May I present y'all with Amryl Shadowhoard; my Gary Sue, my batman. My everything and the kitchen sink. And I adore it.

SO. Amryl [They/It; sometimes she] is a hybrid [dhampir/werewolf, roflmao], half-elf with tiefling ancestry. Why do they have wings you ask? [Because I wanted it to fly/teleport, :-(].

I haven't ironed out the deets. But basically, Amryl is the youngest sibling to my youngest durge [Isyl]. Amryl's family found/was given Isyl. They didn't have children yet and Isyl became their beloved baby. They loved [.... I think] Amryl but they could never get losing Isyl. So they - a very wealthy mercantile/trader family - spent a lot of money trying to find Isyl.

Amryl became a dhampir; not through the traditional sense but either from a deal went wrong made by her parents OR by a trash ex [I haven't decided yet]. My original thought [that I might keep] was that it died, and through regret [if I do the parents angle] or obsession [the ex angle], and they were frankenstein'd back to life. Hence the wings [and maybe the werewolfness].

It's family was very devout to Lathander but the Morninglord [and his followers] do not suffer the undead. So when they came back, he left them out in the cold. But Bahamut welcomed her with open arms. So they're a war cleric of Bahamut and a ranger 😌.

I still have not decided their personality. Other than they're a dark wearer; the blue and white is an exception to honor Bahamut [he doesn't seem the type to care but it is immensely grateful for his kindness and strength and support]. Also, their bg is entertainer.

Oh boy if you loved that, have I got a treat for you. Thanks to @sickfreaksirkay who sent the story in pieces for me to compile, we can now read Perceforest translated by Nigel Bryant and edited by Norris J Lacy. It sounds right up your alley. The original was over 1,000,000 words long. Bryant and Lacy are amazing translators though and cut down a lot of repetition so it’s readable.

hoo boy OK

didn't want to dump this in the fan week tag because it's TECHNICALLY not FFIV but "crossover" did make me think of it.

this also isn't technically a "crossover" given that its entirely in-universe and just happens to be directly RELATED to FFIV but i wanted to talk about it and i figured out how to use my 6yo chromebook as a drawing tablet last night so here goes

i have this FFXIV OC who is quite literally "Edward but an evil bug demon" and i got so attached to him i'm making a whole-ass doll, with some help from my friend for some of the more complex engineering parts. here's some of my design sketches and color tests and what will eventually be his torso (he's being made out of a kind of butterfly-skeleton lookin BJD). It's mostly head shots because i was clearly struggling a lot with how to do the hair and the placement of the eyes, though i think i've sorta figured it out. the final outfit will have a diadem that kind of incorporates the eyes and antennae.

the strings-between-arms idea was from before i was offered the doll with the hollow torso, and i ended up abandoning it for structural reasons anyway. he still has four arms, though, two with human hands and two that are more mantis adjacent, which will have those white-and-blue stripes found on the Antlion's mandibles in Amano's concept art. It will be a bit difficult to rig on the torso, given it's just a ribcage held up by a spine, but i think it's doable as long as the additional arms are smaller

i'm not sure on the actual SHAPE of the antennae -- was kind of thinking something feather-like, but that might be too far into moth territory.

i was like "oh i definitely need the hairstyle to resemble Edward's so it's obvious who he's supposed to be riffing off of!" but as it turns out: Edward does not have an "iconic" haircut. Most every image of him has something different.

the character's name is Prince Orfeo of the Heartless Harp, once the sovereign of the Golden Principate of Damcyan before the world fell into darkness, now a voidsent whose beautiful face and enchanting voice mask the rapaciousness of a predatory insect.

He has a heart of gold, they say, but when has gold ever loved anyone back?

