I came across this post on twitter a few days ago of a writing challenge for the month of March, and I think not only will it help me be more comfortable writing, but also help me understand my tav(s) a bit more. I've decided to primarily focus on Luci since she's my first tav.

Today's prompt is "What are Tav's parents like?" There is a little bit of Luci x Astarion at the end because I couldn't help myself, but this is more so a bit about Luci and her backstory! I hope you enjoy!

Also, I've thought a lot about this and I imagine Lily Gladstone as the face claim for Luci's mom, Daphne. I'm just shit at descriptions lol

Luci couldn’t remember much before her mother found her wandering the woods alone; not her name, or her biological parents, or why she was in the woods in the first place. All she knew was that in the last few years, she had survived side by side with the animals of the forest and built bonds with quite a few of them to the point of being able to become one. But then her mother came across her on her way back to Baldur’s Gate after a well-needed vacation away from the city. 

Daphne was horrified to see a frail tiefling child without any supervision to be seen. She had clearly been able to take care of herself, but she was still visibly unweight, and the elven woman knew it would be a miracle for a child to survive any longer in the wilds alone. 

“Hello,” she was careful approaching the girl, speaking in a hushed tone and keeping a neutral expression on her face. She wasn’t sure when the last interaction the child had with anyone beyond the animals of the forest, so she didn’t want to scare her, “My name is Daphne Hana, may I know your name?”

The girl with pale pink skin watched the woman cautiously for a few minutes before bursting into tears, trying to communicate back but not being able to speak through her sobs. She had seen others often on the trails and such, but it was rare anyone stopped and talked to her. They saw a lost child, a tiefling at that, and turned their heads as if they saw nothing. To be seen and spoken to in such a soft way was overwhelming for the young one. 

Daphne stopped a gasp from escaping her lips and potentially scaring the child more; instead, she kneeled down to her height and held her arms out to give the girl a choice. It doesn’t take but a second before tiny horns are clumsily nudged against the tan cheek of the older woman and little arms are clinging to her shoulders. The elf wrapped her arms around the girl protectively, gently petting her wild burgundy hair. 

“Would you like to come with me? I have plenty of room for a little one such as yourself,” she promised, leaning back a bit to see the child’s face. She watched as many emotions crossed the small girl’s face before being given a nod against her shoulder, “Do you have a name?” The girl sniffled again and shook her head, either not trusting her voice or not knowing how to use it properly. Daphne smiled softly, “Then we’ll have to find you one, won’t we? Now, come,” she stood up and held her hand to the girl, which is quickly grabbed by a tiny hand, “We’re still quite a way from Baldur’s Gate, but we’ll be there soon enough,” she assured the scared girl as they walked to the wagon Daphne had been driving beforehand. She allowed the child to pick if she wished to sit in the back, telling her she’d make a soft pallet if she wanted to sleep or simply lay down, or if she wanted to sit in the front with her. The tiefling took a second to decide, ultimately yawning and letting her savior pull blankets into a nest and securing the wagon canvas to mostly block the sun from her eyes. She also was handed a few rations, which she picked at between naps on their way.

It took the rest of the day for the pair to arrive at Baldur's Gate, the child admiring every structure and person they passed. Daphne happily explained what each building was for when a pink index finger intensely pointed at them, glad that the difference in woods and the city didn’t seem too overwhelming for the kid. It didn’t take long before she parked the wagon and horse in front of a home, which she informed the girl was her house. It’s a quaint little place in the middle of Lower City, two stories, but the second story was solely two bedrooms, while the bottom floor was the living spaces. In the entry room, the shelves filled with books quickly intrigue the young one. 

“We’ll explore tomorrow, darling,” Daphne smiled at her, “It’s late and we need to get you settled for the night.” She guided the tiefling up the stairs, which was a feat in itself since the child clearly had no clue what stairs were. Eventually, Daphne relented to picking her up and carrying her to the top of the steps before leading her to the spare bedroom. It had already been set up as a guest room so it didn’t take much to set it up for the child to be comfortable, “I’m right across the hall should you need me, don’t be afraid to wake me if you do,” she leaned over and kissed the pink forehead between the nubby horns after tucking her in, “Good night, sweet one.”

The night went surprisingly well, with only one incident of the child climbing into bed next to the elf. She didn’t complain at all, instead she made room and smiled at the trust she’s receiving. 

