pt. II HERE SHE IS
chapter seventeen. the wolf rises
female F1 Driver OC | Masterlist
Jolene keeps on going, no matter what tries to stop her.
TW: Swearing, attempted assault aftermath, violence/blood, mentions of misogyny, death and SA.
a/n: pretty rough time, there's no descriptions of the moment just after and mention people saying crazy stuff - jolene is pretty angry after she stops being sad - as she should be

8th JULY 2023
THERE'S A CRACK AND BLOOD ON JOLENE'S FACE, AS SHE MOVES HER NOSE BACK INTO PLACE. She shouldn't do that; but she has before. She swipes the blood away, there's other blood on her hand that isn't hers. It's from the man that security is leading away. Jolene feels Susie's hand on her shoulder, asking if she's ok. There's other people too. Jolene's nose is throbbing but all she can think about suddenly is qualifying. The man definitely wanted to stop her and so she couldn't let him. Jolene had to get in that car and Qualify. She needed to get in the car.
"Have I missed Quali?" Jolene asked the crowd in front of her. As well as Susie it included Piper, Rachel, Daniel, Tyrese, Aiko, Zoe and Mick. They had all rushed here from across the paddock and garages after hearing of it happening, the story had spread quickly.
"Jolene..." Piper tries to caution as Ashley and Sarah arrive at the edge of the group.
"I need to do Quali," Jolene says decisively, it's not a request.
Tyrese sighs, but he knows he can't stop her, "You need tissues," he tells her, "Come on,"
Jolene walks into the garage with five minutes left of Qualifying. There was a bloody tissue in her hands which she abandons as she puts on her gloves and helmet. Ignoring all the pain.
"Is she okay?" Mark, the team principal walks over to ask Tyrese.
"She's getting in the car," Tyrese says. He shrugs, he doesn't know what to do, "Her nose is definitely broken," he comments.
Mark grimaces at the fact she's put her helmet on over it, "That's no good," he says before returning to his position at a computer screen.
"And out goes Wolfie," Crofty said in the commentary box as her car rolls out of the garage, "She doesn't have much time,"
"I'm surprised she got in the car," Martin says, the attack had already been discussed across the paddock and on the broadcasts, "Its admirable,"
Jolene didn't have enough time or enough focus yet to put in her best lap. It wasn't good enough. "Sorry Jolene, that p16," her engineer tells her regretfully over the radio.
"Fuck!" Jolene exclaims on the radio.
When Jolene makes it back to the garage she is angry and hurt. Her nose is throbbing, her fingers on her right hand hurt. She just wants to go home. She has failed, this was a waste of time. She messed up and now she might be out.
As she thinks this Mike approaches her and says, "You need to go to the med centre," he's looking at her sympathetically through the helmet she's still wearing.
"I'm not talking to the media," Jolene says, she can't do that.
"I agree," Mike says, he didn't think she needed that either, "If they fine you, we'll pay it," he assures her, it would be the least Aston Martin could do if the FIA fined her for not talking to the media after a session like she was obligated too.
"Thanks," Jolene says, smiling sadly before Tyrese appears to walk her to the Medical Centre.
-
JOURNALISTS CROWD OUTSIDE ASTON MARTIN. In front of them, confident assured, stands Piper. She holds her notebook in front of her, even though she doesn't need it, it's just to have something to hold like all the journalists pointing phones, microphones and cameras in her direction. There's Jolene's press officer for Aston Martin recording what she says the same way she does for Jolene to make sure she's not misquoted. Jolene has left medical and is currently hidden away in a motorhome, she's sure she's preparing to go home. Daniel is there too.
"Hello I am Piper Mclean, Jolene W. Pond's publicist," Piper begins, she is confident and knows what she's doing, "Jolene is not doing any press today. Jolene was on her way to Qualify when she was attacked and it is admirable she even got in the car and got p16," she states, her tone leaves no room for argument, "The incident is no doubt due to misogyny from people within this sport, consciously or not, which unchecked has encouraged misogyny within fandom spaces and empowered people to go even further than even the death threats they were sending Jolene," she tells them, making sure that everyone is listening, "Jolene is physically okay, she has a broken nose..." that she got from head butting the attacker at the start of the encounter but Piper doesn't explain that, "...and has sprained her right ring and pinky finger," from punching the man, "Jolene will race tomorrow," Piper announces decisively, they had cleared her and they'd have a hard time stopping her otherwise anyway, "If you have any questions I am ready to answer them, within reason," Piper says opening the floor to a barrage of questions, some of them she doesn't answer. Shutting them down with the phrase, 'thats inappropriate' instead of asking 'what the fuck is wrong with you?' which is what she really wants to say.
-
JOLENE STANDS IN HER DRIVERS ROOM. She looks down at her hand, tape on her  right ring and pinky fingers. They move differently, they feel different. They collided with that man's face away in her defence that became offensive, offensive enough to hurt her back. Just like the headbutt that broke her nose. He wasn't strong enough to do what he wanted. Not to Jolene, sadly Jolene is lucky. Someone else wouldn't be. She's lucky but she still failed her job. Though she has been reassured that Aston Martin has her back. Not to worry. She'll have to pull through tomorrow.
She knows Daniel is standing behind her, it's reassuring that she's not been left too alone since it happened. She wishes she could seek comfort in him but all she really wants is her mum.
Daniel walks in behind her, unsure what to do, whether a hug would be what she wanted now. He watches as she glances at her bag, "I presume I'm right in assuming you want to go home as soon as possible," he decides to say, he's reassured when she nods. Instead of trying to come up with a solution on his own he should ask her for one, "Is there anything I can do?"
Jolene feels the tears finally burst free after that, "I just want my Mum," she says turning to Daniel who instinctively knows to pull her into a hug.
He rubs her back comfortingly, letting her cry before saying simply. "Then let's go see her,"
Daniel drives Jolene the over an hour and a half journey to Wolverhampton, glancing over to her often worriedly as she stares out the window his hand tightly held in hers. He tells her to go on her own to see her mum. Jolene agrees, she needs it. He says he's gonna get flowers, but he also returns with fish and chips for them to share.
"Is that Fish and Chips?" she wipes a tear from her eye. As she watches him place the flowers on Mary Jane's grave. She had cried with her mum, unburdened her frustrations in the time he'd been gone. She needed this.
"Yeah," Daniel shrugs, "I just figured with the quote," he points to Mary Jane's stone where below her name and the date as well as the typical 'Loving Mother' is carved 'So long, and thanks for all the fish'. A quote from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which Jolene made him read.
Jolene lets out a watery laugh, "Good idea,"
Daniel sits down on the ground next to her, "I also thought you could do with eating something," he explains before pulling out the bag of the Wolverhampton specific orange chips and some battered cod as well as the expected mushy peas, "Or drinking something," he says handing Jolene a Ribena, her favourite drink.
"Thank you," Jolene kisses the corner of his mouth as she takes the drink.
"No problem," Daniel responds, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, frowning at the evidence of her broken noise, the red of her injury peeking out from underneath the bandage. She's unwrapping the fish and chips when he asks, "Did you discuss it?" he asks pointing at the grave stone, specifically the quote.
"The quote?" Jolene confirms.
"Yeah," Daniel nods, "Did she request that? Or did you come up with that?"
"She mentioned it once way before," Jolene says, "She also wanted us to play 'There She Goes' when they went to cremate her," Jolene laughs to herself, at the time she had somehow laughed around the balling, Daniel manages a small laugh too because she did before Jolene continued, "That was also way before. She also only wanted a buddhist ceremony, that was all she knew. She wasn't much up for planning in the end," those final days were hard, curled up on the edge of her hospital bed, the nurses were kind enough to let her stay, especially when her Great Aunt made the trip. Just thinking of watching the light leave her mum still ruined her, the other stuff she could handle. But those last few days, she doesn't know if she could ever verbalise it. The feeling when they had to tell her they couldn't save her world no matter how hard they tried.
"I can imagine that," Daniel says, frowning as he watches her stare off into space. He looks to Mary Jane's name written as if sharing a private moment of despair for the person they both loved the most in this world. It’s also as if Mary Jane's names and the monument honouring her could give him some clarity.
He looks down at the shitty wooden forks given to him at the fish and chip shop and decides to say, "These forks are awful," as he sticks one into a chip and brings it to his mouth. Jolene turns to look as he says, "Makes me think I should start bringing around my own ones," he adds.
Jolene lets out a small sad laugh, "My mum did that," she says glancing at the grave for a second, "She brought the plastic ones with her most places, especially when we were away at races,"
Daniel smiles, "Your mum might have been the smartest person alive," he tells her.
Jolene laughs, "I think so too," picking up the other shitty wooden fork and claiming a chip for herself, "I don't think you could handle it,"
"Well you're too smart for me sometimes and if she's smarter than you I would be screwed," Daniel says in response.
Jolene laughs again, "Thank you for bringing me here," she says once the moments past.
Daniel shrugs, "No need to thank me, it's the least I could do," he tells her, "I'm sorry this happened to you, and that I wasn't there to stop it happening,"
"I don't need you to save me," Jolene tells him, "I just need you to stand by my side as I save myself,"
"No problem," Daniel agrees easily, "You're a much better fighter than me," he says.
Jolene laughs, "Well I've had many a bar fight in my past,"
"I know," Daniel says, "It's hot,"
Jolene laughs again, "Not in front my mum," she pretends to be scandalised.
Daniel laughs, "I'm just appreciating her daughter for her many many positive attributes,"
Jolene smiles, "I don't think the bar fights are a positive,"
"They helped you today," Daniel says, "Not that you should have even been in that situation,"
"I kind of knew it was coming," Jolene says.
Daniel is shocked, "What?"
"There's some pretty horrible stuff online," Jolene says, "It does surprise me,"
"I didn't know," Daniel says guiltily, "Someone needs to do something about it,"
"Who?" Jolene says, "No ones going to save me from it. The FIA isn't going to..."
"Well they really should," Daniel says, "I will...."
"Daniel," Jolene stops him, "I don't know if there's anything you can do. And if there is, I don't want to figure it out now. I'm tired,"
"Okay," Daniel says, "You're right. You've got a win to go for tomorrow," he tells her.
"You think I can win from p16?" Jolene asks.
"Of course," Daniel says, before hesitating, "What do you not?"
"No, I just wanted someone else to say it," Jolene responds.
"I'm always gonna believe in you, Scrappy," Daniel says with a smile.

