The Halls of Freya - Thor x (Fem)Vanir!Reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: Pre vanishment Thor is quite insistent in his seek to pursue the reader.
Summary: The calm expected for your studying visit to the Aesir gods gets somehow ruined by the intense appreciation of your looks that many began to show you, Prince Thor being the most devoted among your admirors.
With his coronation expected to happen soon, he is determined on the idea of marrying you to make you his queen. Despite facing your subtle rejection over and over, nothing shakes him out of that certainty. Still, he can't help to notice and misinterpretate your friendlyness towards Loki in contrast to the responses he himself has obtained from you.
Slightly jealous of his brother for the first time in his life, he drags him to cooperate in his plan seeking the advice of the goddess of love.
Note: Inspired by this and the swedish song i'm linking below. Full english translation of the lyrics can be found here.

All guests were granted respect and peace in the magnifical asgardian palace, but your arrival seemed to be an exception on the second aspect. As a vanir lady of high nobility, some didn't believe or cared to consider your visit was not essentially social. Adquiring knowledge in the greatest of the Nine Realms, the political center of your universe, was your main goal, but quite many asgardian men had other things in mind when it came to your realm.
Beautifull women, Vanaheim would be forever associated with the looks of Freya in their public conciousness and most Vanir women would get submitted to that image. Asgardian warriors were trying to approach you in herds, scandal spontaneously created on the assumptions typically associated with your origin. Nobody wanted to miss the chance to get a first look of your face and you haven't had dissapointed them.
Prince Loki was the onlyone who remained unimpressed and mocked the situation, winning some of your simpathy from that simple action. Unlike the others, he did acknowledge that Vanir women were also remarkable in the fields of sorcery and divination. Freya herself had shared many magical secrets with the Aesir, matter that should have been as famous across Yggdrasil as her splendid looks were.
From all the fields in magic commonly attributed to the Vanir, your strenght was nature. Completely opposite styles, since yours valued prosperity over power, but Loki was kindly cordial with you as you acknowledged his vastly superior skill. He didn't mind indulging your curiosity from time to time, given that you would pay him with flattery. In that particular context, it was a source of pride for him among all the other asgardians who, unlike him, did want you and were trying to impress you.
His brother, the first of them all.
Thor had been very vocal about his infatuation from the very first moment that he saw you. His whimsical, unstoppable will to chase you was frankly admirable.
Stubborness and chivalry walked hand in hand, managing to either humor you or exasperate you whenever he was near. The eldest prince couldn't stand being ignored and ruining your focus had become his new favorite sport.
" My fairest lady, aren't you bored of your loneliness? " He distracted you once more as you intended to read, making you loose in the sentence. " I believe you won't discover the wonders of my realm hidding your divine face behind that book … Come with me so i can show those to you."
Tempting offer followed by his most charming smile, but you declined.
" Studying is my purpose, Prince Thor. I'm currently more invested in the books on your library than in the contemplation of your glorious looks, and i intend to keep it that way. "
You completed your rejectment with a kind smile, showing it wasn't personal.
" But you must be suffering!" He insisted. " Trapped as you are behind walls, missing the light and the green grasslands of Vanaheim."
You sighed of exahustion, but your eyes were back on him and that was what he wanted to achieve.
" That's why I like to study in the gardens, but your even more frequent visits there have made it impossible."
Thor approached you with hurted innocence, sitting ríght next to you.
" Can I be blamed for feeling curious about the visitor that has deservedly awakened such fascination among my men?" He wondered out loud in sweet whispers. " … Only the race of Freya could have produced a woman so fair, so pridefull. You have mezmerized me and it's with great sorrow that I lament to find your glance fleeing from mine. "
You finnally closed the book.
" I'm here for wisedown, not searching for a man."
The straightfold answer wasn't what he wanted to hear.
" Had a frost giant iced your heart? " He dramatically inquirred. " Mine is burning of love for you, consuming in the wait to make you mine."
His lovely face accompanied the passion of his statement. You could tell he was craving for you to give in so he could break the short distance between you with a kiss.
" I know what you must have heard of us, but not all Vanir women are passionate lovers. "
Nothing could have prepared you for what he had to say about that.
" We will put that on test once you become my queen."
An increíble surprise impossible to hide had caused you to run out of comebacks.
Fortunately someone else granted you one.
" There are two problems with that statement. " Loki pridefully pointed out, approaching him from behind." Father hasn't abdicated the throne in your favor yet, and she is too clever to stand an engagement to you given the volatile nature of your desires."
The god of mischief had found a subtle way of calling him a spoiled brat without it sounding like an offense and for that he made you chuckle.
" Don't listen to my brother's mockery. " Thor defended himself, too focused on you to replicate directly to Loki. " You must trust me. "
" I don't trust any of you. " You mischievously recalled, glancing at the dark haired god, then back at him. " The lady of the shining necklace is very wary of Loki as well, tales circulate in Vanaheim about the tribulations he had repeatedly brought to her. "
You eyes were fixated on Thor as you finished the sentence.
" … Many times, mediating in absurd demmands of marriage from other men."
Loki couldn't beat the allegations, a conversation with Freya was all would be needed to confirm the veracity of those stories.
" Fair enough, that reputation is deserved."
On that you had a specific point to make.
" Just to be clear: you won't get me for him the way you got him the hammer. "
Your acknowledgement of his role in the chain of events was a nice surprise for him, but upsetted his brother.
" I won my ríght to Mjolnir the same way I know I will win your affections. " Thor stated with determination. " Fighting, proving that i'm the best. "
" In that you are mistaken, prince." You coldly corrected, temporally loosing some of your usual politeness. " I'm not a prize for you to win. Even if you believe my beauty is the blessing of Freya's race, you are not entitled to it. "
Far away from being genuinely hurted by the callout, he kept looking at you with adoration.
" I never said i was, but I know you will be my wife. I can feel it, even if you can't currently see it. "
The statement weirded you a bit, so you joked about it.
" Nobody ever told me that the Son of Odin was a seer. "
" Not a seer, a fool. " Loki commented. " He apparently loves to make a fool of himself for you. "
Thor blatantly ignored him, as if the whole world ended in you.
" I will make you fall for me, I promise you that. " He insisted one last time, ríght before holding your hand to place a kiss on your knuckles. " We will be blissfully married, you will be the most stunning queen Asgard has ever seen and I will be your enamored king."
The way in which his blue eyes shined while looking at you said even more than his words. Smiling was like an involuntary reflex for you and he took that as a good sign.
" She can't see it now, but she will be my wife. " He commented to Loki with excitement as soon as you left. " I have a good feeling, brother. She is the one, I must find a way to her heart. "
Loki had quickly realized he was asking for advice because he didn't have the slightlest idea of how to deal with rejectment and refused to face it. Even if it would be just for that, he was very happy with your arrival into their lives. The arrogance and lack of self awareness were still there, but Thor was stumbling with negatories for the first time in his life. For once he had a hard time getting what he wanted and Loki was thrilled to witness it.
" You can always ask your Vanir friend about the courting rituals their women prefer. " He suggested. " Hogun is your closest source, it's his own culture. And he is your only hope, because Fandral has already failed on his own despite being an expert on the matter. "
The blond god smiled as if an insane idea had just occured to him.
A Vanir expert on the matters of love was who he needed as advisor.
" No, no ,no. I know that look. We can't ask her more favors! " Loki stopped him ríght away. " We had terrible experiences in the past, she associates us with anger and annoyance. I wouldn't bother her if it wasn't extremely necesary. "
Thor was careless for the warning.
" She is the greatest expert. Only she can reveal me the secret to win the affections of my beloved. "
The halls of Freya had to welcome him because Thor was welcome anywhere in Asgard. Even if it was true that the splendid goddess had been wrongfully involved in some of his adventures with Loki, she didn't personally despise him for that. However, he was ríght in one detail: they did have the tendency of annoying her to the core. Everytime they had come to her with a problem of theirs, Freya had found herself regretting the help to some extent.
One look at your face was enough for him to toss aside any consideration of risk. At that moment, there was nothing he desired more than your love. The fact that Loki seemed to be your favorite of both had awakened a bit of jealousy in him. You were going to be his, he had no doubt of that, but his brother got an easier time getting closer to you. It was clear that you were friendly to each other in a way that excluided him. In practice, it was more like the difference Loki himself had experienced in his interactions with Lady Sif and the Warriors Three, but it didn't look like that to him.
In fact, Thor was so unused to being treated like that it was quite hard for him. His brother had no friends of his own, reason why he lacked practice as the brother awkwardly engaging in the meetings of a friend group that wasn't really his. He felt left behind whenever you would show to have your own inner jokes with Loki among other signs of your bond in development.
Desperate as he was for your attention, he failed to understand why his brother had more of it even if he knew that he didn't fancy you. Instead of cooperating with his cause, Loki amused himself with jokes at his expense and, for so, he would have to join him in the resolution of his romantical quest.
They reached the magnificent main hall on her asgardian palace, but Freya didn't receive them directly. Instead, her cats inspected the visitors ahead. One passed by Thor with gallant pace and rubbed the head against his leg, but the one that intended to do the same on Loki hissed as soon as his scent was recognized.
