Had a beautiful time in Salzburg with my darling Piper and Aiko! Sadly did not meet my own Captain Von Trapp but also I do not have the time for 7 children so maybe it's for the best! I definitely recommend the Sound of Music tour, especially with friends!

29th JUNE 2023
AT THE AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX JOLENE SITS ON THE PRESS CONFERENCE SOFA. She sits next to Zhou at the end, the other people on the sofa are Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz and Logan Sergeant. Jolene spends most of the press conference fidgeting and hoping that her arrangements in Australia for Daniel's birthday are going well. It's his birthday on Saturday so Jolene can't be there so she has to make sure it's good the best she can.
Jolene half listens as they ask the others questions, they get to her and say, "Jolene, coming to you now. Aston Martin introduced a significant upgrade last time out in Montréal which worked very well. This is a very different kind of race track, so, in terms of performance, what are you expecting?"
"We don't fully know, really. I think we have to see tomorrow in the free practice how the car feels and how competitive it can be this weekend," Jolene starts, "I think we had different performance in Barcelona and Canada, different feeling with the cars, so yeah, hopefully we are closer to a Canada kind of performance and try to deploy a little bit more of the package. It is a sprint weekend so we will have less time to test, but hopefully we can test a few things on the car in FP1."
"Do you think you'll have as good a weekend for the team as Canada?"
Jolene shrugs, "We can hope. It would be nice but it's a different circuit and that was a specific plan/idea I had had and I had plenty of time working on. I have no such plan for this weekend but I'm sure we can do something good,"
"What about your battle with Ferrari and Mercedes? Aston Martin is 3rd with Ferrari and Mercedes between you and first. How do you see that playing out this weekend?"
"Well I think we're pretty strong, we are the only team to have both drivers win a race so far this year," Jolene says before continuing, "At this point it's still all to play for and we can definitely bring it to Ferrari and Mercedes and make them sweat a little. It's all just great and when we started the season in Bahrain we were definitely not expecting to be up there, and now we are just enjoying every weekend. It's good to be in this battle."
After the press conference ended she was on the phone in her motorhome, "Hi Grace, I'm going to be really overbearing about all this," Jolene said when Daniel's mum picked up.
"Hi Jolene, and do not worry," Grace says, understanding why Jolene's making sure her plans for Daniel's birthday are prepared, "I understand but everything is fine. I have your gifts for Daniel wrapped," Grace assured.
"Thank you, I am terrible at wrapping anyway," Jolene said, "That's why the Christmas gifts were in gift bags," she explains the gifts she gave at Christmas.
"You can always ask me for help with that," Grace assures.
"Thanks, I probably will have to learn," Jolene says, thinking of the future gift giving in the Ricciardo family, "Or make Daniel learn,"
"He'd definitely try if you asked," Grace laughed.
"Would be an odd request," Jolene laughs before changing the subject, "How are you guys?"
Jolene and Grace talk for a few minutes before the phone is passed to Daniel when he arrives in the room. Jolene knows he's smiling wide when he takes the phone.
"Hey Scrappy," Daniel says.
"Hey honey," Jolene responds happily, "How is it down under?"
"Oh you know how it is," he says, Jolene can hear him walking a bit away from his parents, "It's very good, would be even better if you were here,"
"Ah you charmer," Jolene pretends to wave off, "You'll just have to imagine me,"
"I can imagine a lot about you," Daniel says in a suggestive tone.
"I am not having phone sex with you on your mum's phone," Jolene shuts that down.
Daniel lets out a booming laugh, "You assume the worst of me,"
"Sometimes it's funnier if I do," Jolene responds.

30th JUNE 2023
A NEW TATTOO WAS NESTLED AMONGST THE TATTOOS ON THE BACK OF JOLENE'S RIGHT ARM. It was a honey pot. It was Jolene's fifty-third tattoo. Next to the Ethel Cain lyric 'If it's meant to be then it will be' she got not long Sebastian told her he was retiring and she was going to get the seat. She may not believe in God but she does believe in herself, she has too. The honey pot was also next to the small Tardis on the back of her arm. The honey pot was for Daniel, it felt right. She had gone to a tattoo shop to get it done on Tuesday, making Mick translate for her. He had offered to hold her hand through the pain but Jolene didn't need it. He did chat with her throughout.
Piper was helping her reapply the clear plastic wrap after cleaning it; it was after the only practice session this weekend. It was another Sprint Weekend. At a race track Jolene had luckily raced on before, but she still likes the practice. They were preparing for the Squint qualifying.
"It'll be fine," Piper tells her, even though she doesn't know what she's thinking so hard about.
"What will be fine?" Jolene asks.
"What you're worrying about," Piper answers simply, "Daniel's birthday will go well, and you'll do well in the sprint,"
"I was worrying about the socioeconomic state of the World," Jolene answered instead.
"Yeah I can't help you with that," Piper answers sadly.
"I think you could," Jolene says, Piper laughs.
"If only," Piper comments wistfully, "The wrapping is on. It's healing well," she comments on the tattoo she'd been rewrapping for her.
"Well we're old hands at this now," Jolene comments standing up to get ready for the Sprint qualifying.
Piper laughs, "You're an old hand, miss fifty-three tattoos," she reminds her, "We may have two matching tattoos," they both have a ghost and a train for their summer and matching grief, "I don't have fifty-three,"
"Just ten," Jolene says, Piper laughs.
"Just ten," Piper confirms, "Though I do have another idea for a tattoo,"
Jolene turns, "Do tell,"
"I think we: me, you and Rachel..." Piper says, "... should get some True Blue lyrics?"
Jolene smiles wide, "You are a genius," she tells her, "That is our song,"
"I know," Piper responds, before more can be said there's a knock at the door.
"You almost ready?" Tyrese's voice comes through the door, "Is your tattoo wrapped?"
"Yes, but you can come check, if you want?" Jolene responds, she hasn't put her fireproof top on yet but she obviously has no problem with Tyrese seeing her in a sports bra. She doesn't have a problem with most people seeing that to be honest, men can be fully shirtless all the time they can handle her in a sports bra.
Tyrese comes in, just about fitting in the drivers room. He reaches for her arm to check up on it, "Sorry, Piper, I know you know how to do it," he tells her, as he inspects Jolene's arm.
"I understand," Piper says, she understands that making sure Jolene is healthy is his number one priority.
Tyrese looks up from Jolene's arm, happy with what he sees, "It's not hurting you right?"
"It's fine," Jolene insists.
"Is that there's no pain or there's some pain but I'm stubborn so I think it's fine?" Tyrese checks.
"I can tell there was a needle in it four days ago," Jolene says, "But that's because I'm thinking about it,"
"Makes sense," Tyrese nods, "Tell me if it changes," he asks, checking up on the tattoo once more.
"I will," Jolene says, "Can I put my shirt on now?"
"Yeah, sure," Tyrese says, "Piper don't distract her," he leaves with.
"She can get distracted on her own," Piper calls after him.
Jolene laughs before pulling on her shirt and getting ready the rest of the way.
Piper was right. Jolene was fine. She qualified on pole. She was going to start the sprint race tomorrow from the front.

DESPITE THE MIXED CONDITIONS JOLENE STILL STAYED IN FRONT. Twenty-Four laps around the Red Bull Ring still place Jolene on the top of the leaderboard. The rain and intermediate tires might have changed things across the field but Jolene stayed in front. Jolene pulls into her number one spot after the race. Pulling into P2 was Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen pulled into P3.
Just like after a race win she celebrated with the team, just with less exuberance than those Grand Prix wins. After the others got interviewed it was her turn.
"You kept control of that sprint, another great performance Jolene," Naomi Schiff starts.
"Thanks, well in some ways with this length I have in fact done that race before," Jolene starts, "Admittedly very different cars but I won that too so a pretty good track record here,"
"A very good track record," Naomi agrees, "Did you think about changing off on the inters at all?"
"Well, as we knew there wasn't going to be more rain it might have worked but I felt confident enough I would be fine, even when the slicks picked up speed," Jolene explains, "And well clearly it worked"
"Congratulations Jolene," Naomi says as the interview finishes, "Eight more points for you in the standings,"
David Coulthard presents the Sprint plaques. They shake hands and Jolene poses in between the two world champions for a photo.
Jolene returns to the garage and after Piper hands her back her phone she looks down at her phone to a text from Daniel, 'Gift number 6?'
Jolene laughs to herself before responding, 'shouldn't you be celebrating?' as he's supposed to be at his party in Perth.
'Shouldn't YOU?' Daniel responds quickly.
'i have a race tomorrow' Jolene texts back as she enters her drivers room.
'LAME' Daniel responds, he's definitely been drinking.
Jolene rolls her eyes as she sits down. She uses the 'haha' reaction on his message. She types and sends 'yeah totally' and quickly follows it with 'driving a car at 100s of miles an hour is LAME' before ending with 'have some drinks on my behalf'.Daniel responds with 'Already well ahead of you baby' and a photo of him with a drink in his hand, smiling at the camera. Jolene smiled looking at the screen wishing she was there, even if she won today.

