Gotta give my man, Sakurai and his team, massive credit when it comes to Smash Bros.
He knew that licensing every third-party character would be a challenge, and yet he was determined to make sure that every character that was in the series would return for Smash Ultimate. He approached  Konami for Metal Gear and Castlevania (twice if you include the echo fighter), Sega for Sonic, Bayonetta (with PlatinumGames) and Persona (sometime during development for DLC with Atlus), Capcom for Mega Man and Street Fighter (twice for including the echo fighter), Bandai Namco for Pac-Man, Square Enix for Final Fantasy (twice) and later Dragon Quest for DLC, SNK for Fatal Fury, and even rivaling gaming company Xbox Game Studios for Banjo-Kazooie (with Rare) and Minecraft with regards to playable characters alone.
And that's not even taking into account other properties not represented by playable characters, such as Shovel Knight (Yacht Club Games), Shantae (WayForward Technologies), Virtua Fighter (Sega), Monster Hunter (Capcom), Bomberman, and Ganbare Goemon (Konami), Rayman, Rabbids, and Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft), Fatal Frame (Koei Tecmonote ), Undertale (Toby Fox), Cuphead (StudioMDHR), Warframe (Digital Extremes), Super Mario RPG, World of Mana, and Octopath Traveler (Square-Enix), Fallout (Bethesda, ZeniMax Media, and later Xbox Game Studios), No More Heroes (Grasshopper Manufacture), and all the various Namco games such as Galaga, Tekken, and The Tower of Druaga and SNK representation beyond Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters. In total, that's at least 30 different franchises with 17 different companies and one sole individual (most likely) to negotiate with.
Just the fact that there are ten third-party fighters (Snake, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu, Ken, Cloud, Bayonetta, Simon, and Richter) at launch. Compared to Brawl's two and 3DS/Wii U's three, six if DLC is included, that's already a staggeringly impressive count. Then the first Fighters Pass gave everyone four more (Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie, and Terry), with the second one giving even more (Steve & Sephiroth), bumping the number up to a whopping 16 (22 if the Hero's skins from III, IV, & VIII and Steve's skins of Alex, Zombie, and Enderman are included).
And they did it.
Smash has the rare distinction of getting these many varied third-party franchises and companies under a single roof, giving a lot of credence to the fact that the series itself has well and truly evolved from being something that simply celebrated Nintendo's history alone to celebrating the history of gaming as a whole.
This game...this franchise, is a fucking major crowning achievement for Sakurai, his team, Nintendo, and the gaming world at large. The first game started as something Sakurai would work on his own time that didn't have Nintendo characters, and even once Nintendo got involved they gave him a small budget and didn't plan to release the game outside of Japan. Things sure have come a long way since then.

Not much I can say about the direct. It is kinda a shame there wasn't anything Fire Emblem related, but hey, I can wait. I only really have 4 things to comment on.
I haven't played Xenoblade 2, so I have no real reaction towards Pyrra being in Smash, but I'm happy for others who have wanted some rep. I also like how deceptive the trailer is at first. They actively hid that this was a Smash trailer and those are my favorites.
Age of Calamity getting an expansion pass is sweet, especially since it seems they're finally making Purah and Robbie playable. Honestly, any excuse for me to keep playing this game, I'll take.
Speaking of Zelda, Skyward Sword coming to Switch means a lot to me since this was the first Zelda game I played. I might even get those new joycons for a real authentic feel.
But, honestly, none of this matters to me, because the moment Triangle Stradegy was shown, that was all I cared about. A jrpg that uses Final Fantasy Tactics style gameplay, has the art style of Octopath Traveler, and is a game where your actions and decisions actually matter and aren't a temporary change like most Telltale games?
I want it!!!
I am literally typing this while I wait for the demo to download because I will be playing it every day until I get this game.

Smashing Musings - Travelers
The Travelers Set Forth!
Just a musing for any future Smash title. Today, I’ll give a made-up moveset I made for the eight Travelers of the game Octopath Traveler.
Yes, I said the EIGHT Travelers. Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion, H’annit - all eight of them with the same moveset. As per some discussion among certain comments, I decided to make them all alt choices for the same fighter (much like Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings, or the four Heroes), and give them all the weapons and elements available. Of course, their proportions can be adjusted to fit the same hitboxes (again, like with the Koopalings).
-= Specialty: Boost - As time passes, BP (Boost Points) will fill. The Traveler has up to 3 BP at a time. - Using Boost will activate 1 BP at a time (or deactivate them if there's no more to activate). - Active BP will apply to the next smash attack used, increasing its damage and launch power. - It can also alternatively apply when using Element Attack, HP Thief, or Leghold Trap.