" I told you it wasn't a good idea. " The god whispered as they both watched the cat leave in a run. " Clearly, she hasn't forgot of my involvement in all those improvised bargains with lustfull giants desperate to have her. "
" You have paid the price, so did I." Thor calmed him. " If I once had almost considered trading her as ransom for Mjolnir, the sacrifice I endured to avoid it was enough to be forgiven."
Loki wasn't going to let that chance to make fun of him slip away.
" Maybe you should ask her to borrow you her magical necklace again. It's granted that the girl won't stop looking at you if you wear it for her. "
Thor wanted to reply to such shamefull provocation, but he was interrumpted by the sound of a femminine voice approaching. The chant of the lady spoke of a sorceress pridefull rejecting the advances of a flirtatious king in a refined comedical way.
" Lucky of you. " Loki pointed out on the irony. " She seems to be in a good mood today. "
Freya was soon in front of them in all her radiant beauty, but when she saw them, she wasn't happy.
" What have you done this time?" She inmediately questioned them, fearing a disaster. " Unless the frost giants are already on the way, i'm not borrowing you my cloak ever again. "
Gesturally contaning his brother, Loki attempted to save the situation speaking ahead of him.
" Worry not, stunning Freya, since our concerns aren't a matter threatening the gods. I come to you humbly, on behalf of a man suffering for love. "
The eyes of the goddess were like daggers pointed at him.
" You always do, better this not be another of your trade offers. " She warned him, then glanced back at Thor. " It looks like your brother is the suffering lover. "
The god of thunder smiled at her, pleased of being guessed so accurately.
" I'm hopelessly infatuated of the young maiden who has followed you from your homeland. " He began to explain. " … She is the sweetest one this realm has ever known, beautifull like in the most pleasant of dreams, but extremely difficult for my reach. "
Freya wasn't surprised by the confession. Everyone was somewhat aware of how intensely he wanted you, the rarity was to find him admitting he was failing on the conquest.
The goddess of love recognized the desperation in his eyes because she was one of the few that knew it well. She have already seen it many times.
" It's only logical: she is a good representative of everything Vanaheim stands for, as you are for Asgard. " She informed him. " Frey cherishes her, he has practically raised her. From him she had learned the secrets of our kind, and the light magic of the elves in Alfheim. You know well that my brother is a warrior and a lover alike. He has taugh her according to his values: peacefull rullership, love for nature, selfless love and will of sacrifice. "
Her words were indirectly putting in doubt the posibility that Thor possessed such qualities.
" … (y/n) loves Gerd as a mother, and as you know, she isn't a goddess." Freya added, taunting polemic. " My brother gave his sword for the chance of marrying a giantess. This is the image of love she grew up admiring and I doubt she would settle for any less. "
In case he could mix up the interpretation of her words to satisfy his whim, she got very clear with a determinating example showing him the practical translation for his case.
" Would you trade Mjolnir for her, Thor? Ask yourself that, even if she won't demmand you to do it, for this kind of devoted love is the only way to her heart."
The two gods were silenced, shocked by drastically different reasons.
" At least it's most likely that means she isn't currently in love with Loki." Thor finally concluded, refusing to get disencouraged. " He has always jested Frey about his choice, called him a fool for trading his best weapon for a wife. "
In another occasion, that could have accidentally unleashed an argument between Loki and Freya.
The Vanir lady laughed to the assumption and the youngest prince wasn't comfortable with that.
" Excuse me? " The god of mischief stopped the thunder god. " Is that what you think it's happening? "
" She is always so sweet to you! Even when you tease each other, she doesn't mean it with you the same way it falls on me. "
" How?" Loki complained, starting a fight with him instead. " How could you possibly believe that she has fallen for me ? "
" She treats me differently, like if I don't belong among you, and I can't stand it. "
Loki wished he could have openly laughed to his face, the irony was too strong to handle.
Freya read it on his eyes and calculated her strike.
" It's just an affinity, and it doesn't surprise me as much as it should. Your jealousy is pointless, we know he isn't good at keeping friendships. Sooner or later his trickery will damage her and it will fall apart. "
" I shall not be blamed for causing curiosity on her, since your foolish brother has only taught her of light magic and growing plants. " The youngest Aesir Prince defended himself from the provocation. " I bet the girl came to Asgard hoping to learn some real magic. "
For the honor of her brother, the goddess forgot to measure her words carefully.
" Gerd must have showed her some tricks I know you will love. " She coldly sentenced, mentioning the giantess on purpose.
Freya's rage didn't find its límit on Loki, her patience had ran out for both brothers.
" And to you I say: If you don't want to get treated like my old giant suitors, you shall stop behaving like one of them."
The comparison was an offense too great for Thor to tolerate.
" THAT'S ABSURD!!! HOW AM I IN ANY WAY ALIKE TO THOSE MONSTERS??"
His stubborness had awakened her combative spirit.
" Every single day during his worktime here the builder of the asgardian wall used to arrogantly brag to me claiming I was going to be his wife. EVERY-SINGLE-DAY! LOOK HOW FAR THAT GOT HIM! ARE YOU HOPING TO SUCCEED WHERE HE FAILED? "
Circunstantially careless for the presence of his brother, Freya grabbed Thor by the jaw so he would look at her closely as she finished her advice, hoping the words would stick with him.
"Do you think it will work out for you based only on the fact that you are a well spoken and handsome prince? Do you sincerely believe that would make ANY difference? I have rejected towsands like you, not all of them were disgusting ogres.Toss your pride aside and humbly court her with true sweetness instead of this gallant simulation of admiring respect that's nothing but pure arrogance. "
To soften things, she caressed his cheek as she released the grip on his face before providing some encouragement.
" I believe in your good heart, and that's what you should be presenting to her."
The advice was brutal, but very wise. Still, Thor wasn't sure of how much of it was genuine and not only a product of Freya's anger, that he guessed was caused by his brother. Only one thing had been tranquilizing and that was knowing you weren't developing feelings for Loki.
However, the desperation that the trickster god sensed on him under that assumption was an interesting discovery. Thor had kept that small seed of secret distress well hidden untill Freya exposed him. Following the core of the reasoning she presented to them, Loki would gladly assume the role of the servant Skirnir and get him the girl if Thor would grant him a similar reward. Not a magical weapon that time, but the throne of Asgard. He did wonder if his brother could be that foolish, an ever greater fool than Frey ever was in his eyes. Answers eventually came to him when he saw the awe in his expression as he discovered you singing in the gardens of the palace.
Days before the date meant for Thor's coronation, you were trying to cheer up Loki because you were the only one finding his disdain for the situation relatable. While he resented not being the choosen one of his father, you lammented being chosen by his brother. You didn't despise him or deeply resented his interest as completely unwanted, but you knew that once Thor would be crowned king there would be no way out for you. No escape from him, with all the implications that had, and not hating him didn't mean feeling comfortable with a marriage to him.
Frey would come to congratulate the new king and he would have to stay to witness your wedding, so proud that the child he raised has become Queen of Asgard. King Odin himself was the onlyone capable of stopping that madness, maybe moved by the reminder of Gerd indirectly linking you to the giants. That hope was lost when you heard him comment that the peacefull inclinations of a Vanir under the influence of Frey were good balance for Thor's war driven spirit.
Loki was your only hope.
In remembrance of the old stories, you ended up asking him if he could come up with a trick to save you just like all those times he saved Freya from marrying the giants. He laughed, called you a terrible conspirator, and asked you if you loathed his brother that strongly.
The truth was that you didn't, but you couldn't stand the idea of becoming the toy of an arrogant, vain prince. A man who chased you for your beauty, who claimed you were going to be his from the very first moment that he saw you regardless of your opinion.
And yet, that wasn't all what was to be learned about him.
Thor had potential to achieve his goal, you could feel it, but he was blind to it most of the time. His pride blinded him, often turned into entitlement, and you couldn't stand that. Still, you were quite curious for what could be found behind that.
After all, his people loved him for a reason, and you were never able to stay mad at him for long. Vanity aside, you couldn't simply ignore his dedication to you. The way in which his eyes would shine if you responded nicely, his deep voice going slightly softer, his cheery self remaining always enthusiastic no matter the failed landing of his flirting. Allways expectant, waiting for you with such great loyalty like no other of your admirors. The onlyone who managed to make you smile, who would stare at your face but be trully hearing whatever you were telling him.
Venting disdain about him wasn't what you wanted to do about the situation, and it wasn't the ríght way of supporting Loki. You did your part in the way you imagined he preferred to be comforted. No heartfelt speeches, only seeking to humor him with jokes.
That was how Thor had found you, midway into the task of becoming the trickster of a trickster by singing a cheerfull song for his brother. The garden looked even more green and vivacious than usual, work of your magic without doubts. You were wearing a flower crown and behaving with an adorable carefreeness that the god of thunder was incapable of resisting. He remained frozen in his spot, fearing you would stop if you noticed him.
It took him an instant to notice that yours was the same song he heard in the halls of Freya, the dispute of the king and the sorceress. Verses he haven't heard before revealed that the progression of the song was increasingly against the king, He had offered the fair maiden to drink from his goblet, but her reply was terminant.