76 MILES AWAY AT THE SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT. Piper was still there, doing her job. She also knew that Jolene was still in Wolverhampton, Daniel had texted her about the fact he was driving Jolene there to see her mum and that they'd arrived. It was good for Jolene to get away from here if nothing else. Piper was walking through the paddock when she saw Lewis, someone she had been hoping to run into. She walks quickly in his direction, stopping outside Mercedes and asking, "Lewis, hey, can we talk?"
"Hey, Piper, yeah totally," Lewis says, stopping upon seeing her, "How's Jolene?"
"As good as she can be," Piper answers, it's the best answer she can give, "Daniel has taken her to see her mom,"
"That makes sense," it takes Lewis a second but he understands what that means, "Let me know if there's anything I can do," he offers.
"Being supportive is going well. Thank you for what you said in the conference, that was well said," she tells him, Lewis was on Pole so he was in the press conference and said some great things and supportive things about what happened to Jolene, "Obviously I probably won't tell Jolene till tomorrow morning but I still might leave it," Piper says, she will tell her it was said but not in too much detail.
"Understandable," Lewis nods, "Is she going to be okay to race?" he knows she's cleared medically but he's talking about emotionally,"
"Jolene raced the weekend Stella died after qualifying terribly and she managed to make her way back to where she should have been. Jolene will be fine," she says matter of factly, "I know she wants to race tomorrow. Anyway I didn't want to talk to you about this,"
"What? Is there anything I can do?" Lewis asks.
"Yes, I want to talk to you about the F1 movie..." Piper begins.
Lewis sighs, "Is this Jolene's safety concerns again?" he does and he doesn't understand.
"No this is my concern as her publicist as to how she is being represented in the movie. As I know that it takes place in this world. I just want to make sure that Jolene's achievements and skills aren't being diminished," Piper explains.
"What are you worried about? That we'll take her wins from her?" Lewis isn't sure what she's asking.
"If this film does reach a lot of people I would like their first impressions of Jolene to be about her talent. This may not make sense but I wish to make sure that she is shown in the best light," Piper tells him.
"Everyone wants that," Lewis says.
"I don't think that is Brad Pitt's main priority. But it is mine so I wish to be informed of any mention/inclusion of Jolene in this movie so I can approve it," Piper requests, "She would like her involvement to be kept to a minimum. But even if there's an image of a headline or article mentioning her (which there should be) I want to approve it,"
"Yeah that makes sense," Lewis nods, "I'll have to talk with the production,"
"I'm sure we can work something out," Piper nods, accomplished, "Also I have already told Mr Pitt and Mr Idris but I think it would be good to hear it from you," she changes the subject and says quite sternly, "Tomorrow, they are not to talk to Jolene before the race or attempt to. I don't care how close they are in the lineup for the national anthem. She does not need the distraction or irritation,"
"Nor does she want to talk to them," Lewis adds, "But yeah I'll tell them. I don't think they will, I've told them not to for most people but I'll emphasise it," he assures, he understands especially after today how she wouldn't want to be distracted.
"Thank you, have a good evening," Piper says.
"No problem, you too," Lewis says before they depart.