As the sun rises, so does Daphne. She carefully pulled herself from the cuddles of the child and went downstairs to make a quick breakfast. She pondered over what to cook, before deciding on a simple eggs and bacon meal. The girl she found needed protein and she figured that combination would both be easy on her stomach as well as hopefully help bring her some energy for this morning. She’d have to do some research later on tiefling diets, but she was sure meat would be welcomed. She brought the tray of food up to her room, almost dropping it when she heard sobs. She quickly placed the food on her nightstand and wrapped her arms around the child.

“Gone,” the first word spoken from the pink tiefling, and it broke the motherly woman’s heart. 

“No, no, I was still here,” she tried to calm her quickly, “I was downstairs, I was making you food.” She assured her, reaching over to grab a plate without letting go of the girl, “See, food.”

The tiefling child turned her head just enough to look at the plate before looking up at the woman who had taken her in, “F—Food,” She repeated as her tears slowed, “For me?”

“Yes, dearest,” Daphne laughed softly, glad her new little friend was warming up and able to use her voice, “Go ahead and dig in, I’m sure you’re starved.” The elf watched the girl hesitantly take the plate into her lap and pick at the food with her fingers, completely disregarding the fork handed to her. Daphne figured such would happen, so it wasn’t an issue. It wasn’t long until the plate was cleared, and they were set for the day to start.

“Luci? Luci, my dear, have I finally lost you?”

The pink woman looks up from the book she had found while snooping around a random empty house they came across, “Hmm? Oh, yeah, no, I’m… I’m still here,” She laughs with embarrassment as she sees her vampiric friend in front of her with his eyebrow raised. Her smile falls a bit as she looks down at the book again, opening to one of the first pages, “This is the book my mother always read to me as a child; the first one she read to me the day after she sorta adopted me actually. It’s… it’s how she gave me my name…” She runs her fingers over the weathered page as she remembers that night clear as day, “Lucille, a spirited adventurer with a passion for unraveling ancient mysteries, set out to explore the Whispering Woods.” She reads with a sad smile, she misses her mother so much right now, “Lucille Woods.” This is the first time she’s spoken her full name out loud to any of her recent companions, as well as the first time she’s given a bigger glimpse at her past and her life in Baldur’s Gate. And to the companion she was still fairly hesitant about, she’s definitely going to beat herself up later over giving him even a sliver of something to hold over her if he so desired… 

Astarion watches her reminisce and, for once, doesn’t have a smartass comment to make. Instead, he lets her have her moment before smirking, “You’re named after a ‘spirited adventurer’ and you became one yourself? That really does just describe you with a neat little bow, now doesn’t it, darling?”

Luci crinkles her eyes with a smile at his jest as she closes the book, stuffing it in her bag, “I feel like that’s your flowery way of calling me annoyingly perfect, to which I say a-thank you,” She giggles before slipping her arm around his and starting to lead him out of the house, “Come on, we should regroup with Shadowheart and Wyll and head back to camp; it’ll be getting dark soon, and Gale promised me breakfast for dinner tonight! I’ve been excited for eggs and bacon all day; I don’t think I can wait another moment!”

The pale elf resists the urge to yank his arm away from the touchy girl; he doesn’t think he’ll ever get used to how physically affectionate she is even after their short while of knowing one another, but he needs her protection so he must pretend not to be affected by it for now. He thinks, as they continue to find the other two and start walking to their campsite, that maybe if he acts interested enough in her family life, she’ll start trusting him even more. She’s incredibly and stupidly sweet, so it won’t take much… and he must admit, he actually is curious about her upbringing and what exactly ‘sorta adopted’ means for her and her mother.

random weasley-wood children headcanons (bc obviously im ignoring percy's canon wife, sorry audrey)

so in canon percy has 2 kids: lucy and molly ii. when i made up the weasley-wood kids i named the eldest lucy without knowing of the canon lucy's existence, so i just thought i'd give that as a fun fact. anyways onto the children

lucille weasley-wood, better known as lucy (percy only calls her lucille when he's worried she's about to hit one of her cousins in the face with a bludger), is a ravenclaw. she's in the same year as lily potter and rose granger-weasley, and the eldest of the three (think of them as the new marauders without peter. basically, they prank people).

if it wasn't obvious from that bludger comment earlier, she's a beater for the ravenclaw team. she's been a beater ever since oliver taught her what the position was (so she was like 1, probably) because "come on dad, i get a bat".

lucy is generally a confident person, and has a bit of a reputation from her cousins (and her parents) for being a blabbermouth. every time there's a secret that needs to be kept, it's rose and lily's job to get lucy as far away from it as possible. she protests, but honestly, she knows it's for the best.

lucy ends up with henry, another ravenclaw in her year and the other ravenclaw beater (and the eldest of my 2 oc kids of dean and seamus). they bond over being extremely protective over their younger siblings (henry is honestly kinda scared of lucy but who isn't at this point).

