Hypothetical LOZ: OOT AU that is secretly (not so secretly) Homestuck fanfiction.
After Ganondorf's defeat, Dark Link ends up gaining his own sentience and independence and raising the next incarnation of the actual hero Link.
its about raising a child you know is better than you in every possible way
it's about looking up to someone despite knowing that they're deeply flawed
it's about hero-worshipping someone who considers themselves more of a monster than a hero.
It's about placing the expectations of a man on a small child, because you don't know how to do otherwise
it's about looking at the darkness and imagining that it's the sunshine

Ask Ganondorf!: The "About Page"
[[Welcome to "Ask Ganondorf", a Legend of Zelda-themed askblog formerly exclusive to Cohost! This is the post where I do a little promoting and explain a few things. This is the mod speaking; I hope you enjoy your visit here, and don't forget to leave a message before you go~!]]
[[Continue below the cut for more information...]]
[[This is an old-fashioned character askblog, the kind that was popular on here about a decade ago. Want to ask Ganondorf something? Go right ahead! You don't even need to be a LoZ fan. An askblog lives and dies by audience interaction, so when in doubt... just send whatever ask you want! Don't be scared of the idea that someone else may have already asked what's on your mind, anonymous asks are enabled in case you're feeling shy or private. I don't mind "spam like"s, comments, or reblogs, either. You can ask the mod (me) things as well if you really want! Lore, clarifications, headcanons, boundaries... though some things may be left vague until the point where you can get the information out of Ganondorf himself, heheh...]]
[[This askblog is migrating from Cohost because of Cohost shutting down at the end of 2024. I never got much following there, but Cohost's more lax content/artwork guidelines shall be sorely missed. I am going to gradually cross-post what asks I did manage to answer on the original Cohost edition; I shall also try and go through the unanswered asks I have left over in the Cohost inbox and answer them here, in kindness and sadness...]]
[[The desktop theme of this blog is currently under heavy construction. Be patient, an evil king's castle can't be built overnight~!]]
[[The "timeline" and exact time this blog takes place in is intentionally left vague, but is very much Ocarina of Time-inspired at least in terms of aesthetics. This may change as the blog evolves and builds more interactions. It's also quite headcanon-heavy (as it must be, since Ganondorf gets so little deeper exploration in canon...), so prepare for lots of fun with that! I'm also open to old RP/ask blog community staples such as magic anons, special events, prompts, themed starters, etc... Again, don't be too afraid to try sending messages yourself! One last thing to bear in mind, however...]]
[[I am NOT the character featured on this blog. Views expressed in-character are not necessarily shared or intended to be promotion.]]
[[Some content on this blog may become "dark" given the villainous focus. This askblog is not recommended for children and certain posts may be marked 18+. Please discern fiction from reality and avoid assuming malicious or dangerous authorial intent. Message me directly if you require clarification, triggers tagged, or content warnings applied.]]
[[All that said, have fun! This post may expand in the future to something like a FAQ, and will remain pinned until I create proper subpages.]]
[[As for all that you really need to know about me, the moderator, personally...]]

When does BoTW/ToTK take place?
It's a common debate that hasn't for certain been solved. Let's talk about it.
Zelda fans have been debating on where Breath of the Wild (and it's sequel, Tears of the Kingdom) takes place since the game came out.
If you're new to the Zelda universe and just started with Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, the timeline of the video game series takes place over millennia, and there are a lot of different branches with different outcomes branching out from one pivotal game, Ocarina of Time.
First releasing on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, Ocarina of Time revolutionized the Zelda universe. It won six awards at the second Annual Interactive Achievement Awards: Game of the Year, Console Game of the Year, Console Adventure Game of the Year, Console Role-Playing Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Design, and Outstanding Achievement in Software Engineering (and has since won many more). It was the first in the series to showcase 3D graphics, bringing with it a beautiful soundtrack that has stuck with players even 26 years later. It revolutionized combat mechanics with the introduction of Z-targeting, and was named the greatest video game of all time by numerous sources, and is the highest-ranking video game on MetaCritic. In 2011, it was re-released on the 3DS with better graphics and with the option to play in 3D. A more difficult version, Master Quest, was available on GameCube and the 3DS. Its sequel, Majora's Mask was also a game-changer, winning multiple awards in its own right.
Not only did Ocarina of Time completely change The Legend of Zelda's future installments, it introduced multiple timelines through Hyrulean History. Instead of looking at Zelda as a game franchise (we'll save that for a different post), let's talk about its fictional history.
In the 2011 book Hyrule Historia, Zelda fans were able to learn about the production process of their favorite games, including concept art and final designs. The book was released just about a month after Skyward Sword, another legendary game, to go with The Legend of Zelda's 25th anniversary. It included a lot of material on how Skyward Sword came about, focusing on the new game.
Before this book, fans had a vague idea of the history and timeline of The Legend of Zelda. Events were blurry and oftentimes confusing. For the first time, Zelda fans could visualize the entire Zelda history-- and were treated to a full historical rundown of each game and where it fits in.