JOLENE AND DANIEL WERE BACK AT HER FLAT IN NORTHAMPTON. They were getting ready to go to bed, they'd probably stay up a bit longer but it was good to get into their pjs. Piper and Rachel were back too and were in Piper's room that they were sharing. Daniel looks at the slightly dejected Jolene and thinks there's probably no better time than now. He walks to sit next to her where she'd sat on the edge of the bed, she's staring at the photo frame of her mum again.
"I was going to wait a bit longer to tell you but I have your birthday present sorted," Daniel tells her.
"It's not my birthday for more than a month," Jolene says, turning to look at him, "You don't have to tell me just because..."
"I misspoke, one of your presents," Daniel interrupts to correct, "It was also a congrats on finishing the first half of the season thing I just think you deserve to know now," he explains pulling out his phone and selecting a photo, "This is a photo of your chow chow,"
"My chow chow?" Jolene questions, shocked as she takes the phone showing a photo of a tiny puppy chow chow.
"Your chow chow," he confirms, "She's too young to be away from her mother but she's the sweetest and I'm paying for premium training, proper socialisation and stuff," he explains, "It's probably good if you meet her soon anyway, so you can bond,"
Jolene is shocked, she looks back at him and says, "You don't like dogs,"
"I like her, I've met her," he insists, and he means it, "Chow chows are also good for protection, not that you need it but it'll be good,"
Jolene double checks, "Are you sure?"
"Yes," Daniel laughs again, touched she was making so sure, "I wouldn't have done all this if I wasn't," he tells her, that seems to get to her, "Do you want to meet her next week?" he asks, "You can bond better,'
Jolene nods, smiling she leans over to kiss him after saying, "You're wonderful,"

9th JULY 2023
TRAINERS COLLIDE WITH THE RUNNING TRACK. Music blasts through headphones. Muscles pushing. Angry. Determined. Jolene laps the track. She's done being sad. Being sad isn't going to help her make up those 15 positions she needs to win. Angry will though. Being angry this happened. Angry that it was allowed to happen. Angry that some people are critiquing her for fighting back (the man was way more injured than her), for getting in the car, for not making it out of Q1. Angry men think they can do that. Angry that people are doubting that man's intentions.
Jolene knows his aim, she knew it the moment he grabbed her and she saw it in his eyes before she head-butted him, breaking both their noses. He wanted to do it because he wanted to take her apart, he wanted to punish her. This was about control. Ownership.
Tyrese was sat on the sidelines watching her run, Jolene had insisted on doing a long run. He's watching her closely, he almost doesn't notice Daniel arriving and holding out a takeaway cup of tea for him (Jolene won't want her coffee till later in the day). "Thanks, mate," Tyrese says as Daniel sits next to him.
"She's going to be fine," Daniel says, to reassure them both.
"Yeah, she's gonna be fine," Tyrese agrees, "She's going to be angry," he warns, "She's decided to be,"
"Good plan," Daniel says, "Is she getting security?"
"We haven't talked about it yet," Tyrese answers, "But I am going to be her shadow today,"
"Thanks man," Daniel says, "It had to be her didn't it?" he comments, a bit bitterly. Jolene has slowed down but she's not coming over, she's stretching on her own instead.
"She was running out of sad stories to tell you," Tyrese comments, standing up to walk over to Jolene.
Daniel lets out a laugh and a, "Yeah," as Tyrese walks over to Jolene.
-
JOLENE MAINTAINED HER ANGER. She only let it slip to wave to fans in that car parade she has partake in. She put on a slight smile as she waved to those people, but she wasn't really there. Jolene hated that she'd become distrustful of them, but that man claimed to be a fan too, even if it wasn't to her face. Luckily the press don't annoy her, she knows after she's risen back to the top tomorrow she can face questions but not now. Not till her redemption.
Piper continues to go above and beyond but so do all her friends. Jolene walks into the track surronded by her female friends, Piper, Rachel, Aiko, Zoe, even Ashley and Sarah, walking in with her instead of Ashley entering with Charles. Jolene needed her support more this weekend.
Jolene had music coming through her earphones as she walked to the Grid with 'Labour' by Paris Paloma playing, she kept coming back to the song about gender inequality. It kept her angry. She needed and wanted to be angry. It will keep her going.
Jolene stands, eyes closed, as the national anthem is sung. She really doesn't like that that's her national anthem, they need a better one. When she opens her eyes in front of her is Brad fucking Pitt offering a hand to shake. Jolene knows he doesn't want to shake her hand, that he's been told not to speak to her. He knows he's just being a dick. Jolene remembers the stories about his treatment of his kids and ex-wife. It makes her even angrier. Jolene glares at him like she wants to kill him before walking off, her death stare still on.
Tyrese watches it all go down, making a note to tell Piper and he says, "What a wanker," as they walk side by side to the car, further back than they're used to being.
"He's a cunt," Jolene says, handing Tyrese her wired earphones/phone after pulling them from her ears.
"Agreed," Tyrese says, helping her gently pull on her helmet and put on her gloves.
Jolene climbs into the car for the formation lap. Bottas was disqualified so that moves Jolene up to 15th, still 14 places away from where she needs to be. She will get there.
Jolene reaches out, caressing the photo of her mum smiling back at her. She remembers the number of women killed by men. The anger shifts to her feet as the lights go. The race has begun.

