Chanyeol POV
He didn't have any motivation to get up. He wanted to simply stay in bed, sulk and complain to himself that he put himself in the situation; there was no going back from any of it. But instead, on a well deserved day off, he was shaken from his dark thoughts with the sound of his phone going off. Chanyeol grunted as he moved his body to lay on his side, facing the bedside drawer next to his bed. He watched as his phone began to light up in the dark room, the only source of light coming from the windows, broadcasting beautiful Seoul within his sight. He could never complain about the view, the tall buildings never seeming to end, the way the horizon broke through the bland identical towers; furthermore proving just how successful he was, living in his own loft in one of the most expensive areas around.
So he grudgingly picked up his phone, his eyes squinting from the brightness. He lets his fingers trace some of the scratches that were on the screen, doing so while he read the multiple messages he was receiving.

(8 New Messages)-
"Fuck, I get it." He opened up his phone lockscreen, bringing him to the plethora of texts.
We need to talk.
I'm kind of freaked out man
Like
what the fuck
Jun is fucking pissed
did you know that?
i don't want to deal with his depressed ass
are u up
r u jacking off
Instead of just replying back, Chanyeol pressed the contact profile and brought his device to his ear. He yawned, stretching out his long limbs on his white bedsheets. This wasn't exactly anything new to him, in fact, he was honestly used to it at this point. Especially when it came to... well, him.
"Dude?"
"What, Sehun."
"Did you read my texts?"
"Do you think I'd be calling you on my day off if I didn't?" He scoffed.
Sehun laughs on his end, making Chanyeol break into a smile as well.
"We have to meet up. Like anywhere. I don't care. But we need to talk about-"
Chanyeol suddenly feels flushed, his heart drops, not wanting to even hear the name.
"No. I don't want to talk about him. I'm done with him."
He bundles a fistful of sheets in his grasp, his teeth already gritting together. The dull reminder of his last encounter with Baekhyun is still evident in his features. Chanyeol could talk about anything else; anyone else. But even so, in the back of his head, he knew that he could never really escape his best friend. Like he was dreading moments earlier, the truth, moreso, he could never go back. He bites his bottom lip, looking up angrily to his ceiling.
Sehun doesn't say anything, his breath coming out in ragged breaths.
Chanyeol's eyebrow raises, frustration building in his chest.
"What the fuck is it?"
"Well you said not to talk about him-"
"Yeah well, it seems like this matter won't be solved if I'm not involved so I don't think I have a fucking choice, huh?"
"It's about Y/N."
Chanyeol sits up abruptly as he grips the phone tighter.
"What about her?"
"Please... not on the phone. I'm too freaked out by him, dude. He could be listening or something."
"Sehun, he's not that fucking smart. Don't give him credit for something he can't even do."
"He might not be that smart, yeah. But he has connections, man. Why don't I just come over?"
And that's how Chanyeol ended up on his day off; sitting in his living room with his black robe on; drinking some coffee as Sehun poured out everything that had occured a couple days prior.
"Baekhyun... you have to stop him, Chanyeol. He changed Y/N. I don't even know how- but dude. She's not answering any of my texts- my calls. She always lets me know how she's doing. This is completely out of character."
Sehun ran his hand through his quiffed up hair, shaking his head slightly as his eyes tore into Chanyeol's. They were bloodshot, dark circles sprinkled underneath them. Sehun was young, just a fucking kid. He shouldn't have to be worrying about someone, he already has enough to deal with; a stressful job, debt, and now another thing to pile on top of that... Chanyeol was afraid he was going to break if he didn't do something.
He sighed to himself as he placed his coffee mug on the glass table in front of his couch. He notices how Sehun's was left untouched, the steam no longer pouring from the rim. He lets his body rest in the cushions, crossing his arms together as his eyebrows furrowed together.
"So you're telling me that Baekhyun killed someone- again. This isn't anything new, Sehun. What do you want me to do about a case that's already been reviewed and written off as a suicide?" His foot taps against the floorboards quickly.
Sehun shrugs, scratching his arm and looking around skittishly.
"I- I don't know. I feel like there's something different about it this time around. Y/N covered for him. She looked off, there was blood on her too."
This piqued his interest. He leaned into the conversation, his hands clasping together.
"She had blood on her? What, so... what are you trying to say? That Y/N killed her?"
The younger one licked his lips, diverting his attention to his abandoned coffee.
"I don't want to assume-"
Chanyeol grabbed his mug and threw it across the living room, the sound of it crashing against the wall echoing in the empty loft. Sehun squirmed in his seat, wincing as Chanyeol walked up to him and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. He turns his head to the side as his lips curl up, a quiet sob escaping from his throat. Chanyeol shook him, tightening his firm grasp on the other's shirt, making him look directly at him.
His own nose was flaring, his teeth grinding against another, the only emotion he felt was complete, and utter desperation. He needed to know what this could actually be about; if it was true, and God, he really hoped that it wouldn't be, so he could possibly save you. He wished someone could have saved him when he got interloped with Baekhyun.
"No games, Sehun. I'm being fucking serious. If you think that she was capable of doing that- you need to fucking tell me."
His words came out like bullets, firing each and every single one into Sehun's head. When he still doesn't say anything, Chanyeol yells at him, spit flying in multiple directions. He lets go of him, pushing him back on the chair he was sitting in before. He turns his back to him, bringing his hand to cover his mouth, holding onto his lips as he looks around in anger. Sehun's sobs were getting on his nerves, but not because it was annoying; because Chanyeol knew that they were a submission of guilt, the truth. Sehun knew that you were the one who did the heinous crime, he just didn't want to believe it. Chanyeol was used to the never ending cycle of Baekhyun's killings, fuck, he would be nervous if he wasn't calling him in the middle of the night to help him dispose of a body. But Sehun wasn't like him, he wasn't able to confront the truth like Chanyeol could. He was too innocent, he couldn't grasp the understanding of someone killing another just because.
"I- I don't want her to get in trouble, Chan. You have to understand-"
He spins around, rushing forward toward Sehun, getting down on his knees and holding the other's legs. The poor kid was a wreck, his lips formed into a pout, tears drenching his cheeks, his nose a shade of red. He tries to relax his features, his voice hitching as he speaks to him slowly.
"If she did this, we can't let her do it again. You have to understand Sehun."
He shook his head, putting his own hands over Chanyeol's, his knuckles a shade of white.
"No, please. She can't go to jail, she's just confused- he's fucking maniuplating her. We just need to kill him-"
Chanyeol lets his head dangle down, a broken chuckle leaving his lips.
Sehun shakes him a little, his frazzled state becoming overwhelmed at this point.
"Chanyeol- we- we can do this. We can get away with it. I've thought about it-"
Chanyeol doesn't bring his head up as he cuts him off.
"We'd be no better than him. Don't you get it?"
A beat.
He looks back up with a heartfelt smile, a single tear falling from his eye.
"In everything, he wins. He will always win."
Sehun gapes at him, his tears falling on Chanyeol's hands. He purses his lips together, shaking his head. He pushes himself off the chair, grabbing his phone that was left on the table, pausing to look down at Chanyeol. He was frozen in place still, his knees scraping across the floor, still staring at the empty space that once held another body.
"If you won't help me kill him, I'll do it myself."
He starts to walk out, freezing as his hand reaches the doorknob. Chanyeol turns his head then, staring at the back of his friend; his brother. His lip trembles as he blinks back more tears, his vision of him becoming blurry.
"Sehun. Please. Don't."
"You know. I always looked up to you. You were always so composed, so... unreachable. I always felt like I was close to you though. You're so admirable, Chan. I think that's why I liked you so much, why I wanted to be a part of your life. But now," He turns back to look at Chanyeol, his eyes red as he hesitates.
"You're nothing to me. I will never be what Baekhyun is to you. And in some, twisted way, you're worse than him. Because I know if I asked Baekhyun; if you, were the one fucking killing innocent women, he would do it without me convincing him. Do you know why? Because that's what friends do. And you're no fucking friend."
Chanyeol lets out a foreign, uncontrolled crack of his voice. He reaches his hand out to Sehun, crawling towards him as he begins to cry.
"Please, you have to understand-"
Sehun opens the door, standing in the doorframe, back once again turned to face Chanyeol.
"You can't even be loyal to something as small as your best friend."
And that hits Chanyeol right in the heart. He pauses his movements, his nose congested, his chest tight. The same words his own father distastefully instilled in him over and over again. It was back; the haunting feeling of being nothing but the shadow of his father. The same man who didn't care for his own family, his friends. He was truly, and utterly, exactly like him.
Everything he worked so hard for, it was all for nothing. He never wanted to be like the man who brought him into this world, but as he watched Sehun's silhouette disappear from his sight, he knew that it was over.
He starts to laugh now, the dreadful noise bouncing off the walls. His body hits the floor, and he brings his knees up to his chest, circling his arms around them. His tall frame shakes as his laughter shakes his entire being.
"Like father, like son." He whispers to himself.
Junmyeons' POV
"Hello?"
Junmyeon sat at his desk, plucking through some documents that were placed in front of him moments prior. He licks his indent finger, thumbing through a flurry of white papers, his eyes skimming the words quickly. He pauses his actions as he hears the recognizable voice on the other end of the line, relaxing in his chair and smiling.
"You okay? I can't talk for long, I'm swamped in a burglary case-"
"I really need to talk to you right now. In private."
He clicks his tongue, looking at the workload he was about to dive into. His fingers drum against the desk, he brings his left arm up to examine his watch. He was expected elsewhere on his lunch break, but the immediate worry in his friend's voice alarmed him.
"How important can it be, Sehun?"
"Too important. Can you meet me or not?"
Junmyeon frowns.
"I was actually planning on meeting Y/N at a cafe nearby the station. You could accompany us if you want?"
Sehun's voice hitched to a different octave, and Junmyeon sits up in his chair, absentmindedly looking off with a concerned expression.
"T-that's fine. It's better actually. Can you maybe go on your break now?"
Junmyeon lowers his voice to a whisper, his eyes flickering outside his office, watching his staff behind their own desks typing away.
"What is this about, Sehun?"
"I'm going to tell the truth."
Junmyeon covers his mouth, feeling both unsure and nervous.
"The truth?"
"I can't say anything else on the phone. Just trust me. You're going to want to hear this."
He doesn't say anything else to Sehun, bringing the phone away from his ear and clicking the end button. He sets his device face down on the desk, pushing himself away from the dilemma he knew was unfolding. His eyes go back to the sight of people working, his lips puckering as his mood soured. He got up from his seat, taking long strides to his window, bringing his hand to close the blinds.
Once the blinds were completely closed, he turned around to face the full length windows on the other side of the room, letting the warmth of the sun absorb into his skin. He sighs as he walks towards them, his eyes watching as cars zoomed by on the street, a couple walking hand in hand together. His lips tighten together to form a stubborn frown, his arms behind his back, hands clasped together. He starts to think about his encounter with Baekhyun. He ponders on him, remembering his scent, the small details of blood underneath his fingernails. He feels his lip twitch as he can almost smell the disgusting stench of death on him; and yet how another human being can simply dismiss it, be almost accustomed to it, could talk so carelessly.
He then remembers seeing you. A small hiccup of his heartbeat pounding against his chest startles him. He almost feels embarrassed, and he coughs to regain his thoughts. You were overflowing with anxiety that night, the strucken nerves you displayed filled to the brim and threatening to topple over. He could never forget that, most importantly since you have never been like that in front of him. You were always able to talk to him with the utmost confidence, and that was something he admired about you. Most of his employees were too nervous to even look him in the eye.
But you?
You got under his skin, interrupted his thoughts. You didn't care for his position of power, in fact you challenged it. He brushed it aside as being proud of you. You were another person who exchanged the same morals as him, the same mindset. You were a person who didn't let any obstacle stand in your way... you stood for what was right. And somehow along the way, he forgot you were his subordinate. That you weren't just someone he was able to chat and get some drinks with. The undeniable feeling that you were different from other women, you were yourself.
And your own self was captured by him.
He didn't know exactly when this exact feeling arose in him. He could probably pinpoint one memory, something that he replayed in his mind when work was beginning to become too much for him. He smiles at the sky, reminiscing.
After a long shift, the two of you decided to go get some drinks.
"I told you I would get them. And here you were, not believing in me. I'm hurt."
You sat next to him at the bar, three shot glasses in front of both of you. You had shoved him with your left arm softly, and Junmyeon could already feel his face warming up from the last shot he gulped down his throat. He shook his head, hissing from the bitter taste of vodka left on his taste buds. He chuckles to himself, raising his hand to the bartender, issuing another round of shots.
You tilted your head to look at him, and Junmyeon cocked his to match. Your cheeks were probably a brighter red than his, your skin glowing. Small lines crinkling next to your eyes appear, and you break out into a large smile.
"What? Not going to say anything to that? Come on, you have to fight back!"
He tossed his hands up, smirking.
"What can I say? You were right. I shouldn't have doubted you."
You nod, giggling to yourself. The small clear shot glasses are placed in front of them, and Junmyeon grabs it without hesitation. You followed suit, spinning your chair so you were facing him fully. You raise the disgusting poison that would fill your bodies up, waiting for him to do so as well. He gave in, shaking his head and closing his eyes. He suddenly feels your hand on his cheek, and that makes his eyes shoot up to meet yours. He freezes in that moment, fully taking in how the wind blew your hair to the right. You were shaking your head as you laughed, your eyes twinkling like the stars in the sky.
But Junmyeon thought they couldn't really compare to them anyways.
His clouded mind doesn't even register what you were saying, so he has to ask you again what you had said.
You blinked at him, not breaking the smile on your face.
"I said, thank you for being in my life. You're the best thing to come out of this job, I finally found someone that makes police work something to get out of bed for. I'm happy I can come in and see you in your office. What makes me even happier is knowing that I'll always be by your side."
He stutters a bit, blinking rapidly, becoming too self aware of his heart beating out of his chest.
"T-true that."
You give him a disgusted look then, bringing the shot to your lips and tilting your head back. A small yelp escapes your lips after you gulp down the liquid, closing your eyes as you shake from side to side.
"Don't ever say that again. You sound like my dad trying to be hip."
"Hey! Don't compare me to your dad. It's gross." He rolls his eyes as he copies you, feeling lightheaded as he slams the cup on the table.
There was an awkward silence for a couple of minutes before he mustered up the confidence to speak again.
"I'm happy too."
You look at him, your eyelids drooping down as you smack your lips together drunkley.
"Huh?"
He bites his tongue, almost doesn't want to finish what he wanted to say. But with the alcohol in his system, he shakes away the alarms ringing in his head and lets the truth flow from his dry lips.
"I mean... I'm happy you're in my life. You're quite possibly the best person I've met. I think you're great, you- you're amazing. I want to be the person you can talk to about anything, I want to be there for you when you feel like everyone is against you. I can be that guy that you can call in the middle of the night when you had a fucking nightmare, I- I don't know. You're different."
Your eyes widen at that, your expression that was onced filled with happiness was replaced with one of curiosity. The way you stared at him made him feel like a creep, and even though you wouldn't be able to notice it through his already red face, a blush sneakily creeped in. He waved his hands off, shaking his head as he laughed it off.
"Nevermind. I'm drunk. You should probably get home."
He grabbed his black jacket that was draped around the chair he sat on, reaching for your hand to usher you out with him. You take it gently, and Junmyeon doesn't miss how you had continued to stare at him, not even when you both stepped into the street and began to walk into the night.
He brings the both of you to a halt when you reach your car. You rubbed your hands over your arms, obviously cold from the chilly night. He raises his eyebrow at you, pursing his lips.
"Are you cold?"
You shake your head as you stumble in place, laughing.
"I'll be fine. I've got thick skin."
He shakes his head as well, taking off his jacket and wrapping it around your shoulders. You look at him as he adjusts it over your small frame, and he smiles as he takes a step back to get a good look at you. He lets out a snort, his teeth fully broadcasted to you. You squirm as you fit your arms into the sleeves, looking down as they fully sink in. Junmyeon laughs at the sight, the way your hands aren't even visible once the garment settles on your body.
"I knew you were small but not that small."
You stick out your tongue, flinging the extra fabric towards him, giggling as he dodges it.
"Well, I guess I should get going."
Junmyeon frowns.
"You're not driving."
Your eyebrows hitch up.
"How am I getting home then?"
He brings his finger up as he reaches in his pocket, bringing out his phone. He brings up the familiar number to a cab service he could almost memorize at this point; too used to calling them when he got too drunk himself.
With a quick explanation to where they were at, he slips it back into his slack's pocket. He then fishes out his wallet while you stare at him, still flinging the ends of the sleeves from side to side. He takes out a couple of bills, then walked towards you and stretched his hand out. You looked down at it, then back up at him.
"I could just call Kyungsoo to pick me up. I'd feel bad about taking your money."
You barely whisper out.
He shakes his head, his eyes resting on your lips for a mere second.
"Don't do that. I can take care of you."
He didn't mean for that to come out so sensually, it just felt normal in this moment to speak to you like that. Maybe it was because he was drunk, the way he simply didn't care. You didn't say a word as you took the money from his palm, and maybe Junmyeon imagined it, but your fingers stayed a second longer on his.
You took a step forward, looking up at him. Your features softened, a gentle smile delivered straight to his heart.
"Thank you, Myeonnie."
He could feel the warmth radiating off your body, the way the both of you were so close to one another. So he offers his own smile, nodding his head. He coughs to break the tension he was feeling, and your smile falters then. He turns around, dipping his head to look in both directions of the street. He waits until he spots a pair of headlights tumbling down the narrow road, and he waves his hand in the air.
He watches as you walk next to the vehicle, your hand reaching the handle. You suddenly pause, and Junmyeon looks at your stilled body in confusion. Before he could register anything else, he feels your arms wrap around his waist, pulling him into your embrace. He doesn't know what to do with his hands, just keeps them at bay on either side of his torso. The man in the cab looks at him questiongly, then flashes him a toothy grin. He mimics hugging someone, then points at him to do the same.
"When someone hugs you... you hug 'em back." You slurred against his chest.
Your words vibrated against his skin, and he's worried that you would feel just how fast his heart was pumping. So he rashfully swings his arms around you as well, pulling you in tighter. He rests his head on top of yours, bringing his right hand to comb your hair. His nose catches the scent of lavender, and he closes his eyes, taking it in. He wasn't weird, not at all. Employees can hug. They could definitely enjoy the smell of their shampoo too; especially since it was probably a great brand. Yeah, that was it. He just was entranced by whatever product you used... not you. Couldn't be.
You pulled back from him, your arms disappearing from his waist. He almost wanted to pull you back in, but he knew anything more than that could be worse for him. So he doesn't say anything else when you finally get inside the car. He waves you off, watching your face brighten as you wave excidelty back. He shoves his hands in his pockets, the red tail lights staining his face, morphing the evidence of the reddish hue of a blush.
"I can't wait to see you tomorrow." He breathes out heavily into the night.
He replays you saying the nickname you gave him repeatedly in his head, smiling to himself as he sinks into his car. He remembers thumping his fingers tirelessly against the wheel, his head resting against the carseat. He fell asleep in his vehicle that night. It was the best sleep he had ever gotten in his entire life.
And he had a great fucking mattress at home.
But for some reason the stiff and uncomfortable leather wasn't that bad. He wouldn't mind a bad back if it meant that he was able to see you. Junmyeon-
"Junmyeon?"
He snaps back into reality, his eyes focusing on what was once a bright blue sky, now overcast with gray clouds, leaving the city to be shadowed by the rainy weather. He turns around, making sure to keep his composure; not letting his wandering thoughts display on his face. It was Jisoo, Y/N's assistant. She bowed, flattening down her navy blue skirt.
"Your phone has been going off, sir. Y/N left me a message to let you know she was trying to get in touch with you."
He nodded, then waved her off. She closes the door behind her, and Junmyeon rushes over to his desk, hurriedly picking up his phone. He opens up his text message inbox and clicks over your contact.
hey, sehun let me know he's coming. did you know that?
he also said we'd be meeting sooner than we planned. 2:30?
see you soon, :)
He sighs, letting his fingers roam through his hair. He brings his watch up again, 2:00.
"Fuck you, Sehun."
-
Junmyeon let everyone know that he'd most likely be back later, and to his approval, no one fought him on it. As he drove to the cafe, he thought about how you would have angrily combated him, probably stomping your feet as you whined about him being behind on his work. He missed having you in the office; and that was the main reason he asked you to meet him today. Sure, the station was well run on his watch, but he needed the stability for himself back. Which mainly came from you; keeping him on his toes and breathing down his back 24/7.
He wouldn't lie to himself. He was nervous texting you. The two of you hadn't spoken that much, especially when he had issued for you to go on an extended leave. Sure, he had seen you at the crime scene and chatted, but there was an obvious piece of shit glued right by your side. It didn't feel the same.
You didn't feel the same.
He parked his car, running over his appearance in the rearview mirror. He looked beat, but that was mostly because he hadn't been sleeping well. He hated to admit it, but most of his nights consisted of thinking about Baekhyun. The chilling looks he gave him... the way he spoke to him like he was beneath him. Obviously, it didn't faze him in the slightest, he was used to seeing deadbeat criminals on an everyday basis. Not that he was a criminal, but, the aura he radiated was one of them, most precisely. The man was off.
He wasn't like anyone he met before.
But there was something that Junmyeon recognized.
He could recognize it so well. It was like reading a book, the way Baekhyun was able to cover his emotions so delicately, so routinely. He did it himself. The mask of mystery was something he prided himself in, especially when it came to his own feelings towards you. He was able to contain his anger, fester it inside of him and let it diminish whenever he commanded it to. Except when it came to Baekhyun.
"Get him out of your head." He sternly told himself.
He was there to see you. Not Baekhyun.
There wasn't any reason for him to think about your... boyfriend. Which- that was still getting some used to on Junmyeon's part. He didn't understand it, and couldn't accept it. The whole arrangement seemed too forced, even seemed too perfect. Two people who had the unfortunate burden of their significant others passing away. What a tragic way to tell people how you met.
He stepped out of his car, locking it behind him as he ventured towards the cafe he had recommended. He pulled the collar of his jacket out, the same jacket that he adorned on you the night you both had gotten drinks. Junmyeon turned the corner, his Hermès black loafers clacking against the pavement. His sight lands on the back of his friend; Sehun.
He stood outside the cafe, looking down at his phone. Junmyeon covers both sides of his mouth with his hands, yelling out his name. The younger man perks his head up, looking in the direction of his name being called. He immediately lets his shoulders drop, Junmyeon taking into account that his stress levels must be high. Once he's at arm's length, he pulls him into a tight hug. Sehun grabs onto him tightly, and Junmyeon has to question again just what this could be about.
They pull apart, and he notices that his friend's eyes are puffy.
"Are you okay? You look like you've been crying."
Sehun looks away, patting his eyes with his hands. His chuckle sounds strained,
"Yeah, yeah. Don't need to point it out."
Junmyeon puts his hand on his shoulder, rubbing small circles into it. He feels tense.
"It's okay. I'm here. We can talk about whatever you need to get off your chest, okay?"
Sehun looks at him, his eyes showing desperation.