' I want no wine, I want no mead. To get rid of you is all i need'
Your acting reflected the annoyance and desperation, to what Loki bursted into laughter.
" Your enchanting voice makes anything sound beautifull, my lady. " Thor praised you from afar, finally pacing towards you. " I don't mind being jested when it's done so sweetly."
You turned back and smiled for him, a hint of nervousy over being discovered remaining very visible.
" In Vanaheim, this topic is common in songs meant to be comedical. I believe is the influence of the legends. "
As he observed the interaction, Loki noticed you weren't looking at his brother precisely like the goddess of love used to look at her repulsive suitors.
" The songs of our people speak mostly of battles. " He commented, taking the conversation elsewhere. " The trully amusing ones almost exclusively deal with my shenanigans. "
" And the serious ones focus on my courage. " Thor followed him with pridefull excitement. " I crave to show you some, but I dread that nothing would sound as good in my voice. "
For the very first time ever, he had shown a small glimpse of humility in his courting attempts and you intended to reward it.
" You have a very pleasant speaking voice."
" Then I shall read some asgardian poetry for you! " He suggested and attempted to contain his enthusiasm ríght afterwards. " … If you would consent to spend a while in my company, of course. "
Thor was asking nicely, a change that you approbed. In order to make him see that was the correct path, you couldn't do anything but indulge him.
" I will gladly join you, Prince Thor. "
Radiant of joy as if you would have already agreed to marry him, the old habit slipped back in.
" Not for long, I will soon become King of Asgard. " He corrected you, as if it was meant to impress you. " And the celebration is what i'm looking foward the most. You will have the honor of the first dance, my beloved, with all the kingdom watching us. My glory shall be yours, for I wish no other maiden but you to be admired alongside me. "
" And I suppose you will offer me your silver goblet to drink from as well? " You called him out with mockery. " To what i will have to politely refuse. "
With that, you shortened the distance between you and sweetly sang for him one more verse of the song.
' The King's caresses are not for me, neither I desire his consort to be.'
Thor's lips parted and he released a sigh, ironically enchanted, and the reaction surprised you so much that it made you giggle. It was a display of spontaneous vulnerability, something he had never showed you before.
" Yet how I wish the day will come when you will be mine. " He softly confessed, caressing your cheek. " No King would ever find a better Queen. "
At that point you began to wish you could give in to him. So many doubts were stopping you, mainly due to his oscilant manners. Most of the time he acted like a petulant child, but in moments of brillance like that one he was so close of awakening your feelings.
You couldn't let him know that, not untill noticing stronger signs of long lasting growth. If Thor wanted you that badly, he would have to become a man whose marriage proposal you could take seriously.
And he eventually did, thanks to the trickery of his brother.
For the sake of his own personal interests overlaping with your problem, Loki granted your wish. The coronation was interrupted by a surprise attack of Frost Giants, unleashing Thor's rage beyond any rational measure. His hurted pride claimed vengeance and he recklessly leaded his friends to unleash war on Jotunheim, counting with the company of his brother. Thor's actions were severely punished by the Allfather, who casted him out of Asgard after depriving him from his rank and power.
As Freya later recalled, he got exiled by his own stupidity. You, however, couldn't help feeling guilty about it. Loki didn't have to admit his blame for you to realize he was pulling the strings. He had helped himself and saved you from that rushed wedding, but the cost was peraphs too high.
The chain of events unleashed proved you ríght. As Asgard's temporal regent, Loki denied your ask of returning to Vanaheim. Under his petty excuses, you knew he was probably fearing you would go to Frey with the news, then he would arm the Vanir and the light elves against him counting with the inside support of his sister. Off the record, and sadly, you also were aware to be the closest thing he had to a friend. For so, you were forced to watch his descend into madness.
At his return, Thor reunited with you in the palace of Freya. She had been sheltering you from Loki's rage, unleashed when you couldn't keep supporting him anymore. Despite the fright of those last instants and your regret for trusting him against the lady's advice, you sincerely lammented his passing. The god of thunder found comfort in that, but he seeked more than to vent his grief to you with that visit.
" I owe you my greatest apologies. " He begged for forgiveness, holding your hand. " I was a selfish fool. I overly focused on my feelings for you and never wondered about the true desires of your heart. All you wanted was to chase knowledge unbothered and I kept getting in the way of your dreams for the sake of mine. "
You stared at him in awe, something had changed him deeply during his exile and the result felt like the sign you were waiting for.
" Worry not, good prince: you are forgiven." You answered, caressing his knuckles within the contact he had already established. " Although I do wonder if that dream of yours still stands, many things seem to have changed in the short span of your absence. "
Thor led your hand to his chest, to the spot of his heart.
" It remains yours, if you want it. " He sweetly confirmed. " I hope my learning in exile has made me a man trully worthy of you, but if it's still your wish to decline my affections I will understand it. "
You remained silent for an instant, tasting the moment, and in that feeling he kept the confession flowing.
" Before you take your choice, there is something i need to share. At the peak of my demise I had plenty of time to think, and you were always on my thoughts. From this I have obtained a great realization I need you to hear. "
You were hooked to his every word, craving to discover what he had for you.
" The first time I saw you, I knew i wanted you. That was lust. " He began to explain himself. " When i told you that you would be mine, That was arrogance. "
His eyes were on you the whole time and the sincere warmt in his glance was inviting even tho he wasn't intending that on purpose. There was no masterplan to charm you, only the strenght of his raw feelings being exposed to you.
" And when i realized I would give up everything to keep you, that … That was love. "
Your lips parted for you to sigh in romantical delight, as charmed as you once had made him feel.
" Love is a dream of the Vanir, the true blessing of Freya. " You finally replied, caressing his loose hair and the side of his beard. " So if you love me, and your feelings are true, you are one of my dreams come true. "
Thor couldn't believe what he had heard, prepared as he was to face your final rejection.
" Do your trully want me, in your heart? "
You smiled shyly for him, then nodded affirmatively with the cutest look.
" Many men had stated that they would sacrifice what they value the most for love, but untill now only one had proven it with actions. " Was the reason you gave him. " To the lose of Mjolnir you had also accidentally realized of your real feelings for me. Your punishment found you joining Frey in spirit, as you lost your weapon and discovered the agonical waiting of distant love. "
He didn't consider it before, but you were ríght, and he was very glad you had showed him that.
Before he could thank you again, you were trapping him in sweet embrace.
" Not even in my wildest dreams I could have imagined to be loved like this … and no more nights I will keep you waiting. "

i think one of the most charming aspects of phil ochs as a musician and performer to me is how his love for all the various things he's passionate about shines through his art. there's a certain quality of sincerity and earnestness in his work throughout his lifetime, obviously including his topical songs and political activism but also in regards to the cinematic-ness of his songs relating back to his love of film, songs like the highwayman and the bells being drawn from poems he loved, greatest hits and jim dean of indiana with his love of elvis + james dean, etc etc. you can really tell albums like pleasures of the harbor were labors of love when it comes to all the experimenting and orchestrating. i love hearing old interviews where he talks about his music and everything that went into the writing and recording and his inspirations and whatnot, he was just so unbelievably passionate and it really showed in the art he made

Chuck Berry
On this day in 1958 Chuck Berry recorded "Johnny B. Goode".
Arguably Berry's greatest artistic triumph and one of the most widely known rock songs in the history of the genre. Vocally, the song is delivered with the same breathless urgency as “Maybellene,” with Berry only pausing for breath at the end of each lengthy line. The song's three verses spin a thinly disguised autobiographical tale about a “country boy” from “close to New Orleans” who could “play a guitar like ringing a bell,” itself perhaps a reference to the guitar introduction to “School Day,” which was intended to mimic a school bell. According to Berry, the “‘Johnny’ in the song is more or less myself”; certainly, the third verse, inspired according to Berry by his own mother's prediction about his musical career, is Berry's story set to music. And, in case we miss the autobiographical point, Berry adds the extra “e” to the protagonist's name to remind his listeners of the street in St. Louis where he was born. The song also had another meaning for Berry and Johnnie Johnson. Berry has admitted that the he “wrote it intending it to be a song for Johnnie Johnson,” as the title, according to the pianist, came from when we used to tour….
A lot of times after we'd get finished with a show, I'd go out to the clubs and sit in with the local groups…. The problem was, we had a schedule to keep, and I'd get caught up playin' and drinkin'. By the time I finally dragged on in, the rest of the bands would be gone! A couple of times I had to call Chess and have them wire me some money so I could get on a bus and catch up with them. I'd get there just in time for the show and Chuck would be shakin' his head askin' me, “Why can't you just be good, Johnnie? Stay with us.”

His favorite subject is Defense Against the Dark Arts and his least favorite subject is Acient Runes.
He was one of the Hufflepuff Prefects of his year and eventually Head-Boy.
