parts from the camelot revival cast recording that make me smile, act 2
not comprehensive. might be in an order. featuring 20% more jordan donica.
ENTR'ACTE. we've got the true theatre experience guys (minus the exit music.)
jordan donica's perfect french during the madrigal
the hazy, in-the-other-room feel of the madrigal strings at the beginning of "if ever i would leave you"
jordan donica's perfect vowels.
the dreamy strings when lance comes back in after the instrumental interlude
"it's not the earth the meek inherit, it's the dirt." / again with lerner's lyrics, but taylor trensch does a such good job making them come alive.
"...and fidelity is only for your mate!" / shouted towards the direction where arthur disappeared. have to say, i do love mordred's fierce loyalty to his mother even if he is a toad.
[guenevere, whistling terribly] "stop! you are terrible at whistling!"
"i'm a beginner! i just need practice and encouragement!" / "the very last thing you should have is encouragement." / WHAT are the implications of that statement, arthur???
"my father used to say i sang like an angel who'd been blessed with a particularly pretty singing voice." / this joke has no right being so good.
"what do simple folk do... to forget?" / love that this line could be played ironically or straight.
"what else do the simple folk--" / sighing: "genny." / when i tell you that i almost melted when i heard this on the cast recording
that verse in "fie on goodness" that's just about scotland, and then: "fie on scotland, fie!!!"
the entire ensemble during "guenevere"
trumpet fanfare/snare hit after arthur says "those guards are going to die tonight"!
the slow dirge of winds and percussion at the end of "guenevere"
#some explanations in the tags:#listen. i ADORE jordan donica's voice. i just don't like lancelot (kidding)#lest you think that i'm not giving jordan donica enough credit (he deserves all the credit!!!)#also jordan donica's “perfect french” is 50% a joke. i don't speak french so anything sounds good to me#also ALSO yes i do recognize that this is basically all of “what do the simple folk do”#it's my fav song to sing of act 2 (i KNOW what y'all are thinking. i'm not a bari so i can't exactly sing the same octave as jordan donica)#sometimes i like to pretend that A and G patch it up after that song and then musical ends there. happily ever after.#i almost included something about the finale ultimo but honestly it's too sentimental for me to like that much and i wish they had used the#full ensemble for the camelot theme at the end like they did at the tonys. alas. beggars choosers etc. etc.#also can someone/some people set the record straight as to guenevere's nickname? is it ginny or genny or jenny? i think i'm hearing it on#the cast recording as “ginny” but i don't remember what it sounded like to me when i saw it live#camelot musical#camelot revival

stop letting coloratura sopranos sing Rosina or istg
#and if they do wanna sing it sooo badly - sing the original notes Rossini wrote :)#oh whats that? you cant? you cant because you're practically inaudible below G5? damn too bad isnt it... :))))#no but fr. why. there's so many roles written for a high voice. why rosina. and why not cenerentola or isabella or other rossini roles??#ok im being harsh. i dont mind a good coloratura adding some high notes IF she can also sing in the lower octaves#but im listening to a recording with Di Stefano who is absolutely sublime. and they paired him with Lily Pons 💀#she's unbearable#il barbiere di siviglia#opera tag

I got a few good clips tonight (waiting on permission from people in them to see if I can share them) & I like the fact I can preserve funny stuff when it happens but also hearing my own voice played back is so much why is it that high 😭
#wastepaper basket#I know it's down to hearing your own voice vibrated through your body but my register sounds so much lower to me when I'm speaking#& then hearing it recorded is like. God I wish I could just drop an octave. Half of one even

The title of the next song I write will be a dark comedy entitled “Dramatic Irony” with the subject matter of doing good for humanity despite never doing good for oneself… if that makes sense. It will be filled with country song-style wordplay. I have a few ideas for the lyrics already and it’s kind of funny… I just need to work out a melody… which will probably be cheerful; because I have a thing for setting the most awful lyrics to cute lullaby sounds… and with this subject matter specifically, that would place the song squarely in the genre of a certain controversial fashion subculture… idk how to feel about that…..
#or maybe a blues melody would work better#well… another one of my songs “Little Boots” is both a lullaby and blues-y so I can probably pull off that sound again if I wanted to#I might try composing it on my new harmonica#because B flat is cool#Or I could do a wild thing and actually try to compose on a recorder because I’ve been playing it longer than anything#and I’ve never composed with it; short of a little Celtic improv on the end of “Alien Alien”#well that was a tin whistle but it’s the same method except you overblow on a tin whistle to go up an octave#instead of half-uncovering the thumb hole (because tin whistles don’t have a thumb hole)

what the hell, i'll post this. recording from my practice this afternoon. first movement of the kalliwoda concertino in f
#i'm not wild about it. there's more than a few amateurish flubs in the fingers and articulation#plus the reed i played on today was like. obnoxiously loud and bright. not the biggest fan of that tone i felt like i was fighting it#but the third octave all spoke really well which is always a concern with this piece so. that's a plus at least#oboeposting#sasha speaks#i was going to record the rest of the piece too but it sucked so i'm not sharing those ✌

Why does everything I compose on the kalimba, for the kalimba, always sound better on a low whistle?
#It’s so weird#all the 1984 stuff I did sounds okay on the kalimba but perfect on any woodwind#Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing woodwinds for eleven years and I’ve only been playing the kalimba for four??#Skill issue maybe?#Not that I’m not skilled on the kalimba but I have over twice the amount of practice with woodwinds#And it’s hardwired into my brain because I started playing recorder for school at age nine like most kids#but the difference between myself and other kids is I stuck with it (obsessively) because I really really liked it#without moving onto any other instruments until age sixteen#unless you count the tin whistle as a separate instrument; and it technically is… but it’s basically the same#except you overblow to get into the second octave
