The world is divided into two—the “normal humans” and the “powered humans”; people with mutations and abilities that put them above the rest.

It is unknown how the powered humans came to be but it started, one day, when a baby was born with gills on his neck—Case Zero. As the boy grew, so did his mutations—his hands and feet became webbed and it became clear how the boy was born to be in the water.

The next one was a girl—Case One, who was born with wings on her back, which only grew larger as she grew older. Soon, her wings grew so large it dragged on the floor. In a matter of years, her ability to fly and speed became even greater than planes and jets. A girl born to be in the skies.

What started with a baby every few months soon became a baby every month, to a baby every other week to a baby every week.

Today, 1 powered baby is born every 100,000 babies.

With the increasing number of powered humans, the governments of the world decided to implement the Powered Registration Act which aims to, as with normal human beings, register and regulate the powered humans. In line with the Act, the governments of the world created the PHSO - Powered Humans Statistics Office, the governing body solely for the powered humans, led by powered humans for powered humans.

With the emergence of the powered humans, a new occupation is created-heroes.

Registered and regulated by the government, heroes are employed by the PHSO to maintain order and peace while working together with the non-powered force.

Of course, when there are heroes, there are villains—powered and non-powered alike who do not agree with what they call “hero worship” given to heroes.

A never ending cycle of fights between good and evil, peace and chaos which span decades. Nothing new.

Of course, all of these do not concern you. You are not a hero nor are you a villain.

You are a barista with your own café in Sinagtala City.

The Best Friend 

Miguel Rivera [28 years old, he/him][ro]

— your best friend since childhood, Miguel is a constant presence in your life, the one person who has been with you through everything; from childhood quarrels with bullies to the death of your father. Miguel was the first person to come in during your opening day and has been your #1 supporter from day 1.

— going by the hero name “Torch,” Miguel has the ability to control and produce fire, able to use it for short-distance flight, shoot fireballs as well as turn his whole body aflame for a short period of time. 

— tall, at 188cm, with a muscular build (but not bodybuilder muscles) from years of training. Brown (kayumanggi) skin, black, wavy hair that reaches his ears and light brown eyes. All of Miguel’s clothes are made from a special thread created from his hair to ensure their resistance to his fire.

The Regular

Kahel [26 years old, they/them][ro]

— a regular customer, Kahel is one of your first customers. They’ve been coming to your cafe for the past 5 years almost daily, with no fail. Through the years, the two of you have formed a friendship. Despite your years of knowing them, you know almost nothing about Kahel’s past and what they actually do for work (they told you they’re a ‘writer’). You don’t know Kahel’s abilities, only that they have physical mutations.

— average height, at 170cm, with a thin build. Pale skin with long, straight hair they keep to their lower back and tied into a braid. Kahel often changes the color of their hair, so often, you don’t know their real hair color. Their eyes are a light gray, and their ears are pointed, like an elf’s ears.

The Captain

Cristina Solomon [34 years old, she/her][ro]

— the captain of the Sinagtala Police Force, Cristina is tasked in ensuring the peace and safety of the inhabitants of Sinagtala City. The youngest to ever hold the position of captain, Cristina holds deep confidence in her abilities and in the pride her colleagues have of her. In her 2 years since becoming captain, the number of crimes have decreased even further, to the point that other cities have called on her expertise and guidance.

— Cristina has the ability to produce shields and force fields which are able to withstand even a direct hit from a bomb. Cristina possesses amazing control of her abilities, even using them for maneuvering. Although powerful, the more shields she produces, the weaker they get until they’re barely stronger than a glass panel.

— tall height, at 178cm, with a thin but muscled build because of her training as a police officer. Brown (kayumanggi) skin and short, straight, dark brown hair she keeps in a bob, stopping just above her jaw. Cristina has dark, almost black, brown eyes and a beauty mark under her left eye.

The Part-timer

Lib Santos [20 years old, they/them]

— a college student who works part time for you. they’re very happy to work for your cafe because it’s the only one they applied to that’s able to accommodate their schedule. They’re able to attract small objects to themself, an ability they use in working.

— short, at 150cm, with a round build. Brown (kayumanggi) skin with freckles on their face. Round glasses hide their dark brown eyes. Their hair is short, a pixie cut, and dyed a light blue.