2nd JULY 2023
JOLENE PULLED HER IN FRONT OF THE MARKER FOR 3RD PLACE. She was finishing the weekend on the podium. It would have been nice to win but the Mercedes was better in the dryer conditions. Lewis was better today, they had a better strategy and for once Ferrari got the tyre strategy right, more than Aston Martin did. It was disappointing but Jolene was rolling with it. She had essentially won the team four races this season, if you counted Lance's win she got him, which arguably you should.
"It's obviously disappointing not to win after yesterday but obviously Lewis and Charles had better luck and well were better today," Jolene says in the interview, her PR response there, "Obviously Lewis was the best, he is a seven-time World Champion after all, Charles and I are not even a one-time world champion. Hopefully that will change, especially for me," she adds before answering more questions about the race, and saying they'll find out why in the debrief.
Soon she's walking with Lewis to the cooldown room, Charles is not far behind. Lewis is giving Jolene advice as to where she went wrong, how he got past her near the beginning.
"I don't think she needs your advice," Charles says as they enter the cooldown room, "She knows how to beat us already,"
Lewis laughs, "I think you're forgetting how few races she's done," he tells Charles, sitting down in the number 1 position, "What number are you at?" he asks Jolene.
"Twelve," Jolene answers, after checking her mental maths, this was race twelve for Jolene.
"Practically a baby," Lewis says.
Charles laughs, "She still doesn't need your help,"
Lewis laughs, "Maybe not," he agrees, "But it's the nice thing to do,"
"Thanks," Jolene says, "I will say, I would have figured it out. I have been watching you race since two-thousand and seven, when I was ten, eleven,"
"You're making me feel old," Lewis says, jokingly.
"If I'm making you feel old you've got problems," Jolene tells him, "I'm twenty-six,"
Lewis laughs, "Yeah, I've definitely got problems,"
They all laugh before being called to the podium.

3rd JULY 2023
THE CAR DRIVING JOLENE AND PIPER PULLS UP. They climb out the car outside Jolene's/their flat. Tyrese was dropped at home first and Aiko had taken a flight to Gatwick instead of Birmingham International because it was definitely much closer to Brighton. Jolene grabs both their suitcases out the back of the car before Piper can. It's usual, every time Piper tries to argue she can do it Jolene levels her with a look. Piper still tries every time though. She does concede only picking up her backpack and getting the door to the block of flats.
"You know I can carry my own bag," Piper says as they step into the lift, pressing the button.
"You don't need to," Jolene responds, leaning against the lift wall. Piper does get to carry her bag. From the living room to her room.
Jolene opens the door to her room and sees Daniel sleeping in her sheets. Jolene smiles. She knew he was here, she knew when his flight was getting in. She had also seen a pair of his shoes in the hallway when she and Piper had taken their shoes off by the door. His were in the shoe rack and not the just pairs that were there before she left for Austria.
Jolene does a few things in her room, unpacking small stuff like chargers, before deciding to climb into bed with Daniel. She had missed him, she didn't intend to go to sleep just cuddle him for a bit. Jolene just wanted to be close to him that's why she just takes her jacket and trousers off and slides into bed. He very quickly turns to her, even in his sleep he knows it's her. He wraps his arms around her, pulls her into his chest and she falls asleep listening to his heartbeat.
There's the vibration of Jolene's ringing phone, Jolene doesn't think it's ever been off silent, that wakes both Jolene and Daniel. She was very confused briefly after just waking up. Daniel doesn't want to let her go as she tries to reach for the phone. "Phone call," she tells him, he groans and lets her go.
"Hello?" Jolene says into the phone, she hadn't checked who was calling so she could answer the phone before it stopped ringing. Jolene's also still waking up.
"Hey Jolene," Sebastian's voice says over the phone.
Recognising his voice wakes Jolene up, "Seb! Happy Birthday!" Jolene says into the phone sitting up, Daniel's hand reaches out to hold her thigh but is partly asleep still; he had travelled further than her, "Sorry I fell asleep," she tells Seb.
"It's okay, I just wanted to thank you for the card and gifts," Seb says, it was his 36th birthday.
"No problem," Jolene says, "I'm glad you liked them. I probably annoyed Hanna by my check ins about it arriving,"
Seb laughs, "No she doesn't mind," he assures.
"They always say that, Grace said that about Daniel's gifts," Jolene says. Reaching down to stroke Daniel's hair because he can, "But I am assured they all made it to him. I can double check he is right here,"
"That's okay, maybe I'll talk to him after if you don't mind," Seb says.
"He's even more asleep than me," Jolene told him, "I'm sure he'd love to talk to you, Piper too,"
"Is she also asleep?" Seb asks.
"No clue, she's in her room," Jolene says. They chat about other things for a few minutes before Jolene is poking Daniel awake.
"Seb wants to talk to you," she tells him.
He sits up taking the phone from her after smiling and kissing her on the cheek, "Hey man," he says into the phone.
They start chatting when Jolene starts to get up and once again Daniel doesn't like that, he gives her a confused face and Jolene just says, "Piper," before leaving the room.
She walks across the living room knocking on the door to Piper's room. "Hey beautiful," Jolene says after Piper called she could come in.
"Hey babe," Piper responds, lying in bed having paused her laptop.
"Seb is on the phone, Daniel's just talking to him now," Jolene explains, "And he would like to speak to you too,"
"Hell yeah," Piper says, climbing out of bed to follow Jolene across the living room back to her room.
"Hey Dan," Piper says, stepping into the room.
"Hey Piper," he responds, "Yeah, Piper's here," he says back into the phone, "Yeah I'll put her on," he says holding out the phone.
"Sebastian!" Piper greets into the phone, stepping out into the living room.
Daniel smiles at Jolene, reaching out a hand for her. When she accepts it he pulls her into bed with him, "Hey gorgeous," he says pulling her into a kiss they smile the whole way through.
Jolene's hand makes its way into the hair at the nape of his neck, fingers curling in the dark curls, "I missed you," she says, in a pause of the kissing.
"I missed you too," he says back, he goes to kiss her again before pausing as he remembers, "Something's changed since I saw you last," he says grabbing her arm and she helps him move it so he can see the honey pot on the back of it, laughing as she does so.
He looks awestruck as he lightly strokes the freshly healed skin. Daniel leans forward and kisses the tattoo making eye contact with Jolene as he does so. Jolene flushes slightly, the look similar to one he gives her at other times.
"Piper's gonna be back with my phone in a minute," Jolene tells him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Daniel plays dumb, leaning back and away from her.
Jolene rolls her eyes, "I'm gonna want dinner first anyway," she tells him.
Daniel laughs, "I can do dinner," he says, "I really did miss you,"
Jolene smiles, "Me too," she tells him, "I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday,"
"Hard not to when my wonderful girlfriend gets me such great gifts," Daniel says, pulling the golden chain and cowboy boot from underneath his t-shirt to show her it was around his neck.
Jolene smiles while pulling out the matching silver version (the one she got Daniel had a longer chain because when he wore it when he was there and she raced it was a bit tight). She wore the necklace he'd gotten her for her birthday everyday. He smiles seeing it, "I was pretty proud of that gift," he tells her, reaching out to rub his thumb over the cowboy boot.
"It was so good, I had to steal it," Jolene comments.
"Stop me stealing your necklace," Daniel says, "Speaking of gifts..." he says and Jolene groans like she knows where he's going with this, "...you have to give me a list," he says even though he does already have ideas, and has had a plan for awhile he has started.
"A list?" Jolene questions.
"Yeah, I know you have lists of books, DVDs and CDs," he tells her, "I'll give money to charity too,"
"Okay," Jolene relents, "I just feel bad, I can afford things, and I never liked to ask for much..."
"I know but I want to," Daniel says, "I like getting you things. You often tend to beat me to it. That's the only problem,"
Jolene laughs, "It's a long list of books," she tells him.
"Perfect," Daniel responds, "I do have ideas that you're not gonna beat me too though," he tells her.
"Then why'd you ask?" Jolene asked.
"It's like one idea, I've gotta get you five others," Daniel says.
Jolene groans playfully, "It's not a competition, I'm gonna spend my birthday with you,"
Daniel has an exaggerated thinking face, "I'll consider it,"
Jolene smiles at him, "Your tire test is next week right?" she changes the subject.
"Yeah," Daniel says, "Hey Piper," he says, Jolene's back is to her so doesn't see her in the door.
"Hey lovebirds," Piper says, placing Jolene's phone on the table, "Seb says bye, the girls wanted their dad,"
"Can't blame them," Jolene says, turning to sit against the headboard, "What food do we have for dinner?"
"A take-out menu," Piper says, Jolene and Daniel laugh.
"You'll have to defend me to Tyrese," Jolene tells her.
"Will do," Piper says, before disappearing off so they can all order some dinner.
"I'll help you work it off," Daniel says.
Jolene laughs, "You better pay then,"
"It was just my birthday!" Daniel protests, even though he was already planning on paying for it anyway.