THE WOLF KNOWS HOW TO WIN. Driving more aggressively than Jolene has felt the need to in a long time, she normally has a cooler head on track, makes less risky moves. As risky as those moves where Jolene still knew she could complete them. Jolene made up 14 positions. In front of the crowd in her home country Jolene wins. Proving that you can't stop her, even from that far back on the Grid. This result was the one Jolene decided she was getting after she won her first Grand Prix.
There was a safety car due Hulkenberg's retirement, and both Alpine's had to retire but Jolene was unfazed.
Jolene held a British flag aloft for the crowd as she stood on the top of her British-Racing Green Car. After celebrating and running at her team Jolene ran to her group of friends, who had made their way to the front of the barriers for her to hug her. The friends she had walked in with all looked full of pride as they cheered her on.
Piper carefully helped her take off her helmet, so as not to hit her nose. Piper kissed her cheek before letting her go.
Without gloves and with her broken nose Jolene looked into the camera pointed at her holding up 3 fingers on her right hand, the taped fingers clear, as she raises her pointer finger to make it a 4. She has won 4 races now. She half smirks at the camera, and it was clear she was not done.
"Jolene, you should be proud. That was an amazing drive!" David Coulthard says when it's time for her to be interviewed, she had been vindicated she was willing to do interviews now. They hadn't fined yesterday at least, the FIA were that smart at least.
"Thank you," Jolene responds.
"You went for an aggressive tactic today," David says, "Was that always the plan for today or did that change due to the unfortunate incident before qualifying yesterday?"
"The attack changed the shape and plan of the weekend," Jolene explicitly states what happened to her, "We had to adapt this morning, I was not in a state to do anything last night. But I changed the plan and my attitude this morning," she says, "It was aggressive because I wanted it to be, and it clearly worked," she shrugs.
Soon she's in the cooldown room with Lewis, who was p2 in the race. Lando, p3, wasn't with them yet.
"That was impressive," Lewis tells Jolene as he sits in the chair.
Jolene is pacing while drinking the water, "That was necessary," she says abruptly, "But thank you," she realises he was giving her a compliment, "Sorry that sounded dickish. I'm still angry but I think I'm gonna need it afterwards,"
"It's fine, don't worry I understand," Lewis assures as Lando walks into the cooldown room, "I think you might need it too," he agrees on her anger, "I can try and help," he offers her.
"Back me up," Jolene tells him, glancing over to the screen replaying the race.
"Of course," he agrees easily, "We both will, won't we Lando?" he prompts the younger driver sitting down next to him to agree.
"Huh? Oh yeah," Lando manages.
On the podium champagne is sprayed on the all British podium at the British Grand Prix. Jolene sprayed champagne and celebrated but kept the press conference in mind.
As the winner Jolene sits in the middle of the sofa in front of the crowd of journalists, "Before we start I'm going to address yesterday and the fact I was attacked in the paddock," she says, not allowing the questioning to start, "It doesn't matter that I still won that shouldn't happen to anyone," she declares into the microphone, holding the rooms attention with her sternness/lingering anger, "I know what his aim was, and he wanted to take power and control from me," she tells them all, very few people had talked about the nature of the attacks. she knows what this was about even if she hasn't heard the man say it, "I knew what he wanted the minute he grabbed me. He wasn't attracted to me, he wanted to violate me and knock me down a peg. He doesn't see me as a human being, he sees me as a thing," she makes sure they all know. Jolene wants them to be uncomfortable as she says."It's the society we live in, and its the language and actions you perpetuate in this sport and outside of it,"
"It's in the language you use to describe me and other women. Even the male drivers," she says, "I don't have time to teach you and point out examples, find someone who's job it is to do this," it shouldn't be her job to educate them, "The writing is on the wall,"
"You look in comment sections about me and people, well men, are saying horrible stuff," Jolene tells them all, she doesn't read them but she's seen them and she knows they're there, "They're doing it on the F1 instagram and they do nothing. And I doubt they will," she says, "I'm not expecting anyone to do anything. I've never expected anyone to save me, that's why I fought back which some people have been criticising. Would you rather I just sat back and took it?" she becomes angrier, calling out the critiques, "Do you think I'd deserve it? Because I'm showing up the men?" Jolene challenges them to look within.
"You're not going to answer these questions but maybe think about it," she says, angry in her voice fading, "Sure I can handle this, but should I have to?" Jolene asks them, "And it's not just me this affects, it's the female fans who might feel unsafe and unwelcome in the sport we love. It's not them we should be excluding, it should be the horrible people. But you aren't doing that," she says before finishing with, "So maybe you should answer my fucking questions instead of asking me them for once,"
Jolene sits back on the sofa, anger still on her face. Before the questions can begin Lewis interjects.
"I just want to state my full support to Jolene and we should be doing more as a sport to combat this horrible language," he says, and Jolene knows he means it as he adds, "If we can't support one of our greatest talents, what is the point?"
He looks to Lando to prompt the younger driver, Lando remembers, "I agree," he doesn't have anything eloquent to say but at least he tries, "We should do our best to stop this,"
There's nods around the room of unsure journalists before they ask about the race.

INSIDE ASTON MARTIN THERE ARE CELEBRATIONS. Admittedly they're more subdued than they should be but Lance got 14th. Jolene doesn't want to bother pacifying that. It's not her fault she won. In fact it's not her fault Lance is not on her level. Jolene can wave the win she got him in Canada if people make a fuss, even though they should be happy she recovered from yesterday so well. She knows Mike is happy for her, and her side of the garage is, there's just some people close to Lawrence higher up. Anyway, her impressive race is going to improve her contract negotiations even more.
Jolene and her friends are hanging out just outside with team members when she approaches Zoe. She has something to talk about, "Zoe," Jolene calls as she approaches her where she was getting a drink.
"Hey, do you need something?" Zoe asks, worried that something is wrong after yesterday.
Jolene waves off her worries, "No, I was just thinking about Aiko and..."
"Sarah?" Zoe finished for her.
"Yes, do you see it too?" Jolene asked, they had met this weekend. Amongst her other issues and especially at this small celebration (Jolene was going home after this) she had noticed something between them.
"Definitely," Zoe agrees.
"I'll check with Ashley," Jolene declares.
"Are you okay?" Zoe checks before she does.
"'Course, don't worry I'm talking to my therapist tomorrow," Jolene assures, she glances around and calls out, "Ashley!" once she spots her.
"Hey winner!" Ashley says as she walks over, leaving Sarah talking to Rachel, glancing to Aiko talking to Piper.
"Hey, quick question," Jolene starts.
"Shoot," Ashley starts.
"Calm down Miss Americana," Jolene jokes, "You're in Britain,"
"Shut up," Ashley rolls her eyes good heartedly.
"Anyway, Aiko, Sarah, you see anything there?" Jolene starts on why she's here.
"Oh my god, I was just thinking that," Ashley declares, excited that someone else saw it and she's right.
"Jolene has an eye for this stuff," Zoe tells her, she knows that.
"She does?" Ashley confirms.
"Percy and Annabeth; Will and Nico; Mick and I; and Piper and Keira," Zoe lists off all of her successes.
"You're good," Ashley nods, impressed.
"I know," Jolene says, starting to plan, "So you're their best friends, what you got?"
Later someone knocks at the door of Jolene's drivers room as she finishes packing her bag to leave. Jolene opens it and it's who she was expecting, "Hey honey," Daniel smiles leaning in the doorway.
"Hey," Jolene says, leaning up to kiss him lightly.
"Do you wanna go home?" he double checks, there's still celebrations going on.
"Yes," Jolene confirms, grabbing her back.
"Your wish is my command," Daniel declares, gesturing for her to go first with a bow. Jolene laughs, shaking her head.
Jolene thinks about the meal she wants to eat when she gets home, "Do you know if I have hash-browns?"
"No..." Daniel says, not sure if he should know exactly what food she has in her kitchen yet.
"I want a fry up," she explains.
"We can go to the supermarket," Daniel suggests, and they do.

jwpond Saturday may have been rough but Sunday was a form of vindication. I came to Silverstone to win and I did. You can't stop me, you can only give me more obstacles. But I'm used to overcoming obstacles.
It was hard to lose so much at home but then it was so good to win here. Hopefully I can do it again in the future, without the broken nose.
I'd like to thank my team, my friends who showed up and stayed by my side today. But especially my main girls Piper and Rachel.
Now I'm going to devour this fry up! See ya!