"Once Y/N gets here. That's when I'll feel okay."
This raises flags in Junmyeon's head.
"Is she okay? What the fuck do you mean by that?"
Sehun seems struck with confusion, then he widens his eyes and shakes his head.
"N-No! I didn't mean anything was wrong with her. She's fine. She's alive."
"Why the hell would she not be?" He spits back.
The raven haired boy starts to speak, but a plop of rain suddenly drifts down from the sky, hitting him on the forehead. He looks up, and just like he flipped a switch, a downpour of rain spills down on them. They both start to cover their heads with their hands, and Junmyeon has to push their wet bodies inside the shop. He lets a breath of relief out as the small cafe warms up his bones. He eyes Sehun carefully, following behind him as he picks out a table in the back corner. They take a seat, being immediately approached by a waiter.
"I'll take an Americano," Junmyeon smiles at the young teen before he brings his attention to Sehun, "He'll take a black coffee-"
"N-no. Do you have anything sweet? Like uh... do you have boba?"
The waitress laughs nervously.
"We're a coffee shop. I can get you a Mocha. They're pretty sweet to begin with-"
Sehun nods, bringing his hand up to wave her off.
"Yeah. That. Whatever."
She gives him a disappointed frown as she walks off. Junmyeon scrunches his eyebrows together and extends his hands out in an 'What the fuck was that?' manner.
Sehun looks frantic, his words coming out so fast that Junmyeon has to ask him to slow down.
"Listen- I'm just really freaked right now, okay? I really have to be honest with how I'm feeling about some things and you're the person I know will fix them."
"Well that really puts more on my plate. I really want to know what you're talking about though. How about you stop running around in circles and just spit it out?"
The other takes a deep breath, but before he could let loose what was bothering him, his eyes face towards the cafe entrance. Junmyeon continues to stare at him, his mouth left open with his question still dangling in the air. Sehun starts to fumble on his words, his fingers tapping anxiously on the table, and that was when Junmyeon took it as his sign to turn around. But before he could, Sehun grabbed his hand and yanked him back.
"Don't. Look." He says dangerously low.
"Junmyeon!"
He smiles suddenly without thinking, your voice immediately calming his anxious thoughts. He watches as Sehun's face pales, and his hold on his hand is let go. Junmyeon finally turns around to wave at you, a smile smeared on his face- but the sudden excitement to see you is shadowed by the person with his hand around your waist.
"Jun! Good to see you again!"
Baekhyun smiles devilishly at Junmyeon as he stops the both of them in front of the table. He wore a black baggy long sleeved shirt, joined with light washed denim pants. A gold chain dangled from his neck, bright against his pale collarbones. He pushed his Ray Bans out of his eyes, pushing back his shabby dyed white hair. He looks at Sehun, cocking his head to the side and feigning fake astonishment as he points at the troubled man.
"Sehun! It's been so long since I've seen you. Y/N here said you wanted to talk about something important. And, well, since I'm her boyfriend and such a close friend with you- I knew that I had to come with. Do you mind if you sit next to Junmyeon? I just like to be next to her."
Baekhyun's eyes seemingly pierce through Sehun's shocked demeanor, his jaw left unhinged as the question lingers amongst them. When nothing is said, Junmyeon watches as Baekhyun tilts his head up quickly and uses his eyes to look at the empty seat next to himself. It was almost comical watching Sehun rush out of his chair and accompany Junmyeon on his side of the table.
You... well you looked like yourself. From what Sehun had framed earlier, Junmyeon was thinking the absolute worst. Maybe you got into an accident, or you tripped and broke a bone. But here you were; bare faced, flushed cheeks and twinkling eyes. You looked fine.
He watches as Baekhyun pulls out the seat for you, kissing your head as you smile back at him. He adjusts himself on the chair, bringing his hands onto the table rather loudly, the impact of his interlaced fingers thudding against it. He looks between Sehun and himself before he squints and lets a chuckle out.
"I think I know what this is about." He says matter-of-factly.
You don't say a word, Junmyeon notes. You instead look down at your lap, your lips still formed into a smile. In return for Baekhyun announcing his educated guess, Junmyeon leans in his chair and tilts back so the two back pegs are only on the floor. He brings a finger to his mouth and speaks diligently.
"I was only aware that Y/N would be coming. She never mentioned you coming, Baekhyun."
He watches as Baekhyun's expression doesn't falter, simply adjusts to the tone that Junmyeon laced with venom. He shifts his body to face him, using his right arm to drape around your shoulders, squeezing it. You're wearing a shirt that was unfamiliar to him, it was too baggy on your frame. He guessed it belonged to the unnerving cunt that sat across from him.
"Well like I stated before, Jun. I'm close friends with Oh Sehun. Right?" Baekhyun looks at Sehun, and the boy nods, not looking back at him. Junmyeon studies his body language; it was like he was a cornered animal, unable to escape. And Baekhyun was the hungry predator ready to pounce on him.
Junmyeon nods at this.
"Okay. So what are we here to talk about Sehun?" He places his hand on Sehun's shoulder, taken back when the other jumps a little.
"I- I. I actually forgot."
You reach forward across the table, your palm open in front of Sehun.
"Sehun, you could tell us anything. I'm here for you. You know that."
Sehun hesitatingly brings his own hand on the table, his fingers inches from yours, but he suddenly pulls back, closing it into a fist.
"I know, Y/N." He says weakly.
You look at Junmyeon pleadingly, so he rests his chair back normally on the ground. He starts to pat Sehun's back, then rubs it gently.
"She's right. You could tell us what's on your mind. You did say it was important."
He looks up, only to stare directly at Baekhyun. The two of them don't exchange any words- but Junmyeon takes into account how your boyfriend licks his lips and starts to smile.
What the fuck is happening? And why can't Sehun talk about what is obviously bothering him?
"I think you're nervous to talk about this in front of someone who wasn't invited," Junmyeon states blankly, and you give him a sad look before he continues, "But regardless. He's here, and he said that you're close as well. You agreed to it. Are you lying?"
Sehun shakes his head quickly. Junmyeon knows he's lying. But he doesn't show the discernment that he's feeling inside, and can't give Baekhyun any satisfaction that he's slipping up in his own emotions. They already had one of them crumbling right in front of their eyes. Before Sehun could say anything else, Baekhyun takes the lead.
"I know what it is."
You look at him confused.
"You do, Baek?"
Junmyeon sneers at that. But as much as that bothered him, his interest was settled on what Baekhyun would say next. He watched as Baekhyun nodded very surely, tapping his fingers to the rhythm of the song that was playing in the cafe.
"Sehun has been having suicidal thoughts. I would know. He called me and told me about it."
And for once, Junmyeon was stunned. He was not expecting Baekhyun to say that, but even moreso, it seemed like Sehun didn't either. He gapes, spreading his hands out on the table, looking in a flurry between the three people seated with him at the table. The police officer watches as a bead of sweat travels down the side of his forehead, his lips beginning to tremble.
Baekhyun clears his throat, then leaned back into his chair, his arms folding behind his neck.
"Yeah. He told me he was contemplating suicide. He was too nervous to talk about it since he's never had those emotions before, but I get it. It's not easy to talk about wanting to slice your wrists when so many people have died recently," He eyes the paper menu on the right side of him, picking it up gingerly,
"But I insisted that he talk about it. Therapists are too expensive these days. I let him know that I'm his friend. He could trust me, you know? But he wanted to see you guys today so... I guess he built up enough confidence to say the truth. Right, Sehun? The truth?"
No one says anything. They stay silent until the waitress delivers the men's drinks, then quickly draws down your order and Baekhyun's. Junmyeon studies him, how he smiled at the young girl; how he was able to say such obscene things and happily order his coffee like normal. He couldn't understand him, couldn't dissect him at all. He was stronger than he looked but Junmyeon knew that he could crack him.
It wasn't like he didn't believe what he said, but if Sehun was feeling like that, truly, he knew that he could talk to his friend in private. This wasn't something that the younger would do, not at all. There had to be something else that was itching his brain, but he was obviously too scared to speak about it in front of Baekhyun.
He picks up his Americano, taking a small sip.
"How do you know Sehun, Baekhyun?"
You speak this time, which surprised Junmyeon.
"Baekhyun told me that they go way back. They used to do business together."
Junmyeon looks at Sehun, forming a tight knit line.
"Is that so?"
"We might have hung out a couple times." He mumbles out before he drinks his mocha.
He returned his sight to Baekhyun, who shrugged as his smile got wider.
"What can I say? I'm a people person. Everyone likes me."
"Even Chanyeol?"
Baekhyun's eyes dim. He leans into the table, the smile vanishing,
"Even Chanyeol, yes."
Junmyeon starts to smile this time.
"You know it's funny. Chanyeol just got into a fight a couple weeks back. Did you know about that? Looks pretty awful if I say so myself."
You look at your boyfriend in a dazed state, obviously not following the tension that was brewing.
"You didn't say anything about that. But Jun," You purse your lips together, "What does that have to do with anything? We're here for Sehun."
He looks off to the interior decorating the cafe, little potted plants hanging from the ceiling, strings of lights glowing brightly against the tan walls.
"Just making small talk. You don't have to get defensive, Y/N."
You push your tongue into the side of your cheek, looking back down at your lap.
"I'm not getting defensive. I'm just saying if Sehun is feeling... suicidal, we should be conversating about that. Not about how the Deputy got into a fucking fight."
"Well it's pretty fucking obvious that Sehun doesn't want to talk about it. Come on, Y/N. You know how to detect body language just as well as I do. It's because of him."
He jabs his finger toward Baekhyun. The accused man flutters his eyelashes bashfully, resting his chin on both of his hands.
"Me? What did I do?" He says tauntingly.
Junmyeon flared his nostrils, the familiar heat rising in his chest like the night he flung your underwear around his face. He wanted to slam him against the wall, yell in his face and realize that he was no match against Junmyeon's strength. He settles on slamming his fists on the table, spilling his drink, the hot liquid traveling on his skin. It burned, but it didn't compare to the fire that was ignited inside him now.
"You know exactly what I'm getting at here, Byun. You scare Sehun fucking shitless, and for whatever reason he can't even maintain eye contact with you. You're nothing but a weak joke. You cascade this macho persona, but I see right through it. You're nothing but an empty shell that draws on masks and puts it on to fit every single situation. I don't fucking like you."
He lets out an aggravated tsk as he finishes, looking down at the table. He knew he showed too much to Baekhyun, gave him too much information just by playing into his game. He knew now that he was easily triggered by his obliviousness. He wanted to slap himself in the face.
"Junmyeon. Can I talk to you outside?"
He looks up to meet your distressed state, and he nods in a flash, standing up and following you outside the cafe. Before you got up, you whispered something in Baekhyun's ear that made his facial features twitch. His eyelids drooped downwards, but he regained his once upbeat personality and laid a kiss on your cheek. He could feel Baekhyun's stare burning holes in the back of his head, but at this moment, Junmyeon didn't care.
He listened to the small chime of the bell go off as the door closed behind them, then turned to face you. The rain beat down on your head, your once dry hair dampened by the merciless weather. He has to break the silence, you hadn't spoken a single word and continued your stare directly into his soul.
"What? What do you want from me?" He spats out.
Your bottom lip juts out, your eyes furiously blinking away the rain.
"Why are you acting like this?"
He stands still, letting the rain blur his vision of you. He forms his hands into fists.
"Like what? Like a normal human being? I don't know you anymore, Y/N. You've changed."
You scoff at that, shifting your weight on your right leg. You bring up your hand and shake it angrily. "Me? I'm the same as I've ever been. You're the one who changed," You cross your arms over your chest, "You don't talk to me anymore. You stopped reaching out, you- you fucking made me leave work! You left me alone after Kyungsoo died, and you expect me to be my bubbly happy go-lucky self? Fuck you."
You shove him, and when he doesn't move from the impact of your soft blow, you strike him again on the chest. He doesn't change his position, just looks down at you while you pound your fists against his body, watching as you begin to cry. It broke his heart. Seeing you like this. The worst part for Junmyeon was knowing that he couldn't be the one to fix this for you, there would never be the same connection between the both of you unless Baekhyun was out of the equation.
The most sickening thought to Junmyeon was knowing that you would never leave Baekhyun.
Not for Sehun.
Not for Kyungsoo.
Not even him.
He sighs as he stops your actions in a heartbeat, grabbing your arms mid air. You hiccup as you look back up at him, your eyes filled with tears. Your eyes that stole his heart were nothing but a black hole now, and even if Junmyeon wanted to pull you back out, you wouldn't have accepted his hand. He fights his own sob trying to erupt from his throat, putting on a smile for you. You shake your head, your pink lips forming to say something. But you didn't.
"Are you cold?" He mutters out brokenly.
You scrunch your face up, your cheeks, a beautiful shade of pink. Your eyes shut closer together as you bite your lip to contain your whines, and shake your head.
"I... I've got thick skin."
He licks his lips, looking at the stained ground. He releases his grip on you, letting his arms fall back to his sides. "You should head back inside."
You shake your head more violently now, punching his arms.
"You're supposed to give me your jacket, you fucking prick."
It sounded desperate. Like you were hoping that the connection you had could somehow be fused back together with something as pathetic as a jacket. You continue to hit him, speaking in choked sobs, repeating for him to give you his jacket. But he doesn't listen anymore. He just stares at you, watching how devastatingly broken you were.
"That's enough, Y/N."
"No. You need me just as much as I need you." You snap back.
He shakes his head at you. He grabs the handle of the cafe door, turning his back on you.
"I don't need you at all. Don't bother coming back to work."
You start to scream a string of obscenities at him, but he silences the hurtful spikes you were throwing at him. He let the door close behind him, watching as some of the people inside gave him incredulous looks, the waitress peering outside while covering her mouth. He fashioned the cuffs of his jacket so they didn't look so disheveled, then cleared his throat as he approached the table in the corner.
Baekhyun doesn't say a word, but Junmyeon knows that he's holding back some type of resentment. The man's face distorted into pure anger, his hold on the coffee mug making his knuckles a bright red. Sehun huddled into his seat, not daring to look up at Junmyeon. He sighs at that, lazily looking between the two. He clicks his tongue, bringing his now cold drink up to his lips, gulping it down completely.
Once he finished, he placed it back gently on the table. He pulled out his wallet and pulled a few stray bills, confidently placing it on the table.
"I think that should cover everyone here. Sehun, are you coming?"
Baekhyun stands up, inching towards Junmyeon and stopping until he was only inches away from his face. His head bobs lightly, his tongue tracing his lips before he spoke.
"Sehun and I are going to spend some time together. Is that alright with you?"
Junmyeon is tired at this point. He's had enough of Baekhyun. Of you. So he chuckles darkly, making Baekhyun look at him with a quizzical expression.
"Do whatever the fuck you want. You might want to give Y/N a ride back to her house though. She's completely drenched. You should warm him up, make sure she doesn't catch a cold."
He turns his feet in the direction he came from, but Baekhyun's hand grabs his shoulder.
Junmyeon doesn't bother looking back, just stands in place as he looks out the window.
"I'll fuck her good for you."
And that was enough for him. He had it.
Junmyeon laughed, closing his eyes as he turned around slowly. He ducks his head down, bringing it up slightly so Baekhyun would only see his eyes. He smirked at him, opening his mouth to probably spit out some other lewd details, but Junmyeon doesn't give him the chance. He brings his fist to connect with Baekhyun's jaw, watching as the smaller man topples back on the table, his hands gripping onto the edges of it. Screams begin to echo in the once quiet shop, and Junmyeon can hear people scrambling out of the chairs, the squeaks of shoes running right out the door.
The waitress does nothing but look onto the fight unfold behind the counter, her phone shaking in her grasp as she tries to unlock it. Baekhyun spits on the floor, blood painting the washed out gray flooring. He looks back up, and Junmyeon hesitates as he watches Baekhyun's eyes turn into something almost demonic, his white teeth stained with the ruby color, smiling right at him. It almost felt like he wanted this to happen; but Junmyeon doesn't want to miss the opportunity to beat him to a pulp.
Baekhyun lands a pretty good punch to his chin, making Junmyeon twist his neck to the left. He shakes it off quickly, running back at him and grabbing him by his shirt, pushing him against the wall. He doesn't stop his fist from hitting his face, not giving him any mercy, just enjoying seeing the blood erupt from his mouth. It wasn't until Sehun pulled him off that he let him go. Baekhyun slides down the wall, his hands weakly spread on the floor, the smile on his face never leaving.
He wheezes, and Junmyeon just stares as Sehun restrains his arms behind his back, telling him, "It's okay, It's okay." He's in a delirious state now, looking down at his own shirt, the vermillion stains looking right back up at him. He watches as you somehow rush to Baekhyun's aid, looking at him and screaming. But it's all just static in his head. He pushes Sehun off of him, grunting as he winds his shoulder back. He stumbles as he walks away from the gore fest he created, cracking his knuckles.
"Sir! You cannot leave this premise, I already called the cops!"
The waitress was crying, her phone raised to her ear as she pointed at him. Junmyeon snickers, looking at her frazzled state. He continues to walk towards the door, stopping as he looks back at her, offering her a genuine side smile.
"I am the police. Go get him some napkins. He'll be fine."
He opens the door, looking up at the sky, watching the rain pour down. He smacks his lips together, then without a thought in his head, he takes off his jacket. He looks back inside, Sehun looking back at him with shock, and tosses it on one of the tables.
"Give it to Baekhyun. He needs it more than me."
Baekhyun's POV
"Get in the fucking car, Sehun."
Baekhyun didn't know what was exactly going to transpire today, but it sure as fuck wasn't this. He sits himself in his car, immediately looking at his face in the mirror. His nose was bleeding, one of his eyes was turning completely red- to which Baekhyun scoffed.
He looked down at his hand, the faint color of crimson staining it. Usually this would be fine, but in this scenario he was disgusted. There should never be a moment where he, Baekhyun, would be the one spitting up blood. He listens to the back passanger's door close harshly, and he looks at a spooked Sehun staring back at him. He's stark white, his legs crossed over one another, his body visibly shaking.
He licks his lips as he looks away, gripping the steering wheel.
"Did you know he was going to do that?" He says sourly.
Sehun shook his head, looking outside the window.
"No. I've never seen him like that before."
Baekhyun punches the wheel then, making Sehun audibly gasp. He turned around in a flash, teeth gritting together, aiming his next words towards the young boy.
"I'm going to take Y/N home, and if you-" He jabs his finger in the other's chest, "say a single thing? I'll make sure you regret it. You got me?"
He nods, tears brimming his eyes already. Baekhyun chuckles at that, pulling his hand away from him and sitting back in his seat completely. He clears his throat, blood still spewing from his lips. He grimaces, looking outside his own window this time, watching you walk up to his side with more napkins.
You tap the window, and Baekhyun nimbly pushes down the button to roll it down. You quickly shove the napkins towards his nose, you're forcing out too many words at once, making you stutter uncontrollably.
"I- I did- I can't believe he did that. Are you o-okay?" You take sharp breaths in between each word, like it hurt to inhale.
Baekhyun's heart swells at that, and he rests his hand over yours, stopping your frantic movements. He shakes his head and closes his eyes, trying to remain calm for you. He listens to your ragged breathing, then rests his gaze on yours. He smiles.
"I'll be fine. Let me take you home-"
"No. I- I have to talk to him."
And why did you want to talk to him? Baekhyun wondered. He was only one short circuit away from blowing up, but he reminds himself that it's you, that's he talking to. He couldn't have you thinking he was the controlling boyfriend that he knows he is. Baekhyun would be the composed, innocent man in this situation. And God, it really fucking sucked being good.
"If that's what you think you should do. Go for it." He narrows his eyes, watching as you didn't expect that response. You nod hestitangly, unsure of what to do with the remaining napkins in your hand. He shakes his head softly, taking them from you.
"Make sure you text me when you get home then. I'll come over." He says in a whisper.
You give him a sympathetic smile, "Of course."
You give him a kiss on his cheek, to which Baekhyun makes sure to record in his memories to fond over later. You turn around, but Baekhyun reaches out his window and latches his grasp on your wrist. You look back confused, but he doesn't even need to say it to you now; something that he pleasantly enjoyed.
"I- I love you."
He tilts his head cheekily to the side, letting you go.
"I love you too."
He watched until you were only a speck in his vision, and then he grudgingly turned back around again, latching his fangs into Sehun.
"Get in the front with me."
Sehun shook his head.
"I'm okay back here-"
"Get up here." Baekhyun deadpans.
So there they were, driving in Baekhyun's car, driving aimlessly. He hasn't said anything to the other, just kept quiet as he tapped his finger on the wheel, watching his windshield wipers dispose of the rain on the car. Sehun cleared his throat when they arrived at a red light, and Baekhyun flickered his eyes on him for a second, then continued to stare forward at the road.
"What?" He says in a sardonic tone.
"Where are we going? I actually have some work I have to go over-"
"Really? What is it about?" Baekhyun smirks, hitting the gas pedal.
Sehun fiddles with his hands, "Just some um, you know. Burglary case."
Baekhyun nods, his voice ringing in the silent car.
"Man, I hate people like that. They could be so annoying, huh?"
Sehun forces out a bitter laugh.
"Y-yeah. They're... annoying."
"Tell me Sehun. Because I'm really, really, into what you do for a living. How do you live with yourself when you know you have blood on your hands? Do you think you're better than me?"
Silence.
He turns a street, slowing down his speed in the empty neighborhood. He waits for him to say something, but just like he knew, Sehun didn't dare say a single syllable. He looks at the dim lit houses and apartments as he continues his drive, pointing at some and complimenting the exterior. He stops in front of one, moving his hand towards the Park shift. He faces Sehun now, observing how he stayed completely still, his shoulders hunched over, his face looking completely in his lap. Baekhyun snaps his fingers, making the other jump in his seat.
"You see that house?"
Sehun diverted his attention outside the window. It was an ugly house; seemingly abandoned from the looks of it. It was almost as if it was being held by strings, the paint chipping off the wood, the lawn a complete jungle. The roof was beaten in, some had already caved in, submitting itself over to the undeniable death. He looked back at Baekhyun, his eyebrow raised.
"What about it?"
Baekhyun winced, his eye throbbing in pain. He fixates on Sehun through his migraine.
"It's beautiful."
"Beautiful? I don't see how-"
He slaps his face then, immediately grabbing his cheek to look back at him.
"Isn't it beautiful seeing things struggle to stay alive? No matter how broken they are. They still manage to live. And do you know why us, as people, no matter how battered and bruised we get, we still get up?"
Sehun shook his head in Baekhyun's hand. Baekhyun rolls his eyes, digging his fingernails into his skin. "Because they think they have purpose. And where does purpose come from? It comes from the undeniable feeling that something or someone created you- that some being put you in existence because they believed you had something to grace this fucked up reality."
He lets go of Sehun's face, shoving him against the window. He unbuckles his seatbelt, crawling towards his body and pushing his head on the window. He savors seeing Sehun's breath clouding on the clear glass, his breathing short with each one he took. He locks his fingers in his hair, twisting and pulling it, slamming his face into the glass harder.
"But do you want to know the one thing that people don't know?"
He snickers to himself as he grins.
