gonna ramble a bit about ocs because i feel like it teehee (its long)
(skipped a few questions because idrk how to answer them. might answer them later if i get some ideas for them)
2. nyr looks friendly, approachable and perhaps kinda shy i think. maybe a bit too serious when he is frowning at something. he is the kinda guy you feel safe around even though you dont know him at all. visually not that interesting, but i think people might notice his eyes, grey and with slight epicanthus
yrsk is a bit harder to read, it really depends on his mood, the circumstances under which you meet him and what he notices about you first, but the feelings he evokes usually range from "i am Not talking to him go away" to not really approachable at best. also not really visually appealing apart from a scar here and there, you would only notice him in the crowd if he didnt wear a shirt (scars + tattoo)
yeah this is really gonna be about these two only, so shortly about other particularly noticeable ocs:
hara - loves elaborate hairstyles so you would probably notice her hair first
nihka - they are tall. like really fucking tall. bro is like a tower in a crowd (if he ever stepped into a crowd but they are Not doing that willingly). also frowns all the time and looks pissed all the time even though they dont mean it and most of the time he is just no thoughts head empty and is actually a golden retriever kinda guy
kristjan - at first glance you just Know its a wry asshole
4. nyr is completely oblivious (he just like me fr) so he doesnt even know he has a crush and just treats them like a good friend. might subconsciously search for reasons to touch them and be physically close to them.
yrsk is also oblivious for a while but then the realization hits him like a truck and he tries really hard to shove the feelings away for Reasons(TM) (trauma) which is futile and even though he thinks he is over the crush, he keeps them close to himself, both physically and emotionally.
(literally just described what was going on between the two before they FINALLY kissed and were like "oh i like him like this". anyways younger yrsk would not hide the crush at all, would look all flustered and shit, your typical deep love crazy "i would die for them" typa teen shit. would try to seduce you with shitty compliments)
snori would tryna play it cool and badass but she would be SCREAMING internally every time she glanced at them
hara is actually playing it cool and badass
(snori x hara is also canon lmao)
veran is raging aroace he doesnt even know what a crush is
kristjan would straight up ignore it he doesnt have time for such trivial matters
8. never really thought about it because i myself dont wear jewelry at all but apart from cultural reasons for wearing jewelry, i think only hara genuinely loves it and enjoys wearing it. that how you know someone is a true rasanian, they love wearing shiny things lmao
9. yrsk loves to affectionately call nyr "ňouma" (english equivalent would be dork i think. simply silly person idk). he doesnt necessarily overuse it but its the typical yrsk word. ofc swear words are very common (kurva vole jebat tuhle píčovinu vyser si voko zkurvysyne kokotskej)
11. i love to associate greyish light blue with nyr, green with yrsk and snori and red with hara
12. nyr and yrsk are constantly touching, its those little things like leaning against each other while sitting, squeezing each other's shoulder encouragingly, this kinda stuff. also constantly saving each other's asses from death. and nyr just wont give up on trying to teach yrsk not to judge and kill people, i think he would quickly give up if he didnt love yrsk.
i didnt really thought about hara's and snori's relationship but i think its similar to nyr's and yrsk's. physical touch, but a lot more kissing i think.
13. i think i projected my undiagnosed autism onto nyr so his eye contact is kinda poor but i guess its still better than mine. yrsk tends to stare sometimes but anyway its similar to nyr. the rest of my ocs also dont really like eye contact or dont mind it? though none of them love it me thinks
16. nyr's childhood was fine, tries to see good in all people and the entire world (and yrsk shows him its stupid, whereas nyr shows him its not okay to assume people are evil) and cant really adjust to southerners' lifestyle (tfw you have been raised on a snowy plain) because they fight over fucking everything.
yrsk learned that punching people who piss you off is satisfying. later in his teens also gained trust issues, trauma, depression, all kinds of fun things that made him this lowkey grumpy guy who just tries to survive in the world and protect his loved ones by any means necessary (controversial moment). you could also says he views himself as nothing but a weapon which really fucks with his self-perception sometimes and adjusting to living outside of the sor desert
snori is kinda similar to yrsk? she learned too that the world is cruel to her but she coped better than yrsk and is far more content with her experience. she got worse in her adult years tbf but it got better again. def did more reflecting on her actions.
hara grew up in a far more better conditions than the three disasters above. she is a noblewoman, you could even say royalty, studied on the best university on the continent but still, she and her people have been oppressed by the lynirosans for centuries and she had to deal with this all the time. so that definitely did something to her but instead of killing lynirosans out of pure hatred (like certain someone named yrsk), she chose to fight diplomatically.
sorry its long and i doubt anyone is gonna read allat but as you can see i am Not normal about my blorbos
✧ OC Asks! ✧
I compiled a short list of some questions that I hadn’t seen yet to help you (and me) have some fun while developing OCs. Feel free to answer these yourself, or ask someone else!