- Neutral Attack: Three step sword combo. - Flurry Attack: Rapid knife jab. - Side Tilt Attack: Fires an arrow. - Up Tilt Attack: Waves a staff upward. - Down Tilt Attack: Rising axe swing. - Dash Attack: Spear lunge. - Side Smash: Cross Strike. Slashes forth twice with a sword. - Up Smash: Spearhead. Jabs spear straight upward. - Down Smash: Amputate. Slams axe forward, smashing ground around. Axehead is a meteor smash.
- Neutral Air Attack: Swings staff around once. - Forward Air Attack: Fires an arrow forward. - Back Air Attack: Thrusts knife behind self. - Up Air Attack: Swings sword upward in a wide arc. - Down Air Attack: Swings axe below in a wide arc.
- Grab: Snatches foe up close. - Pummel: Punches foe upside the face. - Forward Throw: Lunges foe with spear. - Back Throw: Pushes foe behind and backstabs them with knife. - Up Throw: Strikes upward with sword. - Down Throw: Slams foe into the ground with staff.
- Neutral Special: Element Attack: Hold to cycle through six different elements, and release to cast it. - Fire: Moderate damage and range. - Ice: Short range, but freezes foes. - Lightning: Tall hitbox. - Wind: Launches foes hard straight upward. - Darkness: No launch, but heavy damage and hitstun. - Light: Single hit, good at breaking shields. - The next use will begin with the next element in the cycle. - Each Boost level will make the attack bigger and stronger. There are essentially 24 variations overall for Element Attack, considering this. - Side Special: HP Thief: Strikes twice with dagger. A weak attack that recovers a slight bit of health with each hit. - Each Boost level will increase damage, and even further increase healing. - Up Special: Panther Dance: Leaps upward, surrounded by a reddish aura. - Will use a single Boost level if button is held long, becoming invulnerable for most of the move. - Down Special: Leghold Trap: Throws a trap forward that will capture the first foe it touches for a while. - Each Boost level increases the time that the foe will be captured for. - Shield Special: Boost: Each press will activate one BP available. Can activate up to 3 BP. - Final Smash: Journey's End: Delivers a burst of blue fire in front. Leads to a cinematic attack where all eight Travelers deliver their strongest attacks to the affected foes.
- Entrance: Bids farewell to the green-capped traveler. - Idle: Holds hand to hip while tapping foot. - Idle:Adjusts arms into a fighting stance.
- Up Taunt: Spins in place once and throws a hand into the air. - Side Taunt: Brandishes a weapon (in the same pose). - Down Taunt: Kneels down to write in a journal.
- Victory: Unique animation that changes based on the Traveler: -- Ophilia prays with Aelfric’s Lanthorn by her feet. -- Cyrus reads from a book. -- Tressa adjusts her cap and puts a hand on her hip. -- Olberic crosses his arms and turns away slightly. -- Primrose does a small dance. -- Alfyn wipes his brow and hangs onto his satchel strap. -- Therion turns away from the camera. -- H'aanit shoulders her bow as Linde relaxes by her. - Victory: Looks to the distance and ventures away. - Victory: Stops by a journal pedestal to record progress.
-= Palettes =- - Ophilia - Cyrus - Tressa - Olberic - Primrose - Alfyn - Therion - H'aanit
-= Extra =- - Idle stand, walk animation, and dash animation are based primarily on their overworld sprites. - Victory tune may be the same from Octopath Traveler, loop included. - Kirby’s Traveler hat could be based on the Sorcerer job, or the green-capped traveler who used to serve as the save point in Octopath Traveler’s demo (and doubles as a relic from the Bravely games).

Ideas for Smash DLC:
a Hunter (Monster Hunter) --- Rathalos is already in the game, Capcom already has connections with Smash Bros via MegaMan and Street fighter. Has a variety of weapons that coud make for a unique fighter.
Solaire (Dark Souls) --- an Amiibo already exists, Dark Souls Remastered released on Switch, Dark Souls is Developed by From Software, Published by NamcoBandai (who co-developed Smash 4 and Ultimate) Attacks with Swords and Miracles.  Could incorporate a limited Stamina mechanic that balances attacks that are extremely powerful.
Geno (Super Mario RPG) --- Copyright owned by SquareEnix. Exists within Smash Ultimate as a Spirit. Could be an upgrade from Mii Costume to fighter, a la Chrom, K Rool and Isabell. Sakurai wanted to include Geno in Brawl.
Sora (Kingdom Hearts) --- Kingdom Hearts has a History on Nintendo hardware. A Sword character that can use magic. Used to promote potential Kingdom hearts ports? Excellent music. (Though all of this could be said about any other Final Fantasy fighter as well. Noctis/Squall/Zack instead?)