"I am the person who decides people's purposes. Me."
Sehun pushes him off, saliva dripping down his mouth, his eyes in a crazed state. Baekhyun raises his hands in the air as if he'd been caught, then relaxes as he leans against his seat.
"So, Sehun. Can you answer my question?"
Sehun grips the leather seat, tears staining his cheeks.
"What question?" He lashes out.
"Do you think you're better than me?"
"I- I don't know. Why does this matter, why me?" He spews angrily.
Baekhyun sighs, lazily draping his seatbelt on himself. He resumes his quaint car drive, not answering Sehun's question. He wracked his mind about this for a while; people who knew they were going to die not cooperating with their killer. It never made sense, Baekhyun enjoyed the manipulative mind games he would play with people, much like a kid playing with their food. Deciding which portion of their meal would enter their mouths... which portion would end up unscathed. If you were in the palm of a sadistic killer, would you rather play with him or fight him?
The choice was fairly obvious.
But obviously not.
The gloomy skies turned a shade of purple and black, the moon resurfacing from its slumber. Baekhyun didn't say anything as he parked in front of the apartment building he frequented often. He pushed back the pain that screamed at him, lifting his hand to grab his car keys. Sehun stayed put, glancing up towards the building. When he didn't react, Baekhyun waved his key in the air questiongly at him.
"You're not excited to be here?"
"Why would I be?"
"Because now you won't be alone with me."
Sehun uttered underneath his breath, "I'm not talking to him anymore."
Baekhyun jutted his bottom lip out, masking a look of concern.
"Not best friends with your best friend anymore? Wonder why."
"Like you fucking care."
Baekhyun shook his head, reaching over to the glove box. He opened it up, pulling the sharp object out. He grazed his indent finger over the gray blade, watching how prettily it shined in the darkness. Sehun held his breath, watching Baekhyun admire his toy. Baekhyun smiled brightly, his cheeks warming up.
"I'm offended by that. I care about my friends. And you're my friend."
Something in the air changed when Baekhyun stated that; and he took into account how Sehun's once scared shitless exterior softened. Obviously something happened between him and Chanyeol, it wasn't like he necessarily cared about what it was about, but if it could make this more entertaining for him, he'll use it.
"Get out. If you make a run for it, I'll kill you."
Baekhyun stood behind Sehun as he entered the apartment building, knife embedded in his lower back. An awkward ride in the elevator was fun for Baekhyun, enjoying how Sehun squirmed in discomfort. He felt his phone vibrate in his back pocket, and without his eyes leaving Sehun's back, he pulled it out. He squinted from the bright light coming from his phone, but that soon was replaced with a heartwarming grin.
i made it home. let me know when you're coming over. i'll order take out. :) love you.
He shoved it back into his pocket as the elevator notified them they arrived. He couldn't wait to come back home to you, being able to be overwhelmed with your scent, your body, your touch. He almost stumbled in his step while thinking about it, but he covered it up by pushing Sehun ahead of him, towards Chanyeol's door.
He brushed some hair out of his eyes, gazing at Sehun's closed fist knocking on the door of his life-long friend. He felt his heart race faster as Chanyeol opened the door in shock, wearing only a robe, his hair in complete disarray. Baekhyun brought his free hand up, waving cutely in his direction.
"We haven't had a guy's night in a while."
Chanyeol had let them in, stubbornly, but still- let them in. Which was his biggest mistake in his life so far. Baekhyun had grabbed Sehun by his collar and led him towards the couch. He threw him down roughly, flipping the knife in his hand in the air before jokingly pretending to stab him.
"Quit it, Baek." Chanyeol shouted at him, taking his place on a chair beside the glass table.
Baekhyun giggled to himself, flashing the knife at Chanyeol. He grunted as he pushed the tip of the blade away, giving a snarling look. Crossing his arms, Chanyeol pierced his gaze at Sehun, the younger childishly looking away. He snorted at that, then watched as Baekhyun sat in his own chair.
Chanyeol quipped, "What the fuck happened to you? You almost look as bad as me."
"Your friend. Junmyeon." Baekhyun grunted out.
Chanyeol widens his eyes. Then erupts in boisterous laughter, hand clapping included. The two men aren't amused by it in the slightest, and after a couple more seconds of his annoying noise, he dwindles down, fully taking in the tension filled air. He licks his lips and brings his attention back to Baekhyun, but more importantly the blade that was adorned in his grip.
"What's the knife for, huh?" Chanyeol barks at him. He was nervous, Baekhyun could tell.
So he shimmies into his seat, ready to watch the show unfold in front of his very eyes; perfectly orchestrated by him. "I thought we'd play a game."
Sehun sits up in his seat, broadcasting for the first time a sense of confidence.
"A game?"
Baekhyun nods sweetly.
"A game. Rules are that you have to play. If you don't- well you know." He says in a singsong voice.
He watches Chanyeol stretch out his arms, sighing. He flashes a grim look towards Sehun.
"Thought you didn't want to see me anymore. Why'd you come?"
"Yeah, like I volunteered to be held at knife point by Baekhyun. I didn't want to come here."
Baekhyun stifles back laughter, crossing his legs together as he listens to the argument stirring up. He looked down at his knife; the same knife he used on Mina. If he squinted hard enough, he could still see the faint blood on the pristine gift Chanyeol gave him.
"Well I don't know, this could be an ambush for all I know. You and your stupid fucking choices that you make. You never learn, do you?" Chanyeol's veins popped out of his neck as he spoke to Sehun.
Sehun rolled his eyes, looking at Baekhyun.
"What do we have to do?"
"What, so you're ignoring me now? Prick." Chanyeol spits.
Baekhyun stands, interjecting as he raises his hands in the air.
"Now now. Let's not get too excited to play the game. Let me explain the rules, okay guys?"
They don't say anything so Baekhyun takes it that they're interested. He loved his friends.
"So, the whole premise is kind of silly," He chuckles as he walks over to the couch, wrapping his arm around Sehun's shoulders, "Basically, the two of you spill your guts about every horrible thing you've done for me. The one who takes responsibility wins. Pretty easy, right?"
Sehun puckers his lips and begins to open his mouth, but Baekhyun shushes him, grazing the knife on his cheek. "I'm not finished."
"The one who's too much of a self centered cunt, dies. By who? You're wondering? Well," He stands up, dragging the knife on the glass table, making the men in the room groan from the noise, "By the one who wins. I think it's pretty fair."
Chanyeol gives him the most stomach-turning frown, his lips trembling in distraught.
"No fucking way."
Baekhyun walks behind Chanyeol's chair, his hand bringing the knife to his neck. He inches towards the other's ear, his lips grazing his skin ever so slightly.
"Aren't we friends, Channie? Best friends, right?"
His friend's hand grips the chair's arm furiously, "Us being friends doesn't have anything to do with this, Baekhyun."
"Oh, but I think it does. You know why it does, Chanyeol? Because I have something on you. And if I tell the entire world what Park Chanyeol did- well, that wouldn't end well for you, right? But I'm your friend, so I'll give you a chance to not ruin your perfect cookie cutter reputation."
He slices Chanyeol's skin lightly, looking down to see the small beads of blood sprout from his neck. He immediately hushes his deep rooted snarls, his body settling into the situation that was being unfolded. Sehun gapes, but he slowly closes his own mouth, eyebrows furrowed together as he leans out of his seat.
Baekhyun smiles. "Okay then. Who wants to be honest?"
He sits back down in his chair. Of course, he had something up his sleeve. He slipped his phone out of his pocket, cleverly hiding it from view underneath his thigh. He rummaged through his miscellaneous apps, until he finally clicked on Voice Memos. And finally, the game would actually begin.
Sehun starts it off, which was little to no surprise to Baekhyun. He was the weaker one out of all of them after all.
"I- I disposed of the body of Baekhyun's girlfriend. I didn't like doing it though. I- I still have nightmares about it."
Baekhyun gives a light hearted clap, to which Sehun glares. He looks towards Chanyeol, and Baekhyun copies. He looks tired, his arms hanging off the arms of the chair, his eyes fixated on the ground.
"Chanyeol? What about you? What have you done?" Baekhyun questions.
Chanyeol licks his lips, pulled out of the trance he put himself in.
"I... I haven't done anything."
God, was he an idiot. He knew his friend was prideful, but did he really have to be when it came to his own life? He sighs, shaking his head.
"No... I don't think that's right. Come on, spill your guts. We don't judge here!"
His cheerfulness does nothing to the bland environment. Chanyeol covers his face with both of his hands, something of a sob tumbling from his throat. Baekhyun looks at Sehun, giving him a look that reads, "Can you believe this guy?"
"I didn't do anything. I haven't." Chanyeol repeats.
Sehun stands up, anger fusing into his features.
"I should have known you wouldn't fess up to anything. You're just like your fucking dad."
Baekhyun gasps, placing his hands over his mouth. He tries to fight off the incoming laughter from his chest, but it spills over maniacally. Of course, he knew Chanyeol's trouble with his own father, I mean he issued him to kill him for Christ's sake. But compared to Baekhyun, Chanyeol's sanity when it came to his dad was utterly gone. He knew not to talk about it; only when it mattered, when it was a reminder. Obviously Sehun didn't know about this. So Baekhyun continued his fit of giggles, his eyes latching onto Chanyeol's furious state.
"You know, I let it go earlier. I mean, you didn't even give me the chance to say anything before you left, you fucking asshole. But you- you don't know anything about my fucking father. He was a living fucking nightmare, he cheated, he lied, he hit me. I am nothing, like him," Chanyeol kicks his chair back, his body moving faster than he could have been thinking, stopping as he stands in Sehun's face, "So shut the fuck up if you know what's good for you."
Sehun clenches his fists, mustering up a confident face, but failing horribly.
"I killed Kyungsoo. I am the person who fucking helped. I disposed of a body. Come on, Chanyeol. Fucking take ownership. Don't fucking die because your pride!"
With a gurgled yell, Chanyeol punches Sehun in the face, his own face bright red with anger. Sehun fights back, grabbing Chanyeol by his shoulders and shoving him into the glass table, shards gliding on the hardwood floor, pieces stopping at Baekhyun's shoes. Baekhyun's adrenaline shoots up, his already widened eyes stretching out even more, his smile so big it's beginning to hurt. He picks up a shard of glass, flipping it around in his hand as he watches Sehun plummeting his fist into Chanyeol's face.
He stands up, walking behind Sehun and seeing his friend's face go in and out of consciousness. His lip is busted, blood is sprayed on his chin and exposed chest, his eyes are in a dazed, frenzied state. Sehun freezes his movements, taking a deep breath in before he pulls Chanyeol up, looking him straight in the eyes.
"Chanyeol. Please, say something."
He spits blood on the younger's face, yet Sehun stays stoic. He whispers this time,
"Choose me. Choose to live."
Baekhyun huffs annoyed, giving Sehun's ribs a hard kick, watching him cripple up and fall on the ground. He stands over Chanyeol now, both of his feet on either side of him, crouches down and smacks his lips together.
"What did you end up doing yourself, huh, Yeol?" He brushes some of Chanyeol's dark locks off his forehead, gagging as he touches some of the blood that was painted into his skin.
Chanyeol's voice is brittle as he speaks, "P-please. Help."
The words came out weakly, each syllable too painful for him to escape from his mouth. Baekhyun ponders for a moment, then nods his head. He picks up his battered friend, sitting him up and dragging him so he leans on the chair he had kicked back moments prior. He slaps him a little, trying to keep him conscious. When he finally lets up and keeps his eyes open, Baekhyun waves the knife in his face gleefully.
"You want me to help you, right?"
Chanyeol nods slowly, his eyes crossing repeatedly, trying to focus on him. Baekhyun let's a small, "uh-huh," out, then walked towards Sehun. He repeats his action, dragging his body and stopping to drop him right in front of Chanyeol's feet. He digs his foot into Sehun's neck, putting pressure steadily, watching him struggle to push him off. Baekhyun looks at Chanyeol with a straight face, eyes dark.
"What do you want me to do, Chanyeol?"
Chanyeol, becoming more and more aware of what's happening, gurgles on his own blood, sputtering out drops of the red on Sehun's face. He shakes his hands, getting on his knees and trying to remove Baekhyun's foot from the other's throat. Baekhyun sneers at that, disappointment settling into his features. He keeps his foot on the other's throat and takes a step in Chanyeol's direction, bringing the knife to the side of his neck.
"You can't save him. But you want to know what you can do?" Baekhyun lashes out in anger.
Chanyeol shakes, looking up defeated.
"W-what?" He says brokenly.
Baekhyun removes the knife from his throat, then points his finger and motions for Chanyeol to get on top of Sehun. It takes him a moment to register what he's asking, but nonetheless, he does it. And Baekhyun feels almost a little bit of pity for him; but it's quickly erased when he hears Sehun wheeze against his shoe. He takes his foot off of him, crouching behind Chanyeol, placing his hands on his shoulders, leaning his head against the crook of his neck as he peered down at Sehun.
"What do you want to say, Sehun?" Baekhyun asks.
There's fear in his eyes, and the all knowing feeling that his last words were coming soon. He knew the look all too well, loved seeing it. But in this moment, it felt different. Rather than the impending speech of love being tarnished, a future of marriage memorized and said endless amounts of times to potential lovers, this was Sehun. Sehun, who played the game right, Sehun who didn't let pride wash over him. It made Baekhyun feel... like a God. He was the one who wrote the script, who decided to change the rules if it didn't seem fit to his liking, he was- He Is- God.
"The answer- to your question." Sehun says shakily.
Baekhyun shapes his mouth into an, "O '' shape, nodding his head and biting his lip eagerly.
"Yes? And what is that?"
Sehun looks directly at Chanyeol as he speaks,
"I'm not better than you."
Baekhyun hears Chanyeol's voice hitch, his body trembling. Sehun continues.
"You win. You'll always win, Baekhyun."
"Exactly. Now, Chanyeol," Baekhyun slithers his hand down to Chanyeol's, placing the knife in his hand, "I'm going to give you something that you've always wanted."
Chanyeol replies in a monotone voice, "Which is?"
"To kill and rid of the obstacle in your life. I won't do it for you this time. Think of it as a gift."
He looks as Chanyeol slowly but surely wraps each finger around the hilt of the knife, until it is in his grasp most surely. Baekhyun gingerly brings his hand on Chanyeol's arm, pushing it towards Sehun's chest. He lets go once the blade is inches from Sehun's own flesh, pausing to watch what his friend would do next.
Sehun sobs, "We can still do it. We can still kill him, Chanyeol."
"Is that right, Chanyeol? You can still kill me? Well look, I'm right here. Do it." Baekhyun lets the last words drip with curiosity.
Chanyeol doesn't make any movements. He stays on top of Sehun, knife remaining inches from his chest. His troubled breathing is the only sound in the apartment, only until he speaks with the utmost confidence.
"I... I can be loyal to something as small as a best friend, Sehun."
Sehun's eyes glimmered with hope then, Baekhyun almost faltering in his own confidence.
"Yes- Yes, Chanyeol! I knew you would choose me-"
And Chanyeol followed his words as he plummeted the knife into his friend.
"Chan...chanyeol?"
Sehun's mouth was left agape as he looked down shakily at the knife sticking out of his chest, Chanyeol's body hunched over Sehun's in a ghostly manner. Baekhyun let out a nervous chuckle, putting a hand over his heart, closing his eyes in relief. He doubted- for a second, that Chanyeol would be persuaded by the meaningless words Sehun spouted out. But Baekhyun knew.
"I knew you would choose me." Baekhyun says sarcastically, mimicking Sehun.
Chanyeol says nothing as he takes the knife out of Sehun, throwing it away from his sight. He picked up the limp body now, his hand moving behind Sehun's head, pushing it up, shaking it.
"Sehun? Sehun, please. I- I didn't do it. I didn't-"
A string of sobs continued after, and Baekhyun walked quietly to retrieve his weapon, cleaning off the blood with his already ruined shirt. He made his way back to Chanyeol, who was attempting to revive Sehun's dead body, chest heaving as snot shot from his nose, his tears cascading on the corpse's face. Baekhyun snaps his finger, earning a devastated and desperate look from Chanyeol.
"And where's my thank you for saving your ass?" Baekhyun crossed his arms together.
Chanyeol blinked, his face morphing into one of shock.
"Thank You? What the fuck do I have to thank you for? You killed my-"
Baekhyun stamps his foot as he yells,
"You! You killed him, Chanyeol. Not me. Maybe I should have let Sehun kill you; you still can't play the game fucking right. Piece of shit. You can't even say thank you for the gift I gave you, some fucking stability in your life, jeez. Also," He snakes out his phone from his pocket, waving it in the air, then clicking the button to end the voice memo, "I have it all recorded. I'll just keep it as a reminder for you."
Chanyeol grips Sehun's body closer to his chest. His left eye was swollen shut now, the blood dried on his face and chest. Baekhyun didn't think Chanyeol looked any better than right now. So he sticks his phone back in his back pocket, slipping the knife in the other. He walks over to the door, but Chanyeol stops him with one last pleading question.
"Baekhyun. Why... why didn't you kill me?"
Baekhyun stills. He looks over his shoulder, smiling.
"Because. You're my friend."
"Goodbye, Chanyeol."
And as he closed the door behind him, he listened to Chanyeol unleash a blood curdling scream. He relished in it, humming a tune to himself as he walked down the hallway. He brought his phone out as he entered the elevator. He typed happily, his thoughts finally only becoming about you.
on my way back. i missed you so much. i'm so happy. :)

PART 1
In the lobby or on your floor – those were the two locations where you’d been bumping into Baekhyun most often. Which wasn’t that strange, considering that you were neighbors. But it somehow always caught you off guard and left you flustered.
Just like the first time.
It happened almost a year ago when you were waiting for the elevator on the first floor of your building with your best friend Yuki, who came early to help you with preparations. A guy in a loose white dress shirt and jeans stepped into the elevator with you, politely greeting you before pressing his floor number.
‘Oh, you live on the 13th as well? So, you and our Y/N are neighbors!’ Yuki exclaimed.
‘Nice to meet you,’ you muttered and bowed, shy from the sudden introduction. He reciprocated, chocolate hair falling into his eyes charmingly.
‘You should come to her housewarming party! It’s in a couple hours,’ Yuki chimed in again. ‘You don’t need to bring anything, it’s just a small thing with a couple friends and neighbors. We’re making sure Y/N-ie settles in nicely here. So please come, we have tons of food!’
If anyone could ever say no to your friend… Well, you had never met such a person. You guessed that Baekhyun was simply too stunned by her enthusiasm, so he said he’d swing by for sure. In a way, you were thankful that she’d asked him – you’d have never had the guts to invite someone like that; especially not anyone as good-looking and cool as Baekhyun.
You regretted letting your bestie invite him the following evening when your party was in full swing for several hours. Most of the food was devoured, so now you were all drinking, crunching on snacks, and conversing; or trying to while jumping from one topic to another.
‘I wish we could gather more often. We all like to hang out with you, you know?’
As always, Yuki nagged at you for being too ‘stay-at-home’ of a friend.
‘I like to hang out too. But home is home. You know parties aren’t really my… favorite pastime.’
‘What is your favorite pastime, lying in bed cuddling your blanket?’ Chanyeol joked insensitively.
He should’ve known better since you were the most troubled in your group of friends regarding relationships. It was super tough for you to find a match, even when you made an effort to get out of the house and meet new people, mostly because of your history of failed relationships where your partners gained interest in someone else. It seemed like you were too plain to hold someone’s attention for long. So, you’d been ‘that single friend’ for several lonely years now. And at this time, you were actually in the very beginning of a new, promising relationship. You were still pretty insecure about it; thus, Yeol’s comment really did make you flinch. He was drunk, so that was understandable, but you still sulked at his words, mainly because they were true.
‘Hey, it doesn’t have to be a blanket.’ You frowned, pressing the straw to your lips in frustration.
‘I’m kinda sad that guy you’ve been talking to couldn’t come,’ Yuki interjected. ‘I wanted to find out what he’s like.’
‘Minho had work-related travel, so he’s resting up.’ You shrugged, sipping your drink timidly.
‘I’m sure the guy made this excuse just to avoid meeting your friends. How long have you known him for, like, two days?’ Chanyeol interjected.
‘It’s been a few weeks, actually,’ you corrected, and Hoseok, Yuki’s boyfriend, muttered a reproaching ‘hyung’ in his direction.
‘Gosh, you’re really this stupid while drunk,’ Yuki shook her head disapprovingly at your friend, who simply shrugged.
Baekhyun was pretty silent during the latest exchange, so when you briefly made eye contact, it reminded you that he could also hear all of that chatter. Which made you want to choke on your drink from humiliation. Thankfully, one of your friends still had some tact left that night, so they quickly changed the direction of the conversation. Still… you’d been mortified for weeks after the event, doing your best to avoid bumping into Baekhyun when leaving for work.
***
The next time you met, Baekhyun was also in the lobby of your apartment building. And once again, before a gathering at your place. Just days prior you had lost it and left your resignation letter at your boss's desk. Working such long hours under the constant pressure of absolutely unrealistic deadlines was taking its toll on you for sure. But when you found out they promoted a person, who was obviously less experienced and capable than you in working (but more capable in flirting with your manager), instead of you… It became the last straw.
Baekhyun appeared right on time as you struggled to push the elevator button with a whole case of beer in your hands.
‘Y/N,’ you heard his velvety voice call. ‘Nice to see you.’
‘Oh- Hi, Baekhyun.’ You greeted awkwardly, puffing from the weight you had to balance.
‘Let me help you with that?’ His suggestion sounded like a question, yet he instantly scooped the case from your hands.
‘You don’t need- thank you,’ you said, and he shook his head to indicate that it wasn’t a big deal.
‘So… having a party again?’ He asked as the elevator doors closed.
‘I wouldn’t call it a party,’ you hummed, looking at your feet. ‘I kinda had to quit my horrible job of 4 years, so my friends are making me celebrate it. Not that becoming unemployed calls for a celebration…’
You trailed off, not wanting to be a nuisance to your neighbor. He was just making small talk.
‘I’m sorry to hear that. Are you taking a break now or looking for something else?’
‘I’ll start looking next week. It’s Friday, my friends are coming… So I’ll try to just clear my mind and rest for one full weekend before I start stressing about a new job. Hopefully, my friends wouldn’t talk my ear off about it – that’s what the beer’s for. My little trick,’ you chuckled sheepishly.
‘Aren’t your friends supposed to treat you in this situation?’ Baekhyun huffed, shaking his head to rearrange his hair and better see you.
‘They should… bring more alcohol with them, I think. I couldn’t have them over for nothing, though.’
The doors opened after a robotic voice announced your floor.
‘Well, anyhow. Thanks a lot for your help!’ You tried taking the beer from Baekhyun, but he didn’t let you.
‘Open the door first; you can’t do it while holding this.’
‘Right. Thanks,’ you fussed, pressing your password in.
Baekhyun quickly placed the case on the floor of your hallway.
‘You should come!’ You blurted out, instantly getting flustered. ‘If you want.’
‘I might drop by if I’m free,’ he smiled softly. ‘My family wanted to have a video call later. That may take long.’