Since the release of BoTW/ToTK, people are unsure of whether or not this timeline is still accurate. If it's not accurate, then we have no clear way of knowing what game comes when, or even if Skyward Sword is the first game.
[In another post, we'll go more in-depth on each game, its specific story, and its place in Hyrulean history. This post will only target BoTW/ToTK.]
So far, the game's creators have neither confirmed nor denied outright whether or not the timeline released in Hyrule Historia is still accurate, although they have confirmed that BoTW/ToTK take place after all previous games.

But which timeline?
We can try to find this out by looking at what Easter Eggs can be found in BoTW.

In the northern part of Hyrule Field is a small gathering of ruins just called "Ranch Ruins." Despite not being on a plateau, the ruins are nearly identical to Lon Lon Ranch in Ocarina of Time.
The quest A Fragmented Monument in BoTW features a stone effigy of what may be a reference to the Mirror of Twilight. Could Princess Zelda of the Twilight Era have erected it to honor Midna? Or could Link have? We may never know.
Probably the most iconic of Easter Eggs in BoTW is the first one you see when you leave the Shrine of Resurrection.

The Temple of Time has made appearances in multiple games, most notable being Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and now of course BoTW/ToTK.
This, along with many, many other Easter Eggs, have been found in BoTW/ToTK. A lot can be found from games in alternate timelines, but even in my own playthroughs, the majority of Easter Eggs and references come from Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess. Vah Rudania, Vah Ruta, and Vah Nabooris are named after Darunia, Ruto, and Nabooru from Ocarina of Time, three of the Seven Sages. Vah Medoh, however is named after Medli, the Sage of Earth from Wind Waker, which takes place in an alternate timeline from Twilight Princess.
You could take all of the references from all of the other games and debate about it for hours, but in the end you're still left with more questions than answers. Perhaps the creators of Zelda should have left the references timeline-specific.
When BoTW was first released, a common theory was that the game's timeline placement could be interpretive to the player. With the only requirement being that it had to take place at least 11,000 years after any other game, it left a lot of room to work with.
Now that it's confirmed that it took place after Ocarina of Time, that gives us three potential timelines.
In the timeline where the hero is defeated and the one where Link is successful but remains an adult, BoTW/ToTK would have to take place after all the other games in that timeline. This is due to there not being a large enough gap between games for the Great Calamity to occur 10,000 years before the story takes place. However, this means that the references for Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask are null and void, a mere coincidence since they never came to pass.
In the third timeline, Link returns to the Child Era and prevents Ganondorf from ever gaining power in the first place. He is thus sealed away in the Twilight Realm, and Link goes off to find his friend Navi, his fairy. A few centuries later, Twilight Princess takes place. After this is Four Swords Adventures, where Ganondorf returns yet again and Vaati is resurrected. If BoTW/ToTK takes place in this timeline, Hyrule would have had to been at peace for hundreds, if not thousands of years before the Great Calamity happened.
Another common theory is that it takes place in its own timeline, 11,000 years after Skyward Sword. This is a fascinating take, because it gives this version of Hyrule a relatively fresh slate and gives a good basis for Tears of the Kingdoms' Sky Isles (not to mention the numerous appearances from Fi). The references, Easter Eggs, and hidden meanings hinting at other games could simply be timelines bleeding into one another, signs that other timelines still exist but have not happened. Before the confirmation of it happening after Ocarina of Time, some theories suggested that it even preceded Skyward Sword, perhaps a prequel to the entirety of the series.
So what does this mean for the placement for BoTW/ToTK?
In conclusion, there hasn't really been any real, solid evidence to support a specific timeline after Ocarina of Time. The most likely outcome is that it takes place in the Child Era, since it most closely aligns to Ocarina of Time and its sequels.
Until the makers of the series give an official statement on when exactly it takes place in what timeline, we may never know the specifics. Maybe it's meant to be a mystery. Even with its odd placement, BoTW/ToTK makes a brilliant standalone game, and the lack of knowledge of when it happens definitely adds to its splendor.
Released in 2017, it completely overturned Zelda fans' idea of a traditional game. The first open-world Zelda game, it introduced an expansive new version of Hyrule chock full of secrets, hidden bosses, treasure chests, and Koroks. It introduced the flurry rush, fully customizable outfits, voice acting, different sets of tack for wild horses you could catch, and a massive range of dishes you could cook. Most notable of all changes is Link's hero tunic is now blue, an unexpected but welcome change to the traditional green outfit.
It has won numerous awards including Most Anticipated Game, Game of the Year, and many more. Its story alone has set it apart from other games, introducing one of the best storylines of the entire series and unforgettable characters. It's easily one of the best games in the entire franchise.
Next week, we'll discuss whether or not the The Legend of Zelda manga by Akira Himekawa are-- or should be-- considered directly canon to the games.
Have something you'd like to add? Reblog with your thoughts or submit an ask! If you'd like to join the tag list, you can submit an ask or request it directly on a post.