Adrien is a dreamer and charismatic, but he is also often shy, a bit reserved and considerably innocent and naive — particularly due to his unfamiliarity with much of the world beyond his father's reach. According to Nino Lahiffe, because of it, he resembled a baby bird afraid to come out of his shell. Due to his kind heart with or without his mask, Adrien always tries to see the best in others, to those that have mean or cruel intentions, like Lila Rossi and Chloé Bourgeois, he's willing to give second chances believing that with patience and time, anyone can change. His patience does have limits though, as he ended his friendship with Chloé after she refused to apologize for her actions, even though they reconciled a few days later. As his patience ended with Chloe when he found out about her actions, ending their friendship.
However, he saw the difference of those who mean well and those who don't. It is seen that he reaches his limit of patience with those who manipulate such as Chloe and Lila. This is demonstrated as he becomes blunt to Lila, and ends his friendship with Chloe.
Despite that, he can be oblivious at times to the darkness or mischief in the hearts of others, like his father Gabriel Agreste or his cousin Félix Fathom. Also extending to the situations of others if he thought more clearly and remembered as Cat Walker that it is possible he could be put under the Imperius Curse like Ladybug and everyone else when she mentioned it was her greatest fear and tried to protect him. Possibly oblivious of his own actions such as when he asked to take on some of his partner's responsibilities to prevent Ladybug being put under the Imperius Curse. His reaction, when Nino told Adrien of him and Alya knowing their identities through Ladybug as she did it in an emergency the same way he found loopholes in his father's rules he wouldn't have reacted with that much shock or anger.
Even though he is not very openly emotional to most people, he is friendly, empathetic, understanding, supportive, selfless, and encouraging to others in hard times and will defend his friends against those who would do them harm. His will for exposure, change and making friends definitely complements his personality, although it is a bit of a struggle for Adrien due to his busy schedule. He always put the needs and feelings of others above his own even with those like Plagg or Chloe, with or without his mask, he connects with the hearts of others before speaking his feelings of anger or sadness. He does it with many of his classmates and friends. Like with Marinette Dupain-Cheng to think before she speaks and to be more open-minded, positive, and patient when she dislikes people or feels emotions of anger. Or with Kagami Tsurugi to be more understanding, open-hearted, and compassionate when it comes to others who make her feel hurt or insecure.
Adrien's shyer and gentler characteristics can be observed in awkward, uncomfortable situations or scenarios with particular people. This was shown when he nervously asked Marinette to sign his copy of Jagged Stone's new album, shyly greeted Ladybug, posed with Marinette as their alter-egos in Clara Nightingale's musical show and tried to make Marinette more comfortable around him, but froze up and instead played a joke.
While liking to have fun, Adrien is more serious, obedient, somewhat insecure and less lively due to his strict upbringing. He is sensitive and perceptive; he was the only one who thought it was rude to party when Chloé told everyone she was 'leaving Hogwarts'. He gets his feelings hurt and cries easily-- mention of his mother is enough to make his eyes tear up-- however he is used to disappointment and is able to manage these feelings to avoid attracting Hawk Moth. When in public, he usually tries to downplay his feelings on it, like his relationship with his father. He has an easier time letting his feelings show to those whom he is close to. However, Adrien will act on impulse if emotional enough, like lying to Théo Barbot out of jealousy about his relationship with Ladybug and sneaking out into the night while unhappy on Christmas, missing his mother. He feels that his father is overprotective, causing him to occasionally act rebelliously, like going places with his friends or alone without informing his family and taking things that don't belong to him, though the former case was caused by his father's over-protection.
His desire to be loved makes him vulnerable whenever disappointed by those he cares for, as seen when Ladybug didn't show up for their date. Family-related issues also strike him emotionally, even in the simple situation when his father doesn't show up to spend dinner with him. Or when Mayura's deception leads him into trouble, meaning that he follows his heart at the most inconvenient times. To the point where he admits as Cat Noir that his love impulses are hard to control due to his father showing him a lack of love and inability to share it due to his lack of contact with others. Even moreso it makes him sad and angry when he finally has the love he desires just to have it be taken from him. Reaching for a critical point when the power of Gift forced him to live his greatest desire about having Ladybug's love, her hand in marriage and a family with her. Only to be tearfully told the truth by Ladybug that it wasn't real and upon waking up, he reacted violently even to the point of almost killing someone that was under the Imperius Curse.
To the point where he was so desperate for love that he stepped on boundary lines such as he relentlessly and romantically chased after Ladybug despite knowing she was after someone else. But through love he learned what it means to have patience, slow down, and to let someone go but can still be close to them. Reaching a critical point in growth following the time where he took his time in learning about Marinette especially when it came to her love trauma during their relationship.
Adrien understands that all life is valuable, so he usually thinks reasonably and will express distress and frustration when someone is difficult or something is going wrong, especially in Plagg's case. However, according to Gabriel, he is very similar to his mother, describing them as "dramatic" and "headstrong when it comes to other people's safety". He can be rather reckless with or without his alter ego, insisting on fighting Riposte with a sprained ankle in order to protect his crime-fighting partner. Then, seen again to a more dangerous extent when his ribs were broken as a result of his spell backfiring against him. On the verge of dying, he insisted on continuing to fight, showing his will and determination to help even if restrained. On certain occasions, Adrien (as Cat Noir) can be hasty sometimes, evidently when rushing to face certain Imperius controlled victims without a plan. Due to this rashness, he often needs to be restrained or stopped by Ladybug or Master Fu.
At times, Adrien can be persistent and curious about his secret duty or when wanting to figure something out, as seen when he continuously bribed Plagg with cheese until he spilled the truth about what Ladybug was hiding. This trait is highly apparent in his romantic pursuit of her, to the point where both Marinette (referring to Cat Noir) and Kagami believe that he is stubborn. However, like Alya Césaire, he places extreme values on the mutual trust he has with Ladybug, respecting her decision to keep her identity secret and eventually her secrets with the guardian and when Ladybug became one. To where he held a great fear of losing it and disappointing Ladybug to where he tried to hide the truth from her. According to Ladybug, Cat Noir does annoy her a lot, but he has never lied to her. Per her wishes, he is secretive to others about his personal life, such as his love towards her, partially telling his true feelings to her aforementioned friends.
Adrien is also unaware that his mother is still alive but in a comatose state due to a curse. He believes that his mother is dead, which is why he told his father it was fine with him if his father wanted to pursue a romantic relationship with Nathalie. Showing that he has more fortitude than his father as Adrien despite being in the dark accepted her passing and it didn't lead him down a dark path like his father.
Similar to Chloé, it's also understandable as to why Adrien hates secrets because of his father and possibly mother as he had to live his whole life as one big secret as he was home schooled meaning he was unable to interact with anyone else beside Chloé. Extending to the point to where no one else knew the real him, only the image his father made up of him and as a model. Not only that because of his parents mistake he felt excluded from them as well even mentioning himself that he took up modeling just to get close to his father. When he dons the mask of Cat Noir, Adrien is free to express his inner self, but is bound by his secret identity and ends up becoming a liar himself. However his understanding is bit more refined than Chloé; as he accepts the secrets of his father and Ladybug and trusts that they have good intentions. Which also shows his strong desire to be included to point of being impatient as it takes time for people to trust others. During an alternative timeline, after Adrien revealed his secret identity to Ladybug, both side traits merged, with him showing traits of one when he is the other, as he no longer needed to hide who he really is from her.
Due to his father planning every detail of his life Adrien was unsure of what to do about the future. More so about who he truly is at first starting to accept Cat Noir as his true self but as time went on he wasn't sure. At one point, Adrien believed if he reinvented himself as Cat Walker things would change. But seeing how much Ladybug cared for his old alterego and after the dementor's defeat from Plagg he started to accept that he is both Adrien and Cat Noir.
Unknowingly from his father, Adrien learned what happens when one gives into their own desires through desperation and/or not thinking things through as he let his cousin play on his desire for freedom but it led to the opposite of what he wanted as he got put deeper inside his cage along with everyone else. After their defeat, Adrien learns that his friends were right as he should've fought for what he wanted and doing so he found it wasn't that hard.
As Cat Noir, his personality is an overall combination of both himself and his alter ego, he's the perfect son who's extremely successful at everything he does but he´s also Cat Noir who just wants to enjoy life and have fun as Plagg said. Adrien has the freedom to act however he desires outside of his normal life, letting his wilder side come out. More optimistic and open, he says whatever comes to his mind and has a habit of cracking cat-related jokes and puns. As he said, being Cat Noir is the only time Adrien can be himself. Much of his exaggerated personality, especially his flirtatious behavior with Ladybug, stems from entertainment such as anime, television, and movies due to his lack of experience with people his age beyond Chloé. According to Plagg, Adrien often takes after him and is one of his most irresponsible owners in 5000 years, though the latter might have exaggerated since he also considered him the best "Cat Noir". It is rare for Cat Noir to reveal his vulnerable side, but it does come through at times. Examples of this are when he quietly comments that not all parents are loving, tries in vain to tell Ladybug about his love for her before they went back to their ordinary lives, and opens up to Marinette about his struggles in the love department.
Since he became Cat Noir, like Marinette, Adrien has grown in confidence and developed characteristically. This is seen when he lashed out at his father and courageously asked Nathalie if he could bring his friends with him to the Quidditch World Cup. When Su-Han confronted him and Ladybug about losing the Miraculous he stood up to the Grandmaster about their progress and his lack of help.