‘Of course. Have fun!’ You nodded, beating yourself up in your mind for being so weird suddenly.
‘You have fun,’ he chuckled, stepping towards his apartment. ‘Oh, and Y/N?’
Looking up at him as he called your name, you were met with his warm yet serious eyes.
‘If you need anything… You know where to find me.’
That made you strangely sentimental.
‘T-thank you.’
He sent you a message later on and let you know he couldn’t make it to your party. But in a way, he was there – on your mind.
***
It was about three weeks after you’d broken things off with Minho. If you could even consider it one, the relationship wasn’t long, only a couple months. At first, you thought it could be something, realizing later that it was only wishful thinking. There was no way the two of you could make it work; you were just not compatible with each other. The more you got to know him, the more you were reassured of that. Your life goals were different, your outlook on relationships was different… even your ideas of quality time with a significant other didn’t match. This time, the initial infatuation wore off rather quickly – probably because you didn’t go out of your way to appease him. You knew it was probably for the better. Pretty much all of your relationships ended the same way, with your boyfriends telling you they found someone else. Someone… more exciting.
This was the case for your first relationship halfway in your first year of university.
‘I’m sorry, Y/N. I just don’t feel the spark, you know? You’re so… domestic,’ your then-boyfriend said in his breakup speech. ‘I’m young, I want to experience stuff, be bold, and have fun. And there are people that I can do this with, who’ll also enjoy it.’
It repeated less than two years later when you’d barely worked up the courage to try and start something with another person. When it happened the third time, you decided you weren’t really made for relationships. It was ironic since you always wanted to be in one. You were very affectionate and were keen on taking care of people. Yes, you weren’t that into big gatherings and parties, and maybe it was a little too difficult to drag you anywhere when you were stressing about the upcoming tests and stuff… But you weren’t completely closed off! Even with those limitations, you were very sociable and had many friends. Was it so bad that you didn’t say yes to every suggestion? Did your inclination to stay at home and have cozy dates instead of outdoorsy stuff make you a non-relationship material? It seemed like every time someone else appeared, your boyfriends easily decided to move on.
And even though you weren’t in love with Minho, this breakup still made you sour. What made this particular day suck was that you’d found out that he was already in a new relationship; happily broadcasting it everywhere.
You weren’t jealous of him for being with someone else. You envied him for being able to find another partner in mere days after you parted ways, while for you, it felt like you’d never find or be able to retain anyone. Ever. Never ever.
‘Earth to Y/N!’ You jumped from someone’s voice ringing in your ears.
Looking up, you saw that the elevator doors were held open by your dashing neighbor, who was staring directly at you.
‘Sorry, I spaced out,’ you quickly entered. ‘Hi.’
‘Hey,’ Baekhyun smiled, pressing the button for your floor. ‘Is everything okay?’
‘Um, yeah. No. I mean-’ You sighed. ‘I’m just a bit out of sorts.’
‘Trouble at work?’
‘No, my new job is great. A huge improvement on the previous one. It’s just… everything else is not nearly as great?’
Yeah, because you pushed yourself to get back on the market to finally not be alone, and here you were. Back to square one.The sniffling you produced startled even your own self.
‘Oh god, I’m sorry.’
‘It’s okay. There’s nothing to be sorry about,’ he replied, his voice gentle. ‘Do you want to talk?’
‘Oh no, I wouldn’t dream about boring you with my stupid problems.’
‘I’m sure they aren’t stupid,’ he said. ‘And I have ice cream. Almost any flavor you could think of.’
You looked at him silently, and he smiled again reassuringly.
‘It’s not mandatory for you to tell me anything. But I can treat my favorite neighbor with some ice cream, can I not?’
‘Am I your favorite just because you don’t know anyone else?’ You snickered gawkily.
‘No. Not just-’
He was interrupted by the usual announcement of your floor.
‘So, what do you think? You can change first and then come, no hurry. I’m free tonight.’
You puckered your lips, genuinely intrigued by his offer. Ice cream sounded perfect right about now. Although agreeing just because of the promised treats was pretty childish, you couldn’t help but be seduced by his suggestion. So, you gave him a shy nod.
‘Okay. Throw on something comfy and come over.’
You entered your respective apartments, and only after the door behind you locked… you realized that your heart was racing.
‘Damn you, Y/N, why did you agree to do this??’ You whined, catching a glimpse of your scrunched-up face in the mirror.
Fishing your phone out of your handbag quickly, you messaged Yuki.
You | I fucked up, Yu!!
You | Idk what to do now…. ㅠㅠ
Ki-yaah | What happened?? Did you like a pic on Minho’s new gf’s SNS??
Ki-yaah | I’m so dumb for telling you about this… I’m so sorry Y/N ㅠㅠ
You | No, not that
You | Who cares about Minho and his girlfriend??
You | I mean, I was a bit salty about this… But I met Baekhyun again!
Ki-yaah | Baekhyun? Your cute as fuck neighbor Baekhyun??
You | No
You | Yes?
You | My neighbor Baekhyun. I blurted out that I wasn’t in the greatest mood, and he invited me to his place for ice cream!
Ki-yaah | WHAT
Ki-yaah | YAH
Ki-yaah | THAT SLEEK BASTARD
Ki-yaah | I hope you’re texting me from his couch
Ki-yaah | Or kitchen counter
Ki-yaah | Or wherever you kids decide to do it
A bunch of obscene emojis appeared on your screen, making you blush on the spot.
You | Do it?? We’re not doing anything. I’m home!
Ki-yaah | So, you’ve already done it?? HOW WAS IT??
Ki-yaah | Waaah, you’re quick these days, Y/N-ah! Finally, you’re learning your lessons
Ki-yaah | I hope you wrapped it up though
Ki-yaah | I wouldn’t blame you if you skipped it, though, I can imagine how starved you are on good sex.. Still, safety first!
Ki-yaah | Wait, so was he?? Any good??
Ki-yaah | You’re silent!
She typed so fast that you didn’t even have a second to write back, mostly from shock – your friend wasn’t always this shameless, actually.
Then she started calling.
‘Yah, why aren’t you spilling the beans?? Too worn out to type, bestie?’ She smirked on the phone, making you cringe.
‘Because there’s nothing to spill! I haven’t even gone over yet.’
There was a second of silence.
‘… What?!’
‘I have to change; I just came from work, you know? My makeup needs fixing too…’
Your phone instantly started vibrating as a video call request came in, which you begrudgingly accepted.
‘Damn, you can’t go like this. It’s not seductive at all!’ She exclaimed.
‘I’m not going over to seduce anyone! And he told me to wear something comfy…’
‘What?? Hm, actually…’ She tapped her index finger on her chin, deep in thought. ‘He does look like the type to be into that.’
‘I-into what?’
‘Cute girls! I told you already, he was probably crushing on you since the time he came to your housewarming party!’
‘Pfft, that’s ridiculous. And don’t bring up him allegedly glaring at Yeol for his stupid comments again, I beg of you!’
‘Alright. But he’s always so nice to you! Oh-Em-Gee, you’d look so cute together,’ she squealed.
‘I don’t have time for this. I can’t have him waiting for much longer, and I need to shower…’
‘Yes! And remove your makeup while you’re at it.’
‘Huh?? If I redo my makeup… isn’t it gonna look strange? Like I’m trying too hard?’
‘You won’t have to redo it. You’ll have only very basic nude makeup on. Looking all natural and cute.’
‘I swear, if you say ‘cute’ one more time-’
‘Can’t a girl dream?? I can already imagine how cute your children would be…’ Your friend kept musing.
‘I’m hanging up.’
‘Yah, take this seriously. Clean up nicely, and let your hair down. Also, shave your-’
‘Yuki!!’
‘You never know!! One second, he’s licking ice cream off his spoon; the other, he’s l-’
Quickly tapping on your phone screen, you canceled this embarrassing call. The vivid images didn’t leave your mind as fast, though, so you shivered, shaking your head to get rid of the obscenities.
‘She’s a bad influence, for sure,’ you muttered, still ashamed of yourself for imagining your neighbor in such a context.
The time was ticking, so you decided that Yuki was somewhat right and needed to clean up. You also needed to hurry the heck up; you didn’t want to make Baekhyun wait too long. Thirty minutes later, you were in front of his door.
‘Come in, come in,’ he ushered you inside, having you change your footwear for the pink house slippers.
Why did he have those again?
‘Cute, right? I ordered them for my niece and got the size completely wrong, but they fit you perfectly. I guess I wasn’t wrong after all.’
He looked at your feet for another second before blinking and clearing his throat.
‘Let’s not waste any more time, everything’s ready. Come on!’
Everything? Did he prepare a whole reception?
You took a good look at the back of his head as he walked you to his kitchen, noticing that his hair was slightly wet. Did he also shower? You swallowed at the thought. He probably didn’t invest as much time into the preparations as you did, though. You blamed your best friend for the inappropriate thought she planted in your head!
‘Here, take a look.’
He opened his freezer, and you gasped.
There was an entire collection of ice cream. Cones, popsicles, buckets… All different flavors and manufacturers.
‘I see you’re impressed,’ he smirked. ‘I have a niece and a nephew, you know? Kids aren’t easy to please these days.’
‘Can’t deny that I am. How many do you have here?’
‘No idea… I just keep buying them. Which one’s to your liking? You can try different ones. I’m in the mood for mint choco and lemon.’
‘Those are my favorites!’ You jumped up like a kid.
‘Really? Both?’
‘Yeah! I haven’t seen a lemon ice cream anywhere, only sorbets! Where did you find it?’ You closed the freezer as he got the two buckets out.
Baekhyun suddenly seemed pleased with himself.
‘You think I give away trade secrets just like that…’ He replied mysteriously.
‘I wanna buy some too,’ you pouted, circling around him while he took the lids off. ‘If you don’t tell me… I’ll eat all of yours!’
‘Ha, go ahead. There’s more where that came from,’ he teased right back, hovering slightly over you.
Lowering your gaze to avoid staring directly at him, you noticed something.
‘What’s this?’
Baekhyun turned back to the counter.
‘Ah, this old thing? You know how ice cream scoops are sold in paper cups or cones? This thing,’ he picked it up. ‘Is to make those. Watch.’
He dipped the instrument in water and shook it slightly, then scooped the mint ice cream, creating a smooth green ball with tiny pieces of chocolate adding to its hue.
‘Cool,’ you muttered, genuinely finding that fascinating.
‘Right? It’s awesome!’
‘Let me guess: the kids don’t appreciate it enough?’ You asked.
‘Those little- Here, you try with lemon.’ He pressed on a small lever and dropped the green globe into a bowl.
You shook your head.
‘I’ll mess it up; you do it.’
‘Come on, Y/N. You can’t mess it up; it’s just ice cream.’
‘Just ice cream? You don’t deserve to know the secret selling spots for this!’
He snorted, moving to the side to give you more space to try and repeat his previous actions.
You dipped it in water like he did and shook it before moving the lemon ice cream bucket closer. Spending about twenty seconds taking aim, you huffed.
‘I can’t do it! Yours is so round and pretty; I am not that professional.’
‘I’ll help,’ he chuckled at your meltdown, holding your wrist and softly pressing down on your hand to guide it. ‘Scoop it this way to make it full and round.’
You did as you were told, yet your mind was far away from the scooping technique. The entire focus of your being was now set on the unprecedented proximity you were in. He held your hand, his chest so close to your shoulder that you could feel the heat radiating off him. When you dropped a yellow ball of lemon ice cream into the bowl, you could only pray that he didn’t notice the goosebumps littering your arms.
‘See? Yours is even better-shaped than mine,’ he hummed close to your ear.
‘Y-yeah.’
As if sensing your perturbation, Baekhyun suddenly stepped back.
‘Trying just two flavors is a waste of an evening. Let’s get more.’
Ten minutes later, you were sitting in his living room at the small table in front of his couch. The bowl with at least a dozen different ice creams sat atop another one, which was filled with ice.
‘No one likes melted goo, right?’ Baekhyun chuckled while constructing this mobile freezer.
You tried all of them one by one, gushing about each flavor.
‘The grape one isn’t tickling my fancy,’ he said, nudging the oddly-colored glob away.
‘Really?’ You reached for it with your spoon.
‘Don’t even try it. That’s bad,’ he scrunched his nose. ‘I can taste every chemical they used to make this grape flavor.’
You laughed, trying it despite his protests.
‘It tastes like… very cheap jelly,’ you said.
‘Exactly! Such a strange texture. Hmm, I shall look for a better option then. My nephew Siwoo loves grapes.’
You smiled at his concern for his youngest family member’s preferences.
‘Your nephews must be the happiest kids in town with an uncle like that,’ you murmured, stealing a bite from the rest of the lemon ball that he subtly nudged your way earlier.
‘They’re pretty lucky, aren’t they?’ He agreed easily, earning a snicker from you.
As you savored the last of the lemon flavor on your tongue, he leaned in, eyes focused on your lips.
‘You eat just like Siwoo,’ he instinctively wiped your lower lip with his thumb.
Looking up at him, you caught the moment he realized what he was doing and retreated.
‘Sorry,’ he muttered awkwardly. ‘It’s a habit.’
Pressing your finger to your lower lip, which was now burning, you shook your head neutrally.
‘It’s okay. You must spend a lot of time with them,’ you scooped more in your spoon to somehow soothe the burn on your lips.
‘Not as much as I’d like. Most of the time, our schedules don’t match up, especially with them living in a different city. I try to have them over or visit them as much as possible.’
Baekhyun’s voice became warmer as he reminisced.
‘I get scolded by hyung a lot for spoiling them. But what can I do? At least they’ll have those pleasant memories and presents to remember me by while we’re apart.’
‘Are they close in age?’
‘About four years apart. Seoyul is pretty grown already; I can’t believe her little brother is going to school soon as well.’ He smiled, remembering something. ‘When she started her first grade, he was so upset. He cried every time she left the house.’
‘Aw, that’s so cute,’ you cooed. ‘So they’re getting along well?’
‘Yeah, apart from the occasional bickering. Siwoo is… a boy.’
‘A little daredevil?’
‘He’s driving his noona insane sometimes. To be honest, I was exactly the same at his age. We’re both lucky to have siblings several years older.’
‘Ah, so your hyung is much older than you?’
‘Seven years. He was almost like a father,’ Baekhyun chuckled. ‘But had he been even a couple of years younger… Pretty sure he would’ve given me a piece of his mind back then.’
‘I wouldn’t ever imagine that you were a maknae of your family.’
‘Why? I had so much aegyo as a child! Yes, my mom had to exercise lots of patience, but I was cute as hell.’
‘I’m sure that’s how it was,’ you hummed.
‘I’m still in the top-3 cutest of our family list. Might even be cuter than Seoyul at times; she’s way too serious these days.’
‘Wow, going over your nephews’ heads after the title… How mature of you.’
‘Hey, don’t blame me for being extremely cute.’
‘Show me some aegyo then,’ you challenged him with a smile.
‘Huh, you wish. You’re not ready for my aegyo, Y/N-ie.’ He responded sassily.
‘Is that so?’ You smirked, holding his gaze up until the chime of your phone provided an interruption.
Your bestie found a great time to pry into your business, which was evident from the message previews on the screen.
Ki-yaah | You’re not texting me back…
Ki-yaah | Which either means that you chickened out…
Ki-yaah | …or his stamina is REALLY freaking impressive
Ki-yaah | Which one is it??? I hope it’s the latter!
You inhaled sharply and started coughing, barely managing to swipe those messages off the screen before Baekhyun could see them.
‘Are you okay?’ He patted you on the back to help you overcome your coughing fit.
‘Yeah, I’m fine. I didn’t realize it was so late… It was so rude of me to keep you up. Let me help you clean this up.’
‘Leave it,’ he shook his head, catching you by the wrist. ‘I’ll put this away later.’
‘I’ll… get going then,’ you stood so abruptly that your legs couldn’t keep up with you, completely numb from being in the same position for so long.
‘Y/N!’ Baekhyun rose to catch you by the arms. ‘Take a second, sit on the couch. Your legs must’ve fallen asleep.’
You swatted at your legs with your palms, urging the blood flow to restore quicker.
‘Sorry…’
‘Why are you sorry? I’m not in a hurry to get rid of you.’ He stated simply.
‘It’s just so late… and… you must have stuff to do.’
‘Nope. I actually had fun. I rarely get to sit around at home munching on ice cream and enjoying another grownup’s company.’
You bit your lip shyly at his words, and he suddenly tsked.
‘Although I feel like we were mostly talking about me. That’s a shame. I want to hear about you as well,’ Baekhyun mused, walking you to the door. ‘Well, let’s save it for next time.’
Next time, he said.
Next time??
You turned your back on him to conceal the shade of your cheeks and pretended to fidget with the doorknob.
‘Let me,’ he reached over you, pressing his warm chest to your back for a second to unlock the door.
But before you could step outside, his fingers wrapped around your forearm in a lax hold.
‘And Y/N… If you ever find yourself craving some lemon ice cream… I’m ready to provide it.’
With that, he pushed the door open and allowed you to leave his apartment.

Wolfbound [Baekhyun Wolf AU]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Alpha!Baekhyun x Omega!OC AU: Wolf/ABO Genres: Romance, Supernatural Warnings: Violence, smut in later chapters Click here to read the first chapter: Link
✨✨✨ The natural hierarchy among werewolves is based on a simple concept. Alphas are the strongest, ruling over betas and omegas, the rarest and weakest wolves in society. Life as an omega is difficult, as Chohee knows from experience. Exposed to the whims of her callous alpha, Yejun, she decides to risk everything in a dangerous escape from his pack, breaking his power over her. She flees through several territories, injured and alone, until a fateful encounter changes her plans. Chohee runs right into her soulmate, Baekhyun, an alpha she fears from the very first moment. When she ends up at Baekhyun’s home, dependent on his protection to survive, the young omega struggles against her fate. She refuses to submit to another alpha, fearing history to repeat itself. A single bite from her soulmate would seal their bond and leave her chained to him forever… ✨✨✨
Author's Note: This is my most recent story concept! If you've read my vampire AU Spellbound, you'll probably enjoy Wolfbound as well. The characters' appearances in this AU are inspired by the Exist photoshoot. <3 I can't wait to explore the alpha/omega dynamic with this fic! I wrote a wolf AU before, but not involving a wolf OC, so this will be interesting. The first chapter is already online and can be read on Asianfanfics: Wolfbound. As usual, I won't post individual chapters of my longer stories on tumblr.

Chapter 1
Look around, lovely
Tumblr media
I’ve been through many things in my life. From my ex leaving me for a “slim thick” girl who lived three blocks away to my best friend, making it their goal to break my spirit from the inside out. I had to cut ties with my treacherous family. I had to change my name, eye color, and wear a purple wig to flee from another crazy ex to Hawaii. I almost had to file for bankruptcy when my twin sister bought three foreign sports cars in my name.
—I’ve been through a lot, but I never expected to find myself in the middle of this shitstorm.
“Yo, Chen, move your ass!”
“I’m almost there!” This so-called Chen hisses into his phone, tugging me behind him by my arm. He glares back at me when I stumble over a recycling bin. “Shut it.” His grip turns painful when I slow down my pace. He stomps hurriedly down shaded alleyways and dimly lit streets. I'd scoff at his audacity if I wasn’t so busy trying to form a plan to escape and not fall flat on my face in the process.
“Yo bitch.” He throws another nasty look over his shoulder, “keep up, will ya?”
My eyes narrow as I purposely stomp on the back of his foot. “Oops,” I chirp when he yelps, hiding my smirk while he curses and hobbles on one leg. “Guess that’s too close, eh?”
He bares his teeth at me. The smirk quickly falls off my lips when the ground is suddenly approaching my face at an alarming rate.
I brace my hands against the pavement at the last second, but my right arm buckles under my weight, sliding my frantic hands across the rugged surface, scraping against the sidewalk with a painful burn. I groan at the fire hot pain shooting up my forearm.
“Oops,” he mocks, his leather boots stepping into view. He bends down in front of me with a tilt of his head. “Guess that was too soon, huh?” His victory smirk on his curled lips would have been sexy if I didn’t have the urge to punch him in his pretty face.
I keep my eyes on him, slowly bringing myself back to my feet. It takes everything in me to ignore the pulsing pain in my knees and the warm liquid running down my elbow as he stands back to his full height. His unimpressive 5’8 stature seems intimidating while I’m poorly hiding my injured arm behind my back. It doesn't help that he has a tattoo of a snake on his bicep, the green ink peeking out from under the sleeve of his black t-shirt. He’s not tall, but he is buff, and that is enough for me to keep my mouth shut... for now.
He runs his eyes over my quiet defensive stance, his smirk turning even more cruel before he yanks me forward by my injured arm. “If we’re late, that’s your ass.”
I roll my eyes to distract myself from the tears threatening to fall, biting my tongue. My hands and arm throb painfully in sync. That hurt like a bitch and he’s two seconds away from being smacked like one.
After walking a few more empty blocks, the rev of an engine reaches my ears—and it’s not from a car. My heart plummets when the realization sets in and the beaming headlights of shiny black vehicles come into view. Two motorcycles stop a few feet away from us in a deserted parking lot. The riders are wearing black helmets with matching clothes, blending in with the night. Their faces are shaded under the dim light of the moon when they take their helmets off.
Dusk is on the rise, concealing the moon behind thick clouds as the world waits for the sun to peek over the horizon. The darkest hour of the night… Looking around at the buff asshole and two newcomers, I can only hope that I’ll make it to see the sunrise. I swallow my nerves while Chen impatiently drags me over to the others.
The guy on the left is the first one to notice us. He shakes his hair, the brunette strands catching light before he switches off the headlights. He’s tall with beautifully toned skin, whistling when we step off of the sidewalk. “Damn hyung, took you long enough.”
Chen shrugs. “Catching the prize was a bit of a struggle.” He rattles my arm for emphasis, his smirk visible under a flickering streetlight.
“Oh?” The brunette’s eyes trail over me, focusing on my pulsing arm before shifting back to the prick next to me. “Looks a bit like damaged goods, hyung.”
“That wouldn’t be the case if it had acted accordingly.” He shrugs, nonchalantly looking me over.
My eyes and mouth twitch. It is really taking everything in me not to say something.
“Hopefully hyung doesn’t mind,” The other tall guy speaks up, eyeing me warily while I stare at his unnaturally orange hair.
“Byun won’t do shit,” Chen waves him off, pulling me closer to a parked bike three parking spaces away. “He hasn’t before and he won’t start now.”
The orange-top guy starts to reply until a loudly revved engine fills the air, announcing the arrival of more motorcycles entering the deserted parking lot. I glare at the biker driving in front, from his laid back posture alone he must be the leader.
“Baekhyun!” Chen yells into the still night with a cocky grin, laughing gleefully. “So happy for you to finally join us. I feared we’d start without you.”
The leader calmly parks his bike a couple of feet away, pulling off his helmet while the other five bikers join him. I bite my cheek to hold back my gasp when his face is revealed. What I expected was some forty-year-old gang member with a huge tattoo, crooked beard, and salt/pepper hair. Not a twenty-something-year-old with one of the most attractive faces I’ve ever seen in my life.