imo the most annoying thing about the zelda timeline is the fact that you can't even mention it casually without people crawling out of the woodwork to complain about it and tell you how they think they made the whole thing up on the spot to troll fans
like, i get it. it's silly to care all that much about where four swords or oracle of ages or whatever takes place in relation to the mainline games. the exact placement of the NES games is kinda arbitrary. it doesn't particularly matter. there has been lots of pointless nerd rage over these things. but literally every mainline zelda game since the '80s has been openly presented as a sequel or prequel to another previous game. lttp was called a prequel. skyward sword was always framed as the origin story. the opening of wind waker recounts the story of ocarina of time. they wouldn't keep doing things like this if the stories were never supposed to be connected at all, if they didn't think it mattered a little. it's easy to get lost in the weeds of the timeline stuff and overstate it's importance, but it's there
on the flip side, i actually do think breath of the wild's approach of saying that it's so many thousands of years in the future that all prior events are treated as legends containing some mixture of truth and fiction, with references to all three timeline branches to drive this ambiguity home, was really cool! that's a clever way to wipe the slate clean and simplify things without doing a full-blown reboot
but then totk is like "okay now let's talk about the imprisoning war and the founding of hyrule." and i go on twitter to wonder out loud what the game is trying to make me think about this. whether it's trying to do a big reveal about the imprisoning war that was referenced in previous games, or if this is all still just the story of a new version of hyrule in an era after all the old games had faded into legend. and i'm immediately inundated with replies saying the timeline is stupid, they made it all up for hyrule historia, they never should've published a timeline, OBVIOUSLY they've always just been doing unrelated retellings of the same legend, etc. etc. just for trying to engage with the story and figure out what it's trying to tell me in these lore dumps that the entire plot centers around. it's insufferable

What are your views on the Hyrule Royal Family? I’ve seen fans say that the system does more harm to Hyrule and wish for it to be dismantled. They go as far to say that Ganondorf & the Yiga are justified with their actions. Another reason is that real life monarchies have historically caused many atrocities, therefore the Hyrule royal family cannot be a force for good.
Personally, I don’t really care because it’s fictional and cannot harm you. I am not pro monarchist by any means but it’s fictional??? Hyrule doesn’t have to rule through conquest. While the Hyrule royals have committed bad acts, it probably isn’t as high nor common as the British Monarchy, who has colonizes a vast majority of the world. Another thing. Replacing a government won’t change the fact that Hyrule is still cursed. Shits going to go down no matter who’s running things. I’ve seen too many fans with this mindset getting rid of the monarchy will automatically fix everything.
Do you think the Hyrule Monarchy is the true problem and should it be abolished?
Ganondorf and the Yiga are not at all justified in their actions. Ganondorf burned Hyrule (and wrecked the Twilight Realm) and abandoned his own people when he got the Triforce of Power. The Yiga are trying to bring about destruction of the country, including their own kin via the Sheikah. Nothing justifies that.
Was their anger or their desires just/fair? Perhaps. The Yiga are holding on to a resentment from millennia ago, which does them no good, but the original reason for the anger, when it actually happened, is understandable. Ganondorf wanting to live somewhere better than the harshness of the desert, wanting a better life for himself, is a totally fair motivation. Deciding to take it to the nth degree by not only moving somewhere better but claiming that land and wanting to rule it, and doing so at the expense of everyone in it and the people he came from, however, is not.
Anyway, on to the actual main question lol, I don't mind the royal family. I enjoy the idea of people who are born into a certain duty and taking it seriously, people who wish to protect those under their care, and I love exploring all the emotional/political implications that come with it. Did the royal family make mistakes? Heck yes. All you have to do is look at the Yiga, at how Rhoam was so desperately trying to push Zelda, at what the Seikah of Ocarina of Time did in their shady past, at the ruins of Arbiter's Grounds in Twilight Princess, at the actions that got Zelda put into an eternal slumber in The Adventure of Link. Clearly they're not perfect. But they're people. No matter what system of government ruled Hyrule, it would be run by people, which means there could just as easily be despots in any other form. Some systems of government lend to a more fair system due to checks and balances, but that doesn't change the fact that power corrupts and bad people can get in place and do terrible things.
So yeah. I enjoy seeing the monarchy. It's fun to explore. I don't think it's the problem, in terms of the whole Ganon thing, that's a curse from a demon king, from a god of chaos and evil. A freaking monarchy ain't gonna change that LOL. If anything, it makes it easier to combat it - at least one Triforce wielder is in a position of power to protect Hyrule and has the education to recognize there being an issue and whatnot. Ganondorf's uprising from the Gerudo isn't necessarily the royal family continuing the curse by creating a villain - Demise just found someone to utilize. If not Ganondorf, it would be someone else.
That's my two cents, at least, at 4 in the morning, so hopefully it made sense.