she ends up playing professional quidditch for the hollyhead harpies and becomes an announcer after that.

skye weasley-wood, the middle child of the three, is a hufflepuff and the only one who doesn't play quidditch (you bet oliver tried. percy told him to stop torturing their children after the fourth time lucy knocked skye off his broom). skye is, as some of you may have guessed, named after the isle of skye in scotland, which is where i hc oliver to be from.

skye is definitely more on the studious side, preferring to read than to do physical activity of any kind. in truth, he's rubbish on a broom. his favorite form of transportation is floo travel, even in adulthood.

skye doesn't have any cousins or family friends in his year, nor is he remotely connected to any hufflepuffs other than teddy (who is long graduated from hogwarts). luckily, in his second year, his younger sister and her friends decide to befriend him (read: force him to join their group because if they want to be better pranksters than lily, rose, and lucy, they need someone in hufflepuff on their side). skye doesn't really mind.

skye's favorite teacher is neville longbottom, and with the help of neville's plant knowledge, he helps out in some truly spectacular pranks. (lucy can't figure out if she's supposed to be angry or proud, so she torments him with an array of zonko's products before settling on both. skye, whose hair is green for the rest of term, is not as pleased with this decision as she is.)

despite his inability to fly and his extreme fear of splinching, skye manages grades rivaling percy's on his newts and decides to be an auror. one day, he takes percy's job as the head of the department of magical law enforcement.

katie weasley-wood, named after katie bell, is the girl everyone says takes after percy the most. she's a slytherin like him, and even though she seems much more outgoing, anyone who knows percy knows that they truly are one in the same. she's a monster on a broom and ends up playing seeker for slytherin after albus graduates. (she's keeper in the year they're both playing, and she's surprisingly good for a 2nd year. at least, she's surprisingly good for the split second before people remember she's oliver wood's daughter.)

katie is not one to be outshone, so when she finds out that her older sister is part of a pranking trio, she gets together a group of first years (and skye), determined to be better. (and mcgonagall thought the weasley twins were bad.) she will destroy you, but she will do it with a smile on her face. be warned.

Ooo I love these questions!!

When I make character playlists, whether ocs or canon characters, I like to kinda do a mix of vibes and what I think they’d listen to. Sometimes it’s not always possible simply because I have ideas of the type of music they’d listen to and I don’t always enjoy that genre! So it feels pointless to make a playlist that I don’t like the music of, so I’ll go with vibes instead.

As for my tavs’ music tastes:

Luci would be very into pop, mostly bubblegum pop and folk pop!! She’s listen to anything, but she would definitely be a Maise Peters girlie!!

Noah Kahan is the most reoccurring artist on Twig’s playlist, so I think she’s enjoy his music a lot. (Northern Attitude with Hozier speaks to her soul.) But she also would like pop rock, something angrier sounding but still soft enough to casually listen to as well.

Rhea’s radio would permanently be on the “60s, 70s, and 80s” station and would never allow it to be changed. She would love modern music with that sounds too, like Lana Del Rey. I feel like she’d listen to some fun bubblegum pop here and there too though!

Where can your Tav be recruited?  Are they first encountered on the Nautiloid, or in the Nautiloid crash region?  Or are they not recruitable until a later act?

Luci: I feel like it's a cheap answer to say you can recruit her at the druid grove, but I can't think of anywhere else she'd be. She'd just feel a pull there after the crash since she is a druid after all! She's off by herself though, probably right in the front by that cart close to the gate, and clearly not a part of the tiefling refugee group in the grove despite being a tiefling herself. She's shy when you approach her, assuring you that she's fine, but her thoughts as the tadpole enters her mind would say otherwise. She's overwhelmed, scared, and just wants to go home for once. She'd be the one to ask if she can tag along with you to find a cure and go home to Baldur's Gate. Twig: I feel like you'd first encounter her to the east of the Blighted Village, down by the river, and since she often times tries to mask as being strong and unbothered, I think it'd be ironic if she was actually hurt when you approach her. She'd still act as if she could fight you, if need be, but the tadpoles would connect, and you'd see she's terrified and really beating herself up over twisting her ankle. You'd have to offer aid and be the one to suggest her join you, and she'd need a bit of convincing, like the dialogue would go "Are you sure you want me and my twisted ankle to waste your resources and join you?" ("It's not a waste if you join our group and help." or, "You can figure your situation out alone then.") "Okay, fine, I'll join you, but don't expect a grand gesture as thanks any time soon." Rhea: My girl is an act 2 companion! She's just flying by the seam of her pants and doesn't know how she even got to the Last Light Inn in Shadow-Cursed Lands in one piece, but she did, and she's desperate to get home to her father. They don't live in Baldur's Gate, but it's the nearest place of civilization that she can send a letter to her father to let him know she's, for the most part, okay and she's coming home. Like Luci, she'd be asking if she can join your journey and she'd compensate you in any way she's able.