His light brown hair ruffles in the wind, the salty scent of the sea rolling in. He shakes his bangs out of his eyes, looking at the man next to me with a blank expression on his face. Baekhyun’s eyes slowly follow Chen’s arm down to my own in his tight grasp. His eyes linger on my injured arm, the clench of his jaw and flare of his nostrils has my eyes shooting down to look at it myself.
The sight of blood steadily dripping from my ripped sleeve has me wincing. I bite my lip hard to hold back a pain-filled whimper.
Baekhyun cuts his eyes back to Chen with a murderous glare, “Jongdae.” He hisses venomously.
Chen stiffens, his grip loosening on my arm, “Byun?” He’s caught off guard, the confusion rings loudly in his uncertain voice.
“What the fuck is this?” Baekhyun looks at my arm then at him again, his voice growing louder by the minute. “Why the hell is she bleeding?”
“She wasn’t…” Willing to come? Willing to follow a stranger? Willing to get pulled out of a store for nothing? “Very compliant.”
“And you brought her here anyway?” Baekhyun gives him an incredulous look, his eyes narrowed at the latter’s silence. “What. The. Fuck. Did. You. Do.”
I shift on my feet, highly uncomfortable just witnessing this exchange. The other bikers watching them quietly doesn’t calm my nerves in the slightest. I know one thing for certain—the tension can be cut with a knife, and I’m not about to be in the middle of this hell much longer.
“I was walking with her down the street, and she fell.” Chen chooses to say.
I crack my neck when I whip it around to face him. “Really?” I snap. “You purposely yanked me forward and let go, yet dare say I fucking fell?!”
Chen scowls at me. “Well if you weren’t being such a bi‒” He pales when I sense a dark aura behind me.
I turn around to a furious Baekhyun. His brown eyes blaze brightly in anger amongst the pitch darkness of the night, the wind tousling his hair across his forehead. The urge to take a step back is high until I remember who is right behind me. Baekhyun takes one look at me then turns his fire-filled gaze to the fearful man behind me. “I’ll deal with you later.”
I look down at the sudden hand gently grabbing my uninjured arm, meeting Baekhyun’s eyes before he takes a step back. And for some reason; I follow. He keeps his eyes steady on mine before turning to address the others. “I’m calling it off.” His gaze meets every individual one of theirs. “Any objections?”
No one even so much as moves.
Baekhyun firmly nods, peering down at me with a raised brow. “Come with me?” Even while he asks, I’m already being led over to his bike. He grabs his helmet and pauses, turning to me, the dim street lights reflecting the mysterious glint in his brown eyes. “Have you ridden a motorcycle before?”
I look at the bike then back at him, narrowing my eyes. “Are you planning to kill me with it?”
The corner of his lips twitch up, “that’s a no then. May I?”
Eyeing the helmet in his hands, I nod, quickly muttering, “if I die, I’m suing you,” when he starts to place it on my head.
Baekhyun chuckles. “Don’t worry.” He adjusts the helmet with a teasing little grin, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “You’re in good hands.”
“Uh huh—oof!” I yelp when he suddenly lifts me up and sets me on the back of his vehicle—that seems one hundred times more intimidating now that I’m sitting on it. “I swear, Byun, if I fall‒”
“You won’t.” Baekhyun affirms. He throws his leg over the motorcycle and climbs onto it with grace, throwing one last look back at me before starting the engine. It purrs in a way I’ve never heard before. The low, crispy sound vibrates through my entire body when his deep voice reaches my ears. “Hold on tight.”
When he revs the engine, I wrap my arms tightly around his waist. The fear of death is greater than the pulsing of my bleeding arm. We speed out into the street, the others becoming mere specks of shadowy figures in the distance as we go further down the dirt road.
My eyes stay partially closed until I remember that I’m wearing a helmet, and if anyone has to do that its Baekhyun. Which is fucking scary considering the fact that he is the one driving! Steering this two-wheeled vehicle that tilts side to side depending on the gravitational pull of the earth and the wind.
I flinch when we roll over a bump in the road, gripping the front of Baekhyun’s shirt. I can’t tell if it’s the motorcycle or his chuckles causing the vibrations in his chest when I rest my head on his back. The sun is slowly rising, pale light peeking over the horizon. It bounces off of the calm ocean water in the distance. It’s fascinating, how the ocean and the cloudy sky meet, like a snowglobe full of cascading sparkles.
The blur of buildings comes into focus when we slow down, Baekhyun resting his feet on the ground when we reach a red light. Recognizing the slightly run-down buildings, my heart rate picks up. “Baekhyun? Where are we going?” I ask warily. Instead of replying, he pats my clenched fist in a pacifying manner and takes off once the light switches to green.
Gulping down my nerves, I make sure to take note of every street we go down in case I have to hightail my ass out of wherever we are headed. The sight of small brick houses and wide front porches brings a wave of nostalgia over me—and not in a good way. All I can do is hold onto him and hope I stay in one piece until we reach our destination. The weight of my knife concealed in my left boot gives me little reassurance.
We start to slow down on a street that welcomes us with the largest maple tree that I’ve ever seen, followed by small but surprisingly well-kept homes. It’s pretty for the infamous neighborhood that we are in, and the house we stop in front of in particular is the nicest one.
Baekhyun drives up the driveway and parks, getting off the motorcycle with grace before helping me down as well. I flinch when I try to straighten my injured arm. It hurts worse than it did earlier, burning every time my denim jacket sways in the wind and brushes against it. I keep my arm bent at the elbow while clutching it to my chest.
Baekhyun notices but doesn’t say anything. He walks up to the house while I linger behind, taking in the flower-filled yard. Pretty pink roses and beautifully bloomed dandelions take up most of the land. Growing steadily alongside the driveway and sidewalk, their healthy petals awaiting the sunlight.
“Hey.”
Turning back to Baekhyun, he crosses his arms and leans against the doorframe of the open door. The sun shines down on his caramel-colored coat, black graphic tee shirt, and leather pants. The more I look at him, the more confused I get. How on earth is he in a bike gang? He has no visible tattoos, no piercings. The only things “gangsta” about him are his sharp brown eyes, confident stance, and authoritative aura.
Baekhyun clears his throat, jolting me from my thoughts. He raises a brow with a tilt of his head, the corner of his lips twitching. “Come in.” He disappears into the house before I can give any sort of reply.
Pulling my phone out of my bra, I snap a picture of the street sign and send it to my friend so they know my whereabouts—just in case. I tuck it back under my shirt and take one last look at the quiet neighborhood before entering the house.
The only way I can describe the interior is warm. With light brown walls and darker carpeted floors. The living room alone is full of worn-in couches with pretty throw blankets. When I start to take off my shoes, Baekhyun pops up, shaking his head, “there’s more dirt on this floor than out in the yard.”
He walks off into another part of the house with his heeled boots and loud footsteps. I spot a bright orange crumpled leaf and a patch of dried grass in the center of the room. Heeding his advice, I take a wary glance at the unlocked door before going to look for him. Walking to the other side of the living room, I’m met with a doorway to the kitchen on my left and a hallway to my right. Finding no sign of Baekhyun in the tidy room, I venture down the hall.
“In here,” he calls out just as I pass the first door on the left.
Backtracking a few steps, I look inside the bathroom while he rummages in the cabinet under the sink. My eyes move back to him when he swears.
“I know I left it somewhere,” he mumbles just as his eyes caught sight of something. With a tug, he pulls back to close the doors, standing up with a familiar red box in his hands. “Have a seat,” he beckons me over, gesturing to the closed toilet lid with his chin.
I settle myself on the cold surface, the white porcelain chilling my skin through my jeans. Watching him carefully while he sets the first-aid kit beside the sink and takes out antibacterial wipes. When he reaches for my arm I flinch back.
Baekhyun gives me a look. “May I?”
Sighing deeply and gritting my teeth, I nod with a roll of my eyes, slowly taking off my ripped jacket and dropping it in the bathtub. I look away when he draws nearer with the wipe, clenching my hand into a fist. The sting brings tears to my eyes.
After what feels like hours, Baekhyun gets to work on the gauze, gently wrapping it around my arm and taping it together. I take a few deep breaths as he moves over to the sink, focusing on the sound of running water instead of the irritated skin of my scratched palms.
“You won’t need stitches,” Baekhyun murmurs thoughtfully, his voice breaking the silence, echoing across the tiled walls of the room. He dries his hands on an indigo blue towel hanging from a high bathroom rack attached to the wall. “...Are you okay?”
The hint of concern in his voice is surprising, it prompts my eyes shift over to him. “Yea—Fuck!” I hiss loudly, quickly bending my elbow back to its position. The tender wound throbs painfully in sync with my racing heartbeat.
His brows raise. He crosses his arms, leaning his hip against the counter and giving me another knowing look. I only glare back at him.
Baekhyun sighs tiredly. “I’ll get you an Advil.” He shakes his head, making his way out of the room and venturing further down the hallway. I clutch my arm to my chest, sending a quick text to my friend to come pick me up. Thankfully she’s right around the block, passing through the neighborhood on her way back home from work.
A smile curls on my lips when she sends a picture of the great maple tree at the nearest red light. The bandages crinkle when I stand up, grabbing my jacket and tentatively closing the first-aid kit before heading back towards the front of the house. Heavy footsteps have my head whipping back around to find Baekhyun in the hallway with a box of Advil in his hands. “Hey,” he cracks an awkward smile, his hair slightly disheveled.
I narrow my eyes at him.
The smile slowly falls off his face. He clears his throat, gesturing to the box in his hand. “I got you the Advil.”
“I see.” I don’t take my eyes off of him for a minute, shifting my weight so I can retrieve my knife if the need arises. His body language is off and his intentions are not clear. I make sure to keep distance between us; I’ve been in this situation a million times before. Whatever he is trying to achieve with this small talk, I am not up for sticking around to find out.
“Do you, uh‒” he runs a hand through his hair. “Do you need a ride?”
“No, I called a friend,” I smile tightly.
“Oh.” His hand falls down to his side. He shoves it into his pocket and outstretches the box in his hand towards me. “Here, half the box is left. You probably need them more than‒” his eyes catch mine and he clears his throat again, “me.”
I look him up and down and carefully take the box from his hand, avoiding making any contact. My lips twitch in a mixture of amusement and annoyance. “Thanks.”
Baekhyun nods, shoving both hands in his pockets, the velvet green underside of his coat showing when he parts his lips again. “About what happened earli‒”
The rev of a sports car engine cuts him off. “Hop in, bitch!” my best friend yells, breaking the tranquil atmosphere of this shady neighborhood in the early hours of the morning. “We’re going home!”
I glance at the open door then shoot him a forced, polite smile. “Thanks um… Baekhyun, was it? But there’s my ride. I got to go.”
Baekhyun nods while I make sure I have everything, tucking the box of medicine under my good arm. “See you around,” he speaks up when I’m halfway through the door.
Darting my eyes back to him with my hand on the screen door, I smile my fakest smile, letting it slam shut behind me. “Bye!” With a roll of my eyes, I match down the driveway to my friend’s car and hop in with a passive-aggressive smile.
“What the hell happened to your arm?” she raises a perfectly arched brow.
“A situation you never want to be in while shopping for hairspray, Alison. Now drive.”

Chapter 1: Depth of Field
The sun warmed Baekhyun’s skin against the cold breeze that weaved through the tall grass. It was turning golden, creating the perfect lighting for him to catch through his lens. The puttering of an old truck broke the stillness as it made its way on the road behind him, but he kept his focus on the camera. He was so focused that he didn’t notice the puttering had stopped.
“You okay?”
He jumped with a yelp at the sudden voice and spun around to find that the truck had come to a stop and its driver was addressing him. The light of the setting sun was blocking his view of the woman’s features, but he could tell she was young by her voice.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you. Do you need help?” she asked with a giggle that tinkled like soft bells.
“I’m okay,” he responded, the Russian still awkward in his mouth. “Just catching some photos before the sun goes down.”
“Would you like a ride back to town?” she asked. “It’s quite a walk.”
“I’m going to be taking photos for a while, but thank you,” Baekhyun said and started to turn back to the scene he was capturing.
“I don’t mind waiting,” the woman said. “I’d hate to leave someone alone on these roads after dark. They’re not the safest.”
“It could be a while,” he said, turning back to her again.
“My evening is free.”
“Well…” he thought for a second. Walking back in the dark was not the most ideal situation. “Okay,” he finally conceded. “I’ll buy you dinner as a thank you.”
“I’d never refuse a free meal,” she said with a chuckle.
He smiled at her honest response and then turned back to the scenery that was quickly changing with the sun’s descent. Faster than he anticipated, the sun was gone and he rushed to pack his gear in the lack of light, then made his way carefully through the tall grass to the road where the truck still waited.
The young woman was now hidden in the heavy shadows of twilight, but she noticed him coming before he had even left the brush.
“All done?” she asked, leaning across the truck to open his door from inside.
“Yep,” he responded as he finally made it to the asphalt. “Where can I put my gear?”
“There isn't much room in the cabin, unfortunately, but you can get in here what will fit and place the rest in the bed if you’re okay with that.”
“Better than lugging it back to town on foot,” he said. He placed his camera bag on the floor then took his tripod to the back and placed it in the truck bed as securely as possible. When he climbed into the front she started the vehicle and then held her hand out to him.
“My name’s Lara,” she said and he took her hand.
“Baekhyun,” he said after a second of hesitation.
“Korean?” she asked with surprise, her grip tightening as she pulled him closer.
He nodded, trying to pull back.
“Oh, sorry,” she said, letting go and switching to Korean. “I got excited. There aren’t really many Koreans in the surrounding towns.
The language change surprised him and he noted the lack of accent. “Are you Korean as well?”
“On my mom’s side,” she said, then put the truck in gear and started driving. “Spoke both Korean and Russian growing up, so I’m fluent in both. Your Russian is pretty good, but I can tell it’s not a natural language for you. How long have you lived here? Must be fairly new if I hadn’t heard about you yet. Word about newcomers travels pretty fast around here.”
“I haven’t been around long,” he said, adjusting in his seat as he tried to come up with answers. “I travel a lot and liked some of the scenery in the area so I thought I’d stick around for a bit.”
“Do you work for a magazine, or…?”
“Just freelance,” he responded when she trailed off. “I’ll send shots to magazine companies sometimes and find random requests online to fulfill. I’d like to set up a studio someday though if I can ever settle down.”
“Wanderlust?”
“Something like that. Nowhere really feels like home.” He shifted again and coughed. “What about you?”
“I can’t really seem to escape the small-town life,” she said with a shrug. “Moved away from home, but only made it a few towns over. I didn’t really have any grand plans, just wanted to see how I would do on my own.”
“Sounds grand to me,” Baekhyun said with a smile. “Where do you work?”
“The little bakery on the east end at the corner. I was just coming back from a delivery to the next town over.”
“I’ve been meaning to go in there. What do you recommend?”
“We’ve got some pretty good muffins,” she said. “But they’re my specialty so I might be biased.”
“I happen to really like muffins,” he said. “I’ll have to give them a try.”
They continued to chat casually as they bounced down the road. Stars became more and more visible as the light continued to fade in the horizon and the homesickness that Baekhyun had been struggling with lightened slightly at the familiar language and constant chatter.

The backlash that came when Baekhyun and Chanyeol denounced their marriage was something that no one expected. They knew their parents would be upset, but the sheer mortification that came from knowing Baekhyun had been with another alpha and never actually slept with Chanyeol was so confusing. The fact that the male was Baekhyun’s destined mate didn't seem to matter to anyone.
While the elders had stayed silent, the parents argued back and forth on how they could rectify the situation, without bothering to listen to the children whose lives they were purposefully trying to ruin for the simple fact that Baekhyun was a gifted male omega with the ability to bear pups. They didn't care that they were trying to break not one, but two bonds. Bonds from the same family.
It confused Soohee, because she remembered very clearly that Chanyeol had said the whole union between Baekhyun and himself was because they trusted Chanyeol and it was a great way for her father to get a foot into the counsel and influence decisions and laws however he saw fit.  Chanyeol was going to be the next elder and possibly the next head alpha if he could pass the tests that would challenge his strength, his logic, and his wit. And while she worried about her brother being hurt, she believed the man he was with would never hurt him since they were destined mates. And if her father still wanted that in, if he would just listen to Chanyeol, he would know that they were destined mates.
Soohee had never told her parents or anyone else what happened that night after her party, nor the weekend and the two days after that she was in heat. They were mates, she knew that and still had trouble processing it, but it was a fact she was more than ready to admit. Yet they hadn't mated during her heat, both agreeing that they wanted to wait. Even if they used protection, there wasn't a guarantee it would work or if they would constantly remember the amount of times they would have to have sex. So Chanyeol did his best to pleasure her and help her through her heat and she was so thankful for it. But they still haven't told anyone. Or rather, they were trying, but no one was actually listening to them.
“Well since your son has been defiled, we will find a new mate for Chanyeol. A better and loyal omega!” Mr. Park grunted out.
“What?” Chanyeol asked in shock.
“Excuse me? My son is very much loyal!”
“Lies. He's been defiled by that Chinese vagrant!” Mr. Park growled. “You and your family are so immoral, Mr. Byun, that I'm surprised you're all even allowed to continue to live in this pack. And if your son acts like this, I can't even begin to imagine how your daughter must be, whoring about and asking for any male to fuck her.”
“That’s enough! You are so vile and disgusting, speaking of a child like that!” Mr. Byun shouted.
“Child?! Child?! She's of age now isn't She? But has that ever stopped her? You don't think we don't hear rumors?”
“What? Soohee, what is talking about?” Mr. Byun asked, furious by all the words being thrown around.
“I don't know.” Soohee said. “I don't know of rumors. Dad, it's a lie.” She said.
“Adults don't lie.” Mr. Park snapped at her and she shrunk back. Lies from an adult. She had no idea where he would ever get such information about her. She had never done anything to try and get guys. She had only ever wanted Chanyeol. And even her closest friends knew that.
“If she says there are none, then there aren't.” Mr. Byun growled. “My daughter is perfect! Maybe it’s your son that is the issue!” He fired back. Another round of shouting began and Soohee had heard enough. She slipped out of her chair and did her best to sneak out of the meeting hall. She thought she was very successful and made it outside with a sigh.
“For the love of god. Adults are crazy. I don't want to be an adult.” She whined softly.
“Tell me about it.”
Soohee jumped and looked over at her brother as he came to sit next to her. “Oppa.” She said gently. “Are you okay? Dad and Mr. Park are blowing everything out of proportion.” She said.
“I know.” Baekhyun sighed softly and closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead gently. “Like, why are they like this? The elders always preach about destined mates and not interfering and here they are staying quiet while our parents fight to ruin our lives.”
Soohee stared at him and sighed softly. She reached over and rubbed his back gently and smiled softly. “It'll be okay.” She said softly. “You have your mate. You should go and run off with him. They can't stop you.”
“And leave you?” Baekhyun asked softly. “Disappoint our family? I couldn't.” He said as he looked at her.
“So you'd rather risk your bond with your mate?” Soohee asked and cocked her head. “Oppa, you're not a disappointment. And I'll be fine.”
“Because you have your mate now.” Baekhyun said and smiled weakly at her.
“I….what?”
“Don't play dumb.” Baekhyun laughed softly. “I knew the moment I introduced you to Chanyeol that you two were mates.” He said.
“How?”
“Blue eyes are the sign that an alpha has found their mate and imprinted on them. I saw them that day. I knew and I made him promise me he would never try anything with you until you were old enough.” He said. “I had no idea that this stupid union would be done either.” He said and ran a hand through his hair some before groaning. “I don't know what to do Soohee.”
Soohee frowned as she stared at her brother and was gonna answer when another person joined them.
“Let's go and start our own pack.” Their heads whipped around quickly and stared at Chanyeol in shock. “what?”
“What do you mean what? How can we start our own pack?” Soohee asked, confused. “That's a big task.”
“Yeah and where would we go?” Baekhyun asked and Chanyeol just shrugged.
“Does it matter? We’ll just go somewhere. The four of us establish our own pack. We'll gather packless shifters and shifters wanting a new pack and just start over fresh.” He said.
“Do you...do you think we can do it?” Baekhyun asked.
“Well with Yixing as another alpha, I'm sure we can manage and grow slowly. It might be hard at first. But won't it be worth it?” Chanyeol asked. “They obviously don't care about our wants and needs. Our destinies. So we need to take our lives into our own hands.” He said. His eyes moved from Baekhyun to Soohee and he smiled. He took her hand and held it gently in his, squeezing it gently.
“Chanyeol.” Soohee whispered softly and smiled.
“It'll be worth it.” Baekhyun agreed and smiled softly at them. “Come on. Let's go.” He said and stood. Soohee looked back at her brother and nodded. She stood, pulling at Chanyeol’s hand and making him stand. “I'll meet you two at Yixing’s. Don't take too long, okay?” He said.
They nodded and with quick goodbyes, they parted ways, with Soohee going with Chanyeol because she just needed to be with him. “Are you sure this is a good idea?” Soohee asked as she walked towards Chanyeol’s jeep.
“No. But we have to do what we have to do.” Chanyeol said as he unlocked the doors and climbed into the driver's seat. Soohee sighed and got into the jeep, closing the door before turning to face him.
“Chanyeol, I'm being serious. I'm still a kid. I'm fresh out of high school, just turned 18 and you want to move to some unknown place and start a pack there. It sounds crazy.” She said, “Are you sure this is something you really want?” Her question was directed towards their current decision but there was an undertone of uncertainty about their relationship. Was she really what he wanted?
Chanyeol sighed softly as he slipped the key into the ignition before turning to face her. “Soohee.” He said gently. He scooted over to her and reached out, his fingers stroking her cheeks gently. “I want to be with you, and only you. And if that means we have to go into the future blind, then I will do it. I love you.” He told her and leaned in, pressing their foreheads together gently. “I've loved you for so long and I've waited for so long. Now I have you, I don't ever want to let you go. Please. Stay with me.”
Soohee stared up into his eyes and felt her heart race at how beautiful and gorgeous they were. And probably because of his words, but mostly due to his eyes. “Of course I'll stay with you.” She said gently. “Why wouldn't I when I have been pinning after Mr. Handsome for so long.” She said with a giggle. Chanyeol smiled softly and leaned forward and kissed her softly. It was soft and quick, but she loved it all the same.
“Then let's go. And we'll start a new life together and be happy together.” Chanyeol said gently with a smile. Soohee nodded and smiled softly as they pulled back and Chanyeol started the jeep.
“Everything will be okay, right?” she asked.
“Of course. Trust me.”
~*~
“Dad, no! Stop it! Let me go!” Soohee shouted as she struggled in the grips of a few of the male wolves her father had dragged with him. She wasn't sure how they knew their plans or how to find them, but they did. It was probably just their keen sense of smell. That was the only possible reason she could think of, of how they found them this far out of the city.
“I would expect this kind of thing from Baekhyun, but you? Why Soohee? Why are you going to associate yourselves with these rebels?” Mr. Byun asked as he motioned to her brother. His mate and Chanyeol, all of whom were being detained as well. Though it was taking more people to hold Chanyeol back as he was being scolded so loudly by his father. She could hear every nasty word he was calling her and her brother and she just couldn't take anymore. “Soohee! Answer me!”