I got questions!!
🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?
🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
🪲 ⇢ add 50 words to your current wip and share the paragraph here
🧩 ⇢ what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?
1- Oh my it was aaall the way back when Ocarina of Time came out, and I. was. obsessed. with this game. I was like 9? 10? I was already into gaming a lot but that game was my escape. When I completed the story I then set about absolutely 100%-ing everything, and even after that it still wasn't enough. I remember I was looking at Zelda websites on the family computer, trying to search for stuff I didn't already know about the game, when I stumbled upon a 'fan-fiction' tab. Started reading one, didn't understand, was this official? No way. And then, oh, oh okay, people were writing what they thought would happen next, if the game hadn't ended!
Big revelation moment lmao. That was when I started carrying a notebook everywhere I went, taking notes, writing chapters by hand etc. A whole new wooooorld!
2- It's honestly hard because any type of comment makes my day! 🥺from the lengthy analysis ones to the iconic keyboard smash lmao so hmmm... I'd say it tickles me pink when I receive comments that are a little unhinged 😂Like I can feel the reader's excitement through the words hahaha
3- Oooh that is evil AND a great way to get me to write and stop procrastinating actually! 😆
''Rinoa practically flung herself off of Squall and the bed, scrambling drunkenly towards the bathroom, a string of 'no no no no no' escaping her lips. Squall only had a couple of seconds of utter confusion before his brain registered the unmistakable sounds of earlier bad decisions, echoing in the toilet bowl.''
😂😂 oh no.
4- What immediately popped up in my mind was 'a lack of formatting' lmao!! There are a few things like specific tropes or POVs that I'm not super fond of in fics as a matter of personal taste but will power through if the fic is interesting... but if I open a fic and am greeted with a giant wall of text I'm noping the fuck out of there. 😂
Thank you for the ask!! <3

Director’s commentary on Somebody That I Used to Know!! If you need/ want a specific chapter - rituals.
Ah, B, thank you! This story experienced a revival in the last few weeks because a friend was inspired by it and now toys with writing a sequel to it which makes me very happy.
A common trope in OoT fics is Link leaving for searching Navi and coming back in the middle of a ball several years later to sweep the ever waiting Zelda of her feet. It makes for a cute little scene, but after reading a couple of interpretations of it, my mind went down the 'and what if he doesn't?' road.
So I started thinking about Zelda waiting for him to fulfill his promise of coming back and he just... doesn't. What would she do after five years, after ten years, after thirty years? A why wouldn't he keep a promise? What would make him break it?
When I had the idea, I didn't plan doing anything with it anytime soon. I have quite some fic ideas like this: some hastily notes thrown together and saved on my discord server, waiting for the right moment to come. And then, @zelinkcommunity published the prompts for zelink week 2022 and the story fit so perfectly, that I dropped everything and started writing.
I usually write lighthearted stories. They have some angst to keep the plot going, yes, but overall they don't cut too deep. That's mostly because fandom is escapism for me and I want to have fun. This one is different and it was interesting to explore what I'm capable of in the right setting.
I wanted to show how having lived through half of their lives already affected Link and Zelda after all the trauma they went through. We see a lot of exploring the immediate effects of the games in fan fiction, but stories about how they affect the big and smaller life decisions are rare. And that's where the fun for me began: To work out how complicated life is. To show there's no easy answer to why Link didn't come back. To highlight that Zelda was a terrible queen because she projected her anxiety on her reign.
The story only gets Kudos every few weeks, because it's probably nothing most people in fandom search out nowadays, but if I have a super long comment in my inbox, it's usually for this one. Maybe it's the mature approach to OoT's tragedy or the respect for complicated characters and feelings, but something about the story resonates strongly with the people who read it. And I'm very happy and thankful about that.
My favorite scene from 'Rituals' is this here:
He fell silent, digging the tip of his boot into the hard soil around the fire. It took an eternity for him to look up again and when he did, his gaze was cold. It was the first time that she thought the missing eye made his face a tad harsh.
"So instead of a hard-earned happy ending for us, you managed to create a version where I'm gone, one where I end up here, and one where I'm killed. Eh, good work, I'd say."
Zelda drew a shaky breath. "Would you even have wanted a happy ending for us?" The words toppled from her mouth before she could quell the bitterness in them.
His gaze snapped away.
"I didn't know that I would create different realities, Link," she continued, her voice now purposely soft. "We thought it was safe. I just… it wasn't your fault that you got dragged into all this and I wanted to give you the chance to live a normal life."
"I'm an orphan raised by a tree, Zelda. I never had the chance for a normal life." When she shifted on her seat, he buried his hands in his hair. "Sorry. I know you meant well. It's not that you choose to be part of all this either. It's just… this one moment was maybe the only one where we had a choice. And you made it for me."
Zelda couldn't tear her gaze from the way his hands dropped listlessly back into his lap. How had she never considered this? All he had wanted was to choose his own future.
"I'm sorry," she pressed out, and it didn't matter if she stole this choice from him or the other Zelda.
His hand darted to hers, squeezed, and was gone again. "It is what it is."