Octopath Traveler(s) (Octopath Traveler) --- Switch exclusive SquareEnix JRPG that received many accolades. Attacks can be pulled from the 16 different classes within the game since each character can re-class freely.. Each alternate costume could be one of the 8 playable characters. Stage could be a traveling stage that changes layout and hazards as the background changes, like the games title screen.
Felix (or Matthew) (Golden Sun) --- Obscure Nintendo IP. Isaac exists within Smash Ultimate as an Assist Trophy, however IIRC Felix’s game, The Lost Age, sold better. A fighter that attacks with a sword as well as “earth based Psynergy” (plant and rock magic.)
Elma (Xenoblade X) ---- Monolith already supports smash in the form of Shulk. A character who specializes in debuffing enemies. Has two weapons, one for melee, one for ranged combat. (Would likely get passed over in favor of Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2)

E3 2018 Thoughts on Nintendo
Tumblr media
So Nintendo over the years has learned to show only what’s coming out soon rather than bait fans with a teaser for a game that is way out in production (Looking at you Sony and Microsoft). In addition, they used their direct this year to push forward the versatility of the Switch as well as give a huge show of appreciation to the Smash Pro community that pretty much built itself from the ground up.  I will give Nintendo this much, their booth this year, while not as cool as the Mario one last year, did have a lot going on and the game lines for just Smash and Let’s go Pokemon were over 4 hours long. They had to cut them off on all three days and set up areas for people to watch others play on big screens.
Also both of their tournaments did strong numbers this year, showing that Splatoon and Smash are still hitters in the E-sports area. Though now I hope Arms gets in there because that game is fun.
Tumblr media
Dameon X Machenia reminded me a hell of a lot of the Super robot Wars games that come out for Gundam and other series. Yet this was very different. Flying robots to fight what looks like monsters/mecha seems like a fun way to pass the time. Also, based on the Tree house showing, there’s a customization element going on not just with the avatar (which you can chose your gender) but also the robot itself and it’s weapons. There’s also an area that looks to allow online play along with a single player campaign. Again, mixed feelings, unless you can invite people into the server that you want playing with you so that you know no jerks will just jump in and ruin the game. Over all I like what I see, but it’s a ways out. Nice of them to start with something exciting.
Tumblr media
Super Mario Party looks amazing. So apparently we can have four players to one switch via the tv set up, but also two switches can be made to change up the board, which brings up the question, can you have more than four players playing if you have three or more switches? It’s Mario Party so most people know the drill for this one. I do like that they kept in a lot of things from the older titles and apparently we’re going to have Bowser as an option to play. This should be interesting to see, and probably will be a buy for me once I’m done with my back log of games.
Tumblr media
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna the Golden DLC. This could practically be a game in and of itself given the way that the story is taking shape here. It looks really interesting and is certainly filling in gaps in the story that we had from XC2. What I’m wondering is if Xeno will rival FF, Tales and DQ in the future with the story telling and now the world building. I should note too that the Challenge mode brought back in Shulk and Fiora from the first Xenoblade Chronicles story. Visually the game looks amazing and really got me excited to buy the DLC, and, apparently there is a second edition that let’s you get both the DLC and the original game. Similar to the FF XV Royal edition.
Tumblr media
This one is the one that I’ve personally been waiting for. As a Fire Emblem Fan since way back from the Game Boy Advanced Version, it’s exciting to see an new FE show up on the Switch. Fire Emblem Three Houses showed up and wow. Since this is clearly an incomplete game there’s things that need to be worked on, but from what we saw I would say it’s really visually amazing. Reportedly the artist that did the art for the Uta wa no Prince Sama series is providing the art here. Though I don’t know because others are saying it reminds them of the artist from the Persona Series. I will say though that the character’s look amazing, and the fact that it’s not an Avatar in this game means that a lot of the story and depth of the story will rely on the characters interacting with one another. Another cool thing was the system where you can train the characters in different triangle weapons, which can become useful. From what we’ve seen there appears to be an open world aspect of this, and you can run around. Also units now have warriors with them and can create formations based on what you need. Over all this looks fun and the animation for the cut scenes are top notch. I won’t lie I’m a bit biased on this one.
Tumblr media
Fortnite was a good move on the switch’s part, and the fact that they showed it in a way that is different than how Sony, Microsoft, or PC shows the game means that they can pull in players that normally may not want to play this. The vibrant color had me going “Wait…is that Fortnite? What the hell? Is it really that goofy?” as most version I’ve seen have had people wearing serious clothing rather than the goofy stuff that you can get. Honestly, if I was good at shooters and liked them, this trailer would have made me pick it up. I hope that people playing on PC and Xbox are having fun with Nintendo players…Sony, I know you were burned in the past by Nintendo, and have issues with Microsoft and for some odd reason hate PCs, but come on…stop locking people out of playing with others. Sheesh!
