if i had a great skill for making music and writing songs, i would endeavor to work myself into a position where i could create a piece of work that went viral on tiktok via a hit breakthrough track and garnered a large cult following of people who appreciate my 'singer songwriter aesthetic' and flair for thought provoking and unique lyrics. when said album came out it would be presented as a concept album with minimal information from me, but despite this, people would launch into it with their own interpretations; it would sell a lot of vinyl, people would start using the songs as sad audios about stuff like their best friend drifting away from them or their grandma dying or etc, there would be a trend of making OC or fandom animatics with one of the more popular audios that ffans of the music found absolutely obnoxious, people who'd listened since my humble beginnings would lament my sudden popularity, etc. but this album would endure, it would still be widely listened to and talked about among certain genres of human for many years. lots of speculation online about what the plot of the so called concept album is. i dont give them a lot of information to work with. i kinda dance around the question in interviews, i'm like, "oh you know i was just testing my storytelling skills here, i was just spinning yarns, it's personal to me but it's also not about me at all, use your imagination <3 i love hearing what you guys have to say about my work." so after a while it's taken for granted that we'll never know what I meant, and that's intentional. it's for the audience to interpret, to fit into the mold of their own lives. ten years later, i release an anniversary edition, to much social media celebration; i'm mentioned in hundreds of posts of people sharing their very personal connection with it. and a few ask me what my inspiration was, but i don't answer. nobody can answer. it's about everything and it's about nothing, and they will never, ever know that it's a long-form piece of RPF about Neil Young and Stephen Stills in musical form

Reasons why you should vote for Jessica in @lemon-demon-oc-tournament

She started out her life as the only daughter of wealthy Englishmen named Alice Franklyn. She hated her old life and the constraints it had on her, so she ran away to north america to become a famous adventure

Long story short she found a magical mask that granted her basically ultimate power. The first thing she does with this mask is kill a group of treasure hunters who wanted to kidnap her

After that, she became a cowboy and fought bandits with her sheriff friend

years later she found out about her immortality the hard way by watching her sheriff friend die of old age, she was there for him still his death bed

anyways, her mask was actually created by an ancient demon of chaos who created the mask as his "final prank" before getting sealed away

Her favourite powers to use with her mask are shapeshifting, creating illusions, invisibility, and levitation

along with her immortality, she's also indescribable. She's made a party trick out of ripping her limbs off and reattaching them

Jessica continued to go on epic immortality adventures after her cowboy years, faking her death and changing her identity every good few years

as much as she likes helping people she can be a huge piece of shit at times, lost track of her moral code and all that

decided to become a graphic designer in the modern day as shits and giggles, ended up meeting her best friend Cala at the university she's going to

she had a panic attack at a party once surrounding her relationship with Cala. Jessica believes that if Cala were to ever find out about her last she will lose her friendship with her. She ran away from that party was became a missing person, planing on faking her death soon after

demo showed me this video which contains most of the anti-ai-art talking points presented neatly and professionally. i've already heard most of the arguments in this video but i'll go over the ones that stuck out to me and explain why i agree or disagree with them. btw i am using "ml" to mean "machine learning" and "mlm" to mean "machine learning model". also i'm also only going to talk about the arguments that relate to "ai art" specifically

processing power needed to run MLMs: this was a pretty small point in the video but i am going to highlight it bc it's one of the actual major problems with ml nobody talks about. a lot of the current hype around generative "ai" is that anybody can use it, but that isn't really true–only the people with a lot of processing power can actually run these algorithms, and as it stands those "people" are corporations that will stop lending you their gpu space the second they realize it's not profitable. the actual bad end for "ai art" is that adobe and disney and the like use it to crank up their garbage output while charging regular people insane amounts of money to do it themselves

unethical labor practices: i wish i could print out this part of the video and staple it to the face of every tech enthusiasts i know because THIS is the real maggot infesting the heart of the industry–that all the tech we take for granted is built on the back of the coerced and invisible labor of people in the global south. the thing is...... this is a problem for the entire tech industry, like i said, so singling out the use of it in mlm training is missing the forest for the trees. it's a testament of the treatment of manual labor under capitalism and the damage that divorcing the laborer from the product can do to a society. conversely, getting mad about ml is not going to improve anything on that front; only the empowerment of the impoverished people being exploited by the tech companies can do that.