Are there any media – games, books, movies, music etc. – that you loved as a child, that you can say shaped who you are as an adult?
Hard mode: you can't pick "Kingdom Hearts".
I was raised by my nan - I'd spend every single day helping her out around her house, working in her garden, cooking together, doing my homework, and then sitting with her and playing games; I would play and she would watch. For the most part it was N64-Gamecube era games. Things like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Wind Waker, and Sonic Adventure 2s Chao Garden were favourites for both of us, games that were chill and comfy and laid back, bright and colourful but had a nice sense of responsibility and progression. I remember very fondly the way that my nan would always like how the horses hooves sounded in HM:AWL and even though you said that I can't pick KH, she was the one who got me KH2 and watched me explore through it countless times. Banjo-Kazooie, Pokemon Snap, and Ocarina Of Time were also played a lot, and I hold them all very close to my heart haha. I still very much enjoy games designed to be relaxing, I love me some farm sims and I tend to get attached to specific characters regardless of their original media.
In terms of books, I am a big fan of Junji Ito's work, I have quite a few graphic novels and a collection of books, and growing up I was a very avid reader in general. I have a signed autograph from Micheal Morpurgo somewhere from when I was very young. I don't read as much as I used to to be honest, especially fiction, but that's because I spend so much time writing that I worry a lot about accidentally absorbing other people's ideas or words and stuff through reading :p Ito's structure and overarching sense of scale are super interesting to me and I really love how detailed and foreboding his work always is - and that despite being one of the biggest horror mangakas of all time he's actually just a sweet and chill little catdad guy lmaoooo
my taste in music and movies is so jacked, dude. I have the most bizarre sense of taste imaginable. I love terrible awful movies. I'm a big fan of monster movies, quite a lot of foreign films, shlocky action lmao; I have a degree in animation and enjoy a lot of art movies and character studies. I did my third year dissertation in how body horror in media is portrayed differently depending on its country of origin and I have a lot of passion for movies in general, I love discussing practical vs special effects, exploring background details and plot contingencies, character motivations etc. I do weekly movie nights with my chat and its my fave time of the week! I've always liked weird movies and I always end up going back to my faves

Echoes of the Past, Legend of Zelda BotW-TotK fan-fiction.
Contains some spoilers. Part One
Part Two: Master Sword little doodle to include for this chapter,

