has a number of male characters that are extremely anti-misogynist like Sanji and Zoro as well as Luffy. while Sanji is slightly sexist, he shows no hate towards women, he literally worships them. Zoro and Luffy are much better example because they’re neither sexist or misogynist, neither have any problem fighting a woman. in fact Zoro hates that women are seen as weaker and his whole childhood ass well as life was impacted by Kuina who was trying to prove herself because she was a female and eveyone underestimated her and thought she couldn’t be/wasn’t a swordsman- Zoro expressed his anger at that because he doesn’t see why anyone would think that. and Luffy simply just couldn’t care less about what gender someone is.
so all in all, Oda is not a misogynist, his portrayal of female characters is sexist at most but he is no woman-hater.
