I have been thinking about these tags since I saw these on my meta analysis post about Gale's romance. Here's specifically MY Tav unpacking it because it's definitely different for every Tav but I've been rotating this thought in my head. Thank YOU for your wonderful addition to my post.

"What did you mean?" She asks softly.

He looks up at her from the book he's reading. "About?"

"you said," she says slowly. "That you loved me more than Mystra. What did you mean by that?"

"I think it's rather self explanatory."

She closes her hand around her holy symbol and presses it against his chest softly.

He looks down at it, "that's your conduit for magic, why are you trying to give it to me?"

"Just, hold it." She instructs.

He takes it in his hand, metal in the shape of a rising sun still warm from being against her skin. Or is it an innate part of Lathander's domain? He does not know.

She exhales slowly, "there are... A lot of ways to love a God, Gale. None of them are fitting of a mortal. You said... You said you love me more than Mystra do you really feel that way?"

"of course, I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true."

"would you be able to produce magic with that?" She asks softly.

"no, it's not my holy symbol."

"you're not a cleric, Gale. Mystra's domain is the weave but she does not grant you your power. Your study, your skill, that does. You say you love me more than Mystra you are placing me among the Gods. I- I'm not... Worthy is the wrong word."

"you're worth so much more."

"I am not." She cuts him off. "I am not, not because of loathing or some innate humbleness that you could not hope to achieve. No, I am not to be placed amongst the gods because I am a person. To place me...on that pedestal. It's unfair to you. I will fail you."

"you won't." He insists.

"I will, because I am human. I will make mistakes. I want to spend a lifetime with you Gale, to pretend otherwise, to pretend that I won't carelessly ignore your feelings or you I, on accident, or say something that hits a little too close to home... It's a folly. You have... You have devotion in you, the likes of which most clerics could only ever dream to possess. You sought this orb in some greater move for your Goddess and she cast you out for it. But you are not a cleric, you bend the weave with skill far more than I could ever dream of possessing. She does not make you. I do not make you. If Lathander were to cast me out..." Her tongue feels heavy. "Shadowheart was...lucky. Selunê maintains her abilities... You told me. You told me to hold onto the great gift my God gives me... And I think you're right, it is a gift, one that can be taken away. What you have is a skill... So what did you mean when you said you loved me more than Mystra? Because to place me among the Gods alienates me too far from you. I do not want to be worshipped, I just want to be with you."

There is something unspoken in those words.

If I had to, I would reject everything I've ever studied and practiced and worshipped to keep you by my side.

How do you find face claims for your ocs?

for me its kind of different for each oc! but generally i tend to come up with a vibe that i want during the character creation process and just kind of. let the faceclaim come to me, lol. i know thats super unhelpful but with audrey for example i know i just wanted her to have a strong nose and hair thats dyed grey. and then later on i saw a gif set of terry farrel as jadzia and i was like oh! thats audrey! for harriet i went in wanting her to be hot but in a mature way? i wanted her to look like she could be a femme fatale in a movie from the 40s or 50s since thats the vibe of fallout. so after some pinterest hunting i settled on her being a mix of joan crawford and ava gardner meanwhile for aeres it basically went like. i thought one of the elf heads from baldur's gate 3 vaguely resembled lauren bacall so i just decided her faceclaim was lauren bacall. lmfao. there are faceclaim websites around! with headshots of lots of different actors and with some of them you can categorise by age, gender, race, etc. ive never found these particularly helpful because for me the faceclaim always fits better if i just let it come to me naturally instead of actively hunting for one but this can take a while and isnt an immediate solution. sorry this isnt very helpful jhdfjhdf

2024 Writing Round-Up

Additional Words Written: 66,764 (hi, Secret TTRPG Joan Lore document only one other person has access to). If we're counting drafted stuff that isn't ready to post, easily another 10k on top of that.

New Things I Tried: Finally posted a BG3 one shot after noodling on my bazillion Tavs for a year!

Fic I Spent the Most Time On: I will finish Endurance if it kills me, I swear to Pete.

Fic I Spent the Least Time On: Probably Lessons, but mostly because it was sitting half-written in drafts and is closer to drabble length (I need to become more comfortable with posting small things instead of waiting for everything to hit a certain word limit).

Favorite Thing I Wrote: Stray Seeking Stray again. It was fun taking a new OC's POV out for a spin, especially one I got to be a bit more chaotic with!

Writing Goals for 2025: See below, but generally just posting more and making progress on Endurance!