JOLENE SITS FOR THE DRIVE TO SURVIVE ON EPISODE ON SILVERSTONE. It's at some point the week after when she answers questions about the incident. She doesn't want to discuss it too much but she does say, In some ways I'm surprised it took this long," she shrugs, because in some ways she really is surprised, "It's not an easy sport to be a woman and I'm under no dillusion that anyone is going to save me. I just hope I get out of their systems," Jolene says, thinking of the women who may come after her.
"Is it not hard?" the interviewer asks.
"I've had a lot of practice," Jolene says as an explanation, she's not lying but it's also not always easy either, "I know there's very little I can do. And I know they're the problem. Because I can do what they can't. Win," she says matter of factly, truthfully, and providing DTS with the sound bite they want.

SAT AT AN AWARDS TABLE IN LONDON WAS JOLENE, PIPER AND AJ. They (Jolene and Aj) had walked the carpet and Aj's award was about to be presented to him. Jolene was holding her notebook with her speech written in whilst she mentally prepared for the speech. It was going to be quite a personal speech, but Aj had approved it at least. The presenter of the event announces Aj's award before giving Jolene her queue, "Here to present is Jolene W. Pond,"
Piper squeezes her hand comfortingly before Jolene makes her way onto the stage, notebook in hand. Even though she can walk in heels but she hopes she doesn't fall, they are the green ones Aiko gave her for her outfit (Manolo Blanik's, that Jolene is nervous about ruining), so she's not used to them.
Jolene makes it to the podium and places her notebook on the podium before speaking into the microphone. "When I was 15 my Mum and I were the victims of knife crime. The feeling of seeing my mum on that floor bleeding out will probably never leave me. And I know the loss I feel without her never will," she began, looking mostly at Piper when she looked around the room, "One late night trip for milk changed my life forever," she said before hitting home the theme of the evening, "Knife crime destroyed my world, as everything in my life changed that night. And I lost the most important part of it,"
"In that alley two boys, that's what they were boys, confronted my mum and I asking for money," Jolene explains the story of that night, "They were desperate, scared, you're not driven to that without fear," she insisted, "My mum and I had none. One boy grew angry and stabbed my mum, pulling the knife out with him and dropping it on the floor. He pressured the boy to stab me too, in my lower left abdomen," she pointed at where her scar lived under her clothes, "They ran, and the knife still inside me I ran to the payphone, my mothers blood on my hands," she says, managing to push down her emotions.
"The boy who stabbed me didn't want to," she says, catching Aj's eye. Sharing knowing smiles, "He turned himself in and wrote me a letter," she explains, "He was sorry and he was scared," she looks around the room, that letter had been in her possession for a while before she read it, "I read that letter in New York, my life apart, after being urged by my new therapist. I felt very alone in that country so I wrote him back," she shrugs.
"He put in the work, and I forgave him, the boy who stabbed me. Let's call him A," she says, it was just to make it easier, "It would take to long to show you how but in some ways A was able to because someone was kind, because he was kind and I like to think I was," she says, "It's not the same with the boy who stabbed my mum, because he didn't clean the knife she got an infection and died," she remarks, she doesn't know if she can ever forgive him, properly, "So if you're ever going to do knife crime please clean your knives," she jokes, laughing lightly and getting some in return.
"Sadly, I may never be able to show him kindness but I hope someone else does," Jolene comments, seriously, "So he can show it to others,"
"2012 was the worst year of my life," Jolene declares, "I had to do my GCSEs and my mum died," she lists, "2017 came pretty close though, my girlfriend died, unrelated to knife crime that's a story for my anti-drunk driving award presentation," she jokes, "But A comforted me through it," she returns, "A was there with just a letter. He was rehabilitated, in some ways in-spite of the system,"
"A parole hearing came up, and for the first time in 5 years I saw A in person," Jolene says, "I came back to the UK that summer and I testified for him. He hadn't asked me too, I don't know whether that makes me or him the better person," she jokes lightly looking at Aj as she says it, "But he released. He often talked about wanting to make sure other people didn't suffer like we did. So A did something about it,"
"That year Aj Wallace founded the charity we're awarding," Jolene brings it back to the topic, "Aj if it wasn't obvious is the boy who stabbed me. It's an unconventional friendship," Aj nods in agreement.
"Aj has put in the work, he has repented for his sins as the religious might say. And I guess I am too," she says, "There are so many lives that Aj has improved, including mine. When I moved back to the UK for my career he was there for me. He offered me counsel and helping his charity gave me a sense of purpose outside of my career," she explained, "It also helped my career because through it I met my performance coach, Tyrese Smith, who my life would not run without."
"Together Aj and I made each other better people," Jolene declares, "He continues to make people's lives better even today. And he invited me here to make his award about me," she jokes, "There are so many people he has helped. Standing here now, it almost feels worth it," she then comments, "Aj I love you, no one deserves this more than you," she finishes.
They give her the award to hand Aj as he steps onto stage. They hug and he kisses her cheek before taking centre stage, "Thank you, especially to you Jolene," he begins, "Your forgiveness is something I will always treasure," he smiles at Jolene before turning back the crowd and giving his acceptance speech.

JOLENE GETS BACK HOME FROM THE EVENT. She and Piper had gotten the train home directly from the event, they were still in their outfits just with a bag of their other clothes. They had also taken their makeup off on the train whilst they remembered. Jolene had made her instagram post on the train and was ready to fall into bed where she knew Daniel was. That was what kept her walking, even in her heels, through the apartment. Even though she could collapse on the sofa or even in Piper's bedroom.
She tries to get into the room as quietly as possible so as not to wake Daniel. However she sadly does wake him up. She doesn't know what did it; just that after she's put her bag next to the bed and is next to her wardrobe he's turning on the bedside lamp.
"Sorry for waking you," Jolene grimaces, seeing him rubbing his eyes.
"No it's okay, I like to see you," Daniel insists.
"I like to see you too," Jolene smiles, "The light does make this easier," she says, taking off her dress to place it on the assigned clothes chair.
"Great view," Daniel comments as he watches her, "Even better," he says as she crawls into bed with him. She slides up to fit into his arms and rests her head on his chest, "Are you okay? It can't have been an easy speech to give," he says once she's comfortable, rubbing her hand up and down her spine.
"I'm fine," she insists.
"Tell me if you change your mind," he says before joking, "So what's it like dating Kel the Councilman?"
Jolene laughs before saying something she'd been thinking about, "I think maybe when it's summer break keeping it a secret doesn't matter anymore,"
"Are you saying you want to announce it?" Daniel asks, happy to take her lead; it would affect her career more than his sadly.
"No, just not hide it," Jolene says, she looks up at him to check, "Does that make sense?"
"Yeah," Daniel nods smiling down at her before saying, "You're beautiful,"
Jolene smiles back and responds in kind, "You're beautiful," before he leans down to kiss her. Her leg his brought up to wrap around his waist as he rolls on top of her.