In his attempts to get Ladybug's attention, as well as interacting with certain other people, he acts cocky and brags, liking to boast about himself in a comedic way. As seen by Marinette at one point, he was described by Ladybug in the same way. His perspective of people slowly begins to change at first through his fights as Cat Noir; Adrien naively believed that people are only dangerous when they are under the Imperius Curse, but through Lila, he learned that people could become dangerous even without being controlled. Horrified that her hatred of Ladybug is so deep, she was willing to leave the witch and, by extension, everyone else in great danger just to have her revenge.
However, Cat Noir occasionally shows insecurity when comparing his abilities to Ladybug or their new partners but it's also when Cat Noir is at his strongest and his warrior side comes out. He displayed his biggest sense of insecurity when he failed to save those he cares about, leading to the fear of losing them as seen when his romantic feelings towards Ladybug caused him to take on the snake alter ego despite knowing she also needed him as Cat Noir. Another time he feels insecure is if Adrien feels in the shadows of others which was also seen at one point. Both times he was left out by Ladybug because since she became guardian she has more responsibilities and she thinks Cat Noir won't take them seriously and as a result he gets put under the Imperius Curse. So he felt like he meant nothing to her so much so, he was willing to give up on being Cat Noir. As Aspik, he tried for days before coming to the realization that he wasn't the right choice. These traits also often spark his instincts to protect Ladybug before himself, sacrificing himself numerous times always with a confidence she'll find a way when he can't. When realizing that if Ladybug had gave up the Miracle Box and her memories she'd forget about him. Finding the memories they share so precious, refusing to lose her and their duty too important to pass onto someone else Cat Noir bravely defied Su-Han. To where he impulsively attacked Scarabella with his Cataclysm fearing that something happened to Ladybug. At one point, he grew aware of the destructive capabilities of magic as he accidentally struck Uncanny Valley, knowing that if she weren't a werewolf the outcome would've been different. Because of this for a time Adrien felt unworthy of his alter ego's duties and renounced them showing his growing discipline, restraint and caring side. This happened again as his powers was used on people. Albeit, they forced Cat Noir to do so, even though he didn't want to. But this made Adrien feel guilty and disappointed in himself, so much so it grew as a great fear.
However like Ladybug, he too is aware of Hawk Moth's increasing sneaky nature and because of his archenemy behavior Cat Noir slowly accepting that they can't treat everything with "kid gloves" as he attempted to use his magic on their enemies on multiple occasions but as a last resort when there is nothing else to try. He still shows his self control when using spells on someone doing it only as a means of intimidation. Even refusing to use it on his archenemy knowing that he didn't want to hurt Monarch despite all the pain he caused. Knowing he is still a person underneath but became shocked and horrified when Monarch forced him to do it. Showing the greatest discipline of all when Adrien relinquished his ring understanding that the emotional state he was in was no good to anyone.
Despite all these traits, Adrien's change to hishero status and mistakes doesn't diminish his empathy and concern for others, among his other personality traits, such as his reasonable character and reckless behavior. He usually tries to persuade the Imperius controlled victims to calm down and stop their rampage before fighting them when able to do so. While more prone to goofing off, Cat Noir gets serious when it is a lethal situation. He understands that it takes more than just magic to be a hero or useful, using his wits, empathy, and wisdom to help Ladybug out of a tight spot even without them. Even understanding that it's a hero's duty to rescue everyone especially those that cause trouble holding onto hope by setting an example for them that it will help others change. Underneath his hero exterior, Cat Noir never forgets that he and Ladybug are still human with their own problems. He also knows how to cheer up his partner during their hardest times and encourages her to try to fight again. Deeply loyal and determined to help others and save the day, he really cherishes being uninhibited by his civilian life as a hero. Due to his lifestyle and yet unlike his father he isn't tempted by power because he understands depending on how a person uses it won't get them what they need the most.
Even though, Adrien cherishes his freedom he knows it shouldn't be done carelessly as he said that he couldn't enjoy it not without those he loved. Although, he does desire his freedom, Adrien wishes for it to be gained on his own terms as didn't he didn't approve of his cousin's method.
Cat Noir is welcoming and friendly when it comes to accepting new additions to the team, having open arms for Lila and Rena Rouge. He is also open to accepting help from others like Alix and Nathaniel during battles, as shown during the time he was reversed from "puss to wuss", becoming a complete coward, contrasting to his brave and confident nature. Like Ladybug, he is good at providing advice to others when they need it. As Cat Noir, Adrien has the people's loyalty, respect, trust, and help when he needs it.
Through spending time with his other allies, Cat Noir, like Ladybug, also values their support and help. Thanks to his time as his alter ego and daringly wanting to see the outside world, Adrien got to experience something his father may have forgotten: The power of love and acceptance towards others. Starting to feel that Ladybug and the team are like his second family. As well as valuing the support, companionship, and help of his friends. Due to Shadow Moth's power and desire ever growing like her, Cat Noir is thankful for the help of their old and new allies but due to them constantly showing up he felt left out and started to believe that there will be a day when Ladybug won't need him. This suggests he has little sense of his own worth due to his home-life. By the time of his fourth year, his feelings of being left out by Ladybug and the others then makes him so depressed that Adrien didn't bother going on missions, temporarily giving up his disguise and would not do anything else. But seeing how Ladybug felt about his old hero alter ego he showed remorse for his earlier behavior understanding that he was just as valuable as the other team members and that unlike Chloé as well as his father, Adrien can't use force, intimidation, nor his status to make others give him what he wants. Understanding what it truly meant, he also let Félix unintentionally play on his desire to be included by Ladybug but he felt guilty on how he got it as he believed that the other's didn't deserve to be depowered because of him and yet he was happy to know that even without their powers Adrien still had their support.
Cat Noir is also very versatile, while Ladybug was away, Cat Noir takes over as leader of the team taking after the heroine's cautiousness and seriousness acting like a stern older brother and mentor as he did with Scarabella. After Ladybug was struck by Psycomedian becoming very angry he took after her calm and coolness aware in her state that she was reckless and kept her close.
As Mister Bug, Adrien retained most of his personality as Cat Noir, like his hastiness and his confidence in his abilities. However, according to Lady Noire, he lost some of his sense of humor, getting a taste of Ladybug's careful side and creative thinking.
As Aspik, Adrien retained more of his personality as a civilian rather than as Cat Noir. However, despite being still trustworthy and faithful, he was unfocused as his crush on Ladybug kept him from doing a good job with fighting Desperada. Desperate to impress her as Adrien, he disregarded the witch's movements and kept using spells to try to prevent Ladybug from being captured. Eventually, he came to the conclusion he could not be of any help to her as Aspik and told Ladybug that he couldn't help her, understanding that what he was doing brought more harm than good.
As Snake Noir and remembering his time as Aspik, Adrien greatly improved using the power of Second Chance, as he shook off his desire to impress Ladybug. Following Viperion's example, he turned it into calmness, focus, and determination to save his friends.
As Cat Walker, Adrien acted as he normally does in his civilian form, being respectful, gallant and soft-spoken at the same time. Unlike Cat Noir, he did not fool around and focused on the job at hand. Despite a new hero identity, he still loved Ladybug, showing it more subtly. All that reflected the image of perfection his father wants him to be. In fact, Cat Walker acted so much like his civilian self that even Ladybug couldn't act like herself, similar to how when she is around Adrien, even interfering with her ability to use her skills. Through this new persona he learned not to take exclusions so hard as Ladybug told him he is irreplaceable.
As Rabbit Noir, he retained most of his personality as Cat Noir, but in more of a responsible manner also remembering his time as Snake Noir where he managed to show a great improvement over his uses with the time powers.
As Cat Blanc, he retained most of his personality as Cat Noir, but in more of a twisted manner. He used his flirtatious behavior as a façade to get close to his opponents to attack them. His love for Ladybug had become more obsessive and, while still showing to care for her, he still tried to get her Miraculous, even if that meant destroying her. His temper became even more intense as he tried to destroy the whole wizarding world, if not more, in anger for Ladybug not giving him her Miraculous. He also started to resemble his father in the sense that he let his emotions get the better of him.
As Ephemeral, he was shown to be very lethargic, as he was forced by his father, the one who put him under the Imperius Curse, to betray the girl he loves to get her Miraculous. During that time, he wished nothing but that time passes quickly, not only because he wanted his mother to return, but also because he wanted Marinette's suffering to end. Despite being completely submissive to his father, Ephemeral was shown to still care for Marinette, as he was shown to react to her when she called for his help as Shadow Noir took her Miraculous.
As Celesticat, unlike his other Imperius controlled forms, he maintained his same personality as Cat Noir. He was also still willing to help his partner, Ladybug, and Betterfly (a Miraculous wielder he barely knew) escape Shadybug and Claw Noir for being trapped in an invulnerable moment.

Definitely made the right choice to save Omar’s sommarprat for after work so i could listen and read the translation at the same time all in one go because that was… wow.