4th JULY 2023
JOLENE PARKS HER CAR OUTSIDE HER FLAT. She had just returned from a day at the Aston Martin factory to prepare for the British Grand Prix this weekend. Jolene obviously wanted to do well there, this was her home race. So it was even more important that she spent time in the simulator than normal. She felt confident but she wanted to be even more confident going into it. Especially as she is only going in for a half day tomorrow as she has agreed to go to London for an awards Gala for her friend AJ in the evening. She's presenting him his award.
Jolene walks up the stairs and into her flat where she finds Aiko and Piper. Aiko has garment bags hanging off the door frambe between the kitchen and living room. "There she is!" Aiko cries.
There's not much time before Jolene is being corralled into trying the clothes on. Admittedly she'd asked Aiko for help with them but she barely got to say hello before she was pulling on the painted jeans.
Aiko had painted lots of different things about being British, the best parts. Such as a red phone box, fish and chips, a Yorkshire pudding, the NHS and the great British plug. There's lots of other things like a Tardis, Jane Austen references, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. There were also some patches such as a Sex Pistols God Save the Queen one. There's many.
Aiko is pointing at them all for Jolene and Piper's benefit, "Here's an Aston Martin race car," she says pointing to it before pointing to, "Here's the Wolverhampton Wanderers logo," she said pointing to the black Wolf on golden orange background.
Jolene laughed, "That's Britain to you?"
"For all the time I lived in Wolverhampton I had you," Aiko explains, "So I have a pretty good opinion of it,"
"Even though they're terrible at football?" Jolene asked.
Aiko laughs, "It's charming," she defends.
Jolene shakes her head fondly, "If you say so,"
"Anyway, you're Wolfie," Aiko tells her, "You've gotta lean in,"
Aiko steps away for a second looking her work over before saying, "Okay, dress now? That's for tomorrow and more important," she says, reaching for the other garment bag.
It's a simple strapless black mid-length dress with a full skirt. Jolene's bear is thrown on the sofa as she tries it on in the living room. It gets great reviews from everyone in the room and when Daniel walks in her starts with, "This is a sight for sore eyes,"
Jolene smiles as he walks over and kisses her in greeting with an added, "Hi honey," before he greets everyone else.
"Do you like the dress?" Aiko asks after he's treated everyone.
"Obviously," Daniel says, "But I think Jolene's answer is more important,"
"It has pockets," Jolene shows him.
"Can you do no wrong Aiko?" Daniel asks rhetorically.
"She can't," Jolene answers for her, "Now if you'd be so kind to unzip me I'm gonna put some other clothes on and start dinner," she doesn't bother to go back to her room to take the dress off and bring it back, no need in this company, before disappearing to put on a t-shirt and shorts to make dinner.

female F1 Driver OC | Masterlist
Jolene races in Spain, goes to New York and races in Canada enacting her big plan, to help secure herself.
TW: Swearing, mentions of death and alcohol, misogyny
a/n: LONG CHAPTER - Spain wasn't much but it was Piper's birthday and I had fun with it. I enjoyed in the interview and Jolene's stress in the comments. IDK if Jolene's plan being enacted is clear, idk if it would work either, but it's here.

3rd JUNE 2023
THE EARLY MORNING SPANISH SUN IS FADING THROUGH THE CURTAINS. Jolene had something very important she was preparing; and not her qualifying strategy even though it were to take place later that day. There was something much more important that day. Piper's 24th Birthday! Jolene was preparing a birthday breakfast in their shared suite. She was setting the table up for the room service she had ordered for Piper's morning (that was on the way), there were also gifts and a banner she and Rachel (mostly Rachel) had made in the past. Jolene hears the sound of Piper waking up in the other room and makes sure everything is placed correctly. Piper opens the door to the living area between them and Jolene is jubilant, "Whooo," she cheers quietly, "Morning beautiful," she says.
"Hi," Piper responds, stepping out, "You've been busy," she says around a yawn.
"Well..." Jolene begins before singing to the tune of 'It's the most wonderful time of the year'.
'It's the most important day of the year, With Piper aging, And everyone sending Piper good cheer, It's the most important day of the year.
It's the hap-happiest birthday of all, With those birthday greetings and gay happy greetings, When friends come to call, It's the hap-happiest birthday of all.'
It's a bit crudely shoved and Jolene only just remembers it but she does remember it and she can sing. She pauses, she has no more but Piper holds her hand up and says.
"Alright, Jolene, that's enough,"
"Good 'cause I don't have anything else," Jolene shrugs.
"Where did that even come from?" Piper laughs.
"I'm insane baby, you know this," Jolene says, bonding forward and pulling Piper into a hug as she says, "Happy birthday! I love you so so much,"
"I love you so so much too," Piper says, holding her close as they sway for a few seconds, "How'd that banner get here?" Piper asks once they part and notices the handmade banner.
"Preparation," Jolene says simply as she leads her to the table with gifts, "And Rachel posted it to this hotel," she adds as a proper explanation, as Piper checks the card for one of the flower bouquets (it's from her girlfriend, Kiera) there's a knock at the door, "And there's your breakfast," Jolene declares rushing to the door.
Piper smiles into the flowers Kiera sent her as she hears Jolene bringing in the food behind her. She peruses some more presents without opening them briefly and turns around when she hears Jolene cough to get her attention.
"M'lady," Jolene says, holding out a chair for Piper to sit on.
"Why thank you kind sir," Piper says, laughing lightly as she sits down in the chair, Jolene bows dramatically before sitting on her own chair.
"How does it feel to be 24?" Jolene asks as they start eating, "It’s the last year you can date Leonardo Decaprio," she adds, joking.
"I know I better get on that," Piper plays along with sarcasm, "I will add that I am excited for you to wear your gay helmet," she adds, it was pre-approved and it's Pride month so Jolene has a rainbow addition of her helmet.
"I wore it yesterday," Jolene reminds her.
"Still excited you're wearing it today," Piper shrugs around a bite of her food.
"I offered to get one with your face on," Jolene adds, she did offer.
"I do not want that," Piper says.
"Why not?" Jolene jokes with a fake display of confusion. Piper laughs again.
They eat their breakfast and when they’re done they FaceTime Kiera (Rachel is still asleep) as she opens her presents.

IN A SMALL RESTAURANT NEAR THEIR HOTEL PIPER AND JOLENE SIT EATING. They're having a meal for Piper's birthday and Jolene has been trying not to talk about racing; partly because it didn't go her way but also because it's Piper's day. However Piper brings it up as Jolene puts a helping of pasta in her mouth.
"So P7," Piper says, hoping to get more in before Jolene can interrupt but Jolene is quick to swallow and interject.
"Who cares? It's your birthday," Jolene says shrugging, stabbing another piece of pasta with her fork. Piper gives her a 'come on' look. Jolene sighs, reaching a hand across the table to place on Piper's and with an exaggerated apologetic look and tone she says, "I'm sorry I couldn't get you a pole for your birthday," she says, Piper laughs and Jolene pulls her hand back to sip her drink.
"It's not your fault the gravel fucked your floor," Piper justifies for her, both repeating things she said and team members did, "And the rain is what lead you into the gravel," she reminds.
"It wasn't even raining," Jolene says, pedantically, shutting down any brushing off, her performance on weekends normally goes better than this.
"The track wasn't dry yet," Piper adds. Jolene knows this she does, she has to because she is the expert and that's how Piper knows.
Jolene sighs again, "It's weird, other than Baku, I've not had an imperfect week in so long," since probably Indycar (2017) she's never messed up, she is basically infallible except for today. She is because she has to be, "They're gonna crucify me," Jolene sighs, dropping her fork and putting her head in her hands, "This wasn't someone else's fault," she adds.
"They're not gonna..." Piper begins reaching out to place a hand on her arm, Jolene looks up at her and Piper concedes, "They might but it wasn't a big deal. You still out qualified Lance," Piper assures.
Jolene groans, "Not helping, I need it to be Canada," she says, she sits up again looking around and saying, "God I need a drink," she murmurs.
"It's my birthday I'm not complaining," Piper says, more than happy to drink, "Eat your pasts and we'll go to the hotel bar and you will drink more than me and be fine and will have to put me to bed," she instructs taking a bite of her own pasta.
"I will barely drink anything, I have a race tomorrow," Jolene declares while taking a bite of her pasta.
"Hang over. Period. What's the difference?" Piper shrugs, "Eat your pasta,"
"They have cooked breakfasts at the hotel," Jolene comments.
"Even better," Piper smiles.
"Sorry for making it about me," Jolene says, once they return to dinner, she’d kind of brought the mood down.
"You didn't," Piper assured, "You've promised to go drinking with me," she says, happy with this turn of events.
They finish their meals, order dessert (no cake and candles in the restaurant, that's not their style) and then go back to the hotel bar. Jolene had to basically carry Piper upstairs and put her to bed.

