#oc: LaLi

Pleaaase tell me about your favorite GemOc/Sona. I haven't used mine in eons, but I miss the incredible designs and stories people used to put into theirs.

OKAY SO I GOT LIKE A LOT OF GEM OCS HERE SO I MIGHT RAMBLE

BUT THE MAIN ONES I LOVE AND HAVE THE MOST LORE FOR ARE: LaLi (Lapis Lazuli, she/her), Pearl (he/him), and Bear (Pink Beryl, they/he) !

Together, they are the Flower Gems—sworn protectors of preserving the Earth's beauty, flora, and fauna.

Starting with my dear LaLi, she was the first gem oc (used to be gemsona) i made back in 2014 !! Here's her most up-to-date visual vs her first one owo

Lapis Lazuli's are my fav gemstones (thanks hamtaro) and i made her before SU Lapis was announced/revealed. LaLi is a friendly gem who loves sparring, human culture, photography, playing the piano, and meeting new beings. She can manipulate both water and sand, but she mainly prefers fighting with her Khopesh sword weapon. She taught herself how to fight by watching some soldier gems during her terraforming days.

She grew a bond with Pearl when she was assigned to aid his superior, Petalite, and wanted to get to know him more. During the time of the rebellion, Petalite abandoned Pearl when their ship was attacked, causing LaLi to whisk Pearl away to Earth away from the danger. There, she and Pearl began to grow closer and find themselves in their new world. They even had their first fusion (Prehnite) on Earth !

She started out pretty silent and observant, but she soon blossomed into an outgoing type who wants to fight for her friends (and fight in general, she loves to fight). She's still very much observant tho, making sure their world is free from dangers and her buddies are doing okay, becoming the de facto leader of the Flower Gems.

Next up, we have my second gem oc (also used to be gemsona) Pearl ! I created Pearl before there were any lore or information that there were other Pearls as well as Pearl being my birthstone and another favorite gemstone of mine :3

I haven't made a new visual for him, but here's his sort of up-to-date visual vs his first one

At first, Pearl's lore was that he was a Homeworld Gem that had a past with LaLi and came down to Earth to retrieve her. He was sort of an antagonist to her. Now, as explained above, he was saved by LaLi and lived life with her on Earth to protect it's life. He was a self-proclaimed Fire Flower Knight.

Pearl is a somewhat snooty and arrogant gem who likes to keep up appearances and make sure everything is in proper check if LaLi is off doing her own thing. He can manipulate fire/heat and has a Glaive weapon. He's pretty hard to read and doesn't like to hang out with other as much as LaLi does, but he does like spending time with her, playing the violin, and sparring. Once you get to know him, he's pretty soft and kind and deathly afraid of rabbits. He's usually in charge of doing retcons and keeping maps and charts of places they've been.

Overall, Pearl is a pretty loyal gem who grew to be his own being and not allow to be controlled or shaped to fit anyone that didn't allow him to just be himself.

Lastly of the trio, we have Bear ! They also lack an updated ref, but here's their most up-to-date visual vs their first one !

Bear's lore is that they were once a scholar gem on Homeworld, tasked with other Beryls to keep track of Gem History and Culture. His rank was pretty high and respected and he played his part and didn't care much for other gems nor the rebellion. However, in some of his notes on Earth where he jotted down it's beauty, the other beryls interpreted as Bear becoming rogue and planned to have him interrogated. Around the same time, he encountered another former high ranking gem, now turned "defect" by the name of Dentritic Agate (Dendé). Long story short, Dendé attacked Bear for being to nosey in his business and the two sort of have a history of not liking each other. They did end up crossing paths on Earth later on.

Bear ended up on Earth escaping his interrogation where they knew they were going to either get shattered or bubbled forever. Because of this, they were labeled a "traitor" and had a bounty on their head. He ended up getting wrapped up in the Gem War and poofed on the battle field, however, his gem managed to get buried underground for years. Eventually, he managed to reform by tapping into his latent earth manipulation, resurfacing to a new world.

With no one to turn to, Bear isolated themselves from other beings, trusting no one, but found comfort and solace with the Earth and animals around him. They ended up taking up forms of animals he befriended, especially a family of bears he was "adopted" into. He soon encountered humans, but kept his distance. However, these humans were destroying the forest he resided in, so he took on multiple forms of animals to drive them away, soon becoming an urban legend of a Shapeshifting Forest Protector.

i know i do want to work on his backstory more, but essentially he did end up getting close to a human after saving them and the human pestering them to be friends. Bear watched was there in the human's life watching them grow and have a family until one day their village was attacked and burned to the ground. The human ultimately got caught in cross fire and subsequently died in Bear's presence. Wanting to protect the place this human cared so much about, Bear shapeshifted into a multitudes of beasts and laid waste to the pillagers, but indirectly destroyed what little the village had left.