Tumblr media
Hollow Knight, another interesting showing here. Hollow Knight I heard was a good get for the switch, given that it’s a fan favorite. Mix of platforming and fighting will work well on the switch. To be honest while it’s cute and all I’ll have to see if I want to get it.
Tumblr media
Killer Queen Black is a surprise for some people, as it was a small arcade game that had a loyal following but was believed to not be able to be put on a console system. Apparently they did it. It seems to be a timed exclusive so it may not stay just on the Switch. Looks like fun, but I’m not a bee fan honestly. But it looks nice and I’m sure that other people will love to play it.
Tumblr media
Overcooked 2, I can’t wait to get. It seems like an awesome game and one that I will be playing a lot with friends. Reminds me a bit of dinner dash but with puzzle elements and strategy. Should be a good buy for people that want to have something a bit more relaxing to play in it’s own way.
Tumblr media
Octopath Traveler showed up again, and mentioned a new Demo. Square later went on at E3 to say that they’re going to make a division for the Switch so that’s a promising thing. The game’s demonstration at the tree house has made this a day one for me, which is rare outside of again, Fire Emblem. So this has me very excited and I hope to see more games like this and others from Square Enix on the Switch.
Tumblr media
Let’s Go Pokemon: Pikachu/Evee. Pretty much seemed like Pokemon Yellow. I mean, you play with Pikachu following you around rather than in the ball, and it combines elements of pokemon go. On top of that you can transfer pokemon from go to the game, and you get a mew in the new pokeball add on...although I wish the price was a bit lower for that pokeball. Sheesh!
They had a quick run down of games coming out including: Octo Expansion, SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, Dragon Ball Fighter Z, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Ninjala, Paladins: Realm Royale, Roller Coaster Tycoon Switch, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition (may have shown this it went fast), sushi Striker.
Tumblr media
Smash Brothers Ultimate, I know some were disappointed that this took up so much time, but there’s something that has to be said. This is really, outside of maybe the bigger tournaments, that Nintendo has shown that they have been paying attention to the pro scene for their fighting game. With all the tweeks that they did to this game, and allowing the characters in there the way that they did, they’re going to be a contender at larger game tournaments like Evo and the like. Back when the switch was first show in 2017 there was the whole E-sports section, and I think that Nintendo is actually looking into that with some of it’s games. The various things, like the one on one fighting being made to be more devastating when you have solo fights means that, for pros, the game will move faster. Having the different stage styles also means it’s better for the competition scene so that the game can be played there.
I’m glad to see Ice Climbers back, all my Fire Emblem characters are still there, Wii Fit is back, the amazing Pit is there still, I love that we now have Daisy –my girl –as a character to play as, and we finally got Ridley –after all this time… Now Sakurai, please put in Takamaru from the Mystery of Muramasa castle as not an assist and I will praise you to the high heavens. Oh yeah and Proto and Base (Bass?) are in Megaman’s smash now. (Proto as an echo fighter please? Or Zero?)
As for the other games that are coming out to Switch, while they didn’t show them all…here’s the list from E3 2018 of the games that are coming:
Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion
Bomber Crew
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy –Rumors are going around that Spyro may also be coming too
Dead Cells
Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten DX
Dragon Quest XI –apparently yes it is coming for the switch.
The Elder Scrolls: Legends –tired of this being on your phone…use it on the Switch on the go.
Fallout Shelter
Fate Extella Link –Hey what do you know…the Fate series is now on the Switch
FIFA 19
Freedom Planet
Gal Metal –music game that has an interesting story
Galak-Z: Variant S –You like Gundam? You like arcade games? Well this is right up your alley
Harold Halibut
Just Dance 2019
Kingdom: Two Crowns
LEGO DC Supervillains
Little Dragons Café –What if you could raise dragons in the world of Harvest Moon, same creators
Mario + Rabbids DLC
Mario Tennis Aces –This was kind of interesting to see in the Tree house, making me consider getting it.
Mega Man 11
My Friend Pedro –Yeah the gag game that is coming to PC from Digital Revolver, it’s on the Switch.
My Hero Ones Justice –For those of us who want to smash things with Lord Murder Explosion (Bakugo)
NBA Live 19
Planet Alpha
Raji: An Ancient Epic
Shining Resonance Refrain –Kind of wish this one was shown, but Sega does what Sega does…
Spintires: MudRunner –basically you want to play with all terrain vehicles…then here you go.