First of all he’s SUCH a good storyteller. His tone, pacing, the emotions in his voice added so much, even as a non Swedish listener and I really recommend listening to it even if you don’t understand the Swedish. There’s this one moment about a minute in where I heard his breath hitch and it was just so raw and captivating.
I love the structure he chose, starting and ending with his mama. They’re so close and so much of his talk being dedicated to Wilnur felt right.
“Now that my music career was over”. That HURT. He was born to sing. To know that he was that close to giving it up, and half his discography could have just… not been released…
I loved hearing about his happier childhood memories. It’s so easy to fall in the trap of knowing how much hardship he went through and only thinking of that. Baby Omar wanting his mama to be a princess at her wedding and eating all the strawberries. Playing dinosaurs with his hands. Flying his kite. Even though it was his fantasy land, it’s nice hearing how he kept his sense of self through that time.
That said, he REALLY went through it all. His dad used to kidnap him? Him disappearing and trying to sell the house out from under Wilnur is so low. As great as it is hearing about all the strong women who made him who he is, it’s so messed up it had to be that way. And it goes to show how wonderful they all are for Omar to be determined to be the one to break the cycle.
Loved the story about him promoting himself at school, I hadn’t heard it before. He’s really always been about the hustle and that work life.
I hate how he was made to feel in school. He loved performing but the way he was treated for it. It’s heartbreaking to think that all these opportunities he was so excited about was fodder for bullies. Even as he’s telling the story now, you hear the giddiness in his voice and know it’s about to be crushed.
I feel like in the fandom, we talk a lot about how he felt too Venezuelan to be Swedish, but he also felt too Swedish to be Venezuelan. Poor guy really never blended in anywhere, and it shows how strong he is that he used it to stand out, to carve out his own space to be himself.
I’m glad he included Build A Girl, because my greatest shame is that I think that song is SUCH a bop
The idea of teenage Omar being essentially homeless and couch surfing during the early days of the Fooo is horrifying. The entertainment industry is messed up, but man…
“Om om och om igen” was that on purpose? Or is it just a common enough expression that it’s a coincidence?
“It didn’t feel like a privilege, more like a punishment” ok, but like that HAD to be on purpose, right?
Felicia telling him what Young Royals was about when she wasn’t supposed to. I just NEED to know what he said when he reached out to the show and how they reacted to him having all this info he shouldn’t.
“You’ve been offered the part of Simon” “I know”. We stan.
I never watch new shows on Netflix. Stuff will be in my watch later list for MONTHS and I’ll keep avoiding starting it. Or I’ll watch 2 episodes and stop. I’m truly, genuinely so glad that didn’t happen with Young Royals because Omar has become so important to me ever since the first time I heard him sing.
Happy 2 years to Young Royals 💜

back to review Joback
I am being punished by @glassprism for causing emotional damage (don't ask) so here I am AGAIN reviewing the Swedish man.
This time, we're doing it in Swedish. Let's see if his acting has gotten any better since leaving America.
This boot looks like it was filmed fairly close to the stage. We get a slanted view looking upward at the actors, as if someone had their phone in their lap or by their knee. It's fairly steady, too.
He starts off shouting. About what, I don't know. His voice isn't offensive from the start, but we'll see how it goes when he actually starts singing.
He still has that thin, nasally tone. For some reason though it's a bit more tolerable this time around. Maybe it's the foreign language?
We don't have the greatest view, but are able to see him row into view and help Christine out of the boat. Everything looks normal here. Nothing special. Until he takes off the cape. He whips it over his head. Nobody takes off a cape like this. He's being extra. Which earns him a point. +1 for Joback so far.
+1 for tight pants.
MOTN: His singing is still inoffensive. It has the brightness it had before, but it's less of an attack. Maybe it's the fact that he's done this show before, or maybe it's because he's doing it in his native language.
Speaking of the language, MY GOD IS IT BEAUTIFUL!!
Swedish:
Låt din blick bakom slutna ögon skåda allt, som du anat, men aldrig vågat se. Gör dig fri, låt dig föras högt mot skyn, och en ny värld skall öppnas för din syn.
English translation:
Let your gaze, behind closed eyes, behold all that you suspected, but never dared to see Make yourself free, let yourself be taken high to the sky and a new world will open to your sight
And the way he holds "sky" is just gorgeous.
Unfortunately due to the location of the filmer, we can only see the Phantom's torso as he sprawls against the portcullis. Christine looks like she's about to kiss him but chickens out at the last moment and dashes away. However, when she gets close to the edge of the stage, she has this little grin on her face like she's actually excited about this guy. The way she's gripping her gown is just further evidence.
At the mirror bride reveal, Christine faints. Joback steps over to her so that he is facing the audience and stoops as if to touch her, or perhaps pick her up. He thinks better of it and wipes his hands on his hips and then goes for the cape to cover her with. (+1) After covering Christine, his hands go to his hips again. (+1) He starts to sing again ("Help me give the night its music!") and then does another self-caress/straightens his vest. (+1)
Stranger Than You Dreamt It starts up with the Phantom playing the organ. Loudly. Joback actually stands up and looks like he uses his full weight to press the keys on the last chord.
Nothing of note here after Christine grabs the mask. Standard blocking. Standard execution of lines. Up until the Phantom gets close to Christine and is actually really, really close to touching her. She is flinching away from him until that point, and then she slowly uncurls herself to actually look at him. At that point, he takes his hand away from her and covers his face again. I feel this was a nice touch because it shows us that Christine has sympathy for him early on, the fact that she was becoming less tense before returning his mask to him, and while seeing his face up close. And then the Phantom ruins it by grabbing her and saying the fools above will be missing her.
Fast forward to Il Muto. Not much to note here either. Joback does have a great laugh though. The shadow double is always entertaining to watch.
We can't see him on the angel statue, but we can hear him. He sounds like his usual self. Nothing more to report. Could use more crying.
Nothing stands out for the Red Death scene either. Standard blocking. Joback's standard voice.
We get a good view of the Phantom coming out of the cross in the graveyard scene thanks to the way this video was filmed. It looks like he's using his cape to hide in the shadow, rather than having an ivy curtain.
Sweden gives us a pretty good trio! It's sometimes hard to hear Christine, and Joback's voice really stands out, and I wish I could hear Raoul more, but when the volume blends correctly they sound amazing. Joback assumes a standard pose but +1 for execution.
Tumblr media
I love how they're both standing.
Tumblr media
I may have listened to the trio three or four times.
Nothing interesting happens in Point of No Return until Christine pulls away from the Phantom and walks to the opposite side of the stage. The Phantom is still sitting on the bench facing away from the audience, and he spends quite a bit of time there. I had to go look at a couple other boots (no points for you for guessing which ones I looked at) to determine how long the Phantom usually takes before he moves to face the audience. Once he does face the audience, he briefly stands up, but sits back down immediately when Christine continues singing. +1 for doing something interesting.
Please appreciate my first attempt at making a gif.
Tumblr media
He does something else kind of weird too. Instead of just sliding his hands upward, he raises his entire arms as if he's praising the sun.
Tumblr media
Right away he does something kind of funny in Final Lair. Thanks to the lighting and the position of the filmer, we can see Joback spray some spit. And it won't be the last time he does it either.
Tumblr media
He also wipes his hands on his hips at one point. And when he disappears behind the throne to grab the lasso, Raoul and Christine move away from the portcullis to look for him. I am disappointed that we don't get a scream from Christine when Raoul is noosed.
She does do something really interesting once he is in the noose though:
Tumblr media
Raoul's actor is doing a good job acting like he's really strung up.
Unfortunately for me, the camera is not positioned quite right so I was unable to see the kiss-hug-kiss. But Joback scrambles back into frame a la Ethan Freeman and wipes his hands on his thighs again.
He grabs the candle and goes over next to Raoul. Christine shouts, and he shouts "no!" right back at her. He severs the rope and Raoul yeets it across the stage. It was not a throw, or a toss, or even chucking it. He yeeted that thing.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately I am only awarding points for stuff that Joback does. Otherwise this would have been worth a point.
Joback does do this weird walk across the stage though. +1 for that.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, Joback is much better here than in the English language boot.
Joback score: 8

The Rise of Keith Deller: From Darts Champion to TV Icon
Tumblr media
In the world of darts, few names resonate as loudly as Keith Deller. Born on December 24, 1959, this English darts player etched his name into the annals of sports history with his legendary victory at the 1983 BDO World Darts Championship. Deller’s triumph over the formidable Eric Bristow wasn’t just a win; it was the moment that transformed him from a promising contender into a household name. Keith Deller’s journey from an unknown qualifier to one of the sport’s most celebrated figures is a tale worth retelling.