THREE NATIVE BRITS SIT ON THE COUCH. Before the British Grand Prix in the Drivers press conference Jolene sits with Alex and Lewis as well as Charles and Yuki. They talked about what it meant to be racing her, Jolene's first home Grand Prix, they asked how good it would be to win. She said how amazing it would be and they moved on. They opened up the floor to questions and they asked Lewis about the filming of the ridiculous F1 movie and Jolene resisted rolling her eyes at it, and no one asked her opinion so she saved it for later.
"So, Wolfie, yesterday you spoke at an award show about knife crime. Why did that feel important to talk about this week?" Jolene was asked when the questions moved on.
"Well the award show was yesterday," Jolene says simply, that was why, before talking properly about knife crime, "But I do think it was important and I was helping present my friend Aj Wallace with an award, for his work preventing knife crime as well as supporting victims, including me," she points to herself as she speaks before saying, "Knife crime has changed many peoples lives in inconceivable ways and ultimately it happens because people are scared," Jolene explains before finishing with, "It is a big problem in this country but I would have presented that award whenever if possible,"
Another question came to Jolene, referring to a video someone had posted sharing their story about her that week, it had gone pretty viral, "Wolfie I'd like to ask about a story that came out on social media this week about you at the British Grand Prix in 2007 about you confronting some..."
"Racists yeah," Jolene interrupts, unsure what word she would use, "Sorry to remind you of this time Lewis," she says reaching a hand across to acknowledge how rough it might be to be reminded of it, "But sadly and also obviously there are pretty toxic and bigoted people involved in, and watching, this sport," Jolene says plainly, "I was 10 and I knew the shit they were saying was wrong," she says purposely, "I don't want to go into details because I don't really know what they were just that I was filled with erm..." she clicks her fingers as she searches for the word she wanted, "What's the word..." she says before saying, "Righteous," after finding it and repeating her point, "I was filled with the righteous anger of a 10 year old girl, so I tried to do something about it," she says before shrugging, "It's kind of that simple,"
"And you gave their tickets away?" the interviewer questions, the person who had made the video received that ticket.
"The black family deserved to see Lewis race more than me," Jolene shrugged, "It was more important to them in that moment I think,"
"I didn't know about that," Lewis says.
"Why would you?" Jolene responds shrugging again, why would she need to tell him? She changed the subject, "Any other questions?"
"I didn't know about that," Lewis tells her as they walk down the hallway away from the press conference.
"Why should you?" Jolene says, it wasn't his burden, "What would be the point in telling you?"
"You deserved those tickets," Lewis tells her.
"They needed it," Jolene shrugs, "And anyway, now we share the track," she tells him, patting him on the shoulder.
"Were you really 10 in 2007?" Lewis asks, thinking of how old he was then and how old she is now.
"Does it make you feel any better to hear that I turned 11 later that year?" Jolene attempts.
"Just a bit," Lewis laughs.
Later there's a Sky event on the pit straight. "Welcome to Jolene W. Pond, the hometown girl," they say and Jolene walks out to a bigger cheer than she expected.
"That's a big cheer," Martin Brundle comments.
"Unexpected," Jolene says into the mic she'd been handed on her way in, "Thank you," she tells the crowd, "It's good to be at a home Grand Prix,"
"Home indeed, your team's factory is here and neither is your house, isn't far is it?" Martin asks.
"My flat, me and Piper live in a flat," Jolene is pedantic, "I do not have time for more than that,"
"Understandable," Natalie responds before asking, "Now you won here in W Series, do you think you can do it again?"
"I'd love to but there's no guarantee," Jolene responds, purposely not outright saying she will win. Even though she is confident she would she's just not going to announce that to the press, "I'm aiming for it and I'm good enough too, but it'll be good to race here either way,"
"Jolene, those jeans, I've gotta ask," Naomi asks, pointing to the painted jeans she had been wearing for media day.
"Right, my childhood best friend, Sato Aiko, made these for me," Jolene explains, "On them are the best British things, such as an Aston Martin race car," she leans down to point to point at it before straightening bait and lifting her jacket to give them a better view, "There's lots of stuff she painted on here, some by request others less so..."
"Is that a Wolves logo?" Martin asks, spotting the football logo.
"Yes, we are from Wolverhampton, last I heard it wasn't going so well for them," Jolene says, she doesn't keep up to date with it,  "A bit better for Everton which was my mums team," she then says, thinking of her mums football love, "But yeah, there's a British plug, the best in the world, fish and chips, a Yorkshire pudding, red phone box..." she begins to list,  "Pop culture wise there's a Tardis, Jane Austen references, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones,"
"Importantly there's the NHS logo," Jolene points to it, "'Cause the NHS is amazing and this country needs it. It's a wonderful service that is essential. And you know don't vote for the Tories," she launches into her complaints, she wasn't planning on but also she wasn't not planning on, "Fund the NHS guys. Are we getting that defunct Covid contract money back? Because the NHS needs it and we should..."
"Thank you Jolene," Martin stops her.
"What's that one?" Naomi asks, pointing to the patch, not really caring that it might be the queen and they're definitely friends to some extent.
"Sex Pistols, God Save the Queen," Jolene answers, "Because why do we have a monarchy? Why?" Jolene begins to rant on purpose this time, "What are they doing to help regular people?"
"Thank you, Jolene," Martin interrupts once more, he points further away to the tires, "Time to roll your tires,"
"I know what you're doing," Jolene shakes a finger at them before walking over to the tires, "Hello Crofty, is this like cheese rolling?"
"Have you done that before?" Crofty asks.
"No," Jolene says, before commenting, "Less hills in this,"
Jolene gets the tire pretty close to the line, but she's not really trying in this instance.