generative MLMs producing low quality outputs: i'll tackle this one from both angles: if this is an issue of "capitalism discards meaningful art in favor of bland marketability", then again, a problem but not a new or unique one–one look at the current state of hollywood, which is still mostly human-produced, will tell you that. if this is an issue of "there's too much bad art on my instagram feed" then so what? good art cannot exist without bad art, and the amount of bad art being made will probably be much greater than the amount of good art made even in a post-capitalist world. that's just the nature of art. also i think the janky uncanny ml art is the coolest form of ml art by far

on the other hand, MLMs producing outputs indistinguishable from human products: only a problem when artists lie about the medium in which they made their work (true of every art medium) or when artists' livelihoods depend on how much bland art they can churn out (the default state of an artist under capitalism)

ML's inherent lack of creativity: i've stated before that i'm not interested in defining "art", and i'll tack "creativity" onto that as well; we won't really know how "creation" happens until we have a comprehensive understanding of the human brain (or god takes a vacation down here and tells us. or something). but i will say this: mcgee argues that because the machine does the actual generation, the product will never be truly original. to which i would respond: so what? originality is not the end-all-be-all metric by which to judge art. if it was then neil gaiman would be screwed

the assertion that ml artists are lazy and only "true" artists can make good art: dude, the vast majority of people generating ml art are basically treating it like picrew. they're regular guys, possibly new to the art world, that have no confidence in their artistic ability and just want to see their oc the way they imagine in their heads. this could be a great way to introduce people to the world of art if we applaud their earnestness and encourage them to keep creating regardless of quality. or we could accuse them of being hacks, i guess. (weakest part of the video imo)

finally, the assertion that training an MLM on copyrighted content is stealing: saving this for last bc so many people (mcgee included) take it for granted that this is true but i still don't buy it. the line between inspiration and plagiarism is blurry at the best of times, but a decent rule of thumb independent artists seem to have used for a while is "it's plagiarism if it's a direct copy of the original" which leaves room for stuff like fanfiction and fanart. the thing is, diffusion mlms DON'T copy art, they approximate it as a handful of numbers which they then multiply by a few million other numbers when the time comes to produce output. i fail to see how this, in the context of art ownership, is meaningfully different than a human taking direct inspiration from the original piece. you can argue that it's not truly original, sure, but stealing? why would an action only be theft if it's a machine doing it?

conclusion: i came off very critical here, so let me be clear: these are specifically disagreements about the way mcgee characterizes ai art and people who use it. the rest of the video is about how much the tech industry sucks, which yeah. it totally sucks. mcgee correctly identifies the problems with how the industry treats art, labor, and humanity, as well as the catastrophic fallout of that treatment on general society. el problema es el capitalismo dot jpeg

The fact that I write female OC's and then I see people complaining about not having threads or getting memes but they have tons and I get maybe one a day (Granted from people I adore and love and appreciate) I know its not me- its the stigma of female oc's but it still hurts and makes me question if it is my writing.

19. Who is an author that inspires you? So many but I have to say @neil-gaiman because of his ability to blend the normal and the magical. Its so inspiring and such a clean smooth transition.

This is my new Crash Bandicoot OC, her name is Faye.

Name: Faye Jackrabblynx

Species: Mutated Artic Lynx/Albino Jackrabbit hybrid

Gender: Female

Mutated by: Dr. Nitrus Brio

Voice Actress: Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Sora Takenouchi on 1999 Digimon Adventure continuity)

Biography: Faye was once two ordinary animals from North America being an artic lynx and albino jackrabbit until she was captured by the Lab Assistants and was taken to the Cortex Castle and was mutated into a Jackrabblynx hybrid by Dr. N. Brio *Something that happened during the events of Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex*, she was locked up alongside the other good mutants who are against N. Brio.

Later *In a sequel to Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced* , she was one of the many mutants freed by Crash, Coco, Crunch, and Aku Aku, who are looking for the pet cat of Danielle and her little sister Abby named Janie, when they believed she was mutated,, but she wasn't around with the mutated animals, so they continue to search for her.

After Uka Uka's defeat where he was once again stranded on the same artic wasteland as Neo Cortex and Janie being freed from Uka Uka and N. Brio's control as Feral J where she was reunited with her owners, Faye has been living in the wilderness alone for months until she was discovered by a widower Neil Viroment, the head of the New Beginnings Village in Australia and his only daughter, Naomi, the sole heir, and took her in as one of their own.

