OC Ask Game: Adjectives - 10, 14, 20, 24

OC Ask Game: Adjectives clingy? Sasawa is a bit clingier than most smugglers would be expected to be. She knows she's lives a dangerous life, and wants to keep people close to her alive. Sasawa is one of my few characters whose parents aren't dead; she takes after them in this regard.

blunt? Her. I'm not even telling you her name yet. She's perfectly capable of deception, but sees no reason for it most of the time, or to explain herself.

rebellious? Yolo Covray had a very rebellious adolesence. He didn't even care much about what he was doing, just that his parents would disapprove. Then his actions got his parents killed and his sister shipped off to the Empire. Eventually, he'll grow up.

witty? Bas'riish may well be my wittiest OC. She can zing with a blaster or a word.

Have they ever said anything they regretted to their sibling(s)?

When they were younger, Yolo used to tease Quoraah about her freckles. It wasn't really mean-spirited; but his sister was just too perfect. She was brilliant, popular and beautiful. Their parents were incredibly proud of her and let her stay out far later than they probably should have at the time. So Yolo (not his name at the time) had to find something wrong with her, so he chose that. Quoraah… was kind of a perfectionist at the time. It really hurt her. So she had a friend from school remove them through cosmetic surgery. (Actually, she basically seduced a medical student into doing it off-books, as she was under the age where she would have needed a parent's consent.) Afterwards, Yolo felt really bad about it. It probably helped push him to make even more bad decisions.

What is the most annoying thing about their sibling(s)?

Mehio is a bit annoyed at Toviq's womanizing. (Which is a bit unfair. He "man-izes" too.)

Did their sibling(s) give them anything that they treasure dearly?

Illaynah's brother gave her their mother's Muunilinst silver comb when she left home. (This was when they were on friendlier terms.) Its her most treasured personal possession.

👨‍🍳 - Would your muse make pudding at 3AM because they’ve lost control of their life? Are you kidding? This is exactly the kind of thing Yolo would do. And then Risha would come out in her bathrobe and grumpily ask him what the kriff was he doing?

👔 - Does your muse know how to tie a tie? How did they learn? Oh, yeah. Bukhov - his smuggler mentor - taught him all kinds of things. A space freighter might not be as dependent on knots as a "blue water" naval vessel, but its the kind of thing you need to know.

(Later, Risha would appreciate his talent with knots. Take that as you will.)

Why does your journey matter to you personally? "I still want to help people. I know that's a terrible sentiment for a Sith, but… I want to do amazing things that actually help people. I had so many dreams back on Balmorra. I wanted to engineer important vaccines. Cure diseases. Make my mark in the medical research community. I was smart enough to do it, too."

"Those dreams… are mostly dead. But now, I might have the power to do much more."

Are you proud of who you are?

"I… I'm not perfect. I've done plenty of things that I'm not proud of. A lot of people are dead, and maybe a lot of them deserved it, but some of them didn't."

"I think about Ashara a lot. I don't think her teachers on Taris understood her, but they did care about her. Because of my actions, her future was taken from her, and not by my choice. I want to make that up to her."

Who can make you smile no matter how bad you feel?

"My brother used to make me smile. I knew he was an idiot who got himself into trouble, but he was my brother and I loved him."

"Then he got our parents killed, and got me trussed up and sent off to the Empire as a 'trophy'."

16. Hide and Seek/Manhunt

Ooooh - this is a good one!

Solo? I think... most days, it would be Valkon. Yolo is quite talented and resourceful, but Valkon hunts men like Yolo for a living.

Now it would be fascinating if their crews were included. Risha's wits, Akaavi's knowledge of Mandalorian tactics, and Corso's gunslinging against Mako's slicing, Gault's guile and Torian's courage. Good stuff.

Did Yolo ever go back to Balmorra? What was it like for him?

Yeah, but not until the class stories. (Which ran pretty close to game canon.)