JOLENE SITS IN THE DRIVERS BRIEFING. She was so mad that the strange and bizarre F1 movie was happening, it made no sense to her. And even less sense she was gonna have to drive around the track at the same time as Brad Pitt? It was absolute nonsense to Jolene, she did not get it at all. She disliked Brad Pitt for other reasons relating to stories she'd heard about his treatment of his wife and kids, now she hated him more. It was a shame because he had been in some good films, but not really since the last Oceans film came out (at least for Jolene).
Jolene thought it was so unsafe and a spit in the face, especially after Dilano van't Hoff died less than a week ago. It made it even worse. She loved Lewis but his involvement kind of makes her lose some respect for him, luckily she has a lot.
They ask if anyone has any questions and Jolene says, "I have something to ask," she sits with her arms folded.
Brad Pitt responds with a, "Yes, Jolene," anticipating her question to be a nicer one. He does not know her at all.
"What makes you feel so entitled that you're allowed to drive a car?" Jolene comes out the gate swinging, "What have you done that means you get too? People work their whole lives, train their whole lives for this and they still don't get here but you, you just get too? Why? 'Cause you're a Hollywood actor?" she finishes mockingly and pointing at him with the 'you's.
Lewis attempts to defend himself, "It adds to the film's authenticity..."
Jolene doesn't let him, "Yeah I know, get the stunt guy to do it, or a reserve driver maybe stick Mick in there," she waves him off, "I know how films work, Lewis. I've done stunt driving in films and TV, my backup plan was to make a career of it. I was in a film," she says, to prove she knows how it all works.
Lando asks, "You were in a film?"
"Yeah, Piper's dad's an actor. Long story," Jolene waves it off, that's not her point at all.
"Tristan Mclean, great guy," Lance comments.
The conversation is getting off track as Brad says, "Tristan, I know him,"
Jolene groans, "Not the point,"
"What is the point?" Brad asks, clearly annoyed by her questioning, he definitely thought they'd all be in awe, "That it's not fair?" he asks, trying to get a dig in.
Jolene scoffs, "No I wasn't done, the point is. How is this safe? How?" she implores them for an answer, "It hasn't even been a week since Dilano van't Hoff died. Not even a week," she repeats and people around the room start to realise as she continues, "In the European Formula. He was eighteen, he was young, he was in a better position to drive than you. He was dedicating his life to it. You've just dedicated the sixty years of your life to pretending to be tough on a screen," she jabs, "I get it Tom Cruise has been doing his own stunts or whatever, you shouldn't listen to him he's a scientologist. Sure, in Top Gun they stuck them in real planes but at least Tom Cruise has a pilot licence though they still shouldn't have done that," she says before returning too, "You are not trained, it's not safe. It's not just your life that's at risk, it's ours and it's the marshalls too. For what?" she shrugs looking around, "So you can swing your dick around about you driving a Formula One car. Get over yourself. And think about the lives you're putting at risk." she scolds before leaning back in her chair, folding her arms again.
The only defense Brad can come up with is, "It's a modified Formula Two car,"
Jolene scoffs with disdain again, "And? Junior Formulas is where the most crashes happen,"
Jolene looks to the person leading the session and asks, "Are we done? Like can I leave?"
He nods, "Yeah you can go,"
"Sick," Jolene stands up looking at Brad Pitt one more time (and hopefully the last time), "Stop being selfish," she insists, "And never get on the same plane as me," she finishes, letting him know she knows who he is, before leaving the room.

BEFORE PRACTISE JOLENE SITS WITH CHANNEL 4. Steve Jones sits across from her ready to interview her. Jolene likes Steve so she's happy to do it even though it's not media day anymore. Jolene shakes Steve's hands before they sit down across from each other in the Aston Martin hospitality building. The camera's start rolling and the interview begins, "The British Grand Prix, your first home Formula 1 Grand Prix, must be exciting," the Welshman asks.
"Very exciting," Jolene agrees with Steve, "You know it's good to race at home, I can sleep in my own bed," she says.
"That's always good, that's the other guys in Monaco," Steve comments.
Jolene laughs, "Never gonna be me I assure you,"
"Are you always going to live in England then?" Steve asks.
"I'm not English so no," Jolene says, she doesn't feel English and even before Daniel she wasn't gonna stay in England.
"You're just British?" Steve clarifies.
"I may sound like this but I don't feel English," Jolene says, knowing she has an English accent but her regional one, "I'm from the Black Country before I'm English," she clarifies, she does feel like she's from there, "My mum was half Welsh and half Irish but she was a Scouser so she was British," she shrugs.
"Naturally," Steve agrees, "Do you feel a strong connection to Wales and Ireland then?"
"In my heart we are connected but I don't think I can say I'm Welsh or Irish sadly," Jolene says, putting a hand to her heart before dropping it and saying, "If it wasn't so far from the factory I'd love to live in Wales,"
"Well I'm Welsh, so to me you're Welsh," Steve compliments her.
"Thank you, that means a lot," Jolene says, genuinely touched, "Sorry I should say Diolch," she says 'thank you' in Welsh, one of the few words she knows.
"A chroeso," Steve responds in Welsh before saying, "That was very good,"
"Thank you I don't really know much else sadly," Jolene responds.
"You know more than most," Steve says before moving on, "So we're filming this on Friday morning and there's stories about your dislike of this film Brad Pitt is making..."
"Yeah, very true," Jolene interrupts, "My main objection, there's lots of them, is safety," she clarifies.
"Safety?" Steve confirms, "Is it the driving on track with you you have a problem with? Do you not trust it?"
"I don't trust who's driving the car," Jolene says simply, "To be honest I have a very low opinion of the guy from what I've heard but I also don't think he has the racing skills and it's unsafe to put him the car," she admits, glancing at Piper who seems unfased.
"Is there any actor who you would be comfortable being in that car?" Steve asks.
"None of them have driven F1 cars let's be clear, the closest we have was Rush which was very well done," Jolene explains, a very different situation, "However if you want an actor with a racing background there's Micheal Fassbender and Patrick Dempsey who have raced in Le Man, but those are different cars," she explains, "It would be easier to trust them,"
"Ultimately you don't trust Brad Pitt in the car," Steve clarifies.
"I don't trust him with our safety," Jolene specifies, "I don't trust him with my safety let alone Alex's safety,"
"Why Alex's?" Steve inquires, curious why she named him.
"He's who I'm closest to on the grid, he's someone I really care about and I don't trust this film anywhere near him," she explains.
"So your main objection is ultimately safety," Steve sums up, "Thats understandable and respectable,"
"It's also fucking stupid," Jolene says, comfortable enough to be honest.
"Really?" Steve asks, amused.
"I don't know much but it seems so dumb and there's little to no sense to be made," Jolene says, she does not get the film, "It's no Ted Lasso,"
"I don't think that's what it's going for," Steve says.
"Should be," Jolene insists, "Brilliant show, actually makes me care about football,"
"Not a football fan?" Steve asks, taking the opportunity to learn more about Jolene whilst following her train of thought. Steve is a good interviewer, he allows it to be a conversation.
"Not a mens football fan," Jolene clarifies, "I don't follow the women's that closely but I'm going to the Women's World Cup. I'm a big ice hockey fan and I like cycling too,"
"Cycling?" Steve is surprised.
"The only one I properly follow is the Tour de France," Jolene says, she follows the rest of it less intensely, "Kind of because my mum watched it. But I love Mark Cavendish, he's an inspiration for sure,"
"Really?" Steve prompts her to say more.
"Yeah, he's knows what he's good at and he kind of only goes for it if he knows he's gonna win," Jolene explains, "Its smart,"
He follows up with, "Do you do that?"
"Yeah, sometimes," Jolene nods, she tries to,"But I know when I'm gonna win, mostly,"
"Are you gonna win this weekend?" Steve asks the important question.
"I'm gonna go for it," Jolene half smirks.
Steve knows what she means, "I'll place my bets,"
Jolene laughs, "Are you allowed to do that?"
"You're a fellow country man," Steve justifies.
Jolene laughs then says, "Diolch,"
"So we're gonna move to some simpler questions," Steve says, the conversation had hit a lull, "I'll keep it light. I just feel that for someone so successful we don't know as much about you as we could. We all know your tragic backstory, just not you. It's looking good so far but I'd like to learn more,"
"Okay..." Jolene says, unconvinced.
"So let's start off simple. Tea or coffee?" Steve asks.
"Coffee," Jolene answered quickly.
"Interesting, how do you take your coffee?"
"Black, with sugar, preferably brown sugar," Jolene explains.
"Interesting, no milk?" Steve pries, "Any reason why?" he doesn't realise that this is one of Jolene's classic motivations that under the surface are quite sad.
Jolene gives him a look to say 'it's gonna be sad' with her briefly raised brows before stopping and saying, "So I don't have to buy milk in the middle of the night when I've ran out,"
"Oh... because of your..." Steve starts to realise.
"Mum yeah," she confirms, "I've stumped you already,"
"We can come back," Steve insists. "Next question, favourite colour?"
"Tough... on-brand would be green," Jolene thinks on it.
"For Aston Martin,"
"Yes," she nods, "I think it might be yellow," she decides, "Like a light yellow,"
"Nice,"
"Big blue fan too," she adds.
"Everyone's a blue fan," Steve says, like it was an obvious answer.
"Even if they say they're not they are," Jolene says, making it a plan of Seb's classic quote about Ferrari fans.
"I see what you did there," Steve gets her reference, "Favourite TV Show?"
"Ah there's so many," Jolene struggles to come up with one she watches so many, "I'm gonna go with Death in Paradise,"
"My parents watch that show," Steve comments.
"Not surprising," Jolene laughs, "I rewatch the early seasons often, and force other people to watch it too,"
"Favourite film?"
"Pride and Prejudice 2005," she says quickly.
"Classic," Steve nods, "Not a racing movie?"
"I don't really like racing movies, other than Rush, it's not the same," she shrugs, they rarely appeal to her.
"And you actually do it so you don't need to watch it in a film," Steve adds for her.
"Exactly," she agrees.
"One last question, favourite British thing?" Steve asks, "You've got some ideas on those jeans of yours," he points to the painted jeans she was wearing again.
"The great British plug of course," Jolene answers, "Makes me very patriotic,"
"Me too," Steve agrees, "Thank you it was great talking to you,"
"You too," Jolene nods.