A few years later, when the village was suffering to provide everything they needed, a mad scientist named Norris Perial, who was hired by Dr. Neo Cortex one year ago offers a deal to side with the Cortex Commandos to give them everything they want, however Neil refuses to join them due to the fact that they strive world domination, however, a delusional Naomi, who strives for a better future for the village joins them, much to their horror. Later, when Neil tried to take his daughter back, this ended with a battle between them, where he ended up mortally wounded and blinded, Faye witnessed this and had to take him back to safety, before going on a journey to get her sister back, when N. Viroment joins with N. Perial to find the elusive Grand Crystal that will give great power.

During her journey, Faye meets a mutated groundhog named Digger, who joins her.

3 years later, Faye meets Nozomi Akiko, who saved her from N. Perial's robots when they try to stop her from finding the Grand Crystal. Afterwards, she gets introduced to her friends, Crash, Coco, Crunch, Tawna, Irma Bilby, Bumpy Woylie, Isabella, Liz, Ami, Megumi, Pasadena O'Possum, Yaya Panda, Hasty, Coati Jake, Kooky Burra, Sugarchidna, Splatter Platypus, and Outfox Fennec, alongside Aku Aku and the Quantum Masks, who learned about her history and the fact she and her friend Digger were looking for Naomi and find the Grand Crystal before she and N. Perial do, while they *And Digger* go on an adventure, while unknown to them, Tiny Tiger, Dingodile, Ripper Roo, Koala Kong, Pinstripe Potoroo, the Komodo Brothers, Rilla Roo, and Catbat hear about what's really going on with N. Perial and his mysterious connection to the late Professor Isaac Usher Smith and decided to secretly follow them.

After a really long quest, they come face to face with N. Perial, and N. Viroment, who got to the Crystal first and the environment is being ripped apart, and they have to stop them before it will fall to the right hands, while Faye tries to convince Naomi to come back, Crash had to stop N. Perial, who is wearing the mask Smith is now as they have the combined power, wanting to destroy Crash and his friends and family, even the Cortex Commando mutants and remake the world into their own, while also learning they were only using Naomi for the real plan.

Crash was unable to beat the N. Perial/Smith hybrid where he was about to be thrown to death but was saved by Aku Aku, Lani-Loli, Akano, Kupuna-Wa, and Ika-Ika, so then with the power granted by the gems and Crystals he collected on the way, he transformed into Super Crash and fights the fused N. Perial/Smith and ultimately destroys him. Meanwhile Faye is saving Naomi Viroment from falling down to certain death as she pleaded her to come back so they'll be family again, and the fact joining someone evil is never a way to provide a better future, while Naomi refuses at first, but then later remembered how they first met as well as happy memories.

So Faye was able to save Naomi and they reconcile, before Crash the masks were able to repair the damage to the environment.

When Faye, Digger, and Naomi, along with Team Bandicoot and the Cortex Commando mutants returned to the New Beginnings Village, a sick Neil and Naomi reconcile as she changed her ways and Neil decided to retire and Naomi became head of the village as a way to redeem herself, while they were provided food and everything they wanted while Faye and Digger hopes they'll remain I contact with their friends.

— Neil’s life can be divided into two phases: pre-accident and post-accident. It takes him a long time to fully accept that reality and the fact that his legs are never going to work the same again. He wallows and becomes depressed for the first year or so post-accident, which is definitely exacerbated by the fact that the other students laugh and make fun of the way Neil walks.

— Georgie Parsons often forgets to take care of herself. She tends to forget (or ignore) her own wants, needs, or dreams in favor of other people’s. This is especially true with her younger sister. It takes a while for her to figure out how to stop doing that.

— Edmund has periods of time where he’ll obsessively check his pocket watch. This is especially true during the weeks leading up to the anniversary of his father’s death and the pocket watch had belonged to his father. He’s done that for years, although he checks it less often the older he gets.

i’ve been aching to commentate spirit phone’s commentary for ages. glad i finally got around to it, this was an ejoyable experience. liveblog below the cut

-i'm like half certain i've heard this commentary before. maybe not the whole way through & it was probably actual years ago

-nice hearing stuff like this. in-depth personal view of the album-making process. makes it seem like more of a real thing i could do myself someday

-i could probably go real in depth about neil cicierega/tally hall parallels specifically concerning like. the arc of their musical careers. but i won't, here

-wild how i legitimately don't care much about micheal jackson

-didnt we get a bunch of spirit phone stems from the needlejuice release/his patreon? we could probably hear the funny track he speaks of here in that

-i love hearing musical artists, especially neil cicierega, talking about the meanings of their songs. like, not only has this song been claimed to hell & back by the tumblr gays, but with later ones i just can't see where he gets these ideas from. also, claiming there's any one meaning or plot to a song just seems silly to me