Josha sat at a desk, examining the ocarina closely. A small crack ran down the triforce plate that ran around the mouthpiece. Purah lifted up a piece of the Ocarina shard that chipped off in her hand, upon touch. “It seems that it didn’t spend all its time underwater, but the damage doesn’t exactly match that of being trapped underwater either. Josha, have you any luck with any further examinations?”
“Only conclusions I can make upon a close look, besides the bits that broke in your hand, and with the mouthpiece like it is. It’s hard for me to think this Ocarina was close to being playable.”
“Hmm…” Purah placed the shard down, wrapped in a clean cloth. “Then the question remains, where was that melody coming from?”
“Maybe with the flow of the water going through the ocarina?” Purah sighed.
“It’s unlikely that is the case, as we wouldn’t be able to hear it otherwise.” Walking towards her young student, Purah looked closer at the instrument. Lifting it up in her hands for closer examination. Zelda swung open the door, her face was covered in the look of curiosity. “Ah, right on time. Tell me, Princess, how was the dive?”
“It was stupendous, but please let me see it!” She walked over, lifting the instrument in her hand.
“Do you recognize it, Princess?” Purah watched as she held the instrument in her hand. Glancing it over, turning it as she noticed the triforce symbol.
“I can’t say for certain that I do…” Upon his arrival, Link noticed Zelda holding the ocarina. “However it is quite strange that this Ocarina has the logo of the triforce…” Glancing down at her hand, recalling the same symbol appearing once before.
Walking over towards her, Zelda handed the Ocarina towards Link. He glanced over the instrument, noticing the few cracks that ran along the edges. “Go on Linky, might as well hold it.” Purah smiled as she lifted up the cracked piece. “From the looks of it, it won’t be able to play any melodies though.”
“It can’t play?” Zelda looked at her, before rushing over to glance at the broken fragment. Link lifted up the instrument, turning it around before feeling the urge to play. Lifting the broken mouthpiece up to his lips, he slowly started to move his fingers to play a note. With a light note gently whispering from the ocarina, Link felt a buzz of energy fill him. Purah and Zelda, hearing the melody, turned in surprise, “D-Did it just play?” Zelda asked Link.
Before he could respond, a gentle light shined bright from the Ocarina. With the cracks slowly fading, Purah's shard remained untouched. Surprise covered Link’s face as the Ocarina returned itself back to its original state.
“That glow…it’s like when the master sword spoke.” Zelda walked over, running a hand over the instrument once more. Feeling the place that used to be riddled with cracks. Meeting his eyes, understanding her concern for the connection between the instrument and the master sword. “We must pay the Great Deku tree a visit about this, Link.”
“What are you thinking of, if you don’t mind me asking, Princess?” Josha looked at Zelda, trying to glance at the Ocarina. “Do you think there might be a connection between the sword and this Ocarina?”
“I can’t quite say for certain, but it’s best we investigate to be on the safe side.” She smiled, trying to ease the worries of the young scholar. “Besides, I’ve been meaning to visit the Great Deku tree for awhile now.” Turning her attention back to Link, returning the ocarina back into his hands. “Until then, I would like to have Link hold onto it for the time being.”
Nodding his head in agreement, Purah handed Link a special design pouch. “Well, Linky, to make sure you don’t lose it. I’ll give you this holster that I used when I was smaller to carry my flute around..” Link grasped the holster from her hand, snapping it into place on his hip. Placing the ocarina perfectly on his hip. “It looks good on you, Linky.”
Purah waved both Link and Zelda off as they started their journey to the lost woods, with her riding on a golden coat horse. One saved by Link during his travels after the upheaval. Naming the horse ‘Zelli’, with the combination of both his and Zelda’s names. Zelda cherished Zelli more so since her return after the final battle. With her placing a silent princess in the braiding of her mane. Link watched on his stead Petal, a horse with specks of pink covering her body. A horse he saved from a band of Moblins after the upheaval, with the horse following after him since. With the clomping of their horses echoed across the stone roads towards the forest, Hudson construction workers could be seen clearing the ruins of Castle town. With the events of the battle with Ancient Ganondorf passed, Zelda started to feel peace slowly settling into the kingdom.
Woodland stable slowly came into view, outside the stable playing their song was the Stable Trotters. A small gathering of travelers sat watching the performers, as the conductor continued his dance in front of his musicians. Slowing their speed, Zelda looked over towards them. Taking in the melody as she turned to Link. “It would be nice if you could use the Ocarina to join them, Link.”
Link glanced at her and then the Ocarina. He wasn’t skilled in playing such an instrument, but when he held it. A familiar feeling comes over him as he plays, with the gentle music flowing from the Ocarina. Horses from the stable started to neigh in joy as the melody continued, catching the attention of the Stable owner. Many of the cuccos rushed towards Link, crowing along with his melody. Zelda watched as Link pulled the ocarina away, with the cuccos circling around Petal. He glanced at her as she giggled, mostly in awe for the look across Link’s face. Petal stomped her hoof down, scaring away the cuccos.
Zelda’s curiosity for the power of the Ocarina continued to grow as they reached the lost woods. Fog still stretched around the old ruins that rested at the entrance of the woods. Helping those that can see him, Hetsu stood shaking his maracas while dancing upon their approach. Joy could be seen on his face as he turned to them. “Princess!”
“It’s good to see you, Hetsu. I do hope you are well.” She smiled as both her and Link dismounted their horses. Entrusting the reins to a nearby Korok that dashed from behind Hetsu. “How is the Great Deku tree? We’ve come to retrieve the Master sword from him once more.”
“Oh no! I hope that doesn’t mean…” Zelda cut him off before he said anymore.
“Oh no, we are investigating this Instrument and it has some similarities to that of the master sword. We were wanting to just see if there's any relation between the two.” Hetsu’s face started to calm as he shook his maracas slowly.
“Oh I see now, that is indeed good to hear!” He twirled into the fog, shaking his maracas clearing the smoke. Making a path through the fog towards the Koroks forest. “Please follow me!”
Leading the way, Link and Zelda headed into the forest. With most of the fog pushing itself to clear a way, some bleed along the trim of the path. Twirling fans could be heard as they walked deeper into the forest. Many Koroks popped their heads from behind tree branches. Upon passing through the fallen log that served as a bridge. Both of them were met with the Deku tree, soundly asleep with the master sword resting in front of him. Zelda walked up to the blade alongside Link. Grasping the blade in his hands once more, he pulled the blade from its slumber. Fulfilling its duty, the duo placed the blade to rest by the Deku tree after the battle with the ancient Ganondorf. However as the blade rested in his hands, Zelda’s attention turned to the ocarina. Watching for any reaction from Link holding the blade.
“Hmm, it would seem that there isn’t any reaction at all with the two.” Zelda, puzzled, placed her chin in her hand. Stroking her chin with her forefinger as she tried to ponder the ocarina’s reaction to Link. With a loud yawn, she looked over to see the Deku tree. Slowly awakening from his short nap.
Glancing down at the two, he lightly chuckled. “It is always most welcoming to see you two. What brings you to visit me and the sword of evil’s bane, Princess?” Glancing over at Link as he held the blade firmly in his hand. “I do not sense any looming Malice that requires for the blade to awaken just yet, but yet you still call for it?”
“My apologies for disturbing your slumber, Great Deku tree.” Zelda looked over at Link, placing the master blade on his back. Within the blade’s sheath, handed to Link from one of the Koroks. With the ocarina on his hip as he turned, catching the Deku tree’s attention. Zelda continued, “We’ve only come to investigate the blade with the Ocarina that was discovered.”
“Ocarina you say? Hmm…” He paused for a moment, glancing at Link. “Before you take the blade, might I request to examine this Ocarina myself?”
“Why of course, Great Deku tree.” Zelda looked over at Link, as he pulled the Ocarina from the holster on his hip. With the instrument to his lips, he began to play a similar melody from the stable. Despite enjoying the melody, the Great Deku tree felt a sense of uneasiness as he listened. With an old memory hitting him, causing sap to drift from his eyes. Zelda, upon noticing, motioned Link to stop playing. “Are you alright, Great Deku tree?”
“Do not fret, Princess…” Taking a moment to calm himself, the ancient tree glanced down on Link. “I must thank you princess, as the melody allowed me to recall a most pleasant memory. Maybe this memory would be of use to you, but alas only if you would like to hear.”
“It would be an honor to hear one of your life tales, Great Deku tree.” Link nodded his head in agreement. Glancing at the two, the Deku tree felt a familiar sensation as he recalled his memory brought by the melody of the Ocarina.
“Ah yes, I remember it was around the time when I was merely a sprout.” He chuckled softly, remembering his roots scarcely smaller than what they were in his current state. Despite this he remembered the forest he was born in was much different that the Korok Forest they currently reside in. “Although I do not know of my predecessor, whom I was born after his demise, I do recall hearing a lovely song. One that was created by a Kokiri before I granted them the ability to change into their form of today.” Zelda and Link sat on the log on top of the Great Deku tree’s root as he continued to speak.”However I remember one of these young Kokiri, but only one came and took me away. As a war was brewing to capture a tyrant of the kingdom that sought after the triforce. An ancient artifact older than the stone you carry around your neck, Princess.”
Zelda pressed her hand against her secret stone, once held by the first king of Hyrule.
“I’ve only recalled this Kokiri carrying an Ocarina of similar design to the one currently in your possession, Link.” Link glanced over the Ocarina, while Zelda continued to listen. “Although I do not know the origins of this instrument, something tells me that it holds a deeper story than those told in legends, Princess. I do hope that my memory serves you well in your investigation.” He smiled at her. “I do hope that you come and play for me some more, Link.”
He nodded his head at him.
“Thank you for sharing the memory with us, Great Deku tree.” Zelda smiled as she glanced at the Ocarina. “Interesting, that something from a time long passed had found its way here. I do wonder what the history this instrument holds…”
“I’m sure in time, the answer to your question will be answered, Princess.” Zelda smiled at the Deku tree as he spoke, before the duo left the forest.