JUST AFTER FREE PRACTISE PIPER SITS IN ASTON MARTIN HOSPITALITY. Piper is staring at her laptop, a hand in hair. She's clearly stressed about whatever she's looking at on the laptop. Piper groans as she scrolls on the laptop screen. Rachel notices Jolene is in a discussion in the garage with engineers, Aiko is with Zoe who's at Mercedes with Mick and Tyrese is doing his job somewhere else. Rachel walks over to her friend and asks, "Are you okay, Piper?"
Piper looks up, reminded it's just her laptop for a second, "Yeah, fine," she insists.
"You don't look it," Rachel insists, sitting down at the table with her.
"Some men are saying pretty fucked up shit about Jolene online," Piper sighs, looking back at the hate spread across social media. It's incredibly messed up, "I'm not going to show her but its horrible to read such stuff about anyone let alone her," Piper knows Jolene would insist she could handle it but she probably couldn't and Piper's not going to let her. Piper is so glad Jolene spends her time on the internet trawling Tumblr posts about TV shows and movies instead.
"Let me look," Rachel insists.
"Rachel..." Piper tries to say, tries to resist.
"So you're not facing it alone," Rachel reasons, to share the burden.
"It's been getting worse," Piper says turning the laptop towards her, "Jolene knows its getting worse, that they're bitter, but it's hard to watch," she says, "She insists there's nothing we can do,"
"Can't the team or the FIA?" Rachel asks, wincing at some of the things written on the screen.
"Why do we have to ask them too?" Piper asked frustrated, "Why are they not already?" the FIA should have done something already, "Anyway you know Jolene is not expecting them to save her,"
"Jolene never expects anyone too," Rachel comments, "I don't think she'd know how to be," she turns the laptop back to Piper.
"Me neither," Piper says sadly, "I've got some reporting to do I think," she says looking at the screen.
"Definitely," Rachel agrees, "We should warn someone, or get her a security guard," she suggests, knowing Jolene would be resistant, "I know she could handle it..."
"But she shouldn't have to," Piper finishes for her, "If nothing else I'll talk to Tyrese about it," she says.
"Also, what does the FIA mean by obligation to complete some work of public interest?" Rachel asks, thinking about the fine Jolene said for her talk about the Tories (and the Royals) yesterday.
"No idea, I just hope they don't make her do stuff with that horrible film," Piper comments, starting to report lots of the posts (taking evidence screenshots and notes as she does so).
"Ehh yeah me too," Rachel nods, Jolene would not like that.

8th JULY 2023
IT WAS JUST BEFORE QUALIFYING FOR THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX. Jolene had been on her way to the garage when she encountered some fans. Specifically she encountered a little girl dressed as her. It almost made her emotional, but she held it together. She talked with the little girl and her family, the time getting away from her especially because Tyrese was waiting for her in the garage, as were the rest of her friends.
Jolene realises the time, "Sorry I've gotta go,"
"No problem, thank you for talking to us," the girl's mum says.
"No problem," Jolene waves her off, "It was lovely to talk to you Amy," she tells the little girl, "I hope to see you on the track soon,"
The girl smiles and giggles as Jolene smiles at her and says goodbye. It's clear, even to Jolene, that she's made her day.
Jolene feels pretty good about herself making her way to the garage. She had a perfected Qualifying strategy. She had felt good in the car this morning. Jolene was quickly making her way past a gap between paddock buildings, just focusing on making it to the garage on time.
She doesn't notice him till it's too late. The man grabs her and pulls her into the dark alley. Jolene knows his aim.

a/n: idk if anyones reading this i’m just putting it here cause i want to but this is going to be all over the place and probably only makes sense in my brain but ah well fun! it is mostly all for me (and my friend who is reading it too), if you like it woo! but i am my own target audience
also my brain merges fandoms when hyper-fixations overlap so when i daydream these things up sometimes other characters sneak in (jolene’s friends and then with ashley in skate fast) and this time i kept them lol