FFXIV lore and how it relates to FFIV lore under the cut but the short version is: i saw the words "damcyan antlion" in a dungeon and went fully insane

OK SO the 13th/the Void ended up with a lot of FFIV inspiration. That's perfect for me as the Void has been kind of my Thing since i started playing

the basic concept of the Void is kind of like, it's a world where the heroes failed -- one way or another, by deception or hubris or simply dying and being reborn as twisted monsters, they all became the villains. to this end we get the hero version of Golbez, of course, but like...

in the Lunar Subterrane dungeon, you delve into the hero Golbez's memories of his final moments, in which he and Durante are struggling to repel an invasion of Baron. the environment is a little...desert-y to be a one-to-one match for the FFIV Baron, which i already thought was interesting, but then Durante laments "nothing is exempt from their avarice" right before we get to the second boss fight of the dungeon: Damcyan Antlion

i thought it was really interesting that it was specifically a DAMCYAN antlion, because that immediately made me think -- wait, if this is effectively the "opposite" of FFIV, is Damcyan the invading force here? the antlion's boss mechanics involve dragging you into sand pits and crashing into pillars to bring them down, so it sure does make an effective siege weapon... hey, didn't they mention "avarice"? Some supplemental FFIV stuff mentions that Damcyan is extremely wealthy, to the extent that money is literally named after their ruling dynasty...

oh my god is there an evil version of Edward on the 13th

given the lack of permanent death once the laws of physics were broken enough over there, does that mean there's specifically a DEMON version of Edward that exists in the Void right now

so i immediately mapped out a basic concept for Bugward, gave him an Italian mythological name to go with all the Dante's Inferno stuff, and somehow got so fixated on it that now i'm balls deep in an expensive doll project.

The Birdcatchers, my fantasy high oc party! they’re currently level 12 juniors like the bad kids :D

(called the birdcatchers cause due to some shenaniganery and japes they spent their first day meeting each other while chasing after a flock of birds that had stolen their possessions)

OUR CAST:

Malory Clara Dorothy Eleanor Mildmay, (she/her), Warforged Storm Sorcerer. Basically an Enid Blyton/post-WW2 English boarding school girl dropped into an 80s American high school setting and is having a Bad Time. she is excessively polite, uses honourifics copiously, is deeply nervous and a very good liar. doesn’t talk much about her family.

Zeke Ambercrown, (he/him), Way of the Drunken Master Monk Satyr. very lithe jock kid, plays bloodrush, a lot smarter than he lets on. learnt the monk technique from his family, who love him dearly. lives at the Ambercrown brewery and enjoys experimenting with different fermenting processes to make new drinks - loves chemistry, but is willing to play the ‘dumb jock’ so he can be underestimated. following the events of their freshman year, zeke opened up the older, disused secondary brewery and worked to transform it into a place for everyone to live, work, and be safe.

Trib Ferrier, (they/them), Oath of Vengeance Goblin Paladin. very serious, and comes from a long line of Jesters. considered a disappointment to their lineage, they have instead taken on a blood oath against a rival house of dreaded Mimes to redeem themself in the eye of their family. picture the smallest goblin possible with Hugemassive eyes, the aura of a depressed businessman, and the attire of a court jester. bells and all.

Talaria (Tally) Beira, (she/her), College of Whispers High Elf Bard. tally is a prankster and a bit of a shithead, plays the bass as her channeling tool for her magic (resents being compared to Fig, as in Tally’s eyes she’s been playing the bass way longer than Fig). badly split-dyed hair, jean jacket, and missing half of one ear, she loves nothing more than planning out a good prank. despite this, she’s a terrible coward and is loathe to face consequences for her actions. she hates this part of herself but doesn’t know how to change it. but hey funny water bucket on door sick bass riff right!! haha that’s funny right!! right?

Orfeo Ravocrath, (he/him), Grave Cleric/Phantom Rogue White Dragonborn. despite being a six and a half foot tall white dragonborn wearing a black cowboy hat, orfeo is pretty hard to spot. when he wants to be seen, though, he’s seen - he’s got that southern charm, chill personality, and is also a perfect priest of death, and also seems to be the most popular of the birdcatchers. he’s a little bemused by this, as all he really wants is to go with the flow and doesn’t much care about popularity (which infuriates some of his party members to no end). rumour goes, though, that he’s not actually a cowboy - just a theatre kid who’s really, really method.

Rose Orry, (she/her), Ancestral Guardians Barbarian Tiefling. rose comes from a prestigious house of fashion designers, and she’s never seen without her signature sunglasses. she’s a classic mean bitch, vain about her appearance and prideful about her fashion designing talents, and the most annoying thing about her is that she’s actually really fucking good. beneath that bubblegum-pink, knife-sharp exterior, though, seems to be a normal high school student, forced to grow up too soon and terrified of never finding her true love.

3. Who was your Tav raised by?

Wow you're really making me think!