The 138 Checkout: A Record That Changed the Game
The highlight of Keith Deller’s career is undeniably his infamous 138 checkout during the 1983 World Championship final. September 6, 1809
It is three days since I have written you. What is on t'other side this leaf was probably intended for Sunday the 3d. On Monday went to hunt vessels. Baron Wetterstedt made a friendly visit. Dinner, wattn och bru. Tea l'apresmidi¹ which, as usual, kept me awake all night. The bank will give out no more silver or gold. With difficulty I got the value of 2 dollars. Hosack called in the afternoon with invitation from Captain Barry to dine with him on board his ship to-morrow. This morning, too, (Monday), I had a visit, unexpected; unsolicited; not unwelcome; 1 rix dollar. Tuesday. Got up late, and, for reasons unknown, in very bad order. Heated, nerves tremor; no appetite for breakfast, which is unusual. Went abroad, however, at 11. Called on Baron Engerström; out. On Mr. Brooks. At 1 to Captain Van Alen's quarters to go with him to Barry's. There were five Americans and three Englishmen. About 5 P. M. came in Major Nordforss et ux. and M'lle (Fruka² being noble) ———; both handsome; the latter an air of delicacy, &c; the former very lively and speaking French and Spanish. After coffee went with them to a house and garden of their relation about a mile lower down. The garden is extremely picturesque and being on that lofty ridge which bounds the harbour on the right, elevated about 150 feet above the water, affords as fine a view as Morsebaka. Gathered fruits; much romping and coquetry. Went home with Madame N. and engaged to see her at 12 to-morrow. Home at 8. Mr. Dorrell, one of the Englishmen, engages me to dine with him to-morrow. On getting home found all my maladies exceedingly increased. A very quick pulse, agitation of nerves, and burning hot, though the weather is quite cold, and I had drunk very little wine. Withal, a sort of exaltation of tête,³ which altogether distressed me exceedingly; pains in every bone. The family of d' Aries are in the country. Mr. Gransbom out. No means of explanation with old Anna. Not a lime, or lemon, or anything else to be had at this hour. Ordered hot water and Sw. trinka,⁴ of which with sugar drank copiously, but no relief; though lay in bed, exceedingly restless. Took thirteen drops of laudanum, the greatest dose I ever took; and finding sleep quite out of the question, got up, dressed, and read a long, dull comedie, "Le Jaloux",⁵ 120 pages, close print. About 2 A.M. a little relieved. Went to bed; slept about four hours and got up well. There prevails in this city a malignant fever, which frequently has carried off persons in two or three days. Having been often in the quarter most infected with this disease, no doubt I had caught it, and I have given you this detail to show how very slightly any such disease can affect me. I disclosed to no one that I was sick. A sick man is a very contemptible animal. Owing to very temperate habits, my constitution affords no pabulum to such diseases.
6. Rose at 7. At 10 to d'Albedÿhll's; out. To General d'Helvig's; out. At 12 to Madame Nordforss. Staid an hour. Ne soutint la 2me Vu.⁶; engaged to go with her to the play to-morrow evening. At 2 to Hosack's to get him to show me to Worrell's, who is at lodgings. We were at table five Americans, two English, and five Swedish, among the latter a merchant from Nordkeeping⁷ of prepossessing appearance; a brother of Bergström, also merchant; a Finland merchant. Came off at 1/2 p. 5, the guests appearing disposed to drink al'angloise. Was engaged to tea with Madame Daily, but did not go, being out of order. Passed the evening in reading and projecting my intended journey. Called on Baron Engerström to-day. He offered me letters to Prussia, where he had resided as minister.
1 For l'après-midi. Afternoon. 2 For Swedish Fröken. Lady. Formerly this title was applied to an unmarried lady of noble birth. In later times it is synonymous with English Miss or German Fräulein. 3 The head. 4 For svagdricka. Small or weak beer. 5 "The Jealous Man." 6 Probably for [elle] ne soutint [pas] la deuxième vue. She didn't appear so well on a second view. 7 For Norrköping!

Turnédatum 26 maj Burx Restaurant - Örnsköldsvik 27 maj Folkets Hus – Ersboda 25 juli Ön’s Festplats Hedesunda – Gävle 4 augusti Gangvidefarm – När 5 augusti Källunge Gård - Källunge För mer information om The Boppers http://www.boppers.se/ För intervjuer kontakta: Anette Ståhl Enmusa Music Tel: 0707-180 120 E-post: [email protected] För mer information och bokningar: Mats Bokström  Act4You marketing AB Tel: 073-576 50 66 E-post: [email protected]

The graph below shows all referrals to gender clinics in Sweden. The inverted U shape of the curve is extremely interesting. Referrals to gender clinics fell off a cliff in 2019. Why? And why no rebound? Does the Swedish experience tell us something about the hype and potential disillusionment surrounding the practice of medically transitioning children?
Tumblr media
Source: Presentation by Louise Frisén, Chief Physician, Associate Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the KID (Stockholm) clinic for gender incongruence and gender dysphoria – delivered at a Swedish Medical Ethics Council Seminar February 6, 2020
The sudden, sharp increase suggests a triggering event. Certainly, the explosive growth in natal females seeking gender transition is a new phenomenon throughout high-income countries. It has coincided with the advent of social media and the popularisation of “transgenderism” in mainstream media and on-line.
Swedish child psychiatrist, Sven Roman has compared the explosive growth in the number of cases of gender dysphoria to other psychiatric conditions, such as eating disorders and self-harm behaviour, that are known to spread with social contacts. He documents the process of discovery that the medical community went through to understand how to best treat these kinds of conditions. Over the past decade, he says research has proven that supportive psychotherapy can reduce or stop self-harm behaviour within 3 months. Of the avalanche of gender dysphoria cases being referred, he says:
Unlike the epidemic of self-harm behavior, (gender dysphoria) care providers are not exploring to find the right treatment. Instead, on a broad front, drastic treatment with high doses of sex hormones and breast and genital surgery is introduced. This despite the lack of any scientific evidence for these treatments for children, and probably not for young adults either. - Sven Roman, MD and child psychiatrist
In the fall of 2019, there was a 65% decline in the number of referrals to gender clinics in Sweden. This corresponded with experts calling on the government to review clinical protocols and more balanced media coverage of the phenomenon of regret among gender transitioners, including the airing of a documentary entitled “Trans Train”.
The 3-part documentary includes several interviews with detransitioners and revealed that medical transition of minors is not evidence-based. A high profile transwoman in Sweden – Aleksa Lundberg – also came out in the media saying that if she were to go back and make the decision again “I might not have had the surgery”. She said she had believed that “there was a more scientific basis” for this healthcare – but has since realized that that is not the case. She says people deserve “a more complex narrative” than the simple public narrative that the media has been promoting on the topic of gender transition.
Referrals have remained steadily lower, indicating that the medical necessity of gender transition was questionable for many of the youth being referred for treatment. We are told that the treatment of minors now (unofficially) includes referring many to psychiatric evaluation. Previously, we are told that almost 100% of trans-identified youth who were referred to the gender clinics were prescribed puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones.
Some Background In the fall of 2018, Sweden’s Social Democrat government proposed a new law that would have reduced the minimum age for sex reassignment surgery from 18 to 15, remove any need for parental consent and allow children as young as 12 to change their legal gender.
The government received a major backlash from the scientific community, however. Christopher Gillberg, a professor and psychiatrist at Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska Academy, wrote an article in the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper warning that hormone treatment and surgery on children was “a big experiment” which risked becoming one of the country’s worst medical scandals.
The Swedish government shelved their proposed law and instead, have instituted a 3 part review in response to a proposal from The Swedish National Council on Medical Ethics. [...]
In their letter, three government agencies were highlighted as needing to participate:
The Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU) – to undertake a systematic literature review of the scientific basis used for assessing children and young people with gender dysphoria, and what is known about the long-term effects on physical and mental health. This should also include a review of what is known about the causes of the increase in the number of children and young people, particularly girls, seeking assessment and treatment for gender dysphoria in high-income countries. Differing claims about how common it is for people, who have begun treatment for gender dysphoria as children or adolescents, to change their minds, occur in the debate. What is known about this should also be included in the review.
The Swedish Medical Products Agency – to analyse the off label prescription of puberty blockers and hormones to children and young people.
The National Board of Health and Welfare should be instructed to urgently update its knowledge support material entitled ´God vård av barn och ungdomar med könsdysfori´ (‘Good care for children and adolescents with gender dysphoria’).
Sweden National Board of Health and Welfare Update
The NBHW are revising their treatment guidelines, to be distributed for comments to organisations and the public during 2021 and finalised 2022.
Officially and to date, the National Board of Health and Welfare has only released a preliminary report on “The development of the diagnosis of gender dysphoria”: https://www.socialstyrelsen.se/globalassets/sharepoint-dokument/artikelkatalog/ovrigt/2020-2-6600.pdf
The summary conclusions from that report state:
“The diagnosis of gender dysphoria is increasing in the population, especially among children and young adults, where the proportion of new cases among 13– 17-year-old adolescents registered as female at birth has increased most. The increased rate of new cases will lead to an increasing total number of people diagnosed with gender dysphoria. In light of this, the development will require that health care is appropriately designed and sufficiently robust to ensure comprehensive investigation and treatment. In addition, treatment can be lifelong, which means that people with gender dysphoria need support from the healthcare system for extended time periods. People with gender dysphoria, especially young people, have a high incidence of co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses, self-harm behaviors, and suicide attempts compared to the general population. Co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses among people with gender dysphoria are therefore a factor that needs to be considered more closely during investigation. Suicide mortality rates are higher among people with gender dysphoria compared to the general population. At the same time, people with gender dysphoria who commit suicide have a very high rate of co-occurring serious psychiatric diagnoses, which in themselves sharply increase risks of suicide. Therefore, it is not possible to ascertain to what extent gender dysphoria alone contributes to suicide, since these psychiatric diagnoses often precede suicide.”