-shoutout to neil reusing a midi from like, 1998, that he made at 12 years old, whose entire melody was reused for the main verses of everybody loves raymond. loved finding that out on my own 2 years ago. now it's common trivia in this fandom. not bad times

-it'd be neat if neil did individual trans tracks here like he did with view monstel, those things are half of why i consider it my favorite album

-it's a lot easier to ignore the creator's intended meaning behind a song when he can't even remember it. thanks neil

-ah! ancient aliens! my least favorite track on this album. i cant even claim to have the least interest in a popular one i've just generally not liked this one much from the beginning. so im curious to see what neil's got to say, i think ive been in ~new commentary zone for a while now

-anyway. newest update on the loolin not realizing a song's funky time signature front: i think this one's in 6/4. or at least switches a lot between time signatures. granted i dont listen to it very often for the reasons stated above

-see the way neil describes it. eldritch horror upon being visited by the unknown at a time when humanity'd hadn't even yet had a chance to imagine such a thing occurring. should be right up my alley. but the sound itself & many of the lyrics simply turn me away.

-must i specify i don't dislike it? spirit phone is neil's best album it not being my favorite doesn't mean i think it's bad yadda yadda nobody should be surprised by this it's not like anyone in these fandoms reads my liveblogs <3

-the transitions in spirit phone are much less view-monster transition tracks & more extended outros. view-monster's were a bit more intro than outro sure but they also seemed directed upon making a 2-way rather than 1-way bridge between tracks. or something like that

-buddy you ask if a musical idea has been used before odds are the answer is yes in this day & age the question is has it been used in the way you're using it. like sure this soul jazz record from the 60s that was sold out in kansas stores for a week used this bassline that youve found yourself copying. but seeing as youre using it in some angsty garage rock ballad type tune does anybody actually care

-i've never heard rush before however i disagree with neil's understanding of 6/4. 6/4 is meant to have emphasis (onbeat or another term i can't remember) on the 1st & 4th beat of every measure, which is greatly different from a measure of 4/4 then a measure of 2/4. it's why his 5/4 always sounds weird, because while it's recognizable in sequences of 10/4, it's more 2 measures of 4/4 with one of 2/4 tacked on the end. that's also how it's different from 3/4. i don't know much music theory but what i do understand i will fight to the death about

-"canonized" that's. a very interesting term to use when referring to a former president

-from now on i will interpret every love song directed at some unseen "you" to be inviting me to marry them for tax purposes. thanks neil for being an aromantic icon

-just gets me thinking yknow! what we consider weird/impressive in another species, in our own species- what kind of equivalent to that would there be from an outsider looking in? are there alien versions of the significances we place upon things, that we could never imagine? the limits of the human imagination mean we could never conceive of something else in the world that isn't, in some way great or small, just like us- and are we wrong for thinking that? such a juicy topic i wish there were a name for it because it's kinda hard to explain concisely

-spiral of ants. my second favorite song from this album, in fact. a good one to experience

-the vocals are just another instrument. they really truly are. i wasn't going into this commentary expecting to feel solidarity for neil cicierega in this chili's tonight on more than one occasion but here i am.

-like, his whole stance on interpreting songs is something i agree with almost entirely. you can take it at face value, you can dig to their very depths, you can listen to songs without caring what the lyrics mean whatsoever, and those are all fun. & yeah while any of these people can be annoying as one of the types who enjoys gliding on the surface more than anything i find those who dedicate themselves to figuring out the whole meaning of a song over anything else to be both slightly scary & slightly annoying <3 keep up the good work

Here’s my CotT OC!! Or FC?? He is Picus, as in King Picus from Roman lore. He only has been revived in my AU where Cronus is an ally/mentor to the heroes. “Pike” became a minor deity of farming and bow hunting in ancient Italy. He is a son of Cronus (called Saturn in the AU). Pike was turned to stone by Circe the witch, and was presumed dead for thousands of years.

In regular CotT universe, he was excavated and displayed in a museum. But in the AU, the Heroes found him before archaeologists and were able to revive him! Following this, Hermes granted him the gift of “you can also speak English now”, which helps him communicate with the gang. His left arm broke off over the centuries, so Hephaestus made him a new one. He stays mostly with Demeter to help her on the farm, but visits the kids in the city sometimes. 

 In my fanfic “The Other Side of the Drachma”, Pike has a huge crush on  AU Herry, and AU Herry has a huge crush on him. But they’re super oblivious. AU Neil is making it his mission to play match-maker...