New Works: Let's see, new works written for 2024 is Masked, in addition to Lessons and Stray Seeking Stray. For 2025, I'd like to get some Veilguard stuff up with my canon Rook and make some tangible progress on Endurance again (special thanks to the folks who commented on that, I'll see if I can make 2025 a year with more than one chapter update! 😅)

Choosing all the "gale, that's super hubristic >:c How dare you >:c" responses with Elisset my gay projection tiefling is really funny bc. In baldur's gate 3, elisset is a cleric of Ilmater, but she started as a Pathfinder OC who worships Iomedae, Golarion's Joan of Arc inspired war goddess. Combine that with the "closest thing I have to a self-insert" thing and. Girl you don't have a leg to stand on here. You're not making the right decisions, you're just not in the right universe to make the wrong ones

Pain radiates through his body, he cannot think with the blood pooling around him. He cannot die like this can he? Not when there's so much on the line. Weave save him, he cannot hold on much longer.

It is warm. It is not the weave. Whatever it is it is gentle and warm and magical.

His eyes open, then squints as he takes in her blinding radiance. She's glowing. Literally glowing.

He's not surrounded by blood, he's in a bed at camp and…

"Morning handsome," she says gently. He is being wrapped with a balm.

"Did we make it?"

"She's dead. Astarion killed her—hey stay still!" She smacks him lightly, it radiates through his bones like the sound of metal against metal.

"Okay okay stay still, got it." He looks up at the sky. "Did Shadowheart—"

"No."

"Then who?"

She leans over him brushing some hair out of his face and applying something that smelled repugnantly medicinal to a bruise on his face, "I wasn't raised to be a medic for no reason, Gale."

"You're very …bright." Is all he can manage.

"Huh?"

He blinks slowly, trying to find the words. "You're glowing."

She grabs a small thing from her bag and…oh it shines a light. She's checking pupil dilation and eye movement. He's read about that before.

"You're concussed." She announces. "Next time, let me handle the paladin? Okay?"

"You look…divine."

"And you look like your brain has been smacked around your skull with the force of a divine smite. Do so try not to anger the Gods or their chosen. Whatever this Absolute is, I don't think it's to be trifled with."

"Of course, your high priestess, it is so terribly my fault she knocked me into oblivion." He retorts.

"Not oblivion, maybe a level of avernus, but not oblivion. And it's not High Priestess."

"Then what shall I call you, hmm?"

"I'm just a Dawnbringer. If you must address me so formally at all."

"I don't quite recall catching your name Miss Dawnbringer."

"yeah that's the fucking concussion Gale. My name's Joan, it's a pleasure to be reacquainted with you, there's only so much my divine magic can do for your squishy little body." Joan pokes his sides gauging some wounds. "You'll be fine though."

"Oh you call this fine, huh?" He scoffs.

"Are you dead?" She raises an eyebrow. He doesn't respond. "You're welcome, now if you want to stay not dead don't get the attention of the angry Paladin. You are wearing ROBES."

"hey! They're very good robes."

"They were, until you took a divine smite to the cranium."

"what happened to my robes?" He tries to sit up.

She smacks him again, "I said quit moving, I mended them. Gods..."

The smack ripples through his joints, but he feels woozy just sitting up. Slowly he lays back down. "Yeah... okay. Maybe you're right."

She scoffs, "Of course I'm fucking right, I've spent my whole life studying medicine Gale! I'm going to let you rest, if I catch you moving I will bind you down. We need you rested."

Dusk settles over the restless camp, but Wyll can't sleep. Something about his commander, no, his friend Joan has been off since Moonrise Tower and they are about to set off towards Baldur's Gate. She is Baldurian, he knows. She should be excited, no? Who is he kidding, with the recent light of everything that there is to do. With Orin and Gortash and the Elder Brain, he is also not excited.

There's a muffled sound from the tent, slowly he opens the flap.

Joan is cutting her locs. His eyes widen at the sight, the streaks of makeup and mess of ash from a knocked over incense holder.

"Hey…hey hey hey are you okay?"

Joan sobs, dropping the dagger and covers her face. He kneels down in front of her. "Joan. Joan…" he pulls her into a tight embrace and looks at the severed locs around her.

"Shhh shhhhhh, you're okay now." He whispers.

She wails, fingers curling around him, gripping him so tight he can barely breathe.

"Ah- let me- help." He wheezes.

Slowly she releases him. He shifts through her bag and gets a comb. "Do you want me to take them down?"

"It'll take days!" she sobs again.

"I'll stay up and when it's done we'll braid it okay?"

"I don't deserve you."

His eye softens, realising what's wrong. Oh Gods, a memory of everyone teasing her at the campfire runs itself up, she's only a year younger than him. She's the youngest of this group. "No, we don't deserve you. We've been pushing you so hard…all of us…you're so…"

"Don't. Say it." She seethes. "I don't want to hear it, I don't want to be strong anymore, I just…"

He shakes his head, "of course, it's terrible that you've been forced to be so strong. You're right, you're being so brave though, so why don't you let me take care of you?"

She curls up, "okay… promise?"

"Promise," He smiles.