1. How does your OC feel about their full name?
2. What do strangers notice about them first?
3. How does their social personality differ from how they act when they’re alone?
4. How do they act around a crush?
5. Do they have a “tell” for when they’re lying?
6. What do they smell like?
7. What is their hair texture like?
8. How much jewelry do they wear, and do they have a favorite or distinguishing piece?
9. Do they have a word or phrase that they tend to overuse?
10. What is a weird quality that they have (ie their hands are always cold, they’re always hungry, they snort when they laugh, etc)?
11. What color do they look strikingly good in?
12. How do they show affection to someone they love?
13. Do they make strong/frequent eye contact when they talk to someone?
14. What attributes do they have that are inherited from their parents or shared with their siblings/other relatives?
15. Are their greatest flaw and their greatest strength related and in what way? (ie very caring and helpful but a doormat, or very observant and shrewd but often paranoid)
16. How has their childhood affected the way they view an aspect of their life (people, education, society, themselves, etc)?
And that’s all! Remember to reblog with your answers, I’m genuinely curious to hear about other people’s characters/writing processes!

officially finished with my character sheets for this year's artfight!!!
i might do more as i still have a bunch of ocs i really love and which actually dont have proper designs yet so it would be a great opportunity to finally figure out how to draw them. also might do alternate designs with a cloak and a hat for all of them (as you can see, yrsk is the most spoiled kid).
i would love to ramble about them so if anyone has any questions about them feel free to ask!

7., 8. and 23. for the oc ask!
(sorry anon im skipping 7 because i genuinely can't think of anything lmao)
8. Do complex puzzles intrigue or frustrate them?
Hara strikes me as a type who would LOVE puzzles and stuff. Snori would be interested and would let Hara explain the solving process if she ran into a dead end. I think Nyr would be indifferent to them? Not really his thing but would probably be unintentionally really good at them. Yrsk would get frustrated almost immediately but would somehow bruteforce it sooner than Hara actually solves it.
23. Stability or novelty?
Stability for Nyr, 100%. He likes his silly little routines (he barely gets any in his current story).
I would say Yrsk is also more of a stability guy except he doesn't stick to routines and just goes with the flow and doesn't mind novelty as long as it's not a life-changing experience. The same goes for Snori and Hara i guess? They might be more open to novelty though.

13 and 22 for ocs of your choice 💥
13. Name one thing their parents taught them.
Nyr was taught by his dad how to make bows. For Yrsk it would be his father's philosophy regarding life i guess? It honestly might be what gave him hope when things were dire, both consciously and subconsciously.
22. Do they like being called pet names? Do they call other people pet names? What’s their go-to?
First of all their names are absolutely unsutable to have diminutive forms so im just gonna focus on terms of endearment.
Both Nyr and Yrsk use them sporadically but with all the more affection and only for each other. Simple stuff like "my love" and shit, nothing crazy. Also i guess you could classify Yrsk's "ňoumo" as a pet name because he calls that Nyr all the time with so much affection for no fucking reason lmao. For non-understanders of Czech it's like a dork or something but not exactly derogatory i guess?
On the other hand, Hara does not spare a pet name ever and absolutely loves calling Snori stuff like "beautiful", "pretty" etc. etc. at every opportunity. And it's not even limited to her lover, she calls Nyr and Yrsk stuff like "darling" as well when she feels like they need it. ("Zlato" in Czech and i think that's about it because why tf are most terms of endearment in Czech absolutely cringe and vile to me.)

1 5 10 15 for oc(s) of ur choosing ?
number 1 is already answered in the previous ask, feel free to check out my insane conlanger ramblings 💥💥
5. What’s their favorite type of weather? Do they like to do anything specific on days when the weather is how they like it?
Nyr was raised in the arctic/sub-arctic and he naturally prefers generally colder weather except in his eyes it's warm (he loves arctic summers but mind you they are arctic summers). As for the other arctic extreme, the winter, he doesn't mind freezing temps at all, he actually finds them quite refreshing. Generally speaking, he likes sunny weather the most no matter the season.
Yrsk simply doesn't give a fuck and is content as long as he is not literally freezing his ass off. Which is ironic given that he plans on living with Nyr in his very cold homeland. Unlike Nyr, he handles warm temperatures well, although he found the heat of the Sorkish desert during the day really challenging sometimes.
Hara is in the same situation as Yrsk and Snori goes into both extremes – appreciates both cold and hot weather, loves both rain and the sun.