Meet the Writer Tag
I was tagged by @filmografo
Rules: Use this picrew to make yourself and answer these questions.
Three fun facts about me:
I am a HUUUUUUGE Pirates of the Caribbean fan. Both the Disneyland ride and the trilogy. You know, the 3 movies they made because they definitely didn't make more than 3. I know an ungodly amount of trivia about it and will easily talk your ear off if you so much as think about pirates in my direction. Also, this year I realized my dream of getting to sail on the Lady Washington, the real life brig that portrayed the Interceptor in the first movie XD
I give names to inanimate objects. My computers and musical instruments are all named after fictional characters.
I am very scared of heights and one time I got vertigo at an Elton John concert because the seats were too high.
Favorite season: As much as I love the upcoming spooky season, I have to say summer. It's the only time I can be consistently warm all over. I am but a cold-blooded reptile. Ah, to be a snake basking on a flat rock in the sun. What a life.
Continent where I live: North America
How I spend my time: Writing, reading, drawing, cosplay, embroidery, ocarina, and video games
Are you published? Sort of? I have a short story in an anthology my irl writing group put together a few years back, but nothing substantial.
Introvert or Extrovert: Introvert. Although if you press the right buttons, you'll find that I can't shut up actually.
Favorite meal: I'm so basic but I could survive on pizza :D
Gently tagging @awleeofficial, @kialeep, and anyone else who wants to do it XD