Sekryd: I think by local guild members, my brain wants to say this. I'm doing a quick and dirty research run and it seems Gold Dwarves don't like anyone, in short. Except each other and mostly humans. LMAO.

I think her parents were traveling merchants. She didn't always travel with them but sometimes she did. When she was left behind in BG I think the guild as a whole helped raise her. Various aunts and uncles and piblings by heart if not name. Mostly though, it was an much older aunt that she saw as a grandmother.

Adair: His nanny on paper, but xyr's servents in reality. Mom was occasionally around and active. But it was mainly her nanny a nd the butler.

Orfeo: Himself. The streets? the occasional sympathetic and/or taking-advantage-of-a-hungry-urchin shopkeep. the occasional sympathetic and/or taking-advantage-of-a-hungry-urchin crimimal. But usually other street kids. But mostly himself.

Kaeliana: I'm still trying to feel around on the durge bg and what I want to work for her. Fel, of course, was one of the people. But I think she had foster or adopted parents for a time -- they were good people. I feel before that maybe a group home?

Integrity: His older sister and an elderly aunt for a time. [This may change but it works; definitely leans towards his protectiveness for tiefling women. Especially the ballsy ones.]

Andy: Too many people. If you could call some of it "raising". People who saw him as either an obligation or a tool. But the people who really raised him were his parents, for a time, and then his older cousin.

Kendis: Her parents and her brother.

7. Did your Tav travel a lot pre-tadpole?

Sekryd: Moderately. Mostly around BG. Mostly for business outside of it. She has passing familiarity with parts of the areas around her city. Waterdeep, Candlekeep. Been to the Sword Coast once.

Adair: To a couple of places extensively but not in the way xe is now. Mostly was a "homebody", in the sense that they had to be at home due to responsibilities [Noble, you see]. But, of course, would visit other nobles and etc.

Orfeo: [This may change] But I feel he was JUST starting out. He probably made out around the city and surrounding areas and was just venturing outward before he was snatched.

Kaeliana: She doesn't remember ... jk. Yes. Seems that Durge got busy and bloody.

Integrity: For a time. Before the hermit life. Call it the indiscretion of youth.

Andy & Kendis: Yes. Andy mostly lmao. Vengeance path!

17. What’s your Tav’s worst childhood memory?

Sekryd: Some other child, maybe another kid of a guild member, borrowing a book of hers and basically returning it like shit.

Adair: Her grandfather didn't really acknowledge her existence [but he was the only child of his beloved - though rebellious - eldest daughter]. But one time he invited her to an event, she was very excited. However, the night was -- not the best ... xe was used to people's muttered comments but usually they never stared xyr down. I guess it's different among your grandfather's people vs other nobles. The cherry on the cake was her drunk grandfather who left for home without her.

Orfeo: Just one?

Kaeliana: Blood. Blood. Bloodbloodbloodblood. She wish she could say it was that but that group home was the pits. Strangely she remembers THAT.

Integrity: Other than the racism, it was good. Most of his horrid memories started at their later teenhood [still a child, arguably. and yes they would argue.]

Andy: Man. ROFLMAO. Where do we begin~~ But no. It will always be his parents. His parents went on a trip and the boat disappeared.

Kendis: When their parents left her behind in the grove. They understand the reasoning, but it doesn't make what happened around it any better. For a time she thought they had died.

23. Share any hcs/anything you want to say about your Tav’s backstory

Sekryd: I believe has a skilled hand with a hammer. She will read. Anything. May be my most curious. That's saying something given Andy, Kendis, and Integrity are in the lot.

Adair: Is surprisingly a guile hero. Surprising because xe tends to lean straightfoward and blunt regularly. But I suppose facing fiends and ogres require the same silver tongue as dealing with nobles. I also picture him dedicated to his people [who have warm up to her and some also are protective].

Orfeo: He tried his hand at criminality [if yall were gonna arrest him for being poor, why not actually do something worth it yeah?]. But not really for him; far too cut throat [towards him .... and you know, maybe other people. Maybe he cares about that too.] Still. He has his moments and remembers some things.

Kaeliana: I haven't reached it all in Act 3. But I think before Orin got her, Kae was starting to wonder. Starting to have a change of heart. Before Wyll. I think it was from being a paladin.

Integrity: I put outlander in his bg but he's a Hermit. He left his grove/people/wte. Fuck them druids.

Andy:
