Fun silly fact about Valyr’s original concept is that she was like a blue-ish purple and had ice powers but it didn’t really fit her vibe so now she has lava powers and stuff. Her new dragon element is obsidian too!

She was a platinum dragon originally but I wanted to change that to avoid folks confusing her with Branlin or thinking Valyr was directly connected to the royal family or something.

For Blou (Branlin and Luciano)

1. What drew your character to their LI and vice versa?

Luciano was drawn to Branlin because while traveling together, he found their personalities mesh together very well, plus she’s super cute and he loves listening to her talk about things that interest her. She’s got a cute voice.

6. Who is the big spoon? 

Lou is usually the big spoon, but he also really loves Branlin being his jetpack.

9. How open are they with their feelings?

Lou is pretty open about his romantic feelings and likes to vocalize his affection all the time. Other feelings, he usually bottles up, especially those regarding his family, but Branlin eventually becomes someone he confides in and tells everything.

13. How do they react at being away from each other?

Lou tries to put on a strong act. He doesn’t like being away from Branlin, and if it’s a long separation, he’ll keep saying he’ll see her soon, trying to convince himself. Burying any negative emotions with “soon. I’ll see her soon.”  

14. Is their anything they associate with each other?

Lou associates Branlin with warmth, fire, books, heights, braids, long conversations, sweet kisses. 

15. Does their view of themselves differ from their partner’s view?

HMMM, probably. I’m not really sure how Branlin views him in detail, but Lou hides a lot of his more complicated opinions and feelings until he’s more comfortable so there would be some difference. Also, I imagine he’s a lot harder on himself. 

22. From the outside looking in, what is their dynamic like?

Did Branlin need a dragon sized microscope to make that tiny charm on Isaac's tail?

Hehe I imagine she had a big magnifying glass over a large crafting bench and used little tools to put it together.

Is there a special event or holiday uniquely in your world that you could share with us? I wonder how your characters would react when confronted with a vastly different culture than theirs...

I keep wanting to draw the big Equinox Festival in Isaac's hometown but I never have the time or energy to figure it all out. The whole town gets covered in decorations and bright colorful star shaped lights are placed everywhere. There's ceremonial dances and offerings given symbolically to a statue of their guardian deity. There's also fun carnival type games and attractions!

I actually made a song almost 4 years ago for the exact scenario you described, when Isaac takes Branlin to his hometown during the festival and it's rather hectic and overwhelming for her (warning, it's old so it's kinda rough all over):

Were there any hilarious hijinks involved with sneaking someone as big as Branlin into the city or was it surprisingly easy with no problems whatsoever?

I can’t imagine what’s funnier tbh. Them sneaking through the streets at night and Branlin trying to hide behind objects that are clearly too small, or them just sticking her under a blanket in their carriage and the gate inspector sees a giant tail poking out of it and decides they don’t wanna deal with that and just lets them pass

If Branlin has been living in the wilderness for years, would that mean that she would be unfamiliar with common phrases that are used?

For example: Telling her something will "blow your mind" could scare her into not wanting to hear it out of fear of her mind exploding! Or telling her something will "knock your socks off" could confuse her since she doesn't wear socks.

hmmm not necessarily! she met somebody who looked after her for a few years shortly after she ran away and it's not like she was lost. she just avoided towns and cities because she was likely to be killed. considering that there was a literal war with the dragons going on at the time.

she might be a little out of the loop but she's not like totally socially oblivious. Well, i say that but she's not really that familiar with culture outside of her own and only picks up on things she hears from passersby on the roads and whatnot.

Adding to the other ask, it also allows more creative solutions to difficult scenarios instead of forcing a monster character to hide their identity until the end, only for them to be instantly accepted once revealing that form. Despite the area they exist in having generations of trauma against said species.

yup yup! i really wanna explore this a lot with Branlin as a character because she exists in a world that does not cater to dragons in the slightest due to the kingdom of dragons being heavily isolated until literally waging war on everyone around them

Who's the subject of this piece? And do they fit into your current canon?

I haven't drawn her in literally years but she does fit into my current canon. Her name is Branlin and I happen to have 2 other newer characters with similarly structured names. I wonder if there's a reason for that?

What are the main cast's (Branlin, Maya, Zee, Isacc) hobbies? Do they even have one?

Branlin spent a lot of time bored and alone so she makes silly "sculptures" and other random crafts out of whatever she can find. Like little statues made of trees, rocks and stuff. She makes more complex stuff once they make it to the city and she has access to better tools and materials

Maya dedicates most of her time to her magic research, be that rune etching or potion brewing, but she also plays a custom harp like instrument that's basically a slightly bigger lyre (idk if something like that exists irl)

Zee spends as much time possible sleeping or occupying themself with work. Be that mercenary work or doing random chores. They have cycled through several hobbies but don't really care to do much of anything anymore.

Isaac loves tinkering with machines and building contraptions of his own! the gun he carries around is a modified prototype his mom left behind when she died. He's interested in researching ancient technology in order to improve his own work! He also likes cooking but it's less of a hobby.

So, if the game featuring Branlin, Issac, and the others is an RPG, what class/archetype would Branlin be, combat-wise? A magic build, a melee build, or something else? Branlin is probably my favorite (probably cuz she's a dragon), and I'm curious about this.

She starts out with mostly melee attacks! She doesn't like fighting so she's kinda clumsy, but she has a big spear and probably attacks with that and closer range with a lot of stomps. However, she has incredibly high magic potential. It's just a matter of her actually learning to control and harness that power...

also she can breathe fire but that's not really practical when trying to keep a low profile and not burn down forests.