4. What sort of general actions raise or lower their approval?

Luci: Answered!! Twig: The logical options get her approval, but also anything that directly goes against any authority. She's a noble, but she grew up resenting any authority and anything that was meant to make her/her family look perfect, so to go against that makes her respect you more. To get her approval to lower, you go with the options to side with authority and order. Rhea: To get her approval, you'll find that she wants to do what right, like Luci, but she also prefers to skirt around and avoid confrontation a lot more than Luci would. Luci doesn't really mind a fight if it's necessary to get where she needs to be, whereas Rhea would rather not be in the situation at all, so if you can get your party out of a situation and away from bloodshed, you'll win her heart. Her approval lowers when you immediately attack without any other interactions.

6. Do they have any secrets that can be revealed? What are the prerequisites for this secret coming to light?

Luci: Not a big, huge secret, but she's embarrassed of her beginnings. She doesn't know her who her biological parents are, why she was left in the woods as a young child or if she was even left and not just lost. I mention it here that she'd open up at the tiefling party as a romance scene, but she'd eventually bring it up again if not romanced, probably when you see the tieflings again at the Last Light Inn. She'd be surrounded by the tieflings again and still feeling like an outsider despite also being a tiefling, so if you talk to her in the inn, she'd open up about why she looks so uncomfortable. Twig: She definitely keeps her noble status a secret, but once you get to Rivington, she'd get recognized as Lady Seraphina Crimson, the daughter who ran from her own wedding. Her distain for authority and nobility would already be known before this, she would make it very well know, particularly with how she interacts with Astarion considering how he seems to act like nobility in sorts, and with Wyll, since he technically is in that realm as well. (She's more lenient with Wyll though because he's not as showy as Astarion.) There's no getting around her secret being reveal, but if you have high enough approval, she'll explain why she hates being a noble so much, and that's simply because she hates having to be perfect and without flaws when she knows she'll never be that since she possesses wild magic. She'll never be able to live up to the Crimson name and that scares her. Rhea: She's a fairly open book, not too many secrets. Though she does keep her family life to herself, much like the other two. She wouldn't open up until you get to Baldur's Gate. She'd break down once her approval is high enough with you because she's ashamed she felt too embarrassed to tell you about her past. Her mother and father separated when she was younger and she took her father's side, running away from her mother's to stay with him, only for her mother not to look for her. She feels like she meant nothing to her mother and has an insecurity that she doesn't mean much to anyone, so she covers it up with a sunny, happy-go-lucky personality.

7. What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party?

Luci: Again, I mentioned it here, but she's at her tent trying to read, only if it's the tiefling party. (She leaves if you side with the goblins.) She's never been to a party before and she's surrounded by a race that she should feel a kinship with since she's a tiefling, but she was adopted and despite her adoptive mother's best efforts, she doesn't feel connected with the race that much. So, she much rather be in her comfort spot of her tent with a book, not wanting to feel out of place among with the tieflings. Twig: She's definitely socializing because, either way, she loves partying since it would directly be against her parent's wishes. She's Rhea: She's an act 2 companion, so she wouldn't be at the party unfortunately. But if she was, she'd be at the beach or the

15. How do they react when the Dark Urge first reveals their amnesia and murderous thoughts to them?

Luci: Answered! Twig: "We all think about killing people every now and then, you're not alone... Oh, you mean all the time? Interesting... Well, just know I will fight back if you come after me." Rhea: "Oh, that's terrible! Maybe it'll help if you, like... meditate? Talk to someone? Sometimes I get hangry, maybe you just need a snack!"

Luci: Answered! Twig: She needs to be flirted with, she's much too proud to confess before the player. Love is a vulnerability in her mind, so she's not gonna show herself as weak first. Rhea: She'll approach the player if her approval is high!! She'd be shy about it but she's also not afraid to admit her feelings. She understand that she could be rejected, and that's okay! You never know if you never speak up!

8. If they’re poly, do they have a reaction to the PC engaging in a relationship with Halsin?

Luci: "So... do I get a slice of him as well, or are you going to be selfish with the mountain?" (said endearingly and jokingly.) Twig: She's not poly, she's very much a one partner kind of girl. Rhea: Also very monogamous, unfortunately.