4th JUNE 2023
THERE'S A SLIGHT PAIN IN JOLENE'S HEAD. It's just the aftermath of Piper and Jolene's drinking for the birthday. Piper is not doing as well, she's been slumped over all morning and is currently napping in Jolene's drivers room. Jolene is currently sitting in the room they keep the ties, sat on the floor leant against one. Normally she'd still be in her room if Piper was sleeping but Jolene is on the phone with Daniel telling him about her night.
"You drank a lot by the sounds of it," Daniel comments.
Jolene laughs, "Piper was worse than me but it's her birthday," she explains, like Piper isn't worse when she drinks less, "I just have a slight headache but it's no big deal, I'll be fine racing," she says, she knows she'll be fine especially when she has some paracetamol before the race.
"Are you sure?" Daniel checks, worrying anyway.
"Yeah, Danny," Jolene assures firmly, "I have a menstrual cycle," she says in explanation.
"Ah," he makes an understanding noise before adding, "You're a tough girl, honey,"
Jolene laughs, "Don't mess with me," she warns.
"I wouldn't want to," Daniel says, "I know you'd beat me," he means it.
"I like it when a man knows his place," Jolene says dreamily and Daniel laughs.
"Wolfie," an Aston Martin member of staff walks into the tire store after searching for her everywhere, "Why aren't you in your drivers room?"
"I'm just bonding with the tires," Jolene says, one hand still holding the phone to her ear, the other reaching out to stroke the tires in blankets next to her, "It's part of my preparation," she adds onto her joke.
"You're joking, aren't you?" the team member asks, he's either unable to tell she's joking, thinks she's insane, is annoyed he had to look for her or maybe all/a combination of the three.
"Why is it not funny?" Jolene asks, dropping her arm, genuinely asking even as Daniel laughs lightly through the phone held to her ear.
"You've got the drivers parade," the team member says as an answer before walking away.
"That's not an answer," Jolene calls after him, she returns her attention to her phone call, "Danny, did you think it was funny?"
"Very funny, honey," Daniel says truthfully, "He just doesn't get you like I do," he says.
"I'm just so misunderstood," Jolene pretends to be filled with great angst, before adding with genuine sadness, "Well I've gotta go, don't I?"
"You can have your phone on you during the parade," Daniel suggests.
"Danny..."
"I know I know," Daniel assures, "Wave at your adoring fans, just make room for your number 1 fan,"
"Piper's asleep," Jolene responds.
"Ha, Ha, Ha," Daniel draws out each sarcastic 'ha', "I will beat her for first one day," he declares.
"You can do it honey, I believe in you," Jolene encourages.
"Thank you," Daniel responds, adding, "I love you,"
"I love you too," Jolene adds, standing up and walking towards the exit, "Bye,"
"How will I survive without you?" Daniel plays up the forlorn.
"Drugs?" Jolene suggests before quickly hanging up with a, "Bye!"
Daniel laughs as the call ends, smiling to himself.
Jolene then makes her way to Drivers Parade, she sees Alex as she steps into the place before they're led outside.
"Y'alright?" Jolene greets Alex with just before they're directed out into the Spanish sun.
"Yeah, you?" Alex responds casually as they step out.
"Yeah," Jolene says, whilst grimacing/squinting which isn't great for her headache.
"What's the face for?" Alex asks.
"It's bright," Jolene responds, fumbling for her sunglasses tucked into the neck of her polo.
"Really?" Alex says sarcastically.
Jolene rolls her eyes behind her sunglasses, "I have a headache," she explains.
"Ah so if my qualifying went better I'd have a chance of beating you?" Alex says, "Damn it," he curses.
"That's not what that means," Jolene reminds him, "Alex, you have met me right?"
"Yeah just a hope," Alex says wistfully and Jolene laughs.
"I do this in pain all often anyway," Jolene reminds him.
Alex nods, "Yeah that makes sense," he says as they step onto the truck and start chatting to other drivers (that was mostly Alex).

ANOTHER DRIVE UP TO P4. Not a bad drive, and Lance finished P5. Jolene used the opportunity to try and learn more for Canada even though they're very different tracks, but there's still more to learn especially as she and Lance qualified near each other. So she used this opportunity to keep Lance close whilst maintaining their positions. She told this to Lance and he agreed, they'd already discussed her plan for Canada before this race. There was some stuff to iron out but what better chance to practise staying together for the race. After knocking back a paracetamol before the race she was fine too. Team management was happy too, even though them both on the podium would be better.

9th JUNE 2023
JOLENE WAS BACK WALKING ON THE NEW YORK STREETS. She had been for about four days, it was nice to be back. Jolene loves New York, her friends are there, her brother is there, there's so much character in New York; it's rough around the edges but that's what Jolene loves. Sometimes it's hard to describe what she loves about New York. She just knows that she does and that New York is a part of her, a big part. So it made sense that Sky Sports wanted to interview her there, maybe it was also because it was on the way to Canada and that was the next race.
So now after spending a few days with her friends she was filming an interview with Ted Kravitz. After they film a greeting and order bagels and coffee, they had asked what she often did in New York, her answer was to go there after Piper had done her due diligence because some ways it was hard to say exactly what it was she did with her time in New York, at least not in a way that was good for TV so they're going to Central Park after this. Piper was also there behind the camera.
"So what is it you like so much about New York?" Ted asks when they're sat facing each other and eating their bagels, they've talked about the babel place, but Jolene can tell there's in the way he said it he's hinting at her comments about Monaco.
"I know what you're referring to," Jolene shakes her head with a smile.
"Your comments on Monaco made quite a splash," Ted shrugs.
"It was a comment against me not Monaco," Jolene defends before starting to try and explain, "But well New York isn't polished, it's rough around the edges. People live here and I mean truly live here. There's so much here and so much character in its streets and people. New York is truly alive," she says pausing before adding, "And well personally I've been at my lowest in New York City but apart from winning a race, I've been at my highest," she adds with laugh, "It just feels right and I love how multicultural it is here," Monaco is just 'rich people', not her kind of culture, "Sure it's rough around the edges but so am I. And I'm not gonna be anyone else,"
"So character, that makes sense," Ted nods.
"And all my friends are here," Jolene adds, that's definitely a big part of this, "And my brother, so family too,"
"Very important," Ted agrees, "Do you think there should be a New York Grand Prix?"
"No," Jolene scoffs, "There's too many, the calendar is hard enough as it is on all the teams and I'm not talking just about the drivers," she says, a rant she tampers down, "Also America doesn't need another one, and definitely not a street track, which they would do,"
"You don't want to drive through Times Square?" Ted asks.
"I don't want to go to Time Square. Period. It's a nightmare," Jolene says, "And the traffic is already dreadful don't add to it,"
"The traffic is quite bad," Ted agrees.
"That's why I take the subway," Jolene explains, "But this camera probably shouldn't," she says pointing to the camera man pointing at them.
Ted laughs, "Yeah it probably shouldn't,"
They make their way to Central Park and Jolene walks with her arm linked with Piper, "You're doing well," Piper assures her, "The bagel people love you, it's a good answer and down to earth. Like you,"
"Thanks," Jolene smiles before adding, "Driving through Time Square would be a nightmare,"
"A nightmare," Piper agrees, nodding, "I don't even want to go there now,"
"It's awful," Jolene insists again.
When they made it to the boats at Central Park; Ted and Jolene stood looking down at the metal rowing boat, and a cameraman pointed at them before they climb into one of them. Jolene looks down at one of the rocky boats, "This could go terribly wrong you know," she comments, aware that it was possible they could fall in (but that would make good TV).
"I am very aware," Ted agrees, nodding, "Are you any good at rowing?" he asked.
"I've done it before," Jolene gives an answer, she had gone rowing before and the boats had been used in Percy's proposal to Annabeth, "Does this mean it'll have to be me?" Jolene asks Ted.
"Sadly, yes I think so," Ted says, not confident in his rowing ability.
"You are not a gentleman," Jolene comments, walking towards the row boat. She is mostly joking.
"I think you're stronger than me," Ted admits readily.
"Yeah I definitely am," Jolene agrees.
When she steps into the boat is unsteady. There are murmurs of, "Fuck, fuck," as she tries to sit Ted looks on worriedly before she announces, "No I've got it,"
When Ted gets in the boat there is some more unsteadiness but they're soon off with the camera man on the other boat and the rest of the production crew and Piper watching from the shore.
After Jolene found her rhythm and got them away from the sides they row leisurely through Central Park. Ted begins asking questions again, "So we're seven races into the season, how do you feel your rookie season is going?"
"Pretty good," Jolene adds before adding, "Imagine if I said terrible," with a laugh.
"You'd have very high standards," Ted comments.
"Too high," Jolene half scoffs and half laughs, "I didn't expect it would go this well. I knew I was this good but I thought I'd have to wait longer for people to generally agree with me," she explains, slowing her rowing as they went past the willows.
"You've definitely made quite the positive impression," Ted comments before adding, "I think you've got that rookie of the year award secured,"
"The others are gonna have to pull off something crazy to beat me," Jolene comments self assuredly, "I think most wins in a rookie season is four, I can beat that I'm sure,"
"Have you got other wins in mind?" Ted asks, impressed but not surprised by the confidence she is an F1 driver after all.
"Well obviously if possible you want to win at home and we've got Silverstone and Austin still," Jolene comments, those are her plans she obviously wants to win Silverstone and she's promised she'd win Austin.
"Austin, even though you're not from there?" Ted pries.
"My brother is, he insisted I call it that," Jolene explains and adds, "Him and his mum, Naomi,"
"That makes sense," Ted agrees, nodding before asking "Does family have a big impact on your racing?"
"Well, Will is all I've got now," Jolene explains, she is without her own biological family otherwise, "My grandparents died when I was like 6, my mum at 15 and even my Great Aunt died of covid," she explains matter of factly, trying not to think too much about all of it, this is not an emotional interview even though she could easily make it so.
"She's the one you stayed with when you moved to New York, right?" Ted checks.
"Yes, she was so much fun," Jolene nods, she had many fond memories with her, "But on my racing only my mum ever had anything to do with it. Together we dedicated everything to it. I had to make it to make everything worth it," she says, taking the interview back to racing.
"You and your mum were very close, right?" Ted says, something obvious in many ways.
"She was my whole world..." Jolene says, trailing off and not wanting to get too emotional on this boat they were floating on, "Other than racing. It was her and racing. So obviously when she died I was devastated and my whole world was gone," she explained, "And I was here and I had to find a different, but the same, me," she shrugged before adding, "But look at me now,"
"The most successful female F1 driver," Ted supplies before asking, "Did you find it hard not having a female F1 driver to look up to?"
"Well I have a great imagination," Jolene says as an explanation, which is true, "Yes and no. My mum was very clear that that lack of women didn't mean I couldn't do it. She said something about the only difference being perception. She could do 'what they're doing other people just might disagree'. And she's right," she reminisces on what her mum said before explaining more of her mindset, "I just looked for other things/similarities. Part of the reason it was Jensen (other than the fact we'd met him) was because he was blonde and British,"
"And that's all you need?" Ted confirms.
"Sometimes," Jolene shrugs, "Seb was blonde and Lewis was British and I liked their personalities," she gives two others examples and explanations before adding, "Also with Lewis even though it wasn't the same he didn't look like the rest either so there was something there to kind if relate to in the Sport. And he is such an inspiration it's crazy that he knows who I am let alone that a race with him and he's so complimentary," she says, devolving into talking about these racers she admired growing up, and how weird it is to have Lewis compliment her for the world to hear and privately as often as he does, "Crazy that I know my childhood heroes the way I do, that we're friends and I race against 1 of them and they all believe in me. I've had a lot of belief in my ability and its nice that other people are starting to believe me too,"
"If they're smart they are," Ted adds, everyone in Formula 1 and motorsport has been kicking themselves for not paying enough attention sooner.
"If only they'd have been smarter, I could be world champion by now," Jolene says and Ted laughs. She played it as a joke but she meant it.
"Maybe you could be," Ted says with a light tone.
"Well that went better than expected," Jolene said as they walked down the dock (still on Camera) after getting out the boat to finish their on camera goodbyes.
"Did you think we'd capsize?" Ted asked, jokingly.
"Maybe, they're a bit rickety these boats," Jolene says, partly joking (they are old rowboats) but she played it straight.
"They are," Ted agrees before complimenting her, "You were a great rower,"
"I erg," Jolene says in explanation, one of the machines she uses often when working out is the rowing machine, "Love the erg,"
"It's payed off," Ted says, "Thank you for a good day here in New York,"
"No problem," Jolene says, "There's more to New York,"
"You'll have to show me again," he says, "Maybe Times Square?" Ted jokes.
"Piss off," Jolene scoffs, "I would not take you there,"
"I'm aware," Ted says, "Well, thanks again," he says, reaching out to shake her hand.
"Same to you," Jolene says, shaking his hand.
"I'll see you in Canada," Ted says as they separate.
"See you in Canada," Jolene repeats and someone yells 'cut'.
They have post interview discussions when Jolene sees Percy's Step-Dad Paul arrive. They had dinner after with Percy, his mum and stepdad, Annabeth and Rachel; Paul was just coming from somewhere nearby so it was decided he would arrive at the restaurant with Jolene and Piper. Jolene gets her phone and handbag from Piper, nudging her and pointing to Paul. The three of them wave at each other and Paul makes his way over.
They all hug in greeting and Jolene asks Paul, "How are you?"
"Good, I'm doing well," Paul says, "How was the interview?"
Jolene shrugs turning to Piper, "Ask her,"
Piper laughs, "It was good," she assures, "If you guys wanna go ahead you can. I need to talk about the edit a bit," Piper says, her job not quite done.
"Are you sure?" Jolene checks, happy to wait, "They won't even have an edit yet,"
"There's an idea," Piper says before insisting, "I'm sure,"
"I'll miss you," Jolene says, even though it won't be long.
"I'll miss you too," Piper says, hugging her. "I'll see you in a bit, Paul," she says once they pull back.
"Good luck," Paul adds. He's used to their antics so he's not surprised when Jolene acts so dramatically about being parted from Piper, he laughs lightly at it.
There's a breeze that blows through Central Park as they start walking and in just a t-shirt a mentally unprepared Jolene shivers.
"Are you cold?" Paul asks worriedly.
"I'm fine," Jolene insists even as Paul is taking off his jacket and holding it out to her.
"Here take my jacket," he says, insistent.
"Paul..." Jolene tries to resist.
"Don't worry about it, I have long sleeves," Paul insists.
Jolene can tell that she's not going to get away with not wearing the jacket so takes it with a, "Thanks, Paul,"
They have a nice walk to the restaurant, talking about the books they're reading. Then in the restaurant once all seven have arrived they have a lovely meal full of stories and laughter in their kind of chosen family.