State of Mind
Super Meat Boy Forever
Team Sonic Racing
Trials Rising –wish they would have shown some of this
Valkyria Chronicles 4 –Sega….you should have had your own direct…seriously
'V-Rally 4
Wargroove
Arcade Donkey Kong
That’s a lot of games coming out for the Switch…most of these would be fun to play…and that’s not even listing the ones that were already out prior to E3.
Over all, for presentation regarding the use of the Direct, I’d say A- to a B mostly because of the variety. Though I do think that they could have elongated their direct to give more showings of the games that weren’t Smash that were coming to the Switch.

Having just watch the same Direct you have, Nintendo’s presentation may not have been as explosive as expected, but DAMN! Smash looks simply incredible and so, because there is a lot to cover, including new fact sheets for Fire Emblem Three Houses and Super Mario Party, here’s a Digest dedicated to catch you up on what you may have missed, starting with a video of the direct:
Nintendo Smashes E3 with 2018 Lineup, Details About Super Smash Bros. Ultimate:
Fortnite Arrives Today on Nintendo Switch; New Super Smash Bros., Pokémon Games and Many More All Launching This Year
LOS ANGELES, June 12, 2018 – Nintendo opened its activities for the annual E3 2018 video game trade show with a bang – and a smash. Showing world-first footage of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo shared details about the latest entry in a series with sales of more than 40 million units worldwide. A new game built for the Nintendo Switch system, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lets up to eight players square off in action-packed battles that are all about smashing beloved video game characters off the screen. Legendary game worlds and fighters collide in the ultimate showdown at E3 2018, which runs through June 14 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Nintendo made its announcements during its Nintendo Direct: E3 2018 video presentation, which can be viewed at https://e3.nintendo.com. “At E3, we’re showing how Nintendo Switch continues to redefine play, with the broadest range of games people can enjoy together anytime, anywhere,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Fans who’ve debated which Super Smash Bros. fighter is the best now have the chance to settle their differences once and for all, pitting familiar faces against fresh challengers on stages both new and old. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, and the arrival of Epic’s Fortnite on Nintendo Switch demonstrate the strong momentum Nintendo Switch continues to have through 2018 and beyond.”
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will include every single fighter ever featured in the series’ nearly two-decade run, making it one of the biggest crossover events in gaming history. Fans can enjoy returning favorites like Ice Climbers and Pokémon Trainer, as well as newly announced fighters like Ridley from the Metroid series and Inkling from the Splatoon series. The game supports a variety of controller options, including Nintendo GameCube controllers (original or newly designed), Joy-Con controllers or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. With Nintendo Switch, players can throw down whenever and wherever they like in Handheld or Tabletop mode while enjoying online play.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate combines many stages and new items, with gameplay that makes it easy for players of all skill levels to jump in. All current Super Smash Bros. series amiibo figures are compatible with the game, and any fighter’s amiibo figure from other series will also be supported. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to launch on Dec. 7, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. It is being developed by Nintendo, Sora, Ltd. and BANDAI NAMCO Studios, and is directed by Masahiro Sakurai.
Nintendo also announced that Fortnite, the Battle Royale phenomenon from Epic Games, is available for Nintendo Switch – TODAY. Players can download it for free from the Nintendo eShop, then test their mettle in thrilling crucibles of combat. The action never stops with Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, where players can build and battle together anytime, anywhere. Team up online with friends in the same room or around the world. Weekly updates and new gameplay modes will keep the action fresh for seasoned Fortnite players and newcomers alike.
At its E3 booth this week in the Los Angeles Convention Center, Nintendo will give attendees their first chance to play Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, two Pokémon games launching for the Nintendo Switch system on Nov. 16 at a suggested retail price of $59.99 each. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! are a new way to experience Pokémon that lets players adventure with their partner Pokémon in the vibrant Kanto region, discover fresh and exciting Pokémon encounters and Trainer battles, as well as share the adventure cooperatively with a friend anytime, anywhere on one Nintendo Switch system. Players can even transfer Kanto region Pokémon into the game from the Pokémon GO app. These games serve as an entry point to the Pokémon series for newcomers, but they also provide fun and engaging experiences for Pokémon fans of all ages. A new accessory, called Poké Ball Plus, comes with Mythical Pokémon, Mew and is sold separately from the games. Poké Ball Plus includes a pressable analog stick and button, so players can control the new games entirely with the accessory, if they want. Nintendo is announcing two bundles, in which players can get Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! with one Poké Ball Plus at a suggested retail price of $99.99 each.
Other upcoming items announced during the Nintendo Direct include:
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass owners also will gain access to Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country to be released on Sept. 14. In this new story mode, players uncover the full history of Jin and the fall of his homeland, Torna, which existed 500 years before the events of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This new storyline also will be available as a stand-alone retail package on Sept. 21. Full purchase details can be found at Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country.