The Mayor

Penelope Pascual [45 years old, she/her]

— Sinagtala City’s mayor. Unlike past mayors that were personally chosen by Sinag, Penelope was voted for by the public. A well-known figure in the city, it was only a matter of time before Penelope was voted mayor. Penelope is able to control and manipulate air. She mainly uses it to allow herself flight while patrolling the city.

— tall, at 175cm, with a curvy build. Tan skin accentuated by her light brown eyes and long, straight dark brown hair usually tied in its tight bun.

✉ progress update—march 25, 2024

Good day! I'm here today to give you a progress update. This probably won't be a weekly thing because I can't promise I'll be able to do it weekly 😅. I'll probably do one everytime there's significant progress.

In terms of writing, I'm only a thousand words in for the main portion of the prologue, tho I do have a bit written to be added onto it.

I've also fixed the UI, well, I just used the one I used in POTO and changed a few things.

Well, I guess that's everything.

Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

hello! thank you for the ask! first of all, i'm sorry for the super, super late response. this is from april of last year.

Miguel: he's the biggest hugger! always finding reasons, even little reasons to hug someone. Miguel's hugs are always warm and filled with affection. and he always, always, makes sure to be the last one to let go.

Kahel: they're not a hugger. they're more of a hand-on-the-shoulders or a hand-around-the-waist kind of person. BUT! they're not one to reject a hug, even if they hide behind their teasing, they appreciate it. they will never initiate a hug, but they'll lean into it if hugged.

Cristina: she's not a hugger. even if she's hugged, she'll awkwardly wrap her arms around the other person and pat them before stepping away. it's not in Cristina's personality to be generous with physical affection. the most she'll do is lean on someone's shoulder (someone she's extremely close with)

Miguel: if there's one thing Miguel is, it's gentle. he knows just how much words and actions can hurt which is why he makes sure to be as gentle as possible.

Kahel: in the same way, Kahel also knows just how much words can hurt a person. they may tease and play around, but they make sure not to cross lines that should not be crossed.

Cristina: Cristina knows her words can come across as cold and mean and although she tries her best not to, she knows that her job and position can't allow her to be gentle at all times.

Miguel: Miguel is extremely patient. he doesn't get angry immediately and doesn't really show his anger. there's only a few things that could anger him. he only shows his anger when fighting villains at work.

Kahel: Kahel isn't exactly patient but they're also not impatient. it's more like, they don't get angry because they don't take things seriously. at least, it appears that way.

Cristina: Cristina is patient. however, incompetence ticks her off so much. Cristina usually only gets angry at work. she's the silent-anger type. you won't see her angry, but you'll know she is.

Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Miguel: Miguel definitely wants to settle down, being a date-to-marry kind of guy. he can imagine himself one day settling down with his partner, surrounded by his family. he's a great cook and cleans well.

Kahel: Kahel is not the marriage type but they would settle down and 100% commit to their partner, just without rings. they can't cook and clean, usually hiring people to clean their house.

Cristina: Cristina can see herself settling down one day, with her partner, spending the rest of their lives together. she's an ok cook, enough for her food to be edible but she's amazing in keeping the house.

Miguel: Miguel is a cuddler! he loves to have his partner in his arms, whether on the bed, or just lounging on the couch. he initiates and reciprocates cuddles.

Kahel: they'd love to cuddle but they would never be the one to initiate it, at least not directly. they'd show little signs that they want to cuddle.

Cristina: Cristina won't be the one to initiate but she'd love to cuddle, hug, hold hands, any and all forms of physical contact between her and her partner, she'd love.

i'm glad you like the concept! tho MC isn't exactly an average joe person. they're not OP (none of the characters are. some may be better than others but they all have limitations and weaknesses. similar to how the quirks in MHA works). MC's main goal is to return (or maintain) their regular life. in the end, they're a reluctant (or not) participant in whatever is happening.

Miguel: the boy's so full of love, it would appear as if he'd explode if he didn't show it. Miguel shows his affection through his actions. you want water? there's already a glass ready. you need someone to pet sit? Miguel's already with the pet.

Kahel: they're not really someone who's very affectionate but if they're fond of you, you'll know. they'll shower you with gifts, but all practical and things you'd use. their teasing and flirting also rises a notch.