10. What’s their favorite time of day?
Nyr likes the dawn and the dusk the most. He finds them way more relaxing than the night which feels too silent and lonely for him.
On the other hand, Yrsk prefers the night. Even though he normally can't sit still and has to Do Things to not explode out of boredom, he finds comfort in the silence of the night when he can finally force himself to rest. Positive association probably plays a role as a lot of Sorkish festivities he attended were held in the night when the desert cooled down.
Idk about Snori and Hara really. No particular time of day comes to mind so i guess they wouldn't have a preferred one.
15. How do they type? Do they use emojis? Do abbreviate and shorten words?
They don't, the sillies canonically can't read nor write (except Hara and Snori). At least for now, but in any case Nyr didn't need it ever, everything was passed down by oral tradition in his homeland, and Yrsk can barely read text because he gets extremely frustrated by his dyslexia every time anyone tries to teach him and just gives up.
But i wanna pull out modern AU here, so:
Nyr would use proper punctuation and diacritics, but probably only in miniscule (the gay typing is real), and he would always try to write everything crystal clear. i think he would love emoticons and kaomoji
Yrsk would be the polar opposite, i think his texts would be borderline incomprehensible because he would type fast and wouldnt check if he even makes sense (now combine that with the dyslexia), though for some reason Nyr would be so used to it that he would be able to read it without trouble (me when im reading the ancient texts (yrsk is just asking whether we want to order pizza for dinner)). Probably would use like three emojis at most.
Hara and Snori would probably be very tame in this regard. Hara would have an emoji for every situation, Snori would have a silly reaction pic for every situation.

6.,7., and 20. for the oc ask ^^
this will be lengthy just sayin, i can never shut up about ocs (also cw for a bit of a suicide talk in the 20.)
6. How far would they go to save someone they love? Would they sacrifice themselves? Others?
Oh boy they would. It's a theme that I explore a lot with my ocs and I think Yrsk is the most extreme example of this. Because of his experiences, he doesn't value his life as much as he should, so he is always ready to jump headfirst into some stupid ass danger for the sake of those he loves, and safe to say he loves A LOT. Even despite, or maybe because of, the fact that fate wasn't kind to those he has loved and lost, he gets attached very strongly. So in the case of Nyr, for the longest time his best friend and later his lover, he would do basically anything. He very probably wouldn't sacrifice friends, would hesitate to sacrifice people in some way close to him, but in case of strangers or enemies, likely no hesitation. He would sacrifice his life without a doubt.
As for Nyr, he constantly scolds Yrsk to discourage him from sacrificing himself all the time, but deep down he knows that he would go to the same extremes as Yrsk. The only difference between them is the fact that Nyr actually values his life a healthy amount and would first and foremost try to think of any solution that doesn't involve anyone losing their life.
To give an example from the opposite side of the spectrum, there is Kristjan. A guy who doesn't give a fuck about anyone except for his childhood friend and master Venrask, a noble with a high status. Kristjan will do anything Venrask says, no matter the danger, he always fulfills his tasks, he would die for his lord without hesitation. But apart from him, he wouldn't care. He later befriends Nihka, a deserter from the Empire, and he finds himself genuinely worried for them, but he wouldn't sacrifice anything for them if they were in danger. Maybe he would've felt sad if they were to die, but at the end of the day, he would just wave it off with a "what a pity" and carry on.
7. What's their pain tolerance?
Honestly can't think of anyone who would significantly deviate from the norm lol. Both Nyr and Yrsk can take a lot I would say, they are both used to it in some way and are definitely not scared of pain. I think dragon shapeshifters like Nihka could withstand basically anything, they wouldn't back down no matter the amount of pain, and the same would go for harpies.
As for low pain tolerance, I would pick Hara. Maybe a little stereotypical given she is a noble lmao, but it fits. She would try to hide her pain so that others don't think she is weak, but Snori would definitely see through her (for context, these two will grow up to be similarly close as Nyr and Yrsk, eventually becoming lovers as well).
20. Are they codependent? Do they have abandonment issues?
Lmao get Yrsk back on the scene because oh boy this guy can fit so much angst. As I mentioned previously, my man is absolutely fucked when it comes to relationships with people and the abandonment issues are definitely there and damn are they strong. As for the codependency, that's also there. He would probably attempt suicide sooner or later if he hadn't met Nyr, and the suicidality stays with him for the longest time (I don't have this planned out yet but he will definitely get better one day; and to clarify so noone gets the wrong idea, he never threatens Nyr or anyone else with suicide, he mostly keeps this stuff to himself and talks about it extremely rarely).