Super Mario Party: Inspired by the original Mario Party board game play, the beloved series is coming to Nintendo Switch with new mini-games and play styles that make use of the Joy-Con controllers. Super Mario Party includes features like character-exclusive Dice Blocks that add depth to players’ strategy. Up to four players take turns rolling the dice, and individually race across the board searching for Stars. In Toad’s Rec Room, new gameplay links two games and two Nintendo Switch systems for side-by-side fun. The game launches Oct. 5.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses: A new episode of the Fire Emblem series comes to Nintendo Switch for the first time in spring of 2019. The player can maneuver the main character freely and interact with other characters to build relationships and gather information at various points within the game. This turn-based tactical RPG will put new strategic twists on battling, with formations of troops supporting individual units on the battlefield. Players will get to know three main characters – Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude – who play key roles in the story.
DAEMON X MACHINA: A new fast-paced mech action game from Kenichiro Tsukuda is coming to Nintendo Switch in 2019. Players take their customizable Arsenal powered suit on a variety of missions to thwart the enemy at all costs. They can choose and equip their Arsenal with a multitude of weapons, obtain more from downed enemies and swap them on the fly to suit their strategy in the face of ever-changing threats.
Overcooked! 2: The kitchen mayhem returns in this sequel from Team17 and Ghost Town Games that’s brimming with even more recipes, characters, kitchens and co-op madness. Bake, barbecue or broil with up to three other players in wireless local and online play modes. Save the world from clumsy cooking when the frantic food-juggler arrives on Aug. 7.
Killer Queen Black: Redesigned from the ground up, the acclaimed arcade extravaganza that became a multiplayer phenomenon is coming to Nintendo Switch. Players can hop on a snail, hoard berries or wipe out the enemy’s queen to claim victory for their team in Liquid Bit and Bumble Bear Games’ Killer Queen Black, when it launches first on Nintendo Switch later this year.

Octopath Traveler: Players can take another early look at Square Enix’s upcoming fantasy epic when the Octopath Traveler Prologue Demo arrives June 14 in Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch. Play the demo, then use the save data transfer feature to carry your choices into the main game, once purchased, where players can live the stories of each of the eight travelers and freely explore the world of Orsterra. Octopath Traveler is scheduled to launch on July 13.
More great games are coming in 2018, including Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dark Souls: Remastered from BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus from Bethesda Softworks, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate from Capcom, EA Sports FIFA 19 from Electronic Arts and Starlink: Battle for Atlas from Ubisoft, which includes characters and content from Nintendo’s Star Fox franchise that are exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

Nintendo Round Up
Daemon x Machina: Looks like a Gundam-eqsue mech fighter. An unexpected way to start the conference, but not unpleasant.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna The Golden Country: sure is more Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Is the protag a lady this time around, though? I didn’t see the regular guy.
Pokemon Let’s Go!: This pokeball add-on is going to make bank. I wonder if it’s a pedometer like the other pokeball-shaped add-on...
Super Mario Party: This first Mario Party I’ve been excited for in ages! I love how some mini-games can change depending on how you situate the game pads--how cool! But the fact that everyone is still friends while playing it is false advertising, lol.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses: The art style looks pretty nice, and so far there’s not any otaku bait in the character design. If I can’t make a lady tactician, I’m definitely passing, though. I like the updates, and the story seems more compelling than Fates--I wonder if those goddesses are actually evil. IMAGINE:  A FE game where the female NPC isn’t the embodiment of purity and goodness and fucking DIES. ...Though I can’t believe they ended the trailer with what looks like a shitty loli-bait dragon/1000 year old something. Ugh.
Fortnight: Cool port, bruh.
Future Releases  @ Nintendo:
Overcooked 2
Killer Queen Black
Hollow Knight
Octopath Traveler
Starlink: Battle for Atlas

Donkey Kong x Rabbids
Pixark
Just Dance ‘19
Dragon Ball Fighter Z
Splatoon 2 Expansion
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker
Crash Bandicoot ‘Nsane Trilogy
Ninjala
Carcassone
Fifa ‘19
Ark Survival
Wasteland 2
Paladins
Fallout Shelter
Dark Souls Remastered
SNK Heroines
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
Wolfenstein 2
The World Ends With You Remixed
Megaman 11
Mario Tennis Aces
Smash Bros Ultimate: Listen, I’m not a Smash Bros junkie or anything, but I’m super excited for this release. They brought back everyone???? YA GIRL GETS TO PLAY AS PICHU AND ROY AGAIN??? FUCK YEAH. Also DAISY?!?! I’ve been waiting 84 years for this and I have never felt more blessed concerning this one particular franchise. I loved Melee the most out of all the Smash Bros, so I’m glad everything’s being imported. A lot of the small changes they made to gameplay make sense and seem to make the game more enjoyable too. Like making Marth’s combo attack flow quicker. Finally. And you can fucking murder some assist trophies now--catch me beating up Dr. Wright in the Denny’s parking lot. Making a fake smash ball item is also very good: can’t wait to destroy myself with this. RELEASING A GAMECUBE CONTROLLER TO PLAY WITH IS ALSO A GREAT MOVE AND I WILL BE BUYING 200 OF THEM THANKS. ....And of course, I would be remiss to forget mentioning that Ridley is now a legitimate character in Smash Bros. What the actual fuck. Sakurai just gave up. He’s done. Please let him rest now.