It sucked. A lot. A lot of bad memories just from being on the planet.

He went out of his way to avoid his old haunts. Particularly the remains of his family's old house.

Quoraah, on the other hand, saw all of it. She even ran into a few of her old friends from Sobrik.

The strangest thing was, even though it had only been a couple of years, they didn't recognize her. They took one look at the Sith Apprentice robes, swallowed, bowed, and turned away.

That hurt. Not as much as seeing the rubble of her childhood home, but it hurt.

She's going to take that frustration out on someone for sure.

(Hopefully it won't be Yolo.)

The Beltane Legacy

A brother's act of cowardice will betray his sister, and set the Galaxy itself on a new course.

So I’m dropping in Neemah, in the hopes that this will get me to start developing her more.

I like Mehio, but after Kayeh, I’m burned a bit on the f!Jedi Knight story. Nowan Ko Detizu is a “playable” version of an important background character from my Halcyon Legacy. I moved Valkon to the left of Toviq, since I’m feeling more committed to his story at this point. Deciding that Mehio and Toviq are also brother and sister was a recent development. Dalken is another fun little agent I ran around with.

But the stars - of course - are the Beltane siblings : Quoraah and Yolo.

I hope to do something with them all. For now, making a graphic is fun.

Yolo Covray - OC Intro

This is Yolo Covray. A smuggler.

(Yes, I named an OC as Yolo. Come at me.)

It is not his real name, of course. His given name was Dak Beltane, and he is from Balmorra.

His parents worked for the defense industry. His sister - two years older than he was - was the high-achiever. She earned a full academic scholarship to the University of Sobrik, and had already started medical school by the age of 19.

Dak wasn't like his sister. He chafed against everything. Every rule his parents set for him, his perceived lack of opportunities being a middling student at best, and the Sith Empire's occupation.

He was never political, but it was almost inevitable that Dak fell in with a local Balmorran Resistance Movement cell. They weren't particularly successful or principled; really, they were closer to petty criminals than anything else, with their young 'recruit' playing messenger. Regardless, by 17, Dak had picked up an impressive list of skills.

And then one day the cell got compromised when one of its members sold the others out.

Dak ran, but by then, the Empire and their puppet government knew who he was. When they raided his home, his parents - not understanding the situation - attempted to protect their son. They were killed obstructing the officers while Dak escaped out a window.

His parents' deaths were devastating. Dak had been a rebellious youth; he honestly didn't think they cared for him. Knowing that they'd died trying to save him and it was all his fault was something he'll never forget.

Knowing he needed to get off the planet, Dak ran to to the spaceport and stowed away on a merchant vessel.

(Just before he escaped, Dak heard that the Imperials had arrested his sister as a suspected terrorist. She was convicted in a ten-minute show trial, and sentenced to a life of slavery in the Empire. He knew he couldn't save her, but he wept when he realized he'd destroyed her life as well.)

When he was later discovered by the smuggler captain, he gave the name "Yolo Covray", leaving his old life behind. The captain - a Rodian named Bukhov with a soft spot for hard cases - unexpectedly took him in.  

Over the next three years, Yolo learned everything to know about the smuggler's business. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he belonged.

Bukhov was eventually killed during a run-in with some Gamorreans... right before he and Yolo were set to deliver some blasters to Ord Mantell.

Yolo inherited Bukhov's ship, his contract and (most of) his skills.

Whether it helps him escape his past is anyone's guess.

Yolo, by the way, assumes that his sister is dead or worse by now. He tries not to think about her.

Unbeknownst to him.... He's actually right: She's worse.

What Quoraah will do to him when they finally meet again... well. It may not be pretty.

Yolo prefers tropical climates, in contrast to what Belsavis became. So he like summers on most worlds.

11. How long could your character listen to a bigots delusional nonsense before strangling them?

For all its other problems, Belsavis is diverse. (Count the Twi'leks. Count them.) So yeah - he doesn't care for that. He's more likely to shoot someone than strangle them, however.