Luci: She wants to write a book of her adventures someday, so she has kept journals upon journals of her previous travels. She fell in love with nonfiction books when her adoptive mother was teaching her how to read and she's been inspired by many pieces of literature to take that course in life. She's taking note of this trip in a journal as well, but she's not certain she'll publish it because of how intense it is compared to her simplistic adventures. Twig: She has a younger twin sister named Ophelia, who she deeps the golden child and more worthy of the title of Crimson heir. As stated previously, she was running away from her own wedding when she mindflayers abducted her because she didn't want to conform to her parents idealize version of herself, and it was actually Ophelia who convinced her to do what she feels is right. She just hopes Ophelia is able to have more of a choice than she has since her disappearance. Rhea: She loves to cook, it's one of her favorite things to do. When her and her father would move to new towns, her first order of business is to cook or bake for her neighbors. She often makes a variety of cookies or brownies to meet the people in the neighborhood, she loves give gifts when introducing herself to new people!

I'm gonna be real, I haven't got this scene and idk what the context is... but Luci is a very nonjudgmental person, so she's probably just gonna say "Whatever gets you going. Different strokes for different folks, that's the saying, right?"

4. Do they have a special romance scene at the tiefling/goblin party?

I really need to think about this, but I think so, only the tiefling party though. (She would leave if you sided with the goblins.) She's probably at her tent reading a book because she's never really been to a party before so between that and being in a space with so many of her own race when she wasn't raised around tieflings, it's a bit overwhelming and she wants to hide. If you approach her, she'd probably explain that to you and it's the first time she's opening up about being adopted and, despite her adoptive mother's best efforts to keep her familiar with tiefling culture, how out of place she feels around the other tieflings. The player would have the option to tell her that it's okay that she feels uncomfortable, but she also has a chance to ask about things she's unfamiliar with if she wants, especially since they saved the tieflings and they'd probably be more inclined to answer her curiosity now. She'd reply about how she appreciates the player's encouragement and would take it into consideration, followed with a kiss to their cheek as thanks before telling them to go enjoy the rest of the festivities.

Luci will leave if the player sides with the goblins, considering she's a tiefling herself. She may not have been raised around other tieflings, but those are still her people. She gets a significant boost of approval if they side with the teiflings, though!

"... I would've done the same, I can't even judge you for that. Huzzah for curiosity, I think?"

13. How do they react to the PC either allowing Astarion to ascend or convincing him to spare the 7000 spawn?

If Astarion ascends: "Well, let's hope this doesn't bite us in the butt... or the neck." If he's convinced to spare the 7000 spawn: "I'm proud of him, he's come far from the Astarion we first met. Maybe I'm, err I mean we're rubbing off on him."

15. How do they react when the Dark Urge first reveals their amnesia and murderous thoughts to them?

"... Okay, so what we're going to do is sit here and talk this out. What are we thinking right this second? And do you think you can just... I don't know... just not act on them? Or maybe give me all your weapons..."

Romance

1.Is your Tav a romanceable character? Are there any specific requirements to romancing them?

I think Luci would definitely be a romanceable character!! I think you just have to go with the kinder options, but also be adventurous to get her approval up.

2. Does your Tav need to be flirted with to start the romance, or will they approach the PC themselves if approval is high enough?

She would have to be flirted with, I think, but her options would be very obvious because she's a bit oblivious. She would approach the player if her approval is high enough though!

6. How do they react to the player character breaking up with them, or choosing another character over them?

"Oh... I, hm... Give me a moment, please... I appreciate your honesty and value the fact you hold enough respect for me to tell me how you feel. You deserve the world, and if I'm not the one to give it to you, I'm glad at least [other character] is able to have a chance to. But once he/she steps out of line, come to me. I'll straighten them out, these claws aren't just a fashion trend, ya'know?"

7. What questions can Zethino ask the PC about Tav in the Love Test?

"A jack of all trades, what is her favorite hobby she has picked up?" (Reading or traveling.) "Such a bright light in the world, but behind the glow, there's fear. What is she most scared of?" (Being alone.) "Luci had a tough beginning to life, but she was saved by a wise teacher. What's the most important piece of advice she hass internalized?" (Just as kindness and respect can be given, it can be taken away as well.)

11. What are Tav’s plans for the future? Do they propose to the PC, or is marriage not something they’re interested in?

Luci would suggest marriage, but also be sure to make it known she'd be happy with them either way, and she'd prefer a few more adventures before a wedding or anything. She does want to keep traveling for as long as she can, so either way, she'd going to keep planning journeys around Faerûn with or without the player!