A bit about me:
I'm married to my high school sweetheart, and we have been together a total of 18 years so far. He was the one who got me into gaming because my parents were very against a girl playing games, and while I had played Ocarina of Time and Kingdom Hearts, that's all. I come from a very conservative household, so you can imagine the shock to them that I'm polar opposite of my entire family. It's thanks to him that I am the way I am, as he showed me a life outside of that and helped me find myself.
I play FFXIV. I'm a healer main (I play all healers, but I'm mainly a SGE/AST main), and I love helping folks and gposing with my best friend/in-game husband.
I love to write, and I mostly write fan fiction. I'm on ao3 under smileplease91, and while I only have 3 fics on there, 2 are long and took me a few years to write. One of for Stardew Valley (f!farmer x Shane), another for Fire Emblem: Three Houses (f!Byleth x Ashe). I'd love it if you would give them a read! I'm also storyboarding for a novel of my own.
I love to game. I play a bit of everything (minus shooters. I'm not good at those, and I typically don't like them anyway). Legend of Zelda, BG3, Final Fantasy, My Time at Portia/Sandrock, a few of the Fire Emblem games, Sunhaven, Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Coral Island, the Bioshock series, Corpse Party, Fatal Frame, Potion Permit, many different visual novels, Dragon Age (minus Veilguard. Haven't played that one yet), and many more.
Anyway, that's about it for now.

Sometimes I miss being a teenager (particularly I miss having a full head of hair before college stress and extreme family drama made me start balding in my 20s), but I think back to the 2010s and just how toxic it was to try and like anything.
The whole "Sonic was never good" phase that the internet went through and even the franchise adapted that became self depreciation towards itself and its fans
That's actually a pretty good snapshot of why everything sucked back then. Everything remotely cool or edgy in a fun way was ripped to shreds by chucklefucks looking to cash in on the "your favorite thing sucks actually" phase. People were purposely honing in on every piece of media with a microscope to find the slightest wrong doing and inflating it until it's all you could hear about.
The "good" media was not allowed to take itself too seriously and always had to be hidden under several layers of irony and or randomness. "See! We're silly and awful on purpose! It's okay to like this! We don't seriously think we're cool!" "Well THAT just happened."
You weren't allowed to enjoy anything that wasn't main stream. Oh you like anime? Cringe and unforgivable. Oh you're not wearing skinny jeans? What are you, poor? Your favorite game is Ocarina of Time? Um, this youtuber says it sucks actually.
You enjoy thing??? *quotes word per word some internet personality that makes fun of it*
There was just this arrogant hipsterism where nothing you liked was good unless it was niche or referenced old things. It's still persistent today, but thank god we've learned to ignore those guys.
Oh don't get me wrong, the 2020s still suck ass, too, but at least as a culture we've learned to enjoy things again. Now we can tell certain youtubers like Cinemasins or Arin Hanson to go fuck themselves when they try the "this sucks actually" thing to the coolest things ever again.
There's still this stench of "cringe" though. The guilt of enjoying something bad, the pain of having to pretend this thing that sucks is actually cool when it's boring or awful, the "cringe" of finding joy in something you loved as a child or the "cringe" of criticizing bad business practices of said thing because the public perceives it as for babies.
What we truly need is to go back to the 90s and 2000s to really get back to enjoying things unironically. This talking animal guy being cool as shit isn't cringe, it's just cool as shit. This movie or series isn't "bad, actually" because some asshole with a job at buzzfeed hates 1 character, it's got the same ups and downs as any other show or movie. This really low energy hipster cartoon and fake retro inspired game isn't actually the end all be all, and you can be excited about games based on your favorite popular things. One "terrible irredeemable thing" does not in fact make a show irredeemable in the context that its fictional. And the see through color plastics. We gotta bring that back. That's not even an option, this is a command.
Anyways as a 30 year old millennial, thank the Zoomers and Alphas for attacking the 2010s cringe culture with frothing mouths and baseball bats.