E: is the most emotive.

This is a hard one, since most of my OCs tend to bury their obvious emotions. Some are Jedi. Some are spies. Some are Sith who have things going on they can't let others find out about.

Having said all that... I'll go with Bas'riish.

Bas is very open in expressing her emotions, sometimes too much. Oh, she's perfectly capable of putting up a sabbacc face, but most people know it when she either hates someone, or is trying to charm their pants off.

(Often literally.)

I: tends to idolize people they shouldn’t.

Deviah Sarnova very much idolized Darth Malgus when she was little. Malgus was the shield against the Jedi and the Republic. Malgus kept them all safe. Malgus epitomized everything a Sith Warrior should be.

How wrong she was.

G: has the greenest thumb.

Definitely Ozibaumnu. During his servitude on Ziost, tending the gardens on the estate as a horticulturalist was one of the few things that brought him solace. After he gets his ship, he sets up a small botany lab in the cargo bay. Ultimately, he starts producing his own stim packs and other packages. (Hence Biochem crafting.)  

He'd later start his own garden, but that's a tale for the future.

J: tells the most dad jokes.

Yolo Covray tells his share of lame-o jokes. Risha rolls her eyes while the others groan. Only Guss laughs, though most think Guss is faking it.

Z: gets the most overzealous over something others wouldn't expect.

Woxia would absolutely slaughter someone who got between her and her morning cup(s) of caff. As they join the crew, Vette warns the others off after observing an "incident" on Dromund Kaas.

1. Likes their music loud

Yolo Covray blasts his music throughout his freighter. He finally starts toning it down when he picks up Corso and Risha on Coruscant, but its definitely his thing. (Corso likes the Star Wars equivalent of country. Risha favors Nar Shaddaa music.)

Ironically, his sister, Quoraah, also likes her music loud. She, however, is considerate enough to use earplugs.

4. Afraid of spiders

Moyraah Gargun keeps her dislike of spiders a closely guarded secret. She's actually reasonably okay with insects - hence she let Vector join her crew - but spiders bother her a lot. Kaliyo was probably the first one to pick up on this, and i definitely think she pranked her at some point.

21. Is tol

Valkon Tuum is my huge Cathar bounty hunter. He will absolutely use his size to his advantage, whether he's taking someone down or... doing something else. *cough*

Ask Game: A–Z of Character Relationships/Social Behaviors

Thanks for the ask, @commander-krios ! I'm gonna mix it up for this one.

J. Joke: Does your OC tend to tease and banter with their friends, or are they more serious/straightforward?

Yolo Covray is infamous for his pranks and comedic banter. Risha finds it irritating (but privately finds it somehow endearing). The others just roll their eyes.

His worst move is the 'dad jokes' : "What do you call five Siths piled on top of a lightsaber? A sith-kebab!"

E. Easygoing: When with other people, does your OC tend to go with the flow, or be the leader? Why? Are there any people they behave differently around?

Quoraah Beltane is very much a social creature. She's fine going along with what everyone else is doing, but if things feel dead, she'll grab Lana, Ashara and whoever else wants to come and go clubbing with her, for dancing, drinks and fun.

D. Death: Has anyone your OC loved ever died? If so, how did this impact them? Is there anyone your OC would be willing to die to save? Explain.

Deviah loved her parents. She's one of the few OCs I have who had a full and healthy relationship with them. Her failure to save them on Ziost will haunt her for the rest of her life.

I. Irritating: What is something your OC finds annoying about another character?

Corellan... appreciates Doc. He appreciates his vast medical abilities, intelligence and scientific understanding, and that somewhere beneath all his ego and posturing, he is a genuinely compassionate person.

But man - Doc grates on him. Especially his sexist attitude towards Kira, and his dismissive attitude towards everyone else in the crew.

I like to think Doc eventually gets over all that.