The remnant of people, including the human's family that survived, connected that Bear was that one myth of the forest, took it as a bad omen, and tried to have him killed. He ended up fleeing and never wanted to get close to humans again. Years later, he was founded by LaLi who was so ecstatic to see another gem and wanted him to join her small gem group of two. At first, Bear was annoyed, but LaLi's continuous pestering reminded him of his late human.

Begrudgingly, he joined her and found home with LaLi and Pearl. He was left alone to his own devices and mainly either stayed in his room or tended the gardens around their base. He tolerated the two and even saw them as family, SOMEWHAT, but he doesn't show it. He does care about them in his own, indirect way, and eventually made it his goal to become stronger to keep those he holds dear safe.

Oh also, they can manipulate Earth and their weapons are Dual Tonfas nwn they love playing their flute and tending flowers

Febuwhump day 5: Not trusting reality

CWs: Blood, implied torture & captivity, some nasty descriptions maybe?

Luna didn’t believe what was in front of her, at first.

The muffled voices of Arielle, Lali and Lis barely made it to her ears, as if they were stuffed by water, and all she could make out was that they were worried and rushed and panicked.

Not at her, though.

She fell to her knees.

Kaiki was there. They’d found him. They’d finally found him.

But he wasn’t right. He was sitting down with his arms hanging over his head, by... chains? His bleached blond hair was falling in front of his face, loose and stiff and soaked. It was dark at the roots. It was also dark at the tips. Kaiki didn’t seem to recognize them. He had a vacant look on his face.

And he was soaked in blood.

Luna moved her hand in front of her mouth to avoid throwing up. Was that all his own? No. That couldn’t be. His chest was bare, and his skin was crossed by scars. There were large ones. Small ones. Luna thought one of them looked like a heart. Some of them had spiky edges. They were over his ribs. Over his lungs. They went up all the way over his neck. There was a big one on his throat. There was also a huge, wide hole where his gut should be. She could see some bones. And flesh. And lots of red. Like some dead deer she’d seen in cartoons.

But it wasn’t a deer. That was her brother.

No, it couldn’t—that couldn’t be true. Luna choked out a sob. And then, right before her eyes, it was like time was retreating and making the flesh piece itself together. Regenerating. More blood appeared. Kaiki coughed and some dripped from his mouth. When she dropped her gaze to it again, his belly wasn’t that much of a hole anymore.

Luna stayed there, mouth fallen open, knelt down and unable to fix her gaze in any other direction.

That had to be some sort of nightmare.

“-na. Luna!” Someone yelled in her ear. Luna winced and looked their way.

Lis was shaking her by the shoulders.

“Luna, you have to get a hold of yourself! Kaiki needs you. We need you awake. Do not faint on me right now. Are you hearing me?”

She slowly nodded.

“She’s too out of it!” Arielle screamed from far, far away. “Lali, help me break those chains. We need to get out of here!”

With a loud clang, her brother’s arms fell limp and he falled forward. Lali’s big figure catched him. He was shaking as he carried him up.

Oh, yeah. Up. She needed to get up.

They needed to get out.

They had Kaiki now.

Luna’s lungs filled themselves with air, and she felt like she’d been holding her breath. Everyone’s voices and all the noise that wasn’t making into her ears until now flooded her senses, and then a strong smell of blood reached her nostrils as well. She covered her nose with a hand and got up.

“Here,” Luna whispered—okay. She didn’t mean for her voice to come out that low—, running to Lali, who was having a hard time taking cuffs out of Kai’s hands with his own hands busy holding him up. “Lemme do this one.” Before he could retort with something like get off, I can do it on my own, she clenched her hand around the little bag of sand in her pocket and conjured up enough energy to break them. The metal cracked, and then fell split open.

��Guards are coming!” Lis said from the door. Arielle had moved to her side as well, to help Lis in guarding it. “Luna needs to open up the way, now.”

“Don’t we need to—to heal him or something?” She asked, looking down at Kai. His eyes were not closed, but he didn’t look like he was seeing anything in front of him. And now that she was near, she could also hear the sickly drip, drip, drip of his blood falling on the stone floor. She tried to prevent her eyes from tearing up.

“He’ll—” Arielle cut themself, face contorted as if they’d eaten a lemon or were trying not to cry. “He’ll heal on his own. Rush.”