Swedish news coverage of this report also reports that “the authority’s survey shows that people with gender dysphoria, especially young people, have a high incidence of concomitant psychiatric diagnoses, self-harming behavior or suicide attempts compared with the rest of the population.” Further, “The diagnoses that stand out are depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD and autism.”
In the group of 13–17-year-old natal females, the Swedish NBHW report states that the comorbidity is greatest. In this unprecedented cohort of teenaged girls seeking gender transition the following co-morbidities were found:
32.4 percent anxiety disorder
28.9 percent some form of depressive disorder
19.4 percent ADHD
15.2 percent autism
The report also raises important questions about causation and suicide risk for people with gender dysphoria given the “very high rate of concomitant difficult psychiatric diagnosis”. This makes it difficult to distinguish one from the other with regard to suicide risk, said an investigator at the National Board of Health and Welfare.
Sweden’s Increase in Referrals to Gender Clinics Similar to Canada Sweden had seen a 1,500% increase in referrals for gender transition between 2008 and 2018 according to data from Sweden’s Board of Health and Welfare. The increase in Sweden is being driven by youth 13-17 years old born female. This trend is consistent with the data reported by Trans Youth Can! – a group running a voluntary observational study on youth who have been referred for puberty blockers and other hormone therapies in Canada.
Conclusions The fast-tracking of medical transition appears to be the protocol in place at many of Canada’s gender clinics, with parents and some detransitioners expressing surprise and shock that medical transition is being offered as the 1st line of treatment. The sharp drop-off in referrals in Sweden corresponded to the realization by parents and General Practitioners that sending children to a gender clinic would not necessarily provide them with additional assessment or services, but rather put them on a fast-track to puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
The experience in Sweden, and corresponding similarities in Canada, points to a significant gap in assessment and services for trans-identified youth to ensure that their long term physical and mental well-being is prioritized over and above a quick fix of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. Research indicates youth become trapped in a one-way medical path as almost 98% who are prescribed puberty blockers proceed with medical transition even when there is no evidence of long-term benefits.
Further, suicide risk is often used as the rationale for easy access to medical transition for trans-identified children and adults. Pro-transition advocates consider the need for assessments and screening to be dehumanizing and unnecessary. Clearly, the data from the Swedish NBHW does not support this position. People who commit suicide have an underlying mental illness that requires expert treatment and care. It would be medically negligent to avoid psychiatric assessment and/or deny corresponding psychological services to provide treatment for this population where the risk of suicide is elevated due to these comorbidities.
It will be very interesting to see how the official clinical guidelines in Sweden take shape and evolve over the next 2 years.

Could you do books that the scps might read?
Books that the SCPs might read
SCP 035 Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins Anna is shipped off to boarding school in Paris where she meets the super-charming Etienne, and that's when things get interesting. I was a squealing, giggly, mush-fest all the while through reading this book. Stephanie Perkins knows just how to turn a seemingly ordinary love story into an unputdownable read. SCP 040 Your Brain Needs a Hug: Life, Love, Mental Health, and Sandwiches Just the title of this book by Rae Earl makes us feel a little lighter. And we don’t know about you, but our brains could definitely use a hug right now. While the book is geared towards teens, we found Earl’s advice to be relevant for all ages — particularly for anyone who struggles with depression, anxiety, social media addiction, and self-esteem issues. TBH, pretty much anyone can benefit from this book! SCP 049 And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini And the Mountains Echoed is such an amazing and heartwarming read. It's about a pair of siblings that fate cruelly separates and then finally reunites. A must-read for its simple yet gripping narration and amiable characters. SCP 049-j The Red Notebook by Antoine Laurain This is a French romance novella, and basically a love letter to book lovers. There's mystery, romance, and some of the most beautifully crafted sentences and paragraphs I have ever read. The ending is so sweet, even though you wonder how you ever got there so soon. SCP 053 Lulu and the Rabbit Next Door by Hilary McKay Lulu and her cousin help their neighbor Arthur learn to love and care for his (neglected) rabbit. She doesn’t want her neighbor to feel bad so she writes the rabbit little notes with helpful gifts signed from her own pet rabbit named Thumper. It’s a kind way to show Arthur how to take care of his new pet SCP 073 HumanKind: Changing the World One Small Act At a Time Looking for heart-warming stories of kindness and compassion? HumanKind by Brad Aronson was made for you. But the book isn’t only full of uplifting stories that will move you to happy tears, it’s also packed with practical and actionable tips for how to be kinder in your everyday. One thing is for sure: after you put this book down, you’ll feel inspired to do something nice for someone else. And because of that, we think this is one of the best books on the planet! SCP 076 Do Unto Animals We absolutely DEVOURED this book by Tracey Stewart. Whether you’re looking for tips on how to better understand skunks and squirrels or read your pet’s body language, every page is full of compassionate wisdom about to treat animals in a way that they deserve. Also, the illustrations are absolutely beautiful — we nearly wanted to pet the pages because the animal drawings were so lovable. SCP 079 Walden (Henry David Thoreau) With the outdoorsman renaissance happening as we speak, it is nice to look back at one of the books that probably started it. Walden isn’t the bore you read back in middle school, it takes time to appreciate like a nice bottle of red. Thoreau’s masterpiece tackles so much while quietly nudging your brain into activity. It also makes you want to build a cabin SCP 096 Black Beauty by Anna Sewell Told from the perspective of the horse, this story is so beautifully written that it's easy to get lost in it's pages. I laughed and cried, as did my daughter when she read it. SCP 105 Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury Warm and fuzzy the whole way through, Dandelion Wine is by far the best story to make you feel good. Though I'm not the correct age to directly relate to the young adult story, I still felt the warm summer days and the wonder of it all. SCP 106 Catch-22 – Joseph Heller “War is hell,” is the old adage we all know, but Catch-22 looks to modify that a bit. Instead, war becomes super goddamn weird. The book follows a bomber squadron in the Second World War whose collective sanity is slowly being eroded by whatever passes for power. Throughout it all, the main character keeps trying to prove himself insane enough to be kicked out of the Navy, which is precisely why he can’t
be kicked out. Which is a catch 22 and yes, this is where the phrase comes from. It’s a great extrapolation of quirks and idiosyncrasies we see in day to day life, only this time, they’re affecting war SCP 134 (I know she don't have eyes . But there is a books for blind people) A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass A Mango-Shaped Space is about a 13-year-old girl with synesthesia (she can see, taste, and hear colors) and her journey in getting a diagnosis and accepting herself and all her differences. It's sort of a coming-of-age story, too. As someone with multiple chronic illnesses who has gone through the same process at the same age, this really was an incredible reading experience. One of my favorite quotes is "We all do the best we can, trying to keep all the balls in the air at once." I recommend it to everyone. SCP 173 Rabbit, Run (John Updike) The greatest mid-life crisis novel of all time doesn’t actually deal with a mid-life crisis at all. Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom is 26 when he decides to leave his wife and son for a new life. Of course, what that new life is, and what exactly he wants out of it isn’t clear to the reader or to Rabbit himself. It will strike a cord with all men who struggle with the idea of settling down. SCP 239 The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling SCP 682 THE WOLF AND THE WATCHMAN BY NIKLAS NATT OCH DAG If you're the kind of person that can't get enough of Scandi noir films, TV shows and literature, then Niklas Natt och Dag's The Wolf And The Watchman should be next on your reading list. Set in 18th-century Stockholm, this tale is as dark as it gets, following the titular watchman and a detective as they hunt down the killer behind a dismembered corpse that appears in a local pond. As gruesome as it is gripping, it's the perfect literary companion as the nights get longer and increasingly eerie. SCP 847 The Case Against Satan by Ray Russell Two priests are called in to examine a girl who might be possessed by the devil. The Exorcist, right? Nope, it’s Ray Russell‘s The Case Against Satan, a novel of theological horror that beat William Peter Blatty’s book to print by eight years. The Case Against Satan is as much the story of a crisis of faith as it is a supernatural tale, and readers looking for a nuanced take on both should give it a try SCP 953 THE PILLOW BOOK BY SEI SHŌNAGON If you want to learn a bit more about the Japan of the past – and also, weirdly, all of us in the present – The Pillow Book is a cult classic you should absolutely try. Sei Shōnagon was a lady-in-waiting in the court of Empress Teishi in the year 1000 and here she collects her thoughts and musings about court life. To read a woman more than 1,000 years ago being as philosophical, neurotic and scandalous as anyone is today on social media is a thrill that lasts from the start to the end. SCP 1678 Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden Absolutely moving, the struggles Sayuri faces are painted so beautifully by Arthur Golden's masterful craft that you totally empathize with her as she grows and triumphs in a world designed to see her fail. The ultimate conclusion of the novel fills me with such warmth — it's both entirely unexpected and wholeheartedly appreciated.