f1gossip WOLFIE'S WAG REVEALED????
Aston Martin's Jolene W. Pond (26) was seen walking through New York yesterday evening with an older man. After conducting an interview with Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz in Central Park she hugged the man, he gave her his jacket and they were seen walking through New York and entering a restaurant together.
Is this Wolfie's boyfriend she's mentioned in passing? What do you think of the possible couple?

14th JUNE 2023
IN MONTREAL JOLENE AND LANCE STOOD ON AN ICE RINK. Specifically the ice rink of the Montréal Canadiens, Lance's favourite Ice Hockey team. They were filming a video before the Canadian Grand Prix was an Ice Hockey competition between Jolene and Lance. Jolene was feeling confident she was quite good at ice skating (another skill developed to beat Percy at another thing). Daniel and Scotty sat on the side of the ice rink watching, Chloe was somewhere in the stadium. There was a camera pointed at Jolene and Lance that Piper was lurking behind and in between the two Aston Martin drivers as a Montréal Canadiens player.
"Hello guys, here we are in the wonderful Canada, my home," Lance starts the video, "More specifically here we are in the HABS' stadium,"
"Montréal Canadiens for those uninitiated," Jolene explains to the camera for the people who don't follow Ice Hockey.
"Yes, thank you, Wolfie," Lance says before returning to the intro, "We're here with a Montréal Canadiens player," he says point to the Hockey player between them, "Thank you for coming, Josh,"
"Thank you for having me," Josh says.
"Thank you for being here," Lance responds, "I am a massive HABS fan. Wolfie here is an Ice Hockey fan as well but the Rangers instead," he throws her under the bus.
"We can fix that," Josh says determinedly.
Jolene furrows her eyebrows at that when she says, "I'm a New Yorker,"
"Aren't you English?" Josh asks, not getting it.
"British," Jolene corrects before changing the subject, "Anyway, we're gonna do some Hockey. Try and score some goals," she says, explaining to the camera, "Lance, you probably grew up doing this, right?" she asks leaning around to look at Lance.
"What makes you think that?" Lance asks.
"Isn't it your national sport?" Jolene responds.
"Yeah but..." Lance starts to defend but Jolene interrupts.
"Did you grow up doing it?" Jolene asks.
"Josh, what are the rules?" Lance changes the subject. Josh explains what they'll be doing briefly before they set up.
When Jolene is in a starting position Josh skates over and stands too close for Jolene's liking as he says, "You know I can give you some extra pointers if you want," there's something in his tone Jolene doesn't like as he adds, "Seeing as you've never played before," but that doesn't stop Jolene interpreting him as sexist.
Jolene skates backwards further away from him, "I'll be fine," she says firmly before looking away from him, calling out to the crew, "Ref, are fist fights allowed like normal hockey or are we not allowed?"
"I have heard some stories. I am not risking that," Lance says, (it wasn't him she wanted the opportunity to punch).
"You afraid to hurt your teammate?" Josh calls to him.
"No, I'm afraid she'll hurt me," Lance says, "Not the other way around,"
"You couldn't hurt me if you tried, Lance," Jolene called out to him.
As they tried to score goals past each other (Jolene was winning) Josh kept finding opportunities to get close to Jolene, she just kept playing Hockey. Daniel and Scotty watch from the sidelines, sometimes they can hear what he says.
"He's flirting with her," Scotty says.
"She has no idea," Daniel knows, he sees her focused on the game and she seems annoyed by Josh.
"You not taught her proper flirting yet, mate?" Scotty jokes.
Daniel laughs before explaining, "She's not expecting it from him,"
"Poor girl," Scotty comments, "She can't even tell when someone who's better has come along and is interested," he jokes at Daniel's expense.
"Shut up," Daniel says, laughing.
There's a pause in the competition and Jolene takes the opportunity to skate over to where Daniel and Scotty are sat. Daniel also has her bag (Piper has her phone though, she forgot it in her pocket till the last second) and her bottle which Daniel hands to her as she reaches them after her, "Hi boys,"
"Hi Wolfie," Scotty says.
Daniel says, "Hi honey," as his greeting. His hand that handed her the bottle rests on the ice rink barrier holding hers, she reaching for it with her free hand instead of holding the side.
"You having fun?" Jolene asks them.
"It's cold," Daniel complains, he's not great with cold weather.
Jolene squeezes his hand lightly, and shakes her head, "It's not that cold,"
"I know," Scotty rolls his eyes, he is a snowboarder after all. Scotty then informs Jolene, "Josh's flirting with you, you know,"
"What? Really?" Jolene had really not put this together, but now he mentions it she starts to see what that tone was.
"God you're oblivious," Daniel says teasingly.
"You know this," Jolene says, she starts to realise, "He offered me some pointers..."
"Flirting," Daniel supplies.
"I just thought he was being sexist," Jolene says and the men both go 'ah', seeing where she's coming from.
"Yeah that isn't always a good move," Scotty says, especially with Jolene, "I'm not helping you unless you asked for it," he tells her.
"So you wouldn't offer me snowboarding tips?" Jolene asks, smiling.
"Not unless you said 'Hey Scotty, can you help me snowboard?', or something similar," Scotty says, which isn't a bad plan.
"Smart, she can do anything," Daniel nods, before adding, "Did you hear about the bar fights?"
"Who's getting in bar fights?" Chloe asks, approaching them on the benches.
"Jolene," Scotty answers.
"Twice," Daniel adds.
"Oh of course she is," Chloe says as she takes her seat next to Scotty.
"I was freshly 21," Jolene defends.
"21 was a rough age," Daniel adds, more for her defence.
Chloe looks towards when the Hockey player is talking to her brother on the ice who keeps looking in this direction, he wouldn't be able to see the still intertwined hands of Jolene and Daniel but he is looking firmly at her back and lower.
"Josh keeps staring at you," Chloe tells Jolene and Jolene rolls her eyes but doesn't look back.
"We've informed her of the flirting," Scotty tells his wife.
"Ah," Chloe nods.
"Wolfie," a voice from the crew calls.
Jolene sighs squeezing Daniel's hand one more time before letting go and saying, "I have to go beat your brother some more,"
"I support you," Chloe says.
Daniel takes the bottle back and the four exchange brief goodbyes before Jolene sails off to beat Lance some more. She also tries to ignore the flirting which feels a bit more like harassment, she's at work and not interested.
At the end they stand on the ice like they did in the beginning, "That were some a good games but there can only be one winner," Josh announces before saying, "Jolene," after a dramatic pause. He goes to hold out a hand for her to shake but Jolene bows and steps to the side to put even more space between them.
"Thank you, thank you," Jolene says as she bows.
"Thanks for watching guys, hopefully I'll have a better weekend on track," Lance says, finishing the video.
"You will," Jolene insists, she's going to make him have a better weekend.
"Thanks for the confidence, Jolene," Lance says, "And thanks to Josh for joining us today,"
"My pleasure," Josh nods.
The video ends and so chatting forms. Jolene finds herself trapped in a conversation with Josh but luckily Lance is there. Josh still asks Jolene, "So do you wanna get a drink after this?" seemingly he was moving past flirting.
"What?" Jolene says, hoping she misheard him and not sure what way she'd turn him down nicely. Also she doesn't want to let him imply she's vain for thinking he wants more than a drink.
"Do you wanna get a drink after this?" Josh, sadly for Jolene, repeats clearly.
Lance can clearly see the panic on Jolene's face, searching for a way to say 'no'. So he says it for her, "She's in a relationship," he supplies before adding, "Great guy, love him,"
Jolene visibly relaxes, "I'll tell him you said that," she pokes fun.
"Please don't," Lance says, joking.
"Where's Piper?" Jolene asks, looking for a way out and saying, "She has my phone," implying she's going to tell her partner what Lance said.
"Don't you dare," Lance says, jokingly.
Jolene laughs as she skates away towards Piper and Daniel who has now joined her at the side.
"It wouldn't work, man," Lance tells Josh, "Get over it," he pats him on the shoulder, "She was clearly not interested," he adds before skating away himself to his sister.
"Hello, loves of my life," Jolene says when she makes it to Daniel and Piper.
"Both of us?" Daniel asks.
"We're in public," Jolene gives as explanation before asking, "Are you sure neither of you want to come on? I'll make sure you don't fall,"
"I'd rather watch you show off," Piper says, Jolene laughs.
"Was I being a bitch to the guy I don't wanna spend anymore time with?" Jolene asks a work question.
"You were playing the game," Piper assures, "You're at work, we only flirt at work because we're friends," she explains.
"She doesn't even flirt with me at work," Daniel says.
"Shut up," Jolene laughs, smiling widely at Daniel.

15th JUNE 2023
ITS MEDIA DAY ONCE AGAIN. Jolene is finishing getting dressed as Daniel exits the bathroom. This has become their typical routine when Daniel is at a race weekend, Jolene uses the bathroom first to get ready. She's always fully dressed when he emerges from a shower. This is partly because she's always early to the track and Daniel doesn't need to be as early as her anyway.
"How much poutine do you think I can fit in this weekend?" Jolene asks, thinking about all the poutine she wants to fit in this week.
"You're leaving for New York Monday morning, correct?" Daniel asks, to work it out.