“He's my mate!” the words fell from her lips before she could even stop to fully process her train of thought. The announcement seemed to draw the attention of everyone as they all went silent.
“Excuse me?” Mr. Park asked, eyes wide.
“Chanyeol is my mate.” She said softly and jerked herself from the slacking grips of the men. “He is mine, and Baekhyun has found his and the rest of you are acting like spoiled little children!”
“Soohee!”
“No dad! It's true. You all are supposed to be adults, filled with wisdom that's supposed to help guide your children as they become adults and start their own family. And here you both are, two families that don't give a shit about their own children and are just obsessed with whatever power they can have!” She sneered, disgusted.
“Byun, put a stop to her before I do.” Mr. Park warned, but was greeted with a very angry growled and rough shove as Chanyeol tore himself from the four men holding him back. Their strength together was nowhere near a match for Chanyeol’s strength when he really used it, like he had in this case.
“You won't touch her.” Chanyeol growled out as he moved to Soohee and pulled her close to him, his arm wrapped tightly around her waist to protect her. “And she's right. Ever since it was announced what my future status would be, all you or anyone else has ever cared about was that. You held me so high up on a pedestal, out of the reach for anyone you deemed unworthy. You never stopped to ask what I wanted or if I've found my mate. Well, dad, I have. And it's not Baekhyun. It was never Baekhyun and it would be selfish and wrong of me to try and keep him from his own mate.”
“Chanyeol.” Mr. Park floundered for words to speak, but he couldn't even form a decent, coherent sentence.
“We know who we love, who we are meant to be with, and what we're doing is the only way we can be with them. So either you accept this reality or step aside and let us leave.” Everyone was silent for a long while, staring at the two before looking at the two fathers.
“Soohee...there was an agreement…”
“And it can still be upheld. Just not with Baekhyun, but me instead. You can still have whatever it is you want. And the rest of us can be happy. The last thing I've ever wanted to do is leave you and mom but I can't live without him. I don't want to feel our bond break. It'll kill me.” she said softly.
“Don't be so dramatic, it won't kill you if…” Mr. Park started but paused. “You haven't marked her, have you?”
Chanyeol stared at his father intently before moving his hand and lifting her shirt slightly to show the mark he had left on her side. “Three weeks ago, when she went into heat,” he said proudly. “She is mine. Forever.” he announced and pulled her closer as he leaned down slightly to nuzzle her head.
“Dad please.” Baekhyun whispered. “Just let us be happy.”
Mr. Byun looked between his two children and sighed heavily. “We can't fight it now. A bond has been made, I assume for both of them. The elders wouldn’t take too kindly if we destroyed them for selfish reasons.” he sighed. “And it would hurt me to hurt my children, I should have realized that from the beginning.” he said and walked over to Baekhyun as he was finally released. “Are you sure?”
“Yes.” Baekhyun said and smiled. “There is no denying, he is the one.” he said and looked over at Yixing. Mr. Byun sighed, nodded and looked over, waving his hand in signal for Yixing to be released. The silent alpha moved to Baekhyun and hugged him tightly, nuzzling against his neck.
“I suppose I have two unions to prepare for now.” Mr. Byun smiled. “Let's get you all home before your mothers have a fit.”
“Oh...yeah.” Mr. Park cleared his throat. “Chanyeol, I'll need you to-”
“Yeah dad. Don't worry. I'll call her down.” Chanyeol laughed. It was funny to see such a composed man cower in fear at the mention of his angry wife.
~*~
Soohee smiled as she flopped back on her bed, a laugh leaving her as Chanyeol stumbled out of his pants, hopping around to try and kick off the offending garments before finally flinging it across her room. It hit her closed door and he winced before climbing into her bed. “Are you new to taking off pants?” she asked teasingly.
“Oh shut up.” Chanyeol chuckled as he laid down next to her and stared at her face. “It's not my fault you have me tripping over my feet.” he teased and chuckled as she blushed. “You're so cute. You know that?” he asked as he reached out and stroked her head and cheek lightly.
“I can't help but to know it. You tell me all the time.” she said gently as she leaned into the touch. Sighing softly, she leaned in and kissed him, her lips brushing teasingly over his lips every time he dipped in to try and deepen the kiss. A soft giggle left her, followed by Chanyeol’s own growl as he nipped at her bottom lip as Soohee pulled completely back.
“You are such a tease.” Chanyeol groaned and pouted as he stared at her smiling face. “Soohee.” he whined out and Soohee giggled at it. She reached up and poked his nose lightly.
“What?” she asked with a smirk.
“I want a kiss.”
“You just had a kiss.”
“I want another.” he said as he slipped his arm around her waist and pulled her close to him.
“Don't be greedy.” she teased and Chanyeol huffed. “Oh, aren't you so cute?” she said and pinched his cheek lightly.
Chanyeol stared at her with narrowed eyes and huffed again before he leaned in and captured her lips in a deep and passionate kiss. Soohee giggled slightly into the kiss before melting into it, pressing herself against him tightly. Everything just felt so right. She finally had the man of her dreams, she could openly be with him and start working on their future together and that excited her. Her future was with Chanyeol and hopefully with some children as well.

‘Better safe than to be sorry’
1333 words
Today is the day your husband, Byun Baekhyun, was discharged from the military. Waiting for him for around a year and nine months feels longer for you, though he returned home once in a while. You are thankful to be invited to watch the closing ceremony for those who have completed their military service. He may not notice you taking pictures of him since you are covering yourself with face masks for protection. “Better safe than to be sorry” you remember your husband always reminding you of the pandemic standard health procedure.
When all soldiers who completed military service are dismissed, you finally saw him coming out from the military stage. You wave at him and he sees you too. You can see his smile although he covers himself with face masks. You quickly run to him when you saw him spreading his arm open wide. “Gosh, it’s been two weeks. I miss my love so much” he tightens his embrace. “Me too, hubby…. Let’s go home” and he nods in agreement.
“You must be tired. I’ll drive,” you insist although Baekhyun offers to drive home. He just smiles. Baekhyun asks to drop by and buy some takeaway food since he doesn’t want to see you spending time doing house chores. “I want to spend time with you, my love. All I see was a muscular man at the camp, at the social work…. Gosh, I thought I’m going crazy” you only laugh hearing him saying that.
When you reach home, your husband strictly wants you two to clean yourselves first. You agree with him; since the pandemic is still around though the situation gradually getting better. You ask him to have a bath first, while you clean your hands and transfer the food bought earlier to a few plates. You take turns to take bath while Baekhyun takes his time calling his parents about him being safely and healthily discharged from military service. After that, both of you enjoy the food together. He continues chatting even at the kitchen table, telling you about his military life; what was happening every morning at the social work, the important events, and some memories that he cannot forget while he was doing military service. He feels good to be able to take a break from the entertainment world and has a chance to socialise with professional soldiers, and social workers and be friends with them.
You carefully listen to each history your husband tells you. You share his happiness for being able to complete his military service; as you know that alongside Suho, his military service was a bit longer than his fellow EXO members. “Wow…. I wonder what happen the moment I return to the entertainment world. I must be like when I was still a rookie, being awkward and all that” he expresses his concern. “Don’t worry hubby, you’ll be fine. After all, you are called Genius Idol for a reason” you encouraged him. “Thank you, sweetie. Without your love and support, I seriously can’t face this world alone” He sighs.
He helps you with the dishes. However, when you stare at his body from behind, you feel that his body is toner than before though it’s just two weeks since you last see each other. You can’t help yourself but feel sensual around him; as it’s been too long since you’re not been together. “Hubby….” You slowly get closer to him and hug him from the back. He understands you and he too wanted the same. He finishes washing dishes and immediately hugs you back, fiercely kissing you while he slowly leads you to the bedroom.
Today, going to the bedroom seems longer than you think at the present. You need him urgently. “Hubby, I want you now…. I can’t stand anymore….” You plead. “Sweetie, just a few steps to….” But you don’t care, you fully undress him right before the bedroom. He didn’t argue with you, taking off your clothes until you are as bare as him. You hastily kneel down and taste his long, delicious cock. He grunts while moving his body along with your movement.
You wrap his waist with your right leg while gently grinding your lower part against his, and ferociously kissing each other, as you two explore each other bodies, making you both moan erotically. “You’re fully wet now, sweetie…. I need you now; I can’t wait anymore.”
“Ummm…. me too….” you whimper as you keep grinding yourself against his lower part. Hearing your approval, he instantly inserts his already hard member inside you, while still standing. You two grunt louder. “I want to…. Ugh….”
“Cum around my cock, let me feel your hot juice” your husband takes turns sucking your nipples while holding your waist steadily. You reach your first orgasm, as you squeal louder. Amazingly, your husband releases his warm juice right after you cum as well. Yet, you still feel his shaft hard, and you know well that the round has not ended. “Next round” he takes a deep breath, hurriedly carrying you to the bedroom, and locking the door.
He lays down with you, quickly spreading your legs apart, and he enters you once again, in a missionary position. You keep moaning while clawing his back, but he simply doesn’t care as you two are letting go of that longingness together.
“Ahhhh hubby, ahhhh ahhhh ahhhh ummm fuck yeah ahhhh ahhhh ahhhhhhh” you moan loudly while he slams his dick harder and faster into you, making you reach your second orgasm.
“Hubby…. More….” You beg shortly after taking a deep breath. “Of course, my love” he kisses you.
He places you on top of him again, sitting together upright on the bed, facing each other. His member is still inside you, this time he moves slowly, making sweet love with you. “I miss doing this” you slurred. “Don’t worry, I’m here now. We’ll do this frequently” he kisses your forehead. “Ohh…. You are so tight….” He continues while licking and sucking your boobs. “Ohh, hubby…. Why do I feel yours is getting longer and bigger…. Ahhh ahhhh, do you eat something….” you compliment him while blowing a kiss on his temple, then going down to his ear. “Maybe exercise helps, sweetie. But I could do this all night, your moan always making me hard again and again each time. Moan for me again, my love” you whine harder, your pussy is getting wetter hearing naughty words from him.
All of a sudden, his hand reaches out for your clit while still fucking you, constantly rubbing it making you arch your back while calling his name in fortissimo. You shiver, sending another orgasm over you. Your husband spins you around when you are still out not recovering from your last orgasm and currently taking you from behind while back hugging you. His right hand grope one of your breasts while the other hand caresses your stomach, then down all the way to your sensitive clit again.
“Ahhhh…. hubby ummm…. Ahhh ahhhh….ummm …. faster….” You urge him while supporting both of you with your hands. He obeys you and goes as fast as he could. You both scream louder, not caring about whoever hears it anymore. “Love…. ugh…. cumming…. AHHHH” your husband only manages to utter those words when you finally cum together. He quivers and groans loudly while shooting his warm juice deep inside your womb, and you both fall together on the bed, exhausted from the lovely intercourse.
Even with his eyes already half closed, he is still able to find your lips. You two kiss dearly for a moment. “My best gift for Valentine’s Day ever,” you said. “My military discharge or our lovemaking?” he asks while snuggling with you. “Both” you two giggling while patting his chest fluffily. “I love you forever and ever” Baekhyun hugs you to sleep. “I love you too, until the end of my life” and soon after you also sleep peacefully next to your husband.
Thank you for reading.

𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐁 𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐄𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘 /mature 20+/
I'd love to get back into role-playing and especially as my comfort pairing ── chanyeol and baekhyun. I'm looking for a long-term partner that is open to plotted rps, pwp, messages form of rp and bonding in the ooc. Anything that we agree on. I'm open to ocs too since I'm usually always ic and taking smaller rps into the chat when there's no time for more lengthy messages for our main rp. Seems like I'm just really lonely and looking for a yeol fc to pamper and flirt with- I'm also on discord.
I'm a dom switch (would prefer you to be a dom or switch too, even a sub top.) Must be open to dark plots, dead dove, kinks. More will be shared in private. Semi lit to lit, no one liners since I enjoy detailed paragraphs.
Message me if interested.

Relationship with SuperM
Tumblr media
Taemin sees her as a little sister - he sees her as like, a distant sister because the other SHINee members kind of raised her on the side as well lol. He likes being around her because he finds her cold outer appearance interesting and amusing for him (one of the few who were not scared of her at first)
They got closer once the announcement of SuperM was released to them, they now had an opportunity to really hang out and get to know each other
They bond over the other SHINee members first before they venture out and talk about other random stuff
Now, they really do see each other as siblings, teasing each other all the time - he especially loves teasing her that he is the older one out of the two
They also bond over dancing
She's not super good like him, of course, but she is pretty good at dancing for someone who only started dancing when they became a trainee - Taemin and her spend time dancing together, and he helps her to improve further
Sometimes they will release a surprise video of the two dancing together, just to create chaos with their fans
Nari was the female voice featured in Taemin's song 'Idea'
Tumblr media
He found her intriguing when she was a trainee - she wasn't bright and bubbly like other female trainees, but was calm and collected, not showing much expression
It made him want to crack that mask and make her laugh or express another emotion
He couldn't do it that much back then, her walls were pretty up and strong, but after she debuted and they were put together for SuperM, he was on a mission
Slipped through her walls through his comedy acts, making her laugh a lot with the others
But he definitely got her when he took the role of leader in SuperM and looked after them all; she grew to lean on him and trust him
After some bonding time, they became siblings with him being the annoying older brother to her, and her becoming the little sister to him that he just wants to tease and coddle at the same time
He is immune to her cold and intimidating appearance. He looks at her and just thinks, "I'm gonna annoy her until she tries to end my life."
Apart from the constant teasing, they really perform well together, and he loves singing with her - her alto voice blends well with his singing, and they love to have high note singing competitions lololol
Tumblr media
He found her scary...
But thanks to Baekhyun, he realised that she wasn't scary and was a nice person
He loooovvess to tease her - especially when it comes to their age; he likes to remind her that he is older than her by a year (I don't know why he does that, he just finds it amusing)
Nari is ready to throw hands when he continues teasing her - he's like an annoying older brother for her, always teasing her and bothering her
Kai loves seeing her reaction whenever he bothers her - but he's ready to run when it looks like Nari wants to commit a crime and is staring directly at him
Outside of teasing, Nari admires his performance energy and always asks him on how she can improve, so he will put away the playfulness and help her sincerely
He wants to help her in performance/idol life and also help her relax, because he can see the amount of pressure that is put on her as the only female member in NCT, and being in so many groups it's concerning
He feels like she doesn't have time to destress from the responsibilities and pressures she has on her, so he wants to help her and protect her as much as he can (and annoy her on the side). He's ready to defend her against the haters as much as he can, and just be the older brother he can be for her since she's mainly used to looking after younger members and not being taken care of.

Baekhyun’s grip on your waist was tight.
It felt secure and confident enough, so worries about him having to hold you up were long gone from your head. Your usual shyness seemed to have dissipated, and in its place came utter shamelessness.
‘Fuck, Baekhyun-’
Your high-pitched moan made him grunt. He wasn’t very talkative of a lover, but he was invested in making you come. The two of you barely made it into the apartment, starting out at the front door and only just stumbling into the hallway. Where he had you against the wall now.
‘Please don’t stop…’ You begged, finding his grown-out hair to tug on.
Baekhyun’s hips jerked forward, nailing you into the wall, and he groaned into your neck. Barely able to hold on to his shoulders, you swayed your own pelvis to meet his thrusts. Your breathing was ragged, and the deep, messy thrusts had you both on the brink of orgasm.
‘Ooh, Baekhyun, I’m- Amph!’
Your loud wail broke into reality and woke you up.
~
Later that day you were telling your best friend all about your miserable existence.
‘I hate my life, Yu…’, you whined into the phone.
‘That’s understandable.’
‘Yuki!’
‘Don’t ‘Yuki’ me, I still can’t believe you didn’t drop your panties for that hot neighbor of yours.’ She huffed in the middle of lecturing you. ‘Your subconscious is doing well, showing you what could’ve been.’
‘We barely ever hung out! I couldn’t exactly jump him.’
‘You’re neighbors! Who cares about the ‘three dates’ rule? He’s been to your get-together, you’ve been at his place… eating ice cream.’ You could hear the eye roll.
‘So? That doesn’t mean we’re dating.’
‘Dating-shmating. Didn’t you just mention that you’re horny as fuck for Baekhyun?’
‘So what? I don’t even know what he thinks of me. What if he has a girlfriend?’
Your friend’s laughter filled your ears.
‘He literally cornered you at the door and told you to come back whenever you craved for your favorite ice cream flavor. If that’s not saying, ‘Let’s fuck, Y/N,’ I don’t know what is. I’m actually willing to give him extra points for this. That’s the type of smooth that you need.’
‘I need?’
‘Yep. You’re pretty gentle, you know? He probably got that when he invited you to his house, and you raided his fridge instead of his bedroom.’
She was always in your face about being too slow to open up. You’d had this conversation before, and her stance on it was unyielding – you needed to have a steady male presence in your life to gain confidence for a healthy relationship in the future. But you didn’t think you were made for such arrangements; you were quite conservative about dating.
‘He wasn’t inviting me for sex. There wasn’t anything suggestive of that!’ You countered, not sounding particularly confident.
‘You mean he didn’t make any physical contact all night? Well, that’s not solid-’
‘He did, but it was-’
‘Wait, what?? He did?!’
‘It was nothing!’ You quickly took it back, slapping yourself on the lips.
‘You know what? You don’t even have to tell me. I already know that he wants you, and you want him. I also know you’ll continue dragging it out instead of having sex with the gorgeous boy next door.’
‘That’s actually another reason why I’m reluctant. What if Baekhyun’s not into me? Or in a relationship already? Or what if it ends the usual way? We aren’t just neighbors; we’re the only people on our floor. How awkward would that be?’
Your bestie sighed, probably remembering your past relationships. She, of all people, knew precisely the terms you broke up on and how stressed you were about crossing paths with any of your exes again.
‘It does have the potential to be awkward,’ Yuki pointed out. ‘But also… can you imagine how fun it’s gonna be? You’re always grumpy about having no time for dates and stuff. But you live like 5 seconds away from each other. The universe has outdone itself, you ungrateful woman!’
She fell silent after your huff, and you called out her name to make sure she was still on the line.
‘Sorry,’ she said, not a tiny bit embarrassed. ‘I just imagined having Hoseokie as my neighbor. My body is jealous of you, Y/N. The amount of sex you could be having!’
‘Ugh. I haven’t gotten laid in eternity, yet you keep talking about sex.’
‘Sex is great, you should try it. I can’t even remember what you were like when you had it.’
‘Just as grumpy as now,’ you grumbled. ‘Don’t even count on that making me any more sociable. Once a homebody, always a homebody!’
‘Oh well, at least I’d be happy knowing your body is socializing plenty with your clothes off.’
‘Why would you think about me with my clothes off…’ You gasped.
‘Yah!’
‘I’m hanging up.’ You announced, pressing the red button.
It was your fault for telling your friend about your love struggles. You knew how she was, and you still asked for her opinion.
She texted you immediately after you had one-sidedly ended the call.
Ki-yaah | Rude
Ki-yaah | At least invite the hottie for dinner. Reciprocate his gesture, if you know what I mean
Ki-yaah | But this time don’t wear sweats!! Wear a dress! Something simple
Ki-yaah | And easy to remove;)
You | You are…
Ki-yaah | Helpful?
You | That’s not what I was gonna say, but let’s go with that…
Ki-yaah | So you will??
You | Maybe…
Ki-yaah | Gosh, why are you so resistant!?
You | Idk ㅠㅠ Stop yelling at me ㅠㅠ
Ki-yaah | If you’re really not feeling this guy it’s fine, don’t listen to me~
You | I’m scared of the opposite, Yu… I think I’m starting to ‘feel him’ way too quickly. He’s been friendly once or twice, what if I’m overreacting?
You | It’d look pretty pathetic if I made moves on him, and he didn’t even have any of that in mind…
Ki-yaah | You’re way too hard on yourself, girl. And you still cannot tell when a guy is genuinely interested in you…
Ki-yaah | Remember that party… I was drunk, but even I noticed the way he was looking at you!
You | Exactly, you were drunk! He was probably trying to memorize what I looked like, nothing more
Ki-yaah | Yeah right. Cause when a guy can’t keep his eyes off of you, it’s just him memorizing your features for a composite sketch in case you break the law
You | Stop rolling your eyes
Ki-yaah | I’m glad you noticed!!
Ki-yaah | I wish you noticed men giving you the eyes more often than you notice my eyerolls!
Ki-yaah | Just do it your way. Invite him for a snack, wear something moderately nice, be a tiny bit suggestive and see where he takes this
Ki-yaah | Also keep your counter clear, what if the sparks start flying in the kitchen? Some men get turned on by women cooking, you know? And since you’re a great cook, you might just get your answers quick and efficient~
You | If I could hang up on this chat…
Ki-yaah | Did you write this down?
You | Bye ><
Even if that could be considered decent advice, you still couldn’t muster up the courage to take initiative like this. So all that was left for you was to wait until some random occasion, pleasant or otherwise, brought you together again.
***
It was late.
It was way too late for you to be out, especially grabbing snacks in the supermarket. But you just couldn’t bring yourself to go to bed. You’d been too anxious from overthinking everything in your life recently, from your professional worth to relationships. Getting lost in reflection, you realized you desired someone’s attention and affection. You wanted someone to be close with, not just physically but also emotionally. Intimately. It wasn’t about simply being bored or lonely – any of your friends was a phone call away in cases like that. What you needed was different, and it was something that wasn’t available to you at this time, or, perhaps, ever. So, you decided that a quick run to the nearest store for something to munch on was a great idea.
Spoiler alert – it was not.
‘Damn, why did I buy so many chocolates?’ You puffed into your mask, frustrated with yourself.
Having a sweet tooth came with consequences, and you were really trying to watch your weight since you’d been stress eating for weeks (months?) due to your work-related and other problems. Now was the time to get your diet back to normal, not to maintain the harmful habits.
‘I shall bring those to work if I don’t want to eat all of them myself,’ you thought to yourself, using your code to walk onto the territory of your apartment complex. You were almost home since, thankfully, the supermarket was only a few minutes’ walk away.
The concierge was away, which you noted since you’d usually greet him whenever you came back. You simply headed towards the elevator this time, still consumed by your thoughts. Before you could get close enough to press the button, someone grabbed your wrist, startling you.
‘Excuse me!’
Turning around, you faced the stranger, who decided to stop you in your tracks so unexpectedly.
‘Yes?’
He stared back at you, and you at him. Did you know this guy? Was he new in your building? It was relatively new, so many people were moving in these days. You did, not too long ago. But he didn’t look familiar. Or trustworthy, for that matter.
‘Can I... help you?’
Moving your shoulder back you tried to break free from his hold, but didn’t succeed. This was strange.
‘You’re pretty,’ he suddenly said matter-of-factly. ‘Can I have your number?’
At this point the encounter had become creepy. You went out wearing non-flashy clothes, zero makeup and a mask. How could he even tell whether you were pretty or not? The fact that he was still physically holding you in place escalated the situation.
‘What?’ Dumbfounded, you blinked at him.