Snori also struggles with abandonment issues a little bit but it's not as severe as Yrsk's, given she has lived alone for a fair amount of years. So when she meets Hara, a chill lady she gets along extremely well, she finds herself attached, maybe a bit too much.
As for Nyr, he is initially dependent on Yrsk mainly physically (stranded far from home on the run from dangerous men, not knowing how to fight, it's not surprising) and later also emotionally (oh fuck he is now the only person around here that I can trust). The emotional aspect stays – he never achieved such understanding with anyone else he has ever met. Sure, he has a huge family back home, lots of people who love him from both his and surrounding tribes and communities, but he felt something completely new with Yrsk. It was probably because of their situation in which they had to find comfort and trust in each other to survive, but even when the danger had passed, saying goodbye to each other was nearly impossible; after all, they became great friends who could both talk for days and stay silent for hours and both would feel okay.
Nyr may not have abandonment issues but he is without a doubt extremely scared of being alone. Loneliness he can manage, but the complete lack of human company and being lost is something he can't handle well.

Overview of Kélas and Shadows of the Past
posting this so anyone interested in my ramblings about OCs knows at least a little bit of wtf im on lmao
What is Kélas and Shadows of the Past?
Kélas is the one and only fictional continent that my OCs inhabit and where my story Shadows of the Past (and others, such as Yrsk's prequel Seven Circles of Death) is set. It has been in the works since 2017 and it's still unfinished. I have technically finished it in 2020 but I grew unsatisfied with a lot of stuff in it, so now it's in a really slow process of being written all over again. It's in Czech only and I definitely don't plan an English translation.
The setting
The classic: medieval high fantasy with a little bit of magic and non-human beings (wyvern shapeshifters and harpies). As of the beginning of Shadows of the Past, there are four sovereign kingdoms – Northern Union, Parlene-Sekardian Federation, Middleland Alliance and Southern Empire (also often called Lynirosan Empire). They all consist of a number of smaller autonomous units but talking about all of them would make this post billion times longer.
I could say the inspirations are very euro-centric but lately I've been working hard on making every culture it's own unique thing, with real-world inspirations being mostly only superficial. Likely influenced by my constructed languages.
There is also a little bit of magic involved but yapping about it would also significantly lengthen this post. The important thing is that it cannot be learned, a person has to born with it, and that it stems from the ability to control the invisible threads of magic present in everything on Kélas. The magic isn't extra strong – actually, killing a person with magic directly is nearly impossible.
The characters
And finally, the OCs. The "main" ones and my favorites are Nyr, the very main protagonist of Shadows of the Past (the book is written from his perspective), and Yrsk, the second protagonist, who is present throughout the entirety of the story. These two later become lovers.
Another two characters from the main cast are Snori and Hara. They become lovers as well, but significantly quicker than the guys who are having their slowburn homoerotic bromance with angst and shit for like half of the novel. They travel with Nyr and Yrsk and are their good friends (mlm and wlw solidarity ftw).
And the last guy to join the main cast is Veran. A so called most incapable bounty hunter on the entire continent. Yrsk has beef with him kind of.
I might not talk about her often but the main antagonist and villain of the story is the Empire's current ruler, Rivalis Angara III. Hikaria. She took the throne when she was just 7 years old, after the mysterious death of her parents. She might be insane, who knows. Speaking of her, another noteworthy character is her cousin Venrask Sentangar, a son to the lord of Sentia, who helped her keep the throne while being just 14 years old.
And to mention another antagonist (with a question mark), there is Kirjan, a guy, perhaps an asshole, only loyal to himself and Venrask, noone else. He has beef with the main cast for Reasons and a weird relationship with Nihka. Weird as in even I don't know what exactly is happening between them but it might be fruity.
Now, the wyvern shapeshifters (often called just dragons or shapeshifters) – they lost their shapeshifting powers about 700 years ago and to this day, nobody knows why. But for some reason, there suddenly appeared a bunch of dragons capable of shapeshifting, tied to the Empire and causing problems for our protagonists. Among those are Hrafnur, Raroh, Ahke, Syranna, Nihka, Vahan, Rajka, Vida and more (13 in total, not all of them are named yet).
Another two frequently mentioned characters are Kaija and Yarhaq, appearing only in Seven Circles of Death. Kaija was Yrsk's lover and Yarhaq was Yrsk's master who taught him everything about fighting, killing and surviving. They were both killed by Lynirosans, hence Yrsk's grudge against the Empire.
And finally, Ki Luram, or Sand or Písek in Czech. They are a character who lived in Rasan 700 years ago and their story is not fleshed out yet, but I really like them and drawing them is also fun:)
---
And that is all for the basics! Questions about anything and anyone (I absolutely did Not mention all of the characters) are more than welcome:)