"Yes," Jolene confirms, "It's a brief stop in New York," she had to get back to the factory to do simulator work before Austria, especially as she would get even less practice with the stupid sprint race to take place that weekend, even though she did win the last one she still did not approve. She also was going to Salzburg before so she (and friends) can do the Sound of Music tour.
"So other than breakfasts you have 8 more meals you could eat it for," Daniel discusses her possible poutine consumption, "Though I doubt Tyrese would approve," he adds, thinking her performance coach might not approve even though she's not on the strictest of diets. They tend to focus more on adding to her diet instead of taking away, and working out too.
"I don't have to tell him," Jolene jokes, she'd probably tell him. She then thinks of another Canadian food she loves,"What about Tim Hortons?"
"Breakfast," Daniel offers a solution, "Also you eat that in the UK,"
"Fair fair, I could probably eat Poutine in the UK..." Jolene says, trailing off as she realises and sits down to tie her shoelaces.
"But it's not the same," Daniel finishes for her.
"Exactly!" Jolene declares, standing up holding out her arms, excited. She walks over to Daniel. He holds out a hand which she accepts as she joked and also means, "We're so made for each other," she says with an exaggerated swoon as Daniel pulls her into him.
"Glad to hear we agree," Daniel smiles down at her.
Their arms wrap around each other and they bask in their closeness and kisses for a bit until one of Jolene's alarms to keep her on time goes off. They jump, laugh before Jolene turns off her phone's alarm that sits on the desk.
"Are you going to tell the press that Lance will win the weekend?" Daniel asks as he gets ready himself and Jolene double (maybe triple checks) she has everything. He understands why she has her plan but he also doesn't understand, he has never had to be so selfless in his career and without prior prompting.
"That he'll be on the podium," Jolene declares, she's not going to declare that she has a plan for his win, not to the press and not for other teams to hear.
In some ways it is bad enough that Daniel knows as he is a member of another team, but she obviously trusts him. The only people she trusts more would be her mum and Piper, she trusts Rachel and Tyrese the same as Daniel which is only a tiny bit less than Piper. Piper and Jolene are bonded in a different way, similar pain, but she is sure Daniel will reach the same level within plenty of time. They have only been together 8 months as of Monday after all.
"Will you?" Daniel asks, enquiring whether her plan will place her on the podium as well.
"No clue," Jolene shrugs, finally grabbing and pulling on her light awash denim jacket.
"Triple denim?" Daniel questions with a smirk as she pulls the jacket on, she was already wearing a denim button up shirt and jeans.
"What? Does it look bad?" Jolene questions, suddenly slightly unsure of the ensemble.
"No you're hot," Daniel says wholeheartedly, he was just surprised by her choice of outfit.
"You always say that," Jolene says because he does always say that. She turns to look into the mirror to adjust her hair and put on her sunglasses.
"Well that's cause you always look hot," Daniel says, "I'm biased you know this," he declares before clarifying, "Canadian tuxedo?"
"I love Canada," Jolene says as explanation, as she turns back to Daniel.
"Really?" Daniel says sarcastically, "I couldn't tell,"
"We have many great things because of Canada," Jolene explains and starts listing, "Poutine, Tim Hortons, Kathryn Ryan, Micheal Cera, the Geneva Convention, Avril Lavigne..."
"The Geneva Convention?" Daniel interrupts, he does not know what she's referring to. Which isn't often a surprise for him as Jolene can reference the most obscure things, some of those things are very obscure to him.
"A lot of war crimes were declared war crimes because of what Canada did in WW1," Jolene explains simply.
"What?" Daniel is taken aback.
"Yeah they were brutal," Jolene continues explaining and gives an example, "They would throw tins of food at the Germans and then when the Germans asked for more they'd throw grenades,"
"Are you serious?" Daniel asks, not disbelieving her but it's a big shock to him.
"I can send you an article," Jolene tells him, "Fascinating stuff," she adds before glancing at her watch, "I've got to go," she says, walking over to kiss him briefly goodbye, "Have a good day,"
"You too," he reciprocates.
Jolene grabs her bag and walks to the door to leave, she stops with her hand to open the door. "Two more things I like about Canada," Jolene says, turning to look over the shoulder at Daniel.
"What other thing did they do?" Daniel responds, wondering what weird fact she will pull out next.
"It has given me a job and you your first win," Jolene answers, her main boss is Canadian after all, "Bye," she says before walking out the door to go and meet Tyrese and Piper downstairs.
AT THE CIRCUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE THE FIA PRESS CONFERENCE WAS ABOUT TO BEGIN. Jolene was on the couch with Valterri, Charles, Oscar and Alex, microphones handed to them as they waited for the questions to begin. They first asked Oscar and Charles questions (in that order) before they turned the questions onto Jolene. "Wolfie, coming to you now. So Ferrari think Aston Martin are going to be strong this weekend. What do you think?"
"We'll have to see," Jolene says with an exaggerated shrug, "But yeah I think it should be a good weekend. But you never know what will happen till you're on track. It should go well but it was supposed to go well in Barcelona but it didn't," she explains, "Sometimes the gravel fucks your floor... and I didn't mean to swear. Sorry," Jolene says, "I couldn't think of a better way to say. But yeah if the weather and gravel behave I think it'll be a good one, and better than Barcelona hopefully. Hopefully I'll still at least be P4," she adds, she's still not lower than P4 and she aims to keep it that way.
The next question for Jolene was, "What are you expecting from the upgrades?"
"We're always trying to improve obviously," Jolene says before talking about some of the more technical sides of the car, "The car has changed a lot from last year, a lot thanks to Seb's insights the past two years. In some ways we've basically got a whole new philosophy and a new concept for how the car works. This means there's a lot we don't know and are discovering new things every race. Obviously it's been working quite well so far so the aim is to optimise the package. What we try to do, and we've been constantly bringing new parts to the races and this is another step forward and more to come in the future,"
"Lawrence Stroll said this week that he'd like to see both of his cars on the podium here. How likely is that?"
Jolene knows that she's going to get Lance on the top step, where she ends up does not matter not to Lawrence, even though he would like both his cars on the podium she knows what she has to deliver for the Stroll family. Even though it was her idea. She can't declare that though so she says, "You never know. We can hope; it's a good target. He's got great ambition, of course he does. I hope we don't disappoint him this weekend. We will try to make him happy and proud at his home Grand Prix. I hope we can get Lance on the podium or maybe more,"
"Is that your main focus for the weekend?"
"My main focus is driving," Jolene answers, dodging the question a bit, "And well, I've won enough gotta give someone else a shot or it'll get boring," she jokes and everyone laughs, "I want my team to do the best possible," she says seriously, "I know when to be selfish and when to win the team game. And I want to play the team game. I have - we have - plans for the weekend that obviously can be affected by anything, especially the weather here. I've not raced here before so I hope to get a good lay of the land during practice,"
Once the questions open up to the floor there are discussions about the possible removal of Tire Blankets. They asked Charles because he did a test and then they brought in Jolene because she's raced in IndyCar which doesn't have Tire Blankets.
Another question from the floor directed at Jolene is from La Presse, a French Language Canadian publication so of course they ask her about Lance. The journalist Simon-Olivier Lorange asks Jolene, "The question is going to be for Wolfie. I guess it's not going to be a surprise to get a question about your team-mate in his hometown here. From your point of view, from what you saw from him, from your relationship with him this season. What do you think must improve, or what is missing in him to not only be a good driver but maybe become a star in the sport?"
Jolene is not sure how to answer, she is ultimately younger in this sport than Lance (he is younger than her though). "Whilst I'm not really sure what the angle you're going for here is, I remind you he's been in this sport since 2017 and this is my 10th Race..." Jolene starts, before launching into Lance praise, "He is obviously very talented, I met him when I started at what was Racing Point around the same time as him. I think he deserves a lot of praise for his performance, especially at the start of this year. It's very impressive to race so well with broken wrists and it's a huge level of commitment to do so. So he's obviously very passionate," Jolene praises, "Past a certain point we have different methods I think, so very little I could say could do anything. But he's a great guy, kind, we come from very different backgrounds but I enjoy working with him. I'm sure he'll make you proud," she says, not sure what else to say that isn't talking about things he could improve.
Jolene's obviously not also going to point out she has no choice but to do well, he has a lot more breathing room, maybe infinite. There's very few, maybe not any, drivers on the Grid who she'd feel the need to secure a win. But as Jolene said earlier, she knows when to be a team player. Jolene also knows when not to be, but right now it benefits her more than the win would, in some ways that could hurt her.