‘You’re pretty. Exotic. Give me your number, we can chat.’
Ah, that. You hadn’t been called exotic in a while, and you realized what type of guy that he was.
‘Please let go of me. Kindly.’ You asked, looking around to see if there were any security cameras pointed in your direction.
‘Give me your number first,’ he argued with a strained smile.
The contact became even more unwelcome.
‘Let go,’ you repeated firmly, jerking your arm even though your wrist began to hurt.
‘Oh, come on. I just want your number; I’m not asking for your apartment passcode! Don’t be difficult.’
You were being difficult? This guy would piss you off if he wasn’t getting scarily persistent.
‘I said, let me-’
‘What’s going on?’ A familiar voice, an octave lower than usual, rumbled from behind you.
Turning back, you realized the elevator doors were open, and your neighbor walked through those in long, determined strides.
‘Is there something you want?’ Baekhyun grabbed onto the man’s wrist. ‘Hands off.’
‘Hey, I’m just asking for some contacts, chill.’
The atmosphere seemed to get even thicker with danger. He wasn’t letting go of you, and Baekhyun seemed like he wouldn’t let it fly.
‘You followed her here in the middle of the night, trespassing, by the way, to ask for her number?’
‘What, I can’t be friendly to a nice girl?’
Baekhyun suddenly moved, tapping the intruder on the throat with his palm and using the brief daze of his opponent to unclasp his fingers from you and twist his arm behind his back. Pushing his face to the wall harshly, Baekhyun held him there for a few moments.
‘Let go of me! You’re gonna break my arm, you psycho!’
Your neighbor didn’t seem fazed by the screams.
‘Listen carefully, you fucking punk. I’ll give you ten seconds to make yourself scarce before I alert the police. And if you ever see her again – run the other way. You’ll experience more than a broken arm if you lay a hand on her, you got me?’
The guy only yelped, swearing and begging for mercy at the same time.
‘Do we have an understanding?’ Baekhyun pressed before letting him go.
‘Ye-yes! You’re crazy!’
As soon as he was left alone, your attacker stumbled towards the door and quickly ran out of your building, still holding onto his arm pathetically. Meanwhile, your vision was entirely blurred out, eyes only focused on the broad back in front of you. You were surprised when Baekhyun turned around and slowly walked towards you, looking into your eyes inquisitively.
‘Y/N-ah, are you okay?’ He asked in a much softer voice. ‘Are you hurt?’
His hand touched your reddened wrist gently, and you shuddered.
‘N-no. I’m okay. Th-thank you.’
Baekhyun’s eyes searched your face for clues and seemed to have found some. He took another careful step towards you and cautiously wrapped his arms around you. The action was much needed, and you were glad he did it. His hold made you feel grounded and secure, and you were clinging to him instinctively, searching for comfort.
‘It’s alright. He probably scared you a lot,’ he murmured, voice soothing. ‘But you’re safe now. I’m here.’
Belatedly, you realized that you were sniffling quietly into his chest the entire time, grabbing a handful of his shirt.
‘I’m sorry,’ you whispered, pulling away. ‘I didn’t mean to cause you-’
‘Y/N,’ he instantly cut you off. ‘You didn’t cause anything. But preferably don’t walk around this late all alone.’
Baekhyun cupped your face and wiped your tears with his thumbs.
‘I live just next door. Tell me if you need company, or if anyone bothers you again.’
He paused to look down and bent forward to pick something from the floor. The plastic bag from the store that you dropped during the struggle.
‘Let’s get you home now,’ he hummed, guiding you to the elevator.
‘But-’
‘Don’t worry. I’ll take care of everything.’
Baekhyun delivered you onto your doorstep in silence.
‘Do you have ice to put on your wrist for bruising?’ He inquired, and you nodded timidly.
Not that you weren’t thankful, you were just still a bit shocked, and embarrassed too.
‘Y/N-ie,’ Baekhyun suddenly patted you on the head like a little girl. ‘Are you sure you’re gonna be okay?’
‘Y-yeah. I just need to… I just need a moment.’
He nodded for you to press your passcode in, and held the door for you before giving the bag with your snacks back.
‘Text me if you need anything,’ he stressed. ‘Okay?’
‘Mhm.’ You simply nodded.
You couldn’t exactly say that he was what you needed right now.
‘See you, Y/N-ah.’
***
The incident greatly impacted your (usually) pretty peaceful life. And it actually pushed you towards interacting with Baekhyun much more often – from the occasional small talk whenever you ran into each other, to the actual… hangouts? You swiftly went from acquaintances to friends.
In the span of a few weeks, you became a frequent guest at his home. One could even say that the negative experience turned out to be the catalyst of your relationship. You’d grown much closer afterwards. So comfortable with each other, that you found yourself in his living room in front of the TV every other day.
‘Yah, why didn’t you pause while I was on the phone? I can’t trust you to give me the short version, you take longer than if we actually rewatch it!’
‘What? I can be pretty laconic if I need to!’ You threw a carrot slice at him.
You had so much popcorn lately that a healthier equivalent was more than necessary.
‘What’s this, a bunny attack?’ Baekhyun threw it in his mouth and crunched on it. ‘Get back to where I left off.’
‘Alright, oppa.’
He drove you crazy with his bossiness sometimes.
‘That’s right. Respect your elders,’ he teased.
‘Why do I put up with this…’ Rewinding the episode, you scratched the fluffy head in your lap. ‘Mongryong-ah, I only endure this for you!’
Baekhyun looked down at his corgi.
‘Wah, living your best life, aren’t you, old man?’
‘You didn’t have to mention his age! You’re still adorable, Ryongie,’ you stroked the dog’s back.
‘He likes you too much,’ Baekhyun noted. ‘This grandpa usually isn’t this mellow with strangers.’
‘I’m not a stranger!’
‘With new people,’ he corrected, laughing at your exasperation.
‘I like him too. It’s mutual,’ you hugged the corgi, stretching his long body along yours, and rubbed his belly.
‘Wow. Literally a pile of mush, disgusting.’ Baekhyun said, looking at his happy dog.
‘You’re just jealous ‘cause he’s never this cute with you.’
‘Or I’m jealous ‘cause I want a belly rub too,’ he retorted, finally pressing play.
‘All you have to do is ask,’ you thought.
Unfortunately for you, Mongryong actually lived with Baekhyun’s parents, so you couldn’t use him as an excuse to come over that often. Even though your neighbor was diligently informing you about his pet’s visits. You really should’ve read between the lines, but even if you realized he did like you… It wouldn’t have changed much. You were just not the type to make the first move, so you just went with the flow. And if there was no opening for you to spend time with Baekhyun, you just… didn’t.
But the universe had its own ways of pushing you.
~
‘Why isn’t it working?’ You grumbled, pressing the numbers on your keypad lock. ‘Please, don’t tell me…’
An odd thought had crossed your mind. You hadn’t changed your batteries since you’d moved in, so what if those had completely drained? Today, of all days! When you went out to buy some cereal and ended up running home from the store under pouring rain?
‘No, dammit!’ You cursed under your breath.
‘Trouble with your lock?’ The voice from behind made you jump.
‘Oh god, when did you get here?’
‘Just now,’ Baekhyun hummed. ‘You look stressed. Are you locked out?’
‘Yeah. The battery died… Very timely. What do I do…’
‘You need a 9V.’
‘A what?’
‘A 9V square battery,’ Baekhyun laughed. ‘Which, I assume, you don’t have.’
You stared at him blankly, looking absolutely clueless.
‘Come here,’ he grabbed your wrist and led you to his door. ‘I’ll go to the store and get you one. But you need to change, or you’re bound to get sick.’
It wasn’t like you would say no – you were shivering already.
‘Here, you can wear this for the time being. And a towel,’ he handed you a small pile as soon as he left his bedroom. ‘Use a hairdryer for your hair.’
‘You really don’t need to-’
‘Go, you’re freezing. I’ll make a quick run to the store and back, and you warm up in the shower.’
‘Thank you,’ you managed to say while he was nudging you into the bathroom.
You locked the door behind yourself just to be sure, although you trusted that Baekhyun wouldn’t try anything. Still, taking a shower at his place was kinda intimate… and exciting. Maybe because it was the first time you’d ever done it in another man’s home?
‘Get ahold of yourself, Y/N-ssi,’ you told your reflection in the mirror.
The color in your cheeks seemed too bright. Taking your clothes off was strangely a big deal, so you hurried up and jumped into the shower quickly. Your body welcomed the warmth, so you spent at least ten blissful minutes under the hot water. Baekhyun’s wash smelled nice, and you stood there for a few minutes, thinking about how familiar the scent was. You’d seen him fresh out of the shower, so you knew this smell even though it was less concentrated on him. And now you had it all over yourself.
‘Stop wasting someone else’s water,’ you scolded yourself for your dreaminess and finished your routine quickly.
The thought of you smelling exactly like Baekhyun made you squirm. Were you a pervert? This shouldn’t have been this thrilling. Continuing to scold yourself, you got dressed.
‘Gosh, this shirt is long,’ you mused, trying to see the fit in the mirror. It reached your mid-thigh and was the best Baekhyun could offer of his own oversized clothes. You daydreamed for another minute about how broad and chic his shoulders must look in clothes like these.
‘I really do need to get a grip.’
Another ten minutes later, you finally stepped out of the bathroom. You found Baekhyun in the kitchen, moving stuff around on the counter. Certainly, with how long you’d been in the shower… he was back already.
‘Oh, Y/N, you’re done already?’ He asked as soon as he spotted you. ‘Sit down, I’m making you some mint tea.’
Mint tea was actually something that you brought into his life. Baekhyun wasn’t into tea – like almost any Korean, he preferred coffee. But once you’d introduced some variation into his beverage selection during one of your visits, he grew to appreciate the new flavors.
Instead of taking a seat, you came closer to see how he was brewing his tea. Baekhyun was very focused, and you couldn’t help but smile.
‘You didn’t have to do this,’ you murmured, sounding softer than you expected.
He looked down at you, eyes wandering around your face for a few seconds before reaching your mouth.
‘It’s no problem. I don’t want you to get sick,’ he said, turning away and licking his lips. ‘Here.’
You accepted the cup from his hands and took a sip.
‘Oh, that’s good! Thanks!’
Baekhyun nodded, watching you have more.
‘Did you get the V.. battery thing?’
‘Oh, about that… They didn’t have any. But don’t worry, I ordered express delivery online, should take a couple hours tops.’
Catching your uncertain expression, he suggested moving to the living room.
‘We can watch something or just chill.’
Although you agreed, you knew there was no way to pay attention to anything on the screen. You were acutely aware of the fact that you were in Baekhyun’s home, wearing his clothes, smelling of his shower gel, and sitting on his sofa. And the person responsible for your unstable control over your feelings was slowly catching up.
‘You sure you’re okay, Y/N-ah?’ He asked, leaning in to touch your forehead. ‘You seem a bit distracted and quiet.’
‘No. I mean, yes. I mean- I’m fine,’ you blurted out too quickly.
He stayed close, examining your face in great detail.
‘Your cheeks are red,’ he said, making you hold your breath. ‘And you’re pretty without makeup. As usual.’
You swallowed, afraid that your voice could betray you if you answered. His lips parted as soon as his eyes fell on your mouth again.
‘You’re always pretty,’ he said, distracted by your lips.
Without realizing it, you cocked your head slightly to the side, inviting him to kiss you. He was slowly getting closer, and your mind blacked out for a second.
When the lights in your head turned back on, you were full-on making out. It started slow initially, then it led to you two viciously attacking each other’s lips. Just the sound of your kissing made you shiver, and the pleasant tickle of butterflies in your belly accompanied this madness. You hadn’t experienced it for so long, it seemed new, and strong, and addictive.
Baekhyun didn’t waste any time, hands wrapping around your unsuspecting form to hold you against him. You gasped for air, but that was a short-lived pause. His tongue slid between your lips mischievously, and you could only grunt. You’d be down for anything he suggested right now. It was hard to tell how much time had passed while you were kissing, but you relished every second of it. His warmth, his skill, his gentle touch… He was way too perfect, and there was no way you could stop at your own volition.
But the doorbell disrupted your craze within a second.
Both of you stared into each other’s eyes, breathing heavily before he finally moved to get off of you. Sitting up, you tugged at the hem of your shirt, unable to recall just when he got on top of you. Not that you minded, anyway.
‘Ah, why did I order express delivery…’ Baekhyun muttered frustratedly, closing his eyes. ‘Give me a minute. No, twenty seconds.’
Nodding, you chuckled at his impatience. You felt exactly the same – eager to pick up where you left off. Although you weren’t the type of girl who’d give in to her desires easily, you’d been tiptoeing around your devilishly handsome neighbor for way too long. What happened just moments prior was solid proof of how weak you were for him. It was the first time ever you dove into a makeout session so fanatically that your memory was spotty afterward.
But the worries suddenly replaced your giddiness. What if he thought… that you were into that sort of thing? What if he now believed that you casually came into men’s houses and jumped them like a hungry lioness? Was it too needy of you?
‘What the hell are you doing here?’
The undertone of Baekhyun’s voice instantly got your attention. He wasn’t pleased to see whoever it was at his door. Could there be any trouble with the delivery?
‘Aw, and I was under the impression you’ve been missing me like crazy, babe.’ The flirty female voice answered.
Oh no.
Oh hell no.
Did he… have a girlfriend?!
The thought was like a cold shower to your body. Of course. An attractive young man lives in a fancy apartment complex and drives a luxurious car… How could he ever be single?
You were so naive.
And now you were about to get caught.
Springing up from the sofa, you darted towards the door and then froze. You couldn’t walk out of the living room without being seen. This was a nightmare, your worst nightmare coming to life.
‘I signed off on your delivery for you. Can’t you be grateful for one second, Baekhyunie?’
Her voice seemed closer. She was definitely inside the apartment. Maybe she’d believe your explanation that he was just helping you out? Solely friendly neighbor stuff? Oh gosh, you were totally done for.
‘Just get out.’
‘Why, are you hiding something?’ She asked, a bit less playful this time.
‘No.’
‘Are you sure?’ You could hear her taking a step.
‘Didn’t you hear me? Get out.’
There were a few seconds of silence that made you quiver with anxiety.
‘Is there someone in there, Baekhyun?’ She repeated.
‘Is it any of your business?’ He gritted. ‘Where do you think you’re- yah!’
The noise from the hallway could only mean one thing – she was walking right this way. Your mind couldn’t develop anything slightly useful at that point, so you simply stood there. In front of the sofa where you’d just almost… yeah.
She stormed into the room, pausing when she saw you. She was taller than you and very, very skinny. If you’d ever met her outside, you’d think she was a model. She wore a black ensemble that you could only guess was some hot-ass designer, and her hair was perfectly styled. She didn’t blink her faux eyelashes once while scanning you head to toe.
‘Are you freaking serious?’
The way she scrunched her nose, almost in disgust, made you shift uncomfortably. You’d definitely tell her off for this, if not for the shame you felt for being caught red-handed as ‘the mistress’.
‘Are you serious? Stop walking around like you own the place.’ Baekhyun fired back from behind her.
‘I go to the States for a few months, and then you’re snatched when I return?’ She huffed in disbelief. ‘Or is she paid to come here? Judging by the attire you were saving up. And I wouldn’t wear anything revealing with legs like that.’
Your mouth opened, but before you could even respond, your neighbor grabbed her forearm.
‘You really are delusional. Get out of my house.’
He dragged her back to the door, and she continued to yell at him.
‘Are you kidding me, Baekhyun? I can’t believe you’d kick me out to stay with some hooker!’
He stopped abruptly, turning to face her.
‘My mother taught me not to swear in front of ladies. But I hope you shut your fucking mouth right now. I’m only warning you once.’
He shoved her forward towards the door and cleared his throat.
‘Get your shit and leave. I’ll have a word with our security about how you got in.’
‘Fuck you, Byun. I’ll walk these heels over your balls when you realize you’ve made a huge mistake!’
‘Please, spare me your sick fantasies.’ He rolled his eyes, swinging his door open. ‘Out.’
The door slammed shut as soon as she left, and Baekhyun sighed loudly. He ran his left hand through his hair, still on edge, and pressed a button to turn the display on to see your floor. When she was gone, he sighed again, this time in relief. And you… felt so confused. And ashamed. And humiliated.
When Baekhyun turned around, it struck you on the spot. You couldn’t face him right now. Suddenly you felt small and exposed, and all you wanted was to be alone. So, you rushed back into the room to grab your phone.
‘Y/N-’ He began, walking after you. ‘Wait.’
You avoided his touch as you busted out of the room.
‘Where are you going?’ He asked as you slipped your feet into your wet shoes. ‘Stop.’
His hand caught your elbow, and you shivered as his skin burned yours.
‘Please, don’t follow me. I need to go.’ You asked, facing the door.
‘But-’
‘Baekhyun.’ You pushed.
He didn’t say anything for a moment. You heard shuffling, and then he put something into your palm.
‘You’ll need this.’
The battery.

- 460 B.C., Greek Empire -
Thousands of years ago, the twelve Olympians were the major deities of Greek society. These Gods and Goddesses were powerful beings, each of them possessing unique abilities and the power to cause miracles and disasters. Humans respected and feared them, praying to them for strength and wisdom.
At the time, the people of Greece believed the center of the world to be in Delphi, a town housing the sanctuary of Apollo, the God of the Sun. The citizens had built a majestic temple in his honor, throning on a mountaintop. It was the most beautiful part of town, a sight to behold and a place many humans wished to see in their lifetime.
However, the town’s impressive architecture wasn’t the only reason for its popularity. The most famous priestess of Greece resided in Delphi, known as the Oracle of Delphi. She was the only human able to communicate with Apollo, delivering prophecies to the people of Greece. Since it was a very honorable position, many women aspired to become the Oracle of Delphi one day, but few were suited for the role, and in the end, only one would be chosen by Apollo himself. This happened whenever the former Oracle had grown too old to fulfill her duties—it was an endless cycle.
One of the women interested in this duty was a young peasant from a neighboring town. Apollo was her favorite Olympian God because he represented everything she held dear. He was the God of the sun, music, knowledge, and healing. She admired him and his dazzling powers and therefore, it was her greatest wish to become the next Oracle. Many scoffed at the poor woman’s aspiration, believing that a mere peasant wasn’t suited for this, but she was determined and did not give up. When the current Oracle eventually retired from her duties, she traveled to Delphi just like countless other women, hoping to become Apollo’s next chosen.
She attended the ceremony inside Apollo’s imposing temple, a place so beautiful that she couldn’t stop admiring the intricate ornaments and tall columns rising up toward the sky. Wearing her most prized possession, a simple white garment with a sash tied around her waist, she prayed to be accepted by Apollo regardless of her low standing in society.
Against all odds, he selected her to become the next Oracle, allowing her to hear his voice. After she pledged her loyalty to him, he granted her the power to See, providing her with his guiding light to perceive what other humans couldn’t. From that moment on, she was able to see the future.
In the following years, her prophecies aided the people of Greece, preventing conflicts and foreseeing disasters. Countless leaders of ancient empires sought her out to hear her premonitions. Her unique ability saved many human lives. She became a well-respected citizen and her hard work and caring nature earned her Apollo’s admiration. Thus, she was the only human he ever allowed to lay eyes on him. He frequently visited her until a tender love blossomed between them. The Oracle was captivated by Apollo’s charming personality, his mischievous smirks, and his enthralling power to make the sun set and rise again every night and every morning. Their fates had become intertwined. Although she used to be a mere peasant, Apollo gifted her soul the ability to be reincarnated as if she was a Goddess herself.
Whenever she and Apollo died and were reborn, they searched for each other. This cycle continued until modern times when the Greek Empire was nothing but a chapter in history books and the existence of the Olympian Gods and Goddesses had faded into the shadows.
- 2023, South Korea -
Many lifetimes later, the Oracle was reborn in South Korea, bearing the name Kim Hayoon. The young woman’s life had been difficult from the very beginning. She had never met her parents, growing up without a family in an orphanage. Starting from a young age, she had begun to remember bits and pieces of her former lives, reaching back to Ancient Greece. It had been a heavy burden to carry since her young self had struggled to make sense of the pictures in her head. As a child, she had often scared her teachers when she spoke of Greek customs and historic details a little girl couldn’t possibly know. As she had grown older, she had learned to hide this side of hers and realized that other humans could not remember their past lives nor did they realize that the Olympian Gods were real.
At the age of 24, Hayoon was well aware of her inherent role as the Oracle, but she had yet to regain the ability to See—her divine powers would be awakened after she was reunited with her love, Apollo. She missed the God of the Sun dearly and often watched the sunset because it reminded her of him. When the sun rose and set, she felt an undeniable connection to him, and she loved observing the play of colors in the sky, the way his powers dyed it a fiery red, a warm orange, and an ethereal blue as the sun reclaimed its spot high up in the sky. Apollo worked tirelessly every day, and he seemed so close yet unreachable. Years had passed without a sign of his reincarnation, and the worry in her kept growing. What if she wouldn’t find him in this lifetime? What if they wouldn’t meet?
Unfortunately, her current life hadn’t provided her with many opportunities to search for him. Since she had grown up in an orphanage, money had always been a problem. Hayoon could barely afford her monthly rent, much less a plane ticket to travel the world and search for Apollo. He could be anywhere, but she was stuck in South Korea, working a job as a waitress at a restaurant. Needless to say, her salary wasn’t sufficient to travel, not even when she worked overtime. Otherwise, she would have taken a plane to Greece and visited Delphi—the place where everything had begun. Maybe she would have found Apollo’s reincarnation there, or at least discovered a hint about his whereabouts. They had often reunited in Greece during previous lives.
Hayoon sighed in defeat and glanced at her wristwatch. It was almost 8 pm and her shift at the restaurant was far from over. She would work overtime tonight as well, thus missing the sunset again. It saddened her, but she had no choice if she wanted to pay her rent this month.
She rolled up the sleeves of her blouse before she picked up several plates, carrying them from the kitchen to the tables in the other room. Loud chattering filled the restaurant along with the delightful smell of food. Hayoon wasn’t particularly fond of her job because her boss was rather strict and often gave her more work than she could handle—they were in dire need of more employees but her boss refused to hire anyone else, so Hayoon was forced to shoulder the extra work.
When her shift finally ended, she was exhausted and left the restaurant, saying goodbye to the kitchen staff before she braved the terrible weather outside. It had begun to rain about an hour ago, so she pulled up the hood of her jacket and buried her cold hands in its pockets. Rain poured down on her without mercy, drenching her pants and making her shiver. Luckily, the bus stop wasn’t far away. It was late and the city was darker than usual, fog wafting through the streets and clinging to buildings.
Hayoon ran through the puddles, shielding her face with her hand but the rain was unforgiving, drenching her in seconds. She had no time to waste; if she missed this bus, the next option to reach her remote apartment building wouldn’t arrive until an hour later… Breathing heavily, she reached the stop at the same time the bus arrived and searched her purse for her public transport ticket. The doors opened and someone got off, opening an umbrella and moving on. Hayoon’s hands were clammy and trembling from the cold when she got ahold of the ticket. She was about to enter the bus, but the slippery card fell from her hands and landed in a puddle. It was washed away by the rain. Gasping in alarm, she chased after it but was too slow—the ticket vanished straight into a drain.