Luna unclenched her fists—she hadn’t even noticed she was clenching them—and nodded. That was probably true.

The huge gape below his chest, she noticed, was smaller now than when they’d arrived.

“Okay.” She said. “Cover your ears!”

Luna grabbed her bag of earth and casted the magic that flowed through her veins. Concentrate it. She remembered. Move it where you want it to go. When it’s where you want it, hold it on.

She pointed her fingers like a gun towards the wall—she didn’t recall it very well, but according to the blueprints they’d gone over, the labyrinth they were gonna take on the way out was somewhere in that direction.

Luna breathed in, hand shaky.

Let it out.

A burst of light, and then a loud explosion. The wall burst open. Lali coughed behind her, and the dust also made its way into her eyes.

“Let’s go!” She yelled out to Lis and Ari, scrubbing them with the palm of her hand. They took their eyes out of the corridor, looking over to her, and nodded.

Arielle ran towards the hole in the wall to lead the way in front of Lis, who was anxiously looking out to see if they weren’t being followed.

Luna rushed behind Ari. She was the second in their formation. Her job was to help clear the way.

Kaiki had been drifting in and out of consciousness for a while. He felt heavy. The blood on his mouth was dry. It wasn’t as dark as it was supposed to be.

Had Alvaro planned something with fire again? He forced his eyes shut. Please, no. He still wasn’t healed from the—no. Do not think about it.

But... something was wrong. He wasn’t in his cell. His arms were tucked over him. He remembered being left chained to the wall. Kaiki felt himself being moved up and now as if he was riding a bike. Was he moving? Now that he noticed it, his feet were also not touching the ground. Weird. He opened his eyes again.

It took a few seconds for Kaiki’s eyes to process the input they were receiving now.

But when they did, he was knocked out of his breath.

OK so i got a liiiiiiittle complicated with what I had planned so

This Is Me Trying: A Tali Rowen and Lennon Curtis story

TW: Tali's abusive parents, breakdowns, sobbing, insecurities, really angsty, (Lemme know if I missed anything

Tali never knew why her parents didn't love her. They never gave her support, love, care, or sometimes even shelter. No matter what she did, it could never be good enough. They always had to point out every flaw she had.

"I should be used to this." Tali thought. This happened every night: both of her parents screaming at her about how disgusting, ugly, and useless they thought she was, before leaving her alone to go on another trip without her. But no matter how often this happened, she'd never get used to this. She'd never get used to feelings of shame and worthlessness she felt every time she was alone with her parents.

She tried to keep her composure when she called Lennon, after the monsters she called her parents left. She couldn't stop sobbing, she felt sick to her stomach, her whole body throbbed from how hard her parents beat her. Tali didn't know who else to turn to and her boyfriend seemed like the best option.

When Lennon came, he felt like he couldn't get to Tali fast enough. Her tortured sobs echoed every wall of the large, empty house and almost every inch of her was covered in bruises. He swore that every piece of his heart shattered when sobbed out:

"Why am I never good enough for them, Lennon?! Am I always either too fat or too skinny, too dumb or too smart, too disgusting or too pretty, too quiet or too loud!! Nothing I ever do is ever fucking good enough for them!!" He could hear every bit of pain in her voice and it broke him inside.

"You're more than enough, Tali. You're the most intelligent, kindest, loveliest, coolest, funniest person I've ever met. And someday you're going to be the most loved and successful person in the world, while they're fucking alone and miserable and regretting every choice they've ever made!"

"I-I-I want to believe that, Lennon. I really do, but look at me. I look so weak right now: sobbing in the corner of the kitchen and covered in bruises. I think I'll be lucky if I make it to 20 seeing how they treat me." She let out a painful laugh as she tried to make herself feel better.

Lennon didn't know what to say. He just held her as she cried out all of her feelings. They stayed in a comfortable silence as he held her close to his chest. Tali almost felt comforted by his heartbeat, she felt like she wasn't as alone as she thought.

Maybe there was someone who loved her and cared about her. Maybe there was someone who thought she really was good enough.

in all my infinite wisdom did i rlly never post about the fact lali + koda shouldve fought way more about not only koda dying and lali being unable to mourn and move on — but also about the fact that lali was an L2.5 (whatever that meant), suffered for it and koda got to walk around the entire time during me3 with little more than the occasional headache

did i really never think about that. about how koda was funded millions (iirc) to be put back together but also got a fun little bonus while lali’s entire life got defined by that “fun little bonus”, singlehandedly wrecked it and nearly killed her multiple times and koda does everything she can to avoid acknowledging that change because it not only terrifies her but it also represents one more thing that got put into her without her consent?