Cristina: Cristina is not a very affectionate person. she's awkward at best. she'll try her best to show it by spending time with her partner. Cristina is an amazing listener and has amazing memory so she'll remember even the little things.

What are their thoughts about marriage and kids?

Miguel: Miguel would love to build a family with his partner and because he loves kids, he'd love to have kids of his own. should his partner not want to have kids, he'll respect their decision (especially if his partner is able to give birth). Miguel is a date-to-marry kind of guy.

Kahel: marriage and kids, they're not exactly something in Kahel's books. marriage would be a 'maybe' if they're 100% sure with their partner but kids are a different thing. for reasons, Kahel doesn't want to have kids and they need a partner who understands that. IF, their partner really, really wants to have a kid, Kahel MIGHT get persuaded to adopt, but they'd never sire a child, for, again, reasons.

Cristina: Cristina believes she'd get married one day, that's for sure. having children though, will be a whole different conversation. Cristina believes she won't be a good mother because of how busy she is. she does not want to have a child, only to not be around. she is open to have children one day though, even though she's hesitant.

Miguel: once he's in a relationship, Miguel would want to be with his partner all the time. of course, that won't be possible because as a hero, he has responsibilities but it will be very obvious (at least to those who know that he's in a relationship) that he greatly misses his partner. he'll send them messages and call them whenever possible. if, for some reason, his partner has to leave for an extended amount of time, he'd ask them to update him whenever possible. he'd also be a lot gloomier during the time they're gone.

Kahel: Kahel simply won't miss their partner because he's simply right there. if, by chance their partner has to leave for an extended amount of time, you can trust that Kahel would go with them. if there's two things Kahel has a lot of, it's time and money. they won't be around their partner at all times, especially if they're away because of work, but you'd best believe that at night, Kahel will be waiting. their partner is free to do what they have to do during the daytime, but at night, it's Kahel's time.

Cristina: Cristina herself is a very busy person. at work, their mind only revolves around work. nothing else. it's usually the other way around, there her partner is the one who misses her. if, by chance her partner has to leave for an extended amount of time, then that's when Cristina shows she misses them, at least in the privacy of her own home. she goes home at 5PM sharp (if possible) and video calls her partner. she'll leave it on while she goes and does her chores at home, only turning it off once they're ready for bed (or not, if her partner wants to keep it on).

i had to let this one sit for a while.

Miguel: the most important for a partner for Miguel is communication. he wants a partner he could speak to, someone who'd listen and understand in the same way he'd listen and understand. someone who gives him the silent treatment during an argument is a pretty big no because it shows him that the other party is not willing to work through their problem. he'd understand though, if the other party just wants a moment to themself, as long as they'd be ready to speak to him after.

Kahel: what Kahel looks for in a serious romantic partner is someone who won't hold prejudice over them. someone who'd trust them wholeheartedly and would not judge them. everything they do, they do for a reason, a reason they need their partner to understand. trust is the biggest thing for Kahel, and they don't readily give it. which is why, once they've given you their trust, they expect you to uphold it.

Cristina: Cristina is a very busy person. her time is divided between the station, business trips to other cities and keeping up with other matters. despite this, she does make a point to be there and spend time with her partner. her actually taking the time out of her very busy schedule to spend time with someone is already a huge showing of her feelings. what she looks for in a partner is someone who'd understand and not guilt her for being absent. her partner is very important to her, but they also need to understand that her work is important too. of course, they shouldn't bottle it in and should speak to her when she gets too engrossed on her work. understanding goes both ways after all.

none of them believe in love at first sight. they all believe love is something both parties develop after getting to know each other.

had to think on this for a while. it would really depend on the stage they are on the relationship.

Miguel: regardless of the stage of the relationship, whether early or deep into it, he would make the effort to fix the relationship. communication is key for Miguel and he believes everything can be resolved if both parties talk about it.

Kahel: it would depend on the stage of the relationship for them. if it was during the early stages of the relationship, Kahel would walk away. for them, if the relationship is already doomed from the start, then it won't last. if it was deep into the relationship, then they would do everything they can to fix it.

Cristina: early relationship, she'd try to fix it. if deep into the relationship, Cristina would stop and deeply think about everything. first, she'd try to fix the relationship but if the other party doesn't make the effort and if she sees that they're only hurting each other, then she'd leave.