Hayoon didn’t hear the bus leaving—her attention was focused on the spot where her ticket had disappeared. Shock and horror befell her when she realized what this meant. Monthly tickets were expensive; she could barely afford one. Replacing this would be next to impossible. Desperation gripped her. As if her situation hadn’t been difficult enough already… This made everything worse.
For a being with an immortal soul, Hayoon felt rather pathetic. Without her gift to see the future, she was no different from a regular human and bound to all the restrictions that came with being a poor orphan. The frustration that had been building within her over many months and years came crashing down on her. She felt incredibly small and lonely in the jungle of buildings that was Seoul. The rainwater soaked her to the bones, but she couldn’t bring herself to seek shelter—what did it even matter now? The rest of the month would be a scramble to save enough money in order to pay for public transport and food items. She direly needed a day off, but she could forget about that now. Lowering her head, she looked at her wet sneakers, arms hugging her shivering self to retain a little bit of warmth.
It was pointless. She always felt cold before she reunited with him. Nothing could replace his wonderful warmth—he was radiant and dazzling, and without him, her life was like a faded polaroid. How many more years would she have to wait? Sorrow prompted her to choke up. Her eyes burned as tears gathered in them and ran over her cheeks. They mixed with the rain and dripped down her chin. She sniffled, sobbed. Hayoon considered walking home, but she didn’t have any strength left. Her situation seemed utterly hopeless at this point.
“Where are you?” she called out and gazed at the sky, raindrops landing on her cheeks. “I miss you.”
Unbeknownst to Hayoon, the sheer desperation filling her heart did not remain unnoticed. The person she yearned for heard its call. Although her divine gift lacked its full potential without him by her side, her voice mustered up the strength to reach him. It was the first time Apollo could hear it in this lifetime, and it scared him. The mighty God of the Sun felt a deep and unsettling sense of fear at the sorrowful sound of her voice. He had often worried about his love, wondering where she might have ended up in this lifetime and if she was happy or perhaps felt lonely.
Apollo had searched far and wide for her. He had even traveled to Delphi in hopes of finding her in the place where they had first fallen in love and usually reunited, but this time, she had not been there. He had found no trace of her whereabouts and he couldn’t rely on his powers to locate her either. Even an Olympian God was bound to the whims of fate—Apollo’s divine power of premonition included every human being except for her. Since her soul was immortal, she was not like them. She was an exception. Apollo had to be patient and wait until fate reunited them—this was the price he paid for granting her the ability to be reborn.
Golden light enveloped his form as he gazed at the cloudy night sky. Perhaps if he followed her voice, he would finally find her.
Hayoon trudged in the direction of her home, eyes red and puffy. She had a lump in her throat from crying and didn’t pay much attention to her surroundings—had she looked up at least once, she would have seen a peculiar phenomenon in the night sky. A strange golden glow lit up the dark void beyond the clouds, rays of light reaching through them. As soon as it had appeared, the odd shimmer disappeared, and the sky was as dark as it had been before. Oblivious to this, the young woman rubbed her eyes, her thoughts still circling Apollo’s reincarnation. What if she wouldn’t find him this time? Caught up in her desperation, Hayoon didn’t even consider the other option; him finding her.
When a pair of shoes appeared in her field of vision, Hayoon stopped abruptly, but still almost collided with the stranger who had appeared out of thin air. She mumbled an apology and was about to move on, but changed her mind once she realized that someone was holding an umbrella over her head. The rain no longer poured down on her.
Her brown eyes widened, and she looked up. Hayoon felt as if she had been hit by Zeus’ lightning. She knew exactly who the man in front of her was. Even though his appearance differed slightly in every life they shared, the alluring shape of his lips never changed and his eyes were always of the same ethereal shade, golden like the sun itself. Even his high cheekbones and the sharp line of his jaw were all too familiar. Light blond, almost white hair framed his beautiful features. Hayoon’s heart lept, only to continue beating twice as fast. She bit her lip, cheeks glowing a soft pink under his adoring yet worried gaze.
“What are you doing out here so late, and in the pouring rain no less?” His tone held sternness and concern for her well-being since she wasn’t as resilient as him. “Come here, my sunshine.”
The old nickname prompted her to smile and she allowed him to wrap his arms around her shivering form. Apollo’s natural warmth felt wonderful, blocking out the cold night air. They shared his umbrella, shielding themselves from the rain. She relished their reunion. Burying her teary face in his chest, she inhaled his scent, convincing herself that she wasn’t imagining this, that he was really here. His elegant hands stroked her hair, arms holding her protectively.
“I missed you so much,” she whispered. “Y-You have no idea! It was so hard to find you this time.”
“You must have been lonely,” he answered, voice drenched with sorrow. Now that he had met her, he realized her life had been a struggle up to this point—when he had first laid eyes on her moments ago, she had been a picture of sadness. The pain in her eyes had struck him right in his chest like an arrow.
Thankfully, her demeanor had changed completely after recognizing him. She glowed with happiness, beaming up at him as if she was the sun. The tears glistening in her eyes didn’t stem from sadness but sheer joy. When she looked at him like this, she did her nickname justice.
“I was but it’s okay, I won’t be lonely anymore,” she answered and inclined her head. “What’s your name?”
His features softened, and he chuckled lightly. “It’s Baekhyun. And yours?”
“I’m Hayoon.”
“Hayoon—how fitting for the Oracle,” he hummed, prompting her to blush. “Will you allow me to take you to a safer and warmer place?”
“Please.”
“Close your eyes, sunshine,” he whispered and leaned his forehead against hers. She did as he said, but even with closed eyes, she noticed the incredibly bright light enveloping them. It was so vivid it would have surely blinded her, had she kept them open. When it faded, the atmosphere around her had changed. The pitter-patter of the rain was gone and the cold night air had disappeared.
“Now open your eyes.” She blinked and found herself in a spacious apartment with a large window front. Outside, the scenery of a city was illuminated by countless small lights. They looked like fairy lights from above. She stepped closer to the glass and took in the amazing view, her jaw dropping. The apartment must have cost a fortune. Hayoon turned around and inspected the rest of the room, a modern living area with a crème-colored couch and a coffee table made of glass.
“We’re in my home in Bucheon,” Baekhyun explained. His eyes had not left her since they had arrived. She was drenched in rainwater, and although she no longer shivered, she should change her clothes and take a hot shower before she ended up sick... He was worried about her.
In the meantime, Hayoon was too preoccupied with her surroundings to take note of her wet clothes. She padded from the window to the TV stand, admiring the beautiful lyre next to it before the piano in the opposite corner caught her attention—obviously, Apollo still had a passion for music, just like in all of his former lives.
“This is so like you,” she smiled and pressed a piano key, creating a soft sound.
“Do you like it here?” he asked, causing her to nod. “Then, do you want to move in now?”
“Wait, right now?”
“Of course. I want to spend as much time with you as I can.”
“But I need to resign from my job in Seoul before I can move to Bucheon! And I also have to get all of my belongings from my flat, and—”
Baekhyun bridged the distance between them with two quick strides and cupped her rosy cheeks with his hands, ending her rambling. She looked at him with wide eyes, prompting his lips to twitch in amusement.
“Leave it to me and don’t worry so much. What matters is that you’re with me now. I will take care of you,” he smiled and winked. “We have to make sure you don’t catch a cold. You should take a hot shower, and I will lend you some of my clothes.”
He showed her his bathroom, provided everything she needed, and while she was in the shower, he went to the kitchen and prepared tea for her. Baekhyun made her favorite kind; lavender. When Hayoon returned, her hair dried and her body clothed in one of his soft pajamas, he placed the tea on the coffee table and got a warm blanket for her.
“Sit,” he said and nodded at the sofa, inviting her to make herself at home. The spacious, soft couch welcomed her tired self, and Baekhyun covered her with the blanket. She sighed in contentment and closed her eyes for a moment when he sat next to her, slipping under the blanket as well. His arm wrapped around her lower back and pulled her in, coaxing her to lay on his chest. Then he dimmed the light in the room with a snap of his fingers, creating a cozier atmosphere. A golden glow shimmered in the air, brought to life by his divine powers.
This was the moment Hayoon experienced true happiness. All the burdens of her human life were gone in a blink. She didn’t waste a thought about her horrible job or how she would pay her rent this month. None of these things mattered now that she had reunited with him. Hayoon’s hand emerged from beneath the blanket and reached for his, eager to touch him, eager to feel the warmth of the sun. It was the kind of sensation that tingled under your skin and left you craving more.
He watched in amusement as she held his hand and interlaced their fingers, gazing at their intertwined hands as if they were a miracle. Baekhyun enjoyed their proximity just as much as she did. There was nothing more satisfying than finding her and being rewarded with her presence. She really was a sunshine, lighting up his life and bringing him joy. Thus, he guarded her beautiful soul for eternity, so that it would always be reborn just like his.
Unaware of his thoughts, Hayoon studied him, admired his profile and sighed softly. Her gaze wandered to his lips and back up to his golden eyes. She did this so often that he couldn’t hold in a smirk—she had become predictable after so many years spent together. “What’s wrong, sunshine? Do I have something on my face?” he teased.
“How long do I have to wait, Baekhyun?”
“For what?” he smirked, just as mischievous as usual. His personality would never change—she knew that already, and she loved him the way he was even if he sometimes got a little cheeky…
“When will you kiss me?”
“Oh, is my sunshine asking for attention? Does she want a kiss?” His eyes twinkled like the stars, but a hundred times more enthralling.
She pouted and crossed her arms. “Baekhyun, come on, I know you want it too. I can see it in your eyes!”
“Can’t hide anything from the Oracle, hm? Well, since it’s our first kiss in this lifetime, we ought to make it special.” The velvet timbre of his voice darkened, and he placed his finger below her chin to tilt it up. “Don’t you agree, love?”
Gold flashed in his eyes as they longingly drifted to her lips. The air grew warmer as if she was basking in the sunlight. He leaned in until his breath ghosted over her lips. Hayoon’s eyes closed as he kissed her. The gentle touch set off sparks of joy and an indescribable warmth that flooded her. It was as beautiful as she had imagined. His hand wandered from her chin to her cheek, thumb caressing her with slow motions. Hayoon embraced him, deepening the kiss. There was something so peaceful about this moment—she wished to remember it for a long time. After the struggles she had endured, Hayoon had finally reached the happy ending she had yearned for.
When they separated, a beam spread over her face. She met his eyes, and the sweet desire gleaming within them prompted her to blush. With rosy cheeks, she whispered, “I can’t believe how lucky I am to be here with you. You’re amazing, do you know that?”
“Yeah, someone has been reminding me ever so often,” he winked at her and chuckled. “I wouldn’t call it luck though, after all, I had good reasons for choosing you to become the Oracle, sunshine.”
Hayoon’s curiosity was sparked since he had never actually told her why he had picked her for this sacred duty. “Why is it that you chose me? Why not one of the other women? There were so many, what makes me special?”
“You were the only one who truly appreciated the beauty of music and art, and you seemed genuinely interested in everything I represent. Your curiosity was adorable too. I kept an eye on the temple when everyone arrived, and you stood out because you were admiring even the smallest detail of your surroundings. I wanted someone humble to become the next Oracle; not someone who is greedy and only interested in wealth and fame,” he explained while he brushed his fingers through her silky black hair. “My choice was immaculate. You ended up being the most suitable human for this duty. It’s like you were born for it.”
“Maybe I was,” she shrugged and smiled. “Thank you, that sounds very sweet.” She snuggled up to him and closed her eyes.
“Someone’s tired,” he whispered and planted a kiss on her cheek. “You had a long day, sunshine. Rest now.”
“Will you sing for me?” she mumbled without opening her eyes.
“Your favorite lullaby?”
“Mhm.”
Baekhyun smiled. He had composed this song a long time ago, and it had prevailed throughout several lifetimes, accompanying them. It had been meant to comfort her and reassure her that they would always find each other in the end. Hayoon relaxed when his beautiful voice enveloped her, sweet like honey.
“When you’re about to be sad,
close your eyes and think of me.
This melody is for you.
This melody is about you.
My beautiful and eternal heart
will always answer that it’s you
no matter who asks.
The only one in the world,
it’s you.”
The wonderful feeling of peace overcame her. The last she heard before she fell asleep in his arms was him whispering, “I love you.”
As she was embraced by sleep, her dormant gift was reawakened, and she experienced her first vision in this lifetime—a small glimpse into the future filled with vivid colors, warm feelings and a profound sense of belonging.
Author’s note: The lyrics are from the song Happy by Baekhyun. I hope you liked this short story! It was a spontaneous idea, but I had to do some research on Apollo and the Oracle of Delphi before I wrote this. 🥺

chapter 01 | dark skies with black over blue (2.1k words)

Today's Hyunseo's third death anniversary.
For Dasom, it still feels like yesterday when she received a call from a very frantic mother of hers. She can never forget that specific moment when the bomb was suddenly dropped on her.
"Eomma?" Dasom tentatively speaks on the phone, her eyes not able to stop in one place since she's still trying her best to calm down her nerves as she's about to step onto the podium to deliver a presentation in front of the whole batch.
She puts the phone away from her ear, double-checking if she read the caller's name correctly since no one is speaking on the other line. Seeing that it is indeed her mother, Dasom asks again. "Eomma, what's wrong? What happened?"
A choked sob can be heard, making Dasom's heart beat faster than it already is. "Dasom-ah.."
"Eomma," now she's scared. She has no idea what to expect from her mother's mouth. "Breathe." She hears her mother doing what she just said, "Okay. Now, tell me slowly what just happened?"
Dasom immediately regrets answering her mother's phone call right before her name gets called in front.
"It's your sister, Dasom. She's got a malignant brain tumor and is currently admitted since she fainted at work."
Before arriving at their agreed meeting place, Dasom made sure to pass by a nearby flower shop to buy her sister's favorite flowers, daisies. Hyunseo would have turned thirty this year so Dasom makes sure to buy thirty daisies for her. She's already late, to be honest. But that doesn't deter her from still going out of the way to buy the said flowers.
That's why Dasom just chose not to mind the glare she was receiving from her brother-in-law, Baekhyun, when she finally arrives after fifteen minutes of being late.
"You're late," displeasure is evident in Baekhyun's voice when he acknowledged Dasom's presence.
"Sorry," she responds, "I had to buy these," she then shows the bouquet of daisies she brought. Dasom didn't miss the flick of understanding in Baekhyun's eyes upon the sight of the fresh flowers.
It was Dasom's mom who spoke next. "They're beautiful, Som."
"She'll love them." Dasom's dad comes close to grip Dasom's shoulder, his eyes glistening with unshed tears, overwhelmed by her younger daughter's thoughtful gesture.
The heartwarming moment of the family is disrupted by Baekhyun's piercing voice, "It's turning dark already, we should go there before it rains."
Dasom wanted to say something since it was pretty obvious that Baekhyun's rude interruption is on purpose but she refrained from doing so before she does something she'll surely regret afterward. She needs to be understanding since Baekhyun has barely recovered from the sudden loss of his wife.
Since Hyunseo died, Dasom's parents treated Baekhyun like their own son and took the liberty to babysit their only granddaughter, Dahyun. They wanted to help lessen the burden on Baekhyun's shoulders since his workload is piling up given his recent promotion as the Chief Operating Officer and Creative Co-Director of a multinational fashion company.
Of course, Dasom also played her part as a helpful in-law. Whenever she's free or if her academic load was not that heavy, she always spends time with her niece since it also serves as a time of relaxation for her. It then becomes inevitable for Dahyun to grow closer to Dasom as time goes by.
Upon entering Baekhyun's car, she notices the absence of her beloved niece. "Where's Dahyun?"
"I left her at my mom's," Baekhyun promptly replies, his eyes still on the road since he's in charge of driving them to Hyunseo's resting place.
"Why didn't you let her join us today? Unnie would've loved to see her daughter."
Dasom notices the way Baekhyun tightened his grip on the steering wheel. There's nothing wrong with her question anyway, right? But then again, why has Baekhyun not turned sensitive whenever she mentions her sister to him?
"She's way too young for this," Baekhyun explains.
Dasom is unsatisfied with his reason. She believes that a child can never be too young to be brought to their parent's resting place. It is their right to know about this mere fact and she detests how Baekhyun's sheltering Dahyun too much. Sooner or later, she's sure that the poor child will begin to think how unfair it is for her father to filter the truth about the death of her matter. And Dasom never wants that to happen, at all.
"But she deserves to know," Dasom argues, "I doubt you have already brought Dahyun to the columbarium to meet her mother. Right?"
The car stops in the presence of a red traffic light, giving a chance for the tension to grow inside the car, making the two elders nervous for the heated discussion that's about to begin between their only living daughter and their son-in-law.
"Baekhyun, will it be fine if I fetch Dahyun later so she can spend the night at our place? I promise to get her home safely tomorrow afternoon." It was Dasom's mom who spoke, attempting to change the topic so as to prevent more arguments from popping up.
Baekhyun's and Dasom's eyes connected through the rearview mirror, making the former subtly frown at their sudden interaction. Dasom quickly avoids his gaze, placing her elbow on the car's window sill and watching the view outside. She hears Baekhyun's response: "Of course, eomma. I'm sure Dahyun will love that too."
That's probably the only thing Dasom will ever agree with Baekhyun— whenever they get to take care of his charming daughter, they're certain how happy she genuinely gets in the company of her grandparents and her pretty aunt.
Since Hyunseo died, Dasom has actually taken quite a liking on Baekhyun's daughter since she has always been fond of taking care of kids. She adores Dahyun's innocence and easygoing personality, something that was once hers but got lost when she finally stepped into the real world.
A very sad truth.
"We're here," Baekhyun's announcement effectively pulls Dasom out of her mind. Looking beside her, she gives a weak smile to her mom, whose eyes have already turned glossy as soon as the car stopped.
Since Hyunseo's death, her parents have been unable to regularly visit her resting place since they got caught up with matters at work. Even though they wanted to drop by for a moment, their work schedules render them unable to do so since the bank has been experiencing a bit of turmoil for quite some time now. Therefore, Dasom understands the burst of emotions that her mother must be feeling at the moment. Her father, on the other hand, has always been adept at masking his emotions effectively after sitting through countless hours of board meetings that require him to navigate the ruthless ways of the major shareholders.
Their footsteps echoed as they entered the columbarium. There weren't a lot of people inside, probably because of the fact that the work day is still isn't over yet.
Dasom lets her mom cling to her arm as they walk towards Hyunseo's spot, with Baekhyun and her dad leading the way.
She lets her eyes travel around the many epitaphs placed on the third floor, wondering about the causes of their deaths and how the loved ones that they left behind were able to cope up with the grief brought upon by their passing.
Even though it's been three years, Dasom is aware that none of them have completely moved on from Hyunseo's untimely death.
Looking back, her sister's words to her on her wedding day made sense. Hyunseo already knew what was happening to her. Instead of spending her last days in the hospital, she decided to take the risk by enjoying it with the love of her life and experiencing genuine happiness with the family she made with Baekhyun. Until now, Dasom can't help but wonder if Hyunseo will be able to live longer if she didn't push through with the marriage and just decided to battle her sickness. But then again, if that's what she did, she'd probably die with regrets— something that Dasom never wanted for her sister.
"Hyunseo, honey, how are you?" Hearing her dad talk to her sister's smiling photograph prompted a tsunami of emotions to overwhelm Dasom. If it wasn't for her mom clinging to her arm, she'd probably be crying her eyes out by now.
She sneaks a glance in the direction of where Baekhyun is standing beside her dad. As expected, his face was void of any emotions and he looks like a robot awaiting to be controlled for his next moves.
Dasom remembers hating Baekhyun for not doing anything to force her sister to undergo treatments before her condition got worse. She hated him even more when he didn't bother to shed a single tear throughout Hyunseo's wake. And she hated him the most when Baekhyun just left his wife's funeral, leaving a two-year-old Dahyun crying loudly for her late mother, off to somewhere else.
She honestly thought that Baekhyun did not care at all.
Who in their right mind would leave their only child alone in a moment of grieving? Only him. But then again, Dasom hasn't met a lot of widowed men aside from Baekhyun so she realized then that she judged him way too early.
So seeing him look so emotionless right now doesn't make her hate him. Instead, it makes her pity him.
They all have their own ways of grieving— it's just that Baekhyun's way is not the stereotypical way of grieving commonly accepted by society.
After her parents talked with Hyunseo and Dasom placing the bouquet of daisies she bought, she motions for her parents to leave first so that they can give way for Baekhyun to have a short moment with his wife.
When they exited the place, Dasom received quite an outrageous question from her dad, causing her to raise her voice at him much to her mom's displeasure. "What?!"
"Dasom, that's disrespectful to your father. Apologize to him this instant."
Dasom purses her lips, admitting to her mistake. "I'm sorry, appa."
Lowering her head, Dasom hears her dad release a short laugh, "It's fine, darling. I'm sure you were surprised by my question earlier that's why you reacted that way."
Of course, which person would not find it weird if your parent suddenly started asking you about how you view your brother-in-law as a man?
With their five-year age gap, Dasom has always looked up to Baekhyun as an older brother she acquired through her sister's marriage. It's a given that their cat-dog relationship ensued because of how much they want to get Hyunseo's attention to theirs, but more than that relationship? Just attempting to think beyond that line is already making Dasom have goosebumps all over her body.
Although, she must admit that she did find Baekhyun quite attractive when her sister first introduced him to the family. But even though she developed a tiny crush on him, Dasom brushed it away immediately since she doesn't want to stand in the way of her sister's happiness. She can never do that to Hyunseo. She loves her sister too much to harbor romantic feelings for the guy she likes.
"Why are you suddenly asking me such a question, appa?"
For the first time after a long while, Dasom didn't like the way her dad smiles. It's as if he's trying to tell her something that she ought to know but is just holding himself back for some unknown reasons.
That's why she can't refrain from asking, "Appa, what's wrong?" Dasom turns to her mother, "Are you guys not telling me something?"
Her mom places a gentle hand on her arm, squeezing it with a soft smile. "You'll know about it soon, Som. But for now, I want you to promise us something."
A promise? "What promise?"
Dasom watches as her father takes hold of her free hand. "No matter what happens, you won't blame us. You can hate us for whatever reason but you must never blame us, or even disown us as your parents. Understood?"
Suddenly, she feels as if she's back again five years ago inside Hyunseo's waiting room, with an hour left to spare before the wedding ceremony starts.
This conversation feels too familiar for her liking.
It's as if people asking her to promise something is foresight for the universe taking them away from her in a blink of an eye.
She doesn't want to answer.
She's afraid that if she will, then something bad will happen to her parents. She barely recovered from her sister's death even though it's been three years already, how so if the time will come when both her parents will be taken away from her especially when she's not that ready to let go of them yet? This cannot happen.
But she can't disappoint them.
Dasom connects her eyes with her mom's expecting ones, making her chest ache just thinking about her parents' possible reactions if she doesn't agree to whatever it is they're pertaining to.
"Okay."