YO BUT WHERE’S ANIMAL CROSSING THOUGH?!
Final Verdict:

(seriously where the fuck is animal crossing.)

Today I learned free DLC for New Pokemon Snap came out... on August 3rd... Only pokemon on my wishlist is Gyarados, because after Magikarp being is so many stages I kept expecting to finally see a Gyarados that just never came. (I also wouldn’t say no to giving some of the 2/3 starters their third. Like the 1/3′s are fine, but gens that have 2/3 starters are just awkward.)
Also learned a direct was happening after it was done. I am well informed.
Going to ramble about the direct under a read more, with some gleeful yelling in the tags.
Looks like the Monster Hunter Rise expansion will be with western folklore inspirations as hinted at! DRACULA DRAGON! Can’t wait to see more monsters!
Voice of Cards really peaked my interest. Sadly don’t have the budget for it.
Chocobo GP also really has my interest, I saw Steiner and I just can’t stop laughing. Also saw my child Vivi... but alas another game I have to pass on.
Final Smash character will be known soon... it would be a perfectly Sakurai troll move to add Waluigi after he is already an assist trophy, but that isn’t going to happen. I do feel like it will be a Nintendo character to cap things off, but question is who. I feel like Dixie’s appeal is too localized. Geno’s ship has sailed long ago. Is it finally Bandana-Dee’s time to shine? Or will Sakurai make Master Hand an actual playable character? The capstone before he hopefully takes a much needed break and possibly hands over the reins. (Going to miss wild, mainly baseless, Smash speculation.)
3D Kirby?? I just... I still don’t think it will play well, and the trailer really didn’t quell that feeling. Granted it was the announcement trailer, so maybe a trailer closer to release will do that. I hope it is good for the people who have wanted this for so long.
ROOOOOST! Since it is getting a game specific direct, I hope this is a sizeable update, like 7-15 minutes worth. GIVE ME A DATE FOR THIS DIRECT ALREADY BEFORE I NEVER HEAR ABOUT IT!
I guess they are keeping Triangle Strategies as the name.. I was hoping Octopath Traveler was the exception because it has some charm to it. Oh well still going to get it.
... That Metroid Dread voice over part was weird....
NSO expansion.... I love how they are charging more N64 and the Genesis, yet are still going to drip feed games. And they haven;t announced how much that increase will be. Can only hope that they add more frequently with this. Also find it weird that Phantasy Star IV is launching. Like it is the best one, but still figured 2 would have been the pick for launch. I wonder if this is the reason Phantasy Star 1 was the only one to get the Sega Ages treatment? Since that was for a different system and they had this in the works? Or was it just sales were bad? ALSO YOU TRIED TO SNEAK BANJO-KAZOOIE IN THERE AT THE END! WE ALL SAW IT! Now just have to wonder if Tooie is on the table...and other Rare N64 games. (Also Banjo-Kazooie was the 2nd game in the Japanese direct) I wonder if the Japanese app will get the N64 version of Animal Forest, or maybe they will hold off on that till a possible gamecube.
Actraiser remake coming out of no where! Really don’t like how the side scrolling parts look, but do like the style they went with god/city building part. Zero interest in it, but I do like how it isn’t forgotten. Gives me some hope for the Soul Blazer “trilogy” games and Robotrek
...One day I’ll play Underale and Deltarune... but it won’t be this day.
Gosh this Mario movie is going to be a train wreck.... Outside the choice of Mario it should at least be an enjoyable one.
Bayonetta’s hair is out of control! Does look like Bayonetta 3 will be some nice over the top action. ... I really hope Lappy is an unlockable costume or character like Zero in the first game.

okay, now that i’ve had the time to calm down, i’m gonna list my thoughts on today’s direct, game by game:
first off, i don’t have a 3DS, so i definitely won’t be getting any of the games coming onto there . still, here’s what i think .
