Kat's beloved plotbunnies | The Sandman | Introducing JUNIPER SHAW in THE PRECOGNITIONS OF JUNIPER SHAW Sister, whispered a voice, or three voices all at once. Ah, fuck, thought Juniper Shaw. Sister. Oracle, overlapped the voices from the darkness and the point of light behind Juniper's eyelid moved, now shaped like the face of a woman, or the faces of three women all at once. A maiden. A mother. A crone. He's back, said the maiden. Juniper didn't ask who. That was knowledge placed inside her mind a moment and ions ago. Oracle, he's back. He'll be searching. Impossible. Juniper had seen him vanish, then she'd seen him die. The she'd seen him wallow in a silent rage behind a crystal wall. It was them who'd shown her all this and she really wished they would make up their mind, so that at least once to the question 'Where is Dream?' she could answer anything else than 'I don't know'. He's free. We'd seen him. Can't be. He'd been gone a hundred years and still his kingdom was blackened and desolate when she walked through it each night in a search for clarity to the ideas they had put within her, a pilgrim bound to wander until death, and she found nothing but silence and abandonment. Each morning she woke tired, for a hundred and five years, soles dirty with soot that wouldn't wash away and without a single answer to a thousand questions pooling at the back of skull.

Caz stepped back, his mouth in a firm line. Pacing, he grabbed his hair and looked up at the ceiling before evaporating into a white vapor.

“Oh, you’ve done it, now,” Jade said.

“What just happened?” the prince asked.

“He turned into a mist. He’s never been able to control that too well, so it only happens when he’s extremely frustrated.”

“When has he done it before?”

“Think I criticized an outfit of his or something. He’ll be back momentarily.”

Caz: When you’ve been around as long as I’ve had, you develop a thick skin.

Jade: Silver is not your color.

Caz (starting to atomize): Silver brings out my eyes, you prick!

Jade Shaw (she/her) and Caz Mraz (he/him)

Jade: Weirdly knowledgeable about stag beetles, water bugs, vinegaroons, and other sundry arthropods. Has a stick-and-poke kit in a shoebox under her bed, used only once. Soft™ despite efforts to hide it. Hometown is somewhere dry and desert-y.

Caz: Oh, like SO obsessed with picture encyclopedias as a kid, especially fictional ones about wizards and dragons. Eats a lot of salads, likes ones with dried cranberries best. Favorite season is winter, really into pine & juniper scents.

First post on Tumblr and it’s OC art! Woo! Introducing the cast of Grimm Tales, created by @governessknt609 and myself. It’s a story that revolves around Theo Morgan, a sorcerer and detective who runs an apothecary shop in downtown Seattle, WA called the Juniper Tree. With the help of his student, his best friend and his various companions, Theo fights to keep the darker forces of magic and the supernatural at bay.

From bottom to top: Carter Evans (the Clandestine), Willow (wil-o-wisp turned human), Jason Morgan (homicide detective), Callisto (snake familiar), Othello (bat familiar), Conrad “Asher” Ashland (immortal knight), Amari Shaw (sorceress apprentice) and Theo Morgan (master sorcerer/mystical detective).

Underwing Challenge, Day 3

First off, thank you folks for the comments and tags on my last two posts, they were really sweet, and I'm glad to hear other people are excited about my trashfire of a vampire and witch pair. On to Day 3:

3. Who is your main cast? Describe as many of your OCs as you can cram into one post.

So, I again was putting this off, in part because I was torn between info-dumping as much as possible on every character in "Something Wicked," and keeping it concise. I'm hoping for a happy medium, here:

Jade Shaw: A witch with the ability to calculate an outcome's exact percent chance, which is useful both as a mathematics PhD student and an odds-maker and poker player. Aloof in part because visions can occur when she touches someone, but also because she isn't a fan of most people. Loves her familiars pet lizard, tarantula, and two cats. Keeps her ancient pickup truck running on a combination of magic, ingenuity and luck. Wishes these visions of the end of the world would lay off a bit.

Caz Mraz: A vampire and former hit-man, with a reputation stretching back to Vegas's organized-crime days. Speaks 16+ languages, plays 4+ instruments, and is an excellent dancer. Falls for anyone who could beat him in a fight. Trying to quit smoking and hypnosis; hasn't laid off the drinking, though.

Violet Anouilh: A hedgewitch specializing in plants and potions, who can offer some sunshine in this dark world. Living on her mother Marie's farm, which offers shelter to vampires, werewolves and other creatures most witches shun. But unlike her mother, she doesn't always trust these creatures, including a certain vampire and his influence on her girlfriend.

Ruby Hall: Jade's best friend and a performer at the casino as assistant to magician Dominic the Great — who is actually her pet rabbit Domino under a glamour she casts. Likes whiskey and handsome strangers. Caz has compared her allure to that of Mae West's.

Lila Brown: A werewolf living in and around the city's tunnels as she continues to struggle with her painful monthly transformations. Possibly one of Caz's best friends, but won't forgive him for something that happened in the past.

Amelia: Caz's former girlfriend, who left him after interpreting his secretiveness and strange habits as signs of a drug addiction. Caz is determined to win her back. Spoilers.

Kenny Brooks: A detective who is on the verge of retirement — mainly because he keeps spouting theories about two suspects seen around seemingly unconnected homicides and disappearances. Likes Caz and how he reminds him of the good old days; does not trust Jade.

Theoris Myrina: The head of the Southwest Coven of witches. Jade's former mentor who barred her from the coven after learning she made a deal with a vampire. Scarred by her persecution as a witch in ancient Greece.

Juniper, or the Álfheimr Prince: After Caz quit the contract-killing business, he took up work as a bodyman. The Álfheimr Prince (Fae do not like giving out their names) hired him while he picks up an ancient piece of jewelry in the city. Dating Juni is just an extra perk for Caz, as well as the possibility of stealing this ancient, magical item.

Minnie, or Meridiana the succubus: Not actually in this first book I'm working on, but she comes up in a lot of my posts. Minnie is a demon who feeds off sexual energy, life force, and the occasional bit of human flesh. She and Caz met while trying to eat one another — real meet-cute. Both immortal, incredibly strong, and absolutely insatiable, their relationship is perfect — on paper.