17th JUNE 2023
SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN ASTON MARTIN THEY ARE PREPARING FOR QUALIFYING. There's mechanics checking the cars, data being looked over and many other preparations taking place in the garage. At the back Jolene stands with Lance, to make her plan go smoother they have to spend the race together. So qualifying together is key, "Remember we need to get to Q3, I'll give you a tow. And we need to qualify together," Jolene repeats the plan again.
"I know," Lance nods, he looks at her and asks, "Why are you doing this?"
"Because I can," Jolene says, she's not untruthful, "Don't worry about it. You can do it, I know you can. Don't you wanna do it?"
"Of course I do," Lance responds, because obviously he does.
"Then listen to me," Jolene instructs him, "Don't bother trying to figure out how my brain works, that's my therapist's job," she comments.
"You better pay them a lot," Lance comments.
Jolene makes an exaggerated shocked expression, "Don't be mean to me I'm helping you win a race," she swats at him lightly.
Lance laughs, "Sorry," he says, "I just don't fully get it,"
"The plan?" Jolene asks.
"No, why you made it," Lance clarifies.
"You winning helps me," Jolene says, "Especially if I... helped," Jolene almost says orchestrated it but that wouldn't help her with Lance, "Helping you realise your potential is gonna help us all," she finishes.
Lance looks like he might get it, "Ah, yeah I see that,"
Jolene says, "Remember the plan and good luck," before walking to her side of the garage.
Qualifying gets Jolene a result she wants/she can work with. She got P4 and he got P6, so they'll be close enough but there's a lot of talking and planning in the debrief that afternoon. But tomorrow Jolene's plan comes to fruition, and she will have her leeway, leverage and something to hold up and say 'I got you what you wanted', which will definitely be useful in the still ongoing contract negotiations, and probably the future too.