- warioware gold . i’ve never been a big fan of the games, but it does seem like a perfect fit for the series . maybe it can come to the switch in the future . - that armadillo game . only exposure i’ve ever had with dillon is as an assist trophy in smash 4 wii u . looks cool but not my style . - mario & luigi: bowser’s inside story remake . okay, so the only m&l game i’ve ever really played was superstar saga, but i know bis is a fuckin great game && that i’m missing out . i’m happy it gets a remake, but ... this soon ? it originally came out on the past ds, after all . - detective pikachu . i wouldn’t be interested in this game at all if it were not for the fact that my dad && the va for detective pikachu were actually friends back in school [ there’s an infamous story that he tells people every so often involving a bear && a few ziploc bags on a camping trip ] . looks good, && ryan renolds surprisingly fits the role of detective pikachu pretty well . - luigi’s mansion . if only this came to the switch instead . at this point, the 3DS is literally at the end of it’s lifecycle, so this is kinda weird to be on a dying system . i can’t deny it looks good, though, but perhaps this is hype for a possible lm for switch ?
&& onto the switch games . ooooh, boy, time to gush .
- kirby kirby kirby that’s the name you should know --- ok, but the dream friends . i am . so hyped for star allies now, more so than ever . i could easily predict that triple d, meta knight && bandana waddle d would be coming back, but the animal friends from dream land 2 ??? gooey from dream land 3 ??? why is marx the jester here ?!?!?!?!? they all look amazing && i can’t wait . - okami hd . eh, i’m not really interested . i like the idea but it doesn’t really catch my eye . gonna be passing on this one . - sushi striker . the only proper way i can express my complete lack of me wanting this game is through the twitch emote residentsleeper . - octopath traveler . now this is a game that i’ve got my eye on . i adore the art style && how it meshes 2D pixelart with a 3D space . the voice acting so far is pretty damn solid && i really like the combat . plus, the apothecary kid is my son, ok . - travis strikes again: no more heroes . kinda interesting, but i won’t pick it up . i’ve never had any experience with the no more heroes series . - dark souls . i value my sanity a lot, thank you very much . don’t wanna lose my mind over fighting the first boss of the game . though i did find some humor in that amiibo . praise the sun, you memelords ! \[T]/ - mario tennis aces . never had any interest in the mario sports games . well, unless you count mario kart as a sports game . though i am glad that we get to see our fashionable boy waluigi again in high definition [ i mean, him && that rose, though ! ] . looks very decent, but i’ll pass . - captain toad: treasure tracker . i’m actually looking forward to this port, surprisingly . i never played it on the wii u, so seeing it on the switch is a welcome treat . plus, new odyssey levels !!! hopefully i’ll be able to get it on my birthday, or something ! - fucking . undertale . toby . toby toby toby . why ... ? just why . i get that you’re a dog && all, but this bone is getting a bit stale to chew . i don’t like how undertale was handled on the ps4 [ except for the dog shrine, that was gold . ] so i’m hesitant to see how it works on the switch . plus, it’s 2018 . i think undertale has been driven into the ground, unfortunately [ not the game’s fault --- that lies more with the fandom . ] . - crash bandicoot: n.sane trilogy . couldn’t be bothered, didn’t grow up with it . i bet the game is great, but it’s just not my thing . &&, again, pretty attached to my sanity, thanks . - little nightmares . not buying it, but good god, that’s a great game for the switch . it’s a game that is an amazing horror experience, && i highly recommend it to those who haven’t played it . it’s got a good plot twist or two as well ! - south park: the fractured, but whole . not my style of humor, not my kind of game . never watched the show, not planning on it . begone, thot . - hyrule warriors . hgdsjhdgdhgdghjehgejhgdgdg no . - arms . cool ! good ! glad to see that game is still being supported && pushed by nintendo ! god knows there needs to be more people in the fandom && playing this game [ && if you’re considering making an arms muse, talk to me . i will die for you . ] ! i honestly need to play this game more, but something else has been eating up my switch time . which brings me to ... - splatoon 2: update && dlc . i am so happy for the upcoming stuff . my thoughts on update in short: can’t really care abt the new gear, camp triggerfish hype, rank x ?? really ?? i’ve just gotten to a- in one mode, i’m scared now . the octo expansion: new singleplayer stuff ?? three words . oh . god . yes . please give it to me . let me go through that subway, dammit ! new levels !! potentially new bosses !! octolings in multiplayer !!! agent 8 is adorable !!!! going to get this after i buy kirb, if i have money left over . && finally on the list: - super . smash . bros . ok, for a quick second, imagine the og, melee, brawl && ssb4 themes blaring at full blast at the same time . then imagine my voice yelling along with the music . that would accurately describe my reaction when that ball appeared in the inkling girl’s eye . it’s on it’s way, && i could not be more excited . new game or port, i don’t care . super smash bros for the nintendo switch . 2018 . get that hype train a - chuggin’ . choo choo !!!!