18th JUNE 2023
WATER DROPLETS RUN DOWN JOLENE'S ARMS. She's pulling herself out of the hotel pool after her many more laps in the pool. It's the early morning of Race Day and she's the only one in the pool, other than Tyrese. She starts Race Days like this more often than not. The cold water helps wake her up. And it feels nice too. It helps put her in the place for racing. This morning she was running over her plan for the race in her head. Jolene often did that before the race, but this felt bigger. She had promised to get Lance a win, admittedly it was her decision/idea but she is simply getting a head of it. Especially as she plans to win at least 2 more races this season, so she's gotta give it to Lance so he has something.
So the Strolls are not embarrassed when she wins so much and he is not on the podium. She knows that he is capable. She just hopes he will be consistent, and race well this afternoon. At least they won't be too far from each other, Jolene factored Lance not being near the front into her plan. She would have liked to share a row or not have a car in-between them but she will make do. She will just hang back off the line if she feels it necessary.
Jolene dries herself off and showers, saying goodbye to Tyrese in the lift before returning to her bedroom.
She's got a towel around her neck as she steps into her and Daniel's hotel room. She smiles when she sees him, and he smiles too, especially because she's wearing his shirt.
The first thing he says as she puts her bag down is, "You beat me too it,"
That shocks and confuses Jolene, "What?"
"You wished my dad a Happy Fathers Day before me," Daniel tells her.
She had woken up earlier than him, remembering the day she sent out the text to her hopefully future father in law and Paul, Percy's stepdad. Jolene worries she overstepped, "Should I not have?"
"No, no, no," Daniel assures, "You're just showing me up," he tells her before adding, "Don't worry, I am used to it by now,"
Jolene leans on the desk, rolling her eyes. She then tells him, "I hope you will focus on showing up Red Bull drivers instead,"
"I am, don't worry," Daniel assures, stepping into her space "I will have to prove myself at that tyre test at Silverstone," he says casually, with the confidence he's been regaining in his racing ability. Jolene's confidence in him is helping.
"I'm sure you will," Jolene repeats her confidence in him, "I know you will,"
He kisses her briefly before pulling away and saying, "Just as I know your plan will work," he reciprocates the confidence, "It will work, whatever it is," he steps back to give her space but rubs as assuring hand along her bare arm.
"It is not my plan or my abilities I'm worried about," Jolene tells him.
"Why would you be?" Daniel says, like it's obvious before adding, "And if Lance messes it up it's not your fault,"
Jolene sighs, "I have less to use to my advantage,"
"You have talent," Daniel says simply.
"Not a billionaire dad," Jolene says, "Or any dad. No matter how many messages I sent out," she doesn't normally want a dad, even on Fathers day, but no other driver's dad owns the team in the same way.
"Because you did not need one," Daniel assures, "You and your mum are strong enough on your own,"
"Well I don't have her anymore," Jolene sighs, she feels the name to clarify, "I don't want to imply I wish to have a relationship with Will and I's... father," she doesn't even like referring to him as that, "I have all I need from him. I have genes and a brother. He is not someone I wish to know,"
"I know," Daniel understands, "You can rely on me," he assures.
"It's not the same," Jolene says, she goes to say that doesn't mean it isn't important.
"I know," Daniel said, he had his own career to advocate for. He also had two parents and a lot more support for most of his career than her. "I'm sure Piper can do better than anyone else," he suggests.
Jolene laughs, "Of course," she nods before saying, "Sorry to do this. I'm fine," she says, holding her hands up.
"You don't need to apologise," Daniel assures, taking one of her hands.
"I think I am not as happy to give him the win this morning," Jolene say, looking down at his thumb stroking her hand, "No one has ever given me everything I have had to work twice as hard," she says, frustrated, "Not twice, more than twice,"
"I agree," Daniel nods.
Jolene looks at his face, she sighs. He smiles at her, and Jolene feels better.
"However it is going to help in the long run," she declares. As she reaches to pull Daniel closer there's a knock at the door, "What's that?"
"Tim Hortons," Daniel says, reluctantly letting go of her hand and walking to the door.
"Thank god," Jolene commented gladly as he walked to the door to get the breakfast and coffee he'd ordered for them to eat together that morning.
FROM THE COCKPIT JOLENE CONTROLLED NOT JUST HER OWN RACE BUT LANCE'S TOO. She raced not for herself, but only for the team, so in the future she can be sure to just race for herself. Even though she's not sure that will always work. Especially because she wants to win a championship. Not a constructor’s (she's not sure how that will go either) but a driver’s. That's why she's not aiming for it this year. Lance was 8th in the standings, with 35 points; Jolene was 3rd in the standings, with 119 points. Jolene has three times the points of Lance. So her plan is needed.
At the start Jolene falls back to be in front of Lance, to punch throw the air for him, so his tires can be protected, he's going to stay out longer than her.
As the race progresses Jolene dictates when her and Lance will box so they come out together. She talks with her race engineer cryptically after pre-arranging to do so.
Everyone is pitting and she decides when she and Lance should pit. She says on the radio, "18, 36," the 18 referring to Lance and the 36 is the lap number to pit on.
"Higher, lower?" Chris, her race engineer asks, asked about when she’s pitting.
"Lower," Jolene answered, she just meant one lap before she'd say closer, "Just about lower,"
On Lance's radio the race engineer tells him, "We will hold out," after Lance has been asking about pitting, his engineer had told him he'd get back to him. They were waiting for Jolene's answer, Jolene's conditions for the plan was that they had to listen to her.
"After?" Lance asks, wondering if Jolene pits after him or first.
"For you," the engineer confirms, Jolene is first.
"Are we sure?" Lance clarifies.
"Very sure," his engineer insists before saying, "Jo says,"
"Just checking," Lance knows they're talking about Jolene, she set out the codes for the radio.
She even gives ideas for changes to the settings for Lance on the radio, "Double setting XV2," she says, meaning they should both be in setting 17, XVII in Roman numerals.
They've discussed this so the message to, "Adjust to 17," is passed onto Lance, not seeming connected to the other teams/audience.
After basically everyone else, the people Jolene has to worry about, has pitted Jolene finally says, "42 in 3," it was lap 32 she was going to pit the lap before Lance.
"Copied," her engineer says.
She still says half way through lap 35, "Box, box, box," as is the practice.
The pit stop goes well and next lap Lance receives the message, "Lance, box, box, box," after losing Jolene's position in front of him.
He does come out into Jolene's perfectly prepared gap. Just behind her. Soon nearer the end of the race, would be the biggest part of her plan.
Jolene has them running second and third. That could be enough another day, but Jolene has a different promise to fulfil. In front of them is the car of Lewis Hamilton. With the laps ending soon she decides to enact her plan.
"Twist coming into the bet on two 4s, 1 dice," Jolene says, she's going to make her move on Lewis at the part of the track named Casino.
"Move with just one dice?" Chris confirmed.
"Just one," Jolene confirms, next lap.
"Roll next lap," Lance's engineer tells him after Jolene confirms.
Lance acknowledged the message.
So on the Casino Straight just before she enacts her plan she says "4," on the radio and it's repeated to a close behind her Lance. Jolene attempts to make moves on Lewis Hamilton. She's not really trying, she's just trying to put him on his guard. She does it four times before pulling back and when Lewis thinks he's safe from her this time Lance comes around from behind her, with DRS and makes it past Lewis. Especially as Jolene slams on her break to slow down, she has worn down her tires and is in Lewis's way so he can't get to Lance.
Lance is leading the race with only a handful of laps left. Jolene has tires, losing grip, so Charles makes it past and onto the podium instead of her. But that's Jolene's job done. She can't help Lance anymore against Lewis but luckily she doesn't have too.
So Jolene's plan works and Lance Stroll wins the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. Crossing the line first. Aston Martin is ecstatic, of course. She gets a lot of thanks on the radio. As she should. Jolene pulls herself out of the car and see's Lance celebrating. Her plan worked. And she's kind of glad she didn't have to be on the podium for it. It's nicer this way. She can watch with the team. Watch their achievement.
Lance comes over to where she's getting out the car and putting her steering wheel back on. He taps her on the back and when she turns, both their helmets still on he clearly says, "Thank you,"
"Congratulations, Lance," Jolene says in response as he pulls her into a hug.
Soon he's being interviewed, stating it was her plan, and Jolene's with the other drivers.
There's other good news. Alex got P7. Jolene rushes over to him after they've been weighed.
"Oh my god, P7," Jolene says, hugging Alex.
"Yeah," Alex says, happily.
"Congrats," Jolene says as they pull back, "You deserve it, so much man,"
"Thanks," Alex says, appreciative before asking, "How did Lance win?"
"Me," Jolene states simply before adding, "It was my idea,"
"You are crazy," Alex shakes his head.
"I'm playing a bigger game here, Alex," Jolene explains, "We did it my way," they exchange a look and Alex gets it.
"Ah, I get it," Alex nods before saying, "So, congrats?"
"Yes," Jolene nods, it's good to think of it that way. She achieved it. She changes the subject back to Alex, "I'm so happy for you. Williams better keep this up. Because if James fucks you over I will fight him," she tells him, once again threatening someone else's boss.
"Thank you, I believe you," Alex says, he does believe she would fight James.
Jolene laughs, "See ya," she sees looking at the time, she needs to get the podium. She starts to walk away.
"Media is that way," Alex points in the opposite direction.
"I've gotta watch my handy work on the podium, dude," Jolene explains.
"I don't get you," Alex shakes his head.
"You don't have to," Jolene shrugs, walking off.
Jolene integrates herself into the crowd of Aston Martin workers, still in her green racing suit. She's welcomed in by the crew watching, they know it was her doing. She's brought to the front, and ends up next to Mike, her team principal. He claps her on the shoulder and says, "Good job, Wolfie. You really know how to win," because he knows that ultimately Jolene won them that race. She could have won it on her own.
She smiles at the acknowledgement as they turn and watch Lance be crowned the winner. Jolene moves back when the champagne comes out though, not wanting the champagne smell for a win that wasn't hers.
Lawrence seeks her out as the crowd disperses. He holds a hand out and says, "Thank you, Jolene," the handshake is accepted as he says, "We're really grateful,"
"I know," Jolene says, confidently before adding, "You're welcome," the hand shake ends and she says, "Happy Fathers Day,"
Lawrence laughs, "Thank you, you too,"
Jolene laughs, "No need. I don't have one of those," she says, almost as if to say she doesn't need one, she's better. She then comments, "It's a good anthem,"
"Thank you," Lawrence laughs again, "We've got you lots of poutine," he tells her, he knows how much they owe her, even a man like Lawrence has it written on his face.
"That's what I do it for," Jolene jokes, but they both know it's not true and they part ways.
Jolene greatly enjoys the poutine though. She gets changed for the media and grabs a portion of poutine. She shows up in the media pen with it. It doesn't go unnoticed, "Is that Poutine?"
"I'm starving," Jolene says as an explanation, she normally eats a cereal bar after a race but she's happy to eat that too, "And addicted," she adds as a joke putting another spoon in her mouth.
The interviewer turns to the questions, one that everyone is wandering after Lance's post-race interview, "So Lance said it was your plan?"
"It was, I came up with the idea and decided to do it," Jolene confirms, telling the truth but leaving out the in-team politics that she saw coming and deciding to get ahead of it, "They listened and here we are. Now Lance will have the confidence to do it again in the future. It's always nice to watch someone win at home too," she explains more.
"So it was your idea?" they seek confirmation.
"All me, baby," Jolene comments, jokingly before adding, "Obviously the team helped me refine it and everyone did so well playing their parts. It only worked because Lance was good enough to make it work,"
"And you were too," the interviewer adds.
"We know that," Jolene says, because they do before talking about the team, "This good for the team. And what's good for the team is good for me. I'm embedded her I want to do my best for them and Lance is great, our hockey teams aren't massive rivals so I don't hate him," she says, making a joke at the end, "He was super impressive and so was Alex actually. I am so proud of Alex. P7 in a Williams is huge," she adds, "That's so good for Alex. So good I have to congratulate him again and flirt with his girlfriend with a mouth full of Poutine so see ya," she ends the interview to repeat the process again several more times.
She gets many pats on the back from the team. Massive hugs from Piper, Rachel and Daniel (he kisses her too, in private). Lily hugs her too. She eats more poutine, whilst taking the team photo with the boards she has it in her hands. She agrees to go out to celebrate. She puts on her jeans and has fun before going back to the hotel, making an instagram post and falling asleep on top of Daniel as he watches something NFL related on the television, she knew that would happen.
